- 0:00Speaker 1: One, Ricky Zach and Manno in the morning.
- 0:04Speaker 2: We have a special friend in the studio with us.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Friend. We don't typically have friends that come visit us,
- 0:10Speaker 1: so this is always exciting when it does happen.
- 0:11Speaker 3: I'm glad that I can be like a special visitor.
- 0:13Speaker 4: Yeah you are, man Zach Myers from the band Shine Down,
- 0:16Speaker 4: Welcome back.
- 0:18Speaker 5: Welcome to our home.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Thank you. I you know what, you are very gracious
- 0:21Speaker 3: for inviting anyone into your home before ten am. That's
- 0:24Speaker 3: true that I don't. Nope, that's not happened in my house.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I'm not inviting anyone into mind.
- 0:29Speaker 4: What's your normal wake up time on a regular day
- 0:31Speaker 4: on no Show?
- 0:32Speaker 3: I have three kids now, so earlier than you'd like
- 0:36Speaker 3: some people, Yeah, early, like like I usually between nine
- 0:39Speaker 3: and ten am, which is like way earlier than I
- 0:41Speaker 3: would like and also still seems way too early for.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Me, probably the earliest of all of the you know,
- 0:47Speaker 4: rock stars out there guys, and.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Like, honestly, yeah, and like I you know, they could
- 0:51Speaker 3: they sometimes I gotta get up early because they go
- 0:53Speaker 3: to they go to school two days a week, so
- 0:54Speaker 3: it's like I gotta get like super early. So yeah,
- 0:56Speaker 3: I nine to.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Ten between nine to ten is a dream. Nine to
- 1:00Speaker 1: ten is what I like to say, that is a
- 1:02Speaker 1: dream to.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys like, so you guys gotta have like
- 1:06Speaker 3: probably what five.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Five thirty thirty when I that's no.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I here's the thing. I don't. I don't drink really,
- 1:14Speaker 3: I don't drink all at all. Actually, and I don't like,
- 1:16Speaker 3: I don't really go out a lot. I was out.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I got back to my hotel at three o'clock in
- 1:20Speaker 3: the morning last night.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So you're exhausted right now.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Actually I got I mean I went straight to bed
- 1:26Speaker 3: and woke up at nine to get in the lobby
- 1:28Speaker 3: at nine thirty. So I'm okay, okay, yeah, I'm right
- 1:31Speaker 3: from you.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It's probably not the forum for this.
- 1:33Speaker 3: No, let's talk about it. Let's get into it.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Have fun out without drinking.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I always have. We were at the the IP at Loser,
- 1:41Speaker 3: so we were I had a bunch of friends. Post
- 1:43Speaker 3: was there and Riley was there, but we were we
- 1:45Speaker 3: were hanging. It was a bunch of my friends, so
- 1:47Speaker 3: it was it was cool. I you know, I just
- 1:50Speaker 3: what I found about the thing was it never helped
- 1:53Speaker 3: me one way or the other. It just and I've
- 1:56Speaker 3: never had like never done a weird fact, I've never
- 1:58Speaker 3: done a drug never even we've never tried like anything
- 2:01Speaker 3: like that. So the other problems I had anxiety, it
- 2:06Speaker 3: just kind of exacerbated that. So you know whatever. It's
- 2:09Speaker 3: just like it was one of those things where I
- 2:10Speaker 3: was like, I think I just better without it and
- 2:12Speaker 3: I can have a great time. I'm at like, if
- 2:14Speaker 3: that's what my friends on me last I was like
- 2:15Speaker 3: the fact that you're outtil three in the morning without drinking,
- 2:18Speaker 3: I'm like, you know what, You're kind of right. I
- 2:19Speaker 3: should I should have left three hours ago. You're exactly right.
- 2:23Speaker 5: The fact that he just like breezed over a name
- 2:25Speaker 5: drop post was there.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I watch your toast. I'm dropping names around here. Yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 3: it was. It was a it was a fun night,
- 2:31Speaker 3: so it was it was good.
- 2:32Speaker 2: We hung Nash is always fun.
- 2:33Speaker 1: We have a lot to talk about with you, though,
- 2:35Speaker 1: before we get into new music and things like that.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Congrats on your iHeartRadio music.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Oh thank you very much.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You got two awards, a Rock Artists of the Year
- 2:44Speaker 1: and Rock Song of the Year for a symptom of
- 2:46Speaker 1: being human.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Congratulations, thank you.
