- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, what did you drive this week? I had a
- 0:08Speaker 1: Lamborghini horror car. Yeah, very orange, very orange. I like
- 0:13Speaker 1: to call it high viz.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Orange.
- 0:17Speaker 1: No, I didn't.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Well, I drove the MG four, the new one. Yeah,
- 0:21Speaker 3: from like thirty eight thousand dollars, which is bloody check.
- 0:24Speaker 1: That's is that it's not technically the cheapest by like
- 0:27Speaker 1: one hundred dollars, right something like that.
- 0:29Speaker 4: I think the.
- 0:29Speaker 1: BYD Dolphin is like in that by one hundred bucks.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But I'm pretty sure those two cars are miles apart.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, the MG I think looks better to me. But
- 0:39Speaker 3: then I also went to check out the key at
- 0:41Speaker 3: EV nine. Yeah, and I reckon that looks unreal. So
- 0:43Speaker 3: that's launching in October this year. It's like as big
- 0:46Speaker 3: as a land Cruiser, seven seats full of electric.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Does it feel heavy?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Well, we didn't drive it.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It's these were pre production cars, but got to sit
- 0:53Speaker 3: in it and it has all of the bells and whistles.
- 0:56Speaker 3: They haven't announced pricing, but it'll be about one hundred grand,
- 0:58Speaker 3: so it's gonna be But yeah, that that is good fun. Now,
- 1:03Speaker 3: before we get further into this show, we're about to
- 1:06Speaker 3: have a guest on and.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yes, and one thing I will say before the guest
- 1:10Speaker 1: comes in, just enjoy me in beautiful, lovely crisp audio
- 1:15Speaker 1: while it lasts. While it lasts, is in about four minutes,
- 1:19Speaker 1: it's going to turn shit house.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 3: So we had an issue with Gordy's mike and it, yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 3: it clips a little bit for some bizarre reason. So
- 1:28Speaker 3: when you do hear the interview, we apologize profusely for
- 1:32Speaker 3: Gordy's performance.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Not my fault. It's not my fault, babe.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Happens all the time.
- 1:38Speaker 3: But yeah, this bloke you will know him from radio,
- 1:41Speaker 3: from TV. He was on Essays Australia and.
- 1:45Speaker 1: One half of American Rosso and nowadays he's drinking lots
- 1:48Speaker 1: of wine. He's also he also has an awesome podcast
- 1:52Speaker 1: which you can find on iHeartRadio. We're going to check
- 1:55Speaker 1: the links in the description and all that sort of stuff,
- 1:58Speaker 1: so please check out his podcast anyway. Merrick Watts, that.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Was pretty tense. It was pretty tense driving that car.
- 2:07Speaker 4: It's funny you only get to like, you know, fifty
- 2:09Speaker 4: sixty k's, but you get there very quickly and it
- 2:12Speaker 4: sounds it looks like you're going a minimle now, but
- 2:15Speaker 4: you're definitely on the speed limit at all times.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll you'll load to the ground. Yet you're also
- 2:22Speaker 1: metaphorically so much higher than other people high state.
- 2:25Speaker 4: It's definitely high stage individual years. Yeah, but the car
- 2:28Speaker 4: is low profile. Yes, I said the juxtaposition there, it's excellent. Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 4: five points to you. This is a competition, isn't it. Yes,
- 2:35Speaker 4: we have to get on the podcast, by the way,
- 2:37Speaker 4: because we start the podcast when I'm ready and we
- 2:39Speaker 4: have I have all started. Yeah, absolutely, we have welcome. Welcome,
- 2:42Speaker 4: Welcome to the Driver Show with Paul and Gordi. I'm Merrick,
- 2:45Speaker 4: their guest.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, so here we are all crammed in a very
- 2:51Speaker 1: hot room. By the way, I have to warn you
- 2:53Speaker 1: that this room does get quite steamy, and Paul is
- 2:56Speaker 1: of Croatian descent, so he will most likely get some
- 2:59Speaker 1: sort of a bush and kind of like sort of
- 3:01Speaker 1: tap it on his back as if it's some sort
- 3:03Speaker 1: of Mediterranean sauna.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Really, yeah, we all get naked.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It's funny.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Okay, let's just taken the turn.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Let's let's talk about Australian cars. Because I'm a big
- 3:14Speaker 3: fan of the eight stuff. I know that you've you've
- 3:18Speaker 3: owned GTOs, you had an XAGT as well. I saw
- 3:21Speaker 3: a picture of that. What is the what was the
- 3:23Speaker 3: two Hands connection.
- 3:26Speaker 4: This is gonna sound insane because so many of my
- 3:31Speaker 4: car purchases have been insane, and often at the time
- 3:35Speaker 4: of purchase fueled by alcohol. But like quite literally the
- 3:42Speaker 4: Two Hands car.
- 3:45Speaker 5: From the movie.
- 3:46Speaker 4: We purchased that because we were leaving Fox Studios, Rosso
- 3:50Speaker 4: and I had been to a screening or a meeting
- 3:52Speaker 4: or something, and we're walking out. We bumped into Gregor Jordan,
- 3:55Speaker 4: who's the director of the film Two Hands, and Ned
- 3:59Speaker 4: Kelly is a terrific guy, and we bumped into him
- 4:02Speaker 4: and we go, what are you doing with this? And
- 4:04Speaker 4: he has, oh, I'm trying to sell it, and there
- 4:06Speaker 4: was like a tire kick had some guy'd come along
- 4:08Speaker 4: and was like he was going to chop it up
- 4:09Speaker 4: for parts. And he was like you could see that
- 4:11Speaker 4: he was guardted that this piece of you know what
- 4:14Speaker 4: he fairly thought was historical Australian engineering, and also too,
- 4:20Speaker 4: you know, a movie film, a movie film, a movie car.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It's a Mulphie film, it's a movie film.
- 4:26Speaker 4: And he was like he's pretty gutted by the idea
- 4:29Speaker 4: that it might be chopped for parts, and so we
- 4:32Speaker 4: just on the spot just went, oh, let's go for
- 4:34Speaker 4: a drive or buy it. And he is, where are
- 4:36Speaker 4: you going to go for a drive and then buy it? Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 4: we'll go for a drive and then buy it. And
- 4:40Speaker 4: so we went for a drive down the end of
- 4:42Speaker 4: the street and then we bought the car. Rus and
- 4:44Speaker 4: I owned a few cars collectively. What year was this,
- 4:46Speaker 4: I think it was like two thousand and four, two
- 4:49Speaker 4: thousand and five thereabouts when we bought the XA.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And how much did you pay for it?
- 4:53Speaker 4: I can't remember, but it was I think about eighteen grand.
- 4:58Speaker 4: It could be completely wrong, it could be thirty five.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I was drunk a lot, but no, I think it was.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I think it was about eighteen grand or something like that.
- 5:07Speaker 3: If you look at them today, they have just gone
- 5:10Speaker 3: through the roof. And that's even for like a replica.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Great car. Well, they call them tributes now, which I love.
- 5:16Speaker 2: It is a tribute. I think that's a porn term.
- 5:21Speaker 5: You'd know.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I would not know that, and that's genuine. What's interesting
- 5:25Speaker 4: about that car, though, is that it's a Ford, but
- 5:28Speaker 4: the paint job is actually the color is actually from Holden.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Ah just deliberate, Gregor did it deliberately?
