- 2:37Well, this is the first movie that we've watched.
- 2:39This is the first movie we've watched in 2026, so your second
- 2:43review, but our first movie watched this was Noah's Picks.
- 2:47Noah got to bring us into the new year, so that's fucking
- 2:50awesome. If you've stuck around with us
- 2:52so far, thank you so much. We actually do have some pretty
- 2:58cool stuff. Oh.
- 2:58Yeah, we, no, we do. We are plugging and digging away
- 3:02at some cool shit, so get ready for that.
- 3:04We're working on it right now, but we're not here to talk about
- 3:08the cool shit we got in the background.
- 3:10Noah, this is your pick meet on Bubba.
- 3:14This week I picked 1981's Road Games.
- 3:19Rd. Games is an Australian made
- 3:21thriller directed by Richard Franklin starring Stacy Keach.
- 3:26Is that how you say that? I think so.
- 3:29And Jamie Lee Curtis, there's a bit, I got a bit of business as
- 3:37I usually do. So you can't really talk about a
- 3:40movie like this without mentioning the genre of movie
- 3:44known as Ozploitation. Ozploitation refers that is so
- 3:50that this movie is a well known example of that.
- 3:54What Ozploitation is is a genre of low budget movies that are
- 3:59produced in Australia. The term comes from a fringe
- 4:03branch of the new wave movement in film production.
- 4:07Often times the movies would be low budget and feature some well
- 4:11known actors but some unknown actors.
- 4:13Often times those well known actors are imports.
- 4:17In this case we have two American leads while everybody
- 4:21else in the cast is Australian. Similar to what we talked about
- 4:27for Black Christmas, countries like Australia and Canada sort
- 4:32of mandate that a certain percentage of the media there in
- 4:36the country be local. So that's why this movie ended
- 4:42up being made in Australia is because they approached the
- 4:46director who is from Australia, although he lived in the US to
- 4:51come over and and make his movie there.
- 4:54That that's cool. The the the genres where you get
- 4:58movies like the Mad Max franchise, which is considered
- 5:02to be ospotation film. There's a ton of like, yeah,
- 5:06like the original Mad Max and even Mad Max.
- 5:08That makes sense. That that makes sense.
- 5:11Like when you look, when you look at like lists of ospotation
- 5:14movies, Mad Max is always on those lists, even the new ones.
- 5:20So even Furiosa was on that list.
- 5:23OK. But it it is somewhat of a Gray
- 5:28area because movies like Crocodile Dundee, which is a
- 5:31very famous Australian film series, is not considered to be
- 5:36Ozploitation. So I'm not really sure what it
- 5:40takes to qualify. But it seems that like a lot of
- 5:42them have to be it's they have to be like trauma level movies
- 5:47but made in Australia. It just seems so odd.
- 5:52Yeah, it it's, it's, it's a thing of like film production.
- 5:57They want to boost that industry in those countries.
- 6:00In America, we have the massive Hollywood machine, but they
- 6:04don't have that in other countries.
- 6:05But it does bring in a lot of money and a lot of jobs.
- 6:09You saw a big example of that was when they made the Lord of
- 6:13the Rings movies and then The Hobbit movies.
- 6:15There was all like a whole thing, 'cause they had an entire
- 6:18New Zealander team and it was a big deal when they were like,
- 6:22we're actually going to bring in an American team and they were
- 6:25like, well, you're not going to do it in New Zealand then.
- 6:27Because what they're trying to do is like create jobs in these
- 6:30industries. But it's not really something we
- 6:32think of in the States because the film industry is like huge
- 6:36here. Well, it's also got like a
- 6:38shroud of mysticism to it. You don't look at the background
- 6:42like almost like production of it.
- 6:46You you just, you get the outcome or you see the behind
- 6:48the scenes footage. Do you remember?
- 6:51Do you remember better? Watch out.
- 6:53Yeah. Entirely Australian casted
- 6:56movie. So is that an AUS like?
- 6:59No, because. I I don't think that would.
- 7:01Be an Australian accent. Necessarily, I think because it
- 7:05had a higher budget or I don't know what, like it's hard.
- 7:08It's hard to say what exactly would.
