- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Conspiracy The Show with your hosts Adam Todd
- 0:16Speaker 2: Brown and Connor mcspatten. Hey, everybody, welcome to Conspiracy The Show.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm Adam Todd Brown. Welcome to guest host month. Connor
- 0:40Speaker 2: mcspadden is on tour most of April. I'm on tour
- 0:43Speaker 2: in May, so we have to record a bunch of
- 0:44Speaker 2: episodes ahead of time with special guests and today joining me,
- 0:50Speaker 2: Tom Rayman and David Christopher Bell from the Best Bad
- 0:52Speaker 2: Movie Ever podcast on the on Pops Network, and a
- 0:56Speaker 2: whole bunch of other things. Say hi, motherfucker, It's just
- 0:59Speaker 2: the thing.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Shut everything else down.
- 1:03Speaker 1: It's the only that's the only block of time in
- 1:05Speaker 1: which we exist. We only exist in that hour every.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Week, one hour every Tuesday. How are you both doing?
- 1:12Speaker 3: I am well doing.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm excited to have you on because you're both very,
- 1:16Speaker 2: very skeptical people when it comes to stuff like this.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Are there any conspiracy theories either of you believe?
- 1:25Speaker 1: It depends on no, it really, It really depends on
- 1:31Speaker 1: how you're defining conspiracy theory.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But in general, no, okay, not even that the moon
- 1:37Speaker 2: landing was fake. I don't believe them.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Definitely, not definitely not that that was We've we've talked
- 1:41Speaker 1: about the curtain courtney one. Yeah, and I think just done, pops.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Oh, the curtain court like Kurt Kobang was definitely murdered
- 1:49Speaker 2: that much.
- 1:49Speaker 3: That much. Okay, what about MK ultra have you ever
- 1:53Speaker 3: looked into it?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, well that's not that's like confirmed.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Right, That's the thing.
- 1:57Speaker 2: That's what I always point to when people just kind
- 2:00Speaker 2: of across the board shoot down conspiracies.
- 2:02Speaker 1: That's and that's what I meant by like, it depends
- 2:04Speaker 1: on what you're defining as a conspiracy theory. Because mk
- 2:07Speaker 1: ulture happened.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it happened, and up until the point there were
- 2:11Speaker 2: just some files that got put in the wrong place.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Otherwise that forever would have been one family going No,
- 2:19Speaker 2: this thing was huge and it was happening everywhere in
- 2:21Speaker 2: the government going na. We tried it out a little
- 2:24Speaker 2: bit and it didn't work, so we didn't pursue it much.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Because that was like their big sticking point before those
- 2:29Speaker 2: files came out, is people were calling it a massive program,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and the CIA was like, it wasn't.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Massive, all right, it wasn't that big.
- 2:37Speaker 3: And then it was pretty fucking massive.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you're wrong, it was massive. Yeah, it was huge.
- 2:41Speaker 2: So we're talking about the Mandela effect this week, which
- 2:45Speaker 2: this is when I don't really even Yeah, I believe
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'm almost angry at this one.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Well, I don't understand. I don't understand what the theory is.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think the Mandela effect is like a cool so
- 2:56Speaker 1: from a sociological standpoint when you're thinking about it as
- 2:59Speaker 1: like memory and collective memory and the fallibility of memory. Like,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I think it's a really interesting thing to look at
- 3:05Speaker 1: and read about, But I don't understand what the conspiracy
- 3:08Speaker 1: portion of it is about.
- 3:09Speaker 2: The conspiracy behind it is that the Mandela effect is
- 3:16Speaker 2: a sign that it's basically a sign that there are
- 3:19Speaker 2: parallel universes that were slipping in.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The Oh no, that's dumb.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Have watched the recent X Files.
- 3:26Speaker 4: There's a recent X Files episode about this, and it
- 3:29Speaker 4: was a delightful episode.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That's exactly the correct place to tackle this subject.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and it was about alternate realities and stuff. It
- 3:38Speaker 4: was a it was a comedic one because.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and the thing is parallel universes and you know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: alternate realities. That's a whole different thing. Like when you
- 3:50Speaker 2: get into debating whether that's real. Then you're talking to
- 3:53Speaker 2: like physicists and things like that. But that scene, that's
- 3:58Speaker 2: a different argument.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and like that, like the multiverse stuff where it's like, yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: that could be true. I don't know.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I don't be true.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I just don't know that misremembering a Shack movie from
- 4:10Speaker 2: the nineties right necessarily proof that the thing is it is.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Two different conversations because I don't not believe in the
- 4:16Speaker 4: idea of alternate universes or right infinite possibilities all that crap.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I don't think. Yeah, I don't think the Mandela effect
- 4:24Speaker 4: is that. I think it's just do not remembering shit.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I don't think the fact that stupid racists on the
- 4:30Speaker 1: internet can't tell the difference between Sinbad and Shack it's
- 4:33Speaker 1: a sign that there's which of all the people reality is.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Sinbad has red hair, for fuck's sake. Can you imagine
- 4:41Speaker 2: if Shaq had red hair?
- 4:43Speaker 1: Oh? Man, you don't want to what a treat? Yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 1: those are two wildly different gentlemen.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, this If anyone's unfamiliar the Mandela effect, it's basically
- 4:53Speaker 2: just a term that was coined in twenty ten actually
- 4:57Speaker 2: to describe the phenomenon of people just kind of misremembering
- 5:02Speaker 2: incidents or facts peace sup culture. Yeah, yeah, just on
- 5:06Speaker 2: a widespread basis. It's a reference to Nelson Mandela, which
- 5:09Speaker 2: is apparently the first of these things that kicked this
- 5:14Speaker 2: theory off. And apparently there is a big segment of
- 5:18Speaker 2: the population that had it in their minds that Nelson
- 5:22Speaker 2: Mandela died in jail in the eighties.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Which he didn't. He was famously did released from prison.
- 5:30Speaker 2: He was very much released about as released from prison
- 5:34Speaker 2: as you can get. He became the president after leaving prison.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Right, And I think like to have that be the
- 5:41Speaker 1: one that the thing is named after already shows that
- 5:45Speaker 1: it's not an altered reality thing, because if it was
- 5:48Speaker 1: two realities bleeding into each other, first of all, wouldn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: we all have the same split memory?
- 5:55Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:55Speaker 2: See, that's that's the thing, don't. I don't know what
- 5:58Speaker 2: it is that people think would be triggering.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I think.
