- 1:49Batting eighth in catching Hawk Taylor is his single that got the Mets back in the ballgame in the ninth inning and later on set it up for the Mets to win the second game of the series against the Giants last night.
- 2:01And he'll be doing the catching batting ninth and pitching Dennis Rybant and the Mets against the Giants have won nine of 17 games played.
- 2:09They have since at least a tie with the San Francisco Giants for the overall series of this season.
- 2:17Right here in Candlestick Park the Mets have won five of eight plays so they have since the win against the Giants here in San Francisco in their overall efforts this season.
- 2:27For the Giants Tito Fuentes will lead off and play shortstop. Batting second playing right field Ken Henderson. Batting third and center field Willie Mays and now Willie Mays leading the Giants out in the field.

- 3:00Batting ninth Juan usually makes his appearance by running out to the pitching mound. Marichal is looking for his twenty third win.
- 3:07He has a record of twenty two and six and against the Mets he has won seventeen and has never been made. The Mets have knocked him out. They have never been able to pin a loss on Juan Marichal.
- 3:18This broadcast comes to you through the courtesy of Ryan Gold Breweries Incorporated, Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation and the Sun Oil Company.
- 3:26Now Juan Marichal getting the hand as he runs out to the pitching mound. Coming now with him to take their respective positions.
- 3:33Wadi Herzog the third base coach for the Mets. He was the one who set up the stealer home for Bud Harrelson last night that proved to be the winning run of the ball game in the top of the ninth.
- 3:44And coaching at first base Yogi Berra. The umpires for the game today. Harry Wendell staff behind home plate.
- 3:51Shag Crawford at first base. Ed Vargo at second base and Doug Harvey at third. This broadcast is being beamed around the world through the services of the Armed Forces Radio and a salute from us here at Cadillac to all of you.
- 4:06Defensively for the Giants it's Tom Holler catching at first base Willie McCovey at second base Howlander. Kido Fuentes the shortstop and Jim Davenport at third. Jim Rayhart who is the regular third baseman is being wrested by manager Herman Frank.
- 4:22He has had a great record against the Mets this year. He has hit a total of eight home runs against the Mets pitching.
- 4:27In left field a Sousa Lou. In center field Willie Mays checking the flags as the wind blows toward right field and playing at right field Ken Henderson. Breeze is fairly calm right now.
- 4:42Although there is the prevailing wind of about five to ten miles an hour blowing out toward right.
- 4:48Now the Mets have their leadoff batter in the batter's box. But Harrelson the shortstop he'll be followed by Chuck Yiller and then Ken Boyer. Harrelson batting 196 with no home runs and three runs batted in.
- 5:02Since joining the Mets from Jacksonville he has stolen five bases in five tries.
- 5:09Switch hitter batting from the left hand side and one Marichal into the windup in the first pitch of the ball game and has taken over the outside corner called a strike.
- 5:18Last ball by Marichal and on the pitch Harrelson was moving up as though to bunt.
- 5:23Third baseman Jim Davenport playing about 80 feet away right near the line to guard against the bunt.
- 5:28Willie McCovey also in about 80 feet away right on top of the left hand batter.
- 5:33Now the one strike delivery a curveball that breaks in and is called strike two.
- 5:39Marichal with a variety of pitches the big curve, the slow curve, the hard curve, the slider, the sidearm fastball, overhand fastball. He throws from all around.
- 5:50Fine control and at two strikes his pitch back is the overhand curve. It's popped out towards the second baseman taking on the first stop by Hal O'Neill. His throw to first base picks up the first out of the ball game and that will bring up Chuck Yiller.
- 6:06Chuck playing at second base against the right hand pitching. The Mets are trying to get as much left hand bat in the ball game as they can find.
- 6:14We have Ken Boyer as the right hand batter and Cleon Jones as the right hand batter along with Hawk Taylor in their first eight men.
- 6:30Marichal left hander with a 3-0-8 average and the first pitch to him is a ball that's down low curveball breaking too far down below the knees. This ball won the first ball of the game thrown by Marichal.
- 6:46Marichal won back again. This time the curveball has hit on the ground foul towards Yogi Berra. Count evens out at 1-1. The Giants had won last night's ball game. Marichal was to have skipped the Mets and pitched against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 7:01They come in here tomorrow from Los Angeles but with the Giants losing, manager Herman Franks pushed Marichal in his regular turn, a swing and a miss at strike two. As he felt he could take no chances against even losing a ball game after his loss last night.
- 7:27One ball, two strikes, the right hander back to Chuck Hiller and the pitch is popped off the hands toward the shortstop. Fido Fuentes shading from the sun back on the edge of the outfield grass and he picks it up for the out.
- 7:40Throw two away. Two put away easily by Marichal. It brings up Ken Boyer who has a nine game hitting streak going.
- 7:51Pittsburgh at Los Angeles starting pitchers of that ball game, Tommy Sisk going for the Pirates. He has a record of 10-3 and he'll be opposed by Joe Muller who has won two and lost three.
- 8:02And this is a must game for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They have lost the first two of the three game series.
- 8:07First pitch to Boyer drills deep to left field. A wedding there as the wind holds the ball up is a two saloon. He makes the catch and that retires the side.
- 8:17So Marichal retires his first three men and the Mets are out in the top of the first with no score and the Giants now coming to bat.
- 8:29Going to the bottom half of the first, the final game in this series between the Mets and Giants and the final game of the year between the Mets and Giants, Dennis Rybman taking his warm up pitches.
- 8:40At the same time against San Francisco he defeated them by a score of two to one holding the Giants to five hits. Rybman on that date beat Gaylord Perry.
- 8:49So he is now taking on Juan Marichal. Dennis with a fine record of 11 wins and seven losses. He has won more games as a right hand pitcher for the Mets than any other Mets pitcher.
- 9:02He's 25 years of age. 511, 175 pounds. He lives in Long Island. He is 2-0 over the Giants this year and has a lifetime record in the major leagues of 13 wins and 15 losses.
- 9:18And his first pitch, Tito Fuentes, is a curve ball outside for a ball. Fuentes batting 255 with seven home runs and 34 runs batted in, a right hand batter.
- 9:28He'll be followed by Ken Henderson and Willie Mays. And the next pitch is call of strike. Carl Rybman has a count of one and one.
- 9:37Rybman has never been beaten by the Giants. He has won three and lost none. His 1965 record in the major leagues, one win and three losses.
- 9:49And at one-one the pitch to Fuentes is called strike two.
- 9:54Dennis credits his success this year to the fact that he has learned to move the ball in and out rather than up and down.
- 10:03And he tries to work low all the time. And he will be the first Mets pitcher to ever win more than 10 games and end the season with a winning record.
- 10:13One-two pitch is lined out toward short, cut off by Bud Harrelson. He goes over to first base, not in time, a face-off.
- 10:27Bud Harrelson going back to second base, came up with the ball and then fired to first base but missed his man by just a fraction of a step.
- 10:35So the first hit of the ball game, the first basemanter, as the leadoff batter for the Giants, Tito Fuentes, beats out the hit and brings up Ken Henderson.
- 10:49Henderson, a left hand batter against right hand pitching. He has an average of 313 with no home runs and no runs batted in.
- 10:58Henderson has been at bat 16 times with five hits. One of the hits, a two-base hit, another a triple.
- 11:05Fuentes with a short lead at first, now moving up. And the first pitch to Henderson is outside for a ball.
- 11:16Mets have Eddie Crane pool at first base, Chuck Hiller at second base, Bud Harrelson at short, and Ken Boyer at third. The catcher is Hawk Taylor.
- 11:25Ryvon throws to first base, Fuentes back ahead of the tag. In the outfield, Johnny Lewis in left field, Cleon Jones in center field, and now Lupo on right.
- 11:34Now the pitch, hit out toward the third base side of home plate in foul territory.
- 11:40Ball dribbled out and Hawk Taylor bouncing out to try and get the ball in fair territory but it never got back in.
- 11:47Counted one ball and one strike.
- 11:52The Giants have played 24 games on Saturdays this year and they have won eight and lost 16.
- 11:58Their worst record throughout any of the days in the week.
- 12:05So seldom on Saturdays.
- 12:09Now the 1-1 pitch, swung on and missed at strike two.
- 12:14On deck, Willie Mays.
- 12:20Ryvon checks out his outfield, now turns back to home plate to take the signs from his catcher.
- 12:28Mets have their infield shortened up against Henderson.
- 12:34And the next delivery is grounded out to second, a tough chance for two.
- 12:37Hiller goes to the shortstop at second base for the fourth play there but no throw on to first base.
- 12:44And the Mets pick up their first out.
- 12:48And that brings up Willie Mays.
- 13:04Willie Mays, hitting 293 with 34 home runs and 94 runs batted in.
- 13:12Willie straddling the plate and as he moved his bat back he hit Octator's grub.
- 13:19Of course if he did that swinging it would be a catcher's bot.
- 13:24With the ball thrown for the pitcher, down ball to second, a good chance for two.
- 13:27The ball is kicked by Chuck Hiller and picked up by Bud Harrelson.
- 13:31He steps on the bag at second base for the fourth play and then throws on the first and he almost picked up Willie Mays.
- 13:37Chuck Hiller had an easy chance for a double play and couldn't find the ball.
- 13:41He bobbled the ball and then when it went down to the ground he kicked it.
- 13:44Unfortunately for the Mets he kicked it right towards Bud Harrelson.
- 13:47He picked it up about two steps from the bag, stepped on the bag and fired on to first base.
- 13:54So a chance for two missed but then a good play to be lucky enough to come up with a fourth play for the second out of the inning.
- 14:01Now the batter will be Willie McCovey.
- 14:07Willie batting 296 with 30 home runs and 83 runs batted in.
- 14:11Mays draws the throw at first base, gets back safely.
- 14:14Now another one and Mays has to sort of fall down to get back as he was trying to move off the bag.
- 14:21And the pitch of the plate is outside and it's called a ball.
- 14:25On the pitch Willie McCovey was stepping out of the batter's box but time was not called by Harry Wendelstadt.
- 14:35If Dennis Ryburn had been able to get the ball in the strike zone he would have had an easy strike.
- 14:42Now Dennis sets up again and throws the first base again and Willie Mays just gets back.
- 14:49Ball is dropped by Craneball and Willie Mays picked it up and handed it to him.
- 15:00Willie has stolen five bases this year, had one last night.
- 15:04The next pitch to the plate is outside, it's ball two.
- 15:07McCovey had a tremendous home run last night that was aided by the jet stream that was blowing out toward right field.
- 15:13The ball went over the bleacher area, traveled somewhere around 500 feet.
- 15:17The wind was blowing about 35 to 40 miles an hour at times last night with fog ripping down throughout the game.
- 15:25Right here though with the fog gone the temperature is 71 degrees.
- 15:30The 2-0 pitch is taken outside and low on it's ball three.
- 15:34The linemen pitching carefully to Willie McCovey with Willie Mays at first base falls behind three balls and no strikes.
- 15:41Jim Davenport a right hand batter is on deck.
- 15:44No score in the ball game, two men out in the bottom half of the first.
- 15:52And then the 3-0 pitch is over the outside corner, knee high, a called strike, three balls and one strike.
- 16:04Mets have Bud Harrelson at shortstop almost behind the bag at second as they have shifted around on McCovey.
- 16:10Now again a throw to first and Mays back easily.
- 16:14Willie has not taken a big lead.
- 16:18He's running on the 3-1 pitch but it is outside ball four so Mays goes down to second base as Willie McCovey draws the walk.
- 16:27That will bring up Jim Davenport.
- 16:40And giving the starting lineup at the start of the ball game Mays draws another throw at second base.
- 16:45This time as Jack Killer comes over to cover gets back safely.
- 16:49We gave a lineup that had Davenport batting in the seventh position just before the ball game.
- 16:54A lineup for a change and he has been moved into the fifth position.
- 16:59So to correct the lineup here's the first pitch to Davenport outside at ball one.
- 17:04Change Jim Davenport to the fifth batter and put Jesusalu who was batting fifth into the sixth position.
- 17:14That drops Tom Howler on down to the seventh position.
- 17:21Next pitch to the plate is Low and they got two balls and no strikes.
- 17:28Davenport batting 242.
- 17:31Nine home runs and 29 runs batted in.
- 17:33Back at the start of the season he hit a home run in the 17th inning to beat the Mets in their very first game with a job.
- 17:39Now the next delivery outside at ball three.
- 17:43Davenport driving now running into difficulties.
- 17:50And the next pitch to the plate is a strike.
- 17:52So they count three balls and one strike on Davenport.
- 17:56No score in the ball game but the Giants threatening here in the bottom half of the first.
- 17:59Runners at first and second.
- 18:04Three one pitch with the runners going it's swung on and foul tipped.
- 18:08And it's strike two and Willie Mays who had a good jump.
- 18:12And then it goes on back to second base and Willie McCovey behind him back to first.
- 18:16The ball had been missed.
- 18:19Mays and McCovey would have moved in into second and third on a double steal.
- 18:25And Rybham before pitching to the plate moves the runners back by stepping off the mound.
- 18:29And his next pitch to the plate and the runners going to call strike three and Davenport doesn't like the call.
- 18:35That strikeout retired the side the first one in the ball game for Dennis Rybham and it was a big one on the three two pitch.
- 18:44No runs one hit no errors a walk and two men left off.
- 18:48And the score at the end of one the Mets nothing the Giants nothing.
- 18:58The teams changed positions now with the Giants going out the Mets coming up for the second time and removed to the top of the second.
- 19:06First man up for the Mets is Al Luco and the first pitch by Juan Marichal is called a strike.
- 19:11In that Philly Houston game Rick Wise started for the Phillies.
- 19:15Now pitching is Morse in place of Rovannick who also was in the ball game.
- 19:19Norm Miller home run the third with two on.
- 19:23Larry Dirkert pitching for the Astros.
- 19:25Now the next delivery to the plate called a ball. It's one ball and one strike.
- 19:29No score on this ball game.
- 19:31Let's go on to play a doubleheader in Houston tomorrow.
- 19:35First game will be televised.
- 19:37Both games of course on radio.
- 19:39Doug McGraw and Nolan Ryan pitching for the Mets.
- 19:42A hard swing by Luco and it's strike two.
- 19:45One ball and two strikes.
- 19:46Game time tomorrow will be at three twenty five New York time.
- 19:50Dave Justy and Bob Rusla to schedule pitches for the Astros.
- 19:55Now an overhand curve flung on a miss strike three.
- 19:58Marichal picks up his first strikeout.
- 20:03Say youth opportunity depends on education.
- 20:06The more you learn, the more you'll learn.
- 20:09So stay in school and prepare yourself for a really good job.
- 20:12You'll be glad you did.
- 20:17Now the batter is Eddie Craneball. Eddie batting two forty four with fifteen home runs and fifty four runs better than.
- 20:23He leads the club in home runs with his fifteen and he swings and fouls the first pitch down in the dirt.
