- 0:03Speaker 1: Day two in Alabama at the Pro. Look we've leveled up.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Look behind you, I can't I can't turn my head. Okay,
- 0:10Speaker 2: well that's true. Behind AJ is the Pro. It's a
- 0:14Speaker 2: really nice sign. It's large, very instagram friendly. Get your
- 0:19Speaker 2: a's requests.
- 0:21Speaker 3: You need to move that way a little bit though.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Okay, that's fine, you got it, director, So we'll have
- 0:25Speaker 1: some chats with some former ball players. You want to
- 0:27Speaker 1: move my computer, yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 4: If you're gluten free, waters knock my mic off. But see,
- 0:33Speaker 4: that's why I don't want to turn my head.
- 0:35Speaker 1: That's how we start a show. Krat's good to see you.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We miss you. It's it's actually not as hot as
- 0:40Speaker 1: some people warned us about.
- 0:42Speaker 5: That, isn't that. I'm fine at home. I don't want to.
- 0:45Speaker 5: I don't want to hang out on the golf course
- 0:47Speaker 5: with a bunch of ex celebrity professional athletes and AJ.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You got too much sun in the last few weeks.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You were down the shore, down the shore for two weeks.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So we're just giving you a break inside and the
- 0:59Speaker 1: air conditioning real quick before we start, because we're not
- 1:02Speaker 1: gonna have time for this. But maybe we'll get him
- 1:04Speaker 1: on next week. You know who player of the Week
- 1:06Speaker 1: was in the American.
- 1:07Speaker 3: League, Kyraw.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Actually, no, we're gonna talk about him later. Then he
- 1:12Speaker 1: passed Quentinosa last week.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I'll see him on Saturday, so I'll make sure that
- 1:17Speaker 3: he comes on.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah, te him. We said hellout last week. Six homers
- 1:19Speaker 1: in seven games. That's good.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 1: There's apparently a whole storyline with pass Quentino rumored. I
- 1:26Speaker 1: haven't maybe there's articles about it. I haven't heard him
- 1:29Speaker 1: on the record speak specifically to this, but we'll ask
- 1:31Speaker 1: him about it. Where he was working on his swing
- 1:34Speaker 1: speed and then his swing was getting a little his
- 1:37Speaker 1: timing was off because he was too early. Then he
- 1:40Speaker 1: tried to slow the swing speed down and then that worked.
- 1:43Speaker 4: But past Quentino, he's always been able to hit right
- 1:46Speaker 4: ever since he was probably so he never had a
- 1:48Speaker 4: prop that speed. So why are we now telling a
- 1:52Speaker 4: guy he needs to swing faster when he's hitting the ball.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Fine, he was.
- 1:55Speaker 4: I don't know how many homers he hit last year,
- 1:56Speaker 4: but it was a fairly decent amount of homers he
- 1:59Speaker 4: hit last year. Was in it at least in the twenties,
- 2:01Speaker 4: wasn't it.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I believe so. Plus the Ribbies I mean the overall
- 2:05Speaker 1: numbers were I don't know what This year is great.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I mean, now he's back on track. Is seven ninety
- 2:10Speaker 1: eight ops, one twenty ops plus last year was one fourteen.
- 2:13Speaker 1: So this is a jump up, jump up from last week,
- 2:17Speaker 1: last year nineteen twenty eight.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Yeah, he's doing fine.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Twenty eight homers. But he did nothing for a couple months,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and then he's been one of the best hitters in
- 2:26Speaker 1: baseball for the last couple months.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Stick with what you're doing, kid, Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It's working. So we'll try and get him pretty soon.
- 2:32Speaker 1: But let's talk about the other team in the state
- 2:35Speaker 1: of Missouri charge time. All right, guys, I'm gonna let
- 2:42Speaker 1: you run with this. We're talking about a catcher and
- 2:44Speaker 1: Wilson Contreras who lost his cool, got kicked out of
- 2:47Speaker 1: the ball game last night and ended up getting so
- 2:51Speaker 1: heated that he tossed his bat or chucked it, depending
- 2:54Speaker 1: on how you look at things. Towards the ump, ended
- 2:57Speaker 1: up hitting his hitting coach Brent Brown. He's like, I
- 3:00Speaker 1: want you to hit, not that way. And then he
- 3:03Speaker 1: also went into the dugout tossed the gum.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I was not gonna tight you. There's a major difference whatever. Anyway,
- 3:09Speaker 4: it's not whatever, that's a huge difference.
- 3:10Speaker 1: My main question is is he okay? Because this is
- 3:13Speaker 1: a freak out that looked like he was possessed and
- 3:15Speaker 1: he's gonna get some trouble here.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Here's my question. The pitch was a strike. First of all,
- 3:20Speaker 4: Let's let's just say it wasn't even really borderline. It
- 3:22Speaker 4: was a pretty solid strike. And what Wilson said was
- 3:25Speaker 4: I said, you need to call it both ways. For us,
- 3:28Speaker 4: he had to have said more than that, I'm sorry,
- 3:30Speaker 4: like that, that's not an auto toss there, and he's
- 3:33Speaker 4: not a catcher anymore so once he he's fighting for
- 3:34Speaker 4: his pictures, which I like. But man, but then the
- 3:37Speaker 4: question Cratsy is why is he throwing the bat at all? Like,
- 3:40Speaker 4: even if he's throwing it at the umpire and Brent
- 3:41Speaker 4: Brown's face got in the way of it, why are
- 3:44Speaker 4: we throwing the bat at all?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Like?
- 3:45Speaker 4: What has there ever been a point where you're like,
- 3:47Speaker 4: I'm gonna chuck my bat at the umpire? Like, unless
- 3:50Speaker 4: you're Delman Young, right, I don't remember anybody ever throwing
- 3:52Speaker 4: their bat at an umpire.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Just a new trend? Is this a new trend?
- 3:56Speaker 4: Though with Roblade throwing his bat at the picture. Now
- 3:59Speaker 4: Control's thone it at the umpire.
- 4:01Speaker 5: It like many trends. I would like that to stop,
- 4:04Speaker 5: if it's a trend. Delman Young threw it at the umpire.
- 4:07Speaker 5: He was a replacement umpire. Doesn't mean he should have
- 4:10Speaker 5: done it, but no, I've never wanted to throw my
- 4:13Speaker 5: bat at somebody. I've you know, I've seen the take
- 4:18Speaker 5: your your jersey off on the field, lay your bat
- 4:21Speaker 5: down at the plate and be like, well, hey you
- 4:24Speaker 5: you swing. You know you're taking the bat out of
- 4:26Speaker 5: my hands kind of thing. But he freaked out. Sometimes
- 4:30Speaker 5: I wonder like, oh, you know, wait till you get
- 4:33Speaker 5: in my way kind of thing. I'm glad Ali Marmle
- 4:36Speaker 5: held him back there. I don't know what he would
- 4:38Speaker 5: have done. I would have loved have known what the
- 4:39Speaker 5: umpire said, but we'll never know.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, but here's the thing. Will Macntreres, when he gets
- 4:46Speaker 1: into issues, will lay out what happened afterward Home played
- 4:49Speaker 1: umpire Derek Thomas was going back and forth with him
- 4:53Speaker 1: a little bit, so I'm like, oh, maybe he said
- 4:55Speaker 1: something that really got him, like something personal from what
- 4:58Speaker 1: I saw from postgame quotes, nothing there. Wilson would tell
- 5:02Speaker 1: you if he said something that was completely out of
- 5:04Speaker 1: line or a personal attack. It seemed like he just
- 5:08Speaker 1: was pissed at a called strike. That was a called strike.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It was a strike, and then was pissed that he
- 5:14Speaker 1: got tossed from the game. I'm like, Okay, you can't
- 5:17Speaker 1: do that.
- 5:17Speaker 3: No, you can't, you can't.
- 5:20Speaker 4: You can't go that postal like you're going postal on
- 5:24Speaker 4: a pitch that was a good pitch.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, I guess this is.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I mean, but listen, Wilson Contrerez has been a good player,
- 5:31Speaker 4: but there's been moments like this, right Kratz where he's
- 5:33Speaker 4: kind of just lost. We've all lost our cool as
- 5:35Speaker 4: players before, but man, this one was just this was
- 5:38Speaker 4: And then I want to know what Bran Brown said,
- 5:41Speaker 4: because he's the one that took the back to the face.
- 5:43Speaker 1: What was your intent there? You went? I mean, when
- 5:46Speaker 1: he threw it like this, yeah, but still like it
- 5:47Speaker 1: wasn't like it doesn't like a little toss in the air.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Still threw it back toward And if you watch the replay,
- 5:53Speaker 4: Bran Brown is here and the umpire's behind him, so
- 5:55Speaker 4: he was throwing it at the umpire.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Yes, he's gonna get a lengthy one for this one.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Brown's not in the way, Kratz, And we're showing it
- 6:02Speaker 1: again right now. If you're listening to the pot obviously
- 6:04Speaker 1: you should check this out. Kratz. What if Bran Brown
- 6:08Speaker 1: is not in the way and that thing hits the
- 6:09Speaker 1: yump even if it's lightly hitting him in the chest
- 6:12Speaker 1: or the face. I mean, you threw a bat at
- 6:14Speaker 1: an umpire? Is that not twenty thirty game suspension?
- 6:19Speaker 5: I mean, well, then, why is Victor Roblace only ten?
- 6:23Speaker 5: Why is Victor ro Blake pitcher? Umpires are umpires are
- 6:27Speaker 5: better than pictures, and Victor Roblace has had some serious intent.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Wilson's was it wasn't. It wasn't like a crazy toss
- 6:36Speaker 5: at the at the umpire. But so it's a different standard, Yes.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Different standards. Yes, Yes, I don't know if you're saying
- 6:48Speaker 1: it to us.
