Transcript
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to a court of chapters and chatter, a weekly chapter-by-chapter reread of A Court of Thorns and Versus.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: At least it used to be.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I'm one of your hosts, Hunter.
- 0:35SPEAKER_04: And I'm your other host, Rachel.
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: And today we're talking about a court of splintered harmony.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I still cannot remember that to save my life.
- 0:46SPEAKER_04: It throws me off.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Like I can remember what it's called.
- 0:50SPEAKER_04: It just doesn't sound the same.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: And I guess it fits because the story is very different than all the other Avatar books.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: So today it is uh currently Wednesday, October 28th.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: Book came out yesterday.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Spoilers everything.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We're gonna talk, we're gonna talk about it.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: If you haven't finished the book, come back later.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: This is uh gonna be lots of spoilers.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: So uh yeah.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: So we we finally got the book.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: It's been how many years?
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Five.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: We've been waiting since 2021?
- 1:31SPEAKER_04: 2021 is when Silver Flames came out.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So what do you think?
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: It the book it's the story itself is so far so good.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: Um I was a little disappointed in how it like ended almost because it felt like I just ran into a brick wall.
- 1:58SPEAKER_04: Right rather than gone down to like you know how like even even books with cliffhangers, they kind of have a natural digression, if you will.
- 2:14SPEAKER_04: Like you know, they hit their climax and then start to go back down until the next book up.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it just like stopped.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: Which I know it she's mentioned that like she this is part of a bigger book.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: This is just one part, it just caught me off guard a lot, especially because I was reading it on my Kindle and it told me I had an hour and a half left, and then I got to this one chapter, and I still had an hour and two minutes left, but it was the end of the book, and the rest was just bonus chapters, which I have already read.
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: What did you think?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Um, I I pretty much agree with you.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Um I was expecting the book to just fall off.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Because how could it not?
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Um, I I really liked it.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: I I'm not sure.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I'm in the minority, but I mean once you once you remove the book not being a complete book from the equation.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: It's really well written.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: She's um it's like the most interesting this series has felt to me.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And I I assume that's just because of the um different POV style.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm thinking too.
- 3:53SPEAKER_04: It it was nice to be able to get almost every because we got the point of view of everyone in the inner circle.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: They at least had one chapter that was theirs.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: There was obviously Azrael was the Azreel and Nesta were the main point of views.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Um I would say they had the most.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: They had the most chapters.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: And then I guess they weren't really chapters, because then like they were like chapters, but then there were sections of each chapter that were other points of view.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: It seemed.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Did Elaine have a point of view, or did we only get it from other people's point of view?
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Now I'm second guessing myself.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Uh we had the one from Moore's point of view.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And then we had the one from Nesta's or no, Ferra's point of view with the argument.
- 4:50SPEAKER_04: And then Nesta's.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: And we had Azreel's and Cassian's and Reese's.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: I guess I think you're right.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure that we actually got a Elaine POV.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: No, we just got her talking.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, we had a Gwyn POV.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: We did, but we didn't get a goddamn which was interesting.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: I did after reading her POV, I was a little felt a little sad for her.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Gwyn?
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: I mean she definitely went through some shit.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure what's going on between her and Nesta.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: That was weird, but it was.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: It felt unearned.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: I I thought a lot of it felt unearned.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: Like the ire of everyone on Nesta because of the mask, but like they they almost it almost like backtracked because like it's said that after the blood rite, Gwyn was mad at Nesta.
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: But after the blood rite, Nesta was rushed to Fayra to save her, and she comes out and like hugs Emery and Gwyn, and they're like all happy.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:17SPEAKER_04: That's at the end of Silver Flames.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: And I didn't understand that part now that Emery and Gwyn are kind not Emery so much because she's just really busy, but Gwyn especially is that upset with Nesta that she's like taking a back seat.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's been six months.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Like I expected Reese to be upset about the mask.
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: So did I, because he's Reese, and we'll I'll discuss my thoughts on him in a little bit.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: But how about our predictions?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: How do you think we did with our predictions?
- 6:58SPEAKER_04: Predictions of like the quotes.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Just in general.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, we didn't learn too much in this.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: I was every chapter I was waiting for fucking Nyx to get taken?
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Get taken.
- 7:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so was I.
- 7:17SPEAKER_04: Especially right before the um naming day celebration.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: I thought for sure Nyx was getting taken.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Um and during and after and yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: Um, so for that to not happen and it just be what happened with Bryaxis, I mean, which was horrible for everybody there.
- 7:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: I can't even imagine what not being able to like even feel and see what is actually happening around you.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Like a VR Boggart.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: On that note about like that whole thing happening, there's a mention of Nes is it Nesta or Farah thinking about the uh thing that the the weaved string that the tether or the thread that was.
- 8:14SPEAKER_04: The tether that Clotho gave them and they had wrapped around their hands, and Farah said, Was it a gift?
- 8:20SPEAKER_04: Did she know this was going to happen?
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: Because without it, her and her and Reese would have dropped Nyx.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Do we want to jump into Clotho?
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: What the fuck?
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: Um, so I was I'm so mad at her in the way she spoke to Farah, but also, I mean, Farah was Phaera.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 8:51SPEAKER_04: And Clotho was very specific in her calling Briaxis a lost sister.
- 9:00SPEAKER_04: So Clotho knows more than she lets on.
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: I feel like she knows a lot.
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: Do you wonder what?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Um.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: So I don't know what I was gonna say.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:19SPEAKER_04: Well, I have a theory or had a theory, and I don't know if it still fits.
- 9:24SPEAKER_04: Now, earlier in the book, speaking on that tether that she created, it describes it as um being like silvery and looking like frost, and it's like a very lightweight fabric.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: And who was it?