- 20:28It's strike one.
- 20:30No score on the ball game. The Mets against the Johns.
- 20:33And one Marichal with his one strike delivery this time missing long away.
- 20:37Count Evans out. It's one ball and one strike.
- 20:39Final score. Boston beat the Angels three to one.
- 20:42The winning pitcher was Dennis Bennett with help from John Wyatt.
- 20:46The losing pitcher was George Brunette.
- 20:49George Thomas, Yastremski and Rodgers home run. All with no one on.
- 20:54Now the next delivering overhand curve that's hit out into right field for a base hit.
- 20:59Eddie Craneball goes to first base and holds there and the Mets get their first base hit in the ball game.
- 21:08That'll bring up Cleon Jones.
- 21:11One point one seven two. Cleon Jones.
- 21:21Cleon hitting two seventy seven with eight home runs and fifty one runs better than.
- 21:27Right hand better. Both sides with a base hit now.
- 21:32One hot in the top of the second.
- 21:35And the first pitch to Jones is a high fly ball hit back of first base coming in from his right field position.
- 21:42Ken Henderson and he makes the catch and foul territory.
- 21:47Craneball stays at first base.
- 21:49And now the Giants have two Mets put away with Johnny Lewis coming up for the Mets.
- 21:56Number twenty four on the left of the field is Johnny Lewis.
- 22:01Johnny has been a bat a hundred and fifty four times with thirty one hits.
- 22:05That puts his average at two oh one.
- 22:07Five home runs and nineteen runs batted in.
- 22:09And he swings at the first pitch an overhand curve ball at strike one.
- 22:13No score in the ball game. Two men out in the top of the second.
- 22:17Juan Marichal against Dennis Riven.
- 22:20One strike delivery is swung on a miss at strike two. That time a fastball.
- 22:26Craneball at first and the two strike pitch swung on a miss to retire the side.
- 22:30Two strikeouts in the inning for Juan Marichal his first and second in the ball game.
- 22:36No runs one hit no errors and one man left on.
- 22:40And the score at the end of one and a half innings the Mets nothing the Giants nothing.
- 22:45Sage you ever stop to think of how many lonesome travelers there are here in yonder and just how thirsty they get.
- 22:54Well I am a lonely and a lonesome traveler I am a lonely and a lonesome traveler I am a lonely and a lonesome traveler I've been a traveling on.
- 23:09I travel here and then I travel.
- 23:11From California to New York the American folk singer travels here and yonder carrying with him the music of the whole world and its peoples.
- 23:21And sometimes when the traveling gets thirsty he puts down his guitar and accompanies himself with a cold beer maybe Rheingold.
- 23:31And in New York City where more songs and travelers stop than anywhere else in the world more people buy Rheingold extra dry than any other beer.
- 23:41How come? Maybe it's the Oregon Hops we use. Who knows? But we must be doing something right.
- 23:50Traveling on.
- 23:52Going to the bottom half of the second inning Dennis Riven pitching for the Mets.
- 23:56No score in the ball game and the Giants coming up with Jesus Alou.
- 24:03Jesus batting for the first time is batting 238th here with 25 home runs and 59 runs batted in.
- 24:10He'll be followed by Tom Haller and then Hal Lanier.
- 24:13Riven all set to go and the first pitch is a change up that's too low it's ball one.
- 24:19In the first inning first man up Tito Fuentes beat out a base hit to deep short.
- 24:25Back of second base.
- 24:28On the shortstop side Henderson forced him at second base.
- 24:32Willie Mays forced Henderson to second base.
- 24:35There's a base hit to right field by Jesus Alou.
- 24:37He goes to first base and holds there as Aloukpo takes the drive on one hop and throws on in.
- 24:44After Willie McCovey had walks Mays going down to second.
- 24:47Dennis Riven struck out Jim Davenport on a 3-2-6.
- 24:51Now the second hit for the Giants in the ball game and for the second time in two innings they have their lead batter on at first base.
- 24:58And coming up for the Giants is Tom Haller.
- 25:01There's a ground ball down to second base.
- 25:04Chuck Killer has it goes over to the shortstop covering at second base.
- 25:08Bud Harrelson takes the throw and gets out of the way as Alou slides into him.
- 25:12But the fourth play is called at second base with no throw on the first.
- 25:16Haller before hitting into the fourth play with 25 home runs and 59 runs batted in batting 238.
- 25:25I believe he gave Jesus Alou a home run.
- 25:30Incorrectly he's had one home run and 18 runs batted in with a 261 average.
- 25:39Now the batter is the second baseman Haller there.
- 25:42No score in the game.
- 25:43One man out, bottom half of the second.
- 25:47A nearer right hand batter and a pitch back to play and grouped into center field strongly.
- 25:53Leigh-Anne Jones moves in.
- 25:56And he makes the catch for the second out of the inning.
- 26:00Haller back to first base and it brings up Warren Maritow.
- 26:10Warren hitting 242. He's been at bat 99 previous times with 24 hits.
- 26:15Four of them doubles and he has driven in 11 runs.
- 26:18You cannot take him too lightly.
- 26:25No score in the game.
- 26:26Two men out, bottom half of the second.
- 26:28And the first pitch to Maritow has swung on a miss.
- 26:31Low curve ball and Warren fooled completely.
- 26:35At the end of one.
- 26:38The Pirates after scoring a run in the first inning off of Joe Mueller are tied up by the Dodgers as they score a run off Tommy Siss.
- 26:45So it's a 1-1 game going to the top of the second.
- 26:50Now the one strike pitch just outside, ball one.
- 26:54One ball, one strike.
- 26:57We'll have all the scores all the way around the national and the American League at the end of this inning.
- 27:10Another football final. Michigan State 28, North Carolina State 10.
- 27:23They've been taking a lot of time right now before getting set to pitch again to Warren Maritow.
- 27:32And the second baser on fire, Ed Vargo, turns it around and tries to speed up the ball game.
- 27:41Now he's set. And the 1-1 pitch, a change up top foul back home plate out of play.
- 27:47So Dennis has a count his way, one ball and two strikes.
- 27:58The Mets and Giants had a tremendous year at J Stadium drawing 399,166 paid customers.
- 28:13Now a swing and a miss at strike three. Warren Maritow struck out to retire the side.
- 28:20No runs, one hit. No errors, one man left on.
- 28:24And the score at the end of two, the Giants nothing, the Mets nothing.
- 28:33In other games in the national and the American League going to the bottom half of the ninth inning,
- 28:39the St. Louis Cardinals leading Chicago by a score of 6-4.
- 28:46Wodershek now pitching for the Cardinals. Dick Hughes was the starting pitcher.
- 28:54Ken Holtzman the starting pitcher for Chicago and Henley in the ball game in the eighth inning.
- 29:00Now it's Warren Maritow to start off here in the top of the third.
- 29:03And his first pitch is a sidearm pitch that's called a strike.
- 29:06The batter is Hawk Taylor, Hawk batting 189 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in.
- 29:12It was his single last night in the ninth inning to put the Mets back in the ball game.
- 29:16And now he drives one to the left. Azeusa Lou comes in, misjudged the ball and one-hands it
- 29:21as he kept it from going for a double.
- 29:24Line shot to left field, Azeusa Lou coming in, almost ran under.
- 29:29Hawk Taylor going down for the first out here in the top of the third and that brings up Dennis Rivett.
- 29:47Rivett has a 172 average with 10 hits and 58 times up.
- 29:52And he takes the first pitch, it's called a strike.
- 29:56Now the umpire is shaking his head. So it is not a strike but it's called a ball.
- 30:06Warren Maritow questioning the call and getting the head shake for the fact that it was not a strike but a ball.
- 30:14Now upon attempt and the ball hit off to the foul side, it's one ball and one strike.
- 30:23In the St. Louis Chicago game, Phillips has hit a homer in the ninth inning with no one on for the Cubs.
- 30:30The Cubs now training by one as they bat in the bottom half of the ninth.
- 30:40One ball, one strike, Maritow back again to Rivett.
- 30:45The pitch is lined through the hole between third and short of base hit.
- 30:49Rivett rounds his first base going down the line in a hurry and then holds there as the throw comes in from Hey-Tsu-Salu.
- 30:56So the Mets have their second hit against the Giants. It's all even to two of base with no score.
- 31:01And Bud Harrelson comes up for the second time.
- 31:11Bud Grunner down to second base his first time up.
- 31:14It went off the handle that was sort of a slowly hit line drive and the second base from Lanier had an easy play at first running.
- 31:23First pitch going this time is Bunn and Fowl at strike one.
- 31:26Bud was bunning for a base hit not to sacrifice.
- 31:31One out in the top of the third.
- 31:34Davenport defends against him at third base about 80 feet away near the line.
- 31:39Next pitch is Bunn and Fowl again. Strike two.
- 31:46Bud in last nice ball game showed some muscle. He had two triples. He's had three since he came up from Jacksonville.
- 31:56One was to right center, the other to left center.
- 31:59He has good speed and he pops one into shallow center going back into a position back of second base is Cito Puente and he makes the catch.
- 32:08Puente was looking as though he might drop the ball but there would be no advantage there.
- 32:15He had then a chance to make a fourth play which would leave Harrelson a very fast man on.
- 32:24Now the batter is Chuck Hiller.
- 32:30Chuck pops the short his first time up and he takes the first pitch outside at the ball.
- 32:45Marichal back again and the curveball is grounded out toward short.
- 32:49A tough play for Puente as his quick throw to first base is not in time.
- 32:55A tough play at second base as the second baseman, Howell Nehrer, was playing over towards the first base side at second.
- 33:03And Dennis Ribant beat him to second base so Puente's had no other choice as he took that ball that was hit out toward the deep part of the shortstop side and threw over to first base but not in time.
- 33:15Well the Mets have runners at first and second the first time they've had two on in this ball game.
- 33:19And the batter is Ken Boyer who flat out to the left field his first time up.
- 33:23Boyer brought a nine game hitting streak into this ball game.
- 33:26And one Marichal with the first pitch and Boyer takes it over the outside corner for a called strike.
- 33:34Cubs fell short as they got a run in the ninth and the Cardinals beat Chicago 65.
- 33:39Winning pitcher was Dennis in relief.
- 33:41The losing pitcher was Holtzman.
- 33:43Shannon and Phillips home run.
- 33:45Now it's swinging at an overhand curve at strike two.
- 33:57Houston leads Philadelphia by a score of nine to two after four and a half innings.
- 34:07And the next pitch is called strike three. That retires the side.
- 34:15In the inning no runs, two hits, no errors and two men left on.
- 34:19The strikeout for Juan Marichal his third.
- 34:25And the score at the end of two and a half innings.
- 34:28The Mets nothing.
- 34:29The San Francisco Jazz nothing.
- 34:34Here are the words from Reingold.
- 35:04Yes, we must be doing something right.
- 35:14We must be doing something right.
- 35:42Bottom half of the third inning of a scoreless ballgame, Dennis Rybun and Juan Marichal hooking up here in the pitcher's duel.
- 35:48Say the Brewers of Reingold beer are pleased to announce the Brass on the Grass, a free concert by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in the Central Park Sheet Metal, Central Park West and 66th Street on Wednesday, September 21st at 8 o'clock.
- 36:02But better come early because there's really going to be something doing, right?
- 36:10Marichal out in the top of the second. They did not score.
- 36:13Dodgers coming up with the score tied at one to one.
- 36:20Tommy Sisk against Joe Mueller in that ballgame.
- 36:24Nido Fuentes, the first batter up for the Giants.
- 36:29Nido the leadoff batter for the Giants.
- 36:32Singles his first time up an infield hit to shortstop.
- 36:37Final score, Boston beat California three to one.
- 36:41White Sox beat Baltimore three to one.
- 36:44Cleveland beat Detroit six to two.
- 36:48Yankees are batting in the bottom half of the ninth inning off Jim Cutts.
- 36:52They went into the inning trailing by a score of four to one, but Pepitone has shortened that lead to four to two with a home run.
- 36:59It's 31st with no one on.
- 37:02Now the first pitch by Dennis Ryman here in the bottom half of the third and it's ball one.
- 37:08Ryman has given up no runs, allowed two hits.
- 37:12He has struck out two and walked one.
- 37:17Next delivery is hit hard down to short.
- 37:19Harrelson has it in one hop moving to his left.
- 37:21This sort of first base is in plenty of time for the out.
- 37:24Ball was well hit, but Harrelson cut it off.
- 37:28Now the batter coming up is Ken Henderson and Will Foss for station identification.
- 37:32This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 37:35This is WG Weiss connected to the 810 on your radio dial.
- 37:38You're stationed for all Mets games.
- 37:41Dennis Ryman with his first pitch to Ken Henderson and it's taken outside.
- 37:45It's ball one.
- 37:46Ralph Kiner along with Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson from Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California.
- 37:53The smallest ball game with one out in the bottom half of the third.
- 37:58Ryman back again and this time he gets a strike.
- 38:01One ball, one strike.
- 38:03Henderson hit into a fourth play his first time up, grounding down to short.
- 38:11Average dropping from 313 to 294 with his one time at bat.
- 38:15He's been up 17 times with five hits.
- 38:19Next pitch grounded out towards first base.
- 38:21Eddie Cranebould decides to take the play at first base by himself and makes it there unassisted for the out.
- 38:27Two men out and now Willie Mays comes up.
- 38:30Now down to 24, Willie Mays.
- 38:40Willie hit into a fourth play his first time up.
- 38:46Hit the ball hard down to Chuck Hiller and Chuck had a good shot at a double play but booted the ball
- 38:51and then actually booted it with his foot over to the shortstop.
- 38:56Bud Harrelson not on purpose.
- 38:58Bud got the ball and stepped on the back.
- 39:00First pitch is a breaking pitch over the outside corner, a called strike.
- 39:04Mays hitting 293 this year with 34 home runs and 94 runs batted in.
- 39:11Now the one strike delivery taken at the knees and it's called strike two.
- 39:16The Mets can win this ball game here today.
- 39:18It will be the first time in their history and they're in their fifth year that they have ever won a series from another team.
- 39:25Mets have won nine of the 17 games played and if they could win today that would give them their tenth win
- 39:31and a victory in the series for the season for the first time over any club.
- 39:36A check and a swing and a foul ball.
- 39:40Actually the ball was not fouled as Hot Taylor came back.
- 39:44The ball was just not caught by Taylor and the count goes to one and two.
- 39:49One ball, two strikes.
- 39:50The Mets have a chance of course against other teams to come up with a winning season record.
- 39:58They are nine and seven against Chicago with two games to play and they are nine and
- 40:07they are eight and three with Houston with eight games to play.
- 40:12A high drive to deep center field but the wind's holding the ball up.
- 40:16Back in the warning track is Cleon Jones and he really had trouble with the sun but he made the play to retire the side.
- 40:22The last minute Cleon Jones made the catch as he spun away as that ball was in the sun but he found it and made the play on Willie Mays.
- 40:31So with an eight from the wind blowing in from left center field the Mets get Willie Mays out and retire the side in order.
- 40:38And the score at the end of three, the Mets nothing, the Giants nothing.
- 40:43That's Bugles and Drums and you'll hear that each evening Monday through Friday at 5.45 on WGY when I bring you Spotlight on Sports.

