- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:46created for a client that would. Quite.
- 0:50Often either use certain kind of crutches linguistically, so it'd
- 0:56be phrases like what's the word? And they might say that three or
- 1:01four times before the right word comes up.
- 1:04So it's similar to a stammer or a starter?
- 1:07But it would be. Different coping strategies and
- 1:11that would be a linguistic coping strategy.
- 1:15So what you're really going to hear in this hypnosis session is
- 1:18a few things. One, they felt very comfortable
- 1:21talking to certain people like their son.
- 1:24So using that as a resource state to anchor almost like feel
- 1:29like it's charging up a power Bank of resourcefulness that
- 1:32they can then deploy in a situation where they weren't
- 1:35feeling quite so confident and to use that coping strategy of.
- 1:40That phrase. What's the?
- 1:41Word as in a dialogue so they're pausing as far as the outside
- 1:47world can world can see using that phrase internally and then
- 1:51when the word comes then they start talking and that means
- 1:54that they're following almost an identical internal strategy but
- 1:58doing so in a way that gives them this confidence of a pause
- 2:04and those people that communicate and.
- 2:07Use pauses. Confidently come across as very
- 2:11confident communicators because most people feel awkward or
- 2:18uncomfortable about silence. They have to.
- 2:21Fill every space. But think of the.
- 2:25Great, let's say people that. Delivered speeches like Nelson
- 2:32Mandela, for example. Was a great, let's say orator,
- 2:38but he would use pauses. Quite often as part.
- 2:44Of his speeches. And lots of.
- 2:48Great. Presenters will use silence and.
- 2:51Pauses to. Immense effect.
- 2:55So rather than looking at filler words, a lot of people.
- 2:59Will use words like basically or.
- 3:03Thinking noises like umms and ours and I, I do it a bit and
- 3:06it's a natural way of talking, but you can have pauses and
- 3:11silences as a way of allowing you to find the right word
- 3:18before saying the right word. So there's an element of
- 3:22anchoring resource states, having internal strategies, but
- 3:26also using things like movement. And they found that it was
- 3:30easier for them to communicate while they were moving the body.
- 3:34But the problem is, is that when they were stationary and sitting
- 3:38down, they wouldn't feel that they.
- 3:40Could do that because they couldn't.
- 3:42Pace. But they can move their feet or
- 3:45their fingers or their hands, and that can be a way to release
- 3:48certain words. The final element of this,
- 3:52outside of future pacing, is this element of considering
- 3:55things. As low stakes.
- 3:58And here's the thing most. People feel.
- 4:01A lack of anxiety when they are in low stakes environment.
- 4:06So if it's if it feels like nothing, it doesn't really mean
- 4:09anything. Most people feel fairly
- 4:11confident when the stakes get raised.
- 4:15Then there is this feeling that the pressure gets on this
- 4:20element, this idea of choking in sports psychology of, you know,
- 4:27succumbing to the pressure. Is a feeling of it's a.
- 4:31High stakes environment. So there's an element here that
- 4:34also frames things as low stakes environments, that depending on
- 4:39how you really think about things, everything can be a low
- 4:42stakes environment. And when you frame it that way,
- 4:45you tend to feel more relaxed and more comfortable.
- 4:47So if you. Have in the past felt
- 4:50uncomfortable or lacking confidence when communicating.
- 4:54You might get some value from this, but please be aware it
- 4:56was. Created for a.
- 4:58Client with a very specific form of a stammer and therefore not
- 5:05all of these suggestions are going to make sense for you.
- 5:09If you like the idea of working with me directly, check out my
- 5:11website adamcox.co.uk and there's a link on there where
- 5:15you can book. The free. 30 minute consultation
- 5:17call on Zoom. You can also find that in the
- 5:20show notes. If you just click more details
- 5:22in the podcast, you should be able to see a link there.
- 5:25For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 5:28won't be disturbed. Relax.
- 5:30And. Enjoy the session.
- 5:55Take a deep breath in and as you breathe.
- 6:02In. Breathe in a resourceful feeling
- 6:06of calm and relaxation, and as you exhale, just feel a
- 6:15wonderful release, particularly around your.
- 6:17Eyelids. And just notice, but with your
- 6:22eyes closed, you're able to focus inward, to hear more of my
- 6:31words and to allow these words to be a catalyst for wonderful
- 6:40positive changes. So as you breathe in, scan your
- 6:49whole body from the top of your head to the tips of your toes,
- 6:54as you start to scan for tension, stresses and worries,
- 7:05so that when you exhale, just feel this tension melting away
- 7:12and leaving your body in that outward breath.
