- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is Spoiling Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes eight forty seven, eight forty eight,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and eight forty nine, A coincidental reunion Sanjy and the
- 0:22Speaker 1: Love Struck, Evil Pudding, Save the Sunny, Fighting Bravely, Chopper
- 0:27Speaker 1: and Brook, and Before the Dawn. Pedro, the captain of
- 0:31Speaker 1: the Guardians. In these episodes, this Parisparo guy is a
- 0:39Speaker 1: real bummer. I don't like his power, I don't like
- 0:44Speaker 1: his attitude, I don't like his aesthetic. I don't like
- 0:46Speaker 1: this man. And I resent that Pedro has to do
- 0:52Speaker 1: what he does because I am sure he's still alive
- 0:56Speaker 1: in the end, but uh, I just don't like asking
- 0:59Speaker 1: this of him. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the
- 1:21Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:25Speaker 1: Mina for commissioning this episode and forbearing with me when
- 1:28Speaker 1: I had to reschedule it again. Apologies everybody. I know
- 1:33Speaker 1: that this is probably just tedious for you all as well,
- 1:40Speaker 1: So these episodes are you know. It's the sort of
- 1:44Speaker 1: thing where there isn't a lot of forward movement on
- 1:47Speaker 1: the plot, really, but we do get to see the
- 1:50Speaker 1: motivations of a particular character a little bit more close up.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And I'll be honest, guys, I don't think that I
- 2:01Speaker 1: would care very much about Paedro if it weren't for
- 2:05Speaker 1: the fact that he's obviously a hattie, right like being
- 2:11Speaker 1: a tiger man. Aside or perhaps not, depending on your interests,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I suppose he has got it, and so I just
- 2:24Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just going to care a little bit more.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He has the strong, silent thing going on, very capable,
- 2:31Speaker 1: sort of questionable backstory, kind of a bad boy thing.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It's all very much working for him, and I like
- 2:43Speaker 1: getting to see his past. It's a again, I feel
- 2:50Speaker 1: like I'm interested despite myself. The thing about a motivation
- 2:58Speaker 1: like this is that it feels a little bit vague
- 3:02Speaker 1: sometimes in a way that's like generic feeling, I guess,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and I'll be honest, I'm not really like able to
- 3:14Speaker 1: pull a name out to give an example of like
- 3:17Speaker 1: somebody else who also had this sort of thing. But
- 3:21Speaker 1: I don't think it's out of line for me to
- 3:23Speaker 1: say that we have come across characters in one Piece
- 3:27Speaker 1: who are driven by the idea that there is like
- 3:31Speaker 1: a better world coming in that there's a particular person
- 3:34Speaker 1: who's going to be at the forefront of that, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: that these straw hats are those people. Right, I'm pretty
- 3:44Speaker 1: sure that we have seen this before, and I mean,
- 3:47Speaker 1: one could argue that's what's going on with Jimbay. Also,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I just all all I'm wanting to like sort of
- 3:56Speaker 1: preface this with is I recognize that Pedro's motivation isn't
- 4:03Speaker 1: great to me, It's not super compelling, but I'm fine
- 4:09Speaker 1: with it just because I like Pedro, and that's kind
- 4:12Speaker 1: of mitigating that for me. So I just always like
- 4:17Speaker 1: to sort of cop to whatever my personal bias is
- 4:21Speaker 1: in covering something because it's there. And sometimes I'll dislike
- 4:26Speaker 1: something that's perfectly good just because I'm a hater, you know,
- 4:29Speaker 1: of whatever that particular character is, or maybe the plot
- 4:31Speaker 1: line itself. I'm just like, oh no, and that'll happen also.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So anyway, I uh this, like, we don't get that
- 4:44Speaker 1: much of Loofy in these episodes. We are focusing pretty
- 4:47Speaker 1: much on everybody else. He gets a little bit of
- 4:51Speaker 1: screen time. He's up against uh Krue. I just had
- 4:58Speaker 1: his name and then I lost it and keep getting
- 5:00Speaker 1: it and losing it. This guy who has a power
- 5:05Speaker 1: that I thought I understood, and now it seems like
- 5:07Speaker 1: there's another aspect to it that I wasn't aware of.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So it's that's sort of interesting in that there's like
- 5:15Speaker 1: a look Oda loves doing this, right, showing us a
- 5:20Speaker 1: bit of somebody's power, and then being like psych It's not.
- 5:23Speaker 1: That's not the only thing. But what I think is
- 5:26Speaker 1: so interesting about it here is just that what is
- 5:30Speaker 1: going on with this dude is really similar to what
- 5:32Speaker 1: Lufy has happening inasmuch as he has like this ranged
- 5:37Speaker 1: attack thing going on, and also he can make himself
- 5:43Speaker 1: incorporeal so that when Lufy is like coming at him
- 5:48Speaker 1: with his gatling, nothing happens, and eventually he just it's
- 5:55Speaker 1: almost like he manages to like basically grasp Lufy's wrist
- 5:59Speaker 1: and pull him. And in most of like out of
- 6:05Speaker 1: these three episodes, that's really almost everything that's going on
- 6:10Speaker 1: with Lufy right now is simply that he is, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: facing somebody that he I don't know if I want
- 6:18Speaker 1: to say underestimated exactly, but at least he didn't fully
- 6:22Speaker 1: understand who it was he was up against and is
- 6:25Speaker 1: starting to get a sense of I may have fucked
- 6:28Speaker 1: up by the way I earn Well, I don't. I
- 6:32Speaker 1: don't know that Lufy has literally ever thought I've I
- 6:38Speaker 1: may have fucked up. Do you guys think that he
- 6:39Speaker 1: has ever thought that? Not? I stop and consider it.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm wondering, because like, even when he has actually fucked up,
- 6:48Speaker 1: it's I feel like Lufy has the sort of attitude
- 6:51Speaker 1: where it's like I learned something or got I met someone,
- 6:56Speaker 1: or I you know, like I don't. I guess Lufy's
- 7:00Speaker 1: just so in the moment and so very like convinced
- 7:03Speaker 1: a lot of the time that everything works out in
- 7:06Speaker 1: the end that I don't think that he really ever
- 7:09Speaker 1: has felt he really fucked up. God, can you imagine
- 7:14Speaker 1: how freeing that would be to be someone who genuinely
- 7:19Speaker 1: is never conscious of a mistake in that sort of way,
- 7:26Speaker 1: you know, kind of a nightmare for the people around you,
- 7:30Speaker 1: as we have seen, but nevertheless, wow, really just kind
- 7:36Speaker 1: of an ideal way to live in certain senses. So anyway,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I am going to back up a little bit here,
- 7:45Speaker 1: and we're going to start at the beginning of A
- 7:46Speaker 1: forty seven, where it's Brooke and Chopper like they're in
- 7:54Speaker 1: their little submarine that looks like a shark coming at
- 7:58Speaker 1: the sunny and they're trying to assess whether or not
- 8:02Speaker 1: these straw hats are already there, and they see silhouettes
- 8:07Speaker 1: on the deck of the ship and assume that's our friends,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and uh, you know, unsurprisingly, no, it's not. We all
- 8:18Speaker 1: saw this one coming. So they come up and they're
- 8:23Speaker 1: like surfacing, just yelling like hey, sorry to hold everybody up,
- 8:27Speaker 1: but we're here finally. And then there's the slow reveal
- 8:30Speaker 1: as everybody comes into focus that like, oh no, these
- 8:34Speaker 1: are these are enemies as as enemy ish as it's
- 8:38Speaker 1: possible to get. I feel like it's Brooke who says
- 8:42Speaker 1: something like that, because Chopper says, those aren't our friends,
- 8:45Speaker 1: and he's like, yeah, about as opposite of that as
- 8:47Speaker 1: it gets. Now. I'm not criticizing their approach here, just
- 8:56Speaker 1: you know, want to make that clear, because there have
- 9:01Speaker 1: been I don't want to say that there's been a
- 9:05Speaker 1: lot of people that like are not really as awesome
- 9:09Speaker 1: or tough as they have seemed. The people that we
- 9:12Speaker 1: have encountered a lot of the time so far in
- 9:14Speaker 1: this arc have been pretty competent actually, all things considered.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You know, the kinds of baddies that we've met before
- 9:22Speaker 1: this is a respectable group, I would say, But I
- 9:28Speaker 1: can understand between the two of them looking at this
- 9:32Speaker 1: fucking dude on the deck of the ship and the
- 9:36Speaker 1: henchman that he's got with him, I can understand very
- 9:40Speaker 1: much why Brooke and Chopper are like, oh, yeah, we
- 9:44Speaker 1: can take him, no problem, we got it. I want
- 9:50Speaker 1: them to feel that way, you know what I'm saying,
- 9:53Speaker 1: like this is I endorse this approach, but they just
- 9:59Speaker 1: really misjudged this one. And Parispero. I feel like I
- 10:06Speaker 1: have a really strong reaction every time we meet a
- 10:10Speaker 1: bad guy who has one of these logia type abilities,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you know, when you are able to basically engulf a person.
