- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Happy Friday in Cleveland, Ohio, York, Cleveland, Guardians, just two wins away from their first trip to the world series.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: In 10 years, Jack O'Rourke alongside Chris, reflog, McNeil, and Ryan Tyler.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, how you doing today?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: Got to be great, right?
- 0:15[SPEAKER_04]: This is amazing.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_04]: Another great fall Friday here in Ohio.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_04]: I've got two games tonight for my boys.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_04]: One at Licking Valley.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_04]: The other one at Miller Sport here in Licking County.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm excited about that.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_04]: And then right now, Jack.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_04]: We've got the guards tonight.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_04]: We'll see what ends up happening with this weather.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_04]: It's supposed to be windy.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_04]: It's supposed to be rainy.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's supposed to be ugly up there.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_04]: But they're going to give it a go.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_04]: They say at eight, ten, denied it.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_04]: It'll be interested to see how that weather affects things.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_04]: Because we know in Cleveland that certainly rain delays have a bad connotation around here.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_04]: So hopefully we can navigate it.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_04]: Man, we navigated a great yesterday.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_04]: The game gets bumped up to one o'clock.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_04]: Wow, what a performance.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_04]: What a performance at home.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_04]: Just felt good yesterday after new kind of rolling into today.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: So, hey, I'm looking forward to a great weekend.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_04]: Let's get it started tonight, right?
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, the seas are going to be angry tonight for sure.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan, how you doing today?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, I'm doing good on buzz and man.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: We were at the game last night and we're actually our last night.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: I say last day, but you can't wait.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about how it didn't rain unless I'm mistaken.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's like a projected tube, but I'm absolutely buzzing still.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, it was awesome.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm going to make my way back to the corner of Carnegie Carnegie Ontario tonight.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I can't Chris listen man.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: I want to ask you, are you started to let yourself believe the world series is actually happening or are you even scared to say this thing out loud?
- 1:40[SPEAKER_04]: I'm scared to say it out loud to be honest with you.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_04]: Like I said last week, you know, the baseball gods are always watching us especially here in Cleveland, we've been jinxed so many times.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm taking it as many players say, one game at a time, we're going to focus on the one tonight, not get ahead of ourselves, but man, you can't help but look forward a little bit when you see what happens last night, LA goes down the
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: Man, oh man, the cards are really starting to line up for us right now in Cleveland.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_04]: So in exciting time for sure, we got to get it done tonight.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be real interesting.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_04]: We'll talk about it a little bit, but you got armstrong as the opener here tonight.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't know.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_04]: It's been kind of a crazy off season.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_04]: You're not just setting your watch by this rotation.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_04]: And vote has had to really come up with some different combinations to make it work up
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, have you started picturing the Guardians back in the world series or like I said to Chris, are you even afraid to say those words out loud?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: See Chris, I'm the opposite of you.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Hell yeah, I've thought about it.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: How can you not?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, two wins away.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's it's soft because hey, we're Cleveland fans.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: You think about blowing leads on the playoffs like being up to oh in the ALDS on the Yankees in 2017.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: They're up three one in the ALCS on the red socks in 2007 with a trip to the world series online and couldn't close out out of three chances.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: 2016 World Series, you're up three one couldn't close out three chances.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah,
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: round by in world series tickets or anything yet.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: I would say, but at the same time, man, like, how could you not enjoy, like, P helping?
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Who wasn't even here for half the year?
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: But more than half the year, no one thought he could have a baseball gets to play off lines two out towards the gap in game five and then comes out, hits a home.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: PD helping is like it's like this time it's like Ryan merit this time around how could you not be excited and live in the moment with it right like the whole entire city should be absolutely buzzing today and why not have fun with it like it's okay to look forward a little bit and be hopeful like Chris said hey you see the Dodgers go down that's a that's a big gun right and I think you can find a good balance of both of being hopeful and also like hey we can we can show a little
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, we'll get to the stuff with Jensen about the analytics should we kind of expect the Guardians to get to the world series now that they have a two-unlead game for is at home, but let's have fun with this.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, P.D.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: Helpin.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you could have wrote a better October script than for a guy like P.D.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Helpin.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: How great did he go from a guy you barely talked about to somebody that you might remember him in this moment for the rest of your life.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely, a guy who's been in and out of the lineup, one of those guys who's kind of an afterthought on this team.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of times he's just a pinch runner, right?