- 9:39SPEAKER_04: Uh was it Gwynne?
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: Somebody, I think it was Gwyn, talking about the weavers in Sangrava used to make such beautiful pieces, but nothing as beautiful as that.
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: And it just reminded me of speaking of weaving and the color and how lightweight it was, the spider silk in Throne of Glass is extremely lightweight and it's like a silvery sheen to it, makes it kind of shiny and look like frost.
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: And if Clotho made it, if she is a uh Stygian spider, and I don't know if you recall in Throne of Glass, I don't remember which book it is, and they're in the forest where the Stygian spiders are protecting the like gate.
- 10:42SPEAKER_04: And they're all they're all female, and they call each other sisters.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: And that Briaxis is a lost sister, and they were calling forth the lost sisters of the priestesses, and just makes it all seem like they're very styan spider-like.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I think you're on to something there.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Now, hold on, I'm gonna blow your mind here.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: While I was taking I was writing down my thoughts um specifically about that scene, I had a I had a crazy theory.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: The uh what if that ribbon is Koshai's life thread?
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: I also thought about that, but I thought they said the thread was his life thread was golden.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Did they say it was golden?
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: Pretty sure they said it was a golden thread.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: I'd have to go back.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Uh I had a hard time paying attention to the first few chapters.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: Let me see if I have it.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: I I spelled that wrong.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: Because I I was highlighting like crazy in my Kindle.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: Um, I may have highlighted that, and that would be early on, because that was when they were right at the beginning.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Um it would have to be uh So I'm trying to remember when that came up.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Was it at the meeting or was it um Was it Lucian giving them intel?
- 12:25SPEAKER_04: I guess it's just because okay, so this is it's at the very beginning, like page 16, they're talking about Koshai.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 12:32SPEAKER_04: Um and it just says they were looking for a six-sided box.
- 12:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, the ain't an ancient book of etched gold and a six-sided box.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: And the box contains his life thread.
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: And the bo in the box contains it his death woven and bound within his sacred life thread.
- 12:53SPEAKER_04: And if they find it, they get all they desire out of him.
- 12:58SPEAKER_04: Um I guess they don't say what color it is.
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: It's po it's possible that it's his life thread because of the way the Stygian spiders weave.
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: They take your life or years from your life to create the spider silk.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: Which would make sense.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was just thinking it'd be crazy if somehow, you know, Clotho was bribed into using his life thread to like bond Nick's life to his life or some shit.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, you can't kill me because if you kill me, your baby will die.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: Or somehow he's like not possessing, but I feel I feel like there'd be signs.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: He was way too sweet and playful.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: But who knows what baby Nick saw during the Briaxis exchange.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: But everybody was blinded for a few seconds, even Nesta.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: For a few seconds she was, but not for very long, because it literally tried to go through everything.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: She's like, I already lived this.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: I already lived my work nightmares.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: I own this.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: Um, which was fucking awesome.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Nesta's like a badass character in this book.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: When I started my notes, I just put Nesta, no notes.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: She like she could do no wrong and like completely changed.
- 14:34SPEAKER_04: She's like really feeling caring about other people's feelings.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Mature about her emotions.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: About her emotions.
- 14:40SPEAKER_04: She like, she takes it in, she's like, wait a second, let me breathe, think about this, and how uh, you know, this might also make someone else feel, or whatever.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: If I do this, I need to think this through.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Which was awesome.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: She was a little stupid in her winnowing and ending up in the middle of the ocean without no one knowing.
- 15:01unknown: Yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: Without anyone knowing.
- 15:03SPEAKER_04: I said that incorrectly.
- 15:05SPEAKER_04: Um what the heck was I getting at?
- 15:09SPEAKER_04: There's something else I wanted to add.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: Talking about like the life thread in Koshai.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: The entire book felt very off.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Like we don't have a we haven't had any actions from Koshai yet.
- 15:30SPEAKER_04: Like we're no, no, no, no, no.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 15:34SPEAKER_04: So everyone's Oh, I know what you mean.
- 15:38SPEAKER_04: Behaviors was very off.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: And then they were all like so angry with each other and being that and that's exactly what the book was like saying before we got the book, and how it was saying, you know, everyone was gonna be everybody's divided.
- 15:53SPEAKER_04: Divided, which it seems like they are, and it seems like that's a play at something akin to like a spell or something is happening.
- 16:06SPEAKER_04: A horcroaks is happening to make them almost like Azreel not having truth tell her, tell her on him and using it is not protecting them from whatever power is happening to make them all divide, and then that's how they're going to get over like how he's going to take something or someone, or they're all divided and they won't be able to fight him.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 16:40SPEAKER_04: Because they all seemed very off, especially, and I didn't want to get to her character yet, but since we're already talking about it seeming off Amran.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Way off.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: At the very end there.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: I don't think that was even her.
- 16:55SPEAKER_04: I don't think it was because they she was urging Nesta to go into the prison.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, and make sure to take Gwydian out.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and as soon as she did, she drops fucking Gwidian into the whatever in the prison.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: The prison takes it because it's not the prison.
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: It's whatever's under the prison.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Or do you think she's now do you think Nesta is locked in the prison?
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: It's possible.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Like I'm so torn.
- 17:26SPEAKER_04: And what fucking sucks about because what sorry, what sucks about that is because they were taught they talked about this before that whatever the prison decides, whatever law the prison decides you've broken, and you go into the prison and it takes you as its um prisoner.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: Sorry, I couldn't think of a better word than that.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: Uh you it you don't get released.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was very interesting.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: Um so yeah, who knows?
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: And Amran was kind of MIA for most of the book, too.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: She ran off to uh Varian which we don't even know she did.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: But Barian was missing from the only scene he would have been in the summer court.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: He wasn't there, neither was Amran.