- 10:22Speaker 1: It just really gives me the ick. It's like a
- 10:27Speaker 1: just a real specific type of nope for me. And
- 10:31Speaker 1: I don't think that it necessarily he counts as that
- 10:35Speaker 1: because he doesn't turn into candy himself, but he is
- 10:42Speaker 1: able to. Oh oh, oh, that's so weird. I'm sorry,
- 10:46Speaker 1: Sarah Fim, I just saw you in the chat. General
- 10:48Speaker 1: thought is he's meant to essentially be a logia. Oh
- 10:51Speaker 1: you're talking about Kategori. In the very first manga chapter,
- 10:55Speaker 1: it was said he had a logia but in every
- 10:56Speaker 1: other version it's been retconned into being a special pair
- 11:00Speaker 1: PARIMETHEA general thought is he's meant to essentially be alogia,
- 11:04Speaker 1: but since Mochi isn't an elemental power like all the rest,
- 11:06Speaker 1: it didn't fit, so got changed. Interesting Perispero isn't a
- 11:13Speaker 1: logia for the reason you noted. Okay, yeah, I'm not
- 11:16Speaker 1: really sure what to call it. When somebody can make
- 11:19Speaker 1: a bunch of a substance that's like malleable in this way,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know, because you've got people who can make there's
- 11:28Speaker 1: the ability to make things appear of a certain type
- 11:33Speaker 1: we have run into before, but some of those are
- 11:37Speaker 1: more flexible than others and more like easy to manipulate
- 11:43Speaker 1: than others. And any time that it is something that
- 11:47Speaker 1: you can like wrap somebody up in engulf them in it,
- 11:53Speaker 1: of course is deeply uncomfortable. But what we have in
- 11:58Speaker 1: this is not just the people are getting wrapped up
- 12:01Speaker 1: in it. I wish like, lookie, if only that were
- 12:06Speaker 1: all it were. But guys, this dude describes as he's like,
- 12:12Speaker 1: as we're all fighting, he manages to grab one of
- 12:18Speaker 1: Chopper's hoofs. Chopper transforms into his little fighty barrel chested
- 12:25Speaker 1: guy and he gets his footstuck, and for a second
- 12:30Speaker 1: it's just like, wait, what the fuck? And I'm thinking
- 12:38Speaker 1: that's sort of it. He can maybe be encased in
- 12:41Speaker 1: candy and trapped and kept from participating in the fight. Sure,
- 12:48Speaker 1: but that like inside there, maybe the one thing that
- 12:52Speaker 1: would be really you know, that he would be at
- 12:54Speaker 1: risk of is like perhaps suffocation right in the way
- 13:00Speaker 1: that any substance that blocks you from getting air would do.
- 13:05Speaker 1: This would not be unique to this candy that he
- 13:08Speaker 1: can produce. It would simply be the same sort of
- 13:12Speaker 1: byproduct of any substance. Wouldn't matter, no, because it can't
- 13:20Speaker 1: be simple, it can't be easy, it can't be non creepy.
- 13:26Speaker 1: This candy evidently like eats you alive, essentially, like what
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'm imagining is an acid where it penetrates your actual
- 13:40Speaker 1: flesh and slowly and painfully by the way, begins to
- 13:45Speaker 1: eat away at you until you turn into your whole
- 13:51Speaker 1: body actual candy. And like I already didn't like this,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you add that I hate it. I fucking hate watching
- 14:04Speaker 1: my little man Chopper get his mouth like filled with
- 14:07Speaker 1: candy against his will. I sort of hoped that we
- 14:10Speaker 1: were gonna have a U I know I've mentioned this before,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but I uh, Homer Simpson with the Donuts in Hell
- 14:15Speaker 1: scenario where he's pouring candy into Chopper's mouth, and Chopper
- 14:19Speaker 1: is just such a sweet freak that he eats and
- 14:22Speaker 1: eats and doesn't actually get tired of it or anything,
- 14:25Speaker 1: which would have been kind of fun, but it would
- 14:27Speaker 1: have been too easy and now and I know that,
- 14:29Speaker 1: and I don't really want that. I just don't like
- 14:33Speaker 1: seeing my boy get hurt. Okay, just fucking let me
- 14:36Speaker 1: have this. So all of that is already too much.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I don't like it. But then we get this weird
- 14:49Speaker 1: vibe off Perosparrow guys, And I don't know if it's
- 14:54Speaker 1: just me reading into this a little bit too much,
- 14:58Speaker 1: or if it's just like the Internet has rotted my
- 15:03Speaker 1: brain and so I think things that probably are not,
- 15:07Speaker 1: you know, it's just sort of more revealing of myself
- 15:09Speaker 1: than of the subject itself. But like a glint in
- 15:14Speaker 1: his eye that happens as Parisparro is describing what is
- 15:23Speaker 1: just about to occur to both Chopper and Brook, that
- 15:28Speaker 1: feels a little bit like sexual And I don't really
- 15:36Speaker 1: mean this, but what I do mean is more he's
- 15:41Speaker 1: getting off on this somehow. It may not be like
- 15:44Speaker 1: sexual explicitly, but Parisparrow loves this, really loves it. And
- 15:54Speaker 1: he says something about how excited he is that he
- 15:59Speaker 1: can't wait because soon they'll be nothing but candy corpses.
- 16:05Speaker 1: And I can't tell if he eats his victims or not,
- 16:11Speaker 1: but there was a distinct tone to me that he does,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and I, I don't know. I think that I'm probably
- 16:23Speaker 1: putting that on him and it's not really there, but
- 16:27Speaker 1: I feel that there is a way he's animated as
- 16:31Speaker 1: he says that, and a way the voice actor chose
- 16:34Speaker 1: to deliver the line that is underscoring it in a
- 16:37Speaker 1: way where it's very understandable why I'm drawing the conclusions
- 16:41Speaker 1: that I'm drawing. And I'm sure I'm not the only
- 16:43Speaker 1: one who maybe wondered about this. So Saraphim says, I
- 16:48Speaker 1: don't think it's eating them so much as just coding
- 16:50Speaker 1: every part of no. No, Seraphim, He says, it penetrates them.
