- 0:05Speaker 1: Now it's time to catch up with Country Weekly, where
- 0:08we check out news and gossip from that world of
- 0:11country music. I'm your host, Ken Dawkins, and I will
- 0:14be reading from various sources found online. As a reminder,
- 0:19Radio I is a reading service intended for people who
- 0:21are blind or have other disabilities that make it difficult
- 0:25to read printed material. We'll begin with the first article,
- 0:28dated April twenty eighth from Holler dot com. First Up,
- 0:33Ann Wilson invite six year old fan on stage for
- 0:37birthday surprise. Kentucky's Ann Wilson gave a six year old
- 0:41fan one of the best birthday surprises she could ask for.
- 0:45This is during her Saint Louis show this weekend, Wilson
- 0:48invited Mary Tyler on stage to give her a special
- 0:51present and lead a venue wide Happy Birthday sing along.
- 0:55The Still Do crooner was headlining the Stiffele Theater as
- 0:58part of her Stars to Her as the Stars hit
- 1:02maker finally recalled. Before bringing her out, Wilson came across
- 1:05a heartwarming video of Mary Tyler sharing her excitement ahead
- 1:09of her sixth birthday party. Mary Tyler wanted it to
- 1:12be themed around Wilson's hit single My Jesus, Wilson explains
- 1:17to the packed out crowd, I don't know how many
- 1:19of you all have seen this video, but there was
- 1:21this precious little girl that posted this video. Her parents
- 1:24posted it actually, and it went viral, and it was
- 1:26her talking about inviting me to her sixth birthday party.
- 1:30Then Wilson puts the original video of Mary Tyler up
- 1:33on the screen. This year is my golden birthday party
- 1:36and I want to have a Let me tell you
- 1:38about my Jesus Birthday party. After asking Mary Tyler, I
- 1:42wonder who she's named after. After asking Mary Tyler if
- 1:46she could be brave and join Wilson on stage, the
- 1:49Kentucky native kindly outlines how as she can't be present
- 1:52at her party, she thought she could make it up
- 1:55to her by giving her the fan moment to cherish forever. Well,
- 1:59we wanted to make your birthday special because I can't
- 2:01come to your birthday party because I have a show,
- 2:04but we're going to celebrate it. Here. Is that okay?
- 2:07It's a moving video that captures the wholesome, joyful, and
- 2:10faith filled spirit that always permeates Wilson's shows with Mary Tyler,
- 2:14smiling jubilantly throughout the entire clip. Wilson is currently in
- 2:18the middle of her widely popular Stars tour with The
- 2:21Rain and the Rear View. Singer songwriter set to bring
- 2:24her catalog of soul stirring anthems across the Pond this
- 2:27summer for the first time, and eagerly anticipated performances lined
- 2:31up at UK's Long Road Festival and Big Church Festival.
- 2:35And I just learned that she'll be at the New
- 2:38Gaton Park on July fourth. That's in Lexington, of course.
- 2:42Next Kenny Chesney shares why he never approaches making albums
- 2:47in the same way during a rare live stream celebrating
- 2:51his twenty twenty album Here and Now. Kenny Chesney touches
- 2:54on his creative process when crafting a new record. Chesney's
- 2:58musings here feel particularly pertinent given his first solo single
- 3:02in the best part of two years, Carry On, which
- 3:04arrives Friday amid rumors of a new album on the horizon.
- 3:08The Take Her Home hit maker always creates vibrant, rich
- 3:11tapestries through his albums, with Chesney weaving various threads from
- 3:15his time on tour and in the Islands. What makes
- 3:18Chesney's projects stand out, at least from this writer's perspective
- 3:22at Holler dot Com is the way in which each
- 3:24thread carries an unmistakable sense of Joyevos. When discussing Here
- 3:29and Now, the Knoxville Natives Billboard two hundred chart topping
- 3:32album during a covid era a live stream, Chesney is
- 3:35asked about his overall creative approach. He reflects, I think
- 3:39every time I release a record, the human experience that
- 3:41life is is the inspiration for my record. I got
- 3:45asked a question yesterday, you know, how is this record
- 3:48different from many in the past that you put out?