- 5:34Speaker 3: So?
- 5:35Speaker 4: Yeah, the Duco is a Holden Duco put on a Ford.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Why was that a deliberate thing?
- 5:43Speaker 5: I think because he wanted to have I don't know.
- 5:48Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 5:49Speaker 4: I think I think it had something to do with
- 5:53Speaker 4: the good and bad elements within the film or something
- 5:56Speaker 4: like that, you know, the character stuff. I really can't
- 5:58Speaker 4: I think it was definitely something to do with the film.
- 6:02Speaker 4: It was a very deliberate decision. It wasn't accidental. But
- 6:04Speaker 4: he got the car and he had it resprayed with
- 6:06Speaker 4: a holding color, and it might have just been because
- 6:08Speaker 4: it looked better and he thought that Ako, the character Accho,
- 6:12Speaker 4: would look better driving there.
- 6:14Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So that car went to auction. Do you know where
- 6:17Speaker 2: it is today?
- 6:19Speaker 4: Got no idea.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Did you ever take that down across at all? Just
- 6:21Speaker 1: for like shitting gigs?
- 6:22Speaker 3: Oh?
- 6:23Speaker 4: Yeah, took the car all sorts of places, just mainly
- 6:25Speaker 4: around Sydney. I don't think I drive it. I think
- 6:27Speaker 4: I drive it out to Bathurst.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I did.
- 6:30Speaker 4: I drive it out to Bathurst. I drove it around
- 6:32Speaker 4: the mountain just because it felt like it needed to
- 6:34Speaker 4: go do some sort of spiritual connection. It was like
- 6:37Speaker 4: something there And yeah I did. I drove to Bathurst,
- 6:42Speaker 4: but I didn't drive it.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Long distances typically.
- 6:45Speaker 4: I used to just you know, get it out on
- 6:47Speaker 4: occasion just to be a bogan.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And were you and Rosso like it was that like
- 6:51Speaker 1: shared custody of that car.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it was shere custody. But I was definitely the
- 6:55Speaker 4: favorite parent. So you know, it was like a lot
- 6:58Speaker 4: of marriages. I wo'd always prefers one parent, but doesn't
- 7:01Speaker 4: tell them they car loved me, loved me, but that look,
- 7:04Speaker 4: I was kind of I was more the kind of
- 7:07Speaker 4: custodian of it in some ways. But Russo, yeah, he'd
- 7:10Speaker 4: drive it from time to times. Well, we had a
- 7:12Speaker 4: few cars we own. We had a few cars. We
- 7:15Speaker 4: had a couple of Layland Piece seventy sixers there for
- 7:17Speaker 4: a while. Why again, Like honestly, we were at a
- 7:22Speaker 4: pub one day and we were drunk, and we were
- 7:25Speaker 4: going through the auto trader on a Friday afternoon and
- 7:27Speaker 4: we saw some a pair of Layland Peace seventy six
- 7:31Speaker 4: is for sale and Queensland and we went as if
- 7:33Speaker 4: this wouldn't be the best decision ever, so we bought them.
- 7:36Speaker 4: And then the next day we'll get a phone call
- 7:38Speaker 4: from our assistant and she said, oh, by the way,
- 7:40Speaker 4: you went to lower the piece seventy six's and we went,
- 7:42Speaker 4: what are you drunk? And she goes, no, you were there.
- 7:46Speaker 4: We're going no, we don't know that car, but he's
- 7:48Speaker 4: talking about it. She said, no, you purchased them yesterday.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I've done all the paperwork. She was furious. So we're like, oh, wow,
- 7:53Speaker 4: we've got two cars with to get rid of them.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So why did you guys buy cars together? What was
- 7:58Speaker 1: the reason for that?
- 7:59Speaker 5: I don't know. Both love them.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Both Russell and I love cars, Australian cars particularly, got
- 8:05Speaker 4: a passion for them, and it's less about what's actually
- 8:09Speaker 4: under the bonnet and more about what they've done socially
- 8:13Speaker 4: or what they've represented in a time or space. And
- 8:17Speaker 4: I think that's what it was. We both liked different cars,
- 8:20Speaker 4: but we also liked the same cause. Also, I had
- 8:21Speaker 4: a Citron, which you really really liked.
- 8:23Speaker 5: It was a DS Citron he had there for a
- 8:25Speaker 5: little while and he really liked that.
- 8:27Speaker 4: He also had an EH for a little while as well,
- 8:29Speaker 4: and he really liked those cars.
- 8:30Speaker 5: But neither of those cars I would purchase for himself.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I had at that time, I had a Mark one
- 8:38Speaker 4: Mustang Nice and I also had a holding gto as well,
- 8:44Speaker 4: So at any one point I owned about three or
- 8:47Speaker 4: four vs. This is why you should never give Bogan's cash.
- 8:51Speaker 4: That's what this is.
- 8:52Speaker 3: What can't You can't really do that anymore, right, Like
- 8:55Speaker 3: you look at the classic car market. It has gone
- 8:57Speaker 3: so ballistic that you can buy an absolute shit box
- 9:00Speaker 3: and it'll never run, or you can go and spend
- 9:04Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty grand on a clean club sport
- 9:06Speaker 3: or something. I think these days that's gone and it's
- 9:09Speaker 3: not the same as it used to be. Everyone's trying
- 9:11Speaker 3: to make a buck.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 9:12Speaker 4: I mean the prices of some of those cars that
- 9:16Speaker 4: I used to admire as a kid, which were you
- 9:18Speaker 4: know at that time. You know, when I was young,
- 9:21Speaker 4: all I wanted to do was an SLR five thousand.
- 9:24Speaker 5: I just love them.
- 9:25Speaker 4: But I grew up in Eltham in Melbourne, which is
- 9:28Speaker 4: the home of Peter brock So Brocky went to my school.
- 9:31Speaker 4: So you know, Holden's and Tarana's were very popular. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 4: I lived well, We.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Had Bev on the show and the history is amazing
- 9:42Speaker 3: some of the stories she had about her growing up,
- 9:46Speaker 3: but also then the life with Brockie was unbelievable, and
- 9:51Speaker 3: even the story she told about after he passed away.
- 9:55Speaker 3: She was getting a lot of requests to authenticate cars
- 9:59Speaker 3: and memory be She had one bloke that claimed he
- 10:02Speaker 3: lived in Diamond Creek and he wanted to come and
- 10:04Speaker 3: sign something that Pete had signed.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So the address was in Diamond Creek.
- 10:08Speaker 3: She's turned up and knocked on the door and ladies
- 10:11Speaker 3: answered and she's like, no, I didn't ask you to
- 10:14Speaker 3: come here. I don't know who you are, or I'd
- 10:16Speaker 3: never asked you to do anything like that. And she's like,
- 10:18Speaker 3: I'm really confused, and starts walking back down the driveway
- 10:21Speaker 3: and this dude just pops out of the bushes with
- 10:23Speaker 3: some car park that she wanted that he wanted her
- 10:25Speaker 3: to sign. Oh wow, because he was going to flog
- 10:29Speaker 3: it off secondhand somewhere, but there was just so many
- 10:32Speaker 3: weirdos out there.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he's sort of attached to that. But I think
- 10:35Speaker 2: growing up that's the.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Bev's foolish mistake because Diamond Creek is actually halfway between Eltham,
- 10:40Speaker 4: where Brockie went to school and where they had a
- 10:43Speaker 4: property up near Kangarooground. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah, that's
- 10:49Speaker 4: that doesn't seem like I mean, for her, that's not
- 10:52Speaker 4: out of order at all.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's and I think this guy probably lived who
- 10:55Speaker 3: knows where, and he thought, well, I'm going to pick
- 10:57Speaker 3: a location where I know is near where she is,
- 11:00Speaker 3: and I'm going to go and just give this, give
- 11:02Speaker 3: this a crack.