- 16:54Speaker 1: That's the that's the word that he uses. And again,
- 16:59Speaker 1: maybe this is like a the what do you call it?
- 17:03Speaker 1: Translation thing? But like he explicitly is explaining it doesn't
- 17:09Speaker 1: just cover you, it gets inside you, into your body,
- 17:15Speaker 1: and that you become candy, and that it's super painful,
- 17:20Speaker 1: like that's that's what he's saying, as Chopper is getting
- 17:25Speaker 1: it poured down his throat and Brooke is stuck yelling
- 17:28Speaker 1: for him to stop, and just watching as poor Chopper
- 17:32Speaker 1: has his mouth filled and this like unable to help
- 17:35Speaker 1: or do anything. What I was sort of hoping was
- 17:38Speaker 1: that maybe that effect of the candy is not going
- 17:45Speaker 1: to work on Brook the same way because he isn't
- 17:48Speaker 1: made of flesh and blood. But it seems like it
- 17:51Speaker 1: doesn't matter that. You know, being alive is enough whether
- 17:56Speaker 1: or not, no matter what you're made out of. So
- 18:01Speaker 1: oh my god, I'm so sorry. Saraphim says, Nope, not
- 18:03Speaker 1: just you. He's a twisted creep that might be a
- 18:06Speaker 1: dub thing, but the sub he flat out says, then
- 18:09Speaker 1: I will lick you. I don't think that he says that,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but I may have missed it in the throes of
- 18:17Speaker 1: discomfort of this whole thing to begin with. I'm trying
- 18:22Speaker 1: to find the spot here because it's like a little
- 18:24Speaker 1: bit further in than I realized and it just like
- 18:28Speaker 1: I said, guys, I already was really horrified at his
- 18:32Speaker 1: ability because it's so adaptable, it's so flexible, and then
- 18:38Speaker 1: the fact that it can it can do this and
- 18:41Speaker 1: it causes you such pain as it's happening. It's just
- 18:44Speaker 1: really really awful. I really Parisparro later on. Honestly, what
- 18:51Speaker 1: he's sort of reminding me of due to this is
- 18:54Speaker 1: like Magneto, where he has this ability that is like
- 18:59Speaker 1: a lot more versatile than you really realized initially, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: now it's starting to become clearly like, oh, this is
- 19:07Speaker 1: a problem. But when he decides that he's going to
- 19:11Speaker 1: like get off the deck of the Sunny and he's
- 19:13Speaker 1: able to make a disc of candy on the surface
- 19:17Speaker 1: of the water that he just steps down onto. There
- 19:21Speaker 1: is a whole thing with Magneto in one of the
- 19:24Speaker 1: movies where he is able to make like disks of
- 19:27Speaker 1: metal that he is in a like at the top
- 19:30Speaker 1: of a turret that is supposed to be inescapable, and
- 19:33Speaker 1: he makes these discs for himself to step on that
- 19:36Speaker 1: move and he just you know, and it's a really
- 19:39Speaker 1: similar sort of esthetic and the moments those are I
- 19:46Speaker 1: always think in one piece. Those are the scariest moments
- 19:50Speaker 1: where somebody has an ability that has an application that
- 19:55Speaker 1: maybe did not occur to you initially, and then you
- 19:58Speaker 1: start to like see all of the potential and realize,
- 20:03Speaker 1: oh god, this is something that could be a really
- 20:07Speaker 1: big problem. And it's a like, I don't know how
- 20:14Speaker 1: you combat this. What Pedro winds up doing later is
- 20:21Speaker 1: blowing himself up with Parrosparo nearby, And you know, I
- 20:28Speaker 1: don't know, guys, maybe this is just because I don't
- 20:34Speaker 1: have a lot of like faith that things hurt people
- 20:39Speaker 1: in this universe. But I just don't think that's gonna
- 20:43Speaker 1: do the job. I would like for it to do
- 20:46Speaker 1: the job, obviously, but Parrosparro, I'm not really sure what
- 20:51Speaker 1: hurts him and what doesn't. I don't have a good
- 20:53Speaker 1: idea of that, and I don't it seems like the
- 20:56Speaker 1: explosion had little enough warning. I'm not sure exactly how
- 21:01Speaker 1: strong his candy is either, Like can he make a
- 21:04Speaker 1: coating around himself to protect himself like a shield, and
- 21:07Speaker 1: would it do enough to actually keep him from being hurt?
- 21:13Speaker 1: Questions that you know, we'll get answered eventually, But so yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: this this uh jumping away from this for a little while,
- 21:24Speaker 1: because like essentially both Chopper and Brooke get gripped up
- 21:29Speaker 1: by this guy, and by the time Nami and Jimbay
- 21:33Speaker 1: make it to the Sonny, they're completely encased and there
- 21:36Speaker 1: is nothing to be done. She like, when I say
- 21:42Speaker 1: there's nothing to be done, there's obviously like they're gonna
- 21:44Speaker 1: get out of this, but at the moment, it really
- 21:48Speaker 1: is sort of looking like we don't know what to
- 21:51Speaker 1: do for you, and we need to get on the
- 21:53Speaker 1: road and figure out how to fix this once we're
- 21:56Speaker 1: safely out of the harbor, so to speak. And I
- 22:03Speaker 1: don't know, like, again, how hard is the candy? How
- 22:09Speaker 1: strong is it? Is it the sort of thing where
- 22:12Speaker 1: you just get like a hammer and chisel and just
- 22:15Speaker 1: sort of break the coating and it comes off and
- 22:18Speaker 1: that's it, and you're good. I'm assuming that that's gonna
- 22:22Speaker 1: be the way it works, even though it being described
- 22:25Speaker 1: as actually getting inside you, it probably shouldn't, strictly speaking,
- 22:31Speaker 1: be how it works. But I just can't really get
- 22:34Speaker 1: mad about it because I just don't want my friends
- 22:37Speaker 1: to suffer, So it would be a really weird thing. Though,
- 22:41Speaker 1: like you know, in one piece, this is obviously like
- 22:46Speaker 1: not a thing, but in some properties, a person will
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know, they will get some sort of bizarre injury
- 22:55Speaker 1: that's really specific and there is an actually a great
- 23:00Speaker 1: way to heal them or combat that, and so it
- 23:05Speaker 1: winds up becoming an injury that they have to cope
- 23:08Speaker 1: with constantly until maybe eventually they get healed, but sometimes not.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And like, honestly, I can find that kind of interesting
- 23:20Speaker 1: when you decide that you're actually going to like factor
- 23:24Speaker 1: in almost a disability into a story, it can be
- 23:27Speaker 1: done in such a way that's genuinely like, it's interesting
- 23:32Speaker 1: to watch the problem solving of a character who is
- 23:35Speaker 1: faced with that kind of obstacle. So I wouldn't be
- 23:39Speaker 1: against it if we were if this were a different
- 23:43Speaker 1: property and these guys actually maintained some sort of a
- 23:47Speaker 1: serious injury due to this and we had to like
- 23:51Speaker 1: watch them figure out their body has partially turned a candy.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Now what are we gonna do? Honestly, i'd watch that,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I'd be about it, but I just I definitely don't
- 24:02Speaker 1: think that's what we're going to be dealing with here.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So there's a few I kind of like, I'm not
- 24:11Speaker 1: trying to be disrespectful of Brooke or Chopper here because
- 24:16Speaker 1: I definitely basically grazed right over their fight and the
