Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to press play, where we are going through the
- 0:02Speaker 1: less than stellar history of video game movies. I'm Drew
- 0:05Speaker 1: Shulman with me, as always is my beef cheek broad
- 0:07Speaker 1: Jason Wynn. Now, whether you're watching or playing along, it's
- 0:10Speaker 1: time to press play. I honestly, like I think when
- 0:20Speaker 1: I pitched the stupid idea to you, this was the
- 0:23Speaker 1: like I know, Mario was kind of like the first one,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and it was the obvious, like it's a shitty movie,
- 0:27Speaker 1: we'll get the shit on it. This is the one that, like,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm legitimately excited to get to because I actually and
- 0:33Speaker 1: ironically enjoy this movie.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Interesting, it's is this okay?
- 0:37Speaker 3: So I'm I'm like tandentially aware that the Resident Evil
- 0:41Speaker 3: series is awful.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It doesn't.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I've never seen it prior to those okay, and like,
- 0:49Speaker 3: just because of the context of this project and so
- 0:51Speaker 3: on and so forth, it's not that bad.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It's not. It's not the worst thing ever.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Resident Evil, I think more so, is like one of
- 0:58Speaker 3: the most prolific game video game franchises of all time. Right,
- 1:02Speaker 3: Like Ito who plays video games and hasn't heard the
- 1:05Speaker 3: phrase Resident Evil before, Oh, yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's it's it's funny because I think the only movie
- 1:10Speaker 1: we've only movie we've had up till now is Wing Commander,
- 1:12Speaker 1: where it's like, who's ever played Wing Commander?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Of course Aaron who will play later?
- 1:16Speaker 1: But aside from that, freak everyone, like all the other
- 1:21Speaker 1: games we've covered are like you've heard of it, you've
- 1:24Speaker 1: played it, you could probably recognize it, but like, yeah,
- 1:28Speaker 1: Resident Evil really is something special.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's it's it's hugely prolific. I think it's
- 1:34Speaker 3: to the point where the movie franchise is hugely prolific.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I've only played a.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Part of one video game my entire life, but because
- 1:41Speaker 3: of like watching YouTube and like watch Mojo series and
- 1:44Speaker 3: all these other like editorial review things, I've seen clips
- 1:49Speaker 3: of Resident Evil games. I know Resident Evil. Like playing
- 1:52Speaker 3: part of Resident Evil to Remake, which is the the
- 1:55Speaker 3: game I played, I was like, Oh, that's the thing
- 1:57Speaker 3: that I know Resident Evil to be without ever having
- 2:00Speaker 3: played it before. So this was this was and you
- 2:04Speaker 3: know what was interesting too. Not knowing too much about
- 2:07Speaker 3: the lore, I felt like these movies were really accurate.
- 2:10Speaker 3: They might be like the most accurate movies to the
- 2:13Speaker 3: to the video games. That maybe that's because I'm not
- 2:15Speaker 3: very familiar, but it was. It was interesting for sure.
- 2:19Speaker 1: There's that like video game esque quality we've talked about
- 2:22Speaker 1: before that this movie really does embrace, in like the
- 2:25Speaker 1: way it's shot, the way it's like choreographed, the way
- 2:29Speaker 1: the action sequences take place, Like like there's these moments
- 2:33Speaker 1: you sort of like just picture like that wall of
- 2:35Speaker 1: zombies trying to like break through a fence, and it's
- 2:37Speaker 1: like I've like I've experienced that, whether it being Resident
- 2:40Speaker 1: Evil just in games in general, like that is a
- 2:42Speaker 1: video game ass moment.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, oh, especially in the sequel. There's some
- 2:47Speaker 3: crazy fucking set pieces.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Oh we would get to that one.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I was gonna say, you hit something on the head
- 2:52Speaker 1: early on, which we'll nail now. But it's like the
- 2:55Speaker 1: first movie I really enjoyed, Like I said, this, this
- 2:58Speaker 1: franchise I have.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Prior to this, I had.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Seen the second one, Okay, I feel like I'd seen
- 3:04Speaker 1: up to maybe the fourth, and potentially one or two
- 3:07Speaker 1: after that.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Dang.
- 3:08Speaker 1: At some point it turned into Mad Max. Like they're
- 3:11Speaker 1: in a desert, there's giant cars and like weird clans
- 3:15Speaker 1: of people like with flamethrowers in metal claws. It literally
- 3:18Speaker 1: turns to mad Maxsang like this goes off the rails
- 3:21Speaker 1: like two already goes off the rails pretty heavily as
- 3:24Speaker 1: far as movies go, and only gets more heinous after this.
- 3:27Speaker 3: To my knowledge, Well you say that, and again we've
- 3:31Speaker 3: been gas lip because the other movies are so bad.
- 3:33Speaker 3: But I don't watch a lot of zombie movies. I
- 3:36Speaker 3: feel like the majority of zombie movies I have seen
- 3:39Speaker 3: are bad, like because a lot of zombie movies are
- 3:42Speaker 3: also in the B movie genre as well, I feel
- 3:45Speaker 3: so there's some horrific acting, there's some horrific dialogue deliveries here,
- 3:50Speaker 3: it doesn't seem too far out of the genre that
- 3:53Speaker 3: it's in, So it didn't seem like it was overtly
- 3:57Speaker 3: bad it which just seemed like it was on par
- 4:00Speaker 3: of the genre that it is, which is a zombie movie.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And maybe some horror fans are gonna like rebuttle that
- 4:04Speaker 3: and be like, ah, twenty eight days, weeks and years later,
- 4:08Speaker 3: we're amazing, and I'd be like, oh, okay, I mean one.
- 4:12Speaker 3: So I will preface say I am a fan of
- 4:14Speaker 3: horror movies. I have a really specific fascination with like
- 4:21Speaker 3: horror thriller or sci fi horror, because I feel like
- 4:24Speaker 3: they give you a bit more room to play with.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And I think that despite Resident Evil being not as
- 4:28Speaker 3: fantastical as it could be, still heavily falls into the
- 4:31Speaker 3: sci fi fantasy version of a zombie movie, which I
- 4:34Speaker 3: think really acts to it that the second movie kind
- 4:37Speaker 3: of loses.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Like the first one feels like fantastical and like science
- 4:42Speaker 1: fiction y, the second one just feels like a zombie
- 4:45Speaker 1: movie with Resident Evil stickers on it.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, okay, okay, yeah, yeah, I think we can
- 4:49Speaker 3: delve more into this.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll do recapping here because now i'veyone seen
- 4:53Speaker 1: these movies, but the film itself, let's dive right into it.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Something has gone wrong in these super illegal, secret bio
- 5:00Speaker 1: weapon labs of the Umbrella Corporation, located below the unsuspecting
- 5:04Speaker 1: Raccoon City. R Amnesiak heroin Alice, her equally amsiac fake husband,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and a journalist posing as a cop are all dragged
- 5:12Speaker 1: into this secret lab by a security detail from Umbrella.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Their mission is to uncover why the labs AI killed
- 5:18Speaker 1: everyone see AI was bad even back then, and keep
- 5:21Speaker 1: it all under wraps. Everything goes wrong for a multitude
- 5:24Speaker 1: of dumb reasons we will dive into quite shortly, but
- 5:27Speaker 1: also along the way we get maybe sort of love stories, betrayal,
- 5:32Speaker 1: lots of deaths, not all zombie related, and a badass
- 5:36Speaker 1: female protagonist who both starts and ends the film mostly
- 5:39Speaker 1: naked because.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Of course they had to. Yeah, and in the Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 3: that continues in the sequel as well. Unfortunately, yes, Emil Joviovic,
- 5:46Speaker 3: and it's rated R, so they're gonna exploit the hell
- 5:48Speaker 3: out of that, which is really unfortunate. But the source
- 5:52Speaker 3: material for this game, first release in nineteen ninety six,
- 5:55Speaker 3: Resident Evil If You Don't Know, is one of the
- 5:58Speaker 3: most prolific horror video game series of all time. It
- 6:02Speaker 3: redefines survival horror or I mean, depending on who you are,
- 6:05Speaker 3: defined survival horror in transition from third person to first person.
- 6:10Speaker 3: It spawns live action movies obviously, TV shows, comic books,
- 6:14Speaker 3: animated adaptations, and novels. Collecting ink ribbons and managing your
- 6:19Speaker 3: storage space has never felt more tense, whether you're deciding
- 6:22Speaker 3: to be between carrying ammal or some red and blue
- 6:25Speaker 3: herbs or killing zombies. You know, like that either way, right.
- 6:28Speaker 3: If you've never played Resident Evil. I feel like or
- 6:32Speaker 3: watched any of the movies. You've definitely met like an
- 6:34Speaker 3: edge lord with that umbrella core sticker on their fucking car,
- 6:37Speaker 3: or it's like tattooed on their delt because of course
- 6:40Speaker 3: you have it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Really is like I feel like anyone of the Resident
- 6:43Speaker 1: Evil tattoo. It's either like you're a really hardcore fan
- 6:46Speaker 1: and like you really understand the games and like you
- 6:48Speaker 1: played the original Japanese Biohazards, or your fucking like you know,
- 6:53Speaker 1: like bulky ass Jim Brow who like does NNA on
- 6:57Speaker 1: the side and like runs his own like underground wrestling ring.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Or some shit.
- 7:01Speaker 3: For sure, you're the type of guy who's like, I
- 7:03Speaker 3: hope someone raps me so I can kill And you're like,
- 7:06Speaker 3: oh my god, what is funny?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Am I wrong? I know these guys?
- 7:12Speaker 1: I like that's like I feel like you always see
- 7:16Speaker 1: it as a decal on the back of a jet
- 7:18Speaker 1: black jeep and you're always like, yeah, yeah, yeah, you
- 7:21Speaker 1: you maybe played the games, but you're not a nerd.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You're like a doomsday prepper and you have at least
- 7:26Speaker 1: a six shot in your house in every room. We
- 7:29Speaker 1: know who you are, So I think this is I
- 7:32Speaker 1: think this is what our third heavy exposition dump to
- 7:36Speaker 1: start a video game movie. And like, weirdly it still
- 7:39Speaker 1: feels like the right choice, like I feel like it
- 7:41Speaker 1: does it well. It feels very gamy, but it also,
- 7:44Speaker 1: like I understand because people are probably gonna see the
- 7:46Speaker 1: some or gamers like it's crazy to just tell a
- 7:49Speaker 1: not show but give it's.
- 7:51Speaker 3: The Star Wars crawl really is.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But again, given what they want to focus on, which
- 7:57Speaker 1: is the action and the horror side of it, it
- 7:59Speaker 1: does get through it rather quickly and goes like right
- 8:02Speaker 1: into the action, which is nice.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I'll be honest as you say this out loud now,
- 8:06Speaker 3: and this is like the first time we're talking about
- 8:08Speaker 3: it to each other. They could have cut it, and
- 8:11Speaker 3: I think through contexts you get because what is it.
- 8:13Speaker 3: It's like Umbrella Coo is the biggest Yeah, you glamored
- 8:17Speaker 3: and ever and they developed the T virus. You learned
- 8:21Speaker 3: about that later. Don't worry about it, like.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I think you really energy.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think just that opening like sequence of like
- 8:27Speaker 1: the lab and like the virus, like you see the
- 8:29Speaker 1: virus get fash you see the the air, the air
- 8:32Speaker 1: illusion effect they use and then like the lab go like, well,
- 8:35Speaker 1: time to murder everybody. I think you can put two
- 8:38Speaker 1: and two together. And then when those zombies do show up, you're.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Like, ah, I got it, man, Yeah, because the spoiler
- 8:44Speaker 3: the AI lady girl, she's like, this is what happened.
- 8:47Speaker 3: That's why I did the thing, And I look like
- 8:49Speaker 3: the bad get, but I'm really like a good guy.
- 8:51Speaker 3: So everything that happens in this exposition crawl gets explained later.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So it's fucking useless. Yeah, you know what's funny.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I like, I like gave it a pass because it
- 8:58Speaker 1: was like kind of quick and like did a good job,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but like it really doesn't need it, Like you know,
- 9:03Speaker 1: you think you stood on your own movie.
- 9:05Speaker 2: You didn't need this.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I think because of that, it deserves our first negative
- 9:12Speaker 3: point into the system. So a minus one for this
- 9:15Speaker 3: movie so far. That's our that's our new that's our
- 9:20Speaker 3: new little thing, guys. Oh yeah yeah. And aside from
- 9:27Speaker 3: that as well, which is very like of this era
- 9:29Speaker 3: and we kind of talked about it with tomb Raider
- 9:31Speaker 3: as well, this movie screams like Blade to Underworld, like
- 9:35Speaker 3: that aesthetic of like early two thousand's grunge, like coke
- 9:42Speaker 3: chic whatever that that's called. Uh, and I and I
- 9:46Speaker 3: kind of dig it. I'm not gonna lie. I was like,
- 9:47Speaker 3: I was pretty into it.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Oh no, you're one hunters and right. And again, I
- 9:50Speaker 1: feel like you've said this before. It's kind of one
- 9:52Speaker 1: of those like running things we go back to. And
- 9:54Speaker 1: I think you actually specifically mentioned it during the World
- 9:56Speaker 1: Combat movies, ye, which share a director with the this one.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Oh do that? Oh that's right.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Paul Wes Anderson, Paul Paul W. S. Anders whatever his
- 10:06Speaker 1: name is, always got it wrong. It's not it's called
- 10:07Speaker 1: Wes Anderson, Paul Anderson, It's Paul Wes Anderson whatever.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But yeah, he did the first moral.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Character of Grand Budapest Hotel. Yes, that explains the whimsy
- 10:19Speaker 3: and exactly the French dispatch.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think that's another fun game we need one day.
