- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: Welcome to So This Happened.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: This is episode 6D, and we're here at Bridley Boutique with Kelly.
- 0:16SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: I'm Rachel.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: I'm Jen, and we're so excited for today's discussion.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: Before we get too far into anything, though, we gotta give our sponsor our sponsors all the love.
- 0:27SPEAKER_03: So thank you to Vu Events.
- 0:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it had to be Vuo.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: It had to be Vu.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: We love you, Vu.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Uh Color Therapy, our friend Jennifer.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: We just got hers done.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: We just got her hers.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: She does mine too.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, even more.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: She has such a phenomenal.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: She's the mom.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: We just spent Friday morning in there together just doing a whole thing.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: It was so much fun.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: I loved it.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: She's one of the most amazing humans.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: She really is.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: So is Giovanna from Vu of N.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Two of my besties right there.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: I actually popped in again on Jennifer the next day when we were at the T-Fest with my mom.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: And so we popped across the street to get some chili killers.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: And popped on said hi to Jennifer as well.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: And it's always a bright face to go to.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Mom really is.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: And she's right there next to everything.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Two of the best humans.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Wichita's so lucky.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: So lucky to have them.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: And then Backspace Media, which is my social media company.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Also an amazing person.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Another Jen.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Another Jen, yeah.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, there's a million of us out there.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: So tonight's guest spent over 30 years in MRI before she ever thought about bridal.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: Wild.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: You gotta love a good career shift.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: And then she built a business around the idea that buying your wedding dress should feel like an experience.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Not a transaction.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: I love that so much as a kind of recent bride.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: That's exactly what I was looking for.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: It was not that far ago.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: Five years in, she's figured out a lot about hiring, inventory, marketing, and trusting her gut, including when the newest tech and AI AI tools help and when they get in the way, which can happen.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: Gotta check it out.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: We gotta bring the human side.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Kelly, owner of Brightly Boutique, is here and we are getting into the real story behind building it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: But first, this or that.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: Here we go.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: We're bringing it back.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: This or that, I know.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: So this is a fun segment where I read off a couple of prompts and then we we pick which prompt resonates best with us, and we go around and we chit chat about it.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: We're gonna start with Kelly.
- 2:37unknown: You got this.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: You got this.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: I believe in you.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: I bet you'll probably know your answer faster than we'll know ours.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: And then I'll go and then Rachel, and then we'll just keep going around three, four, depending.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: See how many times we feel like going around tonight.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Okay, so the first prompt is champagne while you shop or Besties Only Opinions, no bubbles needed.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, I would totally do champagne while you shop every time.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: But yeah, we don't have a liquor license.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, that's not happening.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that would be I would have a tap in the wall.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, that would oh, and then they have those doorbells on Amazon push for champagne.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: I need to get one of those.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: I literally have the sign and we can go ring it.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Ding ding.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: What is is that Happy Gilmore where he has like the Kool-Aid in the fountain at his house?
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: It might be your needs.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: It's Mr.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Needs, it's Mr.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Day, champagne in a waterfront.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: I think that delivery would be too bubbly.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: Come to my voove fountain.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: I'll drink all of that.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: It would be insane.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: We can easy on Saturdays.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: That would be crazy.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: I'm definitely the same.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Champagne while champagne, make it an experience.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: My friends' opinions do matter, but my friends in Matt, I feel like they make better creative decisions when they're sleeping champagne.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, shit.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Well, you know me.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go both.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for real.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: She's really gonna do it.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, why not?
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, if the place you're going doesn't have a liquor license, go get mimosas beforehand.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Go bridal shopping.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: So I mean, yeah, because absolutely what sparkly champagne, especially if you're like shopping for a wedding dress, that just makes sense together.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: They go together.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: It's a celebration.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: It's a big moment.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: It's a special moment.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I will say, like, I think that the only places like you and I had a great experience shopping for our wedding, for your wedding, our wedding dress.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, you did keep it for a while.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: You're right, I did.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I was the keeper of the dress.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: I had a oh yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: You must really be good friends.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Maid of honor over there.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I even forgot I did it, but I was it's because it was tucked away tight.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so I feel like you do really need your girlfriends there and your family there.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: You know, you want that experience of them seeing you and their opinions as well.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: But you know, I think also don't bring anyone that you don't like to go dress shopping with.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Or that you just care for their opinion.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Or anyone that just stirs the chili because they want to change the children.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Or if you do, make sure you bring the other one that's gonna say no and shut them down.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: This is what she wants.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: That works well.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I am very bride-facing.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: So if there's something going on, sometimes I try to get in there and help out.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Our brides are amazing.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: Um maybe it's more maybe a bridesmaid or you know, somebody I was gonna ask.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Have you seen like the mother-in-law or the mother?