- 24:21Speaker 1: fact that they do manage to take some guys out initially,
- 24:25Speaker 1: which makes them feel like pretty hot stuff. Again, I'm
- 24:29Speaker 1: not trying to like rain on their parade at all.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It's simply that in the end they get got. So
- 24:36Speaker 1: I kind of jump to that because Paris Barrow is,
- 24:40Speaker 1: you know, horrifying. So let's go over to the rest
- 24:45Speaker 1: of the straw Hats who are still like on that
- 24:48Speaker 1: trail through the seducing woods, and we have got the
- 24:52Speaker 1: weirdest thing going on. So first we have to cope
- 24:57Speaker 1: with I keep I need to say, Lola, guys, what
- 25:01Speaker 1: is her name? Is it Lila? I can't remember? Saraphim says,
- 25:07Speaker 1: how does Brooke go on if the candy takes out
- 25:09Speaker 1: his achilles tendons? Oh my god, Chiffon, thank you. She
- 25:19Speaker 1: is talking to Beije about that, like she wants to
- 25:24Speaker 1: keep her word regarding I like helping the straw Hats
- 25:29Speaker 1: and helping Pudding, and Beje initially is like, I don't
- 25:37Speaker 1: want you to go, babe. That's basically what it comes
- 25:39Speaker 1: down to, just like I love you. We have a baby,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Please don't go, and she's like, you know, look, yes,
- 25:47Speaker 1: but you're a man of honor, which debatable. You know
- 25:54Speaker 1: that you've got to like keep your word right, and
- 25:57Speaker 1: I gotta do this so I'll see you when I
- 26:01Speaker 1: see you if I don't make it out, et cetera,
- 26:04Speaker 1: et cetera, And uh, I for one am kind of
- 26:09Speaker 1: like I feel like relieved is too strong a word,
- 26:13Speaker 1: but beje, I feel like I'm sort of bored of
- 26:17Speaker 1: him at this point, so transitioning to something that's got
- 26:21Speaker 1: nothing to do with him, I'm pretty much into right now,
- 26:25Speaker 1: and he parts ways with them, so it's just Chiffon
- 26:29Speaker 1: and Putting on the back of the Flying Carpet guy
- 26:34Speaker 1: and we get the weirdest thing with putting you all
- 26:43Speaker 1: this was graz stuff. I wasn't expecting it, and I
- 26:47Speaker 1: feel like there was an episode where I even said
- 26:49Speaker 1: I'm not sure like Pudding knows what she wants, and
- 26:53Speaker 1: it turns out that was like much more literally correct
- 26:57Speaker 1: than I was expecting it to be. What we've got
- 27:01Speaker 1: in these three episodes is Putting fighting her evil nature,
- 27:09Speaker 1: and I don't even know that it's like an evil
- 27:11Speaker 1: nature that's innate in her that we're supposed to think.
- 27:14Speaker 1: It's like, you know what I mean, I think it's
- 27:15Speaker 1: just meant to be that she has fed so much
- 27:21Speaker 1: into a monstrous version of herself that turning that off
- 27:26Speaker 1: now is really hard actually, and that she is like
- 27:33Speaker 1: just conditioned, you know. It's it's almost like we're seeing
- 27:39Speaker 1: the sort of thing that we all deal with a lot,
- 27:42Speaker 1: but on steroids where we've got our patterns. You know,
- 27:47Speaker 1: we all have the thing that we have done for
- 27:50Speaker 1: so long as a defense mechanism, and now it's outlived
- 27:55Speaker 1: its usefulness to us. It no longer serves us, and
- 27:59Speaker 1: yet now it's a habit and we don't know how
- 28:04Speaker 1: to turn it off, and it is just the worst. Man,
- 28:11Speaker 1: It's the fucking worst. It's like talking about somebody who
- 28:17Speaker 1: needs like therapy, you know what I'm saying. I love
- 28:20Speaker 1: the fact that it's so obvious that everybody around her
- 28:23Speaker 1: is just like, girl, what the fuck though, like, really,
- 28:26Speaker 1: what is going on with you? And she's sort of
- 28:28Speaker 1: stopping and being like, I don't know, I don't know
- 28:31Speaker 1: what the fuck is going on with me? Even I
- 28:34Speaker 1: just had a lot of sympathy for her here, and
- 28:36Speaker 1: it's really what I kept getting distracted by imagining how
- 28:43Speaker 1: much fun the voice actress probably was having when she
- 28:48Speaker 1: got to perform this, because she's getting to be the
- 28:52Speaker 1: sweet girl and then transitioning immediately into not just a villain,
- 28:56Speaker 1: but like a truly uny hinged drama queen type of villain,
- 29:03Speaker 1: like the funnest type, you know. And so you get
- 29:08Speaker 1: these wild swings back and forth, which I have to
- 29:11Speaker 1: assume if you're a voice actor, you kind of live
- 29:14Speaker 1: for this shit, Like this is exactly what you enjoy,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I would think, And it's really really fun to watch.
- 29:24Speaker 1: It's genuinely so hilarious, you guys. And it's like there
- 29:27Speaker 1: could not be a better pairing for her than Sonjy
- 29:33Speaker 1: because SONI, in his weird way, has the same exact
- 29:39Speaker 1: thing going on. He wants to be like a normal dude,
- 29:42Speaker 1: but he can't help. But like the horn dog thing
- 29:45Speaker 1: is so built in and it's really hard to turn off,
- 29:49Speaker 1: and he will fight against it sometimes, but it's just
- 29:52Speaker 1: it's just right there all the time. And so I
- 29:57Speaker 1: kept watching the two of them and being like, honestly
- 30:01Speaker 1: ideal couple. They both have such a bizarre relationship with
- 30:07Speaker 1: themselves that I feel like they would have a lot
- 30:10Speaker 1: of compassion for one another. There's almost a sense when
- 30:15Speaker 1: it comes to Soanjy that he's just like straight delusional.
- 30:22Speaker 1: So when she's being bonkers, crazy evil, it's almost like
- 30:30Speaker 1: it doesn't really even register for him because bro is
- 30:35Speaker 1: so completely disconnected from reality that it doesn't matter. She
- 30:41Speaker 1: could say fucking anything, and because she's cute, that's fine, Okay,
- 30:47Speaker 1: say whatever then, you know, and I really really ship
- 30:54Speaker 1: the two of them at this point. I just want
- 30:56Speaker 1: to be clear. This is the strongest I've felt about
- 30:59Speaker 1: any really relationships in this show, and the only time
- 31:03Speaker 1: that I have really genuinely been like, Sonji needs to
- 31:06Speaker 1: be with this person. Like most of the time with Sonji,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'm just like, hey, you know, if he gets to
- 31:11Speaker 1: have a fun time for a little bit, this is fine.
- 31:14Speaker 1: But this is genuinely a pairing that I want to
- 31:19Speaker 1: see continue, and I will be really disappointed if it doesn't,
- 31:23Speaker 1: if we don't get to have that. And I especially
- 31:27Speaker 1: love it in light of the fact that like a
- 31:29Speaker 1: big part of where her insecurity is coming from is
- 31:32Speaker 1: her eye and thinking that she's ugly and nobody ever,
- 31:35Speaker 1: you know, and that so much of Sanji being bananas
- 31:39Speaker 1: is him complimenting her appearance and talking about her beautiful
- 31:43Speaker 1: eyes and that her face hasn't been damaged by a
- 31:46Speaker 1: big mom. Thank God for that. That kind of thing.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I absolutely love this, and it's it's such a fun
- 31:57Speaker 1: thing to watch her starting to like completely lose it
- 32:01Speaker 1: and go down villain road and then for him to
- 32:03Speaker 1: be like, oh my darling, you're so beautiful, and it's
- 32:06Speaker 1: like she's short circuits when he gives her a compliment.
