- 0:00When a man goes to fulfill his dream, what price is he willing
- 0:04to pay? Is it worth losing everything he
- 0:07loves? Is it worth awakening and old
- 0:10evil, a force that seems determined to attack the living
- 0:15and overtake the week? This story is a strange and
- 0:18unique tale of a place where a portal to hell is said to exist.
- 0:23This is the untold story of the demonic Bobby Mackey's music
- 0:28world. Located in Wilder, KY and This
- 0:31is not a story you want to experience with The Lights Off.
- 0:47Our story begins in Wilder, KY, where an abandoned Music Hall
- 0:52now sits off the banks of the Licking River.
- 0:55Country singer Bobby Mackey visits the property with a real
- 0:58estate agent in search of fulfilling A lifelong dream
- 1:02after hitting success in the music scene.
- 1:05Allowing him to leave his job at the railroad and pursue music
- 1:09full time, he's been on the road touring for nearly 12 years.
- 1:13He loves what he does, but he loves someone more.
- 1:16His wife Janet, who's pregnant with their first child, wanting
- 1:21to settle down and plant some roots, start a family.
- 1:24He thinks this could be the perfect opportunity.
- 1:27Bobby has always wanted to open a Music Hall, a nightclub suited
- 1:31for his particular style of country.
- 1:34And wandering the ballroom and gazing at the now empty bar of
- 1:38this former rock'n'roll venue, he can visualize exactly what
- 1:42he's been dreaming about for all these years.
- 1:45So after the tour, with a few moments of thought, he decides
- 1:49to purchase it. But little did he know he was
- 1:53purchasing so much more than he had bargained for.
- 1:56Later that day, Bobby would return with Janet to show her
- 1:59the place that they were now in the process of purchasing.
- 2:03From the moment she laid eyes on the property, Janet felt that
- 2:06there was something ominous about it, and energy about the
- 2:09place just felt off. After unlocking the front door
- 2:13and stepping inside for the first time, and upon surveying
- 2:17the inside with Bobby at her husband's recommendation, she
- 2:21went into the kitchen alone while he grabbed some items from
- 2:24their truck. As she walked around looking at
- 2:27the various equipment, she began to hear a muffled voice calling
- 2:31out from the sink. A gargled female voice, but no
- 2:36matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make out what it was
- 2:39trying to say. As she experienced this, it
- 2:42deeply disturbed her. Calling out for Bobby, she heard
- 2:46nothing in response. She then ran out the kitchen
- 2:50doors and into the ballroom where she could see Bobby
- 2:53starting to walk back in through the main doors.
- 2:56She asked who he was talking to and he said no one.
- 3:00That it was just him and her and the entire building saying that
- 3:04she heard voices. Bobby dismissed her, thinking
- 3:07that perhaps hormones were affecting her on account of the
- 3:10pregnancy. She again would let him know
- 3:13that she didn't have a good feeling about the building, and
- 3:16time would tell that she would be right.
- 3:19Although his wife disapproved and one of the two of them to
- 3:22sleep on the idea. Some more Bobby transfixed by
- 3:26the vision he had. For a literal dream come true
- 3:29Scenario in his own words, I couldn't be stopped.
- 3:33I had to have the place. Shortly after this conversation
- 3:37would take place, he would sign the paperwork, attain the
- 3:40banknote, and officially owned the property.
- 3:44Upon signing his name on the dotted line, Bobby never looks
- 3:48back. Although Janice didn't want him
- 3:50to, she still tries to be a supportive wife, although
- 3:54something frightens her about the place.
- 3:56She still assists Bobby with mild renovations as she can one
- 4:00day. As Bobby paints some walls and
- 4:03Janice sweeps around the bar, a stranger walks through the front
- 4:07doors of the Music Hall, introducing himself as Carl
- 4:11Lawson. He tells Bobby that he noticed
- 4:14that he was the new owner and that he had worked for the
- 4:17previous owners as a handyman, but had unfortunately been out
- 4:21of the job ever since the club had closed.
