- 0:08Speaker 1: We're here all season long. You know it's nothing but love.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast, Mitchell. Another week
- 0:21Speaker 1: in free agency and even more action. The San Francisco
- 0:25Speaker 1: forty nine Ers are at it again. They trade the
- 0:27Speaker 1: number ninety two pick for Osa a Diggi Zuwa, a
- 0:31Speaker 1: defensive tackle from the Dallas Cowboys, and I think this
- 0:35Speaker 1: is a great pickup. I think this is a great pickup.
- 0:37Speaker 1: They also signed Dre Greenlaw, They signed Nate Hobbs, re
- 0:42Speaker 1: signed Luke Gifford. It's it's been so many deals. They
- 0:47Speaker 1: signed a new punter and say goodbye to Thomas Moristead.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Bryce Huff retires Joey Bosa. His mom is tweeting out
- 0:55Speaker 1: pictures with both both her boys and forty nine Ers
- 0:58Speaker 1: gear again. So I get too ahead of ourselves. This
- 1:02Speaker 1: has happened before, and he ended up a Buffalo bill,
- 1:04Speaker 1: So I think everybody is holding their breath. But I
- 1:08Speaker 1: love miss Bosa. She's fantastic.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Richard, let's talk about this Osa Diggy Zua trade. This
- 1:14Speaker 2: is a big move for San Francisco. You know, you
- 1:17Speaker 2: looked at last year, right, they were playing musical chairs
- 1:20Speaker 2: on the defensive line. We saw Nick Bosa go out, obviously,
- 1:23Speaker 2: the first round of Mikal Williams goes out significant injuries
- 1:26Speaker 2: that totally caused them to shift everything. And then everyone
- 1:29Speaker 2: they put in, you know, was getting banged up along
- 1:31Speaker 2: the way. They were leaning on rookies, you know, CJ.
- 1:34Speaker 2: West out of Indiana, so to bring in a veteran
- 1:37Speaker 2: and Osa Digie Zuo from Dallas and obviously they valued them, right.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I mean, they traded a third round pick, but that's
- 1:43Speaker 2: nothing to sneeze at a top hundred pick going over
- 1:46Speaker 2: to the Cowboys in this move. You know, how important
- 1:49Speaker 2: do you think it was for the San Francisco forty
- 1:51Speaker 2: nine ers to address the defensive line in a meaningful
- 1:54Speaker 2: way like this.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It's huge, It's huge, and they've tried to us it
- 2:01Speaker 1: over the last couple of years. I mean, they played
- 2:03Speaker 1: Javon Hargrave all that money. I think he's still on
- 2:07Speaker 1: their dead cap money, their dead cap number, but at
- 2:12Speaker 1: the end of the day, it just hasn't worked out.
- 2:14Speaker 1: For some reason, he got injured. Then they went to
- 2:18Speaker 1: adjust it in the draft, drafting Michel Williams, who's very versatile,
- 2:22Speaker 1: can play inside, in outside, great against the run. They
- 2:25Speaker 1: drafted Alfred Collins, but it's tough to play consistent high
- 2:30Speaker 1: level D line play with young guys like that without
- 2:33Speaker 1: veterans in front of them and allowing them to rotate
- 2:36Speaker 1: and learn. It's a grown man game in the National
- 2:39Speaker 1: Football League. So this is a great pickup. A guy
- 2:43Speaker 1: who can play three downs for the San Francisco forty
- 2:47Speaker 1: nine ers, a guy that's experienced, had three and a
- 2:50Speaker 1: half sacks last year, can be disruptive, has a great motor,
- 2:54Speaker 1: has been consistent over the years, has been relatively healthy,
- 2:58Speaker 1: So I think this helped some. I still think they
- 3:02Speaker 1: they address it again in the draft. I don't think
- 3:04Speaker 1: you can ever have enough D lineman, which is which
- 3:07Speaker 1: is evidenced by the Seattle Seahawks' success and their rotation,
- 3:12Speaker 1: their death that defensive line. They just keep bringing in
- 3:15Speaker 1: waves and waves of really talented and really stout defensive linemen,
- 3:19Speaker 1: which is tough to deal with for an offensive line
- 3:21Speaker 1: that never subs out of the game. So I think
- 3:25Speaker 1: this is an important thing. I think they're looking to
- 3:27Speaker 1: build their defensive line back up to an elite defensive
- 3:31Speaker 1: line and and you gotta invest in it. And I
- 3:34Speaker 1: think that's what they're doing. Obviously, bringing Nicholas John Bosa
- 3:38Speaker 1: back is gonna be huge. Last year they did it
- 3:41Speaker 1: with Bryce Huff and Cleveland Ferrell and Gross Mattos and
- 3:45Speaker 1: and not a ton of big names that you you
- 3:48Speaker 1: would expect them to consistently start. And so I think
- 3:54Speaker 1: they'll obviously be be leaps and bounds better than they
- 3:57Speaker 1: were last year. But they gotta find a way. Bryce
- 4:00Speaker 1: just retired and he was a lot of their production
- 4:03Speaker 1: last year with his motor and what he brought, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: everybody was looking forward to to seeing him with John
- 4:09Speaker 1: with Nicholas John Bosa on the other side and what
- 4:12Speaker 1: they could do together. But uh, he retires and and
- 4:16Speaker 1: then the San Francisco forty nine ers release his rights,
- 4:18Speaker 1: which was a little strange to me because I was
- 4:20Speaker 1: I was sick of Hey, if he retires, he's young.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Pass rushers always you know, can come back and they
- 4:28Speaker 1: stay in good enough shape, you could at least get
- 4:29Speaker 1: third down. So if you hold onto his rights, if
- 4:32Speaker 1: he decides to unretire, uh, you can bring him back
- 4:34Speaker 1: into the mix or at least leave your leave the
- 4:36Speaker 1: option open. But the San Francisco forty nine ers obviously
- 4:40Speaker 1: are wiser than me and thought it'd be better to
- 4:43Speaker 1: just release his rights. Uh. But I think that's a
- 4:47Speaker 1: great move the Nate Hobbs. It's one of those moves
- 4:51Speaker 1: that I'm in a wait and see mode just because
- 4:54Speaker 1: I don't think the Packers played him right. I think
- 4:58Speaker 1: he's an inside corner. I think he he stays in
- 5:00Speaker 1: the nickel and you can occasionally play him outside, but
- 5:04Speaker 1: I don't think you play him as an outside corner
- 5:08Speaker 1: as the end all be all. I know we feel
- 5:10Speaker 1: good about what Upton Stout has done this season or
- 5:15Speaker 1: what he did last season and his growth, but I
- 5:19Speaker 1: think competition is good for everybody, and it'll be great
- 5:22Speaker 1: in that spot. I love the green Law pick up.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It's an affordable price. He's back home, he's a year
- 5:27Speaker 1: removed from an achilles, and that's when you start to
- 5:30Speaker 1: see a real big jump. That's when I started to
- 5:33Speaker 1: see a real big jump. Is the second year after
- 5:37Speaker 1: you come back from your achilles. The first year you're
- 5:40Speaker 1: just trying to survive. And he tore his achilles in
- 5:43Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, so to try to come back the
- 5:46Speaker 1: next season. You know, seven eight months later. It's a
- 5:52Speaker 1: tough ask. And I tore mine in November, so I
- 5:55Speaker 1: had a couple more months and I started the season.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I still didn't feel right until the next season, and
- 6:00Speaker 1: they still feel right until the summer of nineteen. And
- 6:06Speaker 1: that's what you're dealing with. And so I think you'll
- 6:08Speaker 1: see him look better, feel better, be more explosive, look
- 6:12Speaker 1: more like the Drake green Law that you recognize from old.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I think he's excited to be home. Him and Fred
- 6:20Speaker 1: Warner one of the best tandems in the National Football League.