- 7:10Yeah, exactly. But that was all Aussie actors
- 7:14doing an American accent. This was 2 American actors and
- 7:18just everybody else around them is just Australia.
- 7:21You scared us so bad. Yeah, what?
- 7:25Because we we heard everything you just said, luckily, but
- 7:29everything froze on your end. The YouTube video is about to
- 7:31look wild. Here's what.
- 7:33Seems like, oh, now I see you, I see you guys reacting to
- 7:36something and I. Wasn't meeting.
- 7:38Actually, they're going. I'm like, oh, like looking
- 7:40behind me in the camera. Like 2 little kids with saucer
- 7:44eyes going. All right, Well, as long as the
- 7:47audio's fine. It works.
- 7:48It's worth. Watching me freeze.
- 7:50I'll ride it perfectly, OK. All right, OK, so the movie was
- 7:58it sort of came about while that while Franklin was not Franklin.
- 8:03Jeez, tripping over my words here.
- 8:06Richard Franklin. He was making a movie called
- 8:08Franklin with his writing partner and he gave him a copy
- 8:13of the 1954 movie Rear Window, which was a mystery
- 8:17psychological thriller to show him how he wanted Rd. games to
- 8:20play out, which explains a lot about the movie.
- 8:24It's somewhat of a thriller, somewhat of a serial killer
- 8:28movie, but all it's it's very much like a mystery.
- 8:33Originally they wanted to give the lead role to Sean Connery,
- 8:37however they couldn't afford him, so they went with Stacy
- 8:40Keach, who is well known for TV work and stage work, and he's
- 8:44had a long prolific career after the movie, despite spending some
- 8:50time in prison after making this one.
- 8:52What? Why?
- 8:53Yeah, he went to jail. He went to prison for like 6
- 8:56months for some financial crime. Oh whatever.
- 8:59Fuck off. Yeah.
- 9:00Yeah, some. Well, yeah, it was just a little
- 9:04bit, but it didn't really seem to affect his career.
- 9:07He. Did his time too.
- 9:10Yeah, he did. And then he got out.
- 9:11It was never, nothing really ever seemed to come of it didn't
- 9:14affect his career. Old Wesley's night situation.
- 9:17Yeah, he's been in a ton of things.
- 9:20They were going to cast Lisa Pierce for the female lead. the
- 9:26US distributors insisted on an American costar and suggested
- 9:30Jamie Lee Curtis, who was well known for her role in Halloween
- 9:33at this time. She had only done like a couple
- 9:36of other small projects before this.
- 9:39There was some trouble with the production trying to cast to
- 9:43Americans for this Australian film, which resulted in a delay
- 9:47of production until eventually the suits in Sydney approved of
- 9:49her casting and they expanded the role of Hitch to take full
- 9:54advantage of having Jamie Lee there.
- 9:57That's cool. This movie bombed pretty bad.
- 10:03It bombed twice, once in Australia on its first release
- 10:07and then again later in the same year in the US, and the director
- 10:12blamed that on the marketing of the movie that he they were
- 10:16trying to market it as more of like a slasher.
- 10:19Oh, instead of like a psychological.
- 10:21Yeah, where he he was angling for more of the mystery.
- 10:27You know, that's the whole thing, the whole.
- 10:30Yeah, suspense. The whole thing plays out like a
- 10:32chase. But eventually, eventually, this
- 10:36movie did find somewhat of a cult following and has a 92% on
- 10:40Rotten Tomatoes and a 71 out of 100 on Metacritic.
- 10:44So it's considered to be better than average.
- 10:47But some critics called it said that it was a little bit
- 10:50pretentious. What was pretentious about this
- 10:54movie? It's.
- 10:54Just, I don't know, I think they just kind of felt like it was up
- 10:58its own ass a little bit. I think maybe what would do it
- 11:02for me, What is the out loud monologuing that the main
- 11:08character is doing with the dingo the whole time?
- 11:10Yeah, there is, because he's kind of, he's kind of doing the
- 11:12Redditor thing. He's kind of like, it seems that
- 11:15this is a man. I can't place my finger on it.
- 11:20A little bit, a little bit of him, like just driving the truck
- 11:22and stroking his chin, like I wonder what could be going on.
