- 2:21SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Do you remember that?

- 2:38SPEAKER_01: I'm O'Brien.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: He's Doug.
- 2:39unknown: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Or Vice.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Or Victoria.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: We're not really sure.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: Uh.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Let me check my wallet.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Hold on.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, I got my new license in the mail tab.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, yes.

- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Did you just push a button and it popped out of your wallet?
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: Wow, what kind of wallet is that?
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: I know, right?
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: You get you put all your cards in there, right?
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: And then you just you just flick that and just beep.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: There it is, man.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: What is that called?
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: What is that wallet called?
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: Uh Vol kit?
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: V-U-L-K-I-T.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: And it's it's got, you know, place for your money and wow.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Stuff.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: It's got, you know.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: That's the cool part, man.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: It's just like you don't just like, oh, I need what do you need?
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: My social security cards?
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Bam.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to look into that.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Vol kit?
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: Vol kit.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: There's a bunch of different ones, but this is the one.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I've never seen one like that, like with a like a trigger.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: Shoots across a room, takes your eye out.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: May I um have your driver's license and proof of insurance, please?
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: Good thing you're wearing that vest, officer.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: You would have died.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: You're coming with me.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: Out of the car, please.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: Taser me.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: What do you do?
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Well, you shot me with his wallet.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Excuse me?
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Yes, I know.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: You asked for my license.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: I just it just got out of way from me.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: I didn't have the safety on.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: I've I'm that I'm looking into that.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: So yeah, so my license came in and uh I look less uh serial killer-ish.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: So your first one, what was it?
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Five years every year.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Six years.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Six years?
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so six years ago you would have been what forty four?
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: No, no, actually forty.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: I would be forty uh forty-six, yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you would have been forty-six.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Yep, forty-six.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: And you weren't happy with your photo?
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: Not really, no, not so much.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: This one's a little better.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: Not bad.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: But it's good till after I retire, so I'm gonna be I'm gonna be a curmudgeonly old geezer by then, and I'm gonna be like, Take my picture! You already are Shut up, you young person! Give me my stupid license.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Um How old are you?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: 54.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: I was just speaking of getting old, I was just telling you about the fact that I I wake up all hours of the night now and I can't get back to sleep.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I wake up at 3 a.m.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: and you should start taking melatonin.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Well, I s I have some melatonin that I was taking for a while back uh for a while, a while back.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I don't want to get hooked on it.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, but I don't think you really can.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: It's a natural Well, I don't want to depend on it.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't want to depend on it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Um But I think m the majority of this comes from my my body trying to get used to getting up so early because I'm trying to go to the gym three nights a week, at least three nights a week.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: You mean three mornings a week three mornings a week.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: It feels like that because it's still dark.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: It is it's like I go into the gym and it's really dark out.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I'll come out and wow, it's breakfast time.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Now it's time to go to McDonald's.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that's really the only time that I can fit it in.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: And so I'm training I've been training my body to get up at four o'clock in the morning.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And now even on the days that I that I don't have to go to the gym that I want to sleep in a little bit, I can't.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: You know, so I'm up at 3 30 every morning.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Just stupid.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: It's dumb.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: I like being up at like at 5 before everybody else.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: You should get a book.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Start reading it, and you'll go immediately back to sleep.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Seriously.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, probably like the toad says.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Alright, so today, actually, I wanted to talk about because I was in Walmart today.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: You can tell you tell me you're sorry if you want to.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: No, I mean it's it serves its purpose.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: It does serve its purpose.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: I try to avoid it, but it's like it's like the largest building in town.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Well, the mall.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: The mall is the largest building in town.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Well, okay.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: It's the largest building in town with people in it.
- 6:55unknown: Right.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Good point.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Because hold on.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: There is nobody at the mall.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: Every time I drive by that place, I'm like, Yeah.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: How is it open?
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: You know, they open up.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: There's like six people here.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I went in there for I can't remember what I went in there for.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: I went into Catholic charities for something.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Um because they have like a store in there now.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Um I just was looking around for Oh, you know what it was?