- 6:23Speaker 1: They feed off one another, they energize one another. They're
- 6:26Speaker 1: in the weight room together, they're off the field together,
- 6:29Speaker 1: they're in the film room together. A lot of times
- 6:32Speaker 1: you can't find one without the other. And I think
- 6:34Speaker 1: sometimes when you leave, you know, absence makes the heart
- 6:38Speaker 1: grow fonder and you realize what you missed. And I
- 6:42Speaker 1: think he has an appreciation for what the San Francisco
- 6:44Speaker 1: forty unit ers mean to him, what they mean in
- 6:47Speaker 1: his career, what Fred Warner means to his career. I
- 6:51Speaker 1: think this re energizes Fred Warner in a big way.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And I can't wait to see them too, back on
- 6:55Speaker 1: the field together five seven and five four back together.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Oh, just look, it was an obvious fit. Dre Greenlaw
- 7:02Speaker 2: goes back to the San Francisco forty nine ers. San
- 7:05Speaker 2: Franz made a couple of unique moves this offseason, bringing
- 7:08Speaker 2: in Mike Mike Evans obviously this osa o'diggy zewa uh trade,
- 7:13Speaker 2: and then Dre Greenlaw and Nate Hobbs Richard, what are
- 7:16Speaker 2: the most glaring holes left that they need to fill,
- 7:19Speaker 2: you know, before the draft to give you comfort.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Safety? Safety, safety safety First, you gotta you gotta find
- 7:35Speaker 1: a safety, a veteran safety who's played good football. Kevin
- 7:41Speaker 1: Byrd would have been fantastic. Didn't get him understood, But
- 7:46Speaker 1: I think a veteran safety is something that you gotta
- 7:49Speaker 1: find a way to get, whether you try to trade
- 7:51Speaker 1: for him or I don't think there's many free agents
- 7:55Speaker 1: so left that you uh, that makes sense for the
- 7:58Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers, But I think safety is
- 8:00Speaker 1: still the biggest issue. And again, young guys. There are
- 8:04Speaker 1: some young guys that could come in and play at
- 8:06Speaker 1: a high level. You find them and they just fit
- 8:09Speaker 1: and they just the game isn't too big for him.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It's not too fast for him, but I think it
- 8:16Speaker 1: gives me hesitation to start back off with with without
- 8:21Speaker 1: any competition at safety spot. If you if you just
- 8:24Speaker 1: go in there and uh and and start Malik Mustafa
- 8:29Speaker 1: and JayR Brown. I mean that's fine, but because I
- 8:32Speaker 1: think at times Yair played played really good football and
- 8:35Speaker 1: Malik Musafa flashed and show played really fast and aggressive.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But again there were times they did not play great
- 8:42Speaker 1: football and and and you know it, it left them
- 8:46Speaker 1: uh and it left the defense in a bad position,
- 8:49Speaker 1: bad situation. And I think that's something that we I
- 8:54Speaker 1: think they have to address both in the draft in
- 8:57Speaker 1: finding a veteran, a veteran presence. I remember when they
- 9:00Speaker 1: had Tayshaun Gibson and everybody was like, oh, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: this is just a veteran feeler. And they went to
- 9:06Speaker 1: the super Bowl that season and he had one of
- 9:08Speaker 1: his best seasons, and you I think everybody could see
- 9:11Speaker 1: the value that a veteran safety brings and just his
- 9:14Speaker 1: feel and his you know how he's recognizing things and
- 9:18Speaker 1: being ahead of the play and a sound tackler, and
- 9:20Speaker 1: it just calms the defense down. It just gives the
- 9:24Speaker 1: defense a validity, you know, but we it's something that
- 9:32Speaker 1: I think they have to address. I wish you know.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I did an interview the other day with Rod Woodson
- 9:37Speaker 1: that you know, we're gonna we're gonna put out this week,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and you just forget, man, how much different a great
- 9:45Speaker 1: safety can make a defense. I mean, obviously they've had
- 9:48Speaker 1: a ton of great safeties in the San Francisco forty
- 9:50Speaker 1: nine Ers history, but boy, Rob Woodson was one of
- 9:54Speaker 1: the ones mentioned second all time seventy one interceptions, seven won,
- 10:00Speaker 1: like the the Niners had I think eighteen sets. I
- 10:05Speaker 1: mean a handful of interceptions. I gotta go back and
- 10:09Speaker 1: look at the numbers, but it was not a lot
- 10:11Speaker 1: of interceptions last season and a veteran safety, not that
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's just gonna be an automatic fix, but some of
- 10:17Speaker 1: the drops last season, we're head scratching and you can't
- 10:21Speaker 1: have it. You can't have that. You gotta have guys
- 10:23Speaker 1: that just make the make make the layups, make the layups,
- 10:26Speaker 1: the ball hits you in the chest, catch it, Like, hey,
- 10:30Speaker 1: if you can't catch that, then I don't know there
- 10:34Speaker 1: it is. Fort Niners had six interceptions last year. All
- 10:37Speaker 1: last season. Mitchell I had multiple seasons where I had
- 10:39Speaker 1: eight alone. You can't do it. You can't live like.
- 10:44Speaker 2: The Jets just had a season where they had zero interceptions,
- 10:46Speaker 2: So I'm sure they could have used Rod Woodson as well.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You guys got to check out the ride at Woodson interview.
- 10:51Speaker 2: You want to talk about a guy that knows football,
- 10:53Speaker 2: Rod Woodson is that guy. He was a guy that
- 10:55Speaker 2: was always around the football growing up, Richard. He was
- 10:57Speaker 2: one of those guys that stood out when I was
- 10:59Speaker 2: a young buck, right. I mean, you know the great
- 11:02Speaker 2: ones when you see them, and Rod Woodson certainly is
- 11:05Speaker 2: one of those.

- 12:50Speaker 1: today and let's get the party started. It's the Seahawks.
- 12:56Speaker 1: On the other hand, sign Emmanuel Wilson. John Snyder's giving
- 13:01Speaker 1: his opinion about the millionaire tax that that just got
- 13:08Speaker 1: written into law in Washington, charging players nine point nine
- 13:13Speaker 1: percent tax on earnings over a million dollars. So that's tough.
- 13:18Speaker 1: That's a really tough tax for guys in a in
- 13:21Speaker 1: a tax free was a tax free state, income tax
- 13:27Speaker 1: free state. But now if guys are coming in there
- 13:30Speaker 1: and making you know, a few million dollars, they're getting
- 13:34Speaker 1: tax at a ten percent rate. I mean, it's comparable
- 13:37Speaker 1: to what California and New York obviously those are I
- 13:39Speaker 1: think twelve and thirteen. But you go from zero to
- 13:44Speaker 1: nine point nine over a million dollars, it changes the
- 13:47Speaker 1: dynamic drastically. How do you feel about it, Mitchell.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Richard, Then well let's start right there, because yeah, I mean,
- 13:51Speaker 2: that's one of the things I think that's overlooked in
- 13:54Speaker 2: the sports world in general. We see a lot of
- 13:56Speaker 2: whether it be the NBA, NHL, NFL, the MLB, you
- 14:00Speaker 2: name it. These guys got a lot more to think
- 14:02Speaker 2: about than just what team they want to play for.
- 14:04Speaker 2: They got to think about the ramifications of what state
- 14:08Speaker 2: they're playing in. And I know that you guys have
- 14:11Speaker 2: the jock tax and all that stuff to worry about
- 14:14Speaker 2: what state you're playing in and what state you're practicing in,
- 14:17Speaker 2: et cetera. But this is a big deal in the
- 14:20Speaker 2: state of Washington. Nine point nine percent tax above the
- 14:24Speaker 2: million dollar threshold. This starts in twenty twenty nine. Richard,
- 14:28Speaker 2: what kind of impact do you think this is gonna have,
- 14:30Speaker 2: Because here's the reality of it. A player signs a
- 14:33Speaker 2: ten million dollar a year deal, you basically cut a
- 14:36Speaker 2: million dollars off the top. That's something the state of
- 14:39Speaker 2: Washington has never had before. Do you see this playing
- 14:42Speaker 2: a big factor in the way, you know, the appeal
- 14:46Speaker 2: of the Seattle Seahawks to free agents, to keeping their
- 14:50Speaker 2: own guys on the roster, et cetera.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it definitely plays a huge factor because
- 14:57Speaker 1: when you when you talk about California, you get the weather.
- 15:00Speaker 1: So if a guy's thinking about going there and he
- 15:03Speaker 1: understands he has to deal with that big tax number
- 15:05Speaker 1: for state tax, at least you can sell him on
- 15:08Speaker 1: the weather. You know, probably three hundred days of sunshine
- 15:12Speaker 1: or two hundred and eighty five days of sunshine, whatever
- 15:15Speaker 1: it is, depending on if you're in the Bay or LA.
- 15:19Speaker 1: If you're going to New York, you can sell them
- 15:20Speaker 1: the big city and all the a lure that comes
- 15:24Speaker 1: with New York City. But for Seattle, a lot of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the draw is because it's a it's a smaller market.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Is Hey, you don't have to deal with state income tax.
- 15:37Speaker 1: That saves you. That saves you a million bucks on
- 15:41Speaker 1: a ten million dollar deal, especially on a signing bonus.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Now jock tax. Every time you play in a different state,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you get tax in that state, understood, But when you're
- 15:50Speaker 1: talking about a signing bonus, which is usually your bigger number,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know, whether it's ten, fifteen, twenty million dollars, that's
- 15:57Speaker 1: tax in the state that you're playing. So if you're
- 16:00Speaker 1: talking about twenty million dollars here, that's that's almost two
- 16:02Speaker 1: million dollars off the top. That would change if you're
- 16:07Speaker 1: in Texas or Florida or Washington before this tax came
- 16:13Speaker 1: into play, And so I think it will definitely have
- 16:16Speaker 1: an effect on what players are thinking about when they
- 16:18Speaker 1: come here. Obviously, if the number is big enough, guys
- 16:22Speaker 1: are gonna gonna still come play for the Seahawks. It's
- 16:24Speaker 1: not going to change totally. You know that nobody's gonna
- 16:28Speaker 1: come play for the Seahawks. That's not true at all
- 16:30Speaker 1: by any extent. But it's definitely going to make it
- 16:33Speaker 1: more of a conversation than it's been. It's definitely going
- 16:35Speaker 1: to be more of a factor than it's ever been
- 16:37Speaker 1: because that's been one of the It goes from being
- 16:40Speaker 1: a positive, a pro for the Seattle Seahawks to a
- 16:44Speaker 1: huge con.
