- 0:00Speaker 1: Here we are, guys, our last break of the day.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Thank you, as we do every day. Thank you so
- 0:05Speaker 1: much to our fabulous, fabulous Steve Harvey Nation for joining
- 0:09Speaker 1: us every day, for listening. We appreciate you. We love you.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Thank you. Couldn't do it without you.
- 0:14Speaker 2: We're going to leave you with one of my uncle's
- 0:16Speaker 2: favorite closing remarks. Here it is right here. You know,
- 0:21Speaker 2: I was thinking of something the other day. I heard
- 0:26Speaker 2: something online. And it really affected me profoundly. And it
- 0:33Speaker 2: made me sit down and ponder and really think of
- 0:37Speaker 2: the goodness of God and all that God has done
- 0:40Speaker 2: for me. And I think about my life, my legacy,
- 0:46Speaker 2: that when my life is over, what I would like
- 0:48Speaker 2: to be said about me. And I discovered it's not
- 0:52Speaker 2: about the comedy. It's not about the TV shows, the awards,
- 0:57Speaker 2: none of that. It's about much deeper. It's really about
- 1:01Speaker 2: what I'm hoping to accomplish from here on out. And
- 1:05Speaker 2: it's not about my shows or anything like that. It's
- 1:09Speaker 2: about the legacy. It's about trying to make an imprint
- 1:16Speaker 2: in the world in which I live in. And I'm
- 1:19Speaker 2: not going to change the world. I'm not that egotistical
- 1:23Speaker 2: that one man changes the world because it has to
- 1:26Speaker 2: be a collective effort. It's a huge world. It's 8
- 1:28Speaker 2: billion people here. There's no one person that can change
- 1:31Speaker 2: the entire world. Jesus came to change and to save,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and he was sped upon and hung on the cross.
- 1:42Speaker 2: But he had a lasting effect, though. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:46Speaker 2: The 33 years he was here was, oh, my goodness.
- 1:49Speaker 2: what an impact he had. Now, I'm not Christ, let's
- 1:53Speaker 2: be clear about that. Nobody is. But I do want
- 1:57Speaker 2: to have an impact. And I was listening to somebody online,
- 2:02Speaker 2: and they said, what makes this world great is that
- 2:10Speaker 2: when old men plant trees, the shade in which they
- 2:16Speaker 2: will never sit in Good people do things for other people.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And I'm thinking about my life, that I'm actually in
- 2:24Speaker 2: the process of planting trees and the shade of which
- 2:29Speaker 2: I will never sit in. I won't get to sit
- 2:32Speaker 2: under some of these trees that I'm planting. But I
- 2:35Speaker 2: want to plant them because I want to do something
- 2:39Speaker 2: for somebody coming behind me, for my grandchildren. for other
- 2:44Speaker 2: people's young men, for other young people's children. And that's
- 2:49Speaker 2: why I've gotten to in my life. And that thing
- 2:51Speaker 2: that I saw online, it affected me so profoundly, man.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And the lady said, that's it, that's the end. She said,
- 2:59Speaker 2: a society grows great when old men plant trees in
- 3:03Speaker 2: the shade in which they know they will never sit in.
- 3:07Speaker 2: That's deep, man, that you can get to that point. Now,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I understand when you're younger. that that's not the mission
- 3:15Speaker 2: because you got to first get yourself under a tree somewhere.
- 3:20Speaker 2: You understand the whole thing in life is for somebody
- 3:22Speaker 2: to create some shade for themselves. Nobody wants to live
- 3:26Speaker 2: under the glare of the sun continuously. So you have
- 3:31Speaker 2: to do that. When you're younger, you're trying to, You're
- 3:34Speaker 2: trying to create a tree, man, that you can get
- 3:36Speaker 2: under the shade. You know, you want to build a
- 3:38Speaker 2: retirement plan for yourself so you can get under the shade.
- 3:41Speaker 2: But when that's done, what you going to do? And
- 3:44Speaker 2: I'm at that phase of my life, man, where God
- 3:47Speaker 2: continues to give me grace and mercy that will allow
- 3:50Speaker 2: me to act the way I've been acting and to
- 3:53Speaker 2: be able to shine the way I've been shining. And
- 3:55Speaker 2: I want to keep planting trees of which under the
- 3:59Speaker 2: shade I know I will never sit, but that somebody
- 4:02Speaker 2: after me can enjoy the shade of that tree. That's
- 4:05Speaker 2: just being a good person, man. And how good are
- 4:08Speaker 2: you going to be? I'm just asking the question because
- 4:11Speaker 2: we all have the ability to be good within our
- 4:14Speaker 2: own right. This ain't a conversation about rich people. This
- 4:18Speaker 2: is a conversation towards good people. And some of the
- 4:21Speaker 2: best people I know ain't rich at all. I swear
- 4:25Speaker 2: to God. To some of the best people I know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I can't even tell you how much they make. Some
- 4:31Speaker 2: of the biggest inspirations in my life have been from
- 4:35Speaker 2: common people who have done some uncommon things. They have
- 4:41Speaker 2: been my greatest inspiration. Martin Luther King was not a
- 4:44Speaker 2: rich man. He affected me profoundly, profoundly, man. Now, there
- 4:53Speaker 2: are some men who have made a success out of
- 4:55Speaker 2: themselves financially that have affected me, but my greatest effect
- 4:59Speaker 2: in my life was not by rich people. My fathers,
- 5:04Speaker 2: Slick Harvey, Lord have mercy. Poor his entire life. The
- 5:09Speaker 2: greatest effect on me ever. This dude made me, man.
- 5:14Speaker 2: If it wasn't for this dude right here, I'm not
- 5:16Speaker 2: here today. My father was that type of man. He
- 5:20Speaker 2: was really the best man I ever knew. I didn't
- 5:23Speaker 2: know a stronger dude than him. And when he passed,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it. Because the strongest dude I know,
- 5:29Speaker 2: when I got the news, I fell on my knees, man.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I remember the day I got the phone call. I
- 5:33Speaker 2: fell on my knees on my ranch in Texas. My
- 5:37Speaker 2: brother said, Daddy gone.
- 5:39Speaker 1: What?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Daddy? It was a totally different reaction than when my
- 5:43Speaker 2: mother passed. My mother, it just crumbled me because she
- 5:47Speaker 2: was dear to me. But my father, I just never
- 5:50Speaker 2: thought nothing would happen to this dude. I just really did.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But he planted some trees in my heart and in
- 5:57Speaker 2: my life of which he knew he would never sit
- 6:00Speaker 2: under the shade in. And he made me who I am.
- 6:03Speaker 2: That's who I'm trying to be. That's who you should
- 6:05Speaker 2: try to be. Plant some trees in which you will
- 6:08Speaker 2: never sit under the shade of. That makes you a
- 6:10Speaker 2: good person. Y'all have a great day. Hey, listen, y'all,
- 6:13Speaker 2: talk to God. He'd love to hear from you, okay?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Holler at you.
