Speaker 4: And I have my both of my co hosts in
• 0:53
Speaker 4: the building today, Lisa Odie.
• 0:55
Speaker 5: And Hollis Lewis. And what's going on?
• 0:57
Speaker 4: And I believe Hollis is going to introduce to somebody.
• 1:01
Speaker 4: We're gonna start right out with the guest today.
• 1:04
Speaker 6: So we have a sports agent and the Southern University
• 1:08
Speaker 6: lost in a grad one of my fellow classmates, Paul
• 1:11
Speaker 6: de Rusal, No, I did I pronounce your name right,
• 1:14
  Speaker 6: my brother?
• 1:15
Speaker 7: I mean you're almost with it.
• 1:19
Speaker 5: I knew we made sure he did it. We didn't
• 1:23
  Speaker 5: want to message.
• 1:26
Speaker 7: How you've been on this time in Louis And I
• 1:28
Speaker 7: can't say my name.
• 1:29
  Speaker 6: Right, I said, you know, I was a sub. I
• 1:32
Speaker 6: was a subteacher when I was in law school. And
• 1:35
Speaker 6: it just got to a point where I just passed
• 1:36
Speaker 6: the pipe. Go ahead and just sign. Now try your name.
• 1:41
Speaker 7: You know, it just depends right there. But I say
• 1:45
Speaker 7: the rustle if I really want to sound sophisticated, I
• 1:49
Speaker 7: got you. I feel like my credit score.
• 1:55
Speaker 5: Now. Now we're just going back a little bit. Like
• 1:57
Speaker 5: I said, we went to law school together.
• 1:58
Speaker 6: You were a Division one athlete, tennis player, and ever since,
• 2:03
Speaker 6: you know, when I came in you you wanted to
• 2:05
Speaker 6: be I know, you always talked about sports and sports agent,
• 2:07
Speaker 6: different things of that nature. And now we're here. You
• 2:10
Speaker 6: represent a pretty nice client list. So so how is
• 2:14
Speaker 6: that transition, going from being an attorney to now being
• 2:18
Speaker 6: a certified sports agent.
• 2:21
Speaker 7: I'd say that being an attorney kind of prepared me
• 2:25
Speaker 7: for it, you know, doing buildable hours like the movie
• 2:29
Speaker 7: Karate Kid, you know, the wack so wax sau Yeah,
• 2:34
Speaker 7: doctor view, attending the detailed client relations kind of all
• 2:37
Speaker 7: these things. Working at a law firm until a lot
• 2:40
Speaker 7: of their skills set translated. And just to be honest,
• 2:43
Speaker 7: I feel like, give's your clevel of credibility. When you
• 2:46
Speaker 7: walk into a room, you know, people know that the ESQ,
• 2:49
Speaker 7: you know that there's some education behind you too, that
• 2:51
Speaker 7: you're not, you know, a street agent that they call
• 2:55
Speaker 7: a lot of the people. So I think get helped
• 2:57
Speaker 7: in a lot of ways from sitting through more mediations,
• 3:01
Speaker 7: understanding negotiation tactics, and just honestly just sitting in a
• 3:04
Speaker 7: lot of those rooms just prepared to make you realize
• 3:07
Speaker 7: it's no stage too big man, never intimidated by anybody.
• 3:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, and and and this is Carl Man. How you doing?
• 3:15
  Speaker 5: So what's up? I'm I'm I'm.
• 3:18
Speaker 4: Every agent that I had was actually a you gotta
• 3:20
Speaker 4: tell them you you NFL. Well, I'm a former NFL guy.
• 3:23
Speaker 4: Played for the Vikings. I played from eighty three to
• 3:26
Speaker 4: ninety four. I finished my career with UH with the
• 3:30
Speaker 4: New Orleans Saints. And yeah, so fortunately for me, I
• 3:36
Speaker 4: ran into I had a couple of buddies who played
• 3:39
Speaker 4: and they had an They had a guy that was
• 3:41
Speaker 4: an agent and he was an attorney, and I knew
• 3:46
Speaker 4: some other guys who had jumped in with some other
• 3:49
Speaker 4: guys who were just the streets.
• 3:52
Speaker 5: They were the street agent, you know.
• 3:54
  Speaker 4: And and I don't I don't want to necessarily say
• 3:57
Speaker 4: that that was a that was a that was a
• 3:58
Speaker 4: bad deal. But one of the things that I felt
• 4:02
Speaker 4: that when you have an agent that's actually an attorney,
• 4:05
Speaker 4: when you get into the room on the negotiating piece
• 4:08
Speaker 4: of it and all of the other personal life lessons
• 4:12
Speaker 4: and things like that, having that a guy that's an
• 4:15
Speaker 4: attorney is a huge benefit. That guy who's just gonna
• 4:19
Speaker 4: go in and try to get you a million dollars
• 4:20
Speaker 4: on your contract, there's a whole lot more to that.
• 4:24
Speaker 5: Wouldn't you agree with that? Yeah?
• 4:26
  Speaker 7: I think, well, first off, I don't. I think that's
• 4:31
Speaker 7: just being an attorney just a certain degree. Man. It's
• 4:35
Speaker 7: just so you said, you you're versatile. You can do
• 4:38
Speaker 7: a lot of things more than just be an agent.
• 4:40
Speaker 7: And you know, sometimes you can help advise on business
• 4:42
Speaker 7: deals and review certain uh like you know with the
• 4:45
Speaker 7: Nike contract key on, and I just got that I
• 4:47
Speaker 7: was able to point out certain inconsistencies. You know. I
• 4:51
Speaker 7: just think your eye is trained for it. But I
• 4:53
Speaker 7: don't want to say that it's a lot of great
• 4:55
Speaker 7: agents that aren't attorneys too, so I want to be
• 4:58
Speaker 7: clear on it, right, Right, some of that is just
• 5:01
Speaker 7: based on who you are. There's like it's terrible agents
• 5:03
Speaker 7: that are attorneys, so right for me, being an attorney
• 5:08
Speaker 7: help because you trained my eye to certain things. But
• 5:10
Speaker 7: I do think, you know, there's people who got MBA's
• 5:12
Speaker 7: right and finance backgrounds and other things they kind of
• 5:15
Speaker 7: translate and make them serviceable and great agentsies work.
• 5:19
Speaker 8: Hey, Paul, this is Lisa, thanks for coming on the
• 5:22
Speaker 8: podcast tonight. Hey, so I'm going to go outside of
• 5:26
Speaker 8: what we're talking about right now and just kind of
• 5:28
Speaker 8: talk about in general.
• 5:29
Speaker 9: Question about conflict. I'm sure as a sports agent.
• 5:32
Speaker 8: You run into that, you know, probably on a daily basis,
• 5:36
Speaker 8: if not weekly. So how do you handle like when
• 5:39
Speaker 8: you have a conflict or a disagreement between clients and teams?
• 5:43
Speaker 9: What's your strategies to kind of handle that?
• 5:47
Speaker 7: I Mean, the first thing is, like I understand that
• 5:50
Speaker 7: is the nature of the business. I think a lot
• 5:51
Speaker 7: of times conflicts escalate because people are a lot of things,
• 5:55
Speaker 7: you know, to get personal, right. I think one of
• 5:57
Speaker 7: the things I understand is that I'm a big picture thinker. Right,
• 6:00
  Speaker 7: So there's a conflict between a team and a player.
• 6:03
Speaker 7: I understand that these teams are run by billionaires, right,
• 6:08
Speaker 7: most of us who have business backgrounds. So I understand
• 6:11
Speaker 7: that a lot of times, while you do look at
• 6:14
Speaker 7: players as people, sometimes they're viewed as commodities, and you know,
• 6:19
Speaker 7: it's business. So I understand going into it any conflict
• 6:24
Speaker 7: that I try to look at it through the other
• 6:25
Speaker 7: person's lens while also advocating for our client and doing
• 6:30
Speaker 7: with in my client's best interest at all times. So
• 6:33
Speaker 7: I think I just try to navigate that through clear
• 6:36
Speaker 7: conversation by For example, you might have a player with
• 6:39
Speaker 7: an injury settlement, for example, that's probably one of the
• 6:42
Speaker 7: more common common conflict injury settlement workers comp type stuff,
• 6:46
Speaker 7: and they might believe it to be a five week injury,
• 6:48
Speaker 7: so they'll pay you this amount of times the length
• 6:51
Speaker 7: of the injury they believe it to be. Whereas you
• 6:54
Speaker 7: go get a second opinion and do all these type things,
• 6:56
Speaker 7: I just think the better you do at having a
• 7:00
Speaker 7: paper trail and making an intelligent argument as opposed to
• 7:04
Speaker 7: an emotional one, one that's couched in fact and that
• 7:07
Speaker 7: can be proven as best as you can. You got
• 7:10
Speaker 7: to shout in all all these conflicts, and also you
• 7:13
Speaker 7: just want to be a professional throughout it.
• 7:16
  Speaker 9: Thank you.
• 7:17
  Speaker 5: That's perfect.
• 7:17
Speaker 6: So let me ask you this, Like a lot of
• 7:19
Speaker 6: times when we you know, a lame, a laming person
• 7:22
Speaker 6: who doesn't really you know, know the business slash sports world,
• 7:26
Speaker 6: when they think of agents, they think of like agents
• 7:28
Speaker 6: being involved in every aspect of a player's life and
• 7:31
Speaker 6: kind of, you know, ride with that person through whatever,
• 7:36
Speaker 6: you know, personal and or business. So what is kind
• 7:39
Speaker 6: of like a day to day or is it mostly
• 7:41
Speaker 6: just that excuse me, negotiating contracts or are you kind
• 7:46
Speaker 6: of involved in sort of like an advisor role to
• 7:49
Speaker 6: you know, life in general whatever.
• 7:51
Speaker 7: I first wanted to say that, it's kind of like
• 7:52
Speaker 7: any of y'all got.
