- 0:00Speaker 1: What do you guys want to talk about? Let's do this.
- 0:01Speaker 1: Let's fucking roll, baby. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:03Speaker 2: What do you guys want to talk about, dude? How
- 0:05Speaker 2: sick are these shoes?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Oh, they're awesome.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mess with these a lot.
- 0:08Speaker 4: I love.
- 0:08Speaker 2: We're wearing the same shoes right now. I love these shoes.
- 0:10Speaker 1: That's a good point for the brand.
- 0:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:12Speaker 3: I want to give you guys a disclaimer. So on
- 0:14Speaker 3: the intro, Will and I were like, remember when we
- 0:17Speaker 3: did the Chicklets podcast? We all just got banged up
- 0:19Speaker 3: in Florida?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I was like, we've got to do it again. So
- 0:22Speaker 3: for everybody who thought we'd keep our promise.
- 0:24Speaker 4: We're hot.
- 0:24Speaker 3: We're hot.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Done, done, done.
- 0:27Speaker 2: You said, don't do that. Biz is like, I got
- 0:30Speaker 2: to eat too.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Bro, and when you went.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Outside to get ready for this podcast, you're like, hey,
- 0:35Speaker 3: let's just do this.
- 0:36Speaker 2: And then I delayed it for 35 minutes.
- 0:38Speaker 3: You just bring a full plate of food. I was
- 0:39Speaker 3: thinking to myself, my God, he's really living the dream
- 0:42Speaker 3: right now.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I mean, look at him. He's got the shower robe on. Oh,
- 0:45Speaker 2: you're always comfy, Biz. He dresses comfy.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Gotta be comfy.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Comfy and like marches by like a beat of his.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and can also, I say, where- Oh, are.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We on recording right now? Yeah, we're recording. Oh, we're fucking,
- 0:57Speaker 1: we already started the podcast. I was like, when are
- 1:00Speaker 1: we hitting the fucking play button?
- 1:02Speaker 2: I figured once he kind of mentioned the intro to last,
- 1:05Speaker 2: their episode with us, we're going to get high with them.
- 1:08Speaker 2: And then he said, we're high.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Jesus Christ.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Biz also has the ability to like, He can wear
- 1:13Speaker 2: anything and pull it off. There's outfits he can wear
- 1:15Speaker 2: that if I wore, people would be like, what the
- 1:17Speaker 2: fuck's this?
- 1:17Speaker 4: He's got the juice, bro.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Miz has got the juice.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got the flair.
- 1:22Speaker 1: This is very kind of you guys to start off
- 1:25Speaker 1: this episode with a nice tire pump.
- 1:27Speaker 4: You can wear whatever they want.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You might get me a kill on this. A residual,
- 1:32Speaker 1: as they say.
- 1:32Speaker 4: A residual. Hey, I'm going to be honest with you, brother.
- 1:35Speaker 3: We're like 98% men. Oh.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Oh, you think Chicklets is any lower than that?
- 1:40Speaker 3: What about the Puck Bunnies?
- 1:43Speaker 2: I don't think they're listening to podcasts from Biz and Witt.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so let me just, let me phrase this
- 1:50Speaker 4: real quick.
- 1:51Speaker 2: You're cute, you're cute.
- 1:52Speaker 3: When I was at Michigan, there was like, the Puck
- 1:54Speaker 3: Bunny thing was so real. There was just a group
- 1:56Speaker 3: of girls that were just all about the hockey boys.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Was that for y'all coming up?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't, in junior where I played, it wasn't crazy.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I think if you played for the London Knights and
- 2:07Speaker 1: you're living in London, Ontario, where Western University is, it
- 2:10Speaker 1: would have been crazy. Witt went to college, so maybe
- 2:13Speaker 1: it was a little different in college, but fuck Manning Jr.,
- 2:16Speaker 1: we had curfew and shit. We weren't even allowed to
- 2:18Speaker 1: go to bars. Especially when I was playing in Saginaw, Michigan,
- 2:22Speaker 1: drinking age was 21. I was 17, 18, and then
- 2:26Speaker 1: turned 19, and then I was off to Owen Sound. Buddy,
- 2:31Speaker 1: Owen Sound is not where you go to meet women.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'll just put it that way.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Owen Sound does not sound like a place.
- 2:35Speaker 2: There was obviously football girls, right?
- 2:38Speaker 3: Yeah, but I feel like there's just different... types like
- 2:43Speaker 3: how I feel.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Like football hockey games are better in sports hockey's better
- 2:47Speaker 2: in sport to witness and watch than football.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah if we're gonna change the subject to that I
- 2:52Speaker 3: agree You agree?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Well, football's made for TV, so it's like maybe these
- 2:55Speaker 2: girls enjoy the live action.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Bro, if hockey was more enjoyable to watch, then they'd
- 2:58Speaker 4: be crushing it in viewership.
- 3:00Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Hockey is more fun to watch in person. Football's better
- 3:04Speaker 3: to watch.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Football's built for TV.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I can't stand going to a live NFL game. That's
- 3:08Speaker 1: on me.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Hey, I went to a couple NFL games.
- 3:09Speaker 3: You can't stand going to a live NFL game?
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's brutal.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Hey, they're brutal, boys.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Brutal.
- 3:13Speaker 2: They're slow.
- 3:14Speaker 1: The product on TV is so much better, and that's
- 3:16Speaker 1: why it is what it is.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Okay, tell me this. There's 5 million timeouts. I get it.
- 3:20Speaker 2: All the TV dough. There's very rarely in the NFL
- 3:24Speaker 2: good games. They're all blowouts, it feels like. So at
- 3:28Speaker 2: least on TV, you're just clicking around. You're watching other games.
- 3:31Speaker 2: When you're at a game that there's 5 million timeouts
- 3:34Speaker 2: and it's a blowout, it's like this is not good.
- 3:36Speaker 3: It's brutal.
- 3:36Speaker 2: In my opinion.
- 3:37Speaker 3: It's not a terrible take.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It really isn't.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 3: But on TV, it's unbelievable.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Exactly. Exactly.
- 3:43Speaker 2: That's all that matters.
- 3:44Speaker 1: That's all that matters. Well, that's why it makes so
- 3:46Speaker 1: much money. Hockey does not transfer over on television nearly
- 3:50Speaker 1: as well as it is in person. It's like, it's
- 3:52Speaker 1: not even the same.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Is there like a reason for that, you think?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Well, they've tried to experiment with different camera angles and stuff.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And I just, it just doesn't work. You got to
- 4:00Speaker 1: keep the original kind of pan at a certain level.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And like in the NFL, you guys have those zip
- 4:06Speaker 1: lines above. So it's almost like you're in the huddle
- 4:09Speaker 1: and then it zips out. And then you're seeing, it's crazy,
- 4:11Speaker 1: the technology and how they're able to do it. Hockey,
- 4:14Speaker 1: they just, They haven't found a way. They've spent money.
- 4:17Speaker 1: They've had universities do trials.
- 4:20Speaker 4: And it's too.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Because of the speed of the game and the constant movement,
- 4:25Speaker 1: it's too much for the viewer. It almost, like, confuses
- 4:28Speaker 1: them to the point where they're like, I got a
- 4:29Speaker 1: fucking headache watching this. Like, even Witt, they started doing
- 4:33Speaker 1: the behind-the-net cam on the power play. And they would
- 4:37Speaker 1: go and they would kind of just rotate it. And
- 4:39Speaker 1: even people complained about that. I didn't mind that angle,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but it just... It's... I mean, hockey is going to
- 4:46Speaker 1: keep doing growing and being better in the States. I
- 4:48Speaker 1: just think that it doesn't transfer over quite the bite
- 4:51Speaker 1: that the NFL has.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Has the NHL ever experimented with like a, like a
- 4:55Speaker 3: sky cam where they have it like trail behind and
- 4:58Speaker 3: then have maybe like two cameras on both sides so
- 5:00Speaker 3: that it can follow the puck.
- 5:01Speaker 2: From the top? There is something like that now where
- 5:03Speaker 2: a camera rips along the, the above the glass. And
- 5:06Speaker 2: I think, I think it's, it's, it's pretty good actually.
- 5:09Speaker 2: But the biggest thing would be NFL is so like,
- 5:14Speaker 2: The hits and how fast these guys are, it's incredible.
- 5:17Speaker 2: And the cameras right down in the field, you see
- 5:20Speaker 2: the replays. They got the full speed replays where you
- 5:23Speaker 2: hear the crashes. Hockey, because of the boards on TV,
- 5:27Speaker 2: you don't see how fast they're going. But that's why
- 5:30Speaker 2: when people go sit front row, like my father-in-law got
- 5:33Speaker 2: tickets now behind the Bruins net, and he's like, I
- 5:35Speaker 2: cannot believe the speed and the size of these guys.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But on TV, it doesn't show. So that's why in person,
- 5:41Speaker 2: I mean... I think the boards aspect is the biggest thing.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You can't get right there. Like those cameras on the field.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Right. But, but it's, but hockey's in a great spot,
- 5:51Speaker 2: but I was going to say about football. I saw today,
- 5:53Speaker 2: I think Dante Barstow did a blog. About the product
- 5:57Speaker 2: being bad, but how the numbers, they're skyrocketing still. The NFL.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It is.
- 6:01Speaker 4: And the viewership.
- 6:02Speaker 2: It's crazy, man.
- 6:03Speaker 3: It's become like a show. The TV is like an event.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Hockey is just pure when you watch it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: 82 games.
- 6:09Speaker 3: But hockey on games, you don't really get a full
- 6:11Speaker 3: understanding of how fast everyone's going.
- 6:13Speaker 1: No.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You just kind of see, like you said, the lens
- 6:15Speaker 3: where it goes back and forth. Football, I feel like
- 6:18Speaker 3: when you watch it on TV, it looks so much
- 6:20Speaker 3: faster than when you view it in person. I was
- 6:22Speaker 3: at the Titans game this past weekend. And I was
- 6:24Speaker 3: sitting up in this suite looking down and it was
- 6:26Speaker 3: like everyone's trying to just– it didn't seem like crazy
- 6:29Speaker 3: fast to me.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Well, yeah. And if you're sitting up high in an
- 6:32Speaker 2: NHL arena, it's definitely similar to that where you can't
- 6:35Speaker 2: tell like the physicality and the speed. But you're still
- 6:39Speaker 2: seeing plays develop that you can't on TV watching hockey.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And it's just in person the best sport for me.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I mean– I actually prefer watching it as a former player.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I like watching it from up top because I like
- 6:54Speaker 1: seeing it all develop. I don't need to be on
- 6:56Speaker 1: the glass from a viewership perspective. I kind of like
- 6:59Speaker 1: being up top, no?
- 7:00Speaker 2: I love it. And Will, would you say if you
- 7:03Speaker 2: sat up high in an NFL stadium where the coordinators are,
- 7:06Speaker 2: would you see plays develop? Would you realize right away
- 7:08Speaker 2: when a guy missed an assignment or something? You know
- 7:10Speaker 2: what I mean? Knowing the game, is it like hockey
- 7:12Speaker 2: where you can see how a breakaway happens.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Ahead of time? Yeah, but we're still pretty good. Even
- 7:17Speaker 4: if you're on the front row, I still feel like
- 7:18Speaker 4: you're a good distance away where you're kind of seeing
- 7:20Speaker 4: the entire formation.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:22Speaker 4: So I don't think like a whole lot. I guess
- 7:23Speaker 4: you just get a better vantage point on the back.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Well, I disagree with that. When we went and did
- 7:28Speaker 3: the spring game at ASU, it was so hard for
- 7:30Speaker 3: me to tell who was who and what was going on.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I couldn't see the far side of the field, but
- 7:34Speaker 3: when I was up there at that game this weekend,
- 7:36Speaker 3: You see the formations. You see where protection breaks down.
- 7:38Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I mean, at that point, we're on the field. You
- 7:40Speaker 3: see people hitting gaps and stuff like that. Like, oh,
- 7:41Speaker 3: you could see, oh, the running back missed a gap there.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Right, right, right.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Or this guy, his route was a little different. You
- 7:46Speaker 2: see it happen right before it happens almost.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Like up top, you see it in hockey at least.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You see a puck get rimmed around. You see two
- 7:52Speaker 2: guys take off. And you're like, dude, if this puck
- 7:54Speaker 2: gets by this defense and it's pinched and these guys
- 7:56Speaker 2: are gone because you've already seen him from up top go.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm saying kind of? You see
- 8:00Speaker 2: it develop.
- 8:01Speaker 3: What you're saying to me is interesting, but like being
- 8:03Speaker 3: a casual fan of hockey.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You don't get it.
- 8:04Speaker 3: The development of plays to me, it looks like just
- 8:06Speaker 3: five guys holding a zone the entire time. Yeah, I
- 8:08Speaker 3: have absolutely zero clue. And you're kind of just watching
- 8:10Speaker 3: guys kind of work together. You really see it in
- 8:12Speaker 3: power play.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Power play, they're snapping.
- 8:14Speaker 3: With a four, how they kind of rotate. I think
- 8:16Speaker 3: that's fascinating. But when it's five on five, to me,
- 8:19Speaker 3: it just seems like they're duking out. The two defensemen
- 8:22Speaker 3: are just kind of chilling back there. Kind of, hey,
- 8:23Speaker 3: don't let it get past the blue line. And that's
- 8:25Speaker 3: really it. But do you guys actually have plays? Like
- 8:28Speaker 3: coaches yelling, hey, run, twister.
- 8:30Speaker 2: There's face-off plays. But there's like, when you're on the ice,
- 8:33Speaker 2: you're just like talking to your line mates and you're
- 8:35Speaker 2: talking on the bench, like go here next time. And
- 8:37Speaker 2: you're all like, it's like knowing what you're going to
- 8:39Speaker 2: do before you do it. There's not like plays live.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I think you kind of like there's systems in a
- 8:44Speaker 1: sense of like how you play in structure and how
- 8:46Speaker 1: you pressure teams in the neutral zone. I would say
- 8:49Speaker 1: it's evolved to where it's, it's like, it's very, it's
- 8:52Speaker 1: a lot more in depth now than it was like
- 8:54Speaker 1: 15 years ago, just because of the amount of video,
- 8:57Speaker 1: the amount of coaches, like talk talks about like their neutral,
- 9:00Speaker 1: neutral zone for check and little things like that. Like, um,
- 9:03Speaker 1: a power play zone entry where you might have a
- 9:06Speaker 1: couple different options of how you like, like, um, you
- 9:09Speaker 1: go up ice, get control. Yeah. So there, yeah, there,
- 9:12Speaker 1: there's not as much as you think because it's such
- 9:15Speaker 1: a reactionary sport, but in controlled settings, like for instance,
- 9:18Speaker 1: a controlled breakout, like you said, off of a face off.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So there's certain situations of the game you can control
- 9:24Speaker 1: and you gotta like practice those in training camp like
- 9:27Speaker 1: you would run plays in the NFL.
- 9:29Speaker 3: What's a control breakout mean? Because I'm thinking to myself like.
- 9:32Speaker 2: So your defenseman's behind the net and the center swings
- 9:36Speaker 2: down and he either picks up the puck or he goes.
- 9:38Speaker 2: The other team has kind of sat back. Once you
- 9:40Speaker 2: get control behind the net, they're just going to be like,
- 9:42Speaker 2: all right, we have a set four check. We know
- 9:44Speaker 2: how to combat what they're doing.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so if the center swings, the defensive side of
- 9:49Speaker 1: the coach, like on the defensive team, he'll say swing
- 9:53Speaker 1: with that centerman. Some of them might say like all
- 9:56Speaker 1: of you five guys stand in the neutral zone and
- 9:59Speaker 1: just kind of let them have it up there and
- 10:00Speaker 1: then try to come up the ice. So it's, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 1: it's constantly evolving. And then like game to game, you're
- 10:07Speaker 1: getting a video breakdown of their power play, their penalty kill,
- 10:10Speaker 1: and these types of situations, what they might do off face-off,
- 10:13Speaker 1: face-off plays, their control breakout, their zone entry on a
- 10:17Speaker 1: power play. So you kind of get that, five to
- 10:20Speaker 1: eight minutes of video in the morning of the day
- 10:23Speaker 1: of a game. But the thing that's hard about hockey
- 10:25Speaker 1: is you're playing, you know, 31 other teams. So you
- 10:29Speaker 1: have different systems. So you have to have a team
- 10:31Speaker 1: who kind of is easily able to adapt, like has
- 10:34Speaker 1: hockey smarts and saying, okay, today we're not doing the
- 10:37Speaker 1: same four check we were last night on the control breakout.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Cause maybe that centerman who swung for the offensive team
- 10:43Speaker 1: went behind the net, grabbed the puck and it's fucking
- 10:45Speaker 1: Capri soft where he can actually go end to end
- 10:48Speaker 1: by himself. So it is just, Like, coaching is so
- 10:51Speaker 1: fucking important nowadays just because of how good the league's
- 10:54Speaker 1: gotten and all these mighty details that you have to
- 10:58Speaker 1: teach your players and then keep them reminded of as
- 11:01Speaker 1: it goes.