- 6:48Speaker 4: I'm saying it to both. It's a different standard because
- 6:50Speaker 4: they put umpires. No, I did have to say yes
- 6:53Speaker 4: on the phone call. And also I say yes to
- 6:55Speaker 4: the fact that, yes, there is a different standard because
- 6:57Speaker 4: MLB wants the umpires to be held at a different
- 7:00Speaker 4: level than something else. They need to be respected, and
- 7:02Speaker 4: that's what MLB does. But my question is I saw
- 7:05Speaker 4: Victor Robos playing. He must be appealing his ten games suspension.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, I know, I know.
- 7:11Speaker 4: What are they gonna be like, Hey, you didn't really
- 7:13Speaker 4: mean to throw it that hard at the picture, so
- 7:14Speaker 4: you're only gonna get nine games.
- 7:16Speaker 5: It might be eight, he might get eight.
- 7:18Speaker 4: You know how the the MLB should have gone like
- 7:21Speaker 4: twenty and then said, oh you're worse are You'll get ten?
- 7:24Speaker 3: Right?
- 7:24Speaker 4: Because if they knock it down, that's a dangerous precedent
- 7:27Speaker 4: to stuff for throwing a back dude to be like
- 7:29Speaker 4: I need a ten day break. I'll chuck my bat
- 7:32Speaker 4: for pay for ten days on my hamm. He's a
- 7:34Speaker 4: little sore. I don't know.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Delman Young threw a bat he got fifty and got
- 7:39Speaker 1: fifty games in the minor leagues. I'm pulling up the
- 7:41Speaker 1: clip right now. I mean, at some point we can
- 7:43Speaker 1: show it Toty Miller catching too fifty games. Yeah, I
- 7:49Speaker 1: didn't hear anything or we didn't see anything with bat
- 7:52Speaker 1: chucking for a long time.
- 7:53Speaker 4: And was the last guy I can remember that through
- 7:55Speaker 4: his bat at somebody remember after the whole Donaldson thing.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Well, he kind of brute tossed it towards third, right, Yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and that what it was.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Yeah, he tried to throw the picture because they were
- 8:06Speaker 5: they were throwing at him, and I think he just
- 8:09Speaker 5: held onto it too long. But that'd be a that'd
- 8:11Speaker 5: be a many question.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Okay, So how many games if your commissioner and.
- 8:17Speaker 3: He's got to get at least ten?
- 8:18Speaker 1: This is what the commissioner role was really made for.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Back in the day. They were like, we need to
- 8:23Speaker 1: settle things like this. It wasn't always you know, the
- 8:25Speaker 1: boss and the minion for the owners. It was hey,
- 8:29Speaker 1: let's make sure that this game is played correctly and
- 8:31Speaker 1: that major issues don't occur, and one person is able
- 8:35Speaker 1: to make a decision like this that knows the game.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Really well, what should the commissioner do.
- 8:39Speaker 4: It's got to be ten. At least, it's got to
- 8:41Speaker 4: be ten. You just set the precedent for throwing about
- 8:43Speaker 4: at ten. This has got to be tenka, right, it
- 8:46Speaker 4: got at least you know I'm saying it's yeah, well,
- 8:50Speaker 4: at least that that was a given part of.
- 8:51Speaker 1: They usually protect the yumps. I actually think they protect
- 8:54Speaker 1: them more than the players. Yes, that is a different story.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But you know, Kratz, if he was pissed at the
- 8:59Speaker 1: picture and when I after him and got into a fight,
- 9:01Speaker 1: it's different from if he's going after the ump trying
- 9:03Speaker 1: to make physical contact.
- 9:07Speaker 5: I agree, but they're kind of putting that in the
- 9:10Speaker 5: realm of it's in the game throwing a bat Victor
- 9:13Speaker 5: ro Blas, Throwing a bat at a pitcher, to me,
- 9:15Speaker 5: is the same as throwing a bat at an umpire.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Like Victor ro Blas was more malicious. I think they're
- 9:21Speaker 5: gonna get the same I think he'll get ten games,
- 9:23Speaker 5: but I think the malicious intent of roe Blase was
- 9:27Speaker 5: was definitely there.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Okay, and you know, the season's done for the Cardinals
- 9:33Speaker 1: and all that.
- 9:34Speaker 4: For the most part, the smallest, smallest crowd they've ever had. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 4: a new Bush last night under twenty thousand, first time ever.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Seventeen thousand paid, which means it was less than that.
- 9:43Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Don't worry. In five years they'll have the next version
- 9:47Speaker 1: of Roman Anthony. Who else, what do you mean him
- 9:52Speaker 1: Bloom's taking over?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Brssela Meyer, Christian Campbell, Christian Campbell.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I mean the who take three, Jared Rant.
- 9:59Speaker 1: They'll take a few.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yeah, who else today? Who else?
- 10:02Speaker 5: To day?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Wong Connor Wong. He was part of the.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Sedanel will your Brave?
- 10:18Speaker 1: There you go. We will talk to Ken Rosenthal coming
- 10:23Speaker 1: up in a moment and get to a bunch of
- 10:25Speaker 1: topics with Ken. There's more drama to cover later on.
- 10:29Speaker 1: There's a story from the weekend. We didn't have time
- 10:30Speaker 1: for yesterday, but I want to get to it. It's
- 10:32Speaker 1: the Royce Lewis explanation on what's gone wrong with his season,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and it's certainly gaining some headlines and some traction krats.
- 10:44Speaker 1: If you need to pay rent for your apartment and

- 11:41Speaker 1: after it.
- 11:44Speaker 3: For next year.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Hey, we're back on let's read this tweek. Ron Washington
- 11:49Speaker 1: said it was a quadruple bypass. That's why he's out
- 11:52Speaker 1: for the rest of the season. We learned that a
- 11:54Speaker 1: couple months ago. But he'll be fully medically cleared in December,
- 11:57Speaker 1: and he wants to keep managing. So he said he's
- 12:00Speaker 1: eating healthier and he quit smoking.
- 12:02Speaker 5: No way.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Was what's hard?
- 12:05Speaker 3: What is wash gonna do all game?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Chew gum?
- 12:09Speaker 4: I guess I don't know. I love washed, Wash get better.
- 12:11Speaker 4: The game is better when you're involved in it.
- 12:13Speaker 3: That's it.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Where are the angel is going to be? Though? It crats?
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, that's the factor too, same place, but like
- 12:20Speaker 1: they're moving, is moving invited back?
- 12:23Speaker 3: He was on a two year contract, so his contracts up.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think his contracts up, and I mean paramination. I
- 12:29Speaker 1: think does a nice job given the circumstances. But really
- 12:32Speaker 1: then he doesn't do a nice job because the team's
- 12:35Speaker 1: not good. So I know it's not his his decision
- 12:38Speaker 1: on a lot of things, but that doesn't mean that
- 12:40Speaker 1: the owner won't say and start again. Well, I love wash,
- 12:46Speaker 1: we're thinking about him. I'm just in all seriousness, I'm
- 12:48Speaker 1: I guess he's definitely gonna be managing the Angels. Prediction crats.
- 12:54Speaker 4: They'll use the yes well if he's not under contract,
- 12:58Speaker 4: they'll use the health excuse. And who's the manager now.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Ray Montgomery? I don't think. I don't think them either,
- 13:05Speaker 1: But fuck fuck.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Okay, they're gonna get one more scoff with this young core. Okay,
- 13:15Speaker 5: that's what he said.
- 13:16Speaker 1: That's what he said. Did you guys see this Royce
- 13:21Speaker 1: Lewis story from the weekend. I wanted to make sure
- 13:23Speaker 1: we had time for this. So Royce Lewis has really
- 13:26Speaker 1: struggled Since August first of last year. He's been one
- 13:30Speaker 1: of the worst hitters in baseball.
- 13:32Speaker 3: But he doesn't go into slumps.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I remember he said that, Remember that one of the worst
- 13:37Speaker 4: I don't remember he said that.
- 13:38Speaker 1: It was a confident quote. It was a really nice kid.
- 13:41Speaker 4: This is why baseball players are really good at complaining
- 13:44Speaker 4: and not saying a lot of stuff, because they don't
- 13:46Speaker 4: want when they're going good to go away, and then
- 13:48Speaker 4: they know as soon as anything goes wrong, then people
- 13:51Speaker 4: bring up quotes from the past. So I had no
- 13:53Speaker 4: problem with him saying it. I love the confidence, but
- 13:55Speaker 4: at the same time, now shows like you Scott, people
- 13:58Speaker 4: like you were gonna bring it up.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Now I didn't bring that up. You brought that up.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I'm bringing up to fresh stuff.
- 14:02Speaker 3: You have to tape.
- 14:03Speaker 1: It's worth listening to. It's He said he feels like
- 14:06Speaker 1: he's kind of on an island and trying to figure
- 14:08Speaker 1: things out on his own right now. He hasn't felt
- 14:10Speaker 1: comfortable all year, and then gets into stats and how
- 14:14Speaker 1: changing things could affect arbitration. He said, it's also hard
- 14:18Speaker 1: to make a full in season adjustment because you can
- 14:20Speaker 1: try that in those thirty games or at bats of
- 14:23Speaker 1: trial go towards your stats. Do you really want to
- 14:25Speaker 1: sacrifice that and if it doesn't work, then you go
- 14:27Speaker 1: back to what you were doing before. It's always hard.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I know Michael Harris just did a significant change. Being
- 14:32Speaker 1: under contract probably helps because he knows what he's making
- 14:35Speaker 1: that year and the year after. For someone like me,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I'm fighting to take care of myself and my family.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I don't want to put any of those stats in jeopardy.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm trying to do what's best as fast as possible,
- 14:44Speaker 1: but feeling like I've been on an island, it's kind
- 14:46Speaker 1: of tough. Also, I just want to note that it's
- 14:48Speaker 1: not like he's done nothing. He has been working with
- 14:51Speaker 1: the crew on slowing down his hands, adding length back
- 14:54Speaker 1: to his swing, which is actually a combo we had
- 14:56Speaker 1: earlier in the show. But take all of that and
- 14:59Speaker 1: tell me how we should perceive it and how teammates
- 15:02Speaker 1: and even media are perceiving what he said.