- 32:11Speaker 1: The whole track that her brain was on just the
- 32:14Speaker 1: train jumps right off and doesn't know where to go. Now.
- 32:18Speaker 1: It's a perfect combo. It couldn't be more ideal for
- 32:24Speaker 1: each other. I'm into it. I really mean it, Guys.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I ship them, and I'm gonna be sad if this
- 32:32Speaker 1: doesn't work out, and I suspect it won't because the
- 32:38Speaker 1: only way that this could really work is for her
- 32:41Speaker 1: to become one of the straw hats. And I just
- 32:43Speaker 1: don't really see that that's the direction we're going. I mean,
- 32:46Speaker 1: we might be, I might be wrong about that, but
- 32:48Speaker 1: I just don't really think it looks like that's what
- 32:51Speaker 1: we're doing. So we'll see, but I'm sort of mentally
- 32:58Speaker 1: just preparing myself for dis appointment there because I'm I
- 33:01Speaker 1: have my suspicions and I understand storytelling wise, the guy
- 33:08Speaker 1: who's a huge creep and PERV can't be tied down
- 33:13Speaker 1: probably for the story, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I see how that might be sort of limiting to
- 33:22Speaker 1: him as a character, but I would argue that actually,
- 33:28Speaker 1: in reality, it might free him up to be more
- 33:32Speaker 1: interesting in other ways, like him being a creepy PERV
- 33:40Speaker 1: has been basically characteristic Number two. Right, Soanji number one
- 33:47Speaker 1: loves to cook, Number two loves women. I think maybe
- 33:56Speaker 1: we could have him still love women, but be a
- 33:58Speaker 1: little bit less unhinged about it now that he's married
- 34:02Speaker 1: and it's directed at one person, and potentially we could
- 34:08Speaker 1: have another, like something else that he's good at come out.
- 34:14Speaker 1: While this particular characteristic gets a little subdued. I can't
- 34:21Speaker 1: help but think about the episode of Seinfeld where George
- 34:24Speaker 1: stops having sex and suddenly becomes smart, and it's like,
- 34:28Speaker 1: somehow the fact that he like, somehow sex manages to
- 34:32Speaker 1: leach away his intelligence and everybody is just like, who
- 34:36Speaker 1: are you? Because now he's doing like science and shit. Anyway,
- 34:42Speaker 1: I feel it's almost the opposite, where if Sanji is
- 34:45Speaker 1: actually in a loving mutual relationship, that he might be
- 34:52Speaker 1: bearable as a real person otherwise and we could do
- 34:58Speaker 1: something else him. And I'm I just I understand if
- 35:07Speaker 1: that is not something Oda is interested in, because he
- 35:09Speaker 1: really just wants to keep hammering away at the things
- 35:12Speaker 1: that we know about these characters and their basic personalities.
- 35:18Speaker 1: But I kind of hope that's not all it is.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I kind of want to have a bit of room
- 35:28Speaker 1: for growth in this and to do something else, because
- 35:34Speaker 1: I think that these characters are good enough that they
- 35:38Speaker 1: deserve that, you know what I'm saying. I think it's
- 35:42Speaker 1: almost maybe underestimating your audience a little bit. If you
- 35:46Speaker 1: feel like, well, you know, Sougy's a PERV, then that's
- 35:50Speaker 1: just who he is. Everybody knows and expects that, and
- 35:53Speaker 1: that's what we're doing with him because it's how he's
- 35:55Speaker 1: always been. Maybe it doesn't have to be because your
- 36:00Speaker 1: audience is old enough to fucking adjust and adapt, and
- 36:05Speaker 1: you've already got plenty of other pervs in the story,
- 36:08Speaker 1: you know. I mean, Brooke isn't as bad as Sanjy,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but he certainly could play that role. Adequately, adequately enough
- 36:18Speaker 1: for me, who feels that this sort of creepiness is
- 36:21Speaker 1: not necessary at all. I think Brooke is perfectly fine
- 36:25Speaker 1: because mostly the creepiness doesn't show until he asks to
- 36:29Speaker 1: see somebody's panties, and that's enough. That's more than I
- 36:32Speaker 1: want anyway. So oh yeah, Sarahim says, Plus she is
- 36:38Speaker 1: a chef, so they are perfect. I agree, she really
- 36:40Speaker 1: does deserve to if someone genuinely tell her she's beautiful. Agree,
- 36:44Speaker 1: And I appreciate very much that her I don't know
- 36:50Speaker 1: if it's necessarily that she's with Cheffon. That is sort
- 36:54Speaker 1: of like keeping her grounded here, but probably if Cheffon
- 36:59Speaker 1: weren't with her, what's going on with Putting would be
- 37:02Speaker 1: a lot more confusing. So I really like the fact
- 37:06Speaker 1: that Chafon is sort of like bringing her back down
- 37:10Speaker 1: to earth before Sonjy you know, gets involved, and is
- 37:13Speaker 1: the one who starts doing that, and it's just like, girl,
- 37:16Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Why would you say that
- 37:18Speaker 1: You just said that you wanted to help them, Because
- 37:21Speaker 1: she keeps jumping into like, yeah, come with me, and
- 37:25Speaker 1: it starts off as like I can help you, and
- 37:27Speaker 1: then it turns into I can help you escape while
- 37:31Speaker 1: Big Mom kills all of your friends and lights your
- 37:34Speaker 1: ship on fire and we can watch it sink into
- 37:37Speaker 1: the sea together. It's so weird because she transitions from
- 37:41Speaker 1: being like you know, enormy into not only a villain,
- 37:45Speaker 1: but a villain who is somehow assuming that Soanji is
- 37:48Speaker 1: on her side. In a lot of this, it starts
- 37:50Speaker 1: off with I you are so pathetic, I hate you
- 37:54Speaker 1: so much that she's yelling at Sanji, and then slowly,
- 37:57Speaker 1: as these episodes go by, it begins to adjust so
- 38:01Speaker 1: that Sanji is more and more she's recognizing that he's
- 38:06Speaker 1: on her side, but she still isn't really looping everyone
- 38:09Speaker 1: else in as being on her side. So instead it's
- 38:14Speaker 1: me and you versus them for you for a little bit.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And uh, I wouldn't mind if this is just a
- 38:21Speaker 1: thing for putting forever, If it's just her constantly battling
- 38:26Speaker 1: this impulse that she has to be evil all the time.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I think this would be genuinely fucking funny. And I
- 38:32Speaker 1: don't know, depending on how you handled it, I don't
- 38:34Speaker 1: think I get tired of it. You could do it
- 38:36Speaker 1: in a way that could stay pretty interesting and pretty funny.
- 38:39Speaker 1: So I know I've spent too much time on this
- 38:42Speaker 1: with them, but I just really enjoy it, and I
- 38:44Speaker 1: think it's surprising the direction that some things have gone,
- 38:47Speaker 1: and putting overall has just been such a pleasant addition
- 38:53Speaker 1: to the women of this series that are bigger roles,
- 38:58Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So all right, I'm kind of,
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know, jumping around over here. There's there's the whole
- 39:06Speaker 1: thing with Zeus the Cloud who ate the other clouds?