- 41:50At the end of two innings at Dodger Stadium the Pirates won, the Dodgers won.
- 41:56Right-hander Tommy Sisk with a record of 10-3, pitching against Joe Mueller 2-3.
- 42:03Al Luplo's second time up. Marichal struck him out in the second.
- 42:16The Dominican Dandy swings out of his windup. The pitch, a high pop foul that's playable, Tom Hader near the plate in foul territory, takes it for the off.
- 42:29One away and nobody on, that brings up Eddie Cranepool.
- 42:32In college football Colgate defeated Boston University 34-0.
- 42:41Now Eddie Cranepool, Eddie has been up once and single to right field.
- 42:52Breeze now has freshened up and is very much indeed a factor in the ball game.
- 42:59Marichal winds the pitch on the way, a little bit low on outside, one ball and no strikes.
- 43:05Yogi Berra coaching at first, Whitey Herzog at third.
- 43:10May is shaded toward right center against Eddie Cranepool.
- 43:17Breaking ball at the knees, it's a strike, one ball, one strike.
- 43:21Following today's game, the Mets fly to Houston.

- 43:31Outside and low with a screwball, two balls and a strike on Ed Cranepool.
- 43:37We're anxious to see 19-year-old Nolan Ryan against the Astros tomorrow as well as Tug McGraw.
- 43:46The Astros seem to be getting hot.
- 43:48They beat the Phillies last night, Harrison hit a grand slam home run.
- 43:53Bounced foul, it's two and two.
- 43:55And they are walloping Philadelphia this afternoon.
- 43:58They lead the Phillies 10-2 at the end of five.
- 44:03The Cardinals won today. When the day is over, it appears St. Louis will be just a half game behind Philadelphia.
- 44:14Ground ball hit toward the middle.
- 44:16Fuente's up with it behind second. Rose not in time and Cranepool is on.
- 44:23Tito Fuente is making a beautiful play going in behind second base.
- 44:27He was actually a stride over on the right side of the diamond when he came up with the grounder
- 44:31and whipped the ball quickly to stretch McCovey but not in time.
- 44:35For the New York Mets, their fourth base hit.
- 44:41Tito Eddie Cranepool is two for two and it brings up the on-jump.
- 44:56Double checking on the standings as Houston beats Philadelphia.
- 45:01Ground ball bounced short by Cleon.
- 45:03Fuente throws the second for one, on to first not in time and Cleon reaches on the fourth play.
- 45:10St. Louis has won and if Philadelphia loses they'll be in a flat-footed tie for fourth place.
- 45:15Each will have won 79 and lost 70.
- 45:26Now Johnny Lewis up against Juan Marichal. No score top of the fourth inning.
- 45:31Speedy Cleon Jones on first base two men down.
- 45:36There goes Cleon, a swing and a miss, the peg by Haller the slide, safe, he stole the base.
- 45:45Cleon Jones getting his 15th stolen base of the year and Cleon has been caught only five times all year.
- 45:55Cleon has the new Mets club record for stolen bases in a season.
- 46:01A modest record but nonetheless a mark of progress.
- 46:08Now a one-strike count on Johnny Lewis.
- 46:16Here's the pitch by Marichal, a swing and a miss, strike two.
- 46:21It's all over at Yankee Stadium. Joe Pepitone-Homer to the last of the ninth is 31st of the year.
- 46:26The Yankees fell two runs shy, the twins winning it four to two.
- 46:30Jim Cot winning his 24th of the year to tie Sandy Koufax for most victories to major leagues.
- 46:36Al Downing was the loser.
- 46:42Now pick off the Compton second and Cleon Jones just gets back.
- 46:46What a move that was by Juan Marichal. He looked like a ballet dancer out there.
- 46:57Pretty close to a balk I would say.
- 47:02Two-strike pitch outside and low, one ball and two strikes.
- 47:08In the third inning at Dodger Stadium, Willie Starjel is at a home runoff, Joe Mueller with a base is clear.
- 47:14It's Pittsburgh two, the Dodgers one with a Parrots betting in the top of the third inning.

- 47:26Everything is over in the American League now.
- 47:29The twins defeated the Yankees four to two. Jim Cot winning his 24th.
- 47:35The Red Sox down the Angels three to one on the combined five-hit pitching of Dennis Bennett and John Wyatt.
- 47:41Wyatt relieved in the eighth inning.
- 47:43George Thomas and Carl Yostemsky homered for Boston. Bob Rogers for the Angels.
- 47:48Tommy John went all the way as the White Sox beat the league-leading Orioles three to one. Palmer the loser.
- 47:54Robert Robinson the Major League leader at number 45.
- 47:57Jerry Adair beat his old teammates with a three-run homer.
- 48:00And Cleveland beat Detroit six to two, Hargan the winner.
- 48:03So the magic number now for the Orioles is six.
- 48:09One ball and two strikes to Johnny Lewis.
- 48:20Al Marichal checks the runner down against the pitch.
- 48:24A high foul ball, wafted back into the crowd, no play.
- 48:37Bob Taylor kneeling in the on-deck circle.
- 48:43The New York Mets no runs, four hits and no errors.

- 49:39Mets are out on the fourth inning with no runs, one hit, no errors, one left.
- 49:43At the end of three and a half, the New York Mets nothing and the San Francisco Giants nothing.
- 49:52Hear that? Guess who it is.
- 49:55It's an American citizen dancing for joy about the new higher interest rates on United States savings bonds.
- 50:02Now U.S. savings bonds earn 4.15 percent interest when held to maturity, over 4 percent return on savings bonds.
- 50:11Sounds great doesn't it?
- 50:13Well it's true.
- 50:14Your money couldn't be safer if the FBI patrolled it day and night.
- 50:19And yet bonds bring you 4.15 percent in return.
- 50:24The new higher interest rates apply to new bonds you buy or to those you now hold for their remaining period to maturity.
- 50:32Get in step.
- 50:34Buy U.S. savings bonds where you work or where you bank.
- 50:38They're safe.
- 50:39They pay over 4 percent interest and...

- 51:50Now the pitch by Dennis Ryback. It's a strike on the inside corner.
- 51:56McCovey is a dangerous hitter anywhere, but in this ballpark he is really dynamite.
- 52:02Music
- 52:06Pop tie in the air to shallow right field.
- 52:08Loop low charging in. Flows up. He's under it and Al makes the grab at retiring Davenport.
- 52:14Music

- 54:36Haller reached on a fourth play, his first down at bat, and a pitch out but nothing was on.
- 54:44Two balls and a strike.
- 54:47Ryband has good control. You can pitch out with Dennis without too many worries.
- 55:03A high pop fly that's playable behind third.
- 55:08Ken Boyer is waved off by Harrelson and Bud makes the catch in fair territory.
- 55:15Two men away, Hal Lanier, the second baseman, comes up.

- 55:57Juan Marichal will be coming up.
- 56:06Giants have three hits off Dennis Ryband here on the fourth.
- 56:10They lead 1-0 and now with runners on first and third, the hitter is Marichal.
- 56:14Good hitter.
- 56:16Juan has had 24 hits this year and he's knocked 11 runs in.
- 56:21Impressive figures for a pitcher.
- 56:26Marichal with that back foot planted right on the restraining line.
- 56:31Wide batting stance.
- 56:33Down comes the pitch.
- 56:34A ground ball hit deep in the hole, backhand play can't be made.