- 15:05Speaker 4: He's being honest and we want people that are honest,
- 15:07Speaker 4: and he's being honest because this is what remember I
- 15:09Speaker 4: talked about this last week.
- 15:10Speaker 3: This is how.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Players are looking at a Players that are more statistical driven,
- 15:14Speaker 4: whether it's through their agents or through being just smarter
- 15:17Speaker 4: about baseball, and they know more about this and we've
- 15:20Speaker 4: learned more about arbitration and what teams look for and
- 15:22Speaker 4: what they want and how you make money. And so
- 15:25Speaker 4: he's saying, I'm not willing to give up those thirty
- 15:27Speaker 4: at bats because it might cost me down the road.
- 15:30Speaker 4: It's a bad look, but I can't fault them. I
- 15:33Speaker 4: can't fault him for saying this.
- 15:34Speaker 3: He's being honest. We want everyone to be honest. He's
- 15:36Speaker 3: being honest.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It's a weird look because we've never really heard anybody
- 15:39Speaker 4: say it like this before. So I think that's why
- 15:41Speaker 4: people are saying, whoa, whoa, whoa. What's he saying. But
- 15:45Speaker 4: at the same time, if those thirty at bats help
- 15:48Speaker 4: you for the next five years of your career, those
- 15:50Speaker 4: thirty of bats are worth it. So it's just it's
- 15:53Speaker 4: a strange thing because you've never heard anybody.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Say it like this.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Is he wrong?
- 15:58Speaker 3: I said, he's not wrong.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I'm agreeing with you, like he's he's not wrong.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Like this is something that every player has to deal with.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Nobody ever says, hey, you know what you need to
- 16:13Speaker 5: make an out so that the you know, so that
- 16:17Speaker 5: you can get better. No, during the times that you're
- 16:19Speaker 5: making changes, there is a learning curve. Sometimes you make
- 16:23Speaker 5: a change, and it's usually a change is that stick
- 16:25Speaker 5: and you get it bang right away. Sometimes you don't,
- 16:30Speaker 5: and he probably, I'm going to go ahead and guess
- 16:35Speaker 5: never until about a year and a half ago, had
- 16:37Speaker 5: gone through a slump. That's why you say things like
- 16:40Speaker 5: you said, he's never gone through struggles. You never hit.
- 16:43Speaker 5: A time to struggle at the big leies is a
- 16:45Speaker 5: tough time to do it. The part for me where
- 16:48Speaker 5: he added in like, well, a guy like Michael Harris
- 16:51Speaker 5: he has he has stability, He has the ability to
- 16:55Speaker 5: make changes part way through a season because you know,
- 17:00Speaker 5: his contract isn't in limbo. That's the reality. That's ninety
- 17:05Speaker 5: five percent of people in big league baseball. You do
- 17:08Speaker 5: not get a guaranteed contract like Michael Harris at the time.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Michael Harris got it when you're still learning to play
- 17:15Speaker 5: in the big leagues. Michael Harris made the change. He
- 17:19Speaker 5: knows he's not a finished product. He wanted to do better.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Everybody goes through this. So for him to be like, well,
- 17:25Speaker 5: you know, maybe it was a shot at the Twins
- 17:28Speaker 5: organization for not extending him. Maybe it was frustration from
- 17:32Speaker 5: him he's not doing well, so those numbers he's taking
- 17:36Speaker 5: to arbitration aren't going to be that great because one
- 17:38Speaker 5: of the biggest numbers in arbitration is staying on the
- 17:41Speaker 5: field and he hasn't been able to do that. And
- 17:43Speaker 5: when he does do it, I think his numbers are
- 17:45Speaker 5: going to go up and he's going to start to
- 17:47Speaker 5: hit more home runs and RBIs and all the good things.
- 17:51Speaker 1: There are two hundred and two hitters with at least
- 17:52Speaker 1: four hundred and fifty played appearance since its late appearances
- 17:55Speaker 1: since August first of last year. Royce Lewis ranks one
- 17:58Speaker 1: to eighty ninth and average eighty fifth in ops, so
- 18:01Speaker 1: he's towards the bottom of Aaron Gleeman was very critical.
- 18:06Speaker 1: He's been on our show frequently covering the twins. He said,
- 18:09Speaker 1: here's the thing, it was hasn't worked at all, So
- 18:11Speaker 1: he said, got some can't blame him for looking out
- 18:13Speaker 1: for himself. Replies to this, which isn't surprising.
- 18:18Speaker 4: No, but it worked before that for him. Yeah, he remember,
- 18:22Speaker 4: he was like the best. Yeah, this guy just get
- 18:24Speaker 4: on the field. He's like the best player in the game.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But this is why sometimes fans and our show will
- 18:28Speaker 1: be like, oh, lock him up. That's an extension guy,
- 18:30Speaker 1: though I don't remember us saying it's specifically about him
- 18:33Speaker 1: because of the injuries and the twins, and many teams
- 18:36Speaker 1: would have a reply of wait and see, you're allowed
- 18:40Speaker 1: to do that. You have a player under team control
- 18:42Speaker 1: for six seven years. Yes, you're you have the right
- 18:46Speaker 1: as a team part of the collective bargaining agreement to
- 18:50Speaker 1: let a player go year to year and make sure
- 18:52Speaker 1: that he is worthy of a long term deals. Like
- 18:55Speaker 1: krat said, most guys don't get the extension, and it
- 18:57Speaker 1: doesn't extension.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Very few guys that get an extension.
- 19:01Speaker 4: That's why when they're guys are extended like a basaioh,
- 19:04Speaker 4: like a Roman Anthony, like a Christian Campbell. That's why
- 19:07Speaker 4: we talk about it so much, because it doesn't happen
- 19:09Speaker 4: for everybody.
- 19:10Speaker 1: They do risk analysis. Also a lot of this factors
- 19:12Speaker 1: on age. Why, because the younger you are in free agency,
- 19:16Speaker 1: the more you get paid. It is that simple. They
- 19:18Speaker 1: work very strictly every front office on an agent curve Kratz.
- 19:22Speaker 1: So it's a very different conversation when you're talking about
- 19:24Speaker 1: Roman Anthony or Samuel Bissio versus Royce Lewis who. I
- 19:27Speaker 1: don't remember what his rookie season was, but it was
- 19:29Speaker 1: probably twenty three or something like that. And even that
- 19:32Speaker 1: little difference of two years makes a huge difference in
- 19:34Speaker 1: free agency, makes.
- 19:37Speaker 5: A huge difference. Is twenty twenty two he was twenty
- 19:41Speaker 5: three years old, It makes a huge difference. Everybody wants
- 19:45Speaker 5: an extension when I was thirty six. I wanted an
- 19:47Speaker 5: extension when I was thirty Like, everybody wants that stability,
- 19:51Speaker 5: but you have to be able to play through that
- 19:54Speaker 5: instability of I don't know if I'm going to stay
- 19:56Speaker 5: in the big leagues or I don't know if this
- 19:58Speaker 5: swing change is going to make me an All star
- 20:01Speaker 5: or just kind of a average player in the big leagues.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Those are decisions you have to make as a player,
- 20:06Speaker 5: and that can be the selfish part of the game.
- 20:09Speaker 5: It's a team game played by individuals.
- 20:14Speaker 1: How would teams or teammates take this? Do they care?
- 20:17Speaker 3: Not really.
- 20:19Speaker 4: There'll be a guy or two that'll say something, But
- 20:21Speaker 4: other than that, not really, because guys know that he's right.
- 20:24Speaker 3: On a level, there's guys that know.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Again, it goes back to what I said last week
- 20:28Speaker 4: when I said, guys don't want to do this or
- 20:30Speaker 4: that because they know, because guys are more educated now
- 20:33Speaker 4: is what to get some paid. And they were raised
- 20:35Speaker 4: on this, They were raised on analytics. They were raised
- 20:38Speaker 4: on these things. And agents are in their ear all
- 20:40Speaker 4: the time saying, hey, you got to do this better.
- 20:42Speaker 4: How many times have I mean, I think it was
- 20:44Speaker 4: Francisco Lindor or somebody. I don't know if it was him,
- 20:46Speaker 4: so I could be wrong here that said I need
- 20:48Speaker 4: to improve my defense or no, it's Korea, Korea, remember
- 20:51Speaker 4: the one years like, oh, I need to reprove my
- 20:53Speaker 4: range factors so I can make more money. So you
- 20:55Speaker 4: just went out and tried to improve his range defensively
- 20:58Speaker 4: because that was the way he was told he'd make
- 20:59Speaker 4: more money.
- 21:00Speaker 1: A lot of guys have actually done that. Outfielders, guys
- 21:03Speaker 1: know this stuff decade now. Have moved back because the
- 21:06Speaker 1: defensive metrics were favoring you if you moved back right,
- 21:10Speaker 1: telling you to cover more guys behind.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Guys now know the answers to the to the puzzle.
- 21:15Speaker 4: The puzzle is now kind of solvable, right, It's like
- 21:18Speaker 4: the rivers cub the guys can go. It's kind of
- 21:20Speaker 4: solvable now because there's so many years of data that
- 21:24Speaker 4: they can say, all right, if you do this, if
- 21:25Speaker 4: you do this, it gets you paid more.
