- 0:00another week another episode and here we are matters unfortunately died but we'll move
- 0:07on yeah he'll be
- 0:11missed welcome to multiple
- 0:14nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and
- 0:19Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 0:25Things nerdy
- 0:31a lot I think so you can resurrect anything these days so watch out what
- 0:38will happen next week speaking of of both resurrecting uh franchises and
- 0:43literal human beings from the dead um 28
- 0:47Days Later 28 Weeks Later and now soon
- 0:5228 years later they doing it um I think it could be interesting they were both
- 0:59good they were very different actually tonally quite different from each other
- 1:03like yeah 28 weeks I think is a very different movie and a different and I
- 1:06quite like I think I like 28 weeks more it was certainly more of a Hollywood
- 1:11movie less of an indie movie so they they each had their own you know the
- 1:15first one boasted it was the first feature film to be shot entirely on
- 1:18digital video when that still meant something second one I'm pretty sure
- 1:22they just shot on film because that's what they did back then so you know
- 1:26they've got a separate look for them each and um you know new cast and
- 1:30everything but it is like even the sequel was sort of an interesting
- 1:34premise like it you had the zombie outbreak and then they contained it and
- 1:39then what happened and then yeah yeah and if you go back there and you kind of
- 1:44go into that containment area then you're probably [ __ ] yes and so let's
- 1:49see how big of a containment area it is now yeah we joked about this at the time
- 1:54when they when they came up with 28 Weeks Later we were like what are they
- 1:57going to do one 28 years later they be like I remember those zombies 30 years
- 2:03ago well if you according to Star Wars logic that's how it works yeah 30 years
- 2:09ago you just completely forget the Jedi what are they yeah that's right yes
- 2:14exactly yeah yeah plus I mean 10 to 15
- 2:17years in um the sun on tne will turn you
- 2:21from uh looking like you and McGregor to
- 2:24looking like Alec Guinness well that's sort of true the sun is not kind too
- 2:31there two of the sons that is true two sons yeah yeah
- 2:35yeah I mean this is a a country a planet where you had to have literal moisture
- 2:40Farms to generate water so yeah okay maybe their Skin's just not at their
- 2:45best I'm just going to throw that why not not settle on a planet that you need
- 2:49to farm moisture yeah it's easy to say that though because I think that about
- 2:54huge regions of planet Earth like why do people live there like for example just
- 2:58to get top iCal but to stay completely non-political right now two groups of
- 3:03people are fighting over one of the shittiest pieces of desert on planet
- 3:07Earth right both say that it's theirs I say I'm just thankful I've never been
- 3:13there I don't think you can quite compare moisture fing on T to that I
- 3:18don't know man I don't have you seen this place it's just an arid desert I
- 3:24know it's symbolic and I know it's people's home I'm not I'm not dissing
- 3:28I'm not jumping in I'm not taking any sides I'm just saying you know it's not
- 3:32like they're fighting over I've lost you I'm not even going to continue down
- 3:39this but we move on so have you heard about we' spoke about the Florida
- 3:45Joker yes yeah and I think he's finally come to his senses and
- 3:51realized if they did make a character based on him this is a good thing for
- 3:55him yeah not only that hasn't he kind of
- 4:00based his image on an existing character
- 4:03anyway soing Joker yeah so the back up
- 4:08for new listeners this this guy he must be like a local I don't want to say
- 4:13celebrity personality he just a he went viral because of his mug shot right okay
- 4:19so not only okay so it was a mug shot and he is a convicted criminal
- 4:23yeah um but he has a tattooed face right yes yeah and then after the
- 4:30GTA 6 sort of uh trailer came out and there was a character that sort of like
- 4:35he then went and dyed his hair purple to make him look more like the character
- 4:39because head green and he's I'm gonna Sue first it was a million then it was
- 4:44two and then it's 10 million now he's he's gone let me just voice the
- 4:49character yeah because the thing is it's not to that game's not out yet right
- 4:55it's still yeah so if it was a problem they would just reskin that character to
- 5:00not look like him you know what I mean like the rockar for basing characters of
- 5:06them before like the famous Lindy Lohan one oh yes that was a GTA as well right
- 5:12yep GTA 5 she took him to court and lost and she was trying to claim that was it
- 5:18was weird there was there was s of two characters that she I think she was
- 5:22trying to claim with Bas off her one was in the loading screen there's just a
- 5:25girl in the Bikini doing the p and and if you recall that's what they do that's
- 5:30what the GTA games do they have generic
- 5:34stock characters in bikinis on their load screens and then there's another
- 5:40character that you sort of had to help get away from the paparazzi and but yeah
- 5:45they came out so yeah rockar know what they're doing I think this is fastest
- 5:48thing you can do because this will give him his extra 15 minutes of
- 5:51f yeah man I mean look the the premise of this is It's said in Florida and they
- 5:58seem to have taken a lot of these again I don't want to use the word influencers
- 6:03but people who have gone viral through
- 6:06videos of them doing dumb things it's a very strange
- 6:12State yeah I mean I'm assuming there's normal suburbs in Florida where people
- 6:17are just normal people and go to work and yeah what was your experience to
- 6:23Disneyland and stuff but there it just seemed like a normal place did you go to
- 6:27the beach did you go to what is that Beach what is that beach that you always
- 6:31see people like rollerblading along and uh in you know in their swimmers isn't
- 6:36that that's La isn't it that one the one oh there's yeah there's Venice Beach in
- 6:41La Florida beaches is where you see them just cracked full of people on spring break right
- 6:47right yeah Beach I'm not really down
- 6:51with my beaches to be honest um Florida beach I think it's just Florida Beach
- 6:58Florida beach yeah that makes okay
- 7:04straight right America's
- 7:09Wang and then yeah because yeah yeah only time I see is that when you're
- 7:13looking at Spring break break stories and yeah Pack full
- 7:17of yeah yeah yeah or videos of you know
- 7:21twerking out the window of a car and uh Florida Joker etc etc which they have
- 7:28replicated in the game but they've not been shy about that either they've
- 7:32they've basically said we are mimicking local personalities for this yeah that
- 7:38because a lot of the stuff in the trailer is like viral clips that have
- 7:41been out there like with crocodiles and alligators not crocodiles they got
- 7:46alligators there yeah yeah in the bayou
- 7:51yes so look I'm I can't wait for it to come out I know that you and Matt will