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Yes, that like gives opinions and you can tell the bride is upset with what they said.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: Um I I'm I know we're getting a little off topic.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: No, no, that's it.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's a fair point.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: So what I did when I moved the space is I took the mirrors out of the room.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: So literally, when they come, because I got to see their first opinion in the mirror in the dressing room with the curtain closed.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: And when I would come out, they would give their opinion and it would totally shoot down the bride because she would love the dress and they wouldn't.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: So now I open the curtain a little bit and I say, when you're ready, the bride, just so you know, the bride can't see herself in here.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: So when she walks out and sees herself in the mirror, you're seeing her first opinion of the dress.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and she also gets to see your first opinion.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So I love that.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: I do too.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: It's been amazing.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: And it would hurt me, physically hurt me if I saw the bride so happy in a dress, and then when she would come out, everybody would be like, ooh, I don't like it.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, and the bride loved it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that happened.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: That's awesome too.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Because then you let her her family see the first, or whoever's with her party see the first impression.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Impression really does make a difference.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: So I it bothered me at first, and then all of a sudden I was like, this is perfect.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: And also, I mean, I can imagine too, like in the dressing room.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, Jen, even with like you and I, when you called, I got called into the room and I was like, yeah, this means business.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: This means business.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: I'm also their biggest advocate as well.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: So if I look at a dress and I'm like, I just don't think we need to go out in this.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: You know, either it's just great, you know, either it's just not fitting right or something, and we clamp them in, we get them in as best as we can.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: But occasionally I'll be like, you know what, let's try on the next one and we'll think about this one.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: That's like great things because I am their their biggest advocate.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: So I want them to go out and feel good about themselves and about the dress.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: And it's also a time thing, too.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: When you have everybody there all at once, like, usually people I know we had like a day planned.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Like it was like this amount of time for dress, yeah, this amount of time for other things.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Like, so that's honestly very helpful.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Really do a lot of wedding parties, like and people are in town for this stuff.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: People travel to come watch brides try out dresses.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Like, that's people are on FaceTime.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Such a gift, honestly.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Like, open the curtains, and this lighting in here is lovely.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: So when you come out and see yourself in the real true lighting versus dressing room like this, not that the dressing room.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: This one and that one are perfect because you can see yourself in the mirror.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: I wish it was perfect on all three, but two of them have the perfect view where they can literally see themselves as they're walking out, and then they turn around and they go to the podium and stand in front of the mirror.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: And so they get to see their first opinion, and it's just amazing.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love that.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm so glad we talked about that.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: This is the whole point of this party.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: It's all the fun.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: Okay, so let's let's move on to classic and timeless or trend of the moment.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: I'm a trendy girl.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: So I'm okay with trendy, but I also love timeless.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: And we have a lot of brides who want timeless.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: And then they come in and they ended up end up going trendy.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: So you just or trendy and end up going timeless.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: You just never know.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: But I love both.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: I have to say both.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: That's a good answer.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: What about you?
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: I think for me, I just I think I'm more of a timeless girly.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: But I also know what looks the best on me, and I feel like it is more of that timeless look just because of my body type.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: Or maybe it's a lack of confidence in like a big ginormous bow on the side, which I love on other people, but I just don't feel like it's much for me.
- 9:49SPEAKER_03: So I feel like if I'm shopping for me, I love timeless.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: But if it's for other people, and it kind of depends on the person's personality, but also at the same time.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, question is a giant bow time hard or trendy?
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: It's a hard one.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's not time hard.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: They're like, they're usually like, does that come off?
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, yeah, it does.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't know.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Like, I yeah, I feel like I go more towards like the time this the timeless, but also I needed glitter in my dress.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: Glitter is timeless.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: I'm the glittering person.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Glitter's good.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's good.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: It's princessy.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: I feel like I needed glitter.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: And lace.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: I've never been married.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: I've never tried on a wedding dress.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I've been a maid of honor too.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: I see one in your feature.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Four people.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: I did two three or four people.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: But thank you.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: That's sweet.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: So I don't know about the styles, except for what I've seen.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: And just in general style, I don't know what you would consider timeless or whatever you said.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: But you said trendy.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, trendy trendy.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Not following the trends, which is like your clothing.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Do you follow the trends?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: What is the current trend?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, can you tell us what the current trend is with wedding dresses?
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: Maskwaist.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: What's that mean?
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: It's the V, it's the V in the front.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: So sort of like a core set look to the dress.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: Dress set, boning.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, some people don't want the boning to show, but you can still have the boning.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: The boning is amazing for the way that the dress fits.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Um, but boning is amazing too.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Sorry about that.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: See, I think that's what the amazing thing is about all dresses, but especially wedding dresses, is I feel like if I were to, I don't know, I would love to have a mixture.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: What about like a boning corset with like a poofy princess?
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Like that brand.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Drop waist right now is in bask waist, um, which are they're just very slimming and look great.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Ball gowns are back.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: A-lines are back.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: People aren't going for the complete fitted dress anymore.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Which I'm all aboard.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I and I'm also with Jen.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I think that whatever your body type is makes its own classic.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: I think sometimes does that make sense to you as a wedding dress person?
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like it looks different on each person.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Like, timeless can look so different on, like, you know, a six-foot slender woman versus like, you know, more me bodied person that's like shorter and a little wider, but curvier.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Like, it's gonna be different what you choose for the timeless look.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think that's so fun.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: But I don't know.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I so again, I'm gonna go both.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: If I were to pick one, I'd want a hybrid.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: I can see that.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: But I also could so see myself being one of the girls that goes, like, oh, I want something trendy and I end up going timeless, or vice versa.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: You know, it's more about the dressing.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: Stay tuned.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's right, Dante.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: We're gonna get you in dresses no matter if you're getting married or not.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, you're gonna put it in and just try on.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: You need to have a wedding dress on your body.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: She would be beautiful.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: That is, I'm blushing.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Our blushing bride.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: How bridly of you?
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: I pay for those.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: There's our clip.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: There's our clip for Instagram.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, so businessy, or even this could be anything, I guess.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: Celebrate the win publicly or keep it close and get back to work, or you celebrate it quietly.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: The wedding.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: No, well, whatever win it is.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, any win.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: It depends on what it is.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's fair.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, maybe it's business growth.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Okay, five years.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Five years.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: That's that's kind of a milestone.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: Like, but are you gonna celebrate it big or do you want to celebrate it quietly?
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, we celebrated it.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't say we celebrated it big, but we did celebrate it and we announced it and did some things.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think those kinds of milestones need to be celebrated and and talked about.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: And because if you don't, they didn't, they never happened.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right?
