- 0:00What's going on, everybody? And what's going on, folks?
- 0:03And good day. And today we got another good one, another sports episode here
- 0:07because we are talking baseball.
- 0:10Well, not baseball, but baseball.
- 0:12Now that a few days ago, the World Baseball Classic ended with an upset and
- 0:19a one that perhaps many, many people that follow baseball,
- 0:23whether it's in an international stage or even here in the Western Hemisphere,
- 0:29Team Venezuela beat Team USA 3-2 And we're going to kind of do what we do here
- 0:36in this podcast We're going to grab that little thing because we always got
- 0:38something to discuss And once again, even in sports,
- 0:42we got to bring a little bit of politics We got to bring a little bit of history
- 0:45We got to bring a little bit of everything Let's go Welcome to the legendary
- 0:50podcast of Deconstructing Topic Podcast We're going to grab that little world baseball,
- 0:55classic baseball I mean, we're going to deconstruct a little bit the best way
- 0:59that a legendary host like myself,
- 1:01David, and the legendary audience. They're my deconstructors.
- 1:05Let's go. Let's make it happen.
- 1:08Yeah, sadly, I am. It is kind of disappointing for me.
- 1:12My team, Puerto Rico, we lost in the tournament there to Italy.
- 1:17Hey, listen, shout out to Italy. I think a lot of people have been asking those
- 1:20questions like, you know, Italy plays baseball. Again, there's a lot of Italian-Americans
- 1:26and there's those people out there who, whatever the case might be,
- 1:30just want to play for that team.
- 1:32But listen, for the most part, that Italian team consists of many,
- 1:36many good Italian-Americans.
- 1:39But this is about, again, Team Venezuela. Shout out to Venezuela.
- 1:44Am I surprised? Not really that they won, but they beat USA,
- 1:49the team that probably had the best baseball team out there.
- 1:53Perhaps Dominican Republic?
- 1:57Japan, Korea, who knows, Puerto Rico,
- 2:00but the fact that team Venezuela won this game, and it's going to be interesting
- 2:04because that team, look, my thing is that team is loaded, and when I'm talking
- 2:08about loaded, I'm talking about loaded with baseball players from Wilson Contreras
- 2:13and, you know, future Hall of Fame,
- 2:15Salvador Perez, which is the catchers,
- 2:18infielders, Michael Garcia.
- 2:21Cleber Torres, you know, Eugenio Suarez is doing his thing, Luis Arreyes,
- 2:26you know, obviously maybe one of the best baseball players in the league,
- 2:32in the major league right now, Rana Acuna Jr.
- 2:35And, you know, they had Big Up Cabrera. I think he was one of the coaches,
- 2:40Johan Santana. These are plays.
- 2:41So this is my thing with Team Venezuela. And why am I not surprised?
- 2:46I always, for some reason, when it comes to the world baseball classic,
- 2:50right, and even international baseball, as baseball is a big thing in Puerto Rico.
- 2:56Being that we got so many Hall of Famers, you know, obviously,
- 2:58Roberto Clemente being that part.
- 3:00And then in the Dominican Republic, you already know, Dominican Republic should
- 3:04have its own Hall of Fame.
- 3:06They should just have a Hall of Fame in Dominican Republic, but great players come from there.
- 3:11And then you got Team USA, the rest is history. Baseball, you know,
- 3:14it's a national pastime.
- 3:16Or wash, maybe. Hey, listen, don't get mad at me for those baseball fans out
- 3:20there, But I'm just saying that, yes, Cooperstown, Hall of Fame,
- 3:23all that good stuff in the U.S.
- 3:26And all this time, I kind of have always have said, especially in the last 20 years.
- 3:32It's been a lot of legendary or great baseball players that have come from Venezuela.
- 3:38Not in the same rate as, let's say, Puerto Rico, obviously, Dominican Republic.
- 3:43But there come that day, Johan Santana, pitcher. I believe he pitched over here.
- 3:48If I'm not mistaken, play for the Twins, the Mets, Miguel Cabrera.
- 3:53That's a player there, Bobby Abreu from the Phillies.
- 3:56You know, he had a good, nice little thing going on. So it's not that if this
- 4:01team or this country couldn't produce, like, you know, it's a staple of baseball,
- 4:07but they were trickling little by little.