- 10:27Speaker 1: It's like what directors of like modern classics would like
- 10:30Speaker 1: do a video game movie?
- 10:31Speaker 2: In which will they do?
- 10:33Speaker 1: I feel like Paul Anderson could do like a Wes Anderson, sorry,
- 10:36Speaker 1: could do like a I feel like he do Animal
- 10:38Speaker 1: Crossing as a movie somehow I'm not having.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But he would make so well, that'd be great.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Actually, we're not talking about crossing.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We're talking this.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Let's see here, So there was that, Yeah, there's this. Okay,
- 10:53Speaker 3: so there's this big like scar scene and all these
- 10:56Speaker 3: sciences are like, oh my god, we're all dying and
- 10:58Speaker 3: let's you know, it's like a rated R horror fucking movie.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Someone gets final destinations, which I love, Like it's a
- 11:04Speaker 3: classic final destination bit.
- 11:06Speaker 2: She goes into the elevator.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Everyone's afraid of elevators now because she gets halfway through
- 11:10Speaker 3: the elevator, elevator goes up, gets chopped.
- 11:13Speaker 2: That's real nice.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I like that. That's getting a little plus one for
- 11:17Speaker 3: me right there.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, one hundred percent. It definitely deserves it. Like that,
- 11:21Speaker 1: that whole opening segment is just like it stuck with me.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It's like one of those like movie moments that like
- 11:27Speaker 1: watching it again, it was like therese little bits I
- 11:29Speaker 1: don't remember, but like the general vibe of just like
- 11:32Speaker 1: the panic in fear and like like it really I
- 11:36Speaker 1: almost believe it to be one of those times where
- 11:37Speaker 1: like they didn't tell the act of what was happening,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and like they set up the fake murders or like
- 11:41Speaker 1: the the moments like that to like really proper get
- 11:44Speaker 1: like emotion out of them, Like it's.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Overall so good.
- 11:48Speaker 3: It's probably should I say this, it's probably the best
- 11:52Speaker 3: acting that you're gonna get from the extras because spoiler,
- 11:54Speaker 3: the acting in this the line deliveries are fucking terrible.
- 11:58Speaker 2: They're so bad.
- 11:59Speaker 3: But it's a pretty good intro to what you know
- 12:02Speaker 3: or what we expect is going to be a zombie movie. Yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 3: and then it like did like petersof Real Fast. We
- 12:08Speaker 3: don't get a good moment like that for a long
- 12:10Speaker 3: long time, so kudos to the intro. But then like
- 12:15Speaker 3: this character intro, right, so we get this character intro
- 12:18Speaker 3: into Mila Jovovich. She's amnisiak is is that is that?
- 12:23Speaker 1: The is that the yeah's she has had niesia due
- 12:27Speaker 1: to some sort of defense mechanism in the house. They
- 12:30Speaker 1: explained that may last minutes, days, weeks, or months.
- 12:34Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, I completely missed that.
- 12:40Speaker 3: But it's a good excuse to get some already like
- 12:42Speaker 3: resident evil vibes right off the bat, because what I
- 12:45Speaker 3: do know about the resident evil move of games is
- 12:47Speaker 3: that there's a lot of puzzle solving, there's a lot
- 12:49Speaker 3: of whoa why does this statue have three snake shaped holes?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Do I have to find?
- 12:57Speaker 3: What? Did I pick up a Marvel snake earlier? Oh shit,
- 13:00Speaker 3: I got to pick up three other marble snakes around
- 13:02Speaker 3: this house again, Especially in.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Like Graceivil two, it's like some dude's house.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It's like who built their house to have a like
- 13:09Speaker 1: weird sun dial of clock with four gems hidden throat?
- 13:13Speaker 2: Like what are you doing? Why do you have this?
- 13:17Speaker 1: Like I kind of like, again the video game asked
- 13:19Speaker 1: the idea of like, oh, the house they're in here
- 13:22Speaker 1: is like cover for the secret bass below and like
- 13:25Speaker 1: the way to get in. Like it makes it like
- 13:27Speaker 1: it would have made sense to like have some weird
- 13:29Speaker 1: bullshit in the house, given that it's a secret front
- 13:32Speaker 1: for something.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Okay, I didn't even think about that.
- 13:34Speaker 3: That's a fantastic bit because I was just thinking about
- 13:36Speaker 3: it as like she's amnesiac. This kind of has the
- 13:38Speaker 3: vibe of, r, let's just add some gothic shit and
- 13:41Speaker 3: like this really hoity toity mansion in the middle of nowhere.
- 13:44Speaker 2: But that that's hey, we'll take it.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just gonna span these yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Uh.
- 13:52Speaker 1: But while we're talking about the house and the opening
- 13:55Speaker 1: scene there, I do want to bring up like my
- 13:56Speaker 1: one big grape of the movie, like this will be
- 13:58Speaker 1: my first, my first real big name for this one
- 14:00Speaker 1: is Okay, how and why do you have this super
- 14:04Speaker 1: powerful AI running the Hive and all the tech in
- 14:06Speaker 1: the bloody fucking world but zero method for it to
- 14:09Speaker 1: communicate to the folks in charge outside the Hive about
- 14:11Speaker 1: what is going on? Why it has to kill everyone
- 14:14Speaker 1: and if it has the ability to murder hundreds of
- 14:16Speaker 1: humans that easily, but nothing in place to kill zombies?
- 14:19Speaker 1: Like what a poorly played evil corporation? Like really, I
- 14:23Speaker 1: think the villain. I think the villain here is capitalism.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I was gonna make a comparison.
- 14:30Speaker 3: It sounds a lot like Jurassic Park, and I'm pretty
- 14:32Speaker 3: sure in that movie the enemy also is capitalism.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I think I think we can say capitalism is the
- 14:39Speaker 1: bad guy in a lot of things.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know about that sounds kind of communists.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Fuck, I'm having too much fun. Oh No.
- 14:53Speaker 3: One of the big reveals of this movie, which I
- 14:56Speaker 3: did not realize. I don't know if people knew this,
- 14:59Speaker 3: young Mache Rodriguez makes an appearance, uh in a in
- 15:04Speaker 3: a cast that we're gonna I'm gonna discuss here right now.
- 15:08Speaker 3: This cast is so boring and bland. There's like, in
- 15:12Speaker 3: our little party of like protagonists, there's Mili Jovovich, which
- 15:15Speaker 3: we know because she's the protagonist. Yep, nerd scientist guy,
- 15:19Speaker 3: and then like three to five other just swat people
- 15:23Speaker 3: in black, and Michelle Rodriguez is only the only recognizable
- 15:27Speaker 3: one for for things we're about to discuss. But Michelle
- 15:30Speaker 3: Rodriguez very cool, young, young Michelle Rodriguez love young celebrity
- 15:33Speaker 3: cameos in these video game movies.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And like she's generinely the only one who like stands out,
- 15:38Speaker 1: Like I think there's an Asian woman at some point too,
- 15:41Speaker 1: but she's dead, Like she's the first one fucking dead.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Yeah she is, because I didn't even remember that there
- 15:46Speaker 3: was an Asian woman in this movie.
- 15:47Speaker 2: The Asian American on this fucking podcast what yeah uh?
- 15:51Speaker 2: And then otherwise, like most of the Michelle Rodriguez wasn't squinting, no, no,
- 15:58Speaker 2: because I think she's the first one who gets killed
- 15:59Speaker 2: by the lay our first, our first.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Because again, like that laser scene, Oh okay, okay, that
- 16:07Speaker 1: laser scene is like it's burnt into my mind as
- 16:11Speaker 1: like just ridiculous, epic, over the top like early two
- 16:14Speaker 1: thousands of movie moments.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it plays really really well. Like I think
- 16:19Speaker 3: if you isolate that scene out and like clip it,
- 16:22Speaker 3: it's it's really good because there's a pacing to it
- 16:25Speaker 3: and there's a real like tension to that scene while
- 16:28Speaker 3: also being quite quick, which I find really interesting. There's
- 16:32Speaker 3: a lot of anxiety, there's a lot of tension, there's
- 16:33Speaker 3: a lot of fear, and things go, they happen real quick,
- 16:36Speaker 3: and it's a it's a fantastic little action sequence. So
- 16:39Speaker 3: I do want to highlight that a bit. I guess
- 16:40Speaker 3: that gets a plus one.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Here we go. It really is.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It's just it's like such a like like you said,
- 16:47Speaker 1: there's like a weird amount of like hope almost because
- 16:50Speaker 1: like it feels like, okay, well they all go in,
- 16:53Speaker 1: a few of them are going to die, and one
- 16:54Speaker 1: will get out and it'll have that moment where the
- 16:56Speaker 1: laser stops like right in his face and you're like,
- 16:57Speaker 1: oh my god, but no, first the laser is just
- 17:01Speaker 1: like it's it kills the first woman immediately the next one.
- 17:04Speaker 1: It even knows that thing where like as the guy jumps,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it goes up. It's like, what the fuck? What a laser?
- 17:11Speaker 1: And then finally the last made it, who's like made
- 17:14Speaker 1: it this whole way, and you're like he's the leader
- 17:15Speaker 1: of their team.
- 17:16Speaker 2: You're like, I'll make it.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and then it's just like no, uh, I'm just
- 17:19Speaker 1: gonna try to offensive lasers.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And you're fucked.
- 17:23Speaker 3: No exact yeah, like there's because there's even a moment
- 17:25Speaker 3: where he does dodge it a couple of times.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not the first waves. He's great.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's fantastically placed to be say like instant deaf,
- 17:34Speaker 3: secondary deaf. Okay, there's a there's a bit of moment,
- 17:36Speaker 3: there's a glimpse of hope here and there, and then boom,
- 17:40Speaker 3: I'll be honest, like I think I made this note
- 17:43Speaker 3: h at the forty two minute marker. It's incredibly earnest
- 17:47Speaker 3: and like we we've had earnest movies in particular like
- 17:52Speaker 3: Wing Commander, but this movie like stays earnest in a
- 17:54Speaker 3: in a way that is also like true to its identity.
- 17:58Speaker 3: It's not a good act flick, but it is like
- 18:02Speaker 3: that type of action flick. If this makes any sense
- 18:04Speaker 3: at all, Like it is gratuitous action. There's a bit
- 18:09Speaker 3: of tension, but it's not none of the stakes are high,
- 18:12Speaker 3: but that's not why you're watching it. You're just kind
- 18:15Speaker 3: of watching people get killed one by one. This is
- 18:18Speaker 3: this is what I mean by the horror genre and
- 18:19Speaker 3: like the Beeflick situation right, Like it's not it's not
- 18:23Speaker 3: aliens where like we care about each and every single one.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Of the crew necessarily.
- 18:30Speaker 3: It's not that quality level, but it's not like gratuitous
- 18:35Speaker 3: action flick blockbuster bro stuff. Does this make sense? This
- 18:38Speaker 3: is where I'm at with this movie.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So again that they go back to that laser hall scene,
- 18:42Speaker 1: is it's a moment of like you realize right away,
- 18:44Speaker 1: like okay, there's three of them in the hallway. One
- 18:47Speaker 1: guy keeps seeting to dodge this. He's the only one
- 18:49Speaker 1: who I think at the time like he's like the
- 18:51Speaker 1: lead of the team. So he's like the one we've
- 18:53Speaker 1: kind of been like following along with Mila as far
- 18:55Speaker 1: as like protagonist goes. So there is like the logic
- 18:57Speaker 1: of like, okay, like there's this big group going in,
- 19:00Speaker 1: a bunch of them get like zero lines that have
- 19:03Speaker 1: no personality. You know, they're just there to get killed.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So it's kind of the like how are they gonna
- 19:07Speaker 1: do it? How is it gonna happen? Is it gonna
- 19:09Speaker 1: be a jump scare or something cool? So to go
- 19:12Speaker 1: ahead and kill all three of them and leave us
- 19:14Speaker 1: kind of with like the ragtag plus the nerdy guy,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and then and Michelle Robiguez, who's the only one who
- 19:22Speaker 1: kind of has personality. I think it's it's later in
- 19:25Speaker 1: the movie the nerdy one gets I don't know.
- 19:27Speaker 2: What his name gets.
- 19:32Speaker 1: He gets like left behind or something. He's there's like
- 19:34Speaker 1: a moment where he's like he might end his own life.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Oh Caplin, you're talking about Okay, so Kathlyn is his name,
- 19:41Speaker 3: but he's the guy in Aliens where he's like I
- 19:44Speaker 3: forgot the actor's name who plays him. But he's like
- 19:46Speaker 3: it's over, man, I can't do that energy.