- 11:01Speaker 2: In football, do you, based team to team, change your defense?
- 11:05Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Depending on the system that the offense is running or
- 11:08Speaker 4: defense is running.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So, would there be a game... Obviously, it's different for
- 11:11Speaker 2: offensive linemen. As a defensive player, would there be a
- 11:14Speaker 2: game you're playing a certain defense where you're not, like,
- 11:17Speaker 2: in because it's that defense?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:19Speaker 4: You don't play that one. Right. So you have like
- 11:22Speaker 4: bigger personnel and lighter personnel to where it's like you're
- 11:24Speaker 4: in 21 personnel, which is two running backs and one
- 11:27Speaker 4: tight end or 12 personnel or 13 personnel. Like those
- 11:30Speaker 4: are bigger body personnels to where they're running at least
- 11:33Speaker 4: double tight end. So you would play more of a
- 11:35Speaker 4: base package too, that have bigger bodies in there. Three,
- 11:38Speaker 4: four linebackers. There's a lot of teams now just playing
- 11:41Speaker 4: with two linebackers, but then when it gets lighter in
- 11:43Speaker 4: the box, so you see what the chiefs, when they
- 11:45Speaker 4: spread it out, there are three wide. So 13 personnel, 11,
- 11:49Speaker 4: or my fault, not 13, 11 personnel, 10 personnel, when
- 11:53Speaker 4: they're breaking out with a lot more receivers, then you
- 11:55Speaker 4: need more.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Speed on the field.
- 11:57Speaker 4: So you swap out a backer with a nickel, you
- 11:59Speaker 4: swap out a backer with a dime.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It's like chess, it's live chess.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I view football as like, there's always
- 12:05Speaker 3: a break, and then it's like, all right, someone won
- 12:08Speaker 3: a battle here. Now what are we going to put
- 12:10Speaker 3: on the field to best combat each other?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 12:13Speaker 4: And everything's situational. So like any given week, you're starting
- 12:17Speaker 4: off and you're breaking down the running game, like first
- 12:19Speaker 4: and 10, their play action off the run game, their
- 12:22Speaker 4: first and 10 or second and 10 passes. Then as
- 12:25Speaker 4: you get later in the week, you're breaking down third
- 12:27Speaker 4: down and not just third down, but third down from
- 12:29Speaker 4: what do they do from at third and one. Does
- 12:32Speaker 4: this team combine one to three? Will they call any play?
- 12:35Speaker 4: Will they just have a couple go-to plays in third
- 12:37Speaker 4: and one? So it's third and one. third and two
- 12:39Speaker 4: to three, third and four to seven, and third and
- 12:43Speaker 4: eight plus.
- 12:43Speaker 3: They're all different situations.
- 12:46Speaker 1: How much time are you consuming of video setting up
- 12:48Speaker 1: for that next week?
- 12:49Speaker 3: Way more than you are on the field. Like hours
- 12:52Speaker 3: and hours. On Wednesday, if you go in the building,
- 12:55Speaker 3: your first meeting's at 7 a.m., you're watching film either
- 13:00Speaker 3: with your offense as a full team or in your
- 13:04Speaker 3: individual groups, your line or linebackers. And then you go
- 13:07Speaker 3: to practice.
- 13:08Speaker 2: How long would you watch video at 7 a.m.? Till 11. So, dude,
- 13:11Speaker 2: how do you keep guys from not falling asleep?
- 13:14Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, you deal with that all the time. But
- 13:15Speaker 3: that's like, that's rookie shit.
- 13:18Speaker 2: That's unprofessional.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Yeah, the first time you kind of start to doze off. Hey,
- 13:22Speaker 3: stand up if you're having a problem. Have a coffee
- 13:23Speaker 3: or whatever. That's the grind of the season. It's not
- 13:26Speaker 3: necessarily the practices or the games. That does wear on
- 13:29Speaker 3: you eventually. But it's the constant every day. And the
- 13:33Speaker 3: redundancy of Wednesday is the first install.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So you're doing.
- 13:37Speaker 3: your base packages, the meat and potatoes of what we're
- 13:39Speaker 3: going to do in this game. And then the next day,
- 13:41Speaker 3: you focus more on third down and everything like that.
- 13:44Speaker 3: In red zone. Yeah, red zone. And then Friday, you
- 13:47Speaker 3: go through your two-minute calls, which is usually numbered one
- 13:50Speaker 3: through ten. And one will tell you everything. Odd numbers
- 13:53Speaker 3: are usually sliding to the right. Even numbers are sliding
- 13:56Speaker 3: to the left.
- 13:56Speaker 4: You've got to memorize.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Way more than odd.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Holy fuck.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Do you guys take Adderall? No. But, dude, it's so
- 14:03Speaker 3: easy because there's probably– 20 real football players, 20 football
- 14:10Speaker 3: players in football. And I could be totally off with
- 14:12Speaker 3: the number.
- 14:13Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 14:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I just think it's funny to hear.
- 14:17Speaker 4: There's probably 20 total.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm saying if you looked at all your-
- 14:22Speaker 3: But there's all these different variations of those 20 players.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Base runs and base pass concepts, there's only a finite amount.
- 14:28Speaker 3: So let's just say it's 20. But on top of that,
- 14:31Speaker 3: there's like 50 different wrinkles to each play. how you're
- 14:34Speaker 3: going to motion, where guys line up. And then you're
- 14:37Speaker 3: obviously playing the other side too. How do they play offense?
- 14:39Speaker 3: Are they penetrators? Are they two gappers? So now you're
- 14:42Speaker 3: thinking how you're going to do your combination blocks differently.
- 14:44Speaker 3: These corners play press. Like we were talking earlier with blitzes.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Like you're like, oh, if you're a left tackle and
- 14:49Speaker 3: you see a guy coming off the edge, what do
- 14:51Speaker 3: you do? And it's like, well, is it my assignment
- 14:52Speaker 3: to get that guy or is it my assignment to
- 14:54Speaker 3: take this guy I have on me? And if it is,
- 14:56Speaker 3: I usually would take the team, like all the stuff
- 14:59Speaker 3: when we're as a team together, they would kind of
- 15:02Speaker 3: give me their tendencies and game plans as a whole.
- 15:04Speaker 3: And then on my own time when I get home,
- 15:05Speaker 3: I would evaluate the individual player that most of my
- 15:07Speaker 3: matchup is at. Which I'm sure if you're playing the
- 15:10Speaker 3: Saints and you're like, God forbid, it's second down, I
- 15:13Speaker 3: have to go out with Alvin Kamara. You're watching every
- 15:16Speaker 3: option Alvin Kamara has.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Yeah, from your guys' standpoint, you're realizing like, all right,
- 15:20Speaker 4: do they play more of a two-shell defense or are
- 15:22Speaker 4: they a big heavy cover three defense this week? What
- 15:25Speaker 4: do they do when you got them in a situation
- 15:27Speaker 4: and we motion them out to empty, how do they
- 15:29Speaker 4: adjust an empty? Does the linebacker, like I prefer check
- 15:32Speaker 4: rat to stay in the box. Does the linebacker stay
- 15:36Speaker 4: in the box?
- 15:39Speaker 3: When you guys are saying center's coming, four check, you
- 15:42Speaker 3: guys stay in the gray zone and they come on
- 15:44Speaker 3: up or whatever.
- 15:44Speaker 2: The gray zone.
- 15:47Speaker 1: How many of your listeners, I'm calling it the gray
- 15:49Speaker 1: zone forever now.
- 15:53Speaker 3: What is it?
- 15:54Speaker 1: The neutral zone.
- 15:55Speaker 2: It's a neutral color.
- 15:57Speaker 3: No gray area turnovers, right?
- 15:59Speaker 1: How many of your listeners appreciate you guys getting the
- 16:02Speaker 1: weeds on the football talk? Or do you think not
- 16:05Speaker 1: a lot of them understand it?
- 16:06Speaker 3: That's the same question.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I asked him the same thing two hours ago.
- 16:11Speaker 1: No shit.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Hey, great minds, buddy.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Great minds. Love you, buddy.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Hey, you were legit there when Whit asked.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I was about to explain.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Sometimes we start getting in the weeds and we'll get tweets.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I wonder if hockey people like you.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, they're like, we don't give a fuck. Tell us
- 16:26Speaker 1: a kill star. I'm sure people in the comments will
- 16:31Speaker 1: leave if they appreciate the football talk.
- 16:33Speaker 3: We kind of got in the weeds a little bit,
- 16:34Speaker 3: even in the intro. But let me ask you this, like, playoffs.
- 16:38Speaker 3: If you're playing a team possibly seven times, how redundant
- 16:41Speaker 3: does that get?
- 16:42Speaker 2: Not really, because the playoffs are so, like, incredible to
- 16:45Speaker 2: be a part of. You're so fired up for every
- 16:47Speaker 2: game and excited to go over the game tape. And
- 16:50Speaker 2: if you win, let's keep this thing going. If you lose, like,
- 16:53Speaker 2: we can only lose three more times. So, like, Yeah, January,
- 16:56Speaker 2: you're going through film. You're playing Jersey. You're watching their
- 16:59Speaker 2: power play and their penalty kill. And, yeah, you got
- 17:01Speaker 2: another game. It's game 56. But when you get to
- 17:04Speaker 2: April and May and June, hopefully. you're so dialed in
- 17:07Speaker 2: and excited and like, cannot wait to get to the
- 17:10Speaker 2: week every day.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Do you ever think, I don't like the redundancy between
- 17:14Speaker 1: that time.
- 17:15Speaker 2: There's too many games, too many games, 82 games before playoffs.
- 17:19Speaker 1: If they put it down to 70, I think it
- 17:21Speaker 1: would be the perfect amount because you would get a
- 17:23Speaker 1: little bit more rest in between games. So there'll be fresher.
- 17:26Speaker 1: The product will be better and every game will mean more.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And I think a little bit less out of conference, uh,
- 17:33Speaker 1: like create that rivalry within the conference of like where
- 17:37Speaker 1: you're clawing to get out rather than, I just think
- 17:40Speaker 1: 82 is way too much.
- 17:41Speaker 4: This is off topic.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I just have to say this quick. It's not really
- 17:44Speaker 2: off topic, but this is why I originally, the premier
- 17:48Speaker 2: league soccer in England, I was originally like, what the fuck?
- 17:51Speaker 2: There's no playoffs, but the regular season champ is the
- 17:54Speaker 2: champ and the bottom three teams get relegated. That would
- 17:56Speaker 2: obviously never happen, but it's actually sick how they do it.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Every game matters.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Every game matters so much. There's 38 of them. Right.
- 18:04Speaker 3: What if one team is so far in the league,
- 18:07Speaker 3: like last five games of the season, they're like, oh,
- 18:09Speaker 3: we're the champs.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Well, I was going to say, too, like what's interesting
- 18:12Speaker 4: with like the team sports that go deep in the
- 18:16Speaker 4: playoffs and have like seven rounds, like all your guys'–
- 18:18Speaker 4: like the NBA, you think about it, they have a
- 18:21Speaker 4: lot of games. The MLB has a lot of games
- 18:23Speaker 4: in the regular season. Obviously, playoff basketball, playoff baseball, playoff hockey,
- 18:28Speaker 4: like it all seems to get really heightened around your
- 18:30Speaker 4: sport then, to where as with football, I feel like
- 18:32Speaker 4: since you only play 17 games. It's so meaningful. Monday
- 18:35Speaker 4: night football, Thursday night. That's why it matters so much.
- 18:37Speaker 3: It all seems like a spectacle.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Every game matters. And I saw a stat that I
- 18:42Speaker 2: think one of the last 44 teams or something that
- 18:45Speaker 2: started 0-2 made the playoffs. So you get off to
- 18:48Speaker 2: a slow start. I got a current football player question
- 18:51Speaker 2: for you. Can I go into that?
- 18:52Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Why is it Did they let Derrick Henry go from
- 18:57Speaker 2: your Titans? That's such a funny question. Like, as a
- 19:00Speaker 2: fringe football fan, I saw him the other day against Dallas.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah, went off.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm like, this guy, Tennessee, like, didn't play him at
- 19:07Speaker 2: the end of the year that much and then didn't
- 19:09Speaker 2: sign him?
- 19:10Speaker 1: What the fuck?
- 19:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I love that question, bro.
- 19:13Speaker 2: You'll ask your answer?
- 19:13Speaker 3: No, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, here's my, if I'm putting
- 19:16Speaker 3: myself in the GM's brain... Of the Tennessee Titans.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Do you have inside info on this?
- 19:20Speaker 3: No, I don't. But this would be my assumption. There
- 19:23Speaker 3: is only one back in the last 20 years that
- 19:25Speaker 3: has outplayed their second contract and their first contract. That's
- 19:28Speaker 3: Derrick Henry. So if you're thinking of your ROI from
- 19:31Speaker 3: a back standpoint, at some point it's got to end.
- 19:33Speaker 3: The market's gone so low. So you're essentially, my thought
- 19:36Speaker 3: is this, like, Derrick Henry was the Titans.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Yep.
- 19:39Speaker 3: And you know your ceiling was, at one point, maybe
- 19:42Speaker 3: a Super Bowl when you had A.J. Brown, Tannehill was
- 19:44Speaker 3: firing all cylinders, you had guys actually killing it. But
- 19:48Speaker 3: then A.J. was gone, it was really more one-dimensional Derek,
- 19:51Speaker 3: and you saw that your ceiling was first, second round
- 19:54Speaker 3: of the playoffs. How do you get over that hump?
- 19:56Speaker 3: And their thought is if we bring in more speed
- 19:59Speaker 3: everywhere until we're not so predictable, we cut ties with
- 20:02Speaker 3: Derek because we know that eventually that decline is going
- 20:05Speaker 3: to happen. It's just inevitable. We get rid of him, we...
- 20:08Speaker 3: We get our best ROI out of it and then
- 20:10Speaker 3: we have like a team that can like throw it
- 20:12Speaker 3: all over the yard. Not working right now.
- 20:14Speaker 2: The risk being that it doesn't work.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Why not just sign him for like.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Two years then? What'd he get? What'd he get?
- 20:18Speaker 3: Well, I think he got two years 16.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so they couldn't.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Get two years.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Well, that's why what they do two years.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You send them a client so if he... he drops
- 20:25Speaker 1: off in year one. It's like, fuck, I think he
- 20:27Speaker 1: deserves a swan song. I mean, his last year, if
- 20:30Speaker 1: he was played half the games.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I think fans would still love him. I would have
- 20:33Speaker 3: loved for Derek to stay. I just think people were-
- 20:35Speaker 3: I think everybody would have- For nine years that I
- 20:38Speaker 3: was on the Titans, it was, besides the first two years,
- 20:41Speaker 3: essentially the same football team every year.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Give it to Derek.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Yeah, give it to Derek. No, but we were a
- 20:46Speaker 3: tough football team, didn't make a whole lot of mistakes,
- 20:48Speaker 3: and we tried to get in third in manageables and
- 20:50Speaker 3: get out of there. If we got behind the sticks,
- 20:51Speaker 3: it would be over. And so we were just a
- 20:53Speaker 3: team that would just grind you out for four quarters.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I feel like football is the most cutthroat of them all.
- 20:58Speaker 1: And like the loyalty is next to none. I feel
- 21:01Speaker 1: like there's a little bit more or a lot more
- 21:03Speaker 1: in hockey. And you can sign these.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Eight-year deals, which if you get bought out, you get.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Two-thirds of the deal.
- 21:08Speaker 4: James Neal hasn't been in the league for like half
- 21:09Speaker 4: a decade now.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He's still getting paid.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:19Speaker 1: So what they do is let's say he got bought
- 21:21Speaker 1: out and he had three years left on his deal
- 21:23Speaker 1: and he was making 6 million bucks. You would get
- 21:26Speaker 1: two thirds of that. So 4 million over per, per year.
