- 0:19Speaker 1: What's up, it's Brian. And before we get rolling, I
- 0:21Speaker 1: just wanted to let you know, this episode sounds a
- 0:25Speaker 1: little different. Now for some backstory, I've had my trusty
- 0:28Speaker 1: digital recorder for years, probably a decade or so. I've
- 0:32Speaker 1: recorded pretty much every episode on this recorder in our
- 0:35Speaker 1: home base, out in the But several weeks back, it
- 0:42Speaker 1: did a weird glitch that at the time I thought
- 0:44Speaker 1: was a one-off. And then recording the last Horror Club episode,
- 0:48Speaker 1: it did a whole new weird thing.
- 0:50Speaker 2: That actually, I have.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Been able to work around and save that episode, but
- 0:54Speaker 1: it's taking about twice as long to get it back
- 0:56Speaker 1: on track. But don't worry, the next Horror Club episode
- 0:59Speaker 1: is already in the works and will be posted soon.
- 1:02Speaker 1: But when it came time to record our Guardians episode,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I just didn't trust the recorder we had been using
- 1:07Speaker 1: to not mess things up again. so I tried pulling
- 1:09Speaker 1: out the recorder we were using before that and hooking
- 1:12Speaker 1: it up again. Well, that one also decided to not
- 1:15Speaker 1: work right. Luckily, me being the paranoid bastard that I am,
- 1:18Speaker 1: I actually had several different tracks running when George and
- 1:21Speaker 1: I sat down, just so we'd come out with some version. So,
- 1:25Speaker 1: some of the tracks didn't record at all, and I
- 1:27Speaker 1: spent a couple of days going over the other tracks
- 1:29Speaker 1: I had to work with, and this was the best version.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It's got a lot more echo to it than I'm
- 1:35Speaker 1: normally comfortable with, but you can hear us, and if
- 1:37Speaker 1: you didn't know what it normally sounds like, maybe you
- 1:40Speaker 1: wouldn't notice. I know some shows out there record like
- 1:43Speaker 1: this all the time, but I work really hard to
- 1:45Speaker 1: make sure everything sounds as best as it possibly can.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So for me, this was a departure, and that's why
- 1:52Speaker 1: I wanted to just give you a little heads up
- 1:54Speaker 1: why it sounds like this this time around. But don't worry,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I've already gone in the hole on a new updated recorder.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So things are looking good and should be sounding good
- 2:03Speaker 1: in the future. But I wasn't joking. We are in
- 2:05Speaker 1: debt on this one. Thankfully, there was a little work
- 2:08Speaker 1: with from our Patreon supporters, and I thank them very much.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They are the reason the show is able to operate
- 2:13Speaker 1: all these years. But what little we had just sort
- 2:16Speaker 1: of put a dent in the cost of that new recorder.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So if you aren't already a member and would like
- 2:21Speaker 1: to help support the show, go to MovieMeltdown.com and join
- 2:23Speaker 1: the Horror Club. And then you too will help keep
- 2:26Speaker 1: this rocket firing. Speaking of Rocket, let's go ahead and
- 2:29Speaker 1: get rolling on this very fun Guardians discussion.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I'm Sean Gunn, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Movie Meltdown.
- 2:50Speaker 5: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 2:52Speaker 5: Picture Association of America.
- 2:54Speaker 3: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 3:08Speaker 3: It's showtime, folks. Enjoy the show. our nuclear reactor, pumping
- 3:16Speaker 3: out one million kilowatts of power. What's up and welcome
- 3:45Speaker 3: to Movie Meltdown, I'm Brian. And I'm George.
- 3:47Speaker 5: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 3:51Speaker 5: the Odyssey Studios. Back for another installment of the Super Series. Which.
- 4:10Speaker 3: It's gone back and forth for me. Okay. In the
- 4:12Speaker 3: last phase.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I was thinking about that recently, because a lot of
- 4:16Speaker 1: people online are grumbling about the last phase. Mm-hmm. And
- 4:20Speaker 1: I was like, well, yeah, I wasn't thrilled with some
- 4:22Speaker 1: of them along the way. And I looked, and it's
- 4:24Speaker 1: like there's that peak in the middle. I really enjoyed
- 4:26Speaker 1: the Doctor Strange, and I really liked the final Spider-Man.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. And the other ones are all kind of like, yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 3: they're fine. But I don't feel like I want to
- 4:34Speaker 3: revisit them a whole lot. I could... I mean, I...
- 4:38Speaker 3: I have a general love for Marvel anyway just because
- 4:40Speaker 3: I grew up as a Marvel kid reading comics. So
- 4:44Speaker 3: I'm happy just to get anything. I'm that kind of
- 4:48Speaker 3: fan where I remember the dark days where you would
- 4:50Speaker 3: get occasionally a superhero movie and maybe it was good.
- 4:54Speaker 3: But you had a 40% chance that it was going
- 4:57Speaker 3: to be good and a 60% chance that it was
- 4:58Speaker 3: going to suck.
- 4:59Speaker 1: They just didn't make them theatrically for a long time
- 5:02Speaker 1: there or at least giant stretches of time when they
- 5:04Speaker 1: were like, we can't do that. So until the magic
- 5:07Speaker 1: of CG.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Came along and we can do whatever the hell we
- 5:09Speaker 3: want now, like, so. Yeah, there are certain, you know,
- 5:12Speaker 3: little high points, like Blade was a high point early
- 5:15Speaker 3: on and, you know. But that's one people even kind
- 5:17Speaker 3: of forget is one.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They're just like, oh, that's more of like a horror movie.
- 5:21Speaker 3: You're like, I mean, he's a vampire. Yeah. But, you know. Yeah, yes,
- 5:25Speaker 3: it is a horror movie.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It's a horror movie, but it's also a horror comic
- 5:29Speaker 1: and that's how it got to be a movie.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So yeah, there's the little peaks along the way of,
- 5:35Speaker 1: But yeah.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I can at least see the argument that basically, okay, it's,
- 5:39Speaker 3: you know, Phase 1 was so epic because it was
- 5:43Speaker 3: all new. It was covering territory that fans had wanted
- 5:47Speaker 3: to see. We wanted to see Captain America and Thor
- 5:50Speaker 3: and Iron Man, basically the whole Avengers on screen. We
- 5:53Speaker 3: wanted to see all that stuff. And we finally were
- 5:55Speaker 3: getting it. We're getting quality films. And we're also, it
- 5:58Speaker 3: was so exciting. It was so new. and there was
- 6:01Speaker 3: so much buzz to it, and then building up to
- 6:03Speaker 3: your first Avengers, and then basically taking us all the
- 6:05Speaker 3: way the path to Infinity War and Endgame to kind
- 6:08Speaker 3: of cap off that run.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Oh my God, yeah, that was absolutely epic. It was
- 6:13Speaker 1: so epic that I think they also killed themselves. They
- 6:16Speaker 1: shot themselves in the foot.
- 6:17Speaker 3: We're just like, shit, what do we do now?
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't know, make a Spider-Man real quick while they're
- 6:21Speaker 1: not thinking about it.
- 6:23Speaker 3: This is literally the sports equivalent of we've won the
- 6:26Speaker 3: state title and then everybody graduates and now we've got
- 6:30Speaker 3: a whole new team. We're starting all over. Yeah, we've
- 6:32Speaker 3: got the bad news bears now. The rebuilding year. And
- 6:36Speaker 3: that's exactly what this is. Yeah. This is the rebuilding here.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So I've had the patience to know that and, you know,
- 6:42Speaker 3: wait to see what we're going to build towards. And
- 6:45Speaker 3: we are building towards another pair of Avengers films.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yeah, they're coming out in 25 and 26 respectively. But
- 6:51Speaker 3: we are waiting for some Avengers films. And we've got
- 6:54Speaker 3: a lot of building here. Now, of course, you know,
- 6:56Speaker 3: we have kind of our, you know, first real good
- 6:58Speaker 3: look at our big bad, Ming Kang. Don't know if
- 7:01Speaker 3: Jonathan Majors is... I was going to say, we haven't
- 7:03Speaker 3: had a chance to discuss that. When we watched the movie,
- 7:06Speaker 3: he hadn't totally gotten himself in trouble. There was already inklings,
- 7:10Speaker 3: I feel like. Yeah. Whispers of him pulling weird shit.
- 7:13Speaker 3: But now he's full on in a lot of trouble.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And rightfully so, if it's all true. So, I mean,
- 7:19Speaker 3: I don't know. I wonder if he's going to be
- 7:22Speaker 3: playing that role. Well, you know, the whole thing with...
- 7:28Speaker 3: DC and their Ezra Miller problem with the Flash movie. Yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 3: same thing. I'm literally thinking, yeah, different crime, same kind
- 7:35Speaker 3: of jerk. Well, from the beginning, I just didn't like him.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Like, even that first time we saw Justice League, I'm
- 7:41Speaker 1: just like, what is this casting? I was just like, he's,
- 7:44Speaker 1: I mean, I guess for certain movies, a weird, uncomfortable
- 7:47Speaker 1: movie like everybody knew him from to begin with, sure, whatever.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But I'm like, that's the Flash.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I was like, this is weird. Yeah, the Flash isn't
- 7:55Speaker 3: the awkward... They're trying to make, basically, the Flash like Spider-Man,
- 8:00Speaker 3: where he's nerdy, he's awkward, he's weird, you know, sort
- 8:04Speaker 3: of thing like that. He doesn't fit. Yes, not that
- 8:06Speaker 3: version of Spider-Man. That's not Barry Allen. Barry Allen's a
- 8:09Speaker 3: completely different kind of character. Yes, he is a scientific
- 8:13Speaker 3: character because he's a chronologist and he's a CSI investigator.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Did I say investigator twice? I did, yeah. So he's
- 8:20Speaker 3: a CS investigator. But anyway, yeah, so he's, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 3: He is a scientific and technical character, but he's not
- 8:28Speaker 3: nerdy and awkward and weird. He's a nice guy. He's
- 8:31Speaker 3: very hopeful and he's bright side of things, even though
- 8:35Speaker 3: he's lived in a lot of darkness. It made it so.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Much harder because we came off of having a good,
- 8:41Speaker 1: really good version of him on TV.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yep. So it's like.
- 8:44Speaker 1: they got perfect casting there. Like he is nerdy, but
- 8:48Speaker 1: super likable. Like he can be quirky, but it doesn't.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Come off as awkward. It's just kind of, Hey, he's
- 8:52Speaker 3: just kind of dorky, but that's why we love him. Yeah. Yeah. Great.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Don't get that from him. Like, you're just like, Oh,
- 8:58Speaker 1: who's this guy? And that was before he got in trouble.
- 9:02Speaker 1: It was like, just from the get go, I was like, No, really?
- 9:04Speaker 1: Who is this guy?
- 9:05Speaker 3: Why is he in our movie? And that was the
- 9:06Speaker 3: best thing, too, is that all the fans were just like, okay, well,
- 9:10Speaker 3: forget Ezra, recast Grant. Just put Grant Gustin in there.
- 9:13Speaker 3: We already love that. Do the crossover in the movies.
- 9:16Speaker 3: There you go. Or don't even address it as a crossover.
- 9:20Speaker 3: This is just a... A different timeline. Go for it. Yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 3: we got different timelines and different crossovers and multiversal kind
- 9:27Speaker 3: of stuff. It's a different area. It happens in The
- 9:29Speaker 3: Flash all the time. Yeah, literally. This is a good
- 9:32Speaker 3: way to do that. Yeah, so... Yeah, but anyway, so
- 9:35Speaker 3: I'm with you. I'm curious to see if Jonathan Majors
- 9:39Speaker 3: is going to stay in the role.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Was good in that last movie, I suppose.
- 9:44Speaker 1: But again, I don't know that we were attached enough
- 9:47Speaker 1: to him that, like, if they got somebody equal, he
- 9:50Speaker 1: is impressive, that we couldn't switch out and be okay.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we were fine with Rhodey. I mean,
- 9:55Speaker 3: we had Terrence Howard I think we got way better.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I do too. I mean, I like Don Cheadle way
- 10:00Speaker 3: more than I like Terrence Howard.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Terrence Howard serves purposes in specific projects, but like,
- 10:05Speaker 1: Rhodey is lovable. You know, it's just like, he's just,
- 10:09Speaker 1: once you get in there, like, he's a super lovable
- 10:11Speaker 1: character and like, you didn't get that from Terrence Howard.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Like, he's just much like Robert Downey Jr. We all
- 10:18Speaker 3: just kind of bristle with him like he's like I
- 10:21Speaker 3: mean we like him as he.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Helped him out but you know yeah it's not the
- 10:26Speaker 1: same once you get to Don Cheadle he's just a
- 10:28Speaker 1: super charismatic guy well and.
- 10:31Speaker 3: The chemistry is there between Robert and Don where it's
- 10:34Speaker 3: like they actually do seem like friends I never got
- 10:37Speaker 3: that with Terrence.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Howard no which again I mean they're still finding their
- 10:40Speaker 1: feet on that first movie anyway but still like there
- 10:43Speaker 1: was definitely a disconnect there that you don't get once
- 10:46Speaker 1: you get Don Cheadle yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 3: No, sorry. But, yes, I mean, we will see how
- 10:51Speaker 3: things go. I mean, they did have a lot riding
- 10:55Speaker 3: on this guy because he's basically going to be a
- 10:57Speaker 3: major part of the remaining phase until we get to
- 11:01Speaker 3: the two Avengers films where we face off with Kang. So, yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 3: we're going to probably still stick with Kang. Whether or
- 11:07Speaker 3: not Jonathan Majors will stay in the role remains to
- 11:10Speaker 3: be seen. I think they're so far in on, I mean,
- 11:12Speaker 3: that's the.
- 11:13Speaker 1: key factor to the big two-part series, so, like, it'd
- 11:17Speaker 1: be hard to change up villains already, but.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Could you easily swap out that actor? Yes, you could. Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:23Speaker 3: We'll see how that goes.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Do we want to get into any other projects, or
- 11:31Speaker 1: are we just already knee-deep in Marvel and keep rolling?
- 11:35Speaker 3: Let's see, I will say, I'm watching the series Mrs.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Davis over on Peacock. That is a I love weird stuff,
- 11:46Speaker 3: especially when it gets ambitious and weird. I think that's
- 11:50Speaker 3: the one I've seen some ads for in the last
- 11:52Speaker 3: day or so and went, wait, what is this? It's great. Essentially,
- 11:57Speaker 3: you have kind of like if Facebook literally controlled the world.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It was trying for a while. I think now it's
- 12:05Speaker 1: just for grandparents. So it's worked itself out.
- 12:08Speaker 3: It's a program that, you know, eventually they develop it
- 12:10Speaker 3: in AI and the AI becomes self-aware. And then now basically,
- 12:14Speaker 3: you know, basically the program has dubbed itself, it calls
- 12:18Speaker 3: itself Mrs. Davis. So it's given itself identity and whatever else.
- 12:23Speaker 3: And so now basically, you know, because it's kind of
- 12:25Speaker 3: controlling the world, there's basically some conflicts going on here
- 12:29Speaker 3: that basically... They need to get Mrs. Davis shut down,
- 12:33Speaker 3: but Mrs. Davis is also aware of this fact that
- 12:36Speaker 3: she needs to be shut down. We need a Skynet territory. So,
- 12:40Speaker 3: but here's the caveat. She picks, you know, this character
- 12:45Speaker 3: who's basically a nun, and she has to go and find...
- 12:51Speaker 3: The Holy Grail. So she goes on basically a search
- 12:53Speaker 3: for a MacGuffin to help. Like literally the Holy Grail?
- 12:55Speaker 1: Literally the Holy Grail. Something we're treating as the Holy Grail.
- 12:59Speaker 3: So this AI essentially puts its own adversary on a
- 13:03Speaker 3: MacGuffin search to find a device that will shut down itself.
- 13:08Speaker 7: Hmm.
- 13:09Speaker 3: This is complicated.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 3: But it's weird. I just I love it. So we're
- 13:14Speaker 3: a few episodes in because basically they're released in like
- 13:17Speaker 3: one a week. Yeah. But yes we're a few episodes
- 13:19Speaker 3: in and yeah that.
- 13:22Speaker 1: If we're doing series, because I hadn't decided if I
- 13:29Speaker 1: was going into this because I just got started. I'm
- 13:31Speaker 1: only a few episodes in on this one. But yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: I just started in the last week or so watching Beef.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Okay. Have you heard about it at least? I've heard it.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I know. Steven Young won me over at first.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I didn't even know the other half of the main characters,
- 13:48Speaker 1: we'll say.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Conflict, definitely.
- 13:52Speaker 1: As Ali Wong I didn't know that until I started
- 13:54Speaker 1: watching it I was like okay this is I did
- 13:57Speaker 1: not know what to expect I just saw him on
- 14:00Speaker 1: the morning shows doing some sort of press for it
- 14:02Speaker 1: and I was like well it's cool that he's got
- 14:03Speaker 1: a new series and something I mean he's already kind
- 14:06Speaker 1: of crossed over into big.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Films you know last year so now he's trying another.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Series so I'm like alright this is cool I always
- 14:13Speaker 1: like him anyway but had no idea what exactly it was.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah I don't even know the series about it either I'll.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Keep it Light, but basically it is like the beef
- 14:24Speaker 1: itself is a fight type of beef.
- 14:28Speaker 3: And it's basically a very.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Minimal little situation arises between these two characters, and they
- 14:37Speaker 1: kind of get into a weird thing, and then it
- 14:40Speaker 1: continues to escalate. I'm only a few episodes in, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm already like, wow, this went from... I mean, there's
- 14:45Speaker 1: no reason for any of this to be happening, but
- 14:47Speaker 1: they're both such weird characters. And that's what I'm so
- 14:51Speaker 1: impressed with so far. And that's at least why I
- 14:53Speaker 1: wanted to go ahead and bring it up was if
- 14:55Speaker 1: you didn't know what it was, or we're, we're considering,
- 14:57Speaker 1: you know, do I want to, because it's, it's not
- 15:00Speaker 1: a weird like subsection or sub genre of anything specific.
- 15:06Speaker 1: It is, I guess just a full on drama more
- 15:08Speaker 1: or less, but the level of the, like it is
- 15:11Speaker 1: so well written and not just like dialogue wise, but
- 15:15Speaker 1: character wise.
- 15:16Speaker 3: And, and they're, Again, you don't know what to expect
- 15:19Speaker 3: from both of these if you've only seen them in, like,
- 15:22Speaker 3: you know.
- 15:23Speaker 1: We mostly saw him fighting zombies for the longest time.
- 15:26Speaker 1: And she does a lot of comedy, so, like, you
- 15:29Speaker 1: didn't know what to expect.
- 15:30Speaker 3: And, like, both of them are just A-game here. And
- 15:33Speaker 3: these characters are so messed up.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And, like, not in a traditional overacting sort of a way. It's, like,
- 15:40Speaker 1: they're both, like, opposite ends of he's, like, super broke
- 15:44Speaker 1: and working as, like, a handyman and, like, it's barely
- 15:47Speaker 1: surviving and some of the stuff he's doing is not
- 15:49Speaker 1: necessarily legal so like he's living on that end and
- 15:53Speaker 1: she is like married to somebody who came from money
- 15:56Speaker 1: she's working on like this multi-million dollar deal she's trying
- 15:59Speaker 1: to land so like she's the opposite end of the
- 16:02Speaker 1: financial spectrum but then at the same time is super
- 16:06Speaker 1: unhappy in so many aspects of her life that she
- 16:09Speaker 1: doesn't even like fully discuss even with like her husband
- 16:12Speaker 1: or like anybody else and And he's in just like
- 16:15Speaker 1: a normal state of like poverty problems. But then on
- 16:19Speaker 1: top of that, there's these underlying issues that he has from.
- 16:23Speaker 3: His past, from his parents, from, you know, just people
- 16:26Speaker 3: in general. And I'm so amazed with that.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I mean, there's a scene that he does that is
- 16:32Speaker 1: one of the best, like just performance acting period.
- 16:37Speaker 3: And it's all just like facially almost.
- 16:40Speaker 1: It's like you're watching him go through this scenario where
- 16:42Speaker 1: he's like, dealing with these people and he's kind of
- 16:45Speaker 1: blowing it off.
- 16:46Speaker 3: As like he doesn't care.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And then he starts to realize he needs to care
- 16:50Speaker 1: about this. And then he starts to get like emotional
- 16:53Speaker 1: about it. And it's like all in the span of
- 16:55Speaker 1: like a minute and a half, two minutes.
- 16:57Speaker 7: Wow.
- 16:57Speaker 1: He goes through this entire like spectrum of emotion that
- 17:00Speaker 1: is just phenomenal. Like I really was not prepared to
- 17:04Speaker 1: enjoy it as much. For something that's a weird drama,
- 17:07Speaker 1: it's also... a lot of fun along the way so
- 17:10Speaker 1: yeah it surprisingly works for the weird balance of things
- 17:14Speaker 1: that it is so yeah it's definitely worth checking out
- 17:17Speaker 1: i'm enjoying it so far i'm just a few episodes
- 17:19Speaker 1: in interesting tie into where we're going later there's a
- 17:24Speaker 1: lot of specifically end of each episode has a very
- 17:28Speaker 1: important needle drop that kicks in and you're just like Oh, well,
- 17:33Speaker 1: that's a really cool way to end this episode. So
- 17:35Speaker 1: they kind of go out on a very specific song
- 17:38Speaker 1: and it's, I'm trying to decide what the reasoning, it's sort.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Of a time period thing, but not exactly.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Like there's a big span, but they're all like, I
- 17:47Speaker 1: don't know if it's like a generational, what these characters
- 17:50Speaker 1: would have been.