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: They never happened if you don't.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: I think I think that's yeah.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: So when exactly was your five year?
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: We celebrated it in August.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: I paid my first month's rent in July.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: July 1st was my first month's rent in 2021.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: And we saw brides in August.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: So I just was like, let's just celebrate in August.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: That's so exciting! That was so exciting.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you read that.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: That's half a decade, man.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: You're freaking out it's crazy.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: It went so fast.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: It did.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: It really did.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: It really did.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: But now when I sit back and think about all the brides that we've served, it's it's a lot of brides.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: So what did you do to celebrate?
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: Basically, we just kind of did a post on it.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Well, what about you personally?
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Did you and your family like talk about it?
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Did you and your staff talk about it?
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Our staff did.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Well, let's plan today for what you're gonna do for your next five years.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's right.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Let's go two.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: We go big.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: We go real big.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: We have had a couple of fashion shows.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: So maybe we'll do that.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, can you imagine?
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: That would be a great way to show you.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: That's when I get a dress on.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: We have had a couple of fashion shows.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: So maybe our tenure will be a huge fashion show.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: Hey, stay tuned.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Like cocktail hour, all the sparkles.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, that sounds incredible.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Fun.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: All the sparkles.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: All the sparkles.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: I like that idea.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: I like that idea.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: I think I'm definitely a absolutely a celebrate the win kind of group.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: I they keep me going.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Like I'm a I need my bucket filled kind of person.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: I'm also a person that like if you tell me I'm doing a good job at this, I'm just gonna keep doing better at it.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, positive reinforcement.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: So I like those celebrations.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: I have a group of business owners that I am involved with that we support each other and talk about our wins.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: That's great.
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: Yes, I think mentally, mental, like you know, you can get so overwhelmed as a business owner and you have to celebrate.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: It's a lot.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: It's a lot, it really is.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And honestly, even just as a human, you have to celebrate the wins.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, make sure mental, it's good for your mental health.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: It is, you have to, but like even smiling or spreading any positivity makes you happy.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Like if you see a stranger smiling, it makes you happy.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Unless you're a complete sociopath, which is a good thing.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: It totally changes your whole mood.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it really does.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: My turn.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Well, I am a definitely a celebrate your wins kind of a person.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: As far as like I like celebrating even not wins.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: If I cross off something simple on my to-do list, I am like, let's celebrate.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Let's celebrate.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Because or I like, you know, even if I'm going through dark or kind of difficult time, Jen and I were even discussing things earlier, and I was like, I was like, you know what?
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: And I was just listing all the things that are going good in my life right now because I was like, you know, let's celebrate those because I don't want to focus on any of the other stuff.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: So I think it's always important to celebrate your wins because that's being grateful.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: And being grateful makes you live longer.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like it spreads positivity not only within yourself, but within other people that you encounter around you.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: It's catching.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: It is so contagious.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: And I always I try, you know, everyone needs to do that.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: So I definitely do think celebrating.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: You know, even Jen and I, we celebrated our one year of our podcast.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: We sure did.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: One year.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: And we had a whole number 60.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: That's amazing in itself.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: Well, thank you.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Like when you said that, I was like, wow.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: I am still, I can't believe we're at episode 16.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: It's a fun time, and we've we've gained so much support, and our year is already booked out.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Like it's just crazy to see the community we've grown because we've stayed so positive, we've stayed consistent.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: And I think the reason we've stayed so consistent is because not only have we celebrated our wins, but we've created a community that also celebrates our wins.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: So I love to hear that you have a group as well that celebrates our wins.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: We would love to be a part of that.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: We'd love to have you be a part of ours, which is why we're here.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: I think that that is definitely what we all need.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Is to celebrate.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: I feel like we always like we always come back to this conversation somehow, like in one form or another, which is great.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Gosh, it's because we keep growing.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: And it it is hard because we always are like, we don't want to go over the top.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: You know, we're not like gonna blab, like brag about it, celebrate.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: But we sure love it.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: But we do love to like have an excuse to say cheers.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: It's a good thing you should be proud of it.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Thank you, so absolutely.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: Yay, look at all of us.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: Celebrating our wins.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: That's the only way to go.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: That's why we're here.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: That's why we're here.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_03: Well, now we're gonna talk about Aliap.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Ali.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Aliap.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: So you you had you a hell of a pivot.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: 30 years in MRI before opening Bridally, which is that is a whole career in and of itself.
- 19:05SPEAKER_03: That's amazing.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: What was the actual moment you knew you were going to take the leap?
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: Go out on your own and do this amazing thing.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: You know, it brewed in me for a long time.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: I wanted to be a business owner, but I didn't even know that I wanted to be a business owner.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: I kept asking my husband, and I would say, you know, we should do, you should do this or you should do that.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: And his father, his stepfather was a business owner and did really well.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: And and I would always mention things.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: And he finally one day he looked at me and he goes, I have a job.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: Why do you keep asking me to own a business or open a business?
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Why do I?
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Why do I oh why do I?
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: And then I was like, wait a minute, I think I want to own, I want to be a business owner, I want to be the boss.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but you know, if he did it and he felt it was on him.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it it's you know what I mean?
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: It's like to me, you know, and eventually I wanted to get in there and help him with it, you know what I mean?
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: But I think MRI burned me out, yeah.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: And it really did.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: It was a lot one patient after the other, and then COVID and just all of that kind of stuff.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: And I loved it, and I still love it, don't get me wrong.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: And I actually still work there.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: I thought that's so cool.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: I work two days a week in X-ray.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: I I stepped down as the coordinator for MRI, but I literally just did a stint with them as a I don't know.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: You know, travelers do do that sometimes.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: And they asked me to come in and do a contract because they had a whole bunch of people from the MRI department quit.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: And I was the only one who knew how to run it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: And so they're like, hey, would you think about coming back Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday?