- 21:30Speaker 1: So three years, 12 million over, uh, six years. So
- 21:34Speaker 1: twice the length of how many years you had left.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So they kind of space it out. So. If he
- 21:39Speaker 1: had three years left, he'd get paid for six years.
- 21:42Speaker 1: But two-thirds of.
- 21:43Speaker 4: What- That kind of takes care of the guy afterwards.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Right, so you can't spend it stupidly.
- 21:46Speaker 4: And you get bought out.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Some guys get bought out, signed with a new team
- 21:51Speaker 2: because they're bought out not because they're not NHLers anymore,
- 21:53Speaker 2: but it's just like- Hard cap. Hard cap. We got
- 21:55Speaker 2: to get rid of money. This guy's still solid, but
- 21:58Speaker 2: like you said with Derrick Henry, he's getting older. You
- 22:01Speaker 2: get bought out, get two-thirds, you sign with another team,
- 22:03Speaker 2: you end up making more than you would have.
- 22:05Speaker 1: You could double dip.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a double dip in the league too, but
- 22:07Speaker 3: it's a one-year thing.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Your boy got the double dip.
- 22:10Speaker 3: What's that?
- 22:10Speaker 4: I got a double dip.
- 22:11Speaker 3: You did. You got a small dip.
- 22:13Speaker 4: A small dip.
- 22:13Speaker 3: You got a small dip right from the bottom.
- 22:14Speaker 2: You went in the kiddie pool.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Yeah, absolute shallow end.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Hey, but a dip nonetheless.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 22:19Speaker 3: But like, hey, Will, because my brain is not firing
- 22:21Speaker 3: all cylinders. How do you double dip?
- 22:24Speaker 2: You just said it's allowed in the NFL for one year.
- 22:26Speaker 4: I don't know how.
- 22:27Speaker 3: I think you double dip more, but it's like a
- 22:29Speaker 3: year by year basis.
- 22:30Speaker 4: No, every vested veteran can double dip one time in
- 22:35Speaker 4: their career. So when I am as a vested player,
- 22:39Speaker 4: and I'm on the day one opening roster, like if
- 22:41Speaker 4: the ball kicks off and I'm on, on that unit,
- 22:43Speaker 4: like my year is now owed to me.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Okay. If they were to cut you and you signed
- 22:49Speaker 2: somewhere else.
- 22:49Speaker 4: If they were to cut me, I would still get
- 22:51Speaker 4: that salary that they owe me. And then I could
- 22:54Speaker 4: still sign with somewhere else. And then you also get
- 22:56Speaker 4: that money on top of it.
- 22:57Speaker 1: That's a blessing in disguise.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Um, I was going to ask though, as far as
- 23:01Speaker 1: like that ruthlessness of the fact that they just snip guys, um,
- 23:05Speaker 1: Has the, the players association and football done a better
- 23:08Speaker 1: job to claw back at more like guaranteed and how,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I guess, less ruthless it is from a guy who
- 23:15Speaker 1: could play, you know, you know, he could be gone
- 23:17Speaker 1: the next day after an injury or something. Right.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:20Speaker 2: The superstars get it, right?
- 23:21Speaker 3: I'm at a liberty to speak positively about the NFLPA
- 23:23Speaker 3: going on.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I mean.
- 23:24Speaker 2: You're not, you're not willing to.
- 23:26Speaker 3: No, I just don't think they, I don't think, I
- 23:29Speaker 3: think they could be way more effective than they actually are.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Do you think that comes from the guys making 60
- 23:34Speaker 1: million a year though, stepping up on behalf of those guys?
- 23:37Speaker 3: I think your problem is, is the degrees of payment
- 23:40Speaker 3: are insane. Like on a team, you'll have three to
- 23:44Speaker 3: five guys that are broke off, like don't have to
- 23:45Speaker 3: work again the rest of their lives. And then the
- 23:47Speaker 3: rest of it is like, They're eating what they kill.
- 23:49Speaker 3: You have your upper class and then the middle class.
- 23:52Speaker 4: The middle class is basically, yeah, cut out.
- 23:54Speaker 3: And then a very, very large amount is the lower class.
- 23:57Speaker 3: So when you get to these CBA negotiations, the collective
- 24:00Speaker 3: bargaining agreement, like renegotiating everything, it's the same way as
- 24:03Speaker 3: you look at politics. They throw out a couple of
- 24:05Speaker 3: things like, oh, we're going to give a higher minimum
- 24:07Speaker 3: to rookies or guys that are under your four years.
- 24:11Speaker 3: And everyone's like, oh, we got to jump at that
- 24:12Speaker 3: because the majority of the league is like, four years
- 24:15Speaker 3: or younger because there's such a high turnover rate. And
- 24:18Speaker 3: the average in the league is two and.
- 24:19Speaker 2: A half years. It's so big, dude.
- 24:22Speaker 1: That turnover rate has hit the NHL because it's way,
- 24:26Speaker 1: it wasn't like that like 10 years ago.
- 24:28Speaker 3: I think there's a higher demand of athletes now, like
- 24:30Speaker 3: a higher supply of athletes.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 24:32Speaker 3: There's more. I just feel like with all the access
- 24:35Speaker 3: we have to social media and the training and all that,
- 24:38Speaker 3: even for when I was in high school, I see
- 24:39Speaker 3: what these kids have. I was at my high school
- 24:40Speaker 3: last week. And it just seems like their facilities are nicer.
- 24:43Speaker 3: They just have a, they're in a, put in a
- 24:45Speaker 3: better position to be successful.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:47Speaker 3: So you just got kids peddling out that are like,
- 24:50Speaker 3: like the, I guess the barrier of entry has kind
- 24:52Speaker 3: of just done this a little bit more so they
- 24:53Speaker 3: can cycle out that bottom, you know.
- 24:55Speaker 1: 10, 15.
- 24:56Speaker 2: And they're cheaper. Yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Way cheaper.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Which is what, like the NFL is nuts. Like you
- 25:01Speaker 2: got to win, like, with the QB on his rookie deal. Like,
- 25:06Speaker 2: it's five years, right?
- 25:07Speaker 3: That's the best position to be in.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Before you've got to pay him if he's a stud.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So you're looking for your cheapest options.
- 25:14Speaker 4: It's like with the Bengals. When they had Joe Burrow
- 25:16Speaker 4: and they knew he was going to be a star,
- 25:17Speaker 4: it's like they're trying to pour more money into the
- 25:19Speaker 4: offensive line and get him weapons with Jamar Chase and
- 25:22Speaker 4: those guys. They're trying to just sprinkle around him.
- 25:24Speaker 1: A question about him. Like, handsome guy. Obviously, he's got
- 25:27Speaker 1: the world by the balls. He's a star quarterback. Like,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I don't know if I want to like my star
- 25:33Speaker 1: quarterback kind of walking in with these fucking outfits every
- 25:36Speaker 1: time like that. Like I want to just be a
- 25:38Speaker 1: little bit more all business.
- 25:39Speaker 3: That's so hockey of you.
- 25:40Speaker 1: What do you mean that's so hockey?
- 25:42Speaker 2: I thought you liked the outfits.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Joey B's got some songs, too.
- 25:47Speaker 3: The outfit he wore tonight was kind of.
- 25:49Speaker 4: I didn't see it.
- 25:50Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 25:51Speaker 3: It's kind of.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Like, listen, I get switching it up a little bit,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but he's got the frosted tips going. He looks like
- 25:58Speaker 1: a Ken doll.
- 25:59Speaker 4: He looks like Eminem.
- 26:01Speaker 1: He's going through an Eminem, Ken doll phase where it's
- 26:04Speaker 1: just like, buddy, get off your fucking Instagram grid and
- 26:08Speaker 1: get the fucking playbook.
- 26:10Speaker 3: No?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Am I out of my fucking mind here?
- 26:13Speaker 3: I think Joe is, like, one of the guys you
- 26:15Speaker 3: don't got to worry about like that.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Is he struggling?
- 26:17Speaker 4: Right, right, right.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Is he not playing well? Joe just seems like a
- 26:20Speaker 3: cat that's, like, dialed the fuck in. Right.
- 26:22Speaker 2: He's a cat that sits at his locker and plays chess.
- 26:24Speaker 4: They say Joe B plays chess against himself at his locker.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Like, he's just a different cat.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And you like how Austin Matthews shows the flair.
- 26:32Speaker 1: No, I think that I would be, I'm saying that
- 26:36Speaker 1: if I could have the ladder, like, if I could have, like,
- 26:39Speaker 1: Tom Brady walking in like a tailored suit. I'd rather,
- 26:43Speaker 1: it seems like that guy is just there for business
- 26:45Speaker 1: rather than like worrying about this new, like trendy, um, outfit.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Hey, I love that. I love that this is coming
- 26:51Speaker 2: from a guy wearing a robe.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Bro, I wouldn't want me to be a fucking starting quarterback.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't want me getting the fucking water bottles to
- 27:00Speaker 1: win a championship. Like that's not me being a hypocrite either.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Like I was the guy who dressed like a cook.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm saying I wouldn't want me leading the ship. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No?
- 27:10Speaker 4: You get the old school mentality.
- 27:11Speaker 1: So I guess I was wrong in a sense of
- 27:13Speaker 1: maybe in a certain case he's delegating his attention to
- 27:16Speaker 1: something that I would be like, eh, let's just win
- 27:19Speaker 1: some fucking games here. But you're saying he's highly intelligent,
- 27:22Speaker 1: highly committed, and I'm off base on that.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and if he's got a third thing, which, again,
- 27:28Speaker 4: I'm not in the locker room, but if he has
- 27:30Speaker 4: good relationships with the guys, ultimately you want them having
- 27:33Speaker 4: influence on the locker room in a positive way. You
- 27:36Speaker 4: want the locker room to feel good about the quarterback.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And you don't care what other people think.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 27:41Speaker 4: He checks all those boxes of intelligence.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Because I said that, you guys kind of got jammed
- 27:45Speaker 1: up where you're like, oh.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Because there's guys that can just, they're just in that 1%
- 27:51Speaker 4: of the 1%, and they have a different swagger to them.
- 27:54Speaker 3: They can kind of do what they want. But I
- 27:56Speaker 3: feel like just being an outsider, like kind of casually
- 27:59Speaker 3: enjoying hockey, I feel like that's a very traditional hockey
- 28:03Speaker 3: mindset to have. Because you guys have to wear suits,
- 28:06Speaker 3: suit and tie, all the time. You put a microphone
- 28:09Speaker 3: in front of 99.9% of hockey players.
- 28:11Speaker 4: It feels like you guys are more team, team, team
- 28:13Speaker 4: than football.
- 28:14Speaker 3: And even talking to Biz, well, cut that. But just
- 28:18Speaker 3: talking to you guys, anytime there's a compliment dished your way,
- 28:21Speaker 3: you're passing it somewhere else. Hockey players are like, don't
- 28:23Speaker 3: look at me.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Don't give me the compliments.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Don't be a part of it. That's why I got
- 28:28Speaker 3: a little uncomfortable off the hop.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Because I feel like P.K.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Subban was a guy that showed a little flair.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Who? Subban.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 3: I feel like he was a flair guy. I don't
- 28:36Speaker 3: know anything about his play, but it seemed like one
- 28:38Speaker 3: of the things that kind of got him out of
- 28:39Speaker 3: Nashville and sent him somewhere else.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Because he was loud.
- 28:43Speaker 4: He did a lot of stuff.
- 28:44Speaker 2: But I mean, he was... he was like a dynamic player.
- 28:48Speaker 2: I mean, he would have these end-to-end rushes, especially in
- 28:50Speaker 2: his career in Montreal. The crowd used to like, love him.
- 28:53Speaker 2: He'd get the puck and they'd all like start like
- 28:54Speaker 2: a small chant and then he'd just wind it up.
- 28:57Speaker 2: He was like a legend.
- 28:58Speaker 1: But I also feel like they actually let him be
- 29:01Speaker 1: himself in Nashville and it was more towards the end
- 29:03Speaker 1: of his time in Montreal when Bergervan came in.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Terrian and him had some beefs that went like, Yeah.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Like in between periods on some of those reality shows
- 29:11Speaker 2: that might've followed the Canadians. He's, you know, he was
- 29:13Speaker 2: giving it to him a bit.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 1: So it was more, it was more as, um, end
- 29:17Speaker 1: time in, in Montreal. And I knew we were going
- 29:19Speaker 1: to talk about, uh, the predators at some point. Yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Cause I, we were talking earlier and we actually, we
- 29:25Speaker 3: always do this every time we do a pod, we're
- 29:26Speaker 3: talking to somebody, it's like, Hey, just save it. But
- 29:28Speaker 3: I want to know your thought on the Preds this year.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Exciting season for the Preds.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Everyone I talk to is like, yeah, the Preds got
- 29:33Speaker 3: a squad, a young squad, and they just got Buddy
- 29:35Speaker 3: from the Lightning.
- 29:36Speaker 2: They got a bunch of buddies from uh lightning and
- 29:38Speaker 2: vegas yeah.
- 29:38Speaker 3: So they got studs everywhere and they kind of showed
- 29:41Speaker 3: up last year in a big way towards the end right.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Yeah so poil handed it off to barry trotz who
- 29:46Speaker 1: was there as the head coach and like i i
- 29:48Speaker 1: would have assumed at one point it would have just
- 29:50Speaker 1: been a complete rebuild based on where they were headed
- 29:53Speaker 1: but it's been a quick retool like they ended up
- 29:56Speaker 1: getting in um But.
- 29:57Speaker 2: They had three star players at each position, which does
- 30:01Speaker 2: change the fact that the full rebuild might not be necessary.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Forward D, they got Forsberg, Yossi, and Saros. Great three
- 30:08Speaker 2: stallions to build behind.
- 30:09Speaker 1: To build off of, absolutely. And then they go out
- 30:12Speaker 1: and get Ryan O'Reilly, which I think that people might
- 30:14Speaker 1: have thought he would have signed back in Toronto, but
- 30:17Speaker 1: Stanley Cup champion, but on the back nine of his career,
- 30:20Speaker 1: for sure. I don't know how much gas he has
- 30:22Speaker 1: left in the tank, but making obviously a huge blast
- 30:25Speaker 1: was getting Marshall. So in Stamco, so we're also older guys.
- 30:28Speaker 1: So it kind of feels like, uh, a few of
- 30:31Speaker 1: them have maybe even slighted like March or so got
- 30:33Speaker 1: hosed in, um, in, in Vegas and then Stamco with
- 30:36Speaker 1: the lightning. So they're getting these cagey old veterans and
- 30:40Speaker 1: surrounding them with, you know, they got a couple of
- 30:41Speaker 1: good young players. Evangelista is a good player. Yeah. So
- 30:46Speaker 1: they kind of did this retool as opposed to a
- 30:48Speaker 1: rebuild back and with goaltending like that and with a
- 30:52Speaker 1: solid lineup and good KG veterans that have been there
- 30:55Speaker 1: and done that. I think that they're going to for
- 30:57Speaker 1: sure make playoffs like, and you never know, maybe they
- 31:00Speaker 1: can go on a deep run like Stamkos proven champion,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Martiseau proven champion, Ryan O'Reilly, Conn Smythe, Stanley Cup winner,
- 31:07Speaker 1: Yossi's all world. And then Saros is an all world goalie.
- 31:10Speaker 1: So I think it's really going to depend on some
- 31:12Speaker 1: of these younger players that are in limbo a little bit.
- 31:16Speaker 1: and how much they can help the team. And obviously
- 31:18Speaker 1: Forsberg amongst those players I mentioned are elite.
- 31:20Speaker 2: He's sick.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I think he had a 48-goal.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Season last year. I know he's the man. He's a
- 31:25Speaker 3: great dude too.
- 31:26Speaker 1: 48 goals last year, right? He's sick.
- 31:28Speaker 2: He's a big, fast, super skilled star.
- 31:32Speaker 1: And shows up in hard times. He can play that
- 31:36Speaker 1: hard playoff-style game. So not really sure what to expect
- 31:39Speaker 1: from the youth, but hopefully whatever they do have from
- 31:42Speaker 1: prospects to youth, pops quick because like I said, all
- 31:47Speaker 1: these guys that are their leaders are really on the
- 31:49Speaker 1: back nine of their career.
- 31:50Speaker 2: So let me, let me say too, I think obviously
- 31:53Speaker 2: biz talks a lot about the, the no state tax teams.
