- 0:46Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:49I'm Curtis Wilson, I'm Brian siglo buddy.
- 0:53We got a Wednesday night. We got the braised play in.
- 0:57Get the braised playing. We've got some fun build action
- 1:00down at appstate down in Boone. Third, Jamie Chadwell at Coastal
- 1:05Carolina closely here tonight. You know, one of those, why
- 1:11would you be doing that Curtis, you know, good and well while
- 1:20I'm doing it I will be attempting to do with other
- 1:25Coaches and coordinators in the upcoming weeks, but good.
- 1:32Good. You told me class didn't last.
- 1:35As long tonight. Brian.
- 1:36Not a little short one tonight. Nothing too big.
- 1:39We're in full on group project mode now.
- 1:43So yeah. Fun stuff.
- 1:47Full full steam ahead. Yeah, it's just kind of a check
- 1:50in and see how everything's going type deal.
- 1:52So nothing, nothing too big tonight, very nice, very nice
- 1:56middle midweek here on a Wednesday on a hump day, we head
- 2:00to the back end of the weekend and, you know, Brian, we've been
- 2:04sitting here kind of talking and you know, talking about those
- 2:07vacancies and I tell you what, we've got a bunch of head coach
- 2:12and vacancies already or some blue buds.
- 2:15Some other lower-level jobs or Lord, P5 jobs, and probably some
- 2:21potential. But you know, we started talking
- 2:24about it and you look at USC fine play Walton.
- 2:28They were in early, they were in really early.
- 2:32Yeah. Um, that sounded like one of
- 2:34those things, the second, he loses a game of ironing and then
- 2:39Ed urge Iran. Who pulls off the big upset in
- 2:42Death Valley of Florida Saturday night.
- 2:46Yeah, but it does sound like this was arranged well before
- 2:50that big hand for them and it may have been one of those
- 2:53things where you know he knew the air was over coached a
- 2:57little more loose that team looked probably as good as they
- 3:00looked this. So this whole year so far so
- 3:04good for them. But you know Coach O out after
- 3:08this year they mutually agreed to part ways.
- 3:11There's been Whispers of female Canyons participating in
- 3:17practice we all contains kids participate.
- 3:21Like if so that is going to be whoever writes that book is
- 3:26going to make a lot of money just to know everything about
- 3:29kocho and what happened there and I'm not knocking coach, oh I
- 3:34love him not being my coach but I don't think he's a fit at
- 3:39Virginia Tech mainly because several reasons and some of it
- 3:44has to do with what we just talked about.
- 3:45But, you know, I know he won a national championship, but if
- 3:50you are still having trouble, putting the pieces together with
- 3:55the resources and Facilities, that LSU puts at your disposal.
- 4:00Then Virginia Tech, probably not for you, not for you at all.
- 4:04Not at all. But now the other one is wazoo.
- 4:08The bitch got fired YouTube State back.
- 4:10That is going to be a freaking score to follow because he is
- 4:12now suing the school? Yeah, it's going to go in and
- 4:16the stuff in Tennessee is starting.
- 4:17I mean, I know that that's not a vacancy but they're the stuff
- 4:22that they're there. And well through it Pruitt's,
- 4:25put a lawsuit up there against the university for the full full
- 4:34compliments of the of the buyout and other Damages.
- 4:40So it could get really ugly there and I thought he got fired
- 4:45straight up and they just had to take the buyout.
- 4:47Did they? Did they, did they attempted not
- 4:48to pay the buyout? That's my understanding.
- 4:51I need to, I probably need to read the article again, just to
- 4:54get a better understanding without that was my
- 4:56understanding is that I guess because of the Sanctions.
- 5:05That would be my guess is they were trying to essentially,
- 5:08they're trying to. They're trying to not pay the
- 5:09man. Yeah, even though fired with
- 5:14with, with calls with cause. So he's going to just come out
- 5:18and be like, Yeah, The A-Team you all about this Phillip
- 5:21Fulmer knew all about us, being all players, and then it'd be
- 5:24like, we might need to kill this program but bags begs.
- 5:28All right, so let's, let's let's, let's also Talk about
- 5:32potentially Miami and FSU Diaz is on the absolute hottest of
- 5:37hot seats. I mean, yeah, d as a seat is as
- 5:40hot or hotter than 20 days and we know Fuentes is on fire.
- 5:45So in case is on fire Diaz is in Gold.
- 5:49Yeah. Meaning God, like it's just,
- 5:51it's all up and down and, you know, I told you earlier today,
- 5:55Brian. Miami.
- 5:59Just they can't find the right guy.
- 6:02And the thing is, what I don't think people understand about
- 6:06when they were winning cooker. Had nothing to do with them,
- 6:09winning that team was so talented.
- 6:13Anyone could have walked in there that just you have a code
- 6:17simple drills and they would have warm.
- 6:19It's, as simple as that and you saw as the as butchers Talent
- 6:22level went off as did Coker, but butch was a hard-nosed coach.
- 6:28Dennis Erickson was a hard-nosed coach Jimmy Johnson and our
- 6:32show. Le Berger were super hard news
- 6:33coaches. Yep, those were guys who
- 6:36commanded the locker room and sense.
- 6:39Basically, I guess you can say Butch left.
- 6:43They haven't had anybody like that.
- 6:44And they were like, well we brought back, you know, Randy
- 6:47Shannon played on the team, right?
- 6:50Randy played on the team Manny like, but the whole thing is you
- 6:54literally have to in some ways you have Have to break that
- 6:59locker room. Break it.
- 7:02And that state just took something to the house.
- 7:06So, Chad Wells. Down got a name gotten coach
- 7:09defense. Don't want to, but you you, if
- 7:14you look at those coaches and what they brought in since then,
- 7:19none of them have that, none of them have that mentality of,
- 7:23like, I am the boss here inside here, we do.
- 7:28As I say, I don't care what you do out there and I don't think
- 7:31Miami is A program that can get back to where it was without a
- 7:36guy like that. And they keep going for culture
- 7:39fits and it would not Shock me one.
- 7:41Bit at they fired. Manny Diaz and they hired and
- 7:46read, it wouldn't shock me when I.
- 7:48Oh, yeah. And that's a because.
- 7:53What is he right now? Defensive consultant for them?
- 7:55No, no. He is the, he's the general
- 7:58manager. He is the like, the head of
- 8:00player Personnel, okay? Okay.
- 8:03So, how do I knew? He had some role in the team
- 8:05right now? I wasn't sure what it was.
- 8:07Yeah, the director of player personnel, which is a in college
- 8:10nowadays. That is a pretty big role.
- 8:12It's becoming more and more of a role, but that could see them
- 8:17doing that. Now, it now could Ed, who was
- 8:21one of the boys become Ed to God, who cracks down on things,
- 8:28maybe, maybe because it is that type of player, You know that
- 8:34could potentially happen. The other one, you brought up
- 8:37which I shook my head at no. You told me FSU, right?
- 8:44FSU, and in, if they can pay the buyout, then I think they make
- 8:48it. They take a chance on it now,
- 8:52can they pay a buyout after still send champagne, Willie
- 8:55tagger money. That's the question, but and do
- 9:02use hit the reset button on something after two years after
- 9:08you, just hit the reset button. Essentially after You know, one
- 9:13full season of the previous, two tenured coach.
- 9:16So fsu's going to be the interesting one to watch just
- 9:19because they're used to winning and they're not.
- 9:23But they've already dug themselves a hole because of how
- 9:25fast they moved on from Taggart. They dug himself a deep hole
- 9:29financially with tagger, but I think what they're digging
- 9:34themselves into a deeper hole with is not giving guys time.
- 9:40And eventually just keeping the ball eventually, you know, we're
- 9:46going to give two years, two years.
- 9:48Like you can't rebuild a program in two years.
- 9:52Yeah, can't okay, if you have talent there, if you're trying
- 9:55to implement stuff very, very seldom.
- 10:00Do you come in that something's a dumpster fire, get the fire.
- 10:03Put out and start rolling again. You just don't.
- 10:06Yeah and I mean you still dealing with one of those
- 10:08Seasons being a covid-19 Season 2, which I mean, funky, everyone
- 10:12was dealing with but that definitely puts you behind in
- 10:14terms of development. Well, development and
- 10:16installation, right? Let me know.
- 10:18Bill had no time to input the offense of the defensive wanted
- 10:21to run, but I say it more to this.
- 10:24Brian. If you were a G5, your billing
- 10:27Napier, your Jamie Chadwell and FSU comes knocking on your door.
- 10:30Hey, come on down here, man. Would you not stop for pause and
- 10:34say, dude, you're giving people a year and a half or two years?
- 10:37Yeah, you know, definitely definitely too.
- 10:39Quick of a For a coach that doesn't see your program as a
- 10:43stepping stone. Exactly.
- 10:45See if they see your program as a stepping stone, then by all
- 10:48means. It's it's still an attractive
- 10:50gig, but if they see if they want their next gig to be, you
- 10:56know, a potential decade run at least the Hecate run, 35 years,
- 11:03you sure. Yeah.
- 11:04They're not looking at at FSU, not looking at FSU at all.