- 56:57Giants lead 2-0 as Marichal behind on the count to Ryband delivers a run scoring hit on a ground ball
- 57:04hit deep in the hole just beyond the reach.
- 57:07Bud Harrelson, Bud tried to make the backhand play deep in the hole and now he had any chance at all of throwing him out.
- 57:15And now Tito Twenteas comes up.
- 57:19Giants now have two runs on four hits off Dennis here on the fourth inning.
- 57:24Twenteas has one for two, he reached on an infield hit in the first.
- 57:37Swing and a miss, strike one.
- 57:39Bill Hepler, a left-hander, and Darrell Sutherland, right-hander, are now warming up in the Mets bullpen.
- 57:46Now Twenteas wants the ball looked over by Harry Wendelstedt.
- 57:53That RBI for Juan Marichal is 12th of the year.
- 58:09Now the pitcher on the way, a sidearm delivery, a swing and a miss, strike two.
- 58:14Dennis really had a lot on that one.
- 58:21Darrell Sutherland was the winning pitcher in last night's game.
- 58:24Darrell worked two-thirds of one inning.
- 58:27He worked in the last half of the eighth inning and the Mets got three in the ninth.
- 58:31Now Ryban in the set position.

- 1:00:19Outside in Lowes, ball won.
- 1:00:23St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 6 to 5.

- 1:01:53Sidearm delivery, outside is 2 and 2.
- 1:02:00Marichal is really something.
- 1:02:04There's a better right-hand pitcher in baseball.
- 1:02:06I don't know who he is.
- 1:02:10Pitching 2 and 2, a swing and a miss.
- 1:02:13He's struck him out.
- 1:02:15That's number five for Marichal.
- 1:02:23He now has 194 strikeouts.
- 1:02:27The only National League pitchers over 200, I believe, at the moment are Sandy Koufax and Jim Bunning.
- 1:02:34Sandy way out in front of the major leagues in strikeouts.
- 1:02:38Bud Harrelson is up against Marichal and the pitch is low inside, ball one.
- 1:02:47The winningest pitchers in the major leagues are Sandy Koufax and Minnesota's Jim Cot.
- 1:02:51They've both won 24.
- 1:02:55Zipped right in there for a call strike to Bud Harrelson.
- 1:02:58One ball, one strike.
- 1:03:02Juan was going great guns.
- 1:03:03It looked like he might come close to 30 and then a couple of injuries slowed him up.
- 1:03:10And the fastball in the outside corner is strike one ball and two strikes.
- 1:03:22Both Jim Bunning and Chris Short of the Phillies have a chance to wind up as 20-game winners.
- 1:03:29Foul ball coming back, no play.
- 1:03:35Right now there are four 20-game winners of the National League and one of the Americans.
- 1:03:41Sandy Koufax, Gaylord Perry, Juan Marichal, and Bob Gibson.
- 1:03:47And the curve drops over strike three call.
- 1:03:50That's number six for Marichal.
- 1:03:53That's op one, two, three and they're half of the fifth.
- 1:03:55No runs, no hits, no errors, none left on.
- 1:03:58We've come halfway at the end of four and a half innings.
- 1:04:01That's the Giants two.
- 1:04:03The New York Mets nothing.
- 1:04:04And now here's a word from Rangel.
- 1:04:07I'm by extravaganza.
- 1:04:12I don't know the reason.
- 1:04:14I can't tell you why.
- 1:04:16More people like Rangel appear extra dry.
- 1:04:20But we must be doing something.
- 1:04:25Yes, we must be doing something right.
- 1:04:29Yes, we must be doing something.
- 1:04:33Woo!
- 1:04:34We must be doing something right.
- 1:04:37We must be doing something right.
- 1:04:46Yes, we must be doing something.
- 1:05:15Last half of the fifth inning.
- 1:05:20Ken Henderson will be up against Dennis Ryback.
- 1:05:24That's number 43, Ken Henderson.
- 1:05:36Henderson, heading for the third time, has reached on a fourth play and grounded out to first, nothing for two.
- 1:05:41Foul ball back into the crowd, strike one.
- 1:05:50The grandstand outfielders must have made quite a play.
- 1:05:58Willie Mays on deck and then Willie McCovey with Giants in front, two nothing, bottom half of the fifth inning.
- 1:06:04Fast ball for a strike.
- 1:06:08Gaylord Perry will open the four-game series against Pittsburgh here at Candlestick tomorrow.
- 1:06:18At the end of three and a half innings, the Dodgers two and the Pirates two.
- 1:06:22Now the curve outside and low, one ball and two strikes.
- 1:06:26The Dodgers now hitting in the last of the fourth inning against Tommy Sisk and the game tied two to two.
- 1:06:34The Dodgers are the hot club right now.
- 1:06:39They have won eight in a row and won 13 of their last 15.
- 1:06:45The one-two pitch, a ground ball past Ryback, reached, fielded by Hiller.
- 1:06:49Chuck fires to first, end time, and Henderson is out.
- 1:06:53One away.
- 1:06:54Now Willie Mays coming up.
- 1:06:56Willie has reached on a fourth play and flies deep to center.
- 1:07:00He's got the ball right against the fence.

- 1:07:43Willie hitting 292 with 34 home runs and 94 runs batted in.
- 1:07:57Now Dennis winds.
- 1:07:58Here's the pitch on the way.
- 1:07:59A full swing and a little squibbler hit foul.
- 1:08:02Right straight back, strike one.
- 1:08:12It will be the 10th year that Willie Mays has driven in 100 or more runs when he reaches the low outside, one ball, one strike.
- 1:08:20Willie has 94 right now.
- 1:08:29It will be the eighth consecutive year that Willie has driven in over 100 runs.
- 1:08:41Now Ryback swings out of his windup.
- 1:08:43The sidearm delivery, a swing and a miss.
- 1:08:45Good pitch by Dennis Ryback.
- 1:08:47One ball and two strikes.
- 1:08:52Stretch McCovey waiting in the on deck circle.
- 1:09:08Now the one-two delivery and it's over.
- 1:09:11Strike three called a sidearm curveball.
- 1:09:20Well Ryback, his fourth strikeout of the game.
- 1:09:23Two outs and nobody on.
- 1:09:24Here's Willie McCovey.
- 1:09:26He hit a line drive over the 375 mark for a home run his last time up.
- 1:09:32The 31st home run of the year.
- 1:09:42Ryback winds down Kenzie's pitch.
- 1:09:44A high drive, hit a mile, the deep right center.
- 1:09:48Oh, if this one hits, it's over the bleachers again.
- 1:10:01You have to see the way he hits them to believe him.
- 1:10:11Oh, I guess that ball was just about as far as the one he hit last night, not quite as far.
- 1:10:24That ball was hit more to center field than the one he hit last night.
- 1:10:28That landed right at the top of the bleachers.
- 1:10:32Giants lead three nothing.
- 1:10:34And Davenport takes the curve for a called strike.
- 1:10:37That's McCovey's 32nd home run of the year.
- 1:10:46Now Ryback delivers low and outside.
- 1:10:56Willie McCovey now has three home runs in his last four official times at bat.
- 1:11:05One ball and one strike on Jim Davenport.
- 1:11:09Now the pitcher on the way, a grouter hit hard to third, backhand play by Boyer.
- 1:11:13The long throw in time, a good play by Ken Boyer.
- 1:11:16And the side is out.
- 1:11:24In the last of the fifth inning, one run, one hit, the home run by Willie McCovey.
- 1:11:32No errors, done left on.
- 1:11:34At the end of five is the Giants, three runs, seven hits, no errors.
- 1:11:39The New York Mets, no runs, four hits, and no errors.

- 1:11:59That will be fan appreciation day at Shea Stadium.
- 1:12:02And all youngsters under 16 will be given a replica of the Mets batting helmet.
- 1:12:07All over 16 will certainly not be overlooked.
- 1:12:09You also will receive a handsome gift.
- 1:12:12That's two weeks from tomorrow, the last day of the season, the Mets concluding against the Houston Astros.
- 1:12:19The Mets have won 8 out of 11 this year from Houston, and they still have keen ambitions of overhauling the Astros.
- 1:12:26They have enough games remaining with Houston to turn the trick if they can continue to defeat them.
- 1:12:32The Mets are going to Houston for a four-game series, and they close out the season with a three-game series at Shea Stadium.
- 1:12:39So they have seven games remaining with Houston.
- 1:12:45Tickets are on sale at the advanced sale window at Shea Stadium seven days a week.
- 1:12:50Also in Midtown Manhattan on the ground level at Macy's 34th Street store and a ground central station at the foot of the 42nd Street in Vanderbilt Avenue ramp.
- 1:13:03Mets tickets are also on sale at Macy's in the Walt Whitman Shopping Center in Huntington, Long Island.
- 1:13:09It will be Chuck Hiller leading off against Merritt-Chile on the top of the sixth inning.
- 1:13:15Giants leading 3-0 on two home runs by Willie McCovey.
- 1:13:23McCovey has three home runs in his last four official times at bat.
- 1:13:32I don't know whether anything is bothering Merritt-Chile or not, but we're getting some warm-up action in the giant bullpen.
- 1:13:41The way Merritt-Chile has been working on the mound, it certainly would not seem that there's anything wrong at all.
- 1:13:48In five innings, he's allowed no runs, four hits, walked none, and struck out six.
- 1:13:57The Dodgers scored a run off Tommy Sisk in the last of the fourth inning at Dodger Stadium.

- 1:14:27Hiller batting 310.
- 1:14:31Everything is over in the American League. Everything is over in the National League except the game in Houston, the game in Los Angeles.
- 1:14:38There's a night game at Atlanta between the Reds and the Braves.
- 1:14:44Merritt-Chile into his windup. The pitch to Hiller, a ground ball going foul down the first baseline.
- 1:14:50Everything over in the American League. The Orioles lost but nonetheless saw the magic number reduce from seven to six.
- 1:14:57The White Sox beat Baltimore 3-1, but Cleveland toppled second place Detroit 6-2.
- 1:15:05Hiller bumps it but it goes foul down the third baseline.
- 1:15:09The Red Sox defeated the Angels 3-1, and the Twins down the Yankees 4-2 in the stadium with Jim Cotts winning his 24th.