- 39:11Speaker 1: Zeus the Cannibal Cloud sounds like a band. We have
- 39:16Speaker 1: Prometheus just being like, yo, dude, what the fuck? Because
- 39:20Speaker 1: in the last episodes he attacks them and Prometheus is
- 39:25Speaker 1: just like, why would you do that? Though? And He's like, well,
- 39:28Speaker 1: I didn't have a lot of say in the matter.
- 39:31Speaker 1: And I'm like, you know, uh, the assumption that he
- 39:36Speaker 1: has the same weird drive from hunger that Big Mom has,
- 39:43Speaker 1: I'm kind of into that idea at this point. I
- 39:45Speaker 1: think that's canon. I'm assuming when he says that, and like,
- 39:50Speaker 1: initially my response was like, yeah, you did, But now
- 39:54Speaker 1: I'm starting to think about Big Mom and the way
- 39:56Speaker 1: she is, and I'm like, maybe not actually, per perhaps
- 40:01Speaker 1: it is not as cut and dried as it looked
- 40:06Speaker 1: and big Oh, I am really though, when it comes
- 40:11Speaker 1: to Big Mom, I must say, I'm really starting to
- 40:15Speaker 1: feel for this actress, the voice actress who has to
- 40:18Speaker 1: do her, because it has been what at this point,
- 40:22Speaker 1: nine episodes in a row of her just yelling where
- 40:27Speaker 1: is my wedding cake? That has got to be really
- 40:34Speaker 1: fucking boring. The only thing that I can think that
- 40:38Speaker 1: might mitigate this is they reuse a lot of her
- 40:44Speaker 1: dialogue because it's so repetitive and she doesn't have to
- 40:48Speaker 1: actually repeat this over and over again. But I don't
- 40:52Speaker 1: know that that's true. It's very possible that wasn't something
- 40:58Speaker 1: they were able to do for some reason. And you know,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I don't know how a lot of this works. I'm
- 41:03Speaker 1: thinking probably they could though, because like Big Mom, even
- 41:08Speaker 1: in the original language, is going to be repeating herself
- 41:11Speaker 1: a lot, so it's going to be the same like
- 41:13Speaker 1: mouth flaps, and so I feel like that's likely. I
- 41:20Speaker 1: hope so for her sake, because I feel like I
- 41:22Speaker 1: would get so sick of this anyway. She is gearing
- 41:29Speaker 1: up for like another one of these big attacks. Meanwhile,
- 41:34Speaker 1: like the view that Pudding has from above is like
- 41:40Speaker 1: she's realizing at one point that the straw hats are
- 41:42Speaker 1: heading in the wrong direction and that they need to
- 41:45Speaker 1: be led another way, but the seducing woods is keeping
- 41:49Speaker 1: them from adjusting from changing direction, and so Putting does
- 41:56Speaker 1: something really interesting and it's only temporary. So I think, like,
- 42:04Speaker 1: because my initial reaction when she does this is like,
- 42:09Speaker 1: is that kind of cruel? Actually? And then when she
- 42:13Speaker 1: says later it's not gonna last for very long, I
- 42:15Speaker 1: was like, Okay, maybe it's fine then, But she returns
- 42:20Speaker 1: the memories of a bunch of the trees. I think
- 42:26Speaker 1: it's just trees. There's like, you know, all kinds of
- 42:29Speaker 1: plants that are involved with keeping them in the seducing woods.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But I think the memories that she returns are just
- 42:34Speaker 1: trees memories. But she returns these memories and makes them
- 42:40Speaker 1: stop in their tracks and forget what they were ordered
- 42:43Speaker 1: to do and the way that they are meant to
- 42:45Speaker 1: confuse the way for the straw hats, and you get
- 42:50Speaker 1: to see a little flash of like who each of
- 42:53Speaker 1: these trees were, and it's sort of weird because it's
- 42:56Speaker 1: like not exactly that they I'm trying to think how
- 43:02Speaker 1: to say this, because they come back to themselves but
- 43:06Speaker 1: not in a way where they like sort of look
- 43:08Speaker 1: around and go, what where am I? Oh my god,
- 43:11Speaker 1: I'm a tree. Like there's there's like almost a hint,
- 43:15Speaker 1: But at first it's all of them remembering a moment
- 43:21Speaker 1: before they were turned into a tree and experiencing that
- 43:25Speaker 1: memory as if it's happening right now. So this one woman,
- 43:30Speaker 1: you see that the memory that just got projected into
- 43:33Speaker 1: her head was her going grocery shopping, and then she
- 43:37Speaker 1: says out loud, Oh yeah, I've really got to get
- 43:40Speaker 1: some groceries. And so it's not that she's like just
- 43:45Speaker 1: reminded who she really is and comes out of her
- 43:47Speaker 1: fugue state. It's almost like she just gets put into
- 43:51Speaker 1: a different fugue state for a second. And so it's
- 43:54Speaker 1: this woman, it's like there's an old man as well.
- 43:58Speaker 1: There's just a bunch of people putting is able and like,
- 44:02Speaker 1: I really I gotta say that I'm not totally clear
- 44:08Speaker 1: on how Pudding's power works here, because she basically stretches
- 44:15Speaker 1: her arms out and it's like tendrils come out of
- 44:17Speaker 1: her hands that go into the trees, and those tendrils
- 44:21Speaker 1: carry memories. But I was sort of under the impression
- 44:25Speaker 1: that the memories that she carries around are ones that
- 44:28Speaker 1: she took from people. And I don't know if it's
- 44:33Speaker 1: supposed to be that, Like, if somebody is turned into
- 44:37Speaker 1: a tree in the Seducing Woods or put into like,
- 44:41Speaker 1: does she take their memories before this happens to them.
- 44:46Speaker 1: The way that I thought I understood things was the
- 44:50Speaker 1: Seducing Woods, the trees and stuff all existed as regular trees.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Big Mom accepts a tribute of part of somebody's lifespan
- 45:00Speaker 1: and that gets put into an already existing tree and
- 45:06Speaker 1: animates it. And so it's not that necessarily someone died
- 45:16Speaker 1: to make that tree now its own being that those
- 45:22Speaker 1: potentially the person that is in that tree that piece
- 45:27Speaker 1: of their life force, they are also still alive somewhere else,
- 45:32Speaker 1: and that this is just a piece of their life
- 45:33Speaker 1: force out here walking around as a tree. That was
- 45:37Speaker 1: the way that I was like thinking that this worked.
- 45:40Speaker 1: And I'm not sure that I'm right about it. Oh,
- 45:45Speaker 1: Seraphim says, yes, that is how it worked. Okay. So
- 45:51Speaker 1: I don't know how uh, how it is that putting
- 45:57Speaker 1: gets access to memories, how she is able to like
- 46:01Speaker 1: it feels like she actually puts the memory in their mind.
- 46:08Speaker 1: But is it that she is putting random memories in
- 46:13Speaker 1: their minds? Is it maybe, because I my assumption had
- 46:16Speaker 1: been watching this, that she's putting the memory that corresponds
- 46:19Speaker 1: with the piece of soul and that they are remembering
- 46:22Speaker 1: something from their own history. But maybe not. Maybe she's
- 46:27Speaker 1: planting whatever memories she's got in her little database and
- 46:30Speaker 1: it's not actually matched up at all. Possibly, sarahim says,
- 46:36Speaker 1: how Putting did her thing less clear. Could be she
- 46:39Speaker 1: just had the ability to awaken dormant memories, or she's
- 46:42Speaker 1: just giving them some random memory she stored. Okay, and
- 46:46Speaker 1: the ability to awaken dormant memories is interesting. It really
- 46:50Speaker 1: felt like the way it was animated that it's supposed
- 46:52Speaker 1: to be she's placing the memory, but you know, may
- 46:56Speaker 1: not be. I just wanted to make sure that I
- 46:59Speaker 1: didn't miss something about how all that works. What I
- 47:05Speaker 1: keep thinking about, you guys, is what if Putting used
- 47:10Speaker 1: her ability on Big Mom? And I'm not even sure
- 47:14Speaker 1: what I mean by that when I say it like
- 47:15Speaker 1: a part of me. What I mean is, could she
- 47:22Speaker 1: make Big Mom like a decent person by manipulating her memories?