- 11:26He's like, he is quoting a lot of poetry.
- 11:28He's doing a lot of like that type of shit too.
- 11:30Yeah, he's like it's. Also a lot of inner thought you
- 11:34hear and then he talks out loud to himself or.
- 11:38Bazzi, well, that I like that because that that was like
- 11:41playing on the whole like, well, yeah, he's talking to Bazzi, but
- 11:44his dog or Dingo, he. Thinks it's a dingo, but it's a.
- 11:48Dog, he thinks it's a dog, but like the trucker exhaustion is
- 11:53very real. And I like that they played into
- 11:55the trucker exhaustion because you can see like he is like at
- 11:58his fucking rope dude. Like he's at the end of that
- 12:01shit. And he says like he's
- 12:03hallucinating. Yeah.
- 12:06Did you get a jump scare out of? Yeah, you do they.
- 12:09I mean, I think it's really, it's really good that they play
- 12:11into that. Like when the woman flags him
- 12:14down by she put like toilet paper across the road.
- 12:18Was it pink ass paper? Was that like, was that real?
- 12:22Because they never remove it and he just drives past.
- 12:24So I I wonder if that was real. It was she had a she's sat down
- 12:29the role of it when she got in the truck.
- 12:32Oh, OK. Yeah, he looked at it.
- 12:35Gotcha. So he when it when the movie
- 12:39starts out, he's at a hotel and he's going to he's going to get
- 12:44a room for the night and he sees this green van and this like SUS
- 12:51looking guy with a little cooler and trash bags.
- 12:54And he goes in the room. And then it just like hard cuts
- 12:58to the next morning and he's outside and his dog is like
- 13:01sniffing around in the trash and the guy in the window is
- 13:04watching like right off the RIP. It's like setting up that he's
- 13:10clearly seen something that he's not supposed to be seeing, and
- 13:15then it just sort of cascades that way.
- 13:18He's got a job that he's doing, but it's along the same route
- 13:23that this guy is also travelling.
- 13:25So it is that cat and mouse game.
- 13:27But it does kind of feel like it's lucky that the job also had
- 13:31him on this route because he was going to follow that guy no
- 13:33matter what. Yeah, yeah, he wasn't going to
- 13:36stop following this guy. Yeah, as much as he said he
- 13:39didn't care, he. The entire time, I mean, he led
- 13:43he, he kind of leaned into his insanity a bit too.
- 13:45He's like, I'm not doing this. And he's just like just a little
- 13:48bit further and like there's always something compelling and
- 13:51like something would happen that would compel him to go further
- 13:54and further and follow. I like that a lot.
- 13:57There's also, like, there's a lot of things that are like,
- 14:01setting up something that don't necessarily lead to anything
- 14:05else. Like he does.
- 14:06He ends up picking up an older woman who says that her husband,
- 14:10like, drove off without her. And like, when they're in the
- 14:14truck driving and like, the radio is playing and she's
- 14:18telling him about how there's like, someone out there
- 14:21kidnapping girls. And he's like telling her about
- 14:25the guy he saw, and she thinks that he's the killer.
- 14:29Yeah. And then when she runs off, I
- 14:31don't know if you caught it, but when they're standing at the
- 14:33Cliff, she's like, I'm in some trouble and there's some people
- 14:37after us. I, I think she thinks that he's
- 14:40like an unrelated third party who's giving her family trouble
- 14:46for causing the strike. That is the reason why there's
- 14:49no meat in Perth, which is the reason that he has got the meat
- 14:53to take to Perth. It's just so interconnected.
- 14:56It was, it was really crazy. Like I got to go back and watch
- 15:00Rear Window because I think that movie has a lot more to do with
- 15:03this one than we think that. 'D be cool.
- 15:09What? Nothing.
- 15:12Everything connects bro. It it does.
- 15:14And I, I was confused with that at first.
- 15:16I'll know it has brought that up because she was like, yeah, no,
- 15:19don't hurt. Me it was so quick in trouble so
- 15:21quick and you'll miss it. And also like she says that
- 15:26she's been left behind by her husband, but she like when they
- 15:30get to they go to the Roadhouse and she doesn't even try to call
- 15:34anybody. She just immediately starts
- 15:36chatting with the the motorcycle.