- 31:56Speaker 2: They're one of them in the NHL. Everyone who asked
- 31:59Speaker 2: me like favorite arena to play in, I kind of
- 32:01Speaker 2: say Montreal, Chicago, like where should I go to a game? Nashville.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 2: That stadium. And the fact it's right on Broadway, it's,
- 32:10Speaker 2: it's the best setup in the league. Like if you're
- 32:12Speaker 2: want to see your team on the road, Yeah, Vegas
- 32:14Speaker 2: is cool. Go to Nashville. I love that city. They
- 32:18Speaker 2: had the draft there in 2023. And I think Biz
- 32:20Speaker 2: and I said it should be here every year. It's
- 32:23Speaker 2: just where the rink is and how sick of a
- 32:25Speaker 2: city Nashville is to visit. It's a hell of a
- 32:28Speaker 2: spot now to have players want to be there.
- 32:32Speaker 1: If I was a Canadian, well, I am a Canadian,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but if I was telling a Canadian to head down
- 32:36Speaker 1: to the States to go get an American experience... I
- 32:39Speaker 1: would probably say go to Nashville for a weekend and
- 32:42Speaker 1: then go take in a game at Bridgestone as like
- 32:44Speaker 1: a hockey cultural experience because I believe that that's what
- 32:47Speaker 1: they set up there. I know I fumble fucked that
- 32:49Speaker 1: off to start, but I think you guys know that.
- 32:52Speaker 3: They're fans of the Jets.
- 32:53Speaker 2: You made that point.
- 32:55Speaker 1: You made that point. More so than sending them to
- 32:58Speaker 1: Vegas first.
- 33:00Speaker 3: The environment's crazy. I feel like for people from the
- 33:02Speaker 3: South where hockey is not influential at all, They completely
- 33:07Speaker 3: understand the assignment of how to get into the game,
- 33:09Speaker 3: be about it, have the chance, buy in, steal the
- 33:13Speaker 3: Red Wings Octopus Day. Now we're making it catfish.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Just truly, it's like a culture flush.
- 33:19Speaker 2: It's SEC football-ish for hockey.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Yeah, but we're saying the first best. And Big Ten's
- 33:25Speaker 3: the best conference in college football.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Not for fans, bud.
- 33:28Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 33:29Speaker 2: Like the SEC games.
- 33:31Speaker 3: You ever seen 115,000 screaming fans down south?
- 33:33Speaker 2: No, because there's no stadiums. I went to a Michigan game.
- 33:36Speaker 2: It was awesome. And now the Big Ten, I guess,
- 33:38Speaker 2: is different. You added in USC and you added in
- 33:41Speaker 2: somebody else.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Oregon.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Oregon. So those two places. Actually, I don't know if
- 33:44Speaker 2: USC is that sick of an atmosphere.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 33:47Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 33:48Speaker 2: But then you got like Rutgers. You got like some
- 33:50Speaker 2: teams where every SEC stadium. Am I wrong?
- 33:54Speaker 3: Vanderbilt.
- 33:55Speaker 2: You guys are very biased. You're both Big Ten.
- 33:57Speaker 1: It's.
- 33:58Speaker 2: We're talking Ole Miss.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Vanderbilt.
- 34:00Speaker 2: You're right.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Is college football bigger than ever?
- 34:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:03Speaker 2: You guys, college football is bigger in the South.
- 34:05Speaker 4: You can't admit that?
- 34:06Speaker 1: In our world, it is.
- 34:07Speaker 4: No, it is, bro.
- 34:08Speaker 1: It is.
- 34:08Speaker 2: You can't admit that? College football is bigger in the South?
- 34:13Speaker 1: It is.
- 34:13Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Hey, come on.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Listen.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Are you doing it?
- 34:18Speaker 2: No, no.
- 34:18Speaker 3: I'm really trying to think about it.
- 34:20Speaker 2: This is going to go viral.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Bro, think about this.
- 34:24Speaker 1: You got Ohio, Michigan.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you got Ohio, Michigan, Penn State. Even throw in Nebraska. Well,
- 34:30Speaker 3: that's not disrespectful.
- 34:31Speaker 4: We want to be with the South.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Nebraska, Michigan State. You go to these schools in the
- 34:38Speaker 3: Big Ten and you start to realize people who live
- 34:41Speaker 3: around the region fucking die for all of these teams.
- 34:44Speaker 1: They're about it.
- 34:45Speaker 3: It's different.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Down South, I think people are living and dying by
- 34:49Speaker 2: their teams.
- 34:50Speaker 3: In Big Ten, it's a way of life. In the South,
- 34:53Speaker 3: it's a religion to be a.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Part of your team.
- 34:56Speaker 4: That sounds kind of like both. Religion? The way of
- 34:59Speaker 4: life in religion?
- 35:00Speaker 1: That was deep, man.
- 35:01Speaker 2: You landed that plane excellent. You landed that plane excellent.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I thought I was going to be as bad as
- 35:06Speaker 2: my Joe Burrow.
- 35:07Speaker 3: The way of life in religion is like the same shit.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I thought you were going to trump my Joe Burrow
- 35:11Speaker 1: take and take the focus off me there. You really
- 35:14Speaker 1: came back.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Joe Burrow, I will tell you, if Joe Burrow was
- 35:15Speaker 3: 3-0 right now, we would all be sitting here being like,
- 35:18Speaker 3: I love a guy like Flair.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Let me tell you something.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but he's not. What is he, 1-2? I think
- 35:22Speaker 1: he's about to go 1-2.
- 35:23Speaker 2: He's... He's down 28-13 with three minutes left in the third.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And about six minutes before the game, I bet the
- 35:34Speaker 2: Bengals and bought it to minus six and a half,
- 35:36Speaker 2: which made it minus 133 and hammered him. So I
- 35:39Speaker 2: believed in him, but right now.
- 35:41Speaker 1: They're going to be 0-3.
- 35:41Speaker 4: I took Washington.
- 35:42Speaker 2: No, they're going to be 1-2, getting smoked by the commanders.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Did you really?
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Jaden Denton, dude, having new quarterbacks come in that are like,
- 35:49Speaker 3: can run like that.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah, bro.
- 35:50Speaker 4: They just get dangerous.
- 35:51Speaker 2: He's 10 for 11 in the game.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Kyler Murray did it his rookie year. Like, it's just
- 35:56Speaker 3: cats that. They deceptive on their legs on the ground.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Um, what do you make of all the whole Taylor Swift,
- 36:03Speaker 1: the Travis Kelce stuff? Like, obviously it's probably talked about
- 36:06Speaker 1: way too much and, and too often. I don't know
- 36:08Speaker 1: if it pisses off your, your viewers when you guys
- 36:11Speaker 1: talk about it, but like that kind of went nuclear.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Like this guy is like going to make like hundreds
- 36:16Speaker 1: of millions when he's done playing. Is she getting paid too?
- 36:19Speaker 4: Their podcast did like a hundred million dollar deal, I think.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Yeah, New Heights did like $ 100 million.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Is the NFL paying her to be at all these games,
- 36:26Speaker 2: you think?
- 36:26Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 36:27Speaker 3: It could be some deep state stuff.
- 36:28Speaker 1: You think so?
- 36:30Speaker 3: No, I don't truly believe that, but I love a
- 36:32Speaker 3: good competition like that.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 36:35Speaker 1: What's the popularity from a stats perspective, like viewership, internet clicks?
- 36:42Speaker 3: The cap went up crazy this year based on revenues
- 36:45Speaker 3: generated from 2023.
- 36:46Speaker 1: And that had a lot to do with that.
- 36:48Speaker 4: You got to assume that her audience is getting paid.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Huh? He thinks I'm nuts for even asking if the
- 36:56Speaker 2: NFL would be paying for her to go to games.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Yeah, but just because I think what her and Travis
- 36:59Speaker 4: have is real.
- 37:01Speaker 1: So if it's real, she's going.
- 37:02Speaker 4: To go to the game. She's not like trying.
- 37:04Speaker 2: To look for it.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Okay, hold on. Hold on.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Even if it was real and she's like the business
- 37:10Speaker 2: woman it seems she is, she's at the game. It's popping.
- 37:14Speaker 2: It's the biggest news when she's at a game. You
- 37:16Speaker 2: don't think she could be like, yo, I want to
- 37:17Speaker 2: start getting paid for the CBS or NFL?
- 37:20Speaker 3: Hell no, bro. She makes like billions of dollars.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Yeah, rich people, they always think of ways to make
- 37:26Speaker 2: a lot of money.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, but what do they- Maybe this is a
- 37:28Speaker 4: big reach, but the- If you're Taylor Swift, what are
- 37:31Speaker 4: you charging? If they're like, all right, throw a number
- 37:33Speaker 4: at us, what are you charging?
- 37:34Speaker 2: She's like, I want two million bucks every game I
- 37:37Speaker 2: go to. The NFL would probably pay it.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I love this take.
- 37:42Speaker 2: The NFL would probably pay it.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Maybe.
- 37:45Speaker 3: I don't know, bro.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Hey, can we have your fans vote on who had
- 37:48Speaker 1: the worst take, my Joe Burrow or that one? I
- 37:51Speaker 1: think we should have a vote. Who's going to walk
- 37:54Speaker 1: the plank?
- 37:55Speaker 3: Who's going to walk the plank?
- 38:01Speaker 1: That's being a bro, man. You took all the focus
- 38:03Speaker 1: off me there.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I don't necessarily believe it, but then I wanted to
- 38:07Speaker 2: argue it.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I want to see your bank statements.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Do you need Taylor Swift at your games that bad
- 38:12Speaker 4: that you're paying too many dollars?
- 38:13Speaker 1: Apparently, you're telling me the cap went up because of it.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I really went on a run when he goes to
- 38:18Speaker 2: Kaplan up huge after last year.
- 38:20Speaker 1: The players must tell him thank you, thank you every
- 38:23Speaker 1: time they line up across from him based on what
- 38:25Speaker 1: he's doing.
- 38:25Speaker 2: He looks unhappy right now.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Travis is under some hot water right now.
- 38:28Speaker 2: He's sitting on the bench like this.
- 38:30Speaker 3: He said his first three games have been tough. Like
- 38:32Speaker 3: not Travis at all. There's a new title they got too.
- 38:36Speaker 3: We're basically saying like, oh, we got to see where
- 38:38Speaker 3: his priorities are at. Like this is the first time.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I think since the beginning of Travis' career that people
- 38:43Speaker 3: are like, what's going on with him? Because he's always, he's.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Been a thousand yard guy every time.
- 38:47Speaker 4: And he's always been a guy that shows up.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Always a guy that shows up.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Always trying to play. Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 1: But I also wouldn't give a fuck till game eight
- 38:54Speaker 1: if I'm like the Kansas City Chiefs. I know.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Just get ready for the playoffs.
- 38:58Speaker 1: They just say, come on. I know. We talked about
- 39:00Speaker 1: the dog days during the hockey season, game 56 to
- 39:03Speaker 1: 62 or whatever. Like his dog days. What's that?
- 39:07Speaker 2: There's only six games.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Hey, buddy, it's late. Put it on the list for
- 39:14Speaker 3: the fans to talk about.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Oh, for fuck's sake. Yeah, did both of mine outweigh Witt's?
- 39:19Speaker 1: I don't even remember where I was.
- 39:21Speaker 2: I interrupted you.
- 39:22Speaker 1: The dog days for KC and him are like games
- 39:27Speaker 1: one through four. They're like, fuck, man.
- 39:28Speaker 4: He's never had a losing season.
- 39:30Speaker 2: He's never had a losing year?
- 39:31Speaker 1: Ever.
- 39:32Speaker 4: No.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like, why could they not get another season?
- 39:36Speaker 1: What's their record?
- 39:36Speaker 4: He might have been in the playoffs every year.
- 39:38Speaker 2: They're 3-0 right now.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Imagine the hockey career.
- 39:41Speaker 2: And he proves my argument of not knowing the NFL
- 39:44Speaker 2: but saying, you're so dumb to draft these high quarterbacks
- 39:47Speaker 2: and play them first year. I don't get it. Let
- 39:49Speaker 2: them watch and learn and practice and take a year
- 39:53Speaker 2: in and then have them start. Mahomes did it. Brady
- 39:56Speaker 2: did it. Aaron Rodgers did it.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers did it.
- 40:01Speaker 2: What? CJ Stroud's the argument, but for every CJ Stroud,
- 40:04Speaker 2: it seems like there's 50 dudes.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Yeah, but there's multiple guys. Josh Allen's another guy. that
- 40:09Speaker 3: was thrusted in there. Joe Burrow was another guy that
- 40:10Speaker 3: got thrusted in there.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Joe Burrow was the first overall superstar. I could see that.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Peyton Manning.
- 40:16Speaker 4: He threw, he's got the league record for interceptions.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I thought that was broken.
- 40:21Speaker 3: No, we had him on a couple weeks ago.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Oh, that was cool, huh? Did you see him walk
- 40:26Speaker 2: out in a Tennessee uniform to the Wall and Wall concert?
- 40:29Speaker 4: No.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Full pads, helmet on.
- 40:31Speaker 1: He's a silly guy. Oh, you guys just had him on. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:36Speaker 3: It was probably the best episode we've ever had.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Really?
- 40:38Speaker 1: It was fun, bro.
- 40:39Speaker 2: It was just like a legend, man.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Because you get like a white whale. I'm sure you
- 40:41Speaker 3: guys got your white whales. But like you get one
- 40:43Speaker 3: of them on and you're like stoked to have them.
- 40:45Speaker 3: But then he's telling stories where like, I wish we
- 40:47Speaker 3: had three more hours.
- 40:48Speaker 2: That's a dream.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Yeah, because it was like there were legitimate laughs. And
- 40:52Speaker 3: even when you tell a joke and he kind of giggles,
- 40:53Speaker 3: you're like, I just made fucking pain in the ass.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 3: He's feeding into the conversation kind of like this is
- 40:58Speaker 3: where like no one's really controlling it. We're all just talking.
- 41:01Speaker 3: he was kind of about that it was just great and.
- 41:03Speaker 2: It was man how about us doing doing what we
- 41:06Speaker 2: do like when you get an interview where the guy
- 41:09Speaker 2: is just biz says put a quarter in him and
- 41:11Speaker 2: let him go it's the best and it's like you're
- 41:13Speaker 2: not you don't feel like you're like i'm working right
- 41:16Speaker 2: now yeah and then you add it to being like
- 41:18Speaker 2: a legend you're like this is this is the best job.
- 41:21Speaker 3: In the world there's nothing worse dude than sitting with
- 41:24Speaker 3: somebody and you have your little sheet just in case
- 41:26Speaker 3: things aren't going well and by minute you got nothing
- 41:28Speaker 3: i got no more bullets oh and I got.
- 41:31Speaker 4: No more bullets.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Those are the worst. But the good thing is, I'm
- 41:33Speaker 3: sure you guys do, is when Will and I have
- 41:35Speaker 3: a little issue, we'll just start bouncing off each other
- 41:37Speaker 3: and kind of find something, and then we'll just sauce
- 41:40Speaker 3: it over and.
- 41:40Speaker 2: See if we can take it off.
- 41:41Speaker 1: You pull your chair, just block him out.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Basis at times will just start fucking around.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. He's like, all right. Who's got the smelliest
- 41:49Speaker 1: farts on the team? Who's got the smelliest farts on
- 41:53Speaker 1: the team? Yeah, like legit stupid shit at them if
- 41:55Speaker 1: they're going to give me nothing. If you're going to
- 41:58Speaker 1: give me two-word answers, just don't come on.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Yeah, even if you are a big name. Do you
- 42:04Speaker 3: guys have more issues with active players?
- 42:07Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 42:08Speaker 2: It's getting better.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I feel like we've gotten better at it, and you
- 42:12Speaker 1: also just make them shorter. If you get 15 minutes
- 42:15Speaker 1: out of them, the YouTube generation and the current fans
- 42:20Speaker 1: do want to hear from these players.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Even some, but sometimes you, you get these, like the,
- 42:25Speaker 1: some gems, like we had this Arbor Jack guy on
- 42:28Speaker 1: and he was an hour and Montreal fans are crazy.