- 17:51Speaker 3: At that point in their life when they keep pulling.
- 17:53Speaker 1: These songs from, cause they're like early two thousands, late
- 17:56Speaker 1: nineties in some sense. So I'm like, I'm trying to
- 17:59Speaker 1: decide what they're going with on this, theme of songs
- 18:02Speaker 1: that they're ending each episode with.
- 18:04Speaker 3: That's one thing I've noticed about a lot of modern
- 18:06Speaker 3: television is that they're getting much better than the films
- 18:09Speaker 3: are when it comes to basically picking the right song
- 18:12Speaker 3: to end an episode or to pinpoint a certain scene
- 18:15Speaker 3: or whatever else. Yeah, TV's doing great jobs with that.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Or just featuring a song. TV didn't used to do that. Right, yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 3: It wasn't even like you would see, you know, it
- 18:24Speaker 3: became a thing in films over the years with specific
- 18:26Speaker 3: directors especially, but... TV just didn't do that. Yeah, it
- 18:30Speaker 3: used to be just like the opening theme song to
- 18:33Speaker 3: the show was the song. And that was it.
- 18:35Speaker 1: That was the only music you got other than maybe
- 18:37Speaker 1: some like orchestra stuff that they worked in. If it
- 18:39Speaker 1: was a dramatic, you know, cop drama or something.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Interstitial kind of stuff. Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 1: But then the first one I remember, and it's funny
- 18:46Speaker 1: that now like they all kind of ripped that off.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And I guess it makes sense that it's a theatrical director.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Homicide started doing that.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And again, kind of maybe late 90s. early 2000s when
- 18:58Speaker 1: that got on its run there and it's Barry Levinson
- 19:01Speaker 1: so it's like it was very cinematic in the way
- 19:03Speaker 1: it shot it and then it found a way to
- 19:05Speaker 1: work in music by the the more it went on
- 19:08Speaker 1: the more I think they got into that as.
- 19:09Speaker 3: A series Miami Vice did it earlier yeah that's true
- 19:13Speaker 3: because basically they made the Phil Collins song in the
- 19:15Speaker 3: air not a hit yeah Because, you know, like you
- 19:17Speaker 3: got that scene, that one episode where, you know, basically,
- 19:20Speaker 3: you know, Crockett and Tubbs got a big showdown. They're
- 19:23Speaker 3: in the Lamborghini. Like, they're loading the guns on the
- 19:26Speaker 3: way to the big shootout, whatever else. And that song's playing.
- 19:29Speaker 3: It's like the whole atmosphere's going down.
- 19:31Speaker 6: It's like.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Well, again, Michael Mann, who would become a very theatrical director.
- 19:36Speaker 3: He had already done Manhunter before that. Yeah, exactly. He
- 19:40Speaker 3: started in that area. So, yeah, again, you get talented people.
- 19:44Speaker 3: but see there we go so theatrics plus television equals.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Good but yeah i mean now that's not unusual at
- 19:52Speaker 1: all like that's you know.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah it is a new golden age of television if.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You want to call it television anymore i mean it's
- 19:58Speaker 1: all streaming services none of it's even broadcast tv for
- 20:02Speaker 1: the most part anymore it's not networks anymore it's all
- 20:05Speaker 1: whatever streaming picked this up but um But yeah, it's
- 20:10Speaker 1: interesting when it was that early on, when it was
- 20:11Speaker 1: like 80s and 90s when nobody was doing that. So
- 20:14Speaker 1: you see that planting that seed, and now every show
- 20:17Speaker 1: in the world does it.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Briefly back to Steven Yeun real quick. I'm not sure
- 20:22Speaker 3: if you've heard this, but he has joined the MCU.
- 20:26Speaker 3: He will be appearing as an undisclosed character at this
- 20:29Speaker 3: point in the Thunderbolts film. Interesting. So there's a lot
- 20:33Speaker 3: of speculation as to who he's going to play, but
- 20:37Speaker 3: they said he's basically... His character apparently is very important,
- 20:41Speaker 3: but also Steven himself said, like, I don't know how
- 20:43Speaker 3: long we'll be playing this character, so he may be
- 20:45Speaker 3: a one-and-done performance. Interesting. So I'm very curious to see
- 20:49Speaker 3: what that's going to be.
- 20:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It is good to see, again, especially now seeing how
- 20:53Speaker 1: talented he is, because I really didn't know him before
- 20:56Speaker 1: Walking Dead. So it's like, I think it's one of
- 20:57Speaker 1: those he was just sort of thrown in there and
- 20:59Speaker 1: then got into accidentally.
- 21:01Speaker 3: The biggest show in the world. Yeah, the world fell apart.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Because who would have seen that that would have become
- 21:05Speaker 1: the show that it did? I mean, people didn't care
- 21:08Speaker 1: about that kind of stuff. And then for some reason,
- 21:10Speaker 1: they did all of a sudden.
- 21:12Speaker 3: And it's great, too, that he was cast as the
- 21:14Speaker 3: role of Glenn because Glenn, if you've read the book,
- 21:17Speaker 3: is almost everybody's favorite character because he's such a likable guy.
- 21:21Speaker 3: He doesn't do anything to piss off the audience. The
- 21:27Speaker 3: way he dies in the show versus how he dies
- 21:32Speaker 3: in the book is a little different, but it's still
- 21:34Speaker 3: tragic nonetheless. It was something I don't think people were
- 21:37Speaker 3: prepared for. No. That is the turning point in the show.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I mean, I've said for a while, there's a point where,
- 21:44Speaker 1: you know, you bring in the bad for them, and
- 21:48Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, it's great, but that's also, it became
- 21:50Speaker 1: Jump the Shark at that point. I'm like, that's the
- 21:52Speaker 1: best impressive buildup and reveal of a character, and that
- 21:57Speaker 1: final episode there with him is amazing. And then after that,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't know that I need to watch this.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It drops off because it's not fun after he shows up.
- 22:08Speaker 1: It quit being entertaining and it's just depressing. A lot
- 22:13Speaker 1: of that's probably because, spoilers, one of our favorite characters
- 22:17Speaker 1: is gone at that point.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I'm just like, well, now we don't have him to
- 22:20Speaker 3: make us feel a little better. He lightened the mood sometimes.
- 22:24Speaker 3: And then we've got all this other grim nonsense going on.
- 22:27Speaker 3: I'm just like, oh, this is not fun. Well, and
- 22:29Speaker 3: the thing is, too, is that so much of reality
- 22:32Speaker 3: kind of kicked in as they're doing the show. So
- 22:36Speaker 3: actors are leaving the show before their characters are killed off.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Or even in the case of Carl, Chandler Riggs, his
- 22:45Speaker 3: character makes it to the literal end of the book. He,
- 22:49Speaker 3: you know, basically everything kind of goes on his focus.
- 22:53Speaker 3: You know, Rick doesn't die until, you know, spoiler alert,
- 22:56Speaker 3: doesn't die until the final, basically the second to last issue.
- 22:59Speaker 3: of the series. And then basically the final issue is
- 23:02Speaker 3: like a huge jump ahead to see like how far
- 23:05Speaker 3: things have gone since Rick's passing. And it does end
- 23:08Speaker 3: in the Commonwealth as the show did. So, but that's saying,
- 23:12Speaker 3: you know, Chandler Riggs left the show. And so it's like, oh, great.
- 23:15Speaker 3: So like the character who's the last one, the one
- 23:18Speaker 3: we're following in this story is no longer around. Yeah.
- 23:21Speaker 3: So they have to kind of really transfer everything to Judith,
- 23:23Speaker 3: who is also weird because Judith's character doesn't make it
- 23:26Speaker 3: out of the prison.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:27Speaker 3: So, you know, and then, you know, other people start
- 23:31Speaker 3: leaving the show where I was like, oh, my God.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Well, and I don't know why, other than when they,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I mean, they killed off a bunch of them. But
- 23:37Speaker 1: as far as career-wise, which is usually the more behind-the-scenes reasons,
- 23:41Speaker 1: nobody's really done anything. They've attempted a few things along
- 23:44Speaker 1: the way. But, I mean, Steven's probably the biggest success story.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Oh, Michonne, yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, but even then, she's like a side character on
- 23:54Speaker 1: a super successful series, but she's still not the first
- 23:58Speaker 1: one anybody thinks of when they think of even that property,
- 24:01Speaker 1: let alone the whole Marvel world.
- 24:03Speaker 3: It all depends on who you talk to. I like her.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I mean, she's amazing in that role, but still, it's
- 24:08Speaker 1: not like they gave her her own film series or something.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Well, they haven't done that yet, but nonetheless, it all
- 24:14Speaker 3: depends on who you talk to, because Michonne's a very
- 24:16Speaker 3: loved character, especially when you're talking to different ladies and whatnot. Oh, yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, she's been in both Black Panther films,
- 24:23Speaker 3: and she was in two of the biggest films in
- 24:25Speaker 3: the world, you know, Infinity War and Endgame. And she
- 24:28Speaker 3: didn't get dusted, so she got to do stuff in
- 24:31Speaker 3: both those films, you know, and be a very important character. So, yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 3: I'd say, you know, she and Steven are definitely the
- 24:39Speaker 3: two breakouts. Andrew Lincoln was kind of known before Walking
- 24:45Speaker 3: Dead because of Love Actually.
- 24:47Speaker 1: For the most uncomfortable scene in any rom-com ever.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah, the world's most lovable stalker, basically. And homewrecker. Yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 3: he's such a.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Well, again, just that one decision makes him the most
- 24:59Speaker 1: unlikable character all of a sudden. And you're just like, well,
- 25:02Speaker 1: if we don't care about this character, why do we
- 25:04Speaker 1: care about any of these characters?
- 25:05Speaker 3: Like, it ruined that movie for me. Yeah, he is
- 25:08Speaker 3: the world's worst best friend. Most definitely. He's like, I'm
- 25:10Speaker 3: going to hook you up with your wife-to-be and then
- 25:13Speaker 3: I'm going to steal her out from under you. Or not.
- 25:18Speaker 3: I mean, that's the thing. It's like he doesn't even
- 25:20Speaker 3: accomplish anything. But I'm like, if you're not.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Going to do anything with it, then just shut up
- 25:24Speaker 1: about it and go on about your life and go
- 25:26Speaker 1: find somebody else.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I don't know. I think the damage has been done
- 25:29Speaker 3: because in the movie, you know, he tells her the truth.
- 25:34Speaker 3: He gets a kiss and the seed has been planted.
- 25:38Speaker 3: So if anything ever goes astray with her husband, she
- 25:42Speaker 3: knows she's got it. She knows where she's going, yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 3: You know, in case of emergency, break the last four dick.
- 25:46Speaker 1: What a ridiculous relationship to be in for either of them, really. Well,
- 25:51Speaker 1: I can't get with anybody because, you know, I'm on
- 25:54Speaker 1: hold for another relationship to fall apart.
- 25:57Speaker 3: So, sorry, can't go on any dates.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I'm busy waiting for this relationship with my best friend
- 26:03Speaker 1: to completely dissolve so I can steal his girlfriend.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yes what a mess so yeah I wonder how much damage.
- 26:10Speaker 1: That did to his career outside of Walking Dead like
- 26:14Speaker 1: everybody loved him as Rick and I did too but
- 26:16Speaker 1: like as time went on I'm like can I see
- 26:18Speaker 1: him doing anything else because the.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Only other thing I've seen him do he's.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Not likable in so we haven't really seen anything else
- 26:25Speaker 1: since then.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah and the screwed up thing too is that okay
- 26:29Speaker 3: so he leaves Walking Dead because he's going to do
- 26:31Speaker 3: Walking Dead movies and going to have opportunities to do
- 26:35Speaker 3: other things get off a series Great. Where are those, A,
- 26:39Speaker 3: Walking Dead movies, and B, where are the other opportunities
- 26:43Speaker 3: you left Walking Dead for? Because, frankly, you were gone
- 26:46Speaker 3: from the show for, what, two years before you showed
- 26:48Speaker 3: up for the finale, and we haven't seen shit from
- 26:51Speaker 3: you since. Well, that's true for most of the other ones.
- 26:55Speaker 3: I'm like, where? I don't know.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I got so over it anyway, and I feel like
- 27:01Speaker 1: everybody did, because while it was.
- 27:02Speaker 3: The biggest thing in the world, it was amazing... But it's.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Also interesting what a drop-off it was.
- 27:07Speaker 3: And now when you talk to people, you're like, oh, that.
- 27:09Speaker 3: I'm over that.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Like, everybody turned that corner. And there was only a
- 27:13Speaker 1: handful of weird people that were still hanging on on
- 27:15Speaker 1: that last couple of seasons. And I'm just like, it's
- 27:18Speaker 1: strange how quickly everybody just... Not even turned on it
- 27:22Speaker 1: as much as just didn't care anymore. They just moved
- 27:24Speaker 1: on immediately and found some new streaming show to watch.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it was a lot of fatigue, I think.
- 27:31Speaker 3: The Negan and the Saviors season took a lot out
- 27:34Speaker 3: of people. And then adding more shows. Like, because, do
- 27:38Speaker 3: we need fear? I don't know. No. Some people that
- 27:41Speaker 3: watched it, nobody really raved about it. Some of them.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Were like, oh, there's some good characters, or there's this storyline,
- 27:47Speaker 1: but do we need a whole other series in the
- 27:50Speaker 1: same universe?
- 27:51Speaker 3: And then they started another one, and they're doing how
- 27:54Speaker 3: many more? And I'm like, does anybody care anymore?
- 27:56Speaker 8: No.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Just calm down. Well, see, let's think, even some of
- 27:58Speaker 3: the new spinoff series that are coming are already changing. Like,
- 28:00Speaker 3: we still have the Rick and Michonne series that's supposed
- 28:03Speaker 3: to come. We're supposed to have the Daryl offshoot. The
- 28:07Speaker 3: Daryl offshoot, which was going to be Daryl and Carol,
- 28:09Speaker 3: and now it's just Daryl. And then we were going
- 28:13Speaker 3: to have the Negan and Maggie series, but I think
- 28:17Speaker 3: That's on hold or changing already, too. So, I.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I don't.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Know. I'm going to leave it alone. We can move on.
- 28:26Speaker 3: I would say, like, let's do some mini-movies. Like, you know,
- 28:30Speaker 3: each little group gets one mini-movie each. And then it's like,
- 28:33Speaker 3: let's just... Yeah. Let's just table this thing and go
- 28:36Speaker 3: for something else. At this point, there's no rule anymore.
- 28:39Speaker 1: So, it was different when you had to go by
- 28:40Speaker 1: either theatrical or you had a TV series.
- 28:43Speaker 3: But, like, now.
- 28:45Speaker 1: If you want to make a deal with Netflix, want
- 28:47Speaker 1: to do a one-off 30-minute.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Thing, you can do that. Nobody makes the rules now.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Everything is do whatever the hell you want. As long
- 28:54Speaker 3: as you make us money, we don't care anymore. Or
- 28:56Speaker 3: a show gets popular like Yellowstone and suddenly like, hey,
- 28:59Speaker 3: we're going to do a prequel about the beginnings of
- 29:02Speaker 3: Yellowstone and we're going to get Harrison Ford to be
- 29:04Speaker 3: in the show. It's the biggest thing in the world.
- 29:06Speaker 3: All of a sudden, everybody's watching it. That's all it
- 29:09Speaker 3: takes is just finding that weird.
- 29:11Speaker 1: alchemy that makes no sense but suddenly it's.
- 29:14Speaker 3: The biggest streaming show in the world. Speaking of streaming stuff,
- 29:20Speaker 3: there's one movie in particular that's been getting a lot
- 29:22Speaker 3: of buzz and I checked it out very recently. It's
- 29:25Speaker 3: on Netflix. Technically it's a horror film but it's called
- 29:29Speaker 3: Soft and Quiet. Have you heard about this?
- 29:32Speaker 1: Not really.
- 29:34Speaker 3: It's a movie that got a lot of buzz in
- 29:36Speaker 3: the film festival circuits I think last year. and hadn't
- 29:42Speaker 3: had a wide distribution just yet. It is a very
- 29:45Speaker 3: small kind of film, but it's also very clever because
- 29:47Speaker 3: it's one of those one-take films. So basically, apparently the
- 29:52Speaker 3: production of the entire cast performed the script in its
- 29:56Speaker 3: entirety four or five times and A few of those.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Sometimes that works really well. Yeah, and basically it was
- 30:02Speaker 3: like take four was essentially the take that was used
- 30:04Speaker 3: for the movie primarily. I don't want to give too
- 30:08Speaker 3: much away, but essentially it is about a group of women,
- 30:11Speaker 3: kind of housewives, normal looking ladies, whatever else, are all
- 30:15Speaker 3: gathering for some sort of like weekend retreat with their
- 30:18Speaker 3: normal group, planning things, whatever else. what the group actually
- 30:24Speaker 3: is is a bit of a surprise, the way things
- 30:26Speaker 3: are handled, and it's not what you think. This is
- 30:29Speaker 3: not a supernatural sort of thing. This is a very
- 30:31Speaker 3: real-world sort of problem here. This is this old lady
- 30:34Speaker 3: book club movie I keep seeing in commercials. No, this
- 30:37Speaker 3: ain't the old lady book club movie. I don't know.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Which is getting a sequel. Oh, I know.
- 30:41Speaker 1: That's the one they're running ads constantly now. I didn't
- 30:44Speaker 1: really pay attention to the first one. I forgot that
- 30:47Speaker 1: it was a thing, and now there's a sequel to it.
- 30:49Speaker 1: So again, you find your audience.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Obviously old ladies go to the movie you said well
- 30:53Speaker 3: i got a little confused about because gene fonda is
- 30:55Speaker 3: in that one too and i'm like football and it's
- 30:57Speaker 3: like the same that's what i thought for a second
- 31:00Speaker 3: it's like it was a sequel to 80 for brady
- 31:02Speaker 3: and i just got books and stuff i don't know
- 31:04Speaker 3: back to soft and quiet so um this is a
- 31:08Speaker 3: very disturbing movie uh it hangs with you after like
- 31:13Speaker 3: it's one of those like very similar kind of like
- 31:15Speaker 3: hereditary where like it's a movie that leaves a.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Mark you don't see it coming and then afterwards you're
- 31:21Speaker 1: like oh like you still think about it later and
- 31:24Speaker 1: you're like.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah but that really that's about the most i
- 31:28Speaker 3: want to say because going to the going into this
- 31:30Speaker 3: movie cold uh is imperative for a really good viewing
- 31:34Speaker 3: experience yeah i.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Kind of like those that i didn't know anything about
- 31:37Speaker 1: beforehand and It changes your outlook after you've seen it.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that. But, yeah, like I said, this
- 31:44Speaker 3: is not like a slasher movie. This is not a
- 31:47Speaker 3: supernatural thing. This is a real-world kind of horror movie. But, damn,
- 31:51Speaker 3: it's good. Yeah, it will mess with you, for sure.
- 31:54Speaker 6: All right.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Another one for the list. Soft and Quiet, currently streaming
- 31:58Speaker 3: on Netflix. All right. Are we ready to get into it? Well,
- 32:04Speaker 3: I've got to get my suit on because we're going
- 32:05Speaker 3: to space. We'll get to those suits. Get more out
- 32:10Speaker 3: of life.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Go out to.
- 32:17Speaker 4: A movie.
- 32:20Speaker 5: I'm going.
- 32:24Speaker 3: To tell you something. I'm Star-Lord. I formed the Guardians.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Met a girl. Fell in love. That girl died, but
- 32:38Speaker 3: then she came back. Came back a total dick. Oh, please.
- 32:45Speaker 5: He left out some important information, but that is the
- 32:49Speaker 5: gist of it.
- 32:50Speaker 4: My sacred mission is to create a perfect society.
- 33:07Speaker 3: He didn't want to make things perfect. He just hated
- 33:12Speaker 3: things the way they are. I want you all to
- 33:27Speaker 3: know that I'm grateful to fight this side, my friends.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Incinerate them. We were always searching for a family until
- 33:47Speaker 3: we found each other. Are you ready for one last ride?
- 34:03Speaker 3: We'll all fly away together into the forever and beautiful sky.
- 34:31Speaker 9: When you were here before Couldn't look you in the
- 34:41Speaker 9: eye You're just like an angel Your skin makes me cry.
- 34:50Speaker 4: You float like a feather.
- 35:00Speaker 3: In a beautiful.
- 35:04Speaker 9: World And wish I was special You're so very special And.
- 35:14Speaker 4: I'm a creep I'm a widow What.
- 35:17Speaker 1: The hell am I.
- 35:35Speaker 9: I don't belong here.
- 35:39Speaker 1: This episode's out-of-the-town feature is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
- 35:45Speaker 3: The year is 2023. The director, thankfully, James Gunn. And
- 35:50Speaker 3: the plot, according to IMDb.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies
- 35:56Speaker 1: his team to defend.
- 35:57Speaker 3: The universe and one of their own. A mission that
- 35:59Speaker 3: could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful. Eh,
- 36:04Speaker 3: I guess. That's not a great description.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's specific in a couple of things and misses
- 36:10Speaker 1: a lot of others. But either way, spoiler alert, we're
- 36:13Speaker 1: going to run the hell out of this.
- 36:15Speaker 3: So, I'm assuming you went and saw it in the theater.