- 2:48Speaker 3: They they they surprised us. Soon literally We've been on
- 2:51Speaker 3: the red carpet for like three minutes and they go, hey,
- 2:54Speaker 3: we have a surprise. And last time Jelly just kind
- 2:56Speaker 3: of ran out and like like abducted us. But this
- 3:01Speaker 3: time they were like, they handed us one award and
- 3:02Speaker 3: they're like, you won Rock Song of the Year, like
- 3:04Speaker 3: this is awesome, and it was like, really surprise, and
- 3:06Speaker 3: then they go, also, we're not telling you won Rock
- 3:09Speaker 3: Artist of the Year. And it was wild. It was awesome,
- 3:11Speaker 3: It was really cool. It was a fun surprise, and
- 3:14Speaker 3: they got it all on video, so it was yeah.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I love that. And dance could Dance is your twenty
- 3:20Speaker 4: second number one rock single.
- 3:22Speaker 3: This is gonna sound so about twenty third. That was
- 3:26Speaker 3: the worst thing I've ever said. Brushing my shoulders off. Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Yeah, an enormous.
- 3:32Speaker 3: It's insane. I tell people all the time. It's like
- 3:34Speaker 3: a media base. And Billboard presented us with this plaque
- 3:37Speaker 3: when we got twenty two and it said most number
- 3:40Speaker 3: ones in the history of rock. Yeah, and I was like,
- 3:43Speaker 3: it feels like monopoly money, like in your pocket. It
- 3:46Speaker 3: feels okay. You're like, I got money in my pocket
- 3:48Speaker 3: and then you pull it out and you're like, I
- 3:50Speaker 3: still yeah, I may have more than like Tom Petty.
- 3:53Speaker 3: It's like I'm not Tom, Like I have a Tom
- 3:54Speaker 3: Petty tattoo, you know what I mean, He's still Tom Petty.
- 3:57Speaker 3: And so it's like it's a great honor and obvious
- 4:00Speaker 3: you guys had a ton to do with that. iHeart
- 4:03Speaker 3: and radio in general. But it's you know, it's a
- 4:07Speaker 3: cool thing to put on your shoulder. But you keep
- 4:09Speaker 3: moving forward and what's the next one, and try to
- 4:11Speaker 3: try to write, try to write another great songs.
- 4:13Speaker 6: So wild that you have twenty three number ones and
- 4:16Speaker 6: you're so young making all of these records in rock music.
- 4:21Speaker 5: I feel like whenever I think.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Of like a seventy like I should just have a
- 4:24Speaker 3: mustache in here.
- 4:25Speaker 5: You should be at least seventy five that you've accomplished.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm I just turned forty one.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Like who's chasing you?
- 4:33Speaker 3: Like? Who?
- 4:33Speaker 4: Who you know?
- 4:35Speaker 2: In that amount?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Tom Petty was close. I don't think,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you know, I don't know if he's probably you know,
- 4:39Speaker 3: I don't know if he has like a Tupac style
- 4:41Speaker 3: vault of songs that could come out. I don't I
- 4:44Speaker 3: don't really know who's close. I don't ever. Honestly, the
- 4:47Speaker 3: fact that we're even in the race whatsoever, it's crazy.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So what you're saying is you guys don't sit down
- 4:53Speaker 1: and make a goal of like we want this many
- 4:56Speaker 1: before we.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Never you know what. For us, it's like we don't
- 4:59Speaker 3: even sit down and got to write a hit song.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You know. There's like we're in a town of people.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It's like that's their job, that's their nine to five
- 5:06Speaker 3: is too right, hit songs, you know, and it's just
- 5:08Speaker 3: not as when as in a band who's been doing
- 5:10Speaker 3: it for this long for me just to sit down
- 5:14Speaker 3: and go, I want to write two things, A good
- 5:17Speaker 3: song and a song that it will help someone in
- 5:20Speaker 3: some way whatsoever. And if that connects, you did your
- 5:24Speaker 3: job the right way.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think this is a great segue actually into three
- 5:27Speaker 1: six five the latest single that you guys just came
- 5:29Speaker 1: out with, that's a deep one, very where's your head out?