- 11:09So Buddy, he's asking why the hell are you guys talking about
- 11:12this? Well because there's going to be
- 11:14Fallout because again our our minds are where they are.
- 11:19The season is over this this era is over the Fuente 10 years
- 11:23over. And you've got to look at
- 11:27essentially who could be, where's the Fallout?
- 11:31So let's let's play the role game Brian.
- 11:34Because this is how we're going to figure it out.
- 11:36All right, first of all. I honest to God, think?
- 11:41There's no way, James Franklin doesn't go to USC.
- 11:44Yeah, exactly. That's that's more than likely
- 11:46happening. That's what happens.
- 11:48So, you're so you're talking about and here's where the
- 11:51couple things that the vacancies themselves.
- 11:54Don't necessarily hurt us, but who's filling the vacancies
- 11:58could hurt us. Yep.
- 12:00Exactly. And so now Penn State in are
- 12:04more or less, geographic region is now looking for a new head
- 12:07coach and Program lies there about A step above us.
- 12:13There's the terms of in terms of being an attractive program
- 12:17attracted program money, but I think with who they are, I think
- 12:22they have the potential. I think our topping guys would
- 12:25be on their radar. That's my.
- 12:27Yeah, that's my Truth. All right.
- 12:30So start thinking of all your names that you can throw out
- 12:34there, Billy Napier, Jamie Chadwell Dan Lanning.
- 12:39This It goes on and on and on and on.
- 12:43But now let's look at LSU. The other is you job, which just
- 12:50won a national title two years ago?
- 12:53Well, different. I think most people because you
- 12:56think he took over and what 1616, right?
- 13:01Yeah, it was there five years, he had good success.
- 13:04The last few seasons have been rough based on the other stories
- 13:06that are coming out. And that's why he was like a, if
- 13:08he was still wanting between eight and ten games issue
- 13:11without the shenanigans. I don't think they fire it up.
- 13:14I just don't, I think maybe next year, but if LSU goes, So, where
- 13:19are they going to? You know, I think they're
- 13:24looking at a else party. Mel Tucker, Mel Tucker.
- 13:31Now, if Tucker goes and Tucker Coast down there in the early
- 13:342000s, like Mel, Tucker go to Michigan State.
- 13:37To me is a program exactly like us similar Blue Collar, you
- 13:45know, similar type portfolio. I'll say that portfolio.
- 13:54Now, the same level people that you would say, we're probably
- 13:59more attractive because of where we play.
- 14:01They play in the Big Ten East with Ohio, State and Penn State
- 14:04and Michigan, but they've still been able to win a conference
- 14:08title and go to the playoffs from there.
- 14:12So. But it's also that point to
- 14:14where You know, if you think of somebody like what a Marcus
- 14:20Freeman or a loop fickle, take that job, it's party.
- 14:26Being of how State guys would they go in conference to play
- 14:29their alma mater every year? I don't think Freeman does.
- 14:34Well actually, I don't think tickle does.
- 14:35I think thick where they are with Cincinnati right now and
- 14:37how the big 12 reshaped? I think they they are where they
- 14:40are. I think I think fickle is going
- 14:43to hold until he can get the job.
- 14:45He absolutely 100% wants at a Blueblood School, potentially
- 14:50his alma mater again with with. Yeah, with With sincere move
- 14:58into the Big 12 that that kind of creates a situation where
- 15:03he's not in a second-tier conference anymore.
- 15:07If he gets the wins, he needs to get every year.
- 15:10He will be playing for college football playoff.
- 15:14Yeah. So that, that, that that takes
- 15:17him out of that having to essentially be perfect category.
- 15:22Yeah, and I think that's going to be enough for him to kind of
- 15:25move. Pain with that if that
- 15:28situation. Yeah.
- 15:29And then you start thinking about Miami and FSU, you know,
- 15:33they're still higher than us. Miami can pay more clearly, FSU
- 15:36more clout. But then what you mentioned,
- 15:41what you said earlier was, would you say?
- 15:44You talked about the way those programs are viewed.
- 15:48They start coming. They start seeping into
- 15:50potential are coachable, right? Yeah.
- 15:53Yeah, you know if those Open. And it's not just the conference
- 15:58thing, but it's definitely because of the the recruiting
- 16:02footprint and everything else, they're going to be looking at
- 16:05similar tiered candidates to who we're looking at, you know,
- 16:08they're their top guy. Might be some someone that's out
- 16:11of our range. But their number two choice is
- 16:14probably our number one or somewhere in that ballpark.
- 16:18So that's going to be interesting to see how that
- 16:22shapes out. And whether both of those come
- 16:24open, But I mean in the pecking order here you know we're at
- 16:30least going to be probably forth on the totem pole.
- 16:33Right. Yeah.
- 16:34Come if that's the the way wit decides to go with the end of
- 16:39the season in which we think that's what what should happen.
- 16:42So yeah we think that's what should happen.
- 16:46What's going to tell the story and I won't?
- 16:47And what would Bob Costas going to look at is what the stadiums
- 16:50and look like Saturday. Yeah, 56 or 57.
- 16:54Last Saturday and looked good, but if it starts getting under
- 16:5850 and it could very well do that and it starts looking very
- 17:02scarce. He's got to look longer term.
- 17:05That's why we were advocating last year.
- 17:07Like you have to look longer term because right now, if we
- 17:10were 3 and 3 with a brand new coach and we were a few going
- 17:15away from being Notre Dame in one possession away from being
- 17:17West, Virginia on the road Regardless, what happens in the
- 17:20pit game. People are like, we're on the
- 17:22right track, they just had a great game against us.
- 17:24That's what be saying, right? Right?
- 17:26Yeah. And I mean, let's be honest, I
- 17:29mean I know some of some of this was a little bit of conservative
- 17:35move heading into a big funding push.
- 17:39Yeah. But at the same time, there's
- 17:41nothing that buoys a big funding push like the honeymoon effect
- 17:45of a new coach Liam, right? Danilo.
- 17:50Let's see how much everyone will still have hope and that that's
- 17:54what's lacking from the I think. Overall the fan base right now
- 17:57is that there's still some hope but I think people are done they
- 18:02don't have confidence in that hope anymore.
- 18:05No there's zero confidence and you bring a new guy in.
- 18:09You get a little bit more confidence and people are looser
- 18:11with their dollars when they feel like there's a chance that
- 18:15it pays dividends for them. Absolutely.
- 18:18So in the oncoming week, folks, I'm sure will be probably
- 18:20talking more about some of the potential candidates.
- 18:24Obviously, someone like Wazoo, you know, what if I were them
- 18:29honest to God. Truth, if they could hire Justin
- 18:33Fuente and just say, leave the core Nelson guy on your flight
- 18:36over somewhere while every piece of Missouri, right.
- 18:42Kansas and Missouri. Just just, just touched down in
- 18:44st. Louis, and be like, Great.
- 18:47Knowing you, I'm going to go to Poland.
- 18:51It's been fun. Hadn't been real, fun.
- 18:53Exactly. Alright, some hokey notes Here
- 18:55on Brian. Let's talk about the booze at
- 18:58the intro. Thank do some, some boots on the
- 19:03ground and some listening re listening to the videotape.
- 19:06Literally they waited, they waited, they waited head coach,
- 19:11Justin Fuente burn And then it and that that wasn't the only
- 19:20time that he was booed in the, in that game.
- 19:23Because once the offense started to struggle mightily in the
- 19:28first half, they were raining down again.
- 19:32And at some point, when your Boos don't get responses, you
- 19:36just, you go home and that's what happened at halftime.
- 19:39That's that is what happened after he got the end of the.
- 19:45The one that was taken about six or seven.
- 19:46This for the end of the game that was really ugly.
- 19:49That's I don't think I've ever seen link that thin.
- 19:53Yeah, you know in a game now we sit here and he was asked the
- 19:58question, right? He was asked a question and he
- 20:02and he answered it. He answered it correctly.
- 20:04It's part of the job. You get criticized, you just
- 20:06have to deal with it. Don't you?
- 20:10Wish you had a gave a Bret. Bielema answer, though.
- 20:14Did you did hear about that, right?
- 20:17I did. Oh my god.
- 20:18Did. Yeah.
- 20:20Hey Brett, you got, you got a prime, your Bret, Bielema coach,
- 20:24the booze were coming down pretty hard.
- 20:25What do you think about that? Fuck those guys and I'm scared.
- 20:33I'm rich here. You don't come here again, what?
- 20:36Yeah, you know, it is a part of football, at least, he said in
- 20:41that way, and not some douchey answer, but I think it will
- 20:47continue on Saturday when he comes out.
- 20:52If the offense struggles, heck, I even think he could get booed
- 20:55if we win. We won.
- 20:58Yay Booth. Unless we go out there and
- 21:01handle our business for four quarters.
- 21:03There's no way that there's aren't there's not more booze
- 21:06coming out this this Saturday. Yeah it's if it's been a it's
- 21:15been a rough go man. It's been a rough go.
- 21:17It has been other news and notes from the Hokies Peter Moore.
- 21:23The Freshman is a midseason. Freshman All-American.
- 21:30Congrats Peter Is he still working on his throwing arm?