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 13 or 12 hour days.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, oh man, my business, I just don't know.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: So I went home and talked about it, and they were paying me a bunch of money, and I'm like, oh, I think I need to do it.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I did that.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: I did 13 weeks of that, and it was a lot.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but way diversifying is good, yeah.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: But I do still work two days a week in the x-ray department.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Enjoy having that shift.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: I do 10 hours, yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Two 10-hour days.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: It's a lot because I usually don't take a day off.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Sundays.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: I am not open every Sunday, but I am open on Sundays.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Like just like yesterday, we did the Hudson.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: We did the Hudson, and I had a bride before that, so we did a bride, and then we did the Hudson open house, and so I feel like I'm always have something going on.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: And I never get home in time to make dinner.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: My husband has been amazing.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: He has dinner, he does the house cleaning, that's fantastic.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, he's just been amazing.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Props to supportive stuff.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: He works as much as I do, so I don't even he just gets off earlier.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: So he's able to do more than I am.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: And I definitely don't carry the load.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Let me just tell you.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: He's been amazing.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Well, that is so sweet.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: What's his name?
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Sean.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Shadows.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: That is so sweet.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Sweet.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: We love you.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: He's amazing.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: So I work a lot and then I run the business.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: And yeah, it's a lot.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Well, you're doing lovely things here.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: And so I'm kind of too.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: Like, so what was the moment where you were able to tell yourself, okay, I trust myself and I know that this is the time?
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: But like, was there like a a flip that just switched or you know, I sat in the bedroom right next to my husband and did research for months and months and months on bridal.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: I just knew that's what I wanted to do.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: And so I literally, he had no idea what I was doing.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: I didn't talk to him about it.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: I didn't talk to my best friends about it.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: My kids didn't know about it.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: He's probably like she's in there crafting or something.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: I'm on the iPad all the time, you know, and he's like, I don't know what she's doing.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: She's playing games or something.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: You're going down bridal rabbit holes hard.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: So anyway, I just did a lot of research.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: I knew I knew companies that you know I could carry.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: I knew a lot of things just because I did a lot of research.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: But let me tell you, I knew nothing.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: I thought I knew a lot, but there's a lot.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: There's a lot to it.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Bridal is different.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: And it's a lot.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that's how I knew after like a year of research, probably what I what I wanted.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: I finally was like, I think I can do this.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: So I built the business plan and I sent it to my brother-in-law, who's an entrepreneur.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, and yeah, I said, listen, don't tell your mother, don't tell your your brother, but I'm thinking about doing this.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: And I said, I would appreciate it if he would look at it.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: So I had my whole business plans put together.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: And I had done research on all the other companies in town.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: And wow.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: So I sent that to him and he called me and he goes, I think you can do this.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Throughout this research, did you actually reach out to like what do we call them vendors to like fire store and everything?
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Like so that you could be like, hey, like I'm potentially starting this.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: You know, I did.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: And being my bougie self, I reached out to a lot of bougie companies.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: And I bought a lot of bougie stuff.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: And yeah, but I loved it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: You said and yeah, but um, yeah.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: You sound like Jed.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: I finally, I finally it's ridiculous.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: I love my bougie baddies.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: I love my bougie baddies.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: But anyway, yeah, they're like, you have to order so there's so many dresses, you know, and I'm like, oh my gosh, that's a lot of money.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh no, I have to do what?
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Brad is different.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: How many of your bougie dresses?
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: And the thing is, is if I buy these bougie dresses, nobody in town can have them.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: So and if they have these dresses, I can't have them.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: And if they have this company, I can't.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: So that's wild.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: Nobody knows that.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's a game, it's a deal.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's a lot to it.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: I own this.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: All of that.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: So I literally had Excel spreadsheet of who carries what.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: And I did research on their websites and did as much as I could to figure out who they were carrying and who was open so I could carry.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: It was a lot, yeah.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: And especially knowing nothing.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: I had never done anything like this before.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: That sounds so exciting, though.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: You sound like a numbers kind of gal.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: Like you like to see in picture puzzles, don't you?
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I want to know that I have all my ducks in a row in order to know for sure if I can do it or not.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: And so I had all of that put together, and that's my brother-in-law was like, you can do this.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: And so I said, Okay, I'll talk to your brother.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: No.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: And so I went to my husband with the whole plan.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Listen, I talked to work.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: They said I can do two days a week at the hospital.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: You went with him, you went to him with a plan.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: I had a whole plan.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: I had a budget, I had everything, and he's like, I love it.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: I didn't know.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: He goes, and you talk to my brother, and I'm like, Yes, I did.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: I had the whole plan.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: And he's like, Well, all right, let's do it.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, you gotta love that.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he loves that very supportive.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: And it's it's helpful when you have that not just support, but excitement, yeah, type of support.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's very excited for me.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: I think that's fantastic.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: That just like when you have someone you can go home and share the joy with, it's oh, it makes such a different thing.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the people who lift you up, it's amazing.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: I had one of my friends from high school, her mom texted me the other day and she's like, I voted for you every day for Best of Wichita.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: And she does it every year.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Every year.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: And she doesn't even live here.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: That's so sweet.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Sorry if that's cheating, but no, daughter loose here.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, so she's I voted for you every single day.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: But she comes to Wichita all the time to see her daughter, so yeah.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: So you are you learned this entire industry from scratch.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: Like you're like, I had no one teaching me.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: I had no one teaching me.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: I did get a business coach about three years in.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Smart.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: Very good.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: And they are in the business, uh-huh.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Multi-million dollar business.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: They are amazing.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: So shout out to my boss, that's what I call her.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Um, her name's Mindy.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Mindy.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: I love Mindy.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: She's amazing.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: So yeah, she's great.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: But no, I had no idea.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: So I started very small, and you know where my old space was.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, it was uh gallery alley.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Gallery alley.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: It was less than 400 square feet.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: So if you can think about this, this part of the store is only 1600.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: And I feel like I'm as soon as I moved in, I was like, I don't even know how I did it down there.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: How did I do it?