- 4:10Now I'll bring the Venezuela when it comes to their government and their regime
- 4:14under Chavez and, you know, under Maduro. And now I don't know what the hell is going on.
- 4:20I don't know how these players feel. I do remember there was a baseball player
- 4:25by the name of Maglio Odoñas.
- 4:28And for some reason, ESPN had this Spanish reporter.
- 4:32I'm trying to think of his name. For some reason, it's Pedro.
- 4:35And I believe he's Cuban descent, if I'm not mistaken.
- 4:39He had a tendency. And I remember he was interviewing a Cuban player.
- 4:43I think it was Jacelle Puig in an All-Star game a long time ago.
- 4:47Where he's talking about, well, I guess now you're in the United States.
- 4:50Can you talk about the regime?
- 4:51And he's kind of like pushing the player, not only Jacelle Puig from Cuba.
- 4:55He was talking about Odoñez how he's a
- 4:58Chavez supporter for some reason you
- 5:01know people know that Chavez is it's a 50 50 thing
- 5:04in certain parts certain circle but you know I remember this baseball I mean
- 5:09baseball writer whatever he was I mean and it kind of ticked me off because
- 5:15it's like okay like can you just not think that these people that come from
- 5:19this country whether Cuba, Venezuela,
- 5:22especially those two countries because of their political thing and clash with
- 5:27the United States government.
- 5:29Perhaps they're just coming over here to play baseball and have fun, you know?
- 5:34Now, sometimes things get a little bit political, but, hey, he made it political.
- 5:37But for some reason, I always remember that.
- 5:39And seeing people like Maglio Donets, again, Bobby Abreu and all these players, hey, listen.
- 5:44You know, you start. So, basically, with Venezuela, there's an interesting,
- 5:48you know, dynamic there.
- 5:50But if you had these baseball players and now they're coming back with certain
- 5:54money, building these camps, then you're going to get some of the younger players coming.
- 5:58It's kind of the same thing in Dominican Republic where now because there's
- 6:03been many great Dominican baseball players that now they are making money in baseball.
- 6:08They're not being exploited like they did 20, 30, 40 years ago that now they
- 6:15could give back. Now they could open camps. Now we could have...
- 6:19The more control versus, let's say, the Major League Baseball.
- 6:23So Team Venezuela, once again, shout out. I might not surprise.
- 6:27Like I said, I always felt that Venezuela is always Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic.
- 6:31In terms of the land countries, Mexico, once in a while, they'll sneak in.
- 6:35Because Mexico, despite being, when it comes to sports, they're more of boxing, obviously.
- 6:43You already know. MMA, they're doing their thing.
- 6:47Soccer, they're doing their thing. They'll be hosting one of the three host
- 6:50nations in the 2026 FIFA.
- 6:53So I always saw Venezuela like, damn, like it ain't like this.
- 6:58You know, how can I say they're not like Nicaragua, right?
- 7:01They're not Guatemala. They're not of these other land countries.
- 7:05I mean, this is with all due respect to those land countries and,
- 7:08you know, great baseball players that come from there.
- 7:11But Venezuela just had something going on little by little by little by little.
- 7:16And then now, boom, they beat the United States.
- 7:19And to the surprise of many people, again, they did their thing.
- 7:24And shout out to Venezuela.
- 7:25So that's the situation with that, the World Baseball Classic.
- 7:28I tried to watch, but again, it's like I'm doing podcasts.
- 7:34I'm doing other content.
- 7:35I'm a guest in other people's podcasts, which I love, love, love. I'm doing my thing.
- 7:41I'm trying to do so much in my life. and I got a regular so-called nine-to-five job.
- 7:46So basically the time, it's there.
- 7:50So hang there with me because you already know, you got to hit that like,
- 7:54subscribe, and all that good stuff, and we're going to be talking about a little bit of it all.
- 7:59But the word baseball classic is something that I've always enjoyed because baseball,
- 8:04even though it's deeply rooted here and founded here in the United States of
- 8:09America, the fact that I always find so interesting how this American sport
- 8:14got to Japan and Japan, wow.