- 21:26Speaker 3: And guys now know that.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Agents now know that, so they tell their guys, hey,
- 21:30Speaker 4: this offseason, you're going into your first RB er. If
- 21:32Speaker 4: you really do this and improve this, you'll make a
- 21:34Speaker 4: million or two. More guys are like, okay, I gotta
- 21:36Speaker 4: do that right, oh, because listen, I know this. I
- 21:39Speaker 4: had hitting coaches come up to me and say, all right,
- 21:43Speaker 4: we're gonna give up in a bad or two or
- 21:45Speaker 4: three because I need you to do this. If you
- 21:48Speaker 4: take it at bad and you say I'm gonna hit
- 21:49Speaker 4: a ground ball to short. As a left handed hitter,
- 21:51Speaker 4: that means I'm inside the ball on top hit a
- 21:54Speaker 4: ground ball to short. Now, sometimes you'd actually get a hit.
- 21:56Speaker 4: You'd hit like a missile somewhere because you're just thinking
- 21:59Speaker 4: about like all right, get in out of it, hit
- 22:00Speaker 4: down on it, boom, stay through it. And then and
- 22:03Speaker 4: then it was like oh it clicks again, and you're
- 22:05Speaker 4: like oho, everyone has a key, right, So whatever that
- 22:08Speaker 4: key is for Royce Lewis, maybe he hasn't found it
- 22:10Speaker 4: for a while, so he's searching, but he also doesn't
- 22:12Speaker 4: want to give up. But it could be one at
- 22:13Speaker 4: back cratch, you know, it could be one at beat.
- 22:15Speaker 4: It didn't have to be thirty at bats. Someone could
- 22:17Speaker 4: tell you something. And I used to tell the hitting
- 22:19Speaker 4: coaches all the time, just tell me something, dude. If
- 22:21Speaker 4: I'm struggling, just make some up because it gets my
- 22:24Speaker 4: mind thinking about something else and what I was thinking about. Oh,
- 22:26Speaker 4: you're pulling your head stepping in the bucket, and then
- 22:29Speaker 4: I'm thinking about my feet instead of my swing and.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Boom, oh wow, look at that work. You're a genius coach.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Yep. Hitting coaches are flot or psychologists. That's it. They're
- 22:39Speaker 5: they're getting you to be in a right mindset so
- 22:44Speaker 5: that when you do get a hit. Ooh, that's what worked.
- 22:47Speaker 5: Everybody's story is different. Obviously I have more minor league
- 22:50Speaker 5: stories than AJ does, but he struggled with the same
- 22:53Speaker 5: things in the big leagues. Oh, I got to do
- 22:56Speaker 5: this to try to keep from pulling off. In two thousand,
- 23:00Speaker 5: I won Player of the Month for the league in April.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Now it's freaking freezing in New Hampshire. You're in Double A.
- 23:06Speaker 5: You're like, whoa, I'm twenty four years old. This is awesome.
- 23:10Speaker 5: Double A only one step away from the big leagues.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Triple A is the only thing I'm coming for. And
- 23:15Speaker 5: the hitting coach told me, congratulations, if you want to
- 23:19Speaker 5: hit in the big leagues, it'll never work. And I
- 23:22Speaker 5: was like, what will never work? It's like you're swinging,
- 23:24Speaker 5: it'll never work. And I'm like, okay, fine, and I
- 23:29Speaker 5: listened to him. I ended up hitting two h five
- 23:31Speaker 5: that year in Double A, and I was like, crap,
- 23:35Speaker 5: I shouldn't have listened. But it was a learning moment
- 23:37Speaker 5: for me. It was learning in the sense that I
- 23:40Speaker 5: have to do what I have to do to be
- 23:42Speaker 5: able to have success. And that can sound selfish or
- 23:46Speaker 5: because the fact that I ended up playing Chiles forty
- 23:49Speaker 5: maybe it was the smart thing to do.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 23:52Speaker 4: It's your career, though, it's every player. This is the
- 23:54Speaker 4: hardest thing for players to learn. It's your career.
- 23:57Speaker 1: But the argument from a tweet and many others is
- 24:02Speaker 1: you are not an average hitter right now at a
- 24:04Speaker 1: year period where you're one of the worst in baseball.
- 24:07Speaker 4: It's you try your career. Your He's probably tried a
- 24:10Speaker 4: million different things that we don't know about.
- 24:12Speaker 1: That's yeah, yeah, And they did list some things here.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Here's the thing. It's your career at the end of
- 24:16Speaker 4: the day. Ultimately, you have to make a decision. Every coach,
- 24:19Speaker 4: every especially in the minor leagues, wants to put their
- 24:22Speaker 4: stamp on you and say, oh I helped I helped
- 24:25Speaker 4: Scott Braun.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Be a better hitter.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Oh I helped Aircrafts be a better hitter. Oh I
- 24:29Speaker 4: help this guy I helped. Look at me how much
- 24:31Speaker 4: I helped them? Right, But there are also things where
- 24:33Speaker 4: guys tell you stuff and you know it doesn't it's
- 24:35Speaker 4: not going to work for you, and you just go yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:37Speaker 4: oh yeah, actually I tried this, and you just do.
- 24:39Speaker 3: The same thing.
- 24:39Speaker 4: You're like, yeah that worked, dude, that was awesome, thank you. Right,
- 24:42Speaker 4: not saying that's right or wrong, but at the end
- 24:43Speaker 4: of the day, it's your career and you have to
- 24:44Speaker 4: make those decisions on a personal level. And there are
- 24:47Speaker 4: times Listen, I have plenty of coaches that were like, hey,
- 24:49Speaker 4: try this, try hitting right hand, to try being a pitcher,
- 24:51Speaker 4: try playing the outfield. I'm like, no, no, that's gonna
- 24:54Speaker 4: work for me.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:56Speaker 1: The person that's going to care most about you is you.
- 25:00Speaker 4: You, yep, and listen, you make mistakes. Sometimes there are
- 25:03Speaker 4: things that I look back, I said, man if I
- 25:04Speaker 4: would have tried that or that, But at the end
- 25:06Speaker 4: of the day, it's on you and it's your career
- 25:08Speaker 4: and it's your decision. Sing with an agent, we talk
- 25:10Speaker 4: about this when the extensions and the agents right the
- 25:13Speaker 4: agent were At the end of the day, agents work
- 25:14Speaker 4: for the players, although sometimes agents think that the player
- 25:17Speaker 4: worked for them.
- 25:18Speaker 3: But the if the if the team comes to you.
- 25:19Speaker 4: And you want us, and you're happy with the extension
- 25:21Speaker 4: or you're happy with the thing, then take it, because
- 25:23Speaker 4: at the end of the day, it's not about the agent,
- 25:25Speaker 4: it's about you. Any of the agent says you can
- 25:26Speaker 4: make more, you know what, I'm happy with whatever I
- 25:29Speaker 4: got and whatever. If I love money on the table,
- 25:32Speaker 4: oh well, I made the decision for me and my family,
- 25:34Speaker 4: not for my agent and his family.
- 25:36Speaker 5: So yep, ask Matt Dominga. Is that people haven't heard of,
- 25:41Speaker 5: don't remember them.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Some But what happened, Oh, because he turned down.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Turned down extensions. Yeah, when the astros were giving out
- 25:49Speaker 5: all those small extensions, he turned one down. Never made
- 25:52Speaker 5: that much money. He regrets it because at the time
- 25:57Speaker 5: he was like I thought I could make more. I
- 26:00Speaker 5: think he had just hit twenty homers in the big
- 26:02Speaker 5: leagues in a shortened season. Twenty one homers. Yeah, twenty
- 26:06Speaker 5: one homers. He's like, I can do that for late
- 26:08Speaker 5: the next three years. That'll be easy. It doesn't always
- 26:12Speaker 5: work out. It is your career. Nobody's stopping games because
- 26:16Speaker 5: somebody's not doing well. You're gonna play again. Every team's
- 26:19Speaker 5: going to play one hundred and sixty two the next year.
- 26:26Speaker 1: One other quote, Sorry, I'm getting wrecked by ants right now.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Did you guys see Mookie Betts on the bite back
- 26:34Speaker 1: about right field.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Uh no, what he says is not happening.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, which is fine. But he said people are
- 26:42Speaker 1: making stuff up. Somebody's in there trying to be the
- 26:44Speaker 1: first to report a story of their own. It's completely false.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I go in there to talk with Dave Roberts. Me
- 26:49Speaker 1: and Doc have this mentor of father son relationship. I
- 26:53Speaker 1: talked to him all the time about my swinging and
- 26:54Speaker 1: how it's coming along, and this and that and the other.
- 26:57Speaker 1: So somebody in there was just kind of guessing and
- 26:59Speaker 1: making stuff up. So whoever made that up, you need
- 27:01Speaker 1: to be careful with what you're reporting. I was in
- 27:02Speaker 1: there talking about my swing and how it's coming along.
- 27:05Speaker 1: That has nothing to do with going back to right field.
- 27:09Speaker 1: There was even more there that got even juiced here. Yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 1: just saying like media watch it. Remember the meeting last
- 27:19Speaker 1: week between him. I remember the meeting Friedman.
- 27:23Speaker 3: I don't know, we don't know what said.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I appreciate them not saying what was said in the meeting,
- 27:27Speaker 4: so Lukie can say whatever he wants. But if the
- 27:30Speaker 4: Dodgers are doing their due diligence, then they have to
- 27:33Speaker 4: ask Mookie about possibly doing that just to see if
- 27:35Speaker 4: it makes their team better than they probably came up.
- 27:37Speaker 3: But I don't know. We don't know that.
- 27:38Speaker 4: We weren't in the meeting, and that's fine. We weren't there.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Weren't there.
- 27:42Speaker 5: I have a hard time believing it's never discussed. We
- 27:45Speaker 5: weren't in the meeting. We don't know. Maybe it wasn't
- 27:46Speaker 5: discussed in that moment. But teams have algorithms that have
- 27:50Speaker 5: a value for every player on their twenty six man
- 27:54Speaker 5: roster and the guys on their forty man roster plugging
- 27:57Speaker 5: it in to play against a certain team. I have
- 28:00Speaker 5: a hard time believing in a game Miguel Rojas at
- 28:06Speaker 5: shortstop and Mookie Betts in right field and Ta Oscar
- 28:12Speaker 5: and left isn't a higher value through their algorithm than
- 28:19Speaker 5: the current lineup. But I don't know.