- 1:15:26Final college football score Duke 34, West Virginia 15.
- 1:15:40Ken Boyer has flied to left and been struck out. Ken is 0 for 2.
- 1:15:45Last night Boyer drove in the first run for New York with a sacrifice fly.
- 1:15:54Breaking ball outside and low ball wide. Ken also had his 28th double of the year last night,
- 1:16:00which ties the Mets club record for most doubles in a season. Two years ago Ron Hunt had 28.
- 1:16:12Drive well hit by Ken Boyer. This one is up there and there it goes, a home run.
- 1:16:18Ken Boyer hitting his 14th home run of the year. It is now a 3-1 ball game.
- 1:16:25That drive really tagged by Kenny. Hit clear of defense with plenty to spare.
- 1:16:30Failed across the open, expensed and landed right at the base of the bleacher wall.
- 1:16:38Ken Boyer his 61st run batted in, his 14th home run.
- 1:16:45Al Luplo up and he is driven away from the plate, one ball and no strikes.
- 1:16:56That's the second time this year that Boyer has homered off Marichal.
- 1:17:00Now a swing and a miss by Al Luplo, one ball, one strike.
- 1:17:10On the 4th of August Kenny hit one in the 9th inning off Marichal.
- 1:17:16The 1-1 delivery, a drive well hit by Luplo. This one is way up there and there it goes, a home run.
- 1:17:26Back to back home runs and the Mets fight right back into it.
- 1:17:30Al Luplo rounding third and heading in.
- 1:17:33Barluplo is sixth home run of the year and that one was a shot over the fence and up into the bleacher.
- 1:17:41Now it's the Giants three and the Mets two.
- 1:17:50Back to back home runs of Lon Marichal. There's something you don't see very often.
- 1:17:56Now Eddie Crane booed us up and the Mets now trail by one run, it's three to two.
- 1:18:01Here's the pitch by Marichal, a high fly ball going foul down the right field line.
- 1:18:07This one has the legs to be a home run but it's a foul ball.
- 1:18:13Al Luplo has hit six home runs this year and three of the six have been off the Giants.
- 1:18:19That was his second off Marichal, he also hit one off Bob Boland.
- 1:18:31Now the pitch, Eddie Crane booed us. A line smash off the glove of Marichal, he hurries after it, won't make a play.
- 1:18:37And Crane booed us on with a base hit. And that's three hits in a row and the tying run is on.
- 1:18:46The Mets now have a total of seven hits. The hits are even in the game.
- 1:18:59Here's Marichal Robertson starting to warm up in the Giants bullpen.
- 1:19:16Now Cleon, a ground ball bounced hard to second. Lanier to 20s, down to first.
- 1:19:22Low throw but cutting up with it for the double play.
- 1:19:28Four to six, three double play hit into by Cleon, he hit the ball hard but right at, second baseman Hal Lanier.
- 1:19:36The side retired but the Mets fight back into it on back to back home runs by Ken Boyer and Al Luplo.
- 1:19:43Two runs, three hits, no errors, done left on. At the end of five and a half the Giants three and the New York Mets two.
- 1:19:55After the sixth inning, Jesus Alou leads off for the Giants facing Dennis Rybant.
- 1:20:00Jesus has two hits and two times at bat.
- 1:20:06Jesus hitting a 265 tall, rangy right hand batter.
- 1:20:11Cleon Jones placing the strike toward left center and the pitch by Rybant foul ball over the dugout of the Giants and back up into the crowd.
- 1:20:36At the end of four the Dodgers three and the Pirates two. Ground ball hit down to first base.
- 1:20:41The Cranes will handle it, jocks over to the bag, steps there and Alou is out one man away.
- 1:21:08Now swinging a miss by Tom Howell, strike one.
- 1:21:31A slight injury down in the Mets bullpen, one of the players warming up a pitcher and the bullpen must have been hit by a ball.
- 1:21:38Now Howell lays off and the count is two balls and a strike.
- 1:21:49Two and one the count on Tom Howell, one out, nobody on, last of the sixth inning.
- 1:22:00Inside and low, ball three. Rybant working very carefully to left hand batter Tom Howell who has good power.
- 1:22:09The left hand hitter is with power when that wind is blowing to the right. You really have to pitch cautiously.
- 1:22:14Add wherever possible, pitch around them. Here's the pitch on the way. Outside ball four and Dennis is going to pitch around him.
- 1:22:31That's the second walk given up by Rybant.
- 1:22:36And it brings up Howell Lanier. Lanier is lined out to center and single to right field, one for two.
- 1:22:54One out and one on, Lanier right hand batter Whitting.
- 1:22:58Pitched by Rybant, a grounder stroke toward second base. Hiller up with it, throws to Howell, not a first. In time a double play. Four, six, three for the twin gilling.
- 1:23:09Fast fielding on the part of Hiller and for Bud Howell.
- 1:23:14No runs, no hits, no errors, none left on. At the end of sixth, the San Francisco Giants three and the New York Mets two.
- 1:23:24Well, as everybody in New York knows, Rheingold is a beer. In fact, it's New York's number one beer.
- 1:23:31But then this summer, Rheingold turned into a music festival, a full grown, sixty-one concert music festival, attended by more than two hundred and twenty thousand people.
- 1:23:43Now, what does that make Rheingold? Well, probably New York's number one music festival.
- 1:23:49Well, Rheingold is so happy about being New York's number one this and New York's number one that, that it would like to invite the entire city to a free concert by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.
- 1:24:01It'll be on the Central Park Sheath Meadow, Central Park West and 66th Street on Wednesday, September 21st at 8 o'clock.
- 1:24:10But better come early because there's really going to be something doing, right?
- 1:24:22You mentioned a moment ago that there had been a slight accident and the Mets bullpen, a ball bounced up and struck Jerry Grody.
- 1:24:30Jerry is all right. He's on his feet and walking now into the dugout with trender Gus Musch.
- 1:24:35He'll go on into the clubhouse to be taken care of.
- 1:24:40Johnny Lewis will be up against Juan Marichal on the seventh inning.
- 1:24:51Johnny has been up twice and been struck out twice.
- 1:24:59Here's the pitch by Marichal, a swing and a miss on a curveball of the knees, strike one.
- 1:25:05Bob Taylor coming out on deck.
- 1:25:08About a month ago, Hawk got hit with a ball down in the bullpen during the course of a ball game.
- 1:25:16Outside and low on a screwball, one ball, one strike to Johnny Lewis.
- 1:25:23The Giants have three runs, seven hits. The Mets two runs, seven hits.
- 1:25:29Bounced foul, no play.

- 1:25:44Darrell Sutherland is on call in the Mets bullpen.
- 1:25:51Now the windup by Marichal, the pitch, round ball hit towards second.

- 1:30:56It's the most beautiful country in the world.
- 1:30:58Let's prove how much we love it.
- 1:31:00Let's keep America beautiful.
- 1:31:03Doesn't it make you fighting mad to see thoughtless, careless people spreading trash and litter all over our streets and roads and highways and waterways?
- 1:31:12Doesn't it make your blood boil when people scatter rubbish all over our parks and woodlands and beaches?
- 1:31:19You bet it does.
- 1:31:20So always carry a litter bag in car or boat.
- 1:31:23When you have trash to get rid of, don't throw it away, stow it away.
- 1:31:28Hold everything for the proper receptacle.
- 1:31:31Our roads and streets and parks and waterways belong to all of us.
- 1:31:35Litter is an eyesore, interferes with outdoor fun.
- 1:31:39It's a threat to health and highway safety.
- 1:31:42Costs tax dollars, too.
- 1:31:44Every litter bit hurts you.
- 1:31:47We have the most beautiful country in the world.
- 1:31:50Let's keep it that way.
- 1:31:52Let's all work together to keep America beautiful.

