- 0:00Sheer we're doing truth voices like thunders, humble breath.
- 0:04The hill tempers sound like no other in the on the ground,
- 0:07we're fighting the fight, worrying our passion into this
- 0:11light challenge. In the north, we break off the
- 0:13rule. Please suck your glass.
- 0:15Let's shut up the fools rocking the fight with the angry
- 0:18refrain. Time to reclaim for sauce.
- 0:22Raise a boy. Hey, when you guys started Hill
- 0:30Tappers did with, did the social media start at the same time
- 0:33like when you guys started drinking craft beer or I don't
- 0:36remember, They're kind of two separate.
- 0:37Things, you know, it wasn't, I don't know what it was, you
- 0:40know, because we weren't like we're going to be the hill
- 0:42tappers and we're going to, we just started, you know, taking
- 0:45it on. But I just, I had some pictures
- 0:47of us and, and not long after we went on, on our first couple
- 0:50adventures, I made a logo of the two of us, you know, and, and
- 0:55this thing and it held the hill tappers and which I just, I
- 0:58pulled up the name. I was like, you, you like this
- 1:00name? And he's like, Oh yeah, awesome.
- 1:01So, you know, so I read this logo of us.
- 1:03I'm looking at the magnet of it on the fridge right now.
- 1:06And, and the logo was like, all of a sudden it was like, yeah,
- 1:10this is, we're the hill tappers. You know, we're going to go hit
- 1:13breweries and, you know, we're going to be a, you know, we're
- 1:15not going to try to be a thing, but we're, we're a thing just,
- 1:18you know, just us. But then I was just like, you
- 1:20know what, you know, it doesn't cost anything to open a second
- 1:23Instagram account, you know, so I made Hill Tappers so I didn't
- 1:26have to post all of our stuff on my personal account that way we
- 1:29kind of, you know, share it. So I just made a Hill Tappers
- 1:32Instagram account, which is the way to go because that's where,
- 1:35you know, pretty much all the real brewery people are.
- 1:38I found out. Yeah.
- 1:39And and what I didn't know we found you.
- 1:41Yeah. It's what I didn't know was the
- 1:43community I instantly kind of got us into by starting that
- 1:46account. So it wasn't something that we
- 1:48sought to do. We were just looking for a place
- 1:50to kind of put some of our pictures of the breweries we
- 1:53went to and we ended up, you know, being part of this larger
- 1:57thing and, and it's been great. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:01And and the same thing. And, and other people you've met
- 2:03and we've met. It's, we thought our thing was
- 2:06let's go to breweries and we'll create a website and we'll just,
- 2:09you know, put some stuff on our website and didn't realize what
- 2:11this social media thing was because I, I didn't even have a
- 2:14social media account before we started this.
- 2:16I was like, I'm not, I'm not doing it.
- 2:17Right. I know.
- 2:19Jeez. Yeah, I'm not doing it.
- 2:21And now it's like a it's a way of life.
- 2:23If you're doing in this, you know, this, this beer thing
- 2:25that. You guys you and pedal band and
- 2:28brew dude. And like I mean I love every
- 2:32post as this is just. Yeah.
- 2:34Yeah, and I love that. Everybody's got a different
- 2:36thing. Like people are like some people
- 2:37post what they're drinking at home right now and, you know,
- 2:39and take a picture and do the whole thing and that's cool.
- 2:41We don't do a lot of that. We do some of that.
- 2:43The more ours are more the adventure part, you know, when
- 2:45you tie in the podcast to some ours more when we visit
- 2:48somewhere. But when we can do anything we
- 2:49want, that's kind of our angle for it.
- 2:51And which is kind of probably kind of a lot what you guys do
- 2:54too, right? You kind of document the
- 2:56adventures. Right, exactly.
- 2:57You know, we like to first thing I got to get, you know, let's
- 2:59get a picture outside the two of us with a sign.
- 3:01And then you get a get a picture of the bar and then you get a
- 3:04picture of your flight. And then, you know, you'll get
- 3:06in there and, you know, talk about what your favorites were.
- 3:08You tag them. And that's probably how you guys
- 3:11found us was probably when we started tagging Cincinnati
- 3:14breweries because you follow them and that's probably you
- 3:17found us on social media. And what happens is for a lot of
- 3:20them is you start seeing the same people when we first got
- 3:23the same faces start showing up or the same account starts
- 3:25showing up. OK, well, they might be somebody
- 3:27let's hit let's hit lights like their stuff, you know, and then
- 3:31you know, and it's nothing to get it like Adm from someone and
- 3:33be like, hey, like you guys, what do you recommend there or
- 3:37what you know, if we're going somewhere.
- 3:38So it's just it's a it's a it's a cool community.
- 3:42It is Instagram. And what happens is when you,
- 3:44you know, when you start, you or any of the other people start
- 3:48like liking our stuff, that opens it up to another audience
- 3:51that, you know, they see you liked and they see it.
- 3:53And all of a sudden, you know, so we get all these, we'll get
- 3:56new followers, you know, from just, you know, doing things
- 4:00with other people and tagging them in it.
- 4:03All of a sudden we get new followers going there, which I
- 4:05don't keep track. I have no idea how many
- 4:07followers that. That's a great thing because
- 4:09we're all like, we all just want to have a, a good experience and
- 4:13and find a new beer and a new place and a new location.
- 4:16But I still I still want to have pictures as good as Armando's
- 4:20because. I like man.
- 4:23Doesn't everybody? Yeah, he's a.
- 4:24Pro and I'm I'm trying I'm. Hey Armando, thank you for the
- 4:28beers. Yeah.
- 4:31I absolutely love his work man, It's like.
- 4:34It's going to get he just bought himself a nice like a camera
- 4:37camera, like everything he's done on his phone.
- 4:40That thing looked great his. Phone.
- 4:41His phone, everything was his phone.
- 4:43Yeah, he's got him a nice. I saw him at Marvel Fox that
- 4:46he's got him a like a really nice camera.
- 4:48So I think his stuff will be even better now.
- 4:50OK. And it's to be, you know, the,
- 4:53the 28 years later, that new movie, they shot that entire
- 4:57thing on iPhones, on iPhones. Didn't even know that.
- 5:01Yeah, so. You know, it was funny.
- 5:04I don't know if he needed that camera.
- 5:06No, he was really good with the pictures then, you know, we're
- 5:07like like editing and filtering and doing stuff.
- 5:10Man, he was really, he's really good.
- 5:11But now he's, I think he's taking it to another level now
- 5:13with this. New camera.
- 5:14He's got a great eye, that's for sure.
- 5:16Yeah, well, Scott and I laugh sometimes because we'll be out
- 5:19taking pictures and then we realize we've been taking
- 5:21pictures together. Like we'll be like, shit, We
- 5:24haven't taken a picture of like, us in front of like the logo of
- 5:27the brewery. We're going in and we're taking
- 5:29all these pictures and wait a minute, we don't have pictures
- 5:32of ourselves. Neither one of us.
- 5:34We're not in any of the damn pictures.
- 5:35Hey, look, nobody wants to see. They want to see the beers in
- 5:38the place. OK, That's.
- 5:39True. That's it.
- 5:40That's it. They.
- 5:41Want to see the beers? Well, early on when we did it,
- 5:44nobody knew who's, Nobody knew the difference between Steve and
- 5:46I, because they're like, neither one of you guys are on the
- 5:48pictures. But we don't.
- 5:49We don't know who the hell either one of you are.
- 5:51Which one is which? Scott, Steve, you know.
- 5:57Have you guys, have you guys ever been mixed up or got just
- 6:00got the names wrong just for that?
- 6:03Elizabeth the pedal bound that when we were hanging out she got
- 6:07our names wrong. Tailspin.
- 6:10The whole time. Whole weekend, Tim and Brian.
