Hip Hop lost a true pioneer: Keith Caesar, aka Keith Keith of Funky 4 + 1, passed at 64 after medical complications. A Bronx native and lifelong resident of the Frederick Douglass Houses, he helped define early Hip Hop by taking park jams to records and becoming the first group to perform on SNL in 1981. Their anthem “That’s the Joint” broke barriers, spotlighted Sha-Rock as a trailblazing female MC, and influenced generations — sampled by Beastie Boys and De La Soul, named one of VH1’s greatest Hip Hop songs.