- 11:03Speaker 4: But Lounds is from Diamond Cracker, I think, yeah, right.
- 11:06Speaker 1: What gravitated you guys to old cars?
- 11:11Speaker 4: I think that there was a uniquely Australian element to them.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Like if you particularly for me, with muscle cars, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 4: there's really you've got sports cars and supercars from Europe.
- 11:22Speaker 4: You know, your Ferraris and Lambeous and Asta Martins and
- 11:25Speaker 4: everything else. So then you've got muscle cars. And if
- 11:28Speaker 4: you look at where muscle cars are kind of fabricated,
- 11:31Speaker 4: you've got some it's a little bit of an identity
- 11:35Speaker 4: there in the UK, but it's largely America and Australia.
- 11:38Speaker 4: We were really into the muscle cars, and I think
- 11:42Speaker 4: that's what I always was drawn to. That was felt Australian,
- 11:46Speaker 4: but it felt international at the same time, and it
- 11:49Speaker 4: felt like we were doing something that was different and
- 11:53Speaker 4: better for it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I agree. I mean, if you look at American muscle cars,
- 11:57Speaker 1: they got terrible after sort of the late seventies eighties,
- 12:03Speaker 1: except for the Pontiac Fiber amazing, but even the nineties,
- 12:07Speaker 1: like the Mustang, the interior is just I.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Can tell you what it is. When Barbie started, like
- 12:15Speaker 4: quite literally, like you know that it's not saying Barbie
- 12:18Speaker 4: or the movie or was responsible for it, but that
- 12:21Speaker 4: styling became very, very popular, and that you know, they
- 12:25Speaker 4: weren't as obsessed by engine capacity.
- 12:27Speaker 5: They were all more in line with.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Thinking about petrol costs because of the time, and so
- 12:33Speaker 4: they started to reshape them and have look at them
- 12:36Speaker 4: and you look at something like the Ford Capris, you know,
- 12:38Speaker 4: the Ford Capri. When I was a kid, those early
- 12:41Speaker 4: Ford Capris were a.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Weapon, an absolute weapon.
- 12:46Speaker 4: And then they re released the Ford Capri and I've gone,
- 12:49Speaker 4: that looks like a.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Barbieco I want to say Barbecao.
- 12:52Speaker 4: I mean like an open top, kind of flat accessible coupei.
- 12:56Speaker 4: You know, that's what it was. It was less about
- 12:58Speaker 4: that hard top coupe was it was soft top.
- 13:02Speaker 5: And it was easy to get in and out.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Of and easy to. That's what happened to the fo
- 13:06Speaker 4: Capri as well. It became Barbie cars.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and they were always like a sexy shade of
- 13:09Speaker 1: gold coast red. Why were they always red.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Because you could put your figureines in and out of them,
- 13:14Speaker 4: you know. That's what I say, Like the Barbie car
- 13:16Speaker 4: is like because it was it was not as tough
- 13:22Speaker 4: and aggressive looking they were. They still like the performance vehicle,
- 13:25Speaker 4: but they had lost for me, they had lost the way,
- 13:28Speaker 4: as you say, at that exact time, I just went
- 13:30Speaker 4: to shit.
- 13:31Speaker 3: So fast forward, we're moving towards an era of electric cars.
- 13:35Speaker 2: And how do you feel about electric cars.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I haven't got.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Really any strong opinions on them because I haven't driven them. Yep.
- 13:46Speaker 4: I think they're good, yep, I think. I mean, the
- 13:48Speaker 4: data speaks for itself. There's things fly because of the
- 13:53Speaker 4: engine drive you know, the lack of drive train.
- 13:57Speaker 1: But the.
- 14:00Speaker 4: I think that they are a good step forward generally,
- 14:05Speaker 4: but I'm not convinced that they are the best long
- 14:07Speaker 4: term option yet because what is required to manufacture an
- 14:11Speaker 4: electric vehicle, you know, precious metals particularly, and the fact
- 14:17Speaker 4: that you know, I could be misquoting somebody that I
- 14:20Speaker 4: heard on the internet or something. But I'll be bold,
- 14:23Speaker 4: but there's simply not enough precious metals on this planet
- 14:27Speaker 4: for every person to have an ev hydrogen where I reckon,
- 14:32Speaker 4: We'll go and I reckon when you start seeing everybody
- 14:35Speaker 4: knows electric cars the thing the thing, Well, then why
- 14:39Speaker 4: have massive manufacturers like BMW and others not given up
- 14:44Speaker 4: on hydrogen?
- 14:45Speaker 2: Whyt all correct?
- 14:46Speaker 4: Right, so you go, well, hang on if they'd completely
- 14:50Speaker 4: walks back and just said the hydrogen experiment was a
- 14:53Speaker 4: little bit like when Brocky got the crystals.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Out the energy pulvarizer.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah, do you know what?
- 15:00Speaker 1: You can actually still buy those things.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Because people want them to put in their their groups.
- 15:07Speaker 3: If you actually want the original A lot of they
- 15:10Speaker 3: were stolen over that is that completes an original car,
- 15:13Speaker 3: and now they are over the moon expensive. But you
- 15:16Speaker 3: are right with electric cars if you look at some countries.
- 15:19Speaker 3: And I've said this countless times before, but when I
- 15:21Speaker 3: went to South Africa recently for a car launch, the
- 15:23Speaker 3: middle of the night, power went out for like six
- 15:25Speaker 3: hours and they still powershed for like six hours a day.
- 15:29Speaker 2: If you own an electric car, you.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Cannot own one over there because you don't know if
- 15:32Speaker 3: you're going to be able to charge it or not.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Your alternative is to use a diesel generator, which seems
- 15:37Speaker 3: intuitive to me. If you come down to Victoria, we
- 15:40Speaker 3: predominantly have coal power, and you're then charging an electric
- 15:43Speaker 3: car with coal power, which it doesn't seem intuitive as well.
- 15:46Speaker 2: So I think hydrogen still has legs.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I reckon hydrogen will see first in a kind of
- 15:52Speaker 4: commercial yes, realm and transport buses and mining stuff like that,
- 15:59Speaker 4: in a spot in hospitable locations possibly, who knows, but
- 16:02Speaker 4: I think that we'll see a combination of those two elements.
