- Lucas: Ciao Luna, bentornata. Ready for another episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo? Luna: Ciao Lucas! Yeah, I'm excited. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to the pharmacy. Imagine you're in Italy and you need to buy some medicine. I'll teach you the key phrases. Luna: Oh, that's super useful. I always worry about getting sick when I travel. Lucas: Exactly. And if this episode helps you feel more prepared, honestly, if it was worth a coffee to you, that's the link: buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Keeps us ad-free. Luna: Yeah, for sure. Every bit helps us keep making these lessons. Lucas: Alright, so first phrase: Cercavo qualcosa per il mal di testa. That means 'I was looking for something for a headache.' Let's break it down: cercavo is 'I was looking for', qualcosa is 'something', per is 'for', il mal di testa is 'headache'. So: Cercavo qualcosa per il mal di testa. Luna: Cercavo qualcosa per il mal di testa. Got it. What if I have a cold? Lucas: Great question. You can say: Avete qualcosa per il raffreddore? That means 'Do you have something for a cold?' Avete is 'you have', il raffreddore is 'cold'. So: Avete qualcosa per il raffreddore? Luna: Avete qualcosa per il raffreddore? And what would the pharmacist say? Lucas: They might say: Prenda questo medicinale. That's 'Take this medicine.' Prenda is the formal command 'take', questo is 'this', medicinale is 'medicine'. Luna: Prenda questo medicinale. Okay, and then I'd want to know how often to take it. Lucas: Right. You can ask: Quante volte al giorno? That means 'How many times a day?' Quante is 'how many', volte is 'times', al giorno is 'per day'. Luna: Quante volte al giorno? And a possible answer? Lucas: Una compressa al giorno. 'One tablet per day.' Compressa is 'tablet'. So: Una compressa al giorno. Luna: Una compressa al giorno. And then I'd say I'll take it: Va bene, prendo questo. 'Okay, I'll take this.' Lucas: Exactly. Prendo is 'I take', questo is 'this'. So: Va bene, prendo questo. Luna: Let me try the whole conversation. Cercavo qualcosa per il mal di testa. Lucas: Perfect. And the pharmacist says: Prenda questo medicinale. Luna: Oh, then I ask: Quante volte al giorno? Lucas: And they answer: Una compressa al giorno. Luna: Va bene, prendo questo. Nailed it. Lucas: You did great. Let's do a quick role-play. I'll be the pharmacist. You come in and say you have a cold. Luna: Buongiorno. Avete qualcosa per il raffreddore? Lucas: Prenda questo medicinale. Luna: Quante volte al giorno? Lucas: Una compressa al giorno. Luna: Va bene, prendo questo. Grazie! Lucas: Excellent. Now you're ready to handle a pharmacy visit in Italy. Remember, practice these phrases and they'll become natural. Thanks for listening to Fexingo. Luna: Yeah, see you next time! Ciao! Lucas: Ciao!