- 4:21[SPEAKER_04]: During the season for us who've watched the whole regular season, we certainly didn't expect this out of PD helping and man, showing up when it counts there, showing a little bit of power because he's not known for his bat, but man, oh man, he's
- 4:35[SPEAKER_04]: when you're looking for this team to get a spark you know that it's got to come from uncommon places a lot of times right it can't be Jose every night although he has made a really strong showing here during this series you need these guys to step up and we talk about the young guys coming out of nowhere and so far that's worked you'd never know who's going to provide the spark any given night right now for the guardians it makes it fun
- 5:02[SPEAKER_04]: But it also makes it very anxious for us as fans, at least for me when I'm watching it because you don't know, you see Jose go down and you go, uh-oh, uh-oh, he doesn't have it tonight.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_04]: Where is this offense going to come from?
- 5:14[SPEAKER_04]: But right now we're figuring it out.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_04]: And like we talked about before the show, too.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_04]: We're not necessarily doing this with guardsball.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_04]: everybody likes to talk about guards ball this guards ball that that's fine that's what got us here but the games that we're winning in the playoffs we're winning because of what PD happened did we're winning because we're hitting home runs now right we're winning with the long ball so that's got to continue that's going to be awful tough when the weather gets real ugly tonight so it'd be interesting to see how that one plays probably be a different ball game entirely but ultimately the team has had to hit home runs we've been able to hit home runs
- 5:49[SPEAKER_04]: and they've come from very uncommon spots and good for you, PD, keep it up, man.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, I think if you told people that some rookies would have an impact in the playoff for the Guardians, you wouldn't be surprised, obviously, but I don't think the top of your list or maybe your second and third guests, maybe the biggest impact of all the rookies, maybe outside of Parker, is PD helping, man.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: How real is this?
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: real enough man, right?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think he got when you get his first run.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is it some time for last year?
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: I believe when they came on that crazy comeback.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: So like he got a little bit of not playoff experience, but important baseball experience last year.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris hit the nail on the head with it is like, it's by committee.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's just win today and then move on to the next thing.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it can't be Jose Ramirez every single night.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: And it can't be chased a lot or every single night.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what makes the playoff so fun is you have your your rokyos a couple
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oscar Gonzalez is of the world.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: John Kenzino, well, ad PD help into the list now.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're need efforts out of guys like that, who you might not expect it to just get hot at the right time.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: And even dude, two games on the playoffs, you wouldn't have thought it right.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's in for the guy who led your team in home runs in the regular season.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Rokio ended up getting a hit yesterday, but there was a very real conversation about benching your guy who led the team in home runs in on Helm Martinez and the guy who led your team in RBIs and Brian Rokio.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's how crazy this run is and just for PD to show up like that, it's ridiculous because like Chris had not known for his bad at all.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_04]: Just go ahead on the opposite end, you got guys like Patrick Bailey hitting home runs, right?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_04]: Nathaniel low getting a huge hit in this series.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_04]: So you never know where it's going to come from, where that pop come from.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_04]: but it works.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_04]: But it works.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_04]: And then that's where, you know, a lot, a lot of people do dog voter for some of the decisions he makes during the course of the year.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_04]: But he's constantly trying to figure out how we can produce at the plate because we don't have that big consistent hitter.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_04]: And we haven't had that big consistent hitter all year long.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_04]: but it seems like boy, he's just pulling the right strings right now.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_04]: He's pulling the right levers.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_04]: He's getting this team to believe and he's getting enough offense out of them that were winning ball games.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: So I give voter a lot more credit than I think a lot of the fanbase does right now.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, you at the game I was too, but I wasn't with you at the moment.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: What was that moment like when PD hit it out?
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: What was it crowd going like?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: I will say that the Jose homerun in game five was definitely more crazy like I was literally a part of a dog pile I think when Jose had the homerun in game five, but no it was nuts because it was another one of those homers We're like and again, we all saw the PD help in bat flip when one that thing lands Please let me know that thing might still be in the air right now, but he said he blacked out
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, do you throw it so high up in the air, but also it was a nook.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone in the park knew off the bat.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the most fun home runs is when you're not like, oh, is it going to get over the wall when like everyone in the ballpark can just collectively 30,000 people at one PM on a Thursday, which by the way, the fine people have Tampa Bay Florida could never do on their best day if they wanted to.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: When everyone can collectively lose their shit like that, coolest thing in the world.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's just so awesome.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, when you look at this team and you brought it up a little bit, but kind of elaborate on it, how much more believable does this world series run feel to you because we know that every big moment doesn't have to come at the shoulders of Jose Ramirez.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, anything can happen.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_04]: We talk about it a lot in the baseball playoffs.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_04]: It anything literally can happen and will happen when it comes to our guardians.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, sometimes you just don't have the magic, right?