- 6:12That wasn't even. It was.
- 6:14Whatever. You were you guys were a
- 6:16different name every time she called you by a name.
- 6:18That's right. But it, you know, it was
- 6:21freezing outside, so it was. Who remembers?
- 6:23Listen tailspin, anybody listen tailspin.
- 6:27You know beer fest is and you guys have been to more than we
- 6:30have. But I think Scott, you know, he
- 6:32he was saying it was huge and amazing, even though it was
- 6:36frigid cold, because they do it in March, March 1st and usually
- 6:40it works out. You know, it's like this is
- 6:42about the prettiest day you're going to get in March.
- 6:43This year. It was not.
- 6:45It was the frozen tundra of beer and they.
- 6:48Had a It was so cold. Set up the middle of the place
- 6:51and an airfield and they had a wrestling ring.
- 6:53These people up out there and like wrestling, like tights,
- 6:56just wrestling. I'm like you go, you crazy.
- 6:58Yeah, they were. They were right out there in it,
- 7:00man. Oh, it was so cold that you
- 7:02just. I couldn't think about anything
- 7:03else. Like there's no.
- 7:05I never there was. Nowhere to get warm.
- 7:07I never thought we'd leave a huge beer festival and go to
- 7:10three breweries, but yes, we hit that limit and we were still
- 7:14sober enough. We all piled into a Uber.
- 7:19We apparently it held. And he's like, I don't know if
- 7:21any we're like, you can do it. And we're, he's like piled in
- 7:25there. And yeah.
- 7:26And then we went to three Louisville breweries, which I'm
- 7:28always, you know, happy to host people at some Louisville
- 7:31breweries because they're, yeah, listen, Louisville, they've got
- 7:35per capita, they've got a fair amount of breweries, but they
- 7:38are so concentrated that once you get to 1, most of them, you
- 7:41can just like, you can practically just walk to all of
- 7:44them. We did, didn't we walk to one
- 7:46from the other? 1 was literally 3 blocks, but it
- 7:50was so cold. Even three blocks.
- 7:51People were complaining, but we also took an Uber from from the
- 7:56first one to the second one and that thing was like less than a
- 8:00mile. It was like just over a half
- 8:02mile, but I was like, I'm walking that.
- 8:04It was pretty rough, the cold weather, but you know, those
- 8:06were great bird visits. Have you guys kept up with the
- 8:10number of breweries you guys keep, stats or anything, or a
- 8:12list of like how many breweries you guys have been to?
- 8:14No. No, I haven't done that.
- 8:16I. Could start trying to, you know,
- 8:17keep track of that, but. And and to, you know, because
- 8:20we're fairly new to untapped too.
- 8:23Like we knew it was there and but then it was like, Oh my God,
- 8:25it's effort. But then finally we realized
- 8:28this does allow us a it helps me a tracking purpose, right?
- 8:32Because all time I'll come, you know, if it's been a while, I'll
- 8:35come back. I was like, I know I've had
- 8:36that, but I can't remember if I liked it.
- 8:38Yeah. So that's that's the real
- 8:41advantage to untapped which you guys since our Cincinnati trip,
- 8:44I've kept really good form on keeping up.
- 8:46On and that's the thing, just consistency.
- 8:48If you know, if you get away from it, it's hard to come back,
- 8:50but if you just do it regularly. But it is effort, it's and.
- 8:53Once you work through the quirks of it, because you know, it's
- 8:55not super intuitive for everything, but once you work
- 8:58through the process of it, yeah, it becomes a lot easier.
- 9:00Yeah, the hardest part, not the hardest part.
- 9:02The worst part is like when you when you go get a beer, like
- 9:05maybe it's brand new that day and it's not in Untapped yet.
- 9:08You can you talked about yeah, rye and you can add it.
- 9:13And I'm like, but and you can. And I'm like, wow, sometimes I
- 9:15get lazy. I'm like, you know, I'm just
- 9:16gonna skip that beer all together.
- 9:17I don't want to. I'll get another one.
- 9:20Yeah, there's, there have been some beers where it's like, you
- 9:22know what, I, I, you know, I don't want to necessarily go
- 9:25trash this beer so. Well, no, it's funny when you
- 9:28were talking about the untapped app.
- 9:30Yeah, you you really have to find what works for you,
- 9:33especially the rating system. I mean, yeah, you know, you
- 9:36don't want to trash breweries, but you also have to figure out
- 9:39what is your rating system on there and what aren't you going
- 9:41to go back to? So when you're rating a certain
- 9:44beer, you're going. All right, Is this a rating that
- 9:47I'm rating it that if I look on my tap, tap, am I going to have
- 9:52it again or not? And I know I have that home down
- 9:54to if I look at something, it's like, no, I'm not.
- 9:57I'm not going back to that beer. A lot of times there's beers I
- 10:00don't even raid. This guy, but yeah, hey, super
- 10:02generous, but I I'm on a tap. He's like, I didn't like that at
- 10:05all. And I look it up.
- 10:06I was like, you gave it like a three.
- 10:08Guy, if I was a teacher, nobody would fail.
- 10:10Yeah, I'm like, I'm giving beers like 2-2.
- 10:13And listen, it takes a lot for a beer to reach A4.
- 10:17You know I've never given a. 4. I think, I think a four, I've
- 10:21given like a four and a quarter or 4 1/2 is the top I've ever
- 10:24ranked a beer. I thought I only went to four.
- 10:26That's that's upper echelon like to four, yeah, 4 for me is upper
- 10:29echelon. That's a whole nother.
- 10:30Level, So listen, if it's above a three, that's great.
- 10:33Like 3 1/2. That to me is a great beer.
- 10:36A 3 1/2, I'm like awesome, but you got to like really hit it to
- 10:39hit a four. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:41And like Steve said, it's it's however you determine it in your
- 10:44head what your scale is within if you think 3 and a.
- 10:48Since I've started rating beers on Untapped, I've only rated one
- 10:51beer of five. Oh, I.
- 10:53Have some 4.5 OS. I have point 4.75 but I've only
- 10:57rated one beer of five. What was it that was the Great
- 11:01Lakes? You just sucking up to get them
- 11:02in Tennessee. With you.
- 11:04Hey Steve, my richest IVA. Yeah, Steve, say it loud.
- 11:08What was the what was the beer that you gave A5 to the only?
- 11:11Beer of one that I gave A5 to. Who's the one?
- 11:14In a minute we're going to look it up and make sure for accuracy
- 11:17purposes you know which one it is, though.
- 11:20I know, but we're going to use this as a selling.
- 11:22We have a drum roll. Yeah.
- 11:25Look, these guys brought their own intro music.
- 11:27Sure, they got a drum roll in there somewhere.
- 11:29Yeah, it's the Great Lakes. Juicy.
- 11:31Vivacious IP Juicy. Vivacious.
- 11:34Well, First off, great name. Yeah, better be good.
- 11:37Yeah, it was really, really, really, really good so.
- 11:40Well, I guess we'll have to go to the store and get that one.
- 11:43Yeah, yeah. Hey, guys.
- 11:45What's? That like.
- 11:47What's that like? So you guys have your own
- 11:49stickers. Obviously we've seen them around
- 11:51and they're really cool. Do you are you guys when you go
- 11:54to breweries, are you advocates for getting stickers from those
- 11:57places too? Like is that a point for you
- 11:59guys to make sure you get whatever where you go I.
- 12:01Still don't know what to do with them?
- 12:02Here's what you got from my brink, sitting right here on the
- 12:05counter. Here's here's Melaton.
- 12:07I didn't even know they had a sticker.
- 12:09Here's some idiot called a yeast infection Brewer.
- 12:14That's crazy. Trust me though, down it sounds.
- 12:18Worse than it is. Yeah, it sounds.