- 19:51Speaker 1: So again, like like he's like the obvious, like, okay,
- 19:56Speaker 1: you're you're not gonna make it out of this. He'll
- 19:57Speaker 1: be the sacrificial one somewhere, and then he kind of
- 19:59Speaker 1: has like surprise redemption moment like yeah, like again, like
- 20:03Speaker 1: they do a good job of making these characters, like
- 20:05Speaker 1: the ones that do stick around like like I was
- 20:07Speaker 1: rooting for Michelle Drigauz. I was hoping that they get
- 20:10Speaker 1: to cure and Safer. I was like really like okay, good.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Actually, now that you say that, I think
- 20:16Speaker 3: there are some surprising moments where pabl w. S Anderson
- 20:19Speaker 3: I think actually is his name that I think about it, Yeah,
- 20:23Speaker 3: ws Wi Paul Wis Anderson. He he has some like
- 20:31Speaker 3: interesting it's very of this era as well, where he
- 20:34Speaker 3: has interesting shot choices for sure, very like two thousand's
- 20:38Speaker 3: edgy blade situations.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Well, i'd say even go to step further. I mean,
- 20:42Speaker 1: like a lot of the shots like one it takes
- 20:45Speaker 1: it does like the like from the POV of a
- 20:47Speaker 1: security camera. But that was like the biggest thing in
- 20:50Speaker 1: Resident Evil two to me. That was, like I remember
- 20:52Speaker 1: so distinctly the biggest scares in Resident Evil as a
- 20:56Speaker 1: game for me. So again, we talked a bit about
- 20:58Speaker 1: your history of the game. Mine was very much in
- 21:00Speaker 1: a let's play version before let's plays were a thing.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I go to a friend's place after school most days.
- 21:05Speaker 1: He would play and I would help solve puzzles into
- 21:07Speaker 1: kind of because I didn't have the dexterity for a game.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I was terrible at it, but he like knew his
- 21:11Speaker 1: way around because he played it enough. But it was
- 21:13Speaker 1: the moments of like when you're in a hallway and
- 21:16Speaker 1: the only way to go is like the end of
- 21:18Speaker 1: the hallway in turn, but you can't see down the
- 21:20Speaker 1: hallway until you move to the next screen and suddenly
- 21:22Speaker 1: it's like, oh, this is zombie right there.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Holy fuck.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, so like getting those weird camera angles. It feels
- 21:27Speaker 1: like very homage to the game. But yeah, by that
- 21:30Speaker 1: same standard works so well in this movie and does
- 21:33Speaker 1: like so much to like set the like creepiness. Oh
- 21:37Speaker 1: genuinely like worth a point done.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Uh there's some Yeah, there's some experimental shots, and it
- 21:43Speaker 3: so balances. This movie is like all over the shot Man.
- 21:47Speaker 3: There are moments that are fantastic and there are moments
- 21:49Speaker 3: that are truly fucking terrible. The shots are very experimental,
- 21:52Speaker 3: they're very interesting, but not all of them land in
- 21:55Speaker 3: terms of like telling that story. There's moments where, like
- 21:58Speaker 3: the action sequences are in saying, there's moments where they're
- 22:01Speaker 3: super generic as fuck. There's moments where the acting is fantastic,
- 22:04Speaker 3: or there's moments where the acting is decent, and then
- 22:07Speaker 3: there's moments where the acting is abysmal. Yeah, sure, it's
- 22:10Speaker 3: all over the shop, and I want to root for
- 22:12Speaker 3: it in certain situations. And then there's just like there's
- 22:16Speaker 3: just like things that take me completely out of it.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So I guess I'll give two examples where there's this.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Actually they happen pretty close to each other. So there's
- 22:27Speaker 3: this moment where Amili Joviovich she is Amnisiak and there's
- 22:31Speaker 3: another person on board who is supposed to be they're
- 22:34Speaker 3: undercover agents, is what they've been told, yes, And she
- 22:37Speaker 3: sees this like hot dude, and she's like, how do
- 22:40Speaker 3: I recognize you? And the hot Dude's like there and
- 22:42Speaker 3: he's like, I don't I cut straight to the chase.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I don't know who the fuck you are. But there's
- 22:47Speaker 3: moments in this movie where he's like, there's definitely zombies
- 22:51Speaker 3: happen around me and I'm super chill, and it's like,
- 22:53Speaker 3: all right, you're bugging homie, like there's something up with you.
- 22:57Speaker 3: And then the big reveal is, oh my god, I'm
- 22:59Speaker 3: in myself and I'm gonna double cross everyone and I
- 23:02Speaker 3: never felt anything for you, and it's like, okay, this
- 23:04Speaker 3: was the most telegraph thing ever, I don't give two
- 23:06Speaker 3: flying fucks he dies. I don't feel anything like the
- 23:11Speaker 3: worst plot twist to the point where you shouldn't have
- 23:13Speaker 3: added it at all. And then there's like this other
- 23:17Speaker 3: moment where there's these dog zombies and they look like
- 23:21Speaker 3: they look like Doberman's I believe, and they looks I'm
- 23:25Speaker 3: pretty sure they use practical maybe even early signs of
- 23:28Speaker 3: like CGI mixed with practical, and they're an amazing effect,
- 23:32Speaker 3: like truly legitimately one of the best movie effects I've
- 23:35Speaker 3: ever seen on film period. They work so well, And
- 23:39Speaker 3: so there's just these highs in these lows with this movie.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It's really really weird, and.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Like the dog scene, just to add another bonus point,
- 23:46Speaker 1: that is another one of those great like I feel
- 23:48Speaker 1: like it's such a clear homash the Games because as
- 23:51Speaker 1: much as it's in a movie that's a little quick
- 23:53Speaker 1: and it only does the same effect. But I think
- 23:55Speaker 1: for anyone who's played the Games, so I'm curious about
- 23:57Speaker 1: like saying it now the residual two Bible come back,
- 24:00Speaker 1: but like seeing those dog cages with like the cage
- 24:04Speaker 1: half like ripped open and nothing around, like I remember
- 24:07Speaker 1: seeing those for the first time we were like, oh,
- 24:09Speaker 1: there was clearly dogs in these cages and they managed
- 24:12Speaker 1: to get out of the cages by breaking them open.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Oh shit, So like we were on edge waiting for them.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Like it set the scene of like, oh, there's a
- 24:21Speaker 1: horrible fucking thing out here. Now where is it? I
- 24:24Speaker 1: don't know, but it's out there. So and again it's
- 24:27Speaker 1: almost immediate like she sees this, has the realization, turns around.
- 24:31Speaker 2: And sees them. Yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But I think just it's such a it's such a
- 24:34Speaker 1: good like set building and world building in such a limited.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Space and time. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 24:40Speaker 3: But then on the other hand, like the whole the
- 24:42Speaker 3: whole thing that the movie is coming up to, right,
- 24:46Speaker 3: why did this happen?
- 24:48Speaker 2: What is this? It's a zombie outbreak? Why did everyone die?
- 24:51Speaker 3: It gets revealed that it's an Ai and the eyes
- 24:53Speaker 3: is this a little British girl, which honestly does feel
- 24:55Speaker 3: pretty resident evil. It feels very Japanese to be like,
- 24:59Speaker 3: the worst evil thing ever is a small British child
- 25:03Speaker 3: with red hair.
- 25:04Speaker 2: A small a small British redhead. Yeah.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I feel like that's like not a trope necessary, but
- 25:10Speaker 3: it just feels like very Japanese anime storytelling. Of them. No,
- 25:14Speaker 3: I get that, Yeah, okay, cool, and then she's just
- 25:18Speaker 3: like I did it because it was necessary, but has
- 25:22Speaker 3: no umbrellas real evil, but.
- 25:25Speaker 1: No way to tell umbrella what happened or to kill
- 25:27Speaker 1: the zombies afterwards.
- 25:28Speaker 3: No, exactly, like all the logic gets broken down in
- 25:32Speaker 3: like ten minutes. Like Rachelle Rodriguez is obviously bit. We
- 25:36Speaker 3: see her for about forty minutes of the movie, like struggling,
- 25:39Speaker 3: she's sweat Oh, she's like coffin, she's limping. They're fighting zombies.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I think someone in the movie says, you know what
- 25:45Speaker 3: the fuck these are, dude, these are zombies. And she's
- 25:48Speaker 3: limping along and no one's shooting her. No, Like immediately
- 25:51Speaker 3: anyone looks like they're being a zombie, you shoot their ass.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And then they're like, no, we can get out of this.
- 25:57Speaker 3: And I literally was writing a note and I was like,
- 26:00Speaker 3: why has no one shot her? We don't know what
- 26:01Speaker 3: anti anti virus exists, there's no vaccine. I haven't heard
- 26:05Speaker 3: anything about it. And as I typed it out, then
- 26:08Speaker 3: this little AI British lady's like, oh, by the way,
- 26:11Speaker 3: there's a cue, and it's like, you guys didn't fucking
- 26:14Speaker 3: know that. Why have we kept Michelle Rodriguez alive to
- 26:17Speaker 3: this point?
- 26:17Speaker 1: You know, yeah, like triply so because first, like you're right,
- 26:21Speaker 1: like it does exist, Okay, we know it was a cure. Well,
- 26:24Speaker 1: like no one knew it, so they just dried her
- 26:25Speaker 1: infected ass along thinking like maybe, uh, second, it doesn't
- 26:30Speaker 1: even fucking work. So at the end of all this
- 26:32Speaker 1: this like surprise like, oh there is a cure and
- 26:34Speaker 1: we're gonna use it. No it it literally is a
- 26:37Speaker 1: waste of plot. Nothing happens, and like lastly, jumping ahead
- 26:41Speaker 1: and we bit to the next film, it turns out
- 26:43Speaker 1: that it does fucking work, just not always, I guess,
- 26:46Speaker 1: because it's curing like the daughter who's the AI and
- 26:49Speaker 1: like right, so they know it'll walk or something like
- 26:52Speaker 1: it's fucking like absolute bullshit there.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's again, it's part of this thing
- 26:59Speaker 3: where it's like it's bad. For sure, it's bad, but
- 27:02Speaker 3: it keeps to this identity like it doubles down on
- 27:04Speaker 3: these ideas of like yeah, yeah, these plot points don't
- 27:07Speaker 3: make sense, but British Girl AI zombies liquors like video
- 27:14Speaker 3: game accurate liquors are in this movie, which is also surprised.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I think a lot of the plot twists and like
- 27:19Speaker 3: the story beats feel very resident evil esque, which is
- 27:23Speaker 3: to say, they feel very like Japanese storytelling esque. It's
- 27:26Speaker 3: highly telegraphed. I don't believe the twist quote unquote is
- 27:29Speaker 3: the point of the thing. It's more so just to
- 27:32Speaker 3: like keep the story flowing and keep things moving and
- 27:35Speaker 3: like have something happen. So it it feels very earnest
- 27:40Speaker 3: in a way that I wish Gwen Commander was. It
- 27:43Speaker 3: gets points for that. It doesn't make it a good movie,
- 27:46Speaker 3: but it makes it a good resonant evil movie. I think,
- 27:48Speaker 3: not having watched this at the time it came out,
- 27:51Speaker 3: I get like the reverence for it. Right, there's a
- 27:54Speaker 3: there's a pop culture legacy of edge lords with umbrella
- 27:59Speaker 3: cord stickers. Get I get it, you know. I think, yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 3: like to finish off this movie.
- 28:05Speaker 2: It's fun. It's legitimately fun. It feels good.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I genuinely again, I give them a big kudos for
- 28:12Speaker 1: again Michelle reget surprised at the end.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Like we said, the cur does work.
- 28:15Speaker 1: She does go full zombie and then is immediately killed
- 28:18Speaker 1: in this like ridiculous epic sequence where he shoots the
- 28:22Speaker 1: her and she falls backwards and hits the button and
- 28:25Speaker 1: opens the trap and the liquor. It's like dragon like
- 28:29Speaker 1: again the c G I and the liquor is like bad,
- 28:32Speaker 1: like it did not age well, but like.
- 28:34Speaker 3: That is good for the time, right. Oh yeah, it's
- 28:38Speaker 3: it's so over the top, and that's something that it
- 28:41Speaker 3: kind of continues, which I like, like that is not
- 28:43Speaker 3: the last time we see that kind of stuff. It's
- 28:47Speaker 3: it's that stuff where it's like that is so stupid
- 28:51Speaker 3: and that is so edge lord of you that it
- 28:53Speaker 3: does cycle back to being like you know what, good
- 28:56Speaker 3: on you, that's dumb.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It's I feel like we'll get it in the second movie.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I feel like there's moments this second movie where they
- 29:02Speaker 1: want to be that badass and it just comes off
- 29:04Speaker 1: as like lazy or like ridiculous. Still, like this feels good.
- 29:10Speaker 1: This is like there's this big scary thing. We know
- 29:13Speaker 1: it's that far. Oh I defend that scene.
- 29:16Speaker 2: I love it.