- 6:03Speaker 4: The Internet and how people act on the Internet these days,
- 6:06Speaker 4: because there are people who will continuously tell you that
- 6:09Speaker 4: Obama is a Muslim that's going to destroy the country,
- 6:13Speaker 4: even though that didn't happen, right, And it doesn't matter
- 6:16Speaker 4: what and yeah, Dave like, there's a pattern of people
- 6:20Speaker 4: who will be wrong about something fine like minded people
- 6:23Speaker 4: are also wrong and then refuse to accept that they
- 6:25Speaker 4: were wrong to the point that they now will be willing.
- 6:28Speaker 1: There's a universe. It's like, no, you just got the
- 6:31Speaker 1: facts wrong.
- 6:32Speaker 3: You were misinformed.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Yeah. The Mandela thing.
- 6:36Speaker 2: One thing I did find is in nineteen eighty two,
- 6:40Speaker 2: he was moved to a different prison, so that probably
- 6:43Speaker 2: would have put Mandela and jail in people's minds. And
- 6:48Speaker 2: it was a year after something called the I think
- 6:51Speaker 2: they were called the Sharpsville Riots, which sounds like it
- 6:55Speaker 2: would be somewhere in the south southern part of the
- 6:57Speaker 2: United States, but that was actually south half.
- 7:00Speaker 3: It was a town called.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Sharpsville, I think it was called Sharpsville, and there were
- 7:03Speaker 2: riots there where fourteen people were killed. And then on
- 7:08Speaker 2: the eve of the one year anniversary of that, there
- 7:12Speaker 2: was another big bombing that destroyed a bunch of jail
- 7:16Speaker 2: cells where prisoners like Mandela had been held at one point.
- 7:21Speaker 2: And I wonder if that series of events, which all
- 7:24Speaker 2: happened kind of in close proximity, and then him being
- 7:28Speaker 2: moved to a different prison, I wonder if that's what
- 7:31Speaker 2: put it in people's heads. Maybe died in jail in
- 7:34Speaker 2: the eighties.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I think you're doing a lot of the work for
- 7:36Speaker 1: these people. I think it really comes down to because
- 7:40Speaker 1: the Mandel effect being a weird one to name this
- 7:43Speaker 1: thing after is partially it's weird because of you know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: him one being famously released from prison and also the
- 7:51Speaker 1: whole Free South Africa movement, the apartheid thing that was
- 7:55Speaker 1: that was the plot of Lethal Weapon two, like you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: all of that stuff during this period of history in
- 8:02Speaker 1: the eighties. It's it's all directly related to Nelson Mandela
- 8:06Speaker 1: and his eventual release and then his him becoming president
- 8:10Speaker 1: and everything that. It's like all of that history would
- 8:13Speaker 1: be different, we would have different memories of all of
- 8:15Speaker 1: that history. So I think it's people, not that they
- 8:19Speaker 1: mixed up this fact about him being moved from prisons.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I think it's people mixing up oh, the apartheid, the
- 8:27Speaker 1: apartheid struggle ended because Nelson Mandela was assassinated. Like I
- 8:30Speaker 1: think it's just somebody, yeah, being completely misinformed about what
- 8:35Speaker 1: happened during that piece of history. And even my because
- 8:38Speaker 1: I mean I was a kid when this happens, so
- 8:39Speaker 1: like my memory of this is is fuzzy.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't remember this. Yeah, I mean I remember
- 8:43Speaker 2: I'm older than you two. So I remember him getting
- 8:46Speaker 2: out of prison and that was in the eighties, right,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I think it was eighties, early nineties something like that. Yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 2: and I remember him getting out of prison. I remember
- 8:56Speaker 2: the whole apartheid thing. And yeah, I've never met someone
- 9:00Speaker 2: who has this memory. And my question you kind of
- 9:04Speaker 2: brought it up, would be, well, then what happened in
- 9:06Speaker 2: South Africa after that? Yeah, like do you remember anything
- 9:09Speaker 2: or did South Africa just disappear? Right when Nelson Mandela died?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Like he's related to so he's a central figure in
- 9:18Speaker 1: so much history that it's like we would have so
- 9:22Speaker 1: many different memories of we would have dual memories of
- 9:26Speaker 1: like vast pieces of history, a modern history from this
- 9:29Speaker 1: time period.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yea.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, it's it's weird that that you
- 9:32Speaker 1: name this phenomena after this example of it that assent
- 9:37Speaker 1: like intrinsically disproves the entire idea.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yeah, there's that there's two universe. It's the Mandela effect.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Because it sounds cool, Yeah, like it would be a
- 9:46Speaker 2: great name.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Berenstein.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I believe they're making a movie called The Mandela. Oh
- 9:52Speaker 2: thank god, hurry up and finish.
- 9:55Speaker 1: What has this happened several times already?
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 2: The one it's further down the list, but it kind
- 10:01Speaker 2: of ties to this one is the Tianamen Square guy,
- 10:05Speaker 2: where a lot of people seem to have memories of
- 10:08Speaker 2: him getting run over by it and tank.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I think that's just people who are misinformed.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I think that is people having a memory of seeing
- 10:16Speaker 2: the pick the picture of him standing there, and then
- 10:18Speaker 2: just assuming the next thing that happened is those tanks
- 10:21Speaker 2: must have run him over.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Right, right, which is you know, you watch the video,
- 10:25Speaker 1: it's just the video is great. It's just him moving
- 10:27Speaker 1: to constantly stay in front of the people in the tank.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Don't want to run over yea, Yeah, that would be
- 10:32Speaker 1: pretty gnarly if we did that.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, China's a brutal government, but they're not a publicly
- 10:37Speaker 2: brutal government. Yeah, like they they they're not going to
- 10:40Speaker 2: just massacre a dude with a tank in the town square.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Right, and then the team inside the tank even then,
- 10:46Speaker 1: like even if they're like run that guy over, there's
- 10:48Speaker 1: a couple of dudes inside that tank that might be
- 10:50Speaker 1: like this is a bad look for us, or just
- 10:53Speaker 1: like I don't feel like squishing a dude.
- 10:54Speaker 3: But also like, yeah, how hard is it just to
- 10:56Speaker 3: kind of wait it out?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Or yeah, yeah, So I think the Tianamen square guy
- 11:01Speaker 2: and Nelson Mandela are kind of the same thing, where
- 11:04Speaker 2: people are just it's just miss remembering stuff or remembering
- 11:08Speaker 2: it the Maybe some of these people wanted Mandela to
- 11:10Speaker 2: die in jail.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I think another part of it might be an ego thing,
- 11:13Speaker 1: because this is all recent enough history that people in
- 11:16Speaker 1: our generation remember the incidents happening in their lifetime, so
- 11:21Speaker 1: they feel a certain ownership or something to it where
- 11:23Speaker 1: they're like, well, yeah, no, I remember that, so like
- 11:25Speaker 1: my that makes me an expert. And so like if
- 11:28Speaker 1: they remember it incorrectly and you challenge it they remember
- 11:31Speaker 1: it incorrectly, it'll be like the knee jerk is be
- 11:33Speaker 1: like no, because I was, I was, I remember that,
- 11:35Speaker 1: I remember this on the news, I remember seeing this. Yeah,
- 11:38Speaker 1: so my memory of this is correct.