- 3:50And I would like to think that they're all different
- 3:52because I'm at a different place in my life. He expands,
- 3:55I've had different life experiences on the road, off the road.
- 3:58I've traveled that people. Really it really inspired me and
- 4:01influenced my life. So if you do your job right
- 4:04when you go to the studio, a lot of people
- 4:06and characters and life experiences make it onto your record.
- 4:09I believe that we did this with Here and Now
- 4:11for sure. Now on the surface, Here Now treads familiar
- 4:15waters for Chesney, with the no shoes, no shirt, no problems, crooner,
- 4:18painting vivid vignettes of spending time with friends on his boat,
- 4:22Beautiful World, Guy's Name, Captain, Live Wire, Show, Nights Here
- 4:26and Now and we Do and heartbreak knowing you and
- 4:29you don't get to. But beneath these broader brushstrokes there
- 4:33are rewarding subtleties that showcase how on Here and Now
- 4:36Jesney has evolved as an artist and person since A
- 4:39Song for the Saints, and in the same way on
- 4:42Chesney's subsequent release Born. There are similarities, but at its
- 4:45heart the record comes from a slightly different viewpoint. It's
- 4:49all Chesney, but A Song for the Saints is permeated
- 4:51by a deep sense of grief about Hurricane Irma and Maria,
- 4:55and the celebratory moments feel more hard fought. On Here
- 4:59and Now, the mood is different, with Jesney determining to
- 5:01squeeze every ounce of life and the midst of turmoil
- 5:05of quarantine, well Borne finds the five time CMA and
- 5:08ACM Entertainer of the Year enjoying a lighter, more untethered joy.
- 5:13We're excited, therefore, with news of Chesney's new single, carry
- 5:16on to see how his voice and the lens through
- 5:18which he perceives the world have adjusted on his next
- 5:21studio album. Elsewhere in this live stream, Chesney adds more
- 5:24weight to his earlier point, I don't approach any project
- 5:27in the same way. You know, the last record I
- 5:29did before here and now that I didn't see coming
- 5:32was the Hurricane Relief Record after Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. Anyway,
- 5:38judging by the snippet we've heard so far and carry On,
- 5:40which drops May fifteenth, they have a good reason to
- 5:43look forward to the first taste of Chesney's Born follow
- 5:46up album. Whatever the core sound and message might be,
- 5:49one thing is certain. Jesney will be purely, unashamedly himself
- 5:54and that is what will make it unique. Now we
- 5:58run over to Country Now with the first article dated
- 6:02April twenty seventh, Mattie and Tay close final chapter as
- 6:06duo with emotional last show. Matti in Tay's chapter as
- 6:11a duo has come to an end. In December, the
- 6:13pair shock fans when they announced plans to part ways,
- 6:16and this weekend marked the final tour stop together. Closing
- 6:19out their run as a duo. The two documented their
- 6:22last show on social media, sharing a video featuring emotional
- 6:25moments from the night, including a final singalong to their
- 6:28Chuck topping hit Die from a Broken Heart. Surrounded by
- 6:33our family, friends and all of you, we closed a
- 6:35chapter this weekend that will forever be grateful for. They wrote,
- 6:39thank you to everyone who traveled to be there with us.
- 6:41The emotions were high in the best possible way. They
- 6:45ended their message by reflecting on what's ahead, writing fifteen
- 6:48years of memories together and now we get to cheer
- 6:50each other on in our new sessions of life. Nothing
- 6:53but Love and Light Ahead. Mattie and Tay first broke
- 6:56into country music back in twenty fourteen with a Girl
- 6:59in a Country Song, a sharp, clever response to the
- 7:02rise of bro country. Their twenty fifteen debut albums Start Here,
- 7:06featured fan favorite singles like Fly and Shut Up in Fish.