- 12:22Yeah. Yeah, I met those guys.
- 12:24They suck. What are they thinking?
- 12:27Look, you never. Know one day.
- 12:29How many breweries and Brewers started that way?
- 12:31So you never know. I mean, you may, yeah.
- 12:34I have a huge stack of brewery stickers and I have a fridge
- 12:37downstairs, but I don't have a bar downstairs.
- 12:39I'm gonna, I'm gonna work on building the bar and moving the
- 12:42fridge from the storage room to the finished room.
- 12:45And when I do that, I'm gonna start just plastering the fridge
- 12:49with them. Now.
- 12:49Yes. What happens when your fridge
- 12:50dies? Well, it's an excuse to go
- 12:52collect all those stickers again.
- 12:54Well, they're. Look behind me.
- 12:56Yeah, all my stickers. I have a sticker board.
- 12:58There you go. So yeah, it's like boot scout
- 13:01badges. Yeah, it's.
- 13:03Well, that's. A great idea.
- 13:03And yeah, I've got the issue where I plaster them directly on
- 13:06the on the fridge and I'm just going to that fridge is going to
- 13:08live forever. We're just going to go with me.
- 13:10Where I also heard this other thing people do is they'll buy
- 13:13magnets and put the sticker on the magnet and put them on the
- 13:15fridge so that you, if something does happen, you can pull them
- 13:17off. So maybe a little bit of work
- 13:19cutting and that kind of thing, but you can always take them
- 13:21with you. Well, here's the good news.
- 13:23I work at a company that actually has rolls of magnet, so
- 13:26I can just go down there and like snip off a huge thing and
- 13:29then just so I might do that, it ain't as pretty because it's
- 13:32only going to stick, you know, right where the magnet's stuck.
- 13:34But it is more efficient. Hey, Spence Lamont, I just
- 13:37noticed that. First off, amazing.
- 13:39Yes, Well, I mean, only looking for an excuse, right?
- 13:42And at breweries I love too, I get extra ones.
- 13:44And when I go out of town, I have to travel for work.
- 13:47So the first thing when I get to any new city or any city I've
- 13:50been to before is where's breweries I can go to because
- 13:53yes, I'm going by myself, but I've yet to not make a friend at
- 13:56a brewery. When you sit at the bar, you're
- 13:58going to eat, make friends with the beer tender, or you're going
- 14:01to make friends with three people sitting up there too.
- 14:04Happens all the time. I go to my place in Chicago
- 14:07called Crushed by Giants. It's in downtown, just one block
- 14:11off of Michigan Ave. on the 2nd floor.
- 14:13And you know, it's OK, but their logo and artwork's amazing and I
- 14:17always make a friend there. I have to go to Vegas a lot
- 14:19because I'm in the trade show industry and if you go to the
- 14:22Arts District, there's 6 now. I think hopefully I'm going to
- 14:25be going back next month. I think 1/7 was in the process
- 14:28of opening 7 breweries within 1/2 mile radius.
- 14:33Yeah, so you get one Uber and you could have access to 7
- 14:36breweries, which is very dangerous.
- 14:40He loves it when I text him because the first brew I'm like,
- 14:44this has notes of honey and it's blah blah blah.
- 14:47Get to the last brewery and it's like, this is ass.
- 14:51These people should be closed. This is the worst shit I've ever
- 14:54drank. It's true.
- 14:57And it stinks in here. Although I did it's funny the
- 15:00second on the. What's that smell?
- 15:02The bathroom? No, it's the beer.
- 15:05It's the beer. The last time to him there was
- 15:08only 5 breweries. Since then one more had opened
- 15:11which is the best tap room out there, and then now another one
- 15:14may have opened but when there was 5 I hit all five in one day
- 15:17by myself. Yeah.
- 15:19Nice. A person I met at the second
- 15:21brewery had a dog who was sitting at with him at the bar.
- 15:24And by the time I got to the fifth brewery, I was walking in
- 15:28and I turn over and I see the dog and I'm like, I know you,
- 15:32not the guy. I pointed to the dog and said, I
- 15:35know you. So he appreciated that.
- 15:37By the way, that dog, that last brewery was the only place I've
- 15:40been that's been on Bar Rescue. He must have fixed the pizza
- 15:43there. Jon Taffer must have fixed the
- 15:45pizza, but he did not do much for the beer.
- 15:47Oh boy. Yeah, he probably, yeah.
- 15:49I don't think it's got much to do with that part.
- 15:51It's clean lines, right? Clean.
- 15:54Make sure your glasses are clean and what you put in them is your
- 15:56problem. All right, our last of the six
- 15:58pack we bought for today, Brad will be enjoying a local beer.
- 16:02Goodwood is the brewery. This is the Bob.
- 16:05It's a blood orange blonde ale. We've had this multiple times
- 16:09pre gaming for Louisville Cardinal basketball games and
- 16:11I'm going to have the mile wide Linchpin hazy IPA a mile wide.
- 16:17We took Scott there. That's the second brewery we
- 16:20went to after Tailspin. We loved it.
- 16:23They're big on Ipas and they do a lot of hazies and stuff and so
- 16:27for us, we know when we go in there we're going to get an
- 16:29Ipas, but they're all pretty. Great.
- 16:31Yeah, and their menu's pretty big too, so if you don't want
- 16:34that, then you have options. That's true and plus they make a
- 16:38lot of Arrested Development references in their beer names
- 16:41and their can art and I'm a huge arrested for that fan.
- 16:44Oh they do. They literally didn't realize
- 16:46that if you watch Arrested Development, they literally on
- 16:49one other cans they have, it's called Missus Featherbottom and
- 16:52it's got it's got David Cross dressed up as Missus
- 16:55Featherbottom with his umbrella jumping off the staircase.
- 16:57That's a great show. Yeah, I I love that brew.
- 17:00And I had had some mild wide before because when I was going
- 17:02to Bowling Green, I would get it at, it's not Party Source, but
- 17:05Liquor, Liquor World or Liquor Barn and Bowling Green, and they
- 17:08would always have a bunch of mild wide.
- 17:09But to go there was really cool. I actually really like that
- 17:12place. By the way, I too am opening up
- 17:14a new beer. Here we go.
- 17:16This is New Holland the poet. It is American oatmeal Stout.
- 17:22Oh, nice. Oh.
- 17:23He's got a stout. It's very hot out.
- 17:25He's drinking a stout, but he is indoors well.
- 17:27It's I got the air air conditioning on in my house so.
- 17:30You know what to drink a stout. You might want to turn it up a
- 17:32little. More Yes, I know.
- 17:34Well, you know what? This has been sitting in my
- 17:35refrigerator for a little bit and I'm like, it's time to drink
- 17:38it, even though I know it's 95° out.
- 17:41May not necessarily make sense, but I'm inside.
- 17:43Where is New Holland? They are in Grand Rapids, MI.
- 17:47No, they're in Holland, in Michigan.
- 17:49OK. Yeah, Holland.
- 17:50Michigan is that Is that one you brought back from your trip
- 17:52last? Year it is not, Scott.
- 17:54I think this is one that I got from a beer train.
- 17:57But last year when I was in Holland, MI, I had some New
- 18:02Holland beer and it is very, very good.
- 18:04If you guys have not been up that way, have not, you should
- 18:06go up that way. There's a lot of great breweries
- 18:08out there. Nope, that's what I.
- 18:10Hear I would like. I think because we have always
- 18:13been a Florida Water vacation family, but I've, you know, now
- 18:19that the kids are gone and out of the way.
- 18:22I'd like to. I'd like to go up there.
- 18:23Along the lake and into Michigan and spend a few days there.
- 18:27But we'll see. Yeah, our our next bucket list
- 18:31brewery, like it's like on par with like Great Lakes is
- 18:34founders. Yeah, Yeah, that's one of those.