- 21:35I hope he is, because we're going to need at least one fake
- 21:39pass to win some at least one or two more.
- 21:42He's got to get a little bit more juice on the next one.
- 21:44Yeah, you can't do that. Now, I don't think you'll be
- 21:48passing anymore. But on the other hand, you know,
- 21:50we might do something crazy. You still want to have that in
- 21:54your back pocket, it is good for him, but legitimately I can say
- 21:59this if Peter Moore was a bad punter, the season would Be
- 22:02worse. Oh yeah, I mean field position
- 22:05is has been huge if we could just I mean we haven't turned
- 22:11the ball over a lot, but if we could stop, you know, given that
- 22:14one turnover, a game and giving the offense the other offenses
- 22:18short field, I mean, yeah, we be averaging about, you know, three
- 22:23to six points less surrendered on defense and that that's
- 22:28probably an extra winner to so yeah, Peter more fields.
- 22:32Mission making the other offense Drive the field.
- 22:36It's worked in our favor so far. So keep it up bud.
- 22:40You know job. All right news about Devon
- 22:43hundred Dean Ferguson Dean obviously I do not recall seeing
- 22:49under Keshawn ones out there. Devon obviously hurt during the
- 22:53game both out for the year. Definitely hurts depth at
- 22:59positions where we're okay? I think it hurts a linebacker
- 23:03and a little bit more, I think Dean's kind of looking like that
- 23:07next guy. Yeah.
- 23:09Now Keshawn is going to get the rotations and Keyshawn to me.
- 23:13He made some errors Saturday, but overall for his half he
- 23:17played solid. Yeah.
- 23:20I've got no, big-time notes. There were a couple times where
- 23:24the defense look like, they weren't quite aligned and that
- 23:26was probably the area that he was going to be the most
- 23:31uncomfortable with just Because that does take reps, and just
- 23:36being out there. Consistently do.
- 23:37It's hard to get the mental reps of making those calls and get
- 23:40everybody and seeing everything in real time because say what
- 23:44you will, you can practice it, but if you don't sometimes see
- 23:46in the other team, do it. It just, it feels different.
- 23:49You just got to get a feel for it.
- 23:51So that's one thing. I mean, obviously, you know,
- 23:55Devin Hunter. We thought he was going to play
- 23:57a little bit more of a role in The Roots rotation at safety.
- 24:00Has it really been that been primarily a specialty?
- 24:02Teams player still has hell. Yeah, hell of a story.
- 24:07The fact the fact that he's even on this team and making any
- 24:11impact was a big story so you know, sad to see him go down
- 24:15with the injury, on a special Team snap this past week.
- 24:18So yeah, best best of luck to them healing up but on the next
- 24:27on to the next, well, the next brine is Sunday night.
- 24:32Yeah. Yeah, it's a big one, gold
- 24:35miners, or podcast, Colts Niners.
- 24:38One of the teams will be at three wins.
- 24:42You guys will likely get Jimmy G or potentially Nate subfield.
- 24:48Yikes I'm not I have your the Colts defense and fantasy.
- 24:51I'm not benching them. They're playing and teaching
- 24:54them but I don't know I just I don't feel good about the way
- 25:02everything's been handled way Brandon.
- 25:04I uh been handled the way the whole quarterback situation has
- 25:08been handled, you know, I really think y'all are probably going
- 25:15to win the game. I think it's going to be a fun
- 25:16game to watch. Yeah, we're definitely trending
- 25:19in the right, right direction. The last few weeks even even
- 25:23taking the loss to Baltimore, you know.
- 25:26We showed the one that guy that won that game.
- 25:29I know, I know. But so you're showing fighting
- 25:32showing that, you know, we could take care and run run with
- 25:36pretty much anybody in the league.
- 25:39Yeah you know few steps in a couple games and we're for and
- 25:42to instead of two and four so well and I'm the same way with
- 25:47those weird. Two and three.
- 25:48And we've lost the last three weeks by three, seven and seven
- 25:51and we've lost to Aaron Russell and collar.
- 25:56Yep. And we kept collar under 20
- 25:58points where the only team to do that this year.
- 26:01So in literally, with Rogers, we were here that out Sunday night
- 26:07without episode. Literally we scored with 40
- 26:10seconds. Left and 42nd was just too much
- 26:13time and we couldn't stop it. Yep.
- 26:16We've lost by a combined 17 points to best team in the
- 26:21league. One of the best quarterbacks in
- 26:25the league and another of the best quarterbacks in the league.
- 26:28Yeah. Well, what can we do?
- 26:30And we're kind of the same same thing as me.
- 26:32We lost a Russell, we lost to the Rams.
- 26:35And then we had a singular fourth quarter takeover by Lamar
- 26:39Jackson to throw us another L and then just a grind Fest that
- 26:44we came up short on against Tennessee.
- 26:46Yeah. And y'all in y'all also have
- 26:48been battling injuries, everybody that will injuries but
- 26:52with your quarterback Bang. And you're all pro-gard.
- 26:56Bang a little different. The defense was a little banged
- 27:00up, you know, I think we're finally getting a little healthy
- 27:03and I think a lot of guys have settled in we get T why bag that
- 27:07was a kind of a lift this past week.
- 27:09So I think it's I think it's gonna be a good game regardless
- 27:12probably I would go, I don't know what the over-under is but
- 27:18I'd probably take the under in this one just because I think
- 27:20it's going to be more defensive than, than that.
- 27:24People think. Oh, yeah, it's definitely too.
- 27:26It's definitely two top. Ten defense has without a doubt
- 27:29and the over-under Net game for Santa is 44.
- 27:32So I think they've actually got that pig.
- 27:35That's about right? Yeah, right.
- 27:37And it's yours a four-point, favor actually.
- 27:42Weirdly in the for. Okay.
- 27:45They are given us home two plus two.
- 27:49Somebody else get hurt. You don't know about or is
- 27:51Carson limping around that you don't know.
- 27:53No not that I know of I know T. Why is he had a little bit of a
- 27:59quad? I mean at the end of the game
- 28:01but he's they said he's good to go for the game.
- 28:03So Hmm. Interesting, interesting.
- 28:07All right Brian before we get into reviewing the Syracuse
- 28:11offense and defense and knowing the enemy.
- 28:13We are going to take a quick pause for a message from our
- 28:16digital partners. As we take a quick break, we'd

- 28:35Grassroots digital studio.com forward slash free Dash website,
- 28:40Dash report. Now back to the episode Alright
- 28:45guys, so Know The Enemy we're going to take a look first at
- 28:48Syracuse has offense and Brian you kind of noted to me.
- 28:52This is a power, smash power, Smash Mouth spread, heavy read
- 28:55option and we see it. So we're going to kick it off
- 28:58with the offensive line. You know, that offense is
- 29:01average and 231 yards a game. They've only given up twenty
- 29:05four tackles for loss 38th in the nation, only 103 yards on
- 29:09that. So just that four yards, which
- 29:13Is it for tackle for a loss? That's unbelievable.
- 29:17It's really good. Just again, how much they run.
- 29:20They've only given up 15 sacks. Now, I will say this, they've
- 29:23only passed the ball 175 times, so they are giving up sacks
- 29:27about 15% of their drop backs. Maybe a little something to take
- 29:31an I own, but what are you seeing from this offensive line?
- 29:37Because I wish we were running for 231 yards a game.
- 29:41I think we wouldn't have lost a game yet.
- 29:44Yeah, the big thing like you've already noted there but they
- 29:46really don't have a lot of negative plays on the offensive
- 29:50side of the ball. They work well as a unit and
- 29:54they do a really good job of minimizing penetration in the
- 29:56backfield. There's no real standout player
- 29:59per se, but there, I mean, there's just a bunch of really
- 30:02good solid players across the board that do their jobs.
- 30:05Well, they're above average in past Pro.
- 30:08They do have the propensity on some of the drawbacks because
- 30:10they don't pass often when they are passing, it's in those
- 30:13moments. More obvious passing situations
- 30:16that can tend to, you know, cause that sack ratio to get a
- 30:21little bit out of whack, but they just do a really good job
- 30:26of pushing, guys off the line really good.
- 30:30You know, ball get off. And it's going to be a long day
- 30:34for that that defensive line, they're going to have to work
- 30:38the whole game and it's going to be a struggle.
- 30:42Yep. Bravo's don't fuck this up.
- 30:44Sorry, man, 52. Now, bottom five and maybe the
- 30:53one big upside and some people are heard Saul somewhere.
- 30:56If it was a tweet or maybe in conversations with someone,
- 31:01they're like, well this is like what Notre Dame did but
- 31:03souped-up the difference is though we do not go into the
- 31:09Notre Dame game prepared for it. The if you were, if he came in
- 31:15it was like if he comes in it's going to be a play at least with
- 31:18this. We have that prep time and Brawn
- 31:22we absolutely need to prep time because Sean Tucker the 510
- 31:26200-pound running back. I'm out of Townsend.
- 31:29Maryland a three-star. He is second in the country and
- 31:32Russia he is at 948 yards. He's averaging over 6 Carrie.
- 31:38He's ninth and touchdowns. He's got nine already in seven
- 31:42games. He's not a he's not a one.