- 29:17Speaker 3: You can't you can't, Yeah, absolutely go that far. But
- 29:20Speaker 3: I will agree with you that, Like it's very much
- 29:22Speaker 3: in the spirit of this whole situation. Yeah, it feels
- 29:26Speaker 3: almost self referential, right because there again there is still
- 29:28Speaker 3: a bit of this earnest and non irony to it. Yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 3: but this was not bad. Yeah, still has so much hesitation.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Again it I feel it held up to what I
- 29:41Speaker 1: remember from my childhood. So again, when this movie came out,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I was young, I remember renting the DVD and putting
- 29:47Speaker 1: it in my portable DVD player for the family road
- 29:49Speaker 1: trip to like cannabung Port, Maine. And I've watched it
- 29:52Speaker 1: multiple times. It was one of those movies I watched
- 29:55Speaker 1: every few months.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I was gonna say, this movie is probably on par
- 29:59Speaker 3: with like a Blake. Yeah, but I have a nostalgia
- 30:02Speaker 3: for Blade too. Whereas I'm watching this for the first
- 30:04Speaker 3: time at twenty eight in the year twenty twenty five,
- 30:07Speaker 3: you know, Like so I get where there's parts of
- 30:10Speaker 3: it where it's schlucky enough that if you watch it
- 30:12Speaker 3: as a kid, there's absolutely nostalgia gets a hold of you.
- 30:16Speaker 3: It's not the worst movie we've seen by far. Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 3: it's potentially the most accurate to the video game.
- 30:24Speaker 2: If I'm being honest, I.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Don't love it. I don't love but I haven't loved
- 30:27Speaker 3: any of these movies.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yeah, this one, Like I said, I think there's definitely
- 30:31Speaker 1: the nostalgia glasses only for this one that holds a
- 30:33Speaker 1: special place in my heart as far as like just
- 30:35Speaker 1: for sure sci fi horror in general goes. And like
- 30:38Speaker 1: I said, it was really my gateway into that genre
- 30:40Speaker 1: that I so thoroughly enjoy. Oh yeah that like, yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I feel like, come the end of this our rankings,
- 30:47Speaker 1: this seems to be probably a lot higher for me
- 30:49Speaker 1: than for you, but like it feels like a good
- 30:51Speaker 1: piece of nostalgia. And then if I try to separate
- 30:53Speaker 1: a little bit, I still think, like you said, it
- 30:54Speaker 1: was a good movie for atal was.
- 30:56Speaker 2: That being said?
- 30:57Speaker 3: Because there's so many there's so many are movies we're
- 31:00Speaker 3: gonna do at least two, yeah, backle the others maybe
- 31:04Speaker 3: in a patreot. We'll figure out one day one well,
- 31:06Speaker 3: we'll see who we feel. So this is Resident Evil Apocalypse,
- 31:14Speaker 3: which I had to for some reason thoroughly researched which
- 31:17Speaker 3: one was next.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's they're like not numbered. It's a weird like
- 31:21Speaker 1: I had the years and ship.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and the posters just make it. They're they're oddly timeless.
- 31:27Speaker 3: They're like the cover art for all these movies.
- 31:30Speaker 1: They're they're mostly just Nila, like standing in a cool pose,
- 31:34Speaker 1: very skin clad with a gun and like a colored background.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no like character arc in those, and she's
- 31:40Speaker 3: like barely ages, so it's very hard to figure out
- 31:42Speaker 3: which ones which. But interestingly enough, this one does not
- 31:45Speaker 3: start off with Alice, right, This starts with Jill Valentine.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Who Jill Valentine from I don't think I played a
- 31:51Speaker 3: game with her in it.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Very iconic character design.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Again, look, if you're familiar with video games and video
- 31:57Speaker 3: game community, so Pudding in this pretty Mela had an
- 32:03Speaker 3: iconic look in the first movie. She has this like
- 32:05Speaker 3: red dress with boots and then the trench coat kind
- 32:07Speaker 3: of really the leather trench coat really puts it together.
- 32:11Speaker 3: This is like a what did they call him? Like
- 32:14Speaker 3: it's it's not just a crop top, it's like a
- 32:17Speaker 3: it's like a strapless crop top.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like a like a tube top and like
- 32:22Speaker 1: that's like a mini skirt and like like the the
- 32:26Speaker 1: gun holster strapped over it.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Like yeah, which is a look.
- 32:29Speaker 3: But she's supposed to be like this police officer in
- 32:32Speaker 3: a police precinct. Her intro to this fucking shit is
- 32:36Speaker 3: there's a bunch of zombies all over Raccoon City, which
- 32:39Speaker 3: was the where this was set. We completely lost over that. Yeah.
- 32:44Speaker 3: So there's like chaos ensuing. There's a police printcinct and
- 32:47Speaker 3: they're like doing their best to like quell this outbreak
- 32:51Speaker 3: and they're failing. And then Jill Valentine, dressed the way
- 32:54Speaker 3: she is, comes in. People are like officer Valentine, so
- 32:58Speaker 3: she's like a well known member in this society. Just open, open, shooting, man.
- 33:04Speaker 3: There's police officers, there's civilians present. She's just taking fucking
- 33:07Speaker 3: blank as shots. Just boom boom boom boom. What We're
- 33:10Speaker 3: just gonna allow this to happen.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, And like the what the like again, like
- 33:14Speaker 1: the vibe of that scene with like the fact they're
- 33:16Speaker 1: trying to arrest one of the zombies or like they're
- 33:18Speaker 1: trying to like get him off kind of thing, and
- 33:20Speaker 1: like none of these other officers are shooting. The vibe
- 33:23Speaker 1: is like, oh, they're like sick and messed up, not
- 33:27Speaker 1: infected with a zombie virus that's killing them. We have
- 33:29Speaker 1: to kill them to survive exactly. And Jill is just like, no, no,
- 33:32Speaker 1: they're infected. You have to kill them.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Boom boom boom, how does she open fire? But like,
- 33:38Speaker 2: how does she know this? Does she know this?
- 33:40Speaker 1: She's a fucking murderer, like she was off the I
- 33:42Speaker 1: think we like the opening of when she's like putting
- 33:44Speaker 1: the boots on and being all like mysterious, is like, yeah,
- 33:47Speaker 1: she's like suspended, and it's like, oh, like we're calling
- 33:49Speaker 1: all officers, even if you suspended.
- 33:51Speaker 3: That's why she's disgraced. Officer Jill Valance in her civilian
- 33:57Speaker 3: close just open fire to police.
- 34:00Speaker 2: That's what the fuck is going on this movie.
- 34:03Speaker 3: It rapid paces bad scenes because the next scene is
- 34:06Speaker 3: like a civilian who like commits suicide because they don't
- 34:10Speaker 3: want to be a zombie. Yeah, and the framing gun
- 34:15Speaker 3: is so funny. I haven't laughed as hard since Dobby
- 34:17Speaker 3: from Harry Potter died because it's like this big dramatic
- 34:22Speaker 3: moment of like, oh my god, death is better than
- 34:25Speaker 3: this reality. She falls over a building we watch, we
- 34:29Speaker 3: don't watch her fall the way. There's no noise, there's
- 34:32Speaker 3: not like a dunk, there's no splat, it's silent. And
- 34:36Speaker 3: then like the next framing to see her dead body.
- 34:39Speaker 3: She's off in the corner. She's not center shot. She's
- 34:42Speaker 3: like she's in the corner of this screen. They can't
- 34:45Speaker 3: even fucking do it. And then there's a priest and
- 34:49Speaker 3: he's like protecting his sister and she's obviously infected and
- 34:52Speaker 3: he's like I'm taking care of her, will you help
- 34:54Speaker 3: me please?
- 34:55Speaker 2: And then he gets bit two seconds later. It's like,
- 34:58Speaker 2: what the fuck, you idiot.
- 35:00Speaker 1: There's there's like a part of me that feels like
- 35:04Speaker 1: these scenes and the ones that real really out of
- 35:06Speaker 1: place were maybe like something from the games that like
- 35:10Speaker 1: we didn't play or like absorb no. But like even if,
- 35:15Speaker 1: even if, even if someone can write in like, uh,
- 35:17Speaker 1: you know, we've we've been totally missed things before and again,
- 35:21Speaker 1: we are not scholars in these games. And I think
- 35:24Speaker 1: part of the thing is these movies are made to
- 35:26Speaker 1: be movies first and video gamaditation's second. Almost like the
- 35:31Speaker 1: goal is not to get the people played the game
- 35:33Speaker 1: come on to the movie. The goal is to make
- 35:34Speaker 1: a movie based off again, to get more people to
- 35:36Speaker 1: come in. If the case is these are like moments
- 35:39Speaker 1: from the game that are super impactful, then like make
- 35:42Speaker 1: them impactful, not like weird jarring like asides that are
- 35:47Speaker 1: just like okay, that happened next.
- 35:51Speaker 3: And you say that, which is giving a lot of
- 35:52Speaker 3: credence and is a big assumption, right there. Uh, this
- 35:55Speaker 3: is a sequel where Paul ws Anderson does not return.
- 35:59Speaker 2: I think he does.
- 36:00Speaker 3: No, I don't think so. I thought I saw trivia.
- 36:03Speaker 3: I'm doing trivia now, Drew.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Matt.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Keep this in for when Drew has egg on his face.
- 36:08Speaker 1: My facegly? No, how No, he wrote this one.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Oh he wrote it. He didn't direct it. Yeah, there
- 36:17Speaker 2: you go. Okay, we're wearrible. We'll split the we'll slip
- 36:20Speaker 2: up on that one.
- 36:22Speaker 3: That's a sports metaphor, right, half half an egg on
- 36:25Speaker 3: each of our face. Keep all of that, Matt. Anyways,
- 36:29Speaker 3: the acting in this movie is horrific. It is truly awful.
- 36:34Speaker 3: It gets into a territory that is laughable, like is
- 36:38Speaker 3: it good, Like is it so bad that it's bad?
- 36:41Speaker 3: Or is it so bad that it's like haha, that's
- 36:43Speaker 3: pretty funny. Actually, that's pretty entertaining.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I think there's a really good like split here because
- 36:47Speaker 1: we kind of have these three like random officers who
- 36:51Speaker 1: like weirdly be like they seem like with nobody characters,
- 36:54Speaker 1: and then one like makes it to the end of
- 36:56Speaker 1: the movie. For reasons and is also the cure works
- 37:00Speaker 1: on him because reasons. Uh specifically, uh, it's the Carlos.
- 37:07Speaker 1: He's actually he does the whole like elevator jumping out
- 37:09Speaker 1: of the helicopter to say that woman in the first place.
- 37:11Speaker 1: The one agent who survives, by the way, played by
- 37:15Speaker 1: Odd Fahir, who I met last year at comic Con.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Super nice guy, very.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Hell yeah he was at Denver Comic Con. I didn't
- 37:21Speaker 3: get to meet him, but shouts out to some one
- 37:23Speaker 3: of my favorite Destiny characters. Oh I didn't know that.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Oh wait, he's o Cyrus Cyrus. Yeah, I just realized that.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, I freaked out when I realized that
- 37:32Speaker 3: and got to meet him. I could go on for hours.
- 37:35Speaker 2: But then he was amazing. You know what.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I liked him so much. Let's give him a point
- 37:41Speaker 1: nice and then we'll immediately you know what. Also, I'm
- 37:43Speaker 1: not gonna say, lose a point, but we won't add
- 37:44Speaker 1: a point. Is his partner, I think, is the other
- 37:47Speaker 1: one who makes it a little bit further, who like
- 37:51Speaker 1: I think he gets killed by the dogs in the
- 37:52Speaker 1: but he gets killed by the dogs in the school,
- 37:55Speaker 1: and he's just like spewing these like ridiculous hammi ass lines.
- 37:58Speaker 2: He is chewing this sea so fucking.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Hard, but he is still yeah, yeah, he gives it all.
- 38:06Speaker 1: It genuinely feels like he's like, Oh, I know this
- 38:09Speaker 1: movie's not gonna do well. I know I'm gonna be
- 38:11Speaker 1: laughed at. Let me at least play like play up
- 38:14Speaker 1: the fact that I know how.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Bad it is.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Almost Oh, no, for sure, you're absolutely right, because I
- 38:18Speaker 3: think so much fun those two actors really give it.
- 38:21Speaker 3: They're all in a movie that's bad because I remember
- 38:23Speaker 3: there was a scene earlier that featured like the zombie attacks.
- 38:26Speaker 3: It's one Milo Yofovic actually like makes her entrance in
- 38:28Speaker 3: this movie, and there's a bunch of zombies and it
- 38:31Speaker 3: plays like a horror movie. And I was really excited
- 38:33Speaker 3: at that point because I thought this would have a
- 38:35Speaker 3: different tone. It doesn't set or it's it's just teases
- 38:39Speaker 3: for something that could have been good. But they're getting
- 38:42Speaker 3: jumped and one of the police officer like actors goes,
- 38:46Speaker 3: oh when he gets jumped by a fucking liquor, which
- 38:50Speaker 3: is like can it's like this brain mutant monster and
- 38:54Speaker 3: he gets like jumped by it and he gets knocked
- 38:56Speaker 3: over and he goes oh, like honibly like that, which
- 38:59Speaker 3: is so fucking bad, dude.
- 39:01Speaker 1: And like no one seems they seem freaked out by
- 39:03Speaker 1: like a thing. But like, right up until now, it's
- 39:06Speaker 1: been like, oh, like they're humans but they're infected. But
- 39:09Speaker 1: this is like no, this is a weird fucking sci
- 39:10Speaker 1: fi creature. And you're just like, oh, there's a few
- 39:12Speaker 1: of them. Do people just walk their liquors on the
- 39:16Speaker 1: street and Raccoon City on a regular basis, You're like, oh, yeah, no,
- 39:20Speaker 1: that's mister Rogers is a liquor. Yeah, no, he's he
- 39:23Speaker 1: would never bite me.