- 36:18Speaker 3: If not, go watch it. That's kind of important. Or
- 36:22Speaker 3: you're going to pirate it or something. I don't recommend
- 36:25Speaker 3: doing that. I mean, I did.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Just when getting stuff together for this, I saw somebody
- 36:29Speaker 1: had clips from it pieced together on a YouTube and
- 36:33Speaker 1: like It was straight up in a theater. Like, it
- 36:35Speaker 1: was their cell phone on the theater. But it was like,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I guess they were going to get busted if they
- 36:40Speaker 1: had their hand up doing the whole movie. So it's
- 36:42Speaker 1: just little moments here and there. I was like, no,
- 36:44Speaker 1: that's legitimately from the movie I just watched. But, yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 1: this is just open air video at the screen. I
- 36:51Speaker 1: was like, this is weird. I didn't know people still
- 36:53Speaker 1: did this. So, yeah, there's some weird pirated version out
- 36:57Speaker 1: there somewhere.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I don't endorse that at all.
- 37:00Speaker 1: No.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Yeah. Though I do on occasion miss seeing dudes in
- 37:04Speaker 3: the theaters with a video camera.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Watching a movie at home and see somebody's head bob
- 37:09Speaker 1: by as they go to get popcorn. Alright, so as usual,
- 37:17Speaker 1: every new Marvel movie gets a new opening. So now
- 37:20Speaker 1: we get the exclusive Guardians Marvel letters spinning by and
- 37:25Speaker 1: very key moments.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Of, look at this, look at this, this might come
- 37:28Speaker 3: into play later. So, That's how we start off. We
- 37:32Speaker 3: get our little special Guardians Marvel logo. Yeah, and of
- 37:36Speaker 3: course this is definitely the last ride for this particular team.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Bradley Cooper is wanting to move on and basically just
- 37:45Speaker 3: direct films and stuff like that. He wants to do
- 37:47Speaker 3: his own thing. Dave Bautista said he's kind of done.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Zoe Saldana said she's done. Chris Pratt says he's done,
- 37:56Speaker 3: but also would be open to returning. We'll get to
- 37:59Speaker 3: that later. We'll get to that at the end of
- 38:01Speaker 3: this scenario. Yeah, so there's a lot of, you know,
- 38:05Speaker 3: potential doorways still open, but some are closed or whatever else.
- 38:09Speaker 3: I think they did a good job of wrapping up
- 38:11Speaker 3: everybody's storylines as well. We didn't leave too many holes
- 38:14Speaker 3: or anything like that. Not to jump too far ahead,
- 38:16Speaker 3: but we really didn't close any door.
- 38:18Speaker 7: Like, we.
- 38:19Speaker 1: We rearrange things a good amount, but then at the end,
- 38:23Speaker 1: it's like, well.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Anything they want to bring back, they can bring back.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Pretty much, yeah. They can do whatever.
- 38:28Speaker 1: They want from this point, but they gave it a
- 38:30Speaker 1: nice cap off, and everybody can do their own thing,
- 38:34Speaker 1: or if we want.
- 38:35Speaker 3: To make use of you, we can make use of you.
- 38:36Speaker 3: They found a good way to do it. In the
- 38:40Speaker 3: comic book world, this is kind of closing the door,
- 38:43Speaker 3: because basically you've got certain members who left, certain members
- 38:47Speaker 3: who kind of retired. you know sort of thing like
- 38:50Speaker 3: that and then one in particular went home yeah uh
- 38:54Speaker 3: so yeah the group is broken up and now we've
- 38:57Speaker 3: got a new team uh you know because we get
- 38:59Speaker 3: a couple little cut scenes we see it we'll talk
- 39:01Speaker 3: about that again uh but yeah so we we get
- 39:04Speaker 3: this is definitely a door closing but a new one's
- 39:07Speaker 3: kind of opening so that's kind of literally how comics
- 39:10Speaker 3: work it's like yeah it's like Okay, you know, it's like,
- 39:12Speaker 3: spoiler alert, we did not kill anybody off. Surprisingly. I
- 39:16Speaker 3: assumed we were.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Going to take out at least one, if not a
- 39:19Speaker 1: couple of people, just because they were so, this is.
- 39:22Speaker 3: The final episode. I kind of did too, but at
- 39:25Speaker 3: the same time, I'm like, there's also room for at
- 39:28Speaker 3: least more than half the teams. still be kept. Yeah,
- 39:31Speaker 3: and I didn't want it. In fact, I was kind
- 39:33Speaker 3: of worried at moments that we can get to later.
- 39:35Speaker 3: But as far as the retiring thing, I just want
- 39:39Speaker 3: to point out, not even comic book wise, in the MCU...
- 39:43Speaker 3: Hawkeye's retired 15 times. So, you know, if they want to,
- 39:47Speaker 3: they can bring anybody back. Sure. It's good to have
- 39:50Speaker 3: that door just cracked a little bit. But this movie
- 39:54Speaker 3: is interesting because we basically get a Rocket Raccoon origin
- 39:59Speaker 3: story in its entirety. And that's kind of what kicks
- 40:02Speaker 3: things off. Yeah. And I've seen these PSAs already online.
- 40:06Speaker 3: But yeah, if you are an animal lover or parent...
- 40:10Speaker 3: this movie hits hard on multiple... Or animal rights person.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 3: It is a lot of... Like, rougher than I expected, really.
- 40:19Speaker 3: And I, again, I guess just because I like animals
- 40:21Speaker 3: so much more than people.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Then I was just like, yeah, this stuff is hitting
- 40:26Speaker 1: more than I expected, really.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Well, it's hitting because we have sympathy towards the animals,
- 40:31Speaker 3: and then, of course, the actors who are playing the
- 40:34Speaker 3: voices for these, you know, basically humanoid animal characters... do
- 40:40Speaker 3: a really good job, so we didn't attach them really quickly. Well,
- 40:44Speaker 3: that's the thing.
- 40:44Speaker 1: It's like you already have sympathy for animals because they're animals,
- 40:47Speaker 1: but then on top of that, we've given them all personalities.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Like, we're making them characters, not just animals now. So
- 40:55Speaker 3: it's like double layered of like, oh, God, stop. Just stop. Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 3: So it has some scary moments. Usually it's okay if
- 41:04Speaker 3: you're not a mutant animal. If you're a regular animal,
- 41:08Speaker 3: you're okay, but... If you're a mutant animal, it doesn't
- 41:10Speaker 3: go so well for you. Well, I don't know. See,
- 41:12Speaker 3: if you're a regular animal, you're going to become a
- 41:14Speaker 3: mutant animal later on. I mean, that's the thing.
- 41:16Speaker 5: Probably.
- 41:17Speaker 3: If you're locked up in the High Evolutionary's ship, your
- 41:21Speaker 3: life is going to suck. Those people, but not to
- 41:24Speaker 3: jump ahead. But again, the ones scampering at the end,
- 41:27Speaker 3: they're okay. Everybody else that got tested on, not so good.
- 41:31Speaker 3: And before we go too much into opening things up,
- 41:36Speaker 3: Chuck Woody, a Ouiju, I think that's how you pronounce
- 41:38Speaker 3: his name, a Hulk, but anyway, absolutely loved this guy
- 41:42Speaker 3: as a high evolutionary.
- 41:43Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Probably, I mean, even going so far as saying how
- 41:46Speaker 3: good of a performance Jonathan Majors gave, I would say
- 41:49Speaker 3: this guy probably is going to go down as probably
- 41:52Speaker 3: a Thanos-level villain of like, I fucking hate this guy.
- 41:56Speaker 1: See, that was my thing. I was on the fence
- 41:59Speaker 1: because I'm like, on the one hand, you hate this character.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:03Speaker 1: But he's also like, doing a performance that isn't crazy
- 42:07Speaker 1: over the top movie villain like just an asshole like
- 42:10Speaker 1: you just hate him and then by the end you're
- 42:13Speaker 1: like oh well.
- 42:14Speaker 3: He's done not just horrible.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Things to this one character like horrible things to mass
- 42:20Speaker 1: amounts of characters over and over and over again and
- 42:23Speaker 1: like so yeah he's killed a ton of people in
- 42:25Speaker 1: the you know grand universe version of it but at
- 42:28Speaker 1: the same time he doesn't ring to me as like
- 42:30Speaker 1: a grand thanos type you know villain i won't think
- 42:34Speaker 1: of him as like a big villain if i go
- 42:35Speaker 1: back and pick.
- 42:36Speaker 8: Oh cool marvel villains like i feel like he'll be
- 42:39Speaker 8: forgotten for me but i i think it's almost like
- 42:44Speaker 8: he's doing such a good performance it doesn't come off
- 42:46Speaker 8: as for someone who.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Has their face strapped on it doesn't come off as
- 42:51Speaker 1: cartoony and silly as you would expect like he really
- 42:53Speaker 1: is just kind of a bastard and like you hate
- 42:56Speaker 1: him But again, it doesn't.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Come off as a crazy, over-the-top comic book kind of villain.
- 43:01Speaker 3: He's just a hassle. Yeah, I mean, that's the thing.
- 43:04Speaker 3: The high evolutionary of the comic, that's the thing. They
- 43:06Speaker 3: didn't have to change too much about this guy. That's
- 43:09Speaker 3: really all he's about. He basically, you know, he can
- 43:12Speaker 3: make things better. Whatever, you know, the deal is, I
- 43:15Speaker 3: can improve it. I can change it, whatever else. So that's,
- 43:20Speaker 3: you know, creating a counter-earth. Whatever else, that's always what
- 43:24Speaker 3: he's been about. Yeah. I like the element of basically
- 43:27Speaker 3: seeing his face because in the comics, he's always wearing
- 43:30Speaker 3: this helmet that kind of has like his face imprinted
- 43:33Speaker 3: in the helmet. But basically, you're always just seeing a mask.
- 43:37Speaker 3: You're never seeing the person's face. A mixture of Cobra
- 43:40Speaker 3: Commander and Destro. Yeah. But it's kind of the same thing, though,
- 43:43Speaker 3: you know. we see in the film, like, he is
- 43:46Speaker 3: always wearing a mask, and, you know, there's a point where...
- 43:49Speaker 3: There's a reason, and I like that being the reason.
- 43:52Speaker 3: I was like, well, good, because I wanted that. Mm-hmm. But, yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 3: even though this is kind of a one-and-done villain, yeah,
- 44:00Speaker 3: he is... It's such a good performance that I think
- 44:04Speaker 3: this will stand a test of time amongst some of
- 44:06Speaker 3: the other villains. We're going to remember this performance.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Well, and then also, whether or not they find a
- 44:12Speaker 1: way to bring him back, physically like i think the
- 44:15Speaker 1: effects of all the things that he's done can now
- 44:18Speaker 1: be traced down the line because we're already seeing like
- 44:20Speaker 1: oh well that's why this was here last movie because
- 44:23Speaker 1: he was pulling the strings and already doing these things
- 44:27Speaker 1: and like i feel like they can also use that
- 44:28Speaker 1: moving forward and be like oh well what you don't
- 44:31Speaker 1: know is this is one of those people he created
- 44:33Speaker 1: and this is a thing and here's another person and
- 44:35Speaker 1: so you can tie that into so many things and
- 44:38Speaker 1: even though he might not be around anymore his after-lasting
- 44:42Speaker 1: effects will still be something they.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Can pull from if they want to. Absolutely, yeah, because
- 44:46Speaker 3: we do find out that he's responsible for multiple races.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Of course, we know the Sovereign from the last Guardians film,
- 44:53Speaker 3: the Gold People, and then the Tees. Basically, Aisha is
- 44:56Speaker 3: going to create, you know, the perfect specimen, and she
- 44:59Speaker 3: will name him Adam. And we say, okay, we know
- 45:02Speaker 3: Adam Warlock's Tees, and then we have to wait... really
- 45:05Speaker 3: long time. Like six years. To finally get Will Poulter
- 45:08Speaker 3: in the role. And then you realize, Adam's a dumbass.
- 45:12Speaker 3: But see, that's the thing. That's really the thing I
- 45:15Speaker 3: like because Adam Warlock is a character that had a
- 45:19Speaker 3: huge evolution over his tenure in the Marvel Universe. So
- 45:23Speaker 3: I did not want him to come out the... God
- 45:27Speaker 3: that he is. Basically, the cosmically aware, you know, very
- 45:34Speaker 3: much almost like a deity sort of thing. The superpowers
- 45:37Speaker 3: have always kind of been there, but basically the maturity
- 45:40Speaker 3: and the cosmic awareness and basically the, you know, I'm
- 45:44Speaker 3: here to make a real difference in things sort of stuff,
- 45:48Speaker 3: that all comes later. So now he's just a babe
- 45:50Speaker 3: in the woods learning how to operate in the world
- 45:52Speaker 3: and But he also is extremely super powerful.
- 45:55Speaker 1: It's funny, watching it, I was going, I wonder what
- 45:58Speaker 1: you're going to think about this. Because normally I don't
- 46:01Speaker 1: factor that in, but knowing what little I know about him,
- 46:04Speaker 1: how big a deal he's supposed to be comic-wise, normally I.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Don't factor the comic stuff in. I try to just
- 46:10Speaker 3: watch the MCU as the MCU.
- 46:12Speaker 1: But that one, I'm like, I know what a big
- 46:14Speaker 1: character he could have been in a different version of
- 46:17Speaker 1: this story. And then seeing what a silly idiot he
- 46:21Speaker 1: is in this movie. I'm just like, I wasn't sure
- 46:24Speaker 1: how comic fans were.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Going to take this.
- 46:25Speaker 1: But, I mean, it does, looking at it in the
- 46:28Speaker 1: big picture, it does make sense that, especially if they
- 46:30Speaker 1: took him out.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Early, if he didn't finish cooking, then.
- 46:34Speaker 1: He would be a little off and wouldn't know what
- 46:35Speaker 1: the hell was going on.
- 46:36Speaker 3: But he's still.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Almost dangerously powerful for somebody who doesn't know what the
- 46:40Speaker 1: hell they're doing.
- 46:41Speaker 3: So, it does make sense.
- 46:43Speaker 1: But it is, within the context of just this movie,
- 46:46Speaker 1: he also, until we get to the very end, doesn't
- 46:49Speaker 1: accomplish anything at best he just screws stuff.
- 46:52Speaker 3: Up for him over and over again and it's frustrating
- 46:55Speaker 3: so before.
- 46:56Speaker 1: You get to the big finale you're just like why
- 46:59Speaker 1: is he even in this yeah he's pretty he's very
- 47:02Speaker 1: childlike yeah.
- 47:03Speaker 3: He's frustrating through most of the movie.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Yeah by the end you're like okay well i guess
- 47:07Speaker 1: i'm glad we went along for that ride if we're
- 47:10Speaker 1: going somewhere with this so by the end i'm like
- 47:12Speaker 1: all right well at least he's sort of.
- 47:14Speaker 3: Proven he wants to be something useful So now it
- 47:17Speaker 3: gives him a chance to. But yeah, throughout this movie,
- 47:20Speaker 3: he's just annoying more than anything. And the thing is,
- 47:23Speaker 3: we kind of see the journey that Adam goes through
- 47:26Speaker 3: in this. Basically, he's a complete babe in the woods.
- 47:28Speaker 3: He's a golden god. He's worshipped by his mother. And
- 47:32Speaker 3: he knows, okay, this high evolutionary guy is the big boss.
- 47:34Speaker 3: So don't screw with him. Don't make him mad. That's
- 47:37Speaker 3: the only one I listen to, basically. Mom and this guy. Yeah.
- 47:41Speaker 3: But then, essentially, he has to go through... experience and
- 47:47Speaker 3: to personally experience moments of pain and sadness to begin
- 47:51Speaker 3: his growth. And that's kind of the message this whole
- 47:55Speaker 3: movie is giving us. Rocket goes through extreme amounts of
- 47:59Speaker 3: pain and sadness in his origin and throughout his entire
- 48:03Speaker 3: life to get to the point where he is now.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Peter goes through a lot of sadness, because basically his
- 48:09Speaker 3: girlfriend dies, then she gets resurrected, but it's not his
- 48:12Speaker 3: girlfriend anymore. He's forced to look.
- 48:15Speaker 1: At someone who looks like her, but it's not her,
- 48:17Speaker 1: and she doesn't know him, so it's almost more tormenting him.
- 48:21Speaker 3: It really is. This girl who's kind of.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Almost like my girlfriend, but she doesn't even like me,
- 48:25Speaker 1: and we don't have any history now.
- 48:28Speaker 3: It is almost torture more than... Anything, really. Yeah, so
- 48:32Speaker 3: there's a lot of pain that goes through this movie
- 48:34Speaker 3: that causes growth. Can I bring up my maybe favorite one?
- 48:37Speaker 3: I mean, obviously my go-to is Rocket, but Nebula's so much... Mm-hmm. Like,
- 48:43Speaker 3: brings so much to this in general. Like, she's taking
- 48:46Speaker 3: a weird turn.
- 48:47Speaker 1: But at the same time is almost like one of
- 48:50Speaker 1: the most impressive characters we have in this, in.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Which she's barely human anymore. She's had so many replacements. But, like,
- 48:56Speaker 3: she's still got such a journey of.
- 48:58Speaker 1: That she's gone on, not just through these Guardians movies,
- 49:01Speaker 1: but even just in these last several years of watching
- 49:05Speaker 1: and talk about pain. And, like, someone who was just
- 49:08Speaker 1: tortured for the sake of it because he could, you know.
- 49:11Speaker 1: So that is who she is, essentially. And then on
- 49:15Speaker 1: top of that, her trying to, like, build a life.
- 49:18Speaker 3: And, like, surprisingly. finding friends and what becomes a family
- 49:22Speaker 3: you know it's.
- 49:23Speaker 11: Like i don't know i was really kind of taken
- 49:25Speaker 11: with her as a as a character.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Almost almost as much as rocket and kind of seeing
- 49:30Speaker 3: how much.
- 49:31Speaker 1: They bonded over these last years is like kind of
- 49:34Speaker 1: cool because they're they.
- 49:35Speaker 12: Had a weird relationship that nobody else had on the
- 49:38Speaker 12: team like that's really the only ones that were around
- 49:40Speaker 12: for five years together so it's like they had a
- 49:43Speaker 12: friendship that's kind of stronger than the rest of them
- 49:46Speaker 12: because they're all dead essentially.
- 49:48Speaker 1: So yeah it's like i really like the little dynamic
- 49:51Speaker 1: we don't get much of it but i really liked
- 49:54Speaker 1: having her there she didn't just get angry or anything Like,
- 49:57Speaker 1: she kind of got over that, like, for the Avengers movies. Like,
- 50:01Speaker 1: it seemed like she calmed down a little bit, and
- 50:03Speaker 1: she was just sort of making peace with, yeah, I'm
- 50:05Speaker 1: stuck with all these idiots, but this is, you know,
- 50:07Speaker 1: these are my friends.
- 50:08Speaker 3: So she got a little better.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Like, I don't know if it's just having Gamora back
- 50:12Speaker 1: that pisses her off, but, like, she's just angry again
- 50:16Speaker 1: in this movie.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Oh, I think there was, you had to deal with
- 50:18Speaker 3: the fact that, okay, you know, my torturous, evil, demented father,
- 50:23Speaker 3: you know, did get killed, and then he comes back
- 50:27Speaker 3: and almost destroys the world a second time. Using me.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Using me. Using me, essentially. One version. And then, you know, yeah,
- 50:34Speaker 3: my sister gets killed, and then she comes back, but
- 50:37Speaker 3: it's not the same sister, so she doesn't have the
- 50:39Speaker 3: same journey that we know. Again, what bond we had
- 50:42Speaker 3: is gone.
- 50:42Speaker 10: She's the old version that we hated each other, so
- 50:46Speaker 10: what little they made up and become.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Sisters was kind of gone for the most part.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:52Speaker 3: So, yeah. So, yeah, you're right. So, yeah, she's gone
- 50:54Speaker 3: through so much. And I think, like, the biggest, because
- 50:57Speaker 3: you kind of get.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Early on.
- 51:00Speaker 3: You kind of feel her turning, and, like, she's accepting
- 51:02Speaker 3: the family. But then, of course, you know, the majority
- 51:04Speaker 3: of this movie, Rocket is basically laid out. So we're getting...
- 51:07Speaker 3: And I liked how we're getting his origin story with
- 51:10Speaker 3: him kind of almost, like, replaying it in his head,
- 51:13Speaker 3: where he's in his coma. I liked it structurally. Like,
- 51:16Speaker 3: I was impressed with it. But at the same time,
- 51:18Speaker 3: I kind of missed not having him with the team
- 51:20Speaker 3: the whole... Like, it was... A double-edged sword there. I
- 51:23Speaker 3: was like, I love getting his origin story, but at
- 51:25Speaker 3: the same time, I missed the last movie and the
- 51:28Speaker 3: one before where we got him being cool with the
- 51:30Speaker 3: team the whole movie. So it's like we're kind of
- 51:31Speaker 3: missing that three-fourths of this movie.
- 51:34Speaker 13: But I think we make up for it with the
- 51:36Speaker 13: origin story because I love seeing the origin story.
- 51:39Speaker 3: But I think that works because when he's out of
- 51:42Speaker 3: the coma and he's back and he has this big
- 51:44Speaker 3: triumphant moment... it works great because you're missing him throughout
- 51:48Speaker 3: the whole movie. And then you see all the shit
- 51:51Speaker 3: he had to go through, you know, to get to
- 51:53Speaker 3: this point. It's like, so that's a great, I think
- 51:56Speaker 3: they did a really good job of making it a
- 51:57Speaker 3: triumphant moment. Well, and you see how essential he is,
- 52:01Speaker 3: which is interesting.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Moving forward because it is the point that James Gunn
- 52:05Speaker 1: has always made. And I kind of thought that really,
- 52:07Speaker 1: it was like, because there was that little dynamic of, well,
- 52:10Speaker 1: who's in charge of this dumb team?
- 52:12Speaker 3: Peter thought he was, but we all know Peter's kind
- 52:14Speaker 3: of an idiot too. So it's like, really, this whole
- 52:17Speaker 3: thing is Rocket's story. Like, Rocket is essentially the main character.