- 7:10In twenty twenty, they scored their second number one hit
- 7:13with the emotional ballad Die from a Broken Heart. Their
- 7:16most recent project, Love and Light, was released in May
- 7:19of last year. When they initially announced their split, Mattie
- 7:23marlow Font and Taylor die Kerr revealed the decision was
- 7:26completely amicable but heartbreaking. Kerr shared that she planned to
- 7:30step back from music to focus on her growing family.
- 7:33While Font revealed plans to move forward with a solo career,
- 7:36they also left the door open for future collaborations, of course,
- 7:40hinting at the possibility of shows or projects down the road,
- 7:43while emphasizing their friendship remained strong. We're leaving this ended
- 7:48so well because you know, we might make another record
- 7:51one day. Font told people we might go do some
- 7:54tour dates one day. Even though we're not going to
- 7:56go on this journey as Mattie and Tay together, we're
- 7:58still walking and doing lifetime together outside of it. She
- 8:01later added, I'm really excited to just be best friends
- 8:04and nurture our friendship and not have to worry as
- 8:07much about the work, and still get to raise our
- 8:09babies together. None of that changes. Ahead of their final show,
- 8:13the duo reflected on the moment is what a beautiful
- 8:15blessing this chapter has been. Next, avery Anna surprised with
- 8:21ACM Award for New Female Artists of the Year. Over
- 8:26the weekend, avery Anna reached a major career milestone, earning
- 8:30her first ever ACM Award during her set at the
- 8:32Lone Star Smokeout Festival in Texas. The emotional moment unfolded
- 8:37surrounded by a packed crowd of fans and was met
- 8:40with strong support from fellow female country artists online. In
- 8:44the midst of performing, her duet partner Sam Barber appeared
- 8:47on stage next to the excited and shocked songstress. His
- 8:51voice rang clear through the speakers as he proudly stated, Hello, everyone,
- 8:55I've had the amazing honor to tell Miss Averyanna that
- 8:57she is the winner of the ACM New Female Artist
- 9:00of the Year. Cheers erupted from the crowd, and Anna
- 9:04fell to the ground and covered her face in absolute awe.
- 9:08Once she was able to collect herself, she took a
- 9:10moment to hug her family members while another voice read
- 9:14off the list of impressive female acts who have previously
- 9:17won the same award. Today, Averyanna joins the ranks of
- 9:21Ella Langley, Megan Maroney, and Lady Wilson. She is this
- 9:25year's ACM New Female Artist. The video shared online shows
- 9:29tears of joy following down the Arizona Natives face as
- 9:33she coveted trophy as presented to her. She stepped up
- 9:36to the mic and delivered a moving speech celebrating the
- 9:39journey that has led up to this moment and the
- 9:41people who have been by her side through it all.
- 9:44Everybody that I love dearly is on this stage, and
- 9:47this is my family right here, and my manager David.
- 9:50He's fought this fight with me this whole time, and
- 9:52I'm just so grateful for this. I'm so honored, she reflected.
- 9:56She continued with even more gratitude for God as well
- 9:59as all the fans who have rallied around her, supported
- 10:02her and cheered her as she lives out her dreams
- 10:04each day. Shortly after the excitement started to sync in,
- 10:08she again took to Instagram, this time sharing a heartfelt
- 10:11post to her story that reads, I cannot believe this.
- 10:14I thank you all so much from the bottom of
- 10:17my heart. Thank you, thank you, Thank you. ACM Awards.
- 10:21This mark Danna's first year ever being nominated for an
- 10:23ACM Awards. She was named in the New Female Artist category,
- 10:27alongside Mackenzie Carpenter, Dasha, Caroline Jones, and Emily Ann Roberts.