• 7:53
Speaker 10: Kids, Yeah, yeah, and I'm going through where with this,
• 7:57
Speaker 10: I think that there's no like you might have one kid,
• 8:01
Speaker 10: Like my sister calls my mama every day, where I
• 8:04
Speaker 10: suldn't only call my mama if I need something.
• 8:07
Speaker 7: So it's kind of like with with athletes, it just
• 8:11
Speaker 7: depends on where they are in their career as to
• 8:13
Speaker 7: what your role will be. I got four guys in
• 8:15
Speaker 7: the draft right now, so I'm talking to them a
• 8:19
Speaker 7: lot more right, helping navigate through visits, evaluating rosters should
• 8:24
Speaker 7: they fall out of Day three of that draft. Whereas
• 8:26
Speaker 7: with Key On our conversations are a little different because
• 8:29
Speaker 7: you know, he's just training right now, getting ready to
• 8:32
Speaker 7: go to OTA's and stuff. So no day is the same.
• 8:36
Speaker 7: If you're in contract negotiation season where you got a
• 8:39
Speaker 7: guy that's getting ready to go into free agency, those
• 8:42
Speaker 7: conversations look different. If you got a you know, a
• 8:44
Speaker 7: rookie or veteran like a Jeffrey Simmons, he ain't got
• 8:47
Speaker 7: nothing to do for the next three years for real,
• 8:49
Speaker 7: So you're just showing up his events, supporting them, just
• 8:52
Speaker 7: being being there, pulling up the game, maybe just just
• 8:55
Speaker 7: flying out the nasvilla, grabbing dinner. All of your players
• 8:58
Speaker 7: are going to have a different personality, and I think
• 9:01
Speaker 7: some agents go wrong because you can't be the same
• 9:03
Speaker 7: person for everybody. For example, Key Coleman called me ten
• 9:07
Speaker 7: times a day. You know receiver as Marcus Banks in Tampa.
• 9:14
Speaker 7: He's my frat brother. He's twenty four years old. A
• 9:16
Speaker 7: little bit further along, he gonna call me and he
• 9:20
Speaker 7: might talk about the territs that are going on, you know.
• 9:25
Speaker 7: So I think part of being a great agent is
• 9:27
Speaker 7: just understanding what role you have to play in that
• 9:31
Speaker 7: player's life and asking them what are the expectations of
• 9:34
Speaker 7: you and what did they need from you? You know
• 9:36
Speaker 7: what I mean. Some players want you to come to
• 9:38
Speaker 7: as many games as you can. Other guys like now,
• 9:40
Speaker 7: man just pull up with me on my off day,
• 9:42
  Speaker 7: which is Tuesday.
• 9:45
Speaker 6: And I'm looking at this number for Jeffrey Simmons that
• 9:47
Speaker 6: he did for a little while.
• 9:49
Speaker 5: So I looked at that number, I said, okay, right.
• 9:55
Speaker 4: And you know, and what's interesting to me about listening
• 9:59
Speaker 4: listening to you, you know, and I'm sitting here as
• 10:01
Speaker 4: you as you're talking about the relationship, and I'm thinking
• 10:04
Speaker 4: to myself about the relationship that I have with the
• 10:08
Speaker 4: guy who who I worked with like like to like
• 10:12
Speaker 4: at any part in time, anything that happens in my
• 10:14
Speaker 4: life today, like I'm likely to call him and have
• 10:19
Speaker 4: a conversation with him and say, hey, I'm trying to
• 10:21
  Speaker 4: do this.
• 10:22
  Speaker 5: Like it.
• 10:23
Speaker 4: It really does become almost I want to say, like
• 10:28
Speaker 4: a father figure, almost, even though it's not.
• 10:31
Speaker 5: You know, the age is not much different.
• 10:33
Speaker 4: But the things that I'm needing, I know that he's
• 10:36
Speaker 4: going to have the answers or he's gonna go find him.
• 10:39
Speaker 4: You know, he's going to come back and call me
• 10:41
Speaker 4: and say, hey, look yeah, I think what we need
• 10:43
Speaker 4: to do is we need to do it this.
• 10:44
Speaker 5: Way, that way, da da da da.
• 10:46
Speaker 4: And I think that the average person doesn't have that
• 10:52
Speaker 4: that luxury. I don't think and and and I think
• 10:55
Speaker 4: you know, when you when you think about it, like
• 10:57
Speaker 4: people like you, man, I don't know if you really
• 11:00
Speaker 4: understand like how relative and how important that that is
• 11:04
Speaker 4: to guys like me, you know, because.
• 11:07
  Speaker 5: We need that.
• 11:09
Speaker 7: Yeah, And I think a lot of you know, I
• 11:12
Speaker 7: don't want to turn off any of your viewers here,
• 11:15
Speaker 7: but I think a lot of that is just for me.
• 11:17
Speaker 7: You get into this business if you're a Christian before
• 11:20
  Speaker 7: you're an agent, which I am, it's about it's about.
• 11:23
  Speaker 5: Service, right right.
• 11:26
Speaker 7: So if the main thing and your main purpose in
• 11:29
Speaker 7: life is for God, you get this opportunity and he
• 11:31
Speaker 7: gives you this platform. You want to help people. You know,
• 11:34
Speaker 7: people get caught up in this agent stuff and they
• 11:36
Speaker 7: think about, oh, I saw you on the sideline. You
• 11:38
Speaker 7: did a hundred million dollars deal, key hun Kole and
• 11:40
Speaker 7: Jeffrey Simmons. At its core, I'm helping a young man navigate,
• 11:45
Speaker 7: no different than a school teacher, right then, So it's
• 11:49
Speaker 7: so many of those things are already in you. Is
• 11:52
Speaker 7: as I have the title of an agent. You know,
• 11:54
  Speaker 7: you're an advisor, you're a friend, you're a confident. You
• 11:57
Speaker 7: know a lot of the bodies are buried, you know.
• 12:02
Speaker 7: I think you have to want that. I think to
• 12:07
Speaker 7: who much is given, much is required. So, like you
• 12:09
Speaker 7: said about your agent, I enjoyed being counted on. I
• 12:13
Speaker 7: enjoyed being depended on. I enjoy you know that, kid,
• 12:17
Speaker 7: love giving the answers to the test of other people.
• 12:19
Speaker 7: You know, my home was a lot of them passed
• 12:21
Speaker 7: because of me. I enjoyed it right right, So for you,
• 12:25
Speaker 7: for you to revere your agent so much, that means
• 12:28
Speaker 7: they're doing something right. And I think that's all you want.
• 12:31
Speaker 7: You want to want to be that. But now on
• 12:33
Speaker 7: the other side of that, I think I do a
• 12:36
Speaker 7: really good job of trying to empower those guys. For example,
• 12:39
Speaker 7: my my rookies. I don't call back the team and
• 12:44
Speaker 7: set up their zooms or I said, no, man, you're
• 12:47
Speaker 7: a grown man. You I can tell you what to say,
• 12:50
Speaker 7: but I want these teams to understand that you can
• 12:53
Speaker 7: hold you can handle some of your own business because
• 12:55
Speaker 7: what you're in the meetings. You know, there's a fine
• 12:57
Speaker 7: line between guidance and hindering and handicap and I think
• 13:02
Speaker 7: you got to find that right because you're still your
• 13:04
Speaker 7: own business. You your players. You want them to keep
• 13:08
Speaker 7: you around because obviously you add value, but you don't
• 13:10
Speaker 7: want to become too much of a crutch to where
• 13:12
Speaker 7: they don't grow. And that's the hard point, right you know,
• 13:17
Speaker 7: I don't know you're for louis Ina we Boil croff
• 13:20
Speaker 7: is here, right, Yeah, you know to get some of that,
• 13:24
Speaker 7: I had to learn to feel my own crafts at
• 13:26
  Speaker 7: some point.
• 13:27
Speaker 4: Well, okay, so let me ask this question because as
• 13:30
Speaker 4: as you were talking, I'm sitting there and I'm thinking
• 13:32
Speaker 4: about like different situations.
• 13:34
Speaker 5: And we had a really difficult general manager. His name
• 13:38
Speaker 5: was Mike. Lenny's passed away and you know call him
• 13:40
  Speaker 5: coach him.
• 13:43
Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, he was for sure, without any question,
• 13:46
Speaker 4: he was a racial type and one of the one of.
• 13:52
  Speaker 7: The expected dudes.
• 13:54
  Speaker 5: I don't I don't.
• 13:55
Speaker 4: Really have a good filter, so so you know, one
• 13:59
Speaker 4: of the things he would he would tell you like
• 14:02
Speaker 4: like if you didn't, if you if you didn't take
• 14:04
Speaker 4: his offer, Like so he throws an offer right out there,
• 14:06
Speaker 4: and nobody takes the first offer. You know that nobody
• 14:09
Speaker 4: takes the first offer. So he would tell you, if
• 14:14
Speaker 4: you don't like my offer, go drive a bus, now,
• 14:19
Speaker 4: you know, and and and again I'm coming through you know,
• 14:22
Speaker 4: eighty three, eighty four, eighty five. But you can't say that.
• 14:25
Speaker 4: You can't say that to me. Why do I got
• 14:27
  Speaker 4: to go drive a bus? If I don't, if I
• 14:28
  Speaker 4: don't play ball, what what's going? And I and I
• 14:32
Speaker 4: try to look at this now if I don't have
• 14:36
Speaker 4: if I don't have an agent in that room at
• 14:39
Speaker 4: some point in time, like like, I don't know if
• 14:42
Speaker 4: that that works out for me, right, you know what
• 14:44
Speaker 4: I'm saying. And you so, I'm wondering if you've been
• 14:47
Speaker 4: in that kind of a situation where there's that guy.