- 9:05[SPEAKER_04]: And that's what it really takes.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's not like we're LA or you say, hey, we're just going to roll it out there.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_04]: We've got these guys who are just all stars across our entire roster, who we've paid, bucuses of bucks to go out there and they're made for October.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_04]: No, we're the plucky team who's just a bunch of young guys, right?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_04]: Who are having fun and basically winning games on the power of friendship right now.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_04]: And that's what we've been for several years.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you got Jose and the kids and then you usually have a couple of wily veterans in there like Nathaniel Low and Austin Hedge is that are kind of, you know, in the middle of the mix.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_04]: And up to this point, we've been able to make that formula work here in Cleveland and that's an exciting brand of baseball.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_04]: It's awful tough.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_04]: Like I keep saying as a fan though, because you get real nervous, but man, we have been getting those payoffs.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_04]: And like you said, Jack, I could just imagine being in that stadium with these home runs.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_04]: hear it coming through.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the calls have just been magical shout out to Rafa.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you what the Spanish language calls are next level.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_04]: And even when we're down there in Tampa, I was amazed at how many guardians fans, how many Cleveland fans were there because if you were listening in the background and something happened and you just gaged what you thought happened
- 10:32[SPEAKER_04]: Those were Guardians fans going nuts and little did you know we were the one scoring the run.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_04]: So it was really, really cool to see them show out in Tampa, show out so far at home here.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be tough.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be like a Browns game tonight for those fans that make it out there.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_04]: So it'll be it's going to be a different brand of baseball.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'm excited to see what our fans do though.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we're not done talking about the offense, but what's talk about Gavin Williams?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's another dude that we're starting to run out of superlatives for Jack.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: When you watch Gavin Williams, is it gotten to the point where you practically expect to win every single time he takes them out?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you never know because we love clover in our pitchers as much as possible.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: But no, he's pretty damn reliable, right?
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the story of Gavin Williams at the end of the day.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: Truthfully, what do you throw?
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 70 pitches last night.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of thought that they were going to run him back out there for the sixth inning.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: obviously things I don't know working out a okay a spino got it done he by the way he's been awesome in the playoff so far and even subrowski dude like that's another important story like to go out there is like a durable indestructible set up guy and let up runs your first two appearances in the playoffs to then come back out and like keep your head straight kind of the same thing with hunter goddess but back to god i mean he's just ridiculous like there's just something about
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: when you can when he's locating that high fast ball and then you can just throw that like loopy roller coaster curve ball on top of it like that that just messes with your timing so much how do you even dream of hitting that like it's it is video game like i put out a graphic history and all the big play Cleveland socials about Gavin through to play off starts versus Corey clubber through his first two play off starts in 2016 and Gavin savered in a lot of the numbers and that that should tell you everything you need to know.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_04]: It's also got to make the offense feel a lot better when you know that Gavin Williams is going to go out there only give up a couple of runs.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_04]: You can bank on that he's not going to be a guy who's going to explode.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to give you a consistent effort.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to work deep into the game and allow your offense.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_04]: Then to not have to press get your runs get your swings in work the pictures eventually get those runs in it.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_04]: eventually hopefully hit the home run like we saw yesterday that put you over the top so yeah Gavin Williams is a very calming influence at the very top of this rotation and somebody who's just been absolutely critical and like you said the superlatives don't even do them justice right now to be able to do that on the biggest stage at his age is just amazing to me because we haven't seen a light down knock on wood
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: from him and he's just the type of pitcher who exudes confidence when he's out there asked junior cam and arrow what he thinks about him.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, get to the golden sabrero yesterday from him and then of course a combination factor with our other pitchers, but unbelievable effort there by all the pitchers and Gavin's really been the anchor for us for basically all year long him and Parker Messick.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to open the table, so whoever thinks of an answer first, feel free to jump in there.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: Which player deserves the biggest apology from you for something that you might have said earlier this season about them?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: Or if there's nobody that you don't think you can see it on?