- 4:24Due to several particularly brutal murders taking place upon
- 4:27its grounds and later interviews, he would say this.
- 4:32Any bar or nightclub is going to have its fair share of fights.
- 4:35But the amount of violence that seemed to take place here, the
- 4:39type of crowded attracted seemed abnormal to me.
- 4:43The last year the club was previously open was the most
- 4:46brutal was 6 homicides taking place upon hearing Carl's story.
- 4:52Bobby quickly dismissed the idea of the nightclub becoming a
- 4:56hotspot for violence. He believed that the type of
- 4:59music was what could have caused people to be more violent, and
- 5:02since the club was going to play traditional country music and
- 5:06not anything rock related, he believed it would attract a very
- 5:10different crowd. After a brief inquiry about his
- 5:13skill set, Bobby decides to hire Carl as a fulltime caretaker and
- 5:18handyman for the nightclub in due time.
- 5:20As for their arrangement? He would live in the attic of
- 5:23the property. As the renovations ramped up to
- 5:26get the club ready for opening, Carl and Janice found themselves
- 5:30working on projects together throughout the building.
- 5:33They began to get along, and their friendship was like a big
- 5:36sister and a little brother. One afternoon, Janice asked Carl
- 5:41if he had ever experienced anything strange inside the
- 5:44club, and to her surprise, he told her that he believed that
- 5:48there was so much more than met the eye about this place.
- 5:51That there was some kind of force that made people violent
- 5:54here, and that the two of them should keep a lookout for one
- 5:58another. Following this brief
- 6:00conversation, Carl will go back to painting walls near the stage
- 6:04and Janice would resume washing dishes in the kitchen.
- 6:07As she toiled away, she began to hear an all too familiar sound,
- 6:12a muffled, gurgling kind of sound, similar to what she had
- 6:17heard the very first time that she had visited the property.
- 6:20To her absolute horror, she glanced down into the sink that
- 6:24the sound was emanating from and saw a thick blood like liquid
- 6:29guzzling up from the drain. It then began to fill up the
- 6:33sink. As she stepped backwards,
- 6:35preparing to call for Carl's help, she felt someone or
- 6:39something grabbed the back of her head and physically push her
- 6:43towards the sink for what seemed like an eternity.
- 6:46She braced herself with her hands against the sink.
- 6:50As she screamed for help, only to feel the pressure released as
- 6:54soon as Carl ran into the kitchen.
- 6:56As she fell backwards, she began to hysterically tell Carl about
- 7:01what had just happened. There's something had tried to
- 7:03hurt her and that the sink was full of blood.
- 7:07However, upon examining the sink, Carl didn't see anything
- 7:12and neither did Janet. Now it was completely clean.
- 7:17The two would continue to talk until Janet calmed down.
- 7:20They would also come to the conclusion that whatever
- 7:22presence that dwelled within the walls of this club was not
- 7:26friendly and it was not playing games.
- 7:29It had become violent. Once she had collected herself,
- 7:33Janet tracked Bobby down and confronted him about what had
- 7:36just happened to her, but he didn't believe her.
- 7:40Thinking his wife had gone crazy.
- 7:42He also called Karl over. And told him that he didn't want
- 7:45her filling her head with any more ideas about ghosts.
- 7:49Janet would retort that she in fact asked Carl if he had
- 7:52experienced anything and not the other way around, but
- 7:56nonetheless Bobby refused to believe either of them.
- 8:00He didn't believe in ghosts of the paranormal, and his only
- 8:03concern was getting this bar up and running so that he could
- 8:06make his money back. But in due time he would see
- 8:09that perhaps they were right. Within a week of these
- 8:13conversations taking place, another event would happen.
- 8:17A police officer by the name of Larry Hornsby was making his
- 8:20usual patrol rounds, which happened to go by the club.
- 8:24As he drove through the parking lot, he spotted a figure behind
- 8:27the window and the door of the club open.
- 8:30Thinking that someone had broke in, he quickly calls it in and
- 8:34asks for backup to investigate. Once another officer arrives,
- 8:38the pair cautiously make their way inside.