- 39:25Speaker 2: What is that?
- 39:25Speaker 4: Is that? A?
- 39:26Speaker 2: Is that a golden dude?
- 39:27Speaker 1: What is that? It's a it's a doodle liquor mix.
- 39:31Speaker 1: That's a fed up dog you got there, it's a
- 39:34Speaker 1: lick that's like, wah, fuck you.
- 39:37Speaker 2: That's hilarious. That's really good. Proud of that, Yeah, I
- 39:42Speaker 2: know you should be.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Uh, there's let's let's talk about that scene because it
- 39:48Speaker 3: is a church scene. It is where mili Joviovic makes
- 39:50Speaker 3: sure yes, entrance. I think it's also a good talking
- 39:52Speaker 3: point of like you made a note here that there
- 39:54Speaker 3: are I think, at least I think there's three instances
- 39:57Speaker 3: of slow mo action sequences about this in the previous
- 40:01Speaker 3: movie talk it's really really interesting. So the very first
- 40:05Speaker 3: sequence is mili Yofovich. She comes in on a motorcycle.
- 40:08Speaker 3: I believe she comes into the motorcycle. She jumps off
- 40:11Speaker 3: the motorcycle I think like spins it or kicks it
- 40:14Speaker 3: so that it hits a liquor and then like tosses
- 40:17Speaker 3: it up. And then she shoots two bullets in slow
- 40:20Speaker 3: motion so that they perfectly hit the motorcycle and thus
- 40:23Speaker 3: destroy and blow up the liquor. So this is like,
- 40:26Speaker 3: this is that train of thought that we had before
- 40:29Speaker 3: where you can kill two things at once in slow
- 40:31Speaker 3: motion and be fucking badass. And it happens like two
- 40:35Speaker 3: more times in the movie. I believe they like they
- 40:38Speaker 3: like milked it for this one. Yeah, man, there's just
- 40:41Speaker 3: like environment killing Again. I don't think that's a resident
- 40:44Speaker 3: evil game thing at all, maybe like cutscene stuff. Now,
- 40:50Speaker 3: what I will say, because you had the note about that,
- 40:52Speaker 3: is it is excessive. It is gratuitous in this movie.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Maybe it's because I've been like, uh like code it
- 41:01Speaker 3: this way, but it's certainly more interesting than like Zack
- 41:05Speaker 3: Snyder's version of slow mo in modern movies. So it's gratuitous.
- 41:09Speaker 3: It sucks, but it's kind of interesting. It's like it's
- 41:13Speaker 3: that edgy thing that I was talking about where I'm like,
- 41:16Speaker 3: you tried so hard, babe, You're trying so hard.
- 41:21Speaker 1: But I think the other side of that coin, then,
- 41:22Speaker 1: is there are a few moments that like there're these
- 41:25Speaker 1: weird like transition shots where it's like you think of
- 41:28Speaker 1: like a TV show where it's like you're changing scene.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So here's just like a skyline of the city real
- 41:32Speaker 1: quick before we go to the next area. But then no,
- 41:35Speaker 1: then you've suddenly got moments where it's like, oh, here's
- 41:38Speaker 1: just like a bunch of zombies outside of a school
- 41:40Speaker 1: for no reason that it's completely attached from the scene
- 41:42Speaker 1: we're in and will randomly go to like low quality
- 41:45Speaker 1: slow mo for a few seconds while they're like shambling,
- 41:48Speaker 1: and then we'll come back to our team in the
- 41:50Speaker 1: same place.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Nothing's changed.
- 41:51Speaker 1: It's just like you had b roll of zombies and
- 41:54Speaker 1: slowed it down and threw it in a few times,
- 41:55Speaker 1: like did I miss something here?
- 41:59Speaker 3: They That's like because that would be the director side
- 42:02Speaker 3: of things, right, like, yeah, the visuals, the pacing, I
- 42:06Speaker 3: think this movie. One One of the kudos I will
- 42:08Speaker 3: give it is that I think the team or the
- 42:10Speaker 3: cast of characters that we're supposed to be following is
- 42:11Speaker 3: more distinct and more interesting.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 3: I also really love these movies for one thing in particular,
- 42:18Speaker 3: they are not afraid to kill off their cast of characters,
- 42:22Speaker 3: and very unceremoniously as well. I'm pretty sure that's a
- 42:25Speaker 3: horror movie trope, just having people die one by one,
- 42:29Speaker 3: but it feels so unceremonious when someone does die, like
- 42:33Speaker 3: it's so quick and yet ends so fast. And I
- 42:37Speaker 3: kind of dig that because that's realistic to this setting,
- 42:41Speaker 3: and it makes the movie interesting of like quite literally,
- 42:43Speaker 3: not like you don't know who can make it out
- 42:46Speaker 3: and they don't think they're edgy for it, if that
- 42:48Speaker 3: makes any sense. It's not like, yeah, this is pre
- 42:51Speaker 3: Game of Thrones, so like after Game of Thrones, everyone
- 42:53Speaker 3: thought by having major people killed that you could keep interest,
- 42:57Speaker 3: but this is pre that, and so they're being very
- 43:00Speaker 3: nonchalant and just kind of casual about them killing off
- 43:04Speaker 3: major quote unquote folks, and I like that a lot.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I will say, here's the point.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I mean, I think we can ride this train of
- 43:12Speaker 1: like some weird, surprising good moments here. I think Alice's
- 43:16Speaker 1: transformation from the first movie to the second movie is
- 43:19Speaker 1: like jarring almost. But I think we kind of, like
- 43:21Speaker 1: I know, in the future movies, we kind of go
- 43:23Speaker 1: into the more of the like sciency aspect of her,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and we kind of dabble in it here with the
- 43:27Speaker 1: whole Nemesis.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Program thing, right right, Oh yeah, because she's got like
- 43:31Speaker 3: t vyers in hers is a reveal I kind of
- 43:34Speaker 3: dug it because we talk a lot about like Mary
- 43:37Speaker 3: Sues or like and again I hate that term, but
- 43:40Speaker 3: there needs to be more general neutral term for it,
- 43:42Speaker 3: but just like a character that can do everything out
- 43:44Speaker 3: of nowhere, right, yeah, someone make a gender neutral term
- 43:48Speaker 3: for that, please, a Kevin Sue or some shit like that.
- 43:53Speaker 3: But I feel like this was earned in a way
- 43:56Speaker 3: because it was established that she was like a secret agent,
- 43:59Speaker 3: she just had an So her just being able to
- 44:02Speaker 3: do whatever in this movie was like really funny but
- 44:06Speaker 3: also kind of did make sense, whereas from Turm Raider
- 44:09Speaker 3: one to Tom Rader two it did make sense, Like, no,
- 44:12Speaker 3: it didn't make sense for Laracraft to be like a superhero.
- 44:15Speaker 3: It made a little bit more sense here, because at
- 44:17Speaker 3: least Alice had one scene at the very end of
- 44:19Speaker 3: the first movie that felt superhero wee. So now she's
- 44:22Speaker 3: just doing that more in full force. Also, there are
- 44:24Speaker 3: two There's one character development point that I thought was
- 44:27Speaker 3: very good. Jill Valentine has a friend who gets infected,
- 44:31Speaker 3: and Alice straight up goes, Marcus, ass fuck him.
- 44:35Speaker 2: I did this with Michelle Rodriguez. It sucked ass.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Kill him right now, And I went, actually, that's that's
- 44:42Speaker 3: actual character filment. Between movie one and two. We have
- 44:44Speaker 3: literally never had that in this entire fucking podcast series.
- 44:48Speaker 3: We have not had that.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 1: And also again you go back, like when he is killed,
- 44:53Speaker 1: it is like very unceremonious. It's very just like like
- 44:56Speaker 1: secondary to the scene that's our first real Nemesis encounter
- 44:59Speaker 1: with a Yeah, between Nemesis and Alice. Yeah, we do
- 45:04Speaker 1: get a moment of Jill kind of like reeling with
- 45:07Speaker 1: the emotion of it because she has like a like
- 45:09Speaker 1: a moment of downtime actually trying to like you know,
- 45:11Speaker 1: hot wire the car. And it's like, yeah, because like
- 45:13Speaker 1: in reality, you don't have time to stop, and more
- 45:15Speaker 1: than somebody who died when you were literally being shot
- 45:17Speaker 1: at by a super zombie with like a machine gun.
- 45:20Speaker 1: But like when you have a moment you're sitting down,
- 45:22Speaker 1: you're finally taking a breath, You're not like in immediate danger,
- 45:25Speaker 1: it hits you a little bit like it honestly like
- 45:27Speaker 1: Jill's defining moment.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Weirdly is that moment?
- 45:30Speaker 3: M Yeah, yeah, yeah absolutely, and she gets she gets
- 45:32Speaker 3: to grow faster because she's under the tutelage or at
- 45:35Speaker 3: least the guidance of of Alice, which is really cool.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Speaking of a zombie holding a chain gun. Uh, Nemesis
- 45:41Speaker 3: looks very good. We've seen some hopy effects. It looks
- 45:45Speaker 3: like a practical suit. It is wonderful. He yeah, he
- 45:50Speaker 3: even growls like stars, which I think is from that game.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, is that one? I know?
- 45:56Speaker 3: Yeah, we know this all right, awesome, Yeah, that's a
- 45:59Speaker 3: great that's a each kudos right there, boom you like it.
- 46:02Speaker 3: Let's just retroactively put like negative three points for like
- 46:05Speaker 3: the fucking bad acting and plot points.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Yes, yes, because we're totally keeping track of these, and
- 46:10Speaker 1: we'll use him to accurately replect our scores the end.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Uh huh yep, yah, yeah, totally yeah, this gimmick. There's
- 46:16Speaker 3: an awesome scene. Now I'm gonna transition Nemesis here. So
- 46:18Speaker 3: Nemesis is big flat zombie. He was Seth Green in
- 46:21Speaker 3: the previous movie. By the way, Seth Green is not
- 46:24Speaker 3: in these movies. Seth Green is just my terminology for
- 46:27Speaker 3: any gawky white nerd in the early two thousands. Like
- 46:33Speaker 3: it feels like, if it feels like this character could
- 46:35Speaker 3: be played by Steph Green, He's gonna be a virtual
- 46:37Speaker 3: Steph Green.
- 46:38Speaker 1: It's funny because in my mind when I think of
- 46:39Speaker 1: like Horror and Seth Green, I immediately done to his
- 46:41Speaker 1: character in Buffy and I'm like, yeah, his character in Buffy.
- 46:45Speaker 2: This could be his.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I was, I was gonna, No, he's not in Scooby Doo,
- 46:48Speaker 3: is he? Or is he in Scooby Doo with James Gunn?
- 46:50Speaker 4: Oh?
- 46:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he isn't one of the later ones.
- 46:52Speaker 3: Isn't he like he becomes like Kist or is it
- 46:54Speaker 3: another guy who kind of looks like Seth Green? It
- 46:58Speaker 3: could be other two anyways, So Nemesis turns out to
- 47:03Speaker 3: be the Seth Green character from the previous movie, and
- 47:06Speaker 3: there's a scene. I'll be honest, I kind of tuned out,
- 47:09Speaker 3: but it was kind of fucking hilarious where they're like, hey, Alice,
- 47:13Speaker 3: you're a secret sleeper agent for Umbrella. Now go punch Nemesis.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Go yeah, they can hire that entire like ending segment
- 47:24Speaker 1: of the movie of just like there's.
- 47:26Speaker 3: A ring of dudes watching her fist fight Nemesis.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I know.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Like the idea clearly is to get to the reveal
- 47:33Speaker 1: where she figures out who it is and feels bad
- 47:35Speaker 1: for him, and then he like h realizes she's figured
- 47:38Speaker 1: it out, so he has a heart suddenly and is
- 47:39Speaker 1: no longer under brain control computer vision mode.
- 47:43Speaker 3: We've seen for sure, Like fuck is it's so awesome
- 47:47Speaker 3: the transition though, because we know that we know that
- 47:49Speaker 3: because there's that sting at the end of the first
- 47:51Speaker 3: movie that says bring him to the Nemesis program.
- 47:54Speaker 2: But in the.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Context of this situation, there's all these bad guys. They're
- 47:58Speaker 3: like there's like twenty thirty masked dudes in black and
- 48:02Speaker 3: like this guy's just like, hey, go punch this thing
- 48:05Speaker 3: that you've shot at sent rocket towards launch grenades that
- 48:09Speaker 3: never even scratched him. You want to go punch him
- 48:12Speaker 3: while we watch, And she's like, yeah, I dude, Yeah,
- 48:15Speaker 3: I'm gonna punch him.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I love how she's like, no, I don't want to
- 48:18Speaker 1: do that with the fun it's stupid. He's like, I'll
- 48:20Speaker 1: kill the random science guy in the wheelchair if you
- 48:22Speaker 1: don't do it. Oh is that one hit? And then
- 48:25Speaker 1: she's like, okay, fine, okay, you shot the girl's father.