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Was it by appointment only there?
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: It was, and so that was a big deal for me.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: I I was afraid that I would lose some brides because I was private, and it was such a wonderful experience.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: They were the only people in the store, and it was really, really good.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: And we won Best of Wichita first year open.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, our first year open, we won Best of Wichita.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Well, we've won.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: We've won first or second every year we've been open.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: So fabulous.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: We'll find out in December.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we were nominated.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: December is when they crud it.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: When they yeah, they gotta go tally up all those boats.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: That's exciting.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: So you say you started it from scratch, but like, do you have like I picture the movie Bridal Wars where they're romanticizing their weddings since they were little girls?
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Like, was that you?
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Or like was that you when you had your wedding?
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: You're gonna laugh.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Like, I wanna know.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: No, not that I would ever sit or what not yeah, not that I would ever do this because I started in radiology very young, but I used to my sister could sew, and she was 10 years older than I was.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: And so she says that every one of my Barbies had a wedding dress.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: I would make her make my Barbie's wedding dresses only.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: So only wedding dresses with veils to match.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: And she would make them little flower bouquets.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: And then I would take my brothers, would take the stick pins with a little round circle.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: And they would cut them off for me so that I could put them in the Barbie's ears.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: So amazing.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Barbies with wedding dresses, and my sister made them for me out of like my grandma would, yeah, my grandma would give her fabric and like Please tell me you still have these Barbies.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: I don't, I wish I did.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, so I would want to put them in picture boxes on the wall.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: No one saved.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Let's remake them.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: She did make this dress for me.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Go get it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Go get it.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's gorgeous.
- 30:07SPEAKER_03: Oh, wow.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: Oh my so she ended up making your wedding dress.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Kind of.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: She made it for me to have my pictures taken in.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love it though.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: But that is, I'm gonna show the show the camera.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: Beautiful.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: So it was my first wedding.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: I remarried.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Hey, well, I still love the sentiment of it.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I knew that it stemmed from somewhere.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Like they're having a chance.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: There's inner child, yeah.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is so cool.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: Gosh, I love that.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that is.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: So I was a Barbie kid and I loved my yeah, I loved my wedding dresses.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my sister's amazing.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: So Micah, you had your whole family involved.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: That is so that is.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: I wonder what they all said when you finally started doing this.
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: Like what my besties too.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: They'll come and work for me occasionally if I need like at my fashion show.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: I had three of my besties here.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, so yeah, they came and helped.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: My granddaughter.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: Please invite us to your next one.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: My granddaughter works for me.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: She's 17 and she's one of my bridal stylists.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: She's amazing.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Well, I always tell her, I said, you know, someday you'll take over, so you need to know the business.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: That's perfect.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: And because we do our own collection.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: So literally we design and we can do customizations and different things like that.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: It's called the Amora Rose collection.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: And she's always like Amora Rose.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Moira.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Moira Rose.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Moira.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: Moira Rose for Sid Streak.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: I cried when she died.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: I did too.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Not kidding.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: You did too.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: And then I started another collection that I haven't completely fulfilled yet, but it's called The Clover and Lace, and that's my newest granddaughter's Clover.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: With a K.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love that name, and I love that.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: There's so much meaning to all of this.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: And you already have an heir to the business.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Just a through.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: It's incredible.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: This is so fun.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: I love learning things like this.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: This is why we're going to be able to do that.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: So I'm glad I asked.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: Gosh, I'm just going to do that.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: I am too.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: I am too.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: That is that inner child shining is crazy.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: I've always been, I'd love to go to weddings and brides, and I'm like one of the criers.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: I like crying.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: I cry at the Hallmark commercial.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: I show up.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: I chew up, you know, the poltergeist.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: And it's like from the 80s.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: I choke up too, like, golly, every time.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: It's good though.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: That's like another way of.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: I try so hard not to, though.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: Oh, I do too.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: I used to until I married Tim, and Tim will sit there and cry right next to me.
- 32:55SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, oh well, if he's crying to me.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Well, like when I give speeches and stuff too, like I just like blackout and give the speeches away.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, what did I say?
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Jen.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: I don't remember what I said at Jen's wedding.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: I wasn't ready to tell you that.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: First fashion show that I did hold, we had Sierra Scott come and do the MC.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you guys knew who Sierra.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Well, anyway, they didn't tell me that they were gonna have me come up and talk.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: And so she she gave me the mic, and I said, that's great, but I said, Don't leave me.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: And she left me, and I'm a crier.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Like nervous, I cry.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Like so doing this and doing a couple of fashion shows and getting them under my belt, I've gotten really a lot better about it.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: I don't cry, but it takes everything within me because when I get nervous, I cry when I'm nervous, I cry when I'm mad, I cry when I'm sad, I cry when I'm happy.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: It's like it's a thing.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: And so when I get nervous, that's the first thing I want to do is start crying.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: And I have no idea why.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: So when I'm talking at Bridal Expo, or if I'm talking, and I MC'd my own fashion show this year, and it was like I didn't cry till the very end.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: I will MC your next fashion show if you want me to.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Apparently, I'm great in front of crowds, but I don't remember what I say, but I do a great job.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: You do a good job.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: Everybody's telling me that I do a great job.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: I kind of black out those.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: I've been through like the same way.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Well, because you know, it's good for them to know I know the dresses inside and out.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: So the fact that I know and that's Sean Prolego Prolago from Black Tie Celebrations.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: He also owns the Bridal Expo.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: He does my fashion shows.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: So he was at my fashion show when I emceed myself.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: And I didn't know that he was buying the bridal expo at the time, but he was like, Hey, that was amazing, and you should do that every time.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: And then when he took over the bridal expo, he said, Listen, that's the kind of people that it actually like hits.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he said, when we're having your dresses up there on the fashion show stage, will you do what you did at your fashion show?