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I was looking for uh microwave because our microwave is uh crap.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: And we've had it for a little Do you have a less crap microwave?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Well, they do, and they're like$15.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: I didn't pick one up at the time, but anyway, I was looking at I was looking at them.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: And uh so I was walking around the mall.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: It was the first time I'd walked around the mall since I think the new owner took over.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: And you know, they got that 24-hour fitness place.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, is that in there?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's in there 24 hour omni fitness, 24 hours.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: I looked and there was one person in there.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, good for that guy.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: But I think it's like 60 or 70 bucks a month.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, screw that.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: Um that's the thing with fitness, man.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: It costs money.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it does.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: It shouldn't.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Shh no, no.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, you get I mean, okay, I mean I know everybody loves to go to the gym and do this.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say the same thing.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Crossfit and blah blah blah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: We know.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: We get it.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we get it.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: But you could probably get all that equipment at your house and just do it on your own.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: We we we have weights here.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I could stay here and do it.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: It's just it's for my brain, I have to get out of the house to do it.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I have to.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: I I mean I could see that.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: It's a pattern.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: I have to get up and get out and and do something outside of here.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, we have a weight bench.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: We I have weights here.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you can I mean you could go outside and you could walk down the road and back.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: On the days I don't go to the back.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: Walk down and walk back and walk down and walk back.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, you could you could I do when I go to the gym, I do a mile and a half on the elliptical.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: When I don't go to the gym, I walk outside.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: You know, for a mile and a half.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: Uh so you're trying right.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, it it doesn't cost money to get in shape.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: No, and it should, it really should.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: No.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: But I mean I mean there was a period of my life where I got paid to get in shape.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I paid dearly.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, you did.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I remember.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: But I remember.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: See where that got me.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: So anyway, I was in Walmart.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I forgot that's what I've got.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Every time I go into Walmart, I have to go to the CDs and the albums.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, of course.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Just because.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Well, just so I'm it's the only place well, I mean, other than KMH, it's the only place you can find music.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Uh so I'm I'm flipping through the CDs.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Um and I mean what little CDs they have there now.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Um and I found the two disc version of the 40th anniversary of Pyromania.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't buy it.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Um I I was going to, I was getting grow you know, groceries and stuff, and I said, if I buy this, it's gonna make my drug grocery bill$17 more.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: And my wife's gonna ask questions.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: So I said, I'm not gonna get it.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Should have been like, I bought$17 worth of grapes and then I ate them on the way home.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Well, you know what?
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: That's probably that probably could happen because$17 worth of grapes is probably like a handful.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Seven grapes.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: So but I I almost bought it, but it looks how much was it?
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: 17 bucks.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's not bad.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: I think I only paid 20 for mine.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: I got that off of uh Amazon.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: So I think I spilled tea on my crotch.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: Well, that's I have crotch tea.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: Tea crotch.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: It's crotch of tea.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: Crotch a tea.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: You gotta hit the button.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: You gotta hit the button.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: Not a good one.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Crotch a tea.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: Um that's still funny.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: So uh what was I gonna say?
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I almost bought it.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I was looking at it, and it's obviously the original album, remastered, and there's a bunch of demos.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: And I think there might be some live stuff.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: The live stuff is the other CD.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: There was a but there's a like a four CD set, right?
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's one with a bunch of concerts from back in back in the day.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I don't know that I would ever listen to that, to be honest with you.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: I'm not really interested.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: To be honest with you.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: I like listening to demos, I like listening to outtakes and stuff like that.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: Not really I don't really want to hear the album like played front to back live.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, neither do I.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: No, neither does it.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Especially especially from like 1980, whatever.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: And you know what's funny?
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Um, as much as I love that stuff, I'm liking what Def Leopard is doing now.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: It's just, it's just, it's an odd thing.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Um, I will always love hysteria and I always love Pyromania.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but I I don't know, maybe it's just because I'm crotchety.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: I like seeing these guys, these these aging rockers still doing it.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: You know, it's pretty cool.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Um, but Ultimate Classic Rock has a little write-up about the 40th anniversary.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Um, actually, they have a couple write-ups.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Of course, you know, when when bands come out with um new material or or new product, um, they always make the rounds.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: We were talking about how John Bon Jovi was doing a bunch of press for the new album and for the documentary.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: And that's why Richie uh took it upon himself to put out four new songs.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Because he got there's momentum with this new documentary that was being seen.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: So with this 40th anniversary, Joe Elliott is all over the place uh doing podcasts and and um interviews and um Well, I saw Def Leopard did that thing, that thing that's going around where everybody, we're Def Leppard, of course we're gonna blah blah blah blah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: I hate that.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: It's getting annoying.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: But they did it too.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: Did they?
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I I can't stand that.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Um did Michael Sweet from Striper do the same thing?
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I think Michael Sweet didn't.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: He might have.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: I don't remember, but uh He did a thing, he did, he did post something about him and Brad Gillis.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Brad Gillis borrowed his guitar.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, I saw that.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Did you see that?
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: No, I did see that.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: And and and Brad Gillis had his guitar tech set it up for him.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Or something like that.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, something like that.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Um, what was I gonna say?
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Oh, that brings me to another point.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: I I got the uh To Hell with the Amps album.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: The the acoustic one.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: That's what I was just gonna bring up because I heard what did I hear?
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh uh they were either doing a sound check or I can't remember what it was, but it was the acoustic.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: They must have been doing a live acoustic thing.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: And boys, his acoustic sounded awesome.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the whole album sounded like a lot of things.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: And the drum the drums with the acoustic guitars, it's cool.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: It's it's the whole album is great.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: They do a bunch of like striper stuff.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they do a version of Amazing Grace, which is very big.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: That's what I heard.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Very bluesy.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: It's a very great album.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize it was out.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: I knew it was coming.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: It came out last Friday.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so anyway, what was I talking about?
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Def Leopard.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: We're like all over the place today.