- 8:41With guns drawn and flashlights out as they scan the bar for the
- 8:45potential burglar, they spot nothing, and they don't hear
- 8:49anything either. If anything, it's eerily quiet.
- 8:54However, that was until music began blasting from behind the
- 8:58stage. What sounded like jazz was being
- 9:01played, and the sounds of people laughing and talking could be
- 9:05heard as they announced their presence.
- 9:08The officers made their way to where the music was coming from,
- 9:11but as soon as Officer Hornsby threw back the curtain, the
- 9:15music stopped. Unsure of what to make of the
- 9:18situation, the two officers looked at each other and became
- 9:22even more unnerved when the front door slammed shut.
- 9:26They raced through the club and out the front door, ready to
- 9:29pursue whoever they believed to be there, but upon a thorough
- 9:33search, they again would find no one.
- 9:37It's also important to know that there was little to know when
- 9:39this very night. Hornsby would later say that the
- 9:43two of us were stunned, but I couldn't put it in a report that
- 9:46we had encountered some kind of ghost.
- 9:49I would be the laughingstock, or they'd send me to a
- 9:52psychiatrist. So I Simply put that we had gone
- 9:55through the building but didn't find any burglars.
- 9:58But I know what I heard and I know what I saw, and I wasn't
- 10:02the only one there. Two nights following this
- 10:05happening, Officer Hornsby would find himself again outside of
- 10:08the nightclub, but this time for a very different reason.
- 10:12A woman had lost control of her vehicle and hit the light pole
- 10:16in the nightclubs parking lot, a crash that was fatal, not having
- 10:20anything to cover the body once it was removed from the vehicle.
- 10:24As the officer called it in, a woman tapped him on the shoulder
- 10:28and handed him a tablecloth. She then walked back into the
- 10:32nightclub. Once the scene was clear,
- 10:35accompanied with several officers, Hornsby knocked on the
- 10:38door in hopes of thanking the woman for her assistance.
- 10:42However, the doors were locked and there were no signs of life
- 10:45within the club. The following morning, the
- 10:48officer and his partner would make contact with Bobby Mackey
- 10:51to inform him of what had taken place.
- 10:54Upon telling him of the woman who came out of the club,
- 10:57brought them the tablecloth, and then went back inside thinking
- 11:00that she was a waitress. Bobby shocked them by telling
- 11:04them that he hadn't hired any staff yet besides Carl Lawson,
- 11:08and that the club would have been completely locked up and
- 11:11that he and his wife were sound asleep when this event would
- 11:13have occurred. Not sure of what to make of
- 11:16this. The officers simply thanked him
- 11:19and left. Bobby, despite the credibility
- 11:22of the officers, still didn't believe that there was anything
- 11:25supernatural about the nightclub.
- 11:28Later that afternoon, as Carl was changing light bulbs
- 11:31upstairs, he accidentally drops and breaks the last good one
- 11:35that he had. As he walks down the stairs to
- 11:38grab several more, he encounters Janet, who asked what that sound
- 11:42was. Upon telling her she sends him
- 11:45off while she decides to sweep up the glass at the top of the
- 11:48stairs. As she finishes sweeping the
- 11:51glass into a pile. As she turns to grab the
- 11:54dustpan, she is shoved from behind, panicked.
- 11:58She begins to hyperventilate because that was close to the
- 12:01edge of the stairs, and suddenly again, she's pushed, causing her
- 12:07to fall down the stairs. She's found by Carl, who then
- 12:11screams for Bobby. But before he gets to them,
- 12:14Janice tells Carl that something pushed her down those stairs.
- 12:18The three then load up as quickly as they can and rush to
- 12:21the hospital. The fall causes Janet to go into
- 12:25premature labor. And give birth to a baby girl
- 12:28weighing only £1.15 oz. The next several weeks are tense
- 12:33as the new parents monitor their baby, unsure if she's going to
- 12:37make it, but thankfully against the odds, she does.