- 5:34Speaker 1: When you guys kind of you know, put these songs together,
- 5:37Speaker 1: when you perform these songs, because you guys have so
- 5:39Speaker 1: many deep, very sentimental a lot of topics that people
- 5:43Speaker 1: don't typically like to touch, and you guys perform these
- 5:46Speaker 1: songs and put these songs together.
- 5:47Speaker 2: What does that like?
- 5:49Speaker 3: What's it like? Is crazy? I tell people all the
- 5:50Speaker 3: time that I have the best job ever because only
- 5:54Speaker 3: in the sense of like if you think about an actor,
- 5:56Speaker 3: you think about someone like they get to make art
- 5:58Speaker 3: that changes people's lives or help someone through the day, right,
- 6:00Speaker 3: But they don't get to be in every movie theater
- 6:03Speaker 3: and watch the reaction. Yeah, I get to watch the
- 6:07Speaker 3: reaction and that you know, when I'm on stage, like
- 6:09Speaker 3: you know our last one that went's top forty symptom
- 6:12Speaker 3: of being human, Like I'm watching people crying and like,
- 6:14Speaker 3: you know what, I'm having some stuff go on today too,
- 6:17Speaker 3: So like I start crying, and so it gets heavy
- 6:24Speaker 3: because like, well that song especially like if you look
- 6:26Speaker 3: at three six five, we're coming out of the pandemic.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Our bass player who's our. He produces the records, he
- 6:32Speaker 3: mixes the records. He had a ton of loss, like
- 6:36Speaker 3: he lost his dad, he lost his grandmother, his wife
- 6:39Speaker 3: lost her sister. Like so that one all in a
- 6:42Speaker 3: very short amount of time. So when when you hear
- 6:44Speaker 3: that song, like that's kind of what it's about. But again,
- 6:48Speaker 3: like another thing that we do is I don't really
- 6:50Speaker 3: like what I don't never. You never want to reveal
- 6:52Speaker 3: it too much because like you might think of that
- 6:55Speaker 3: song and think about someone you knew when you were younger,
- 6:57Speaker 3: you know. So I don't ever want to give you know.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I think the song is should be interpreted. However the listener, Yeah,
- 7:04Speaker 3: that's all music now. I always joke like there's I'm
- 7:06Speaker 3: a huge like John Prime, Phantom, a huge Billy Joel Fantom,
- 7:08Speaker 3: a huge oldon John. Feel like there's certain songs where
- 7:10Speaker 3: I'm like, man, this song means a lot to me,
- 7:12Speaker 3: and I think it's about this, And if you ask him,
- 7:14Speaker 3: they'd probably be like, oh, this is about a ham
- 7:15Speaker 3: sandwich I hate, you know, It's like, oh, don't say that,
- 7:19Speaker 3: you know. So, Yeah, I like to leave it open
- 7:21Speaker 3: to interpretation.
- 7:22Speaker 6: But I do have a question for you, because you
- 7:24Speaker 6: guys are going to be back in Nashville at Bridgetown
- 7:26Speaker 6: Arena on May tenth, yes, which we're so pumped for
- 7:29Speaker 6: the show. Nashville is known for special guests. Who are
- 7:31Speaker 6: you bringing?
- 7:33Speaker 3: I mean there's probably an obvious one that people could imagine.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I don't know, Yeah, how sick would that be? Yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 3: I'd imagine there's going to be some There usually are
- 7:45Speaker 3: I mean, our friendship with Jelly's pretty noted. Yeah in
- 7:49Speaker 3: the press. I've known Jelly for a very long time,
- 7:52Speaker 3: and we brought him on his first like real national
- 7:55Speaker 3: tour that he ever did. That's sick and like then, yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 3: we talked about doing it again the year and I
- 8:00Speaker 3: was like, buddy, you're not gonna open for anyone ever
- 8:02Speaker 3: again next year. So we are now here. We are
- 8:05Speaker 3: he's and also, you know, again, it can't happen to
- 8:07Speaker 3: a better person.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I feel like there are like three Jelly Rolls out there,
- 8:11Speaker 4: the amount of shows that he shows up.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I don't understand. Dude. He's like he's not he's not
- 8:16Speaker 3: as old as he's a little younger. But I'm like,
- 8:18Speaker 3: I don't understand how he does. And I tell him that,
- 8:20Speaker 3: I'm like, hey man, at some point got to learn
- 8:23Speaker 3: to say no. Yes, Like you have to learn say
- 8:26Speaker 3: no because he's got all this success right now, and
- 8:29Speaker 3: it's like you don't want to wear yourself out. But
- 8:31Speaker 3: it's like he doesn't want to let anyone down. Though
- 8:35Speaker 3: it's not like, oh, I gotta I've got to get
- 8:37Speaker 3: on the cover of everything. He doesn't care about that. Yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 3: he doesn't want to let someone down, like that's the coolest.