- 31:45One trick pony. Either 224 yards receiving on 14
- 31:49catches with a couple touchdowns there much like Khalil Herbert
- 31:54was last year. He's top five.
- 31:56He's number two and all-purpose yards.
- 31:59Yep. What are you seeing from mr.
- 32:03Tucker on the tape. The thing that jumps off
- 32:07immediately is that he runs hard through arm tackles, he has
- 32:11great vision and patients at the point of attack but he does when
- 32:16he gets to the second level he is a big play threat.
- 32:19He's got second level speeds, got home run speed.
- 32:22If he gets in the open field, he will make you pay and he is
- 32:26deceptively good in the screen and short passing game, they run
- 32:31him a lot on kind of like those quick running back outs.
- 32:34They get the ball to him in the Green game and he's just really
- 32:37good at turning up field getting good yardage making guys, miss.
- 32:42And like I said, the big thing for him is that he is a home run
- 32:45threat. So it's not just a guy that we
- 32:46have to contain and make sure he doesn't, you know, nickel and
- 32:50dime has, but we also got to stop him from banging.
- 32:53The big play on us. I hear you Brian and the thing
- 32:58that I kind of noticed about their offensive there's nobody
- 33:02behind him, really? He is the horse dip, right?
- 33:07He is 11, he's not there's not an A or B, there's not a spelled
- 33:11a true spell there. This this is his show.
- 33:15So you know, it's key obviously the stop him and when you hear
- 33:18all those things especially that second level, I mean that's what
- 33:23we're missing, right? The other method than the home
- 33:25run. Hitter like we had last year
- 33:28and, you know, it's really funny because every year it's like
- 33:33this is why football is one of the more amazing Sports
- 33:36three-star guy out of Maryland, we didn't recruit him on the UVA
- 33:40recruited him, he had like four or five offers it goes up to
- 33:43Syracuse and now he's I'm sure what that skillset, Brian.
- 33:48He's probably already being looked at in the NFL because
- 33:51again with the scheme with the past catching ability, I mean,
- 33:55he's putting on tape. I don't know if he's a senior
- 33:58Junior. I did not look that far.
- 34:00I want to say. You have that information up.
- 34:04I thought he was a junior, but I'm not certain.
- 34:07Give me a second here. I had everything up.
- 34:10I needed earlier and I completely took it down.
- 34:15Completely took it down. There we go.
- 34:21Effort in here. I just want to see where he's
- 34:22at, because I see a guy like this and especially the kind of
- 34:26scheme, they're running. I would not mind him in San
- 34:28Francisco. We're still efforting folks.
- 34:33I'm going to get there eventually freshman.
- 34:36Sorry, he's a, he's a roll, he's a second year, freshman, ouch,
- 34:42that hurts for him. You're not supposed to blow up
- 34:44your second year, freshman year, you're supposed to grow up your
- 34:46third year, you can get through this.
- 34:49All right? So but Again, with the crossover
- 34:51being Atlantic, we're not going to probably see him again.
- 34:54All right, Brian? There is one more element to
- 34:56this rushing attack in. That is the Mississippi State
- 35:00transfer, who was a four-star out of Charlotte, 64, 230
- 35:05pounds, Garrett Schrader passing stats, very pedestrian.
- 35:09Obviously we've already said that's not what they're going to
- 35:11do. You know, only completing 53
- 35:14percent of his passes for 810 yards, five touchdowns three
- 35:17interceptions but buddy, Kenny run the ball. 400 400 plus
- 35:22yards, averaging over five carry nine touchdowns.
- 35:28What are you seeing from this big athletic guy?
- 35:30Who transferred from Mississippi State and 2020.
- 35:33Why didn't we? Well I guess if we're talking
- 35:38Mississippi State transfer Syracuse got the better of that
- 35:41against UVA, right? That's true.
- 35:44That's it. And that's no disrespect to
- 35:48their football player football player but yeah, in terms of
- 35:55actually on the field production, Garrett Schrader's,
- 35:58get it done for them, he's an absolute legit.
- 36:01Rushing thread in that offense can run past you and
- 36:05occasionally run over you. He will put a shoulder into you
- 36:09and kind of plow forward for that first down, adequate arm
- 36:13strength, he's not swinging it deep.
- 36:16Accuracy is very average but he does just enough to compliment
- 36:21the rushing attack. But what he really is great at
- 36:24is that read-option, he's really, he's got a knack for
- 36:27when to keep it when he keeps it he makes takes it up.
- 36:31Field gets good yardage in the Run game so he really has a good
- 36:34feel for that and that's what's been able to keep this thing
- 36:37moving. Because you know, even when you
- 36:39do stack the box they're still because there's that that
- 36:42element there. It's hard to really get a, get a
- 36:45good feel for it on defense. That's right.
- 36:47So what are they like? I mean you mentioned
- 36:49read-option. I mean is it just strict
- 36:51read-option, he's going the opposite way, are they running
- 36:53any inverted beers and he leads any powers with them?
- 36:57It's a little bit of everything, not so much the inverted v r but
- 36:59a little bit of everything else, but it's probably it's primarily
- 37:03the read option that that's their bread and butter, okay?
- 37:07So, they're not, they're not doing a lot of other stuff.
- 37:09They're essentially in, why would you with a guy like tuck?
- 37:12It's in the play but like other stuff is in the Playbook, but
- 37:16it's more of Say it's dialed up at specific times.
- 37:19It's not something that they're calling every drive.
- 37:23Just from looking at how the they're calling their games.
- 37:29I guess because of the jailed offensive line into threats like
- 37:32that the lack of a passing attack really doesn't hurt them
- 37:35that much. It doesn't hurt them too much it
- 37:40only hurts them when you can do a good job on 1st and 2nd down
- 37:43and get them off schedule. Like I said the the a don't
- 37:48really pass the ball unless they have to.
- 37:49It's not quite Georgia Tech levels of real whistling in the
- 37:53ball on, you know, third and ten when we're down a touchdown or
- 37:58more. It's not quite that level but it
- 38:01is, they're not going to put the ball.
- 38:05It's it's going to be if if they're going to put the ball in
- 38:09a receivers hand and it's not in a third and long situation, it's
- 38:13in the short passing game usually to Sean Tucker.
- 38:18Yeah. Because you've already mentioned
- 38:20it their wide receivers have not done much.
- 38:23I would say keep an eye out for Courtney Jackson.
- 38:28Definitely their lead. A wide receiver but also watch
- 38:31out for this team. A big guy wide receiver, 66
- 38:34Damian Alfred, he's only got about 12 catches but he's
- 38:38averaging over 20. Excuse me, only has about seven
- 38:41catches. He's averaging over 20, catch
- 38:44those. So that big guy, they
- 38:46potentially just Chuck it up to downfield.
- 38:48But like you said Tucker, with what he does, he is essentially,
- 38:55I think he is actually leading the team.
- 38:59Which is kind of, if you're a Syracuse fan, that's kind of a
- 39:02little bit sad, right? Like the running back, leading
- 39:05our team in passing catching, he is, he's leading the team in
- 39:08pass-catching. So for us, we're not going any
- 39:14more offensive players. Disrupt their line.
- 39:18Stop these two guys we win this football game.
- 39:21Yep. That's it.
- 39:23Yeah. And because nothing's nothing
- 39:26scares me about third and long them dropping back and having to
- 39:30get it into a wide receiver consistently.
- 39:32Yeah, nothing about that scares. Me and every game they've lost
- 39:36this year or three, the three ACC games they've lost is all
- 39:39been three points. They lost to Rutgers by 10 so
- 39:44it's not like the losses are all they lost it.
- 39:47FSU they lost a Clemson. They're getting their doors
- 39:49normal. Know they easily.
- 39:51Could have won those games as they did lose them.
- 39:54So that's kind of the worry part in the other War Paulette slip
- 39:57it over. Brian, their defense is good.
- 40:00I mean, Tony whites defense. He's a walking long disciple.
- 40:05If you're watching San Diego State and some of the late
- 40:07games, this year, always a grind Fest.
- 40:11You know, what type of defense is he running hearing on good
- 40:16old? 35 stack baby.
- 40:19Godly have we not seen that. Let's think we've seen that as
- 40:23either a base or as a multiple front of like three defense has
- 40:29so far. Exactly.
- 40:30Three defense has so far. I'm trying to think it would
- 40:32have been Notre Dame West Virginia.
- 40:36And now it yet Notre Dame in West Virginia.
- 40:39Both have 33 as one of their one of their fronts that they will
- 40:43show. All right, this is this is the
- 40:45first true 335 base where you're going to see that look pretty
- 40:51much every snap in some way, shape, or form.
- 40:56And the big guy up front that you got to watch out for is Cody
- 41:00Roscoe. He is the defensive end.
- 41:03He is an absolute disgrace. Disruptor in the Run, game gets
- 41:08really good. Penetration loves the time the
- 41:11snap count and just kind of blow up an offensive play.
- 41:15He's also an Elite pass rusher from that that kind of you know,
- 41:20that three-man front D and position.