- 11:40Speaker 2: What about the Berenstein Bears, though, this is this is
- 11:44Speaker 2: a weird one because I don't find this that weird
- 11:46Speaker 2: because I looked it up briefly because I remember Bernstein
- 11:49Speaker 2: Bears I remember seen Bears.
- 11:51Speaker 3: But I do I don't.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I was a pretty together kid when it came to
- 11:55Speaker 2: reading well, and I remember struggling with whether it was
- 11:59Speaker 2: Steen or Stein, and I don't think I would have
- 12:02Speaker 2: seen the name Stain and had that inner crisis.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Well, here's the question I have for you, because this
- 12:09Speaker 4: is what I found when I looked up did.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You watch the cartoons? I did.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Apparently the cartoons pronounced to Bernstein. There's an article about
- 12:17Speaker 4: it that someone was just like, yep, this is why.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, they just looked at the old cartoons, which I
- 12:23Speaker 3: also watched. But it's not spelled that way. I don't
- 12:26Speaker 3: think it's spelled that way.
- 12:27Speaker 2: But I think we had heard it so much that
- 12:29Speaker 2: way Stein Bears, we just you know, there is I
- 12:33Speaker 2: assumed it was spelled that way. There was someone who
- 12:36Speaker 2: posted on Reddit, uh this image. I'll put it on
- 12:40Speaker 2: the website so people can see it. But someone found
- 12:44Speaker 2: a VHS copy of a Berenstein Bears cartoon and the
- 12:50Speaker 2: front label it spelled Berenstain Bears Learn about Strangers.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I bet that's a creepy episode.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but then on the side it says Berenstein.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a miss bears and yeah, that could just
- 13:01Speaker 3: be Yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Like they say, because it's pronounced even when you say
- 13:05Speaker 1: even when you say Berenstein, like when you say, like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: you don't say beren Stain, you say Bearnstein or like Berenstein. Yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 1: so you can say that and it will sound like Berenstein.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And then they I mean even if they then they's
- 13:18Speaker 1: in the like you just said, they decided to pronounce
- 13:19Speaker 1: it Berenstein in the cartoons.
- 13:21Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, we also don't know who was
- 13:24Speaker 2: necessarily producing this video random house.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah that's I mean, that's a misprint. Yeah, Like what
- 13:32Speaker 1: that's not like that's like saying that, like.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Like there would be a lot more examples.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Right, that's like saying that, Like any of the famously
- 13:41Speaker 1: misprinted Star Wars action figures, you know, the ones that
- 13:43Speaker 1: are worth the action figures that are worth the most
- 13:46Speaker 1: money are the ones that are either packaged in the
- 13:48Speaker 1: wrong package or there's a misprint on the package. That's
- 13:50Speaker 1: like saying those are proof of an alternate universe. It's like, no,
- 13:52Speaker 1: those are a proof of a manufacturing fuck up.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Right, Like there is one.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I didn't put it on the list, but there was
- 13:58Speaker 2: c three pos silver leg, yeah, which I don't know
- 14:03Speaker 2: enough about Star Wars to know how that happened, but
- 14:08Speaker 2: I do know in the movie he has a silver leg, right,
- 14:11Speaker 2: I believe so, but I'm pretty sure in the merchandise
- 14:13Speaker 2: he didn't, and in the later films, like if we
- 14:15Speaker 2: looked up the prequels, he probably does.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, he did.
- 14:19Speaker 4: It's just a lower leg and a lot of the shots.
- 14:21Speaker 4: If you look, it's hard to tell it's silver. Yeah,
- 14:24Speaker 4: it looks gold. And I think that's another case. Well,
- 14:28Speaker 4: that's I think another version of this, which is merchandise
- 14:33Speaker 4: or when something gets parody enough it just sort of changes,
- 14:38Speaker 4: like the Luke I am your father line, right, that
- 14:41Speaker 4: was no, I am your father. I get why people
- 14:43Speaker 4: remember it differently because years of parodying it and putting
- 14:47Speaker 4: it in commercials and stuff, they just changed to the culture.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, like Kirk Captain Kirk never says beat me up, Scotty.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Yeah, but people just kept saying it. And I think
- 14:57Speaker 4: it's the same thing with C three, where after a time,
- 15:02Speaker 4: the merchandise and stuff, it was probably they never.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Really, yeah, I never.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I don't remember a silver leg at all, but I've
- 15:09Speaker 2: also only seen I've seen all the Star Wars movies,
- 15:12Speaker 2: but I've seen them all a time or two. But
- 15:15Speaker 2: I did have a ton of the toys as a kid,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and I know C three po didn't have.
- 15:19Speaker 1: No, he didn't. I don't remember having a silver leg
- 15:21Speaker 1: in the movie either.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Apparently he does. There's shots of him. Hmm, it's just
- 15:25Speaker 4: the lower leg.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Let's find it. Yeah, you want to find it. We
- 15:28Speaker 3: have the technology.
- 15:29Speaker 1: See that's just off color goal Like look at his
- 15:33Speaker 1: hand too, like that's just use of the but there
- 15:37Speaker 1: it's silver.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Yeah. I guess I just don't remember.
- 15:40Speaker 2: But the thing haven't hasn't Star Wars been like not
- 15:44Speaker 2: really reshot but they've changed that original edit so much.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Yeah, look up the prequels CEE three po in the
- 15:52Speaker 4: prequels or C three po action figures. I just think
- 15:55Speaker 4: it's not insane that people didn't notice that.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I think it's the same picture.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, So I don't know, like it's some he does,
- 16:03Speaker 1: it's some it's just kind of like a lighter gold.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh got a virus from that picture. Jeez. Yeah,
- 16:09Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Again, every example the Mandel effect, there's either a pretty
- 16:13Speaker 4: logical explanation or it just seems like it's years of
- 16:19Speaker 4: spoofing and parodying. Yeah, like the thing or it just
- 16:22Speaker 4: seems like people were misinformed.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, like that's the kind of collective memory stuff that's interesting.