- 1:35:44Ken Henderson, a switch hitter, batting at 263.
- 1:35:52He was around with the Giants all last year as a first year player who had to be protected.
- 1:35:57Now the pitch. Call of strike on the inside corner.
- 1:36:01This year he could be farmed out so he got some needed experience playing for Phoenix
- 1:36:06and the Pacific Coast League and he hit 272.
- 1:36:19Now Darrell Sutherland in the set position throws the first base down in time.
- 1:36:27Last of the seventh innings, Giants three and the Mets two.
- 1:36:35A line drive, a face hit to center field.
- 1:36:38Fuentes around second is racing on to third and the Giants have runners at first and third with one out.
- 1:36:47The batter coming up is Willie Mays.
- 1:36:59In today's game Willie has reached on a fourth play, glide to deep center. The ball was caught right against the fence
- 1:37:06at the 4'10 mark by Leon Jung.
- 1:37:10And Willie's last time up against Dennis Rabant he was called out on strikes.
- 1:37:21Willie hitting 291. Outfielder Frank Johnson racing down to the bullpen now to start warming up his arms.
- 1:37:28Here's the pitch. Outside it's ball one.
- 1:37:33Herman Franks has been putting Frank Johnson in in the late innings for defense. He has quite a throwing arm.
- 1:37:42Last night when Sean Fitzmorris slid home with a tying run in the ninth.
- 1:37:48Johnson's throw from left field was a beautiful throw.
- 1:37:53Ball popped out of Haller's middle. They might have had him.
- 1:37:59In field looking for two. A ground ball back to the mound. Sutherland throws to Harrelson one.
- 1:38:04Now to first double play. The side is out. A one, six, three double play.
- 1:38:12So Darrell Sutherland works out of it. No runs, two hits, no errors and one left on.
- 1:38:19At the end of seven innings the score is the San Francisco Giants three and the New York Mets two.
- 1:38:32In the next leg at Dodger Stadium is the Dodgers three and the Pirates two at the end of five.
- 1:38:38Tommy Sisk dueling Joe Moeller. Home run from the game by Willie Starjow for the Bucks and Ron Fairley for the Dodgers.
- 1:38:47The St. Louis Cardinals climbed into a fourth place tie with Philadelphia by defeating Chicago today six to five.
- 1:38:55The winner in relief was Don Dennis. The loser was the starter Ken Holtzman.
- 1:39:00Home runs by Mike Shannon and Adolfo Phillips. Cincinnati plays at Atlanta tonight.
- 1:39:06And the Houston Astros had 11 runs and 17 hits. In beating Philadelphia 11 to 2 with Larry Durker going all the way.
- 1:39:13Morris the loser in relief. In the American League, Cleet Boyer and Joe Pepito and Homer for the New York Yankees with the Yanksville two runs shy.
- 1:39:22Minnesota defeating the Yankees in the stadium four to two with Jim Cot winning his 24th.
- 1:39:28The Mets Andy Koufax for the winningest pitcher in the major league. Al Downing was the loser.
- 1:39:35Dennis Bennett with John Wyatt in the eighth inning combining for a five hitter as the Red Sox trip the Angels three to one.
- 1:39:42George Thomas and Carl Yastremski homered for Boston. Bob Rogers for the Angels. The loser was George Brunette.
- 1:39:49Tommy John won his 14th going all the way as the White Sox beat the Orioles three to one. Palmer the loser.
- 1:39:55Frank Robinson had his 45th home run most in the major league. But Jerry Yadair beat his old teammates with a three run homer.
- 1:40:04And Cleveland with Steve Argen pitching a four hitter for his 12th win. Down Detroit six to two. The loser was McGee Lowlich.
- 1:40:12Jose Askew hit a three run homer in the sixth inning. And as a result though the Orioles lost, they saw the magic number reduced from seven to six.
- 1:40:22Kansas City and Washington not scheduled.
- 1:40:26Now the Pirates are out in the sixth inning at Dodger Stadium. At the end of five and a half the Dodgers three and the Pirates two.
- 1:40:41Bud Harrelson up against Marichal a line drive into center field for a base hit. And the tying run is on with nobody out.
- 1:40:53Single to center by Bud Harrelson is the eighth hit in the ball game for the New York Mets.
- 1:40:58Now Chuck Hiller is coming up and the sign is going out to the Giant Bullpen.
- 1:41:08Bud Harrelson possesses marvelous speed. He stole twice last night. A ground ball hit foul down the first base line.
- 1:41:17And in the ninth inning he stole home with what proved to be the decisive run. At the time it was an insurance run putting New York in front five three.
- 1:41:26The Giants picked up a run in the last of the ninth inning.
- 1:41:34Lobbed over to first and Harrelson scampers back. In his short time with the New York Mets Harrelson has stolen five bases.
- 1:41:41He's five for five. He hasn't been caught.
- 1:41:51Jerry Grote is all right. Jerry came into the clubhouse for repairs after being struck with a ball in the bullpen. But Jerry's back in the bullpen now.
- 1:41:59A foul ball off back toward the Giant dugout. At a two strike count to Chuck Hiller.
- 1:42:07Veteran left hander Bill Henry. Right hander Frank Lindsey both warming up now in the Giants bullpen.
- 1:42:28Juan Marichal trying to win his 23rd. Has gone all the way. Has allowed two runs eight hits.
- 1:42:39Now throw to first. It's not in time.
- 1:42:44Hiller is the batter with Ken Boyer on deck and then Al Luplo.
- 1:42:51Now throw to first and Harrelson is back. Marichal keeping a very close eye on Bud Harrelson.
- 1:43:03Now the pitch on the way. A grounder hit slowly foul down the third baseline.
- 1:43:14Chuck Hiller has one for three. Chuck had an infield hit the deep short in the third inning.
- 1:43:21Hiller batting at 3.08. Nuts behind 3 to 2. A high infield pop fly.
- 1:43:31Kido Fuentes the shortstop is under it and he makes the catch.
- 1:43:38Kido has a style all his own on catching those pop ups. He has his arms at his side. He dresses those up pretty good.
- 1:43:48He stood there with his arms hanging at his sides and at the last moment put his glove up there.
- 1:43:53Crowd was starting to ooh and ah like he'd lost the ball and didn't know it was coming his way.
- 1:44:01Ken Boyer stepping in against Marichal. Ken had a home run against Marichal in the sixth inning.
- 1:44:08After he connected, Al Luplo connected to right field to make it 3 to 2.
- 1:44:19The runner goes hit and run play and it's fouled off.
- 1:44:23Ken Boyer threw the bat at the ball to get a piece on it and Harrelson who was running has to come back.
- 1:44:37Al Luplo is waiting on deck and then Ed Crainbuehl.
- 1:44:54Now the pitch and it's popped up to right field. Coming in is the right fielder Henderson. He's under it and he makes the catch.
- 1:45:02Harrelson playing it halfway, jocks back to first base.
- 1:45:08So Marichal has retired. Hiller and Boyer in the top of the eighth inning. Harrelson is still on first base.
- 1:45:14It brings up Al Luplo. Al hit a long drive up into the bleachers in right field for a home run his last trip.
- 1:45:21It was the second time this year he had connected off Juan Marichal.
- 1:45:30Giants three, Mets two, eighth inning.
- 1:45:38Outside is Lois, ball one.
- 1:45:52Swing and a miss at a screwball thrown by Juan Marichal. One ball, one strike.
- 1:46:05Juan Marichal has not walked a batter and has struck out eight.
- 1:46:11A throw to first, almost a low throw handled by McCovey. McCovey does a good job on handling those throws.
- 1:46:21A throw to first, almost had him leaning the other way but he scrambles back.
- 1:46:30Two men away, Marichal really bearing down now on Bud Harrelson, the runner at first.
- 1:46:36Had a throw to first base, not in time.
- 1:46:46Another throw to first, close but he's back.
- 1:46:54The Giants caught enough of Harrelson back last night. They're taking no chance. It's another throw to first.
- 1:47:03The crowd really getting a kick out of the duel now between Marichal and Harrelson.
- 1:47:08Here's the pitch on the way and it's low inside, two balls and a strike.
- 1:47:17Bud stole second and he stole home last night. He brought in what proved to be the winning run.
- 1:47:27Pitching two and one, the runner goes, a swing and a miss, the peg to second to slide, the ball goes into center field.
- 1:47:33Harrelson is on his way to third and he pulls into third standing up and Bud Harrelson has his sixth stolen base.
- 1:47:42He's batting a thousand, they haven't caught him yet. He's six for six.
- 1:47:51Stolen base and an error charged to Howler on the low throw.
- 1:47:55The count of tying run is on third base. The count is two and two on Al Luplo, two men away.
- 1:48:05Marichal into his land, up the pitch, a high fly ball, well hit the right field, right down the line is going, Bill on a two run homer.
- 1:48:20The next lead, four to three on a two run homer by Al Luplo, his second home run of the ballgame.
- 1:48:30I don't know whether the base running annex of Bud Harrelson had anything to do with it or not, it could have.
- 1:48:36May have bothered Marichal just a little bit and Al Luplo ripped it.
- 1:48:40A high fly hit right down the right field line and well over the fence for a two run homer.
- 1:48:47Next lead, four to three, Luplo's seventh home run of the year.
- 1:48:54Foul ball coming back to the crowd, no play.
- 1:48:57Al Luplo has hit only seven home runs all year and he has three of the seven off Juan Marichal.
- 1:49:11That's a good three home runs today, accounting for their four runs. One ball, one strike on Eddie Krainbuehl.
- 1:49:18Eddie has three for three today. Here's the pitch on the way, a slow ground ball down the first baseline.
- 1:49:25Marichal racing after it, McCovey tries to scoop the ball to Marichal, they can't make the play and Krainbuehl is on with a base hit.
- 1:49:33He now is four for four, three of the four have been infield hits.
- 1:49:46Eddie Krainbuehl has a four for four afternoon and the last three have been infield hits.
- 1:50:02Cleon Jones stepping in, Mets lead four, three, top of the eighth inning.
- 1:50:17Now Marichal delivers, that is over the head of Cleon Jones, one ball, no strikes.
- 1:50:23In the Mets bullpen, Jack Hamilton and Larry Miller are getting ready.
- 1:50:29Luplo is the third member of the Mets to get two home runs in one game this year.
- 1:50:35Eddie Krainbuehl now has become the third Mets player to get four hits in one game.
- 1:50:40Foul ball back.
- 1:50:42Eddie got a clean single to right in the second.
- 1:50:47The last three hits have been infield hits.
- 1:50:51At the end of six innings at Dodger City and the Dodgers three and the Pirates two.
- 1:50:56If the Mets win and the Dodgers win, the Dodgers are going to be sitting in a good spot.
- 1:51:02The one-one delivery, a drive into the air to center, back goes Willie Mays deep into right center and a one-hand catch.
- 1:51:16Well that was a beauty by Willie Mays that saved a run, a long run into deep right center and a one-hand catch out by defense.
- 1:51:24For New York in the eighth inning, the Mets score two runs to take the lead.
- 1:51:30There were three hits, one air charged to Tom Haller and one man left on.
- 1:51:35And at the end of seven and a half innings, it's now the New York Mets four to San Francisco Giants three.
- 1:51:42It's hard to find a job that pays $50 a month anymore.
- 1:51:46About the only one who has nerve enough to offer you that is Uncle Sam.
- 1:51:50$50 a month is what you get saved for you during the year you spend in VISTA.
- 1:51:56But people don't join VISTA to get rich, except in a special sense.
- 1:52:00VISTA is volunteers in service to America.
- 1:52:04And VISTA volunteers come from all parts of the country.
- 1:52:08They're all ages, all types.
- 1:52:10The one thing they have in common is a sense of commitment to something they consider more important than their own comfort.
- 1:52:19They're spending a year fighting poverty, full time.
- 1:52:24They're learning all sorts of things about people, about this country, about themselves.
- 1:52:30VISTA. To get the whole story, write V-I-S-T-A, Box B, Washington, D.C.
- 1:52:40VISTA, Box B, Washington.
- 1:52:53We're going to the bottom half of the eighth inning.
- 1:52:55This is Ralph Kinder along with Bob Murphy and Lindsay Nelson.
- 1:52:58And the Mets are in front four to three.
- 1:53:00In the ball game now for the Mets is Larry Miller, fellow replacing Darrell Sutherland, who worked in the seventh inning.
- 1:53:07And although he gave up two hits, he got out of the inning without the giant scoring.
- 1:53:11Miller a left hander and his first pitch is to Willie McCovey and it's Paul to strike.
- 1:53:16McCovey has hit two consecutive home runs.
- 1:53:19His 31st and 32nd, they came in the fourth and fifth innings.
- 1:53:23And he is perfect for the day with a walk to go along.
- 1:53:26Now Miller back and a curve ball is popped up on the third base side.
- 1:53:30Ken Boyer with his glasses down and now back up.
- 1:53:33And Ken almost drops him off.
- 1:53:36He made the catch but he had no surety that he had made it as the ball almost squeezed out of his glove.
- 1:53:44He was fighting the sun all the way.
- 1:53:45He put his glasses down, changed his mind, puts them back up again, and then finally with the glasses up he made the play.
- 1:53:55Miller has a record of all-in-one.
- 1:53:57This is his fourth appearance for the Mets.
- 1:54:00Now the batter is Jim Davenport.
- 1:54:02And the first pitch is called a strike.
- 1:54:04Over at the knees, strike one.
- 1:54:11Davenport is 0 for 3.
- 1:54:13Boyer made a good play on him to get him out his last time up.
- 1:54:16A ground ball down to first base.
- 1:54:17Cranepole takes the tough hop, goes to the bag for the out.
- 1:54:21So two men away here in the bottom half of the eighth.
- 1:54:23The Mets in front by one.
- 1:54:25And the batter coming up is Atsusa Lu who is 2 for 3.
- 1:54:29The Mets have Jack Hamilton throwing in the bullpen.
- 1:54:37This ballgame is a big game for the San Francisco Giants.
- 1:54:41They started the action in third place.
- 1:54:50They are trailing the Dodgers by four and the Dodgers are winning against the Pirates today.
- 1:54:55Change up is Pop Powell back of home going out of play.
- 1:55:01So it's a strike one count on Atsusa Lu.
- 1:55:06Dodgers leading the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 2 at the end of sixth.
- 1:55:14If the Giants lose today and the Dodgers win, the Giants will be five games back.
- 1:55:32One strike down and Larry Miller takes too much time.
- 1:55:35So Atsusa Lu steps out of the batter's box and takes a practice swing.
- 1:55:44Now the pitch is grounded over the head of the third baseman deep to short,
- 1:55:48taken by Harrelson, the long throw to first base in time to retire the side.
- 1:55:55So a 1-2-3 inning for Larry Miller and the Mets have only three outs to go as they lead by a score of 4 to 3
- 1:56:01as we go to the top of the ninth inning.
- 1:56:11Well the Mets after their game here today move on to play against the Houston Astros.