- 16:46Speaker 2: No question about it. And we'll see how that all
- 16:48Speaker 2: plays out. I mean these next couple of years. Obviously,
- 16:51Speaker 2: I know John Schneider is put together a masterclass these
- 16:56Speaker 2: last couple of seasons, but this adjustment, it's gonna be
- 17:00Speaker 2: one that he's not necessarily gonna be comfortable with because
- 17:02Speaker 2: there's no way to really smooth sail this. I mean,
- 17:06Speaker 2: it is what it is.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It is the law.
- 17:07Speaker 2: But let's talk a little bit more about football. Let's say,
- 17:10Speaker 2: while we're talking about the Seahawks, let's talk about this
- 17:13Speaker 2: signing of Emmanuel Wilson, the running back from Green Bay
- 17:16Speaker 2: who really thrived in Green Bay's offense. When we saw
- 17:20Speaker 2: Josh get Jacobs go out and get banged up a
- 17:22Speaker 2: little bit last year. This was a team in Seattle
- 17:26Speaker 2: that desperately needed a running back. I mean we talked
- 17:28Speaker 2: about it last podcast. Cane nine goes to the Kansas
- 17:32Speaker 2: City Chiefs and Zach Charbonay obviously dealing with this late
- 17:37Speaker 2: season ACL injury that is gonna be playing a factor
- 17:42Speaker 2: in this next season, whether fans wanted to or not,
- 17:45Speaker 2: they needed to bring in a guy with the experience
- 17:48Speaker 2: that can tote the rock for him. Emmanuel Wilson's a
- 17:51Speaker 2: bruiser and I think he's a guy that can really
- 17:54Speaker 2: help this offense. How much do you like this signing
- 17:56Speaker 2: from John Schneider in the Seattle Seahawks.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Really I like it because he brings he brings that
- 18:03Speaker 1: that that bruiser, but he does have a have a
- 18:05Speaker 1: level of explosiveness to him and he was really great
- 18:09Speaker 1: in in the role spelling Josh Jacobs last year. I
- 18:14Speaker 1: think with more carries and more responsibility he can he
- 18:17Speaker 1: can elevate his game to another level. And obviously, like
- 18:19Speaker 1: you said, Zach sarbinet Uh is going to be probably
- 18:23Speaker 1: a little banged up to start the season. I don't
- 18:26Speaker 1: think that. I don't think that Zach h They feel
- 18:30Speaker 1: like George Hallani is necessarily ready for for full time role,
- 18:36Speaker 1: a full or at least halftime of carries that that
- 18:41Speaker 1: he would need to have in this situation. So I
- 18:43Speaker 1: think it's great. But I think overall, the sentiment with
- 18:51Speaker 1: Seahawks fans and even with fans around the league is that,
- 18:55Speaker 1: oh man, the Seahawks are so much worse than they
- 18:57Speaker 1: were last year because they lost all these pieces. Let's
- 19:00Speaker 1: let's put everything in context. The strength of the Seattle Seahawks'
- 19:05Speaker 1: defense is their defensive line, their front, their coverages, how
- 19:12Speaker 1: Mike McDonald Mike McDonald's mind is the strength they're able
- 19:17Speaker 1: to play a multitude of coverages, really smart safety play
- 19:21Speaker 1: with Kobe Bryant and Julian Love uh now Tye Tya
- 19:26Speaker 1: Kattas replacing Kobe Bryant because he went and got his payday.
- 19:32Speaker 1: They played a lot of the season with Greek Wooland
- 19:36Speaker 1: in and out of the lineup. So to lose Reek
- 19:38Speaker 1: Wooland to the Philadelphia Eagles is a is a loss,
- 19:42Speaker 1: but it's a loss. I think they were prepared to
- 19:45Speaker 1: take go on if it happened. I think they had
- 19:48Speaker 1: games last year where they weren't depending on what Greek
- 19:51Speaker 1: Wooland was doing or how his game was going. I
- 19:55Speaker 1: think that's a big reason why they felt like they
- 19:57Speaker 1: had to keep Josh Joe, because Josh Job was a
- 19:59Speaker 1: fact all season one. Josh Job was a major factor
- 20:03Speaker 1: in a factor I don't think gets enough credit for
- 20:07Speaker 1: the success defense had because of his ability to stand
- 20:10Speaker 1: up backside one on one, which was evident in the
- 20:13Speaker 1: Super Bowl when he when he had to do it
- 20:15Speaker 1: multiple times, his ability to play multiple coverages, disguise, get
- 20:20Speaker 1: his hands on receivers reroute reroute, not reposition himself, getting
- 20:25Speaker 1: tackle tackle extremely well. They still have Devin Witherspoon, who
- 20:32Speaker 1: plays who's their Swiss Army knife in their defense, still
- 20:37Speaker 1: have Nicki min Worri, who will take on a bigger
- 20:39Speaker 1: role and and likely uh thrive even more in this
- 20:44Speaker 1: system in year two. It's crazy that he's just in
- 20:47Speaker 1: year two. So I don't think I don't think there's
- 20:51Speaker 1: a need to panic. Sam Darnold's still under contract for
- 20:55Speaker 1: a very reasonable number. Jackson Smith and Jigba. You bring
- 20:59Speaker 1: back she Shaheed, which is another big deal that they
- 21:02Speaker 1: just signed. His importance in the special team's realm is huge.
- 21:07Speaker 1: But I think when you pay him seventeen million dollars
- 21:10Speaker 1: a year like they did with this contract, I think
- 21:12Speaker 1: that tells you that he's going to assume the number
- 21:16Speaker 1: two role that I think most people had Cooper Cut
- 21:19Speaker 1: penciled in as because of his fifteen million dollar number
- 21:25Speaker 1: one of the most expensive receiver rooms in the National
- 21:27Speaker 1: Football League now, especially once JSN gets his forty million dollars,
- 21:31Speaker 1: it's people wonder, why can't we just resign Knine and
- 21:36Speaker 1: do this and do that. It is only once you
- 21:39Speaker 1: start to pay your starting corner corner one money, which
- 21:43Speaker 1: is thirty one million dollars now, and you start to
- 21:45Speaker 1: pay your receiver one receiver one money, which is forty
- 21:48Speaker 1: million dollars a year, everything else is musical chairs at
- 21:52Speaker 1: that point. And so I think that's a big reason
- 21:56Speaker 1: why they're doing making a smart decisions. They're resigning people early.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think they got Charles Cross for a really good
- 22:04Speaker 1: number that can can flex throughout the years, and you
- 22:08Speaker 1: know they'll they'll play with that contract. I'm sure throughout
- 22:11Speaker 1: the seasons they got a lot of guys for affordable,
- 22:14Speaker 1: reasonable deals right now, so this is their window to
- 22:17Speaker 1: make things happen I think they'll draft well. John is
- 22:20Speaker 1: drafted extremely well over the last three four years, and
- 22:24Speaker 1: that's why they're in a position they're in. They got
- 22:26Speaker 1: young guys who are who are on rookie contracts and
- 22:28Speaker 1: they're playing at a really high level, and I think
- 22:30Speaker 1: that'll continue. I love the Shaheed pick up. I think
- 22:33Speaker 1: he's gonna get again a better rapport with Sam Darnold
- 22:37Speaker 1: this offseason. I expect at least one deep shot to
- 22:40Speaker 1: two deep shots a game to really soften his defense
- 22:43Speaker 1: in this offense to be even more explosive next year
- 22:46Speaker 1: than it was this year.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Well, and here's I think what Seattle Seahawk the fan
- 22:51Speaker 2: base in general needs to understand is like this team
- 22:54Speaker 2: was playing with an embarrassment of riches. You know, this
- 22:56Speaker 2: depth chart on this team, specifically defensively was unblole, and
- 23:01Speaker 2: they were a showcase, you know, and their run late
- 23:04Speaker 2: in the season when they were viewed as the best
- 23:06Speaker 2: team in the league. And naturally they're going to lose
- 23:09Speaker 2: some of these players because of that. You talk about
- 23:11Speaker 2: Riek Wohland, you talk about Kobe Bryant, talk about K nine.
- 23:15Speaker 2: You know, obviously boy Mafi is leaving town. There's a
- 23:19Speaker 2: lot of people that are leaving this team, but I
- 23:23Speaker 2: don't see it as a huge glaring problem for Seattle.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I've got utmost confidence in John Schneider and what he's
- 23:29Speaker 2: able to do in the draft. I think the biggest
- 23:31Speaker 2: question mark that I had with this team is a
- 23:33Speaker 2: running back situation without Charbona, without K nine. I think
- 23:37Speaker 2: Emmanuel Wilson helps that. I wouldn't be surprised if they
- 23:41Speaker 2: try to address that as well later in the draft
- 23:43Speaker 2: with another running back. So stay calm, Seattle. You guys
- 23:47Speaker 2: just won the Super Bowl. I think that you know
- 23:50Speaker 2: everything's going to play out, and the luxury that they
- 23:53Speaker 2: have right now is Sam Darnold and the expertise that
- 23:56Speaker 2: we saw last season of bringing him in, a competent
- 23:59Speaker 2: quarter back who's still in his prime, entering his prime.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I think Seattle is gonna have to think long and
- 24:06Speaker 2: hard about what they want to pay him when he's
- 24:08Speaker 2: done due, because that's the that's the next step in
- 24:11Speaker 2: this right. I mean, you talked about JSN, Now we
- 24:14Speaker 2: got to talk about Sam Donald a little bit because
- 24:17Speaker 2: Richard sam Donald means so much to this organization and
- 24:21Speaker 2: we saw it in bringing home the Super Bowl. Do
- 24:23Speaker 2: you think he's gonna be paid ultimately like a top
- 24:26Speaker 2: five guy, Like we see these guys resetting the market
- 24:30Speaker 2: year after year. You think that's something Seattle should embark
- 24:33Speaker 2: on because that conversation is coming, and.