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, the receipt.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Jack.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: I can definitely hand out some apologies, geez.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well I'd want to say Travis Besana, but he also hasn't had the greatest playoffs in the world, so I'm not going to go with Travis Besana.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: I remain I remain stoic and correct about all of my tenor bibe ticks.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: I still think he's trash.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'll say you don't know what I'll say.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_04]: He came tonight.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: He may come out.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he may, yeah, he may, he may rear his ugly heads and I'm not, not a bell can guide didn't mean that way, but he's ugly heads and I could come out at some point.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go to Nathaniel low and it's not that, and still I would even say to this moment in time, the stats probably aren't there to back up that he's been a great addition to the guardians, whether it is the regular season or the postseason, but he's coming up with big hits.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's getting on like, I mean, it's such a trope like the Nathaniel low professional hitter, right?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: He'll take good advance, he'll get the sack flies when he needs to, but it's so important to have that in the middle of your line up, right?
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Well, like Chris talked about one missing out on
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: 30 30 guy.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's one thing, but losing out on Josh Nailer from a couple of years ago, and then Manso had what 20 homeruns ADRBI's last year, probably.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: You lose, like, you're not losing, but when you don't have that first baseman slash corner outfielder, who's going to slide into that four hole and hit 25 homeruns, you're kind of screwed.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: And not that Nathaniel Lowe's been knocking the ball out of the park every single game, but getting on base consistently, I mean, his on base percentage has to be way up there.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: So far, then play out, because I think he is five or six walks in addition to his hits, but he, I mean, I would say he's a biggest
- 14:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't have to go with a combination of PD help and then Patrick Bailey and what they're doing offensively and coming up in big spots for both of those guys.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't see that, you know, doing that in the postseason, they're mostly known for their defense out there utility and both of them have been able to show up at times.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_04]: So both of those guys keep doing what you're doing because we need all the bats we can get when you're in there.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Patrick Bailey also I do I would like to personally apologize to friend who also needs to write a very nice handwritten apology To pet Mr.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Petty barrels.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I just I just saw the one 25 batting average and I just I couldn't do it.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know coming off bone it's no big I mean, I mean, now he's patty boss up is there something
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Or am I making this up?
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: Does this Guardian's team almost give off an impression?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I know some people have, but that the majority of this team has been in the moment before and they understand what it takes.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: Because you're talking about, obviously, back to back two back games facing elimination against Chicago White Sox.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: And then you come in in the ALCS right off the bat.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: Game one, put up seven runs.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: I believe it was.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: Does this team look like they've been in this moment before?
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think part of it is when you're seven or eight games out in the division all year, and they were last year too, you start playing playoff baseball in August, or July, shit in this year's case, right?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so I do think that they're used to that, even if you don't have, like if you're PD help, and you, I don't believe he made the wild card round roster last year, but like you did play in that September run, like he even comes in this September, he's comfortable.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's been here in this kind of moment before they all have now.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that,
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: While it may not be all this everyone here has played in the world series, that's not true at the same time.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think these guys know how to play in a big game and like you said, there probably is something to the fact that they had to go play Chicago win three high-stress games with your season on the line.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then turn around and go play Tampa while Tampa was sitting and having a couple beers and they've never been in Jeopardy yet or had that adversity until right now when they're down two to one.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: So now it's time to find out what they do when their backs are against the wall.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: But I think like Steven votes at a thousand times this team's backs are very comfortable against the wall.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_04]: Is there something to the fact that maybe the guardians don't make the moment too big for these guys because it's like hey we're not the Yankees we're not LA where you get plugged in and you're expected to be a part of this magical run right for them or you know that's kind of the expectation here it's just hey we're playing ball we're going to see as how far we can get we're a plucky group and we do that every single year you know.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_04]: you have chased a lot or last year making his debut in the playoffs.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we don't think of it as this huge deal to do something like that even though it is kind of historic.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_04]: So I think they treat the postseason as an extension of what they've been doing like you said jack on their runs in the late regular season because they're essentially playing for their playoff lives earlier on.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_04]: Then what these other teams are where they're playing for seeding or they're playing for hey, this is the right route that we want to get to the world series.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_04]: We're not thinking of that.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_04]: We're thinking of survival from an early age or from an early start of the season.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that really has an effect on the psyche of this team because you get here and it's almost like, hey, this is what we were doing last month.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_04]: This is what we were doing the month before that.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_04]: This is really what we've been doing since July.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_04]: So this to me isn't too big for me.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just going to go out and I'm going to do what I normally do another day at the office.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, I'll start with you, pick somebody other than Jose, you want at the plate with the guardians trip to the world series on the line and I think this goes back to our discussion kind of big picture.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: There were probably maybe at least two three names that popped in your mind that you were kind of pulling through, which I think no, I had one okay, well it's it's chased a lot no debate that's only chased a loter okay that's funny because I was going to say the same thing I was going to say chase but then I think from him if you if you take out the lottery in addition to Jose, I think it's definitely a debate you could have but I think it's got to be the lottery so.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Chris same thing.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I was going to say to a lot of when you when you asked that question, I was like, that's going to be my answer.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_04]: And I still expect him to have a big moment at some point here.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_04]: He hasn't really had that huge moment.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's going to have one, he's it's just brewing for a guy like that.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, if you were really a Rokio stand, you would have said him there, but anyway.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man, I thought the 120 playoff batting ever taken a dump.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_04]: I love Rokeo, but I do wonder, he talked about all the success, man.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_04]: What's happened with Rokeo?
