- 0:00Speaker 1: How long did we know that the SEC may be
- 0:03Speaker 1: in big trouble in terms of the college football playoff?
- 0:05Speaker 1: A few days with Alabama losing and Ole misslosing that
- 0:12Speaker 1: that was a big, big part of it there, and
- 0:16Speaker 1: most of the projections seem to indicate that the SEC
- 0:21Speaker 1: will get to maybe three teams in to the College
- 0:25Speaker 1: Football Playoff. Obviously, the SEC champion, it's going to be
- 0:27Speaker 1: either Georgia or Texas or Texas A and M. If
- 0:33Speaker 1: Georgia wins the SEC title, they get in, and maybe
- 0:40Speaker 1: Texas gets in. If Texas A and M runs the
- 0:42Speaker 1: table and wins, then Texas could very well be left out. Obviously,
- 0:47Speaker 1: if Texas gets in, then maybe Georgia is the other
- 0:50Speaker 1: one get in then with outside shots, Tennessee still has
- 0:54Speaker 1: a chance, and even a real outside shot for South
- 0:58Speaker 1: Carolina even though they'd lost out Alabama, and Alabama of
- 1:03Speaker 1: course has looked at as being completely on the outs.
- 1:06Speaker 1: They're number thirteen right now. Even if they get into
- 1:08Speaker 1: the twelve slot, that would not be good enough to
- 1:11Speaker 1: get them into the playoff, even though it's top twelve
- 1:13Speaker 1: because you have to remember the conference champions. Now here's
- 1:16Speaker 1: where things get really fuzzy. Very interesting right now, as
- 1:22Speaker 1: was announced last night in the latest updated rankings, Oregon
- 1:25Speaker 1: is number one and then Ohio State is number two,
- 1:30Speaker 1: but of course they can't slot into two at this point.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Only one team from the Big Ten the champion, and
- 1:38Speaker 1: right now that projects to be Oregon, could go into that,
- 1:40Speaker 1: so Ohio State would fall to the five slot. That
- 1:43Speaker 1: would mean anything below ten would be in danger of
- 1:47Speaker 1: not getting in. Same thing. Also, because of the Big
- 1:49Speaker 1: Twelve conference, right now, you have Miami at the Texas
- 1:54Speaker 1: would then slot into the number two slot even though
- 1:57Speaker 1: they were ranked third in the rankings. Miami was rank six,
- 2:02Speaker 1: but they would go to number three in the rankings
- 2:04Speaker 1: as a conference champion. And then, according to these rankings,
- 2:09Speaker 1: Boise State, which would be eleven in the rankings but
- 2:13Speaker 1: would be higher rated than the Big Twelve conference champion
- 2:18Speaker 1: projected at this point, which they're projecting at this point
- 2:21Speaker 1: to be Arizona State.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Who may not even make the conference championship game.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Might not, might not. They have to win the Territorial Cup.
- 2:30Speaker 1: They have to beat Arizona and then they've got to
- 2:32Speaker 1: get held one way or another. It's it's setting up
- 2:37Speaker 1: to where it's probably and I do say the words
- 2:41Speaker 1: probably probably going to be Arizona State against Iowa State.
- 2:47Speaker 1: If Iowa State loses to Kansas State, Arizona State would
- 2:51Speaker 1: be locked in for sure. But if Iowa State wins,
- 2:56Speaker 1: then Arizona State's going to need another loss somewhere along
- 2:59Speaker 1: the line the other contenders because it's very jumbled right now.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But these standings right now, these little rankings have as
- 3:07Speaker 1: I mentioned, Oregon number one. That's the only thing that
- 3:11Speaker 1: really slots in truly out of the top four, because
- 3:15Speaker 1: the number two rank would be Ohio State. Again, they
- 3:17Speaker 1: would slot in as the number five because they'd be
- 3:20Speaker 1: the second Big ten team. Texas which was ranked third,
- 3:23Speaker 1: would slot in the number two. That's if the long
- 3:26Speaker 1: Warns go on and win the SEC championship, and right
- 3:29Speaker 1: now they're sitting on top of the standings, but they
- 3:32Speaker 1: still have to beat Texas A and M and they
- 3:33Speaker 1: still have to be Georgia to do that. The three
- 3:37Speaker 1: slot would be occupied by Miami even though they were
- 3:39Speaker 1: number six in the rankings, and then the four slot
- 3:46Speaker 1: to go to Boise State even though they were ranked
- 3:48Speaker 1: eleventh in the rankings. All right, so then after that
- 3:51Speaker 1: the five to twelve match, it will be Ohio State.