- 1:56:18They'll be playing a doubleheader tomorrow against Houston.
- 1:56:20It's going to be Tug McGraw and Nolan Ryan.
- 1:56:22We'll be on the air with our ball game at 3.25 New York time.
- 1:56:31Dave Juste and Bob Bruce are the scheduled Astro pitchers.
- 1:56:33The Mets play the Astros a doubleheader on Sunday, a single night game on Monday, and a single night game on Tuesday.
- 1:56:39Then they move on to Cincinnati for a weekend series on Friday, Saturday, and a doubleheader Sunday.
- 1:56:44Then they come home to play against the Chicago Cubs on the 27th.
- 1:56:48That'll be a night game on Tuesday night, a day game on the 28th.
- 1:56:51And then the final series of the year against Houston on the 30th and the 1st and 2nd of October.
- 1:56:5730th a night game on Friday night.
- 1:57:00The 1st will be a night game on Saturday night.
- 1:57:03It'll be ladies night on that Saturday night.
- 1:57:05Ladies admitted to the ballpark for 50 cent service charge.
- 1:57:08And then the final game on Sunday.
- 1:57:10On Sunday it'll be fan appreciation day.
- 1:57:13And the Mets are going to give a free batting fiberglass helmet to all the boys and girls
- 1:57:1916 years of age and younger who come to the ballpark that day.
- 1:57:22Also on gift for the adults.
- 1:57:24First pitch to Johnny Lewis as we start off here in the top of the ninth.
- 1:57:28They've swung on a missed strike one.
- 1:57:30Juan Marichal working for the Giants.
- 1:57:32Mets are leading 4 to 3.
- 1:57:34They have four runs on 10 hits.
- 1:57:36The Giants have three runs and nine.
- 1:57:39Johnny is 0 for 3 in the game.
- 1:57:44He'll be followed by Johnny Stevenson and then the pitcher, Larry Miller.
- 1:57:48The next pitch is called a ball.
- 1:57:50It's 1 and 1.
- 1:57:52Ralph Terry throwing in the bullpen for the Mets now.
- 1:57:581-1 delivery by Marichal.
- 1:58:00Hit off the end of the bat foul over the third base coach's head.
- 1:58:04The count goes to one ball and two strikes.
- 1:58:06Right now we'll pause for station identification.
- 1:58:09This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 1:58:12And this is WGY, 810 on your dials.
- 1:58:14Connected to New York, your station for all the Mets baseball games.
- 1:58:26Next pitch to the plate is fouled off the end of the bat again to the left side.
- 1:58:29And the count stays at 1 and 2.
- 1:58:31Ralph Keiner along with Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson from San Francisco, California.
- 1:58:37One ball, two strikes.
- 1:58:38Johnny Lewis the batter.
- 1:58:39And Marichal back again.
- 1:58:41The pitch is hit hard down to second base.
- 1:58:43Howell and Neer has it.
- 1:58:44And so the first base is in time for the outs.
- 1:58:50So Johnny Lewis is put aside for the fourth time in the ball game.
- 1:58:54And that brings up Johnny Stevenson who was a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.
- 1:58:57He stayed in the ball game to take over the catching chores.
- 1:59:00Johnny as a pinch hitter struck out.
- 1:59:04Left hand batter.
- 1:59:07Mets in front 4 to 3 as we play here in the top of the ninth inning.
- 1:59:15And the next pitch to the plate is swung on a miss, strike one.
- 1:59:30Marichal back and again a swinging strike.
- 1:59:34Strike two.
- 1:59:44And the next delivery by Marichal is outside.
- 1:59:48The count, one ball, two strikes.
- 1:59:57And a swinging strike, strike three.
- 2:00:00Marichal picking up his ninth strikeout.
- 2:00:02He's second out here in the top of the ninth inning.
- 2:00:05And now the batter will be Larry Miller.
- 2:00:07Larry is a good hitting pitcher.
- 2:00:20Miller has been a bad once and has had a base hit.
- 2:00:23And he swings at the first pitch and misses, strike one.
- 2:00:29In the ninth inning, the bottom half of the ninth,
- 2:00:33the Giants have the bottom of their batting order coming up.
- 2:00:37One strike delivery, swung on a miss, strike two.
- 2:00:40They're trailing by one and the scheduled hitters will be Tom Howler, Hal Lanier, and Juan Marichal.
- 2:00:48They'll be going to some pinch hitting.
- 2:00:51Here's a two-strike pitch.
- 2:00:53They're going away and it's ball one. One ball, two strikes.
- 2:01:07Marichal back again and a swing and a miss, strike three.
- 2:01:10The ball was dropped by Tom Howler.
- 2:01:13Throw to first base to Willie McCovey, retires to side.
- 2:01:16Ten strikeouts for Juan Marichal, another one-two-three inning,
- 2:01:20and he leaves the ball game trailing by a score of four to three.
- 2:01:25And in jeopardy of losing his first game to the Mets, he has won 17 times.
- 2:01:32We're going to the bottom half of the ninth inning with the Giants coming up,
- 2:01:35and they need one to tie and two to win.
- 2:01:38On the mound for the Mets, Larry Miller.
- 2:01:40He has worked one inning, got the side out in order.
- 2:01:43And here's a bright way of hope for the Giants.
- 2:01:47Don Glendin has hit a free-run home run for the Dodgers down in Los Angeles.
- 2:01:52He did say against the Dodgers down in Los Angeles.
- 2:01:56And the Pittsburgh Pirates have taken the lead by a score of five to three
- 2:02:01as they batted the top of the seventh inning.
- 2:02:05Regan has taken over for Joe Mueller in the seventh inning.
- 2:02:08Tommy Sitts still pitching for the Pirates.
- 2:02:15First man up is Jack Hyde.
- 2:02:17He was a pinch hitter in last night's ball game and single,
- 2:02:19and his first pitch is called a ball.
- 2:02:21Jack, a right-hand batter.
- 2:02:26He has been up 11 times with four hits.
- 2:02:28He's batting 364.
- 2:02:34Miller back and the ball grounded foul down toward third base
- 2:02:37taken by Boyer in foul territory, and the count goes to one and one.
- 2:02:41Jack Hyde batting for Tom Howler.
- 2:02:44Howler 0 for 2 in the game.
- 2:02:52On deck batter is Hal Lanier.
- 2:02:55Giants have Jim Ray Hard on the bench.
- 2:02:58He did not start the ball game.
- 2:02:59A change-up by Mueller is too low, and they count two balls and one strike.
- 2:03:04Metz has four runs and ten hits.
- 2:03:06The Giants have three runs and nine.
- 2:03:13Jack Hamilton in the bullpen and Ralph Turi in the bullpen for the match.
- 2:03:16The fly ball hit the right field.
- 2:03:18Coming in is Al Uplow.
- 2:03:19He's there, and he makes the catch, and he really had to fight the sun.
- 2:03:25So the Mets have their first out in the bottom half of the ninth inning,
- 2:03:30and the batter is scheduled up as Hal Lanier, but he has been called back.
- 2:03:36Also near the bat rack is Cap Peterson.
- 2:03:42It's going to be Cap Peterson, pinch hitting for Hal Lanier.
- 2:03:45Lanier had one hit and three times up.
- 2:03:51Howdy-ho, how are you?
- 2:03:53I'm here to coach you, Cap Peterson.
- 2:03:57Hello.
- 2:04:00Larry Miller taking some warm-up pitches while the Mets wait for Peterson to get to the batter's box.
- 2:04:07He's swinging a couple of bats in the on-deck circle.
- 2:04:10In the bottom half of the ninth, the Mets in front four to three.
- 2:04:15A two-run home run by Al Uplow, turning the game around to the Mets side in the top of the eighth inning.
- 2:04:21Al had had a previous home run as had Ken Boyer.
- 2:04:31In the on-deck circle now is Jim Ray Hart.
- 2:04:35So it's going to be a tough ball for Larry Miller.
- 2:04:39Here's his first pitch to Peterson.
- 2:04:41A change-up that's over.
- 2:04:42A good pitch, strike one.
- 2:04:46Peterson, a right-hand batter, hitting.238 with two home runs and 19 runs batted in.
- 2:04:56And the next pitch is taken just below the knee.
- 2:04:59To the count, one ball and one strike. Mother missing with a curve ball.
- 2:05:22One ball, one strike. Mother back again with a change, but this one is outside.
- 2:05:26Oh, they got two balls and one strike.
- 2:05:38Giant fans sort of quiet here at this point.
- 2:05:44I need a win in this ballgame to stay in this pennant race.
- 2:05:47Next pitch is lined deep to left field, and the people extubated.
- 2:05:51Going in against the wall.
- 2:05:53Peterson on his way to second base looking toward third.
- 2:05:56He's coming to third. There'll be a play at third.
- 2:05:58Here's the throw. He's going to be out. He is.
- 2:06:05Jeff Peterson on the relay from Bud Harrelson out at third base as the Giants try to get the tie run to third.
- 2:06:14Bag made by Ken Boyer, and the Mets pick up their second out.
- 2:06:23So now they're down to their last out against the Mets.
- 2:06:27Juan Marichal has never lost a game to the Mets.
- 2:06:30He will be the pitcher record.
- 2:06:32The throw coming from the left fielder, Johnny Lewis, a flying relay by Bud Harrelson, and a good tag by Ken Boyer.
- 2:06:41And the Mets getting their second out.
- 2:06:43They're leading by a score of 4-3, and the batter now is Jim Ray Hart.
- 2:06:50Hart did not start in either of the last two games against the Mets.
- 2:06:53He's batting 271, and he takes the first pitch high of breaking ball at ball one.
- 2:06:58Hart has hit 32 home runs this year with 88 runs batted in.
- 2:07:02His 32 home runs a career high.
- 2:07:07He was a pinch hitter in last night's ball game and grounded down to third base and was out.
- 2:07:13Next delivery, a change up that's inside.
- 2:07:15It's ball two. Two balls and no strikes.
- 2:07:30Larry Miller taking the signs and now back again, and he misses high, ball three.
- 2:07:35Another breaking ball that was high.
- 2:07:37Dangerous pitches by the left-handers.
- 2:07:40Three balls, no strikes. The on-deck batter is Tito Fuentes.
- 2:07:46Mets bullpen still throwing, Jack Hamilton and Ralph Derry.
- 2:07:543-0, and the pitch to Hart is over for a called strike.
- 2:07:59So that puts the count at three balls and one strike.
- 2:08:14Now the 3-1 pitch. It's long gone to left field, a home run.
- 2:08:39Jim Ray Hart with his 33rd home run, a pinch hit home run that has taken Juan Marichal once again off of the hook.
- 2:08:48And it's a tie ball game at four to four and the batter coming up is Tito Fuentes.
- 2:08:59So the Giants with only one out left getting back in the ball game and back in the pennant race.
- 2:09:06And now the batter Tito Fuentes steps in and his first pitch is high at ball one.
- 2:09:22Well, if the Giants should go on to win the pennant this year, the turning point would be that home run by Jim Ray Hart.
- 2:09:29They were practically out of the pentagrade.
- 2:09:31Only one out left. They would have been five games out.
- 2:09:35Now high pop-up as Fuentes fouls the ball into the third base area.
- 2:09:39Boyer over to make the catch and a good one as he makes the catch and then falls toward the side.
- 2:09:44That retires the side, but one run too late for the Mets.
- 2:09:49As the Giants tied up on the home run by Jim Ray Hart, there were two hits in the inning.
- 2:09:56No errors and no one left on base and the score at the end of nine, the Giants four, the Mets four.
- 2:10:06Well, this has been a tremendous ball game.
- 2:10:09Last night it's the same thing as the Mets won five to four.
- 2:10:12Mets scoring three runs in the ninth inning and then holding the Giants at bay in the ninth.
- 2:10:17Here the Giants have tied it up and we go to the top of the tenth inning.
- 2:10:21Frank Lindsay is coming in the pitch for the Giants.
- 2:10:26Juan Marichal once again getting off of the hook.
- 2:10:29The Mets have never been able to beat him.
- 2:10:31They have had him out of ball games twice, but the Giants have come back to get him off the hook.
- 2:10:39And here one more time.
- 2:10:41So the Mets now have lost their chance to pick up a win against Marichal.
- 2:10:46They'll have to pick up their win if they're going to do it against Frank Lindsay, a right-hand relief pitcher.
- 2:10:59Lindsay is making his 48th appearance.
- 2:11:01He has a record of six wins and ten losses.
- 2:11:09Mets will have Bud Harrelson as their leadoff batter.
- 2:11:16He'll be followed by Chuck Hiller and then Ken Boyer.
- 2:11:35A lot of moments like these that make baseball the kind of a game it is.
- 2:11:40Two strikes away or one pitch away from winning the ball game and the next thing you know you're playing some more.
- 2:11:49Tremendous home run by Jim Ray Hart.
- 2:11:51The ball was hit way beyond the left field fence on a 3-1 pitch.
- 2:11:55Miller was pitching very dangerously to him as he had thrown him some high curve balls.
- 2:12:00Hart hit a high fast ball out of the ballpark.
- 2:12:10Some changes in the lineup for the Giants.
- 2:12:16The catcher is Jack Hyatt who was a pinch hitter taking over for Tom Haller.
- 2:12:27Correction on that, the catcher is Bob Barton taking over for Tom Haller.
- 2:12:32Okabe still at first.
- 2:12:38Jim Davenport has gone over to second base.
- 2:12:41Hito Fuentes is still at shortstop.
- 2:12:46Ozzie Virgil has taken over at third base.
- 2:12:49Allu is in left field.
- 2:12:51Mays in center field.
- 2:12:54And Henderson is in right field.
- 2:13:01And Frank Lindsay with his first pitch to Bud Harrelson that's taken outside ball one.
- 2:13:10Lindsay's last appearance was against the Cubs.
- 2:13:12His action then was a two inning stint.
- 2:13:15He gave up two hits, no runs.
- 2:13:17Right hander back again and the pitch has taken low ball two.
- 2:13:20Two balls, no strikes.
- 2:13:35Now a strike is called. It's two balls, one strike.
- 2:13:52And the next pitch is called strike two. It's two balls and two strikes.
- 2:14:12And the next pitch is sliced foul so the count remains two balls and two strikes.
- 2:14:16We're in the top of the tenth of a tie ball game four to four.
- 2:14:35And again a two-two and again a foul ball.
- 2:14:38So Bud Harrelson keeps the count going along at two balls and two strikes.
- 2:14:56Now he tries again and Harrelson grounds it right through the middle.
- 2:14:59It's going to be a base hit.
- 2:15:01Ball partially slowed down by Fuentes but Harrelson gets a base hit as the ball is picked up by
- 2:15:06Willie Mays in center field and he stays at first.
- 2:15:09So once again the Mets get some action going.
- 2:15:15Bud Harrelson his second hit in the ball game.
- 2:15:20And now the batter is Chuck Hiller.
- 2:15:31Chuck has had one hit in four times up.
- 2:15:38Pittsburgh scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead against the Dodgers by a five to three margin.
- 2:15:44Elroy Faces pitching in the seventh inning. Tommy Cisk out of the ball game.
- 2:15:49Regan now in the ball game in the seventh inning for the Dodgers.
- 2:15:52Chargel Fairley and Clendenin home runs.
- 2:15:54The three runs coming on Clendenin. Three-run home run in the seventh.
- 2:16:00Ozzie Virgil charging from third base got pretty close to the batter and then time was called.
- 2:16:05Now Lindsay sets up on the pitching mound.
- 2:16:07The runner at first and the first pitch is Bunnett Fowle at strike one.
- 2:16:13Ball glancing off the bat at Chuck Hiller and going back over the shoulder of the catcher Bob Barton.