- 24:40Speaker 1: It's a really tough ask because and it's a fair question,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I think I don't I don't think they should engage
- 24:46Speaker 1: in that that kind of fight. I think top ten,
- 24:49Speaker 1: no question about it. I think you're gonna you're gonna
- 24:51Speaker 1: get into the fifty plus million dollar range with Sam Donald.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I mean, usually a great number for a quarterback. Nobody
- 24:58Speaker 1: outside of Deck has gotten to six six. But now
- 25:02Speaker 1: that the cap is three hundred and three hundred plus million,
- 25:07Speaker 1: it starts to become a normal number because usually, historically
- 25:11Speaker 1: the quarterbacks are seventeen to twenty one percent of the cap,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and twenty percent of the cap is right around sixty
- 25:18Speaker 1: million dollars a year. So you start to getting those
- 25:22Speaker 1: conversations and say that's the number that historically quarterback it's
- 25:26Speaker 1: less about sixty million and more about seventeen to twenty
- 25:31Speaker 1: one percent of the cap. If you look at back
- 25:33Speaker 1: when Aaron Rodgers, every time the top five quarterbacks are
- 25:37Speaker 1: right there seventeen to twenty percent of the cap. And
- 25:40Speaker 1: we've talked about this as a union when we're discussing
- 25:45Speaker 1: the salary cap and quarterback numbers are exploding and their
- 25:49Speaker 1: contracts were ballooning and other position groups weren't. And the
- 25:53Speaker 1: conversation was about capping quarterback contracts, which is something nobody
- 25:59Speaker 1: agreed to, nobody really seriously entertained. But the reason the
- 26:05Speaker 1: conversation came up is because of the amount of the
- 26:10Speaker 1: salary that quarterbacks were taken up and other contracts were varying.
- 26:15Speaker 1: You know, cornerback maybe fifteen twelve percent DN maybe sixteen percent,
- 26:23Speaker 1: depending on what's going on with certain teams. But we
- 26:27Speaker 1: started to see a commonality between what teams the percentage
- 26:34Speaker 1: that teams were staying within to pay quarterbacks. But that
- 26:37Speaker 1: story for a different day. I think that if Sam
- 26:41Speaker 1: Darnold has another really successful season this season and they
- 26:44Speaker 1: make a deep playoff run and these are big gifts,
- 26:48Speaker 1: I think they come going to year three, tearing that
- 26:51Speaker 1: contract up and paying him over fifty plus maybe fifty
- 26:55Speaker 1: four to fifty five million dollars a year, and that
- 26:58Speaker 1: again changes the dying because you're starting to pay guys
- 27:02Speaker 1: much higher numbers than you did in previous years. You'll
- 27:05Speaker 1: jsn And and Devin Witherspoon's numbers are going to be
- 27:10Speaker 1: much higher now. There are ways to circumvent the system
- 27:14Speaker 1: and make the cap numbers lower than they look. But
- 27:17Speaker 1: at the end of the day, those guys are going
- 27:19Speaker 1: to get paid big money, deservedly so, and that's when
- 27:23Speaker 1: the dynamics starts to change for fans and everybody. Right now,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I think the Seahawks are fine. I think they have
- 27:29Speaker 1: an incredibly strong team, still a top five roster in
- 27:32Speaker 1: the NFL, top two roster in the NFL, and I
- 27:34Speaker 1: think they're going to make another deep playoff run and
- 27:37Speaker 1: be a great team in the NFC for years to come.
- 27:40Speaker 1: And you know, we'll address the rest of the issues
- 27:43Speaker 1: when they start to come up.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Roacher. We had some other breaking news over the weekend,
- 27:46Speaker 2: and we talked about it a little bit on our
- 27:48Speaker 2: last podcast, but Kyler Murray non surprisingly signs with the
- 27:53Speaker 2: Minnesota Vikings on a one year deal. Kyler goes and
- 27:57Speaker 2: plays in Kevin O'Connell's offense, and if Kevin O'Connell can't
- 28:01Speaker 2: change him and make him work, I don't know who could.
- 28:04Speaker 2: This is a good fit for Kyler individually? Is it
- 28:08Speaker 2: a good fit for Minnesota though? Should Viking fans be excited.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Compared to what they what they had.
- 28:20Speaker 2: And told you don't want my ex Brosmer back out there?
- 28:23Speaker 1: Rich, Come on, man, I mean they wanted JJ McCarthy
- 28:28Speaker 1: and they told me that JJ McCarthy was the answer,
- 28:30Speaker 1: and I was crazy, that's what that's when Minnesota Vikings
- 28:33Speaker 1: fans they said I was just a hater and I
- 28:35Speaker 1: was writing them off and I didn't know any better,
- 28:37Speaker 1: and I I just hated JJ McCarthy. No, I just
- 28:41Speaker 1: watched him tape. Guys. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I know
- 28:44Speaker 1: football and you guys clearly don't. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Everybody else could see, even Kevin O'Connell could see. And
- 28:51Speaker 1: the Minnesota Vikings get rid of their general manager because
- 28:55Speaker 1: they could now see it. They could now see that
- 28:57Speaker 1: it was a mistake letting Daniel Jones and say Darnold
- 29:00Speaker 1: walk out of the building and putting all their hope
- 29:03Speaker 1: and a rookie quarterback who never started in the National
- 29:06Speaker 1: Football League. And I'm sorry, I don't apologize for that.
- 29:12Speaker 1: And they're now gonna start Kyler Murray. They're gonna bring
- 29:14Speaker 1: Kyler Murray in, pay him one point three million dollars
- 29:17Speaker 1: and allow the Arizona Cardinals to pay the rest of
- 29:20Speaker 1: his salary, and they're gonna start him, and he's gonna
- 29:23Speaker 1: play solid football. He's gonna he's a good player. He's
- 29:25Speaker 1: a really talented football player. He's an incredibly explosive great
- 29:30Speaker 1: arm can be accurate at times. And with with these guys,
- 29:36Speaker 1: I mean he he his issue was off the field,
- 29:41Speaker 1: and not off the field in the negative way that
- 29:43Speaker 1: people think about off the field issues. But but I
- 29:46Speaker 1: think they're gonna be pleasantly surprised. He's really act. He's
- 29:49Speaker 1: really a great player, and he's exciting to watch. He's
- 29:52Speaker 1: exciting to watch play football. And with Kevin O'Connell and
- 30:00Speaker 1: and all the talent that he's gonna have, the stability,
- 30:04Speaker 1: the offensive stability that he's gonna have around him, Mitchell,
- 30:06Speaker 1: I think they're getting a really, really fun and exciting
- 30:10Speaker 1: player in Kyler Murray. He can be explosive at times.
- 30:14Speaker 1: His last healthy season was twenty twenty four. He had
- 30:18Speaker 1: a ninety three point five quarterback rating. He threw for
- 30:21Speaker 1: thirty eight one hundred yards twenty one touchdowns, eleven interceptions,
- 30:26Speaker 1: and that's not a bad season. That's a that's a
- 30:30Speaker 1: really really solid to good NFL quarterback season. And I
- 30:33Speaker 1: think the Minnesota Vikings would be really excited if he
- 30:37Speaker 1: had that kind of season, If he repeated that kind
- 30:39Speaker 1: of season, and with Justin Jefferson and Addison, he could
- 30:44Speaker 1: definitely he could definitely do that. I think he's gonna
- 30:46Speaker 1: have a chance to throw the open receivers, receivers that
- 30:51Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson is going to be excited because he can get.
- 30:53Speaker 1: He's gonna get him the ball. He's gonna feed him
- 30:55Speaker 1: the ball all season long. Kevin O'Connell's gonna draw up.
- 31:00Speaker 1: It's gonna be a revival of a season for this offense.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And I think people wonder, oh, man, is Kevin O'Connell
- 31:09Speaker 1: on the hot seat. He's not. I wouldn't imagine. So
- 31:12Speaker 1: if he's on the hot seat, believe you me, every organization,
- 31:17Speaker 1: including the ones some of the ones that just hired coaches,
- 31:20Speaker 1: are going to be with their finger over the fire
- 31:22Speaker 1: button if Kevin O'Connell becomes available. And so I don't
- 31:25Speaker 1: think the Minnesota Vikings are looking to do that. I
- 31:28Speaker 1: think they understand what they have in him and the value.