- 7:56get it play for about five minutes and then stop look the the GTA games that I've liked
- 8:02I've liked a lot and I've played like you know um Vice City San Andreas played
- 8:08all the way through um but since then I
- 8:12think a I'm just a bit bored playing
- 8:16kind of criminal underworld figures mob type characters I'm just a bit bored of
- 8:22that um Rockstar Games are always top quality
- 8:27but I prefer they're more thematic games like the red Deads and
- 8:34uh you know Red Dead was too Max P too
- 8:39Red Dead to was far too big amazing once you got into the game and you unlocked
- 8:45the far shelter areas and could do that that but it was also that made it a bit
- 8:50boring though because yeah well I didn't do a lot of f because I did like just
- 8:55riding the horse yeah that was when in the snow that just
- 9:00very long time yeah oh that intro if I was to ever play it again I'd try to see
- 9:05if I've got a save game just after that skip that yes because that you don't
- 9:10need that you do not need that great like oh yeah yeah but it again again
- 9:16yeah I don't want to do that again yeah I think Red Dead one which was a sequel
- 9:22of sorts I guess in and of itself of Red Dead Revolver but
- 9:28um it was the perfect length yeah uh I've I've criticized before that you
- 9:34kind of the basic missions that you start off
- 9:38to learn how to do things returned at the end and I thought that was a bit
- 9:43weird thematically it worked because you start off as a farm hand then you become
- 9:47a bandit and then eventually you become the master of your own property and it's
- 9:50got a very very cool ending but you do end up just fixing a lot of fences and
- 9:55stuff around your farm look I'm interest
- 9:58I'm cuz I will play I GTA 6 but I'm worried that they're going to focus a
- 10:04lot on their online because that's been their Cash Cow for so long and look I
- 10:10don't mind if they release stuff that's for online but allow me to play it
- 10:14single player as well how does the online work for GTA because I as like
- 10:19the only ones I've played are the older ones and I can't imagine how you would play those
- 10:26and if we had if we had if we had time and friends who also had time it could
- 10:33be quite fun because you sort of so we all play as multiple characters
- 10:36different characters or we all just play yeah you create your own character and
- 10:41create and then there's like different activities you can do like you can steal
- 10:44cars and then sell them on it's actually quite interesting but if you're not
- 10:49playing with people it's not that fun yeah yeah I think if they it' be nice if
- 10:55they could introduced like the heists I'd love to do the heists but you need
- 10:59people to do it with sure okay you've that sounds interesting that would be
- 11:03interesting literally stealing cars and swapping out VIN numbers selling them on
- 11:07doesn't sound too interesting to me but like you have to do like lots of little
- 11:10missions like go and steal this car park this bus here go get this go set stuff
- 11:16up do Recon like all of that sounds fun but you have to play with people yeah
- 11:22and it has to be in Florida well no we just one to remember
- 11:26GTA 5 is in CU I'm talking about five that's of course oh okay I'm more likely
- 11:32to play La well there's another Rockstar game that I like is LA Noir that was
- 11:36published by Rockstar right yes made in Australia by team bundai yeah who made
- 11:42one of the best games and then then they shut down yeah yeah I'll say though that
- 11:47does get a little repetitive after a while yes and also your choices don't
- 11:52actually matter no and actually the funny thing is you realize the choices
- 11:57don't matter as you're playing it because because you still progress
- 12:00anyway but then they weave that into the story in a strange way but much too late
- 12:06much too late in the game for you to spoiler alert for a game that came out
- 12:09ages ago sure this guy murdering these women but you arrest someone for each of
- 12:14the murders and then it comes out later it's like the May's nephew or something
- 12:19yeah so essentially you don't know it's a serial killer or your character kind
- 12:22of does your character kind of has an idea that maybe it is because he starts
- 12:26following CL just arrest someone close this C yeah so you arrest a new person for each
- 12:32individual murder only to later which does make sense why even if
- 12:37you kind of screw up the bust you still progress to the next level because
- 12:42actually it's not any of those people anyway I want to they need to make a
- 12:47sequel to that yeah they do need to make a sequel they do need to make a sequel I
- 12:52I replayed it recently because it came out on switch and I thought switch is a
- 12:55perfect platform for it because you know it can handle a game
- 13:01from 15 years ago maybe well you would have got the remastered version it is
- 13:07remastered but it it just makes it feel like you remember it being anyway it has
- 13:11it's not a remake it's you know it's literally just an upscale yeah but yeah it's it's
- 13:17good give give me a new one I like that because even with that like it's more
- 13:21about the story than the combat like you can actually skip more combat in the
- 13:25game yeah yeah oh yeah and you can skip the driving too cuz I find that driving
- 13:31very difficult and unintuitive yes but you can just ask your partner to drive
- 13:36every single time unless it's a a Chase unless the actual mission is a Chase but
- 13:40then if you fail it three times they let you skip it anyway yeah you want to skip
- 13:44this I used to like just getting the car and then making my partner sort of Chase
- 13:47the car as I sort of drove off slowly in front of him yeah yeah it's his
- 13:53car like it's his car and he goes yeah yeah that's right yeah no one wants to
- 13:58drive the car and but the thing is too though like there's hidden cars that you can unlock
- 14:04and all of this stuff in that game I never bothered with any of that because
- 14:09you hey you don't have to you don't get any advantages and it's not like vice
- 14:13city where the cars are very different to one another because it's the 80s like
- 14:17these are all cars from the 30s that just look the same as one another all
- 14:21weigh about six ton yeah that's right yeah I've got no real no Nostalgia for
- 14:26those types of cars certainly but speaking of playing three games a second
- 14:31time I'm well into my second playthrough of Alan Wake 2 right now how is that it
- 14:37changes things what what does it change
- 14:41so to back up and this is not really a spoiler but it is the end of alen wake 2
- 14:47but in the end of Alan Wake 2 uh he finds himself in a kind of a spiral as
- 14:53he puts it you know the first game ended with it's not a lake it's an ocean and
- 14:59then the second game ends with it's not a loop it's a spiral that's right so
- 15:05time isn't cyclical it just keeps going on and on and on with slight differences
- 15:09each time and so they've and I actually did not know
- 15:15about this when I first played it but once you complete the game something