- 18:38All right. Must get to places, so you know,
- 18:40yeah. Do they sell that in Tennessee?
- 18:42They do. They do.
- 18:44You can find plenty of ponders in Tennessee.
- 18:46Good. And a lot of KBS, like all the
- 18:48variants. I don't know if it's all but a
- 18:50shit ton of variants, which I love.
- 18:52Yeah, they're awesome. I just opened up and I got this
- 18:55like Flynn's Burger Pilsner, some kind of import it.
- 18:59Looks like 1 you would have brought back from Germany.
- 19:00With you, I know when I go to the German section like in the
- 19:03in the liquor store anymore, I'll do the untapped and I've
- 19:06had 98% of everything they've got in there.
- 19:09So to find one I hadn't had is pretty remarkable.
- 19:11Oh wow. What do you think about
- 19:13Oktoberfest? Season guy who's been to Germany
- 19:16should know Oktoberfest is actually in September, correct?
- 19:19So I mean. It is, absolutely, yeah.
- 19:21Which makes sense, so. We're only we're about 6 weeks,
- 19:245 weeks away from September, believe it or not.
- 19:27No, no, I'm no about 8. Weeks I'm on, man, Yeah. 8
- 19:29weeks. I forgot about July buddy.
- 19:31I was right. I was going right into August.
- 19:33Actually, actually, yeah, we're about 8 1/2 weeks.
- 19:37Yeah, well, my our schedule is booked through July, so I've
- 19:40already skipped over July. By the time this airs or if it
- 19:43errors, because, you know, I might honestly, I'm thinking
- 19:46bury this in the backyard. You're going to send us a cease
- 19:49and desist? We have so much to contribute.
- 19:53This is, this is, this is all we do.
- 19:55We're such amateurs. When Oktoberfest season rolls
- 19:58around, what's the go to for the hill tappers when it comes to
- 20:01Oktoberfest? You got some.
- 20:03Favorites, yes. Look, and 1st off, I'll say
- 20:05this, no matter where you are, I must stand by this.
- 20:08All right? Standing by this, no matter
- 20:10where you live, if you want to get a good Oktoberfest beer, no
- 20:14matter what you think of the beer company Sam Adams,
- 20:17Oktoberfest is delicious. Buddy, you, you and I are
- 20:21lockstep on it man I agree. I was hoping to say I.
- 20:23Stand in line. I am one of the first people to
- 20:26stand in line at the grocery store each year to get a six
- 20:30pack when they come out on the first day that is out.
- 20:33Last year here I was at Publix the very first day that they had
- 20:37Oktoberfest and that was like August 28th or something.
- 20:40And I'm like, I don't care. I don't care how early it is.
- 20:43I'm going there and I mean it's. Available pretty much anywhere,
- 20:47but let me tell you, as just a mass produced Oktoberfest beer,
- 20:51you can't go wrong with it. It's pretty good.
- 20:53It's the OG. It is.
- 20:55It is. Solid.
- 20:55We got a buddy, Calvin, who goes.
- 20:57He'll buy a case of it at the end of the season or a couple of
- 21:00cases so it gets him through like the spring and the summer
- 21:03until it comes back out again. Nice, well played.
- 21:06Locally here in Louisville, we have, you know, obviously
- 21:09because this is how we started. So we have a ranking we may
- 21:12disagree on #1 we kind of go back and forth on #1I tend to
- 21:18think that the number one local Oktoberfest beer is by a place
- 21:21called Monica Brewing. Panic makes great beers, but
- 21:25their Oktoberfest is called Kaiser von Schnitzelberg, great
- 21:29name. And I think that is probably one
- 21:33of the best. And they they can it so you can
- 21:35buy it locally in Cannes. And we also think that the
- 21:40Gallant Fox, which is a place we were hoping that we can take you
- 21:42guys soon. Gallant Fox has one called Fox
- 21:45Tober Fest. It's number one.
- 21:47That's number. One that's his favorite, it's #1
- 21:51so those are great up in the Cincinnati area.
- 21:54I think Braxton's October Fuel is delicious, really good.
- 21:59Fall city. You're familiar with fall city
- 22:01beer? Back back when we were growing
- 22:03up, fall city meant cheap, terrible beer.
- 22:05But then what happened was they became a brewery when the, you
- 22:10know, the fad came along. And now Fall City makes some
- 22:13really great beers. They have one called Autofest
- 22:16Otto Fest and that was definitely a top beer for us.
- 22:20And then both Against the Grain and Goodwood, both Louisville
- 22:24breweries have amazing Oktoberfest and Donka Shane by W
- 22:276th out of Lexington. It's a little bit mild for an
- 22:30Oktoberfest, but super drinkable.
- 22:33So if you want like a lighter, more drinkable Oktoberfest,
- 22:36excellent. Well, last year I I found and
- 22:40Oktoberfest that I did not think was possible, that I liked a
- 22:43little bit better than Sam Adams founders had a barrel aged
- 22:48Oktoberfest that was about 10% and it was off the charts.
- 22:54And I found it really through happenstance.
- 22:57Scott and I were going to be doing, we were going to do a
- 23:00Oktoberfest episode where we're going to go out and find
- 23:03different variations of Oktoberfest beer.
- 23:05Yep. And I'm at the beer wine store
- 23:07down the street from my house and I look over and I'm like
- 23:09founders Oktoberfest. And all of a sudden I look and
- 23:11I'm like barrel aged and, and when we have founders on, we
- 23:16talked him about it and I think they came out with it in like
- 23:192021. And Scott, didn't they say they
- 23:21were going to do like a new variation this year?
- 23:24I don't think they're going to come out with that particular
- 23:26one. But man, if you guys see it, I
- 23:28know you were talking earlier about barrel age being sort of
- 23:31hit and miss that thing, that thing.
- 23:33My God man, that was one of my favorite beers of the year.
- 23:36It really was all hit. Wow, Yeah.
- 23:39Like that beer was that beer for you.
- 23:41Steve was only surpassed by that vibacious juicy, right?
- 23:44If I remember. Yeah, at least, at least for it.
- 23:46Was like my second favorite beer of the year, it was that good.
- 23:50Okay, yeah, we'll definitely be on the look of it coming August,
- 23:54September. Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 23:56It's so weird. You know what I hate about
- 23:58Oktoberfest coming out early and I like Sam's Oktoberfest.
- 24:01I really like their summer ale too.
- 24:03Those are the two I like from them.
- 24:04The summer ale's really crushable.
- 24:06It's got that lemon zest too. I love that.
- 24:08And and the Oktoberfest follows. I'm just like, can we just get a
- 24:11little later in the season? Yeah, cuz listen, it may come
- 24:14out in August, but I'm still, it's still 100° in August.
- 24:19I'm not ready to shift to the fall until October.
- 24:23Itself, Yeah, I'll buy it, but then I'm not going to drink it
- 24:26for a few weeks, you know, at least.
- 24:27Yeah, there's going to be. In September.
- 24:29Yeah, you got to save some because basically it's kind of
- 24:31like Christmas, you know, the Thanksgiving, Christmas and all
- 24:34of a sudden, boom, it's over. You get, you get October maybe
- 24:3820th and you're not seeing hardly any Oktoberfest left out
- 24:42there. You know, you may still see it
- 24:43in in some restaurants, but you're definitely not going to
- 24:46see hardly any of it in the stores anymore.
- 24:48Do you guys train transition And it's they run parallel a little
- 24:51bit, but there's a crossover between Oktoberfest beers and
- 24:54the pumpkins. The pumpkins come out a little
- 24:56bit later, as they should. They should come out much later
- 24:59too. Thank you, guys.