- 7:22That's it. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 7:27relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 7:37the even deeper you breathe. So really settled in to where
- 7:50you're sitting right now, feel the weight of your legs and
- 7:54arms, notice the rate of your breathing.
- 8:00And if you really concentrate, maybe you can even identify the
- 8:08feeling of a heartbeat, a pulse in just one of your fingers.
- 8:16The more you notice these physical sensations, like your
- 8:22chest rising and falling, the more it's possible for tension
- 8:28to be released. Perhaps tension around the jaw,
- 8:33the neck, or your shoulders. Just allow it to be released
- 8:40now. So feel the natural rhythm of
- 8:50your breathing, the way the air flows in and out effortlessly.
- 9:13Notice that you can recalibrate into that place of relaxation
- 9:23and comfort, so that with each breath you allow your body to
- 9:30relax just a little bit more, releasing any tension from your
- 9:35shoulders, your neck, your arms, all the way down to your toes.
- 9:48And as your body relaxes, so does your mind, as you realise
- 9:58that you can let thoughts drift by like clouds in the sky or
- 10:05leaves falling off a tree in autumn, knowing that there's no
- 10:11need to hold on to anything right now.
- 10:16Simply follow the sound of my voice as you begin to sink into
- 10:23a deeper, more peaceful state of relaxation that's in.
- 10:41I want you to imagine what it would feel like to be floating.
- 10:50Floating on water that is so dense it just supports your
- 10:54weight. I'm going to countdown from
- 11:0112:50 and with each descending number just feel that this water
- 11:08is supporting you, but that there are qualities in the water
- 11:13that melts away. Tension, perhaps minerals,
- 11:19perhaps the heat of the water 10 Just relaxing now, releasing
- 11:26that tension 9 Maybe there's a current floating, taking you
- 11:32somewhere, somewhere in your imagination. 8 feeling more of
- 11:40that release, and seven, noticing your inner thoughts
- 11:49quieten. Seven goes to six and your jaw
- 11:53completely relaxes. 5 The water cradling you, holding you,
- 12:03supporting you. 4 drifting deeper and deeper, relaxed. 3 So
- 12:13deeply relaxed. 2 and one imagine the water has carried
- 12:22you the somewhere where you feel completely at ease, safe and
- 12:30open to positive transformation. So now in this relaxed state, I
- 12:43want you to imagine a time when you are having a conversation
- 12:50with someone you felt relaxed with.
- 12:53Maybe your son or someone else. But picture their face, hear
- 13:00their voice, just notice how comfortable and at ease you
- 13:06feel. This is a low stakes
- 13:11conversation, no big deal. In this moment you are
- 13:17confident, relaxed and fully yourself and notice how words
- 13:24flow naturally and even when you pause to think.
- 13:32It feels completely normal, completely natural.
- 13:41If you make a mistake with a word or a thorn, you just
- 13:45restate it, rephrase it, find a different way of saying it, and
- 13:52you notice they are engaged and patient.
- 13:58And this feeling of ease is your natural state.
- 14:04It's the way you like to communicate.
- 14:10So at the point where you feel the words are flowing and you
- 14:15feel comfortable, just create an anchor, maybe squeeze a thumb
- 14:22and a finger together on your left hand.
- 14:25Do that. Now as you feel that, this
- 14:28feeling of feeling comfortable, you're now creating a trigger, A
- 14:34trigger you can charge up and a trigger you can deploy.
- 14:40We can think of this like a power bank, the kind of power
- 14:45bank you might use to charge your phone in an emergency.
- 14:53When you're feeling comfortable and confident communicating,
- 14:56squeeze your finger and feel like you're charging this power
- 15:00bank up. And when you're in a situation
- 15:04that feels outside of your comfort zone, use the same
- 15:11trigger. Start using up all of that
- 15:15resources you've been charging to feel resourceful and
- 15:21comfortable and confident, even if you're in a situation with a
- 15:27group of many people you don't know.
- 15:35So allow that ease and confidence to become an anchor
- 15:39within you, a resource that you can.
- 15:43Access. Anytime you speak to others, and
- 15:49maybe now you can imagine taking that same feeling and extending
- 15:56it, bridging it across to conversations with anyone, even
- 16:01groups of people or those that you've just met and feel how
- 16:10this confidence feels in your body.