- 15:18pops up and it says the final draft because it's about an author writing
- 15:22writing a book um and you can play the game through again multiple times I
- 15:28guess um with slight differences so so far I haven't really encountered anything
- 15:34different per se the I think the differences come in later on and there's
- 15:39a whole new ending evidently so I think when you I think when you fight the end
- 15:46boss sort of in in the second time around you end up with a different
- 15:51scenario than you did the first time you fought him when you worked out that it
- 15:55wasn't a loop it was a spiral that's the main difference different manuscripts
- 16:00that you find this time I'm actually reading them as well the F like in the
- 16:05first Alan white game I was kind of just collecting them as Collectibles and I
- 16:08wasn't really focusing on this on the story of it this it's a bit more
- 16:13compelling but mostly I'm just understanding the game a
- 16:17lot more the second time around and when you play it the first time and it's all
- 16:21mysterious that's all well and good that's very interesting but when you
- 16:25play it and it makes sense it's interesting on a whole the level I wish
- 16:30they had like achievement an achievement final draft did you but I
- 16:35mean yeah so there's not even a yeah right okay right there's no incentive
- 16:40other than just to experience incentive to go back and just play a great game
- 16:45again but that achievement I can't do it yeah you'd be missing out on
- 16:50achievements for something else that would be counting towards your um lots
- 16:54of things I noticed the first the second time playthrough so for example and this
- 16:59this is on me this is not on the game but like the later on in the game when
- 17:03you're playing as Allan you meet a sheriff in the dark place and I was like
- 17:07who the [ __ ] is this guy and I didn't realize I must have just blinked and
- 17:12missed it the first time but he is part of saga's story and he just disappears
- 17:17into the dark place that you see that happen um but I was like oh okay well
- 17:23that makes way more sense now than it just being this nonse character who just
- 17:27shows up and gives you yeah a map and other hints and things like that but there's
- 17:33also just so many little I sent you that screenshot the other day and they don't
- 17:37focus on this they don't zoom into it but just Mr door in his talk show when
- 17:42he's interviewing Alan he has the OD dear Diner mug on his table which is the
- 17:46diner that Saga is in in her storyline that he was in in the previous game so
- 17:51it's just all these all just ties in together and just yeah I also realized
- 17:58if you go into Mr door's dressing room when you're backstage again they don't
- 18:03make this this it doesn't figure into the story whatsoever it's just another
- 18:06little detail he's reading a book by that doctor character I forget his name
- 18:11from control who gives you all those all that backstory and Exposition in the
- 18:16control game yep so I'm so glad they sort of controlled it sort of well and
- 18:22then let them to be able to go back to do Ellen wake because Ellen wake was the
- 18:26first game was great combat was a bit Yeah Yeah a bit tedious yeah and then
- 18:31they made alen wake American nightmares which was just action and just combat
- 18:37that we didn't really like from that yeah that's right and not even really
- 18:41playing as Alan Wake but now they've allowed you to they've been allowed to
- 18:45do what they want and we get a great game it's not just a it's not a SE it's
- 18:50a sequel but it's not like a Cod 2 or
- 18:53yeah yeah um the other thing that I am enjoying this time around is not
- 18:59having to figure out what the [ __ ] is going on as I'm playing I can just play
- 19:04it and again that was fine the first time around because you explore but like
- 19:09even just in in Allan's storyline
- 19:13there's like taken everywhere but you
- 19:18don't you don't have to engage them you don't have to fight them mostly just
- 19:22switch off your torch and you can walk right past them um the first time I
- 19:26tried to fight literally everyone I encoun like you have to do when you're in Saga
- 19:31story y very different game well very different game just very different ways of
- 19:37handling there's one bug though have you heard about this no so this doesn't
- 19:41affect me because I did a a fairly detailed playthrough the first time
- 19:46sounds like you did as well or even more
- 19:49so how you proceed into the final
- 19:53draft uh second play yep is always based on your first
- 19:59playr right yep so if you played through and say you focused on the story you
- 20:05didn't do a lot of exploring and so you missed out a lot of Collectibles and
- 20:08stuff you finish the game you finish the game and then
- 20:14you go oh actually before I progress to the final draft I might just go back and
- 20:19load a save and and go back and find all that other stuff and complet it a bit
- 20:23more completely and then move on to the final draft it will continue from the
- 20:30first time you finished not the most recent time and people are pretty annoyed about
- 20:36that well yeah because that's the save that you yeah no that's that's right
- 20:40that's to me that's how it should work I I tend to agree and I think that's on
- 20:45you if you just rush through it also gives you
- 20:48warnings it absolutely does yeah if you this is and if there's anything else you
- 20:54want to do go do that now yeah yeah if you haven't gone back now that you've
- 20:58got got the bolt cutters and cut every lock that you couldn't get to the first
- 21:02time then you're not going to be able to do them yeah that's right that's fair
- 21:08people can be upset about it but that's your fault yeah now um remedy have said
- 21:13they will look at it they will consider changing it so that it just
- 21:18continues from your most recent because people seem to really want that but um
- 21:22but it doesn't matter anyway because you're going through the same levels
- 21:25you're going into the same yeah places so you could just find them the second
- 21:29time I don't I don't really know and you can get achievements the second I've
- 21:32gotten achievements that I didn't get the first time for finding things
- 21:36yeah cats are fighting can you explain this image that
- 21:42was sent to us earlier today I may have picked up one of my cats upside down and
- 21:48she was actually quite enjoying it until Hannah got the photo and then it looks
- 21:52like that she's freaking out and panicking and I'm torturing the it looks
- 21:55like you're literally abusing an animal I am not she actually enjoys
- 22:00it yeah yeah it's just when the photo came out it just looks like yeah it went
- 22:05downhill pretty quick yeah yeah um there is something
- 22:11here phop new which I find a bit strange and I thought with the recent strikes
- 22:15and everything this might have been thing but the air cut it's a no yeah
- 22:21it's a it's an absolute definite no so Suicide
- 22:25Squad you know famously
- 22:29garbage movie um but Oscar award winning
- 22:34oh yeah makeup something like for makeup makeup effects um