- 12:42Approximately 3 weeks later, as his newly born daughter and wife
- 12:45are released from the hospital, Bobby prepares for the grand
- 12:49opening of what he's amply named Bobby Mackey's Music World,
- 12:53although he is present physically.
- 12:56He is numb. Emotionally.
- 12:57He feels as if the world is on his shoulders because this night
- 13:01could make or break the club's reputation.
- 13:04And coming off the heels of what had just taken place within his
- 13:07family, he was raw, to say the least.
- 13:10He overhears a customer talking about ghosts, and that almost
- 13:14sends him over the edge. He quickly finds Carl behind the
- 13:17bar and confronts him. He tells him that he will no
- 13:20longer have a job if he continues to tell customers
- 13:23about ghosts. And that he didn't want to hear
- 13:26anymore about it because he has to focus on this business for
- 13:29his family. That he didn't want to hear any
- 13:31more nonsense. That this hall was to be known
- 13:34for great country music and not for the ghost that didn't exist.
- 13:39Although he feels a presence, and although he and Janet have
- 13:42spoken several times about their experiences between a rock and a
- 13:47hard place, Carl decides to hold his tongue and agree with the
- 13:51man who's paying his salary. Several weeks after the grand
- 13:54opening, Carl would move into the attic above the club, which
- 13:58had since been converted into an apartment of sorts, another perk
- 14:02of being the handyman at Bobby Mackey's Music World.
- 14:06But as a result of this moving forward, he spends every night
- 14:09there alone. He felt as if he wasn't just a
- 14:13handyman, but a caretaker of sorts, as if something kept
- 14:17drawing him back to the property and unless he had a pressing
- 14:21matter to leave. stares in disbelief.
- 14:49The chairs then, are flung in all different directions.
- 14:53This terrifies Carl and he rushes up to his apartment,
- 14:57where he barricades himself in for the night.
- 15:00Over the next several weeks, he's in a state of denial about
- 15:03what he had seen. Trying to come to terms with his
- 15:06trauma, Carl takes to cleaning. One night he finds himself down
- 15:11in the storage room of the club, where he finds a loose board on
- 15:15the floor upon prying it out to then replace it.
- 15:19He finds a bundle of old looking cloth.
- 15:22He picks it up and unravels it in his hands.
- 15:26Inside the cloth is an old journal.
- 15:28As he reads it, he discovers that it belonged to a woman
- 15:32named Johanna, who had been a dancer at the club during the
- 15:351930s. Over the next several days, he
- 15:39reads to the entire journal and learns her story.
- 15:43She had fallen in love with a musician who her father
- 15:46despised. And her father had told her that
- 15:49he would kill this man before he'd let him marry her.
- 15:53One day, the man in which she loved suddenly wasn't around the
- 15:56club. He had gone missing, and she had
- 15:59just found out that she was pregnant.
- 16:02Thinking her father had something to do with this, she
- 16:05calculated, planned, and then poisoned her father and then
- 16:10herself. The final entry in the diary
- 16:13proclaimed that she would roam the halls of the club for all
- 16:16eternity, waiting for her lover to return to her.
- 16:20After finishing her journal while laying in his bed, Carl
- 16:24decided to finally get some sleep, but a storm was brewing
- 16:27outside, but also inside of the club.
- 16:31He wakes up choking and coughing, unable to catch his
- 16:35breath as lightning illuminates the room and Thunder rocks the
- 16:40club. With rain smacking the windows
- 16:42behind his head, Carl finally manages to catch his breath, but
- 16:46he's unable to go back to sleep. Several minutes later, the power
- 16:51goes out. Being the handyman that he is,
- 16:54he grabs a flashlight and makes his way towards the basement
- 16:58where the breaker box is located.
- 17:00As he tries to flip the breaker back, he's unsuccessful and
- 17:04drops his flashlight, which then rolls towards the center of the
- 17:08basement room. Not ever having spent much time
- 17:11down there, upon grabbing his flashlight, Carl stumbles upon a
- 17:15latch that he's never seen before.
- 17:17So as any curious mind would, he decides to open it up.