- 47:28Speaker 1: Or maybe I don't even know how that would work.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I just keep thinking about the fact that Big Mom
- 47:37Speaker 1: ate her friends and doesn't seem aware of that, and
- 47:41Speaker 1: how much I want her to find out that's what
- 47:44Speaker 1: she did, And based on the way that things have
- 47:49Speaker 1: sort of unfolded, it seems that there is no other
- 47:54Speaker 1: witness to that, and I just don't think there's a
- 47:57Speaker 1: way for her to find out what really happened there
- 48:00Speaker 1: through something going on with memory. So Putting feels like
- 48:04Speaker 1: the missing piece there to make that happen. But I
- 48:08Speaker 1: don't really get how that would even work, and I
- 48:10Speaker 1: think that disconnect there is not knowing exactly everything that
- 48:14Speaker 1: Putting is capable of with her power, because that's the
- 48:18Speaker 1: way that the devil fruits work a lot in this universe,
- 48:21Speaker 1: is like you get one overt ability that then has
- 48:26Speaker 1: a lot of little tangential things that you can do
- 48:28Speaker 1: that are related to that big thing. So memory manipulation
- 48:32Speaker 1: is a general term, and there could be a lot
- 48:35Speaker 1: of detail surrounding that. That's like opens up a much
- 48:39Speaker 1: wider world on things that Pudding can do. So yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 1: I just like I can't I don't know even if
- 48:48Speaker 1: she found out that she ate them, would it be
- 48:52Speaker 1: like helpful. You know. The thing about this big mom
- 48:57Speaker 1: is that the way that she's portrayed when she's younger
- 49:02Speaker 1: is that she mostly means well but is for some
- 49:07Speaker 1: reason unable to see when people are suffering, and so
- 49:11Speaker 1: she'll do things that hurts them or do things that
- 49:15Speaker 1: makes them afraid and not realize how afraid they are
- 49:18Speaker 1: or how much pain they're in. But that really she's
- 49:22Speaker 1: kind of Lenny from of Mice and Men, where it's
- 49:24Speaker 1: like she just wanted to pet the bunny and she
- 49:27Speaker 1: didn't mean to accidentally like kill this person, you know,
- 49:31Speaker 1: and then gradually as time goes on and she gets
- 49:34Speaker 1: corrupted by this guy that she joins up with her
- 49:39Speaker 1: like power hungry self. Oh my god, I never made
- 49:45Speaker 1: that connection, you guys power hungry obviously. Oh my god,
- 49:53Speaker 1: I feel real dumb. Anyway, I don't know if being
- 50:02Speaker 1: told that she did that would make her stop and
- 50:07Speaker 1: like rethink her life, or you know, some people their
- 50:11Speaker 1: face was something awful that they did that's like too
- 50:15Speaker 1: big and they can't really face it and they get
- 50:18Speaker 1: very defensive and lash out, which could certainly also be
- 50:23Speaker 1: a thing. Oh, Demian is here. Hi Demian Saraphim says,
- 50:29Speaker 1: we saw two witnesses that the chef guy who decided
- 50:32Speaker 1: to bring Linln with him and use her, and one
- 50:35Speaker 1: giant who saw and told the rest. Oh, I didn't
- 50:39Speaker 1: know that the giant told them. I didn't know that
- 50:44Speaker 1: he saw what she did. I knew that he saw
- 50:46Speaker 1: that everybody was gone, but I didn't realize that he
- 50:51Speaker 1: like actually witnessed what she did. Okay, and the chef
- 50:55Speaker 1: guy as well, I knew that like both of them.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I don't think I realized actually watch what happened. Happened.
- 51:05Speaker 1: So Vimian says, basically how it's been until now is
- 51:11Speaker 1: that armament hockey can protect you from pretty much anything
- 51:13Speaker 1: devil fruit related, but only if you specifically block it.
- 51:16Speaker 1: But Big Mom is a hockey monster and is basically
- 51:20Speaker 1: an iron balloon at all times. Does that mean she
- 51:23Speaker 1: would just block it like she does everything, or would
- 51:26Speaker 1: specialize devil fruit powers just go right through? Would Big
- 51:29Speaker 1: Mom forget someone turned into a toy by sugar? It
- 51:32Speaker 1: was also what I was asking myself when I read this.
- 51:35Speaker 1: It stated as a reason why no giant will deal
- 51:38Speaker 1: with Big Mom. Okay, I didn't remember that that was it.
- 51:43Speaker 1: I knew that they wouldn't deal with her, but I
- 51:45Speaker 1: thought that was more like the rampage over the cakes
- 51:50Speaker 1: that got her sent away, and that they were basically like,
- 51:54Speaker 1: we never want to deal with her again. But I
- 51:56Speaker 1: think I'm just getting the order of events confused. Yeah, So, anyway,
- 52:04Speaker 1: all this to say, what's going on with Big Mom, Like,
- 52:08Speaker 1: the only things that I can imagine helping are a
- 52:15Speaker 1: drugs or be lots and lots of therapy, and therapy
- 52:21Speaker 1: involves dealing with memory. And if we're going to shortcut that,
- 52:26Speaker 1: what pudding can do feels ideal, you know, But the
- 52:32Speaker 1: truth is, like, it does not seem as if there's
- 52:37Speaker 1: a way to kill her that anybody is really going
- 52:40Speaker 1: to be able to manage. The only other option that
- 52:44Speaker 1: I could see is poisoning her, and I'm not even
- 52:46Speaker 1: really that confident on that one. Don't know, Like I'm
- 52:52Speaker 1: just unclear whether she's really vulnerable to something in that
- 52:57Speaker 1: way or not, because it's what I would expect is
- 53:03Speaker 1: that if you are able, if you are like physically
- 53:06Speaker 1: and vulnerable as if you are made of iron all over,
- 53:10Speaker 1: that you have to have some weak spot and so
- 53:13Speaker 1: being poisoned would make sense as the weak spot. But
- 53:19Speaker 1: even if that were true, I don't really know that.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I see putting and Chiffon willingly poisoning Big Mom. Maybe
- 53:33Speaker 1: she's been awful to both of them. So personally I
- 53:36Speaker 1: think that they should because it seems as if Big
- 53:39Speaker 1: Mom would be very willing to kill Chiffon at least,
- 53:42Speaker 1: you know, so, do I think that they should have
- 53:46Speaker 1: hang ups about it? No? Personally, but I'm not really
- 53:50Speaker 1: sure that something that they would be willing to do,
- 53:54Speaker 1: even though I think it would probably like free a
- 53:58Speaker 1: lot of people. The other thing is, she's got bits
- 54:03Speaker 1: of her own life force like out and about, and
- 54:06Speaker 1: is it possible that you kill her and then that
- 54:10Speaker 1: bit of life force just flies out from somewhere and
- 54:12Speaker 1: reanimates her body and she's like still alive. Actually, you know,
- 54:17Speaker 1: like pulling back up battery power at us somewhere. Why
- 54:22Speaker 1: wouldn't that work? I feel like that would probably. That's
- 54:26Speaker 1: actually terrifying. That never occurred to me until just now,
- 54:31Speaker 1: and now I'm suddenly like, oh no, but yeah, I am.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I am really really curious, like how we're going to
- 54:40Speaker 1: deal with her in the end, because and when I
- 54:43Speaker 1: say the end, I mean this arc because I expect
- 54:46Speaker 1: her to be alive for a while. I don't think
- 54:51Speaker 1: that this arc ends with Big Mom dead. I just
- 54:54Speaker 1: don't see it maybe, but I don't know. I'm also
- 54:59Speaker 1: on I don't have a good idea of how long
- 55:03Speaker 1: this arc is. I feel like I looked at it
- 55:05Speaker 1: a while ago, and I don't remember anything about like
- 55:08Speaker 1: how many episodes or anything like that. So in that respect,
- 55:13Speaker 1: I have really no frame of reference to how far
- 55:16Speaker 1: we are from the end of this arc and whether