- 16:05Speaker 4: And obviously fossil fuels will eventually just remain in use
- 16:09Speaker 4: for airline travel.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 2: And you know the other thing with fossil fuels as well.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Porsche is building an e fuel production plant in Tasmania
- 16:18Speaker 3: and in Chile, and they've got other brands working on
- 16:21Speaker 3: e fuels as well, and it's going to mean that,
- 16:23Speaker 3: especially for Porsche, if you own a Classic nine to
- 16:25Speaker 3: eleven and the future goes towards hydrogen or electric or whatever,
- 16:29Speaker 3: you're still needed fuel to run your vehicle. And to me,
- 16:32Speaker 3: I'm excited by that because all the chipboxes I have.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I'm still going to be able to drive them on
- 16:35Speaker 3: a weekend. It will be an expensive fuel to manufacture,
- 16:39Speaker 3: and even if it's ten bucks later, I still can
- 16:41Speaker 3: stick it in the car on the car and know
- 16:43Speaker 3: that it can still make lots of sound and be fun.
- 16:45Speaker 3: So that is happening because my fear was that, Okay,
- 16:49Speaker 3: let's pretend the world moves to electric in ten fifteen years.
- 16:52Speaker 3: What I'm going to do with my vatcomitals. I want
- 16:54Speaker 3: to still be able to drive them, but I don't
- 16:56Speaker 3: want to have to have like a meth lab style
- 16:59Speaker 3: fuel action the thing at the back of my house.
- 17:01Speaker 1: One thing I'll say about EV's is I still don't
- 17:04Speaker 1: reckon we are where we should be in terms of infrastructure.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Like any charger that's that's not Tesla just feels risky.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you're changing a whole other network, so
- 17:15Speaker 4: you know you've got it when you're not just changing
- 17:18Speaker 4: a fuel source. So like when we went from leaded
- 17:22Speaker 4: petrol to unleaded petrol, they are vastly different and yet
- 17:28Speaker 4: they are interchangeable, whereas EV requires a whole new network
- 17:36Speaker 4: and also to you look weird when you've got like
- 17:39Speaker 4: one of my neighbors has got like an extension card
- 17:43Speaker 4: coming at the window of their house to power the
- 17:45Speaker 4: Tesla out the front. I'm just like, Okay, that's what
- 17:48Speaker 4: we're doing now, is it?
- 17:49Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:49Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's that's your power cord is across the
- 17:52Speaker 4: footpath Mark.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 3: It's not an ideal solution, isn't it. What does your
- 17:56Speaker 3: car history look like in terms of first car type stuff?
- 18:00Speaker 3: What did you sort of grow up with up until
- 18:01Speaker 3: you had enough money to buy something that wasn't a
- 18:03Speaker 3: third box. I my first car was a Valiant VEG Coop. Yeah,
- 18:09Speaker 3: nice seventy model.
- 18:11Speaker 5: And I loved it.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Great, it was like driving a boat. But that was
- 18:16Speaker 4: my first car. And I had Coops solely and entirely
- 18:19Speaker 4: for many years. But they were a great car. And
- 18:24Speaker 4: I wanted a charger, and I wanted an SLR five thousand,
- 18:27Speaker 4: and I wanted lots of things.
- 18:28Speaker 5: But what I.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Had was two two hundred dollars. That's what I had,
- 18:34Speaker 4: was a Valiant.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Just changing track a little bit. How long were you
- 18:38Speaker 1: guys doing breakfast radio.
- 18:40Speaker 5: For like ten years? Yeah?
- 18:42Speaker 1: How do you reckon things have changed for you personally
- 18:44Speaker 1: since breakfast radio times? Because I look at you now
- 18:46Speaker 1: and I'm like, you're calm, You're a smart guy, you're articulate.
- 18:49Speaker 1: But I mean when you're in the pressure cooker, that is.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I mean I've seen some tantrums, mainly my own.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Don't have emotional control, thank you. No, I mean that
- 19:00Speaker 6: Oh okay, good, so it didn't hurt first enough. I
- 19:06Speaker 6: did it again, knowing.
- 19:07Speaker 4: That it would.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's got Well, I am going to have
- 19:13Speaker 1: to have a look at myself. I'm just going to
- 19:14Speaker 1: go home and cry. Excuse me, guys. No, But my
- 19:17Speaker 1: point is it is an absolute rollercoaster, right.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it's And it's partly to do with hours, Like
- 19:25Speaker 4: you know, it's you You're not meant to be peaking
- 19:29Speaker 4: out at six am. You know, you know, it's against
- 19:31Speaker 4: your Cicadian rhythms. It is against the way your brain
- 19:35Speaker 4: chooses to work. And then you know you're heightened that
- 19:39Speaker 4: with an intensity in the studio and passionate people, passionate voices.
- 19:45Speaker 4: There's a lot of You've got a big bag of firecrackers,
- 19:48Speaker 4: and eventually one firecracker, a small fire cracker is going
- 19:51Speaker 4: to let the whole bag bower. Right, That's just the
- 19:53Speaker 4: way it works, and in hindsight, it's really easy to
- 19:56Speaker 4: see that. In hindsight, you go, oh, well, of course,
- 19:57Speaker 4: there's all these accumulative pressures.
- 20:00Speaker 5: And some of them are really good.
- 20:01Speaker 4: You know. One of the things I love about breakfast
- 20:03Speaker 4: radio is that it is pressure. I love that pressure,
- 20:06Speaker 4: like the intensity, and I like the drive. I really
- 20:09Speaker 4: enjoy that. But there's also too there's other factors involve,
- 20:13Speaker 4: and those accumulatively can set off some fireworks. But you know,
- 20:20Speaker 4: it's a great privilege to do breakfast radio. I always
- 20:23Speaker 4: thought that to do any radio is a great privilege.
- 20:28Speaker 4: But you know, for me, I mean, I don't it's
- 20:32Speaker 4: not even the hours for me now, my disciplines in
- 20:35Speaker 4: my lifestyle now are far more conducive to being able
- 20:39Speaker 4: to handle those sorts of pressures. I wouldn't be I
- 20:41Speaker 4: mean a typical day, I'm awake at quarter to five anyway,
- 20:45Speaker 4: So the hours don't make any difference to me because
- 20:48Speaker 4: I have a very set routine in the morning that
- 20:51Speaker 4: I adhere to, and it allows me to get to
- 20:53Speaker 4: this point of the day later in the day and
- 20:56Speaker 4: still be calm, still be focused, still be energetic, still
- 20:59Speaker 4: do all the things that I want to do and fulfill.
- 21:01Speaker 4: But I have to set that early in the morning.
- 21:05Speaker 4: I have to go through a very very long and
- 21:07Speaker 4: boring process of elements and sequence that set my mind up.
- 21:12Speaker 4: So I always say I work on me first, then
- 21:15Speaker 4: I work for other people second. So I work on
- 21:17Speaker 4: me in the morning and work on me daily, and
- 21:20Speaker 4: I do the things that I need to do physically,
- 21:22Speaker 4: mentally and spiritually, and then I.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Got to work.
- 21:24Speaker 4: So then when I walk into whatever situation it is,
- 21:28Speaker 4: I'm able to adapt and be calm and not necessarily passive.
- 21:34Speaker 4: I can dial right up, but I just have better
- 21:37Speaker 4: emotional control, which I don't reckon I have when I
- 21:39Speaker 4: was in breakfast. That was probably my greatest weakness when
- 21:42Speaker 4: I was doing breakfast is I was very very quick
- 21:44Speaker 4: to go volcanic, whereas now I just sort of see
- 21:48Speaker 4: things calmly and objectively view things and then make decisions.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Okay, great, So I'm taking notes and.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I came in and talk about cars, and I've given
- 21:57Speaker 4: you some life directors. If anything, I feel like your
- 22:00Speaker 4: new Anthony Robbins is what I am. I'll relesse the
- 22:03Speaker 4: DVD you can buy.