- 25:00Pump more October. Yeah, drink a lot of pumpkins,
- 25:04but I think we'll all agree. And if anyone listening doesn't
- 25:07know, Party Source in Northern Kentucky, right across the river
- 25:11from Cincinnati and in Newport, KY is the greatest liquor store
- 25:17on the plant that I've ever been to anyway.
- 25:19But they have a build your own 6 pack aisle that is unparalleled
- 25:23that I've ever seen. And I went in there around
- 25:26September and like half of that aisle was just Oktoberfest
- 25:31beers. And I was so excited.
- 25:33I ended up building a 12 pack because I just wanted to try
- 25:36everyone's beer. And we're huge fans of Wooden
- 25:39Cask. And I've never seen them have an
- 25:42Oktoberfest beer. But they and I don't usually go
- 25:45for the pumpkin ale's too much. It's just a little too much
- 25:47spice for me versus an Oktoberfest beer.
- 25:50But they had one. And since we love Wooden Cask
- 25:52because what's going to happen? I bring all those back and then
- 25:54he comes over and then we just get like I have like a flight
- 25:57and we just kind of pour half glass and we split beers to try
- 26:00them and we ended up trying their pumpkin beer and it was,
- 26:04it ranked high for us. It was really good.
- 26:06So I'm a little bit more open to it now.
- 26:08Since then, my daughter, because she knows I love Wooden Cask and
- 26:12knows I love Oktoberfest, she found a Wooden Cask Oktoberfest
- 26:16beer. She bought me a six pack and
- 26:17brought it to me and I'll say this, Wooden Cask Oktoberfest
- 26:21ranks high. Once again.
- 26:22They do not let us down. If anyone goes to the Cincinnati
- 26:25area, please give Wooden Cask a try.
- 26:28I, I think they're, in fact, I was in about two years ago.
- 26:33They also have the tap room on Newport on Levee in in addition
- 26:37to their other location. And I was in there and I was
- 26:39talking to the guy and I said, I think you guys are one of the
- 26:43least talked about great breweries in this area.
- 26:46And he looked at me and he said our owner knows that.
- 26:49He said he just stands on what we do.
- 26:51He said he doesn't worry about it.
- 26:52He feels like the brand is good enough where people are going to
- 26:55come in and they're going to get the beer and we're going to
- 26:58continue on. And I'm like, yeah, I mean, they
- 27:00don't get talked about that much up there.
- 27:02I don't. But what happened?
- 27:03We didn't go there. We, we made a choice look,
- 27:08because they're not far from darkness.
- 27:10And we, we all love darkness. We've, you know, we kind of
- 27:13taken them on. So we go there as much as we
- 27:15can. We go to Braxton and Darkness.
- 27:17But right between Braxton and Darkness is wooden cast.
- 27:20So, you know, next year, if we're going back up there, we,
- 27:23we need to not miss wooden cast. Yeah.
- 27:26Well, we went into the new West next location because we wanted
- 27:30to knock that off our list because we hadn't been there.
- 27:32Sure. Yeah, Wooden Cask was on on that
- 27:35whole thing. And next year we will.
- 27:37And I want to I want to also say one other thing about darkness.
- 27:40I'm starting to be convinced after being there twice that
- 27:43darkness is going to become on that Listerman level for me of,
- 27:48yeah, I don't know where else in this area I'm for pound.
- 27:52Then I'm going to find the most consistent good beer.
- 27:56And I feel like darkness is going to be on that level for
- 27:59me. About one or two more times I go
- 28:01there, I'm gonna be like, Yep, Yep.
- 28:02Yeah, look, I love when I go to a place to find the big
- 28:06breweries. Awesome.
- 28:07But find the little hole in the wall and I can still, look,
- 28:10they've, you know, they haven't really expanded that much, so I
- 28:12can still consider them a bit of a hole in the wall.
- 28:14They're small, but man, they produce great stuff, you know,
- 28:18and they have improved the facility since I've started
- 28:20going there. But yeah, they're just on point.
- 28:22Yeah, that was my first time it. That will be one of those ones
- 28:25that's going to be on the list every time we go if.
- 28:27We can their their prize is like charming.
- 28:30It's it's got some charm to it being a little place.
- 28:32Yeah, and we, you know, we, we center everything.
- 28:35Not everything, but when we go there, there's always a ball
- 28:37game or two involved. So they're near the ballpark,
- 28:40which is convenient as well. So we do that and do the
- 28:42ballpark, which is what we did this past trip too.
- 28:45So can't wait to get back. And she's been a couple Times
- 28:47Now. And by the way, I know I thought
- 28:50I'd had, I was going back to look on my untapped app on the
- 28:54Sully scale, the Spitz Lamont scale, whichever one I am, I've
- 28:58had their pumpkin ale. Yeah, yeah, I've had their
- 29:00pumpkin ale. I've rated it about two years
- 29:02ago and it looks like I liked it.
- 29:06So I've had their pumpkin ale, but doesn't look like I've had
- 29:10their. I have not had their
- 29:12Oktoberfest. But you were drinking the new
- 29:14Porter earlier. Right.
- 29:15Yeah, he's got it right now. Yep, I had that about three
- 29:19years ago and liked it. Yeah, yeah, the listen, First
- 29:22off, wooden cast a beautiful can art, you know, it looks prestige
- 29:26it yeah, you know, it's really nice.
- 29:27And when I saw their their Oktoberfest one, it had the the
- 29:31white and blue checks and still had their emblem on there.
- 29:34I mean, just it just it's a beautiful stuff.
- 29:37So but yes, so yes, you enjoyed their the wooden cast
- 29:41Oktoberfest, yes. Yes.
- 29:42No, I haven't had it. I have not had.
- 29:44I have not had their October. I have the pumpkin though, yeah.
- 29:46I've had the pumpkin out. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:47Which was? And I'm and I'm.
- 29:49Yeah. And I'm hit and miss on pumpkin
- 29:51ales. When we were talking about
- 29:52earlier, you know, last year when I stood in line to get the
- 29:57Sam Adams, their pumpkin beer was sitting that next to it.
- 30:01I did not get it because I've had it before and I'm not the
- 30:04biggest fan of it. I probably would get it again.
- 30:07I'll tell you who does a really good pumpkin beer there now and
- 30:11they serve it throughout the year.
- 30:13Scott knows which one I'm talking about here in Nashville.
- 30:15Blackstone does the best pumpkin beer that it's a pumpkin ale.
- 30:21They do the best one that I've. I think I've probably one of the
- 30:24best ones I've ever had. Interesting.
- 30:25I'll tell you when it comes out, we'll send you send you a couple
- 30:28and it's just simple. It's not anything crazy or it's
- 30:32got a little spice to it. And dude, it's it's again, not
- 30:35again. But I've given a few fives on on
- 30:38tap. That's a five.
- 30:39I've given that. Really.
- 30:40Five? Wow.
- 30:41Yes, and I love it's. A bit of a spicy kick, but it's
- 30:43not, it's not that. It's not that pumpkin spicy kick
- 30:46that you get. There you go.
- 30:48This is way, way, way over here where it's really annoying and
- 30:52you don't want to drink of any of it or more of it.
- 30:55It's just right in my opinion, where you really enjoy it and
- 31:00it's just a good brew. Yeah, I don't want to be
- 31:02drinking a carrot cake. Hang on.
- 31:04No. I would drink a carrot cake.
- 31:07I take that back. I love carrot cake.
- 31:08I would drink. That I would drink a carrot
- 31:11cake, Sir. So my, so my question, so my
- 31:13question for the Hill tappers is simply this because we were at
- 31:16Fayette La Forest and I was leaving and you said you have an
- 31:19open invitation to come join us the next time you're coming up
- 31:23through town. Yes, Sir, which there's going to
- 31:25be a time between now and the end of the year that I plan to
- 31:29come to your city and hang out for a day or two.