- 18:17unknown: No.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: I am gonna read listen to the book.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: It's short enough and we have time.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: Um Amran, yes, so after as soon as Farah and Amran have that argument after right after the first chapter, after they have the meeting in Valahan or wherever they're not Valahan, I guess it's on an island, uh store.
- 18:41SPEAKER_04: Store.
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: They have that meeting, and then they come back and her and Farah start the the very first argument that sets everything off.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: Amran leaves to go spend some time with Varion, but then her and Varian are missing for the entire book until the very end.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: We get Amran talk telling Nesta to go into the prison.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was not her.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh Varian he he left me at the side of that meadow.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: And he's gonna come back in ten minutes and pick me up.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: But then she also had some very like real Amran shit she said to her.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm you know, super touched that you've you're at a place now where you say you love the members of the court.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: And but also telling her, you know, I know you're not gonna take the knee.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: It was all very mixed messages.
- 19:38SPEAKER_04: She exactly.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: That was the point.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: I need to really listen to that for sure.
- 19:42SPEAKER_04: That is it's reading it out like in m from the words, it's not Amran.
- 19:48SPEAKER_04: Or if it is, it's not Amran speaking herself.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: You have to go back, see if she called her like girl.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: She does.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: She does.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I looked for that.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: She does several times.
- 20:01SPEAKER_04: It's one of her big I know.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Tells.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: Which is why I was like, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think I'm wrong.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I need to re-listen to that for sure.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: Um what was I?
- 20:13SPEAKER_04: I have a list of all the characters and like how I felt about them throughout the entire book.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: Like, Reese is off.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: Very off.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: His whole treatment of everyone seems very off.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: See, because now that's how I felt about Reese in Silver Flames.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: Yes, I agree.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: But now I feel like he's back to form.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: You don't think so?
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: I think the only time he seems like real Reese is when it's just him and Nyx.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Or him, Nyx, and Fayrah in those scenes.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: He seems like himself.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: But then there was a moment when him and Farah are arguing about him being High King.
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: And I was like, that's not that doesn't seem like Reese.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Farah seemed out of she does.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: She does.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: I feel like there's just there's too many made objects all in one place and it's fucking with everybody's head.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Because right now Ness just got like fucking seven made objects or something.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: She does.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: And she, as she mentioned herself, is a made object.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lot going on there.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: It was that whole outburst, though, from Reese during with Thayra at the summer court.
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: Was that at the summer court?
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: They were arguing about that, about him becoming high king?
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: It was like I think it was.
- 21:48SPEAKER_04: Yes, it was because then she just winnows home.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: It was like near a sand dune or something.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: It was very weird.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: And that I don't know, that scene, and then everything.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Else at the whole thing just questioned made me question everybody.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: Because when they're all together, they seem to be off and fighting.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: But when it's just like one and of them with like their mate or by themselves, they seem okay.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 22:23SPEAKER_04: But yes, I had noted that Vera seemed very emotional, I like very out of character for her to be speaking the same way.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: And then it's just the high king business or all of it.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Because I remember when we talked about we just talked about this a few episodes ago when they were talking about when Amran, Cassian, and Azra were like, oh, you should be the high, you should be a high king again.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: It should be you.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: And I was like Fayra would never go.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: She would never.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: But then she suggests it.
- 22:58SPEAKER_04: I don't think so.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: And that's what's so yeah.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: That was awesome.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: Um, I mean, I know she just had a baby, and she's only six months postpartum at this point, is the way they talked about it.
- 23:08SPEAKER_04: And she's obviously very emotional, but a lot of her interactions seemed very out of character with especially with the High King thing, the way she yelled at Amran.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: Um I feel like there was something else, and I can't remember.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: How do you feel um that about how Reese handled Asreel?
- 23:41SPEAKER_04: Um I feel it was unfair.
- 23:45SPEAKER_04: I understand I understand why.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: Now bringing in Lucian.
- 23:51SPEAKER_04: I feel bad for Lucian because in his chapters they're very sad.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: He's literally lost everyone he's ever loved or cared about.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Um How did you feel about the Lucian chapter?
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I were jumping all over the place.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: Him thinking after the fact.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: I could be wrong.
- 24:22SPEAKER_04: Um I was happy to see that most of the quotes that they had given us, we were you were correct, and that like they're just feeding into trying to make us think, oh no, these people hate each other.
- 24:36SPEAKER_04: But like Lucian, that quote he said that they gave us about Phayrah crumbling it all down back his life, and then he was like, no, no, no.
- 24:47SPEAKER_04: No, that was not her fault, right?
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: And he immediately, that was the next line.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: Definitely bait.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: He does not blame Farah for any of this.
- 25:02SPEAKER_04: And like, I don't know why he would want to go think midnight was the time to go fucking have a conversation with Elaine.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: Even if like he wanted to just see.
- 25:17SPEAKER_04: I think Elaine is being ridiculous.
- 25:20SPEAKER_04: I understand.
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: She did not want to be there.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: No.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: And she does not want to be mated to him, but not even giving him the time of day and making him seem like he's the most disgusting male.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Or if she just told him that that's how she felt, like.
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Like, listen, it's not even you, it's that.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: Well, I said this to you the entire time.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: Like, they all just need to learn how to communicate.
- 25:49SPEAKER_04: How just talk it out.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Lucian seemed like very mature about giving her space and everything.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: And she's like, you know what?
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: I haven't really.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: I haven't not necessarily tried, but because he has tried.
- 26:12SPEAKER_04: But he's never had a conversation with her and been like.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: She tried that one time, but Nesta was like, stay away from her.
- 26:19SPEAKER_04: Yes, that was the problem.