• 14:50
Speaker 4: And I'm not saying I'm that guy, but you you
• 14:52
Speaker 4: have that guy that you have to kind of sit
• 14:54
Speaker 4: in to have that conversation because that general manager might
• 14:58
Speaker 4: say something off the and or maybe they don't.
• 15:01
Speaker 5: Say it like that.
• 15:02
Speaker 7: Now I don't think they say it but but to
• 15:09
Speaker 7: your point that there's definitely still some of those those
• 15:12
Speaker 7: overtoes or whatever you want, because you know, like I said,
• 15:15
Speaker 7: sometimes they view the athletes as commodities that they can
• 15:18
Speaker 7: just replace, they just go out. So there is a
• 15:22
Speaker 7: little bit of that, right, not wanting people to get
• 15:24
Speaker 7: their worse. I mean, they're trying to save the owner
• 15:26
Speaker 7: as much money as possible. That's really what they're trying
• 15:29
Speaker 7: to do. If we think about it's trying to get
• 15:30
Speaker 7: the cheapest labor, get the most out of you, and
• 15:34
Speaker 7: pay you the minimum amount until they absolutely have to
• 15:36
Speaker 7: pay you. You know. So I think the role of
• 15:40
Speaker 7: the agent, as I said earlier, it's to stay calm
• 15:43
Speaker 7: and make the player understand that it's not personal. But
• 15:46
Speaker 7: it's so hard not to feel personal. You know, I'm
• 15:49
Speaker 7: not the one getting hit, right, I get out of
• 15:52
Speaker 7: the bed just perfect. I can still duck the basketball.
• 15:56
Speaker 7: You know. It's being able to empathize and also trying
• 16:01
Speaker 7: to make them understand like, yo, this is a seventy
• 16:02
Speaker 7: eight year old owner from West Texas. Bro he don't
• 16:06
Speaker 7: you know. That's a lot of it is how you
• 16:08
Speaker 7: were raised, you know.
• 16:09
Speaker 6: So I'm looking at you, I'm looking at you your
• 16:12
Speaker 6: client list, and you mentioned some of the names Jeffrey
• 16:14
Speaker 6: Simmons from Tennessee, uh Keyon Coleman Buffalo, Terrell Shaver's Buffalo,
• 16:19
Speaker 6: Marcus Banks, you know, Tampa Bay and what I'm impressed by, Like,
• 16:23
Speaker 6: I remember when you know, watching you online, he was
• 16:25
Speaker 6: trying to break and get in the game. And now
• 16:27
Speaker 6: we're here and you mentioned you got four other rookies.
• 16:29
Speaker 6: So what's the process now for acquiring clients. Is it
• 16:34
Speaker 6: you soliciting or you getting solicited from from from players
• 16:38
  Speaker 6: and their families.
• 16:39
  Speaker 7: It's a combination, right, I think you know I could
• 16:43
Speaker 7: speak to like, for example, my last year's draft players.
• 16:47
Speaker 7: You know, you got Calling Vigors from Eunus, Louisiana, and
• 16:50
  Speaker 7: he's from where I'm from.
• 16:52
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 16:52
Speaker 7: Aiden Huntington was a teammate of called it so a
• 16:54
Speaker 7: lot of the stuff, man, Yeah, some people. I didn't
• 16:57
Speaker 7: realize how connected I was to people. And sometimes when
• 16:59
Speaker 7: you do a really good job and you have a
• 17:01
Speaker 7: social media presence and people see that the acumen is there,
• 17:04
Speaker 7: they get a little intrigued. Feel like anybody, if I
• 17:08
Speaker 7: get a fair chance in any room, you know, I
• 17:11
Speaker 7: feel like I'm as good as anybody. So a lot
• 17:15
Speaker 7: of a lot of my clients come from referral, A
• 17:19
Speaker 7: lot of it becomes geographically being from southwest Louisiana. Kind
• 17:22
Speaker 7: of these kids grow up knowing who I am now
• 17:24
Speaker 7: because I've been blessed. You know, when you got a
• 17:26
Speaker 7: superstar like ke Coleman.
• 17:27
Speaker 5: Let's just call it it is.
• 17:31
Speaker 7: Let's just be honest. You know, all your clients matter,
• 17:33
Speaker 7: but you know, the kids from where we're from, from
• 17:35
Speaker 7: the same place, so they you know that that's built
• 17:39
Speaker 7: in it. And one thing about he gonna say my
• 17:40
Speaker 7: name in rooms that I'm not in.
• 17:42
  Speaker 5: He's nice, He's a humble kid, So I like him
• 17:44
  Speaker 5: a lot.
• 17:45
Speaker 7: He's gonna say my name anywhere. So you want to
• 17:47
Speaker 7: you know, you want to do that level. You want
• 17:49
Speaker 7: to solicit, But the best solicitation is doing good work.
• 17:53
Speaker 8: Yes, yes, hey Lisa again, I know Hollis just he
• 17:58
Speaker 8: kind of named all some of you or more prominent
• 18:00
Speaker 8: clients that you are representing here in the present. But
• 18:05
Speaker 8: how many contracts do you think you've negotiated over the
• 18:07
Speaker 8: years total, Like what.
• 18:09
Speaker 7: Do you see as a legal career? And yes, yes,
• 18:13
Speaker 7: well we one hundreds. Wow, you know, because you know
• 18:16
Speaker 7: I did a lot of mediations when I was an
• 18:18
Speaker 7: up and coming attorney at a big firm. Okay, so
• 18:21
Speaker 7: I've done a lot of negotiations, you know, like on paper,
• 18:23
Speaker 7: maybe I negotiated nine, maybe ten, fifteen NFL contact Sure,
• 18:28
Speaker 7: you know, like I said, my first time at the
• 18:30
Speaker 7: big boyd table for really we got one hundred for.
• 18:32
Speaker 8: M Did you get to say did you get to
• 18:34
Speaker 8: say show me the money?
• 18:37
Speaker 7: You know what about that news came out of it
• 18:42
Speaker 7: on Good Friday in Louisiana. Yeah, it was one of
• 18:45
Speaker 7: the one of the best days of my life. Wow,
• 18:48
Speaker 7: to see the look on your client's face.
• 18:51
Speaker 5: Come on, I remember that. I'm watching that so so.
• 18:54
Speaker 6: So like now you know, kind of where can people
• 18:58
Speaker 6: find you at? Where can they you know, what's your
• 19:00
Speaker 6: social media? Where can people keep up with you?
• 19:03
Speaker 7: Well, you know the cool thing, man, they can always
• 19:05
Speaker 7: find me at the agent Paul on Instagram. I'm still
• 19:10
Speaker 7: independent right now, you know, as you know how all
• 19:13
Speaker 7: these big agencies calling me. Yeah, yeah, I'm cool right now.
• 19:17
Speaker 7: You know, I'm in a good space. You know, I
• 19:19
Speaker 7: know that day will come, but I'm gonna just keep
• 19:21
Speaker 7: stacking up and having quality players and if we move
• 19:24
Speaker 7: we move as a unit, one band, one sound.
• 19:27
Speaker 6: Now is there any thoughts of maybe like going like expanding,
• 19:30
Speaker 6: going to different sports?
• 19:31
Speaker 5: Are you just kind of locked in with the NFL
• 19:32
  Speaker 5: right now?
• 19:33
Speaker 7: Oh no, no, No, I'd love to do basketball. I'd love
• 19:36
Speaker 7: to represent coaches down the road. I want to keep growing,
• 19:39
Speaker 7: but I want to grow at the correct pace. I
• 19:41
Speaker 7: think the biggest mistake you can make is to allow
• 19:44
Speaker 7: other people to dictate how you move. Like about it
• 19:47
Speaker 7: in basketball, what they said, a great point, gud. You
• 19:48
Speaker 7: can't speed them up, play at their own speed. Like
• 19:51
Speaker 7: nothing you can do to make them rush, make them
• 19:54
Speaker 7: take a bet. And That's where I'm at right now.
• 19:56
Speaker 7: I kind of just take my time, just just be
• 20:00
Speaker 7: because you should. Just because you could doesn't mean you should.
• 20:02
Speaker 5: Yes, exact, I love that.
• 20:04
Speaker 7: I'm gonna just keep building man, day by day and
• 20:07
Speaker 7: doing right by the players that I do have, and
• 20:11
Speaker 7: keep you know, keep stacking man. That's really all I
• 20:13
  Speaker 7: can do.
• 20:14
Speaker 4: Hey, man, just just again, just from somebody who's been
• 20:17
Speaker 4: in that situation and have watched different people, good bad
• 20:21
Speaker 4: and in different just hearing you and and and hearing
• 20:26
Speaker 4: the passion in what you have. But I can appreciate
• 20:29
Speaker 4: who you are what you're doing, and I'm sure that
• 20:31
Speaker 4: the guys that you are representing will all do well
• 20:35
Speaker 4: because of who you are. And Bro, I'm telling you now,
• 20:37
  Speaker 4: don't change be that dude, because that'll that'll that'll work
• 20:40
Speaker 4: for you because players like that kind of that that
• 20:42
Speaker 4: kind of person, that true person that you can really
• 20:44
  Speaker 4: deal with.
• 20:46
Speaker 7: I mean, you you blessed right the way I look
• 20:48
  Speaker 7: at it, Man, it's a blessing. I know what it's
• 20:51
Speaker 7: like to have no clients, right, and I remember them nights,
• 20:54
Speaker 7: you know, just crying knowing I as good as everybody,
• 20:57
Speaker 7: but I realized, you know, you got to go through
• 20:59
Speaker 7: a process to make you appreciate it. So I'm just
• 21:01
Speaker 7: as appreciative of a sixth round pick as I am
• 21:04
Speaker 7: a first round pick. Third round. You gotta love them
• 21:08
Speaker 7: all the same, and you might have to love them
• 21:10
Speaker 7: differently because every player got a different love language, you know,
• 21:15
Speaker 7: but you love them all the same. You treat your
• 21:17
Speaker 7: top of the roster guys saying, well, you treat the
• 21:19
Speaker 7: god fighting for a fifty three right, Well.