- 22:05Speaker 3: I know we're aman to talk about cars, but when
- 22:07Speaker 3: did that change for you. You mentioned it after you
- 22:09Speaker 3: didn't have it during breakfast radio.
- 22:11Speaker 2: When did it change?
- 22:12Speaker 4: I think part of it happened when I stopped doing
- 22:14Speaker 4: breakfast Radia. I think part of it happened when I
- 22:17Speaker 4: became a father. I think then I went through a
- 22:21Speaker 4: process a few years ago preparing for a television show
- 22:25Speaker 4: called Sas Australia. And that was a very very long
- 22:29Speaker 4: and difficult process for preparation which I took laser serious,
- 22:33Speaker 4: like I actually take everything in life, even fun, even comedy.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I take very very seriously. If I choose to apply
- 22:39Speaker 4: myself to something, I apply myself one hundred and ten
- 22:41Speaker 4: percent or I don't bother yeap so, and I'm very prepared.
- 22:45Speaker 4: So when I went on that, it was like six
- 22:47Speaker 4: to eight months worth of training in preparation before I
- 22:49Speaker 4: went in Australia. Yeah. So when I went in there,
- 22:52Speaker 4: like everyone was going, you know, the comedian he's watching
- 22:55Speaker 4: him is going to burn in two days. And I
- 22:57Speaker 4: was like, I will be at the end of this
- 23:00Speaker 4: and I will finish this course. There is no doubt
- 23:03Speaker 4: in my mind that I would finish this course.
- 23:04Speaker 1: You were so like I went into that show going
- 23:07Speaker 1: this is such a hilarious time because you're going to
- 23:09Speaker 1: remember it was kind of COVID and yeah, we were
- 23:12Speaker 1: handing celebrities machine guns. I saw this amazing, silly side
- 23:17Speaker 1: to the whole thing, like this is fucking amazing. You
- 23:19Speaker 1: come along and I'm like, this guy's like fall on,
- 23:23Speaker 1: that was one of the greatest things. And you were
- 23:26Speaker 1: You're right there at the very end, like it was incredible.
- 23:29Speaker 3: What.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just like it's a it's a physical ability,
- 23:35Speaker 4: but it's a mental practice that gets you through those
- 23:38Speaker 4: sorts of things and you know, getting you back to cars.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Like I used to care so much more about cars
- 23:44Speaker 4: and motorbikes several years ago than I do now. My
- 23:48Speaker 4: core values have changed enormously. Like if somebody said to me,
- 23:51Speaker 4: you know, you can have an five thousand, I go
- 23:54Speaker 4: obviously with a drop tank. Yeah, you know, it's it's
- 24:00Speaker 4: something that I still love, but I'm not as passionate
- 24:04Speaker 4: about owning things now as I am about doing things
- 24:08Speaker 4: and completing things. And that's been a big shift for me.
- 24:10Speaker 4: So I know, I had even this year, I had
- 24:12Speaker 4: two motorbikes. I sold two motorbikes. One was you know,
- 24:16Speaker 4: an old kind of classic and I just went, I'm
- 24:19Speaker 4: just not riding them. And I think if I'm not
- 24:22Speaker 4: riding them, then I'm not enjoying them. If I'm not
- 24:23Speaker 4: enjoying them, and somebody else should and that's for me,
- 24:26Speaker 4: that's what it's about. Like I said, I'm more fun
- 24:28Speaker 4: well focused on rather than I used to be. Like
- 24:30Speaker 4: I was that guy who just wanted to own twenty
- 24:33Speaker 4: five cars. Yep, I didn't care if I drove any
- 24:35Speaker 4: of them. I just wanted to own twenty five different cars,
- 24:39Speaker 4: and that was my higher purpose. Now I just have
- 24:42Speaker 4: a wagon. I've got an Audi a four wagon, and
- 24:44Speaker 4: I love it. It's like it it gets everything done for me,
- 24:48Speaker 4: and I enjoy it, you know. So I still love
- 24:51Speaker 4: driving cars, I still love I love riding motorbikes. But
- 24:56Speaker 4: I also like building businesses and creating new ven and
- 25:00Speaker 4: taking on new goals. So you know, you can't have everything.
- 25:04Speaker 4: You can't have all those toys and all those things
- 25:07Speaker 4: like cars and have that as you focus and give
- 25:11Speaker 4: them enough tension, because you know, a classic car is
- 25:13Speaker 4: like a child. You've got to look after it otherwise
- 25:16Speaker 4: you're not doing you know, duty to it. So for me,
- 25:18Speaker 4: it was like there has been a transition where I
- 25:20Speaker 4: sort of go, no, I'm more into experiencing things, creating things,
- 25:26Speaker 4: developing things, building things, making things than I am a
- 25:30Speaker 4: particularly unique things that I am about owning things. Having
- 25:35Speaker 4: said that, I am going to own an Aston Martin
- 25:38Speaker 4: one day, I just love them.
- 25:40Speaker 2: As a new one or an older one.
- 25:43Speaker 5: I'd like a new one please.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Wow.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Yeah they look they look under British racing green just
- 25:50Speaker 4: just tan interior, just death on wheels.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Actually, did I hear something about you doing up old
- 25:56Speaker 1: posty bikes? Is that you?
- 25:58Speaker 4: Yeah, with a friend of mine, Joan, we just did
- 26:01Speaker 4: it kind of like as a bit of a joke,
- 26:02Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden we had about six
- 26:03Speaker 4: of them. So there was a point there where I
- 26:05Speaker 4: owned I think eight motor bikes. So I told you, look,
- 26:08Speaker 4: you know, this is what happens when you get Bogan's money.
- 26:11Speaker 4: But yeah, we used to get oh posted bikes and
- 26:13Speaker 4: then strip them out, respray them and lose some of
- 26:17Speaker 4: the undercarriage, like the prop upstand. We'd get rid of
- 26:20Speaker 4: that and just have the kickstand instead, lighting them right
- 26:23Speaker 4: down so that we literally you could carry them upstairs.
- 26:26Speaker 5: And they were unreal.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Yeah, they were written up by a motor journalist and
- 26:32Speaker 4: they came in and borrowed one of the bikes and
- 26:35Speaker 4: he rang me up. At the end of the weekend,
- 26:36Speaker 4: he goes, Mate, I went, oh, no, he's crushed. They said, question,
- 26:43Speaker 4: can I keep this bike for a few more days?
- 26:46Speaker 4: Said yes, I thought he's having a lend and mate, seriously,
- 26:51Speaker 4: it is so much fun to write, so light and
- 26:54Speaker 4: it's easy, and it's nimble, and I put fat Kobby
- 26:57Speaker 4: tires on it so you could go roll over garters
- 26:59Speaker 4: and but you crash it, you own it.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Actually, speaking of creating, one thing I know you had
- 27:05Speaker 1: a big hand in was when you're at Triple M
- 27:08Speaker 1: the carbecue.