- 31:33Listen, I can't I can't say that you're going to love the.
- 31:35Listen, the breweries here, they're not as grand as they
- 31:39might be, and they. Don't have to be.
- 31:40Tennessee. But you know what, there's some
- 31:42people doing some good work here.
- 31:43And if you if you don't mind sleeping on the couch, I got
- 31:46couches. You are welcome to come stay
- 31:49here for free and we will take you around and show you the
- 31:52sights. We'd love to get your opinion on
- 31:54some local breweries. Yeah.
- 31:55The question is, where are we going to go?
- 31:57Like if it's me or anybody else that's coming there, what are
- 32:00like 5 brewery recommendations that you have, Sir?
- 32:03This is insane that you said that because I literally made
- 32:06this list called the top five breweries in Louisville.
- 32:10Right, here we go. And I made, I made an initial
- 32:13list and I sent it to Brad and Brad said, well, what about
- 32:16this? I was like, you're right.
- 32:18And so I changed it because he was correct.
- 32:20So right now, and, and this is a mix between listen, I like
- 32:24there's vibes and there's beer. Sometimes vibes like Rhine
- 32:29Geist, you get amazing vibes. So if the beers are just OK, it
- 32:34still might be #1 because the vibes and the OK beers equal
- 32:38greatness. And then sometimes the vibes may
- 32:40be OK, but the beers are so good, boom, they hit the
- 32:43ranking. So #5 for us would be Mile Wide,
- 32:47which Scott joined us at when he was up here for Tailspin.
- 32:50They're kind of the basement of this old industrial plant that's
- 32:53a bar upstairs. And it used to be a Jillian's,
- 32:56which it was sort of like a Dave and Buster's back in the day.
- 32:59Yeah. Yeah, you had Jillian's.
- 33:00Yeah. We had a.
- 33:01Jillian's upstairs, it was like a performance area, like a stage
- 33:04and live bands would play. And what happened was Jillian's
- 33:07left. And now since it's become like a
- 33:08pool hall upstairs, but the entire downstairs that you from
- 33:13the back, it's mile wide and it's a beautiful place.
- 33:15They don't have a good outdoor space.
- 33:17But it's like the bottom level of a silo, yes.
- 33:21But they got good food. They do some great pizzas and a
- 33:24lot of Ipas, but it's really good.
- 33:26It's a mile wide. #4 on the list would be Monica and honestly
- 33:32Monica could move up higher. Monica does great beers.
- 33:35They're definitely when you walk in it definitely more of a
- 33:37restaurant vibe. You have to be seated unless you
- 33:39just sit at the bar. But they got still the
- 33:41chalkboard of beers they're doing.
- 33:43They rotate regularly, they brew hard and they got like there's
- 33:48look whether it's good or bad, fully committed flavorful beers.
- 33:52OK, so highly recommend and their their food is amazing, but
- 33:56it's like high end, it's kind of expensive gastropub German beer,
- 34:00a German food, excuse me, that's really good #3 is gravely,
- 34:04gravely brewing. Honestly, we love it's a cool
- 34:07place. And also Scott went there and
- 34:09that was the last place we went. The bar, the entire back bar is
- 34:12made of old stereo components like from the 70s and 80s
- 34:17speakers and stereo faces and everything up and everything
- 34:20they do is music themed. They rotate a lot.
- 34:23They've got great beers, cool space.
- 34:25They're going to move, which everyone's really upset about.
- 34:28They're keeping that location for brewing only, but they're
- 34:30like, no, this is a great space. So we'll see.
- 34:32But they're beers great #2 Gallant Fox.
- 34:36Gallant Fox is the first brewery we went to together.
- 34:39They're they've opened a second location out in Bullock County,
- 34:42which is about 10-12 miles down the road.
- 34:46But their first location, they're currently expanding.
- 34:49So it's going to have a full kitchen.
- 34:51It doesn't now, but their beers are on point.
- 34:54It's a cool space. Their beers are amazing and they
- 34:57rotate regularly. And even if it's returning
- 34:59beers, you know, they're good. So hats off the Gallant Fox.
- 35:03Always, always going to be closed.
- 35:04Gallant. Fox was a the first Triple Crown
- 35:07winner of the Kentucky of the Derby Preakness in Belmont.
- 35:10Literally the. Nice fox, that's what the name
- 35:13comes from. Yeah, enough shit they.
- 35:14Playoff of that theme quite a bit.
- 35:16But then number one and look, I, I know you guys stopped in and
- 35:19it may not have been, you know, it may have been just OK for you
- 35:22guys, but we, we just love hanging at a rye and part of
- 35:25that one, a rye. That's where you guys stopped in
- 35:28here. Oh yeah, I like a rye.
- 35:31Look, the guy there, he used to work it against the grain and
- 35:33anyone out there who's you can buy against the grain in cans
- 35:36and a lot of states around the area against the grain is
- 35:40decent. But they kind of got locked in
- 35:42on their beers. And this guy used to be like the
- 35:44main brewery there and he got tired of being locked in.
- 35:46He wanted to cook. So he and another guy left and
- 35:49they found another financier and the three of them became owners
- 35:52in a place called Arai. And this guy, his name's Tyler
- 35:56Martin, he goes by T Mart. He cooks and when he makes an
- 36:00amazing here and it runs out, I'll say, hey T Mart, when are
- 36:03you going to bring back this beer?
- 36:04He says I don't know, I may never bring it back.
- 36:07I was like oh, but it's so good. He's like, I'm just going to
- 36:09make something better. And that's his mindset.
- 36:12He's like I'm always going to. And every time he puts something
- 36:15new on the board, if it's not on the board yet and we're there
- 36:18and we're there definitely every Friday after work, that's where
- 36:21we go. He'll come out, we'll be sitting
- 36:22there enjoying a beer and he'll come over with like 3 small
- 36:25glasses. I was like, this isn't on the
- 36:27board yet, but try this and we'll try it.
- 36:29And son of a bitch, it's always good.
- 36:32I mean, it may not be the a five star beer you've ever had, but
- 36:36like he just did a Mexican logger and I'm like, I'm really
- 36:39picky about my Mexican loggers and it was so different from
- 36:43anybody else's. It's true, you know, so.
- 36:45Great time here for him though. Yeah.
- 36:47And everybody that works at the, I think 3 out of the four people
- 36:51that work the bar are owners. We're invested, OK, yeah, are
- 36:57proud of their product and they will tell you about the product
- 36:59and or you know, try this, try that.
- 37:02They're just, they're really invested in it.
- 37:04So yeah, it's a good mix of vibes and just I just love their
- 37:09effort and their beers are super tasty.
- 37:11So right now, Rye is our number one place to go for beers.
- 37:14And you took me there. You took us all there after
- 37:17Tailspin as well. And was it the head Brewer or
- 37:21the guy that was at Tailspin you introduced this to and then he
- 37:23came and showed up at a rye later on?
- 37:26That's your head Brewer. Two of the three owners were at
- 37:30tailspin. It was one of those birthdays.
- 37:32So he's. Right.
- 37:33He was like, I'm just getting really drunk.
- 37:35He got a tattoo on site. They were doing drunken tattoos
- 37:38on site and he just got one and then they showed up and then
- 37:42like the the main, the older guy who's like more the finance
- 37:46here. He was working the bar that
- 37:47night. Poor guy.
- 37:48Wow, those two drunk asses showed up doing that.
- 37:52So yeah, it's but yes, he was one of the guys that you met
- 37:55that day it. Was great.
- 37:56That was. I'll always remember because it
- 37:57was the night I touched Nick's hair.
- 37:59If you remember that, there's a picture of me touching Nick's
- 38:02hair and my face is like. This is awesome.
- 38:05The fact that you got his hat off was.