- 15:38Guy and it's the same conversation she started having
- 15:40with him. Exactly, exactly.
- 15:42It's just like. They brought up the husband and
- 15:46family on the radio at one point when he was driving Floyd.
- 15:52Yeah, fucking weird bro. So there's a bit of when they
- 15:59are driving before they get to the Roadhouse, they do see the,
- 16:04the woman, her name is Sunny. She sees our guy like the killer
- 16:10digging a hole, but she doesn't know that it's the same guy from
- 16:13the hotel and he's got trash bags and a little red cooler,
- 16:17which is sort of a through line of like the, our, our main guy,
- 16:22Pat Quid. He thinks like that's the body
- 16:27and that's like the chopped up body of the victim.
- 16:31Spoiler it is, but the whole thing is like, he's not sure of
- 16:35it, but the guy's acting all SUS and they're driving around and
- 16:40he's like, he'll get in front of him or he'll be behind him and
- 16:43they get like separated for a bit.
- 16:45But the whole thing is like him trying to figure out like,
- 16:47what's in those bags? What's in that cooler?
- 16:50Yeah, when he pulls out the binoculars.
- 16:54Yeah, he pulls. Down at him and the the killer
- 16:57notices him and he just like, puts it down and like looks up
- 17:01into the sky and whistles. Like you're not the only three
- 17:03people in the middle of the fucking desert with nothing
- 17:05around. Like there's not nobody within
- 17:08200 miles of this place. So there's a very smart assy
- 17:12type of guy too. Doesn't like, almost doesn't
- 17:15give a fuck. Like he knows it's on them.
- 17:17That part, like he knows that this guy knows something.
- 17:21Yeah. I think at a certain point he's
- 17:24like, I'm not going to, I'm probably not going to be able to
- 17:28get away with this. Yeah, not getting out of this
- 17:31time type shit. Yeah.
- 17:33But eventually they he almost did.
- 17:36He almost did. We will get to that, yes.
- 17:39They. At some point I, I like, blinked
- 17:44and I missed it. At some point, Jamie Lee Curtis
- 17:47goes just missing. Yeah, so basically they're at a
- 17:50truck stop and he's like kind of working on his truck.
- 17:54He's working on the engine or whatever he's working on,
- 17:56doesn't matter. And they go around the corner
- 17:59and they see the green van. The the whole thing is the green
- 18:02van, the guy in the green van. And he goes into the bathroom
- 18:08and sees some feet under a stall.
- 18:11And then you see the green van and he's like, just go, you
- 18:15know, go check it out, whatever. She goes check it out, crawls in
- 18:18there. Cut to the next shot while a car
- 18:22horn is going off. The entire scene.
- 18:24Yeah, the entire scene. It's fucking blaring, which I
- 18:27liked. I'll, I'll bring that up during
- 18:29my like, I guess recap. But so that's happening.
- 18:32And then the door opens and it's the motorcycle guy.
- 18:36And they say, what the fuck, dude?
- 18:38And then he goes back outside and the fucking van is gone
- 18:40because the guy was in the van the entire time under a sleeping
- 18:43bag. So she crawls over and he's just
- 18:45like, and he it just, it just cuts right there.
- 18:48You're like, oh shit. So yeah, that's that scene.
- 18:51Yeah, that's good. That's a good scene.
- 18:53It's set up so you're not supposed to really know what
- 18:57what happened but he drives off to chase the van first.
- 19:03He like steals the motorcycle for like a second for like no
- 19:06reason dude. So he like steals the motorcycle
- 19:10and drives it like 200 feet to the truck.
- 19:12Just to flip it in fall. Yeah, like it's so unnecessary,
- 19:16but it was really funny. And then they just like kind of
- 19:22drive for a little bit longer till they do finally get to the
- 19:26city and then the police from earlier, cuz the police are also
- 19:31following them. Yeah, they all kind of catch up
- 19:35to each other and then it's a bit of a slow speed chase
- 19:39through the city. Yeah, which is a cool little
- 19:42chase, yeah. Yeah, it was.