- 27:09Speaker 4: That was a great car. Somebody else owns that too,
- 27:13Speaker 4: but that was an x B. I think it was
- 27:17Speaker 4: an ex big yeah. And what I just had an
- 27:21Speaker 4: idea for making a car that could also be a barbecue,
- 27:26Speaker 4: because I thought that would be a great combination. But
- 27:28Speaker 4: I wanted it to look like the car from Mad Max.
- 27:31Speaker 5: Yes, that's right.
- 27:32Speaker 4: So I said, it's got to be resprayed, it's going
- 27:35Speaker 4: to be Matt Black, it's got to look like this.
- 27:38Speaker 4: And we spent a lot of money. When I say
- 27:40Speaker 4: were the radio station spent a fortune on it, but
- 27:43Speaker 4: it was actually for something we're doing with I think
- 27:46Speaker 4: it was with Meet and Livestock Australia and they were
- 27:50Speaker 4: looking for an idea and they are wonderful people to
- 27:52Speaker 4: work with and I was like, oh, well, I've got
- 27:53Speaker 4: this idea for this carbecue and they're like, oh, that's great.
- 27:57Speaker 4: And it made international news like it was on like
- 28:00Speaker 4: what's that one of the TV talk programs? I forgot
- 28:05Speaker 4: what they are. It was like a morning show in America,
- 28:09Speaker 4: the largest morning show in America was with a viewing
- 28:13Speaker 4: audience of like I think tens of minions. And I
- 28:16Speaker 4: was watching it on screen. Somebody showed me and they
- 28:19Speaker 4: were talking about this guy in Australia who had built
- 28:22Speaker 4: a barbecue in a car and how a novel was
- 28:25Speaker 4: like somebody regis is it regious?
- 28:27Speaker 5: And something like that? Anyway, watched you going, I'm that guy?
- 28:30Speaker 4: The guy they're talking about.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Why am I not in the shot? Why am I not.
- 28:34Speaker 4: In the shot? Why is the car in the shot?
- 28:36Speaker 5: And I'm not a shot? Yeah?
- 28:38Speaker 1: That was a cool car. Did that get all listener?
- 28:40Speaker 1: What happened with that?
- 28:41Speaker 3: No?
- 28:41Speaker 4: We kept it for a little while until the company
- 28:44Speaker 4: said to me, again, you've built something that's costing us money.
- 28:50Speaker 4: And we drove around a little bit for a while
- 28:52Speaker 4: and did some you know, some primal work, and then
- 28:54Speaker 4: eventually they flogged it off to private market and a
- 28:56Speaker 4: guy I think in Queensland border and he was wrapped.
- 28:59Speaker 4: But then he was again a car enthusiast. He wanted
- 29:02Speaker 4: to work on it. He wanted to look after it.
- 29:03Speaker 4: He loved the idea of it, but he wanted wanted
- 29:07Speaker 4: it for what it was. And I don't regret it
- 29:09Speaker 4: because if a car, I always think you a custodian
- 29:12Speaker 4: of a car. So have your time with it. When
- 29:15Speaker 4: you're not offering the car or anything, you should pass
- 29:17Speaker 4: it on. Yep, not about what the car is offering you.
- 29:19Speaker 4: If you're not offering the car, enough move it on.
- 29:22Speaker 3: So before we wrape up, what's you mentioned you liked
- 29:25Speaker 3: drinking when you were younger?
- 29:26Speaker 2: Has that finished?
- 29:26Speaker 1: Now?
- 29:26Speaker 2: Do you drink anymore?
- 29:27Speaker 3: No?
- 29:27Speaker 4: I still drink more than ever. I'm qualified wine joke.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Oh yes, of course. Yeah, wine's your thing now, Semilia and.
- 29:34Speaker 4: A wine joke. Yeah, So I've got an international standard whine.
- 29:37Speaker 4: I work one of my companies is called Grapes of Mirth,
- 29:40Speaker 4: and we do lascoal comedy events and festivals in wine
- 29:43Speaker 4: regions right around the country. That's what when I left
- 29:45Speaker 4: radio went and started that. That was the reason why
- 29:47Speaker 4: I kind of wound up radio, because they've done twenty
- 29:49Speaker 4: solid years of radio and felt like I was living
- 29:52Speaker 4: in a literal fish bowl. And I started grapes some
- 29:56Speaker 4: myth just before I finished up on radio, and that's
- 29:59Speaker 4: what I do. You know, we run festivals and it's awesome.
- 30:02Speaker 4: But yeah, I drink, but I'm very, very disciplined with alcohol.
- 30:06Speaker 4: So I like, I love wine. I love wine, I
- 30:10Speaker 4: love beer spirit, I'll drink everything. But because I work
- 30:16Speaker 4: in the winers room, because I've got qualifications, because I
- 30:18Speaker 4: do occasional judging and stuff like that, I think it's
- 30:21Speaker 4: really important to have the balance around it. So I
- 30:24Speaker 4: don't drink so much, like on a Wednesday or sometimes
- 30:27Speaker 4: have wine with my wife at home. But like, I
- 30:29Speaker 4: won't drink tonight it's a Thursday, I won't drink tonight.
- 30:32Speaker 4: I will drink on the weekend. I probably won't drink Friday,
- 30:35Speaker 4: but I will definitely drink on Saturday. And when I
- 30:37Speaker 4: say drink, I mean fucking everything.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Your wife goes into the bathroom, where's the domestos? I
- 30:45Speaker 1: thought that was Italian wine.
- 30:47Speaker 4: I exercise and meditate every single day, right, and this
- 30:49Speaker 4: is the way I do. And this is a car
- 30:52Speaker 4: reference for you, right. I say to people during the
- 30:55Speaker 4: week I treat myself like a Rolls Royce and on
- 30:57Speaker 4: the weekend, I treat myself like a high car.
- 31:00Speaker 1: You know the concept of Grapes of Mirth is it
- 31:05Speaker 1: is so cool. Like I I've seen gigs. If you
- 31:08Speaker 1: do people have like a flight of six wines.
- 31:10Speaker 4: That's my show. So that's an idiot's gode to Wine,
- 31:12Speaker 4: which is a festival show which has been touring now
- 31:14Speaker 4: for eighteen months and is going overseas now as well.
- 31:17Speaker 4: So that's run by Grapes of Mirth. So Grapes of
- 31:20Speaker 4: Mirth is the larger festival event, but Grapes of Myth
- 31:23Speaker 4: is also the company and has three partners in it,
- 31:26Speaker 4: and we all work together and.
- 31:29Speaker 5: We perform show. Well.
- 31:30Speaker 4: I perform the show called and Need It's Got to Wine,
- 31:32Speaker 4: which is where people taste six wines throughout the course
- 31:35Speaker 4: of the show. And it's unreal. I mean, it's been
- 31:37Speaker 4: going longer than any other live show ever done. It's
- 31:41Speaker 4: completely unique in the world, and we're touring it again.
- 31:43Speaker 4: We've been overseas with it, but we're going to do
- 31:45Speaker 4: some more extensive touring with it.
- 31:47Speaker 2: It's great.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Well, and you're right, you have to find a niche
- 31:50Speaker 3: like that, and everyone, well not everyone, but people that
- 31:53Speaker 3: do comedy do comedy. Whereas if it's around a thing
- 31:57Speaker 3: or an event that people are doing like it is,
- 32:00Speaker 3: no one's going to come and replicate that, or if
- 32:01Speaker 3: they do, it'll be shit.