- 42:31Speaker 1: He plays for the Habs. And that was one of
- 42:33Speaker 1: our most listened to in a long time. So, but
- 42:36Speaker 1: there's nothing better than when you get this like old
- 42:39Speaker 1: veteran who doesn't give a fuck and he is just
- 42:42Speaker 1: letting it fly. We had a Eddie Shaq. This guy
- 42:46Speaker 1: was an old school.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Rest in peace.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Rest in peace. He passed away. Mind you, we had
- 42:51Speaker 1: to delete like seven minutes of the interview because this
- 42:54Speaker 1: guy was as old school as they came. But he
- 42:56Speaker 1: didn't give a shit. He was telling us these insane
- 42:59Speaker 1: stories about when hockey was in black and white. So
- 43:02Speaker 1: it was like getting those throwbacks and getting those guys
- 43:05Speaker 1: slinging it, there's nothing better.
- 43:07Speaker 4: And when it's coming out of their mouth too, you
- 43:09Speaker 4: just know. You're like, oh man, this dude, he's letting
- 43:11Speaker 4: it rip.
- 43:12Speaker 1: And you know the fans are listening on their stereo
- 43:15Speaker 1: and they're like, this is what we want.
- 43:17Speaker 4: And they love it, bro.
- 43:19Speaker 3: The authenticity from guys. When you get done, you just
- 43:22Speaker 3: look at each other and you're like, that was a
- 43:24Speaker 3: fucking pod.
- 43:25Speaker 2: It's the best feeling in the world.
- 43:26Speaker 3: You know every week your pod comes at the same time,
- 43:28Speaker 3: but this week especially, you're like, I cannot wait. You're
- 43:31Speaker 3: checking it every hour.
- 43:32Speaker 1: They're going to love it. you got that personal enjoyment
- 43:36Speaker 1: from it and you're, you're, but you're more excited for
- 43:38Speaker 1: the fans to hear it. Cause like you were able
- 43:40Speaker 1: to extract this and deliver it to them. And it's
- 43:42Speaker 1: just like, it makes doing what we do. Like that
- 43:44Speaker 1: to me is like the, that's the part.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Do people tell you guys, um, like, Oh, I listened
- 43:50Speaker 2: to you guys like throughout the week, every day. And
- 43:53Speaker 2: it's unreal. Like I'm at work and the time flies
- 43:55Speaker 2: by and it's like, that's the best compliment. Like, he's like,
- 43:58Speaker 2: you just like so many hours. I enjoy listening to
- 44:01Speaker 2: you guys just shoot the shit. It just like, I'm
- 44:03Speaker 2: in traffic. It doesn't even feel like I'm sitting in
- 44:05Speaker 2: it that long because it's a good pod. And you're like,
- 44:07Speaker 2: that's the best compliment you could get.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Just take it away from people's regular everyday life.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Where they're able to be like, oh, fuck it.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Just shut the brain off for a minute.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I just got to work. Let me throw on the
- 44:17Speaker 3: boys real quick for a little bit. I'm going to
- 44:18Speaker 3: rip this. And then two hours goes by and you're like,
- 44:20Speaker 3: god damn.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You listen to certain podcasts and I'm like the same way.
- 44:23Speaker 1: It's like, oh, nice.
- 44:24Speaker 2: You can just chill, listen to this. You're looking forward
- 44:26Speaker 2: to it.
- 44:26Speaker 4: Yeah. You're following their lives.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Especially when you go on the hunt too and you're like,
- 44:29Speaker 3: I always put a Rogan one in. But he had
- 44:32Speaker 3: Tom Segura on recently. And like getting to know Tom
- 44:34Speaker 3: and all that, I'm like, oh, I'm kind of, I
- 44:36Speaker 3: had like a big hour drive ahead of me. I'm like, oh, fuck,
- 44:39Speaker 3: I'm going to put this on right now.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 3: That hour went by like that.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:42Speaker 3: And I was like, Jesus.
- 44:43Speaker 2: It's an unreal job what we get to do.
- 44:45Speaker 3: And when you get to meet those guys.
- 44:47Speaker 4: It's like you want to say the same stuff to
- 44:49Speaker 4: them because you want them to know that like, yo,
- 44:51Speaker 4: you impact me. And so when those people say it
- 44:53Speaker 4: to you, you realize the impact you're doing to them
- 44:55Speaker 4: because you feel it with the people that we listen to.
- 44:57Speaker 3: I know because every UFC fight I ever go to,
- 45:01Speaker 3: the big ones, Rogan's there. And I want to every
- 45:03Speaker 3: time just kind of go be like, I know we
- 45:05Speaker 3: met before, bro, but still the man. And not in
- 45:08Speaker 3: a creepy way, but just be like, the same thing
- 45:10Speaker 3: that people say to, you were just explaining, is like, yeah. Like, bro,
- 45:14Speaker 3: I know you have the biggest podcast in the entire world,
- 45:16Speaker 3: but I'm one of them. I'm one of the people
- 45:17Speaker 3: that listen to the show. And I just want you
- 45:19Speaker 3: to know that's cool as fuck. And then dip out
- 45:21Speaker 3: of there.
- 45:21Speaker 4: But you never do.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Well, you guys had on, fuck, what's his name? Politician guy.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Oh, RFK.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, RFK. I was going to ask you, like,
- 45:30Speaker 1: we kind of avoid the politics talk. Did you guys
- 45:32Speaker 1: talk about politics when he was on? And, like, what
- 45:35Speaker 1: do your viewers think? Like, does it create tension? Like,
- 45:38Speaker 1: do you get negative comments for getting political? And, like, hey,
- 45:41Speaker 1: stick to sports. I mean, I feel like you.
- 45:43Speaker 4: When you're in that world, you're going to get comments
- 45:45Speaker 4: no matter what. But it was one of those things
- 45:46Speaker 4: like Taylor and I talked about, like, hey, do we
- 45:48Speaker 4: want a politician along? Yada, yada, yada. But then we
- 45:50Speaker 4: got back to the question that we have with everybody
- 45:53Speaker 4: else we have on. It's like, how do we bring
- 45:54Speaker 4: the locker room to life like with this person? So
- 45:57Speaker 4: even though we might have had a couple like questions
- 45:59Speaker 4: about politics, like we're trying to talk to him and
- 46:01Speaker 4: get out stories the same way you guys do, the
- 46:03Speaker 4: same way we do with players, the same way with
- 46:05Speaker 4: anybody that comes on the bus. And ultimately, you want
- 46:07Speaker 4: them to feel good enough to where they're coming off
- 46:09Speaker 4: authentically like you were talking about. when you find somebody
- 46:12Speaker 4: that just storytells and it's just like putting a quarter
- 46:14Speaker 4: in them. Because ultimately, the people who are watching and
- 46:17Speaker 4: listening to it, they're going to love seeing that side
- 46:20Speaker 4: of that person.
- 46:20Speaker 2: And they might learn something. That RFK interview, I watched it.
- 46:24Speaker 2: The one thing about that guy that's cool is he
- 46:27Speaker 2: is so into... the health of the United States and
- 46:30Speaker 2: the kids. So who the fuck's not going to be
- 46:32Speaker 2: down with hearing his ways?
- 46:34Speaker 3: That's a good point.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Like at least my wife, she's like, he talks a lot,
- 46:38Speaker 2: the food that we eat and how much shit is
- 46:40Speaker 2: in the food.
- 46:41Speaker 3: That we're feeding our kids and how kids are just eating.
- 46:44Speaker 2: And I ate like shit, like sugary cereal, but like he's,
- 46:47Speaker 2: it's probably to me, one of the most important things.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Like why is our nation so fat? We've gone off
- 46:52Speaker 2: a deep end here, but you brought that interview up
- 46:54Speaker 2: and that's what about him. If you can't enjoy listening
- 46:57Speaker 2: to at least his ideas of a good thing, then
- 47:00Speaker 2: who cares if you hate it, right?
- 47:01Speaker 3: Yeah, the cool thing about RFK is I have friends
- 47:04Speaker 3: that are on both sides of the fence. And every
- 47:06Speaker 3: time I brought up RFK, everyone's kind of like, yeah,
- 47:09Speaker 3: I like him. No one ever has a really super
- 47:11Speaker 3: divisive thought process about RFK. There's some people... More on
- 47:14Speaker 3: the left, actually, that are like, oh, he's a fucking kook.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Like he, you know, the brain worms, all this stuff.
- 47:19Speaker 3: But every guy on the right I've talked to has
- 47:22Speaker 3: been like, yeah, RFK is the man.
- 47:24Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 47:25Speaker 2: His voice probably affects him from ever becoming president.
- 47:27Speaker 3: And getting ready for this thing, getting ready for his podcast,
- 47:30Speaker 3: I went and like looked back at old interviews and
- 47:31Speaker 3: he had a regular voice.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Really?
- 47:33Speaker 4: Totally fine.
- 47:34Speaker 1: He had like this, I know it's messed up. I
- 47:36Speaker 1: just thought maybe he had a deep voice.
- 47:38Speaker 3: No, he had, he had a regular voice and then
- 47:40Speaker 3: there was some sort of like disease that like, he
- 47:42Speaker 3: had like some sort of autoimmune disease and I'm butchering
- 47:44Speaker 3: it that attacked his vocal cords.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 47:46Speaker 3: And so it sounds like he's struggling to talk all
- 47:47Speaker 3: the time but really he's just, He feels fine. He
- 47:50Speaker 3: feels like us talking right now. It's just how it
- 47:51Speaker 3: comes out.
- 47:52Speaker 1: That's the way it's coming out. No shit, eh?
- 47:54Speaker 3: Which is crazy.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So did you ask him about how he even got
- 47:57Speaker 1: into it and the politics and all that? Obviously, his
- 48:00Speaker 1: father was, so he kind of just fell in line.
- 48:02Speaker 2: The first 10 minutes was- His father wasn't JFK, though.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Do you know that?
- 48:06Speaker 1: Oh, was it his uncle?
- 48:07Speaker 2: Yeah. So his father and his uncle were assassinated.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Oh, Christ.
- 48:10Speaker 2: His father was assassinated, too.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Keep in mind, guys, I'm Canadian.
- 48:13Speaker 2: I don't know a lot of- He didn't know Abraham
- 48:14Speaker 2: Lincoln was assassinated.
- 48:15Speaker 3: You didn't know Abraham Lincoln was assassinated?
- 48:17Speaker 2: No clue.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, is that bad?
- 48:22Speaker 4: No, no, not at all.
- 48:23Speaker 3: I mean, yeah. It's, I don't know who like China's history.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Okay, good.
- 48:27Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't know the Canadian history or nothing like that.
- 48:29Speaker 3: Hey, biz was telling me that all the Canadians that
- 48:31Speaker 3: watch us, biz loves Trudeau, bro. He was saying how much.
- 48:36Speaker 1: He's all about Kevin O'Leary to a certain degree. Like
- 48:40Speaker 1: most of what he said, I think it was on
- 48:42Speaker 1: the full send podcast. He had a very good breakdown of,
- 48:45Speaker 1: of like why he has this. He said he's successful
- 48:47Speaker 1: in the sense he's been in power for nine years.
- 48:49Speaker 1: And that's a long time. And I don't think like
- 48:53Speaker 1: as a person he's maybe malicious. I just think he
- 48:56Speaker 1: has zero clue what he's doing. And it's just like, yeah.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Every Canadian, because I go up to Kelowna all the time.
- 49:03Speaker 3: And every Canadian I've met, I've not met one person
- 49:06Speaker 3: that likes Trudeau.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I haven't really met any either. And I'm in Canada.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Right? It's kind of like.
- 49:12Speaker 3: It's all the trucks, all the Proud Boys. Literally, it's
- 49:15Speaker 3: so funny. And I've told this. Canada and America are
- 49:18Speaker 3: the exact same. They're the exact same. You guys just
- 49:21Speaker 3: have stabbings.
- 49:22Speaker 4: We have shootings.
- 49:22Speaker 3: That's basically the only difference between Canada and America because Canadians,
- 49:27Speaker 3: Canadians look, Canadians look at me and they're like, you guys'
- 49:31Speaker 3: politics are crazy. But then I drive down the street
- 49:34Speaker 3: and there's like big, you know, Chevy trucks and there's like,
- 49:36Speaker 3: fuck Trudeau with a bunch of stickers and.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Stuff like that.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a little bit of that.
- 49:40Speaker 1: It's all the same.
- 49:41Speaker 2: We have 230 million people versus 35.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but you guys are only 100 miles, within 100
- 49:46Speaker 3: miles of the border. Like, you guys are just our
- 49:49Speaker 3: upper states. I also wouldn't get that intense about it.
- 49:51Speaker 3: It's more of like, I think that there's time for
- 49:54Speaker 3: change and if people want to elect him and keep
- 49:56Speaker 3: him in, it's like, all right, well, fuck. I mean,
- 49:58Speaker 3: I'm spending most of my time in the, in the
- 50:00Speaker 3: U S anyway, but all my family and friends are Canadian.
- 50:02Speaker 3: So it's like, ah, they don't seem to, to, to
- 50:05Speaker 3: want him there either. So that's just kind of how
- 50:08Speaker 3: I never, I never invest that much energy into it.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Cause like realistically, not much is going to change about
- 50:13Speaker 3: our lives, depending on what happens.
- 50:14Speaker 2: That's what I was going to say. For me, like
- 50:16Speaker 2: I follow it all and I have certain opinions, but
- 50:19Speaker 2: I'm like, maybe it's a bad way of looking at it. Like,
- 50:21Speaker 2: is my life going to change? Now the argument would
- 50:23Speaker 2: be like, you should care about other people's, but I
- 50:26Speaker 2: do too, but I'm being honest. It's like, it doesn't
- 50:29Speaker 2: change my life, really, what's going on that much. So
- 50:34Speaker 2: I argue with people all the time. I don't know.
- 50:37Speaker 3: I enjoy the rabbit holes. I really enjoy getting on Twitter,
- 50:41Speaker 3: hitting a search bar, typing one or the other in,
- 50:44Speaker 3: and just kind of scrolling comments and seeing.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Do you even know what to believe?
- 50:49Speaker 3: People just breaking things down.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Do you even know what's legit and real?
- 50:53Speaker 3: No, and that's the thing that blows my mind. I
- 50:55Speaker 3: go back to the Rogan and Segura. They were talking
- 50:57Speaker 3: about what's real and what's not. I think if I
- 50:59Speaker 3: Googled something controversial right now, and I would read it,
- 51:02Speaker 3: I don't know if that's the truth or not.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, neither do I.
- 51:05Speaker 3: So to me, it's like, how am I going to
- 51:07Speaker 3: find out the actual answer? I might as well just
- 51:09Speaker 3: kind of sit back.
- 51:10Speaker 2: You let your imagination run wild.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Yeah, play with the chaos in my head.
- 51:13Speaker 4: And it's good to have a podcast that's popular with that.
- 51:17Speaker 3: It is a fun little game. But that RFK one
- 51:19Speaker 3: was so much fun.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It was fun, yeah.
- 51:21Speaker 3: When he was telling stories about his uncle and his dad,
- 51:24Speaker 3: and growing up, and the Redskins would come over to
- 51:26Speaker 3: their house.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Like the football players?
- 51:28Speaker 3: Yeah, like the football players. Like the football players would
- 51:34Speaker 3: come over.
- 51:35Speaker 4: Like when we were like, no, no, not the football players.
- 51:38Speaker 2: No, the Native Americans.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Hey, there's like five people listening saying, thanks for clarifying.
- 51:44Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 51:45Speaker 1: And the rest are like, that guy's a fucking moron.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Never have him back on.
- 51:47Speaker 3: He's catching too many bullets. We got to switch it
- 51:49Speaker 3: on somebody else.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Hey guys, I'm not very intelligent. I never went to
- 51:53Speaker 1: college other than Davenport University. That was like in a
- 51:55Speaker 1: portable and I took two classes. And I slept the
- 51:58Speaker 1: entire time like you would do during film in the NFL.
- 52:01Speaker 1: No doubt. Especially your rookie year.
- 52:03Speaker 3: The stories he was telling were just crazy. And it
- 52:06Speaker 3: was so much fun to listen to because he's telling
- 52:08Speaker 3: things that we've all learned about at some capacity. Americans
- 52:12Speaker 3: have learned about at some capacity.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Like?
- 52:14Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 52:14Speaker 3: He can check out the episode. Yeah, I guess you're right.
- 52:19Speaker 3: People are probably listening. You're about to break down the
- 52:21Speaker 3: full episode.
- 52:21Speaker 4: You're about to break it down.
- 52:23Speaker 1: No, I think you would direct traffic that some of
- 52:26Speaker 1: our listeners might go over.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Yeah, the RFK podcast is great. They talk about his
- 52:30Speaker 3: dad's assassination, his dad and them going over to Poland.