- 22:41so David a who's the director of it basically said it's not my fault that it
- 22:47sucks he said he handed in his cut and it was a perfectly good movie and then
- 22:52they got somebody else to come in and re-edit it y like a music video and it is very OBT
- 22:59in its editing lots of text on the screen and graphics and slowmo and
- 23:04freeze frames and stuff like that it apparently wasn't in his I do believe
- 23:08him that his version was probably different marginally better yeah
- 23:13different sure and probably better but not by much because I mean it's still
- 23:18going to be the same old movie right that he and he's been the one pushing
- 23:23for the air cut like we got cut of Justice League and he's also said things
- 23:28like oh there's way more of Jared Leto as the Joker and it's like mate you
- 23:31don't understand what we hated about this
- 23:35movie um but it seems like uh it's not ha well look DC said it's not happening
- 23:41full stop from the beginning but he was really pushing for it but evidently he
- 23:45he is just he's tired yeah he said he's done with DC he's not going to push for
- 23:51an air cut um done and done very sad he
- 23:56had a good cry and now feels healthier and now he just needs his wounds to
- 24:00heal that's so sad I know right look I actually thought that they might chance
- 24:06like with the strikes that happen we're coming up to a stage where there's going
- 24:09to be they need content yeah so why not take these sheld movies that one of
- 24:15brothers did like maybe bgirl yeah that would be the perfect I
- 24:20mean it's literally sitting there isn't it complete as far as I know yeah just
- 24:25release it just go hey this is not Cannon this is not anything yeah it's
- 24:29just a movie straight streaming mate there's no such thing as Canon anymore
- 24:32they've got a Joker movie that's got nothing to do with it they've got a
- 24:35Batman movie that's got nothing to do with it do a bgirl movie who cares yeah
- 24:39just just not everyone has to be Marvel
- 24:42no so yeah I don't know we'll see look I
- 24:48I will say I will actually watch this I'd watch it but I'm not I'd watch on a
- 24:53streaming service oh yeah yeah I wouldn't I wouldn't pay to go and see it no God no God no
- 24:59service that I already have I'm not going out of my way to watch it yeah no
- 25:04think that's a lot of other people's thoughts on it as well
- 25:08why the whole the whole concept of a director's cut happened by accident
- 25:13anyway then then the first one that people kind of know is the Blade Runner
- 25:16director's cut and when I was um a teenager that was kind of the version we
- 25:20were all watching it was like oh there's a director's cut um but actually a lot
- 25:25of people don't know that had nothing to do with the director and um that was a a
- 25:29film festival who found an old work print that was just a rough draft of the
- 25:34final so it's just an unfinished version released it and called it the director's
- 25:38cut and um people loved it because you
- 25:43know was slightly more raw than the you know slightly different ending didn't
- 25:47have the voiceover in yet um which and everyone's like oh
- 25:52director's Cuts directors can just go back and re-edit their movies and then
- 25:57it kind of in a in a strange Paradox Ridley scottt was like well I had
- 26:00nothing to do with that but actually I would like to go back and do one yeah
- 26:04and so he did the Final Cut and uh and kind of did a hybrid of them both really
- 26:09plus some new some new stuff but yeah like
- 26:14directors they direct they're
- 26:17not that's different to editing a movie yeah
- 26:24like yeah I don't know it's it's a group effort but yeah just because of the
- 26:29director says this is what I like directors maybe also sometimes aren't
- 26:33good at seeing the entire picture like oh yeah uh let's look at uh what's that
- 26:39movie that just came out that Star Wars ripoff Rebel Moon oh
- 26:45sure have you watched that yet I've watched that you watched it good
- 26:49movie it's on my list it's on my like bookmarked and I just keep looking at it
- 26:54and going nah but see the problem is is with this cuz when he came out and went
- 26:59that's a longer cut that would be better and it's all like yes it would be
- 27:02because you ski out the story in it but his idea of making movies is to make
- 27:08them very very long yeah yeah so that's not a good way to tell a story in a
- 27:14movie because you don't want a 4-Hour movie to sit there and watch you want
- 27:19but the the irony is that a lot of it's I don't know about this one but Zack
- 27:23Snider's movies always have so much slow motion like and not just normal slow
- 27:27like super slow motion it's like mate if you just made this normal speed this
- 27:31movie would be normal length look watch Rebel Moon and you
- 27:36watch it could have been good and I can understand why he's saying like there
- 27:41needs to be more because it's missing so much like they
- 27:46just basically go and collect people who are going to fight the war for them but
- 27:50no explanation of why these who these people are or so it's it's an early it's
- 27:55an early 2000s black hog movie then yes show the cool stuff and don't explain
- 27:59why anyone's actually there or what they're doing that's exactly what it is
- 28:03so watch it I will watch it I've got that and the the Creator is that the
- 28:09Creator Gareth Edwards sci-fi one that Matt saur and said was disappointing as
- 28:15well so I just I've got two disappointing Sci-Fi movies that I know
- 28:19I'll just wish were better yeah yeah yeah Rebel Moon that's already
- 28:25got a sequel so yeah I think he doesn't so cheap and so quick like I think he's just he's
- 28:32always on budget he's always on time they'll just always give him some money
- 28:36to make the movie well yeah part two it comes out in March or something like
- 28:40it's not like waiting a year or anything yeah well I think he shoots him in a
- 28:45studio too like not like Avatar where we're getting one every two years Jesus
- 28:50Christ I'm not even I didn't even see that last I'm not I'm not I'm out I'm done it's not
- 28:57good no um another so just while we're
- 29:02quickly talking about of Star Wars and and and Recaps I read a an interesting
- 29:08perspective the other day that somebody said the reason there's and again
- 29:13obviously this is not the real reason but the reason there's arguments about
- 29:17who shot first Han or greo is because there were so many people in the MOs Le
- 29:23Cana and everyone's memory of that incident is a little bit different so
- 29:29like somebody who was standing on this side might have said oh yeah no I saw
- 29:33Han he was the only one who shot and the other somebody standing on the other
- 29:35side might have said no no I'm pretty sure this guy shot as well well who shot
- 29:39first and this whole thing about trying to justify why there's multiple versions
- 29:43is because it's this like completely subjective didn't shoot at all it's not
- 29:50that he shot first he didn't even shoot yeah that's that's the Star Wars valid