- 32:02Speaker 4: But I don't think that would have much trouble beating it.
- 32:06Speaker 4: I do the show. It's good, but like it's like
- 32:09Speaker 4: a carried away. I don't think it's that big a challenge.
- 32:11Speaker 3: But I want to get into Well, I have a
- 32:13Speaker 3: shipload of wine and I've got a neighbor that has
- 32:15Speaker 3: a shipload of it.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Don't you drive by the way. I will say this,
- 32:18Speaker 4: though I'm extremely extremely disciplined around booze and cars, I
- 32:23Speaker 4: always have it. I've never been into it. I've never
- 32:26Speaker 4: thought it was a good idea and so like I
- 32:28Speaker 4: know that you go you make jokes about it, like,
- 32:30Speaker 4: of course you make jokes about it, but I never ever,
- 32:33Speaker 4: ever do booze and now I'm on.
- 32:35Speaker 2: The same page. And that's the thing.
- 32:36Speaker 3: A calibrated fucking alcohol meetup. They're like one hundred bucks
- 32:42Speaker 3: and if you've had a big night, it's so easy
- 32:44Speaker 3: to just check and you'll be okay. But yeah, what
- 32:47Speaker 3: is your recommendation for someone who wants to get into
- 32:49Speaker 3: wine and get a better understanding. What is the most
- 32:52Speaker 3: effective way to get across it without having to do
- 32:54Speaker 3: a six month course?
- 32:56Speaker 4: Well, I mean, you can do like kind of lower
- 32:59Speaker 4: level courses through the school that I've went through, which
- 33:02Speaker 4: is a West Set because it's internationally recognized. You don't
- 33:05Speaker 4: have to get to my level. I hold West Set three.
- 33:09Speaker 4: But you know what, just find a wine shop and
- 33:14Speaker 4: just go and have a chat to people in the
- 33:15Speaker 4: wine shop. They love talking about wine. Go to a
- 33:18Speaker 4: winery and go roll up to the cellar door and say,
- 33:21Speaker 4: tell me about these wines. I know nothing, and they
- 33:23Speaker 4: will go They will not make you feel bad, They
- 33:26Speaker 4: will embrace you and they go, right, we're going to
- 33:28Speaker 4: start with reasoning or we really like this, and they'll
- 33:32Speaker 4: talk you through it. Wine people, and particularly wine makers
- 33:36Speaker 4: and people who work at cellar doors, are far less
- 33:40Speaker 4: snobby and interested in the bullshit of wine than people
- 33:44Speaker 4: think they are. They are not the people who are
- 33:46Speaker 4: going on with that stuff. It's people who work. Often
- 33:49Speaker 4: I find people who work in media or press or
- 33:52Speaker 4: have got some skin in it too, or usually to
- 33:55Speaker 4: some people old dudes who just want people to feel
- 33:58Speaker 4: a little less not educated, but they like the power
- 34:03Speaker 4: that they wield with their own knowledge.
- 34:05Speaker 5: But some of the.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Most incredible minds, like literal masters of wine, which is
- 34:10Speaker 4: like extremely difficult to get. It's like a professor, just
- 34:16Speaker 4: really easy going people and they just talk about it
- 34:18Speaker 4: in really simple terms, like you know that tastes pretty lemony.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it does.
- 34:22Speaker 4: It's as simple as that.
- 34:23Speaker 5: That's because that's what's in there.
- 34:25Speaker 4: They don't bang on it and go, you know, soup
- 34:27Speaker 4: into bullshit. So yeah, just go to a bottle shop
- 34:30Speaker 4: and talk to them.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Yeah like the sound of that.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Not to drive through though, because I'm going to go
- 34:36Speaker 1: hang out with Dan Murphy right.
- 34:37Speaker 5: Now, baticalarly not at a Lamborghini.
- 34:39Speaker 4: I reckon anybody's going to be able to hear your order.
- 34:41Speaker 5: I'd like a cask of reasoning.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Just chuck your box a cooler bar in the bag,
- 34:46Speaker 1: that'd be great.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Thank you so much for coming in.
- 34:49Speaker 3: And this has been an absolute experiments.
- 34:54Speaker 4: Technically you've had a few issues, but you know what
- 34:56Speaker 4: your heart and your soul and then you've asked good
- 34:58Speaker 4: questions you care about. That's great, You've done your audience
- 35:01Speaker 4: of service. Well now I'm giving you guys seven and
- 35:04Speaker 4: a half.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Out of one hundred thousand. Is it is actually out
- 35:09Speaker 2: of a thousand. I got to.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Say, yeah, yeah, you go, you go.
- 35:16Speaker 2: No, I got to say.
- 35:19Speaker 3: I was really blown away by that chat, just because
- 35:24Speaker 3: you know, I thought, you know, I will chat cars
- 35:25Speaker 3: and stuff, but he is really he's a really switched
- 35:29Speaker 3: on guy.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and he is.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Yeah, the stuff that he was talking about, he just
- 35:33Speaker 3: is a laser focused and very intense. And yeah, I
- 35:37Speaker 3: was just I don't know if mesmerized is the right word.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I think at one point you took your pants off
- 35:43Speaker 1: and you fell quite in love. You wanted to embrace. Yeah,
- 35:47Speaker 1: legend of a bloke harm But you know, the weird
- 35:48Speaker 1: thing is I wasn't expecting him to be so I
- 35:51Speaker 1: guess switched on back in the radio days. He's kind
- 35:55Speaker 1: of a manic dude. Like it was almost this this
- 35:59Speaker 1: this thing of chaos would come into the room. But
- 36:03Speaker 1: nowadays Merrick Watts is calm, measured, he's articulate, he's focused.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Often feels like the smartest guy in the room. Probably is,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but especially when you're in the room. Yeah, holy yeah
- 36:16Speaker 1: at your face.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Yeah, but no, that was a really awesome chat. So
- 36:20Speaker 3: us shoot us an email let us know what you
- 36:23Speaker 3: thought about that. Contact at the Driversshow dot com today
- 36:27Speaker 3: you if you're listening to this and you enjoyed that
- 36:29Speaker 3: chat or our chat last week with Bev Brock, please
- 36:32Speaker 3: make sure you leave five star rating for us.
- 36:34Speaker 2: We do really appreciate it.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 3: I know we keep saying this, but we need to
- 36:38Speaker 3: give some merchandise away.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I actually got an email. Oh do you want to
- 36:41Speaker 2: read it? Yeah, let's quickly do that.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Okay, So let's run through some of these And I'm
- 36:45Speaker 3: sorry we haven't read these apt for a little while,
- 36:48Speaker 3: but this one is from Chrissy goes Hey, Gordy and Paul.
- 36:51Speaker 3: One of the best episodes yet with John Kodogan. Something
- 36:54Speaker 3: I'd be interested in hearing you guys talk about is
- 36:57Speaker 3: what are the best non CBT cars on the market.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Thanks, Chris. You don't have to be more.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Specific with that because there are stacks of them on
- 37:04Speaker 3: the market, and stacks of different segment So get back
- 37:06Speaker 3: in touch with us and let us know which segment
- 37:09Speaker 3: you're after.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I think that would be really nailed down price point
- 37:13Speaker 1: and everything.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Yeah, another one from Craig. Hey, guys, love the show.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Thank you. I just wanted to let you know a story.