- 28:24Speaker 1: The other quote. I understand reporters have to do their job,
- 28:26Speaker 1: but you have to spread lives, you have to make
- 28:28Speaker 1: stuff up, especially because I'm a very open and honest person.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Just come talk to me and ask me. I don't
- 28:32Speaker 1: appreciate things being made up, but it kind of is
- 28:35Speaker 1: what it is, you know. Originally, the La Times reporter
- 28:38Speaker 1: who reported that there was a meeting, I don't think,
- 28:40Speaker 1: and that's what this story said actually listed what was
- 28:44Speaker 1: going on. Of course, he wasn't in the meeting. He
- 28:46Speaker 1: just said there was a meeting, and then it took
- 28:47Speaker 1: on a life of its own because people are like, Okay,
- 28:50Speaker 1: Ti Oscar just had a bad game, Mookie's talking to
- 28:53Speaker 1: some bosses. I think that it will at least come
- 28:56Speaker 1: up in the conversation. Not a crazy thought there. I
- 29:00Speaker 1: don't think it's that big of a deal. Also, this
- 29:02Speaker 1: is the fun part of sports. We should be discussing
- 29:04Speaker 1: that should he be in right field?
- 29:06Speaker 3: This is what happens.
- 29:07Speaker 1: This is no big deal. All good yea, and yes,
- 29:12Speaker 1: Mookie's really nice and he is for the most part,
- 29:15Speaker 1: one of the more open players in the game. But
- 29:16Speaker 1: for example, there was an incident this year, I think
- 29:18Speaker 1: with the Padres and Dodgers one of the series earlier
- 29:20Speaker 1: where there was bean ball, and he was like, yeah,
- 29:22Speaker 1: not talking about that. So we're not sitting down and
- 29:26Speaker 1: getting our tell all conversations from everyone. No, it's I
- 29:31Speaker 1: think sometimes we get to mid August, the season's long,
- 29:35Speaker 1: and it's the media's fault. Do you feel that way
- 29:39Speaker 1: sometimes where suddenly like this and I'm like, that's a stretch.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Whatever, listen, whatever the Mookie set up for himself, set
- 29:50Speaker 4: up for his guys, good teammate baseball media.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I mean, obviously I love our show. We're talking about
- 29:56Speaker 1: topics like this could be worse in the NFL. They're
- 29:58Speaker 1: talking about like a third or fourth bring quarterback and
- 30:01Speaker 1: all the rage right for most of the conversation that
- 30:04Speaker 1: I've seen over the past week, So I feel like
- 30:05Speaker 1: we have our head on straight a little more than most. OKAYKP,
- 30:12Speaker 1: this is your first arena club experience. We're going to
- 30:14Speaker 1: open a slab pack together. So first off, we're gonna
- 30:17Speaker 1: buy one of those twenty five dollars slab packs and
- 30:19Speaker 1: we get to see what is in the pack. There.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It is the Grail, which is the best card in
- 30:24Speaker 1: the pack and worth the most. There are some other
- 30:27Speaker 1: cards that we're chasing, and you can see the entire
- 30:29Speaker 1: lineup so that you know what you're in the running for.
- 30:31Speaker 1: There's the Yamamoto signed card. Now let's open up our
- 30:36Speaker 1: pack and see how we do. We have ourselves a
- 30:41Speaker 1: really cool graphic and then a show Heo Tani fifty
- 30:47Speaker 1: to fifty card from last year. What do you want
- 30:49Speaker 1: to do? Should we sell it right back to them
- 30:51Speaker 1: for sixteen or should we keep it?
- 30:53Speaker 5: You should give it to me, I'll keep.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Good answer, fine, I will give it to you. Since
- 30:58Speaker 1: the Blue Jays din't ghetto time, you can get this
- 31:01Speaker 1: fifty to fifty card instead. Use the code foul foul
- 31:04Speaker 1: to get yourself twenty percent off your first slab pack
- 31:06Speaker 1: or card purchase. Yes, you get to keep that card
- 31:09Speaker 1: if you want it. They send it to you foul
- 31:11Speaker 1: at Arena club dot com slash foul.
- 31:15Speaker 3: What's up?
- 31:16Speaker 1: You see this average MLB four seem fastball VLO by season.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Look at Righty's they're at ninety five miles an hour.
- 31:21Speaker 1: That's the average. So if you're like, oh, I throw
- 31:25Speaker 1: ninety five, you're like, cool, you're an average big league
- 31:27Speaker 1: or average number.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Hi yeah, II yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, okay cool.
- 31:37Speaker 3: When Mark Mulder comes on next, I want you to
- 31:40Speaker 3: listen to what he says.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Okay, we'll talk villa, and.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yeah, he talks. He gets into some some VLO. Talk
- 31:44Speaker 3: about it.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Now, if you're lefty, you throw ninety two.
- 31:48Speaker 4: But I also watched Jason Alexander go out against the
- 31:50Speaker 4: Orioles and shove Nester Cortes shoved it up the Dodgers
- 31:55Speaker 4: for you know, for six innings with one hit, throwing
- 31:57Speaker 4: ninety one miles an hour. So like, it's not always
- 32:00Speaker 4: about the velo. Velo is great, Villa is wonderful, but
- 32:02Speaker 4: the easiest commodity to find in baseball right now velocity and.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Anyway, Kratz, I'd be like, hey, you're bringing our average
- 32:10Speaker 1: VLO down.
- 32:12Speaker 5: I love I love it that they went to throwing harder.
- 32:15Speaker 5: If everybody went to the Bronson Arroyo look from twenty
- 32:18Speaker 5: ten on, my career would have ended a real quick
- 32:21Speaker 5: But nobody knew how to teach everybody knows how to
- 32:25Speaker 5: teach Vlo, so that helped me out and hit a fastball.
- 32:29Speaker 1: There you go, and just points to where we're at
- 32:32Speaker 1: from a sport perspective on how hard guys are throwing
- 32:35Speaker 1: and why the arm injury epidemic continues. It's fun to
- 32:40Speaker 1: watch heat, though, I will say it's great, like when
- 32:42Speaker 1: we get to the playoffs, we're gonna be like, oh,
- 32:45Speaker 1: Duran Mason Miller. They come in the eighth and they
- 32:48Speaker 1: got him out of the gym. They went five outs.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's entertaining out of the box scores. Let's go over
- 33:01Speaker 1: recent games the Mets and the Phillies this week, and
- 33:04Speaker 1: we have to go right to our reporter in Pennsylvania,
- 33:07Speaker 1: Aeric Kratz, for the result of that one. Kratz had
- 33:09Speaker 1: it go.
- 33:12Speaker 5: After the third inning. It went very heavily to the Mets,
- 33:17Speaker 5: and it may have been the last game that Jordan
- 33:19Speaker 5: Romano pitches for the Phillies. It definitely showed that the
- 33:24Speaker 5: Phillies are a team. If they're going to succeed in
- 33:26Speaker 5: the playoffs, they have to have everything line up exactly
- 33:32Speaker 5: right in the sense that their offense has to be
- 33:34Speaker 5: clicking early to be able to give it over to
- 33:36Speaker 5: the bullpen because they don't have they don't necessarily have
- 33:40Speaker 5: the bullpen that can keep you in like a two
- 33:44Speaker 5: run game. It's going to be an offensive team, I
- 33:47Speaker 5: think in the playoffs that gets great starting pitching and
- 33:51Speaker 5: your two pieces three pieces at the back of the bullpen.
- 33:54Speaker 5: It's not as deep as like a Padres team. But
- 33:57Speaker 5: last night got it got ugly. But Luis Terrenz filling
- 34:01Speaker 5: in for the Mets, filling in for Francisco Alvarez, who
- 34:06Speaker 5: supposedly I think is starting a rehab assignment. I mean,
- 34:11Speaker 5: what a night. He just he was clearly going to
- 34:15Speaker 5: right center field the entire night and ended up with
- 34:18Speaker 5: five stakes, big three run jack to put the game
- 34:21Speaker 5: out of out of control. It was. It was the
- 34:25Speaker 5: Luis nz game.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Biantos has been fired for the Mets for a
- 34:30Speaker 1: few days now. They got to Christopher Sanchez, he's the
- 34:32Speaker 1: top three cy young guy this year. Six runs, five
- 34:35Speaker 1: earned and after the ten unanswered runs from the Mets
- 34:39Speaker 1: and a big win. Or was it were they down
- 34:41Speaker 1: three to nothing the Mets, Yeah, thirteen unanswered Yeah, because
- 34:46Speaker 1: they won thirteen to three. Yeah, I will bring this
- 34:50Speaker 1: question up, and I know it's one game. Aj, Did
- 34:52Speaker 1: the Phillies do it enough or should they added? Should
- 34:54Speaker 1: they have added one more? They added to everybody wants. Yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 1: but Patres did. Over the last two years, they've had
- 35:02Speaker 1: like four closers. Yeah, it is helpful. It's over a
- 35:05Speaker 1: long period of time though, sure.
- 35:06Speaker 3: And I don't know.
- 35:08Speaker 4: I think Dobrowski wasn't counting on the Wheeler thing going down.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I think their bullpenny thought was set once they got
- 35:15Speaker 4: they're getting Alvarado back. Yes, he won't be available for
- 35:17Speaker 4: the playoffs, but Duran at the back end, some of
- 35:20Speaker 4: the other guys. Robertson's been great since he's come over.
- 35:23Speaker 4: So I don't know. It's one game. You guys are
- 35:25Speaker 4: overreacting just because Crats is a fan and he's mad.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Because it's one game doesn't mean Scott you should overreact
- 35:29Speaker 4: to one game too.