- 29:55valid yeah yeah that's true because that's where that originally who shot
- 29:59first came from because remember they edited in that greo shot and Miss from fo
- 30:05away right and then they made it that it bent like it did like ricocheted which
- 30:10is why he missed they man they've changed that so many times they made it
- 30:13that they shoot at the same time yeah
- 30:18which just leave it to how sh in C
- 30:22blood yeah yeah because that's who he was mhm if you some of the books from
- 30:28back then he was a gunfighter as well he would do jewels on behalf of people and
- 30:33sure even with his Blaster because it had the sights on it he'd file down the
- 30:37sights so when he pulled it out it wouldn't get caught in these holster and
- 30:40stuff see that's red that's awesome oh man I miss those old Han Solo at stars
- 30:45end and all of that stuff yeah they were great books not for adults they were
- 30:50really teenage books yeah yeah yeah that's right but that's fine we were
- 30:55very very young I was a teenager I read them I love them exactly yeah um so
- 31:00Denny off and Weiss who adapted Game of
- 31:03Thrones for TV um and famously ruined that
- 31:09eventually um were going to do a Star Wars and they had they were signed up
- 31:14but as Kathleen Kennedy likes to do she likes to announce when Star Wars movies
- 31:18are happening and then cancel them so there's is not does she care them or
- 31:23just stop talking about them and then well go yeah that's not happening
- 31:27anymore yeah so that that was this one they they're not doing it I mean they
- 31:32they're moving they're done they're doing other stuff now but they said that
- 31:36their Star Wars movie was going to be set thousands of years ago and it was
- 31:40going to be about the first person to work out that they were Force sensitive
- 31:43so the very very first Jedi and I think that could have been quite interesting a
- 31:48because it wouldn't have had Darth Vader or any Skywalkers in it hopefully
- 31:52hopefully it wasn't like Jeff Skywalker and it's like and it's a family thing and this is
- 31:58a good thing like it could have been something set like it not about anything
- 32:02else like in the Star Wars Universal it's cool but you don't have to have a
- 32:06Skywalker and yeah people don't have to be related doesn't it have it it doesn't
- 32:11have to be about Rebels versus Empire it could just
- 32:15be yeah no or any other kind of Giant floating
- 32:21weapon what are what are Star Wars movies we are getting cuz I'm so
- 32:26confused now what's coming out now let's look actually that's a good point Star
- 32:32Wars upcoming
- 32:35yeah it sort of got Mandalorian and grou is the next one oh yeah that's that's a
- 32:41movie now which hope that's just a made TV movie I I'm not going of a movie to
- 32:48see that no and I'm only 5050 whether I would even watch that on streaming
- 32:54because I've not even seen the third season of uh Mandalorian then
- 33:00there's Star Wars the new Jedi Order what is
- 33:06that Daisy Ridley returning as Ray Skywalker oh yeah heard that so it's
- 33:12episode 10 essentially I guess
- 33:18yeah um oh I think I think Donald Glover actually said something about the Lando
- 33:24movie recently okay I that's that's one of the few ones I'd go out of my way to
- 33:29see re solo was not good but Donald
- 33:35Glover as Lando was amazing yeah 100% he was the best thing
- 33:41about why are there all these capes so
- 33:45good okay so uh SOA season two Andor season
- 33:50two um and a few other bad batch season 3 acolyte Skeleton Crew then there's ta
- 33:57White Star Wars movie mhm then there's James Mangold Star Wars movie then
- 34:03there's Dave filoni's Mando verse New Republic
- 34:08movie then John favos Mandalorian movie Star Wars Rogue Squadron
- 34:15movie that was that one's been cancelled that was the one that was going to be
- 34:21done by oh uh
- 34:26yes no it's James Cameron's ex-wife was it yeah it's going to be done and for
- 34:31that one I that's a movie I'd actually like but I'd like that as a television
- 34:35series and to focus on like yeah like a Battle Star Galactica but but set within
- 34:40the Rogue Squadron that would be excellent that would have been really
- 34:44good again just focus on their [ __ ] don't don't make it about the greater
- 34:49politics or anything just the day-to-day [ __ ] in that Squadron that they're going
- 34:53through they're going out they're just shooting down X-Wing no shooting down
- 34:58Tie fighters you sometimes they lose Pilots you get a new pilot to come
- 35:02in yeah yeah then the Lando
- 35:07movie Star Wars Rangers of the new Republic I remember that but that's
- 35:12presumed cancelled yeah because I think that Ryan Johnson Star Wars Trilogy
- 35:17presumed cancelled but but not officially canceled officially but he's
- 35:21still the only one that talks about it Trilogy though too like wasn't even just
- 35:26a one-off movie or episode of Mandan [ __ ] Trilogy both announced it like
- 35:31before his movie had even come out that y I'm going to do this Trilogy and then
- 35:34his movie came out and then Disney never spoke about it again yeah that's right
- 35:40wait till one comes out and like he could have done the next one like at
- 35:45least give him one maybe two before you promis three I think I know people are
- 35:50sick of talking about Sal I think that drives me crazy about the sequels were
- 35:56they didn't like they came out and said we're making a trilogy but didn't have
- 36:00the story worked out just let everyone write their own story and sort of like
- 36:05yeah what because there were so many things like like that first scene in
- 36:10Rogue one where uh
- 36:14PO is given that data disc or Whatever It Is by that old man and he hides it in
- 36:21uh BB and then the [ __ ] Empire come and attack like who was that old guy
- 36:26what was the info what's the backstory to that like this is all very
- 36:30interesting stuff you've set up yes and then we just never touch on that ever
- 36:36again no forget it and I still think they missed a great thing with Luke they
- 36:41just destroyed his character oh man and no one's more angry about that than Mark
- 36:47Hamill because yeah you ruined something like you just put out that Luke even
- 36:52though he's saw good in his in his
- 36:56father to murder his nephew cuz he had right cuz he had a hunch yeah that's
- 37:02right yeah murdering in the n in his sleep yeah and the other what they could
- 37:08have changed instead of having like Luke could have tried to change the force
- 37:12like instead of just being light and dark it could have been hey yes it's in
- 37:16between we don't have to be in extreme and yeah yeah yeah and all those rules
- 37:21of two that the you know the Sith bring in he could be like it doesn't have to
- 37:25be like this we can just take this back to like a Grassroots type of thing and
- 37:30the force can be more of a religion you know like it used to be
- 37:34instead of this just way to fight each other missed it they missed the mark
- 37:40yeah ran Johnson just really and then the last one is just uh
- 37:46well there's nothing I can do with this let's just blow [ __ ] up yeah every ship