- 16:27Speaker 1: When we all get to and share, like what we
- 16:28Speaker 1: remember about a certain thing, you get the base basically
- 16:31Speaker 1: the same thing, but like slightly different. Yeah, inversions of it.
- 16:34Speaker 3: What makes us fascinating is the justification.
- 16:37Speaker 1: The justification is baffling, Like this next one, the death
- 16:39Speaker 1: of Billy Graham. Yeah, this is just an an event
- 16:44Speaker 1: of like normally you'd be like, oh, I thought he
- 16:47Speaker 1: was dead, you know, like right, because you just it's
- 16:50Speaker 1: an older person. You just assumed that they died because
- 16:52Speaker 1: they're not really in the news a lot. But we
- 16:54Speaker 1: didn't used to build this bizarre narrative of alternate timelines
- 16:58Speaker 1: around and it's just like, oh, I I was clearly
- 17:01Speaker 1: mistaken because I thought he was dead. And it's people
- 17:03Speaker 1: unwilling to be wrong about a thing.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yeah, my guess is they're confusing the death of Billy Graham,
- 17:10Speaker 2: which just happened in twenty eighteen. Finally with Jerry Falwell,
- 17:14Speaker 2: who died in two thousand and seven, they looked kind
- 17:17Speaker 2: of similar.
- 17:18Speaker 3: They're kind of the same person, the same person. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 3: I didn't really know who Billy Graham was, to be honest.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It's just you get like him, Pat Robertson, Jimmy Swagger,
- 17:29Speaker 1: like he's kind of these guys are all basically the
- 17:31Speaker 1: same guy.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and yeah, I think that's got to just be
- 17:35Speaker 2: people misremembering the fact that Jerry Folwell died. Now some
- 17:40Speaker 2: people claim that they learned in school that the number
- 17:42Speaker 2: of states there were fifty one.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Again, I think those are people who just didn't pay attention.
- 17:46Speaker 1: To those are stupid people, Yeah.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Because I always learned fifty states plus Puerto Rico.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Plus Puerto Rico. That's the only exception.
- 17:53Speaker 2: It's like the sometimes why of states, it's still not
- 17:56Speaker 2: a state.
- 17:56Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, they probably heard that in their brain.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yeah, there's get out of here.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Get The one that is really interesting to me and
- 18:11Speaker 2: also the easiest to shoot down is the song We
- 18:14Speaker 2: Are the Champions by Queen according to the Man. See,
- 18:18Speaker 2: this is where the theory falls apart from me, because
- 18:21Speaker 2: they're being disingenuous here in saying that, Nope, the song
- 18:25Speaker 2: doesn't include the line of the world where if anyone
- 18:29Speaker 2: who's heard we Are the Champions ending uh yeah, well yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 2: well there's a few different points throughout the song where
- 18:39Speaker 2: after he says we are the champions, Freddie Mercury goes oh,
- 18:43Speaker 2: and everyone remembers that from that song. That's why this
- 18:47Speaker 2: one seems so baffling, But all it is. The original
- 18:52Speaker 2: album version of the song does not include the line
- 18:55Speaker 2: of the world anywhere in it, So people are like, see, see,
- 19:00Speaker 2: if we.
- 19:00Speaker 1: All have the version they ever played on the radio.
- 19:02Speaker 2: We all remember it weird, But the version on the
- 19:05Speaker 2: Greatest Hits album, which Queen's Greatest Hits is one of
- 19:08Speaker 2: the biggest albums of all time. Everybody else, that's the
- 19:11Speaker 2: version most people have heard. It's on there, like the
- 19:15Speaker 2: of the World line is and that's all their iconic
- 19:17Speaker 2: live performances of it, he says it.
- 19:19Speaker 1: And that's the only version. I'm gonna go out and
- 19:22Speaker 1: lemon say the only version that was ever the single version,
- 19:25Speaker 1: the radio version, the only version they ever played on
- 19:27Speaker 1: the radio, has that line right.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And for so many articles to bring this up and
- 19:33Speaker 2: then leave that part out.
- 19:35Speaker 1: That's like, that's like saying the Mandela effect exists. Because
- 19:40Speaker 1: the version of California Love we all know is not
- 19:42Speaker 1: the one that's on the album, the Tupac album, exactly
- 19:45Speaker 1: a motherfucker.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Like, Well, it happens with movie trailers a lot too,
- 19:50Speaker 2: where there will be a line that's really famous in
- 19:53Speaker 2: a movie trailer and people remember it from the movie,
- 19:55Speaker 2: but then it gets cut from the movie, so it's
- 19:57Speaker 2: just in the trailer.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah, like the is it the cow? Or there's a
- 20:00Speaker 1: tractor wheel in the Twister trailer that comes up and
- 20:02Speaker 1: hits the camera.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's a bunch of stuff from Pineapple Express,
- 20:07Speaker 2: you know that didn't make the movie.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And I mean this happens a lot because the trailers
- 20:12Speaker 1: are made while the film is still in production, and
- 20:14Speaker 1: some stuff gets cut out of the final version.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And that's one of the things that really turns me
- 20:19Speaker 2: off about this theory is at every step they leave
- 20:23Speaker 2: out well yeah, but it is it's also this it's people.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Being objectively I mean, it's people being intentionally obtuse. Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Yeah, So if we are the champions, thing was bothering anyone?
- 20:34Speaker 2: Rest easy? Yeah, you're correct. Of the world is definitely
- 20:38Speaker 2: a line in that song.
- 20:39Speaker 1: It's it's probably it's it's probably the only version of
- 20:42Speaker 1: the song you have ever heard.
- 20:44Speaker 2: It makes me want to go back and listen to
- 20:46Speaker 2: the album version and just hear what that song sounds
- 20:49Speaker 2: like about that version, because it's like a completely different Yeah,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I don't know, because on the radio.
- 20:57Speaker 1: We Will Rock You leads into the we Are the Champions.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And I don't know if those are two different tracks
- 21:00Speaker 1: on the album or not, because I don't have the
- 21:02Speaker 1: original album.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Yeah, no one has Queen's original albums. You just need
- 21:06Speaker 3: the hits.
- 21:07Speaker 1: So I could see if, like there, if those are
- 21:09Speaker 1: two separate songs on the album and in the single version,
- 21:13Speaker 1: the radio version blends them both together, like that would
- 21:16Speaker 1: make sense why there would be like a different recording
- 21:18Speaker 1: of it. Yeah, I don't know. I would need to.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I'm now I'm really curious to go listen to this
- 21:22Speaker 1: album and see what that what this song is.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I should have cued it up so we could
- 21:26Speaker 2: listen to it on the show, but yeah, I.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Don't know we could.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Let's I wonder if we can find it because I
- 21:33Speaker 2: do want to hear that because he says it the
- 21:38Speaker 2: course to.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Man, No, that's the greatest hits. That's the greatest hits.