- 35:30Speaker 5: Why here's my non overreaction. The Phillies are have lost
- 35:35Speaker 5: eight of the last nine in City Field. Maybe the
- 35:39Speaker 5: Phillies don't want to see the Mets in the playoffs
- 35:42Speaker 5: to say.
- 35:43Speaker 3: They lost him last year.
- 35:44Speaker 4: They lost him last year and went over six last night,
- 35:47Speaker 4: and Lindor went over six last night, and they still
- 35:49Speaker 4: scored thirteen eight of.
- 35:52Speaker 5: The last nine in City Field is a it's a
- 35:56Speaker 5: problem for the Phillies any way.
- 35:58Speaker 4: Scott is just getting eaten up with bugs, by the way,
- 36:00Speaker 4: just getting eaten If you see him like and not
- 36:03Speaker 4: one is bugs, no one.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I know what.
- 36:08Speaker 4: I've had one bug on me. It was a love bug.
- 36:10Speaker 4: So because I'm full of love.
- 36:13Speaker 5: Basically, you're You're Fasto Carmona, You're Fausto Carmona, and he's
- 36:18Speaker 5: Joba Chamberlain.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Yep, I'm Roberto Hernandoz and a chance.
- 36:23Speaker 1: To attack me t shirts available at foul Territory shop
- 36:27Speaker 1: dot com.
- 36:27Speaker 3: It's because I eat gluten and dairy.
- 36:29Speaker 1: They don't like me, true Jordan Romano.
- 36:31Speaker 3: And by the way, can I just say, I know
- 36:34Speaker 3: so far off topic.
- 36:35Speaker 1: People are going to catch this clip later.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Don't care what, don't care what other people think whether
- 36:39Speaker 4: Scott said he's allergic to onions, okay, which I there's
- 36:42Speaker 4: also someone else here that's allergic to apples, carrots and
- 36:45Speaker 4: any vegetable, which is not a thing.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I mean is this doesn't believe in allergies.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I believe in allergies.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I don't believe it at the hospital. I don't believe it.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Like alerg you have an allergy, no said, nobody ever
- 36:56Speaker 1: has been allergic to an onion. Onion, You have an
- 36:59Speaker 1: allergy to a fruit or a vegetable. Aj, this is
- 37:02Speaker 1: all fake, don't sue us. AJ is going to go
- 37:04Speaker 1: to a hospital and bring everyone in and they're going
- 37:06Speaker 1: to test him one by one and see who lives
- 37:08Speaker 1: and who dies, just testing fruits and vegetables. Anyway, I don't.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I just I don't know, Chris, have you ever heard
- 37:14Speaker 4: of anybody being allergic to a carrot?
- 37:18Speaker 5: Carrots? No vegetables.
- 37:20Speaker 1: I'm not allergic to carrots, but we have someone who's
- 37:22Speaker 1: part of our team who's allergic to apples, and I
- 37:24Speaker 1: have heard of apples from others. If heat the seeds,
- 37:27Speaker 1: you're probably in trouble, but not the apple. It's about
- 37:29Speaker 1: the stem.
- 37:30Speaker 3: I don't know anyway.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Are the Phillies allergic to Jordan Romano for the rest
- 37:35Speaker 1: of the season? Should they cut him? He's got an
- 37:37Speaker 1: eight to two three e r A and forty two
- 37:40Speaker 1: and two thirds innings. It's August, almost September. Krats help
- 37:46Speaker 1: us out. Yeah, probably, it's almost September.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, the time.
- 37:52Speaker 5: I feel, I feel like it's time. I mean, I
- 37:56Speaker 5: never want to condone cutting somebody, but they've given him
- 37:59Speaker 5: over four innings. That is a crazy amount. And I
- 38:04Speaker 5: heard Topper talk the other day. Rob Thompson was talking
- 38:07Speaker 5: about it and he said, really lately, it's been a
- 38:12Speaker 5: lot of one pitch, unlucky mistakes, and then he makes
- 38:17Speaker 5: one pitch that you know is left in the middle
- 38:19Speaker 5: of the plate. Yeah, that's what happens. He is not
- 38:25Speaker 5: he's getting behind in the count. He's throwing that slider
- 38:28Speaker 5: that used to be that gyro slider that was more
- 38:31Speaker 5: like a curveball, but spun like a slider, and it
- 38:34Speaker 5: has doesn't have the depth. So not only is it
- 38:38Speaker 5: starting off the plate and staying off the plate, but
- 38:40Speaker 5: then when it's on the plate, it's not breaking down
- 38:44Speaker 5: like it used to. And it's just it's okay, it's okay.
- 38:47Speaker 5: It doesn't mean his career is over. It just means,
- 38:50Speaker 5: you hope there's somebody in Triple A, maybe an Andrew
- 38:54Speaker 5: Paynter who can adjust as a you know, go from
- 38:57Speaker 5: starting and throwing a pen for these you know, if
- 39:00Speaker 5: they need somebody to step up. Jordan Romano was never
- 39:03Speaker 5: since May. He wasn't gonna be a piece for the
- 39:06Speaker 5: playoff roster. But you're still talking about trying to get
- 39:09Speaker 5: through these innings and it can't be Joe Ross every night.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Agreed, agreed. Might it might just be time. Maybe he
- 39:18Speaker 4: goes to the offseason and goes to a place and
- 39:20Speaker 4: figure some stuff out and comes back next year better
- 39:22Speaker 4: than never.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Who knows.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Phillies fans wanted Taiwan Walker gone, but he was on
- 39:25Speaker 1: a multi year contract Jordan Romano that has been very
- 39:28Speaker 1: valuable for That's my point. They wanted him off the
- 39:31Speaker 1: team and last year in June or something like that,
- 39:35Speaker 1: right difference, and they held on different different because he
- 39:38Speaker 1: was on a multi year Romanos.
- 39:40Speaker 5: Jordan Romano's eating one inning Tywan Walker, even on the
- 39:44Speaker 5: big contract. I think it's twenty five minute. I think
- 39:46Speaker 5: he got three year, seventy five. He's eating three innings
- 39:52Speaker 5: in a bad start, he's eating four innings. You need
- 39:55Speaker 5: to build your team with more than just five starters.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Some teams are running into that, and now they're down
- 40:01Speaker 5: to three. Phillies lost Nola for a majority of the year.
- 40:04Speaker 5: Now they lost Wheeler. Nola's back. You need to still
- 40:07Speaker 5: be able built by innings and Tyler Walker can give
- 40:11Speaker 5: you more innings. That's why I said, don't get rid
- 40:13Speaker 5: of him yet. Now Taiwan Walker's thrown himself into should
- 40:18Speaker 5: be in the mix to be on the playoff froster.
- 40:21Speaker 1: One more thing from this game, and again props to
- 40:23Speaker 1: the Mets offense. Great star for them, and they need
- 40:25Speaker 1: these games much more than the Phillies do, by the way,
- 40:28Speaker 1: because the Reds are right behind them. They had to
- 40:30Speaker 1: delay this game for nineteen minutes. There was it, nineteen
- 40:35Speaker 1: minutes whatever it was, it was double digit minutes, ten, fifteen,
- 40:39Speaker 1: twenty minutes. Alec Bohm pointing to the outfields to a
- 40:43Speaker 1: microphone there. It is clear microphone that's next to the
- 40:47Speaker 1: stands that he felt shouldn't be there. Turns out it's
- 40:52Speaker 1: been there for years.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Yeap, Who is it?
- 40:55Speaker 1: Kratz on the post game for the Phillies, Ricky Batalico,
- 40:58Speaker 1: who always sounds off. Is that who it was that
- 41:00Speaker 1: that went after Bowman the field?
- 41:04Speaker 5: It was either Ricky or Michael Barkan.
- 41:07Speaker 1: I think it was Batalico. So whose side are you
- 41:10Speaker 1: on for this one? If there's something that's been there
- 41:12Speaker 1: for years, it's a parabolic mic that probably picks up
- 41:15Speaker 1: extra sound for something and it's in the batter's eye,
- 41:19Speaker 1: but all the way to the right near the stands.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Should the opposition be complaining about it?
- 41:26Speaker 5: Uh? Yes, because maybe they have a guy on their
- 41:30Speaker 5: team that his arm slot is perfectly right behind, right
- 41:34Speaker 5: in front of that parabolic mic as you said it, Like, yes,
- 41:40Speaker 5: just they should say something about it, like it's a microphone,
- 41:43Speaker 5: Like I think it's something that should should be moved.
- 41:46Speaker 5: But uh, probably before you hit into a ground ball
- 41:51Speaker 5: double play. That's that's my.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Son, move it. Let me get this straight.
- 41:58Speaker 4: So the guy in the white T shirt that so
- 42:00Speaker 4: two foot to the left of that microphone is okay,
- 42:03Speaker 4: But that one little mic that's clear and you, I mean,
- 42:06Speaker 4: I guess you could see it. I don't know is
- 42:09Speaker 4: affecting the hitting.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I'm just asking what if for the playoffs, if these
- 42:13Speaker 1: two teams meet up, they have everyone in the outfield
- 42:15Speaker 1: whear white shirts and then they flip them when the
- 42:18Speaker 1: Mets are.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Up home field advantage. Yeah, but I don't know.
- 42:22Speaker 4: There's a guy and two feet closer than me and
- 42:25Speaker 4: Scott Away that was in a white shirt that didn't
- 42:28Speaker 4: affect but the little circle mic.
- 42:30Speaker 1: So if a teammate and you're a more senior member
- 42:33Speaker 1: of the team at the time. Let's just hypothetical. This
- 42:36Speaker 1: complains about that. What would you say to the teammate.
- 42:40Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say that on the air.
- 42:43Speaker 5: I'll set it, I'll say it. I can't stand when
- 42:46Speaker 5: guys come back to the dugout and be like, I
- 42:48Speaker 5: can't I can't see that the sun is. So you
- 42:52Speaker 5: go up to the dug out and you're like, where's
- 42:55Speaker 5: the where's the sun at? Like I'm trying to I'm
- 42:57Speaker 5: trying to look like there's a lot of things that
- 43:01Speaker 5: can get in the way. But I don't know. I
- 43:05Speaker 5: don't know. It's part way through the game too. It's
- 43:08Speaker 5: been in City Field for years.