- 26:20SPEAKER_04: It was back then.
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: And um I just he wants to obviously just like become friends with her so they can get to know each other.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Even he was like, I don't really like that I feel like this predatory.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: I feel gross, and I don't want to feel gross.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: I just think Azreel that was that was a dick move on Azreel's part.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 26:49SPEAKER_04: Like, come on, dude.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: Well, we'll save a whole section of this for fucking Azreel.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: He's uh But uh afterwards when I was kind of going through my thoughts, I kind of feel like Elaine and Lucian might actually be a good match.
- 27:11SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Um well because everything Lucian's gone through be pre-Aquatar with his girlfriend or whatever you wanted to call her and Jasminda?
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Jasminda and his his dad pulling like a full Tywin Lannister on him with that.
- 27:30SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 27:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Uh super fucked up to the point where he left and went to um Tamlin.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Um, so he's been through a lot of shit.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Um and not all the favorite stuff was his fault, but he also didn't handle it well.
- 27:54SPEAKER_04: He all well, I I feel like he gets a lot of shit for all of that, but like he's not he was under Tamlin's protection for so long that he feels like he owes Tamlin.
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: He always feels like he owes somebody something.
- 28:11SPEAKER_04: And he's like, Well, I'm not a I'm not a high lord.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: I am the what what place is he as a high lord's son?
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: Oh, um, I mean, he's third, fourth in line at this point because some of his brothers are dead.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: Um, he doesn't know that he's Helian's son, which gets brought up a lot in this book.
- 28:34SPEAKER_04: And you know, he's second in command to Tamlin.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: He just feels like he owes him whatever, so he does whatever Tamlin tells him to do.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he he did try.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: He did try, he brought it up, which was about all he could manage.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: Um he did make excuses for Tamlin, which kind of sucked.
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: But then at the same time, Elaine had she was about to get married, and that all shit hit the fan.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: She got.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: She's been through a lot of trauma that she clearly hasn't dealt with yet.
- 29:16SPEAKER_04: Well, that's what she's saying at the very end, too.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: And I feel because they both lost the person that they wanted to be with.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: And I just feel like they might actually make a good match.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Better than Azreel.
- 29:34SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 29:36SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 29:38SPEAKER_04: I let's might as well dive into Azreel's character here.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: My first my first note is what a selfish prick.
- 29:49SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 29:50SPEAKER_04: I was so sad for him.
- 29:53SPEAKER_04: So it made me go back and reread the it didn't make me.
- 29:57SPEAKER_04: It's it said to go back and reread the solstice chapter with Azreel.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: The old bonus chapter.
- 30:04SPEAKER_04: What?
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: I said the old bonus chapter.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: And now I'm wondering if like we all just want Azreel, all wanted Azreel to have such a love story that we made up this idea that him and Gwyn were meant for each other when really they just wanted to be friends because there was nothing romantic really.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: He left the necklace because he just didn't want to have it, and he she was kind to him.
- 30:32SPEAKER_04: So he left it for her, especially after everything that she had gone through at the end of that chapter.
- 30:39SPEAKER_04: He kind of re-gifts a necklace to her that was supposed to be Elaine's.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I remember.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: Um, and then in this book, him and Gwyn, that which was also a really weird scene, by the way.
- 30:49SPEAKER_04: Her out there singing.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: It was a weird scene.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Do you feel like there's something there there or not?
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, she's a light singer.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_04: And he's a shadow singer.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: The shadows were like, here, here, she's here.
- 31:04SPEAKER_04: And she immediately noticed that he didn't have Truth Teller on him.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she asked him where it was.
- 31:10SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: Which was odd.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: Because do you think it's actually still sitting in the townhouse?
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: Because I don't think it is.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: So do you think Briaxis made him see that to get him to get rid of it?
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: Possible.
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: Shit, man, that may have been Briaxis and not Amran.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: That trick nest undertaking Guadian.
- 31:41SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 31:41SPEAKER_04: Because they need to be put back together.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Oh fuck.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: Uh alright, so back to Dickhead Azreel.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 31:57SPEAKER_04: So and then it got it and then it starts off in his backstory.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 32:02SPEAKER_04: Which fucking sucks, by the way.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: Sad.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 32:07SPEAKER_04: Like it's a wonder he can like trust anybody.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: Really.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: Um but there's like the whole part with like the shadows is confusing for him, his character.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: He acts like he doesn't like the shadows.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:32SPEAKER_04: And he likes being around Elaine because he doesn't like the shadows.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Because the shadows feel like an external magic.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: They are.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: Something that attached to him because of the sadness he was in when and he was alone in his cell.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Sounds like uh when um Iatis intervened with Bryce when she needed somebody.
- 33:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:04SPEAKER_04: Which is possible.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: A polyinversion or whatever.
- 33:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: Um it seems like he's always like, stop, please.
- 33:15SPEAKER_04: Get out of my head and that's why he likes to be around Elaine, is because she makes them go away.
- 33:21SPEAKER_04: Which I'm interested to understand why that, whereas his shadows like to play with Gwyn.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: What is Elaine hiding?
- 33:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Because his shadows essentially don't want him with Elaine.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 33:46SPEAKER_04: They don't.
- 33:47SPEAKER_04: And they were disappointed in.
- 33:50SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, disgusted with him.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: Like a dog.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Uh yes.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: And I was so disappointed.
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: As soon as I realized Lucian was getting up and actually going to her room, I knew exactly what was happening.
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: And I was like, oh fuck.
- 34:11SPEAKER_04: Well, here we go.
- 34:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: But for them to be fully naked, I was not expecting that.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was crazy.
- 34:22SPEAKER_04: Everyone just walking in, all both of them just completely naked.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: Poor Cassian is the only one who was like, what the fuck?