- 19:44Very, very slow. Yeah, it is very slow and the
- 19:47movie definitely tells you that because there's a few close up
- 19:49shots of the speedometer and it's like sub 20 miles an hour.
- 19:54I never seen like a action shot of a speedometer when the speed
- 19:57is that low. This is how slow this is going.
- 20:02We get it, Yeah. But eventually the the van guy,
- 20:06he drives into like an alleyway like or a small like service
- 20:11road and quid is just like, well, I've come this far and he
- 20:16just drives the truck in there. They get wedged, I think the van
- 20:20breaks down and then the cops get stuck under the trailer.
- 20:27The car get stuck under the trailer.
- 20:28The one cop is like go check out what's going on top.
- 20:31Yeah and he goes up under the truck and then he gets stuck
- 20:34under the truck cuz like our homeboy, what's his name?
- 20:38Floyd, Not Floyd. The main guy, Quid.
- 20:41No, no. Oh, Floyd.
- 20:42Yeah. The the.
- 20:43The way truck stop, Yeah, at the weight, at the weight, at the
- 20:46weight station. He's all you got some shit under
- 20:49your fucking Axel, man. Well, he tells him he's he tells
- 20:53him he's over the weight. Limit 75 kilos?
- 20:56No, not. Kilos 75K.
- 20:59Something like that, yeah, which?
- 21:02That which that was the. It's the.
- 21:05Anchor. Boat.
- 21:06It's the anchor from the boat, from that little.
- 21:08Yeah, there's a bit of, there's a there's a small reoccurring
- 21:12guy who's towing a boat. That's the thing though, they're
- 21:15all reoccurring. Did you notice at the end?
- 21:18They're all there too. All really.
- 21:22Biker guy, Boat guy Sunny. Lady Well, I know that the biker
- 21:26guy and Sunny were there, but I had I thought that like, I mean,
- 21:31all the roads lead to Perth because Perth is like the most
- 21:36yeah, western city. In Houston was there too.
- 21:38They were all there. They were all there at Perth,
- 21:40yeah, which is neat, but yeah, the cops.
- 21:43Yeah, it is the one. Cop gets stuck.
- 21:45I love that. I love the reoccurring guy with
- 21:47the boat because the first time you see him he's like going all
- 21:51swervy because the truck and the man are trying to get around him
- 21:54and it is just windscreen just explodes for no reason.
- 21:58I didn't see, did did you guys see anything come off and hit
- 22:01his windshield? Because I just saw it break.
- 22:04No, I didn't see. Anything.
- 22:05I didn't see anything either. Yeah, so his wind windshield
- 22:08breaks, and then you see him again in his car at the
- 22:11Roadhouse where he's getting his windshield repaired.
- 22:16And then you see him again and he's still, like, behaving like
- 22:21an asshole on the road and swerving around and then
- 22:24eventually just ramming his boat into the truck.
- 22:27And then it gets destroyed and flips over, comes off of the car
- 22:31and the anchor gets caught up in the truck.
- 22:35Yeah, there's. A lot of it's a it's a pretty
- 22:37good. I jinx in this.
- 22:39Yeah, a lot of a lot of shenanigans going on, but.
- 22:43Then everything connects. It does.
- 22:45It's, it's, it's kind of crazy. Like it's very well written,
- 22:49like it was clearly well thought out.
- 22:53You know, despite the fact that in my little research I've I
- 22:59found that they wrote the first draft of this movie at a hotel
- 23:02in Fiji over 8 days. God damn.
- 23:07Now of course they probably did edits, but to plan all this out
- 23:11in less than 10 days? That's seriously impressive.
- 23:14Oh, it's drugs, dude. While you're on vacation?
- 23:16Yeah, because you're in Fiji. Well, they weren't.
- 23:18They weren't on on vacation. They were shooting Blue Lagoon.
- 23:23Oh, OK. Yeah, OK.
- 23:26So they were writing it after shooting that movie.
- 23:30That's cool. So they all get, they all get
- 23:34wedged in the alleyway. It's all coming to a head.
- 23:38The killer's getting out of the car and he's smashing the lights
- 23:40of the truck. Yeah, it's looking like there's
- 23:43going to be like a fight and then he's just like flooring it.