- 10:33As soon as the news began to spread it Averyanna
- 10:35had claimed the title. The kind messages began pouring in
- 10:37on social media pages. Tons of fellow female acts jumped
- 10:41on the comments section to celebrate her win, Megan Maroney wrote,
- 10:45so happy for you. Mackenzie Porter said yes, the best
- 10:48of the best. Caitlin but said it ah, so happy
- 10:51for you friend, and Carly Pierce praised her, saying yes girl.
- 10:55Ella Langley wrote, among so many other messages love. Fellow
- 11:00nominee Emily Ane Roberts even share the news to her story,
- 11:02championing her fellow rising star. Roberts wrote, such a fan
- 11:06of yours and this is so deserved, sister, congratulations. It's
- 11:11safe to say that Averanna had a weekend to remember.
- 11:14Along with claiming her first ACM Awards, she made her
- 11:16main stage debut at Stagecoach twenty six on Friday. Sam
- 11:21Barbara also joined her in singing their standout collaboration Indigo.
- 11:26Averyanna is currently in the midst of her Girl of
- 11:28Constance Sorry Tour, which runs through May ninth. Fans can
- 11:32see Averyanna take the stage as a performer during the
- 11:34sixty first ACM Awards on Sunday, May seventeenth. The show
- 11:39will be streaming live exclusively on Prime Video for a
- 11:41global audience across more than two hundred and forty countries
- 11:45in territories at eight pm Eastern and that's from the
- 11:49MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Next, Laura Elena
- 11:55reflects on full circle moment after opening for Jason Aldeen
- 11:58and Luke Bryan at soul Out Sandford Stadium. Laura Elaine
- 12:03is reflecting on a full circle life and career moment
- 12:06after opening for Aldine and Brian at Sandford Stadium. Calling
- 12:09the night one where all the stages of my life
- 12:11collided at once, the Georgia native took the stage inside
- 12:15the home of the Georgia Bulldogs in Athans Athens, Georgia,
- 12:19performing in front of a sold out crowd of sixty
- 12:21three thousand fans, with both her family and her husband's
- 12:25family cheering her on. She described the moment as especially meaningful,
- 12:29not only because of the massive crowd, but because of
- 12:31how many chapters of her life came together in one night.
- 12:35Alongside a series of photos from the Milestone performance, Elena
- 12:39shared just how special it felt to have her loved
- 12:41ones there supporting her, including her daughter Benny Dahl. For
- 12:45the first time, I had all my family and my
- 12:47husband's family watching me on one of the biggest stages
- 12:50I've played in my career. I'll never forget looking out
- 12:52and seeing my big brother with his wife and baby,
- 12:55standing next to my husband holding my baby, she wrote.
- 12:58Elne also reflected on the d deeper meaning of sharing
- 13:00the stage with Aldan and Brian, who played a key
- 13:03role early in her career. After her run on American
- 13:06Idol The Top It All Off, I opened up my
- 13:08big brothers in music, Jason and Luke. The first time
- 13:12I stepped off the Idol stage, they took me on
- 13:14my first ever tour. They have both taken me out
- 13:16on tour more than once since then. Turns out all
- 13:19stages lead to Georgia. Last night I celebrated the ones
- 13:23you stand on and the ones you live through. I'm
- 13:25a happy girl, the all my Eyes, I'm Sorry, the
- 13:29all my Exes. Singer was part of a historic night
- 13:31at Sanford Stadium, performing in front of one of the
- 13:34largest crowds of her career. Alongside Aldan and Brian. The
- 13:38evening also featured surprise appearances from Brantley Gilbert, who co
- 13:41wrote All Dean's number one hit Dirt Wrote Anthem, as
- 13:44well as Georgia Bulldog's head coach Kirby Smart, who joined
- 13:47the Georgia Natives on stage During the show, Lauren Elaina
- 13:51continues to climb the charts with her Chase Matthews duet
- 13:54and recently released her first song of twenty twenty six
- 13:58with Raining Whiskey. Next, ingrid Andress gets real about fear
- 14:03of commitment on vulnerable new track Tattoos. Ingrid Andress is
- 14:08letting her guard down in a vulnerable new track titled Tattoos.