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Everybody else kind of knew, except for Cassian.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: Poor Cassian knows nothing.
- 34:37SPEAKER_04: He's actually the only one that I'll uh he his character didn't change much.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: Now there were I was disappointed in him deciding that he was so mad at Nesta that he hasn't seen or talked to her in weeks after they just made it.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: Like they just became mates.
- 34:57SPEAKER_04: What?
- 34:58SPEAKER_04: I guess six months ago.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Has it been six months?
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: Well, it's just six weeks.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: They mated right before Yeah, right at the end of the book.
- 35:07SPEAKER_04: Um before Nyx was born.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: So yes.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: Right before six months because they mentioned six he's six months old.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: Um other than that, like what what newly mated couple, what male decides?
- 35:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, just kidding, I don't want to spend time with my mate because I'm mad at her and I won't even discuss it with her.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: It seems so out of character.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: Yes, that's that other than that though, like once they do get back together, they seem okay.
- 35:48SPEAKER_04: Okay, and he seems fairly normal for the most part.
- 35:53SPEAKER_04: Like his own behaviors.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, outside of that.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: Um also what the fuck?
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: They were so upset with Nesta that neither of them were going to the the trainings in the morning for And then everyone just stops going.
- 36:09SPEAKER_04: Or no, I guess it's all the other priestesses are there except for Gwyn.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: Emery can't because she doesn't have time.
- 36:16SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 36:17SPEAKER_04: And then Azrael and Cassian stopped going and training them.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: But then Nesta wasn't there anyway.
- 36:23SPEAKER_04: She wasn't going.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: That I was very disappointed in our bat boys for letting the women down.
- 36:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Because like it became more than just Nesta.
- 36:41SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: Or they were inadvertently training a bunch of priestesses who might have ulterior motives to be Yeah.
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: Well, there was a mention of the Valkyries.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: That was Amarin.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: She was like, so who do the Am do the Valkyries answer to Reese?
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: Or are they their own thing?
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: And Nesta's like, fuck.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: I never thought of that.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 37:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: So uh it almost seems like outside of two of them, the Valkyries answer to Clotho.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: Fuck.
- 37:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: I mean, they're their own Valkyries, not the original Valkyries.
- 37:35SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah.
- 37:36SPEAKER_04: But how many are there?
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: It's kind of vague.
- 37:42SPEAKER_04: Hmm.
- 37:43SPEAKER_04: I'd be interested to know the number to see if it matches with like anything else in the stories.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: Um sorry, let me check my note.
- 37:55SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: We didn't talk about more yet.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: We got more.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: Uh was there anything more about Azreel?
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, when he brought up Lucian working for Hibern.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: What a dick.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: He's been a dick.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: He's being a dick on purpose because he wanted to make Lucian seem not great.
- 38:20SPEAKER_04: And I don't even think like the way Azreel's point of views come across.
- 38:24SPEAKER_04: I don't even think he really like likes Elaine other than the fact that she's beautiful and clears his head because his shadows leave him.
- 38:36SPEAKER_04: What did he he says something and it basically like he just it comes across as him just thinking, oh, she's just she's just a beautiful girl.
- 38:46SPEAKER_04: Why can't I have her?
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: I think I think Moore came came away with the the best fucking punch in the book when she was like, Oh, don't worry, I'm sure you'll find some other unavailable woman real quick that you can bind after or whatever along those lines.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: I was just like, I'm delivered mail, and I'm just like, damn.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: So they're definitely uh unrequited love mates, right?
- 39:16SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's it's interesting because they allude to when they talk about like when it's Reese talking to Azrael to leave Elaine alone, he makes a comment that if Lucian even sense sense Azrail's scent on Elaine, sorry, smells Azreel's scent on Elaine.
- 39:42SPEAKER_04: He would have cause to call in the blood duel, which is, I guess, the Autumn Court's like mating dueling thing, if if there's like another male trying to take their mate, is what it sounds like.
- 39:56SPEAKER_04: And then Cassian said he technically had cause to do that to Eris, but wanted to leave it to Moore.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: Which makes it sound like they're mates and the way they talk about them, they're mates that aren't acknowledging the mating bond.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Um then there was another hint at there's several hints.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: There are.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: Another hint was uh what you were saying about him hiding the scent.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: And he goes, Yeah, even with that uh little trick you're able to do that, like I think he's been hiding that scent from everybody else this whole time.
- 40:49SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 40:51SPEAKER_04: And more makes a comment at the almost at the very end of the book before Elaine comes in and she's thinking it over and like, oh, I need to apologize to Azriel.
- 41:02SPEAKER_04: I was so close to actually telling him the reasoning I haven't accepted and she just trails off.
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, accepted it.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:15SPEAKER_04: It's because she likes females.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: Unavailable woman.
- 41:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:21SPEAKER_04: Like they may be considered the perfect mates.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: Plus, in um in Azrael's Briaxis dream thing, nightmare.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: Uh Moore had a stake in the stake with a note in her stomach that said, This is your fault.
- 41:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Because yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_04: Do you think Ares knows that they're mates?
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: He might.
- 41:53SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: Because he's not the one that slept with her.
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: It was or it was Cassian.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: And maybe Eris knew that there was a whole mate issue going on.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: And that's why he left her at the edge of the.
- 42:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: There's a lot going on there.
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: Yes, because there's originally Azrael was like wondering why Moore didn't choose him to be the one.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: And she she says, you know, she didn't want to choose Azrael because she knew Azrael would make it more than what it needed to be.
- 42:40SPEAKER_04: She just needed something to happen once.
- 42:47SPEAKER_04: So I think that's what's happening with them.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: That just stresses me out.