- 38:07And then when we went back, when Steve and I stopped through a
- 38:10few weeks ago, whatever, 2nd May, and we sat at that same
- 38:13table and I was like, it's not the same.
- 38:17Long table there. Yeah, that stuff.
- 38:19I was like, oh, there was a there's a spot.
- 38:21Main spot, like I said, we leave.
- 38:23I leave work early on Fridays. Just it's like what time do they
- 38:26open? That's when I'm leaving work
- 38:27because I work 2 minutes from there.
- 38:29He works 5 minutes from there. Oh yeah, and great spot.
- 38:33And yeah, you know, our home brewery, listen, we love they've
- 38:36been going through some issues and they're working it out, so I
- 38:39won't mention them. They're out here closer to where
- 38:41we live, but where we work, that's that's where we go on
- 38:44Fridays now. It's just OK.
- 38:46Hey, when we were at a Rye when we met you guys recently,
- 38:50somebody had hit the outdoor staircase or something.
- 38:53Is that back in back in service now or no?
- 38:56Shit no, and I'll tell you why because they caught the guy who
- 39:00drunkenly 3 in the morning, hit a guy on the intersection,
- 39:03jumped the curve, barely missed 2 trees and their their outdoor
- 39:07section is their roof. You take steps up and it's
- 39:10literally a rooftop space and they just nailed the stairs
- 39:14directly. Wow.
- 39:16And knocked them back like 3 feet.
- 39:17So took it all. So structurally it's unsafe.
- 39:19And of course they, they ended up catching the guy, but they
- 39:22had no insurance. Now it's like, yes, we have to
- 39:26work. You know, our insurance are
- 39:27going to cover it, but we don't, we have to pay like 20% and
- 39:30it's, it's a lot of damage. So they're working on fixing it
- 39:33still. But I was like, oh, but during
- 39:36the summer he said, are you kidding me?
- 39:37Nobody goes and sits on the roof when it's 100°.
- 39:40Yeah, that's true. It's like if we get it fixed by
- 39:42September, we'll be good because that's when people want to
- 39:44settle. It's fair.
- 39:47It's 100% fair. You don't want to be up there
- 39:49now. Hell no.
- 39:50You don't want to be on a patio now little on a rooftop.
- 39:52And a shout out to a ride. They're going to celebrate their
- 39:552nd anniversary on July 12th, and we will be there.
- 39:59All right, all right. All right, cheers to our my.
- 40:01Cheers to a ride. Drinking out of their glass
- 40:03right here. Two years, You guys have told a
- 40:05lot of funny stories along the way, but have you got anything
- 40:08any, any funny stories in any of your beer travels or brewery
- 40:11travels that you would like to share?
- 40:14It could be one, it could be 100.
- 40:16I mean, I know of a couple that we were at, but you might have
- 40:17some others. What do you got?
- 40:20Well, I mean, I remember us walking up the stairs to
- 40:24Reingeist in the most recent visit.
- 40:26I don't remember just not talking about that.
- 40:30You mean the guy that was making fun of everybody for not getting
- 40:33a flight and then he couldn't make it up the flight of stairs
- 40:36with his flight? First of all, when I ordered a
- 40:39flight, I was chastising everyone because you should all
- 40:41order a flight, OK? But then I didn't know that we
- 40:44were going to go upstairs, so I did not intend to carry the
- 40:47flight up the flight of stairs. Can I just, can I just tell you?
- 40:50It's a lot of stairs. On your story about this.
- 40:53Yes. I years ago because I decided
- 40:57I'm not even going to try to go up them stairs on a flight
- 41:00because I will do what you did. And I and I followed everybody
- 41:04up there that day. I did not even know you were
- 41:07talking crap until Liz on our podcast.
- 41:10Oh, he was. Started mentioning it and I'm
- 41:12like, did he really? I didn't even hear that.
- 41:14Yeah. So I didn't even know that
- 41:16happened. I didn't even hear you.
- 41:17All I heard was the crash. I didn't hear you were saying
- 41:21other things about you guys aren't blah blah blah.
- 41:24First off, I was returning crap. Okay, I wasn't just talking
- 41:29crap. People were chastising me,
- 41:31taking stuff up. And I was that way but.
- 41:34I was trying to give back as good as I was taking it and I
- 41:37was so close I was approximately 6 steps from the top.
- 41:42You're almost there. And then one shoe caught a step
- 41:45and then. Yeah, I just remember hearing.
- 41:48I just remember hearing a crash and thinking to myself, Yep,
- 41:52that's why I don't do that. You never, Tom, you never went
- 41:54down. A glass was never broken.
- 41:56We just had some some liquid going down the stairs.
- 42:00Yeah, it was. I mean, it was like a $12.00
- 42:02loss to me. I did.
- 42:04No glasses broke and I did not my myself did not face plant so
- 42:09I'll take that as no no. You tried to save it.
- 42:12I was, I was literally the guy behind you and I saw it and you
- 42:14were you were, you were trying to save them and you did
- 42:16everything you could and it just.
- 42:18You could have been. You could.
- 42:20Hold. You could have been charged with
- 42:22alcohol abuse at night, that's true.
- 42:25Nobody was going to turn you in. That's true.
- 42:27So then I just go to the rooftop bar and I'm like, I'll just take
- 42:30a pint of that. Look, it's, I mean, I just asked
- 42:35about you brought it up. You told the story.
- 42:39That was good. Bring it up Well, yeah, all
- 42:42right. I I planted the seed and then we
- 42:44anyway we have any. Funny stories, Yeah.
- 42:49Here's the thing. Surely Funniest stuff we barely
- 42:51remember. Well, that's.
- 42:51Fair. That's fair from the times you
- 42:55got lost by the time Steve got lost from Great American
- 42:59Ballpark to March 1st. That was that.
- 43:01Listen, when we joined you guys in Cincinnati, it was after the
- 43:05Reds game at March 1st and you all told the story.
- 43:08But I still can't get over the fact that he took an Uber for
- 43:11less than like less than 1/2 mile and he's from there.
- 43:16You could almost beat the. The building from where he was
- 43:19standing, right? No excuse.
- 43:21Yeah, cool. Cool.
- 43:23Hey, she's she's like we've already.
- 43:24Hey, I'm just, I'm owning it. I have no excuse that night
- 43:27except that like I, like I said on the Cincinnati Takeover
- 43:31podcast, sometimes every once in a while in life, you lack common
- 43:36sense. And I lacked common sense that
- 43:39night. And I just finally said, you
- 43:42know what, I don't give a crap at this point, just giving it to
- 43:45where I need to go. And that's what I'm doing and I
- 43:47don't care. Well, look, if your friend
- 43:48wouldn't have taken off like this, would have never happened.
- 43:54He knows the city better than me and I'm like, I'll just meet him
- 43:58there. That's me.
- 43:59I was like, dude, it's, it's Fountain Square.
- 44:02I mean I I'm not from Cincinnati, but I could find
- 44:04Fountain Square from the. I know.
- 44:07I was like, I was waiting. I got no response.
- 44:09I was like, well, he's probably there already.
- 44:11I'll just go ahead and go on. He's probably waiting for me.
- 44:13But in my defense, any other time that we needed to find
- 44:17places or do things or we've been in and out of traffic, I've
- 44:20always been there. It was.
- 44:22On it was no problem. It's just a funny little tale.
- 44:25So that is my one. OK, I'll.
- 44:27I'll give you I'll give you a partial story.
- 44:30All right, so kind of last summer we went to our first ever
- 44:34beer fest, OK. And it wasn't tailspin.
- 44:37It was the live in about 10 miles outside of downtown
- 44:42Louisville in a place called Jeffersontown.
- 44:43They call it J Town. So J Town has a beer fest and we
- 44:47hadn't been because the year before we would have been into
- 44:50it, but I was out of town for work.