- 14:12Tapping into a personal struggle, the songstress delivers the story
- 14:15centered around fear of commitment, both in relationships and in
- 14:19her everyday life. She penned the haunting track alongside a
- 14:23group of standout Nashville songwriters including Jordan Schmidt, Chase McGill,
- 14:27and Emily wiseband Together, the creatives use something as simple
- 14:32as a temporary tattoo to reflect the weight of something
- 14:35much deeper. Tattoos begins with Andrews testing out a temporary
- 14:38tattoo and admitting how overwhelming it felt to even consider
- 14:42making the artwork a permanent part of her body. This
- 14:45image sets the tone for the true confession that follows.
- 14:49She sings, I drew a flower on my ankle to
- 14:51see how it felt by the time it faded. I
- 14:54thought I'd probably want something else. It's hard to imagine
- 14:57being so confident in something to make it so permanent.
- 15:00What if I hate it and can't take it back.
- 15:03There's a lingering intensity that comes from how emotionally conflicted
- 15:07Andress is over what she knows she can give to
- 15:09a partner versus the promises she can't get herself to make.
- 15:13The honesty hits hard as the song continues into the
- 15:16chorus with lines about commitment making her nauseous. That's why
- 15:20I can't do commitment because it makes me nauseous. Wish
- 15:23it was different, But if I'm being honest, I don't
- 15:25like to break things, so I won't make a promise.
- 15:28It's got nothing to do with you. Think I think
- 15:31of it often me getting married. You're a good option,
- 15:33but forever is scary. It's got nothing to do with you.
- 15:36It's got nothing to do with you. I don't even
- 15:39have tattoos. Andrews sings with rawness in her vocals. The
- 15:43multi platinum selling singer songwriter reflects on the personal message
- 15:46that runs throughout the track, recognizing that she has a
- 15:49habit of walking away before things get too serious. Tattoos
- 15:54a song about commitment issues and the weight of choosing
- 15:57something permanent like a tattoo. She explains, wrote the song
- 16:00to express a familiar internal struggle of mind, wanting to
- 16:04be fully present and dedicated in a relationship while simultaneously
- 16:08grappling with the anxiety of forever more. New music is
- 16:13set to drop throughout the year as Andrews gets closer
- 16:15to finalizing her third studio album, which will follow her
- 16:18sophomore album Good Person and debut Ladylike, both co produced
- 16:22and co written by Andrews. Ingrid Andres has also recently
- 16:26announced her low Key Sessions to her The track is
- 16:29set to launch May eighth in the Cincinnati area and
- 16:31wrap up May fifteenth in Minneapolis. Now it's time to
- 16:36take the water slide over to saving country music. With
- 16:39the first article dated April twenty eighth, Charlie Crockett surprise
- 16:44drops new album called Clovis a new album from Charlie
- 16:49Crockett and dropped at eight pm Central on a random
- 16:53Tuesday night. Well why not, or, as Charlie Crockett set
- 16:56on Instagram about thirty minutes after the surprise release, you
- 16:59can drop a freaking record whenever the freaky want and
- 17:02what's more important to me is dropping all this really
- 17:05good art right now. Saving Country Music has previously reported
- 17:09that before his last album, Age of RAM, was released
- 17:12earlier this month, Crockett had already been working on the
- 17:15next one. Sources say he's been in Clovis, New Mexico,
- 17:18recording at the Norman Petty Place that Buddy Holly helped
- 17:22make famous, as well as Shooter's Place in La La Land.
- 17:26Apparently Crockett couldn't wait for the world to hear the results.
- 17:29At first glance, the worry was that maybe the surprise
- 17:31album Clovis had been accidentally or maliciously leaked. After all,
- 17:36the release date said April twenty fourth, despite it being
- 17:39released on April twenty eighth. The copyright was also not
- 17:42Island Records or Son of Davy, his previously known labels,
- 17:46and Hey who released records on a Tuesday. Anyway, Saving
- 17:50Country Music is confirmed from numerous sources that Charlie Crockett
- 17:53is no longer with Island Records, the major label he
- 17:56signed to in order to release his Sagebrush trilogy. Age
- 18:00of the Ram, released on April third, was the final chapter.