- 42:52SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: Just like the the tension between all of that.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:00SPEAKER_04: Um, anyway, speaking of more, we don't really get a lot from her other than that section.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: I feel like we're about to.
- 43:08SPEAKER_04: But we are.
- 43:09SPEAKER_04: Um, because then her quote comes in, but it doesn't have any extra like information to it other than saying like she has some ancient dark power that's older than Reese's that she might have to use when she goes to Valahan.
- 43:28SPEAKER_04: To Thrudime.
- 43:30SPEAKER_04: I don't know how it's pronounced in the in the audiobook, sorry.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, they've also they made such a big deal about winnowing, how much power it takes to winnow and all that.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: And then you get to more, and she's capable of winnowing to the other side of the planet, basically.
- 43:49SPEAKER_04: But she said it it it takes all of her power to do it.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: All of it to also take Elaine with me.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: So she must be super Well
- 44:00SPEAKER_04: There's a quote in A Court of Wings and Ruin where they are is it a Court of Wings and Ruin or is it a court of Mist and Fury?
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: When Fayra's like, I don't remember if it's right before the war or if it's when Fayra's getting introduced to them.
- 44:25SPEAKER_04: Um and Reese says more is who I'll call in when Cassian and Azrael are dead.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: So he obviously understands her power.
- 44:42SPEAKER_04: We just haven't been given even a fucking hint of what her power could do.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: I I do also think it was interesting how she brought up her because I thought no one knew about where her home was.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: Her little secret home.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Oh she tells She tells Elaine she could take her there.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: She could go there, and Elaine's like, I don't want to be alone.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: I want to do that.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: The last time that was brought up her home was in Frost and Starlight when she's there riding her horse, and there's like a dark something in the woods right outside of her watching her.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: Probably fucking Azreel, maybe.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Or no.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: It could be.
- 45:24SPEAKER_04: Or one of Azrael's shadow beings.
- 45:26SPEAKER_04: Like Erebus?
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Erebos.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: That was weird.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: Erebos.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: That was a little weird.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: Too many sh different types of shadow things that the description of Erebas sounds exactly like Briaxis.
- 45:41SPEAKER_04: But different.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: Like the way it feeds, he feeds on fear.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: I don't like it.
- 45:49SPEAKER_04: No.
- 45:50SPEAKER_04: And what their power like where they get that power from.
- 45:53SPEAKER_04: Because if I remember correctly, the VOG is it the VOG that feed on fear?
- 46:03SPEAKER_04: Or one of their creations?
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 46:10SPEAKER_04: I think there's also something in is it an Air of Fire in the Woods?
- 46:18SPEAKER_04: That Ailen Selena at the at that time.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: Is she going by Selena or Ailen during that time?
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 46:29SPEAKER_04: Um I really need to go back and read the rest of the Throne of Last series.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: Uh she fights something very similar to that in the woods.
- 46:44SPEAKER_04: And that's when she around then when she finds that sword in the cave.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: It's been too long.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: I've no idea.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: She finds an ancient sword with a fucking ring at attached to the top.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: And I cannot, for the life of me, remember what the ring and sword do and what they're called.
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: She found it in that cave, right?
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: She had to kill like the monster in the cave.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: I vaguely remember that now.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: Um.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: So I had a uh I wrote down a note here I forgot about.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: Um I don't I don't like this idea, and I I it's surely it's not a thing, but I just want to throw it out there.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: Is it possible that Nyx is the bad influence on everybody?
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: He's the newest variable tossed into the mix that's um it's because hold on, I also had another another couple things on this.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Um he kind of goes through uh a version of the drop as he's like essentially being born.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: Where he like technically dies and then gets brought back by magic.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he does.
- 48:23SPEAKER_00: By the cauldron itself, essentially.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: Hmm.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: That would be more the mother, I think, than the cauldron.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Either way.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: They're Yes.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, I don't like I don't like the idea of it, but it it kind of put in my own.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: There was a quote in one of the I didn't save it.
- 48:51SPEAKER_04: Um in Vera and Reese's chapter at the end.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: It was one of the chapters before the sisters had their fight.
- 49:09SPEAKER_04: What?
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: No, I'm talking about in like the bonus chapters from all the other books that they put at the end.
- 49:16SPEAKER_04: There is a favorite and Reese chapter.
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: And it's when they find out that they're pregnant and what they're going to name Nyx.
- 49:27SPEAKER_04: And Reese is the one who chooses the name.
- 49:32SPEAKER_04: Because uh Reese or Farah says, like, should we name it the baby after your dad?
- 49:54SPEAKER_04: Uh sh she oh she asks Reese, do you have any names in mind?
- 49:59SPEAKER_04: He's like, Oh yeah, with a grin, and she was like I don't trust that grin.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: He's like, I'd never name him something ridiculous.
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: She's like, I don't believe you, your family name, and then gets cut off.
- 50:16SPEAKER_04: He's like, let's not talk about my family name.
- 50:21SPEAKER_04: And she's like, What about naming him for your father?
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: And she's like, You'd be alright with that, of course.
- 50:30SPEAKER_04: And and then she says, perhaps for a secondary name, but no, I want our son to have a name of his own.
- 50:35SPEAKER_04: And then uh Reese goes, What about Nyx?
- 50:41SPEAKER_04: And she's like, Nix, and then he points to one of the walls of books in the study, a leather-bound tome floats toward them, and Nyx is an ancient night goddess.
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: And he's like, from around the time of the trove, actually.
- 51:00SPEAKER_04: She's mostly been forgotten now.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: I like the sound of her name.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: Why not use it for a boy?
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: And so she says his name one more time, and it says, and I could have sworn a flutter of night-kissed power rose in answer.