- 17:22With only the lightning Lighting up the room on occasion, along
- 17:25with his flashlight, he discovers what appears to be a
- 17:29well in the basement of Bobby Mackey's.
- 17:32Not sure of what to make of this, he closes the latch back
- 17:36up. He begins to make his way
- 17:38towards the breaker box once again, but several feet into
- 17:41making his way back, he's frozen in his tracks.
- 17:45Standing before him are the apparitions of two men, and
- 17:49although he can barely make out their faces, what he can see
- 17:53when the lightning strikes looks menacing.
- 17:57He steps back into the basement room.
- 17:59As he begins to hyperventilate with fear, he hears footsteps
- 18:03coming towards him, and then the sound.
- 18:05Of a woman screaming, coming from underneath his feet.
- 18:09He is standing directly over the well.
- 18:12He then feels a presence overtake him and he loses
- 18:16consciousness. He would open his eyes upon
- 18:19Daybreak and would rush back upstairs, returning several
- 18:23minutes later with a blessed vial of holy water that he had
- 18:26in his possession. He believed that if he poured
- 18:29the holy water down the well that it would help keep whatever
- 18:32evil that was down there. From coming back up there.
- 18:36So he does just that, and then returns back upstairs to a way
- 18:41to begin the work day with Bobby.
- 18:43However, his actions don't seem to work.
- 18:47Over the course of the next three weeks, Carl seems to
- 18:50undergo a radical change in personality.
- 18:53He began to seem darker, more angry and aggressive, which was
- 18:58a far cry from the timid and easygoing guy that Bobby and
- 19:02Janet had come to know. His moods were becoming
- 19:05unpredictable. Bobby would later say that it
- 19:08got to the point that I wasn't sure which Carl I was talking to
- 19:11on a daily basis. Carl also began to carry a
- 19:15crucifix with him and hopes of warding off evil that he now
- 19:19believed was coming from the well in the basement and
- 19:22attempting to take over his body.
- 19:24These strange interactions between Bobby, Carl, and Janet
- 19:28prompted multiple arguments between Bobby and Janet.
- 19:31With Janet believing that something spiritual was
- 19:34affecting Carl and Bobby believing that the two of them
- 19:37were nuts and that he had more important things like the
- 19:40business to worry about. Several weeks later, in an
- 19:44attempt to further expand his business's reach, Bobby would
- 19:47film a commercial for his establishment and would have his
- 19:50friend who was a journalist be present.
- 19:53Hopefully to get a good article circulating before too long.
- 19:56Upon speaking with his friend Doug Hensley about how things
- 20:00were going after the commercial shoot had finished, Bobby would
- 20:03confined in him. That business wise things were
- 20:05going pretty good, but that his wife and Carl Lawson couldn't
- 20:09stop talking about ghosts. Although he didn't believe in
- 20:13it, his friend was intrigued. Being a writer, he asked why
- 20:17Bobby had kept this a secret. And his response was that he
- 20:21didn't want the reputation of the Music Hall being tainted by
- 20:24rumors of ghosts, because a lot of people were scared of ghosts,
- 20:28and it could also affect the type of people who would come
- 20:31asking if he could speak with Carl and Janet.
- 20:34Bobby agreed. The following afternoon, Doug
- 20:37would interview Carl and Janet without Bobby being present to
- 20:41try and understand what they thought they were experiencing.
- 20:44Upon asking Carl his thoughts, Doug would be met with a
- 20:47straightforward answer. Carl would tell him that this
- 20:51place is evil. Over the course of the
- 20:54interview, the two would tell him their experiences, including
- 20:57Carl discovering Johanna's diary, the well in the basement,
- 21:01and the two men he saw that stormy night.
- 21:04And that he only continued to stay at the property as its
- 21:07caretaker, to protect Janet and Bobby from whatever malevolent
- 21:11force that infested its walls. And that this force despite his
- 21:16best efforts to leave. Always seemed to draw him back,
- 21:20being a skeptic but accepting the stories at face value, Doug
- 21:24concluded the interview by thanking them.