- 48:28Speaker 1: We saved because yeah, don't forget we as of like
- 48:32Speaker 1: the scientist who was like, you know, like extracted before
- 48:35Speaker 1: everything got too bad because he's a higher up scientist.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Turns out invented the virus. Sure, his daughter who's just
- 48:41Speaker 1: you know, like I'm gonna stay in the school and
- 48:43Speaker 1: hide because my my truck got hit and the people
- 48:47Speaker 1: left me here. We also we also passed something that
- 48:51Speaker 1: I need to go back and yell about for sure.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I think this is like the new thing I have.
- 48:55Speaker 1: I was like every one of these movies says like
- 48:56Speaker 1: a moment that I'm just like no, no, no, I'm fucking
- 48:59Speaker 1: so mad at the scene to yell okay, it's the
- 49:03Speaker 1: graveyard scene. It's a short scene. They end up been
- 49:05Speaker 1: a graveyard for like four minutes, like just wandering through
- 49:07Speaker 1: because it's the quickest way to get where the school
- 49:09Speaker 1: I guess is or something. Uh, and then of course
- 49:12Speaker 1: it's a graveyard. What the fuck is gonna happen? But zombies?
- 49:14Speaker 1: But we know the virus infects you, then you die,
- 49:17Speaker 1: reanimates the corpse. Okay, I that makes sense perfectly. I've
- 49:21Speaker 1: accepted this, this this thing, and you know what, like
- 49:24Speaker 1: maybe the recently deceased if they're not infected, but like
- 49:26Speaker 1: they can become infected because they're still like bodies. I'll
- 49:28Speaker 1: even believe because of like some mumbo jumbo bs from
- 49:31Speaker 1: the first film that like it adapts and can spread
- 49:32Speaker 1: through anything. So like, yeah, gets into the ground, get
- 49:35Speaker 1: to the cemetery. Shure, I'll even ignore the obvious flaw
- 49:37Speaker 1: that like could you imagine being in a box six
- 49:39Speaker 1: feet underground, buried and like bursting your way through it?
- 49:42Speaker 1: Like these zombies can be really get to a fence?
- 49:44Speaker 2: Fuck?
- 49:44Speaker 1: Yeah, what I will harp on though the thing, like
- 49:48Speaker 1: all of this I will let slide. Yeah, why are
- 49:51Speaker 1: there so many recently dead people in this town? Like
- 49:54Speaker 1: three apocalypse? Like every fucking like I'm sorry, you bury
- 49:59Speaker 1: somebody and they're there for like more than a month
- 50:02Speaker 1: or two. There's body reanimate like growing body and like
- 50:07Speaker 1: clothes that have expired on these skeletons, Like, what the
- 50:10Speaker 1: fuck is happening here?
- 50:12Speaker 2: Sorry, that's just like piece three off. It's like this
- 50:14Speaker 2: makes no sense.
- 50:15Speaker 3: What the fuck?
- 50:15Speaker 2: Man?
- 50:16Speaker 3: No for sure, and like there's there's a bunch of
- 50:18Speaker 3: other things that they try to explain about the T virus,
- 50:20Speaker 3: which I'm sure has also happened in the games where
- 50:23Speaker 3: they're like, oh, here's a scientific explanation for zombies. But
- 50:26Speaker 3: in the original movie they're like they're just reanimated corpses
- 50:30Speaker 3: with one impulse. And then like one of the thug
- 50:33Speaker 3: guys are like, what's that impulse?
- 50:35Speaker 2: Eat?
- 50:36Speaker 3: And that was like one of the flaws with that
- 50:38Speaker 3: first movie. But for me, I was like, I mean, yeah, sure,
- 50:43Speaker 3: but like other people, that's that's the first impulse you
- 50:46Speaker 3: have is to eat other people. And then to your point,
- 50:48Speaker 3: if you're in a cemetery, I don't know if you
- 50:50Speaker 3: need to eat so bad you claw six feet off
- 50:53Speaker 3: of the fucking ground, you know what I mean? I think, Yeah,
- 50:56Speaker 3: I think your impulse is I'm gonna sit tight right here.
- 50:58Speaker 3: This is pretty hard.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Like I'm sure someone smarter than you can probably tell you,
- 51:01Speaker 1: like how long, like like, let's assume the T virus
- 51:04Speaker 1: existed and like work the way it says it does.
- 51:07Speaker 1: How like how far decomposed could a body be before?
- 51:10Speaker 1: Like the reanimation is basically useless because it's like the
- 51:12Speaker 1: body is like dead, right, yeah, but like these are
- 51:17Speaker 1: all like fresh bodies and it's like every fucking grave.
- 51:21Speaker 1: I also love the fact that like we have this
- 51:23Speaker 1: like the first movie established the hive underground super secret.
- 51:26Speaker 1: No one knows about it. I'm pretty sure Mila and
- 51:30Speaker 1: Nemesis here we're just like in the regular public, everyday hospital.
- 51:34Speaker 1: You're just we're gonna build this super like tank fuck
- 51:37Speaker 1: zombie man like three doors down from like the kids
- 51:41Speaker 1: with cancer ward because I don't know, we need a
- 51:44Speaker 1: spot to do is and the high was expensive and stupid.
- 51:48Speaker 3: There's a lot of a there's a lot of world
- 51:50Speaker 3: building in the sense that there's a lot of like
- 51:52Speaker 3: pieces that they're trying to build up, right.
- 51:53Speaker 2: There's journalism.
- 51:54Speaker 3: There's like getting this story out is like also a
- 51:57Speaker 3: subplot in this actually in the morning that I delve
- 51:59Speaker 3: into this. It's written. It's written with love. I was
- 52:03Speaker 3: almost gonna say it's written well, but it's written with
- 52:06Speaker 3: love it. Yeah, yeah, because now that now that I
- 52:09Speaker 3: know that Paul W. S Anderson was the one who
- 52:11Speaker 3: wrote it, this makes more sense. And there's definitely like
- 52:14Speaker 3: world building that's happening. Yeah, there is. There is also
- 52:17Speaker 3: a tendency for these movies to end kind of the same,
- 52:20Speaker 3: and I wonder if that's a trend for upcoming movies
- 52:22Speaker 3: where it's like, all right, Mila has now arct and
- 52:27Speaker 3: now we're gonna.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Take her off the table.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Oh wait, but she's still obviously she's the face of
- 52:32Speaker 3: like eight fucking movies.
- 52:33Speaker 2: So here she is waking up.
- 52:35Speaker 3: In a hospital bed time to get get ready for
- 52:38Speaker 3: number three baby sequels on end?
- 52:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and you had you had a note about this?
- 52:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Really the first of all, the ending is tacked on,
- 52:46Speaker 1: like it feels like there's like extra like like twenty
- 52:49Speaker 1: minutes of movie where it's like, oh, they got out
- 52:52Speaker 1: and the helicopter crash and they recovered her, and then
- 52:54Speaker 1: like she's been there for a few weeks, but the
- 52:56Speaker 1: other people like managed to get like fake IDs and
- 52:59Speaker 1: a car to neak in and get her out, and
- 53:01Speaker 1: like people just believe them. Like it's like the most
- 53:04Speaker 1: bizarre thing and like she's like in this weird fish tank,
- 53:07Speaker 1: naked floating in the thing, and I just I, yes,
- 53:12Speaker 1: it's not a bad thing. And I just wrote this
- 53:14Speaker 1: and I have to share it. If I had a
- 53:16Speaker 1: nickel for every time I watched a female game protagonist
- 53:19Speaker 1: who's incredibly talented and both armed and unarmed combat fight,
- 53:22Speaker 1: pull in a harness midair, and ride a badass motorcycle,
- 53:25Speaker 1: then have to deal with an evil sexy Dora Mormont,
- 53:28Speaker 1: I'd have two Nichols.
- 53:30Speaker 3: I just want to explain to the audience. Now you're
- 53:35Speaker 3: already alienated by somehow you're listening to this and you're like,
- 53:39Speaker 3: I've never seen a resident Evil movie.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I've never watched in.
- 53:41Speaker 3: A resident Evil movie. We've also just now inserted a
- 53:43Speaker 3: Phineas and Fur reference to this fucking podcast, because I feel.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Like those memes are so good even if you didn't
- 53:51Speaker 1: watch the show, like like I never watched I know
- 53:53Speaker 1: the memes.
- 53:54Speaker 3: Oh okay, gotcha, Because I was about to say, this
- 53:56Speaker 3: makes sense to me, Drew, and that's why we're on
- 53:58Speaker 3: a podcast together. I don't don't know if this travels
- 54:01Speaker 3: to I.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Think it's I think, and again, like I hang up
- 54:04Speaker 1: a lot of younger people I've learned. I'm like Aaron,
- 54:06Speaker 1: I'm I'm the old guy in a lot of groups here.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I feel like it'll it'll carry with our audience. We
- 54:10Speaker 1: have a cool hip audience, right.
- 54:13Speaker 3: I feel like resident Evil. You also like Phineas and
- 54:17Speaker 3: the Venn diagram for that is a circle? Uh yeah?
- 54:21Speaker 1: But do Mormons back again as like weird bad guy
- 54:24Speaker 1: who's kind of sexy.
- 54:25Speaker 3: Yes, which is a reference to tomb Raider if you
- 54:27Speaker 3: haven't listened to that episode.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Mama brings up to that.
- 54:30Speaker 3: So what's up with Doora Mormont's actor being in schlocky
- 54:34Speaker 3: video game movies?
- 54:35Speaker 2: That's what's like. I'm waiting for his third his third appearance,
- 54:38Speaker 2: like it will be the trifecta.
- 54:40Speaker 3: He's gotta be right, Like that guy's gonna be the
- 54:42Speaker 3: future Charles Dance. You know Charles Dance has a lot
- 54:46Speaker 3: of cameos. Is evil British old man in movies? Oh
- 54:49Speaker 3: oh yes, okay, yeah, no, yeah, I know what you mean.
- 54:51Speaker 3: He's gonna be Charles Dance in like ten years. No,
- 54:55Speaker 3: it's a great it's it's a great coincidence. It's a
- 54:57Speaker 3: great thing to bring up. Uh, it is very very weird,
- 55:00Speaker 3: and there's a connection to tomb Raider.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Well we also get like I've seen in this movie,
- 55:03Speaker 1: like just I reference it here, but like where she
- 55:06Speaker 1: like runs down the building by the way, a building
- 55:09Speaker 1: in Toronto.
- 55:09Speaker 2: I was I've been there. Yes, a lot of this
- 55:12Speaker 2: was filmed in Toronto.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that building, Like, yeah, it's a stupid thing
- 55:17Speaker 1: where it's whenever I'm in Toronto, I see that building somehow,
- 55:19Speaker 1: and I'm like, the resident evil too building she runs down.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I know that movie well, but yeah, like she runs
- 55:26Speaker 1: down and then still still in the harness. So she
- 55:28Speaker 1: has like some like a realist movements going on, fights
- 55:31Speaker 1: a bunch of like faceless thugs, And I'm like, is
- 55:34Speaker 1: this just every female protagonist in a video game movie.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Have to do this?
- 55:37Speaker 3: Now?
- 55:38Speaker 2: Yes?
- 55:39Speaker 1: Yes, yes, it's an obligation. Yeah, the next Mortal Combat
- 55:43Speaker 1: Tonya Blade's gonna have to do it.
- 55:44Speaker 3: At some point, I was about to say, I don't know,
- 55:47Speaker 3: I can't remember if there's any other video game movies.
- 55:49Speaker 2: Maybe the Legend of Chun Lee. Maybe she does that.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I think that's the next movie with a female video
- 55:55Speaker 3: game protagonists. I don't know.
- 55:57Speaker 2: As the lead I should say.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say, I'm like next, the only
- 56:00Speaker 1: one I can think of having is like, I know,
- 56:01Speaker 1: we're getting that Lesondo Zelda movie in like three years apparently, and.
- 56:05Speaker 2: They're gonna split that though.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just gonna be two twinks talking to each other,
- 56:09Speaker 3: which is what all elves are, regardless of gender and
- 56:12Speaker 3: age and size.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and I approve of it. Yeah, these movies
- 56:17Speaker 2: were interesting.
- 56:18Speaker 3: Man as as a person who had not grown up
- 56:20Speaker 3: with these, I find I find they're aesthetic really like
- 56:24Speaker 3: charming in the sense that, like I liked movies that
- 56:26Speaker 3: were kind of like this, I did not somehow watch
- 56:28Speaker 3: these in their era. But as an adult they are
- 56:32Speaker 3: objectively bad. Like they're bad. They're the best. I will
- 56:36Speaker 3: say though, this sequel is probably the best sequel we
- 56:39Speaker 3: have seen. I will give it kudos to that. I
- 56:43Speaker 3: think it is better than Annihilation. Let's talk. Let's think
- 56:45Speaker 3: about this. It's more common Annihilation and it's Tom raight
- 56:47Speaker 3: Er two. Those are two sequels that we're working with.
- 56:50Speaker 3: And this is the best sequel because it is.
- 56:53Speaker 2: I mean not a high bar across, but I mean like, yeah,
- 56:56Speaker 2: you're right, and.
- 56:57Speaker 3: I know and I don't know if it's it's not
- 56:59Speaker 3: bad than the original. It's not worse than the original
- 57:04Speaker 3: necessarily either, Like coming from this from a non nostalgic
- 57:07Speaker 3: lens of view, there's parts that are better and there's
- 57:10Speaker 3: parts that are definitely worse. So I think it gets
- 57:13Speaker 3: Kudo's points for being the best sequel we've seen.