• 21:21
Speaker 5: You know, I'm looking for an agent for my forty
• 21:24
  Speaker 5: five U team.
• 21:25
Speaker 7: So mannar, I'm not a aar.
• 21:36
Speaker 5: Hey man, I really appreciate you, man, It's been excellent. Yeah,
• 21:39
Speaker 5: I appreciate it, man, Thank you so much.
• 21:41
Speaker 7: I got a question to know for my man who
• 21:43
Speaker 7: played for the Vikings though.
• 21:45
Speaker 5: Yes, sir Carl Lee, what years you played, bro? I
• 21:48
Speaker 5: came in in eighty three.
• 21:50
Speaker 4: I was a seventh round pick, and.
• 21:55
Speaker 5: And my career went from eighty three to ninety four.
• 21:58
Speaker 4: I ended up with Yeah, well he played one year. Yeah,
• 22:03
Speaker 4: one year with the Saints. I played one year with
• 22:04
  Speaker 4: the Saints.
• 22:05
Speaker 7: But you know, it's crazy. You went seven round back
• 22:08
Speaker 7: in the day when they used to have like twelve rounds,
• 22:09
Speaker 7: so technically you were kind of like a like a
• 22:12
  Speaker 7: third round.
• 22:12
Speaker 6: Yeah, man, don't tell this man, Man, you don't tell him, man.
• 22:17
Speaker 4: Brother, it really it really, it really to me when
• 22:23
Speaker 4: I when I you know, at that pick, you know, I.
• 22:26
Speaker 5: Didn't know where it was, what it was, but there
• 22:30
Speaker 5: was a whole lot it was.
• 22:31
Speaker 4: It was still a challenge because again I'm trying to
• 22:34
Speaker 4: play a corner position that I really hadn't played.
• 22:37
Speaker 5: I was a safety, but it.
• 22:39
Speaker 4: Was it was it was the challenge of seeing all
• 22:43
Speaker 4: the different people, you know, and and I had a
• 22:45
Speaker 4: buddy from LSU, Willie till who's who's down in baton rouge.
• 22:51
Speaker 5: He kind of really took.
• 22:52
Speaker 4: Me under the wing and kind of got me going
• 22:54
Speaker 4: and helped me a whole bunch.
• 22:57
  Speaker 7: Man.
• 22:57
Speaker 4: And I can give him a little props too, just
• 22:59
Speaker 4: because of having somebody that that that played that position
• 23:03
Speaker 4: who was a buddy of mine. We always lived in
• 23:05
Speaker 4: the same apartment complex. So I got to get my
• 23:08
Speaker 4: hats off to him as well.
• 23:10
Speaker 7: Hey, so you you couldn't so you played, say you
• 23:12
Speaker 7: couldn't turn them hell slaying? Well, why they had you
• 23:14
Speaker 7: a safety in that corner?
• 23:15
Speaker 5: Well, I play safety.
• 23:17
Speaker 4: I play safety in college at Marshall and uh and
• 23:20
Speaker 4: and and I have to I'm gonna pat myself on
• 23:22
Speaker 4: the back because I was a him.
• 23:24
  Speaker 5: I was. I was I was.
• 23:27
Speaker 4: I was physical, you know, I was physical and and
• 23:31
Speaker 4: so I was more of a safety type. But then
• 23:34
Speaker 4: I get to I get my opportunity to play corner
• 23:36
Speaker 4: with Pete Carroll. He comes in and and puts us
• 23:39
Speaker 4: through the whole bump and run thing.
• 23:40
Speaker 5: Man, And then my my career just jumped off.
• 23:42
  Speaker 7: Man.
• 23:43
Speaker 5: I just you know, yeah, so I played with Pete Carroll, Yes.
• 23:46
Speaker 7: Son, he was then too.
• 23:51
Speaker 4: Man, you I'm telling you but he turned our he
• 23:54
Speaker 4: turned our defense or I'll.
• 23:57
Speaker 5: Say that for sure, the secondary.
• 23:58
Speaker 4: But we had a we had a defensive ordinative brother
• 24:00
Speaker 4: that was just blitz blitz blitz. So, Bro, we're playing
• 24:03
Speaker 4: man the man every almost every down, and Bro, that's
• 24:08
  Speaker 4: Jerry Rice Era.
• 24:09
Speaker 7: That's all them does look I know, I look see
• 24:14
Speaker 7: she's trying to rust us off the foor. I love Boston,
• 24:16
Speaker 7: of though. My last question in the hold on.
• 24:18
Speaker 5: Okay, you didn't. We ain't got nothing. We're gonna talking
• 24:23
  Speaker 5: about something.
• 24:24
Speaker 9: He's interviewing Carl. Tables have turned.
• 24:29
Speaker 7: I'm doing I'm doing media. When I get done with there,
• 24:32
Speaker 7: you got I retire. But so did you? Were you
• 24:35
Speaker 7: with the Vikings for what? Through what? Years?
• 24:39
Speaker 5: Eighty three to ninety three?
• 24:43
Speaker 7: All right, so pitts of this? You know how like
• 24:46
Speaker 7: you have certain core memories as a child that you
• 24:48
Speaker 7: cannot forget? Yes, all right, So Christmas nineteen eighty nine, Okay,
• 24:54
Speaker 7: I'm gonna take you somewhere, Okay, okay, young bro. I
• 24:58
Speaker 7: was like, maybe it's three. I'm telling my age. I was,
• 25:01
Speaker 7: and we were Monday night football was on the and
• 25:04
Speaker 7: the Vikings were playing on Christmas night on a Monday night,
• 25:07
Speaker 7: and I don't know why I remember it is, but
• 25:09
Speaker 7: I cannot forget it. Do you remember that?
• 25:13
  Speaker 5: I No, I don't.
• 25:15
Speaker 4: I'm sure that we played on on on on.
• 25:18
Speaker 5: One of those days.
• 25:20
Speaker 7: I know you played on Christmas, on Christmas, I.
• 25:23
Speaker 5: Get it, Christmas, Thanksgiving all that.
• 25:25
Speaker 4: I don't like, we played a bunch of games on
• 25:27
Speaker 4: on on different times.
• 25:28
  Speaker 5: I don't really like.
• 25:29
  Speaker 4: I can't pull out a game or a situation where
• 25:33
Speaker 4: I could say that I actually played.
• 25:35
Speaker 5: Unfortunately, I don't have that memory. And you can. You
• 25:37
Speaker 5: can blame that on the contact.
• 25:43
Speaker 4: Trust you all good.
• 25:46
Speaker 7: You played on that on that hard, concrete.
• 25:54
  Speaker 3: Term.
• 25:56
Speaker 7: And I know, like everybody I ever talked to from
• 25:58
Speaker 7: your era, like the Ogs, they think they're like, man,
• 26:01
Speaker 7: these receivers just get to run across the middle and
• 26:03
  Speaker 7: gallivant that boy.
• 26:07
Speaker 4: And I say that here like all the time, like
• 26:11
Speaker 4: there's just simply no way that a receiver in the
• 26:15
Speaker 4: league now is gonna catch a slam And bro, I'm
• 26:18
Speaker 4: not gonna go across his head. Say that a lot,
• 26:20
Speaker 4: you know, Yeah, you said, I'm just there's just no way.
• 26:22
Speaker 4: And I get it, Like now that's gonna be fifteen.
• 26:25
Speaker 4: But back then, that was gonna be fear for the receiver,
• 26:29
Speaker 4: you know, you know we was, you know back in
• 26:31
Speaker 4: those days. Brother like you, you know you talking like
• 26:36
Speaker 4: putting fear in somebody's mind so that they don't do
• 26:40
  Speaker 4: this again.
• 26:41
Speaker 5: That was the whole thought process of defense. You know.
• 26:44
Speaker 4: You start talking about something, you talk about like somebody
• 26:48
Speaker 4: like lt Bro, like he ain't trying to just hit
• 26:51
Speaker 4: you and bring you down, trying to intimidate you to
• 26:54
Speaker 4: when you don't ever come back that way.
• 26:57
Speaker 5: And I think that's the difference in where the game
• 26:59
  Speaker 5: is gone.
• 27:00
  Speaker 4: No for sure, and I can't and I and I
• 27:03
Speaker 4: don't mean that in a bad way because you know,
• 27:05
Speaker 4: safety is safety is important and all that kind of stuff,
• 27:09
Speaker 4: you know. But if someone asked me if I would
• 27:12
Speaker 4: go back and do it again, knowing that my memory
• 27:15
Speaker 4: is horrible, I would say absolutely, I would do it
• 27:18
Speaker 4: without a question. I would I stand with my hand
• 27:22
Speaker 4: up to say, I want to be first in line.
• 27:25
Speaker 7: Hey man, I respected, but love of the love, love
• 27:28
Speaker 7: of the game. Man, sir, man, I'm young, I'm younger
• 27:33
Speaker 7: than you, but like I got an old soul.
• 27:35
Speaker 4: Man, I'm with you, and and I appreciate I appreciate
• 27:39
Speaker 4: the money you know, and I had loved to have
• 27:41
  Speaker 4: made that money.
• 27:43
Speaker 5: But but if you love the.
• 27:45
Speaker 4: Money and you can't love the game with the with
• 27:49
Speaker 4: the intensity of wanting to be something, want somebody to
• 27:55
Speaker 4: call your name out by, you're missing it.
• 27:58
Speaker 5: That's what we're gonna talk about. We sure are.
• 28:04
Speaker 7: I'm knowing you gotta hell, you gotta love this stuff.
• 28:07
Speaker 7: You almost made me curtains.
• 28:10
Speaker 5: And that's one thing I can say about Paul.