- 13:57unknown: Yeah, we are.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Um so, but he's he's talking about how he's it's still I saw a couple headlines.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: He's he's still it still ticks him off that people call Def Leopard metal.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're not metal.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: They're well not metal hard rock.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Not now, but they were part of the new wave of British heavy metal.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean they were metal-ish.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't call them metal now.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: I would call them hard rock.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Or actually now, I would call them t rock.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Rock.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna say pop rock because No, they're not pop rock.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: No, pop rock would be like Hansen.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: You know, or you know Bop.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Which is great.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: You know, and has its Hi Jenna.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Has its place.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I would I would call them just rock now.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: You know, because their last album, there was some some hard stuff, but it was mostly just Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: I think they're just straight rock now.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so too.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Anyway, um Phil Collin from Def Leopard he said um the new wave of British heavy metal, a lot of it wasn't very professional and a lot of it wasn't very deep.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: So they didn't like to be associated with the new wave of British heavy metal.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Well, I I kind of get that.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: It was it was I mean, it was a it was that rough time.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Um, so let's see.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: I'm just talking about this one thing.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: If you listen to the demo of Rock Rock Till You Drop, which is Rock Cut One.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Is it is it cut one?
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: It's the first song on the album.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: I think it's the first song on the album.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought so too.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Um Welcome to my show.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: That's Stage Fright.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Stage Fright, yeah.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: That's the side two.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: That's the first one on side two.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Uh notice how I said sides there.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Uh but uh Rock Rock Till You Drop was just done on guitars.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: The big power chords in the front, and I think you knew this part.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Uh did you know that Thomas Dolby was the keyboard player?
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think we talked about that.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we did.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Uh Mutt Lang actually brought him in.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Um they're halfway through the record.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Um, they said in Fantasy's Mutt Lang, if he makes a suggestion, it's got to be really out of your wheelhouse for you to go, no.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Because he normally comes up with good stuff.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So he called in Thomas Dolby, and he, you know, he did the keyboard part.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Now, if let me just let me bring this up because I want to do a comparison here because this is kind of cool.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, we have uh Ultimate Classic Rock has posted the demo version of Rock Rock till you drop.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Actually, I shouldn't say it's the demo version, it is just an instrumental demo version.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: There's no there's no singing on it.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Um but let's see, where is it here?
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: I have to get past all the What the heck?
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, I wonder if that's on the um I wonder if it's on the what do you call it?
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: The uh intro web?
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: No, the shoot.
- 16:50SPEAKER_03: Bang.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Uh oh, here we go.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Alright, so this is what the the version that we're used to.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Keyboards, courtesy of Thomas Dolby.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: And it does add to it.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I would consider this the main rift.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: All right, so Ultimate Classic Rock, and this uh version uh is on the 40th anniversary 2 CD edition, which you have right.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: So this is the version without the keyboards, and it's just the rift basically.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: I did not know that.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: They recorded them to like a well, they likened it to a uh Phil Collins in the air tonight drum machine.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Okay, you know, like a like a I don't know what that's called, but it's like a you know right.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Can you and then they went and added the drums later.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay, interesting.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: That's an interesting way to do it.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Especially for a four-piece, you know.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: Or a five-piece.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: They would have been at that time.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: They would have been a five-piece at that time, yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, I I and I almost picked it up, and now I think I'm probably going to have to.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Because it's got some pretty cool demo stuff on it that I would just like to be a part of.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: I hear you.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: I would just uh I would just like to be.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: I'll be honest with you, I haven't listened to the second disc yet.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, you haven't?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Well, that's the second disc is the live one, right?
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: Well, it's the demos and stuff like that.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, okay.
- 19:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Got tracks.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: It's got like some live, some demo, some bubble, you know.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: It's just like a bonus rarities.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Um so I'm gonna um I don't know.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I'm going to try to resist.
- 19:44SPEAKER_03: Well, you are going downstate, and their downstate holds a bull moose.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: It does hold a bull moose.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: And I'm sure they probably don't have it anyway.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: You're probably right.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Because the last couple times I've gone in there, they haven't had anything I was looking for.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: So I'll be surprised if they have it.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know what that means for CDs and people buying CDs, but you know, whatever.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Of course they have they have a big selection of vinyl.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it is pretty good.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Um, I wanted to introduce you to a new band that I discovered.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: I have been trying to purchase something from this band's website, and my credit card keeps not validating or it keeps, you know, not going through.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: So maybe I'm just not meant to have this band's music.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: But it's a blues rock band out of Britain.
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: Maybe that's why.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Uh it could be.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: You gotta change your money over to Euros.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: And uh it's what I was trying to buy was an uh CD, uh digital album bundle, which is only$7.99.
- 20:49unknown: What?
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was only$7.99.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: And it was a full album.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Um that's a great question.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Um I think they have at least three.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Or four or four, yeah.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: That's interesting.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Uh so this is a picture of them.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Uh bunch of Nair Duells.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Put your arms in the way.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: I can't see.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: There.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, you know what they look like?
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: They look like us when we got Joko in the band.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: They did.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: They did.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: Because there's like a there's there's a few old guys and then then there's that really young guy.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: So they are on Spotify.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll just follow.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: I haven't followed.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, there you go.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll have to follow them on sort of.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna play you a couple of uh couple of tracks.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: The band is called King King.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: And you might think, since they're a blues rock band and they call themselves King King, that they got their name from BB King.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: BB King, Freddie King.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Um any one of those.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Any one of those.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: But no.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: It was a nightclub called Kings or uh King Kings something.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Uh in I believe it was in California that went out of business.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: And they decided to call the band.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: They named the band after that bar.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Which was interesting to me.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Um I like the BB King Freddy King thing v better.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: So I would I would go with that.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: But you know.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm not sure which one it's gonna play, but I'm just gonna start playing a track here from K.