- 52:21Speaker 3: And to me, that is the point made is he
- 52:24Speaker 3: wasn't there. Like, Peter's gone. Like, Peter gets snapped and killed.
- 52:29Speaker 3: So it's not his journey anymore. It's like the only
- 52:32Speaker 3: other one that's there through this whole story arc.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Is Rocket, and they're following Rocket through those two moves, well,
- 52:39Speaker 1: one and a half that Peter's not really in, and, like,
- 52:41Speaker 1: continuing on through this one, it's like, he's essentially our
- 52:45Speaker 1: go-to character, and the one that always kind of fixes everything, again,
- 52:50Speaker 1: Peter just sort of fumbles and occasionally.
- 52:52Speaker 6: Comes out ahead, but, like, Rocket is smart and fixes
- 52:56Speaker 6: things for them every step of the way, so he
- 52:58Speaker 6: is kind of our go-to leader of the Guardians, whether
- 53:02Speaker 6: they want to argue.
- 53:03Speaker 3: About who it is or not, like, Rockets are.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Again, I've been super attached to him since that first movie.
- 53:10Speaker 1: More so than I expected. It's amazing what they get
- 53:13Speaker 1: from him. Considering he's a guy in a suit on
- 53:16Speaker 1: the set. He's a whole bunch of people doing CG
- 53:20Speaker 1: after the fact. It's an entirely different voice actor in
- 53:23Speaker 1: a booth somewhere months later probably.
- 53:25Speaker 3: So it's like it's such a conglomeration of people and
- 53:29Speaker 3: talent to bring this to us. But as the character
- 53:32Speaker 3: goes like I'm so taken with him.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Like, again, it's like, as much as I like the
- 53:37Speaker 1: other characters and they're fun, he was always the heart
- 53:40Speaker 1: of the story. And so I was way more, even
- 53:42Speaker 1: from that first movie, like, invested in how much pain
- 53:45Speaker 1: he was carrying around. And so you definitely see where
- 53:48Speaker 1: it comes from in this movie, because it's like, it
- 53:51Speaker 1: is a hell of a story.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it is. And, you know, going back to the
- 53:56Speaker 3: point I was making earlier about Nebula, is that, yeah,
- 53:58Speaker 3: when basically Rocket is out of his coma, And, you know,
- 54:02Speaker 3: she realizes for the first time. She has a moment
- 54:04Speaker 3: where she breaks down. You've never seen that.
- 54:07Speaker 14: Oh, my God.
- 54:08Speaker 3: She's crying. I mean, even when her sister died, she
- 54:11Speaker 3: wasn't that upset. Like, it's a different connection with him.
- 54:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 54:15Speaker 3: It's, yeah. But, again, that was my point.
- 54:18Speaker 1: It was like, you see how much we're missing him,
- 54:21Speaker 1: even the audience, when he's out of commission.
- 54:23Speaker 3: And as the team comes back together, everything clicks. And
- 54:26Speaker 3: you watch them. Come back together as teamwork every step
- 54:30Speaker 3: of the way. And the two big.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Fight scenes are nothing but a conglomeration of everybody fighting
- 54:35Speaker 1: together because the gang's back together.
- 54:38Speaker 3: It works because they're all there. And, like, Rocket is
- 54:41Speaker 3: the key to all of that. Yeah. And see, like,
- 54:42Speaker 3: Rocket has, you know, this is basically Rocket's movie second
- 54:46Speaker 3: only to basically Nebula. Yeah. When it comes to... growth
- 54:49Speaker 3: of the character. Drax does get some growth as well.
- 54:53Speaker 3: He has some good moments there. Mantis also gets a
- 54:57Speaker 3: bit of growth. She's got a lot of screen time.
- 54:59Speaker 1: And I like that because, again, she's always been there
- 55:02Speaker 1: to be sort of a punchline for stuff along the way.
- 55:05Speaker 3: And she's only been there since the second.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Movie, but there's been so many other than the Guardians movies,
- 55:11Speaker 1: she's been there for all the other places that they've
- 55:14Speaker 1: turned up. So it's like, she's finally kind of getting
- 55:18Speaker 1: enough time to give her, like, a fully realized character.
- 55:21Speaker 3: I think we get a lot more from her in
- 55:22Speaker 3: this movie than we really have anywhere else.
- 55:24Speaker 11: Other than maybe the holiday special, which, again, is a
- 55:27Speaker 11: little sillier version of her.
- 55:29Speaker 1: So, yeah, I was kind of surprised how much screen
- 55:32Speaker 1: time she got in this and does sort of become
- 55:34Speaker 1: more of a real character.
- 55:36Speaker 3: And you see her powers and her abilities become much
- 55:39Speaker 3: more effective. Yeah. Because, you know, we already know that
- 55:41Speaker 3: she's a hand-to-hand combat, you know, martial art kind of
- 55:44Speaker 3: fighter or that way. but her, I guess, emotion abilities
- 55:49Speaker 3: comes much more into play in some very useful ways. Well,
- 55:53Speaker 3: and her learning how to use it.
- 55:55Speaker 1: You know, it's like, I guess she always had it,
- 55:56Speaker 1: but on the planet, what the hell would she ever
- 55:58Speaker 1: use it for?
- 55:59Speaker 3: Like, she lived with a god who changed whatever he wanted,
- 56:02Speaker 3: so it's like, you didn't need to use those powers.
- 56:04Speaker 1: But now, all of a sudden, you can use them
- 56:06Speaker 1: in the middle of a fist fight, and it changes
- 56:08Speaker 1: the whole scenario.
- 56:09Speaker 3: It's great to get the one early on scene where
- 56:11Speaker 3: she's fighting with some guards, and she basically... Laps on
- 56:14Speaker 3: the back of some lady. And it's making this poor woman...
- 56:17Speaker 3: I mean, granted, she's a guard on the opposite side.
- 56:19Speaker 3: But she's making this poor woman go through, like, four
- 56:21Speaker 3: different emotions just to take out guards. And it's like,
- 56:24Speaker 3: you know, like, Blinding Rage! And she's like, you know,
- 56:27Speaker 3: just goes off with the guns and just killing everybody.
- 56:29Speaker 3: It's not as good as you're a kitty cat. Yeah,
- 56:31Speaker 3: you're a kitty cat. The most useful in any fight.
- 56:33Speaker 3: You're a kitty cat. But then, of course, we get, like,
- 56:36Speaker 3: the big... slug giant monsters with the, you know, the
- 56:40Speaker 3: base of the walking sarlacc pits. Yeah. You know, we
- 56:42Speaker 3: get those, that trio of monsters and then she basically
- 56:45Speaker 3: tames them because like, oh, they're, they're just scared but
- 56:49Speaker 3: they don't eat people, they eat batteries.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they're also victims of our villain here. Like, they're
- 56:54Speaker 1: also creatures that much like Rocket and every other animal
- 56:56Speaker 1: there has just been created to, because he's a bastard
- 57:00Speaker 1: and he can.
- 57:01Speaker 3: So it's like, They weren't trying to be evil. They
- 57:04Speaker 3: were just stuck there like the rest of the animals. So, yeah.
- 57:07Speaker 3: And I was kind of glad they got a good...
- 57:09Speaker 3: you know, send off too.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:10Speaker 3: And of course, so we get, you know, we jumped
- 57:12Speaker 3: to the end for Mantis's character and she leaves the
- 57:15Speaker 3: team to kind of go on a journey of self-discovery. Yeah.
- 57:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 57:18Speaker 3: So she's going off by herself. Even Drax offers to go.
- 57:20Speaker 3: She's like, no, no, no. I want to go by
- 57:21Speaker 3: myself and do my thing, but I got these three
- 57:23Speaker 3: giant things to roll with me here. That's definitely been
- 57:26Speaker 3: a weird thing they were playing with these last, since
- 57:29Speaker 3: the end of the second movie.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Maybe they were toying with it, but definitely in the
- 57:34Speaker 1: other movie that they're in before they get taken out.
- 57:37Speaker 3: And then the.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Holiday special, definitely there's, like, a dynamic of, like, well,
- 57:41Speaker 1: are they trying to be, like, a couple?
- 57:43Speaker 3: Or neither of them really know how to do that
- 57:46Speaker 3: as a normal person, like Drax has, but it's so weird.
- 57:49Speaker 3: I don't see them anything as romantic. I'd see it
- 57:51Speaker 3: totally as a father-daughter.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Maybe, because as we find out, that's what Drax needs
- 57:57Speaker 1: to be, whether even he realizes it.
- 57:59Speaker 3: That's... who he was supposed to be. And for Nebula
- 58:03Speaker 3: to point out the fact that he basically, that Drax
- 58:05Speaker 3: was basically born to be a dad.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Well, I mean, she knows what a bad dad is,
- 58:10Speaker 1: so she now can recognize, you know what?
- 58:13Speaker 3: You're actually a really good dad, so. And apparently Drax
- 58:15Speaker 3: knows multiple languages, too, so he didn't know this, and
- 58:18Speaker 3: it's like, yeah, okay. We all have that.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Moment, because everybody on the team, outside of, you know, like, Rocket,
- 58:23Speaker 1: Rocket was always the smart one of the bunch, everybody
- 58:25Speaker 1: else are kind of, like, or isn't, but... She's also, like,
- 58:28Speaker 1: pretty self-centered in the early incarnations of her.
- 58:32Speaker 3: But, like, the rest of them are all just kind
- 58:33Speaker 3: of morons. Peter in particular.
- 58:36Speaker 1: But Drax is so, like, weird, closed-minded, literal, everything he does,
- 58:40Speaker 1: so he comes.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Off like an idiot.
- 58:42Speaker 1: Mantis is always, like, not dumb, but she's so uneducated
- 58:46Speaker 1: about everything.
- 58:47Speaker 3: She's very childlike. Yeah, she's very childlike.
- 58:49Speaker 1: So she's ignorant in ways because she hadn't been off
- 58:52Speaker 1: that planet her whole life.
- 58:54Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. Groot is just Goofy Groot, so it's like everybody
- 58:57Speaker 3: else on the team is kind of morons.
- 58:59Speaker 1: It makes it more fun when you've got somebody like
- 59:02Speaker 1: Rocket who points it.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Out all the time.
- 59:04Speaker 7: But also because you get that, like, we start to
- 59:07Speaker 7: see growth in them.
- 59:08Speaker 1: We do see Drax becoming a dad and more of
- 59:11Speaker 1: a person in general you see mantis like figuring out
- 59:14Speaker 1: that like you know i just do what you guys
- 59:17Speaker 1: say and like she also is pretty angry throughout.
- 59:19Speaker 12: This movie because she's coming to terms with that she's
- 59:23Speaker 12: like why am i listening to you people like you're
- 59:25Speaker 12: all idiots.
- 59:26Speaker 3: Yeah So, yeah, it's kind of fun to get these
- 59:29Speaker 3: characters that seem just sort of basically dumb and be like, well,
- 59:32Speaker 3: they're not. They're just experiencing more now and you're finding what.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Their strengths are and finding out even they're figuring out
- 59:39Speaker 1: what they need to be doing.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Yeah. She makes a reference, you know, like, you know,
- 59:43Speaker 3: when she was on Ego's planet, you know, she didn't,
- 59:45Speaker 3: you know, like you said, she didn't get a chance
- 59:47Speaker 3: to use her powers and develop and learn all this
- 59:49Speaker 3: sort of thing, experience all this stuff. Even Peter, early
- 59:53Speaker 3: on in the movie, admits the mistake he made with
- 59:55Speaker 3: punching Thanos in the video.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Surprisingly, because that's the reason I've been pissed at him
- 59:59Speaker 1: for years now.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: I'm just like, everybody else had their plan together. You suck, Peter.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: It's like, you ruined everything.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I'm not saying it wasn't for a reason, but you
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: still suck.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Like, it pissed me off. And I like all he
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: makes you say. He's like, well, I kind of lost
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: my temper a bunch. I was like, you kind of
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: lost your temper.
- 1:00:15Speaker 10: But I also like that's more than I expected out
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: of him.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: He's always sort of like, no, I got this.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: But I was just like, hmm, even that's growth for
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: him that he's willing to admit that he did something wrong.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: He was an idiot, so. Yeah, but the movie starts off,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: like I say, in kind of a dark.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Tone, too.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Because you start off with a little bit of
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Rocket's story that's not nice. Baby raccoon versions, which are
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: adorable and then makes it twice as frightening when the
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: giant hand's coming from. Like, oh, God, don't hurt baby raccoons. Yeah.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: And the whole movie, you can have that mode.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: No, God, don't. No, stop.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: And then, you know, Peter is in this pathetic drunken
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: stupor for the first, you know, chunk of the movie.
- 1:00:55Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: You know, before things kind of start getting rolling. You know,
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: and then, of course, basically we get, you know, we
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: introduce Adam Warlock. He injures Rocket to the point where
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Rocket is in a coma. And then you're like, oh, shit.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: You know, it's like, what are we doing here? So,
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: but our whole thing is basically to kind of get
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: us to there as if Rocket's injured. He has a
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: device on his heart that basically is kind of a
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: kill switch. It's basically a kill switch because it's proprietary technology.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: You know, to the high evolutionary. Him being an asshole.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: This is my property. I don't want anybody messing with it.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I'd rather destroy it than have my technology get out
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: to someone else.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Yeah. And then we go to, and I love to
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: because James Gunn is very much a family kind of
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: guy with his crew of people, with the actors he
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: likes working with. So he likes bringing in his friends.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: So we get a little flash of Michael Rooker at
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: the end of the movie. A Yondu Obi-Wan sort of moment.
- 1:01:51Speaker 15: Stretch out with your feelings. Use the arrow. We get
- 1:01:54Speaker 15: Nathan Fillion finally in a Marvel movie. He'd been teased
- 1:01:57Speaker 15: a couple of times. There was a little voice work
- 1:02:00Speaker 15: that first one. And he was like, In the background
- 1:02:03Speaker 15: in the second one. So, yeah, it's like they figured
- 1:02:06Speaker 15: out ways to tease with him. But full on, not
- 1:02:09Speaker 15: even in makeup.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Just the rookie in a weird bodysuit in the whole movie.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: I was like, that's just straight up Nathan Fillion hanging
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: out here. And I love it, too, because I've got
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: to do my research. I don't remember this corporation in
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: the MCU. Essentially, they're a subsidiary of the High Evolutionary,
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: his group. But basically, everything is bio-organic. So it looks
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: like everybody's wearing, like, meaty muscle suits. And that's what
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: I was like, as we got into that part of it,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: I was just.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Like, you know, they maybe could have given Multiverse of
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Madness to James Gunn, because this is equally as twisted
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: as the shit that was going on there. And this
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: is technically a normal, normal universe kind.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Of going on. But I was like, this is a
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: weird section of this movie right now, so.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I was like, I am enjoying it, but it is
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: very visceral and gross in the best possible way.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. So that is goofy shit. But yeah, I
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: love that. And then, of course, we get a little
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: bit of a mini Peacemaker reunion, too, because, of course,
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: you know, Chuck Woody played a major role in that.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: And then Jennifer Holland has a little bit of, you know,
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: basically we got Mrs. James Gunn for a little cameo
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: role there. So it's like, oh, we've got a little
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: peacemaker reunion here. Well, then you get Suicide Squad, because
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: we've got Ratcatcher 2. Yeah, that's true. As an alien.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Because I kept going, man, she's familiar. Why do I
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: know her? Why does she look so damn familiar? Well,
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: and Sean Gunn, of course, who plays Kraglin, also was
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: the weasel.
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: And actually, he's also the stand-in for Rocket. He should be.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: I know they credited somebody else in IMDb now. So
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: I guess when he's doing his part, they've got another
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: stand-in version, maybe. But yeah, I was like, from the beginning,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: he was always that. And even Kranglin gets a growth moment, too.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: He finally learns to use that damn arrow.
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: Yeah, because he was trying to focus on the whistle.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: It's all about the harp. Use your harp, boy! Use
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: your harp, boy! The touching moments with Michael Berg. It
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: really is, yeah. It's hard to get those, because he's crazy.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: But he's got them. Yeah, and I love, you know,
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: of course, you get this ragtag group of people that
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: all live on nowhere now. I like that little scenario.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Maybe because we're coming off the holiday special, it's the
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: last thing we saw, but we've got that little town
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: built in there now, and it's so quaint in its
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: own weird, messed up way. It's such a nice little
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: homey place that I'm like, I just want to hang
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: out here. Can we get a Nowhere series where we
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: just see regular day-to-day shit going on there?
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: Because it's kind of fun. I would agree with that.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: We've seen a little bit of that in the comics anyway.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: Even with the jeweler guy from the first Guardians movie
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: that Peter gets the Infinity Stone from. Yeah. You know,
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: the little glass, you know, trinkets that y'all do like.
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: That guy lives in nowhere now. The fact that I
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: thought he was dead.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Look at all he's revived.
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Good for him. He can play cards now. We flesh
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: out Cosmo a little bit more. We get to see her,
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: you know, telekinetic abilities. That I was so happy with.
- 1:05:00Speaker 16: Like, because again, I like just the cute add-on at
- 1:05:03Speaker 16: the post-credits, you know. But after that, especially in this movie,
- 1:05:07Speaker 16: as it went on, I was like, oh, this isn't
- 1:05:10Speaker 16: by accident.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Like, this is because... We're basically telling the Laika story.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: I mean, that's why she's a female voice. That's why she's,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: you know, a girl dog is because they're tying it.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: It's James Gunn doing a little tribute to the Russian
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: dogs that they fired into space with not a chance
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: of them coming back. And like, so once again, I'm like,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: how is this any different than what our villain's doing here?
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: They're just experimenting on animals and knowing when they're done
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: with them, they're going to kill them.
- 1:05:39Speaker 17: That's exactly what this guy's doing. I was like, this isn't,
- 1:05:42Speaker 17: I mean, this is obviously a parallel character that he's
- 1:05:45Speaker 17: worked in. And, and I really like that. They're like,
- 1:05:48Speaker 17: she's not only just like really important.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: And as we find out kind of strong as a,
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: as a.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Powerful character, but still kind of fun and goofy. And,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: and the fact that before I thought maybe she was
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: like suspended animation and like stolen from that.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: Time and kept there. But the fact that she's just
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: been wearing that suit all these years. Yes. I was like,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: that is crazy. But also the suit allows her to speak.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: But I love too that like, okay, so she speaks
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: in broken English because she is a Russian dog. So
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: which means she's bilingual because she obviously speaks Russian as
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: her native tongue. But she also still has dog-like qualities. Like, basically,
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: when Kraglin says she's a bad dog, in the whole movie,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: she's taken this personally. But it's not so much like...
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: It's like, I'm mad at you. It's like, I don't
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: want to be a bad dog. I want you to
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: like me. I know I'm a good dog. You don't
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: say that. And that's how a dog is. Dogs don't
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: get pissed.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: They want you.
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: To like them.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: That's why I really, yeah, I was so glad to
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: have that added character this time.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Because it could have just been a one-off and like,
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: that's the joke and whatever. But there's so much more
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: going on there once you get it. I mean, everybody
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: in this whole series, but specifically this movie, is nothing but...
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: twisted horrible backstory.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Like every one of them like that's that's the key
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: to guardians of the galaxy is.
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: They're all just horrible backstories and a broken bunch of
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: people that come together to form this family and you
- 1:07:17Speaker 7: know cosmos and she's just such a good addition to
- 1:07:20Speaker 7: that like i.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Think she factors in and i'm kind of glad not
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: to jump to the end but we're going to be
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: getting more.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: At least in the context of where that story is
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: going she gets.
- 1:07:30Speaker 11: To stay on and be part of it and i
- 1:07:31Speaker 11: really like that so well i Gunn's idea for the
- 1:07:35Speaker 11: Guardians of the Galaxy and a lot of what he's
- 1:07:37Speaker 11: taken from has been from kind of the late 90s,
- 1:07:41Speaker 11: early 2000s run.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: That Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning did, where they basically
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: kind of, the Guardians have kind of been a little
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: bit obscure. There was a different team that was in
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: the 70s and then kind of they were resurrected a
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: little bit in the early 90s, went away, and then
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: now this new team of other cosmic heroes, some of
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: the older members of the Guardians, some kind of different Like, Star-Lord,
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: at the time they resurrected him for the Guardians, had
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: been an obscure character for the last almost 20 years. Like,
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: he was made in the 70s, weird character, didn't really
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: do anything with him, and they kind of just forgot
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: about him. But, like, the uniforms that we see, like
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: the dark blue, like, kind of big leather stuff, that
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: comes from that run. Cosmo comes from that run. Nowhere
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: comes from that run. So, all of a sudden, it
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: would be like, you know, That's the great thing. Cosmo
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: is pretty much Cosmo. That's a perfect translation there. I
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: love when the Guardians basically take over Nowhere. They make
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: Nowhere mobile, which was a new adjustment. That was cool.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: I didn't see that coming until it came flying up.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: I was like, well, this is useful. And the giant
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: four-stage cannon.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: It's like, okay. So we've now turned basically a hand
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: of a dead celestial that was just a base of
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: operations is now a mobile base of operations with weaponry.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: It's a massive ship that you can go kick somebody's
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: ass if need be.
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: Yeah. So, excellent stuff. I like that, you know, Kraglin's
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: kind of staying on there. Nebula's going to stay on.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: Drax is going to stay on to basically be everybody's
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: favorite dad. Yeah. You know, and then, you know, Gamora
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: basically goes back. Like, we see Gamora has basically... been
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: hanging out with the Ravagers. So we get Stallone and
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: all the Ravager guys come back. Yeah, they're all back.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: Even though we got Stallone, but we couldn't get Miley
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: Cyrus to come back to play a voice. Was it
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: they couldn't, or they just wanted, they're like, eh, people
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: like Tara Strong and other stuff, we'll just get her. Yeah,
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: I mean, I was fine with Tara. I mean, I
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: was like, yeah. Not that that character has a lot
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: to do anyway, so it's fine.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Much more was the, what's the snake person?