• 28:12
Speaker 6: Ever since I know that he was in law school,
• 28:13
Speaker 6: he always had a really love for sports. He thinks
• 28:17
Speaker 6: sports related, always talking about it, doing it, but playing
• 28:19
Speaker 6: flag football, just talking about it in the last centers,
• 28:22
  Speaker 6: always a football.
• 28:24
Speaker 7: Hey, I'm gonna tell you something. I hope Marcus the
• 28:28
Speaker 7: Lord is listening to this. I was unguardable, bro. I was,
• 28:33
Speaker 7: you know, like six two and a half, not a
• 28:35
Speaker 7: real burner. But they described me like a white guy,
• 28:42
Speaker 7: you know, first the first guy in the room type guy.
• 28:50
Speaker 8: Okay, Paul needs to be a stand up comedian. Get
• 28:54
Speaker 8: the immedia style, just get straight on the stage.
• 28:58
Speaker 4: That's so somebody you six two.
• 29:03
Speaker 5: Division one in this division one? Okay, in a quarter
• 29:09
Speaker 5: I am pointed the quarters off. Okay, So now if
• 29:13
Speaker 5: you were to played football? What what?
• 29:15
  Speaker 7: What?
• 29:15
  Speaker 4: What?
• 29:15
  Speaker 5: What?
• 29:16
Speaker 4: So are you saying that you would would you be
• 29:18
Speaker 4: a receiver? Is that what you're saying?
• 29:20
Speaker 7: I mean, wait a minute, now, you should.
• 29:23
Speaker 5: You should be quick with that.
• 29:24
Speaker 7: Answer that no no, no no, I gotta get I gotta provide,
• 29:27
  Speaker 7: contay provide.
• 29:30
Speaker 5: Okay, I'm waiting it.
• 29:32
Speaker 7: I would really want to be like the you Donna's
• 29:34
Speaker 7: Haslam of the NFL, like, don't play, just get to
• 29:37
Speaker 7: walk around and be in it. I guess you to tapling.
• 29:45
Speaker 9: I think playing that part loud.
• 29:48
Speaker 4: Oh gosh, So you want to be on the side.
• 29:52
Speaker 7: I just want to put on a uniform, run out,
• 29:56
Speaker 7: kiss my family before the game, you know, like you
• 29:59
Speaker 7: know in the family, if you on.
• 30:00
Speaker 11: The sideline, to be whiter than the okay, okay, wow,
• 30:16
  Speaker 11: because one other position, I can't play dB, I won't
• 30:20
Speaker 11: get cooked back as a receiver.
• 30:21
Speaker 7: I can at least go out there and block or
• 30:23
Speaker 7: do something like for Tim to be busy on outside.
• 30:27
Speaker 5: Why you gotta say the DV gotta get beat d
• 30:31
Speaker 5: what we all did.
• 30:33
Speaker 7: Being a d V bro is the hardest position in football,
• 30:37
  Speaker 7: one hundred percent.
• 30:38
Speaker 5: I said all the time.
• 30:39
Speaker 6: It's the most athletic position, being a cornerback, you have
• 30:41
Speaker 6: to be the best athlete maybe in sports. Now let
• 30:46
Speaker 6: me just let me just give you some context to
• 30:47
Speaker 6: that that statement that he made. If you wasn't on
• 30:50
Speaker 6: the phone, we wasn't having this conversation, he would have
• 30:52
Speaker 6: never always say that.
• 30:56
Speaker 5: I always I always say what was what was your like?
• 31:01
Speaker 7: What you ran in the forty and all that.
• 31:03
Speaker 4: See now, now, now this is gonna be this is
• 31:05
Speaker 4: gonna be a little bit of an issue here, all right.
• 31:08
Speaker 4: So I was no, no, no, no, no, bro before that. Okay,
• 31:14
Speaker 4: here's the thing. I ran four four. I ran four
• 31:17
Speaker 4: four at the Combine my second year in the league.
• 31:21
  Speaker 4: I ran I run I ran a four two eight
• 31:23
Speaker 4: and four to three five back to back. Hold on,
• 31:25
Speaker 4: hold on, I'm just telling you. I'm just said four
• 31:28
Speaker 4: three eight No no, no, no for two eight, four, three five.
• 31:32
Speaker 4: Come on, That's what I'm saying too. Come on, listen.
• 31:35
Speaker 4: Let's Decko took over the team. Let's Decko took over
• 31:38
Speaker 4: the scene, took over the team, and he made us
• 31:41
Speaker 4: do this crazy running program. So Brad, like you know,
• 31:45
Speaker 4: he tried. He called me and said, look, you need
• 31:47
Speaker 4: to come up to Minnesota. And work out because camp's
• 31:50
Speaker 4: gonna be hard, blah blah blah blah. I said, no,
• 31:53
Speaker 4: if that's all it's gonna be, I'll take care of
• 31:55
Speaker 4: that here at home. And so he had this this
• 31:58
Speaker 4: deal where we had to run the forties, do the shuttles,
• 32:02
Speaker 4: kind of almost like the combat rock. So I was
• 32:06
Speaker 4: the fastest dude on our.
• 32:07
Speaker 5: Team that particular year.
• 32:10
Speaker 4: I was Darren Nelson from Stanford was you know, he
• 32:15
Speaker 4: was everybody thought he would be the fastest.
• 32:18
Speaker 5: My time was the fastest time.
• 32:19
Speaker 4: This is the first time I heard about that for
• 32:21
Speaker 4: too well, when am I supposed to brag about it?
• 32:23
  Speaker 5: I don't.
• 32:28
Speaker 9: Don't take his come on now, come on this moment.
• 32:36
Speaker 7: I feel like that Chamberlain point games.
• 32:40
  Speaker 5: I heard.
• 32:48
Speaker 7: And is he just mentioned all this about the lawyers, Like, okay,
• 32:51
Speaker 7: did you run it outside.
• 32:55
Speaker 5: Grass turfed? We were we were we.
• 32:58
Speaker 4: Were Oh my god, we were outside. We were on
• 33:01
Speaker 4: the turf. We was on the turf, and it was
• 33:04
Speaker 4: and and and the coaches were the timers. They timed
• 33:07
Speaker 4: the twenty into forty. I don't remember what the twenty
• 33:11
Speaker 4: was because it didn't really matter because because the forty
• 33:13
  Speaker 4: was good.
• 33:14
  Speaker 5: Yeah, So I didn't work.
• 33:15
Speaker 6: But I'll say this, if you go back and watch
• 33:18
Speaker 6: some of the highlights of Coach Carl Lee, Yeah you
• 33:21
Speaker 6: you had some wheels, so I mean I could believe it.
• 33:23
Speaker 5: I'm messing with you, but yeah, you was doing your
• 33:25
Speaker 5: thing out there. That's the first.
• 33:28
Speaker 4: But we might need to keep you on the show
• 33:30
Speaker 4: every week. That's the only problem he's ever given me.
• 33:36
  Speaker 7: Line.
• 33:36
  Speaker 5: Now, don't be.
• 33:38
Speaker 9: Loud now, now, boys, you know how.
• 33:44
Speaker 5: How are we? What are we? What?
• 33:46
  Speaker 7: Like?
• 33:49
  Speaker 5: That's a fact? Now that's a fact. Yeah, I gave
• 33:53
  Speaker 5: you that.
• 33:54
Speaker 7: I like, I'll give you that also for y'all kind
• 33:57
Speaker 7: of delusion on two like you can overthrow it. It'd
• 34:02
Speaker 7: be a bad throwing the dB doing something.
• 34:07
Speaker 4: See see that's new school. That ain't old school. If
• 34:10
Speaker 4: we old school, we only take credit for what we do.
• 34:14
Speaker 7: I'm gonna ask you this, you a dB, what was
• 34:16
Speaker 7: your what was your pregame? Swag? Like? Every like your
• 34:19
Speaker 7: wrist band had to be a certain way, y'all.
• 34:21
Speaker 4: Ury I want to hear this. Okay, So I was
• 34:25
Speaker 4: a spatter, so I would spat my shoes.
• 34:27
Speaker 5: You know, my cleats. I spat him up, boy, and
• 34:30
  Speaker 5: I take.
• 34:30
Speaker 4: My wrists and I had had you know, you had
• 34:34
Speaker 4: the towel. You had to put the towel right the
• 34:36
Speaker 4: town had to be right on the side on the hip.
• 34:38
Speaker 4: You know, you had the glove. You did the gloves too,
• 34:41
Speaker 4: you know, see you did the elbow elbow band. But
• 34:45
Speaker 4: see I had two years with with with Bud Grant
• 34:48
Speaker 4: and Bud Grant, you know, he was strict on what
• 34:51
Speaker 4: how you look like, you know you we need to
• 34:54
Speaker 4: look like a team.
• 34:55
Speaker 5: So he kind of tapered some of that.
• 34:58
Speaker 4: Then in my third in my second year when we
• 35:00
Speaker 4: had less stuckle, he kind of try to step in
• 35:02
Speaker 4: and do that same kind of thing. But after that
• 35:04
Speaker 4: it was kind of it was kind of like wide open.
• 35:07
Speaker 4: We could do kind of really whatever you want it.
• 35:09
Speaker 4: You know, you could spat it up and then you know,
• 35:11
Speaker 4: smatch your cleats up and draw something on it if
• 35:13
Speaker 4: you wanted whatever, you know, put your number on it, whatever,
• 35:16
  Speaker 4: you know.
• 35:17
Speaker 7: So whats used todss.
• 35:22
  Speaker 4: I?
• 35:22
  Speaker 5: See I don't I didn't play. I didn't play with him.
• 35:25
  Speaker 7: OK.
• 35:26
Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gone before he got there.