- 43:09Speaker 4: So what's his career numbers? That's the question. What's his
- 43:13Speaker 4: career numbers at City Field?
- 43:14Speaker 1: Oh, you think they're bad? And then he's like, I
- 43:16Speaker 1: don't know, I'm maybe I don't know.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Maybe whoever he was facing he has bad numbers. Again,
- 43:21Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know. I'm just looking up.
- 43:25Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 43:25Speaker 1: It was it was a weird.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Thing to complain about.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why it was brought up.
- 43:29Speaker 3: I know.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Post game show it's like, I don't know if we're
- 43:35Speaker 1: doing that. Yeah, that's taking a delay off a game
- 43:38Speaker 1: that's trying to speed up. It's one thing if it's
- 43:41Speaker 1: something new, right, Hey, we've put that out there. But
- 43:43Speaker 1: if it's there for years, it's not the last. It's
- 43:45Speaker 1: not the first time the Phillies have been there with that.
- 43:47Speaker 1: So true. Maybe we'll ask guy look about it at
- 43:49Speaker 1: some point, probably not ft FAM. Welcome to the World's

- 45:44Speaker 3: thought we saw, oh yeah, that's not a key date.
- 45:46Speaker 1: They didn't announce it yet. I think that.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Was people jumping.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Somebody took the risk of a baseball to the gut
- 45:52Speaker 1: to report on that story.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Games they did the first time.
- 45:58Speaker 4: Are we excited about the A's go into Vegas to
- 46:00Speaker 4: play in the Triple A Ballpark?
- 46:02Speaker 1: Vegas? Vegas? Is that place better be rocket? He was
- 46:06Speaker 1: excited about them going to play in a Triple A ballpark.
- 46:08Speaker 1: At least they get some Major League baseball there.
- 46:11Speaker 3: They get it. Every spring training a team goes there.
- 46:14Speaker 5: One of these. One of these things on here has
- 46:17Speaker 5: no relevant to me, has no relevance. All of these
- 46:21Speaker 5: things are awesome, awesome, momentous occasions. Crazy. That's twenty five
- 46:26Speaker 5: years since nine to eleven A's go to a minor
- 46:31Speaker 5: league stadium to play more games.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Time Crats do I sound lupily now much better?
- 46:41Speaker 5: Sounded buzzy before buzz light year.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you got rid of the bugs. Kyle Riley fifty
- 46:48Speaker 1: homers Operation MVP.
- 46:53Speaker 3: You heard it. You heard it here first, I said,
- 46:55Speaker 3: I've been saying it for a long time.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Note that. Give me something else.
- 46:58Speaker 4: He's got the all time record for home He's chasing
- 47:00Speaker 4: down Mickey Mano for the home most catch, and then
- 47:04Speaker 4: he's gonna he's chasing down Mickey Mano for the all
- 47:06Speaker 4: time homers for switch hitter. The biggest question is can
- 47:08Speaker 4: he beat Judge? Can he get to sixty three? I
- 47:10Speaker 4: mean you had to yesterday or two two days ago?
- 47:13Speaker 4: One yesterday? He's feeling it. I don't know, but I'd
- 47:17Speaker 4: love to see it. Absolutely big dumper.
- 47:19Speaker 1: That one went a long way.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Kratz, you go, you go upstairs there, that's big time.
- 47:26Speaker 5: There's some upper decks that are tough to get to.
- 47:29Speaker 5: He went about eight rows up in the upper upper
- 47:32Speaker 5: tank there. That was a bomb. And to me, it's
- 47:38Speaker 5: really a matter of what number you think he's not
- 47:41Speaker 5: gonna reach. Is he gonna catch Aaron Judge? He's gonna
- 47:45Speaker 5: break Mickey Mantle's switch hitter record. I think he's gonna
- 47:49Speaker 5: break the catching record. I think it was Hobby Lopez.
- 47:51Speaker 5: We said it yesterday. And then you're gonna start getting
- 47:55Speaker 5: into the Ken Griffy Junior. Will he beat the great
- 48:00Speaker 5: Ken Griffy Junior. He'll never go down as the great
- 48:03Speaker 5: camp the great cal Raley, But why not compared to.
- 48:11Speaker 3: The glove?
- 48:12Speaker 1: Yeah, home runs?
- 48:13Speaker 4: I mean chance if he continues, I mean he's got
- 48:16Speaker 4: a chance to be one of the all time great
- 48:18Speaker 4: long term deal, he got long term deal.
- 48:24Speaker 3: The kid he.
- 48:25Speaker 5: Will be up there with Ken Griffy Junior. No way,
- 48:31Speaker 5: he could have a Hall of Fame career. But can
- 48:35Speaker 5: Griffy or The thing is everybody sees this is like
- 48:38Speaker 5: a one year thing from cal Rawley in a sense
- 48:40Speaker 5: that like, wow, he really burst on the scene. He
- 48:42Speaker 5: has so many home run records through the first I
- 48:46Speaker 5: don't know how many games of his career as a Mariner.
- 48:49Speaker 5: You're talking about dudes that have hit a lot of
- 48:51Speaker 5: home runs in Seattle's history, and he's been breaking those
- 48:56Speaker 5: records coming up to this year and now he's got fifty.
- 48:59Speaker 5: This year. He was the fastest too, I think eighty
- 49:02Speaker 5: or ninety home runs. He was the fastest to one
- 49:06Speaker 5: hundred home runs. He was the first, you know, switch hit,
- 49:09Speaker 5: or he's been doing this for a long time. The
- 49:12Speaker 5: difference is now he's hitting it, doing it on a
- 49:15Speaker 5: playoff team, and his batting average is over two fifty.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I'll redo the quote because it was fun, and when
- 49:23Speaker 1: you're this good all year, you want to try and
- 49:25Speaker 1: switch it up. Yeah, don't just say yeah, it's going
- 49:28Speaker 1: well like He's often given us some fun quotes. We
- 49:32Speaker 1: saw the Sarah Langs stat on most home runs in
- 49:35Speaker 1: a season by a primary catcher. Almost there, yep, here's
- 49:41Speaker 1: the quote. He said, it doesn't seem real. I mean,
- 49:43Speaker 1: fifty home runs. It's kind of a crazy number to
- 49:45Speaker 1: think of. I thought I was a cool player when
- 49:47Speaker 1: I hit five home runs when I was young in
- 49:49Speaker 1: high school or something. You hit five, you had all
- 49:51Speaker 1: this power in the world. So it's just crazy, like, oh, hey.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Good for him. But by the way, when we talk
- 49:57Speaker 3: about five Dingers, when.
- 49:58Speaker 4: We talk about like him versus Griffy, listen, we're not
- 50:02Speaker 4: saying he's going to be better than Griffy. We're saying,
- 50:04Speaker 4: is he's got a chance is one of the all
- 50:06Speaker 4: time Mariner greats? If he keeps us up what he's doing.
- 50:09Speaker 4: We're not saying he's gonna take place, because we don't
- 50:11Speaker 4: want anybody saying, oh, they're saying cal Rale's.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Gonna be better. No, no, he's not gonna be better than Ken
- 50:15Speaker 3: Griffy Junior.
- 50:15Speaker 4: What we're saying is he's got a chance to go
- 50:17Speaker 4: down if he continues, just to go down as one
- 50:19Speaker 4: of the Mariner all time greats.
- 50:22Speaker 1: He signed up for the long term. I was doing
- 50:24Speaker 1: this math the other day, Kratz. You know how front
- 50:27Speaker 1: offices will try and put a number to how many
- 50:30Speaker 1: wins you're worth your wins, So he's he's over seven.
- 50:33Speaker 1: He's almost exact same as Judge. If you look at
- 50:36Speaker 1: fangrafts and some of the people who are looking at
- 50:38Speaker 1: MVP are like, see now, I'm like, okay, even if
- 50:41Speaker 1: he was six point eight and Judge was seven point two,
- 50:43Speaker 1: you're allowed to vote for Kyle Riley over Judge. It's
- 50:46Speaker 1: not most war for most for most valuable player. But anyway,
- 50:51Speaker 1: I digress. If you think one win is worth seven
- 50:56Speaker 1: million dollars, which is I think somewhat conservative, then he's
- 51:00Speaker 1: a fifteen million dollar player this year.
- 51:04Speaker 5: Yeah, seven seven millions in all number. I think it's
- 51:06Speaker 5: actually seven point six now is the last the last
- 51:08Speaker 5: thing I read.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I've seen it all the way up to tennis. But
- 51:15Speaker 1: I'm saying, like, let's go on the lowest end that
- 51:16Speaker 1: I've seen seven.
- 51:18Speaker 4: Seven, right either because the guys that's not true. So
- 51:22Speaker 4: that's why, because it's not true.
- 51:24Speaker 1: But this is what front offices.
- 51:26Speaker 4: But you don't get paid off ten million dollars because
- 51:28Speaker 4: there's a rookie kid out there, whoever it is, the
- 51:30Speaker 4: rookie of the year, Paul Skeans is making league minimum
- 51:32Speaker 4: or whatever it is, whatever going over that.
- 51:34Speaker 1: But my point is that if it was a complete
- 51:37Speaker 1: free market, one win, according to many front offices, is
- 51:42Speaker 1: at least seven million dollars. So Kyle Roley, who just
- 51:45Speaker 1: signed that what six year one hundred, is already hitting
- 51:48Speaker 1: up half that contract worth the value in one season?