- 8:18I've seen a couple of documentaries and,
- 8:21a couple where they train these boys and sometimes the girls too so boy but
- 8:28they train these boys like military style baseball and and you would think like
- 8:34wow you know Dominican Republic,
- 8:36have been you know again my understanding that it has been exploited by Major
- 8:42League Baseball and certain teams you know let's just not forget that let's
- 8:45just not forget for a young age,
- 8:47By the time I've heard stories of baseball players in the Dominican Republic
- 8:51that are 20, especially pitchers that are 20, 21, who are already,
- 8:56how can I say, over the hill, wasted.
- 8:59Because in order for certain parts of, in the Dominican Republic,
- 9:03especially poverty, baseball is the way to go.
- 9:06But Japan might be a little bit different. Japan is just a discipline of if
- 9:10you want to be a baseball player, just don't pick up a bat and don't pick up
- 9:15a glove and don't pick up a baseball and pleats and, oh, I want to be a baseball player, don't we?
- 9:21You know, the documentaries, the minute that you say either you're a parent
- 9:25and you put your kids in these baseball camps, I mean, I've seen it all.
- 9:30I mean, hey, listen, I ain't going to discriminate.
- 9:32I ain't going to point the finger again. We all in this world get exploited.
- 9:36But things are real with it in Japan. Wow, no wonder why they got some of these
- 9:41great Diotanis, all these great baseball players.
- 9:44And it's disappointing if they don't end up in the top three.
- 9:48But I'm just saying, this is a little bit different. Once again,
- 9:52Venezuela, all around great players.
- 9:55Great, great thing, great atmosphere for the World Baseball Classic. Again, I enjoyed it.
- 10:01I'm hoping for maybe every three years, perhaps. But listen,
- 10:04I think they're doing every four years or maybe I think it's three years,
- 10:09if I'm not mistaken. But again, it's something that it brings certain things.
- 10:13And you see the Dominican fans that by far, by far, I think they win it.
- 10:19Like, that's why I wanted Dominican Republic to win. They lost to USA.
- 10:24It's because, I mean, these fans, I mean, and Venezuelan Dominican Republic,
- 10:28they have a little rivalry going on here.
- 10:31Because Dominican Republic, even though, again, they were the number one team.
- 10:36They were the best team. Now, it's Venezuela.
- 10:38They saw Venezuela as that team. Like, wait a minute.
- 10:41That team got, you know, they got a little swag going on, but they are more of, how can I say?
- 10:47Look, listen, we're going to play baseball, and we got nothing to prove.
- 10:50You guys do the crazy thing, but, hey, listen, once again, Dominican Republic
- 10:54fans out there, shout out to you guys. So Puerto Rico as well.
- 10:59Japan got a little bit of flavors and so on and so forth. Venezuela got a little
- 11:03flavors, so on and so forth. So let's see.
- 11:06The atmosphere for the fans, it looks like it's great. I would love to attend a baseball game.
- 11:11You know, we're a baseball classic. I would love to.
- 11:15So, you know, because it's a different atmosphere. Again, people are having
- 11:19fun. Players are having fun. Let them do their thing.
- 11:22It's not like they're playing these high-scoring games that nobody's pitching,
- 11:26you know, like let's say in these exhibition or so-called exhibition basketball.
- 11:31Where you play one team, it's like 150 to 140. You know, these are intense games.
- 11:37It kind of not too far from, you know, some of the hockey games,
- 11:41especially United States and
- 11:42Canada, that no matter where, if it's exhibition, tournament, Olympics,
- 11:47heaven, hell, earth, whenever these two teams are playing, you're going to see
- 11:52something crazy, and they don't care.
- 11:53And the players don't care if I get injured and if I'm playing for the New York
- 11:58Rangers or LA Kings or NHL, KSL, whatever league, as long as I put Team USA
- 12:06and Team Canada, we're going at it.
- 12:09So World Baseball Classic, it brings that. It brings that pride and joy of your
- 12:14country, representing the many people in certain countries. So more power to them.
- 12:20Look, there's some people out here that they don't care about it,
- 12:23whatever the case. For the most part, it's Americans. I'll be honest.
- 12:26It's Americans are the ones that are saying, I mean, you know,
- 12:29where's baseball classic?