- 22:15SPEAKER_09: You never let it take you down.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: Just straight up blues rock.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: Um, and believe it or not, I'm looking at their wiki page now.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: They've been around since 2008.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Alan Nimmo, guitar and vocals, Stevie Nimmo, guitar and vocals.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Uh think they're related?
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Johnny Dyke on keyboards, Xander Green Shields on bass, and Andrew Scott on drums.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Their name comes from a former blues club, King King in Los Angeles, which burned down and was immortalized in a live album by the Red Devils.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna you ask me how many albums they have.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna see if it says here.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Oh look.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: One, two, three, four.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: They have five albums.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And two live albums.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the first album came out in 2011.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: And the last album came out in 2020.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: And I think to be honest with you.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: Something very Stevie Ray Von of the.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: And I'll be honest with you, I think I was.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: I have a uh on Spotify, I have a Joe Bonamasa playlist that I didn't make.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: It's just, you know, if you follow Joe Bonamasa, you can follow other playlists that have similar artists.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: And these guys came up and they played on my own.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, what is this?
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: This is cool, yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: King King.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm uh I'm going to make them a part of my collection.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: That is what I'm going to do.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: Sweet.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're good, man.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: They are good.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Um, and another thing I wanted to show you, uh, which terrifies me.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Uh you may have read about this or heard about this, but I just want to play something for you here.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: You want me to play you wanted to play that commercial?
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: No.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you just have to.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: That dude looks really sad.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: He does.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: I don't know why, but he does does.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: And I want to talk to you about what this means.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Ethically.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: Ah, yes.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: It's of a day were duck and deeper.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Then the night.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Kind of uncanny.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: But it went eats mine.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Out came the sun.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: And there ain't no more where that came from.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: Well, I I will give it I will give it this.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: It's pretty close.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Well, my thing is, I get a warm feeling hearing Randy Travis's voice again.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but it doesn't it sounds like Randy Travis, but at the same time it doesn't.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: See, I m most people won't be able to tell the difference.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: It really does it doesn't it doesn't have that Randy Travis feel to it.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, of course it doesn't, because he's it's not him.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: In case you don't know, Randy Travis had a serious stroke a number of years ago.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: And can barely talk now.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: But he was involved in this.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, he he put the song out.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: It's like, I don't think he wrote it, but it's his voice and it has his blessing, and there's somebody behind it putting it out, and I don't I'm assuming he's making money from it.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: But he's not singing it.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: It's his voice.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: And I it just opens up a whole can of worms.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Um and and so I read a thing.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: I also read a thing where people there's a guy in Australia.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: I think there's a lot of guys in Australia.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Shut up.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: There's a guy in Australia that makes 30-second clips um of music.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Or maybe a minute-long clip and uploads them to Spotify.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Under 695 different names.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Like he's made up all these artists' names.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: They're all different songs.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: 37 clips, 695 artist names, and he gets fifteen billion hits on Spotify.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Listen.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: And makes money.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: But people listen.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Damn, there's only like a minute.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: That's all it takes.
- 28:49SPEAKER_03: Is that is that where we've been?
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Is that where we've become?
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: We can't even listen to a whole song anymore?
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: It's it's on a playlist somewhere.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: And millions of playlists, actually.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Or I shouldn't say millions, probably thousands of playlists.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: And under six hundred and ninety-five different names.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Okay, well that that explains that thing.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: He can show up on anybody's playlist.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: And different genres and what whatever.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Doesn't even have to be a whole song.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: He shows up on their playlist.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: And he's got 15 billion hits and he's making money.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: So that takes money away from actual actual artists.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: And just that's the way Spotify's algorithm works.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: Now is he now is he actually making the music or is he using AI to make the music?
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: He's using AI to make the music.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, see that's a whole that's exactly.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: Uh we must we must go to Australia and destroy this person.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: So my wife sent me this thing.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Um according to hold on, let me see if I can.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: According to JP Morgan, if you upload your own 30-second track to Spotify, then program your phone to listen to it on repeat 24 hours a day, you would earn$1,200 in royalties.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Can you program your phone to listen to a song on Spotify?
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: I didn't know you could do that.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: I don't think you can.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Unless you have the premium version of that.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Maybe?
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: But again.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: What does that say?
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: You can only make twelve hundred dollars.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: But is that a one twenty-four hour period?
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Well, it says upload your own 30-second track to Spotify, then program your phone to listen to it on repeat 24 hours a day.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know, it doesn't say for how many days.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: Oh how much he pays for streams.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it would probably take like you know, the next twenty-four years to make that.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Twenty-four hours a day for twenty-four years.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: But I'm just saying Where are we going?
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean Truly.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: If we can use AI to make anything, you know, when are the Beatles gonna come out with a new album?
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: I mean they already came out with a new song.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Um They didn't use AI.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: They didn't use AI, but what's just happening?
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: Oh I mean, there's nothing now.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: I have never used AI.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: I shouldn't say that.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: I shouldn't say that.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: I think isn't don't we use AI every day?