- 21:27The following day, he compiled his notes and went to the local
- 21:31library to research the history of the property, Believing that
- 21:34Carl Lawson was schizophrenic, he didn't think any of the
- 21:38information would check out, but as he began to dig, his mind
- 21:42would begin to change. Upon laying eyes on a 19th
- 21:46century article from the Kentucky Post, he was strangely
- 21:50intrigued. In 1897, two men, one by the
- 21:54name of Alonzo Walling and the other by the name of Scott
- 21:58Jackson, were hung for the murder of a woman named Pearl.
- 22:01Brian Brian's headless corpse was found near the site of an
- 22:06old slaughterhouse in Wilder. She had been a Sunday school
- 22:10teacher. And was 5 1/2 months pregnant at
- 22:13the time of her demise. Scott Jackson had been a former
- 22:17boyfriend of Pearls, and Alonzo Walling had been his roommate at
- 22:20dental school. It's alleged that the two
- 22:23attempted to remove the child, but failed and removed Pearl's
- 22:27head instead and an attempt to keep her from being identified.
- 22:32Rumors quickly circulated that the two were practicing
- 22:35Satanists and in a ritual sacrifice to Satan himself,
- 22:40killed Pearl. And her unborn child.
- 22:43Despite several searches around Kentucky and in the Ohio River,
- 22:47her head was never found. The only things that the killers
- 22:51would tell authorities was that it was in a deep, dark place and
- 22:56would never be seen again. As the two men were asked to
- 22:59give their final words before meeting their own fates at the
- 23:02Gallows, Alonzo Walling gave an eerie last couple of sentences.
- 23:07He said that. It would come back from hell and
- 23:10haunt everyone involved in his trial and the location where
- 23:13Pearl Bryant's head was. When searching for Pearl's head,
- 23:18bloodhounds led investigators to the old slaughterhouse, and
- 23:21although it was never proven, it was speculated that the two men
- 23:25had disposed of it by dropping it in the Old Well.
- 23:28Located in the basement as part of their ritual, the club now
- 23:33known as Bobby Mackey's Music World now rests on top of the
- 23:37foundation. That very same slaughterhouse
- 23:40Between the time it was a slaughterhouse and into the 20th
- 23:44century, before it was a nightclub, there were documented
- 23:48incidents involving law enforcement at the time catching
- 23:51various groups performing rituals in the basement.
- 23:54Around that well, they would typically perform blood
- 23:57sacrifices of small animals as offerings, believing it to be a
- 24:02portal of sorts due to how much blood had been spilled and
- 24:06soaked into the land. When the property had been a
- 24:09slaughterhouse, a main drain pipe would guide the blood from
- 24:12the floor, where would then drain off into the Licking
- 24:15River. Doug began to speculate that the
- 24:18two men Carl had seen that night when he discovered the well
- 24:22could have very well have been the spirits of Alonzo Walling
- 24:25and Scott Jackson because he believed the two, for whatever
- 24:29reason satanic or not, had disposed of her head in that
- 24:33well. And now they haunted the grounds
- 24:35of the club. Mystery also deepens through his
- 24:40research. Doug Hensley had gone from a
- 24:42hard skeptic to a convinced believer.
- 24:45He now thought that angry spirits inhabited the grounds of
- 24:49Bobby Mackey's music world, and through his research, he also
- 24:53noticed a disturbing pattern. Pearl Brian had been 5 1/2
- 24:57months pregnant at the time of her demise.
- 25:00According to her diary entries, Johanna right before her demise.
- 25:05Was 5 1/2 months pregnant and Janet had also been 5 1/2 months
- 25:10pregnant when she was pushed down the stairs.
- 25:13Once he had finished researching and putting the story together
- 25:16with that research, he asked to meet with Bobby, Janet, and Carl
- 25:21several weeks later. He would tell them about his
- 25:24convictions as well as this pattern.
- 25:26The pattern in particular, given what Janet had experienced,
- 25:30concerned him the most, which prompted him to ask Bobby.
- 25:34To allow them to do something about it.