- 41:23Does it does a really good job of impacting the game from
- 41:25there? And he absolutely must be
- 41:29neutralized for any sustained success in the ground game,
- 41:33whether you run a dim or away from him, he does a good job of
- 41:36making plays and get into the football.
- 41:39Yeah, well that doesn't make me feel good but I tell you what
- 41:44kind of crazy as his backstory. Braun Roscoe's, from Houston
- 41:47Texas. He came out as a 2 Star.
- 41:52Now, listen to this, he came out as a 2 Star inside linebacker,
- 41:56when he came out. Ha, ha ha kid.
- 41:58You not, he, he, he originally went to McNeese State and then
- 42:04with covid happening to me, any state that division essentially
- 42:08canceling, he transferred over to Syracuse in 2020 and he's 61,
- 42:14he's 275. So he's even you think three
- 42:17technique, even a little bit undersized for a three
- 42:19technique? But obviously, the way you
- 42:21mentioned the get off the Paul mean he's killing.
- 42:23He's got thirty, three tackles, he's got seven and a half sacks.
- 42:27X and ten tackles for loss. So he's getting a sack of game.
- 42:31Um, you know, is he primarily on the left or the right side of
- 42:36the offensive line, when he lines up, he's primarily lining
- 42:41up on the offense has left, right?
- 42:44So he will go against one of our better.
- 42:47Guys in Libya, at least we are going somewhat big on big in
- 42:51that situation. All right?
- 42:53Yeah but he's not the only problem Brian the next to look
- 42:57at is we're going to take a look.
- 42:59At Stephen Thompson, Malik Jones Jones, 61 220 64.
- 43:06Tackles one sack five-and-a-half, tackles for
- 43:09loss had four interceptions last year.
- 43:12Should definitely have some ball skills.
- 43:13There he comes from ING as a three-star to me.
- 43:17I don't you don't play it. I am G as a three-star, so
- 43:20probably somebody missed an eval on him Thompson, 612, 3543
- 43:26tackles three tackles for loss Two forced fumbles, his numbers
- 43:31are already starting to look significantly better than its
- 43:332020 year. He's out of Charlotte
- 43:36three-star. Guy, what are you seeing out of
- 43:39this Duo? Who's the Mike who's the will,
- 43:41and what do they bring to the table?
- 43:43So you have three backer said in both of these guys are the
- 43:46outside, guys. So this is the will and the Sam
- 43:49for Jones and Thompson respectively, their primary
- 43:54blitzers from the linebacker position.
- 43:56So, you know, they usually bring the three-man front.
- 43:59And usually an extra guy most Downs, sometimes that's the Mike
- 44:03but usually it's going to be Sam or will they both do a really
- 44:08good job blitzing and the run and the past and they do a good
- 44:14job remaining under control when they're coming down hill in
- 44:17those run blitzes. I think that's that's important
- 44:19because a lot of times some of those guys come out of control,
- 44:22they end up making the whole wider than it needs to be and
- 44:25you get a big Ali up the gut, they don't do that.
- 44:28They're pretty pretty sound in that and neither are our
- 44:32liabilities and coverage, they're actually pretty good.
- 44:34They primarily cover the tight end or running back in coverage
- 44:37responsibilities, they'll have different areas of the field in
- 44:41zone but they do a good job in both of those techniques and you
- 44:46got to account for them every snap.
- 44:48And, you know, the only upside is that, you know, coming from
- 44:52second level unless they time it different.
- 44:55You can least see where they're coming from, but the big
- 44:58problem, That you don't know which ones coming at you at any
- 45:01given snap. All right, well, obviously a
- 45:04good. You go there on the outside?
- 45:06Obviously making noise making numbers.
- 45:10I think what worries me? Well, what?
- 45:12What I would say would worry me would be the running back in the
- 45:15tight end stuff but how we've called our offense, the last few
- 45:19weeks there's really no concern there for it because we aren't
- 45:23putting that in the Playbook. We're not throwing to our tight
- 45:26ends or H bags, or running bags with any degree of consistency.
- 45:30The last few weeks. It seems like as soon as As we
- 45:34lost James Mitchell, those elements of the offense kind of
- 45:37went bye-bye, which is kind of weird.
- 45:41Yeah, yeah, the HVAC being being like a linchpin of the Fuente
- 45:45offense and now it's, you know, we get one injury and we can
- 45:50completely move away from. I don't know if that's lack of
- 45:52trust in the guys that we still have their or if it's just
- 45:56designed the end that you'd it is ineptitude because we Talked
- 46:02about it when James went down, right?
- 46:04Although you weren't perfect, they're not James, James is an
- 46:07Elite Talent gallo and Drake have Their good qualities and
- 46:15we're not seeing it. They're using Gallo exactly like
- 46:18they used to when James Mitchell is on the field.
- 46:20They're not taking they've taken advantage like one time of
- 46:23Drake's athleticism so it's ineptitude, they don't like it
- 46:29soon as you take something off the table for this offensive
- 46:31staff is like what do we do? What do we do?
- 46:33I don't, we don't know what to do.
- 46:35I don't know to do my fingers, I don't know what to do.
- 46:37I think the I think the bad part is that, that yeah, they did
- 46:39finally go to Gallo. He had that drop, I think On a
- 46:42third down against your last week and then as soon as soon as
- 46:48I have it, all right, well you're back in the doghouse,
- 46:50like go blog. You give these guys some
- 46:53confidence like trust that they're going to make some
- 46:55plays. I mean, right now, they're not
- 46:58playing with confidence and you're not doing anything to
- 47:00help them gain confidence. All right, so as good as they
- 47:03have really solid players at the first and second levels, even
- 47:08though this guy is not leading the team in interceptions, even
- 47:11though he You know he has some good stats but Garrett William
- 47:16six-foot, 190 defensive back. 32 tackles three tackles for loss
- 47:21is zero interceptions. The guy's got six past
- 47:24deflections already this year. He's out of Harrisburg, North
- 47:28Carolina. He was a three-star when he came
- 47:30out. What are you seeing from
- 47:33Williams? Its heat.
- 47:35Is he making these numbers because he's like a nickel or is
- 47:37he playing on the outside? He's played on the outside, he's
- 47:40actually there. Lockdown guy.
- 47:42Why? So, he doesn't get targeted a
- 47:46ton. He doesn't have the stats
- 47:48because they're not throwing at him.
- 47:49A ton. They're not testing him a ton,
- 47:51and when they do, he's getting in there and breaking things up
- 47:55here. You know, they tend to put him
- 47:57on, whoever the Deep threat is for the offense.
- 48:01And while he has given up a couple deep balls, he gave up
- 48:04one against Wake Forest in particular.
- 48:06That I remember, which I know that that is a, the, a unique
- 48:10way of how they go deep in that, Pain.
- 48:12So that's a little different, but has given up a couple big
- 48:16plays but has also came in there and broken up some really key
- 48:20plays as well that that stopped the other offense from from
- 48:24getting touchdown. So he's going to be the guy to
- 48:26watch. He's the guy that you know,
- 48:28could potentially cause Trey Turner to have a long day.
- 48:34Wouldn't surprise me whatsoever and just, you know, again,
- 48:37Syracuse was looked at potentially the laughingstock of
- 48:42the ACC. We both pick that we'd win this
- 48:44game. I think we might be whoo.
- 48:48Yeah, but I made a boo-boo there, but, you know, their top
- 48:5210 and sacks their top 20 Total Defense.
- 48:56The only given up 114, rushing yards a game So they are a good
- 49:01defense, there are three and four.
- 49:03But you know, the defense is definitely not the reason.
- 49:08And the way the offense plays Brian, let's flip it over to the
- 49:118th of version of the Hokies. Can the offense just do
- 49:16something anything. Can they anything?
- 49:19Anything? Anything.
- 49:21It's don't look a pathetic. Don't look, no.
- 49:24Good luck competent for at least.
- 49:27Three quarters. And that's where it's just like.
- 49:31It's so tough to see it because there's there's so much bad
- 49:36going on right? Yep.
- 49:38So much bad going on that like you've always talked about keep
- 49:44things. Simple, do things simple.
- 49:47And that's a and they're trying even lower than that to me
- 49:51there. Some of the stuff they're
- 49:53running is like, I don't want to say pee wee football but it's
- 49:57definitely middle or high school football that we're going to do
- 50:00this and this and this and you're sitting here like the
- 50:02guys over there and that Booth are getting paid three, four
- 50:07hundred, five hundred thousand dollars.
- 50:09Some more to stop this, not think they're going to see it.
- 50:13Yep. You got think they're going to
- 50:15see what you're doing. So you know, sorry for the rant
- 50:21know. You said there were two other
- 50:22big keys for you. Yeah, it's the two other keys
- 50:26are going to be keep time of possession, even much as they
- 50:30run the football if we can keep time of possession, even that
- 50:32probably bodes well for the outcome of the game for us.
- 50:37And the last thing is and I've said this is kind of been a
- 50:40weekly theme since what? Middle Tennessee, not thy sin.
- 50:47It's since West Virginia. West Virginia is Middle
- 50:51Tennessee. You hated what?
- 50:52They did that. They didn't try to get him
- 50:54comfortable. Yeah.
