- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. Question of the day, how do you
- 0:32define stress? I mean, it's a pretty simple
- 0:36question and most of us don't necessarily answer it well.
- 0:41So think about, just take a second and pause and think about
- 0:45this. How many times in a day do you
- 0:48experience stress? Probably endless if you're like
- 0:52the average human that walks on this planet, you just, you
- 0:55suffer from having stress a lot. Because we take it all in.
- 0:59We experience it regularly. We allow ourselves to tell these
- 1:04stories that cause us stress and therefore we are constantly
- 1:08pacing. And when I say pacing, I really
- 1:11do mean it. We pace stress, we think about
- 1:13stress, we add stress. We do this to ourselves all the
- 1:17time. So when I say how many times in
- 1:19a day do you think you are, you know, experiencing stress, it's
- 1:23quite a bit. And what does it do to you?
- 1:27I mean, we all know. We've all heard the stories
- 1:29about how physiologically it bothers your body in endless
- 1:34numbers of way, in ways it takes, you know, I mean, high
- 1:39blood pressure, it opens up all kinds of problems
- 1:42psychologically, it opens up all kinds of problems physically,
- 1:45heart attack, stroke, you can take your pick there across the
- 1:50board. So when you start thinking about
- 1:52it physically and you understand, OK, this is actually
- 1:56really something that I am, I, I need to pay attention to this.
- 2:00This is a, this is a bad scenario for me.
- 2:03Well, guess what? It's it's not just that it's
- 2:07something that's bad for you. This is something that you're
- 2:09doing to yourself because ultimately no one can help you
- 2:14control those, that emotion except you.
- 2:16So when we, when stress shows up, just like any other emotion,
- 2:20they all knock. They're all there.
- 2:23They all have an option to come in.
- 2:25We don't have to allow the stress to come in.
- 2:27We can choose which ones we want to show up, but first and
- 2:31foremost we have to know. Like, you know, how do we define
- 2:35stress? If we don't understand how we
- 2:39define it, then we don't know where it's going to potentially
- 2:43come from, which means it can blind side us, which means that
- 2:47OK, I'm going to get thrown off, which means, which means, which
- 2:50means and all of a sudden everything starts to snowball
- 2:53and we have a massive overwhelm. And most of the time, stress and
- 2:58the word overwhelm are best friends.
- 3:00We know that. We understand that these two go
- 3:04hand in hand. So the the pause and checking in
- 3:09and saying, how do I define stress?
- 3:11Like as you hear that, you might think, first and foremost, my
- 3:15boss, that might be the picture that comes into your head
- 3:18immediately without question. OK, I define stress as this
- 3:23person. I define stress as this
- 3:25building. I define stress as this job, the
- 3:28this thought, this situation. I, you know, I can sit there and
- 3:32say I have things in my life that I know are immediate
- 3:37pressure cookers. It's like the phone rings and we
- 3:41all know that there are sometimes that people call and
- 3:43as soon as the phone rings, it, it's one of those.
- 3:46Oh no, Oh no. We all have that wave of stress
- 3:50immediately that comes over us. And it's so crazy because it
- 3:53doesn't have to be that way. It does not have to be that way,
- 3:57yet here we are and it is that way.
- 4:01So we have to visualize it ahead of time.
- 4:05We have to think about it ahead of time in order to avoid it.
- 4:09That's how it works. We must take our our our
- 4:13cognitive awareness and put it into that one thing.
- 4:17How do we define stress? And it can be everything.
- 4:20For some people, this is grocery shopping.
- 4:23They can't stand grocery shopping.
- 4:25Other people, it's laundry. Every time they look at laundry,
- 4:29it's such small triggers, my friends.
- 4:32And if you don't know them all for the scope from the big to
- 4:35the small. Now the bigs are what's going to
- 4:37show up right away. It they always just bombard in
- 4:40like, oh, it's the the biggest one of all.
- 4:42Like I said, the phone call, the boss, the building, working on a
- 4:45project, whatever it might be. Those are obvious.
- 4:49We're also looking for the ones that are less obvious.
- 4:52We're looking for the ones that are more insidious, the ones
- 4:55that are just hidden behind the scenes.
- 4:58The ones that it's, they eroded us.
- 5:01They're like little tiny termites that eat away at our
- 5:05psyche every single day. So that that's what I'm talking
- 5:09about the full picture. How do you define stress?
- 5:12Because going into this time of the year can be very stressful
- 5:16for lots of people. Spring is very busy.
- 5:19We know it encompasses holidays, tax time, all kinds of things.
- 5:24People visiting, you've got to get outside and do your yard
- 5:27work. You've got to make sure the pool
- 5:30is open. You've got to do all kinds of
- 5:32crazy things. Not to mention the world itself
- 5:34is hyper sensitive right now to everything.
- 5:37So question of the day, how do you define stress?
- 5:41Write it all down so that you know where those hiccups could
- 5:44be. And then you can decide and
- 5:46choose which ones you want to let in, if any.
- 5:49Because remember, all emotions are a choice.
- 5:52I just can't say that enough. All emotions are a choice.
- 5:56So I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:59all tomorrow. Bye.