- 57:17Speaker 2: I like these.
- 57:19Speaker 3: I think I like these. I've had worse.
- 57:21Speaker 1: I've had worse viewing experience as part of this project,
- 57:24Speaker 1: you know what, I'll take that as a win as
- 57:26Speaker 1: someone who still holds a bit of nostalgia to this,
- 57:28Speaker 1: to this specific movie. And again, it's one of those
- 57:31Speaker 1: things too where I think, like watching the second one
- 57:33Speaker 1: again for the first time in so many years, I'm
- 57:35Speaker 1: like reminded how many moments from it that like still
- 57:37Speaker 1: stuck with me, and I'm like, oh, yeah, like this
- 57:39Speaker 1: was like when I think back to the movie, I
- 57:41Speaker 1: kind of lumped the two together and forgot I did that.
- 57:44Speaker 2: M hmm, yeah, I could see that.
- 57:46Speaker 3: I could see that for sure, because there's a lot
- 57:47Speaker 3: of similarity similarities between these two.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I also will say I kind of love and it's
- 57:52Speaker 1: something you don't see. I feel like you see it
- 57:54Speaker 1: once in a while, and now with movies, but like,
- 57:55Speaker 1: I feel like it's a fun thing. Is that like
- 57:58Speaker 1: it literally picks up where the other left off, Like
- 58:00Speaker 1: there is no gap, and it's literally like the first
- 58:03Speaker 1: movie ends with her in that like weird half a
- 58:06Speaker 1: paper gown thing finding the shotgun in the police car,
- 58:09Speaker 1: and that's like how this movie starts.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Essentially. It's like I like that, It's it's fun.
- 58:13Speaker 3: Yeah, this movie, the sequel is also not a complete
- 58:16Speaker 3: rehash of the first, which is what a few movies
- 58:18Speaker 3: do in their sequels. It is very similar. There's definitely
- 58:21Speaker 3: some similarities, don't get me wrong, but it didn't feel
- 58:25Speaker 3: like this movie again.
- 58:27Speaker 1: No, yeah, even just the switch from like a small team,
- 58:31Speaker 1: self contained like in the Lab the Hive now into
- 58:35Speaker 1: like a full city and I know, like I've alluded
- 58:38Speaker 1: to the other ones that kind of like obviously gets
- 58:40Speaker 1: out and goes into the whole world and then eventually
- 58:42Speaker 1: goes into like countries, continents, worlds and like apocalypse, like
- 58:44Speaker 1: literal apocalypse. M I feel like this They jumped the
- 58:48Speaker 1: gun on the title for this one a bit.
- 58:51Speaker 2: Who knew?
- 58:52Speaker 4: Who knew?
- 58:52Speaker 3: Yeah, So I guess the only thing left is to
- 58:55Speaker 3: officially rate them here.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:57Speaker 3: So first off, I think we kind of answer or
- 59:00Speaker 3: this like is it a good movie for me?
- 59:02Speaker 2: I would say not good movies.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Both of them. I would say, not good movies me personally. Okay, okay,
- 59:11Speaker 3: I give them two snake coins out.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Of three to open the door. There you go. Uh
- 59:19Speaker 2: you know what I think?
- 59:20Speaker 1: Look looking back rewatching them now, I think the first
- 59:24Speaker 1: one still held a.
- 59:25Speaker 2: Good spot with me.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Like, I think I noticed a lot more of the
- 59:28Speaker 1: like the bad acting or like the weird plot things
- 59:30Speaker 1: you don't notice as a kid. But again, I feel
- 59:33Speaker 1: like even modern movies like there, if you really like
- 59:35Speaker 1: look back at some of the like modern films that
- 59:38Speaker 1: you like might enjoy, like there are some really weird
- 59:40Speaker 1: little plot hole moments or like yeah, you know, cool
- 59:43Speaker 1: for cool sake things. And then going to the second one,
- 59:46Speaker 1: like I definitely agree it is not a good movie. Weirdly,
- 59:50Speaker 1: if there was another movie between these two where it
- 59:53Speaker 1: was a little bit more self contained before it became
- 59:56Speaker 1: like cause again, like we'd even covered there's like the
- 59:58Speaker 1: random like like gangster dude with like his solid goal
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: in this movie, it's like it's like he serves no purpose,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: He's purely there as a comic relief character, which again
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: like sometimes is good and especially if he gets like
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: a redemption arc or has a bravery Yeah, like he
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: has like what like one or two funny lines, and
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: even then I think he's like funniest moment is just
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: when he drops the guns and like the the the
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: hud for Nemesis goes like not a threat anymore. It's
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: like he otherwise does nothing like the other. The other
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I think it's Nikolai is the other agent who gets killed,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: but at least has like some funny like chewing the scene,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: like look to camera like oh, like at least he
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: was relevant to the plot and like did things and
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: like thought, yeah, second movie, No, doesn't hold up, and
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it was not a good movie.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: That's fair, that's fair.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: But as an adaptation, I'd say these are very good,
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: potentially the most accurate adaptations in the sense that like
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: it's not one for one by any means. There's like Alice.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: There's an Alice character. She's Alice Wong, I believe, or
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: eight a long I actually don't know, but it feels
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: like a resident evil like it feels like a like
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: a game, right, So for that I'm gonna give it.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna give it a resid Evil five infinite rocket
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: right there.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: That's that's my.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Rating for Yeah, I say the adaptation side of this
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: is a lot better like that. Like I said, there's
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: just there were so many moments watching the first movie
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: where it's like like the weird camera shots her like
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: rumming through the house looking for things. There's a moment
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: at the beginning where like she sees the note I
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: don't think we learned from her like fake husband, and
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: she tries to write the same thing underneath to see
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: who would match her own handwriting, like just like really
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: good video gamey ass like cruel moments that felt like
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: they really like they understood the source material kind of moments. Yeah,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: and then like the actual like like again disconnect a
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: little bit, but like yeah, the bass like on the
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: AI understanding it had to do what it had to
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: do and it was like the only option to it had.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: And then even when they get there, it kind of
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: like fucks them a bit and lies about like they're
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: being a cure because it knows it's not gonna work
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and if it tells them, they'll just give them hope
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: they don't have. Yeah, and like it even says like, okay, fine,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I'll let you go, but kill Michelle Rodriguez first because
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: it's not gonna set it free and I can't let
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: that happen. It's got so many good like video game
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: moments that I feel it could be like direct cut
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: scenes in the game in a good way.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: For sure.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: I definitely give this the rocket launcher I saved until
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: the very end that I wasn't gonna use.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Use it now.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Wow, two rocket launchers for the adoptation part. That gets
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: our two rocket launcher thumbs up.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Baby yeah boy, this is where everyone was like a
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: video there, it'd be like it was a really terrible
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: CG like rocket launcher animation.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: But I'm gonna rank one of these in the top five,
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know what, Like, I need to go
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: look at my list again. I don't doubt Resident Eeoples
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: gonna get pretty high on my list, but the second
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: one might sneak in there.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Depending I got like I got a review. I gotta
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: look at my list again. Stay tuned for our press play.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Top five. Number five will surprise.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I figure, I figure maybe one day we'll move to
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: a ten when we have enough films on the list,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: but for now five as fun, well we will. We
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: will take our own little break now to go inject
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: ourselves with some anti virus bullshit and uh head on
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: over to a little mini game. Welcome to the game
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: section of Press Play. We are here for a little
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: bit of post Resident Evil game. I'm words I did.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I realized I wrote a game, but i'd write a
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: preamble for it. I figured like I've done this enough,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing. I'm a professimental but I'm
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: here as always with my lovely beeft Bro and co
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: host Jason who you just heard us gab about these
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: films for a little bit with and we needed someone
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: to play some games with, so I brought in the
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: lovely Aaron Randolph say hello, Hello, excited.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: To be here as always, love hanging out with you.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Guys, Love talking video games with you. Man. Hell yeah,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: oh it's always fun.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I feel like, without giving anything away, there is a
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: difference in our upbringing in what video games we played,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: and we.
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: Ah, yeah, we were discussing just before we started recording.
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: There's a bit of an age gap. Uh just no,
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: it's really minor. It's really minor. I'm only forty five.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: But yeah, no, I love Resident and Evil, so this
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: was just exciting for me. Like, uh, I've only seen
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: the first Resident Evil movie, but in terms of games,
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: I've played and beaten every single one except for Resident
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: Evil Revelations two and the game Boy Color Resident Evil
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: Guidan I've never beaten.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I'm sorry there's a game Boy Color Resident Evil that
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: I didn't know about this.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: Yes, yess one didn't know that either.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: Yep, beat beat Resident Evil Revelations. The first one I
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: was good, just beat Revelations was PS three x X
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: three sixty and PC I think yeah, and uh and
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: Resident Evil Village is the most recent, and I'd actually
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: put that off for some time. I think I was
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: a little bit scared of mommy.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: But yes, I think we all had feelings about mommy.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Don't worry, Yes, but I fully embrace mother.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: There literally literally beat the Residonaval Village just last week.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: Wow, Yeah didn't we didn't they just announce eight like
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: a few weeks ago.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: Uh? Yeah, I think this is this is yeah, Resident
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Evil eight at this point, Yeah.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: It's got, it's got because no Village.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Village was eight.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: No, I oh right, it was eight. So this is
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: I guess nine.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: They just so this is technically nine.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Yeah crazy, they did just announce a new Resident Evil
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: trying to type like keyboards a mile away.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, I was old school. I started with Resident
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Evil two way back in like nineteen ninety six or
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: ninety eight. It had to be ninety eight because I
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: was a freshman in college when I got it, I
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: was two years old, and I was so excited because
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: this was the first video game I bought in college
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: with my own money, and it was the first it
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: was the first used game I ever bought online, and
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: I was super nervous, and I remember I remember sending
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: the guy an email after I placed the order, this
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: is my first ever online order. Please make sure it's
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: a good copy, and he said he's at back, don't worry.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: I checked and made sure we got you the best one.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: He threw in some extra little stickers and things, for
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: which I thought was wow.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: See I bought the total opposite story where my brother
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: tried to for the first time, buy a game online.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I think it was a copy of GTA three or
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: potentially Sandoy. Yes, my mother helped him do the eBay
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: purchase and he accidentally just purchased cheat codes that the
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: guy literally just printed and put an envelope in mail
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: to him for the for roughly the price of a
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: PS two game at the time.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah no.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: And the fact that he makes a living with email
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: now just has like you know, it was a it
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: was almost like a vindication for him.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: Was like he bayed my bitch.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Now that was his villain Dude, that was the start
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: of his villain arc. God damn, like.
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: Screw me, I'll screw everyone on. So clearly you have
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: a connection with the franchise. I'll repeat everyone who's heard ours.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: But like I said, I'm much more of the movies.
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: And again Resident Evil two, I feel like no one
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: played Resident Evil one, like no one talks about it.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: I did after the fact, when I realized I liked
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: Resident Evil too so much, I decided to go back
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: and get the original. And so the original is kind
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: of weird in that there's three versions for the original PlayStation.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: There's the original one, there's the director's cut, which I
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: think is the best one, and then there's the director's
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: cut dual shock version, which, for reasons unknown, they replaced
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: the entire soundtrack with a much worse version. Like bad, bad,
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: Like that's awesome, It's incredible. So just a little a
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: handy tip for if you're looking for retro games, get
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: the directors cut without the dual shock. Trust me.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: I feel like that's one of those things that happens.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Like I I was because of the whole Final Fantasy
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: crossover with Magic the gathering. I was like going back,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: like which onees I replay? What old game should I play?
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: And someone was like this one, but you need this
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: version of it. But if you're gonna play the RAM,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: get this hacked ROM because they put the proper audio
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: files in, unlike the original version, which has like a
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: broken audio system.
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: And it's like what, Oh man, don't get me started
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: on mods. They got randomizers now for these games. Oh
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: my god, to talk about I love. There is a project.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: I can't remember the name of it. I wish I could.
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: I think it's like Resident Evil Recode or something like that.
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: But what they did was they took the best possible
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: copy of those original games on the PC they released.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: They released around like two thousand only in Japan, but
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: they took them because they these were the best ones.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: You could upscale them, the higher resolutions and you know,
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: all the extra fun stuff was thrown in and they
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: basically retold them so that you can play them on
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: modern PCs in old ten ADP Pre sixty controller whatever
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: you got handy, and it's super easy to work with
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: and it just works. And I'm like, I love people
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: who like find ways to bring games forward to new systems,
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: if that makes sense. Yeah, and then they also did
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: it with Dino Crisis, which.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Is I love Dino Crisis. Oh yeah.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: But also like and again, like as much as I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: want to listen here in like praise capitalism, like a
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: small pose to the companies that like let this slide
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: where there's like, yeah, like what's like, what's the harm
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: let it happen?
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Fuck it?
