Four hundred Navajo Code Talkers used their unbreakable language to turn the tide in WWII, saving countless lives — a secret kept for decades until 1968. Now, at 101, Thomas H. Begay, one of the last surviving heroes, is set to be honored in Phoenix, having served in both WWII and Korea. Their code, born from cultural ingenuity, was officially recognized in 1982 with National Navajo Code Talkers Day — but no museum yet exists to preserve their legacy, though plans are underway in Farmington, New Mexico.
