- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a Mastermindset coach, creative strategist.
- 0:09And also happen to be. A farmer.
- 0:11This is my chicken coop and I come out here every day to
- 0:14record a podcast. To.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:30So let's talk about scarcity today because so many people are
- 0:35in scarcity so often it's a topic that we need to address
- 0:40more than we actually do because it's it looms.
- 0:44It's like a black cloud outside the door, or maybe it's a black
- 0:47cloud inside of us. I'm not sure how you view it,
- 0:50but I, I have lived in scarcity before and I, I will say it is a
- 0:56very daunting subject to attack. But the reason we're having this
- 1:02conversation is to let everybody know it happens to everybody.
- 1:06It happens to all of us. Fear is part of our hardwiring
- 1:11and scarcity is a part of fear. You know, there, it's been often
- 1:14said that you can divide emotions into two categories,
- 1:17love and fear, and everything comes from those two.
- 1:20And it's a very simple way to chunk it.
- 1:22And it is very clear to me that scarcity comes from fear.
- 1:26So when we think scarcity, when we think we don't have enough,
- 1:30that triggers something in our mind to that goes way back to
- 1:34Maslow's hierarchy of needs, basic needs.
- 1:38And when we think we don't have something, immediately we dip
- 1:42into that space of scarcity and we, we, we want it.
- 1:47Like if you go back and you think about what happened during
- 1:49COVID and toilet paper hoarding, that was a very big thing.
- 1:53Like we did not want to be without toilet paper.
- 1:56So people were actually hoarding it.
- 1:58And I can understand how this happens because everyone's
- 2:01coming from scarcity. When am I going to get it again?
- 2:03If you've ever watched The Walking Dead, that series, you
- 2:06can see exactly what happens to people when that that goes off
- 2:11and when we start to have those scarcity moments.
- 2:14But what happens when you live in a threat of scarcity every
- 2:17single day? What happens when you think I'm
- 2:20not going to have enough, I'm not going to get the clients,
- 2:23I'm not going to get the job, I'm running out of money, all of
- 2:26those things. Well, what we think about
- 2:29expands. So the question, the conundrum
- 2:32that we're always faced with as human beings is, well, I have to
- 2:35think about it in order to fix it.
- 2:36I can't tell you how many times I have that conversation with
- 2:39people. Well, I have to think about it
- 2:40in order to fix it. Kim, what am I supposed to do?
- 2:43Am I supposed to just not think about it because I have to think
- 2:46about it? Well, the answer is the emotion
- 2:49is supposed to help us. The emotion is supposed to help
- 2:52us move through it. So when you have those thoughts,
- 2:55they are normal. That's it's normal to have those
- 2:58thoughts. What's not normal is to keep
- 2:59repeating it non-stop, which is what causes the attraction,
- 3:03magnetizes us. And scarcity is incredibly
- 3:08powerful, my friends. So you have to realize when it
- 3:11shows up, it gives us a warning, a strong warning, and then we
- 3:16need to do something about it. We need to change our approach.
- 3:18We need to add something. We need to set ourselves up so
- 3:22we don't have that repetitive problem.
- 3:25We have a tendency as human beings to wait until something
- 3:28grows like a big monster, and I'm all about kill the monsters
- 3:32while they're small because they're easier to deal with.
- 3:35It's like cleaning up a mess is easier to deal with when it's
- 3:38small. If you have clutter in your
- 3:39house, you handle it while it's on the counter.
- 3:41You don't wait until it becomes a horde and that solves the
- 3:46situation quicker for you. Now, are the thoughts going to
- 3:49keep coming of scarcity? Yes, because we are wired to
- 3:53find out what's wrong in our world.
- 3:55We are just wired for that. That's how we stay safe, find
- 3:58out what's wrong, handle it great, but don't hang on to the
- 4:04thought long, start taking action in another direction.
- 4:07So if I'm having scarcity thoughts, let's use it our
- 4:11business as an example. If I'm having scarcity thoughts
- 4:13about my business, the markets tough, this is happening, that's
- 4:17happening. Contraction is not the way to
- 4:21go. Expansion is the way to go.
- 4:23So it's not like you go out and expand and spend more money.
- 4:26What you do is you expand your thoughts, you expand your
- 4:29emotion about it. You start expanding how excited
- 4:32you are to work with your clients.
- 4:34You start talking to different people, taking different
- 4:37strategies to reach your clients.
- 4:40You start doing different things to make it happen.
- 4:43You start offering your services in different areas.
- 4:46And this is where the theory of multiple streams of income comes
- 4:50in. You set yourself up and if you
- 4:52say, well, I don't have the time, now you're back to
- 4:55thinking about limitation. You're immediately saying, I
- 4:58don't have the time. Well, listen, we all make time.
- 5:01I get up this morning, Full disclosure, I was awake at 3:10
- 5:07because I knew I wanted to get up and write A blog this morning
- 5:11and have it ready to go out and I wanted to work on the
- 5:13newsletter that was going to go out.
- 5:15So my days are packed. My days are completely packed
- 5:19and I don't sit there and go, I don't have the time to do it.
- 5:21No, I went to bed early, early last night and I woke up early,
- 5:25early so that I have the quiet time.
- 5:27And you know what, not only did I manage to get that done, I
- 5:30managed to get other things done because it was quiet and I could
- 5:33function. So remember scarcity, it's a
- 5:37powerful tool, but use it limitedly.
- 5:40Allow it to get your butt moving, but put it in check and
- 5:44start thinking about what it's trying to tell you and move
- 5:47through it, not sit in it. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:50you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:53Bye.