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: And I said, Oh my god, you have no idea how hard that is for me.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: But I said, I absolutely will do it.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: Your face, your dresses, I've done it twice.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: I've done it twice now at Bridal Expo.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: So, and that's what I said.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: It's perfect because it's my dresses.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: It's it's my I know them, I know the models that have come in to try them on.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, it just that's what does it is that when you're up there in front of them, too, you know everything already.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: So your emotions just kind of are like this vibrating shell while you're saying everything.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: But I'm still it's still so hard, you guys.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Because if you have any idea what's going on inside my brain at that time, it's like I can only imagine what I've been the same way when I know.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: And I'm always asking, Did I do okay?
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: Because it's so scary to me.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: So is there is there a moment where like you settle into it and you're not so nervous, or are you nervous the whole time?
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: I'm nervous the whole time.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, okay.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: Well, apparently you're crushing it.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: Well, then you're very brave and courageous.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: So I love that you're embracing that and getting out of your comfort zone.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's definitely out of my comfort zone, but you know, it's my business.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: And I'm doing it for my business.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: And here's the thing, like I don't know.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Growth comes from growth comes from getting uncomfortable, you know.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: It really does.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: So look at you.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Like, before you know it, here in a couple years or even after a few more events, you might get so used to it that you're not nervous at all.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it's already getting better for sure.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: I think that's fantastic.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: Look at you now.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, just talking here.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: I told you guys before we started, I'm nervous.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: I'm always nervous.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: We hear that from everybody, though.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: We have a girl that we're we're having on later, well, in January, and she's she's doing the ICT Fashion Week, and she's like, we're gonna have to do shambongs before we record.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: I know exactly who that is.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: That's my girl Cynthia.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: Cynthia's like, we're doing shambongs.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: I'm like, we're not against free gaming.
- 36:58unknown: That's fine.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: Like, that's perfect.
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: That's perfect.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: That's my girl Cynthia.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she's fantastic.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Shout out to I I love that she's gonna embrace like she is terrified to come on her, but I'm like, it's like we're just having a conversation, right?
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: That's all we're doing.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and there's a camera, and whatever.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: We love you guys.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Thanks for listening.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: You see all my bad angles, and I love you.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, so the the bet building around experience first.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: So here we go.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Like, because we we were talking earlier about how buying a dress is an experience.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I want to talk, I want you to talk more about your thoughts on all of that because that's why we're here, right?
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: So honestly, it came from the very beginning.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: I literally work with tons of women, and so I started going around and talking to the women that I work with that had just recently been married.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, how was your experience?
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: Did you enjoy it?
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: Tell me the good things, tell me the bad things, you know, all of those things.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you, girls, I did a lot of research.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: And so they were, and then I was hearing about how if you your wedding wasn't with within a certain time frame, they wouldn't see you on a Saturday or something like that.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: And then budgets were factored in, all these different things.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, what do you mean what do you mean if it wasn't in a certain time frame?
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: Like hour-wise?
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: No, like 18 months out or 12 months out, yeah, exactly.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: Um, and so I don't know.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: I felt like they were being treated like numbers, and they were being treated like they were being, I don't know, there was a lot of things that I was seeing that I was like, oh, I I wouldn't like that if I was the bride.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so I kind of built it around that, and I'm like, I want this to be a memory and an experience.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: I don't want it to feel like a cell.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: I I honestly don't.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: And I know that may be detrimental to my company, but I know I have to have cells in order to keep going.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: But I want you to walk out of here and be like, that was the best experience ever.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: And like we had a bride call last a week ago Saturday, and she literally called like right before we were leaving, and she's like, Listen, I left your guys' store that morning.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: She said, I went to two other stores and I just did not have a good experience.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: Can we come back?
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: I want to buy from you.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Yay!
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: And so we're like did she want a dress that she had tried on because she wanted to store yeah, she did.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: She actually loved a dress, and then you know, she said, I just felt like I couldn't say yes, and that is what's going on with with brides right now.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: They feel like they have to go to at least at the least three stores and try on at the 30 dresses.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: It is happening on and it's it's a trend.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, honestly.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: I know if you go to the the knots website and read their blog, they're telling people that.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: Because I remember when I was a bride, it was like rule of thumb, go to at least three places.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: I went to one.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: It is, and they feel like they have to try on so many dresses, and every bride I had to sleep on it.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: It's I can see that, so which I completely understand.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: It is a big purchase, yeah, and it's a huge deal.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: So we get a lot of second looks, sure.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: And I'm okay with that because I want them to know that they're making the right choice.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: I want them to feel comfortable about this large expense that they're making.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and but I also want them to have an experience.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so we get a lot of people who are like referrals, we get a lot of referrals.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: I bet.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: So yeah, and I was gonna ask too, because a lot of the second looks too sometimes I know a lot of it is a lot of my friends have had their like mother-in-laws or their mothers helping or whoever helping pay for their dress.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: But they don't they like they may have not been able to make the first appointment, or maybe they didn't want them to come to the first appointment because they wanted their own opinions and then they wanted them for the second.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Like, have you ever seen something like that?