- 21:47Speaker 3: So I don't think this version of the song even exists.
- 21:52Speaker 3: These people are trying to fucking be maybe it would.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Be this one. I don't have to say, we'll just
- 22:00Speaker 2: added all that out, sure, sure, but yeah, I'll have
- 22:23Speaker 2: to go back and listen to it. It's that song
- 22:25Speaker 2: seems like it wouldn't even work as well without that line,
- 22:28Speaker 2: because you we're the champions of what fucking beer, pong, darts, cricket.
- 22:35Speaker 1: There's a space for it too, because so those are
- 22:38Speaker 1: the losers because we are the champions.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I think we got it, guys like, yeah, it's in need.
- 22:48Speaker 1: That line opposes the rhythm lyrics.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Point where they had to like confront Freddy Mercury and
- 22:54Speaker 4: be like, but what are we the champions?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Like the the the meter of the lyrics that you're writing,
- 23:00Speaker 1: there's you're there's a space here like you're cutting. There's
- 23:04Speaker 1: like it's you, you're opposing the But.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I could see that conversation happening in him being like
- 23:10Speaker 2: the world, Yeah, say of the world, dude.
- 23:16Speaker 1: A song about my bicycle. Ah.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Queen was all right.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think Queen was a pretty good band with an
- 23:27Speaker 1: incredible front man.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Like he's the reason why that band was ever anything.
- 23:32Speaker 3: I just don't love theatrics in songs.
- 23:35Speaker 1: You don't.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I don't like big productions, and that's fair, that's fair.
- 23:39Speaker 2: It's it just seems like a not a big Rush
- 23:41Speaker 2: fan Broadway thing. No, definitely not a Rush fan. I've tried.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I just can't do it. Have you tried cocaine?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yes?
- 23:51Speaker 3: No, that could be that's problem.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yeah, just everyone who enjoys rush is also a cocaine Yeah, you're.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Gonna do that? Should come with like a little bag
- 24:00Speaker 3: of cocaine. I like that image in my head. I'm
- 24:03Speaker 3: into that. Does that either of you remember the Space
- 24:05Speaker 3: Shuttle Challenger exploding?
- 24:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 24:07Speaker 2: I was in sixth grade, so it was definitely nineteen
- 24:10Speaker 2: eighty six. It was not nineteen eighty four.
- 24:12Speaker 1: That was in Germany. Yeah, so it was later. It
- 24:15Speaker 1: was mid eighties.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I don't know where this one comes from, but some
- 24:19Speaker 2: people just seem to think it happened in eighty four.
- 24:21Speaker 1: You just got your dates wrong.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yeah, regular was re elected in eighty four. This shit
- 24:26Speaker 2: that was that year's tragedy.
- 24:27Speaker 1: No, it was nineteen eighty four. That means it's an
- 24:28Speaker 1: altered timel No, you just remember the dates wrong. Yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 1: give me a fucking break, and are there.
- 24:35Speaker 2: People out there bonding over a two year discrepancy and
- 24:37Speaker 2: when they remember the Challenge exploding.
- 24:40Speaker 1: If you can find show at the do it at
- 24:43Speaker 1: the bare minimum, do the back to the future work,
- 24:46Speaker 1: Like show me a newspaper from nineteen eighty four that says,
- 24:48Speaker 1: holy shit, Challenger explodes.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Yeah, because that's a headline. A lot of people saved. Yeah,
- 24:53Speaker 2: Like there there would be.
- 24:55Speaker 1: That is a famous event in American history.
- 24:58Speaker 2: In your version of the time timeline, there should be
- 25:01Speaker 2: newspapers that will.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Tell us that.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 2: And that's the thing, Like, it can't just be memories
- 25:07Speaker 2: bleeding over from timeline to timeline. That wouldn't because in
- 25:12Speaker 2: the timeline, the Challenger also explodes in that timeline, so
- 25:16Speaker 2: there's gonna.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Be just two years earlier.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Sense.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't put a dent in anything in a
- 25:24Speaker 2: historical any.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Like none of these have even challenged me, like it's uh,
- 25:29Speaker 1: is every example like this?
- 25:31Speaker 3: Well, yeah, that's that's a thing.
- 25:32Speaker 2: That's why this episode is called the Mandela effect explained right,
- 25:36Speaker 2: because there's nothing.
- 25:37Speaker 1: So I mean, I do I do, like I said
- 25:38Speaker 1: at the beginning, I do like this. I think it's
- 25:41Speaker 1: neat from a sociological standpoint, oh yeah, just because it
- 25:44Speaker 1: particularly as we get further and further into in the
- 25:46Speaker 1: information age and the Internet, and then we can all
- 25:48Speaker 1: everything that has ever existed is available for anyone's consumption
- 25:51Speaker 1: at any time, and then we can all get together
- 25:53Speaker 1: and share our ideas and thoughts about things. So the
- 25:57Speaker 1: fact that the pool of our collective memory just can
- 26:00Speaker 1: tenues to grow because we just can access it at
- 26:02Speaker 1: any time, and then you get these weird things where
- 26:05Speaker 1: you have pockets of people are like, no, man, we
- 26:06Speaker 1: all misremembered this thing in the same way. I think
- 26:09Speaker 1: that's interesting. Yeah, you have to identify it as you're
- 26:12Speaker 1: remembering it incorrectly, But it's interesting that we're all remembering
- 26:16Speaker 1: it in the same incorrect way. Why is that?
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's like I I I say the Internet
- 26:24Speaker 2: is part of it because it used to be a
- 26:26Speaker 2: time where I, like, someone might remember that the Challenger
- 26:30Speaker 2: exploded nineteen eighty four, and then everybody around them is
- 26:33Speaker 2: just like, no, that's not true.
- 26:34Speaker 3: But now we can go on a special box and
- 26:36Speaker 3: find all.
- 26:37Speaker 4: The other people who misremembered it, no matter what proximity
- 26:40Speaker 4: they are, and get together yeah and say, okay, look,
- 26:43Speaker 4: this is a thing, and it's like, no, you're just
- 26:45Speaker 4: able to find a more you have a bigger sample
- 26:49Speaker 4: size of people of.