- 8:43Speaker 3: That's the coolest part about that. Guys like I just
- 8:45Speaker 3: don't want to upset anyone by saying I can't do
- 8:47Speaker 3: their show or can't do their radio show.
- 8:49Speaker 4: It's another good segue to jelly Roll performed at our
- 8:53Speaker 4: river on.
- 8:53Speaker 2: The rooftout this night summer.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yes we did.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yeah, so yeah, it's a free show. We're not paying
- 8:58Speaker 4: the artist and jelly Roll he couldn't turn And you guys,
- 9:01Speaker 4: I want to say specifically about your band. You guys
- 9:03Speaker 4: were out there and you played far longer than we
- 9:05Speaker 4: asked you to, which was just the coolest thing for
- 9:08Speaker 4: the I mean, your fans showed up, they waited in
- 9:10Speaker 4: line forever, and you guys wanted to put on a
- 9:12Speaker 4: show form.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yes, though people have to line up since it's free,
- 9:15Speaker 1: so they were there for hours.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Ordering, yes, yeah, ordering, and then people showed up. It
- 9:20Speaker 3: was crazy. We're we're sometimes fortunately and sometimes unfortunately know
- 9:25Speaker 3: over playing longer than we should. Yeah, sometimes we get
- 9:28Speaker 3: fined by venues and you know for doing that. But yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 3: it's honestly, we're of the ilk that like, if people
- 9:34Speaker 3: showed up to see you do what you would be
- 9:37Speaker 3: doing even if you were homeless, you know what I mean,
- 9:40Speaker 3: Like I have the best job, Like I would be
- 9:42Speaker 3: doing this job if I made no money doing it.
- 9:46Speaker 3: So the fact that people are going to show up
- 9:47Speaker 3: and take time out of their day and maybe get
- 9:49Speaker 3: a babysitter or a call off work, because that things
- 9:52Speaker 3: earlier in the in the evening, you know what I mean. Like,
- 9:54Speaker 3: I'll play as long as up till till they unplug us.
- 9:57Speaker 3: That's so cool.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I will see you guys are pretty like mem mesmerizing
- 10:00Speaker 1: while you're playing. Though, because it was until somebody said
- 10:03Speaker 1: to me like, oh, we have to go up there,
- 10:05Speaker 1: like we're past the time to go up there to
- 10:07Speaker 1: do our goodbyes for the show, and you guys were
- 10:09Speaker 1: still going and I went, oh, I didn't even realize it.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Went that back.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. You guys probably wanted to go to
- 10:13Speaker 3: band and we're like we're like, no, we're gonna keep
- 10:16Speaker 3: We're going to stay up here.
- 10:17Speaker 2: No, no, no, we were all very into it. Like
- 10:19Speaker 2: I said, didn't even realize it was happening until that moment.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Good, I'm glad it.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Kevin. Actually that was like, oh, we're past the time.
- 10:25Speaker 2: We got to run back down the stage.
- 10:27Speaker 4: I'm always the one who's me too.
- 10:29Speaker 6: Man, you clearly love Nashville. You played our river on
- 10:33Speaker 6: the rooftop you were. I saw you exploring around Nashville
- 10:35Speaker 6: yesterday and you're playing Bridge Stone. Is there a restaurant
- 10:38Speaker 6: that you have to go to every time you come
- 10:40Speaker 6: to Nashville?
- 10:41Speaker 3: The new one is No Co?