- 37:52put every ship anyone's ever seen put a raptor in there it's not that show no
- 37:57don't worry put it in there it'll be fine I I remember so little about that
- 38:03movie and I know there were bits that I liked because the one time I saw it in
- 38:07the cinema I remember liking that little babo freak guy I remember a couple of
- 38:11other things being quite good but just generally speaking it was awful why is
- 38:17this an army of Imperials still starty
- 38:21like here and just when they go to that planet The Burning Man planet and it's
- 38:28just all these aliens doing a synchronized Dance I'm like oh man this
- 38:31is like special edition return to the Jedi garage they go and get the Army and
- 38:36everyone join the Army to fight like why is this first order there if everyone in
- 38:42the galaxy is against them like yeah how you
- 38:46power yeah yeah that's right true right
- 38:51because actually in the first movie in Star Wars sorry listeners in in the in a
- 38:57new hope Star Wars um Luke is going to join the academy like he's going to join
- 39:03the Empire because he wants to be a pilot and he wants to be in the Army and
- 39:07it wasn't evil per se it's just that there were certain people in there that
- 39:13were you know zealots about it and that they were you know like breaking the
- 39:18eggs to make the omelet etc etc and he eventually I mean he only I mean there's
- 39:25deleted scenes where you know he meets an old friend who is already about to
- 39:28jump ship and all of that stuff yeah but um I mean it really is only because he
- 39:32meets Leia and she talks him into it wants to get
- 39:37laid that's right doesn't know their brother and sister well they weren't at
- 39:42that time no they absolutely were not or or or none of that would have
- 39:48happened all right we don't have to talk about Star Wars anymore and actually
- 39:53actually with them being brother or sister that wasn't even a thing I think
- 39:55George just made that up in Return of Jedi so even in Empire it wasn't a oh
- 40:00yeah oh they they Mack on in the start of Empire yep and that wasn't haha
- 40:06people going to find this weird later it was a no he had to work out why Luke
- 40:10snaps and went oh yeah I'll make them related and then there way that's how we do it
- 40:16yeah that was the beginning of the end let's talk about some other franchise
- 40:21that people love that I don't understand oh there's there's plenty here which
- 40:25which one do you want to choose I see he was bored of the
- 40:29Rings so this is followup a couple of weeks ago I said that um I never
- 40:34actually read the books of Lord of the Rings and I wanted to go back and read
- 40:37them um mostly because I like the movies Lord of the Rings and I figured you know
- 40:42I like books as well so this will be good I'll get the expanded law
- 40:48um these are really boring go these are
- 40:51so boring there's a lot of words look the thing is I'm not going to say talk
- 40:57is not a great World Builder or character creator or linguist he's all
- 41:03of these things but I don't think he's necessarily a good writer because he's
- 41:08longwinded he changes tone like like willy-nilly
- 41:14it's it's the movies are better the movies are better like when you watch that
- 41:21movie and you he starts off on black and you hear Kate Winslet you know I feel it
- 41:26in the war like it's so visceral it's just it just
- 41:31pulls you in this book you've got to really just keep saying just keep
- 41:35reading you might get to some good stuff later and that's not what a good book is
- 41:39you could actually just see what it is in the book He's explaining in a lot of
- 41:44detail about what you meant to be and that would be fine too if he explained
- 41:49it and then stopped and moved on to something else but he will say the same
- 41:53thing over and over in different ways and you're like yeah man you told told
- 41:57me about this it's like just listening to like a long- winded colleague tell
- 42:01you what they did on the weekend you're like yeah I get it you went to the beach
- 42:05like get to the point like what what what happened there how was it yeah that's
- 42:09right yeah so I've I've stopped I've
- 42:12stopped I deleted it off my Kindle I'm not going back yeah I I might I may
- 42:19watch the movies again just to the enjoy them I might not
- 42:26even do that to be honest aren they like 12 hours or something well I think even
- 42:32if you just took the same three would be two and a half would be close to 10
- 42:36hours so I'd be surprised if it wasn't
- 42:39at least 12 um but I I tend to think there's a reason that movies are only a
- 42:45certain length long you know stories Good well-rounded stories in a 3
- 42:51structure 90 minutes two hours is where you want it to be for a movie especially
- 42:57Fellowship I mean there's just a lot more walking in that Extended Cut a more
- 43:03walking so yeah no apparently I don't like Lord of the Rings sorry sorry nerds
- 43:08I've let you down I've been honest I've never liked it yeah never read the books
- 43:14I watched the first movie and went this is not for me I don't like
- 43:18fantasy I don't mind fantasy and I like some more than others
- 43:24I'm more like a sword and sorcery kind of fantasy fan like I like He-Man you
- 43:30know what I mean Conan that kind of stuff more than elves and wizards yeah
- 43:35like I like Conan and stuff like that yeah but it's Wizards and yeah no not for
- 43:41me I I'll confess something I never play as a mage or a wizard if if I get a
- 43:45chance in a computer game I'm always the Barbarian or the Archer or they're
- 43:50fun yeah I just want to kill people I don't want to be [ __ ] around with
- 43:53spells which I think is why I couldn't get into Witcher too is because it was
- 43:57too focused on the magic which of three is just like just stab people yeah like
- 44:02you can like which of three is great you can just run stab people or you can take
- 44:05a little bit of time and work out which oils you need to put in your sword to
- 44:09fight which ones or just run and stab just [ __ ] yeah that's right that's
- 44:14what I put the level down and just stab that's what I did that's exactly what I
- 44:19did speaking of Witcher so there a little bit of followup here um on um TV
- 44:26star and film Enthusiast Henry caval right people think they've pinpointed
- 44:31the exact moment he decided not to return for The Witcher season 4 right
- 44:36really did you have a look at this interview so this is an interview it's
- 44:40it's a panel somewhere I forget where it is it's him you don't even have to
- 44:44listen to it you can just you can just watch a still really and I I'll I'll put
- 44:47us I'll put a still in the notes but yeah he's sitting next to the showrunner
- 44:51and she is saying she goes we wanted
- 44:53geralt to be like just relatable to
- 44:58everyone right and so we just kept infusing more and more humor into the
- 45:04story and just making him really relatable and Henry caval is sitting next to her just
- 45:10like like you can just tell that's just not what he thinks at all and uh