- 55:19Speaker 1: or not I should be expecting things to start to
- 55:21Speaker 1: take a turn real soon or not. But yeah, so anyway, guys,
- 55:27Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm getting like wildly off I guess it's
- 55:30Speaker 1: not off topic, but I'm just really like not talking
- 55:34Speaker 1: too much about like the plot specifically here. But I
- 55:37Speaker 1: think that's okay, because like it's a lot of fighty
- 55:41Speaker 1: fighty fighty, you know. Really, the main thing is, by
- 55:45Speaker 1: the end of these three episodes, Jimbe and Nami reached
- 55:49Speaker 1: the sunny. They don't really have anything they can do
- 55:52Speaker 1: to help Chopper and Brook right now. Excuse me, she
- 55:56Speaker 1: tells Jimby. I think that the Kuda burst is the
- 55:59Speaker 1: way to go, because we can put a bunch of
- 56:01Speaker 1: distance between us and these guys right away, which I
- 56:04Speaker 1: will say, I love Jimbei's response, which is like, if
- 56:07Speaker 1: you say that's the way to do it, I'm not
- 56:09Speaker 1: gonna argue, let's do it, like he trusts her immediately
- 56:11Speaker 1: is just like, you know more than me, and I
- 56:13Speaker 1: appreciate that very much. And so Nami goes below decks
- 56:18Speaker 1: and she starts to load these barrels of cola that
- 56:21Speaker 1: are the fuel for the coup to burst, and they're
- 56:25Speaker 1: very large. Apparently it's supposed to be that Carrot's much
- 56:28Speaker 1: stronger than her, which I don't know that I knew that,
- 56:32Speaker 1: but it's interesting. And so Carrot comes down and sees
- 56:36Speaker 1: Nami struggling with this one barrel, and it's just like,
- 56:38Speaker 1: let me do this, you go do the other thing.
- 56:40Speaker 1: So they're like loading up and getting ready to leave,
- 56:45Speaker 1: and this is when Pedro is like watching Pero Sparrow
- 56:51Speaker 1: and is like, something's up. This guy is going to
- 56:54Speaker 1: be a problem. And then we start to really lean
- 56:57Speaker 1: into Pedro's story, getting to see the fact that like
- 57:02Speaker 1: he actually met gold Roger admired him a great deal,
- 57:09Speaker 1: that he was told there was going to be a
- 57:12Speaker 1: point where like the world suddenly changed, that everybody gets
- 57:17Speaker 1: their moment to shine, which is evidently what he is
- 57:20Speaker 1: kind of thinking this moment is for him, that he
- 57:23Speaker 1: gets to shine by like blowing himself up. I guess
- 57:29Speaker 1: it's unnecessary for me to get this sort of like
- 57:34Speaker 1: flashback stuff of Pedro. I don't need it. It's fine,
- 57:39Speaker 1: but like you know what I mean, it doesn't really
- 57:41Speaker 1: add anything in my opinion. It's just I think meant
- 57:45Speaker 1: to give us some frame of reference for why he's
- 57:48Speaker 1: willing to put it all on the line and risk
- 57:50Speaker 1: it all, and so Parispero at this point is this
- 57:56Speaker 1: is when he gets off the ship and he makes
- 58:00Speaker 1: the like water around the sunny, he creates this shell
- 58:05Speaker 1: of candy that locks the entire ship in place, which sucks. Really,
- 58:11Speaker 1: that really fucking sucks. And so Pedro is like, I
- 58:17Speaker 1: am going to do what needs doing to make sure
- 58:21Speaker 1: that they all get out of here, because I think
- 58:23Speaker 1: the straw hats are the ones that are going to
- 58:25Speaker 1: change the world. And he kind of like says this
- 58:31Speaker 1: goodbye to Carrot, who senses that something about the way
- 58:34Speaker 1: he's talking feels very like worrying. But it's not until
- 58:40Speaker 1: he sets off this dynamite that you see her being like,
- 58:43Speaker 1: oh shit, you know, and Saraphim says, also sets up
- 58:49Speaker 1: the larger question of what did the Roger pirates learn how?
- 58:52Speaker 1: What does this mean? You know? I'll be real with you,
- 58:55Speaker 1: Sarah M. It doesn't set those questions up like I
- 58:58Speaker 1: think it's supposed to. But it's not specific enough for
- 59:02Speaker 1: me to really believe that they knew anything. It just
- 59:05Speaker 1: feels like the kind of things that people say when
- 59:08Speaker 1: they're trying to reassure you that the world is going
- 59:11Speaker 1: to be better for you than it was for us,
- 59:14Speaker 1: which I believe that what you're saying is supposed to
- 59:18Speaker 1: be it that it's like they know something somehow, you know,
- 59:23Speaker 1: But it's just vague enough as to kind of feel like, well,
- 59:29Speaker 1: you know, kid, you and the youths are going to
- 59:32Speaker 1: make this world a better place and things will be
- 59:35Speaker 1: different someday. It feels like vague enough that it's sort
- 59:39Speaker 1: of generic, which is what the word that I used,
- 59:44Speaker 1: or like at the beginning of the episode regarding his motivations.
- 59:48Speaker 1: It's that kind of feel for me. And again, I
- 59:53Speaker 1: don't know if maybe there's an issue here with like
- 59:55Speaker 1: translation and there's something that they said where it feels
- 59:58Speaker 1: a lot more specific then the way that I heard it,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: which is possible, But as of right now, I'm just
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: sort of like seeing him as Jimbay part two of
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Just you know, I admire these guys. They seem to
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: be out here doing good and I believe in them,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and I want to be part of this, and if
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: that means my death and so be it, I'm willing
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: to do that, you know. So yeah, I mean that's
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: really kind of everything for these three episodes. I feel
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: like I touched on it all. And there's like a
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: little bit of the henchman talking at one point, you know,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: because Parisparro is like calling montdor and he in turn
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: calls the other check I can't remember her name, and
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: is like, you guys have to make sure the fucking
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: straw hats don't get out get out of the bay.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: And I do enjoy that. Somebody else who's listening is
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: just like they're fucking still alive. Really, like everybody just
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: expects for them to be like taking care of very quickly,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: and it's a victory in itself that they are still
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: even here to be a pain in their ass. So
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: good on you, guys. I guess all right, I'm going
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: to wrap this up, but thank you guys again so
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: much for listening, and thank you to Seraphim and Demian
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: for hanging out with me. Thank you to Mina for
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: commissioning this episode. Appreciate you a lot, and for bearing
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: with me again on my reschedule. Thank you all, and
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: until next time to the LU motherfuckers. That was an
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: unspoiled network podcast.
