- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. We're talking this week about the death and
- 0:09Speaker 1: resurrection of Jesus as the heart of the Christian faith
- 0:14Speaker 1: and of what changes our lives.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Well, I love this theme. The resurrection of Jesus. The
- 0:21Speaker 1: living Jesus Christ is the one who is changing lives
- 0:26Speaker 1: across this world today. He's changed my life. I hope
- 0:30Speaker 1: he's changed yours. If he hasn't and you've never encountered
- 0:34Speaker 1: the risen, living Jesus Christ, put your faith in Him.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And experienced God in your life, shaping and changing your
- 0:43Speaker 1: life to fit with His agenda in this world. Well,
- 0:47Speaker 1: I hope that you experience that before very long, because
- 0:51Speaker 1: there is nothing better in life than your relationship with God.
- 0:56Speaker 1: That is, after all, why you were made. You were
- 1:01Speaker 1: made for God to know Him, experience Him, and walk
- 1:06Speaker 1: with Him throughout your life.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Paul's just been talking about how there is no Christian
- 1:11Speaker 1: faith if Christ has not been raised, and in 1
- 1:15Speaker 1: Corinthians chapter 15 verse 20, he goes on to say,
- 1:18Speaker 1: but in fact Christ has been raised from the dead,
- 1:23Speaker 1: the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep, that is,
- 1:28Speaker 1: falling asleep in Paul's terminology is dying, and he's saying
- 1:32Speaker 1: Jesus is the first one who, when he died, He
- 1:36Speaker 1: rose from the dead.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But that's just it. He's the first fruits, the beginning
- 1:42Speaker 1: of the harvest season, the first one to go through that.
- 1:46Speaker 1: But it's the guarantee that God is going to raise
- 1:49Speaker 1: us all from the dead. Death is not the end
- 1:51Speaker 1: for us, for as by a man, by Adam, the
- 1:56Speaker 1: first man who sinned and broke our relationship with God.
- 2:00Speaker 1: As by a man came death, by a man has
- 2:04Speaker 1: also come the resurrection of the dead. For as in
- 2:08Speaker 1: Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be
- 2:14Speaker 1: made alive. For as in Adam all die, so also
- 2:19Speaker 1: in Christ shall all be made alive, just like everyone
- 2:22Speaker 1: who is descended from Adam.
- 2:25Speaker 1: In physical bodies will die physically. So everyone who has
- 2:28Speaker 1: put their faith in Jesus Christ becomes spiritual descendants of Jesus.
- 2:34Speaker 1: We will be made alive. Our bodies will die. They'll
- 2:38Speaker 1: be buried. Our spirits will continue. And when Christ returns
- 2:42Speaker 1: and makes everything new, then our spirits will be reunited
- 2:47Speaker 1: with a new resurrection body.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But each in its own order. Christ, the first fruits.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He's already risen from the dead. Then at His coming,
- 2:59Speaker 1: those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end when
- 3:02Speaker 1: He delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying
- 3:06Speaker 1: every rule and every authority and power, for he must
- 3:11Speaker 1: reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
- 3:15Speaker 1: The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
- 3:19Speaker 1: For God has put all things in subjection under His feet,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but when it says all things are put in subjection,
- 3:27Speaker 1: it's plain that He is accepted who put all things
- 3:30Speaker 1: in subjection under Him.
- 3:32Speaker 1: When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son
- 3:36Speaker 1: Himself will also be subjected to Him who put all
- 3:39Speaker 1: things in subjection under Him, that God may be all
- 3:44Speaker 1: in all.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Paul goes on to say that our faith in the
- 3:52Speaker 1: resurrection of Jesus Christ makes it all worth it. There
- 3:56Speaker 1: may come hard times as a result. You may not
- 3:59Speaker 1: be treated well by people around you because of your
- 4:02Speaker 1: faith in Christ, but it doesn't matter. Your faith in Jesus,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the assurance, the hope that death is not the end,
- 4:09Speaker 1: that you will go on to live with God along
- 4:12Speaker 1: with all of those who.
- 4:14Speaker 1: have believed in Jesus Christ. This gives us a hope
- 4:18Speaker 1: in life and makes the Christian life worth living. What
- 4:24Speaker 1: are you facing today? Remember the hope that is in
- 4:29Speaker 1: Jesus Christ.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm John North.