- 51:21SPEAKER_04: And then it says Reese sucked in a sharp breath as if he'd also felt that kernel of power.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 51:31SPEAKER_04: So those those bonus chapters were important to this book, which is I think why she added them in there too.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: On top of the fact that she also wanted them just published for everyone to be able to read.
- 51:43SPEAKER_04: Um I don't know.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: Obviously, Nyx is important.
- 51:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Alright, so what do you think about wrapping this up by listing off where everybody, where all the pieces are on the board?
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: So because it's funny.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: Uh when we were doing our little predictions, I was like, I bet you this book's gonna end like the goddamn first Lord of the Rings movie.
- 52:08SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 52:09SPEAKER_04: You did.
- 52:10SPEAKER_04: That is exactly what you said in the last episode.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Because I think your predictions were pretty spot on.
- 52:15SPEAKER_04: I didn't really have a lot of predictions because I was just going into it and being like, yeah, Kushai is the big bad.
- 52:20SPEAKER_04: We don't think it's gonna be a finished story because we know it's gonna move on to the next part.
- 52:24SPEAKER_04: So whatever.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: One thing we're missing is Boromir dying.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, it's just like the end of the first.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:34SPEAKER_04: But who would be Boromir?
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Boromir, Boromir.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: What's the analogous?
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: Uh the beloved brother and son.
- 52:58SPEAKER_04: We d I was kind of disappointed because they well, I guess maybe it'll be more in the next book because they had all the autumn court stuff on there.
- 53:07SPEAKER_04: They talked about those places, I guess.
- 53:11SPEAKER_04: We never actually really got to go to the autumn court this time, which I thought was gonna happen.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: I think we'll get there.
- 53:19SPEAKER_04: Probably.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: Um, all right, so we got Reese and Farah, who are so Reese.
- 53:30SPEAKER_00: It's pres he's presumed to be babysitting.
- 53:34SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: They did.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: I went back and I checked out what it was.
- 53:38SPEAKER_04: Hunter.
- 53:38SPEAKER_04: That is his child.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 53:40SPEAKER_04: Uh watching Nyx taking care of Nyx.
- 53:43SPEAKER_04: Taking care of Nyx.
- 53:44SPEAKER_04: That's not babysitting when it's your own child.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: The only thing Nesta mentioned she has to do is she says she needs to do the thing she needs to do.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: But I can't tell if that was in reference, because she says she Nesta says she needs to go talk to Azrael.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: That would be good coming from his high lady.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: So presumably she might be seeking out.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Farah.
- 54:07SPEAKER_04: You said Nesta.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: Well, Nesta told Farah to do that.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but you said Nesta said she needs to do what she needs to do, but it was Farah that said that.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: My mistake, my mistake.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: So Farah is presumably maybe going to go seek out Azrael to talk to him.
- 54:23SPEAKER_04: But okay.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: Um we have Lucian accounting.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: Um we don't really know where he's going, other than Azrael sending that arrow arrow or whatever the heck it is.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: He says to the human lands to follow Lucian Vansera.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: I think he's going to the Spring Court.
- 54:55SPEAKER_04: I also thought maybe that's where he was just gonna go anyway, because he's has nowhere else to go.
- 55:00SPEAKER_04: He has nowhere else to go.
- 55:02SPEAKER_04: He's gonna try to seek out Tamlin, maybe.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: And they can they can talk about their past mate issues.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: Then we'll finally get the Mike Headcanon backstory that Tamlin and Amaranth.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: And he's gonna.
- 55:21SPEAKER_04: How did you get through it?
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 55:24SPEAKER_04: Uh okay.
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: I think it would be great.
- 55:28SPEAKER_04: I was yeah, I was expecting to have Tamlin show up a little bit in the well, maybe in the next book.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: He's just off pissing on plants, apparently.
- 55:37SPEAKER_04: I thought that was hilarious when they made a joke.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: Um more and Elaine, obviously, they're going to Throadheim.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: They just left in the middle of winnowing.
- 55:50SPEAKER_04: Speaking of, we have Elaine going there, and they made mention of their son, the prince.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, two hot chicks.
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe we could sway them.
- 56:01SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 56:03SPEAKER_04: So their son is the heir, so he's going to have to marry well.
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 56:12SPEAKER_04: Do you think that uh that they may attempt to uh wouldn't be the first time Reese Well that's also the way he was talking about every well, not only Elaine, but the way that Amran talks to Nesta about the way Reese would use her.
- 56:31SPEAKER_04: And then the way Reese talks about every single person when he's talk discussing them, he talks at about he what does he say?
- 56:39SPEAKER_04: They're um I don't know how he can use them essentially.
- 56:45SPEAKER_04: He talks about how he can use them in his scheming against ever or to do everything that he's doing.
- 56:53SPEAKER_04: He doesn't seem that I'm I'm I'm I'm mad at Reese, okay?
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: This whole the whole Azrael Elaine thing is partly his fault because at any point in time he could have been like, listen, Elaine, you you need to resolve this mate thing.
- 57:10SPEAKER_04: Or Ferah, not him, maybe not coming from him.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but he I think he's intentionally kept it up in the air so that he can continue to manipulate Lucian.
- 57:22SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 57:23SPEAKER_00: And use him.
- 57:24SPEAKER_04: Well, that's what he said.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: You ruined knowing who his dad is and being like, I'm gonna wait for that for a good opportunity.
- 57:30SPEAKER_04: To drop that dick.
- 57:32SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 57:33SPEAKER_04: I'm like, how can I so disappointed in the character arc of Reese?
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Outside of that, he was pretty I I liked the way he handled being like, You you want to play this fucking game, Azreel?
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stand here and watch Lucian rape your throat.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: Because you deserve it.