- 19:11[SPEAKER_04]: I was rocked over.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I, Gab Gaudy tweeted this out.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't want to steal it steal the joke, but it was funny.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, he did say like, guard, guard, or rock, rocktober needed to end for guard, tober to start or whatever.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was very funny that, uh, Rokeo is kind of not doing too hot.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I would say though I want to ask you guys this, how far off are you even after the hit yesterday for Rokeo from putting him out in the starting lineup?
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: I would...
- 19:38[SPEAKER_04]: I can't turn my back on him.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_04]: I know that.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's still some moments left of Dorokio too.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's due.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_04]: I'm one of those guys who say he's due.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_04]: He's due and I'll ride with that because I've seen those magical moments out of him and I'm just waiting for the next one to happen and I think he's just kind of pressing that sword.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_04]: That meme where you're digging, you're digging the cave and you're right there up against the gems.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_04]: You see him on the other side and all you have to do is break through and are we going to turn our back on
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: I will say it is actually hilarious how many less pitches per game he sees on everyone else he's just been I you guys know I love Rao Roke and I hate getting on him but how many times there's been a one pitch out we're like dude what are you doing to my problem you're right Chris when the Dodgers got eliminated did you start to think this is our chance or Milwaukee's terrifying as well how big are we allowed to dream here?
- 20:30[SPEAKER_04]: I thought, oh my god, I didn't think it was going to happen like that, you know, I thought L.A. is going to have a kick, you know, it's just like a monster movie right where you're up against the big bad monster and you think you got them dead and they always kick at the end.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_04]: So I was expecting them to kick at the end and then when that series is over, it's like, oh my god.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: Milwaukee's in.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_04]: They're already at the end.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_04]: They're waiting for us.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, yeah.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, my mind goes to my God.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: All the sudden this path potentially becomes a little bit easier.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_04]: Now, not taking anything away from Milwaukee.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not saying you're stepping down a huge amount because I still think Milwaukee's got quite a bit.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_04]: But they're not the big bad LA and it would really set up some fun scenarios too I mean you've got the major league connection there We're in the movie major league obviously we did all of that taping up there Milwaukee County Stadium so you got those connections somebody it mentioned the Edmund Fitzgerald
- 21:27[SPEAKER_04]: has been docked in both of these cities and it's one of the few and everybody in Cleveland loves the Edmund Fitzgerald.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_04]: So that's a big one.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, there's so many connections between the two series were great beer drink and cities on top of it.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_04]: Midwest cities northern cities that just absolutely loved the culture that goes along with baseball.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that would be a fantastic series and it's hard not to think ahead, but man, you can't think fast these rates.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_04]: We've got to
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, you talked about it, uh, kind of in the LCS, you said, maybe there's a little bit of something for this guardians team in their psyche where if they don't have to play a game.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, you're not playing with your socks.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: You think that applies this to absolutely.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, got to get their first as Chris said, but if see you're likely if they do get two more, I mean, I'm going to say that first.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: You got to feel good, right?
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I know they swept the Dodgers, but just not seeing that logo is something.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: And like William Contreras, they have good ball players, obviously like Mrs.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: Ridiculous.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like I only, I cannot wait to see our pets against that guy.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: If we somehow do get out to the world series, but I don't know, like it's chick powers, right?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: How hard, you know?
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let's it's chick powers, just beat them, right?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we still got to win two more games.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: and the next tour in Cleveland.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, what would it mean for Cleveland to clinch in Cleveland versus having to go back to Tampa Bay?