- 2:16:19Four-four ball game. Both sides with 11 hits.
- 2:16:22The Giants tying the ball game up in the bottom half of the ninth with two men out on the home run by Jim Ray Hart.
- 2:16:28It was his 33rd home run of the year.
- 2:16:32It was also his big ball against the Mets.
- 2:16:37Funnett out toward the pitcher's mound.
- 2:16:39Hiller has thrown out at first base on the sacrifice as Bud Harrelson goes down to second.
- 2:16:44Jim Davenport taking the throw at first base.
- 2:16:49That brings up Ken Boyer.
- 2:16:57Ken has had one hit home run in the sixth inning and four times up.
- 2:17:01He has hit in ten consecutive ball games.
- 2:17:24And the first pitch to Boyer is outside on low. It's ball one.
- 2:17:44That home run by Jim Ray Hart is ninth against the Mets this year.
- 2:17:50Only one other hitter has done better and that was Willie Stargell who hit ten against the Mets.
- 2:17:57Now time is called. Bob Barton called out to the mound by Frank Lindsay.
- 2:18:09Barton back behind the plate to give the sign. Time back in.
- 2:18:22And now Frank's next pitch to the plate is low again. It's ball two. Two balls, no strikes.
- 2:18:30And Daniel warming up in the bullpen for the Giants.
- 2:18:42Lindsay sets again. Harrelson at second base.
- 2:18:45And the next pitch is over. Two balls, one strike.
- 2:18:54Dodgers out in the bottom half of the seventh. The Pirates lead by a score of five to three.
- 2:19:01Going to the top of the eighth inning.
- 2:19:06Now the 2-1 delivery. Swung on and missed. Two balls, two strikes.
- 2:19:34Lindsay working extremely slowly.
- 2:20:04Frank Johnson loosening up for the Giants. He has a strong arm and outfielded.
- 2:20:15Two-two pitch again and again fouled off.
- 2:20:20Boyer fooled in the pitch but getting a piece of the ball to foul it off and keep the count at two balls and two strikes.
- 2:20:27Mets have a go-ahead run at second base. But Harrelson is there.
- 2:20:31He singles through the middle for sacrifice to second base by Chuck Hiller.
- 2:20:37Now it's Ken Boyer with one man out in the top of the tenth inning.
- 2:20:43And a two-two again. A foul ball. This one coming over toward the left side.
- 2:20:49And Ozzie Virgil, a long run, but he couldn't catch up to it.
- 2:20:52Ozzie in the third base for the Giants.
- 2:21:03Boyer got his 14th home run in the sixth inning.
- 2:21:20Once again Lindsay sets up and the two-two pitch. It's over. Call strike three.
- 2:21:34That's Lindsay's first strikeout, his second out here in the tenth.
- 2:21:37And now the Mets have Al Luplo coming up.
- 2:21:40Al has had two home runs and four times up.
- 2:21:43It's his home run in the eighth inning with Bud Harrelson on at third base to put the Mets in front by a score of four to three.
- 2:21:53In the sixth after Boyer hit his home run, Al got one right behind him.
- 2:21:59He now has seven on the season, three of them off Warren Marichal and four against the Giants.
- 2:22:09Luplo's going to be walked intentionally and the first pitch is outside at ball one.
- 2:22:14The Giants are going to take their chances with Eddie Cranepool.
- 2:22:20Next pitch is ball two. Bud Harrelson at second base.
- 2:22:26And with two men out, the Giants would rather pitch to Cranepool than Al Luplo.
- 2:22:31Now the next pitch, ball three.
- 2:22:40And ball four. And that is the first walk of the ball game for the Mets.
- 2:22:44Warren Marichal had worked nine innings without a walk.
- 2:22:47While he was in the ball game, he struck out tenth.
- 2:22:55And so with the situation with runners at first and second, Frank Johnson is being put in in left field in place of Jesus Lu.
- 2:23:03Take advantage of his strong throwing arm.
- 2:23:20And at the top of the tenth inning, the score of four to four, the Mets with runners at first and second, and now Eddie Cranepool the batter.
- 2:23:26Eddie has had four hits and four times up. Three of his hits have been infield hits.
- 2:23:33His average now at 251.
- 2:23:37Breeze blowing out toward right field.
- 2:23:40And the first pitch by Lindsay is just outside the ball.
- 2:23:47Eddie with his four for four raising his average seven points today.
- 2:23:56Now Lindsay sets again.
- 2:23:58And his pitch back to the plate is outside again. It's ball two.
- 2:24:02Two balls and no strikes. And with the count going up there, Cleon Jones puts some rosin on his hand.
- 2:24:10He's in the on deck circle.
- 2:24:14This is a struggle for the Giants. They have to win this ball game.
- 2:24:19Mets doing everything they can to keep them from winning.
- 2:24:22Now Brown ball hit down to short.
- 2:24:24Cleon Jones has it. He throws over to Davenport covering the second base for the fourth play to retire the side.
- 2:24:33In the inning, no runs, one hit.
- 2:24:36No errors, a walk which was intentional.
- 2:24:39And two men left on.
- 2:24:40And the score through nine and a half innings, the Mets four, the Giants four.
- 2:24:44If you ever stop to think of how many lonesome travelers there are here in Yonder, and how thirsty they get.
- 2:24:53Well I am a lonely and a lonesome traveler.
- 2:24:57I am a lonely and a lonesome traveler.
- 2:25:01I am a lonely and a lonesome traveler.
- 2:25:04I've been traveling on.
- 2:25:08I've traveled here and then I've traveled here.
- 2:25:11From California to New York, the American folk singer travels here and Yonder carrying with him the music of the whole world and its peoples.
- 2:25:21And sometimes when the traveling gets thirsty, he puts down his guitar and accompanies himself with a cold beer, maybe Rheingold.
- 2:25:31In New York City, where more songs and travelers stop than anywhere else in the world, more people buy Rheingold extra dry than any other beer.
- 2:25:41How come?
- 2:25:43Maybe it's the Oregon hops we use.
- 2:25:45Who knows?
- 2:25:47But we must be doing something right.
- 2:25:50Traveling on.
- 2:25:57Here's the bottom half of the 10th inning. The score tied 4-4 and the Giants coming up.
- 2:26:03Ken Henderson will lead off for the Giants. He'll be followed by Willie Mays and Willie McCovey.
- 2:26:09Henderson, a right hand batter against left hand pitching, has had one hit in four times up.
- 2:26:16And Larry Miller, the pitcher in the mound, the first pitcher's running out toward third.
- 2:26:20Boyer breaking in, comes up with the ball, throws the first base in time for the out.
- 2:26:25And Boyer, immediately breaking in as he saw Henderson move out the bunch, made a fine play on the ball to pick up the first out, and now the batter will be Willie Mays.
- 2:26:40Mays is all for four.
- 2:26:53Miller came in the ball game in the eighth inning, retired the side and ordered in the eighth, got two men out in the ninth inning, and then gave up a home run.
- 2:27:01Defense hitter Jim Ray Hart would side up the game.
- 2:27:04Now working with one out in the bottom half of the 10th. His first pitch to Mays is low and away. It's ball one.
- 2:27:20Miller back again and the pitch is high, a slider that was up about shoulder high.
- 2:27:25Mays started to go and then held off. It's two balls, no strikes.
- 2:27:35Both sides with four runs, both sides with 11 hits.
- 2:27:40Now Miller back again and the pitch is fouled off. Mays with a hard swing and the ball going back out of play.
- 2:27:49Down at two balls and one strike.
- 2:27:55And the bullpen for the Mets, Jack Hamilton, left-hander Bill Hefler.
- 2:28:02Starting pitcher was Dennis Ribon. He worked six innings, was charged with three runs, gave up seven hits.
- 2:28:11Next pitch to Mays is flying down the left-field line up eight-six. Coming over to cut it off is Johnny Lewis. He makes a fine play and throws in.
- 2:28:19And Mays stays at first. That ball lying down in the left-field corner and Johnny Lewis hustling over to cut it off for a single.
- 2:28:28Next is Willie McCovey who has had two home runs and three official times up.
- 2:28:44McCovey with his 31st and 32nd home runs in the fourth and fifth innings stepping in the batter's box. Batting at 299 and the first pitch is a curve that's outside for a ball.
- 2:29:00Mays at first base.
- 2:29:07He has a good-sized lead. Miller watching, now going to first base. Mays gets back.
- 2:29:14Mays has had five stolen bases in six tries.
- 2:29:19And he leads off with a good-sized lead. The pitch to play has swung on and missed.
- 2:29:24Hard swing by Willie McCovey on a curve ball. The count one-and-one.
- 2:29:34Well, the first game between these two teams this year going 17 innings. The Giants winning on a home run by Davenport.
- 2:29:41Now this one in the bottom half of the tenth, the last game between these two teams. Again a throw to first base. Mays back.
- 2:29:51That's a 1-9 of the 17 games played so far. Now picks to McCovey, a swing and a miss.
- 2:29:58And the bat knocking the ball out of the hand of Johnny Stevenson on the back-lash. And Mays goes down to second.
- 2:30:06McCovey with the back-lash going all the way around, hits the back of Johnny Stevenson's right hand and it knocked the ball out of his glove.
- 2:30:15Now West Westrom is coming out to talk with the home plate umpire Harry Wendelstad.
- 2:30:28At the same time checking out Johnny Stevenson, see if he is all right.
- 2:30:35Willie McCovey, after missing the ball completely and the bat going all the way around, hits the back of the right hand of Johnny Stevenson, knocking the ball out.
- 2:30:44The Giants have the winning run at second base with Willie Mays there and one out.
- 2:30:55Stevenson given a couple of balls to throw to see if his hand is all right.
- 2:31:01And he checks out okay.
- 2:31:06Willie Mays going to second base.
- 2:31:17Now time is called and Stevenson is called out for the mound by Larry Miller.
- 2:31:22We'll pause for station identification. This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 2:31:28And this is your station for sports in the great northeast, WGY Schenectady.
- 2:31:39Now time is in. The count one and two on Willie McCovey and the pitch the plate is swung on and fouled.
- 2:31:46Ralph Keiner along with Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson from Candlestick Park.
- 2:31:54Score tied at 4-4, bottom half of the 10th inning, the Giants batting and Willie Mays is at second base.
- 2:32:09The next pitch is hit deep to right field. It's going, going, going, gone and the ballgame is over.
- 2:32:38Willie McCovey with a long home run to right field, his third in the ballgame and the Giants win it by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the 10th.
- 2:32:47Two runs on two hits, there were no errors and no one left on base and the Giants coming back, win the ballgame with a run that tied up on the ninth and two runs in the 10th inning.
- 2:32:58For Willie McCovey, his 33rd home run of the year and it sends the Mets back from San Francisco with a very, very tough defeat.
- 2:33:08A big win for the Giants as they win a game they had to win and they did it with a home run back.
- 2:33:24This was probably one of the most exciting ballgames that the Mets have played, although in last night's ballgame you could have said the same thing,
- 2:33:32which only indicates the tremendous baseball that the Mets and Giants have played here in the last two ballgames and also throughout the year.
- 2:33:43The win by the Giants gives them an even break in the overall season series, Mets 29 and the Giants 29.
- 2:33:50Here in San Francisco the Mets won five of the nine-game play.
- 2:33:57The home run was a big part of the play today.
- 2:34:00The Mets had two home runs from Malouklo, his sixth and seventh in the sixth and eighth inning.
- 2:34:06His home run in the eighth inning put him in the Mets in front by a score of four to three.
- 2:34:10Ken Boyer had hit his 14th in the sixth inning.
- 2:34:14So the Mets getting a total of three home runs which was handled very nicely by Willie McCovey as he personally accounted for three home runs.
- 2:34:22But the big home run of the ballgame was the home run by Jim Ray Hart that was in the ninth inning that tied out the ballgame.
- 2:34:28With Larry Miller on the mound in the ninth inning, Jack Hyatt slide out the right field.
- 2:34:33That gave the Mets their first out in the bottom half of the ninth.
- 2:34:37The next batter was Cap Peterson.
- 2:34:39He doubled the left center field and when he tried to stretch it into a triple he was thrown out on a great play going from Johnny Lewis to Bud Harrelson to Ken Boyer.
- 2:34:50Mets on that break had their second out and they were only one out away from giving the Giants a very disastrous loss.
- 2:34:58Jim Ray Hart then was put up for a pinch hitter.
- 2:35:00He had been devastating against the Mets all year.
- 2:35:03He had hit eight previous home runs against the Mets.
- 2:35:06He worked the count down to three balls and no strikes, took a strike, and then hit a 3-1 fastball way over the wall in left field to tie up the ballgame.
- 2:35:14Bunzies then fouled out and we went to the top of the tenth.
- 2:35:18Mets in the tenth inning threatened but could not score.
- 2:35:21Bud Harrelson got his second base into the ballgame, a single through the middle.
- 2:35:25He was sacrificed to second base.
- 2:35:28Ken Boyer was then called out on strikes.
- 2:35:31And then Al Lupo who had had two previous home runs was walked intentionally.
- 2:35:35That's what runners at first and second left it up to Eddie Crane Bull.
- 2:35:38Eddie had had four hits in his four previous times up, three of them infield hits, and he hit one off the end of the bat down to short where Fuentes fielded the ball and threw over to second base for the fourth play that retired the side.
- 2:35:51In the tenth inning, the Giants won it after Ken Henderson was out on a fine play by Ken Boyer on a bunt.
- 2:35:57Willie Mays singled and then moved down to second base on a free pass ball play.
- 2:36:03And Willie McCovey hit a curve ball out down the right field line and won the ballgame for the Giants by a score of 6-4.
- 2:36:10While Marishaw was at one time in the ballgame on the losing side of the record, if Jim Ray Hart had not hit his home run, Marishaw would have absorbed his first loss against the Mets.
- 2:36:22He had won 17.
- 2:36:24He was not the winning pitcher.
- 2:36:25Frank Lindsay was the winning pitcher.
- 2:36:26It was his seventh win against 10 losses.
- 2:36:28He was in the ballgame in relief and worked one inning.
- 2:36:31The starting pitcher for the Mets was Dennis Rivent, and the losing pitcher was Larry Miller, his record now 0-2.
- 2:36:39So a fine ballgame closing out the series between the Mets and Giants this year with each team winning nine.
- 2:36:47The line scored the ballgame.
- 2:36:48The Giants six runs on 13 hits.
- 2:36:50They made one error.
- 2:36:51The Mets four runs, 11 hits, and no errors.
- 2:36:56And that's Mets baseball for today brought to you by Reingold, New York City's largest selling beer.