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: We just don't we just don't.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: That's AI.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Google Assistant.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: That's AI.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Basically.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Um but I've never used A.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Well even the search on Facebook is now meta AI.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Which is so stupid.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Um I think sucker bird.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: I uh I've never used it like per like with a purpose.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Like I've never used it to write a paper.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: I've never used it to write a song or create anything.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: Well it's not like you have chat GPT.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: I get it in a heartbeat.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, I mean it's there.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, yeah.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: You know, and and and I know some teacher friends of mine have to kind of you know, really em embrace it but warn against it.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean 'cause you can use from what I understand, you can use AI in a good way, in a positive way.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: Well, that goes with anything.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: I mean it's just a tool.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: It's how you use it.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: It was like guns, the internet.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I think I I think I saw legislation that they were they were trying to um come up with in Nashville to protect songwriters and protect artists from using their voice for different things.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Because you can somebody could say, um, I have a new Carrie Underwood song and put it on Spotify and people say, Oh, the new song from Carrie Underwood, and it's not Carrie Underwood.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: But by the time people figure it out, they've already made thousands of dollars.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: I mean it's it's it's just a slippery slope, but it's it's crazy how how this is this is working.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: So I I saw that and I was like, oh man.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Um I I do like the fact that Randy Travis's voice or a reasonable uh reasonable facsimile um of his voice.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: A demonic version of his voice.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: Um it made me feel good that there was new Randy Travis music out there.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: But it's not new Randy Travis music, so that's just it's crazy.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I don't know what to think about.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: It'd be different if it was something that he recorded before the stroke.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: And then they did like the Beatles did, you know, they cleaned it up and you know, put music in there.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: But this is complete complete AI.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: But this but if it's complete AI, then it's Right.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: Just Yeah.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Um all right, let's do this.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Um because we are on the countdown now for the new Michael McDonald memoirs to to come out.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: They come out next week.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Is it next week?
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: I think it is.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: I think it's the 17th, isn't it?
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm getting it at the 22nd, so that's when it's coming out.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: That's what that's what Amazon is doing.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, this Friday is the 17th.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: So yeah, you're probably right.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: You're getting it the 22nd?
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: Well, it's because Amazon can't do anything on time.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: You know, they couldn't they couldn't ship it early and it arrives the day it comes out.
- 34:29SPEAKER_03: No, they couldn't do that.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Because that would make too much doggone sense.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: I just want to get I w I want to get the actual date here when it comes out.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Um you're getting it the 22nd.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Supposedly.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Um I'm very excited to read it.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: I'm excited about it too.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: I haven't I haven't pre-ordered it or anything, but I'm sure it will just magically appear through AI.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: AI knows you want it, so just it'll it'll write it and then send it to you.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Is your nickname AI?
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: No.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Because I was hoping to borrow the book when you're done.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, is the out of the right?
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: No.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: Um you still have my John Hyatt book and my Steve Lukather book.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: I have your Neil Peart book.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: It's it's a hostage exchange.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: It is, yes.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, one for the other?
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: Or are is this the John Hyatt and Steve Lukather book together valued as much as the Neil Pearl book?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Is that is that right?
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: Is that the way it works?
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: I haven't I haven't worked out all the math.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Uh so I figured let's uh well I mean let me do this right here.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Because we need the music.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: We do need the music.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: I wanna I wanna get that going here.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah if I can cue the music.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: If I can if I can find AI, cue the music.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: I don't think AI heard you.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: No, okay.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: AI, cue the music!
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Let's do that.
- 36:03unknown: Is it right?
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, there you go.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: It's time for our Michael McDonald moment.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: We haven't done one of these in a while.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: No, we haven't.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Um Ultimate Classic Rock does have a write-up.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Um, of course, as we know, um Michael McDonald was brought in um on sessions for Steely Dan.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Several times as both keyboard player and singer, um, background singer.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: And I mean, let's face it, some of those Steely Dan tunes would not be what they are without Michael McDonald's.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: Are you saying Steely Dan or Dewey Brothers?
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: Steely Dan.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they brought him in.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: And Donald Fagin and Walter Becker.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: Donald Fagan, of course, was the main voice of Steely Dan.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: Ultimate Classic Rock has an article, and the title of the article is Donald Fagan Still Regrets Not Being Replaced by Michael McDonald.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: So obviously he liked Mike's voice better than his own.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, apparently.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: I do want to kind of read the article.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's by Martin Kelly of Ultimate Classic Rock.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, Michael McDonald would have become the permanent lead vocalist with Steely Dan if Donald Fagan had got his way.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: Fagan confirmed that he tried to make McDonald's 70s association a permanent fixture and that he still regretted it never happened.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: McDonald delivered vocals and piano on tour with Steely Dan in 73 and 74 and contributed to studio projects until 1980s Gaucho.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Uh he returned for another stint in 2006.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Um Fagan explained why the partnership hadn't been extended.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: There was a serious discussion about whether he should replace me as the lead singer, which would have been my personal preference.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: But for some dumb reason, I was voted down.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: I didn't insist, and I've regretted it ever since.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, here's this monster singer and musician, and he's also really funny and a sweetheart of a guy, what's not to like.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Um he referred to his first interaction with McDonald in 1973 when he came to a Steely Dan rehearsal a few days later and knocked everyone out.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: I don't think it means like literally just around punching people.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: Hey, I'm Michael McDonald!