- 45:17evidently this was this interview was very very close to him just walking out
- 45:23so they reckon he was just like [ __ ] this obviously we have
- 45:28like he's a gamer I think he thought you guys have
- 45:35not played this game you haven't read these books I have I mean look I'm not
- 45:41all I'm not for actors getting heavy on set and throwing their weight around but
- 45:45I think he was like no look it's called The Witcher I play The Witcher and I'm
- 45:50very invested in this and I need you to just trust me what when I do this you
- 45:56know like we we heard stories about him just like cutting lines out on the Fly
- 46:00because he was like no I wouldn't say that yeah deal with it other
- 46:06actors but then in the other way is you do have to make him sort of talk more in
- 46:11a TV show then you would necessar with the game because in the the game there's
- 46:16other stuff happening in the book you've got stuff explaining what's going
- 46:19through 10 and what's other character thinking and doing in the TV show you
- 46:23can't just have him go and that's a 15 minute scene yeah that's right I'll admit I didn't
- 46:30even watch the whole season two I start I watched like two episodes and just
- 46:34could get into it and I don't really know why because season one was very
- 46:38good yeah very very good just yeah and
- 46:43what this because was he back for season three yes he's in season three but we
- 46:48haven't got that yet right no and then season four we switch over to a to a
- 46:52Hemsworth to a lesser Hemsworth yeah but yeah I I don't even know of
- 47:00which I mean Matt SARS by it Matt's like you guys are insane it's just as
- 47:04good just didn't didn't grab me look something else that Matt loves
- 47:10that that it turns out I do not share his enthusiasm for and I know you'll be
- 47:14on my side in this one listeners I I watch I went back to watch Twin Peaks
- 47:19this week um original or the new one the original because my my my I I've seen
- 47:25the original way back in the day not when it was first on I was too young but
- 47:30somewhere in after that I had watched it and really liked it never saw the second
- 47:34season never saw the prequel movie and certainly didn't watch the the modern
- 47:39season um but you know playing you know just played Alan Wake and you know I
- 47:44read a lot of Stephen King and I was kind of in the mood for that kind of
- 47:47country Town horror yeah and so I watched season one Eight Episodes murder
- 47:53mystery who SL off very good good good mystery good characterization good
- 47:59setting good World building excellent season two completely different show um
- 48:04Supernatural soap opera is how I describe it if I had to it it it is
- 48:10garbage it is nothing like the first season if it wasn't that the characters
- 48:15are still playing the same like act same actors playing the same characters you
- 48:19would think this is not the same show are you gonna finish watching it or are
- 48:24you tapping out I'm not gonna I'm tapping out I'm not going to watch this
- 48:27and I in fact so I I watched the first episode I was like this is awful but
- 48:31maybe it's just growing pains like maybe just I need to readjust to the to the
- 48:34tone of this started the second and and like I stopped and I was like I don't
- 48:39think I can do this and so then I went and watched a 40 minute
- 48:43long uh summary of the second season because I thought maybe maybe I just
- 48:48need to know what happens and then I can and I'm so glad I didn't watch it
- 48:52because it's just [ __ ] garbage like just so many things under mind also you
- 48:56find out who killed Laura Palmer in episode four of season two and then
- 49:01there's like there's 20 episodes in that season so there's like 12 more episodes
- 49:06or something after you've they've solved the mystery where they're just trying to
- 49:11add other story elements but you already don't care and it looks like there's I'm
- 49:15sure there's some good scenes in there and some good new characters and stuff
- 49:19but it's just it just seems very silly sort of a weird count of episodes
- 49:25for something back then cuz back then then everything was 26 episodes yeah so
- 49:29I think I think they didn't expect the first season to go very well so they
- 49:34just gave it a very very short season and then it went so well they just gave
- 49:37it a huge season goahead for this and it just problem whereas yeah we don't
- 49:43actually have a story for all that we had another eight episode story in our
- 49:48heads and give it US 22 Episodes yeah yeah but instead of stringing it out
- 49:55they just made those eight and then just made more phoned it in the rest and took
- 49:59their check yeah really so yeah I'm I'm out I don't I don't give a [ __ ] what
- 50:05happens in the prequel I don't give a [ __ ] what happens in the new one I'm
- 50:08sort of happy like with streamings now how you they will just make up TV shows
- 50:13for as long as they need to be now not Y the limited run series is my favorite I
- 50:19think it's the best thing that's happened to TV yeah you don't have to
- 50:22have Filler episodes because you got to make that 26 episode so you don't have
- 50:26to the crap episode and there won't be like like Haunting of Hill House great
- 50:31okay are we going to do season two no let's just let that guy make another
- 50:35show okay so now he's making midnight mass oh that was great season two no
- 50:38let's just let him make another show okay House of user great season two no
- 50:43no need just make another show yep love it I haven't seen any of it but
- 50:50I'm sure I will one day but that's how it should be yeah absolutely oh you Haven seen any
- 50:57of those three shows started watching
- 51:01and hatte it because I love who's in him did you watch any of midnight mass
- 51:07no so that's the one where Rahul yeah proves that not he's not just a great
- 51:13comedian he's a [ __ ] good actor like a good dramatic actor and I've always
- 51:18own that and that's why he should be the next James Bond I would I'm 100% behind
- 51:23that is this just us pushing has he mentioned that he wants to be James
- 51:26respond pretty sure like if he had a said it would have yeah he would if he
- 51:31got asked a question he would say yes but it is just us pushing through a lot
- 51:35of people that were up for it are kind of too old now because they they let it
- 51:38drag on but I don't think he's too old I think he's right in The Sweet Spot he's
- 51:42at that perfect age yeah oh man we got to get a campaign happening we should
- 51:48because he he can do the humor because I do want go back to that sort of campy
- 51:52Bond yes oh he could do that man you
- 51:55should he's so funny in um the the
- 51:59recent one the house of user he's so funny in it yep and he's funny because
- 52:06when he commits to Comedy it's taking it deadly it's not like um Adam Sandler or
- 52:12J Cary where they're doing wacky [ __ ] he does it with such sincerity that it's
- 52:17just hilarious yeah no we need to get this campaign going yeah all right let's
- 52:22put him on the thumbnail this week as James Bond as James Bond yeah Rahul for
- 52:27Bond y excellent name of this episode yeah yeah