- 23:47They're trying to he's trying to restart the the van and the the
- 23:52trailer hitch like separates. Yeah, the fifth wheel separates
- 23:56from the trailer the. 5th wheel separates and he the the semi
- 24:01does like a wheelie in the crushes.
- 24:03The van that yell. He did the most real yell in a
- 24:08movie prices utopia trailer but. I would have done something like
- 24:11that. I'm like, well.
- 24:13It's not. It's not like a.
- 24:14It's not like a. Whoa.
- 24:16It's not like a. It's like a.
- 24:19It was like a terrified. It's like the yell your dad does
- 24:25when he slips on the ice. Oh my God, yeah, it's.
- 24:30That we all know that, yeah. Like.
- 24:32Well, mixed with the cock sucking fucking winter.
- 24:36I hate it, right? How did that not crush the van
- 24:42completely? I don't know.
- 24:43A semi truck landed on. It that is death that van, that
- 24:47van does not hold up to a fucking Mercedes semi cab.
- 24:51I don't. I didn't think so.
- 24:53No, no, no, no. That's death, brother.
- 24:55You getting? I think with death, especially
- 24:57because it landed on the back. It landed on the whole of it.
- 25:02Well, it mostly went on the back I think.
- 25:04Like the back axle? Well, like the IT, Yeah, it went
- 25:08on like the open area of the van.
- 25:11The backyard. Yeah, I listen.
- 25:13I don't know bro that everyone's dead in that instance except for
- 25:17him. Like quid for hitch wine, He's
- 25:19fine. Well then Quid gets out and he
- 25:22starts. Well, he yeah, he gets out and
- 25:25then the killer sneaks up behind him with the with the piano
- 25:27wire. And tries to.
- 25:30Yeah, tries to choke him and then the other guy Quid and he
- 25:34he gets out of the the piano wire and he like beats his head
- 25:38into a like sewer and then he grabs the piano wire and wraps
- 25:43around his neck. And just then all the cops show
- 25:46up and all the people show up for a second there.
- 25:49We're like, oh, no, like they're going to he's going to get away
- 25:54with it because the the killer starts like back into the crowd.
- 25:57And I could see I was watching both like your reactions, like
- 26:01he's going to fucking get away with this.
- 26:03I was getting pissed. Well, also I thought I had like
- 26:06a crazy thought in my head. I was like, OK, this entire time
- 26:09this is happening, he's chasing this guy.
- 26:11She gets in the car. I was like, what if it's just
- 26:13some bystander? And like, like, he was going
- 26:16crazy the entire movie, But like, we're seeing him act
- 26:20normal, but the entire movie is him going crazy.
- 26:24And we're missing the idiosyncraticies,
- 26:26idiosyncrasies, idiosyncrasies that the movie is trying to show
- 26:31us. Because I was like, this is that
- 26:34would be crazy. But what they do in this is also
- 26:36good because she's like, OK, cool.
- 26:38So like we get a bit of a win here.
- 26:42I like, yeah, needed that win. And then what do you know?
- 26:46It's Jamie. Lee Curtis was in the sleeping
- 26:50bag the whole time. And she tells everybody that
- 26:53it's that he's not the killer. Yeah, very angry.
- 26:56He's, Yeah, very angry. She's very angry in the end
- 27:00here, which I would be too. God knows how long she was in
- 27:03that sleeping bag and it's probably hot in there.
- 27:05That Van Pride definitely doesn't have AC.
- 27:08Don't smell good? No.
- 27:10No, probably didn't smell great. I love the the killer, like he
- 27:16almost gets away and they bumps into a cop and he's like where
- 27:18do you think you're going? His no dialogue either.
- 27:23You should. It's just, you know, his eyes
- 27:24going. He never speaks, he never says
- 27:26anything. No, no, I like that a lot about
- 27:28this. Like Killer Guy, this is a
- 27:29serial killer. Yeah, this one.
- 27:31He doesn't say a single thing. Yeah.
- 27:33So then I guess after that it kind of just wraps up, I guess
- 27:38the the the insinuation is that nobody gets in trouble for
- 27:44causing any property damage and they just abandoned the truck.
- 27:48Yep. Cuz he said it had $100,000
- 27:51worth of damage. It's a part of the city now.