- 31:31Speaker 1: And I know it hasn't necessarily ended up in a
- 31:38Speaker 1: lot of success in the postseason and Super Bowls and
- 31:40Speaker 1: all that, but I mean, just the season ago with
- 31:43Speaker 1: Sam Donald, you won fourteen games. So let's not act
- 31:46Speaker 1: like it hasn't shown itself. Now. Sure, in the playoffs
- 31:49Speaker 1: it didn't go great, and he was Sam Donald sacked
- 31:53Speaker 1: nine times and they got eliminated. But I think with
- 31:57Speaker 1: competent quarterback play, he's shown that he could have success
- 32:01Speaker 1: with this team and in this division and a division
- 32:03Speaker 1: that's only getting better. I think again, the JJ McCarthy
- 32:07Speaker 1: thing kind of set this team back a little bit.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It's set it set a good defense back. But again,
- 32:14Speaker 1: they were able to to retain Brian Flores, who was
- 32:17Speaker 1: taking ahead coaching jobs and interviews and and and looking
- 32:21Speaker 1: to move on if possible. But they were able to
- 32:24Speaker 1: retain him. I think that's a huge, huge deal for
- 32:28Speaker 1: for this team and what he brings. But we're gonna see.
- 32:32Speaker 1: We're gonna see because Kyler hasn't I don't feel like
- 32:35Speaker 1: he's been in offense like this that that is really
- 32:40Speaker 1: well suited to his talents. And I know that Kevin
- 32:43Speaker 1: O'Connell is going to create a system that really, really
- 32:46Speaker 1: really emphasizes the things that Kyler does well.
- 32:49Speaker 2: It certainly is an intriguing fit. And I mean we've
- 32:51Speaker 2: seen these resurgences of of you know, these veteran quarterbacks
- 32:57Speaker 2: now that didn't work out in their first with their
- 32:59Speaker 2: first team. I mean, obviously Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, you know,
- 33:02Speaker 2: Matt mac jones last season. I mean, can Kyler Murray
- 33:06Speaker 2: replicate that mold? Is it change of scenery out of
- 33:09Speaker 2: Arizona up to Minnesota, you know, gonna spark his career.
- 33:14Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 33:14Speaker 2: But like you said, Kevin O'Connell is not the problem.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Two of those names I just mentioned we're in house
- 33:20Speaker 2: in Minnesota. The fact that you let both Daniel Jones
- 33:23Speaker 2: and Sam Donald out of the room, especially after going
- 33:27Speaker 2: fourteen and three two seasons ago, is just head scratching,
- 33:30Speaker 2: to say the least. This blind faith that they put
- 33:33Speaker 2: into JJ McCarthy's what Ultimately they shot themselves in their
- 33:37Speaker 2: own foot and the GM obviously let go this season.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Those decisions play a huge factor in all this. So
- 33:45Speaker 2: this to me kind of looks like an opportunity for them.
- 33:48Speaker 2: To have a redo here and maybe Kyler Murray works
- 33:52Speaker 2: out and maybe he is that stabilizing force because they
- 33:55Speaker 2: have so many weapons up in Minnesota, right, I mean,
- 33:57Speaker 2: the wide receiving room is loaded, they've got stable running backs.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Their defense with Brian Flores' touch is can be lethal
- 34:06Speaker 2: at times. So if Kyler Murray goes there and provides
- 34:09Speaker 2: that offense with a with consistency and that that spark
- 34:13Speaker 2: that they really needed, you know, look out in Minnesota.
- 34:15Speaker 2: But that's a big if. That's a big if. And
- 34:18Speaker 2: we'll see if he's able to show that off field
- 34:21Speaker 2: maturation and commit himself to the game and take Minnesota
- 34:25Speaker 2: you know, back to where they were a couple of
- 34:26Speaker 2: seasons ago.
- 34:28Speaker 1: And this is gonna help JJ McCarthy in the end.
- 34:32Speaker 1: This is what he needs. He needs to sit behind
- 34:34Speaker 1: a veteran and learn and just be comfortable in his
- 34:38Speaker 1: role and just get better, get continue to develop. You know,
- 34:41Speaker 1: maybe in the future he can have a really good
- 34:45Speaker 1: NFL career. This isn't they ended a role for JJ McCarthy,
- 34:48Speaker 1: but I think for a veteran quarterback coming off an
- 34:52Speaker 1: a cl injury back into a season would be tough
- 34:55Speaker 1: for a rookie to deal with the speed of the
- 34:58Speaker 1: game and everything that that comes with playing the quarterback
- 35:01Speaker 1: position after a major injury with no experience is a
- 35:06Speaker 1: tough ask, especially after on a team that won fourteen
- 35:10Speaker 1: games a year before, and the expectations are so high
- 35:15Speaker 1: and they shouldn't necessarily be for a rookie quarterback, and
- 35:20Speaker 1: so I think that was just a no win situation
- 35:22Speaker 1: to walk into. Sure, if he would have, if he
- 35:24Speaker 1: would have won ten games, eleven games, he would have
- 35:26Speaker 1: that would have been a home run for the Minnesota Vikings.
- 35:29Speaker 1: But I don't think any reasonable mind could have expected
- 35:32Speaker 1: that from him. And I think sitting behind Kyler Murray,
- 35:37Speaker 1: sitting behind any veteran quarterback, is going to help in
- 35:40Speaker 1: his development and his maturation and give him kind of
- 35:44Speaker 1: a roadmap of how to prepare and instead of just
- 35:47Speaker 1: being thrown into the fire and expected to find for himself.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And I think again, it's going to help him and
- 35:54Speaker 1: it's going to extend his NFL life more than if
- 35:58Speaker 1: he just went out there for another season and started
- 36:01Speaker 1: and if he didn't do well, like if they did
- 36:04Speaker 1: not pick up Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy was expected
- 36:06Speaker 1: to go out there and start, and if he didn't
- 36:10Speaker 1: do well, if he didn't go out there and just
- 36:13Speaker 1: light the world on fire, and they bench him, you're
- 36:17Speaker 1: looking at the beginning of the end for JJ McCarthy's career.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I think this allows him to wait and see and develop,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and people still hold out hope that maybe, you know,
- 36:28Speaker 1: those flashes that you saw in the fourth quarter of
- 36:31Speaker 1: a couple of those Chicago games can manifest itself more
- 36:34Speaker 1: often and more consistently later on in his career.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Another quarterback that signed over the weekend signed to the
- 36:41Speaker 2: Cincinnati Bengals. Lesser of a name, but more wild of
- 36:44Speaker 2: his story Josh Johnson Richard. This is his third stint
- 36:48Speaker 2: with the Cincinnati Bengals. He's made twenty two stops throughout
- 36:52Speaker 2: his NFL career and outside of the NFL. I mean
- 36:56Speaker 2: these stops include stops with the Sacramento Mountain lion Is,
- 37:00Speaker 2: the San Diego Fleet, the LA Wildcats. What a wild story.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Josh Johnson just keeps finding himself a job and you
- 37:08Speaker 2: know what, he's been a competent backup throughout his career. Clearly,
- 37:12Speaker 2: what do you make of Josh Johnson's I guess runway
- 37:15Speaker 2: of his career here, it's a pretty wild one.
- 37:19Speaker 1: It's funny because I just saw Josh Johnson a couple
- 37:22Speaker 1: of months ago and we were laughing about this because
- 37:27Speaker 1: he's just loved football and he loves You're rare to
- 37:30Speaker 1: find a guy who's been in the league as long
- 37:32Speaker 1: as he has and still has the same love for football.
- 37:35Speaker 1: But he's also a coach on the field. He's a
- 37:37Speaker 1: coaching mind, and I think that's what a lot of
- 37:40Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks are, just a great football mind. And he's
- 37:45Speaker 1: an asset to these quarterback rooms. And I think people
- 37:48Speaker 1: wonder how does he keep getting jobs, Like he's not
- 37:50Speaker 1: lighting the world on fire as a backup because he's
- 37:54Speaker 1: a guy that brings something to the quarterback room. He
- 37:58Speaker 1: brings a wealth of knowledge. He brings a wealth of
- 38:00Speaker 1: information and helps the development and maturation of the other
- 38:05Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the room. He brings a different perspective. And
- 38:09Speaker 1: I think people underestimate the importance of that international football league.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But these teams don't. These teams see Josh Johnson as
- 38:17Speaker 1: a very valuable commodity to add to their quarterback room.
- 38:20Speaker 1: That's why so many teams keep adding him. That's by
- 38:22Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers, the Giants, Ravens, Bills, Colts, Bengals again, Ravens, Buccaneers, Lions, Commanders, etc. Etc.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Have brought him in because not just because of what
- 38:36Speaker 1: he brings physically as a quarterback, but what he brings
- 38:39Speaker 1: mentally is an incredibly intelligent player. I would guess as
- 38:43Speaker 1: soon as the day he's done playing, he's on somebody's
- 38:45Speaker 1: coaching staff as a quarterbacks coach, right right away, Richard.
- 38:50Speaker 2: One other thing we got to talk about here is
- 38:52Speaker 2: AJ Brown. You know, the Eagles have been towing the
- 38:55Speaker 2: line dealing with these salary cap restraints all offseason, and
- 38:58Speaker 2: AJ Brown has been an that's come up numerous times.
- 39:02Speaker 2: There was even a report I read over the weekend
- 39:04Speaker 2: that the Rams were actually interested in AJ Brown, which
- 39:06Speaker 2: I don't know if that's true or not. And I
- 39:09Speaker 2: don't think they can make that move now because I
- 39:11Speaker 2: know Devonte Adams cap hit came into effect. But what
- 39:16Speaker 2: do you think is the best move for AJ Brown?