- 12:31Because, you know, fans are not, you know, they're not that fun.
- 12:33I mean, I love the Yankees. I be straight up.
- 12:36I go there and I'm like, which is this? It's like, oh, how can I say it to you?
- 12:42Like, where am I going? Am I going to church?
- 12:45Now, you got the people that are out of here, the people, you know,
- 12:48shout out to the fans in the bleachers.
- 12:51Shout out to those fans. But then, you know, you get clusters of fans that are
- 12:56going there to watch their baseball in the room.
- 12:58Then you got these rowdy fans that are basically drinking and don't know how to act.
- 13:04So, I mean, I've seen highlights of some Dominican, you know,
- 13:08fans that were drinking and they still was having fun, you know,
- 13:12smacking those, you know, the merengue, the dembo and all that good stuff.
- 13:16So, shout out to those people. So, let's say, let's hope, hopefully we could
- 13:20definitely get this World Baseball Classic. I got to check it out if it's every
- 13:25three years or every four years or so.
- 13:28It's definitely for me. It brings a different atmosphere. Of course,
- 13:32I know that my team, Puerto Rico, is always going to do.
- 13:34But this year, you know, I don't know what happened. There was a lot of politicking
- 13:39going on that certain players couldn't play with the team and whatever.
- 13:44Listen, Puerto Rico, start getting other people to play for your country.
- 13:48Go to Venezuela. Hey, listen, be like Venezuela and Puerto Rico is one country.
- 13:52But you got to play for Puerto Rico.
- 13:54But anyways, definitely so much fun. Let's see what, you know,
- 13:58what the next three years brings in,
- 14:00whatever it is, the next baseball award baseball classic hopefully major league
- 14:04baseball and the fans in itself the american fans come on you could do it i'm
- 14:09pretty sure there's certain stadiums that are louder than others and have more
- 14:13fun but sometimes we need a little bit of that thing in praise.
- 14:18My thing has always been with the American fans, and when I say American fans,
- 14:21those who are born here in the United States,
- 14:25that a lot of times, and again, and when I say born in the United States,
- 14:29you're leaning towards more like, you know, let's say white,
- 14:32black that were born here.
- 14:33That when it comes to baseball, baseball has changed. Baseball is international.
- 14:40Baseball has a lot of great plays international.
- 14:43And there's a lot of stadiums that have cater.
- 14:47And I remember when the New York Yankees, and I'm trying to,
- 14:51you know, whether it's Hideki Matsui and Japanese baseball, there was a section
- 14:56where they started serving Japanese food, sushi, and so on.
- 15:00And I would love for baseball to embrace these different cultures.
- 15:05They throw the little rice and
- 15:07beans, something, you know, appropriate to certain people of your team.
- 15:12Because baseball, it's international.
- 15:15You know, yes, that's why it's no longer, you know, the national pastime,
- 15:19as they would say. That belongs to football.
- 15:22Football is a different story, even though football have many international
- 15:27players as well. But in terms of baseball and football and international,
- 15:32two different monsters.
- 15:34Baseball definitely covers so many countries. And people that were born in those
- 15:38countries that are playing here.
- 15:39For the most part, I think that in NFL, I believe like 90, 95% of the players are born here.
- 15:45Even though some might say, oh, you know, I'm from this certain,
- 15:48you know, background because of my parents.
- 15:51But baseball in itself is no longer, my opinion, it's no longer a national pastime.
- 15:57It's an international pastime.
- 15:59And let's enjoy, let's embrace, let people from other countries,
- 16:03let the Dominican fans trickle, whether it's the, you know, Cedarville and the
- 16:08Mets, Yankee Stadium, doing a little merengue.
- 16:11I see Boston. Boston had a history of Dominican players, Big Papi, Pedro Ortiz, Manny.
- 16:17You already know. And in other parts where there's other people,
- 16:20you know, L.A. with the Japanese crowd, with Otani. You already know.
- 16:24But let's make it happen. You already know. This is your boy,
- 16:27the legend, David, deep consulting type of podcast.
- 16:30Once again, we're talking baseball.
- 16:33Hopefully, baseball coming soon, the media leaks. Let's go, Yankees.
- 16:37Let's go. Peace out. I'm out. Peace.