- 27:54Bro. That truck is the landmark.
- 27:55You leave it there. It's.
- 27:56Just part of it. In Detroit, it wouldn't.
- 27:58They'd yeah. Leave out there that that's Rd.
- 28:02games. That is Rd.
- 28:04Games. There was.
- 28:05I liked it. One part though, did you all
- 28:08hear the fucking ticking coming from the van or was I?
- 28:12Yeah, yeah, having no, I heard. That OK?
- 28:14OK. Did you think there was a bomb?
- 28:17Yes, I did too. OK.
- 28:18And the OK cool. Just a ticking.
- 28:22No one noticed it in the movie. It was just us or all right.
- 28:26I wondered if it was real. As it goes, it starts ticking.
- 28:33When she was in crawling towards the When Hitch was crawling
- 28:37towards the cooler when she got kidnapped.
- 28:40Oh yeah. There's a few times, but yeah,
- 28:44all right, cool. I wasn't just me that heard
- 28:46that. Yeah, I heard it.
- 28:47I just wasn't sure if it was like in the soundtrack of the
- 28:50movie or if it was like diegetically heard like if it
- 28:54was. It only came from when they were
- 28:57in the van though the film. Could have been.
- 29:00That would have been. Whenever the whenever the camera
- 29:02was in the van. In there just the van just goes.
- 29:07Yeah. I thought.
- 29:09I thought that's what was going to happen when he was backing
- 29:11up. Oh yeah, just kamikaze into the
- 29:14truck. Oh.
- 29:17Or switched it. Maybe they were on a?
- 29:19Budget. I think a lot of these things
- 29:22are meant for you to not trust what you're seeing.
- 29:28Like they he brings it up early on that there's like
- 29:31hallucinations and hearing things and seeing things and the
- 29:38movies like shot in that way. Where it's.
- 29:42Somewhat trying to trick your eye.
- 29:45So I think little stuff like that, these like audio
- 29:49hallucinations, might be leaning into that.
- 29:54We got a bit of an unreliable narrator situation as well at
- 29:57times. At times, not the entire movie.
- 30:01I want to get more into the fucking damn ticking, but the
- 30:03ticking it was when Hitch was in the van, it played it and then
- 30:09when he broke into the van. He was also.
- 30:13Doing it. I mean, it's also whenever
- 30:15somebody gets close to the cooler, which they have a
- 30:19suspicion of what's in the cooler.
- 30:20And you it implied that what's in the cooler is probably the
- 30:24woman's head. Yes.
- 30:28So maybe that's like they were get like they're getting close
- 30:32to finding it, but they never really find it because he, the
- 30:37killer managed to sneak the head into the top section of the
- 30:42trailer. So it's not found until the very
- 30:45end when they're scrubbing down the trailer.
- 30:48I want to know what the inside of the trailer looks like
- 30:50because I've never there's not like a in those trailers.
- 30:54It's just a straight back. There's not like a anything in
- 30:58the in the ceiling. Well, it's a refrigeration
- 31:01truck. So there's probably some kind
- 31:03of, well, yeah, ducting, yeah. A reefer.
- 31:05Yeah, there's probably, yeah, if it's a reefer trailer.
- 31:07But usually a lot of that stuff's on the outside of the
- 31:09trailer anyway, so. But I don't know.
- 31:11This is also the fucking 80s. Maybe there was a compartment.
- 31:16Yeah. And Australia, so that I liked
- 31:18that. It was like, oh shit, there it
- 31:19is. Yeah, definitely worth a watch.
- 31:22Yeah, hopefully you already watched it and now you're back
- 31:26here listening to us yap about it.
- 31:31Yeah, I would love to, yeah. Yeah.
- 31:34I would love to know, like if anybody from the audience who
- 31:38was around when this movie hit theaters, I want to know what
- 31:41you thought about it back then because I this would have been a
- 31:44movie I would have loved to see in theaters.
- 31:47I would have had a really good time in theaters seeing this.
- 31:49I think like what the director said about it bombing, that it
- 31:53was pitched more of us as a slasher movie.
- 31:58It is not that it's definitely a slow burn, like it's only an
- 32:01hour and a half, but it is. It's a like I say, it's a slow
- 32:06burn you. Have to.