- 3:53Speaker 1: We mentioned Ohio State actually is ranked second, but would
- 3:57Speaker 1: have to slot in as the highest ranked team below
- 4:02Speaker 1: the four teams the conference champions who received first round bys,
- 4:06Speaker 1: So the higher state would be fifth. Right now, right now,
- 4:11Speaker 1: they got them slotted in to play Arizona State, who
- 4:15Speaker 1: is only sixteenth in the rankings, but they would be
- 4:18Speaker 1: the fifth highest rated conference champion and they would be
- 4:23Speaker 1: in the twelve spot. Then you go from there to
- 4:25Speaker 1: at largest. Penn State, which was fourth in the rankings,
- 4:29Speaker 1: would slot in at six and play Indiana. Yes, Indiana
- 4:32Speaker 1: still alive because of the carnage that happened in the SEC. Indiana,
- 4:37Speaker 1: ranked tenth in the rankings, would slot in at eleven,
- 4:40Speaker 1: so they're still safely inside that. The eight nine matchup
- 4:43Speaker 1: would be Georgia and Tennessee. Now, under this set of rankings,
- 4:48Speaker 1: that is projecting a Georgia team at number seven in
- 4:55Speaker 1: the rankings eight but if you follow that logic, Georgia
- 4:59Speaker 1: would have a third loss, would they still be at
- 5:02Speaker 1: number eight? Who knows? Same thing with Tennessee, although Tennessee
- 5:07Speaker 1: projects to beat Vanderbilty and then they would sit aside
- 5:09Speaker 1: because they're not playing in the SEC. Championship game, then
- 5:14Speaker 1: you have the interesting matchup. Notre Dame was fifth, but
- 5:17Speaker 1: because the Irish are not in a conference, they can't
- 5:21Speaker 1: go any higher than fifth anyway, and they would project
- 5:25Speaker 1: into the seventh slot, and according to these rankings, would
- 5:28Speaker 1: play SMU a ten seed. So here's the interesting thing
- 5:33Speaker 1: about this. You have two ACC teams in this Miami
- 5:37Speaker 1: and SMU. They're going to play for the conference championship
- 5:40Speaker 1: in all probability, assuming Miami handles Syracuse, SMU has already
- 5:43Speaker 1: clinched its spot. If those two teams wind up playing
- 5:48Speaker 1: in the a SEC Championship in Charlotte next weekend and
- 5:52Speaker 1: SMU wins that game, then you're almost looking at it
- 5:55Speaker 1: being a lock that Miami and SMU would both get
- 5:58Speaker 1: into the conference, will both get into the playoff, so
- 6:02Speaker 1: that would be two ACC. Then, as I mentioned, Arizona
- 6:07Speaker 1: State is holding onto the hopes of the Big twelve
- 6:09Speaker 1: Conference right now. We heard Chris climb and the head
- 6:12Speaker 1: coach of Kansas State just get all bunged up and
- 6:15Speaker 1: talk about how they've got to go to an eight
- 6:16Speaker 1: game conference schedule instead of nine because they're cannibalizing one another,
- 6:20Speaker 1: and so on and so forth right now. The team
- 6:26Speaker 1: that beat his team, Arizona State, is the only Big
- 6:29Speaker 1: twelve Conference school in the mix right now, and that
- 6:34Speaker 1: is being slotted in at number twelve as the sixteen
- 6:38Speaker 1: sixteenth rankedeen. But here's something else to consider. Keep an
- 6:43Speaker 1: eye on what happens tomorrow night between Tulane and Memphis,
- 6:50Speaker 1: see the only Thanksgiving college game being played tomorrow. If
- 6:53Speaker 1: Tulane wins that game, and there's some more cannibal eye
- 7:00Speaker 1: inside of the Big twelve Conference, yes it is possible.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Never mind Boise they handle their business, is a good
- 7:08Speaker 1: chance are in the top four. But what has been
- 7:12Speaker 1: theorized is that if Tulane then knocks off Memphis, there's
- 7:20Speaker 1: a decent chance if they win the American Conference championship
- 7:26Speaker 1: game against Army the next week, which would be a
- 7:28Speaker 1: quality win based on all of this sort of thing.