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, the polls.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_04]: Our minds go there already.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_04]: It would be amazing.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_04]: It would be absolutely amazing.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_04]: You know the way this town gets when you have a monochem of success.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_04]: Let alone going back to the world series.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_04]: I remember what it was like in 2016.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_04]: Of course, we had a lot of great things happen in them.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_04]: We had things going on with the calves, obviously winning at all.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_04]: And then you had the guardians going and then you had the
- 23:11[SPEAKER_04]: we all know about.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_04]: So there's always that given take, but you know how magical it is.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you just feel better going to work.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_04]: The people you're at work with, just that you have something in common to talk about.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_04]: I was just on a call with about six other guys.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_04]: right?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we're working on some things at work.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_04]: And at the end of the call, I mentioned something about the Guardians.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_04]: And these guys who don't normally even follow the Guardians, or talking about this magical run.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_04]: So it's those connections you get from everybody.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_04]: When you're out in public, you just feel that.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_04]: And it feels so good.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: And in that moment, in that stadium, it'll never get better.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_04]: Jack, you talked about how good you felt being here today coming in here after yesterday.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_04]: Man, could you imagine after Clinton the World Series with that would feel like
- 23:56[SPEAKER_04]: being in that stadium, being with everybody else after struggling through this entire season.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: We had thought, hey, at times, and there were several times I had already tweeted out the graphic.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you fans and said that we were completely done.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_04]: And here we are on the precipice of a world series.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that would just be an amazing feeling, an amazing feeling for the entire city.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they should, they should grease the poles if that happens.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: It would be, I mean, Chris, I, I had chills just even thinking about it, dude.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: Downtown is going to be crazy if that happens.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: Do you, well, we talked about this.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: Max, low, but I had this conversation two weeks ago.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: I want to ask you guys this.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: So the Vancouver Canox loses the Stanley Cup final in 2011.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: And they burned Vancouver to the ground.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think,
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: there would be any fire in Cleveland, win or lose a championship, Browns or Browns or Guardians, because I think it's a little bit different than calves.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think people care more.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, no, come on.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_04]: There's no, there may be a few things that happen, but everybody, remember when the calves had the victory, you know, we wanted all, and then you had the victory parade, there were so many people nationally, you said, oh, this is dumb Cleveland, they never win anything.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_04]: They won't know how to behave.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_04]: completely great.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_04]: The whole thing turned out great.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_04]: Everything was fine.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_04]: You see these other cities, the big cities, they have all kinds of problems whenever they win anything, but they serve some reason, think, oh, if Cleveland wins something, they're all going to go nuts and burn down the city.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't buy into that for a second.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: I disagree.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm not saying don't come here wrong.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying they're just going to burn the city down.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time,
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: You wouldn't you have to think that it's just different with basketball, right?
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like if the browns winning us, we can't compare All versus baseball.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_04]: Now the browns I would put on a different level, but best.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think baseball would be crazier too.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: Not like 1948 longest drought in sports.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: No doubt, no doubt.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the significance of it is right there.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just talking about where it's placed in the fans' heads.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_04]: I think, gosh, I guess it would be number two behind the browns ahead of the calves.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_04]: But you got that younger folks like you, Jack, that grew up with the calves being good, my kids.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_04]: grew up with the calves being good.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_04]: So the calves would be higher, I think, in their minds.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, with the younger, Jack.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Huh, with the younger John, you're saying the younger people.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_04]: And Youngens.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_04]: Youngens out there.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_04]: Now the old folks, the old heads, man, the guardians, that sits very, very high.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 26:25[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they're higher than I think it is for a lot of the young folks.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_04]: I think, generally, you'll gravitate more towards the calves than what they would the Guardians.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_04]: But, but throw that all out the window.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_04]: Like you said, what 70 years?
- 26:39[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, if this team can punch that ticket, get it done.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_04]: Get a championship.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, all bets are off in the city of Cleveland.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_04]: It'll be crazy.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: Jensen Lewis joined in the show here in just a couple minutes and we'll start talking about the decision to start strong Sean Armstrong a lot of S words, right?
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: Aaron Jensen, we'll ask you guys this before we get into our interview with him, Jack, when you hear that Sean Armstrong is starting tonight where you more so I trust vote or was your more reaction more so yeah, my nerves can't handle this.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, there's a reason that they brought Sean arm.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know the exact contract.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: I believe Sean Armstrong got at least 4 million in free agency from us, which is a lot for a team who doesn't really spend money in free agency.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Cayman didn't have the regular season that everyone imagined for him probably much like how Paul Seawall was the big reliever signing last year, and he was terrible until they cut him.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's a time this year when I truthfully thought he was DFA.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: He was gone for like three months.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: He was injured, but he was somewhere with like Jimmy Hoffa and Tupac and Costa Rica.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then next next thing you know, just Sean Armstrong propels back in.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was in September, like a week left in the season.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then he's back and he's pitching like he was last year when he was on the race.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like Sean Armstrong.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: Last year like, oh, look up his stats.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: He was ridiculous.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think his whip was below one is ERA was like for sure below three.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's had moments in his career when he's been great out of the bullpen.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: I totally trust that guy playing his old team.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: Two.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he wants a little bit of get back.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so cool with a Sean Armstrong start because I think you're going to have a Sean Armstrong open.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Probably give you one inning tops, right?