- 16:14And maybe it's a warmth in your chest, a feeling of fluidity and
- 16:20flexibility, a connection, a steadiness in your breathing, or
- 16:27a calm clarity in your mind. And just allow that sensation to
- 16:35grow stronger, as if it's spreading through every part of
- 16:42you, making you feel more capable and grounded with each
- 16:51moment. And perhaps you could imagine
- 16:58yourself in a future situation where you're speaking to a group
- 17:04or someone new, and if a word doesn't immediately come to
- 17:11mind, give yourself permission to simply pause.
- 17:18And you own that pause, feeling calm and composed.
- 17:28And you might think to yourself, what's the word or what's it
- 17:32called in your inner dialogue, but outwardly you remain poised,
- 17:45feel comfortable using the crutch inwardly and feeling
- 17:53comfortable with the silence externally.
- 17:58And when the word comes, say it. Treat this as just one tool in
- 18:08the toolbox, and maybe variety is another tool.
- 18:16Occasionally you might change your words and say it's on the
- 18:21tip of my tongue. I'm drawing a blank here, It's
- 18:29escaping me right now. And you notice how natural and
- 18:35easy it feels to use these phrases.
- 18:40It's perfectly OK to pause, to think, to take your time.
- 18:51Sometimes you can pause and use the rhythm of hand gestures or a
- 18:59tapping foot to also release a blocked word.
- 19:05As you start to feel you have so many tools in your toolkit,
- 19:14silence will become your ally, a space where your thoughts can
- 19:21settle and the right words can surface.
- 19:27You trust your mind, define the words when it's ready.
- 19:33There's no rush, no pressure, because you know that most
- 19:39situations are just low stakes. That in the grand scheme of
- 19:47life, these conversations or even big speeches are just no
- 19:53big deal. And with this realization, any
- 20:01anticipatory fear seems to dissolve or just melt away.
- 20:09That you can feel calm, capable and at ease.
- 20:17Because you can make an evaluation that you'll handle it
- 20:20and you'll be fine. And even if something happens,
- 20:25you'll still be fine. In the big scheme of things, no
- 20:32big deal. So now just imagine a scene
- 20:39where you're speaking to a group of people.
- 20:45Perhaps it's a casual meeting, or maybe a big presentation.
- 20:51See yourself standing or sitting comfortably, and when you notice
- 20:57that you're looking comfortable, step into that version of you.
- 21:05Notice how you feel steady, grounded, and confident.
- 21:12Notice that you're speaking naturally, pausing when you need
- 21:18to, and if a word escapes you, you calmly say, I'm drawing a
- 21:28blank. Give me a moment and notice with
- 21:37these words, with these pauses, the audience becomes more
- 21:42engaged, more patient, even more responsive as you feel that
- 21:51you're in complete control, owning your pauses, owning your
- 21:57gestures, your rhythms, your movements, and the flow of your
- 22:03words. Small movements and gestures,
- 22:10taps, movements of your feet or your toes can be like a
- 22:19conductor of an orchestra. Just one movement is all it
- 22:25takes for the right word to suddenly arrive.
- 22:33And every time you speak to someone new or in a group, don't
- 22:39be surprised if you find yourself tapping into this same
- 22:43confidence and ease that you feel with your son.
- 22:49And maybe you just imagine that your son is in the same room
- 22:53with whoever you're talking to, a room full of strangers, and
- 22:58your son is there somewhere in the room.
- 23:04Becoming a bridge to feel resourceful when you normally
- 23:08wouldn't. Because this resource is always
- 23:12within you, ready to support you in any situation.
- 23:22Pauses become your friend, and you own them completely.
- 23:36Notice that the more you trust yourself to find the right
- 23:39words, the more true that becomes, knowing that
- 23:44communication is about connection, not perfection.
- 23:56If you're unconscious feels and has more options, but future
- 24:03events have become more manageable and more low stakes,
- 24:06let me know by nodding your head.
- 24:13That's it. And with that in mind, it's time
- 24:17to return to the present, taking all of these thoughts,
- 24:22strategies, and resources with you as very soon I count from
- 24:271:00 to 10:00 to awaken you. But first, take a deep breath
- 24:30in. Through your nose.
- 24:33And out. Through your nose.
- 24:36Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, start to calibrate
- 24:41into the here and now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 24:47awaken you starting to count 123 waking up. 456.