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: They're just badass looking. Well, see, here's the snake person. Krugar. Krugar, yeah.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: So in the comics, Krugar is the Sorcerer Supreme of
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: the 31st century. Yeah, a different version. So that's kind
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: of where he shows a little bit magical stuff like that,
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: and basically he keeps mute and whatever else. I think
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: it's just the look, though. Because even in the last one,
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: I was just like, oh, I don't know who that is,
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: but they're badass.
- 1:10:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: Most of them, the fact that they.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Get to roll in and do some sling ring in,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: and I was like, all right, let's hang out some.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: More with Kruger. Yeah, Kruger's pretty cool. Just looks cool. Yeah,
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: but it's hilarious because the Starhawk or Stakar is, you know,
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Sylvester Stallone's character plays. The Stallone version versus the comic version, very, very, very, very,
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: very different.
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:27Speaker 18: So I kind of wish they would have somehow worked
- 1:10:32Speaker 18: a way in of like, Because basically, in the comics,
- 1:10:36Speaker 18: Starhawk was initially two beings, because Starhawk had a.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: Wife named Alita. And then at one point, their powers were,
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: they were injured, there was some kind of walking thing
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: with their powers, and literally these people were merged into
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: the same person, were basically like, sometimes Starhawk was the
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: person you saw up front, and then they'd switch out,
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: and Alita was the person you'd see up front, and
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: they were two different people. That's a weird relationship at
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: that point. It's a very weird relationship. It's kind of
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: like when the other person wasn't being used, they were
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: kind of like almost like in this place of cosmic emptiness.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: Like you're just kind of sitting in this waiting room
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: completely by themselves, and it's a vast emptiness. This is
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: not fun for anybody. Exactly. So it kind of had
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: an effect on the character. So it would have been
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: kind of a fun thing to see, like, I don't know,
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: some sort of female counterpart that Stallone is... To have
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: Talia Shire show up or something like that would have
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: been hilarious. Some of those lines basically switch places with
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: their bodies. I feel like they don't want to do
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: too much with him because you're not going to get
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: him to do a whole movie. You need to keep
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: him to just come in and be kind of a
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: jerk the whole time.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Both times we've seen him now, he just comes in
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: and complains about what they're doing.
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: You're not a Ravager. Get out of here. That's his role.
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: He did that fine. Gamora ends up being back with
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: the Ravagers. But, yeah, we kind of alluded to this,
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: that we get two post-credit scenes here. One of them
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: is basically showing the future New Guardians. The new crew. Yeah,
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: because as we leave it here, we're like, you know,
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Peter decides, you know what, I haven't been home as
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: an Earth really since I was taken. I mean, granted,
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: we had to stop over to help save the world
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: and everything like that, the universe launch, but it's like
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: we really haven't been back home. I haven't seen if
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: I still have any living family members or else. So
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: that's where Peter's journey is going to go. So Rocket's
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: got the team now. It's him. It's Groot. Cosmo's there.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: Now we got, you know, this new guy, Adam Warlock,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: besides he's going to stick around because, you know, basically
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: he watched his mother die and he's got his little fuzzy,
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: you know, pet, you know, whatever that thing is.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I mean, they excel at making cute side characters.
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: So it's just become the new thing. I'm like, what
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: are we going to do with this movie? that's got
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: a cute sidekick kind of character.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: So that's what, you know, Disney in general, obviously, because they.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: Do it in Star Wars, too. So it's like, what
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: can we do to make some new cute side characters?
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: And he does a good job, because I like that
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: weird little thing. But then an interesting thing is, of course,
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: when we're on the high evolutionary ship and, you know,
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: things blow up and everybody's trying to get out there,
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: we find, oh, there's a whole bunch of children there.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: All from the same race. They kind of look like
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: they all came from Village of the Damned. Because everybody's
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: like white-haired little kids and whatever else. But all these
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: children were in cages, basically. So it's like, okay, we've
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: got to get these kids out of here. And then
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: Rocket finds a whole bunch of animals. We've got to
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: get these guys out of here, too. So we get
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: all those kids out. But one of those kids ends
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: up becoming part of the new team. And so I'm like, okay, well, who's,
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: you know, as I wonder with this, so I go
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: and watch the credits and they credit that girl as
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: basically named Phyla. I was like, oh. They're already setting
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: up so many things. Yeah, so basically she's Phyla, and
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: later on she becomes Phyla Velas. Basically, she becomes part
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: of the Marvel line, where she gets the cosmic... Oh, Mrs.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: Marvel of some sort. Yeah, she basically gets the power
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: of cosmic and becomes a guardian of the universe, while
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: she's also still.
- 1:14:06Speaker 14: A member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. So, you know,
- 1:14:09Speaker 14: that's the other thing, too. We didn't talk much about
- 1:14:11Speaker 14: Groot yet. Groot's kind of back to being the muscle,
- 1:14:14Speaker 14: because he's fully grown once again, and he bulks up
- 1:14:16Speaker 14: a little more, too, so he's like a.
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: He's just a new variation, because he's not technically old Groot.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: He's son of Groot, so he's like a different version,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: and they were saying also that maybe it's because he,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: being the weird plant-type creature he is, Osmosis, like, feeds
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: off of energy, and he was around Star-Lord and Mantis, both.
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: Of which are from gods, so like.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: whatever, like, ego energy they're putting out, he was potentially.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Feeding off of.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: Possibly, yeah.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: So, yeah, I was like, I heard that. I was like, okay,
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: that makes sense, but maybe that's why he looks a
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: little different now, too. Well, and the thing about Groot
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: is that he's so versatile that we've seen throughout the
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: different films and different things he can do. So we see, like, okay, well,
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: he's able to kind of change his mass a little bit,
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: you know, when he's growing to basically be much more
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: stockier and bulkier, very much, very thing-like. Right. Also, hey,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: he can hold weapons and stash them.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Stash them and you can't even read them because he's
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: biological on the outside.
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: He's a tree.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: So you don't notice those hidden away guns and metal
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: inside of him.
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: Also, the wings thing. I saw the toy first, like,
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: Groot has wings? It's like, oh, okay.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: If we're going back even further, I don't know if
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: you get more badass than Nebula with the wings.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: And her new badass arm. Yeah. Like, she was full on, like,
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Iron Man mode at that point. It was just like, oh,
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: can we keep those on her? Because that's awesome. Yeah,
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: I noticed very early on in the movie she had
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: a new arm. I'm like, oh, that new arm can
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: do things. Yeah.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: So I think he took some of the Tony nanotech
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: and Rocket put it on her and went, hey, I
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: I've got an idea.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: You'll have a really awesome arm now. Oh, I'm sure
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: basically there were other nanotechs around the universe that were
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: even greater than stars. Well, I mean, you didn't hang
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: out with them for five years. That's right, yeah. Tony
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: had some pretty good tech, so if you're going to
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: steal from somebody, you know, go with that. Absolutely, yeah.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: But yeah, so to have this little girl who basically
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: may very well become a new guardian of the universe, like, okay,
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: that's big shit. Because that's where.
- 1:16:16Speaker 19: I was sort of, if they want to tie in,
- 1:16:18Speaker 19: because if we're... if he created this entire race of people,
- 1:16:22Speaker 19: if we're sticking with some of the old story was,
- 1:16:25Speaker 19: isn't she made from DNA from Mar-Vell? So is that
- 1:16:29Speaker 19: at some point he goes back and gets a sample
- 1:16:32Speaker 19: of her DNA, creates this race from them. And she
- 1:16:35Speaker 19: is still technically, you know, created from the DNA of
- 1:16:39Speaker 19: Mar-Vell as were these other kids.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: She was just, Like Rocket, she was the special one
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: that came out and has powers, and maybe she's a mutant.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: Who knows? They can tie in whatever they want to
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: make up the science now.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: But I thought that was a good way because all
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: of these characters moving forward, you can now go, well,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: he created.
- 1:16:56Speaker 19: This race, he also created this.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: So everybody comes from something that if they want to,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: they can use that and play that card later.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Absolutely, yeah. So there's a lot of potential they can
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: go through. Another thing I thought was interesting is there
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: was one cosmic character that technically started out in the
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: Avengers in the 80s because she got absorbed into the
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: Guardians group in the same run, and then they kind
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: of fleshed out her character a little bit more to
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: make things fairly interesting. The fact that this character is
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: called Moondragon, and she's human, but she... I saw where
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: they go with her in Arcade here.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Well, basically, Moondragon is... She's human, but she has some
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: very cosmic-level... mental abilities.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: So, because she was basically taken at an early age
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: and whatever else. But the interesting thing is that in
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: the comics continuity, she's the daughter of Drax. Because Drax
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: is technically human and was changed by Thanos and basically
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: put into this alien body and whatever else. At one point,
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: Thanos was a jazz musician. He plays the saxophone. I
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: can see that. You know, much like his I'm going
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: to go be a farmer life. I can see him
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: being like, you know, I'm going to go try jazz
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: for a while. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Drax is Duke Silver, basically. So,
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: but yeah, but anyway, but yeah, so, because I forget
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: what Drax's real name is, but his last name is Douglas,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: and Moondragon's name is Heather Douglas. So they find this
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: out years, years, years later that basically they're father and daughter.
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: But yeah, but also Moondragon does get into a romantic
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: relationship with Phyla. Yeah, it's all that down the line
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: when they're grownups, yeah. Yeah, and also an interesting thing, too,
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: that Moondragon can do is basically kind of a true
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: form with her abilities that she basically is an actual...
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: So that she occasionally can turn into this very ethereal
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: dragon sort of form. But it's also kind of like a,
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: you know, it's hard for her to turn back sort
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: of thing. it's kind of a moment of last resort
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: for her to go into this form mode of like
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: i don't want to have to turn but if i
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: do i can tear up some shit so yeah well
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: it's kind of you need me to because i will
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: it's kind of like basically she would choose to go
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: into what her actual cosmic potential is, but then it's
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: hard for her to go back into human form and
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: basically step back on the evolutionary scale just to be
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: back with her girlfriend and her buddies.
- 1:19:14Speaker 20: But that's another one they could kind of do a
- 1:19:17Speaker 20: version of because now Drax is going to be dad
- 1:19:19Speaker 20: to everyone, so she can be adopted daughter, he can
- 1:19:22Speaker 20: be one of his favorites in this new little group,
- 1:19:24Speaker 20: and Again, she's created from who knows what, so she
- 1:19:27Speaker 20: could have weird powers too.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: And so they can pick and choose from those white
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: haired kids and be like, okay, who do you want
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: to be upcoming cool superheroes? Well, it's either that or
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: this is a way to bring Dave Bautista back into
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: the Drax role because maybe the Guardians meet Moondragon and
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: then you find out, oh, she is the daughter.
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: And so this could, they could even tie into this
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: is the daughter Drax thought was dead. So he's resurrected.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Or some drunken one-off. He spent a lot of time
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: drunk after that, so who knows what next. Possibly, yeah.
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: I think it would have a much more emotional resonance
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: if this is the daughter he thought was dead. I
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: I felt like that was always such a specific character
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: point for him.
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: How much... sadness he carried from losing both.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: Of them yeah i don't know in a way it
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: undercuts it by like oh no she's back like in
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: a way they always do that and you're.
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Like no no no look we all those characters you
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: thought were dead are back like I don't know.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: I kind of liked the finality of it and that
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: giving him basically his character from that point.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: And that's why he was the messed up guy that
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: he was, much like all of them. Well, he still
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: would have that emotion, but, you know, you get somewhat
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: of a redemption because the character's back in a bit
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: of a different form. It changes things at least. Yeah,
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, your daughter's back, but she's now, you know, 20,
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: 30 years older and she's an entire... You kind of
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: missed your dad version.
- 1:20:53Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: So, you know, there's sort of... There's some things they
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: could play with around there if they so chose. This
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: thing is like, this isn't the end of the Guardians.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: Just like basically the Infinity War endgame, it's not the
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: end of the Avengers. It's just the end of that team.
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: Things change quite a bit. Yeah, the Guardians team is.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: We set it up. But even by the end of it,
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: it was like, okay, I want to go follow these
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: guys now. I'm already invested in this new crew. Yeah.
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: We also left out Kraglin. Don't forget.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Kraglin was also part of the group. And has figured
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: out how to use the arrow finally. Yeah. He used
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: his arm. But, yeah, getting to our final showdown with
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: the High Evolutionary here. Of course, we get a lot
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: of different... We get some fake-out moments because we almost
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: think we lose Rocket. Then we almost think we lose Peter. Totally. Like,
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: full in, you thought you were like, well, this is
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: the end of Peter.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: They kind of played all of it because there was, like,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: at least three different characters. I was like, because I
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: also thought we were going to lose Nebula. Like, I
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: thought she was going to sacrifice herself to pilot the ship.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: Right, yeah.
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: And then it was going to blow up and we'd
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: lose her. But she saved everybody. I'm like. all right,
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: if that's what we're going to do, but I really
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: am invested in her lately, so, like, don't do this.
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: It also kind of proves, like, it's kind of hard
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: to kill Nebula. Well, that's true. I mean, yeah, we've
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: watched her what would have killed anyone so many times
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: in this movie alone, let alone every other one. Yeah,
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: she's had numerous falls and impalements. It would take a lot. But, yeah,
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: I guess if you blew up the whole ship, you
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: could pretend like she was dead. But other than that,
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: it takes a lot to kill her. She even hilariously
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: gets stabbed by Kraglin's arrow.
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just play for a joke at that point. Like,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: she just yanks it out. Oh, it's like straight in
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: the chest. Like, if she were a human, that's a
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: 100% heart shot.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: Nebula had a heart. I mean, she does, but it's
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: not right there. It wasn't even strong enough of a
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: shot to pierce the armor. It literally just sticks right
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: in and she just yanks it out. What the hell?
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: Come on, guys. Get it together. Yeah, love that. But, yeah,
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: they really fake you out on the Star-Lord because, like, okay,
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: he's frosting over. We've had that. I was like, how
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: many times is he going to get stuck out in space?
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: But then when his face starts blowing up, like, oh, shit.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: You don't want to come back from that, right? I
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: guess you do. But, yeah, at that point, I was like, well,
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: I guess we're right. No, I'm sorry. Yeah. That's the
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: one I could get over easy. Exactly.
- 1:23:16Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: I've been pissed at him for years. So I'm like,
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: if he kills Darlord, I'll be okay. Yeah, I kind
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: of thought the same thing too. I was like, both
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: the actor and the character I've been so annoyed with
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: for years now, I'm just like, eh, I'll be okay.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: Just make sure Rocket's alright.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Which I thought, that's the third one. I thought, like,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: he's either gonna, like, which, it seemed like a cheat though.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I was like, if we go through this whole movie
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: to save him, and then kill him off anyway.
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: I was just like, what the hell? So, yeah, but
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: I can almost see, like, if he's, once again, if
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: he's sacrificing.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Himself like i'm gonna stay here and fight the big
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: bad you guys get off the ship and then he
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: ends up getting killed because of that and like all
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: right yeah yes that would suck but i can almost
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: see that and then when he went back to the
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: animals i was like is he gonna sacrifice himself just
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: to go save.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: The other animals. I'm like, Jesus, this is too much
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: to deal with. I think at this point, James and
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: the screenwriters knew we'd seen too much animal cruelty already
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: that we needed this moment of redemption where all the
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: animals get off safe. Rocky gets off safe. We kind
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: of need that.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: We watch them murder a lot of mutant animals.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: Both in the tubes and the characters we got to know.
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: It's like, this is a lot to process.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: But then.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Interestingly enough, in this scene, we finally get the last
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: key to Rocket's origin. The one that he didn't even know.
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: That A, Rocket is in fact a raccoon, and B...
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: He's from Earth. From Earth, like Peter. Little did they
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: know they were both neighbors.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: Planet-wise, anyway. He's a North American raccoon. Both from Earth, yep. So, yeah.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: And then also, he finally does, when he has that
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: moment where he basically blows away the high evolutionary, he
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: calls himself, for the first time, Rocket Raccoon. Because that's been... Title-wise,
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: that's been his character the whole time, but he's never
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: acknowledged that. Yeah, he's like, I'm not a raccoon. I'm
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: not a raccoon.
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: You know, he wanted to correct people every time they
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: called him the wrong woodland creature, which happens a lot
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: in this movie, maybe more than ever, outside of Thor
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: constantly calling him rabbit.
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: But this one, they picked a lot of different ones
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: over the none of it.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: So, that was fun, and now we actually have An
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: answer that even he accepts.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Rocket Raccoon. And I like, too, that, you know,
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: we get, you know, of course, we get his big,
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: you know, almost death fake out where he's in the
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: white room.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: A very dramatic moment of even Peter.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: I was like, I feel bad for him all of
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: a sudden. Yeah. It takes a lot for me to
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: feel for him. And we get to see, you know,
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: of course, like, because one of the, probably the toughest
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: scene ever. in the whole movie, is Rocket figures out
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: a way to escape these cages when they're still being
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: held by the High Evolutionary. And he's already said, incinerate
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: them all. So we know they're all going to die
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: if he doesn't do something.
- 1:25:59Speaker 19: So he finds a way, once again, he's smarter than
- 1:26:02Speaker 19: everybody else and figures a way to escape.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: And then... It's in great such Rocket form. He's constantly
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: stealing parts. Because basically, the thing is, what makes him
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: so special is that the High Evolutionary has been working
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: on making animals human-esque sort of thing. Like, where they're
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: humanoid sort of creatures. It's very Island of Dr.
- 1:26:22Speaker 17: Moreau.
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: We haven't even got to the planet. Like, alternate Earth
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: is just 100% Island of Dr.
- 1:26:27Speaker 13: Moreau.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like, which is what James Gunn is, like,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: supposedly really into, I think, Island of Lost Souls, and, like,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: so he did, like, kind of do that as his
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: own little tribute to it.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: But, I mean, that's also, this is right out of
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: the comics. Yeah. Counter-Earth does exist. The animen... are a
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: race of creatures that basically were at one point animals
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: and are turned into humanoid creatures and whatever else. But,
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: you know, in the High Revolutionary's kind of experimenting, he's
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: experimenting with cybernetics and machine parts. So basically that's why, like,
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: Lila and Floor and Teef's like, okay, you know, it's
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: a walrus in a wheelchair. They're all cyborgs, you know.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: The most human-like is Rocket. He only has attachments, more
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: or less, but he doesn't have mechanical parts like that.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: Yeah, like Lila has arms. Yeah, it's a sea otter
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: with robotic arms. Floor is a rabbit that has, like,
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: spider legs, which is kind of, you know, disturbing.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Disturbing and can't talk without the mouthpiece thing that is
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: also disturbing.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: Like, Floor is pretty messed up.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: It's a good thing she's so innocent and cute and
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: childlike because the character is scary.
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: To look at. Yeah, it's like if you would see
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: Floor for the first time, you may scream because she
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: kind of looks like an island of misfit toys. You know,
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: the creepy scene in Toy Story with all the weird...
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: The little doll head. The weird mangled toys. Yeah. It's
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: that moment. As soon as she speaks, like, oh, that's
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: a cute little bunny. She's the goofiest of the four. Yeah.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: But yeah, so Rocket has basically been stealing parts because
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: the High Evolutionary is basically using him to help him
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: with his experiments. He's asking him questions and Rocket apparently
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: is smart enough to figure things out that he doesn't.
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: That's what I like.
- 1:28:04Speaker 10: He's smarter than our villain. He's like, well, here's your problem, idiot.
- 1:28:08Speaker 10: He doesn't say that, but I'm like... he just immediately
- 1:28:12Speaker 10: looks at it and is like, well, here's the problem,
- 1:28:13Speaker 10: because Rocket's that damn smart. And even our super genius
- 1:28:17Speaker 10: villain is like.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: Oh, shit, I didn't even think of that. And then,
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: of course, that enrages him even further. Basically, this creation
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: figured it out. Surpassed him, essentially, yeah. But still, that's great, though.
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: Rocket still had the foresight to like, okay, I'm not
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: acting like I'm planning on bust out of here, but
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: apparently I've been the whole time.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: But just in case, I might need to. Because they
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: still kind of, he was half buying into that, we're
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: all going to leave. and go on a ship and
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: we're going to go to.
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: The new world. But obviously there's always a little bit of,
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: but I'm going to have a plan B. Because he always...
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: seems to sort of plan for an alternate. Things are
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: going to go to hell. I might need something else.
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: And then Rocket hears that, the order that, oh, basically
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: we're all going to get killed. Let's get the hell
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: out of here. And so he basically has all these
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: parts around his cage, builds a device that basically he's
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: able to kind of, you know, fake the key card reader,
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: get them out there. So all his friends are out there,
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: ready to get the hell out of there. And then
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: Lila gets shot by some guards. And then that puts
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: Rocket into a rage. So he goes into a fight and,
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: fight the guards, takes him out, and then apparently in
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: the firefight, his other two friends are killed. Holy fucking shit.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: This is just... There are some tear-inducing moments in this movie.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: That's one of them, folks. That's the rough one. And
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: that's why, like, because it's our stupid villain, and I'm like, he's.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: At least, like, the only thing you see at that
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: point is how enraged he is, and we at least
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: get to see him take it out on his face.
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: And I was like, that's the only thing that almost...