- 18:04Crockett's currently not signed to any label, though Clovis is
- 18:07attributed to the label ten Dollars Cowboy. Crockett is also
- 18:11currently self managed and apparently is willing and able to
- 18:14do what he wants whenever he wants to. As for
- 18:18the album itself, it is a fourteen song release produced
- 18:21by Crockett and co produced by Shooter Jennings. The Norman
- 18:25Petty studio where it was recorded, as one of the
- 18:27most legendary studios in American history, though decidedly more off
- 18:31the beaten path compared to Sun Studios in Memphis or
- 18:34Nashville's RCA Studios. Norman Petty, who recorded all of Buddy
- 18:39Holly's biggest hits. Roy Roberson, Buddy Knox, a Young Whalen Jennings,
- 18:43Jimmy Gilmer, and Fireballs and Moore also recorded there back
- 18:47in the fifties. In the nineteen eighties, the studio was
- 18:50preserved in its mint nineteen fifties condition. People can still
- 18:54visit the studio in the East New Mexico town, not
- 18:56too far from the Texas border, but it's rarely used
- 18:59as an actor studio, making Crockett's Clovis unique. Expect a
- 19:03proper album review for the release once it's been digested here.
- 19:07That's saving country music. Even people very close to Crockett
- 19:11were taken by surprise by the release. He'd wiped his
- 19:14Instagram account about a week previous and then posted a
- 19:16photo of a man in prison reaching for the set
- 19:19of door keys. Apparently Crockett was feeling caged, and now
- 19:23he's been set free. Currently, the album can only be
- 19:26found on Spotify. The track list The Hallelujah Trail, Down
- 19:30by Law, One Eyed Jack, Image of a Woman, Eagle
- 19:34and the Crow Top Hand Country Music, Last Night at
- 19:37the Alamo Clovis, Don't take your Guns to Town, Albuquerque Lights,
- 19:42I Ain't riding any more, honky Tonk Philosophy, and Whalen
- 19:46Rides Again. Next, Red clay Strays reveal new album and
- 19:52twenty twenty six tour dates. What do you do with
- 19:55a band that doesn't fit well into any genre and
- 19:57whose sound feels too old and elemental to American roots
- 20:01for most modern ears. What do you do with songs
- 20:04that yearn to inform, uplift, and inspire as opposed to
- 20:07simply entertain. What do you do with a band that's
- 20:09unwilling to play the industry game and don't know how
- 20:11to be anything other than their true, authentic selves. Conventionally,
- 20:16there's no place, no plan, no path for a band
- 20:18like this, But as Saving Country Music says, the Red
- 20:22Clay Strays defy all of these conventions to the point
- 20:25where they're now one of the biggest bands in all
- 20:27of roots music and are being nominated and winning mainstream
- 20:30industry awards while remaining decidedly outsiders. The ranks of independent
- 20:36musicians are filled with odd balls and unusual cases who
- 20:39don't fit the model. But the lesson and the inspiration
- 20:42to take from the Red Clay Strays is that if
- 20:44you stay true to yourself, there's no ceiling. On June fifth,
- 20:48the Red Clay Strays will release their new album, simply
- 20:51titled Grateful, produced once again by Dave Cobb. It won't
- 20:54be a gospel album in its entirety, as some had rumored,
- 20:58but as the debut song Demons in Your Choir backed
- 21:01by a gospel Choir illustrates, it will have a strong
- 21:04spiritual component. Moment of Truth was a big album about
- 21:08having faith in dark times, looking to a higher power,
- 21:10says frontman Brandon Coleman, and made by these moments focused
- 21:14on realizing those dark times that you were having to
- 21:17have faith through which made you who you are. You
- 21:21made it through when you didn't think you would, and
- 21:22now we're at a point where we're grateful. Looking to
- 21:25God in whatever situation you're in. Is a denominator in
- 21:28all of the albums. The title of the album's literal
- 21:32meaning to us at the moment in our careers, ads
- 21:34bassist Andrew Bishop. We're grateful for how we came out
- 21:37of made by these moments and what we have now.