- 50:55So yeah, since West Virginia get Braixen, Burmeister comfortable
- 51:00early, give him easy throws. Give him throws.
- 51:04He's comfortable with get him in a Groove.
- 51:09So that when you do start adding in those intermediate and deeper
- 51:12routes into the offense, as the as the plays go along as the
- 51:17series go along, you know, he's throwing those with confidence,
- 51:21their receivers have confidence in him there, making plays for
- 51:24him. It kind of feeds off of each
- 51:27other right now, we don't have any confidence on that offense.
- 51:31They're like, afraid to make mistakes and because they're
- 51:34afraid to make mistakes. They're not making plays.
- 51:40It's true and they're afraid to make mistakes.
- 51:43They're not being put in good positions, there's no
- 51:47aggressiveness. There's, it's almost like
- 51:50someone thinks it's a coded year again.
- 51:52And well, this year, doesn't matter.
- 51:55Because we've heard those stories, right?
- 51:58Yeah. We're not.
- 51:59We're not dealing with that this year, guys, know, we're not
- 52:01dealing with that at all this year.
- 52:03All right. Let me ask this brine.
- 52:05Let's go over to the defensive side of the ball real quick.
- 52:09And I told you, this was my thought.
- 52:11I think we have to almost those but elements in this defense, we
- 52:15see. I think they have to be in full
- 52:17force with this game. I think even early, I know you
- 52:21mentioned to me, we should look at some cover threes, I think.
- 52:25Early, early cover, 1 cover zeros, press man, load the line
- 52:34essentially, if they beat our prayer.
- 52:37Well, bear little bear, like, do not let them get this running
- 52:43angle, if you want, if they take, if they take shots and
- 52:48they hit three big shots, and they beat us.
- 52:50So, be it, do not let their strength beat you. by trying to
- 52:56go off kilter The next thing we need to do is tackling must be.
- 53:06What it was against UNC and not will be seen up and down since
- 53:10West Virginia. We got to tackle.
- 53:14Well we can't we definitely can't tackle like we did last
- 53:17week. We absolutely cannot tackle like
- 53:19we did against Notre Dame or West Virginia.
- 53:24And the last thing man we gotta we gotta Force turnovers because
- 53:27I think we're going to need some good field position to generate
- 53:30some points against this defense.
- 53:33So turnovers are going to have to be there.
- 53:34We you know we I don't know we haven't really got the status on
- 53:38on wall or yet whether he's going to be going.
- 53:42Not so very concerning their, although with their with their
- 53:49defense, you know, as long as they don't get to the outside
- 53:55especially against Dorian, since he still undersized there,
- 54:01that's okay. To me, like, if water is not
- 54:05here, this isn't the week that we were there going three, why?
- 54:08They're not going to throw it all over the place on us, but
- 54:11I'm more thinking. I'm from from a ball Hawk
- 54:13standpoint. If they're going through the
- 54:15ball up, I want Germaine wall or out there to grab it.
- 54:18Yeah. Jack got you.
- 54:19You want for that? Well, I mean the other part of
- 54:21the defense is I think we've got to have a special teams
- 54:23touchdown in some way shape or form and I think the what you
- 54:27said that turnover, it's got to happen.
- 54:30It's got to have D happened, deep in their territory because
- 54:33I can't see this offense driving the ball more.
- 54:39Maybe twice on this defense. Maybe twice. so, I mean, Yeah,
- 54:49there's a lot of things that have to go our way.
- 54:51This weekend against, this is against a 3 and 14.
- 54:55This is in against the one-loss, team, this isn't against 5 and 2
- 54:58team is against a 3 and 14 and this is how we're talking.
- 55:02Yeah, we're playing tight against a team that at the
- 55:05beginning of the year, we thought was you know a book, it
- 55:07w and you know credit to them and you know discredit to sell
- 55:15them short and or or at least us Even more confidence, in what we
- 55:20thought this product was going to be and start of the year,
- 55:23what it is. So we'll take the L on that one
- 55:28lies. You told you told him, we told
- 55:31him we saw something that wasn't there and we got sold a bill of
- 55:34goods that weren't good. So let's sell the bill of goods
- 55:37for this week. Brian, let's get the predictions
- 55:39out here on. I'm not a bleep.
- 55:43I'm gonna, I'm gonna lead. All right.
- 55:44All right, go for it. I think the Hokies are actually
- 55:48going to win this game. I think if you are sitting on
- 55:52your couch or in a bar, whatever you like to drink, Keep the
- 55:59bottle near you or the six-pack near you because you're going to
- 56:02need a lot of it to stomach this one.
- 56:03I think we win 2120. I do think we get at least one
- 56:10defensive or special teams touchdown and I think we get one
- 56:14additional defense sets up the offense for the win.
- 56:18Okay. What we want to want me and I
- 56:20think I do think ham will be ready for This rushing attack
- 56:27even though it's been kind of our weakness, at least is
- 56:31something we have prepped for this week.
- 56:34It's something you prep for and you don't have the passing
- 56:37element to really, you know, scare you here.
- 56:40It's very much a you can focus on the rush, take away the rush
- 56:46and more than likely you're going to be okay on the back
- 56:48end. Yeah, I'm not as confident as
- 56:51you and the outcome though, we got a one point win.
- 56:54My confidence isn't like I've got a four-point loss.
- 56:59I've got a 2420 Syracuse Victory.
- 57:03It's totally on the distrust of the offense and not knowing not
- 57:09having confidence that they can score more than two touchdowns.
- 57:15I think that's just where I'm at.
- 57:17At this point. Unfortunately, I think the
- 57:19defense does enough and gives the offense some chances there
- 57:22but they don't take advantage of enough of them.
- 57:26Like last week. Yeah, exactly.
- 57:28Like last week, hers, first two drives with the game stand.
- 57:32Nearly a block punt, 50-yard line, two yards.
- 57:36Yeah, and the defense kept that game as close as it could for
- 57:41the first half in the offense decided, we're not gonna do
- 57:45anything. Nothing, nothing yet and I don't
- 57:47think it's the players. I think the players are given
- 57:49full effort out there. I think it is the coaching.
- 57:54Staff, completely. And we've already had this
- 57:56conversation. I think if you put, I think if
- 57:59you put guys like Trey Turner Taylor Robinson, some of the
- 58:02running backs. I know, we haven't looked good.
- 58:07But if you putting everybody in a bad position like I'm sure
- 58:10you're sitting here Braun and this is probably Bryan's.
- 58:13Brain James Mitchell goes out. You've been using Rahim.
- 58:16Blackshear is primarily a running back.
- 58:19All right. Screw James is gone.
- 58:21Change your offense put him somewhere where he can be
- 58:24dynamic. Nope, we're not going to let him
- 58:26be dynamic. We're going to let him be right
- 58:27here. And I feel for that kid because
- 58:31I think he was sold a bad bill of goods.
- 58:33Like, come here, we're going to use you and you're going to get
- 58:35all these touches and in Ality. Now you can again a fired
- 58:40Rutgers regime got more out of Raheem Blackshear than we have
- 58:44in to seize a well-seasoned and a half.
- 58:46Is he eligible next year? I think so.
- 58:51All right. Maybe we get a new staff in
- 58:53here. We could.
- 58:55We could have discuss. All right, Ron, let's flip it.
- 58:59Let's talk about some other games will be watching on
- 59:01Saturday. First of all, let's go.
- 59:05Year-to-date. We already discussed it Sunday.
- 59:08You went five and five last week.
- 59:09I want seven and three. I'm at 40 and 32 you're at 35
- 59:13and 37. Have you done any different,
- 59:17analytical scouting this week or got any?
- 59:22I'm making a comeback this week, man.
- 59:25This is my week to make some moves.
- 59:27I'm going at least 73 this week. All right.
- 59:30Least 73. So he's going to probably pick
- 59:33against me at least six times tonight.
- 59:34Everybody go ahead and write that down.
- 59:36All right, let's heart Army and wait, Army and wake wake laying
- 59:42three points. In this game, run, this game is
- 59:46going to be one of the twelve Thirty early kicks for the ACC
- 59:50and we was the moment here, it is actually going to be at West
- 59:54Point. So up in new, Armies for and two
- 59:58going to be on CBS Sports Network.
- 1:00:01What do you think about this one?
- 1:00:02Brian. You've got the kind of new age
- 1:00:05offense versus the old school offense?
- 1:00:09Yeah, I think I like wait to cover this.
- 1:00:12I think weeks going to take care of business.
- 1:00:17I just think that some of the things they do on that offense
- 1:00:19is going to cause some problems for Army.
- 1:00:22I think wakes defense is going to be good enough to kind of
- 1:00:25slow that attack. Down, that rushing attack down.
- 1:00:29But again, it's at home. Army.
- 1:00:31Probably lengthens that game or shortens that game.
- 1:00:33I should say to the point where wakes got to be pretty, pretty
- 1:00:38perfect, but I still like wake to close it up.
- 1:00:41Yeah, I am with you on that. I'm not.
- 1:00:44Not like doing this just to spite you.
- 1:00:47So, yeah, I'm with you. I also think with wake, it's
- 1:00:52their defense, they're not full of athletes.