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: Cap Com. Capcom tends to like embrace that stuff.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: A little bit more than like Square, you know, yeah,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: or like Nintendo when they like want to use like
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: the actual game for streaming.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: Yeah, so Capcom gets a little bit more of a
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: thumbs up from me. But oh yeah, I would also
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: hold off on the ya capitalism Yeah no, exactly boo
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: capital is.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: But at least the ones who are playing and being
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: a little bit nice.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: To the little guys, yeah, for sure. Well, speaking of capitalism.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: That is kind of a good segue into today's game.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Today's game, we will be playing what I have titled
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Pride and Prejudice and knockoffs. Yeah, there we go, double
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: double whammy. In today's game, I have Portland Toad some
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: titles to create a new generation of amazing zombie movies.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: I will describe to you my creation a combination of
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: two existing pieces of media, one of which will always
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: be zombie related. You will buzz in as you see
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: fit I have here. I told you to buzz them
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: like going breaks, as best as you can, but it
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: feels really hard to buzz in with. So just yeah,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: just yell something that makes your Buzz'll trust you. Just
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: there you go. So I do have an example one
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: for you to give you an idea of what this is.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: This is worth no points, but feel for the buzz
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: and if.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: You can know it.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Much like on the main feet games, you are allowed
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: to interrupt me, but if you want to hear the
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: whole thing, go ahead. So my example is often mocked
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: as the worst romantic story ever written, but in this version,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: they all get eaten by the undead, even though some
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: of them are already undead. Personally, I'm team zombies.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: I get the two properties, but I don't get like
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: the pun I suppose.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: So again, it's not even a pun. It's just if
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: you have the two titles there is the one will
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: end with word a, that will begin with word a.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: But together, I'll try any you won't give it a shot.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: The Zombie Room, Oh my god.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: No, no, that is. That is also a pretty bad
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: love story.
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: This one is.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I think it's just well accepted as a meme being
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: the worst love story ever written. Jason, you said you
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: have the two properties. You want to take a give
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: me the two properties if you can work away.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: It feels like it's Twilight and something zombies. Okay, is
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: it like Twilight Breaking, Dawn of the Zombies or some
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: ship down of the dead.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: That's exactly what it is. Okay, okay, okay.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I will say now, just because two of them were
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: too good to pass up. I did drop the somewhere
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: in the title, like I removed the at the beginning
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: at something that it works. But I think they'll be
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: pre fairly obvious when you get them, and you'll be
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: able to live without them. Try if you think you
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: know it. Buzz in hopefully and it makes it sound good,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: and hopefully these are actually funny, and you know some of these.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: I feel like all the zombie movies they shows are
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: fairly well known. Maybe the first one's a bit of
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: an odd one, but there should be good. Number one,
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: seven Dwarves have to defend a sleeping princess from a
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: horde of Nazi zombies that have dug their way out
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: of some surrounding ice capped mountains. Seven Dwarfs. We have
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: icy mountains and Nazi zombies. I would just be guessing.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I mean, if you try, I'll play you right out.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: The hard part of this game was that most zombie
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: movies have the very fucking similar names.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: Yeah, buzz, what you got air Snow White and the
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: seven Nazi Zombies?
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Okay, well you bought the snow White Park there. I'll
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: give you that one. At least, I'll give you a
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: half point if nothing else. Jason, you dig a guess
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: what the other movie might be called that either has
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: snow and or white in the name.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: This is a really bad time to reveal that I
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: don't like zombie movies or care about them.
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: Oh man, yeah, tell me about it. I can't watch
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: stuff with Gore. So zombie movies are pretty much right.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Out the best two players for this game.
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: So you absolutely could not have picked two worse people.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: To play this.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: Yeah, like for sure, for sure, So I guess I'll yeah,
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: snow White and Call of Duty World at War.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: This this was the the Nazi zombie movie Dead Snow
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: and snow White. For Dead Snow White, Okay, good.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: I think I was going the other way and considering
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: what Nazis were into, I didn't want to say what
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: that could have been.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Oh my god. Yeah, no, I I.
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: Was like, I was like snow White supremacy. Jesus Christ.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: No, that's the worst part is I can see the
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: like parody film that would exist. I will try a
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: different one. Years after a disease has destroyed his world,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: leaving him as the last man alive, this man and
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: his trusting companion, a horse, must survive and try to
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: find the cure. Unfortunately, his fairy in a bottle is
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: only good for one full heel.
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: Oh buzz, Yes, I am, I am Legend of Zelda.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: That's good.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: The first again, I recognize.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: I think a lot of these are gonna be in
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: that same vein of like. Oh, I've heard of it enough.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: To know.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: In the vein of game leapers, you know a like
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: game is super hard. When I'm very supportive of my.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Yo.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: At this point, it's almost bring into a team game
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: of between the two. You can somebody, please trust me.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: I'll be cheering you on too.
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: Oh my god. Okay, okay, I'll try this one. Here.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: A now decorated yet bumbling security guard arrives in Las
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Vegas just for a little getaway, but things go wrong
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: as a new disease spreads, and by the end of
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: exactly four weeks, things are looking bad.
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: Twenty eight Paul Blart Paul Blarts later.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: I, Jason, I'm just gonna give it to you because
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: you have it the title I had. I'm so sorry,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: is Paul Blart to Paul Bart molokop to many eight
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: days later.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, you're fucking ser.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: I can't believe.
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I had any I was hoping it was gonna
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: be something like Paul Blart twenty eight days.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: Blarterer, Oh, if we're doing just bad names, that can
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: do worse.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: But I was like, every fucking zomb movie either starts
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: or end with dead. That's all you have, So anything
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: that wasn't dead. I was like, hey, I have to
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: think this works somehow. I was like, what's the dumbest
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: sequel I can think of? After an experimental bioweapon is released,
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: turning thousands into zombie like creatures, it's up to a
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: team of children with magic rings to call forth the
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Earth's mightiest protector. If only he had a machine gun
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: for a leg.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: Uh oh, what's it called?
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: I mean you you. I'm guessing you have one of
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: the things already for both I.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: Do, I do, I just don't know the other one,
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: the age discrepancy.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: I know you and I have a but Jason might
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: be unsure of this one. Listen, I know Captain planet dude.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: I'll try it. Buzz Yeah, what do you got, I'll
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: try it? Is it?
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Is it?
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: Captain Planet Terror?
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: That is it?
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: My terror? Exactly.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I was trying to work a grindhouse pun into their
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: somewhere to make it fit, but I couldn't think of one.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: But once upon a time there was a lonely monster
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: who fell in love, but his true love is kidnapped
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: and he must rescue her. Featuring sword fights, giants, and poisons.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: He does succeed and they are brought together in mawage buzz.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: Uh. The Princess Bride of the Dead.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I mean, I'm ninety percent as probably a movie. I'll
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: tell you it was The Prince's Bride of Frankenstein. Interesting
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: technically a bunch of undead parts sewn together and resurrected
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: from the dead. I mean, I still, semantically, I'm pretty
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: sure if you said any like two or three word
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: combination with the word dead in there somewhere, it's a
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: zombie movie.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, probably, Okay, icebreaker question, Frankenstein a zombie that's a
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: good one.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Hey, get to us in the comments, send us an email,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: let us know your feelings about it.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: Or is which.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: I mean?
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Also, technically, there's just a bunch of pieces of meat
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: stacked together.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: I mean, if you're hungry enough, I mean, I guess
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: if you're hungry enough.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Anything could be a sandwich.
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: It depends on the picture of frankistein too. But the
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: man witch right there.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: A pop group tour is interrupted by a zombie outbreak
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: so large it spans more than just their precious little
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: homeland of the UK. Let's hope they can stop this
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: right now, Thank you very much. I'm hatting a lot
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: of blank faces on this one. I mean, is that
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: going to be offended if you didn't know this one? Yeah, Aaron,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: what do you have?
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Spice World of Zombies?
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: You know what again, there's a ninety chance there's a
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: movingled World of Zombies. I was going for World War Z,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: specifically with Spice World War damn it.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: Oh, because the movie is called Spice World. Yes, I
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: didn't know that. Okay, I didn't know that. I didn't
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: have World Wars zo.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Oh, dude, you should go watch the Spice Girls movie.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: It is like one of the most bizarre acid trips
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: you'll ever take the scene where they get fondled by
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: an alien while singing, like they just stumble across the
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: UFO in the woods and the aliens come down and
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: like grope them while they're singing, and then they get
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: back on the bus and continue the movie. It has
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: no plot relevance to the weird spy drama I think
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: that's happening. And also meat.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Loaf is their tour driver. Wow, it is.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Seriously like, I feel like you can't describe the moving
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: people who take you seriously, They're just gonna be like, no,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: you made that up.
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I would love the idea of me watching the
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: Spice Girls movie knowing very little about the Spice Girls period.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: I don't think. I think that actually might make it
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: easier to swallow, you think?
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: So?
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: I just found out who who? There's Posh Spice and
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: baby Spice.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Is there mean Spice? That just seems rude?
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Ginger?
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: Ginger? Ginger? Who are missing?
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: I think I named all of them that Yes, baby,
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: I'm the Ginger.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Five? Who's the fifth one? Mean scary Spice?
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: It's scary scary Save that for the Spice Girls episode.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: Lord knows Madden Audi will make that happen. We've only
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: got two left, and I haven't got one of these fuckers.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: I know you one point one? You want that point?
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: Yeah? I don't know if you're gonna live that down.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: If Paul Blart is the only one you have, come on, man,
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: that's my favorite zombie movie. Dude, This this one's for you.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: Kevin James is my idol.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: I legit started to listening to a podcast about Paul
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: Blart Ball Coop two where they just rewatch it every year.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: They just get they watch it, they review it every year.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: They're on their like eleventh year.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: This year it is.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: It is a nightmaretalism to the theories about the dream
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: Mans and the crow Person.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: That's like a podcast where every episode they review groundhog Day.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: It feel like that. Okay, oh they got two more left.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: See how we can do with these ones?
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: All?
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: After the loss of his mother, our protagonist joins a
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: ragtag group of prehistoric pals to journey across a zombie
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: filled America, each in search of something they desire, be
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: it food, family, or an amusement park, for one last
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: good thing before time is up for all of them.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: Oh buzz yeah, zombie Land before time.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: Yes, oh, zombie Land.
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: Zombie Land is one of the few zombie movies that
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: I've actually been able to watch, and that is a
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: great movie.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: It's like Shawn of the Dead, and that's saying like
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: yes to zombie movie, but it's much more about the
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: people in the comedy. And like, incidentally, there's a zombie
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: or two that's a very good, like non horror movie,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: horror movie.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: It's good.
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it feels more like it feels more like
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: an action comedy than a horror movie.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: You know it exactly.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: It's kind of like like again, I think Seanan is
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: the best comparison where it's like, yes, the zombie movie,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: but it's not about the zombies.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: Yeah, we have.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: One last one, Jase, maybe you can get this one.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: Uh And I don't know, just not and on a
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: Paul Bloer only score.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: This is how it was meant to be, for sure.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: I just I don't know. I think I think in
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: my heart of hearts, this might be doable for you.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: Maybe I think about Blar all the time.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: A podcast.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: I have a podcast where we watch it once a
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: year and only releases an episode.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: The maclroy's. Who's been doing this this whole time?
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Oh it's yeah, the mcelroys and two other Australian guys
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: who I don't know their content.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: But also that's me. That's one of them. Yeah, uh,
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: all of them. You were all the macilroys the whole time.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: I definitely am aware of the maclroy's.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Deep below the streets of this city lies a hidden
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: research base currently playing home to a bunch of teens
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: on vacation who stumble across a skin covered book that
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: will lead to the death of many, but at least
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: the league gets a badass chainsaw in the sequel.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Okay, wait, okay, I've got nothing else. Do you have
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: one of the two? It's Evil Dead right because it's referencing.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Yes, Now, can you have a zombie movie with an
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: underground secret basse under a city where an evil disease
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: gets out?
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Oh? Oh, like Resident Evil Dead? I got It's two
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: zombie movies.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Zombie never said another one couldn't be Oh, you're always
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: gonna twist at the end walking me through that where
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: it's like he'll clearly put together the base under a
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: city with like people dying and we just watched this
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: an evil little connect. But I'm like, and Evil Dead's
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: well known enough you might know it.
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: What's funny is I was actually thinking of House of
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: the Dead, which which is very similar the the Ova
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: Bowl movie. It's teens partying on an island. You know,
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: turns out there's there's a research based underground and exactly
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: like you said, and I was like, huh, House of
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: the Evil Dead.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: I mean, I can reveal the score if you really
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: need me to. Paul Blart was worth twenty.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Actually it was a secret bonus one. Uh, Aaron does
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: taking away in this time is what we say. It
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: was a four point five to two good game. There
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: was a half point.
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: There that was that was pretty tough. I considered, I'm
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: surprised we got as many as we did. To be fair,
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: it started so rough.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I think I think another good game would have just
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: been like, here's a zombie the title?
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Is it real? That I make it up?
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Because I think anything I say like would have been
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: real because someone had made it.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's a pretty good marker of press play.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: Is good enough?
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Ha ha ha, it's fun pun enough. Mind, That's why
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: we do this. I don't care who wins or loses.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: I want to make stupid jokes for my friends. Captain
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Planet Art was another one of those. It was just like,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: I love.
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: This could have gone pure Nightmare of fuel and been like,
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: I'm going to mix up kids movies with a zombie movie.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: I mean before Time Zombie Land.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: Before Time is where that started. It was like, what
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: is the what are like innocent movies? I could funk with.
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: Here Babes and Toyland of the Dead.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Oh my god, I will thank you both. Oh.