- 25:36And although he doesn't personally believe in spirits,
- 25:39he's known Doug a long time and knows that he's a sensible
- 25:43person with a good head on his shoulders.
- 25:45So, going against his wishes, Bobby gives him the goahead to
- 25:49do what he thinks needs to be done.
- 25:51It takes several more weeks, but arrangements are made and in an
- 25:55effort to bring peace to whatever spirits that seem to be
- 25:58lurking within the nightclub, A psychic by the name of Patricia
- 26:02Michelle is brought in. She was given no prior knowledge
- 26:06of the history or story behind it.
- 26:09Upon her arrival she met Carl Lawson and he quickly began to
- 26:13say what he thought was happening within the club.
- 26:16She would ask him to please keep any information to himself so
- 26:20she wouldn't be influenced as she did her walkthrough.
- 26:23During her time roaming Bobby Mackey's, Patricia would sense
- 26:27and speak with a spirit. Upon asking her name, she was
- 26:31told that it was Johanna. When asking Johanna why she
- 26:35remained here, she was told that she knew that she was dead, but
- 26:39that she had chosen to stay in regards to what she believed to
- 26:43be taking place there. Patricia Michelle would later
- 26:46say this. I believe that there is spirits
- 26:49inhabiting Bobby Mackey's establishment, and I believe
- 26:52that they have chosen to stay here rather than move on and
- 26:55face what they believe will be a place where they will burn for
- 26:59all eternity upon surveying the basement.
- 27:02She asked to open up the latched board on the floor to reveal the
- 27:06well below. As she stared down into the
- 27:09well, she gasped and told everyone present that there was
- 27:14the head of a woman there. She then fell back and was
- 27:17overcome with a horrible bout of nausea.
- 27:21It was then coupled by cold sweats and the spins until she
- 27:24left the club several hours later.
- 27:27She would return once she was feeling able, bodied again to
- 27:31meet with everyone. And discuss how she felt about
- 27:34what she had uncovered. As she sat down at the table
- 27:37with Janet, Doug, and Carl and several of her own people, she
- 27:41noticed that Carl was trembling. She then saw two men standing
- 27:46behind him, and the feeling she got when she saw them was one of
- 27:50overwhelming dread and malice. She believed that these spirits
- 27:55had been oppressing Carl, and we're trying to wear him down to
- 27:58the point to where they could use his body.
- 28:02Hearing that Carl would soon become possessed, Patricia would
- 28:05recommend that he seek help from a minister to help break this
- 28:08attachment. After divulging the rest of her
- 28:11feelings to everyone, Patricia would then leave.
- 28:15Several days later, Doug would contact and bring in a
- 28:18Pentecostal minister to meet with Carl.
- 28:22Upon stepping foot in the club, the minister told Doug before
- 28:26meeting Carl that this was the most evil place he had ever
- 28:29stepped foot in. That he had been doing this for
- 28:32years and had never seen or felt anything like it.
- 28:36And if Carl was experiencing what he was experiencing, let
- 28:40alone living in a place like this, that he certainly was, or
- 28:44was on the cusp of being demonically possessed and needed
- 28:47help. Immediately upon meeting Carl
- 28:50for the first time, he knew what he had said to be true.
- 28:54He then followed Carl into the kitchen where the two sat at a
- 28:57table together for his own documentation.
- 29:00He placed a video camera to record their interaction, and
- 29:03then the minister began to pray over him.
- 29:06As he prayed aloud, Carl began to contort and grimace.
- 29:11Then, when asked his name, he spoke back to the preacher in a
- 29:14voice that was not his own. He responded with My name is
- 29:19Alonzo, and I prayed and oh God. The minister then commanded
- 29:24Alonzo to leave Carl's body. Carl then fell back off his
- 29:28chair and onto the floor. And began to twist and scream.
- 29:32The minister then called for the other men to come and surround
- 29:35Carl. Due to his violent outbursts, he
- 29:37didn't want to be injured, nor did he want Carl to injure
- 29:40himself. As the men restrained Carl, he
- 29:43began to scream at them in Latin, which the minister spoke.