- 1:00:55They're full of good sound disciplined football players,
- 1:00:58right? When you're going against Army,
- 1:01:00what do you need? Good sound disciplined football,
- 1:01:03players who know where the balls going?
- 1:01:08A lot of people you know screen for years.
- 1:01:11Why did buds defense struggled, so much with Georgia Tech
- 1:01:15because it was athletes who attack you can't attack the
- 1:01:19triple option, you can attack the wing option, whatever you
- 1:01:22want to call it. So I think wake I think weight
- 1:01:26wins like that 10. I think whenever weight gets the
- 1:01:28ball they score and I think they'll get four to five
- 1:01:31possessions. Something like 3121 is what I'm
- 1:01:35feeling on this one. All right Brian, the next one.
- 1:01:39Here is U Mass versus fsu's at 12:00 kick.
- 1:01:45The over-under is 60, the last this you Lane 35 and a half.
- 1:01:52I know UMass is one in five and I know UMass has lost some
- 1:01:57games. But they have only had two
- 1:02:01games. They've had three games of their
- 1:02:03six that were over 35 and a half.
- 1:02:07I can't trust FSU. I know they're playing better.
- 1:02:10I just think 35 and a half. We'll just way way too much to
- 1:02:13lay. I will take you bass in the
- 1:02:15points. Not so fast my friend.
- 1:02:21Give me FSU. This is my, this is where I make
- 1:02:26up some Gap here. This is where I close the gap.
- 1:02:29This is where FSU doesn't screw me for once.
- 1:02:34Hopefully, so I'll take FSU and the points.
- 1:02:39I'll lay those points and I think, you know, we'll see what
- 1:02:42they do. They have been playing better.
- 1:02:45The next one is going to be the head scratcher, right?
- 1:02:48All the next one is just going to be.
- 1:02:50I'm Like I'm still, I'm literally might slip and flip a
- 1:02:55coin, then inside this one, the next one is the Clemson.
- 1:03:00And the pit game. This is going to be 3:30 kick
- 1:03:05that pit pit for the first time. I think they said in five years,
- 1:03:11the Louisville game going to Death Valley against Lamar.
- 1:03:15Clinton is not favored. In an ACC game, hit laying
- 1:03:19three. What's Seiya.
- 1:03:21Braun. I can't believe I'm doing this.
- 1:03:27I'm taking Kenny fucking picket padding are doozy and the Pitt
- 1:03:33Panthers. Over Clemson.
- 1:03:38I just don't Clemson's, offense is not share it specifically.
- 1:03:43DJ has not shown me that he's playing with enough confidence
- 1:03:49in what he's doing offensively to put up enough points against
- 1:03:53Pitt. I think pit will be able to put
- 1:03:55up Somewhere in the mid to Upper 20s against that Clemson
- 1:03:59defense. Because what they do kind of
- 1:04:03plays into the, the small weaknesses that the Clemson
- 1:04:06defense does have. So I think they will be able to
- 1:04:11get a few touchdowns, maybe a field goal or two, and I think
- 1:04:17they pull it out. So I think they cover that
- 1:04:19three, I'm gonna go not so fast. My friend.
- 1:04:24It spit, there's always gains where pit just craps the bed,
- 1:04:29right? When they shouldn't grab the
- 1:04:31bed. They've already done it once
- 1:04:32this year against Western Michigan and to me Clemson's got
- 1:04:41too much talent there too. Not eventually get out of this
- 1:04:48offensive rut, we know, DJ's a good quarterback.
- 1:04:50We saw that last year but the thing that I think everyone
- 1:04:56didn't think about was not so much him and I know he's
- 1:04:59struggling but I think there's some other element struggling.
- 1:05:03Their pit doesn't have the best defense, they held US 27, but if
- 1:05:09you saw in that game, there were numerous times where we had
- 1:05:11really good opportunities to potentially score and we Just
- 1:05:15crapped the bed, I'll take the three and I think Clemson pulls
- 1:05:19it. I think comes and pulls the
- 1:05:21upset and makes all things right in the world of ACC football.
- 1:05:28It's a weird time to say, Clemson pulls the upset in any
- 1:05:31in ACC matchup little lazy. It's Truman very, very good.
- 1:05:37Alright, next game, BC Louisville Louisville.
- 1:05:43Three and three Boston College at four and two.
- 1:05:47Louisville is Lane six and a half points.
- 1:05:51Louisville's last game they lost by a point to UVA.
- 1:05:54Essentially, they missed a field goal, right?
- 1:05:57Yep. Yep.
- 1:06:00And Boston College coming off a pretty bad loss to n.c. state.
- 1:06:06So you know I sit on this one Brian and it's his home-field
- 1:06:11worth six and a half is Louisville that Good.
- 1:06:13I've seen Louisville's offense score.
- 1:06:16Some I've seen their defense. Give up a lot, BC.
- 1:06:19Just had a play. Probably maybe the one of the
- 1:06:24better defenses. Not only in conference but
- 1:06:26probably, you know, in top 20 in the country.
- 1:06:29I'm going to take BC. Give me the six and a half.
- 1:06:32I'm going to take them to cover this game.
- 1:06:36Yeah, I'm going to take I'm going to take BC as well here.
- 1:06:38I think it's a bounce-back week for them.
- 1:06:42I think NC State is better than than we think.
- 1:06:45I think they're probably one of the three best teams in the ACC
- 1:06:48right now. So yeah I'll take be see here,
- 1:06:55hard to trust Louisville to close out a game and six and a
- 1:06:58half. It's probably just enough where
- 1:07:00I feel comfortable there abso-freakin'-lutely.
- 1:07:04All right. Well, let's jump out of the
- 1:07:05CeCe, Braun, and let's head down to the Alabama.
- 1:07:13Tennessee, game, third Saturday, in October, it's always been
- 1:07:18like that. It's one of the great traditions
- 1:07:19in college football and trying to look up here.
- 1:07:25Have you seen any news on hinted hooker tonight as he cleared
- 1:07:29after getting kind of malt at the end of the other game?
- 1:07:32You know, I have, I have not seen Let me check real quick.
- 1:07:40Same here. Now, pretty never do not 14.
- 1:07:45Optimistic Outlook. Optimistic Outlook.
- 1:07:56Day to day. So he could go.
- 1:07:59All right, either way, it's in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is laying 25
- 1:08:03and a half points. I even think when tendon hooker
- 1:08:12obviously Tennessee's defense will give up points.
- 1:08:16The whole question is, this is how much they give up early.
- 1:08:19How quick does neglect the gas off?
- 1:08:22if it was a guaranteed on you Hinton was playing I would
- 1:08:27probably take Tennessee what the points with him, not playing, we
- 1:08:32saw We saw how Joe Milton looked especially the how many
- 1:08:39overthrown passes it like only the first half, it was it was
- 1:08:44for bad ones, it was for bad ones in.
- 1:08:46Probably another one that you know, was questionable but he
- 1:08:51had one where the it was just a, it was a slaughter, a tight end,
- 1:08:55just streaking up the seam and just airmailed it by about 8
- 1:08:58yards like clothes. So yeah, I'm taking bam, I will
- 1:09:02lay the 25 and A half points, whether it be a injured hooker,
- 1:09:08or Milton. I don't think they stay close.
- 1:09:12Yeah, I'm going to do the same thing.
- 1:09:14I think it is. I think that line is about,
- 1:09:19right, but I feel like it's going to be about a about a four
- 1:09:21score game, so give me Bama Whether it's a banged-up hooker
- 1:09:29or whether it's, you know, more or less you like that, whether
- 1:09:36it's a banged-up hooker or a Milton that likes to sail the
- 1:09:40ball. I think that's not going to bode
- 1:09:42well for them. All right, let's go down to the
- 1:09:45Big 12 where Barry interesting game top 10.
- 1:09:50Oklahoma state who's number 8 at 6 and 0 coming off a big win
- 1:09:54over comeback. Win over Texas.
- 1:09:55Last week, goes up to Iowa, State up to Ames, be A330 kick
- 1:10:01our state forward and to Iowa State, pretty big number here is
- 1:10:07a seven-point favorite against okey state.
- 1:10:14What do you think on this one behind?
- 1:10:16Yeah, I'm taking Okie State all the way.
- 1:10:18I don't think there's a letdown game after the the win last
- 1:10:20week. I think they go out to handle
- 1:10:22their business. Kind of assert themselves as one
- 1:10:26of the teams to watch in that conference going forward.
- 1:10:29So I'll take Okie State here and I'm with you on this and it's
- 1:10:33not so much that, you know, I don't like Iowa State, it said,
- 1:10:38okey States playing a really good really good defense.
- 1:10:42This isn't your normal Well, Mike Gundy team where they're
- 1:10:44running and gunning and went beating teams.
- 1:10:47You know, 45-42, you know, every game this year 16 points,
- 1:10:53against Missouri State 23 against Tulsa 20 against Boise,
- 1:10:5720, against Kansas State, 14 against Baylor and 24, last week
- 1:11:02against Texas, you start doing that math?