- 10:43Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:43Speaker 5: Hell yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 3: My buddy owns No Co. It is so good. I
- 10:46Speaker 3: haven't gotten to go to Kasa case case. I think
- 10:51Speaker 3: what was called the Oma costa place next door. I
- 10:53Speaker 3: haven't gotten to go, and I can pull a favor.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I could probably be like I heard their book like
- 10:56Speaker 3: four months out.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yea six months six.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I love it for.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Somebody else because you good for him.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They open it at like midnight for like weeks and
- 11:03Speaker 1: weeks and weeks ahead, like months ahead of time. And
- 11:05Speaker 1: if you don't get in there at midnight, you can't
- 11:07Speaker 1: get anything. I've tried multiple it.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Couldn't have no better guy though. He's the best.
- 11:10Speaker 6: So it's like call your friend that owns it and
- 11:12Speaker 6: we can all go to dinner together.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I think I think I'm gonna go there tonight, so
- 11:17Speaker 3: not to I'm not gonna go to the normal cosway,
- 11:19Speaker 3: I'll just go to the Toko. But Noko's great. Uh,
- 11:22Speaker 3: my normal lunch spot would be like Martin's. Probably.
- 11:25Speaker 6: I love Martin, you.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Know, it's his national stuff.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Oh and speaking of food, you brought your Shinedown hot sauce.
- 11:31Speaker 4: There are three flavors here. I want to try this.
- 11:33Speaker 3: I don't have anything to put it on hot sauce
- 11:34Speaker 3: before ten am is Wild.
- 11:36Speaker 4: That's okay?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, dab on your finger.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Where can people get this?
- 11:40Speaker 3: On shineedown dot com, torchbear dot com. It's in some stores.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I wouldn't know which ones, but Upper Midwest. Well that's
- 11:47Speaker 3: this isn't that?
- 11:48Speaker 4: So it doesn't a big ol'd lick of the pineapple jerk.
- 11:50Speaker 3: So all right, that's a all right you start on that, No, dude,
- 11:54Speaker 3: I hey, starting on any hot sauce at ten am
- 11:56Speaker 3: is Wild.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Did a nice little clear.
- 12:00Speaker 3: We got in there.
- 12:01Speaker 5: I did the Chipotle garlic one and it got in
- 12:03Speaker 5: there good.
- 12:03Speaker 3: The Chipotle garlic is the main thing, you know.
- 12:06Speaker 6: What I mean.
- 12:07Speaker 2: I'm intolerant to pine apple. Yeah, I'm intolerant to half
- 12:10Speaker 2: the world. It's so depressing.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Oh no, are you bubble girl like you can't have
- 12:16Speaker 3: like I just I.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Found out I was having so many medical issues, and
- 12:19Speaker 1: I found out that I'm like intolerant to everything.
- 12:21Speaker 2: That I was eating.
- 12:22Speaker 3: That's why I'm desperately afraid. I'll never go do one
- 12:24Speaker 3: of those tests.
- 12:25Speaker 2: It got to the point where it was like unbearable.
- 12:27Speaker 3: As they tell me gluten or cheese or something like.
- 12:29Speaker 2: That, tolerant, I'm gluten intolerant.
- 12:31Speaker 3: No, I can't do it.
- 12:32Speaker 5: The Chipotle garlic is really good. I'm putting that on
- 12:35Speaker 5: my breakfast.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 12:37Speaker 3: That's a like as a general hot sauce, it's definitely
- 12:40Speaker 3: one of my favorites, not just of ours, just in general.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I love that one sauce.
- 12:42Speaker 4: We're gonna let you go in a minute here, but
- 12:44Speaker 4: what inspired hot sauce?
- 12:46Speaker 3: Our drummer and I have been cooks for a very
- 12:49Speaker 3: long time just as a hobby, and he likes hot
- 12:52Speaker 3: sauce on everything, and so anytime we go somewhere, if
- 12:55Speaker 3: there's like a local hot sauce, he'll get that. And so,
- 12:58Speaker 3: you know, I think with a lot of the you
- 13:00Speaker 3: see these things kind of novelty items they would call them,
- 13:03Speaker 3: I think mostly like a hot sauce company would hit
- 13:04Speaker 3: you up and go, hey, we have all these hot
- 13:07Speaker 3: sauces sitting around. You want to slap your name on one,
- 13:10Speaker 3: and like, that's not what our drummer. Our drummer was