- 51:53Speaker 5: Okay comment, Okay, whether we're arguing about.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Because he's not worth because just because yeah, great, one
- 52:01Speaker 4: win is worth it? Okay, So then why don't they
- 52:02Speaker 4: do this at the next bargaining agreement. You just get
- 52:05Speaker 4: paid off your war. I bet you the war numbers
- 52:07Speaker 4: will change real quick. You get paid only off your war.
- 52:09Speaker 4: So if you're a three war player and you're in
- 52:11Speaker 4: your second year, you get thirty million dollars.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I'm just going to do that would change. Yes, I'm
- 52:15Speaker 1: going to say, now, don't give me that when.
- 52:17Speaker 4: War is worth this and that, because all teams don't.
- 52:19Speaker 4: First of all, there's more than one example of war.
- 52:21Speaker 4: So there's one F war, B war, C war, D war,
- 52:24Speaker 4: E war. Who gives a crap war? Yeah, I mean listen,
- 52:27Speaker 4: but teams don't pay off that. So don't give me
- 52:30Speaker 4: that war is worth this much or this much. It's
- 52:32Speaker 4: not because it's not you know how he get paid.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Can I ask you a question about Kyle Riley's production
- 52:36Speaker 1: this year? If I could tell you, hey, you could
- 52:38Speaker 1: find this production from this player, how much would you
- 52:42Speaker 1: pay for him for one season on a contending team?
- 52:45Speaker 1: What would his season be worth? And how much playoff value?
- 52:49Speaker 3: One year deal? A one year deal, probably twenty five
- 52:52Speaker 3: to thirty million for one year.
- 52:53Speaker 1: That's it going into it because they don't know it's coming. No. No,
- 52:56Speaker 1: if I'm saying, hey, you're gonna get the best catcher
- 52:58Speaker 1: of I'm giving you the status in advance and say
- 53:00Speaker 1: what does this worth to you? For one season. Isn't
- 53:03Speaker 1: it worth fifty million bucks?
- 53:04Speaker 4: They wouldn't pay that though, I know they wouldn't pay
- 53:06Speaker 4: that vacuum.
- 53:07Speaker 1: What is the season worth that?
- 53:09Speaker 3: Then?
- 53:09Speaker 1: Why can't we play this game? Because it's not a
- 53:11Speaker 1: real game. It's not realistic. I can't have any fun here,
- 53:14Speaker 1: Kratz No, because it's not realistic.
- 53:17Speaker 3: It's not realistic.
- 53:18Speaker 1: It is I'm no, no, no, no, don't it.
- 53:21Speaker 5: Okay, it's realistic. It's realistic because if it were up
- 53:25Speaker 5: to the owners, they would love one year contracts. Okay,
- 53:28Speaker 5: if you're gonna pay guys one year contracts, you're gonna
- 53:31Speaker 5: have to give out a sixty million dollar contract because
- 53:35Speaker 5: Aaron Judge will be worth sixty million dollars after this year.
- 53:38Speaker 5: Cal Raley when he finishes this season, in their mind,
- 53:42Speaker 5: will be worth sixty million dollars this year. So it's
- 53:45Speaker 5: a realistic question that Scott put out there, because teams
- 53:50Speaker 5: don't want to give out these long contracts, even this
- 53:52Speaker 5: extension six years one oh five that with with a
- 53:55Speaker 5: vesting option for cal Raley, Well they're they're picking that
- 53:58Speaker 5: up unless he gets hurt and they would have to
- 54:01Speaker 5: pay this. So I agree with you and yes, the
- 54:04Speaker 5: number is fifty to sixty million. If you know you're
- 54:07Speaker 5: getting this production from the catching position, the Dodgers would
- 54:12Speaker 5: pay fifty to sixty million dollars And what then?
- 54:15Speaker 3: What then? Then? Why would then why did Juan Soto? Right? Yeah,
- 54:19Speaker 3: just out sign one year deals the whole time.
- 54:21Speaker 1: No, no, no, you guys are getting too realistic with get mine.
- 54:25Speaker 4: He's on a realist I've played in the real world.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I don't play hat off your CBA hat. Wanted to
- 54:31Speaker 1: know if you're in fantasyland and I say, hey, we
- 54:34Speaker 1: have a catcher available for your contending team. You need
- 54:36Speaker 1: a catcher. These are the numbers you're going to get.
- 54:39Speaker 1: How much money would you pay?
- 54:40Speaker 3: By the way, he is on a contending team, so.
- 54:42Speaker 1: I know that I know he's on a contending.
- 54:46Speaker 3: All your arguments, you're no. One void, you're.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Ball busting to the highest. No, there are offt balls
- 54:52Speaker 1: flying everywhere right now, I'm just saying, like, how much
- 54:55Speaker 1: would you pay for him? Right? You're running how much
- 54:57Speaker 1: he signed for? Who cares not?
- 54:59Speaker 3: Who cares? How much he signed for?
- 55:01Speaker 1: Six years, one oh five?
- 55:02Speaker 3: That is exactly what great, that's exactly what I pay Scott.
- 55:07Speaker 5: Since you got since you're not getting anywhere. I agree
- 55:10Speaker 5: with you. Yes, I would pay fifty to sixty million
- 55:13Speaker 5: dollars for a year that you know you're getting fifty
- 55:15Speaker 5: plus homers from the catching position. The real question is,
- 55:18Speaker 5: because we talked early in the show about Royce Lewis,
- 55:21Speaker 5: how much did that contract that he signed, that cal
- 55:24Speaker 5: Raley signed before the year helped dictate this season? Helped
- 55:30Speaker 5: him do what he's doing because the hit home runs.
- 55:33Speaker 5: Everybody will tell you, no matter where your swing change
- 55:35Speaker 5: is or not, you got to catch the ball out front.
- 55:38Speaker 5: To catch the ball out front, you might swing and
- 55:41Speaker 5: miss at a few more pitches. Now he's catching the
- 55:44Speaker 5: ball out front from the left side and the right side.
- 55:47Speaker 5: Maybe that contract allowed him to relax a little bit
- 55:50Speaker 5: and not worry so much about the narrative that the
- 55:52Speaker 5: Mariners strike out so much, and maybe that enabled him
- 55:56Speaker 5: to become a better hitter because he has one hundred
- 55:58Speaker 5: and five million dollars coming to him and doesn't have
- 56:00Speaker 5: to play for his contract.
- 56:02Speaker 3: No doubt about fantasy.
- 56:03Speaker 1: No doubt about it. Even in Fantasyland, we call that
- 56:06Speaker 1: bleep it mode where it's like you're you're just going
- 56:11Speaker 1: out there to have a good time and do whatever win.
- 56:14Speaker 4: Say that because he wants to win and he wants
- 56:15Speaker 4: to do well soon going out there saying bleep it.
- 56:19Speaker 1: No, he's not worried about what the offseason is going
- 56:22Speaker 1: to look like. Okay, he's just worried about what's going
- 56:24Speaker 1: to help a million worth. Didn't you play with some
- 56:29Speaker 1: guys who would go out on the field and feel
- 56:31Speaker 1: like real tense and like I have to prove every
- 56:33Speaker 1: single second of what I'm doing here, And then some
- 56:34Speaker 1: guys that were like, Hey, I'm I'm playing free and
- 56:37Speaker 1: easy and it's leading to more.
- 56:39Speaker 4: Sometimes guys when they signed contracts play do worse the
- 56:41Speaker 4: first year because they're trying to live up to the contract.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Hey, they don't always all work too. I mean, Lawrence
- 56:46Speaker 1: Butler is having a really down year compared to what
- 56:48Speaker 1: he did last year. But it's long term deal and
- 56:51Speaker 1: days aren't in playoff range anyway. But coy Riley fifty
- 56:54Speaker 1: eight point five million dollars is his worth according to A. J. Prazinski,
- 56:58Speaker 1: if you could buy that sticle production to the one
- 57:01Speaker 1: seas you heard it here first. I just wanted to
- 57:04Speaker 1: come up with a different way to hype up how valuable.
- 57:07Speaker 1: He's been He's very valuable.
- 57:09Speaker 3: But you know what, they sign him for a deal
- 57:10Speaker 3: and he's happy with the deal. So that's how much he's.
- 57:12Speaker 1: I'm not crapping on the deal. I'm just saying he
- 57:14Speaker 1: is extremely valuable, and I wanted to try and put another.
- 57:17Speaker 3: The MVP of the American League.
- 57:18Speaker 1: He is the m v P. You've heard it here
- 57:21Speaker 1: since what May.
- 57:22Speaker 3: I've been saying it since for a long time, at
- 57:24Speaker 3: least May.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say May. Anyway, we'll take a break
- 57:30Speaker 1: when we come back. Yeah, slap pants. Hey Brian McCann
- 57:38Speaker 1: right here. We're on live TV, so just be careful.
- 57:42Speaker 1: That was good. See what he does with the drone.
- 57:48Speaker 3: And now we got Malark.
- 57:50Speaker 4: He heard the play by play, Yeah he heard it.
- 57:56Speaker 3: That's right. By the way.
- 57:58Speaker 1: We're all over the place, but our turn.
- 58:00Speaker 3: Katie.
- 58:00Speaker 1: That book she keeps of cards is everybody that was
- 58:03Speaker 1: on the show during her internship, plus the host, and
- 58:06Speaker 1: so she's got nameplates for anyone she's missing still, but
- 58:09Speaker 1: she's been collecting the card so everyone.
- 58:10Speaker 3: No.
- 58:10Speaker 1: I thought that was cool.
- 58:11Speaker 3: That's cool. I didn't see that I was talking.
- 58:13Speaker 1: That s cool. Props to Katie. That's a project during
- 58:17Speaker 1: the summer. I really like that. She sent that to
- 58:18Speaker 1: us on her way out finishing up the program and
- 58:21Speaker 1: we were like, hey, we got to show that, and
- 58:23Speaker 1: she said go for it. So thanks Katie. Anyway, big
- 58:27Speaker 1: show tomorrow, Josh Donaldson, maybe Brian mccannon. We're gonna talk