• 35:27
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, But Bret, I'm telling you, the dress code
• 35:32
Speaker 4: is important for you. You don't come out on the
• 35:35
Speaker 4: field until you ready. Now and here's the here's what
• 35:38
Speaker 4: people don't know. So like the warm up, when you
• 35:41
Speaker 4: come out like prior to the game, you know, before
• 35:44
Speaker 4: before the whole team comes out, you got your own look.
• 35:47
Speaker 5: You got your look to come out there. You know,
• 35:49
  Speaker 5: you got got.
• 35:49
Speaker 4: That look first, and then when it's the whole team
• 35:54
Speaker 4: or special teams are coming out, you got that look.
• 35:58
Speaker 4: Then when you're coming out final for the game, you
• 36:00
Speaker 4: got you got the whole complete look.
• 36:03
Speaker 5: You know. That's just that's that's just how it was.
• 36:06
Speaker 4: Let me ask you a question, Pap, while we got you,
• 36:08
Speaker 4: what far as the draft, just so we can talk
• 36:12
Speaker 4: about that. What what's what's your what's your feelings on
• 36:14
Speaker 4: the top maybe two or three picks or can you
• 36:17
  Speaker 4: say that?
• 36:17
Speaker 5: I don't know if you can go there?
• 36:19
Speaker 7: No go there. I ain't got no dog in the
• 36:21
Speaker 7: fight this. I feel like cam Ward is and that's
• 36:29
Speaker 7: gonna go to the Titans. Sure, I think too. The
• 36:33
Speaker 7: Browns need to to do something right. I think they're
• 36:37
Speaker 7: gonna I think they're gonna go get Travis Hunter, energize
• 36:41
Speaker 7: their fan base, exciting player. They're gonna find a way
• 36:46
Speaker 7: to creative ways to use them on both sides. At
• 36:49
Speaker 7: three I can see that's the Giants.
• 36:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, I believe the door.
• 36:53
Speaker 7: Thing is a smoke screen. I believe they go dual
• 36:57
Speaker 7: Carter okay for the Patriots. I can see the Patriots
• 37:01
Speaker 7: go and get alignment, probably Will Campbell or maybe the
• 37:04
Speaker 7: kid from Missouri, whoever they have higher. But I mean,
• 37:08
Speaker 7: I think all of those guys can really play. Man.
• 37:10
Speaker 7: So it's just like this year's first round is gonna
• 37:13
Speaker 7: be more defense. Every thing was mostly offense, so sometimes
• 37:16
Speaker 7: it alternates. This year defense is gonna be at the forefront.
• 37:20
Speaker 7: You might see twenty twenty three guys on defensive draft.
• 37:25
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 37:25
Speaker 6: Now, just as far as the Browns pick is concerned,
• 37:28
Speaker 6: you know, I'm a big Travis Hunter fan.
• 37:30
Speaker 5: I thought he was phenomenal.
• 37:31
Speaker 6: So but to that pick into a franchise like that,
• 37:34
Speaker 6: that is rebuilding. Do you take the player like Travis
• 37:38
Speaker 6: Hunter or do you take like more of a foundational
• 37:41
Speaker 6: player like that good offensive or defensive lineman, or do
• 37:44
Speaker 6: you think or is he just the best player player
• 37:46
Speaker 6: available in that slot.
• 37:48
Speaker 7: I think he's the best available player in that slide.
• 37:50
Speaker 7: I think when you're picking at the top of two,
• 37:53
Speaker 7: which you are, you're gonna get a defecto first round,
• 37:56
Speaker 7: so you can get creative there. Maybe trade into the
• 37:59
Speaker 7: first if you want to go get a quarterback because
• 38:02
Speaker 7: you got a top two, right you say, I tell
• 38:04
Speaker 7: you like a GM. Sometimes you got to top of
• 38:06
Speaker 7: two pick, which is really a first round pick. You're
• 38:08
Speaker 7: gonna have somebody with a first round grade go there,
• 38:11
Speaker 7: so you can go get it. Go get a d
• 38:12
Speaker 7: lineman there top you know, old lineman. That's gonna be
• 38:15
  Speaker 7: a starter. I just don't. I'm not in the in
• 38:17
Speaker 7: the business of passing on once in a generation tight players. Yeah,
• 38:23
Speaker 7: and I think you can overthink it. I don't think
• 38:26
Speaker 7: they said, oh, I think you run that card up.
• 38:29
Speaker 7: You draft Travis Hunter and you ball. You look, you
• 38:33
Speaker 7: go ball. If you put them on deep or you
• 38:35
Speaker 7: put them on defense, you already got ward on the
• 38:36
Speaker 7: other side of righting your Your receiver room is kind
• 38:40
Speaker 7: of Jerry Judy pretty much. And you know, no notable
• 38:43
Speaker 7: guys other than that. You give them twenty twenty five
• 38:45
Speaker 7: players in a package, find manufacturer touches for them, screens,
• 38:50
Speaker 7: getting them the ball in space, and sometimes it's the
• 38:52
Speaker 7: thread of him out there, you know, send them out
• 38:53
Speaker 7: on a vertical, get tight ends open. So I think
• 38:56
Speaker 7: you go do that, man, and you you know you're
• 38:59
Speaker 7: gonna be picking right there next year anyway. Quarterback class
• 39:05
Speaker 7: next year, you know, so are are? You know, if
• 39:09
Speaker 7: you're feeling it, feeling it, feeling it like you really are?
• 39:11
Speaker 7: You make a trade at seven with somebody and come
• 39:14
Speaker 7: get the door. What do you get? You reunite Sedor
• 39:20
Speaker 7: and uh travers if you like, right, who's at seven
• 39:26
Speaker 7: to je You just got to get up to eight
• 39:28
Speaker 7: ahead of New Orleans. So you make a trade with
• 39:31
Speaker 7: Carolina mm hmm. They got to give up a two.
• 39:35
Speaker 7: You probably got to give up some stuff. But I mean,
• 39:38
Speaker 7: if you believe in Shador that much, that means you're
• 39:41
Speaker 7: you're banking on the He's better than next year's quarterback
• 39:43
  Speaker 7: class anyway.
• 39:44
Speaker 5: So yeah, I like sha Door. It's a quarterback.
• 39:46
Speaker 6: I mean, I've never seen, you know, a young quarterback
• 39:49
Speaker 6: delivered the ball with such accuracy that's particularly underpressure. The
• 39:53
Speaker 6: only thing I worry about when you look at the
• 39:55
Speaker 6: modern quarterbacks that Jalen hurts, the Lamar Jackson's they got
• 39:59
Speaker 6: them wheels, and I I'm not sure if he's going
• 40:01
Speaker 6: to be able to to to do what needs to
• 40:04
Speaker 6: be done in a modern sense of football as far
• 40:06
Speaker 6: as that is concerned.
• 40:08
Speaker 7: Here's my thing, though, Matt Stafford isn't a crazy at
• 40:12
Speaker 7: least if you're an elite processor. Okay, you know, I
• 40:15
Speaker 7: think if you're an elite processor and you get the
• 40:18
Speaker 7: ball out quick, you go through your progressives and your reads,
• 40:20
Speaker 7: which I think he does. He has a you know,
• 40:22
Speaker 7: he took a lot of sex to Colorado. A lot
• 40:24
Speaker 7: of that was whole line related. But I'm a believer, man,
• 40:29
  Speaker 7: I'm a I'm a believer and shoulder, and I don't
• 40:34
Speaker 7: you know, the whole him being super fast thing you got.
• 40:37
Speaker 7: You know, they've got a lot of quarterbacks that ain't burners, Yeah,
• 40:41
Speaker 7: but he got you just got to be fast enough
• 40:43
Speaker 7: to be evasis as long.
• 40:44
Speaker 8: As they're not mister irrelevant right exactly to throw it
• 40:52
  Speaker 8: in there, Yes.
• 40:54
Speaker 7: Rock Purdy brock Perky irrelevant.
• 40:57
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, my brother, I tell you what.
• 41:00
Speaker 4: We appreciate the time we thought we was gonna be
• 41:02
Speaker 4: here like maybe ten fifteen, but we Yeah, we got
• 41:06
  Speaker 4: to have you.
• 41:06
  Speaker 9: Back for sure.
• 41:08
Speaker 7: I enjoyed talking to you, all.
• 41:10
Speaker 5: Right, man, We'll get back to you. Thanks, Paul, appreciate,
• 41:12
  Speaker 5: thank you.
• 41:13
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 41:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, So I don't know if I want to get
• 41:19
Speaker 5: any credit for that. I don't know if I would
• 41:23
Speaker 5: have given any credit. He's awesome, but that's a conversation there.
• 41:27
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, like, you know, and and
• 41:29
Speaker 4: the fact that even came out with his ques in
• 41:33
Speaker 4: the car actually happens to you.
• 41:39

Speaker 4: give it viny credit.
• 42:38
  Speaker 5: He's awesome, but that's a conversation there.
• 42:41
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Like you know, and and
• 42:43
Speaker 4: the fact that he actually himself even came out with
• 42:45
  Speaker 4: his own questions.
• 42:47
Speaker 5: You know, I think I thought.
• 42:48
Speaker 9: That the future media. Absolutely, yeah, he's got a future.
• 42:53
Speaker 6: So so I know we wanted to talk. We ain't
• 42:56
Speaker 6: got that much time left, so.
• 43:00
Speaker 9: Lies we could talk about Nico. I think that's pretty.
• 43:03
Speaker 5: Important to you. Yeah, okay, let's let's do that. So
• 43:06
Speaker 5: tell us talk to us a little bit about the story.
• 43:09
  Speaker 9: Okay.
• 43:10
Speaker 8: So, so we all know Nico, and I hope I
• 43:13
Speaker 8: say his last name right, I'm a Lava.
• 43:15
Speaker 9: Did I say it right?
• 43:17
  Speaker 5: Okay?
• 43:21
  Speaker 7: So he is.