- 39:19Speaker 2: You think sticking with Philly and figuring this out makes
- 39:22Speaker 2: most sense, or do you think he should be on
- 39:23Speaker 2: the move.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Well, it's a great question, all right. Depends it depends
- 39:35Speaker 1: on where he goes. If you look at if you're
- 39:38Speaker 1: looking to move him to a team that's a contender
- 39:43Speaker 1: and he becomes an obvious number one, then sure, I
- 39:47Speaker 1: think it makes sense to move him if you if
- 39:49Speaker 1: you talked about sending him to Green Bay, a team
- 39:53Speaker 1: like that that that has a quarterback stability, has you know,
- 39:58Speaker 1: talent around, but no true number one receiver, Sure that
- 40:03Speaker 1: would make sense. Is that somewhere A J. Brown would
- 40:06Speaker 1: want to go. I don't think so. But there aren't
- 40:10Speaker 1: a lot of scenarios where you trade him and his
- 40:15Speaker 1: his chances at winning a Super Bowl increase. So I
- 40:19Speaker 1: think if you're talking about playing winning football, he stays
- 40:22Speaker 1: in Philadelphia and just tries to weather the storm, tries
- 40:27Speaker 1: to weather the storm because he's not gonna get them
- 40:30Speaker 1: out of yards and targets unless you know, something changes
- 40:33Speaker 1: dramatically from the last couple of years. If he goes
- 40:39Speaker 1: somewhere else, he could get his targets, be the number one,
- 40:43Speaker 1: But I don't think they're gonna win a lot. There's
- 40:45Speaker 1: there's not a lot of places. I mean, maybe Buffalo.
- 40:48Speaker 1: It's in them to Buffalo. You know, maybe he'd get
- 40:50Speaker 1: the targets and be the number one, But do you
- 40:51Speaker 1: want to go to Buffalo. They have great fans, and
- 40:54Speaker 1: they have great, great wings out there, and they have
- 40:58Speaker 1: a they have a really good ques quarterback. You'd get
- 41:00Speaker 1: your targets. But is that where you want to go? Uh?
- 41:03Speaker 1: The Patriots just picked up Romeo Dobbs, but I'm sure
- 41:06Speaker 1: they still have room and which you want to go
- 41:09Speaker 1: there and play in New England. It's it's not a
- 41:11Speaker 1: super strong division. Miami just let go of Tyreek Keel,
- 41:16Speaker 1: Do you want to go to Miami and and and
- 41:18Speaker 1: you know, have a good time and maybe win a
- 41:22Speaker 1: couple of football games. But I don't think there are
- 41:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl contenders as of yet. I think that that
- 41:27Speaker 1: Jeff Hafley is gonna gonna do a great job turning
- 41:31Speaker 1: that program around, uh, getting them back into winning habits.
- 41:35Speaker 1: But it's gonna take a year or two. So I
- 41:38Speaker 1: don't see a lot of ideal situations for him. Now.
- 41:41Speaker 1: If if they would have he would have traded him
- 41:42Speaker 1: to the Rams, that would have been a very very
- 41:45Speaker 1: interesting scenario with him and and uh and Matthew Stafford.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I mean, wow, that that you just start to explore
- 41:54Speaker 1: that thought and begin starting not to ed. I go, okay,
- 41:57Speaker 1: all right, now, yeah, you cook them with grease, it
- 42:00Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense. But outside of that, it
- 42:02Speaker 1: doesn't make a ton of sense. You know, it's a
- 42:05Speaker 1: quick thought and then it's gone because they have Devonte
- 42:08Speaker 1: Adams poop in Nicula and everything they already have going on.
- 42:11Speaker 1: They just had a substantial amount of success with that team,
- 42:15Speaker 1: made it all the way to the NFC Championship. Just
- 42:17Speaker 1: ran into a jugger out of the Seattle Seahawks in
- 42:19Speaker 1: Seattle and weren't able to overcome that. But do you
- 42:25Speaker 1: do you end up with the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar
- 42:28Speaker 1: Jackson and their revamped system. I don't know. Do you
- 42:32Speaker 1: do you end up with the Pittsburgh series? There's so
- 42:34Speaker 1: many You know, we can go what ifs all all
- 42:36Speaker 1: day long, But are any of those situations better than
- 42:39Speaker 1: the situation he's in now in terms of winning football?
- 42:42Speaker 1: And I don't think there they are.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Richard. Oftentimes, when we're doing this podcast, breaking news breaks
- 42:48Speaker 2: and we were just talking about quarterbacks that are you know,
- 42:52Speaker 2: I have an opportunity to revitalize, to revive their careers.
- 42:55Speaker 2: And while we're recording, Justin Fields just gets traded to
- 42:59Speaker 2: the Kansas City Chiefs from the Jets. So you know,
- 43:03Speaker 2: obviously the Kansas City Chiefs are gonna need a quarterback
- 43:06Speaker 2: to come in and play the first month, month and
- 43:09Speaker 2: a half until Mahomes gets his feedback under him for
- 43:12Speaker 2: coming back from this ACL injury. Your initial thoughts, and
- 43:16Speaker 2: I know this is just me throwing it at you.
- 43:18Speaker 2: You're hearing it for the first time. Justin Fields gets
- 43:20Speaker 2: traded to the Chiefs. Do you like this fit for him?
- 43:23Speaker 2: Do you like this fit for their organization?
- 43:42Speaker 1: It's something, it's something Mitchell, Do I like it for
- 43:49Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs?
- 43:54Speaker 2: I guess he's an athlete, man, I mean.
- 43:57Speaker 1: An incredible athlete, But you also got to be able
- 44:01Speaker 1: to throw the football down the field. And there were
- 44:04Speaker 1: times that it seemed like the New York Jets were
- 44:10Speaker 1: averse to throwing the ball down the field. And Andy
- 44:16Speaker 1: Reid is a fantastic coach and developer. He's and I
- 44:21Speaker 1: don't think he gets the credit he deserves for that
- 44:23Speaker 1: because he's always, you know, kind of had quarterbacks and
- 44:27Speaker 1: you know that you feel good about. But this would
- 44:31Speaker 1: be his swan song. If Andy Reid can turn Justin
- 44:36Speaker 1: Fields into what you saw at Ohio State or any
- 44:41Speaker 1: semblance of that quarterback. Then, boy, I tell you his
- 44:46Speaker 1: Hall of Fame resume is stamped. It's already stamped, but boy,
- 44:49Speaker 1: it's stamped with black ink, with permanent ink. Baby, And
- 44:56Speaker 1: you gotta trust that they see, they see the makings
- 45:01Speaker 1: in the clay that they can mold into some wins,
- 45:06Speaker 1: into comparable and competent quarterback play. Obviously, they got K nine,
- 45:12Speaker 1: so they're gonna run the football. That's where they're gonna
- 45:14Speaker 1: butter their bread. They have Thornton and Xavier Worthy, and
- 45:19Speaker 1: Travis says he's coming back, so he has that safety blanket.
- 45:24Speaker 1: But this is gonna be a work in progress. And
- 45:26Speaker 1: if he does, and if they do turn Justin fields
- 45:30Speaker 1: back into the Justin fields that came out of Ohio State,
- 45:37Speaker 1: I think that's fantastic and I love that for everybody involved.
- 45:40Speaker 1: But it's also an indictment on the New York Jets.
- 45:42Speaker 1: But what's not an indictment on the New York Jets.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I mean, Gino is coming back. He's coming home after
- 45:51Speaker 1: going full circle and reviving his career becoming a pro
- 45:54Speaker 1: bowler outside of New York, He's coming back to New
- 45:57Speaker 1: York a pro bowler to potentially revived the Jets. That's
- 46:01Speaker 1: gonna be if he does. I'd love that for Gino,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I would love that. That'd be fantastic, that'd be That'd
- 46:08Speaker 1: be something I could get behind. But right now it's tough.
- 46:10Speaker 1: It's tough for New York fans, the Jets and the Giants.
- 46:13Speaker 1: I'm sorry, guys.
- 46:14Speaker 2: We'll see what Justin Fields provides in Kansas City. He
- 46:17Speaker 2: was electric tech times in Chicago, but a lot of
- 46:19Speaker 2: the electricity we saw with these eighty yard runs. So
- 46:23Speaker 2: can he get the arm active? You know, there's obviously
- 46:25Speaker 2: some safety blankets he can throw to inin Travis Kelce.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Like you said, he's got kN nine, Rashi Rice, etc.
- 46:32Speaker 2: So they're gonna lean on them. Depending the health of
- 46:36Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes, Justin Fields may be called on early this season.
- 46:40Speaker 2: So eyes are on you, Andy Reid. Let's see how
- 46:43Speaker 2: this plays out, Richard. We got a handful of big
- 46:45Speaker 2: names still on the free agency list right now. It's
- 46:49Speaker 2: funny how free agency works. They talk about it waves,
- 46:52Speaker 2: you know, the first wave of free agencies, all these
- 46:54Speaker 2: big guys getting paid their big money. Second wave. His
- 46:57Speaker 2: team's kind of trying to take discounts now we look
- 47:00Speaker 2: at the third wave of the veterans who are looking
- 47:03Speaker 2: for the perfect fit for how they want to play
- 47:05Speaker 2: out the next you know, year or two before they
- 47:07Speaker 2: call it today in the NFL. Some of these names
- 47:10Speaker 2: on this list are big names.