- 29:47However, he then went from speaking Latin to speaking
- 29:50English backwards, saying Natas my eye, Natas my eye, or
- 29:57forwards. I am Satan.
- 29:59Which they wouldn't know until they watched the tape back
- 30:02later. After an hour of praying and
- 30:05demanding the Spirit leave Carl's body, Carl would scream
- 30:09and what sounded like two men screaming in unison for several
- 30:12seconds, and everyone present felt a cold rush of wind blow
- 30:17past them as Carl now lays silent, breathing heavily.
- 30:21He would finally come to several minutes later and he didn't
- 30:25recall what had happened. He would later say that when I
- 30:29woke up, everyone was looking at me and I was on the floor.
- 30:32I didn't know what happened. Several days following the
- 30:36exorcism, Carl would decide that it was time for him to move on.
- 30:40He no longer felt tethered to the property and said that he
- 30:43began to feel like himself again.
- 30:45He thanked the Mackey's for employing and befriending him,
- 30:49and then left in search of a new opportunity following Carl's
- 30:52departure. Janet Mackey did not want to be
- 30:55at the club, given everything that she had experienced, and so
- 30:59she wouldn't be. She would instead opt to stay at
- 31:01home with their now healthy baby girl.
- 31:04And before we get to the end of this perplexing paranormal
- 31:07story, I do have some additional history I'd like to share with
- 31:11you about Bobby Mackey's. So far, we're familiar with
- 31:15Pearl, Brian and the fact that the property was built on the
- 31:18foundation of an old slaughterhouse.
- 31:21And that in between the time of its demolishing and rebuilding
- 31:24as a club, it was a supposed hotbed for satanic cult
- 31:28activity. But upon further investigation,
- 31:31we would also prove Johanna's existence as well.
- 31:34Once it was rebuilt and resold, the club has an interesting
- 31:37story. It would reopen as a Roadhouse,
- 31:40and the Roadhouse would become an illicit bar and gambling den,
- 31:44known better by the name of Primrose.
- 31:47The Primrose was a Speakeasy ran by the mob.
- 31:50And as a result of its owners, it became a hotbed for violence.
- 31:54It would change ownership in the 1950s.
- 31:57It would also change its name to the Latin Quarter.
- 32:00Johanna was a dancer there, and she was also the daughter of the
- 32:04club's owner. She had fallen in love with a
- 32:07singer named Robert Randall and ended up pregnant with his
- 32:10child, having a strong dislike for Robert.
- 32:14Her father found this out and was enraged.
- 32:17He would have Robert killed as a result.
- 32:19Depressed by the death of Robert, Johanna then poisoned
- 32:23herself in the basement right above where the well was.
- 32:26But despite this research, her diary and her poisoning, her
- 32:30father could not be confirmed. The Latin Quarter would remain
- 32:34open until 1978, until a series of shootings and subsequential
- 32:38law enforcement pressure forced it to close.
- 32:41Its doors would then be purchased by Bobby Mackey
- 32:44several months later to this day.
- 32:47Bobby Mackey still says that he himself has never experienced
- 32:50any supernatural occurrences, but many people who have
- 32:53visited, however, have. A sign now hangs within Bobby
- 32:57Mackey's walls that serves as a warning to all patrons that the
- 33:02club cannot be held liable for anything that happens to them as
- 33:05a result of the ghosts. And despite still not being a
- 33:09believer given everything that he had seen, his mantra has long
- 33:13since been come for the ghosts. And stay for the music.
- 33:18But if Bobby Mackey's was haunted, could there have been a
- 33:21force, perhaps keeping him blind to it all, driving and keeping
- 33:25his hunger alive? And if Bobby Mackey's music
- 33:28world is indeed haunted, perhaps underneath its floorboards, deep
- 33:33in the bowels of the basement, inside of the old Well, a portal
- 33:37to hell still exists. Whatever evil that lingers there
- 33:42perhaps slithers out of it. Whenever it feels the proper
- 33:46opportunity to exploit the week, don't let it be you.