- 26:50Speaker 1: People who got it right. You're taking very interesting data
- 26:54Speaker 1: and interpreting it in the very wrong way.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, I there is if you go on Reddit,
- 27:01Speaker 4: there is a subreddit for like every weird fucking idea
- 27:06Speaker 4: or fetish, Like there's a subreddit devoted to Taylor Swift's armpits.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Sure.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Sure, And it's like that would only exist in the
- 27:15Speaker 4: Internet because it's all these people from everywhere over the
- 27:17Speaker 4: world who found like fifty people who were into that.
- 27:22Speaker 1: There are dozens of us.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and that I feel like that's what a lot
- 27:25Speaker 3: of these are is people who are misinformed about something
- 27:27Speaker 3: very specifically that statistically speaking, you could find other people
- 27:32Speaker 3: like that, which we couldn't before the Internet.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Right, It's not a significant number of people, Like I don't.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Think so, But then I think the media amplifies them.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it turns into a Pilon kind
- 27:46Speaker 2: of thing where it's like, well, I don't belong to
- 27:49Speaker 2: any other club, but I bet I can fit in
- 27:51Speaker 2: with this group of people that think the Challenger exploded.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Two years earlier, Striding Magician who just wanders that will
- 27:59Speaker 1: between alternate times, and it's not a.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Bad thing necessarily.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I'm part of a Facebook group of people who miss
- 28:05Speaker 4: the tomato flavored ramen noodles.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And where the different thing. You're not like insisting that.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Yeah, people just got a date. It's the same idea
- 28:14Speaker 3: of like a community you find people like minded people.
- 28:17Speaker 2: But as much as I'm talking shit, I'm member of
- 28:20Speaker 2: a Facebook group to bring back Converse slides because they
- 28:24Speaker 2: were the best go on flavored en noodles.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I would instantly join a Facebook group to bring back
- 28:30Speaker 1: the Indiana Jones whopper.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Yeah, what was on that?
- 28:34Speaker 1: It was like fried onion, straws, Chipolti Southwest mayonnaise. It
- 28:39Speaker 1: was like a double cheeseburger. It also had bacon on it.
- 28:41Speaker 1: It was just it was the best sandwich I've ever had.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:45Speaker 1: And it was a promotion only for a Crystal Skull.
- 28:49Speaker 3: That movie deserved its own burger.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah it did.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Uh, Jeff Peanut Butter, anyone ever remember that as Jiffy?
- 28:59Speaker 1: I think I remember people calling it Jiffy, but it
- 29:02Speaker 1: was like we never thought it was Jeff. That was
- 29:05Speaker 1: just like a kind of like a nickname. You you
- 29:07Speaker 1: would give it. Yeah, I'm like.
- 29:10Speaker 2: The thing with Jeff is their main competitor is Skippy. Yes,
- 29:13Speaker 2: it's easy to just go jiffy.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And it's like we used to, like, I mean.
- 29:17Speaker 2: And it should be Jiffy, like the name when you
- 29:20Speaker 2: see it, like I feel like the gut reaction is.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Why don't you just call it jiffy? That sounds like
- 29:24Speaker 3: so much more fun.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like fun. Yeah, it sounds like a
- 29:27Speaker 1: good thing for kids. But like you know, I also
- 29:30Speaker 1: went where I grew up in the South, we called
- 29:33Speaker 1: everything every soda coke.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's like but see it's like I'm gonna go,
- 29:39Speaker 1: let's let's have some coke. But you could mean grape
- 29:42Speaker 1: soda or you could mean it was just like the
- 29:44Speaker 1: catch all term for soda.
- 29:46Speaker 3: That is weird.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you wouldn't say, so I want some coke, you know,
- 29:51Speaker 1: it's weird.
- 29:52Speaker 2: I was in a subway once and there was this
- 29:54Speaker 2: basketball tournament in town, so it was packed, and this
- 29:58Speaker 2: guy from New York I could telly was from New
- 30:00Speaker 2: York from his accent and the way he acted comes
- 30:04Speaker 2: up to the counter and goes make me a sub
- 30:08Speaker 2: and I was like, we are at subway. There are
- 30:10Speaker 2: dozens of subs behind my head listed on this menu board,
- 30:14Speaker 2: be more specific. And he just goes, make me a
- 30:17Speaker 2: fucking sub, all right. And I know wherever he's from,
- 30:20Speaker 2: if you say make me a sub, they know exactly
- 30:22Speaker 2: what the fuck you mean. But here, no, are you sure?
- 30:25Speaker 2: Though he might have been a maniac, he might have
- 30:28Speaker 2: just been a crazy person. Yeah, I mean he was
- 30:30Speaker 2: definitely that too.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 2: There's a lot of weird Mandela effect things around food names.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Jiffy peanut butter. People convinced fruit loops used to be
- 30:41Speaker 2: fr u it loops.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Which again, I think it's just you'd assume it's called
- 30:46Speaker 4: fruit loops, you'd assume it's spelled.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's possible these companies might have rebranded it's
- 30:52Speaker 2: possible bit and just changed the name up. Yeah, I
- 30:55Speaker 2: could see fruit turning into froot in the nineties. At
- 30:59Speaker 2: some point, M surprised there aren't x's in it. Yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 2: who knows? You did bring up the Luke I'm your
- 31:06Speaker 2: father thing. That's uh, yeah, I see you have mirror
- 31:08Speaker 2: mirror on the wall.
- 31:09Speaker 1: It's just it's just again, it's just people picking up
- 31:13Speaker 1: when things become in pop culture, like a pop culture thing,
- 31:16Speaker 1: and you get different iterations of it, it shows up
- 31:19Speaker 1: as being parodied.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Like you said, yeah, there's like a sitcom maybe where
- 31:22Speaker 4: two people are fighting and.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Someone says Luke, I am your father, Like I assume.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Yeah, And in that case, that scene's not gonna make
- 31:29Speaker 2: sense if you don't put Luke's name in it. Yeah,
- 31:31Speaker 2: because if you're just doing it, if you're just going no,
- 31:34Speaker 2: I am your father, people are gonna be like, what
- 31:37Speaker 2: what's that from?
- 31:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 31:38Speaker 3: Is that from Star Wars? Yeah?
- 31:40Speaker 2: And yeah, the the thing with the mirror mirror on
- 31:44Speaker 2: the wall, the original translation of that by the brothers
- 31:49Speaker 2: Grim it's mirror Mirror.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And how many different times has that been translated into?
- 31:53Speaker 1: How many different languages?