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then you go to Cantillo.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: What's what's buzz from there.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I'm the, I'm the same way I have confidence in him.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_04]: My interest in this is why it's great.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_04]: We're having Jensen come on is what happens after him because I think he can float through one inning and not have a problem.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_04]: And even if he goes in that second inning a little bit, I think that's going to be good.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, Joey can't tell us.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_04]: Let's see what we get out of him.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_04]: Do we see Tanner, Bobby, do we see Slade Sikoni?
- 28:29[SPEAKER_04]: We'll have to see what ends up happening after that and how.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: Voter is able to juggle things, but as far as a pure starter, I have no problems with this move.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_04]: I have confidence in him.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_04]: I think that that's a good move for us tonight.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen Lewis will be joining us very shortly here at 1230 on the Big Play Cleveland Show.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: So don't go anywhere, but first we got to tell you about our friends over at the third estimate.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: Got a room in your house that's warmer in the summer and colder in the winter.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: Currents that move, even when the windows are shut, it's not haunted, it's just drafty.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: The third estimate will do a free window inspection.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: Show you exactly where outside air is getting in and give you a written price that's good for six months with absolutely no pressure.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Book your free window inspection at the third estimate.com again the third estimate.com or call one, two, three, four windows.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: Again, one, two, three, four windows.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: The third estimate.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: Spawn off the list and big enough to deliver.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_02]: By God, that's Jensen Lewis's music.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: We are back here on the Big Play Cleveland show, brought to you by Pizza 216.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen, the Guardians lead two to one in the ALCS.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: Two wins away from a World Series sale-avvy.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, hey, to think about where we were in June and July and looking at this club and now we look at just a couple of wins away from the fall classic, I don't think any of us, if you put us on a lie detector test would have passed and said, oh yeah.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we'll be there.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_03]: But we'll be in the driver's seat in the ALCS, but that's why they play the games, as they say.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: So good news, guys, moving day yesterday, teams that are tied best of seven game three winners in those series have gone on to win the series, almost 70% of the time.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_03]: So I think you kind of saw Steven vote really sell out
- 30:10[SPEAKER_03]: In many respects to make sure that they got that lead in that fifth inning from PD Halpin across the finish line by deploying all the big time leverage arms there.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_03]: So all's well it ends well played at six o'clock played at one o'clock.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, but you guys I didn't get a drop of water on my car and the whole way home.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: do in the post game show on L. We know we're great.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: So hey, if we had a loss that game maybe a little bit different thinking about the crowd, but I don't know about you guys.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_03]: They showed up, but they were loud and proud.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was a great site to see always incredible.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, Jensen.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_04]: I just got an email at 12 11 today.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_04]: World Series tickets on sale now from the Guardians.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure many other people out there in the Cleveland area all got that.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_04]: So you can get on there.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_04]: Get your world series tickets before we do.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_04]: We got a lot of work to do.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: Needless to say, got a game tonight, possibly.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_04]: Have you heard anything about the weather?
- 31:06[SPEAKER_04]: What might happen with this game?
- 31:07[SPEAKER_04]: What do you expect to happen for the Guardians and Tampa Bay tonight in Cleveland?