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Doesn't sound like a sweetheart of a guy.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Um, that and other events are recounted in McDonald's memoir, What a Fool Believes, published on May 21st by Day Street Books.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: And let's see, co-author Paul Riser, interestingly enough, uh also accomplished pianist and writer, recalled his own first encounter at a neighbor's house.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: In a surge of Moxie, I went, I live literally next door, and I got a music studio with two pianos that I put in just in case this ever happened.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Would you like to come over?
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Kenny Loggins, who co-wrote the song What a Fool Believes with Michael McDonald in 1978, said he'd first heard his collaborator's voice on Living on the Fault Line in 1977, which caused an immediate reaction.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: I just felt like, oh, this is going to be a major American voice.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: He kind of goes into a trance when we write, and if I say play it again, he won't remember, so I have to record all the time.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: We have completely different styles vocally, but blend really well.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: It's not logical.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: So basically, this article is a preview of in what's in the book.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: So sweet.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm I'm looking forward to um your reaction to the book.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Ah, I can't wait.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: And uh and then finally reading it myself at some point.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: I'm so excited I'm gonna learn to read just so I can read it.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be awesome.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: We haven't done one of those in a while.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: That's our mmm Michael McDonald moment because he is.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: You know, I I get I get what Donald Fagin's saying.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: I mean Oh yeah.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, if we were if we were, you know, at a syndicate rehearsal and Michael McDonald walked in and said, Yeah, I want to join your band, but Doug has to live.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: I'd be like, see you guys.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: That's so true.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's so true.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Or would you would you leave, or would you say, I'll just stay back here and play tambourine?
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: No, I would leave.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: I would literally leave.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: Well, if he said it.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: Now, if he said, like, hey, can I be in your band and Doug can, you know, just shut up and play tambourine, I'd be like, cool.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: Can I stand next to you?
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, if he came and he wanted to wanted to be the singer of the band, I'd say, yeah, okay, I'll just stand back here and play.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: But if he came in and said, like, hey, uh, I want to be, I'm gonna be the lead singer and Doug has to leave, I'd be like, all right, peace.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: Actually, I probably would too.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: I'd be like, all right, we'll see y'all later.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: I'll see y'all on the flip.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:20unknown: Yeah.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: No, that would be oh.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: But imagine this though.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Those Steely Dan records without Donald Fagan's voice.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it'd be a little weird.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: It would be weird.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: Not that it wouldn't be good, it would be different with Michael McDonald.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: It'd be more soulful, it'd be more.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, for sure.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it wouldn't be that jazz fusion that we've come to love from uh Steely Dan.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: I just can't imagine those Steely dance.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Of course, they wouldn't necessarily be those Steely Dan songs, would they?
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Because Michael McDonald would have a hand in writing some of that stuff.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they'd be completely different.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: So interesting uh thought.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: That's that's pretty cool.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Let's jump in our time machine and see what would happen.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: I'll go fire up the DeLorean.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Put the flux capacitor.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: 1.21 gigawatts.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, we're gonna take a break.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: We're gonna hear from our sponsors, and uh, we're gonna come back and we're gonna climb the wall of tunes.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: With AI.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: The no, not with AI.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: And the uh bonus Beatles bit.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: The brrrrr.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Uh that's all on the way.

- 42:39SPEAKER_03: You're not even sure if it's us anymore.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's AI doing the rest of the podcast.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: You don't know.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: Well, it is awesome.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, you can't really mistake this stuff.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: Hey, I can't make anything this stupid.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Hey, that's the name of the podcast.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: What?
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: Hey, I can't make this this stupid.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Hey, I can't make anything this stupid.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: That's perfect.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: That's the name of the podcast.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: We gotta remember it.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: We're gonna forget it in the next 10 minutes, so it doesn't matter.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we will.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Alright, so uh in just a second, we're gonna climb the wall of tunes.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Uh so I'll start that music right now.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: But am I supposed to do something?
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: I'm just we're listening to the climbing the wall of tunes.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, we are.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: There's the music.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, that oh, yeah, right.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: I'm on to you.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: Wake, wake, nudge, nudge.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Alright, so uh in the meantime, when I'm gonna take off my headphones, I'm gonna climb the wall myself.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: And while we do that, Doug is gonna read from Hard Days Right.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Hard Days Right.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Look at this really creepy picture of John Lennon.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: What was a hard days right?
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: We gotta give him credit.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: The author.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: Steve or Steve Turner.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Steve Turner.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: Which song are we doing today?
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: I like your book, Steve.
- 43:49SPEAKER_03: Uh the song today is Real Love.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: From the uh Yeah, there it is, right there.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Readaway.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: Real Love was a song that John had worked on for at least two years.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: And although a large proportion of the public weren't aware of it, a version was used in the 1988 soundtrack to Andrew Solt's documentary Imagine.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: I didn't know it.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: It began as a song called Real Life, the verses of which later became I'm Stepping Out, posthumously released on Milk and Honey.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: The remaining chorus, It's Real Life, yes, it's real life, he obviously thought too good to throw away.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: The theme of the tune, I'm back to what really counts in life, was the essential theme of all his post-beatle work.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: He was stripping away mist, dispensing with the unnecessary, and in this case getting down to the reality of kitchens, cigarettes, babies, newspapers, and early morning blues.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: The revamp song, still called Real Life, was coming closer to the version that the Beatles would work on.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: The references to Little Girls and Boys and Little Plans and Schemes were there, but the verses were not yet in the final order.