- 52:33Speaker 3: It was an awesome time.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Go check it out. That was a nice poll.
- 52:35Speaker 3: What did it bring me back in there, dude?
- 52:37Speaker 2: I was about to give it a go.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Well, that would have been one story. That would have
- 52:42Speaker 1: been a best of, then direct more traffic. Anyway, we
- 52:45Speaker 1: can move on.
- 52:46Speaker 4: I got a question for you guys. What's up with
- 52:48Speaker 4: the world? It seems like you guys get into it
- 52:51Speaker 4: with GMs. I saw the recent one.
- 52:53Speaker 2: It feels like you guys.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Have been toes with an organization or two.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we have been, and I guess it's kind of
- 53:00Speaker 2: weird because Biz and I got real no desire to
- 53:03Speaker 2: be causing a ruckus in organizations.
- 53:05Speaker 1: But we seem to do it every year.
- 53:07Speaker 2: But last year with the Columbus head coach, he ended
- 53:09Speaker 2: up getting fired based on a report and something Biz
- 53:13Speaker 2: had heard, and it snowballed when research was done into somewhere.
- 53:16Speaker 2: A coach was fired right before the season. And then
- 53:19Speaker 2: this year I talked about the Boston Bruins star goalie,
- 53:23Speaker 2: Jeremy Swayman young, maybe 25. I don't know exactly his age,
- 53:26Speaker 2: but just became like a star in the league. He'd
- 53:30Speaker 2: the last few years been playing with a great goalie
- 53:32Speaker 2: who won the Vets on Boston. They had a two
- 53:34Speaker 2: man tandem. Well, they traded the other guy, Linus Allmark.
- 53:38Speaker 2: And now it's Swayman, but they traded him when he
- 53:40Speaker 2: was unsigned. They traded Allmark and Swayman didn't have a deal.
- 53:43Speaker 2: So now it's going on all summer. Now training camp started,
- 53:46Speaker 2: and he's not there, and he's not signed. He's holding out.
- 53:49Speaker 2: I went on and was told the offer the Bruins
- 53:52Speaker 2: gave him, which was an enormous slap in the face.
- 53:55Speaker 2: He's looking for around eight years' time. I bet you
- 53:58Speaker 2: he'd take 8.258. And they offered him four years at
- 54:01Speaker 2: 6.2 million. So he's looking for 64. Say they offered him,
- 54:05Speaker 2: what is that, 26?
- 54:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:09Speaker 2: I went on and gave that, and then I also
- 54:10Speaker 2: mentioned that I'd been told that the Bruins hadn't been
- 54:13Speaker 2: returning his agent's calls and responding to a possible re-offer
- 54:19Speaker 2: or an offer given back by the agent and the player,
- 54:23Speaker 2: and that he hadn't heard back from Don Sweeney, the GM.
- 54:26Speaker 2: And randomly, in the middle of his preseason, the day
- 54:28Speaker 2: before training camp press conference, he was asked about Swayman.
- 54:33Speaker 2: He's not signed. He kept getting asked, kept getting asked.
- 54:35Speaker 2: He's like, I'm not going to talk about rumors, but
- 54:37Speaker 2: one rumor that was bullshit Was the spitting up on
- 54:42Speaker 2: yourself podcast.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 54:45Speaker 2: The spitting up.
- 54:46Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 54:47Speaker 1: The minute I heard that, I said, we got him.
- 54:49Speaker 2: He goes, I know.
- 54:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:49Speaker 2: And so boom, I'm like, all right, well now we're
- 54:51Speaker 2: in the middle of this, but it's kind of hilarious
- 54:53Speaker 2: that a GM's talking about our podcast, naming it a
- 54:55Speaker 2: different name. Like we're in the mix, but it's weird.
- 54:59Speaker 2: So he ends up saying, yeah. And you know, my
- 55:02Speaker 2: son loves Paul Bissonnette and he's a very entertaining guy
- 55:05Speaker 2: and And he goes into like, but they're doing it
- 55:07Speaker 2: for kind of clicks is basically I'm paraphrasing what he said.
- 55:10Speaker 2: That's what they do. They don't know it for facts.
- 55:12Speaker 2: They shouldn't present it as facts. Biz didn't even say it.
- 55:15Speaker 2: I said it. So then it's like, all right, well,
- 55:18Speaker 2: we're in the myth. We're in the middle of it.
- 55:19Speaker 2: We got to address it now. Right. And I, I,
- 55:22Speaker 2: we did the episode drops. Um, is this dropping Tuesday morning?
- 55:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Ours drops. Ours is live right now. And we addressed this.
- 55:30Speaker 1: And, um, you know, so go check it out.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Go check it out.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Go check it out.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Go check it out.
- 55:36Speaker 1: And yeah.
- 55:37Speaker 2: And biz had a conversation with him and, and there's evidence.
- 55:39Speaker 1: He called me.
- 55:40Speaker 2: There's evidence that he, you know, he's not a fan
- 55:42Speaker 2: of mine. So it kind of is, is what it is,
- 55:45Speaker 2: but we are in the mix.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 55:46Speaker 2: That's a long answer. Long answer.
- 55:48Speaker 1: That's how we, we got in the mix and yeah,
- 55:50Speaker 1: just kind of like, I don't know.
- 55:52Speaker 2: But at the same time, we had two current GMs
- 55:55Speaker 2: on the same episode that's live right now. So it's like,
- 55:58Speaker 2: If we got two GMs that are friendly enough and
- 56:00Speaker 2: good enough to us to come on, while one GM
- 56:03Speaker 2: really doesn't like me, I mean, we're still doing pretty
- 56:05Speaker 2: well with St. Louis and Minnesota. Doug Armstrong and Billy
- 56:09Speaker 2: Guerin coming on and talking to us about their teams. Right.
- 56:12Speaker 4: Now, when you go out and talk about the player and, like,
- 56:17Speaker 4: they offered him X, Y, and Z. Are you getting
- 56:19Speaker 4: that from the player's camp? And if so, like, are
- 56:21Speaker 4: you asking?
- 56:21Speaker 2: No, and you wouldn't say who you're getting it from anyways.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Got you.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Like, hockey.
- 56:26Speaker 2: I'm.
- 56:26Speaker 1: Only saying if you.
- 56:27Speaker 3: I'm only saying if you.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Adam Schefter, like, he ain't giving up sources.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't... The minute you say your sources, you'll
- 56:34Speaker 3: never get another source.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Right. I mean, imagine how many fucking sources Adam Schefter has.
- 56:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 3: He's got to have everything.
- 56:40Speaker 2: He gets every breaking... Elliott Friedman's similar to that in
- 56:43Speaker 2: the NHL. They... They're breaking the biggest news. So they
- 56:48Speaker 2: got mad sources and they're not giving in to any
- 56:51Speaker 2: of them.
- 56:51Speaker 4: Do you ever get worried about players wanting to come back?
- 56:54Speaker 4: That player was like, hey, why would you be saying that?
- 56:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but I wouldn't say something I don't think. Me
- 57:00Speaker 2: saying what I heard, I don't know Jeremy Swayman, but
- 57:03Speaker 2: me saying the offer the Bruins gave him, I know
- 57:07Speaker 2: that that would never hurt him. I'm helping him in
- 57:10Speaker 2: a sense. Everyone's like, that's the fucking offer they gave him.
- 57:13Speaker 2: If I was like, if I didn't know the guy, well,
- 57:16Speaker 2: I guess I would say this, but if I'm like,
- 57:18Speaker 2: I heard this team offered him 10 million years and
- 57:20Speaker 2: not taken it. So he'd be look bad. I don't
- 57:22Speaker 2: know if I'd share that. Do you know what I'm saying?
- 57:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:25Speaker 3: You're more for the player.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't have a problem. Yeah.
- 57:28Speaker 2: I guess if I didn't know him, I wouldn't, but
- 57:30Speaker 2: I would.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Be honest about saying, yeah, if you think you're fucking
- 57:32Speaker 1: worth more than, than I guess, try and get it.
- 57:34Speaker 1: But I think he's being a little greedy in this sense. Yeah.
- 57:37Speaker 1: That's true. If that was the case, but, but also
- 57:41Speaker 1: one part of the story too, it's, I think he
- 57:44Speaker 1: was just frustrated. He completely fumbled the situation, which I
- 57:47Speaker 1: think he's done. And then to go radio silent for
- 57:50Speaker 1: three weeks in the summer.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Which he denies, we should say.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Yeah, which he's denying. That's just, that's what the same
- 57:57Speaker 1: source thinks. We never denied the number. So obviously the
- 58:00Speaker 1: source is legit. Why would he lie about the time
- 58:03Speaker 1: that they didn't talk? There was radio silence for three
- 58:06Speaker 1: fucking weeks. You still haven't signed your star goalie. So
- 58:08Speaker 1: what's going to happen? Is this going to get drawn
- 58:10Speaker 1: out to December 1st? That could happen. That's crazy. Which
- 58:14Speaker 1: would be crazy because if at that point he doesn't sign,
- 58:17Speaker 1: he has to sit out the full season. Is there
- 58:20Speaker 1: a situation like that in the NFL where if your
- 58:22Speaker 1: deal's not done by a certain game?
- 58:23Speaker 2: You said week 10 to me earlier. I asked him
- 58:26Speaker 2: this earlier.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Oh, week 10?
- 58:27Speaker 4: No, I have no clue.
- 58:28Speaker 2: I think Big Cat said it.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Big Cat might have said that.
- 58:30Speaker 3: I'm not sure. There's only been a few situations where
- 58:32Speaker 3: guys have sat out the entire year. There's a cutoff
- 58:35Speaker 3: where you have to sit out.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Who was the biggest player to ever be like, no,
- 58:39Speaker 1: not enough. I'm not playing this year.
- 58:40Speaker 3: I mean, there was Le'Veon Bell.
- 58:42Speaker 2: He didn't play the whole year?
- 58:43Speaker 4: He didn't play an entire year.
- 58:45Speaker 2: And it didn't work out?
- 58:45Speaker 3: No. The only person I've ever heard of.
- 58:47Speaker 2: He was in a boxing match, too, for, like, short money,
- 58:50Speaker 2: wasn't he, too?
- 58:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:51Speaker 3: And, bro, he was the man, for real. Like, he
- 58:53Speaker 3: was the man.
- 58:54Speaker 1: He was him? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:55Speaker 2: He got bad advice.
- 58:56Speaker 3: He's such a unique style of player, too. He just, like,
- 58:59Speaker 3: sat behind his line and kind of just looked around
- 59:00Speaker 3: a little bit, then went.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Read it, and then, boom, powers of the cheetah.
- 59:03Speaker 3: And that's, like, a weird way to play.
- 59:05Speaker 1: But he was so effective.
- 59:06Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say. Trent Williams is
- 59:08Speaker 3: the only player off the top of my head that
- 59:10Speaker 3: took a year off and came back and you're like, yeah,
- 59:13Speaker 3: he's still him.
- 59:14Speaker 4: Still the fucking man. He sat out a year, didn't
- 59:15Speaker 4: accept the salary. Did he get what he was looking for? No,
- 59:20Speaker 4: I mean, I'm saying that year he lost his salary,
- 59:22Speaker 4: but because he hated how Washington kind of bought some
- 59:25Speaker 4: of his surgeries.
- 59:25Speaker 2: Is that the guy in San Francisco now?
- 59:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:28Speaker 2: He's like the best offensive lineman in the league?
- 59:30Speaker 3: To me, T.V. Trent Williams is the greatest offensive lineman
- 59:32Speaker 3: in the history of the game. He's the number one
- 59:35Speaker 3: player ever. He's a 99 guy in the NFL.
- 59:37Speaker 2: I appreciate that, having that be your position.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Yeah, he's the man, dude.
- 59:41Speaker 1: And it's like the same guy you're talking about who
- 59:43Speaker 1: sat out a year? Yeah. He's one of the best?
- 59:46Speaker 3: I think he's on the Mount Rushmore of offensive line.
- 59:49Speaker 4: Wow.
- 59:50Speaker 3: He's got to be.
- 59:51Speaker 1: Another guy who's probably on the Mount Rushmore, if not
- 59:54Speaker 1: the best, was that Aaron Donald?
- 59:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 59:57Speaker 1: Was he the best pass rusher of all time?
- 59:59Speaker 4: Such an argument. Yeah, he's arguably the best defensive player
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: of all time.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Who was the other guy that people would say?
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: You have Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White. Reggie White was a monster, bro.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: I said it before him.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: What made Aaron Donald so effective? He was just this
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: massive human that pounced so fast.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: How great he was in the short amount of time
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: that he played. How many years did he act?
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Nine.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Or he played one more year than me.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: But I'm saying somebody like that, he could have played
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: at least 15.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: And showed no signs of stopping. No signs of slowing down.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. It's like Megatron for the Lions.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: He just was like, I'm the best. Why did he
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: shut it down?
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: That's it?
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: The way he phrased it is, he's like, I've achieved
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: everything I could possibly achieve in this game. I've given everything.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: I'm topped out of giving everything.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: And I did it all.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I'm ready to move on.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Bro, from the minute he stepped on the field, he
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: was a Pro Bowl All-Pro guy. From the minute.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Of rookie year?
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: He was the 13th overall pick my year, was defensive
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: rookie of the year, and then went on nine straight
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Pro Bowls after that, and I think six All-Pros.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Three defensive player of the years.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: What?
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: It might be two. Dog, I'm telling you, like.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Just a- He was the guy for 10 years.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: For 10 years, and it was like, he played three
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: technique for the most part, so that's on the guards,
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: so tackle, guard, center. I don't want to sound disrespectful.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: No, no, no. I'm just trying to explain it.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Like, and I would, when we would play the Rams,
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: whether they're in St. Louis or in LA, you just
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: look at the guards throughout the week and you're like,
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: you poor motherfuckers. And then this motherfucker starts playing on
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: the edge every once in a while. I'm thinking, God
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: damn it.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Did he ever get you?
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: Did he ever burn you?
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: No, he never got me. But he would, it's very different.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Like there's, with rushers, it's very unique for a guy
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: to be able to play multiple spots. A guy like
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: TJ Watt, he's on the right tackle. He's one of
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: the most effective all-time rushers of all time. His brother
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: JJ could go tackle, guard, center, guard, tackle. And that
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: is so hard to game plan because he essentially goes
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: down the line at the beginning of the game, figure
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: out who's got the gifts that day.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Who's the weak guy? No way!
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: He fucking takes them out the whole day.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Oh no!
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: And so you get like, My rookie year, I got
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: tested by JJ and luckily I had some success.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: No shit.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: And I was like.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Stayed away.
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: He kind of stayed away after that. I was like,
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: thank God. Because the dude was a fucking stud. And
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: he would just go find one guy. And then after
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: the first quarter.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Where's Watt in that conversation? Top 20 all time?
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Oh, he's top 20 for sure. Top 20 defensive lineman
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: of all time.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Someone at Barstool told me, sorry to interrupt, but quickly,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: you'd appreciate this, that Christian McCaffrey might retire way sooner
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: than people think.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: Why?
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: Oh, man. We need him, man. I would love, yeah.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: It was a straight up rumor, but I was like, what?
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. But I
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: got a source at Barstool, so.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: Yeah, but Barstool's got crazy sources. They've gotten, that's like
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: the most insane place to grab a source.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: No, I don't.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: That might be crazier than the Taylor Swift getting paid
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: by the NFL.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: Hey, honestly, I was ready to give that legs. I
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: was ready to give that legs. Yeah, I think that's
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: a fun conspiracy theory.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, he's a great white hope, dude. I
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: guess I don't know if I would be surprised. Like,
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: I know he's battling with an Achilles right now. He
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: just flew.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: To Germany to talk to a specialist.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: He's had a lot of injuries, right?
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: No, not really.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Or maybe it was another country, but he's overseas.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: I think he's been hurt a couple times.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: When he was at Carolina, I think he had a
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: resurgence of health when he went to 49ers. I could
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: be messing that up.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: You know who I love from that Panthers team was
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: that linebacker, the white guy.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Luke Kuechly.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Dude, that guy would seem like the best guy ever.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: If Will were to stand up right now, he'd be
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: hard as a rock. That's his key.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Oh, that's your guy?
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: I love Kuechly. He didn't get to play as long
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: as he wanted to or everybody else wanted him to. Yeah,
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: he ended up retiring.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: From concussions. But he legitimately could have been, like, the
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: best linebacker of all time. I mean, Ray Lewis has
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: an insane resume, but Luke was somebody who was.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: His brain, though, right? He would see the play before
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: it happened.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: And he was nails, though. He was nails, too, right?
