Transcript
- Lucas: Velkommen til episode 118 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, ready for another verb? I've been practicing the ones from last week. Lucas: Oh yeah? Which one did you like best? Luna: I liked 'å skrive'. I wrote a little note to my friend in Norwegian yesterday. Lucas: That's awesome. Writing is a great way to practice. Today we have another action verb: 'å åpne'. Luna: Å åpne. That sounds like 'open' in English. Lucas: Exactly. It means 'to open'. Listen: å åpne. Luna: Å åpne. Lucas: Good. Now let's use it. 'Jeg åpner døren.' I open the door. Luna: Jeg åpner døren. So 'åpner' is the present tense. Lucas: Right. For regular verbs, you add -r. Let's hear you say it. Luna: Jeg åpner døren. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what if you want to ask someone to open something? 'Kan du åpne vinduet?' Can you open the window? Luna: Kan du åpne vinduet? Here 'åpne' is infinitive, right? Lucas: Yes, after 'kan' we use infinitive. Good catch. Say it. Luna: Kan du åpne vinduet? Lucas: Nice. Another useful one: 'Åpner du butikken?' Do you open the shop? Luna: Åpner du butikken? That could be asking about opening hours. Lucas: Exactly. Like if you're at a store and want to know when they open. Try it. Luna: Åpner du butikken klokka ni? Lucas: Great! Now let's imagine a little scene. It's your birthday and someone gives you a present. Luna: Ooh, a present! I love presents. Lucas: So you say 'Vi åpner gaven.' We open the present. Luna: Vi åpner gaven. That's sweet. Lucas: Say it with excitement. Luna: Vi åpner gaven! Yay! Lucas: There you go. Let's do a quick review. I'll say the English, you say the Norwegian. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: To open. Luna: Å åpne. Lucas: I open the door. Luna: Jeg åpner døren. Lucas: Can you open the window? Luna: Kan du åpne vinduet? Lucas: We open the present. Luna: Vi åpner gaven. Lucas: Perfect. You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Norwegian, we have a small ask. Luna: Yeah, these episodes take time to make, and we want to keep them free for everyone. Lucas: If you can, a couple of dollars a month at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo genuinely helps keep the show going. Luna: Even a small amount makes a big difference. We appreciate every bit of support. Lucas: Okay, now let's use our new verb in a mini story. Imagine you're at a cafe with a friend. Luna: Alright, I'm ready. Lucas: You walk in and it's warm. You say to your friend: 'Kan du åpne vinduet?' Luna: Kan du åpne vinduet? And your friend says 'Ja, jeg åpner vinduet.' Lucas: Exactly. Then the waiter comes and asks: 'Åpner vi butikken klokka ti?' Luna: Åpner vi butikken klokka ti? That's a question about opening time. Lucas: Right. And you answer: 'Ja, vi åpner klokka ti.' Luna: Ja, vi åpner klokka ti. Great. Lucas: So today we learned 'å åpne' and how to use it in different situations. Keep practicing, and next time we'll learn another verb. Luna: Tusen takk, Lucas. See you all next episode!