- 45:01SPEAKER_03: I love this song.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: Let me play it for a second.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: When John finally changed the chorus from real life to real love, the theme became the transforming love of Yoko Ono.
- 45:19unknown: Oh, good lord.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: He said many times in the interview that he felt that she was the woman that all his longings for love and acceptance had been directed towards even before he met her.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: See, she was AI before AI was AI.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: AI.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: We should play that after this one.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: Um was I?
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, she was the girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: Pretty close.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: The girl with kaleitis, you mean.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: Goes by.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: Either way.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: She Oh, okay.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: She did you just get it?
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I did.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: She was, as he wrote in his essay, The Ballad of John and Yoko, someone who had already known but somehow had lost.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: During February 1995, producer Jeff Lynn of ELL worked at deleting any extraneous noises on John's cassette copy of Real Love and then transferred the mono recording to two 24-track analog tapes at Paul's Sussex Studio.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: Paul, George, and Ringo then added guitars, drums, bass, percussion, and backing vocals.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: At one point, Paul even used the upright bass he owns, which once belonged to Bill Black and was used on Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: That's pretty interesting.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: Real love made it to number four in the British charts.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: So there you go.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: Love this song, man.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: Such a great song.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Actually, I think I like this one better than Free as a Bird.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, I like this way better.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:05SPEAKER_05: It's we're sweet.
- 47:10SPEAKER_05: It's weird.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's good stuff, man.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and that, yeah, you're right.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: That is from Anthology 2.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: The version anyway.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that version anyway.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: I while you were reading, I climbed the wall and I have an album.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: Okay, don't get it.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Uh okay, you haven't said the word yet.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Um so let the guessing begin.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Is it a band?
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: No.
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: It's a solo?
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: Is it a man or a woman?
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: It is a man.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: It's a man.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: A solo man.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Solo man.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: Han solo.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: No.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: Does he have an album?
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't think so.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: But I'll tell you, uh, there is a very, very loose connection between Star Wars and this man.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: I have no idea what it is.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: It's kind of a joke.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: So uh high popularity there.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Um I'll say the 80s.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: But he's very, very popular now.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: Still.
- 48:26SPEAKER_03: So he's still alive.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Still alive.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: I'm still playing.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Still playing.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: Did you play anything?
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: Play the piano.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: Play his piano.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not exactly sure where the Star Wars! Have you never seen that?
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Hold on, let me see if I can find it.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: Because you have to see this.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Um I'm not sure the correlation between Jubilield and Star Wars.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he he looks uh he looks pretty good.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Um I can't believe you've never seen this.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's the comparison of how he looks Yeah, okay, I remember now.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I get to see.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: I said it was a loose.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was very loose.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: There is a there's a a me a meme uh of of uh Billy Joel when he was actually a little bit bigger than he is now, um wearing the harmonica around his face singing into a microphone, and it looks like Darth Vader when they took his helmet off.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, from Return of the Jet.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: Return of the Jet.
- 49:34SPEAKER_03: It's uncanny, actually.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: It is, and it's I'm sure that he uh we'll never hear the end of that.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: Probably not, but yes, also the album that I chose um is this one.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Um let me see if I can pull it up here because I want to have it ready to go.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Ready to go, ready to go.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Well, from the cover, it looks like much younger Billy Joel.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: It is a much younger Billy Joel.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: It looked like he was holding up.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's uh yeah, the nylon curtains.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: The nylon curtains.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: That's a great album.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: It is a great album.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: Um this is the one with Good Night Saigon on it.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: Which is one of my favorite songs.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: It's a masterpiece.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: It is a masterpiece.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Actually, I don't have uh I'm not gonna play that one because you can that one you can get on like his greatest hits.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean it's a it's a huge song and it's very powerful and very emotional.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: Uh I want to play, and then the pressure is on there as well.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: When I say you can get it on his greatest hits, there is that two album.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't but but but that two album set, uh Billy Joel's Greatest Hits, Volume One, um I think sold better than all of his albums combined.
- 50:43SPEAKER_03: Oh, probably.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, that that greatest hits package, I mean everybody had that or has it.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: And then of course he came out with um well actually actually the two disc was volume one and volume two.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: And then he came out with um with a volume three.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Um and then he came out with a box at, which I also have.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: But anyway.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: What?
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: What hold the phone?
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: He has a box at?
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: Oh dude.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: He has a uh well it's a it's it's a multiple CDs.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Um one of the CDs is him going around to colleges and lecturing and talking about how he wrote the songs.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: You've never heard this?
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: I never knew this.
- 51:23SPEAKER_03: Oh my word.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: How am I just hearing about this now?