- 21:40Though we don't have a full track listing for Grateful
- 21:43Just yet, it's confirmed to include eleven tracks, including previously
- 21:46released songs People, Hayten, and If I Didn't Know You.
- 21:50It's available now for pre order on vinyl as well
- 21:53as pre save on Spotify and Apple Music. Along with
- 21:56the new album, The Red Clay Strays have also announced
- 21:58new tour dates for this second half of twenty twenty six.
- 22:02Openers include Brent Cobb, Whyaetflores, Sierra Ferrell, Muscadine, Bloodline, The Revivalists,
- 22:07Sweet Talk and others, and The Red Clay Strays will
- 22:12be in Kentucky at Louisville or in Louisville at the
- 22:15Bourbon and Beyond Festival on September twenty sixth. Now we
- 22:19move along to the Boot dot com with the first
- 22:22article dated April twenty ninth, Keith Urban answers the question
- 22:27on everyone's mind about his yacht rock album Keith Urban.
- 22:31Fans won had one big collective question after the singer
- 22:35shared he was working on a yacht rock album. The
- 22:37question was, huh. It was such a surprising left turn
- 22:41that Urban had to specify, I'm not kidding. When we
- 22:44first talked about his new music at the country radio
- 22:47seminar with the Boot, Urban officially announced that project, called
- 22:51flow State. This week. Along with the announcement, he answered
- 22:55the big question why yacht rock and why now? Seems
- 22:58like Keith Urban did some dig into the origins of
- 23:01yacht rock and related to how the genre rebels and
- 23:03resists the darker parts of life. The origins of this
- 23:07kind of music was, in certain ways a reaction and
- 23:09an antecdote to the stresses of the time. He writes
- 23:12in a statement, its sole mission and soul mission is
- 23:16unchanged to bring us together and remind us that life
- 23:19is happening now, the eternal now, and we have far
- 23:22more in common than not. Urban continues, I hope wherever
- 23:26you hear this album you can feel the exhale comfort
- 23:29and optimism. These songs originally were written for and by
- 23:33In other words, he was craving the salt water infused
- 23:36sunny escapism that's been yacht rock's hallmark since the its
- 23:39origins in the late nineteen seventies. Urban didn't recently mention
- 23:43his divorce, but it's fair to speculate that his highly
- 23:46publicized split from Nicole Kidman might be one of the
- 23:49stresses that pointed Urban in this musical direction. It's been
- 23:53seven months to the day since Urban and Kidman's divorce
- 23:56news went public. In that time, they have been fodder
- 23:58for the rumor mill. Daily anonymous sources have come forward
- 24:02with every tidbit, real or fabricated about their post divorce lives.
- 24:06Gossip hounds have romantically linked Urban to not one, but
- 24:09two much younger singers with little connection and even shakier
- 24:13heart evidence. Urban unofficially announced his album Flow State on Wednesday.
- 24:18It will arrive on June twelfth. The eleven track project
- 24:20is mostly covers of classic rock yacht rock songs, including
- 24:25collaborations with Little Big Town, and John Mayer. Flow State
- 24:29includes just one title track or I'm Sorry. One original track.