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: helps a little. It's like, it's the reason he's wearing
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: a stupid Robocop face.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: Because his face is torn to shreds by a rocket, which,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: once again, I kind of like that. He carried that
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: for the rest of his life because he did rocket rock.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: He deserved to suffer. And that's the thing. In the
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: moment we see Rocket attack the Evolutionary, we don't know.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: And then at that last moment, when basically the group
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: at the end is fighting with the Evolutionary, and you
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: see the part where his mask gets off, Gamora takes
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: the rest of it off, and you see, oh yeah,
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: he was wearing this rubber mask the whole time, and
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: Rocket didn't just scratch his face, he, like, he looks
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: like a red skull, actually. The face is gone, the
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: jaw's partially there, he got fucked up.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Which I heard them say, that's an interesting comparison, because
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: they're both very, let's create a perfect race kind of
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: a movie. villain so not too far off on the
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: red skull.
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: Uh yeah yeah so rocket messed him up big time
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: of course he gets the pleasure of killing him so
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: yeah well again being the better person he doesn't really.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: Yeah we take him out as far as we know
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: again you don't see the body you can always bring
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: him back in the future whatever but for the sake
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: of the series we take him out and he wins
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: but he doesn't stoop to his level and kill him
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: because he's.
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: A guardian of the galaxy.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: So that was kind of a nice moment of like,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: even rockets kind of like elevating to.
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: Being like, again, I think old rocket probably just would
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: have shot him in the head. But now that he's
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: kind of found his family, he's like, I don't need
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: to be that.
- 1:31:23Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: It's very much like the, the, the Hela kind of
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: fate and, you know, for Ragnarok. It's like, we assume
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: that they see, okay. Yes. Asgard is destroyed. Surtur and
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: Hela are fighting and, And they're both falling on the
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: thing and whatever else. So we don't see the bodies.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: We don't see a pop-up of them at the end.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: So later, if we can convince her to do another movie,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: she can come back.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: But for now, she's dead in quotes. Yeah, and it's
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: kind of the same thing with High Evolutionary. He's dead
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: in quotes. We didn't see a body. He didn't make
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: it off the ship either. So who knows? For this movie,
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: he's dead. Yes. We win, he's dead.
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: Yay.
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and then kind of going back to Peter's point there,
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: so Peter grows up a little bit in this film, too, because,
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: you know, we get the send-off of Gamora's going to
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: go back with the Ravagers, and Peter has a conversation
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: with her basically like, you know, there's certain points in
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: the movie where Gamora's with the Guardians, and you almost
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: kind of think, is she going to fall in love
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: with them all over again? she at least turns a corner.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: Because there is that first half of the movie where
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't think I care about Gamora anymore.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: To quote Peter, she's a dick.
- 1:32:35Speaker 7: She just sucks.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: And so being around them that second half of the movie,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: she starts to realize that not just Peter, but they're
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: all kind of good people and why she was there
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: to begin with. And I'd say she sort of regains
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: her humanity, but she's not human. So whatever version of
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: that for her race, She becomes kind of the good
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: version of her that we had in, like, the second movie.
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: And that's, you know, we want to see that, but
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: at the same time, it's not the same. Like, again,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: she doesn't have that closeness with her sister. They do
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: the same old head nod. I see you.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: I see you. They grunt at each other. Yeah, they
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: grunt at each other and move on. They're like, yeah,
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: you're my sister. I get it.
- 1:33:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: But, again, not quite as close as they were before.
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: Same thing with Peter. She's like, I see why she
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: loved you. I don't necessarily.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: And like, that was, that is an interesting moment because
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: it is like, they're both in a better place because
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: of it.
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: Cause Peter was still like stuck.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: Like he was never going to be able to move
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: on without just putting that nail in the coffin and
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: be like, all right, I guess we're done. So he
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: needed that more than anybody, but I think it helped
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: her too because she got to be that person, but.
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: It's not what you got. So I might stay with
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: the Ravagers, but.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: I'm at least more or less who I need to
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: be along the way because she sort of found out.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: Because I do like that there's all those moments when
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: even the final one where they're all like hugging, but
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: she still doesn't join in.
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: She's like, she's smiling. She's happy that they're there. But
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: she's like, this isn't my family. This isn't my group.
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: But then when you see her rejoin with the Ravagers
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: and Stalker, you know, basically hugs her and says, welcome back.
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: They're all like, you know, yeah. Welcome home. This is
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: her family.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: And you see her reactions like, okay, she's formed a
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: bond with the Ravagers.
- 1:34:22Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: That's her family now. So, yeah. So again, it's growth
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: out of people I didn't even think were going to
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: have growth. So I'm surprised, again, points to Jade Gunn.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: The story arcs he takes us on.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: On some silly characters that like turns out to be like, oh,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I mean, he always has heart, but, like, he just followed.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: Through on every thread on these. It's, like, it's impressively
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: put together. And then we get, of course, our last
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: scene of, you know, Peter has basically made the decision,
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: I'm going to go back to Earth, see, he's like,
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: I had a grandfather, so he's like, but I haven't
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: seen him since I ran out of the room, and
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: I don't even know if he's still alive. I do, like, yeah,
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: they die at, like, 50. You're about to die? You're
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: about to die? Yeah. And I feel like Jax is like, hmm, probably.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: Look at him. He's 50. Look at him. He's close enough, yeah.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: So I feel like that little moment leading to it,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: but then you get back to it, and super old
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: man Grandpa's still around.
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: He's still around. Not only is he still around, he's
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: got this whole wall of pictures that basically... show that
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: he's still been pining for this grandson that he lost
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: the same time he lost his daughter. Which had to
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: be weird, because at least he knew what happened to
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: the daughter. And then the grandson disappeared. Like abduction of
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: some sort, but you never even find the body. So
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: who knows what the hell happened to Peter? And I
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: assume the woman that answered the door was.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: I don't know, but I thought they... credited to her
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: like she was the wife, maybe. Well, so that's the thing.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: They didn't make it clear because she's way younger than
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: he is. So at first I thought it was like
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: a nurse or something. Yeah, a home care person or
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: something like that. So I didn't think... Originally, but then
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: later I was like, I don't know, maybe not. Maybe
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: he just scored him a young wife.
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: I don't know. He got him a hot young wife.
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: I mean, she's a nice living lady, but it's like, shit.
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: It's like, you're robbing the cradle, sir.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: Uh, but yeah, but you know, so we get Peter
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: reunited with his grandfather. So we get that nice little bit,
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: our secondary end credit scene here. We got to wait
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: all the way to the end credits and Pete's at
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: the breakfast table with his grandfather. They're talking about a
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: neighbor who's got a good for nothing son. You know,
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: basically he sits on the porch all day and watches
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: his grandfather or watches his own elderly father mow the
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: lawn and he doesn't do it. I love it. But
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: then we get the little tease there that the legendary
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: star Lord will return.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: You skipped over the best part, which is the newspaper
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: that talks about the abduction of Kevin Bacon.
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: That's right. That's the best part. I missed that. Yes.
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: I was just like, okay, that's the best tie-in joke
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: right there. Yeah.
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: Because, yeah, I mean, I'd listen to Kevin Bacon talk
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: about being abducted by aliens.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: That's the kind of thing that would be in our
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: weekly world news that I'm reading every day.
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: But see, here's the funny thing, though, is that we've
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: heard different celebrities talk about being abducted by aliens, and
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: we kind of We blow it off. That could be
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: in the paper and we'd be like, another one of
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: those crazy. I've heard Sandy Hagar numerous times talk about
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: how he was abducted by aliens as a young man.
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: It's just funny for us because we were there for
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: that journey. We saw the whole little trip. We did.
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: That was a fun little time. The viewing audience believes
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: Kevin Bacon. But then, yes, back to the.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: Big message, which, again, if I was like anyone else
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: on there, I'd be like, yay, the return of Rocket
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: and the team and.
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: Or we can go follow Mantis around and see what
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: she's like. Anybody else.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: Stay with the, like I said, stay with the town.
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: I want to see Drax, you know, talking to the
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: kids all day. But, like, the only one I'm like, really?
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: Star Wars?
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: Like, why do I want to watch him eat cereal
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: in his future?
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing. I was like, what are they doing?
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: Of course, this kind of was almost like a two-fold
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: sort of thing. Because, for one, this answers, because Chris
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: Pratt was the one of the actors who was like,
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: The most publicly on the fence about, is this the
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: last run? And you can go. Which is why it's annoying. Oh, well,
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: this is where we're going to be, right? Yeah, because
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: like Zoe Saldana has said, like, she almost kind of
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: went into this third film bittersweet. Because she had a
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: little bit of like, I was kind of done with it.
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: What happened to James Gunn? I killed myself off for
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: a reason.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: That, but also James Gunn initially getting fired by Marvel,
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: then rehired. I know, yeah, Drax Batista was like, not
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: going to come back.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: He's like, let me out of my contract if you
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: don't have James Gunn running the show.
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and Zoe Saldana was very much in the same
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: kind of camp too. But I mean, Dave Batista's gone
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: on record as basically saying, Guardians of the Galaxy is
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: launched my career drax started my career as an actor
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: so i've done other movies other stuff yeah so it's
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: like i will forever love this character so but we
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: knew he was hanging drax up for a while i
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: mean will he return to the role.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Possibly again i feel like you can convince any of
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: them you know they'll give it a few years they
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: might be back maybe their career doesn't go the same
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: way they need to come back who knows like there's
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: tons of reasons you could turn around and Why.
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: Don't you just throw a lot of money at them?
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: They'll be like, all right, I'll do a 15-minute thing. Like,
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: show up for whatever cameo. Yeah, I mean, right now,
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: Batista's doing good. He's in, you know, playing bad guys
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: in Bond movies and Blade Runner and Knock at the
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: Door and Glass Onion. He's got a bunch of stuff.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: He's doing good. Yeah, he's all right. Yeah. But so
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: there's kind of this answer to the question, like, will
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: we ever see Chris Pratt in the role again? The
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: answer is yes, apparently. The other thing is that the
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: legendary Star-Lord, that particular run, is when Peter is marooned
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: on Earth. So it's basically Star-Lord without the other Guardians,
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: and he has adventures on Earth. Star-Lord-y adventures or a
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: regular guy adventure? Star-Lord-y adventures.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: Because I found that it would at least be more
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: interesting to see him dealing with mowing the lawn issues.
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: Because we've seen him be a goofball in space. It
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: would be kind of more fun to be like, all right,
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: now you're stuck here.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: You don't have any super out-of-this-world powers, so I don't know.
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: Just deal with eating cereal and mowing the lawn. Well,
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: aside from being half a god. He's a half a god. Yeah,
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: half a god sort of thing. Yeah, he doesn't have
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: any physical exerted powers, but basically he's known for his
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: different suits and flying devices and then guns. That's what
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: I'm saying. If you take all those away, he's just
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: a guy mowing the lawn. So I'm interested, like, where
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: are they going with this? Yeah, they got a lot
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: of places they could pop up and do with him
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: of basically having some adventures on Earth where he's not
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: in space and kind of learning what the world is
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: like now when he left the 80s. Do you think
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: this is like a limited series Disney Plus or more movies?
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: I feel like it would work better more as a series.
- 1:40:55Speaker 3: I do too. I think you'd flesh out more as
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: a series. But also this could be a way to...
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: signifying the fact that basically we've got a couple Avengers
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: movies coming up here in a couple of years. He
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: may pop up in one of those.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: Like, everything goes to hell like they're going to because
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: it's the whole reason of having these two movies. And
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: we need everybody we can get together, so let's call
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Star-Lord out of retirement.
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: And he puts the suit on and comes and busts
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: out the guns. And then, of course, the first two
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: of the movies is the Kang Dynasty. The second one
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: is Secret Wars. Secret Wars basically... deals with basically, if
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: they're sticking with the storyline, even though we're not going
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: to have Dr. Doom with it, is that basically there
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: is a multiversal threat going on where we have all
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: these incursions. Earth is the last one to go. Dr.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: Doom saves Earth from being destroyed by these incursions. But
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: what happens is what is assembled is a patchwork Earth
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: made up of multiversal Earths. So it's kind of like,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: you know, It's kind of like when you would go
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: to the soda fountain and get the suicide where you
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: got all the flavors of soda in one cup. That's
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: what our earth is. It's a suicide earth here. So...
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: And so we get all these different versions of characters
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: we know, but it's not our version. So will we
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: see a different Star-Lord than that? Possibly. Again, they've given
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: themselves a way to continue it and an out to
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: do whatever the hell they want all at.
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: The same time.
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: Exactly. And it also answers your question. It answers your question, like,
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: is Chris Pratt 100% down to roll? No, he's not.
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: Do we want to see him in other stuff?
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: Eh.
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: How much Jurassic Worlds can we take?
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: I think we've seen enough of them there, too. So
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: let's Let's retire a lot of Chris Pratt. We get
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: maybe too much of him for a while. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: they're going to take a break from him, obviously. Like you,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: I would also like to see the other Guardians team
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: do some stuff.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I would much rather see any of those other teams.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: They're all kind of way more interesting characters, and even
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: as we left them, they're all.
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: kind of going different places that I'd like to follow.
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: So I'd pick up with any of them. And it's
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: an even stranger team, because you've got Rocket, who's leading them.
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: Groot's still there, so you've got a little bit of muscle.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: You've got Adam Warlock, who's major muscle, but he's also
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: learning how things work. You have a literal child on
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: the team. And then you have a former Ravager, who
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: just recently figured out how to work the weapon that
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: was passed down to him. So you've got a very interesting...
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: much more ragtag band of misfits than you even had
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: with the original Guardians. Yeah. See, again, I want to
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: watch those adventures. Yeah, yeah. With them, I want a
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: good series.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: Let me watch the different, every episode, they go to
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: a different planet, solve a different thing.
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: Like, I'd be all for that. Yeah, I'd be down
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: with that. But, yeah, I've seen a lot of, you know,
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: really good reviews for this film and basically people saying, oh, yeah,
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: this is definitely one of the better films of this phase.
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: And I would agree. What strikes me is that people
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: who don't have a reaction like oh this is a
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: really solid film or just kind of like they kind
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: of was like yeah i'm like what is.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: Wrong with you what i noticed in the real world
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: was coming i once i got up and left the
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: theater and looked around i was.
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: Like these are all like parents.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: Like my parents like it was like not a bunch
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: of dorky like white guys it was.
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: Like grown up old parents and different women.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: And like, again, there was like a several like women
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: in like their sixties that were even in front of me.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: And the couple next to me was like, just not
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: your normal, like comic book people.
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: I was just like, this pulled in a lot of
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: different people.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's just because everybody eventually
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: got around to seeing like the Avengers.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: And like, so like there was enough tie in, like,
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: I guess maybe they saw the first two. I don't know.
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: It was like not your normal comic book movie crowd.
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: So I was just like, It's interesting that the crossover
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: that this, of all of them, the most spacey, you know,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: you would think they would at least be like.
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: Oh, like Captain America.
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: I know what that is.
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: Like, you could go into that a little easier.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: Where this one, especially once you get to the crazy
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: biological world, I'm like, what is Grandma over here thinking?
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: Right, yeah. So, I don't know. But it pulled in
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: a full.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: House and it was a lot of different types of
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: evil that I didn't expect, which is good.
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: But also, like, strange that this of all of them,
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: so I don't know if it's just.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: again, like Sean Gunn makes it more fun.
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: And then like, it's easier to just.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Kind of watch these one-off as opposed to watching 32
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: other movies.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: Like, I don't know, but. Well, that's the, that's the
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: beautiful thing about these Marvel films and series becoming as
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: popular as they are. They are able to spread to
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: a completely general audience who wouldn't be touched by this stuff.
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: So in, in my experience, talking with a lot of
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: different folks and just meeting people and whatever else, um,
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: Within a few minutes of a conversation, you're going to
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: know a big thing about me is basically I love
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: comic books, especially Marvel stuff. I don't know what I'm
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: talking about. So I love talking to people when basically
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: I found out, oh, you have interest in this stuff here,
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: and I'm going to talk to you, see how big
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: your interest is. It's like, oh, yeah, those are good movies.
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: I watch those. Or you really get into them, and
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: you now are in the presence of a, I don't
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: want to go on more, but an expert in And
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: you have questions or you want things clarified for you
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: or else. And so I love those conversations. So I've
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: talked to people who are literal grandmothers who are way
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: into this shit who have never read a comic book.
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: Or they maybe read some Archie and, you know, Bugs
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: Bunny comics when they were a child. But they are
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: into superhero stuff. It's a crossover in weird ways that
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: you wouldn't have expected. And again, I guess it's just
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: because it's so huge.
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: But, again, maybe these, because they, from the beginning, were like, oh,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: this is a totally different tone than those other ones.
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: Like, we're doing a different thing.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: So maybe they're just more attracted to the Guardians series
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: because they're more fun.
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: So, I don't know. But, yeah, it's definitely pulled in
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: an eclectic crowd. Well, I think the Guardians, James has
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: done some, made a great achievement of basically taking an
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: obscure team filled with very obscure characters. And making them
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: household names. Yeah. Like, if you would have told me
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: ten years ago that, you know, people would be walking
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: around saying, I am Groot. Like, really?
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: And that one crossed over kid lies. Like, there are
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: people that are talking about, like, kids.
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: Freak out for Groot, you know? Yeah. And that wouldn't
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: necessarily be the case.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: Even watching that first movie, it's like, I guess you
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: get baby Groot and it changed things.
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: And especially now he has his own show.
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: So it's like, it crossed over, so there's like, you're
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: pulling in this group, you're also pulling in the grandparents.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: So it's like, you've got the whole spectrum of audience members.
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: Basically, the moment everybody falls in love with Groot in
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: the original Guardians of the Galaxy was towards the end
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: of the film, where they're basically fighting a bunch of guys,
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: and Groot has the moment where he basically extends his
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: arm and impales five or six dudes, smacking them around
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: the walls, and then he turns around and says, hey,
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: you know what I mean? That moment cracks my wife
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: up every time. And that's the moment people fell in
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: love with Groot. Because it's like, he looks like this strange,
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: very intimidating thing. But he's a little buddy. He's a
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: goofy kid. He's a goofy kid. Yeah.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: So we get that for real because he becomes a
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: kid as the next two movies.
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: We're just now getting to him being a grown up
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: kind of again by the end when.
- 1:48:18Speaker 3: He's like super massive giant version of Groot swole Groot
- 1:48:22Speaker 3: yeah well I mean the very end when he's like
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: king Groot oh yeah when he goes.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: Kaiju yeah he's like huge by the post credit scene
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: he's like the rock behind him you're like oh shit
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: that's Groot.
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: Like yeah I love it that was huge yeah I
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: love that thing we get kaiju Groot kaiju don't go
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: kaiju don't go kaiju But, yeah, we get all kinds
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: of moments in there. But I think that's kind of
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: just the beauty with the Guardians is that, you know,
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: we've grown up with this group. The large majority of
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: the viewing audience didn't know who any of these characters were.
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: So you kind of learned who they were, fell in
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: love with them, picked your favorites, whatever else. But also
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: the soundtracks work for a great nostalgia thing. You've got
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: a bunch of songs that had lost their popularity. We're
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: not known by a general younger audience who now know
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: these songs. Yeah, definitely from those first two. But that's
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: what I was eventually going to get to, too, is like,
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: because now we have.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: The Zoom, so we can work in new, you know, eras.
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: So we go all the way up to the 2000s and.
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: I think it is an.
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: Interesting, they're pulling from different times because it was all
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: kind of that same, well, it had to be because
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: of the cassette tape, but still he was picking just weird,
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: like people knew him, but not like the hits, you know,
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: it was just stuff on radio rock all the time
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: that you're like, I know that song. Wait, who does
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: that song? It was that kind of thing. And then
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: now he sort of does that, but with like other
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: stuff from different decades there. And I think the best
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: tie in as we're moving into the 90s, was they
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: also get into the Intel bunny suits thing.
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: The first time I saw it in the trailer, I
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: was like, oh, God, here we go. Again, visually, it's amazing,
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: but at.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: The same time, it was just like, what a weird
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: pull that only a handful of people of that era
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: are going to see that and have that recognition of, like, oh, yeah,
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: remember when those commercials were on constantly?
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I was thinking of the Intel, I was thinking
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: of the Teletubbies, and then there's, what's that video game
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: that kids play, like, the tiny little robots?
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: Yeah, they reference that, too, and I didn't know it,
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: because I'm not that, I missed that wave.
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: I was the Intel wave, obviously. Yeah, but yeah, the
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: tiny little robots, and everybody's, like, got different color spacesuits
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: and whatnot, but I can't remember what it's called, but yeah,
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: those images, I mean, because everybody's got, like, different suits,
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: and I love that, too, like, They're hiding the suits,
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: and they basically launch the suits out of the airlock. Which, again,
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: blaming Mantis. Like, she's just doing what they needed to
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: do in the moment. She didn't know that was what
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: it was for.
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: A little just hostile. Yeah, the trash shooter or whatever else.
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: They're watching the suits fly by. Yeah, that was great stuff, dude. But, yeah, so, yeah,
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: we get a 90s-heavy soundtrack, and then basically Rocket has
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: the Zoom now, because that was a great thing, too,
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: is that Basically, the reason why Peter almost dies is
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: to give the Zune four rockets. It's nice when it's
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: four rockets. Initially, I'm just like, once again, Peter, you're
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: an idiot. Don't go back for the Zune. You can
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: go get another Zune. It will be harder to find.
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: You'll have to go back in time. But, yeah, I
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: was just like, really? You're going to kill yourself over
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: the Zune? You would think, like, okay, it's like, you know,
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: we're finding all these, like, ancient technologies, but it's like,
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: There are supercomputers and AIs in this world. Like, couldn't
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: they just like download every song in existence from that?