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, or like where maybe we'll have a bride come in either by herself or with a bestie, yeah, or with just her mom, uh-huh, and she'll say, I want you to, I love this dress, and I definitely want to come back, but I want to bring my group, yeah, and when they come in, I want you to bring them like you don't know me.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, we can do that.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: It happens all the time.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: So they will come back and we'll you know, we'll pull like so many dresses and they'll make that one their best, their favorite, and yeah, it happens a lot, or they're like, I went shopping with all of my friends, and it was horrible.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: And so many opinions and so many you know, drama and all of the things, and they're like, I'm back to just shop with my mom, yeah, or just shop with my best friend, or whatever, and they're like, I'm yeah, and that is funny.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: I feel like I would do it the opposite.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: I would do first one with just like Jen, and maybe and like my sister-in-law, and maybe my mom if she was available, and then I would be like, Okay, second look, now that we have it down narrowed down to one or two, now I'm gonna bring everyone in.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, it's actually really smart.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Like, it really is so many plans.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: There's so many different differing opinions, and they're not always and that can be stressful, especially depending what else is going on in the bride's life right there, planning for everything.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: But I feel like the way that we do it now, when they come out and they can see their expression on their face, you know, you see a bride, they start moving in a dress, they kind of move back and forth, and yeah, you know, they they get a smile on their face, things like that.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: You can see it.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: And so when they get to see that first, I think that it really helps them to really support the bride because they see that they see their face, they tend to watch that, they tend to watch their face and really keep an eye on that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: That's what I saw when Jen found her dress.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: First of all, I got can we get the meat of modern hero?
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's me.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: And then I went in there and I was like, Oh, yeah, because I was reacting a certain way in the dressing room.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: I was like, as soon as I walked in, I was like, and then I saw it happening, and I was like, okay.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: Like the smile just wouldn't leave the face.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: And I was like, this is happening.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: That's something we knew.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: Well, and I feel like there's a lot of pressure to I feel like there's a lot of pressure to overthink.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: And there was a lot of pressure because there were a lot of people there.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: We had a lot of people.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Which can be nerve-wracking for the bronze.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: It really can.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: Because you don't want to hurt any of your friends' feelings.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: Well, that's me.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: And I But it's my dress.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: And so I was on the hair.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: I was just like, yes, yes, yes.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: She was like, I need Rachel to support this before I go out there.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: You know, we're very we're so easygoing here.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: We're like, you know, if you want to bring 10 people, we'll make it work.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: I don't we do highly do not suggest.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: But we will make it work if that's what you absolutely have to have.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: And I get that because you know, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, grandma, sister, sister, sister, sister, bridesmaid, bridesmaid.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: I get it.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: It's a thing.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: I get it.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you just can't leave anyone out.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: And you know, just like you, like, I can't leave anybody out either.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: No.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: I'd be like, no, I have to have everyone because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: So I totally get that.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: So I'm like, yes, we will take 10 people and we'll make it work.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: You may be like really cozy.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: But we'll make it work.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: So I'm we're just easy here.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: We're just we just want the bride to have the best experience.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: No, yeah.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: So I loved what you said about experience because you mentioned that earlier.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: She walks out and you see her first face.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: That is that is the most important thing is how you feel in the dress as a bride.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: And I saw that in in your face.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: And I want to see that.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: I would want to see that in every bride's face.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: If I were in your role.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: And so I love that.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: You want that for everybody.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: It's very important to me.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: I don't want anybody to feel like they don't look beautiful.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: I don't want anyone to feel like they have, you know, a bad experience, even if it's not our fault, if it's somebody in the in the you know, the group's fault.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: We we support them back behind the curtain.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: We're like, you know.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: How do you feel?
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: How do you feel?
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: How does the stress make you feel?
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: And you have to remember this is your choice, not your second cousin's choice.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: This is your choice.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: So you have to be comfortable in it.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: You have to love it.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: So you've been you've been running.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: Okay, so we're gonna jump kind of into business owner brain, you know.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: So you've been running this business now for five years, hiring, inventory, marketing, the whole gamut.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: Which of those has taught you the most about yourself as an owner?
- 46:06SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, kindness.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: I'm very kind.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I like to be a fun boss, a kind boss, you know.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: But you have to realize as an employee that you can't mistake kindness for weakness, you know, because I am going to protect my company and my brand over anything that's so important to me.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: So just you know, that's probably the hardest, hardest part of it is to draw the lines and keep that perfect balance.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's hard to do.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: It really is.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: Well, it is, and I think I feel like you're all no matter what, being the person that you are, and any staff that you have in here too, like anywhere, if anywhere you go, you're at the grocery store, you're ever at Dylan's, you're still the owner of Bridley Boutique.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: And so, like, it's a thing, like, yeah, you're always representing your brand.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and so are you.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: It doesn't matter where I'm at, like you have to be careful about what you do online, you have to be careful about how you act in in person in public because people might see you, and and I'm recognizable because I am on my Instagram and things like that.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: And I've had people say, Oh, I know who you are, you know.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: So it's very important that I represent myself, which is easy to do because I am that person.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's you have to draw that line.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: You mean with like the managing side of it?
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the managing side of it because I am type, I'm not type A.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: You may think that I don't know what I'm doing, but I guarantee you I do.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: Because I'm not type A.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Everything isn't in a perfect place, and you know, I don't have it all work out perfectly, but you know what?
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: I know what I'm doing.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've I've got it.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: Just you know.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: It's your baby.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: It's my baby.