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Bro, he would.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Now, I'm going to be talking some foreign language.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I love this shit.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: But I remember a Dallas game, and it was on Thanksgiving,
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: I believe. And, bro, they're playing Tampa 2. And when
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: you're a Tampa 2 middle linebacker, you're the middle runner.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: So you're taking it all the way down the pipe.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: Bring it down a little deeper.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Do you know what I.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Yes. I know exactly what you're saying.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: Okay, cover 2?
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: So your collisions are going to be hard.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: So my cover 2, I'm pass first. I'm a pass
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: first linebacker. And I'm running down the middle of the
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: field to have the highest route.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Oh, I thought it was running towards the line.
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: I thought it was running towards the line. Off the snap,
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: they had trips to one side, so three receivers. He
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: runs up the middle. The three guy, the one he's
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: closest to, runs down the pipe, so he is supposed
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: to run with him. But he starts off deep enough
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: to where he knows the quarterback's eyes. He's going to
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: check it and then go to different color because he
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: already sees that it's Tampa 2. Keeley's already on top.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: I'm going to go to my next read. he baits
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: this deep dagger from the outside receiver. He leaves the
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: middle of the field and just, I mean, not guesses, but.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: But he knew it was going there.
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: Yeah, he knew it was coming.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Picked it?
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: He knew that he baited the middle of the field
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: and he took off and picks the dig route and
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: takes it back for six.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: That's like a quarterback.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Yeah, bro.
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: And then if you're playing cover four and you got
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: to carry.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: That's like Ed Reed type stuff too, right?
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Ed Reed was good at that.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: But he was a safety, right? Yeah, so a linebacker
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: doing this sounds crazier.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: I think he broke down a play exactly like you
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: just talked about in a baiting sense because he watched
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: so much tape that he knew that if he faked it.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: Situationally, whether it was third down, whatever, he knew that
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: that play was coming. And then if you're in cover
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: four and you've got to carry a receiver, so you're
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: kind of running to where When the ball's up, you're
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: more so like looking at their eyes and playing their hands.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you got your back to the QB. You got
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: your back to the quarterback.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: You're kind of underneath because, again, in cover four, you're
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: more below the three receiver. But he was so good
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: that a guy like me, you're trying to read the
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: eyes and play through the hands because you're probably not
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: going to be able to turn around and make a
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: play when you're behind a receiver. He was good enough
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: to where he turns and picks the ball off.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Instead of just trying to knock it down from him
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: catching it.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. A series after that pick six that I
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: just explained.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: No shit.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: Yeah, bro.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Back-to-back series.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: Yeah. He was a legend.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Did he make plenty of money, hopefully?
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. $ 50 million?
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: $ 60 million?
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: But the thing about Luke that was so impressive- He seems.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Like he ain't spending it either. Yeah. He's probably driving
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: a Volvo.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Yeah. He did have a lot of concussions, but- He
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: was so physical in the beginning part of his career.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: And then once he started to have more head stuff,
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: you could see him playing with his hands way more.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: Equally as effective. Equally able to shed blocks.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Yeah, transition his game.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: Yeah, to go from that rookie to vet and be
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: more effective with less.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: He played at Boston College, right?
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: Yeah, and he had the record of tackles there.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: So once again, I still don't know a ton about football.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: There was this old school running back. I think he
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: was a white guy too for the Tampa Bay.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Mike Allstott. He was a fullback.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I'll be scrolling through Insta sometimes and there'll be like
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: a highlight clip of him. Every time I'll sit there
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: and watch it.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: He had the big brace on his neck.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: Killing people, yeah.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: He was fucked. Was he on the juice and shit?
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: What was wrong with that?
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: Who knows? You talking about his playing days? It seemed
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: like they had late nights, woke up early for workouts.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: He was part of an old school generation.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: He's a classic cat that looks at everybody playing now
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: and goes, man, this generation is so soft.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: We had him on the pod and he was saying that.
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: He's like, yeah, I think your generation is soft.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Sorry, sir.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: You're right, though.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Sorry about the question.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: Mr. Allstott, I agree.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: I got a hose, boys. What do I do?
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: You hose and then when you come back, I'll go hose.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Unless you guys want to end this thing. Where were
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: you guys?
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: We're at an hour right now.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Sure. Is that good enough? I would just sign off.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: I would, since we have you both on.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: You want to just sign off? I think we're going
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: to end it.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: No, hang on.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Just go.
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: He'll go pee real quick.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Okay, sure.
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: I think, too, like, since we've had each of you
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: on individually, but having you both on collectively, like, you
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: guys had us on and, you know, taught the audience
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: about our story. Like, I would like to ask how
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: you guys kind of got everything rolling. Yeah. I met
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: with like his perspective because he was still playing, right?
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: Or you were playing.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: So from the podcast perspective, we should pin that till
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: it gets back so they can bounce off each other though.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you my side is, well, he got
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: drafted by the Penguins fifth overall a year or two
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: after I was drafted fourth round. So we ended up
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: in the same organization. He played a lot more in
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: the NHL, but the first year that I'd cracked the lineup,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: I got to play, you know, uh, I was there
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: for 26 games. So I got to hang out with
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: them and like, Never really connected with him that much
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: in training camp, but he's just this fucking silly bastard
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: from Boston. And through that short period of time we connected, um,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: he ended up getting traded off. I played with his
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: good friend, Keith Yandel. We kind of kept in touch
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: and then somehow ended up on a PTO together, like
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: a player tryout in St. Louis towards the back half
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: of our career. When I, like I never played another
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: NHL game after that prior, that prior season. Yeah. So
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: we were there on the PTO and we were just
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: going to every meal together and hanging out and going
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: out to the bar and having some beers. And we
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: talked about this concept of creating a show together where
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: you'd show up to the arena with your hockey bag,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: you'd crack it open in the hockey locker room and
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: you'd have a six pack. You'd never eventually put your
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: gear on. You just sit there and tell stories and
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: you'd have different guests on. And we thought the idea
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: of like a YouTube show. So fast forward, I was
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: still playing for another three years. He retired and he
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: tweeted out like, Hey, how about starting a podcast with
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: a couple of guys, one of me being on it.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: And I messaged him. I said, Hey, I'm not going
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: to hang them up yet. And I can't start a
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: podcast because I know how I am and I'll let
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: it fly. And I'll be fucking getting snipped before I
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: know it. And, um, he started one with, with rear
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Admiral and then Grinnelli hopped on board. And by the
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: time I retired and then did a film project and
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: got one year of media under my belt and had
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: been a guest on their show, spitting chiclets and He
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: was like, Hey man, like I talked to Grinnell, I
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: talked to RA and we think that because you've been
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: on in such a popular guest, you should come on
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: full time. And it was the original idea. Like you
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: were one of the original guys. And so I'm like, yeah, like, and,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and by the time I finished that first season and
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: had that under my belt of doing radio, um, uh,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: color commentary for the coyotes, I, I agreed to it.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: And the rest is history. I'd already had a Twitter
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: base of a million people. So I also thought because
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I was comfortable on the mic and I already had
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: an audience, it kind of just helped it grow that
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: much more significantly right off the hop where all of
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: a sudden the people who were following me on Twitter, like, oh,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: this guy's got a mic in his hands now all
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: the time and he's letting it fly about anything.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I'll go listen to that. So I think at the
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: time they were averaging probably what, like 30 to 50,000
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: listeners per.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: I would have no idea.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Yeah. And it was, and then all of a sudden
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: it exploded. It just, we gained momentum and then. after
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: getting maybe 150,000 listeners on average, we were able to
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: get our former teammate in Pittsburgh, Crosby in Halifax. And
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: then we got Nathan McKinnon on that same trip. So
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: we had these big milestone moments along with creating more
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: vertical brands like the sandbagger. And it's just evolved over
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: the last, I think it's been six and or seven years,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: at least seven since I retired. So it's been magical
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: and it's been unreal and it's been a fun ride.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: And more importantly, like, we get to stay around the
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: game and have a purpose when we wake up every day.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Like we talked about earlier, like bringing these awesome interviews
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: and getting to talk to these awesome guys and bringing
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: the fans a more exclusive inside look, like feeding what
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: they want. So that was my rendition of how it
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: all went down. And I don't know what you'd have
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: to say about it, Witty, now that you're back from Hosen.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: I told this story on the first time I came
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: on the bus. It's pretty much exactly the same thing.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: And it's like, timing's everything. Every time I meet somebody
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: that asks about the pod, It's like timing's everything in life.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: You gotta get lucky. Podcasts, as this thing began, I
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: didn't even know what a podcast was, really. They were
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: so early. Did you try to start it now? It's
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: just not, you know, it's not the same. We were lucky.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: We were, I'm not gonna say we were first, but
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: we were early on. So timing's everything. He retires. He
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: doesn't get in it right away. And like, who knows? Like,
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: then I started with R.A., right? Maybe he wouldn't have
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: been in it had he already been retired. So like, boom,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: then you got R.A. involved in it. And then, The
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: way we met Grinnelli, our audio broke. Me and RA,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: one of the episodes sat this close to each other,
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: shared a microphone and the audio ended up breaking or
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: that might've been a different story. Either way, RA got
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: an email that night.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: No, he'd gotten it a few weeks prior and ignored it.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: And then, and then.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: From Grinnell.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Whatever the receiver system RA had, it was janky. It
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: was RA and like, you know, he just had it
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: at his house. Like this was mom and pop style. Right.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: And when it, when it broke, they, the episode was
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: obviously wasted. They've been talking into a mic for 50
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: minutes and nothing was being recorded. I'm sure, I'm sure
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: Whit was thrilled, but that's when RA was like, Oh,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: that kid reached out. And then boom, like Grinnell got
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: the opportunity.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: And he's done. And Grinnell's evolved and learned so much.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: And it's just been an incredible experience. And, uh, like
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Whit said, very much a timing thing because podcasts weren't
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: that popular and, you know, I'm not saying we were
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the first hockey podcast, but we were the first one
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: that I think that a lot of people had heard
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: of just because of the reach that we had. And,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: and also chemistry was important and fuck me, you know,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: being in St. Louis, hanging out with you. I think
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: that we kind of understood that we were very much alike.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: And I once I play with Keith Yandel who played
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: a thousand over a thousand games. He's the iron man,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: another funny bastard from Boston. We're going to get him
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: more involved in our podcast this year and.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: He's one of my closest friends from home that then
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: played with Biz and they became buddies. So I also,
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: he had been such good friends with Keith and I
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: had met him first. So then we get in St.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Louis.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: I'm like, we just like, we're true good friends. And
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: so it's like, this makes it a lot easier. We
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: also have honest conversations with each other too. Like you guys,
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: I'm sure it's like, that's being like good friends. Like
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: you got to be honest about everything. And we have
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: been for the show and for like us.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Yeah. And, and I also like moving forward, it's, it would, I,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: we talked about the like building vertical, like we've done,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: we've done game notes where arm Colby Armstrong and Merle's
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: two of our buddies who we also used to play
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: with in the Pittsburgh system. Like army was already doing
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: media and television. Merle's kind of got into it from
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: the gambling side, but it's awesome. And, and brings a
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: whole different opinion and flair to, so they have their
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: own like sister podcasts and they're going to keep evolving.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Like I, Yans is going to get more involved with
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: us where maybe when Kevin Hayes, his best friend, another
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: player retires, they kind of come on board and we
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: kind of want to make it, we kind of want
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: to make it where we're all just snapping it around
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: and get to travel around together and we just have
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: this awesome whack pack where we're kind of back on
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: a team. You know, it's not just me, Witt, R.A.,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: and Grinnell where there might be stories or relationships or
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: experiences that Colby Armstrong, Merles, Yans have that are going
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: to be different than us and we want to the
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: hockey fans and fans of any sport to, to, to
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: embrace all of it. So that's kind of where I
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: would like to see it continue to branch out and grow.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: But for the most part, everything we got going on
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: right now, I couldn't be more thrilled about. That's fucking awesome.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: That was a very long-winded answer about what we go on.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: Yeah, but it was nice. You painted a good picture
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: to where you're like, damn, it is kind of dope
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: what they're doing.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: Right, right, right, right.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: Because you see, there's obviously a lot of similarities between
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: you two and Will and I.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Would you guys ever bring on other NFLers as a
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: part of the boss?
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: I mean, we rock with Delaney Walker. Yeah, Delaney Walker's
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: our guy. He does the locker room with us, our
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: gambling show. Okay, so- And then he'll pop on the
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: bus on spots, but- Yeah. I mean, we've definitely talked
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: about stuff like that before, like scaling out the business. Yeah.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: That to me is like, you know, I was in
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: a dark place. Um, when I, when I, my last
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: year in the NHL, after I left that PTO, I
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: didn't have a deal. I couldn't even get an American
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: hockey league deal. And I was like literally depressed on
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: the couch to the point where like my muscles were
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: sore and I'd never been like that before. So to
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: kind of get somebody in the LA organization to extend
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: an olive branch. And for me to go on and
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: win a Calder cup, I just kind of feel like
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: I would want to keep doing that to my buddies and, and,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: and give them that opportunity to where they can do
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: it and have something after hockey too. So it's going
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: to be cool. I think it's going to keep happening
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: for us and I really look forward to it. And
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: like I said, I'm very grateful for everything we have.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Would you ever want to coach? So it's funny you
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: say that. I was going to ask in this interview,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: both of you, who do you think would make the
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: better coach? I think that there's a possibility down the
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: road that I would, I would love to, but it's
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: also like, you got to start out at a lower level.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: And by then at 45, 50, what do I really
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: want to ride the bus to all these games? Like,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I think after this is all said and done, I
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: think I'm going to probably want to go chill, but
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: you never know. I think that maybe would you win?
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I mean, you are with your son.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Yeah, my son's first year might, like, six turning seven.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: It's fun also at that age, though. It's tough. Like,
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: you know, six- and seven-year-olds, eight-year-olds are not great listeners.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: But I would love someday, like, you get to, like, 15, 16,
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: and you see, like, legit, like, passion for the game. Yeah.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: High school. Yeah. Like, this is, like, not a pipe dream,
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: but such a long way from ever happening. But I
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: could see myself liking it. NHL, AHL, pro. No chance.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: These coaches are watching.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: You don't think you could be a D coach at
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: BU or would you want to?
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: That's something that would be really, really cool to do.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: It would be really, really cool to do. I think
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: that you could do that and balance that. But like
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: not right now while I'm also doing this. But like someday.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: But yeah, that's something that's sick. But that's like those
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: are good coaches making a ton of money. They've done
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: it their whole life. Like that's hard. High school, you
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: could more help out maybe because I played in the NHL.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: But that's also like all of a sudden you go
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: to a high school coach. Your son's trying out. You're like, hey,
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: I'll help out a coach. He's like, buddy, take a
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: fucking hike.
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: Do it for your kid.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: It's more like when they're a little older before they
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: get into high school hockey or something would be cool.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: I actually said recently, sometimes it's hard. They mention how
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: young they are. But I'm like, oh, I don't know
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: if I want to do this. But you're like, you
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: know what? I don't know anything about anything besides hockey. Like,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: it was my life. So I'm giving back to the
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: game if I got a bunch of young kids and
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: even one of them at the end of the season
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: at eight years old loves, not just as a better player,
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: but loves hockey. Like I'm giving back to the game
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: and coaching the NHL, coaching the NHL. You are watching
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: video like you were describing all day long and the
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: travel and it's, it's not for me.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: Just constantly breaking stuff down. To answer your question, Biz,
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: I think Will would be in– not just a good–
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: I think he'd be an elite coach.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: I appreciate that, bro.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: Yeah, the way you talk about plays.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Would he be an NFL coach of your positions.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: Or like a– I think Will– yeah. I think very
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: highly of Will when it comes to the coaching category.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: I'm talking about real success.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: Where he's managing all of the other coaches too? Oh, yeah.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: Head coach.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: How to handle a team.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Wow. Fucking hairy knuckles, buddy. Yeah.
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: So if you look at Will's career, and I'll gas
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: the boy up for a minute.
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: Don't get weird.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: I was going to say.
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: Like, neck up guy. Like, the reason why Will made
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: it so long in the league is it was because
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: of what he was able to process in his brain.