- 7:31Speaker 1: If it happened that way, and if there was another
- 7:34Speaker 1: mix up or two in the Big twelve, that you
- 7:38Speaker 1: could see two two Group of five teams, two G
- 7:43Speaker 1: five teams make the playoff Boise State and then in
- 7:49Speaker 1: addition to Boise the American Conference champion, if Tulane runs
- 7:53Speaker 1: the table, what would that do well? Depending on what
- 7:56Speaker 1: else happens. If everything else holds to four the way
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's projected right now, you would have Tennessee get in,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Georgia get in Texas or Texas A and M get
- 8:07Speaker 1: in SMU Notre Dame. All those scenarios are just laid out. Indiana,
- 8:12Speaker 1: Penn State. The teams with the bys, oh, they would
- 8:15Speaker 1: get in, but the twelve team would be too lane,
- 8:18Speaker 1: not Arizona State. Can you imagine that that the Big
- 8:23Speaker 1: Twelve conference would be completely shut out of the College
- 8:28Speaker 1: football playoff? Don't act like it's there's no shot.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Of it happening.
- 8:35Speaker 1: What I read on the Athletic and then I saw
- 8:37Speaker 1: a report at ESPN. I saw Heather Dinninshew, as we've
- 8:40Speaker 1: told you, really follows it very closely. She even theorized
- 8:43Speaker 1: that that there's a possibility that the Big Twelve could
- 8:48Speaker 1: get completely shut out if those dominoes fought. Look, none
- 8:52Speaker 1: of us expected Alabama to lose at Oklahoma, and Ole
- 8:55Speaker 1: Miss to lose at Florida, and Texas A and M
- 8:58Speaker 1: to lose at Auburn. We didn't expect all that to happen.
- 9:02Speaker 1: But one thing that we are used to seeing is
- 9:05Speaker 1: the carnage that happens during the final week or two
- 9:08Speaker 1: of the regular season and conference championship games in college football,
- 9:12Speaker 1: so there's no reason to think that it couldn't happen again.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And if you have some more of that, then yes,
- 9:18Speaker 1: you could see the Big Twelve if Arizona State gets
- 9:22Speaker 1: upset by Arizona and Iowa State should lose, and you
- 9:27Speaker 1: know Colorado lose. In other words, the best Big Twelve
- 9:29Speaker 1: conference team that can come out of there would be
- 9:32Speaker 1: one with two or three losses. Would be while you
- 9:35Speaker 1: weigh down at the bottom of the standings, they might
- 9:37Speaker 1: not be able to climb enough to get ahead of
- 9:40Speaker 1: a second G five team, and you could have two
- 9:45Speaker 1: G five teams get into the playoffs. Just some food
- 9:48Speaker 1: for though, A couple of basketball comments for you as
- 9:55Speaker 1: Texas men and women get ready for their next action.
- 9:58Speaker 1: For the long worn men, it'll be Friday night against
- 10:03Speaker 1: the Delaware State Hornets. Ken the Weaver was asked about
- 10:07Speaker 1: this whole thing about the team jelling because we've heard
- 10:10Speaker 1: Rodney Terry talk about ive heard the players talk about it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: You know, we have to continue to work to get
- 10:15Speaker 1: better and better into gel and somebody asked him, how
- 10:18Speaker 1: will you know when you have gelled as a team.
- 10:22Speaker 3: You know, I'm always always thinking a crash, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 3: be aggressive, just trying to get an extra possession for
- 10:27Speaker 3: my team. You know, every possession matters in games like
- 10:29Speaker 3: that or in every game. So just trying to be me,
- 10:33Speaker 3: you know, go out there and do my best.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Okay, all right, and then Arthur Kaluma was asked about
- 10:40Speaker 1: the importance of being able to close out Syracuse and
- 10:43Speaker 1: Saint Joe's to win both of those games to help
- 10:46Speaker 1: continue the momentum that has carried the team to five
- 10:49Speaker 1: consecutive wins, and how important was to be able to
- 10:53Speaker 1: close out those games.
- 10:54Speaker 2: You know, we played, we had to grind out two
- 10:56Speaker 2: pretty hard games in Brooklyn. The main thing that we
- 10:59Speaker 2: would have to do is just make sure our defense travels.
- 11:02Speaker 2: If our defense travels, our offenses come. We're super talented
- 11:05Speaker 2: on the offensive event, we just got to make sure
- 11:07Speaker 2: that we're locktant on the defensive end.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Arthur Glomers sounds like a coach the way he's talking
- 11:12Speaker 1: about that. All Right, we're gonna hear some more basketball.
- 11:14Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Vick Schaeffer as well when we
- 11:17Speaker 1: continue here on Sports Radio. Am thirteen under the zone
- 11:19Speaker 1: of the Irradio app