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: Couldn't we get it like that dude with the thing
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: in his head and like you could just access him
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: all right in the brain and have it hardwired into
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: the side.
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: Of your head? And I like that guy. I kept going, wait,
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: I know him. Oh, yeah. Superstore. Yeah. He was awesome
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: on Superstore. Yeah, he was. He was a jerk in
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: this movie. So it is fun the way they take
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: him out. I was like, oh, this is not going
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: to go well for you. Nope, there it goes. Yep.
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: But yeah, get one of those nice implants in your head.
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: You can just download all your music. But you would
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: be the only one to be able to, unless you
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: have an external speaker. Or you just open your mouth
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: and people can hear the music. Which I do, right? Again,
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: they made a point of how much they don't just
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: work it in as a soundtrack. That the characters themselves
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: are listening to these songs. And have favorites. Yeah, so
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: I mean... like Rocket has.
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: It paired with the speakers in the town so like
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: everybody's enjoying that and number one I do like Creep
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: like I've loved Creep from the first time I heard
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: it but like in this crowd, like, you know, the
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: entirety of the Downer lyrics are perfect for this group
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: of broken-ass people.
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: But the thing is, to come off of, like, okay,
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: so we see this, like, flash of Rocket's origin, and
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: then we go to the present day, and we're seeing Rocket,
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: you know, all forlorn, and then he brings Creep on, like,
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: holy shit, are we trying to kill the audience? We
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: have boosted Creep. Let's bring in even more. Yeah, even sadder.
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: Even more low-key.
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: We don't even have the cool, like, oh, really loud
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: guitar that kicks in acoustic is just downer.
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: All the way through and i'm a weirdo and everybody.
- 1:53:08Speaker 19: Around me is a freaking weirdo this whole town is
- 1:53:11Speaker 19: a bunch of weirdos and so i like that as
- 1:53:13Speaker 19: a tie-in but then as we go forward again i don't.
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: Know if it's just something with this time that we're
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: in but you need a good way to wrap up
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: your sci-fi.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Movie is to kick in with some beastie boys How
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: many times have we seen it?
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: We've seen it like twice in Star Trek. And now
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: this movie. I was just like, man, people love the
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: Beastie Boys. And rightfully so. They are awesome, but... What a.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: Weird tie-in for sci-fi that has become a thing now.
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: And, of course, Intergalactic was used in the Marvel trailer.
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: In the Marvels, yeah. Which I love the bit of
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: trolling that they do, too. Because, you know, they incorporate
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: the first line of the song with a, don't you
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: tell me to smile. And so it's like, oh, that
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: was all the bullshit they were going with. That's the
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: whole theme of Captain Marvel, yeah. And it's like, oh,
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: why don't you smile a little bit? Because she's fucking
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: Carol Danvers. She's not a smiley person. She's a business lady.
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: She's military. And in the real world, everybody's pissed at
- 1:54:11Speaker 3: this woman anyway.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Like, I'm kind of surprised they suckered her back for
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: another movie.
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: She took a lot of heat off of that. And
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: I don't know why.
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: Because it's a bunch of dorky boys that don't come
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: to terms with the fact it's okay for her to
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: be a girl and be in a superhero movie.
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: I just don't like that she's all powerful. But other
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: than that, I have no problem with her as a character.
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: She's just the Superman of this bunch, which makes me
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: not like her. I mean, again, I know her character.
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: And so I was fine with her and I was
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: fine with the performance. Carol's not, you know, she's a
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: good person. She does the right thing, but I wouldn't
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: qualify her as being warm and fuzzy. Yeah.
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: Well, and I, as it's going on, it's like, I
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: still like the property because Rambo seems pretty awesome.
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: And then I really like our, our Ms. Marvel.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: Like I was so, I played the trailer. I was like,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: I'm so glad she's as featured as she is in this.
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: Cause it's like, I enjoyed that series so much. And
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: then like, I'm going to like her more than Captain Marvel.
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: So she's way cooler than you. Well, I think too, you.
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: Know, Kamala is definitely going to soften up Carol a
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: bit too. Yeah. Which is good. Like, She's very detached
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: in that whole movie. So it's like she kind of
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: needs something to.
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: Make her more accessible to the characters themselves and the audience.
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: So I think that will be handy moving forward to
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: maybe make people like her a little more. Because she's
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: maybe the least liked of all the Marvel characters. I
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: don't know what it is, but nobody took to her, really.
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: What I think, too, it has a lot to do
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: with the fact that basically Carol kind of comes off
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: as elitist, but you have to think. It's like, She
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: was Air Force, and then she was abducted by aliens
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: after she had been given this power from the flight accident. Yeah.
- 1:56:01Speaker 3: So she's super powerful, abducted by aliens, put in another
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: elite force in an alien world, in an alien environment,
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: where she's not away from Earth for 20 years. So
- 1:56:13Speaker 3: it's like, what do you expect out of her? She
- 1:56:16Speaker 3: doesn't know what it's like to be humans. She doesn't
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: really have normal relationships, does she?
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: It's like she's been out doing shit literally in the universe.
- 1:56:26Speaker 3: She has a greater universal awareness than even the Avengers do.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: Because she makes the point in Endgame. We're like, yeah,
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: we could use you for this shit. Well, guess what?
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: Not everybody has the Avengers dipshit.
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: The universe doesn't revolve around Earth, actually.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:56:41Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: As previously thought for a long time ago. Yeah, actually,
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: there's other shit going on out there, and nobody else
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: is fixing it. The Earth has you guys. I'm the
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: only one out there doing everything else. It almost seems
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: like that line, too, was for all the social media trolls.
- 1:56:57Speaker 3: It doesn't revolve around you. I like that occasionally they
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: cross over with a little bit. Hey, guess what? It's
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: not all about you, so get over yourself. So I'm
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: on Team Bree, so trolls, go F yourself, and leave
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: my girl alone. I'm just waiting for Ms. Marvel to
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: take over. I'm not sure what they're doing with this plot.
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: Watching that trailer, I was like, there's a lot of
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: body swapping and place swappings, and it's going to be
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: interesting to then take that and be able to come
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: up with a good story to build all this around.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: But I'm looking forward to it, again, mostly because I
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: like Ms.
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: Marvel. Well, and I'm kind of waiting for Kamala to
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: catch up to who she is in the comics, because
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: right now she's still very juvenile and still very new.
- 1:57:34Speaker 3: Which is my favorite part. Like, it was such a
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: high school story, and like a small stakes story of
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: just her and her friends. And like, that was mostly
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: wasn't universe changing where now she's been thrown into the
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: middle of that. So I kind of love that as
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: the series, because it's one of the few times we
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: get something that's just a personal story about her and
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: learning to use her powers.
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: And like, so now again, she's thrown into the universe
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: and has to fight, you know, to save the world
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: or whatever.
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: But I think that it's going to do wonders for
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: her character because in the comic how she was introduced
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: in Captain Marvel is, of course, she's a fangirl and
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: kind of ends up, you know, getting powers and so
- 1:58:13Speaker 3: Carol has to kind of like mentor her and help
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: her out and whatever else. So because of her interaction
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: with Carol, Kamala becomes a hell of a leader. Yeah.
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: And to a point where basically like, you know, when
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: she grows into an adult, she's going to be one
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: hell of a hero. You know, so already at a
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: young age, she's kind of leading around her counterparts of
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: her age, like, you know, Miles Morales and Ironheart and
- 1:58:37Speaker 3: whatever else. Yeah. Yeah, they're all, you know, the Young
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: Avengers are all in her age group. So, yeah, she's
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: a hell of a leader now. So she's going to
- 1:58:45Speaker 3: be even greater then. So I'm looking forward to seeing
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: that journey possibly in this upcoming Marvels movie. Yeah. And,
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: of course, we get to flesh out Monica Rambeau because
- 1:58:55Speaker 3: we enjoyed her in WandaVision.
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: Yeah, WandaVision's the best we've gotten from her character-wise. So, yeah,
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: we'll give it a chance to expand a little on her, too.
- 1:59:04Speaker 3: It'll be interesting to see how they're going to tie
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: in how all three of these characters are related. Because
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: in the comics, they're not related in the only way
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: there are is by legacy. Because, you know, Carol Danvers...
- 1:59:18Speaker 3: You know, is the.
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: They're passing the torch every time, not all there at
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: the same time.
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Carol had the more interesting journey because, basically,
- 1:59:26Speaker 3: she was kind of the sidekick of the original Captain Marvel,
- 1:59:30Speaker 3: and she took the name Ms. Marvel, and so she
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: took that moniker for a number of years, and then
- 1:59:35Speaker 3: when Mar-Vell died, she was expected to take the Captain
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: Marvel moniker, and she didn't. She instead would take monikers
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: like Warbird or Binary when she basically had these, like, weird, like,
- 1:59:47Speaker 3: her powers had this weird flare-up point where she looked
- 1:59:51Speaker 3: like she was basically, like, literally crackling with cosmic energy
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: where she didn't even look human. And that was a
- 1:59:56Speaker 3: brief period in the 90s. But yeah, so anyway, so
- 1:59:59Speaker 3: then finally in the early 2000s, in the Kelly Sue
- 2:00:02Speaker 3: DeConnick run, she takes finally the mantle of Captain Marvel,
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: whereas Monica Rambeau in the 80s was a different Captain Marvel.
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: She had different power sets, but she took the moniker
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: with Carol's blessing. And then Ms. Marvel, Kamala hasn't taken
- 2:00:19Speaker 3: the Captain Marvel role just yet, but she's now Ms. Marvel. Obviously,
- 2:00:22Speaker 3: that's where she's going. But she's going to go there
- 2:00:24Speaker 3: in one way, shape, or form.
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:00:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:00:26Speaker 3: So, yeah, I'm going to be interested to see how
- 2:00:27Speaker 3: they will tie in all three of them together. So, yeah,
- 2:00:30Speaker 3: as they wrap up to this movie, that's where we're
- 2:00:33Speaker 3: going next. Yeah. Well, we know at least that's the
- 2:00:37Speaker 3: next step in this crazy journey. And then where we're
- 2:00:39Speaker 3: going from there remains to be seen. Nobody's really sure.
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: I mean, because, of course, we've got to wait until
- 2:00:44Speaker 3: November for the Marvels, but it's like, We should have
- 2:00:47Speaker 3: had Secret Invasion in the spring, and it's been pushed
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: back to later in the year. Yeah. Loki... I don't know,
- 2:00:55Speaker 3: because I got a feeling they're holding, because as far
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: as I knew, Loki season two was ready to go. Yeah.
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: That's why in Ant-Man we get the tease. But how
- 2:01:04Speaker 3: much of it revolves around that character? Okay. Yeah. And
- 2:01:07Speaker 3: the answer is a lot. What are they going to
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: do now?
- 2:01:11Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 2:01:11Speaker 3: So I'm curious if they're just, if they're holding off
- 2:01:14Speaker 3: on that series because waiting to see what happens in
- 2:01:16Speaker 3: the real world with Jonathan Majors. because yeah he plays
- 2:01:19Speaker 3: a big role in season two yeah they definitely set
- 2:01:22Speaker 3: that up the first time around and in the end
- 2:01:24Speaker 3: of that movie so yeah so yeah yeah that's trouble
- 2:01:28Speaker 3: so yeah and then of course like we still don't
- 2:01:31Speaker 3: know like I know Echo had some production issues so
- 2:01:34Speaker 3: they were delayed um I think Born Again the Daredevil
- 2:01:38Speaker 3: series is currently being developed or currently they're working on
- 2:01:42Speaker 3: it but it's not running yet um You know, I
- 2:01:46Speaker 3: don't know anything more about Agatha. We keep hearing casting announcements.
- 2:01:50Speaker 3: I'm not even sure what to do with that one. Like,
- 2:01:53Speaker 3: what story are you... Again, you're switching that. Now we're
- 2:01:56Speaker 3: going with the villain-ish. And then, like, what? Oh, I
- 2:01:59Speaker 3: don't know. Like, that one, I just don't know what
- 2:02:00Speaker 3: you're even going to do with it as a story.
- 2:02:02Speaker 3: I'm curious, too. That thing is that Agatha has ridden
- 2:02:05Speaker 3: the line in the comics of hero and villain. And
- 2:02:09Speaker 3: the only reason she's ever been a villain is because
- 2:02:12Speaker 3: the reader is taking from the point of view of Wanda...
- 2:02:15Speaker 3: who we think is a hero. As it turns out,
- 2:02:19Speaker 3: not so much. Anyway, yeah, there's been times in the
- 2:02:21Speaker 3: books we've found out that basically she's very easily corrupted
- 2:02:24Speaker 3: by her powers or by other magical beings or by
- 2:02:28Speaker 3: just her own ambitions and has done some bad things. Basically,
- 2:02:33Speaker 3: one has broken bad about four or five times in
- 2:02:36Speaker 3: her years. Became her thing. So, Agatha, at times where
- 2:02:41Speaker 3: she comes off as a villain, turns out, oh, well,
- 2:02:43Speaker 3: actually she was working for us. So, So she's definitely
- 2:02:46Speaker 3: been a complicated character. So I'm curious to see what
- 2:02:48Speaker 3: they're going to do with that series. If this is
- 2:02:50Speaker 3: kind of her hero's journey. If this is opening up
- 2:02:53Speaker 3: more of the magical realm of things. I don't know.
- 2:02:57Speaker 3: There's a lot of questions. We know we're supposed to
- 2:03:00Speaker 3: get a season two of What If. We know we've
- 2:03:03Speaker 3: got the X-Men 97 series coming up. I figure the
- 2:03:06Speaker 3: What If is the easiest one because it's detached. So...
- 2:03:09Speaker 3: It seems like it should be able to do, though. Yeah,
- 2:03:12Speaker 3: it just takes time to produce. Yeah, animation is a
- 2:03:15Speaker 3: lot more work. Yeah, so aside from the Marvels, what's
- 2:03:19Speaker 3: coming next for Marvel? Definitely a lot of things. When
- 2:03:23Speaker 3: and where? Who knows? Yeah, I guess, was it June 24th,
- 2:03:28Speaker 3: I think, is when Secret Invasion?
- 2:03:29Speaker 6: So, yeah.
- 2:03:30Speaker 3: They're running ads for it a lot, so I'm assuming
- 2:03:32Speaker 3: that one's going to happen. Yeah, they gave it a
- 2:03:36Speaker 3: date on Disney +, like you can turn to the
- 2:03:38Speaker 3: page and see Coming June 24th, so... Yeah. So, I
- 2:03:44Speaker 3: wish reality would stop getting in the way of my fiction, goddammit.
- 2:03:48Speaker 3: If people would quit being assholes. Yes! Stop saying that.
- 2:03:52Speaker 3: If we've learned anything from this story, don't be like
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: Peter and be a jerk.
- 2:03:57Speaker 1: Or.
- 2:03:59Speaker 3: These characters are... But they all turn a corner and
- 2:04:02Speaker 3: eventually realize they're alright. So just stay alright and don't
- 2:04:06Speaker 3: be a jerk in the real world. Exactly. Then we
- 2:04:08Speaker 3: can make things without having to CGI out your face.
- 2:04:10Speaker 3: Just wondering where they're going. Now you can kind of
- 2:04:13Speaker 3: do that technology.
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: What if you take the entire second season and just
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: put somebody else's face on him?
- 2:04:19Speaker 3: As our new actor moving forward anyway.
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: Can we just shoot all out of your face and
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: work it in and then later we'll put you in
- 2:04:25Speaker 1: the movies.
- 2:04:26Speaker 3: How about that? Yeah. Who knows? You can do that now.
- 2:04:29Speaker 2: So.
- 2:04:30Speaker 3: Who knows indeed. But yeah.
- 2:04:32Speaker 2: So.
- 2:04:33Speaker 3: We've got some interesting stuff possibly coming down the line.
- 2:04:36Speaker 3: It doesn't matter when the hell it's coming out. Yeah.
- 2:04:39Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: But at least here we, we.
- 2:04:42Speaker 1: Get another director finishing out their trilogy. So that's become
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: a couple in a row now. So we, We've had
- 2:04:49Speaker 1: another one, and maybe the most successful? I mean, James
- 2:04:52Speaker 1: Gunn is pretty solid all the way through.
- 2:04:55Speaker 3: Yeah, he really is.
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: Definitely at least sort of had a pretty good plan
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: for where he was going and.
- 2:05:00Speaker 3: Stayed true on most of the characters.
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: So, yeah, I'm always impressed with James Gunn, but yeah,
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: he's pretty impressive.
- 2:05:08Speaker 3: I guess the next thing we'll see from Gunn is
- 2:05:10Speaker 3: a Superman movie.
- 2:05:11Speaker 1: Yeah, which I'm more concerned about him moving to the
- 2:05:15Speaker 1: DC side because Most of the DC stuff I don't
- 2:05:18Speaker 1: care about as much, and definitely not Superman. But, again,
- 2:05:23Speaker 1: he's done, you know, the Suicide Squad was a good example.
- 2:05:27Speaker 3: It's like, you take something that failed, give it to
- 2:05:29Speaker 3: James Gunn, it's a super fun movie. So it's like,
- 2:05:33Speaker 3: maybe he can do it. And who would have thought
- 2:05:35Speaker 3: Peacemaker would have been as much of a hit? Yeah,
- 2:05:37Speaker 3: I mean, to take a weird character anyway, that's a
- 2:05:39Speaker 3: side character in this movie... And then just take it
- 2:05:43Speaker 3: in a whole new direction and spin it off into
- 2:05:45Speaker 3: your own separate series. Yeah. I mean, I got to
- 2:05:49Speaker 3: give a lot of credit to John Cena and his
- 2:05:50Speaker 3: performance as well. Oh, yeah. But the other thing, too, is,
- 2:05:54Speaker 3: you know, James is very much a music geek. So,
- 2:05:59Speaker 3: you know, he popularized a lot of hits of the
- 2:06:02Speaker 3: 70s and the 80s for his Guardians films. And then
- 2:06:04Speaker 3: kind of, you know, maybe brought back some 90s, you know,
- 2:06:07Speaker 3: songs maybe some younger folks didn't know about or BBB.
- 2:06:10Speaker 3: People forgot, but then you go into the Peacemaker series,
- 2:06:12Speaker 3: and it's my kind of music. The hair metal, or
- 2:06:18Speaker 3: metal that may be newer, but sounds like it's hair metal,
- 2:06:21Speaker 3: kind of stuff like that. Just the whole thing with
- 2:06:24Speaker 3: basically Wigwam resurrecting their career because of Peacemaker. Yeah. Because
- 2:06:29Speaker 3: the story was basically their management dropped them a week
- 2:06:33Speaker 3: before the Peacemaker series was going to debut. Yeah. And
- 2:06:36Speaker 3: then their song, Do You Want to Taste It, is
- 2:06:38Speaker 3: the theme, and everybody is obsessed with that opening.
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: I mean, that kind of works in their favor, because
- 2:06:43Speaker 1: now you can set the new price for being represented
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: by whoever you want.
- 2:06:47Speaker 3: Well, this literally was, basically, by the time the third
- 2:06:51Speaker 3: or fourth episode came out, They had new management, and
- 2:06:55Speaker 3: the album that was finished they'd been sitting on was
- 2:06:58Speaker 3: now ready to be released. So, yeah, Wigwam, bless their hearts,
- 2:07:03Speaker 3: got themselves a bit of a second bump there. I mean,
- 2:07:05Speaker 3: and they've been around, you know, they've worked for Sweden,
- 2:07:07Speaker 3: and they've, you know, had a couple albums. I mean,
- 2:07:10Speaker 3: the album that Do You Want to Taste It, I think,
- 2:07:13Speaker 3: came out like in 2010. Yeah. So it's an old
- 2:07:16Speaker 3: song to them and to fans of Wigwam, but, you know,
- 2:07:19Speaker 3: there you go. Well, that's the way the whole industry
- 2:07:22Speaker 3: works now.
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: There was some other new weird song that on the
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: radio they're playing all the time now.
- 2:07:26Speaker 3: And they were like, yeah, this came out like 12
- 2:07:29Speaker 3: years ago.
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: And it got picked up because it was on specific TikToks.
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: And then kids were like, oh, what is this song?
- 2:07:36Speaker 1: So now basic regular radio that usually only plays brand
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: new stuff is pulling the stuff out and running it
- 2:07:44Speaker 1: because it found a weird second life.
- 2:07:46Speaker 3: Because the new generations don't have any connection. There is no.
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: Specific time and place, or they don't even pull from
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: their own era.
- 2:07:54Speaker 3: Like, their era is anything that's in front of them,
- 2:07:56Speaker 3: because everything is accessible to them.
- 2:07:59Speaker 1: So, like, nothing... follows patterns anymore it's all just whatever
- 2:08:02Speaker 1: happens to take off happens to take off and like.
- 2:08:04Speaker 3: Now the old school guard that runs everything is like
- 2:08:08Speaker 3: shit how do we do this like they're getting caught
- 2:08:11Speaker 3: off guard by all these things that are popular for
- 2:08:13Speaker 3: no reason as far as they know because it's out
- 2:08:15Speaker 3: of the blue because they're not sitting.
- 2:08:17Speaker 1: On tiktok all day so They don't know what the
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: next song is going to be because you can't predict
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: it now.
- 2:08:21Speaker 3: It's not following any trends anymore. You're right.
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08:24Speaker 3: I mean, I've got a nephew who he's 16 now
- 2:08:27Speaker 3: and like his musical tastes run from like 1920s jazz
- 2:08:32Speaker 3: to like goth synth wave.
- 2:08:34Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: I was like, there is no, at least everything before was.
- 2:08:39Speaker 3: Dictated by someone else.
- 2:08:41Speaker 1: It was like, when I was a kid, you listen
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: to the radio and you know, it's like an MTV
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: came along and they picked specific things that became popular.