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: And he's taken all that, and he does a great–
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: he's like a– he does a very good job painting
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: a picture for you, even in telling stories or any
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: type of situations. I know he can do that from
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: a player standpoint, telling players where they need to have
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: their eyes and coverages and stuff like that, and really
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: does a good– like he loved like he like you
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: ever play werewolf no you ever play the game mafia
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: it's a card game where you're like essentially there's two
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: bad guys and the rest of us are trying to
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: figure out who the bad guys are it's a game
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: of strategy kid loves strategy loves the game of risk
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: like understands like the chess pieces that have to be
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: made likable cat easily, easily could be a fantastic coach.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Would you do it?
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: I don't know about you as a coach, but I
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: don't want to play you in Battleship board game the
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: way he's describing it.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: Yeah, holy shit.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: He's the second best wrist player I've ever seen.
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: I was going to say, we have some fun nights
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: playing wrist.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: You know what's funny?
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: I've got to hold this quick.
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: Is that NHL, you've seen a lot of examples or
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: maybe more examples of the grinder, of the guy who
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: worked his dick off to get there and was maybe
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: a fourth or a third line player. I'm not dogging
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: you anyways, but those are the guys where it's like
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: a superstar, like Luke Kuechly. This is just an example,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: but maybe the game was so easy to him, it's
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: harder to coach. Whereas a lot of third-line NHLers that
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: were smart and not just superstars with their skill, they
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: make the best coaches.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: Yeah, because they understand.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Maybe it's like NFL where you grinded, right? And you
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: had to know so much about the game to be successful,
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: like he's saying. Yeah.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: No, that's an interesting perspective.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: I could see you being a legendary high school football coach.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: Coach on high school football, listening to you talk about
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: giving back to the game and stuff like coaching high
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: school football would be so fun. Even the Little League,
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: the way you was just explaining the Little League kind
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: of juiced me up.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: It's not even about getting better. Like, yeah, if the
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: kid's way better in March as opposed to September, sick.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: But if he in March is like, I love hockey. Right.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: That's where you're like, dude, this is awesome.
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: Yeah, when you said that, too, it was like they
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: love the game more. They want to watch it and
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: consume it more.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Because we love the game.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: It's like that would fire you up. Yeah. No, I
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: like that. I don't know if I would in college
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: or anything. I've talked with Taylor about it. Yeah, we've
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: talked a lot about it.
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: Go ahead, Will.
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: I was just going to say, I would love to
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: because it's at the highest level. And I do love
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: the strategy.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: Like formulating, like learning defense, hearing from the coaches, kind
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: of teach it, understanding what the weaknesses are, what do
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: you want to show in offense. Like I love that stuff.
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: I just don't know time commitment-wise if I necessarily, you know,
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: should and need to do it.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: Because those guys– You got to be all in, dude.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: You got to be all in. And not that– like
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: a lot of them have great families, but the family
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: life to me just doesn't seem like– It's crazy, man.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: The family life is crazy. NFL, NFL. It's nuts. You
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: hear about head coaches and you hear about, like, they
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: don't see their family.
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: Never.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: And even as players, like, you have hardly any time
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: during the season. And their hours are way worse.
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: I was just saying, yeah, their hours are way crazier
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: than ours.
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: Like, for me, there is zero, like, I have zero
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: aspiration to coach anything.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and part of that is probably, like, I have
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: a lot of money and it's.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: Like, i'm sure i i don't know what i don't know.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: You know what i don't know i just have too
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: many fucking o's in my bank account and i'm filthy
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: rich there's not a chicken dicks chance i'm coaching.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: I just can't i just can't see it man to
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: me it's like if you're able yeah there's probably a
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: a piece of that i get infatuated with the idea
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: of so many other other avenues of life to live
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: to where like okay i've done football i wonder what
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: else i could be really good.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: At yeah that's what i'm like that's why i that's
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: why like you asked about coaching, it would be, it
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: would be another challenge and I would like, but there's
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: also a lot of other things in this world that
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: I think I'm going to want to try to go
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: do when I'm like, when I'm 45 to 50 and
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: then retire, I might, but then you might get bored
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: of that too. And then come back to what, you know,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: but like, what are some other things that you would
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: like to explore? Like, I would like to get one
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: of those, um, uh, those earth roamers, and like go
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: drive to through South America and like go hiking and
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: go like, like a year trip where you just kind
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: of dial out and get the fuck away. Once we
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: would retire from being on like this every day on
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: fucking Twitter and all the fucking bullshit and all the business.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: And then like, would you want to eventually just kind
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: of like check out for like a year's time where
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: you're like, fuck off phone. Yeah.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: And just essentially be like that.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: No, no desire.
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: I have, I have desire to be checked out of
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: the phone and stuff, but I, I would never want
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: to just travel for a year.
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: Yeah, for a year.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: I like being home. I love going on a couple trips.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: Well, you would be. You'd just be living out of
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: an RV.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so basically I don't want to live in your
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: earth room.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: Would you ever do something like that?
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: I probably would.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: You seem like more of a wild man.
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: It's weird because we were in Montana this year. We
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: were doing Meat Eater. It's like a hunting podcast.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: Me, Will, and JP sat and had a conversation about
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: like we're in Bozeman, but like this kind of local
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: spot in Bozeman. And everything's slower. Everything's moving at a
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: way slower pace.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: It's unbelievable.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: And we're having this conversation like, hey, wouldn't it be
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: sick to essentially tell yourself it's okay to slow down?
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: And Will was having aspirations that JP was. And I
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: was like, no. I want to keep fucking going. I
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: couldn't see myself doing it. And then this summer, I
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: went to Canada with my wife. And it was the
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: first time in my adult life that I sat back
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: and I was like, this is fucking nice.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: This is nice.
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: This is actually... I don't got... I don't have to
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: do anything. I'm hanging out. I'm taking my kids to
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: do X, Y, and Z. I talked about my seven-year-old,
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: how I walked in her room. When she's getting seven,
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: you just kind of realize they're just getting older.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: It's not slowing down at all. It's happening so quick.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: Because there's a piece of me that would love to
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: go into the entertainment aspect to see if I could act.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Oh, I love doing it. I love doing
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: silly stuff.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: I always tell Fizz I think he could act.
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: If RA can do it.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: Yeah. You know? Yeah. Well, Ari's a great. Ari's a thespian.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a thespian.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: I actually want to, I want to hit Shorzy because
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: it's like my, one of my favorite shows.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: You want to get a cameo on there?
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: I would love it.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: But all that to be said, like after that trip
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: in Canada, I was like, you know what I want
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: to do is I want to be able to like,
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: when we hang it up, like just be like the
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: ultimate dad and get my, I want to get my
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: pilot's license. get a small little plane, rip the family.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Yeah, be able to rip around.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: Just go rip around and kind of do whatever. Like
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: if I can mentally get to that state, I think
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: that's the best way of growth.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: That is awesome.
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Because you want to, we can all go, we've all
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: put ourselves in a position to go achieve any goal
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: we want because we've, you know, we have the financial
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: freedom and now we get to do this and this
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: opens more and more doors. But the ability to say
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: no and being like.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's what I'm trying to learn. Yeah. That's
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: kind of where I'm at.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: That's something that kind of messes me up mentally is like,
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: I really enjoyed that time. I really had a great
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: time with my family. I thought that was so awesome.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: I was like, how do I expand on that more
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: and kind of like just fully immerse myself in that.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: You feel yourself always chasing something. Always a jump on
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: your shoulder about whatever thing.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: I don't have that feeling.
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: You do or don't?
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: No, you're good. Witt's really good about balance. He's really good.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: I don't have that feeling at all. And I think
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: sometimes it'd be helpful to have it more.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: We lost the camera.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Oh, that's okay.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: No, no, no, not at all.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: We should hang it up soon.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: We gotta get the Twisted Question.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll do Twisted Question, but I want to talk
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: Shorzy for a second.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: I've never watched it. Yeah.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Yeah, we're still good.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: Sorry about that, guys.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: That's okay. No stress at all.
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: Sorry about that, guys. So yeah, Shorzy.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: R.A.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: Obviously wasn't the last two seasons. Have you guys been
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: reached out to at all about being on that show?
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: No. So I actually got asked to do Letter Kenny
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: early days.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: God, that'd have been sick.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and I got the role of like, basically I
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: was just like ripping lines and I was a maniac.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: And so basically myself, a method actor, at least at
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: that time. And then the Coyotes, it was my first
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: year and I hadn't even been on the podcast yet.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: And I put it across my boss's desk and he said, no,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: you can't. Like the team would basically fire me and
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: then I'd be out of a job. So that was
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: a missed opportunity. And then it kind of just never
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: really came back up because they had the spinoff show.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: But fortunately for a guy, Terry Ryan, who we have
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: on the podcast all the time, he's 10 Hitchcock.
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: Oh, for real?
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that, that Jared Kiso kind of learned
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: the legend of Terry Ryan through our podcast. I may
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: be mistaken. That's at least what Terry Ryan says. So
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: there have been people from our podcast, including RA who
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: have touched the show. I would be honored to be asked.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I don't know what my character or what I would
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: do on it, but yeah, I would, I would love
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: to do that. And Witt's good too. We did that
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: McDavid commercial for body armor and you were fucking 10
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: out of 10 and you're really good at ad-libbing.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: Thanks, bro.
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: That's nice.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: We did a Pink Whitney commercial that played like during
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: the NHL playoffs. I'm talking time for harder shot three
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: times a game for four months and people were like
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: yeah it's like get these guys off my fucking enough
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: of these two but it was a pink whitney.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Commercial or paul missed.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Dude i remember it was it was it was probably
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: buddy that was the line that was the line.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: But That was the line?
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Buddy, three or four times every single game, all playoffs long,
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: people wanted me dead. People wanted me dead.
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: There's a huge, there's a huge miss for you not, well,
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: them not reaching out to you about Shorzy, like being
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: a legitimate part of that cast. No, I, but I.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: The whole thing was washed up, like washed up hockey players.
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: Just let's bring a bunch of vets, savvy vets in.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: And have him play.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I, I just, it just didn't work out
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: for timing. I don't think it was.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: I think I said football players.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: Hockey players.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: Yeah. No worries. No worries. Yeah. It just didn't work out,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: but they've done such a good job. Like Jarek, he's
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: a legend and like he lives up, I think North
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: of Montreal with his, um, with his wife. I think
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: he's got a kid or two and he just writes
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: these scripts and he has his own team and he
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: executes it. Like there's so much time and energy that
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: goes into that shit. And, And I think that they
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: just signed a deal where they're going to be doing
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: at least two or three more seasons after this one
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: they're currently filming. So he's a G.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: His talent, his creativity is impressive.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: It's so impressive.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: It all spun off of Letter King.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: To write, produce, act, star.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: I think the world of Jerry Keyes.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Oh, have you met him?
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: No, but from him and his craft.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: Oh, he would love you. I bet you he would
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: give you a part in the show. Well, I want
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: to earn it. Oh, yeah.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: I'm going to read you, Jared.
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: Oh, also, what is the vibe in Canada looking at
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: hockey players in America?
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: They respect us now.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. What about way more now? It was starting,
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: but in, like, the 70s, there was not much. And then,
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: all of a sudden, this generation of players in the
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: NHL came in. Yeah, not even then, though. Like, 1980, that...
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: It's because the NHL was mostly Canadian stars, you know,
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: and USA hockey is just built.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: And built and built. And the growth of it in
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: the United States where all of a sudden like Dallas,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: when did Dallas get there? Around like 97, 98? 95, 96.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: Maybe 95.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: So all of a sudden now that they have a
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: youth program, they have former players that love Dallas, no
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: state tax, made all this money down there and they
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: get to live in a nice place in the States. Well,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: they're helping coach now. It's just like there's just so
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: many more American kids playing and who have access to
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: the game and access to even unreal Canadians who ended
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: up settling down in the States. So I would say
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: that going into the next Olympics, it's a coin toss.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: Like it could be U.S. or Canada who wins. We
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: have McDavid. We have McKinnon. We have Kale McCarr. But
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: the States still has guys like Matthews and Jack Hughes.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: Yeah, they probably have like highest-end talent. They got the guys,
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: three or four of them. Then we have maybe one
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: person right there, two people. But then when you go
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: after that, the depth, we're right there.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: It's right there.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: But they have McDavid and they have McKinnon and they
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: have Crosby. You know, Crosby's older, but McDavid and McKinnon.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: We have Matthews, but they got two of them.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: So it's amazing though. And now it's going to be
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: 2026 in Italy. We're going to try to go and
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: cover it. First best on best tournament in the Olympics
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: since 2014.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: So all of these stars for the past 10 years
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: have never played best on best in the Olympics.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Crosby and McDavid have never played together on Team
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: Canada best on best. And they'll have the opportunity at
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: the Four Nations, which is this year. It's almost like
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: a precursor to reintroduce best on best. There's only four teams,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: which sucks. But the Olympics, especially if they get Russia
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: back in the mix.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: They need Russia.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: They need Russia.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: Hockey gold medal, best on best.
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: I don't care if they're cheating. I don't care if
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: they're shoving needles up their arse. Put them in the Olympics.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: You just need them there.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: If you win a best on best Olympic gold medal
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: and like Russia's best team isn't in there, it's a
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: little bit of an asterisk.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: Where's Russia rank?
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: They're always a top four. Top four.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: Top five.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: So just give me the top five real quick. So
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: it's Canada, America, Russia.
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: Sweden, Finland, Russia.
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: Canada, Sweden, Finland. Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia, America.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: And then U.S. Those are the top five.
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: Fuck off, Fez.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: Oh, I thought you were saying the U.S. was fifth.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: No, no, not in that order. Those are the five. No,
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: absolutely not.
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: But Czech Republic's very good. Slovakia's getting better. Austria has
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: some players. Germany's getting better players. Norway has a couple players.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Denmark's okay.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: Denmark has a couple players. So it's growing. Now, it's
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: never going to be in South America. It's never going
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: to be in Africa.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: It's never going to be like soccer. I mean, football's
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: kind of similar. You're actually mostly North America, right?
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: We're pretty much America.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Hockey's a global game, but there are some areas that'll
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: just never happen.
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I wonder why the money's not bigger in hockey
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: because it is more global.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: Because TV, it's not amazing on TV.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: It's not transferable exactly like the NFL.
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: But it's going up.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: It's going.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: You have more people all over the world putting a
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: game on as opposed to.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: Amazon's going to end up picking it up full time.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: I'd imagine like we have sports also sports that in Canada,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: we have TSN in Canada, uh, TNT, ESPN, and who knows,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: maybe there's eventually another American network that does it's it's, uh,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: Gary Bettman and the NHL is doing it a better
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: job of it, giving it exposure. So I think revenues
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: are going to continue to soar. And I think the
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: league is in the best place it's ever been. And
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: you're going to see growth everywhere. I think exponentially in
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: the United States in the next 10, 15 years. And
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: I think that there's a strong chance that they end
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: up taking over as the top hockey nation, although it
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: might not be the most popular sport in the country.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: Canadians might scald me for saying that, but it comes
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: down to population, resources. The university programs are getting better. They're,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: I think, opening up. Anyway, I'm getting long-winded with it.
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: The U.S. is in good shape. I think that's a
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: good pod.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: That was a great pod.
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: First question, what do you think is more physical?
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: Football is way more physical.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Hockey or football? 82 games, more of a grind in
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: a sense, but yes, football.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: I think we're all in consensus there. Next one, Mike
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: Tyson or Mike Tyson that can skate or fight a
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: cougar that has never.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: Been on ice before. I'd choose the cougar. Sounds crazy,
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: but hopefully he keeps slipping on ice. If you tight turn,
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: maybe at some point he wears you down, but If
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: Tyson can fly and catch you, he's going to kill you.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: Well, I guess you could just kind of keep skating
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: away from the... It's a mountain lion?
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess so.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Just keep fucking juking it. Like, it'll tire it out
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: and eventually kind of quit on you.
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: And you can start using them skates as weapons, too, eventually.
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: That's a mountain lion.
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: I'd take the mountain lion as well.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: And then what was the third question?
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: Third one... Eyes? Yeah, man.
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: Are there more eyes or legs?
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: I was thinking eyes, too.
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: Because they have legs and eyes.
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Yeah, because flies got shitloads.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: Of eyes, huh?
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of them.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: Bees, bro.
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: Bees got a shitload of eyes.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: What's the answer?
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: It's eyes.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: We have to pick.
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: It's got to be eyes.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Eyes. Eyes.
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: Consensus all around. Boys, I hope you enjoyed this podcast.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: Great episode.
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: Thank you, guys.
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: You were everywhere. Thank you, guys.