- 44:51But this year we were there. So we're like, yeah, let's do
- 44:53it. And once again, this is a place
- 44:55where you pay 1 price, they give you a cup this big and you just
- 44:59sample, sample, sample. Well, we'd never been to a beer
- 45:01fest. We we didn't know how to pace
- 45:04ourselves. And honestly, we even our home
- 45:08brewery, it was happening in the backyard of our home brewery out
- 45:10here in J town. So we even Dumber than usual, we
- 45:15pregamed a beer fest, which is the dumbest thing.
- 45:18So anyway, so let's. Go.
- 45:21I posted like a video of background.
- 45:23If you go back on the hill tappers on Instagram, go back
- 45:26about a year and you'll you'll see you can see the progression
- 45:29in the video. But anyway, so it didn't end
- 45:32well. We don't remember our wives
- 45:34picking us up. I especially don't remember it
- 45:37went poorly. But what happened was we, we
- 45:39wouldn't go back in our brewery for like for like over a week
- 45:43because we were afraid of what we did because we know when it
- 45:46ended. We went into the brewery, but we
- 45:48don't have much memory on it. There was.
- 45:50There was a point early on in the night after we had gone,
- 45:54it's like we're racing to these tents, like what are we doing?
- 45:57Let's get another. Let's get another.
- 45:58And he says we are not doing this right.
- 46:03I was already drunk when I said. That and it was yeah, we we, we
- 46:07didn't and it that. Was So when we finally went back
- 46:10to the brewery over a week later, we just felt like we
- 46:13couldn't show our faces because I didn't know what happened,
- 46:15right, Right. I went in there and one of the
- 46:18regular beer tenders was there and I went up.
- 46:20I was, I was like, listen, I got to apologize.
- 46:23I don't know. I don't remember much.
- 46:25You know, I did, I even close my tab.
- 46:27You know what, blah, blah, blah. He's like, no, he's like, he's
- 46:30like, no, you, you know, I wouldn't.
- 46:31I mean, I knew you were, you know, pretty drunk, but I, you
- 46:34know, but you didn't do anything embarrassing, blah, blah.
- 46:36I was like, oh thank God. It was all good after the second
- 46:39time you closed your tab. That's right.
- 46:41I did try to close it twice apparently, because I talked to
- 46:43another beer tender and they're like, yeah, But he said no, he's
- 46:46like, but I'll tell you, there were two like, like there were
- 46:49two guys that tried to come up the back steps and one of them
- 46:53was arguing with the security that I, you know, that, you
- 46:57know, I'm a mud club member, blah, blah, blah.
- 46:59And the other guy fell in the bushes.
- 47:02We still. Don't know who that was.
- 47:03And I'm sitting there like OK, and I go back to the table.
- 47:07I was like it was. Us.
- 47:08No, it wasn't. It was us.
- 47:10No, it was. I don't remember, it really was.
- 47:14Arguing with the guy about I'm a mud club member I should be able
- 47:18to come up the back steps. But when he mentioned looking at
- 47:21falling in the bushes I looked in my phone and sure enough I
- 47:25was drunk. But I was saying enough that
- 47:28when Brad fell in the bushes I instantly took a picture of him
- 47:32being helped out by somebody. So Oh no you were fine.
- 47:37Not like these drunk assholes who did this at the back door.
- 47:40And to this Danny, I haven't told him it was.
- 47:43Us, it was shit. It was you guys.
- 47:47He was funny about that, this drunk.
- 47:49As he never goes to look at the video footage because it was us
- 47:52it. Happens.
- 47:53It does happen, it's fine. I'm sitting there like.
- 47:55Ha ha, yeah. What are those jackasses doing?
- 48:00I'm glad we we were. We were well behaved.
- 48:04Well, look about that. Like no matter how drunk you
- 48:06are, like you have that reaction to go for your phone, like, oh,
- 48:10that's that's funny video. I can make that work.
- 48:13I didn't know he'd fallen into the bushes till he met like you
- 48:16did and I started looking at my pictures.
- 48:19I had no picture of taking that photo but there it was.
- 48:22I knew I had to take a picture and it's some he looks all
- 48:26disappointed in the bushes and this guy we've never met is
- 48:28helping him out. There's you not helping taking
- 48:31the picture. Well, yeah, once again, Gen.
- 48:33X. It's also you would have no
- 48:36proof if you hadn't, so there you go.
- 48:39Brad, was there any evidence the next day when you got up that
- 48:42your clothes looked like they had fallen in the bushes?
- 48:44Nope. No, actually I think he
- 48:45remembered falling the. Bushes, I do.
- 48:47It was fast and it happened and there was a guy right there and
- 48:50he said hey buddy, come on back. Come on back.
- 48:54You're probably wondering, well, what made you fall in the
- 48:56bushes? Nothing.
- 48:57He just fell. Nothing.
- 48:58Just tripped. It happens.
- 49:00Well, no. Because I was trying to talk
- 49:01this asshole out of. Remote club let us just I don't
- 49:06want to walk around front. Just let us back up and back
- 49:09into bushes. Club members, come on now.
- 49:12So that that's our, that's our worst story.
- 49:14And now it's out there. I think, I think it's good if if
- 49:17you need us to cut that later, we're not gonna.
- 49:19So I wouldn't. Expect you to.
- 49:23Before we go, before we close this out and see you may have
- 49:26something else, but Brad, can we get a George W?
- 49:30On the spot. You can give it a minute, we
- 49:32could edit the pause. You're pretty good at it though.
- 49:34Well, I don't think there's any need to edit because we're going
- 49:38right into talking about some of these transformerations and
- 49:42these these brewerations at these local beer
- 49:45establishmentations and it's good stuff.
- 49:48Hey, hey, George. I fooled you once.
- 49:50You fool us once, shame on, same on.
- 49:53You fool us twice, shame on. You're not going to fool us
- 49:56again. I.
- 49:58Love it. There's going to be a short.
- 50:00Thanks. That's going to be a YouTube
- 50:02short, man. I appreciate the time.
- 50:04He's got it. You can have any time you want.
- 50:08For my next act. I love it.
- 50:09You're so good at it. Anyway, Steve, you got anything
- 50:12else before we wrap up here, buddy?
- 50:13You know what, I can wrap it up. OK.
- 50:16Anything you guys want to talk about before we got out of here,
- 50:18we didn't we didn't touch on or you want to get out there or
- 50:20promote or. I don't think necessarily.
- 50:24Listen, we got to get you guys the Louisville, you know for
- 50:27coming. It's going to be like game day.
- 50:30And any excuse to go to Cincinnati, we're there and
- 50:34looking forward to coming back to Nashville.
- 50:36Any opportunity to hang out with you guys because, man, we do it
- 50:39well. Boom.
- 50:40Yeah, we do. We talk about these stories
- 50:42forever and ever and ever. I mean, when we come to
- 50:44Louisville and when we come together, I know Steve might be
- 50:46at there before I do, but when we come together, can we mix in
- 50:48some whiskey? Because you guys have some good
- 50:50distilleries here in town too. Are you serious?
- 50:53Listen, we're, you know, our whole travel.
- 50:55Industry. The Bourbon Trail what as we
- 50:59mentioned. So if you guys don't mind.
- 51:02Bob Dylan's Bourbon has an amazing place called The Last
- 51:05Rep. Yes, that's an old church and
- 51:07gym and it's it's the ultimate place to hang out.
- 51:10So yeah, we definitely go make that part of our visit.
- 51:12OK, put that on the list. So yeah, I'm a big, big, huge
- 51:15fan of all that. So yes, please.
- 51:17Steve is too. Guys, let's raise our beers.
- 51:20Boom. Here's to the hill tappers.
- 51:22To the Hill Tappers, thanks for joining us on our Little Dumb