• 43:23
Speaker 8: He was the quarterback at a Tennessee, a starter, and
• 43:27
Speaker 8: he was being paid by the school and the alumni
• 43:31
Speaker 8: in ale funds, and he was making basically about at
• 43:36
Speaker 8: one point he was making about two million total, I guess,
• 43:40
Speaker 8: with endorsements and everything.
• 43:41
  Speaker 9: And then he.
• 43:42
Speaker 8: Decided this past off season, this offseason right now, that
• 43:46
Speaker 8: he wanted that increase to four million. And so the
• 43:51
Speaker 8: volunteer fan base, the coaches, the administration did not take
• 43:56
Speaker 8: well to that. Actually, the head coach, coach Hype even said,
• 44:00
Speaker 8: which is something that kind of stuck with me. And
• 44:03
Speaker 8: I'm hoping that a lot of the coaches at at
• 44:06
Speaker 8: you know, big schools around the nation also kind of
• 44:08
Speaker 8: take it to heart that no one is bigger than
• 44:11
Speaker 8: the program and that's a fact.
• 44:12
Speaker 9: Basically, they let him go and.
• 44:14
Speaker 6: He attempted to hold out by saying he missed practice.
• 44:17
Speaker 6: He yes, So basically it was a it was a
• 44:20
  Speaker 6: holdout for it.
• 44:20
Speaker 4: Was a holdout for the definitely, yes, it was definitely
• 44:23
Speaker 4: a holdout and saying if I'm not gonna do anything
• 44:26
Speaker 4: until y'all payment paid more, yes, which.
• 44:30
Speaker 9: I think that the whole setup of his NIL deal.
• 44:34
Speaker 8: He would have at one point if he would have
• 44:35
Speaker 8: stayed with the program went through the complete four years
• 44:39
Speaker 8: that he had signed up for, with the incentives that
• 44:41
Speaker 8: were in there, with wins and his successes, it would
• 44:45
Speaker 8: have increased to more than that. But he wasn't willing
• 44:47
Speaker 8: to stick it out.
• 44:48
Speaker 5: And again, this is one of those things.
• 44:50
Speaker 6: While I'm a little conflicted on this because we've seen
• 44:52
Speaker 6: coaches do this, right, We've seen coaches lead programs that
• 44:55
Speaker 6: they were vested in if they had success, then for
• 44:58
Speaker 6: more money, U essentially hold out to try to stick
• 45:02
Speaker 6: the team up for more money. I just think, again,
• 45:04
Speaker 6: when I look at this, this is an n double
• 45:06
  Speaker 6: A in the n C double A problem. This is
• 45:08
Speaker 6: an n C double A issue and they should have
• 45:11
Speaker 6: fixed it when they had the opportunity. But now it's
• 45:14
Speaker 6: the wild wild West, you know what I mean? I
• 45:18
Speaker 6: agree with the whole wild wild West issue. And and
• 45:22
Speaker 6: and what what what bothers me.
• 45:26
Speaker 4: Is because again and in this past conversation we had,
• 45:29
Speaker 4: we talked about teamwork, you know, and it is about
• 45:32
  Speaker 4: team and.
• 45:36
  Speaker 5: It's gotten to a point.
• 45:37
Speaker 4: What we what nil has created is individualized situations in
• 45:43
Speaker 4: the sport. Because Hollis gets X, and I think I'm
• 45:48
Speaker 4: better than Hollis. I got to go in and I
• 45:50
Speaker 4: gotta get X plus plus. And I think that was
• 45:53
  Speaker 4: the case.
• 45:53
  Speaker 5: Yes, we were.
• 45:55
Speaker 6: He was a quarterback and I think his name is
• 45:57
Speaker 6: Becker in Miami. He's getting for me, So I think
• 46:00
Speaker 6: that's where the Nico the kid got that number.
• 46:03
Speaker 4: And then and the fact that you can walk aw now,
• 46:06
Speaker 4: let's be honest, let's just be honest. We're talking collegiate sports. Yeah, right,
• 46:11
Speaker 4: top level collegiate sports. You are walking away from let's
• 46:18
Speaker 4: just say three million dollars, right, because because you want
• 46:22
  Speaker 4: four over over.
• 46:24
Speaker 5: Your time for this year, for that year, da da
• 46:26
Speaker 5: da da, da, Are.
• 46:28
Speaker 4: You kidding me to to to play collegiate football. You
• 46:33
Speaker 4: have the you have the audacity to walk away from
• 46:37
  Speaker 4: four million dollars.
• 46:38
Speaker 6: But it's hard. But I think it's hard to argue.
• 46:42
Speaker 6: I seen a report yesterday where the SEC is a
• 46:46
Speaker 6: conference made like eight hundred million or some like close
• 46:50
Speaker 6: to some several billion dollars as a conference. It's hard
• 46:53
Speaker 6: to argue. It's hard for me to say, well, he's
• 46:55
Speaker 6: he's wrong for doing that when you're seeing all this
• 46:58
  Speaker 6: money on.
• 46:59
Speaker 5: The table across the board.
• 47:00
Speaker 4: No, I believe that collegiate sports are making tons of money.
• 47:06
Speaker 4: I also believe like this, the NFL makes tons of money. Okay,
• 47:12
Speaker 4: but does that mean that a collegiate player should make
• 47:21
Speaker 4: that kind of money? Again, I don't. But again, they
• 47:25
Speaker 4: weren't asking for this. The players were not asking asked
• 47:29
Speaker 4: for a piece of a pie.
• 47:31
Speaker 6: And because the n Cuba failed to act, this is
• 47:35
Speaker 6: the result. And again I'm not saying it's got to
• 47:39
Speaker 6: get tightened up. I don't think we can stay here.
• 47:41
  Speaker 5: We can't.
• 47:42
Speaker 8: No, we cannot live here. And this is something interesting.
• 47:44
Speaker 8: And we've all talked about the transfer portal a lot
• 47:47
Speaker 8: on this podcast, but this is a different angle that
• 47:51
Speaker 8: I'm going to present to you guys that I wasn't
• 47:53
  Speaker 8: aware of.
• 47:54
Speaker 9: Maybe you guys were.
• 47:56
  Speaker 5: But in this.
• 47:57
Speaker 8: Specific instance, when when Nico entered the the transfer portal,
• 48:01
Speaker 8: he entered with a tag of do not contact. Okay, okay, okay,
• 48:06
Speaker 8: I know there's a dude, whenever you enter the portal,
• 48:09
Speaker 8: there's a possibility if you want to you can. You
• 48:12
Speaker 8: can enter with a tag that says do not contact,
• 48:15
Speaker 8: which means one of two things.
• 48:16
Speaker 9: One of two things.
• 48:17
Speaker 8: One of them is that he already knows where he's going,
• 48:19
Speaker 8: he's already got to do in place, or his representatives
• 48:25
Speaker 8: will contact your school to let you know you're interested.
• 48:29
Speaker 9: So it's one of two things.
• 48:30
Speaker 8: Either he already knew he was going and we found
• 48:32
  Speaker 8: out the seating he's going to U c l A.
• 48:34
Speaker 4: Correct, is that what I don't think those deals are
• 48:37
  Speaker 4: officially done?
• 48:39
Speaker 8: Well, the possibility he's going there. So here's the one
• 48:42
Speaker 8: of two things. When he went into that portal, he
• 48:44
  Speaker 8: either knew that l U c l A wanted him
• 48:47
Speaker 8: and maybe that's why he did the things he did
• 48:48
Speaker 8: with Tennessee to get out of that, or he's going
• 48:52
Speaker 8: he's in his mind he Is that all that that
• 48:56
Speaker 8: he's able to pick where he wants to go and
• 48:59
Speaker 8: have his peeple contact their people.
• 49:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's it. That's like a franchise tag or something
• 49:04
  Speaker 5: like that.
• 49:05
Speaker 9: But my question to my question, I didn't know that though,
• 49:07
  Speaker 9: did you?
• 49:07
Speaker 5: Guys? No idea that.
• 49:12
Speaker 4: I'm trying to figure out, Like, Okay, I'm a colleague
• 49:18
Speaker 4: athlete and I'm getting ready to say how much money
• 49:25
  Speaker 4: I want for n I l that sounds like so
• 49:30
Speaker 4: my question the question that that comes to me in that, Okay,
• 49:33
Speaker 4: so I got to look at Hollis and see what
• 49:35
  Speaker 4: he's making.
• 49:35
Speaker 5: I gotta look at least and see what she's making.
• 49:37
Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, Like I am?
• 49:38
  Speaker 1: I am?
• 49:38
Speaker 4: I researching players to see where I fit.
• 49:43
Speaker 5: Definitely doing that. Somebody's doing it for some I have
• 49:46
Speaker 5: to assume somebody is doing it. Yeah.
• 49:48
Speaker 4: Now the question becomes to me, which is again a
• 49:52
Speaker 4: pro issue. Like so I said, so you're making four million,
• 49:57
Speaker 4: So I'm thinking, now, oh, shoot, if Hollis is making
• 50:00
Speaker 4: in four million, then I need to make four and
• 50:02
Speaker 4: a half or five?
• 50:04
Speaker 5: Yeah? How am I? How am I processing my skill
• 50:09
Speaker 5: set versus you? Is it? Stats?
• 50:11
Speaker 4: Are we going by stats, or we just thinking that
• 50:14
Speaker 4: we got the skill.
• 50:15
Speaker 5: Set, I think, or it's the same thing you will
• 50:17
Speaker 5: processing in a pro sense.
• 50:18
Speaker 6: You're looking at your success versus that guy's success, that
• 50:21
Speaker 6: guy's versus your status. You're looking at all those things.
• 50:23
Speaker 6: I mean, he did take Tennessee to the playoffs. He
• 50:26
Speaker 6: was a good quarterback.
• 50:27
  Speaker 7: Now you.