- 47:12Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:13Speaker 2: We'll start off the top. Juwan Jennings, right, I mean
- 47:16Speaker 2: this guy San Francisco forty nine Ers, battled injuries, became
- 47:20Speaker 2: the really number one wide receiver for the forty nine
- 47:23Speaker 2: ers this past year. It looks like they've moved on
- 47:27Speaker 2: bringing a Mike Evans, but maybe I'm wrong. Where do
- 47:29Speaker 2: you think the best fit is for Juwan Jennings.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I think the best fit is in San Francisco, but
- 47:38Speaker 1: maybe not in the world that he sees for himself.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Because you bring in Mike Evans, you have a true one.
- 47:44Speaker 1: You feel like person all is your z he's two
- 47:48Speaker 1: and he I feel like Juwan is far removed from
- 47:52Speaker 1: from accepting that third and Juwan role that that really
- 47:58Speaker 1: helped him get on the field because he's earned it.
- 48:00Speaker 1: He's got a lot of pass he's played well. Should
- 48:03Speaker 1: have been Super Bowl MVP of the twenty twenty three
- 48:05Speaker 1: Super Bowl if they would have won that Super Bowl.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I think he would have been MVP of it. But
- 48:11Speaker 1: if he's willing to move back into that number three role,
- 48:14Speaker 1: which is I'm not a you're going out to free agency.
- 48:19Speaker 1: You're seeing how it is. It hasn't been great so far,
- 48:22Speaker 1: but maybe there are conversations behind closed doors that we
- 48:25Speaker 1: aren't privy to. But I think if he does come
- 48:29Speaker 1: back to San Francisco, he does slot right back into
- 48:34Speaker 1: that receiver three role. He does steal all the things
- 48:38Speaker 1: that were true about him before are true about him now.
- 48:41Speaker 1: He's a great culture guy. This team loves him. I
- 48:43Speaker 1: don't think there's bad blood by any stretch of the
- 48:46Speaker 1: imagination there. I think this is what the San Francisco
- 48:49Speaker 1: forty nine ers. It's the only way they could show
- 48:52Speaker 1: him is to allow him to see free agency and
- 48:54Speaker 1: allow him to see, Hey, you see what's out there.
- 48:57Speaker 1: It's not what you thought it was. It's not maybe
- 48:59Speaker 1: what you thought it would be. Now you can come
- 49:01Speaker 1: back home. That's why we offered you the deals that
- 49:04Speaker 1: we offered you, because the grass isn't always greener on
- 49:08Speaker 1: the other side, and sometimes at times it is, but
- 49:11Speaker 1: this time it's not. And so if you're willing to
- 49:14Speaker 1: come back, we still love you, We still want you
- 49:16Speaker 1: to be here. We still have a role for you.
- 49:18Speaker 1: It's not as big of a role as you've had
- 49:20Speaker 1: in previous seasons. But as everybody has seen at times
- 49:23Speaker 1: fingers crossed, knock on wood, things happen in San Francisco
- 49:27Speaker 1: at times, and roles changed throughout the season, and you know,
- 49:32Speaker 1: you look up and KB has ten catches for over
- 49:35Speaker 1: one hundred yards against the Rams a week after getting
- 49:40Speaker 1: there and becomes the go to guy in LA. So
- 49:45Speaker 1: crazy things happened during the football season. I think he
- 49:47Speaker 1: recognizes that. Obviously he's gonna continue to weigh his options.
- 49:53Speaker 1: But we'll see how that situation. But the Brandon Ayuk
- 49:56Speaker 1: situation is interesting too. I see a lot of people
- 49:59Speaker 1: come and on that that the forty nine ers are
- 50:02Speaker 1: holding him hostage and it's unfair and they're doing wrong
- 50:05Speaker 1: by him, And I want to give my two cents
- 50:09Speaker 1: on that. I don't think so. I think I think
- 50:14Speaker 1: the opposite, because what would Brandon ay fetch in free
- 50:20Speaker 1: agency right now, coming off of major injury, no tape
- 50:25Speaker 1: for this season. You know, whatever you feel about his
- 50:28Speaker 1: reputation with the San Francisco forty nine Ers or the
- 50:31Speaker 1: league et cetera, et cetera. His contract right now is
- 50:35Speaker 1: for almost thirty million dollars a year. If they cut him,
- 50:41Speaker 1: contracts torn up, thrown away, and somebody's going to resign
- 50:45Speaker 1: him for a one year prove it kind of deal,
- 50:49Speaker 1: six seven million dollars, maybe eight up to twelve or
- 50:52Speaker 1: whatever whatever you think it is. I'm not sure what
- 50:54Speaker 1: the numbers would be, but it wouldn't be thirty if
- 50:57Speaker 1: they trade him. Brandon Ayuk's contract trades to whatever team
- 51:03Speaker 1: that he goes to. So everybody's talking about the Commanders,
- 51:06Speaker 1: Let's just talk about the Commanders because that's the team
- 51:09Speaker 1: that he's linked to most often. If they trade him
- 51:12Speaker 1: to the Commanders, he's under the contract that he signed
- 51:15Speaker 1: with the San Francisco forty nine Ers, not a one
- 51:17Speaker 1: year proved deal. Now there's no guaranteed money, so it
- 51:20Speaker 1: technically be a one year proved deal, but it'd be
- 51:22Speaker 1: a one year proved deal for I think twenty seven
- 51:24Speaker 1: million dollars. So if I'm Brandon ay that's the situation
- 51:29Speaker 1: I want to be in. I want to be where
- 51:30Speaker 1: you're trading me in my contract to the new team
- 51:33Speaker 1: so that I'm not on a one year eight million
- 51:36Speaker 1: dollar proven deal. I'm on the contract that I've been
- 51:39Speaker 1: on and if I play well, then that contract just
- 51:41Speaker 1: continues as it should. And so I'm I don't know.
- 51:46Speaker 1: I'm not in the camp of people that say this
- 51:49Speaker 1: is San Francisco forty nine ers are doing wrong by him.
- 51:52Speaker 1: They're doing what's what's in their best business interests. But
- 51:57Speaker 1: if I'm Brandon Ayuk, it's also in my best business
- 51:59Speaker 1: interest because if they cut me, then I have to
- 52:02Speaker 1: convince a team that I'm worth thirty million dollars and hey,
- 52:06Speaker 1: could you pay me a twenty seven million dollars for
- 52:08Speaker 1: next season, even if it's a one year deal. That's
- 52:10Speaker 1: tougher to do. If they trade you, that's already your contract.
- 52:13Speaker 1: So I think that's a big deal that people are ignoring.
- 52:17Speaker 1: If they trade him, they're trading his contract, and I'm
- 52:21Speaker 1: sure that the agent is in those conversations and everybody else.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Would you rather be cut and try to resign and
- 52:28Speaker 1: convince a team coming off a knee injury that hey,
- 52:31Speaker 1: I'm worth thirty million dollars or just trade your contract
- 52:35Speaker 1: and go over there and play under this contract that
- 52:37Speaker 1: you had already signed. I think he would agree and
- 52:40Speaker 1: everybody else in his camp would agree. We just want
- 52:42Speaker 1: to trade the contract. Trade me, get a seventh round pick,
- 52:45Speaker 1: get whatever you want, get the most mystery irrelevant. You
- 52:47Speaker 1: see what you did with mystery irrelevant. You turn them
- 52:50Speaker 1: into a pro bowler, one of the most efficient quarterbacks
- 52:53Speaker 1: in the National Football League. So if you can get
- 52:55Speaker 1: a seventh round pick and you're in San Francisco for
- 52:58Speaker 1: a nine ers, that works in your best business and
- 53:00Speaker 1: it also works in Brandon Ayyuk's best business interest because
- 53:04Speaker 1: he gets paid what he would have gotten paid last
- 53:06Speaker 1: year for the San Francisco forty niners.
- 53:08Speaker 2: I agree, like you say, I agree, And at the
- 53:11Speaker 2: end of the day, this is a business. San Francisco
- 53:14Speaker 2: forty nine ers have a interest in getting assets in
- 53:17Speaker 2: return for him, so it all makes sense on both sides.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Next on this list, Richard is a friend of the program.
- 53:23Speaker 2: I know one of your best friends, Bobby Wagner. You
- 53:25Speaker 2: know who continues to get it done. The first ballot
- 53:29Speaker 2: Hall of Famer. I don't care what anyone says. What
- 53:32Speaker 2: do you think the best fit is for him? Is
- 53:34Speaker 2: it back to Washington or do you think he goes elsewhere.
- 53:39Speaker 1: That's tough because it's mike linebacker and it's not quarterback.
- 53:43Speaker 1: But you only got one and you got the green
- 53:45Speaker 1: dot on your helmet, and usually you want that position
- 53:51Speaker 1: feeled before OTA's and all that. I'm not sure where
- 53:55Speaker 1: the best fit is for right now for Bobby. Is
- 53:59Speaker 1: it back in one Washington, I'm not sure. Obviously that's familiarity,
- 54:04Speaker 1: you know, that's he has Kenny Norton there, he has
- 54:07Speaker 1: Dan Quinn. But I mean, I'm sure he would love
- 54:12Speaker 1: to come back to Seattle. But they have Ernest Jones,
- 54:16Speaker 1: they have Tyrese Knight. It's it's it's one of those situations.