- 2:08:48Speaker 3: And it was all, we were all in that same timeframe.
- 2:08:50Speaker 3: So like every kid sitting at home is watching the
- 2:08:52Speaker 3: same video premiere at the same time. Nobody does that now.
- 2:08:56Speaker 3: Nobody's in charge now. Now kids are just like, what
- 2:08:58Speaker 3: do I want to listen to? And everything in the
- 2:09:00Speaker 3: world is accessible.
- 2:09:01Speaker 1: And like, so they find their own way, which is
- 2:09:04Speaker 1: awesome on one hand. And at the same time, like,
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: there are no trends. There are no waves of anything.
- 2:09:10Speaker 1: Like nobody follows a click music wise anymore. Like you
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: had all the metal kids and the punk kids.
- 2:09:16Speaker 3: Now every kid's a whatever.
- 2:09:17Speaker 1: So you don't have those little clicks anymore. Like every
- 2:09:22Speaker 1: kid finds their own way. So that's great. But at
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: the same time, it's so foreign to people that came
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: from everybody's a click and.
- 2:09:28Speaker 3: Everything is a wave of this and that. And if
- 2:09:31Speaker 3: doesn't do that. Though I still gotta give it up
- 2:09:33Speaker 3: to the goth and the metal kids, because at least
- 2:09:36Speaker 3: they still follow the dress code. They look the part,
- 2:09:39Speaker 3: but then if you start delving into their musical case, yes,
- 2:09:42Speaker 3: they like the stuff they're still looking about, but then
- 2:09:45Speaker 3: almost like, oh yeah, I'm also a big fan of
- 2:09:46Speaker 3: the Brady Bunch. Yeah, they're totally a mixture of everything now, so.
- 2:09:51Speaker 3: Or like, you know, I was like, you know, Baby
- 2:09:53Speaker 3: Shark was one of my favorite songs growing up as
- 2:09:54Speaker 3: a child, and you know, I look like I should be,
- 2:09:57Speaker 3: you know, back up for the cure, but also like
- 2:10:00Speaker 3: all this.
- 2:10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so.
- 2:10:01Speaker 3: You know, you're right. There are no rules anymore. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:10:04Speaker 3: But yeah, I still get, you know, because part of
- 2:10:06Speaker 3: my job, you know, working at the comic book store
- 2:10:08Speaker 3: is that I do auctions online. And so most of
- 2:10:11Speaker 3: the time I'm playing music and my, you know, my
- 2:10:13Speaker 3: go-to is like 70s through 90s hard rock and metal.
- 2:10:17Speaker 3: So like a Triumph song came on, Never Surrender, right?
- 2:10:20Speaker 3: So I mean, I've known this song for decades.
- 2:10:22Speaker 1: It's one of their.
- 2:10:22Speaker 3: I've got their greatest hits sitting upstairs. And that song
- 2:10:25Speaker 3: is on there, yeah.
- 2:10:26Speaker 1: It is.
- 2:10:26Speaker 6: It is.
- 2:10:27Speaker 3: It's not one of their hugest hits, but it was
- 2:10:29Speaker 3: a big hit. They've got a lot of, like, anthems
- 2:10:31Speaker 3: kind of rock stuff. Like, that's what they did. And
- 2:10:34Speaker 3: so this song's playing, and it gets kind of, like,
- 2:10:36Speaker 3: midway through the song. I got the big solo in there,
- 2:10:38Speaker 3: and one of my people that's in the auction, and he,
- 2:10:42Speaker 3: you know, was a younger guy, and he's like, oh, yeah,
- 2:10:43Speaker 3: what's this song? And so I told him what it was, and, like,
- 2:10:46Speaker 3: I'm thinking, like, okay, he's probably his early 20s. I
- 2:10:48Speaker 3: didn't even ask him for his age, but he's a
- 2:10:50Speaker 3: younger guy. Yeah, yeah. Has not a clue who that is.
- 2:10:53Speaker 3: But it's like, dude, like... Have you never listened to
- 2:10:56Speaker 3: classic rock in your own town where it's like that
- 2:10:58Speaker 3: song is probably on a loop? Probably not. Like, where
- 2:11:02Speaker 3: would you... Exactly.
- 2:11:03Speaker 1: It doesn't get thrown out there now unless you go
- 2:11:06Speaker 1: seek it out. So, like, they have to find their
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: own way essentially now.
- 2:11:10Speaker 3: Like, it's not like.
- 2:11:11Speaker 1: Again, people were, like, curating stuff for you. Not the
- 2:11:14Speaker 1: best version of it. It was usually corporate run stuff.
- 2:11:16Speaker 1: But still, it was like, here's the things that are
- 2:11:19Speaker 1: out right now.
- 2:11:19Speaker 3: You have to listen to all these. And, like, now
- 2:11:22Speaker 3: nobody does that anymore. Yeah, it just fascinates me how...
- 2:11:25Speaker 3: young people find stuff. A popular title now, the Garbage
- 2:11:29Speaker 3: Pail Kids and Madballs have come back in comics to
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: the point where they have a mashup. Garbage Pail Kids
- 2:11:34Speaker 3: have their own book, and then they did a mashup
- 2:11:36Speaker 3: with the Madballs. I've got kids that are under 15,
- 2:11:42Speaker 3: 16 coming in asking for Garbage Pail Kid books. Are
- 2:11:44Speaker 3: you going to be GPK? I'm like, How do you know?
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: That is what it stands for, but I would not
- 2:11:51Speaker 1: expect that from you.
- 2:11:52Speaker 3: Yeah, the first time somebody, some young guy, you know,
- 2:11:55Speaker 3: asked for, you got any GBK books? Like, oh, first-world kids.
- 2:11:59Speaker 17: Like, yes.
- 2:12:00Speaker 3: Like, wait a minute. You sure you don't need this
- 2:12:01Speaker 3: for your dad or your grandpa? Yeah, I wasn't trying
- 2:12:05Speaker 3: to be like a gatekeeper or anything. No, you just
- 2:12:07Speaker 3: don't expect it. I was fascinated, like, how do you
- 2:12:09Speaker 3: know what this 20-year-old property that basically hasn't had anything
- 2:12:13Speaker 3: new produced in decades until now?
- 2:12:16Speaker 1: Well, and it's like that's what I've thought recently with TV, too,
- 2:12:19Speaker 1: because there's like kids will reference whatever, but it's like
- 2:12:22Speaker 1: hit and miss. Because everybody that grew up before, like
- 2:12:25Speaker 1: there was your networks. You had three, maybe four if
- 2:12:28Speaker 1: you went forward in time. But like that was it.
- 2:12:30Speaker 1: Everything that came on, it was a set schedule that
- 2:12:33Speaker 1: somebody else put together. It was all at the same
- 2:12:35Speaker 1: time every week.
- 2:12:35Speaker 3: Yes, I watched it. That was it. Nobody does that now.
- 2:12:38Speaker 3: There isn't. I mean, there is network TV, but nobody
- 2:12:41Speaker 3: cares about it. Nobody appointment watches a damn thing. So
- 2:12:45Speaker 3: there is no version of that anymore. Yeah, I've got basically,
- 2:12:49Speaker 3: in the entirety of shows I watch, there's only one
- 2:12:51Speaker 3: show I have that's appointment television, and it's wrestling. But
- 2:12:55Speaker 3: other than that, it's like nothing else I watch is
- 2:12:58Speaker 3: appointment television anymore. I watch Ghosts every week because I
- 2:13:02Speaker 3: love that show.
- 2:13:03Speaker 1: Also because you can't watch things anymore unless you buy everything.
- 2:13:07Speaker 3: Like even network television.
- 2:13:09Speaker 1: You have to sign up for their special deal and
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: have a streaming version of it.
- 2:13:14Speaker 3: Or even if you watch it on antenna... you can't
- 2:13:18Speaker 3: watch it. If you go online to watch it, you
- 2:13:20Speaker 3: have to put in.
- 2:13:20Speaker 1: Your cable provider and once again prove to them that
- 2:13:23Speaker 1: you're blowing a lot of money to be able to
- 2:13:25Speaker 1: watch an old episode. So now I just have to
- 2:13:27Speaker 1: watch it when it's on or sign up for more
- 2:13:30Speaker 1: services I can't afford.
- 2:13:32Speaker 3: See, that's why I kind of like services like Pluto
- 2:13:36Speaker 3: and Freebie and whatnot or Tubi is another good one.
- 2:13:40Speaker 3: Tubi is great if you want to go down the
- 2:13:43Speaker 3: rabbit hole of obscure or like, you know, old movies,
- 2:13:48Speaker 3: grindhouse kind of stuff, just, you know, movies that have
- 2:13:51Speaker 3: been forgotten by the decades. That's a great place to
- 2:13:55Speaker 3: just discover. They've got pretty good and bigger name stuff,
- 2:13:59Speaker 3: but then there's all those other weird ones.
- 2:14:00Speaker 1: I just downloaded another one on the player thing because
- 2:14:04Speaker 1: there was like, somebody said it was some movie that
- 2:14:06Speaker 1: I was like, it wasn't even like a big studio
- 2:14:08Speaker 1: movie back in the like 50s, 40s. And I was
- 2:14:12Speaker 1: just like, well, it's maybe streaming because nobody's going to
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: care anymore.
- 2:14:16Speaker 3: So if there's a version of it out there, it's
- 2:14:17Speaker 3: probably streaming on a little damned if it wasn't.
- 2:14:20Speaker 1: So I'm like, well, now I'm going to go watch
- 2:14:22Speaker 1: this movie. It's like, there's so many options of that
- 2:14:25Speaker 1: stuff that's just out there and free most of the time.
- 2:14:27Speaker 1: If it's older stuff that people haven't heard of, which
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: is usually the stuff I like finding.
- 2:14:32Speaker 3: Well, I mean, like last episode, we talked about Bronx Warriors.
- 2:14:34Speaker 3: That's on freebie. I've been a big fan of the
- 2:14:37Speaker 3: Quentin Tarantino podcast. A lot of the movies they talk
- 2:14:40Speaker 3: about there, you can get on freebie. You know, you
- 2:14:42Speaker 3: got to watch those commercials from time to time in there.
- 2:14:44Speaker 3: But for the most part, it's free shit. So it's
- 2:14:47Speaker 3: because you've got stuff like that. It's like, you know,
- 2:14:50Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody about Pluto. We watch a
- 2:14:53Speaker 3: lot of it. It's fun. Jump around different channels and
- 2:14:55Speaker 3: all that kind of stuff. And somebody was like, oh, yeah.
- 2:14:58Speaker 3: I was going to get there and watch this little
- 2:15:00Speaker 3: love boat show. I was like, oh, yeah, yeah. That
- 2:15:02Speaker 3: was a big show back in the day. It was like, yes,
- 2:15:05Speaker 3: that was a big deal because that was on Saturday nights.
- 2:15:08Speaker 3: I'm like, really?
- 2:15:09Speaker 13: He's like, yeah.
- 2:15:09Speaker 3: I was like, people actually watch television on Saturday nights
- 2:15:12Speaker 3: because there was a twofer. He had Love Boat and
- 2:15:14Speaker 3: Fantasy Island. And they had never heard of Fantasy Island. Oh, boy.
- 2:15:17Speaker 3: But see, but that's the thing. Again, it's like hit
- 2:15:20Speaker 3: and miss. But there's no Fantasy Island 24-7 channel.
- 2:15:23Speaker 7: No.
- 2:15:23Speaker 3: But there's a 24-7 Love Boat channel. So it's like,
- 2:15:26Speaker 3: so they know, oh, Love Boat exists. Love Boat gets referenced,
- 2:15:29Speaker 3: you know, every now and then in pop culture. And, like,
- 2:15:31Speaker 3: points to MeTV.
- 2:15:32Speaker 1: They do pick up specific stuff and then just run
- 2:15:34Speaker 1: it for as long because there's only half of them are, like,
- 2:15:37Speaker 1: a handful of seasons.
- 2:15:38Speaker 3: So it's like, you're playing it daily. Like, you're through
- 2:15:41Speaker 3: those same shows over and over again.
- 2:15:42Speaker 7: So, yeah.
- 2:15:43Speaker 3: At least i think once a week on love boat
- 2:15:46Speaker 3: because i do see him every once in a while
- 2:15:47Speaker 3: and i'll just go in and be like all.
- 2:15:49Speaker 1: Right let's see who's the stars on this one it's
- 2:15:52Speaker 1: always fun.
- 2:15:53Speaker 3: To see who they roped into stuff because it's always
- 2:15:55Speaker 3: people working on other stuff at the time and it's
- 2:15:57Speaker 3: like here's your chance to play somebody else for 45
- 2:16:01Speaker 3: minutes like or you get like the super love boat
- 2:16:04Speaker 3: episodes where like you have like there's like a lot
- 2:16:06Speaker 3: of like you know, Rue McClanahan was a regular in
- 2:16:09Speaker 3: The Love Boat, or, you know, Dick Van Patten. Fred
- 2:16:12Speaker 3: Ward on this one. Please do. You're like the one
- 2:16:15Speaker 3: that has Rue McClanahan and Fred Ward and Dick Van
- 2:16:18Speaker 3: Patten and so-and-so. As long as Charles shows up, that's
- 2:16:21Speaker 3: all I'm waiting for. Yeah, I mean, you get like,
- 2:16:23Speaker 3: holy shit, it's every guest star was on this one here.
- 2:16:26Speaker 3: Those would be impressive. Yeah, but it's just so fun
- 2:16:29Speaker 3: how you get a younger audience. Because they're cutting the cord,
- 2:16:33Speaker 3: and they're either doing antenna and streaming, or one or
- 2:16:36Speaker 3: the other. And just randomly trying stuff. Yeah. Which, again,
- 2:16:39Speaker 3: you don't have a video store to go stand in,
- 2:16:42Speaker 3: so the new version is scroll through and be like,
- 2:16:44Speaker 3: the hell is Love Boat? And just hit the button,
- 2:16:46Speaker 3: and you're like, this is the cheesiest thing I've ever seen.
- 2:16:49Speaker 3: And you're awake. And maybe you love it, you know?
- 2:16:51Speaker 3: It's like, you can't tell. You gotta wade into the
- 2:16:54Speaker 3: waters and find your thing. I see what you did there.
- 2:16:56Speaker 3: Wade into the waters there. Ah!
- 2:17:00Speaker 1: I saw a picture of Stubing younger he's always looked
- 2:17:04Speaker 1: like that.
- 2:17:05Speaker 3: He's always been bald he's always because he was on
- 2:17:07Speaker 3: again I think it was MeTV was running promos and it's.
- 2:17:10Speaker 1: Him on another show like a black and white show
- 2:17:13Speaker 1: or he might have been in Mayberry or something and
- 2:17:15Speaker 1: like Again, it's like 20 years before, and he's still
- 2:17:18Speaker 1: no hair, looked exactly, I mean, he didn't look old
- 2:17:21Speaker 1: in that one, it was just the hair thing, but
- 2:17:23Speaker 1: he looked exactly the same. I'm like, that guy has
- 2:17:25Speaker 1: been that way for his whole life.
- 2:17:27Speaker 3: There's certain actors you knew as being bald, and it's
- 2:17:31Speaker 3: weird to see them. With hair, or it's also weird
- 2:17:34Speaker 3: to see them in younger roles and they still don't
- 2:17:36Speaker 3: have hair.
- 2:17:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:17:37Speaker 3: Like, James Tolkien's a great example. You know him from
- 2:17:39Speaker 3: the Back to the Future movies, you know, the slapper.
- 2:17:42Speaker 3: He always played like a principal or an authority figure
- 2:17:45Speaker 3: because he was great at that so that dude's never
- 2:17:47Speaker 3: had hair.
- 2:17:48Speaker 13: Jeez didn't that guy ever have hair no no he's
- 2:17:52Speaker 13: never had hair I don't know maybe some childhood pictures
- 2:17:56Speaker 13: but it's like he came out bald and.
- 2:17:58Speaker 3: He stayed that way as far as his professional career
- 2:18:01Speaker 3: goes I've never seen.
- 2:18:02Speaker 1: Him with hair in a film sometimes it's better it's
- 2:18:05Speaker 1: jarring if they look too whoa what is going on
- 2:18:08Speaker 1: here yeah so Yeah.
- 2:18:09Speaker 3: There's nothing worse than getting used to somebody who's bald
- 2:18:11Speaker 3: and they get a hair piece. I'm like, come on. Like,
- 2:18:14Speaker 3: if they're doing, like, the natural hair thing, like the
- 2:18:16Speaker 3: hair replacement, you know, like, that starts a gradual thing
- 2:18:19Speaker 3: so you get used to it over time. But suddenly, like,
- 2:18:21Speaker 3: you know, Johnny was bald and then he shows up
- 2:18:23Speaker 3: and Johnny's got a hair. Like, no, no. I said
- 2:18:27Speaker 3: that recently.
- 2:18:27Speaker 1: I was like, we're missing a whole new generation of bad, like, rugs.
- 2:18:31Speaker 3: You just don't see people wearing bad toupees anymore.
- 2:18:34Speaker 1: You either just shave your head or you go get
- 2:18:36Speaker 1: full-on hair replacement.
- 2:18:38Speaker 3: There's not a lot of middle ground anymore. You still
- 2:18:40Speaker 3: see bad toupees, but these are usually men who are
- 2:18:43Speaker 3: over the age of 60. Yeah, that have been wearing
- 2:18:45Speaker 3: it since there wasn't another option. Right, yeah. It's like
- 2:18:47Speaker 3: they're too cheap to get the other stuff or, you know,
- 2:18:50Speaker 3: they think they look fine. No, sir, you look like
- 2:18:52Speaker 3: you have a rat on your head. And you have
- 2:18:54Speaker 3: two different colors of hair and it's not a hair dye.
- 2:18:58Speaker 3: It's an obvious. Well, we've come full circle on that one. Yeah,
- 2:19:04Speaker 3: we did.
- 2:19:04Speaker 1: Four animals being tortured to.
- 2:19:07Speaker 3: A rat on your head, so it's all come back around.
- 2:19:10Speaker 3: And somehow managed to work the love bone there, too.
- 2:19:13Speaker 3: What the shit?
- 2:19:14Speaker 7: There you go.
- 2:19:16Speaker 1: So, as we escape this craziness, once again, when you're
- 2:19:20Speaker 1: not here talking about this crazy nonsense, tell people where.
- 2:19:23Speaker 3: To find you any other day of the week. You
- 2:19:26Speaker 3: can find me on the Fanatic Forum. I go live
- 2:19:29Speaker 3: Fridays at 7 p.m. Eastern. I'm on Facebook and YouTube
- 2:19:33Speaker 3: if you want to watch me live because there is
- 2:19:34Speaker 3: a video component to the podcast because I'm talking about
- 2:19:37Speaker 3: comics and showing them off usually. Yeah. But if you
- 2:19:40Speaker 3: don't want to watch me, then you can listen to
- 2:19:42Speaker 3: me basically anywhere you can listen to podcasts. So I'm
- 2:19:46Speaker 3: all over the place. Or, you know, hop on Whatnot,
- 2:19:48Speaker 3: follow Clobber and Comics, and I'm on there four days
- 2:19:50Speaker 3: a week selling books. You don't see me, but you
- 2:19:52Speaker 3: hear my voice. Once again, there is no normal stream.
- 2:19:55Speaker 3: You find it yourself. So this is how you find it.
- 2:19:58Speaker 1: You go find him, and then you click on it,
- 2:20:00Speaker 1: and you choose your path and take him along for
- 2:20:02Speaker 1: the ride.
- 2:20:03Speaker 3: Damn right. We'll take you on some geek threads here
- 2:20:07Speaker 3: for sure. All right. Well, we've covered a lot, so
- 2:20:12Speaker 3: we better get that out of line. Yeah. The ship
- 2:20:17Speaker 3: is parked out back. It's over Topica. I mean, granted,
- 2:20:20Speaker 3: I'm not crushing some houses, but somebody now has some
- 2:20:23Speaker 3: extra shade that they didn't have a few minutes ago.
- 2:20:26Speaker 3: Gotta go re-board the boat and get on out. Otherwise,
- 2:20:29Speaker 3: that about does it. We'll see you next time. Take care.
- 2:20:34Speaker 3: Thanks for listening. Later, y'all.
- 2:20:35Speaker 2: Bye.
- 2:20:43Speaker 4: I'm out of here. I lost everything I'll never be
- 2:21:20Speaker 4: I lost everything I taught myself to show the world
- 2:21:27Speaker 4: that I am the one deep inside my heart.
- 2:21:33Speaker 5: I lost everything I can't avoid anything from you You're
- 2:21:55Speaker 5: my platform I'm not the scum to you To the
- 2:22:05Speaker 5: left and out of my head Only powers.
- 2:22:21Speaker 4: I escape.
- 2:22:28Speaker 3: Bye.
- 2:22:30Speaker 4: Bye. Bye.
- 2:22:33Speaker 5: Bye.
- 2:22:55Speaker 4: Now I can't stay free.
- 2:23:26Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you.
- 2:24:27Speaker 1: And then eventually some weird dude who kept jumping like
- 2:24:30Speaker 1: it was a slasher movie.
- 2:24:32Speaker 3: There were two or three times when, like, something would, like,
- 2:24:34Speaker 3: happen to Rocky. He'd be like, hold on. I was
- 2:24:36Speaker 3: just like, dude, are you okay? Like, do you just
- 2:24:39Speaker 3: not get out of the house ever? Which might be
- 2:24:42Speaker 3: the case.
- 2:24:42Speaker 2: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
- 2:24:45Speaker 2: edited by the Auditude Studios, with opening music performed by