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: It is the single Screw you AI! It is the single greatest thing.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: Uh he's talking to these young college kids.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: They're asking him great questions.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: And he still does this, I think.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: He goes into colleges and and just has a piano.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: And and and talks to him.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, it's amazing.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I will uh I have it here somewhere.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: I think it might be up there on the shelf.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: I can let you look at it.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Anyway, um, so pressure is on the greatest hits volume one into.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: Also, uh Goodnight Saigon and Allentown.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Of course, you know Allentown, which is huge.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: But the songs that aren't on The Greatest Hits Is this it?
- 52:02SPEAKER_03: Complete hits collection 1973, 1997.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Is that it?
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, now the the thing is, all it is though, all it is is Greatest Hits 1, 2, and 3.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: So it's just a combination.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: It's just a combination.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: But there's a fourth disc, or fourth couple discs, four four and five, maybe, that have him doing the lectures, which is worth the price of it right there.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: I don't see that.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: It's in it's gotta be in there.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: I'll show it to you.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: I'll show it to you after the podcast.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: If I can I'm pretty sure I can find it.
- 52:37SPEAKER_03: No, it's just this one just said one and two.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Uh that should be all there.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: There's the Billy Joel Ultimate Collection.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: No, I'll show it to you.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: I'll show it to you.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: Complete album collection by Billy Joel.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: Is that it?
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: She's right on time.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I think the the album cuts are are the better songs.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:04SPEAKER_08: Sometimes they are music higher.
- 53:10SPEAKER_08: I'm a lot upon the fire.
- 53:14SPEAKER_08: That's to make the complete.
- 53:20SPEAKER_08: I have to wait for it.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: Alright, so we had there was a lot a little longer version of that uh music cut because I I think this is it right here.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's gotta be.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: I found it and I I just gave it to Doug, so he's he's looking at it now.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: I'm not paying any more attention to you.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: The book is pretty cool too.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: It's a nice So is the fourth disc the lecture?
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, is it is it in there?
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: Because I want to make sure it's in there.
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, everything's in there.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: All the way to the bottom.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, the lectures are awesome.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: Actually, I wonder if I have an evening of questions and answers with and a little music.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Wow, I did not know this existed.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: What the frick?
- 54:15SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: I and I have it in my iTunes.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Do you?
- 54:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Well, don't spoil it, man.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'm not gonna spoil it.
- 54:25SPEAKER_05: I did not know.
- 54:27SPEAKER_05: How did I not know?
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: And then this this album is so stupid.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: So the album that I chose, obviously the nylon curtain, has his nod to the Beatles.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: Do you remember?
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: Do you remember this song?
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: Room of Our Own.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 55:20SPEAKER_09: It's all right.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: Very Beatles.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, very, very, very Beatles.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: But he was a big He was a big Beatles.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, if it hadn't been for the Beatles, I don't think they'd have been a Billy Joel.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: I think that's probably true.
- 55:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: Uh this is Laura.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: Umry Beatles.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: Yellow.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Make it call in her fight.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: Nobody on my coffee table to be alone.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: And why I say he's still amazingly popular now, uh, I think his last Madison Square Garden performance is this year.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: His last one?
- 56:26SPEAKER_01: Well well, I mean, he has he's had a residency at Madison Square Garden for multiple years, right?
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: It's been sold out.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: And to get a ticket has been, I mean, very difficult.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: But that's coming to an end.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: So I don't know what his plans are after that.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Um he's getting up there, obviously.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: But the fact that one guy can sell out Madison Square Garden for years.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is crazy.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, that's just that's just a testament of you know the musicianship of, you know, Billy Joel.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: This is surprises.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I'm playing the songs that aren't hit songs from the album.
- 57:17SPEAKER_04: Don't get excited.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: One thing I love about Billy Joel, he has multiple voices.
- 57:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, his song will f his or his voice will fit the song.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if he's doing a rock.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: If he's doing a rocker, he's got a rocker voice.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: If he's doing a ballad, he's got a ballad voice.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: He can hit the high tenor register.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: Um he can do bluesy, you know, soulful.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and he can do rock.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's he's a chameleon, man.
- 57:45SPEAKER_10: Records, cassettes.
- 57:49SPEAKER_10: I believe.
- 57:55SPEAKER_10: There was so many mistakes, and what a difference it makes, but still it should surprise you at all.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: You know, nylon curtain.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: I said it should be um just a great album.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Produced by Phil Ramon, the late great uh Phil Ramone.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: And he's bearded.
- 58:21SPEAKER_03: I know I saw that.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: I was like, man, it's Bob Ross.
- 58:24SPEAKER_03: I know Bob Ross did an album.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: It does look a little like Bob Ross.
- 58:28SPEAKER_03: We're just gonna put a happy piano solo right here.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: That is uh that is the album of the week, Billy Joel's Nylon Curtain from 1982.
- 58:38SPEAKER_03: I think we're more excited about the this the ultimate, the complete hits collection.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: So when we when we get off the podcast, because I uh maybe I'll play a short one of the short clips for you because while we're while I'm editing.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: Because it's it's it's pretty cool to listen to.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: I'm sure.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: Because he's a funny guy, too.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Uh alright.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: So that's it.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: That's episode 195.
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: Um we muddled through.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: All done without AI.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: All done without AI.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: This is live.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Is it live?
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, what were we gonna name it?