- 54:20Speaker 1: They feel really comfortable with the the guys they have
- 54:24Speaker 1: in house. They do. They do a fantastic job. They're
- 54:28Speaker 1: they're really elite players. They have a great locker room.
- 54:31Speaker 1: And Bobby Wagner's not a backup linebacker and he's not
- 54:34Speaker 1: a special teams guy, and I don't think they would
- 54:35Speaker 1: disrespect him by asking him to do that. So it's interesting.
- 54:41Speaker 1: It's interesting. I mean, he could play, he can play
- 54:44Speaker 1: at a high level, so that's not that's not in question.
- 54:48Speaker 1: I mean, is he at the level that he used
- 54:49Speaker 1: to be? No quest? No father time is undefeated and
- 54:53Speaker 1: nobody's uh in in year What is this fifteen for
- 54:56Speaker 1: Bobby gonna be playing at the same level as they
- 54:59Speaker 1: were playing at a year two were three. But it's
- 55:01Speaker 1: a reason why he's an eleven time All Pro and
- 55:04Speaker 1: Pro Bowler because of what he's able to do in
- 55:08Speaker 1: his mind and how fast he processes the National Football League.
- 55:11Speaker 1: But I'm not sure, you know, I got to call
- 55:15Speaker 1: Bob and ask him where he feels like he wants
- 55:17Speaker 1: to go. Maybe we'll have him on the show and
- 55:19Speaker 1: talk about it.
- 55:20Speaker 2: There you go next next his former San Francisco forty
- 55:24Speaker 2: nine or Deebo Samuel free agent now after playing with
- 55:27Speaker 2: the Commanders. You know obviously his game, he's he's a bruiser,
- 55:33Speaker 2: he's a yack guy. And you know, where do you
- 55:35Speaker 2: think he fits best? There's a lot of teams that
- 55:37Speaker 2: need wide receivers still, But the question is how much
- 55:40Speaker 2: does he want to win? I mean, obviously you go
- 55:42Speaker 2: to the Raiders, et cetera. But where where do you
- 55:45Speaker 2: think is the best fit for Debo at this stage
- 55:48Speaker 2: in his career?
- 55:50Speaker 1: San Francisco, everywhere, look.
- 55:54Speaker 2: Back to San Francisco.
- 55:56Speaker 1: It all leads back home for these guys, because that's
- 56:01Speaker 1: where he's had his greatest success. And obviously things have
- 56:05Speaker 1: changed for him in a number of ways, but in
- 56:09Speaker 1: terms of somebody who understands his talents and the way
- 56:12Speaker 1: to use him best, it's San Francisco and Kyle Shanahan.
- 56:16Speaker 1: I think Kyle he had an all Pro season in
- 56:20Speaker 1: San Francisco because Kyle uses him in very unique ways
- 56:24Speaker 1: that really really showcase his abilities in really cool fashions.
- 56:28Speaker 1: And again with Mike Evans in the fold, he takes
- 56:32Speaker 1: so much pressure off everyone else, and he's a guy that, hey, standalone,
- 56:40Speaker 1: I can get open, i can play receiver. I'm a one.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Give me the ball and get out of the way.
- 56:45Speaker 1: And I think that opens up things for Debo and
- 56:51Speaker 1: Persaul and Kittle and Christian McCaffrey and everybody else in
- 56:55Speaker 1: this offense that already thrives. And I think bringing Deebo
- 56:58Speaker 1: back may not make sense for maybe it's not even
- 57:01Speaker 1: in the cards or interest John Lynch in the San
- 57:03Speaker 1: Francisco forty nine ers or anybody. And I'm just throwing
- 57:06Speaker 1: stuff against the wall. This is my speculation in my
- 57:09Speaker 1: two cents, and I'm not taking this because I have
- 57:12Speaker 1: information anywhere else, but I think it makes sense there.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Robert Sala has has watched Deebo Samuel have success in
- 57:23Speaker 1: a big way and they need receivers in Tennessee. Does
- 57:27Speaker 1: that make sense for Deebo Samuel to be there. I'm
- 57:29Speaker 1: not sure that that's something he has to ask. They
- 57:31Speaker 1: just they just picked up a receiver, and I think
- 57:36Speaker 1: if they get him for an affordable price, I think
- 57:39Speaker 1: that could potentially make sense there. Again, Miami Dolphins just
- 57:41Speaker 1: give up Tyreek Keel. Not that they're the same type
- 57:44Speaker 1: of receiver or anything like that, but again, he can
- 57:47Speaker 1: play receiver in the National Football League, So a number
- 57:50Speaker 1: of these teams that have openings would make sense to
- 57:54Speaker 1: bring him in. Does Kevin O'Connell and the Minnesota Vikings
- 57:57Speaker 1: as a receiver three gadget guy and guy that can
- 58:00Speaker 1: you know, can help the run games make sense? Maybe?
- 58:05Speaker 1: You know, Again, this is all speculation. This is National
- 58:07Speaker 1: Football League. If Deebo Samuel is motivated, he can make
- 58:11Speaker 1: a lot of plays and he can make an offense
- 58:13Speaker 1: even more explosive in my personal opinion.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Next on this list is one close to home for me.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Taylor Decker the Detroit Lions. He announces that he's coming back.
- 58:23Speaker 2: There was a lot of speculation coming into the offseason
- 58:25Speaker 2: that he was going to hang him up. He battled
- 58:27Speaker 2: a pretty significant shoulder injury all year long, was in
- 58:30Speaker 2: and out of the lineup, didn't practice often. He alects
- 58:35Speaker 2: to come back, and the Lions asked him to take
- 58:37Speaker 2: a pay cut, and ultimately he's released. He still hasn't
- 58:41Speaker 2: found a home. I'm kind of like you, Richard. I
- 58:44Speaker 2: feel like the best place for him is not to
- 58:46Speaker 2: lead Detroit and to stay here. This team needs help
- 58:50Speaker 2: on the offensive line. You know what you're getting out
- 58:53Speaker 2: of Taylor Decker. Yes, he is a little bit injury
- 58:56Speaker 2: prone at the stage in his career. But Richard, you
- 58:59Speaker 2: battled injuries. Do you think that this is the best
- 59:01Speaker 2: move is for him to come back to Detroit? What
- 59:03Speaker 2: do you think the market is like for him out there?
- 59:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's probably a little soft right now,
- 59:10Speaker 1: but it's hard to find get off into the lineman,
- 59:13Speaker 1: especially tackles in the National Football League. Just competent tackle play,
- 59:17Speaker 1: and I think that's something a lot of teams like,
- 59:19Speaker 1: if you're the Cincinnati Bengals, you don't call Taylor Decker.
- 59:24Speaker 1: If you're the Kansas City Chiefs, you don't call Taylor Decker.
- 59:27Speaker 1: I mean a lot of these teams, Like, there are
- 59:30Speaker 1: a lot of teams out there that could call and
- 59:33Speaker 1: kick the Tyler tires on Taylor Decker and see what
- 59:37Speaker 1: his price is and see if it makes sense. I
- 59:40Speaker 1: think there are a ton of teams that could use
- 59:43Speaker 1: his services. And obviously health would be a big issue,
- 59:45Speaker 1: and I'm sure that'd be baked into the contract. But
- 59:49Speaker 1: I have a hard time seeing him go back to
- 59:53Speaker 1: Detroit unless the number is unless he just gets no
- 59:58Speaker 1: market and is forced to. But I think for as
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: poor as offensive line play overall has been in the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: National Football League, and how solid Taylor Decker has been
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: uh for for a good portion of his career, I
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: think he'll get He'll get an offer that pulls him away.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: And then finally a name I'm actually quite shocked is
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: still available. David Nijoku, tight end from the Cleveland Browns.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: He's had a lot of success over the last couple
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: of years. Obviously, they brought in the rookie last year
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: in Cleveland who had a ton of success, and that
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: ultimately pushes David Nijoku out the door. But I'm shocked
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Rich that this guy who's been really I would say
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: a very stable force for that offense, and I would
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: consider him. You know, the upper half of tight ends
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: in this league is still available. What do you think
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: the best fit is for David Njoko And why do
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: you think he's still available at this point?
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: It's interesting. I have no idea why he's still I
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: thought he was a really solid tight end. I thought
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: a number of teams would would reach out. Again, there
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: are teams that that are depleted offensively that I think
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: he could help, But I don't know if it's an
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: injury concern. I have no idea. Uh, he's he's he's
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: been a good playmaker in Cleveland. I thought he'd get
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: have a much more solid market than than he's had.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: So this is a mystery to me. But uh, free
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: agency isn't done, so I couldn't tell you. Because he
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: plays tight end. You know, tight ends are versatile. A
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: lot of teams have him. A lot of teams invest
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: in that position, and he's a tight end one and
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: not a tight end too, So we'll we'll have to
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: wait and see. You know, it's a wait and see
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: situation there. There are a lot of teams that he
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: makes sense on that. I think he could help, but
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: right now, I mean it could be anybody.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: It is a deep draft for tight ends, especially in
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: the middle rounds, so maybe teams are waiting on that
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: as well.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Richard.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: It's always a pleasure sitting down for you with you.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: The free agency period is still underway. You know, it's
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: not as much hoopla as last week, but I'm expecting
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: some big name signings this week. I will let you
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: sign us off my man.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Well, we appreciate you guys joining us. You could be