- 24:32It's a song called we Go Back, which features soft
- 24:35rock star and Doobie Brothers lead vocalist Michael McDonald. Two
- 24:39of the tracks came out alongside Urban's album announcement. One
- 24:42of those is the original we Go Back, a wistful
- 24:45song about reconnecting with the first love and wondering if
- 24:48there's still a chance at a happy ending. The other
- 24:52is Urban's take on Summer Breeze Seals and Crofts nineteen
- 24:55seventy two soft rock classic. The actual track list Steal
- 25:00Away Baby, Come Back, Magnet and Steel featuring Little Big Town,
- 25:05Just the two of Us, on and on we Go
- 25:08Back featuring Michael McDonald, Help Is on Its Way, how
- 25:11Much I Feel, Summer Breeze, I Just Want to Stop,
- 25:14and Guitar Man featuring John Mayer. Next, Luke Combs becomes
- 25:20first artist to ever accomplish this feat. To quote Luke
- 25:24M's song when it Rains It Pours, he is on
- 25:27a redneck roll. Everything he does seems to be on
- 25:29a rocket ship to the top. According to music Row,
- 25:33Combs has just set a new record that might have
- 25:35even surpassed and surprised him. He has become the first
- 25:39artist to ever land two different solo songs at number
- 25:42one on the Billboard and media based Country radio charts
- 25:46at the very same time. Sleep As in a Hotel
- 25:49Room is number one on Billboard's Country Airplay chart for
- 25:52the third consecutive week, a major feat in itself. Meanwhile,
- 25:57Days Like These earns him his twenty first straight number
- 26:00one single on the media based Country Airplay chart. This
- 26:04honor or. That honor also belongs to Luke Combs. The
- 26:07latest number one extends his own record for the most
- 26:10consecutive number ones to start a career, twenty one of them.
- 26:14To be exact, in baseball, he would be batting a thousand.
- 26:18In basketball, his shooting percentage would be one hundred percent.
- 26:21These stats are just as impressive in music as they
- 26:24would be in sports. If you tune into country radio station,
- 26:27you're more than likely to hear one of the many
- 26:29radio hits Combs as notched over his career, or even
- 26:32one of his two newest chart toppers. The Hurricane Singer
- 26:35is nominated for three awards at the twenty twenty six
- 26:38ACM Awards, Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the
- 26:42Year and Artist Songwriter of the Year. Next from Cottone
- 26:47Eye Joe to Diplow. Why country music's next chapter may
- 26:51involve turntables. While there's been a steady rise in traditional
- 26:56leaning country music complete with fiddles and steel guitars, another
- 27:00trend is picking up steam in Nashville. Country music seems
- 27:03to be flirting with electronic dance music. Oh No. While
- 27:08a complete undoing of three Chords and the truth could
- 27:11never happen fingers crossed, the genre is experimenting with different
- 27:14sounds and it's not a new concept. There are people
- 27:17who claim country music is crossed into pop over the years,
- 27:20and of course some artists have played around with other
- 27:22styles like trap beats, were looking at You, Morgan Wallen.
- 27:27But a new experiment appears to be emerging, and it's
- 27:30allowing another genre to capitalize on country's current popularity and
- 27:34pop culture. Electronic dance music DJs are adjusting their faders
- 27:39to favor cowboys and cowgirls. The last few years of
- 27:43Stagecoach have been a prime example, with DJ and producer
- 27:46Diplo hosting his own Honky Talk stage featuring several of
- 27:50his turntable friends, and they weren't just playing their own music.
- 27:54These artists were remixing country songs and adding them to
- 27:57their sets. And chalk this up as a one off
- 28:01or simply something done at a festival to shake things up.
- 28:04But country music is no longer a stranger to dance
- 28:07music and vice versa. In nineteen ninety four, the Rednecks
- 28:11took a folk song from the nineteen twenties and turned
- 28:14it into one of the catchiest dance songs on the planet.
- 28:17Cotton Eye Joe became a cultural phenomenon, one that's still
- 28:21as the kids say, slaps. Fast forward to the twenty
- 28:24first century and you'll find country songs remixed to fit
- 28:27into the EDM world of crowded clubs and festivals. A
- 28:30handful of producers have even stepped on to the Nashville
- 28:33soil well. This concludes the reading of Country Weekly for
- 28:37this week. If you have any comments or suggestions about