• 50:29
Speaker 4: Said he took him to the playoffs, but.
• 50:32
Speaker 9: Yeah, I think they were there. They were part of
• 50:34
  Speaker 9: the conversation.
• 50:35
Speaker 5: But if you're quarterback, that's coming back and I'm saying,
• 50:38
  Speaker 5: maybe you.
• 50:39
Speaker 4: Want to be the top you want to be the
• 50:40
Speaker 4: top pay quarterback, and and and you got into the
• 50:43
  Speaker 4: play but.
• 50:44
Speaker 9: Else it depends on what the school needs.
• 50:46
Speaker 8: I mean, maybe the school has players in place that
• 50:48
Speaker 8: you know would be able to push him to the
• 50:51
Speaker 8: next level. You know, if you're going to Ohio State
• 50:54
  Speaker 8: from Tennessee, that's that's a that's a huge difference in
• 50:57
Speaker 8: talent levels really, and.
• 50:59
Speaker 6: Again, I just think is one of those things where
• 51:01
Speaker 6: it really it just from from a fans perspective, it's
• 51:06
Speaker 6: ruined college sports. And because I think the legacy angle
• 51:10
Speaker 6: of what college sports were is gone. Because I think
• 51:13
Speaker 6: when you're looking at like, you know, those tim Tebow's
• 51:16
Speaker 6: and those other guys that we grew up watching, they
• 51:20
Speaker 6: were distinctly associated with that university.
• 51:23
Speaker 5: I seen one guy who been in like six different schools.
• 51:26
Speaker 6: I seen the there was they were talking about men
• 51:30
Speaker 6: Majors in basketball and they look at the three players
• 51:32
Speaker 6: and now they're all gone going to Division I school.
• 51:35
Speaker 6: So it's like the legacy that you could have established
• 51:38
Speaker 6: being at a school and being known for that school
• 51:41
  Speaker 6: is just gone.
• 51:43
Speaker 5: And I think that.
• 51:44
Speaker 6: That's the part that we're going to have to wrestle
• 51:46
Speaker 6: to figure if we can sort of pull that back,
• 51:49
Speaker 6: because that's the heart of collegiate sports.
• 51:51
  Speaker 4: I don't think I don't think that kids see or
• 51:55
Speaker 4: care quote about their legacy from somewhere.
• 52:02
Speaker 5: You got a kid, want money.
• 52:03
Speaker 6: You got two kids, these like top basketball players going
• 52:07
Speaker 6: to be Y, you going there.
• 52:10
Speaker 5: They're like the top basketball ones.
• 52:12
Speaker 4: Ones coming out of high school going to be YU,
• 52:14
Speaker 4: and the other one was like a transfer. These are
• 52:15
Speaker 4: like top basketball I forget their name, top basketball players.
• 52:18
Speaker 4: And because b YU has a structure where they're going
• 52:21
Speaker 4: to really pay you. So now these kids now they're
• 52:24
Speaker 4: not thinking about like Kentucky, they're not thinking about the dukes,
• 52:26
Speaker 4: the tar Hills, Kansas. It's like I'm going to who
• 52:30
Speaker 4: can pay the most well, regardless of anything, and to
• 52:33
Speaker 4: that if I can get that money in in.
• 52:37
  Speaker 5: College, I don't need it.
• 52:40
Speaker 4: I'm not worried about pro at least not right now,
• 52:42
Speaker 4: not right now, not right now.
• 52:44
Speaker 8: And I'm going to throw this out here, guys, because
• 52:46
Speaker 8: I think what's what's happened with the transfer portal was
• 52:49
Speaker 8: not not what the n C double A intended when
• 52:52
Speaker 8: they when they kind of created it. It's become it's
• 52:56
Speaker 8: become a leverage tool. I mean, these you know what
• 53:01
Speaker 8: I'm saying. I mean they're going to the school and
• 53:03
Speaker 8: they're saying, hey, I know I can get in this portal,
• 53:05
  Speaker 8: make more money.
• 53:05
Speaker 5: What can you what can you give me?
• 53:07
Speaker 9: I need more? I need more.
• 53:08
Speaker 8: And so it's become something completely different than what I
• 53:12
Speaker 8: think the NC double A intended it to be.
• 53:14
Speaker 5: I don't know if they intended on anything.
• 53:16
Speaker 6: Like I'm never for calling for somebody's job, but I
• 53:18
Speaker 6: think we need a whole new administration.
• 53:21
Speaker 5: I mean, I seriously think that.
• 53:22
  Speaker 6: I think far as n C double A is concerned,
• 53:25
Speaker 6: we need all new everything from top to bottom of it.
• 53:28
Speaker 4: Okay, here here's here's the problem with that. I can
• 53:30
Speaker 4: totally agree with it, but here's the problem with it. Okay,
• 53:34
Speaker 4: So me and Lisa are coming in, like what are
• 53:37
Speaker 4: we doing? Like, like what what changes can we Because
• 53:40
Speaker 4: the moment we touch any kind of money, the changes
• 53:43
Speaker 4: that you If I was depulated, if I wouldn't even
• 53:47
  Speaker 4: I was, I wouldn't, that wouldn't be my first thing.
• 53:49
Speaker 4: My first thing would be to the money's gonna come
• 53:52
Speaker 4: from us, forget all the NIL stuff. So we're going
• 53:56
Speaker 4: to do a revenue shame model at this level. Yes,
• 53:59
Speaker 4: so it's n CUBA because that's how you regulate it,
• 54:02
Speaker 4: because now hows it stands if it's a third party
• 54:05
Speaker 4: in IL, just like West Virginia just passed the law,
• 54:07
Speaker 4: it hasn't yet to be signed by the governor where
• 54:09
Speaker 4: nonprofits can now come in and be part of the
• 54:12
Speaker 4: school essentially and help regulate to help deal with the
• 54:15
Speaker 4: NIL stuff. So if I'm the n c DOUBLEA, the
• 54:18
Speaker 4: very first thing I'm doing is I'm I'm gonna have
• 54:21
Speaker 4: to do like a President Trump those things start cutting
• 54:24
Speaker 4: some some some fat around so I can free up
• 54:26
Speaker 4: some money, and I'm going to do a revenue shame model.
• 54:30
Speaker 4: So that way I can control it, because outside of that,
• 54:33
Speaker 4: you're not going to control it.
• 54:33
Speaker 5: You can't just need limit rules.
• 54:35
Speaker 4: They don't care because they don't they don't need that body,
• 54:37
Speaker 4: that government body anymore.
• 54:38
  Speaker 8: It's sprald out of control now. I mean it's it's
• 54:40
Speaker 8: completely out of control. It's about who has the most money,
• 54:43
Speaker 8: is who's going to win. Look a look at March Madness.
• 54:46
  Speaker 8: What happened there?
• 54:47
Speaker 9: It was the top four number one seeds.
• 54:50
Speaker 8: The Cinderella has disappeared, It has completely decimated the Cinderella story.
• 54:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, that that's almost virtually impossible to happen.
• 54:57
Speaker 6: And it just like to the Gramblin coach when he
• 54:59
Speaker 6: was saying, like, if you pick one of my players off,
• 55:02
Speaker 6: you should have to do a buyout. Sure, and I
• 55:05
Speaker 6: do like and I think that's competitive balance, right, I think?
• 55:08
Speaker 6: So I think something something to that degree has to happen,
• 55:11
Speaker 6: right because you because basically the smaller schools are just
• 55:14
Speaker 6: farm teams for the bigger.
• 55:15
Speaker 5: Schools, right, And I really do.
• 55:18
Speaker 4: And if you think about it, if you sit back
• 55:19
Speaker 4: and you look at it, and you say, okay, so
• 55:21
Speaker 4: Gramblin loses a player to Alabama, So now Alabama now
• 55:26
Speaker 4: has to pay gramblin X number of dollars or percentage
• 55:33
Speaker 4: of what you're paying that player, however they want to
• 55:36
Speaker 4: work that. I think that I think that is the
• 55:39
Speaker 4: perfect I think that is perfect because I think that
• 55:42
Speaker 4: allows the schools who are, like you said, are creating
• 55:47
Speaker 4: these young athletes that end up jumping ship and going
• 55:51
Speaker 4: somewhere bigger. You can't afford to lose those guys unless
• 55:55
Speaker 4: you get unless, unless it's money in, you're getting money back.
• 56:00
  Speaker 6: And and I think the n C double A they
• 56:03
Speaker 6: they the money has to come from them, so that
• 56:05
Speaker 6: money has to come from them in the conferences.
• 56:07
Speaker 5: So that way you can fully control because.
• 56:10
Speaker 6: Having a third party, if you have a you know,
• 56:12
Speaker 6: a Jeff Bezo who is your benefactor, it's just endless,
• 56:18
  Speaker 6: endless money.
• 56:19
Speaker 8: And you know what else, we also have to look
• 56:20
Speaker 8: at the transfer portal rules now, I mean if they've
• 56:23
Speaker 8: got things like you know, the the do not contact tag.
• 56:26
  Speaker 9: I mean that that's.
• 56:27
Speaker 8: A whole new level to that that I didn't even know,
• 56:31
  Speaker 8: I mean insisted, so, I mean, I know, it's just
• 56:35
Speaker 8: there's so many things that are wrong right now with
• 56:38
Speaker 8: all of it, and and and the n C Double
• 56:40
Speaker 8: A is going to have to intervene.
• 56:41
Speaker 9: They have to do something.
• 56:42
Speaker 5: If they can, if they can, if they can, that's
• 56:45
  Speaker 5: a question.
• 56:46
Speaker 4: Well again, we in the show on on college sports
• 56:53
  Speaker 4: and money.
• 56:54
Speaker 5: That seems to be n I L seems to be
• 56:56
Speaker 5: the way. We always got to come five, always not
• 56:59
  Speaker 5: coming back here.