- 37:19Speaker 4: He said.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I purchased a golf Life.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Wagon early last year, but in the end had to
- 37:23Speaker 3: wait nine months to get it and so only received
- 37:25Speaker 3: it in November. I've since changed jobs, which comes with
- 37:28Speaker 3: the company car. I went back to Volkswagen and asked
- 37:31Speaker 3: what they would be willing to pay for it, and
- 37:33Speaker 3: they offered thirty K, twenty k less than what he
- 37:36Speaker 3: paid six months ago. Their response was, when he asked
- 37:40Speaker 3: if that price was correct, that we have to make money,
- 37:43Speaker 3: and he goes anyway, if you don't want to test
- 37:45Speaker 3: drive of a golf Wagon, I still have one. I
- 37:48Speaker 3: honestly believe outside of its over aggressive safety stuff, it's
- 37:51Speaker 3: a great car. Why people get SUVs with less internal
- 37:53Speaker 3: space makes a little sense.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Keep up the good work.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that is a bit of a funny one.
- 38:00Speaker 1: It's a shame he's selling it too, because I actually
- 38:02Speaker 1: think they're a great little car.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think they are too, and I feel
- 38:05Speaker 3: bad that he's getting screwed around, but unfortunately that is
- 38:08Speaker 3: how the used car system works.
- 38:10Speaker 2: And at the moment, used car prices are going down
- 38:12Speaker 2: as well.
- 38:12Speaker 1: So yeah, I think the whole market is starting to
- 38:16Speaker 1: definitely correct itself.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Now this one's this one's great. I'm got to read
- 38:22Speaker 3: this as fast as I can. It's song lyrics just
- 38:25Speaker 3: for us.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Okay, Well, all right, slim Shady. I think I know
- 38:28Speaker 1: what you're going to do here. We should play we
- 38:30Speaker 1: should play a little beat. In fact, I will get
- 38:33Speaker 1: our production guy, DJ Diamond Davis please.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Don't beat box. Sorry you're embarrassing, but.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I'll get him to put the beat under it.
- 38:39Speaker 2: And you do your Okay.
- 38:42Speaker 3: So subject was partly you still ain't called me, question mark,
- 38:45Speaker 3: and I thought this more spam.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Come on, drop the mic, let's go.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Here we go, Dear Pavel, I wrote to you, but
- 38:51Speaker 2: you still ain't calling.
- 38:52Speaker 7: I left my phone, my grinder link, and my Quantus
- 38:55Speaker 7: Frequent flyer status at the bottom.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I sent your two dms back in autumn. It's not
- 39:00Speaker 2: a goddam.
- 39:01Speaker 3: There probably was a problem with the Graham or some shit.
- 39:04Speaker 3: But anyways, fuck it. What's been up man?
- 39:06Speaker 2: How's your daughter?
- 39:07Speaker 7: My girl friend's pregnant too. I've had to be a
- 39:10Speaker 7: father if I have a daughter. Guess what I'm gonna
- 39:13Speaker 7: call it. I'm a name of Donna. I heard about
- 39:19Speaker 7: your comrade Gordy too.
- 39:20Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 39:21Speaker 7: I heard a friend selling his stinger too because of
- 39:24Speaker 7: some picture didn't want him. I know you probably hear
- 39:28Speaker 7: this every day, but I'm your biggest fan. I got
- 39:30Speaker 7: the pre pew best ship that you did with John Canogan.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I got a hard trive full of your reviews and
- 39:37Speaker 2: your pictures.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Man.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I like the ship you did with hell Boars too.
- 39:41Speaker 5: That ship was fat.
- 39:42Speaker 7: Anyways, I hope you get this man hit me back
- 39:46Speaker 7: just to chat. Truly, yours your biggest fan that was
- 39:50Speaker 7: from Duncan. Duncan has to get some merder.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Oh my god, yeah we should. We should get a
- 39:55Speaker 1: bloody he made up for here. Maybe you and him
- 39:57Speaker 1: can do a rap battle.
- 40:00Speaker 2: That was bloody unreal. So thank you for the earbails. Guys.
- 40:04Speaker 3: If someone does have anything else they want to send through,
- 40:07Speaker 3: please do please do.
- 40:09Speaker 1: That sort of stuff is great. That is going to
- 40:12Speaker 1: get you a shit ton of merch. Yeah, please actually
- 40:16Speaker 1: do that, so duncan.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I'm going to get Gordy to reach out to you
- 40:21Speaker 3: and get your address and stuff so he can send
- 40:23Speaker 3: you some of our merch.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I think that would be I love how you've just
- 40:27Speaker 1: you should play AFL. You've got a great fucking handball.
- 40:30Speaker 2: No, no, not sport.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I'll quickly I know this episode in now going forever,
- 40:35Speaker 3: but I'll quickly read out some feedback that we got
- 40:37Speaker 3: in ratings. Here we go, a bit of a shaky start,
- 40:42Speaker 3: but great now. That was from Leckford, Gordy and Paul.
- 40:46Speaker 3: I've been listening to The Driver's Show, to The Driver's
- 40:49Speaker 3: Show and now No I think you're What he meant
- 40:52Speaker 3: to say was I've been listening to The Drive Show
- 40:54Speaker 3: and now The Driver's Show since it started. I have
- 40:56Speaker 3: to say there were times at the start I was
- 40:58Speaker 3: going to unsubscribe, thinking it was a bit crass and
- 41:01Speaker 3: I was expecting another car expert podcast.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Yesh, I wondered.
- 41:06Speaker 1: An actual automotive experience.
- 41:09Speaker 2: However, I have to say the change.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Of format, including guests like John Kdogan in the last
- 41:13Speaker 3: episode and Brendan Jones the one before I got me sold.
- 41:17Speaker 3: It's still very lighthearted and crass at times, but it's
- 41:19Speaker 3: a lot more enjoyable and entertaining. Keep up the good work,
- 41:22Speaker 3: and the odd mention of Donna still makes me laugh.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Another one from zot zot good blend, four stars only
- 41:29Speaker 3: how about we changed that to a five? Mate wrote nice,
- 41:32Speaker 3: She wrote nice blend. They wrote a nice blend of
- 41:34Speaker 3: banter and info that I actually find useful and interesting.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Episode with Paul Cardigan switches me.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Away from pure EV's a few John and then I'll
- 41:44Speaker 3: rebomber out here. Two more actually, one from Mardy three
- 41:48Speaker 3: one ninety five my favorite podcast. Eagerly look forward to
- 41:52Speaker 3: this dropping every fortnight. And then last one I read
- 41:55Speaker 3: out from Toby the Great okayv title legends. Uh huh
- 42:01Speaker 3: yep present awesome podcasts. Keep up the great work, way
- 42:05Speaker 3: better than the lame at Drive podcast.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Now hang on. I will not have a bad word
- 42:10Speaker 1: said about our colleagues.
- 42:11Speaker 3: No, mainly because of legal issues. But yes I didn't
- 42:15Speaker 3: say that.
- 42:15Speaker 1: That's exactly right.
- 42:16Speaker 2: I've run out of money. This was a fun show.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Fuck up Scalore. Yes, thank you for listening, and please
- 42:23Speaker 1: leave us five stars and get in touch.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Probably won't after you okay,
