- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way, hey?
- 0:28Everybody, good morning. Today we are in my laundry room.
- 0:32Believe it or not, we are standing in a laundry room and
- 0:35we are in the laundry room shooting today because we're
- 0:38talking about letting go of stuff.
- 0:41Now, I am a big purger. I've told everybody on here
- 0:44multiple times how great it is to get rid of things, clean out,
- 0:47have your space. But have you ever noticed there
- 0:49are certain times, certain things that we have a hard time
- 0:53letting go of And my laundry room has something in here like
- 0:57this and it's hand towels. So I use an abundance of hand
- 1:02towels in my life for wiping up counters, messes out on the farm
- 1:07that my bulldog, his face. If you see me walking around, I
- 1:11often have a hand towel sticking out in my back pocket because
- 1:16he's drooly and he also has that ability to sniff the ground.
- 1:20So he's always got dirt in his jowls and I don't want him in
- 1:22the house like that. So I will wipe his face.
- 1:26So I have a lot of hand towels, probably upwards of like 75
- 1:31little white square hand towels. Now I admittedly use them a lot
- 1:37so they wear out, but tell me why can't I get rid of them?
- 1:40Why do I keep them even when they have holes in them and I
- 1:43should clearly throw them away? So this past week I was at
- 1:47Costco and I go in and I buy a giant bag of 52 of these towels
- 1:53that are in the automotive section because they're super
- 1:56handy and very absorbent and they seem to take up water
- 2:01really well. A lot better than the fancy ones
- 2:03you buy, believe it or not. So I buy a new bag of them.
- 2:07I come home, I wash them and I'm like so excited because I use
- 2:11these in my kitchen every day. And they're like right at my
- 2:14kitchen counter. So I pull open the drawer and
- 2:16when we're cooking and it's messy, I can take them away and
- 2:20I see them all in there. And my first thought is, Oh
- 2:25well, I shouldn't put all the new ones in here.
- 2:27I should save some of the new ones so they stay nice looking
- 2:30and keep the ones that are already stained for when Mark is
- 2:35cooking something that's messy or got turmeric or something in
- 2:39it that's going to stay in the towel.
- 2:41And then I start laughing and I'm like, OK, we know the
- 2:44majority of these towels are like just worn out, Just get rid
- 2:49of them. Then I put them in the basket
- 2:52and I go over to the laundry room where I am now, and I see,
- 2:56OK, I've got all my dog towels piled up and all my resource
- 2:59towels for messes, cleaning, all of that.
- 3:03And I have this moment where I'm like, OK, well, I should really
- 3:08keep some of these. They're not all bad.
- 3:10And I had an intention when I bought 52 towels that I was
- 3:15going to swap towels out. I was going to get rid of most
- 3:19of the towels, if not all of the towels.
- 3:22Yet here we stand discussing towels.
- 3:24And it made me laugh because it started me thinking about how we
- 3:28have such conflicting things happen in our own lives.
- 3:30We have things that will take place and we'll be like, OK, you
- 3:34know what? I'm going to purge and I'll get
- 3:36rid of all kinds of stuff. And then all of a sudden we had
- 3:39these other times where we're like, OK, you know what?
- 3:41I don't, I don't want to get rid of this.
- 3:43I don't know why I don't want to get rid of it.
- 3:45Why do we hang on to certain things?
- 3:47And it comes back, at least in my mind, to two things.
- 3:50One, that it makes me comfortable.
- 3:52If it's jeans, I'm hanging on to them even if they have holes or
- 3:55whatnot because they're my cozy pants or a favorite shirt.
- 3:58But when it comes to resources around the house, I feel like
- 4:02it. For me, it's like I don't like
- 4:04to waste things. I don't.
- 4:06I don't like the concept of waste because I feel like
- 4:10something can always be repurposed, reused and put into
- 4:14better use rather than just throwing it away.
- 4:18I don't like to throw things away and the these towels sit
- 4:23here and represent this to me and it really put me in a
- 4:27position where I come back to, you know what two things.
- 4:31Can be true at the same time. Sometimes 3 or 4 things can be
- 4:35true at the same time, as we all know and I have to make.
- 4:38Choices based on the hierarchy. What's my real driving force
- 4:42right now? So.
- 4:44As I. Go through and sort this out.
- 4:45My real driving force is to clean up and make things
- 4:50organized and super neat so that it feels nice in the kitchen.
- 4:54It feels nice in areas, not that it's not that way all.
- 4:58The time, but the towels were just a piece.
- 5:01Of it and where? This shows up in our lives.
- 5:03Everywhere where we know we've got these little tiny pieces.
- 5:06We've got. You know our financial paperwork
- 5:09is a mess. We haven't handled all of our
- 5:11mail. Everything else might be great,
- 5:13but we've got these little areas of weakness and we have to
- 5:16decide what's more important, letting that weakness show up
- 5:20and take over, or is it more important to feel good?
- 5:23So today. I'm confessing right now I'm
- 5:26getting rid of all the old towels and I'm putting in all
- 5:28the new towels and I'm taking the old towels that are
- 5:32leftover. The ones that have holes, they
- 5:35are going away and into recycling and the ones that are
- 5:39not so nasty, the ones that we can use are going into the
- 5:43garage for farm stuff. And it's going to be that
- 5:46simple. And I organized it and I can
- 5:48live with that. But yes, I am going to get rid
- 5:50of some of them because they are bad and can't go anywhere.
- 5:53And I'm going to do that right now before I change my mind.
- 5:58And I'm going to say this is a lesson moving forward because it
- 6:02shows up elsewhere for me with seeds and other things.
- 6:05And, you know, I just have to go back to the old school way of
- 6:09organizing it in my head and saying this is more important
- 6:12than that. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:14you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:16Bye.