- 52:34yeah right what else we can fit something else in before we get to the
- 52:38Afterparty I think yeah oh I wanted to uh to tell you something because last
- 52:44week um you said when we're talking about the Oscars and you were saying
- 52:48they've lost relevance and I don't disagree but you said I don't think
- 52:53they're going to last long and uh almost as a response to that they're like [ __ ]
- 52:58it we're adding more categories really so yeah so there's a new category in the
- 53:03next Oscars best casting
- 53:09what so there's going to be an award now for the casting agent who suggested What
- 53:15actors to put in the movie now I guess having good actors in your movie with
- 53:21good chemistry is is part of what makes a movie good yeah but
- 53:27does anyone care do they deserve an award for it I don't know this isn't
- 53:32helping it make it more relevant because this is another war that the public do
- 53:36not care about no that's right yeah and look I'll I'll even go as far as saying
- 53:41like even things like editing sound editing and all of that stuff no one
- 53:44cares about them to the point where last year they put those on during the ad
- 53:48breaks and didn't televise them and the people that were up for those Awards got
- 53:52really shitty but but they were like nobody cares this is when every
- 53:56everyone's going out to make a cup of tea anyway the only thing that people
- 54:00actually like to watch they watch like people walking on a red carpet to see
- 54:03what they're wearing and then they look at Best Actor best film and then went
- 54:07done like yeah I could cut down the Oscars to 30 minutes that's right yeah
- 54:13yeah and that's a TV 30 minutes with ads so that's 22 minutes yeah doesn't need
- 54:17to go on for as long as it has yeah yeah
- 54:21no this it's not going to
- 54:25work sorry the Oscars it's it's on its way out I think they'll still do it
- 54:30because I think I think they still are gonna want to Pat each other on the back
- 54:33but I think they might stop televising it yeah they might doesn't need to be
- 54:39the big production for that they put it on yeah it must cost them a fortune to
- 54:44put this on each year too because also they get presents and stuff as well yeah
- 54:49I think most of those are donated I'd like to get donated some of
- 54:53those one of those B it's like worth thousands of oh yeah there's [ __ ] I was about to
- 54:58say iPods showing my
- 55:01age yeah it's like Tech g g gadgets and
- 55:06like high-end perfumes and all the stuff that that they're rich they don't need
- 55:13yeah and they don't care S one my way I'll care yeah that's right we'll talk
- 55:19about it on the show yes send me anything and I'll talk about on the show
- 55:24my daughter has started watching um uh I think I mentioned this briefly
- 55:30last week she she stopped watching the shows she likes and she only wants to
- 55:34watch YouTube versions of those shows so what are these like I don't so okay so
- 55:40there's a couple of categories so number one the one that just was I was reminded
- 55:44of in this conversation is people playing with toys and making up their
- 55:49own episodes and it's kids doing it isn't it 5050
- 55:54so so the the the better ones are the are kids doing it so it's kids playing
- 56:01with toys making them talk of stuff the ones where adults do it are a little bit
- 56:05sad because it's it's almost exclusively men you could tell that they're our age
- 56:12or a bit older like it it's just it's just a bit sad right and just the St and
- 56:18it's they just oh hello you know like it's just it's just there's something a
- 56:23bit wrong about it um but these kids that do it seem I this is on YouTube
- 56:29kids isn't it so
- 56:32it's so there's yeah so the one that she's obsessed with at the moment is not
- 56:39on YouTube kids because it's like M or PG rated which is you know how Peppa Pig
- 56:45is quite rudimentary in its animation style I don't know if you've seen much
- 56:49of it but it's it's like early I will admit I paid a Peppa Pig
- 56:54game right okay yeah so because it's so
- 56:58rudimentary it's easily emulated so people and I don't mean one channel I
- 57:03mean a whole bunch of different people have made fake Peppa Pig episodes that
- 57:08look like real episodes ex get taken down I don't know well I think parody
- 57:15laws I think because they say this is a parody of of uh you know Peppa Pig and
- 57:21you're allowed to you're allowed to parody at to a certain level
- 57:27as long as you're not leading people to think that they're watching a real
- 57:30episode of Peppa Pig but there are zombie ones alien ones there's one
- 57:35that's an episode of squid games where the characters from Peppa Pig are in the
- 57:39squid games scenario getting murdered and all of this stuff but it looks like
- 57:45your daughter watching this well there's 50 that that one is is is is pretty tame
- 57:50there was so my daughter loves zombies and aliens and she's obsessed with
- 57:54watching and most of them are pretty tame but we watched one the other day
- 57:58where like Peppa Pig and Bluey I think got kidnapped by aliens and [ __ ]
- 58:03probed and [ __ ] and I was like this is going off I'm drawing the line at this
- 58:07drawing drawing the line oh yeah I just Googled zombie Peppa Pig and oh my God
- 58:13but it looks real right other than that that they would never have that in a
- 58:16Peppa Pig episode Peppa Pig zombies done by like this 14 million
- 58:22views so there was one see the zombies ones at least look
- 58:26you can tell they're fake cuz there zombies right we watched one the other
- 58:29day that just looked like a normal Peppa Pig episode except they got into a car
- 58:33crash and the mum died right mommy pig died and then Daddy Pig so they're all
- 58:38sad they [ __ ] there was a funeral then Daddy Pig remarried with Mrs rabbit
- 58:42which is another character in it and became the Stepmom but then her and
- 58:47Peppa would fight and they would never quite get on and there was nothing
- 58:49bizarre like no aliens and stuff like nothing to suggest this wasn't an
- 58:53episode other than this wouldn't possibly an
- 58:57episode that's
- 59:03okay yeah there's a lot of there's a lot of it
- 59:08yeah but I don't know this doesn't quite seem parody to
- 59:14me this just seems ripoff yes we're taking your characters and we're just
- 59:19going to re make our own stuff yeah well there's one that Peppa Pig is Spider-Man
- 59:25and so it's both it's both ripping off Peppa Pig and Spider-Man and it properly
- 59:29does the thing when she turns into it you see the DNA you know the DNA cracks
- 59:34and rejoins up and stuff like in the old Spider-Man and that all happens in it so
- 59:38I'm surprised they haven't been sued by Sony and by BBC like they're not doing
- 59:43this with Mickey Mouse that's for sure yeah yeah you'd have to be pretty ballsy
- 59:47to do that you can do it with steam Willie now yeah yeah yes you can within
- 59:53certain limitations um look there's something that popped into my head this week that
- 59:58I wanted to ask you about and um I don't know if it's a short answer or um or