- 1:11:05I mean, they're, they're basically given up right at 19,
- 1:11:0820 points of game and you. I will stay Matt Campbell, if
- 1:11:16you ask me tomorrow, without take him here, probably his
- 1:11:20recruiting has never been that good.
- 1:11:22I think he's a good football coach, but I'm with you bro.
- 1:11:26I've got to take a key State because I think defense travels
- 1:11:29I think that is going to be a heck of a game to watch.
- 1:11:32If you like 27, 24 games there on and I know some people don't
- 1:11:38like just like too much defense, but I think it's going to be a
- 1:11:41good old-fashioned. Yes.
- 1:11:43They're all right Brian the battle for the jeweled
- 1:11:47shillelagh USC, Notre Dame, Notre Dame is the favorite here
- 1:11:55laying seven points and this is the very very rare.
- 1:12:01Very, very rare. USC Notre Dame, 7:30 it and
- 1:12:07South Bend. Very rare.
- 1:12:13Very rare, USC 3 and 3 essentially waiting for James
- 1:12:19Franklin to come take over the program.
- 1:12:23Last time they were out, they got their doors blown off by
- 1:12:26Utah and it's kind of been that way just about every other week
- 1:12:33for them. They got the doors blown off by
- 1:12:35Oregon State. They got the doors blown off by
- 1:12:37Stanford. And honestly I don't think Notre
- 1:12:42Dame has the horsepower to blow the doors off but I think Notre
- 1:12:45Dame has the horsepower to win by more than seven points.
- 1:12:48Give me the Irish with the freemen defense, shutting them
- 1:12:51down 28:17 Irish. Okay, okay, I'm actually right
- 1:13:00there with you. I think this is a Good matchup
- 1:13:05for Notre Dame and I think they go out there and handle their
- 1:13:07business on defense. I think it is a somewhat low
- 1:13:11scoring game, that gets into the kind of Twenty Eight, Twenty
- 1:13:17Eight, twenty 28:17, somewhere in that range.
- 1:13:21Yeah, it'll probably be again, it'll probably be an
- 1:13:23entertaining game to watch and I don't actually, let me look at
- 1:13:29some of them might slave here. It actually might be maybe the
- 1:13:32most entertaining game in the nights.
- 1:13:34Wait to watch it. 7:30, Georgia Tech Virginia, NC State Miami,
- 1:13:42Ohio State Indiana, I don't know.
- 1:13:43Watch that change playing the Aggies, 21-point line on that.
- 1:13:49That's a pretty big line for their.
- 1:13:53Yeah. So Yeah, that might be.
- 1:13:58There is no Pac-12 after dark this week.
- 1:14:00There is a there is an early Sunday morning, whack action.
- 1:14:04If you want to look at a why they're so you know, if you're
- 1:14:09really a degenerate and want to stay up till 3:00 3:30 a.m.
- 1:14:13eastern standard time Hawaii, Mexico, Hawaii's up being 18.
- 1:14:20There is one more West Coast game Ron.
- 1:14:22We got to jump on here tonight and that is going to be where
- 1:14:25game day is. Yep, feeling like the game day
- 1:14:28of old going to an important, even though it's not the top
- 1:14:33matchup of the weekend, a important matchup for the Pac-12
- 1:14:38with organ and UCLA 3:30. So a 12:30 West Coast kick down
- 1:14:46in the Rose. Bowl number 10.
- 1:14:48Oregon is essentially a two-point dog here.
- 1:14:53What do you think on this game, buddy?
- 1:14:56Yeah, I'm going Oregon here. I think what UCLA doing is done
- 1:15:02is impressive, but I think Oregon just has a little bit
- 1:15:05more in the tank. They're going to be able to
- 1:15:07finish them off late and I think they pull a pretty narrow win
- 1:15:11out, maybe touchdown or less but definitely covers that too.
- 1:15:16Yeah, I'm with you I think we're just too good.
- 1:15:18A team did not take points. You know sometimes it's just
- 1:15:23like a principal player. I like UCLA's, a good story,
- 1:15:27gift their home team in their favorite, but it's two points
- 1:15:31are literally saying the Rose Bowl in Oregon traveling.
- 1:15:35From Eugene to La, is the difference in this game.
- 1:15:39It's not the difference. In this game.
- 1:15:40Organ is the more talented team. So, I'm definitely with you on
- 1:15:44that. All right.
- 1:15:46Brian. Anything breaking the left
- 1:15:49little while here. Nothing.
- 1:15:55I see man. Nothing I see.
- 1:15:58How do we met? Do we miss to pick homes?
- 1:16:02No, that's to do. We do Miami and NC State man.
- 1:16:08I forgot to put that one on here tonight.
- 1:16:12I think I already know what I tell you.
- 1:16:13I race that I did. I miss to pick up with Jesus
- 1:16:16Christ. The show is not over yet.
- 1:16:20Miami NC State Bar on NC State, laying three points.
- 1:16:26Let me just say this. Yeah, legal limit.
- 1:16:30NC State is going to not only cover, the three points.
- 1:16:35NC State is going to win my 17. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:16:40That's a legal limit. B NC State, whatever you got in
- 1:16:44your, in your wallet, go for it. Exactly.
- 1:16:48I think I think you're not going to quite see as much offensive
- 1:16:51output is Miami had last week. I think that was more of a of a
- 1:16:54one-off than it was an interesting parallel.
- 1:16:57The only person that can sing on North Carolina's, the Virginia
- 1:16:59Tech Hokies. Yep, and we still won the game,
- 1:17:03but damn it was, it was a tough one.
- 1:17:06It was a tough one. That should have been like 34 to
- 1:17:0910 where our defense played that night and that game is the 730
- 1:17:14kick down at Hard, Rock stadium with the wonderful 8,000 fans.
- 1:17:18It'll show up there we go. All right.
- 1:17:21Now, Virginia Georgia. Tech up at UVA.
- 1:17:26It's the 30th Anniversary, 31st anniversary of the when UVA was
- 1:17:31number one game. The year coach Bobby Ross took
- 1:17:36his Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to the National Being shipped
- 1:17:40for anyone living in Richmond if you've never met Bobby, Ross and
- 1:17:43talk to that man. Just a treasure.
- 1:17:47Great, absolute treasury, dude. Yeah, we got to got to hang out
- 1:17:51with him one night. He did a talk down at Kappa l in
- 1:17:55the city, it was him and Michael Robinson was Wes McElroy hosta
- 1:18:02thing. It was it was it was a good good
- 1:18:04time down there, Bobby shared some good stories.
- 1:18:07Got to Talk to him afterwards for a little while.
- 1:18:10Good, all around. It's a one-on-one with Bobby
- 1:18:12that night, man. Yeah, I know you ran into him a
- 1:18:15couple at once at a gas station, right?
- 1:18:17When entering the first time at a gas station and I saw him
- 1:18:22about a month ago, I cannot remember where I was, but I saw
- 1:18:26him and said, hey, coach, Ross, how you doing?
- 1:18:28And he, if you say, hey to him, he will say, hey to you back.
- 1:18:32So, he's out here in the West End of Richmond.
- 1:18:35If you ever see him, if you recognize Who he is, say, who
- 1:18:39say hello, he will say hello back to you a living treasure
- 1:18:43here, but his Georgia Tech, Yellow Jackets that teams way to
- 1:18:48bastok. As much as I hate pains me to
- 1:18:53say this, I think UVA is going to win this game by about 14.
- 1:18:57I think, again, I think it feels like every game on the ACC sleep
- 1:19:02this week, it's going to be very entertaining games.
- 1:19:06Yeah. Maybe with the exception of ss.
- 1:19:08You unless you take the 35 and a half and just sitting there
- 1:19:11like, I'm going to be doing like, okay, okay, yeah, we got
- 1:19:17it covered. So I'm taking UVA there.
- 1:19:20We think I'm taking Georgia Tech.
- 1:19:23Oh God. And I'm hoping they don't screw
- 1:19:27me again but I'm taking Georgia Tech.
- 1:19:30I think they keep it close. I think it's very similar to
- 1:19:33that UVA Louisville game. I think it's going to come down
- 1:19:38to something at the end of the game.
- 1:19:39That's going to kind of decide if they're, I don't think it's
- 1:19:42going to quite be more than the seven that were laying here.
- 1:19:45So, Let me get, let me get Georgia Tech there for that one.
- 1:19:50George close it out with that one.
- 1:19:52Yeah. How are they going to win it?
- 1:19:56I'll shit. Why not?
- 1:19:58Oh, Yellow. Jackets outright win.
- 1:20:01Fuck UVA. All right, well if nothing
- 1:20:06hasn't broken, then Curtis who overlooked on.
- 1:20:08I run down sheet here to games completely, because I'm watching
- 1:20:12the App State game and Coastal that Coastal with the ball.
- 1:20:17Who's At the ball here. Somebody's inching closer and
- 1:20:19closer to a field goal line. I think it's appstate 2727.
- 1:20:25Yeah, two minutes left. Oh my God, they've got.
- 1:20:29Did you know the FSU? You see that you want to get
- 1:20:33that game up the fs? Yeah you know defensive
- 1:20:35coordinator for Coastal Carolina.
- 1:20:38Hey I kid you not. All right well if we got nothing