- 31:54Speaker 2: And that's likely to be the more like as popular
- 31:57Speaker 2: as the movie is, people probably know this the reading
- 32:00Speaker 2: or the book version just as well, at least when
- 32:04Speaker 2: Mirror Mirror started becoming a saying. So I think that
- 32:08Speaker 2: because it's the original translation, it tracks that it would
- 32:11Speaker 2: become Mirror Mirror.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's just people misremembering because again, we didn't
- 32:15Speaker 1: used to have home video or instant access to everything
- 32:19Speaker 1: ever made, so you'd get somebody who saw snow White
- 32:21Speaker 1: one time, you know, right, the only time you could
- 32:24Speaker 1: see it was when it was in the theater, so
- 32:26Speaker 1: you wouldn't be able to. We used to get to
- 32:28Speaker 1: a chance to rewatch movies all the time, which is
- 32:30Speaker 1: why some older movies have odd mistakes and things like that.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Or like on like Twilight Zone or like Star Trek
- 32:36Speaker 1: or any old TV show, you'll see a lot of
- 32:38Speaker 1: guest actors repeat, right, because it's like, well you can't
- 32:43Speaker 1: reruns aren't really a thing yet, and like you can't
- 32:47Speaker 1: let just go look up on the internet. So there's
- 32:48Speaker 1: you probably wouldn't notice that, Oh, this same guy's been
- 32:50Speaker 1: on you know, Law and Order eighteen times as eighteen
- 32:53Speaker 1: different characters. Right, So it's like if you can't go
- 32:55Speaker 1: back and watch the thing, it's just your memory of it.
- 32:57Speaker 1: So and then you just remembered it as being mirror mirror.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Like yeah, the one that I think, the Hello Clarice
- 33:03Speaker 2: thing is interesting because for one thing, people are just
- 33:06Speaker 2: thinking of the wrong movie. He does not say anything
- 33:09Speaker 2: of the sort in silence of the Lambs.
- 33:12Speaker 3: I assume he doesn't Hannibal. He doesn't Hannibal.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah, But then the then it becomes did he say
- 33:17Speaker 2: Hello Clarice, or did he say good evening, Clarice.
- 33:21Speaker 3: I remember Hello Clarice.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:24Speaker 3: For some reason, I think it's also innile in Hannibal.
- 33:29Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I think he calls it right, and he's
- 33:31Speaker 4: talking to her, Hello Clarice. Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 33:34Speaker 2: But apparently no, apparently he says good evening, Clarice, which
- 33:39Speaker 2: I don't remember that.
- 33:39Speaker 3: I would argue that he says both. Yeah, it could be.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Here is a clip from uh naturally, The Cable Guy
- 33:46Speaker 2: starring Jim Carrey, and he seems to think it's Hello Clarice.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Oh wait, well again, hold on, you saw so many
- 33:57Speaker 1: parodies of Silence of the Lambs, right, so that could
- 34:02Speaker 1: just be that, you know.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a clip from The Cable Guy.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Sure check this out. Jim Carrey is putting his skin
- 34:16Speaker 3: on his.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Face Silent of the Lads.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Hello Clarice, it's good to guard.
- 34:30Speaker 3: So he thinks it's hello Clarice.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Sure.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Now I need to go watch Hannibal, which is a
- 34:35Speaker 2: bummer because that's not that, but now I feel like
- 34:39Speaker 2: I have to watch it to see that scene. Good evening, Clarisse,
- 34:44Speaker 2: it's good to see you. Doesn't even sound right, don't
- 34:47Speaker 2: say good. I would say that many times in that
- 34:49Speaker 2: close proximy.
- 34:50Speaker 4: If you get the Hannibal trailer up, I bet you
- 34:52Speaker 4: could see it in there.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Let's see this is fun.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I know they changed the trailer sometimes, but I you remember,
- 35:00Speaker 4: I worked at a movie theater when this movie came out,
- 35:03Speaker 4: so I remember seeing the trail air bunch.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Well, in the Cable Guy, Jim Carrey has to be
- 35:08Speaker 1: talking about Signs of Lambs because Cable Guy came out
- 35:10Speaker 1: in ninety.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Six, right, yeah, but again it's a parody. It's parody.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and they parodied I mean they parodied Sounds of
- 35:18Speaker 1: Lambs on and Living Color, which is a show Jim
- 35:19Speaker 1: Carrey was on. So it's like there's I don't know.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I feel like I do remember a Hello Clarice line, though,
- 35:27Speaker 2: and apparently it's just not in any of the movies.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I don't Yeah, again, I just I can't remember if
- 35:32Speaker 1: it's for me remembering it from it from the film,
- 35:35Speaker 1: or me remembering it from all the parodies of the film.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Because maybe it's an alternate timeline Tom we know of.
- 35:43Speaker 2: I want an alternate timeline where the only change is
- 35:46Speaker 2: that he says hello, Clarice and Hannibal. Ye, everything else
- 35:49Speaker 2: is everything else I do, but it's still fundamentally alters
- 35:53Speaker 2: things in the future.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Hello, hello Clari Yeah fucking said it.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I've been in the state of hibernation.
- 36:08Speaker 3: But that's just the trailer. Yeah, but I'm pretty sure
- 36:10Speaker 3: that's in the movie too. I remember it from the movie.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I've seen this movie in the last couple of years,
- 36:15Speaker 3: noticing the FBI.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so this one, they might just be wrong. I
- 36:19Speaker 2: think it's people who are run most point. All right,
- 36:23Speaker 2: we don't have to watch on the case.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I appreciate that this movie is not very good.
- 36:28Speaker 3: No need to be reminded how much of a disappointment
- 36:30Speaker 3: that is.
- 36:30Speaker 1: There a Mandela effect where people can't agree who played
- 36:33Speaker 1: Clarice starling Jodie Foster or Julian Moore, because that would
- 36:37Speaker 1: be funny.
- 36:38Speaker 4: That wouldn't surprise you. Yeah, you know, Julian Anderson was
- 36:41Speaker 4: going to get that rule m she was very close.
- 36:45Speaker 4: She would have been a good pick for that. Yeah,
- 36:47Speaker 4: she can apparently like something about contracts. She can play
- 36:49Speaker 4: another FBI agent.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Yep.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Because of the X Files. Yep, that's the fucking reason.
- 36:57Speaker 2: So the last one we've barely talked about it. But
- 37:00Speaker 2: the Sindbad genie movie. I think this isn't just this
- 37:03Speaker 2: one is crazy that so many people think they remember
- 37:07Speaker 2: this movie they don't.
- 37:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's I think it's that Sindbad didn't
- 37:14Speaker 4: he do silly, dumb movies.