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: It's your it might be a little bit of organized failure.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: You might look at upstairs at my desk and go, oh my god.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: But by time, I know where everything is.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: I absolutely understand that.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: That makes perfect sense.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, kind actually, like in the old Latin word kind got mistaken for like kind, you know, it's it's looked down upon to be kind sometimes.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: And I think that's especially in business, but in the new age, I think that it's switched to where we need that to switch the but we need to switch the definition of it.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: And I agree.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Well, because it's hard to draw that line because of kind but serious.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because you you the experience is what I'm talking about here, and I want everything to be kosher here.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: I want everybody to feel and so if you're if you're not in a good place with your employees or with your company, you're gonna feel that.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: So yeah, the flow is gonna be.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: Very cohesive and yeah, everyone's on the same page.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Yes, yep.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Jen and I talk a lot about that.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: I feel like where we it is difficult to switch.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: It just as women in general in the workforce, as a human in the workforce, with all sorts of different breeds of humans that are different sorts of mentalities, yeah, personalities, settings, mentalities.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like it's it there's a lot out there to work with, and you know, absolutely I've alignment is very important.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: Alignment is so important, yeah.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: No matter what it is, whether it's a co-worker, whether it's you know, a co-host, whether it's or whether it's a guest, shout out to you, Joe.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: Shout out, whether it's a sponsor, shout out.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Cohesiveness is definitely important across the board.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: So we cannot agree more.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Because it all affects everything, yeah.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 49:45SPEAKER_02: So I really need a type A person in here to help me.
- 49:48SPEAKER_03: Okay, so let's talk about is there a time that like early in your adventure with Bride Lou Boutique, was there a mistake that you made early on that was not really funny in the moment, but now that you look back on it, you can kind of laugh at it as a business owner?
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh, I don't know, that's a hard one.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Little mistakes, I guess, like not knowing what I was doing, really, honestly, and I'm being honest.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: There were times that I had to learn really dumb mistakes.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: Like I would buy a dress from one company and a dress from another company, and they would get here, and I would be like, that is the same dress.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Growing pain.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, so I've definitely laughed.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: And and I've done it even recently.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh my gosh, that is literally the same dress from one company from another company.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: And I could imagine because you kind of forget what you order, and then you go.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: Well, you're gonna assist and I've done it, I have done it.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: I am I am not gonna lie.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: That would be me.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: Lots of mistakes.
- 50:51SPEAKER_02: I have made lots of mistakes over the years, let me tell you.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Hey, have you ever had one of those mistakes end up being a blessing?
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, many times, yes.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: And that is your good karma coming back to you.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: One of my best friends are like, look at that, that blessing.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: You're just getting all the blessings.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: You're oopsie daisies did that, but it worked out.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: We have that happen often.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: And I think it's because we have good karma somewhere in our belt.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: You have to, I feel like you kind of have to be open to laughing about it later.
- 51:23SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, if you keep it.
- 51:25SPEAKER_03: I guess that about it.
- 51:26SPEAKER_02: You're in the wrong business.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you shouldn't be in business.
- 51:31SPEAKER_01: Or if those happy little mistakes happen, you have to be like, okay, well, time to get creative.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, I am very creative.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, I'm very creative.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 51:39SPEAKER_02: Our bridal expo was amazing this year.
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: That's such a great event.
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: I love that it's the legacy keeps going with that, and apparently getting better.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: So that's wonderful.
- 51:50SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 51:51SPEAKER_03: Okay, so what's next for Bridley?
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: You know, I don't want to let too many secrets out.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: Just be mysterious.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: We'll see how this year goes.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Every year I say that.
- 52:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, summers are hard.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: Summers are hard in bridal, which you would think the opposite.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: Most people think that this is our busy time, but it's not.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Well, they've already established their wedding dress before June, right?
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so yeah.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Summer's our struggle.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, the first summer I almost didn't make it, and I'm like, oh my god.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: I thought that was gonna be my busiest time because I was like everyone else, and not knowing anything, I'm like, where's the brides?
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they were not there.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: So the first summer was really hard, and I thought I was gonna literally die my first year.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: So, but you know what?
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: I made it through, and I make it through every year, and the blessings just keep coming.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Good, and here five years later.
- 52:47SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'm here five years later in a building four times the size you're gonna be.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: The the lighting coming through the windows when brides were here is amazing.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: They they look amazing in the dresses, and the pictures come out great.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Oh, I bet they do.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, I do.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, magical.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: I'm such a nerd when it comes to content in general.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: So but oh my god, I love that so much.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: You know, the next more space, maybe?
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 53:17SPEAKER_02: More space.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: I'm always thinking about moving things around.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I'm always thinking about adding things.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: I would love to possibly have more mothers of the tr the bride dress, more of the broom dress.
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: I think that would love to do a quick cocoa, cocktail, evening wear, pageant, quincinera.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's so many things that I could do and get deeper into tuxedos.
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of things that I want to do.
- 53:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, we'll just have to see where things go.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: But that's exciting.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: We have time.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and it sounds like you're very open-minded to different directions, an array of things.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, and we know you're in there just studying away.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: I know research, research, research, research, studying away.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you little research bug.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: I do, I do.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: I do a lot of research.
- 54:14SPEAKER_02: If you could see all of the screenshots on my in my photos, it's my family someday when I'm gone, they're gonna be like, I don't know how to find any family photos because they're all screenshots.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: Of bridal of wedding dresses.
- 54:27SPEAKER_02: Do we even know this person?
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's so bad.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: Well, many years away from there.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna, very many.
- 54:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: Well, why don't you tell everyone how they can find Bridely Boutique?
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: Like where, your socials, website, all of that, all that goodness.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, first of all, we are at the corner of Douglas and Hillside at 3200 East Douglas Avenue.

- 54:59SPEAKER_02: Kirsty Alley used to rent it.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: For those oldies boogities that know who Christy Alley is, she's amazing.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: She is dancing with the stars, okay.
- 55:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, killed it.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: Yes, she's such a great personality.