- 32:07And if you're going in there expecting like, oh, it's Jamie
- 32:11Lee Curtis in another slash movie, it's going to be like
- 32:13Halloween. No, it is not.
- 32:14No, no. It's way more of like a
- 32:17psychological mystery type suspense thriller.
- 32:25I sneezed. I'm so hard.
- 32:26It was, it was super good, actually.
- 32:31Makes you yeah. Makes you think the entire time.
- 32:35All of it being. Conducted.
- 32:36Such a good touch. Yeah.
- 32:40I'm I'm gonna give it a four out of five.
- 32:44I'm gonna give it a four out of five.
- 32:46I like this movie a lot. I like a lot of what the
- 32:49director did. I like, I like.
- 32:51I like what the cast was doing with the source material as
- 32:54well. The movie likes to subvert your
- 32:57attention to other places, kind of like a magician.
- 32:59It takes your eyes and kind of plays with your brain a little
- 33:02bit to make you look the opposite way.
- 33:04I like that a lot. Lots of use of cool camera
- 33:08angles. Again, I go back to like the
- 33:10Raimi angle and the Raimi run some of that in here.
- 33:13There is, like I said, just subversion of expectations.
- 33:17I, I, I, I like that and I like the acting in this movie a lot
- 33:22'cause it's hard to nail some of the shit they're doing.
- 33:24And they fucking did a great job here. 4 out of five.
- 33:27Great flick. Go watch this.
- 33:29Absolutely get some popcorn, go home, sit on your couch, put a
- 33:32blankie on by yourself, veg out. This is a great, this is a good
- 33:35time. This is sweet smoke a hog's leg
- 33:39too. What do you get with Alex?
- 33:45Almost had smoke a three out of five.
- 33:49I give this a three out of five. Yeah, three out of five. 3.5 out
- 33:52of five. OK.
- 33:53All right. I think that's my first half out
- 33:56of any of these. I think it is, yeah.
- 33:58I'm not sure. It's like I'm not feeling.
- 34:00Lazy. You know, if we were going to do
- 34:01half points, we could have just done out of 10.
- 34:05At first. I don't want to we get over 5.
- 34:08This was This was a. Whole it's too late now.
- 34:09And I don't want to do it again. It's a solid flick, super solid
- 34:14flick. Like Nick said, the some of the
- 34:17shooting, like very artsy, but also like, creepy.
- 34:22There's one scene specifically where like, he's like talking to
- 34:24himself and he's shifting. And every time he shifts the
- 34:28camera, like pants back just a little bit.
- 34:31Yeah, till it goes behind the curtain of the cab.
- 34:34I don't know. I just.
- 34:35Oh, that's nice. It is.
- 34:37It's really good. A lot of good camera stuff in
- 34:39this. They did a lot of, you know, the
- 34:43tracking shots where it's like the outside of the truck that
- 34:48definitely they had to use like filming cars and like cranes and
- 34:53and stuff like that. And they got the shots of the
- 34:56road where it's like up and down and up and down.
- 35:00Oh yeah. Really, really a lot, a lot of
- 35:02good stuff here. It's definitely earned that
- 35:05incredibly high score that it has on the the critic sites.
- 35:11Yeah, absolutely. No.
- 35:13Go watch this movie. We say go watch this movie.
- 35:17Absolutely I do. There might be, I, I there might
- 35:20be some things you don't like about it.
- 35:22I I didn't think it was a perfect movie movie by any
- 35:24means. It is a slow burn and there are
- 35:27times when it gets slow and you're like, get on with it.
- 35:30That's why it's not like a 5 out of five, cuz there's some get on
- 35:33with it shit in this movie you're like, come on.
- 35:35Or like replace the scene and reshoot.
- 35:38That was something different. Because I, I think you wanted to
- 35:41do something different here and you didn't have the budget or
- 35:43you didn't want to or you didn't have anything extra written
- 35:46here. Other than that, though, I loved
- 35:48it. Go watch this film.
- 35:50It is awesome. Good stuff.
- 35:53Noah. Oh yeah.
- 35:55Good pick I think. Well, starting off 2026 strong.