- 37:15Speaker 1: He was in movies like this. He was in First
- 37:18Speaker 1: Kid House.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think people are making a parody in
- 37:21Speaker 4: their head on like a dumb sin Bad movie that
- 37:25Speaker 4: could exist when they're just thinking.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Of the the Shack movie Shazam. Yeah, that's decided it
- 37:31Speaker 2: was Kazam movie, and Shazam is the genie movie people
- 37:35Speaker 2: swear exists.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not. I think again it's it's yeah, people
- 37:39Speaker 4: confusing the two and then in their head they're going, well,
- 37:42Speaker 4: that's a movie he would do.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's something I don't doubt that for one.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Sure, it's just people deciding that they were. They can't
- 37:51Speaker 1: be mistaken about something. It's like, no, you just didn't remember.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, and what a hell to die on?
- 37:57Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 37:58Speaker 2: Like no, that's this proof of a parallel youse. The
- 38:01Speaker 2: Sinbad movie. Nope, Like none of these things, with a
- 38:06Speaker 2: few exceptions, these are such low stakes things where it's
- 38:09Speaker 2: like you're just misremembering stuff. People, it's not in parallel
- 38:13Speaker 2: universes could be a real thing. That's not that's not
- 38:16Speaker 2: crazy's that's a thing science talks about. But I don't
- 38:19Speaker 2: think we would find out this way.
- 38:21Speaker 1: No, this is not the way that we're gonna discover that.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I feel like it'll be a calculation written out on
- 38:27Speaker 2: a whiteboard or something and we'll go, oh, yep, it's real.
- 38:31Speaker 3: The math proves it.
- 38:33Speaker 1: But other than that, or show me the newspaper where
- 38:36Speaker 1: it's advertising it's real.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Now, go get me Shazam on Blu Ray. Please go
- 38:42Speaker 2: hop over to that alternate universe and pick that up,
- 38:44Speaker 2: and we'll play it in our players that probably aren't
- 38:47Speaker 2: even coded for that region.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I'm so emphatic about the Sindbad one. Is the reason
- 38:52Speaker 1: why is because I was plugged into Sinbad's career in
- 38:55Speaker 1: the nineties. I was a Sinbad fan. So if he
- 38:58Speaker 1: made a movie about a magic genie, that's redundant. If
- 39:01Speaker 1: you made a movie about a genie, that ship would
- 39:03Speaker 1: not have escaped my focus. Like, yeah, I would remember that,
- 39:07Speaker 1: and I would have I would have gone to see
- 39:08Speaker 1: it in the theater.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Like yeah, this is definitely on this show, we like.
- 39:15Speaker 2: This isn't one of those podcasts where we're every conspiracy
- 39:18Speaker 2: is definitely true, let's talk about it. This is definitely
- 39:22Speaker 2: one where I think, no, this, this is some bullshit
- 39:25Speaker 2: that people are yeah making up.
- 39:27Speaker 1: It would be interesting, like I said, it would be
- 39:29Speaker 1: interesting to get like an actual, like sample size and
- 39:33Speaker 1: take a look at people who like genuinely not egged
- 39:37Speaker 1: on by the Internet or the appeal of being part
- 39:39Speaker 1: of like some weird reality where alternate universes are just
- 39:43Speaker 1: crossing over with each other, but like people enough people
- 39:47Speaker 1: misremembering an event in a in the same specific way.
- 39:50Speaker 1: I think that would be really interesting to look at.
- 39:52Speaker 1: But that's the world. That's not what this. Yeah, this
- 39:55Speaker 1: is definitely proof that we're like skipping across timelines.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Now, don't don't think it is now had you been
- 40:01Speaker 2: here for the Elvis episode, that's a conspiracy.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I believe now that Elvis is not dead.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Well, no, I'm dead now, he's dead. I'm sure he's
- 40:09Speaker 2: dead now. I just don't think he died when people
- 40:12Speaker 2: think he did. The Witness Protection Program is a thing
- 40:15Speaker 2: I have to listen to that it's it's actually pretty
- 40:18Speaker 2: interesting and the all of the theories behind it are
- 40:22Speaker 2: based on FBI files. He definitely worked with him to
- 40:25Speaker 2: bring down a criminal organization. It's interesting stuff, huh. Or
- 40:30Speaker 2: that might have happened, mabe, I just remember it that way, right, Yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 2: maybe I remember Elvis's career with him ending with him
- 40:35Speaker 2: hopping a plane to Argentina, having.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Just pulled off the justice mission of his dreams.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Right, yeah, Elvis dead in a plane crash, right.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. I think so. Well, it's still
- 40:44Speaker 3: still of a drug overdose, just on the way down.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Right, Yeah. The plane was was was spirally towards the earth,
- 40:50Speaker 1: so he took all the quailies he had left.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, was in the airplane bathroom. There wasn't one sit
- 40:57Speaker 2: on his plane.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Don't know that.
- 41:01Speaker 2: So, yeah, that's the Mandela effect. I call bullshit on
- 41:05Speaker 2: this one. I think most people would. Yeah, this is
- 41:08Speaker 2: a really tenuous relationship.
- 41:11Speaker 1: But I think I think it's interesting for very different reason.
- 41:14Speaker 4: I think that, like I said, they are going to
- 41:16Speaker 4: make a movie about it. I think it's a documentary
- 41:19Speaker 4: and the X Files covered it. I'm scared that pop
- 41:22Speaker 4: culture in the media will make this a thing. Yeah,
- 41:26Speaker 4: because it's not a thing. It shouldn't be a thing.
- 41:29Speaker 2: It also seems like an unhealthy thing to introduce to society. Yes,
- 41:35Speaker 2: during the height of fake news. Yeah, it's one more
- 41:38Speaker 2: way for people to not admit that they're wrong.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Right, So it's one more way for people to deny
- 41:43Speaker 1: objective reality, right right, And that's dangerous and yeah yeah
- 41:49Speaker 1: fuck yeah, because we're gonna get a movie. We're gonna
- 41:52Speaker 1: get a Mandela where somebody's going to bring up the
- 41:53Speaker 1: Mandela effect to justify denying the Holocaust.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I can see that.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, what a can of worms? This is yes,
- 42:02Speaker 2: good times. So that's the Mandela effect. We can wrap
- 42:07Speaker 2: it up.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I reckon Uh, the internet was a bad idea at him.
- 42:11Speaker 2: It's I am on board with the idea that we
- 42:15Speaker 2: should have had really strict government crackdowns on the internet
- 42:19Speaker 2: almost right away, Like we should be China right now.
- 42:22Speaker 2: That's the only way the internet would still be. I
- 42:24Speaker 2: bet the internet is a blast in China because it's
- 42:28Speaker 2: just people fucking posting their fucking pictures of dogs and
- 42:34Speaker 2: wacky game shows and things like that, and no politics.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Loose change doesn't get made over there.