- 57:54SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 57:54SPEAKER_04: But then what the hell did Azrael Oh, it was because Azrael spit at Farah's feet?
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: Did he?
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: Or was that?
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: No, Lucian did.
- 58:05SPEAKER_00: Lucian's Lucian did, yeah.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: Reese's feet, and then he spit at Pharaoh's, and that's when He was like, alright, get the fuck out.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna spit at my mate's feet.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: Crazy.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: Um Nesta is in the prison.
- 58:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, either captured or who knows?
- 58:29SPEAKER_04: Who knows?
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: Um we have Cassian.
- 58:34SPEAKER_04: Do you think Moore and Elaine are walking into a fucking trap too?
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: It's possible.
- 58:42SPEAKER_04: They've all been manipulated into going somewhere and walking into a trap.
- 58:47SPEAKER_04: Because yeah, there's another oh, we didn't talk about these characters.
- 58:52SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 58:53SPEAKER_04: Vasa and Jurian.
- 58:55SPEAKER_04: The scene when they're in the hum it's Farah and Reese there for that one.
- 59:00SPEAKER_04: And Vasa, he asks Vasa if he can look into her mind just to so he could kind of see.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: And she's like, absolutely not.
- 59:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_04: That was weird.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: With a weak excuse.
- 59:13SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 59:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:20SPEAKER_04: So if Lucian goes to the human do you think there's a trap set for him, too?
- 59:27SPEAKER_04: They're all just walking into a trap.
- 59:29SPEAKER_04: Airman's already Airman's already captured.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: It seems like it.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: Um Cassian is going to Windhaven with the weak the weakest plot device of I gotta let them know that Paraksis is back and uh increase their patrols.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: That was I went I had to listen back because it was such a like a little offhand.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: It was yeah.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: But that's also where Emery is.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: So I think it's just a plot device to get him to Emery.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_04: Hmm.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: And Gwyn's in the house of wind.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_04: Gwyn is in the either in the library, probably.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Either upstairs or downstairs with their keys that they can get in and out.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: Um she's up to no good.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_04: I know, because it almost seemed like she wasn't really actually upset with Nesta with her chapter, but that she just didn't want to be around Nesta because she was hiding something.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_04: Um, who else?
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, uh, I have a list here.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: Um I know.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: Asreel is he says he's gonna go look for Elaine.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: So he can just try to talk to her and they can figure this out together.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_04: But she's with more.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: She's with more going to Valahan.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: And he's not allowed there.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so not really sure where he's gonna end up.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_04: And Braxis is supposed to be down in the uh library.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_04: Locked in there.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: Locked, yeah.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: But she seems to be free to go or do wherever she wants.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_04: Do you think there's any tunnels down there that lead, like, you know, all those tunnels that lead to everything?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what Amran told Nessada go investigate.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_04: All the tunnels.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_04: I think those tunnels connect to a lot more.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: They made I mean it even they she was setting that up even in A Court of Thrones and Roses, talking about the Sacred Mountain and all the different ways you could go through the mountain to lead you to wherever in Prithian.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_04: Um, I think that covers pretty much all the characters.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_04: That's all they have on my list, yeah.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: We don't know where Amran is.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: We don't presumably headed to Valaris, but is that Amran though?
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_04: We don't know the extent of Koshai's powers.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_04: He can manipulate lots of things and shadows and I'm sure.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_04: Because he's a sorcerer, right?
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: Something like that.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_04: He himself is bound to his lake.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: But not his influence.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_04: So who knows?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_04: I think Yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_04: Pretty much covered a everything.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then we can I don't know.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed the book.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_04: I I I think it's I think it's per the perfect beginning to the story she's telling.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_04: I I understand there's a lot of people upset, but like she literally has said several times this is just the beginning.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_04: It's a movement one of four.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: It sucks we have to wait.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_04: It does, but it's not too long of a wait for the next book, which is going to be bigger.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_04: It's because it's two movements.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: Um and I'm really hoping there's more things that happen.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: Uh, there should be, obviously, things that happen in that book.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I I'm really enjoying the different POVs and I yeah, I really like that too.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: I think it's the best.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: So far, it's the best out of this series.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_04: Do you think we're going to see Bryce again?
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: Bryce Quinlan.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_00: Everybody always uses her full name.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_04: And they like the way Nesta talks about her.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: Like she misses her almost.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_04: And her mom.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_04: And I don't know.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_04: And and and well, she makes mention of the eight-pointed star and like that like that.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_04: Said to her.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_04: What did she say to her?
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: You'll find what you're looking for or something?
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: You'll find your way.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_04: With eight-pointed star.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: Come on.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: Do you think uh Nessa's gonna accidentally teleport into uh uh she would need the she would need the trove to do it, but she has access to it.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: She's got all the pieces the harp can do it, I think.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: Yes, it can.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_04: That was wasn't that the point?
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_04: And that is a portal there under the prison where she got the harp from.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_04: That's where they left from.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: We'll have to wait till January.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_04: It's not that far.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_04: What is it?
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_04: This is the end of October, so we've got November, December, January, so three and a half months.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_04: I got plenty of books to hold me over until then.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_04: Maybe I'll do thrown of glass, but uh I well, I finished Assassin's Blade, so reading Throne of Glass, at least the first couple books, I should be able to do.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: Well, to go from this writing back to Throne of Glass is gonna be Her writing in Throne of Glass is not terrible.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_00: The first couple books.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_04: It's not terrible.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_04: I've read I've read worse.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: I I thoroughly and once this book got going, I was really I was really enjoying it.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_04: I think that uh I think that wraps us up.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_04: I think uh Yeah, I think that I think I think yeah, uh pretty much talked about everything.