- 31:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, if you asked me Chris yesterday when I was at the ballpark talking with many officials and people that are plugged in, it wasn't a matter of if it was a matter of when they may postpone this game tonight into tomorrow, but, you know, you need Jack, all of us that have lived here, we know just wait 24 hours of weather will change and at least as of right now as we talk today.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_03]: they are probably a little bit more optimistic that we might be able to get this thing underway a little bit after eight o'clock.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_03]: Now I know there are some cells that are supposed to work their way through later on tonight.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a better than 50-50 chance if those kind of hover we may have some delays, which I think is a little more beneficial for Cleveland
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: getting Sean Armstrong out there to start instead of your traditional starter of whether it be a Tanner Bibi, Joey Cantillo, wherever they were game planning yesterday, I think this is smart, you have a reliever who's used to it, hurry up, get ready if they've got to stop play in the second or third inning, you haven't burned a starting pitching arm that you were lying on for length.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_03]: but make no mistake.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_03]: I would say the Tampa more more so than Cleveland wants to play this game tonight because their pitching is actually in really good shape.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_03]: If you give Cleveland the off day today, that allows you one whole more 24 hour period and change for Kate Smith, a hundred gattice and Eric's Nebraska to rest up and then you would imagine it's back to a foster Griffin with the extra day.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: So kind of intrigued, but I'll tell you right now.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_03]: Having watched it yesterday, having been there and now seeing where we are today, I think we at least get this game started tonight.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_03]: If we have to stop in the middle of it, that wouldn't shock me, but I think they're more bullish that we're going to get underway to a little after you to clock tonight.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, Jens and Sean Armstrong throughout his career, not exactly a stranger to starting a game.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's happened 18 times before throughout his very well.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, 12 years.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: How about, you got the service time and everything, the pension?
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, good for Sean Armstrong.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: But regardless though, Jens, I mean, this year, I believe it only happened.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, zero time.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: See, he's not open once this year for a Cleveland.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: When it hasn't happened in a while, how does this change your reliever's mindset as a reliever?
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like if that was you in the situation, like, what do you think about right now?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, nothing Jack, honestly, nothing really changes except I'm going to be able to see the lineup before anyone else does.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_03]: And so that to me is kind of the only caveat as a reliever you're used to being out in the pen and you can kind of tell, hey, this guy looks like he's swinging it well that day, he looks like he's picking it up, maybe this guy's not.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_03]: So that's the only difference is when you're at home and you're the opener,
- 33:54[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you're, you're the first person unwrap the presidency.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: What's inside.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_03]: So, uh, I think if you're Sean Armstrong, the way that the top of the race line of his gone, um, obviously junior common arrows had his struggle so far.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think you really change a game plan too much.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you want to try and keep y'all D.S.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_03]: off the bat, uh, off the bags.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_03]: And in John and then Aronda has, has, has really yet to wake up, uh, here through three games.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_03]: So anxious to see if indeed it is just the big three at the top if he gets through a clean
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we'll even vote right out there to try and collect some more outs.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot predicated to off of what Kevin Cash's lineup is.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: But I, guys, I'd be hard pressed to think that knowing it's a, a righty on the mound, knowing that of Williams, there is a righty yesterday.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_03]: I can't see too many differences for Kevin Cash when we see those lineup later today.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_04]: So what do you expect the guardians to do from a pitching standpoint after Armstrong here tonight?
- 34:50[SPEAKER_04]: Where do you think voter goes?
- 34:52[SPEAKER_04]: How long do you think he keeps him in?
- 34:53[SPEAKER_04]: And how much is that going to change depending upon whether and all the other factors that we're dealing with tonight?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it'll be probably one of two things if it were me, Chris, I would have Joey Kentill already and I think just how he has gone throughout this second half of the season into the postseason and then also knowing that the.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_03]: Tampa Bay has struggled with with left handed pitching and you kind of seen that now with Nebraska particularly.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think that might be a way I would go just to offset and maybe that does force Kevin Cash into some early decisions about does he pinch it earlier than he wants to or not.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: So to me, I would rather go that way.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: Then back up, Sean Armstrong with a Tanner Biber or a right handed arm that would give you bulk innings at that point.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_03]: So I think all of that is too predicated on once we get to around seven o'clock.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: If we know we're on time and knowing where that the infamous window could be as far as how long they think they can play that probably factors into the decision as well.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dip a little bit back to last night as well, Jensen Gavin Williams just ridiculous.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: Third time in a row now in the playoffs, where he's gone out and just don't everything he can to win you a baseball game.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: The guys incredible.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: We, Ryan said earlier, I think the three of us are out of things to say about him.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have anything new to say about?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Gavin Williams, Jensen, because he's crazy.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_03]: So what are we we're at 16 and two thirds now across four appearances he's punched out 33.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, the way he was going yesterday and I realized that they're trying to really balance not only what the workload is up to this point, but with an eye on if we had to get to a game seven we want to make sure that that he's got as much in the tank as possible.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: If, as we're halfway there, can get to the world series, we need him for at least one if not two starts and who knows after that.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a remarkable campaign for the player.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_03]: And guys, I think at the beginning of the year, you know, we look towards the top of this rotation with Bobby and with Williams and what Parker Messick, it kind of showed you and thought, you know, the depth of this rotation is going to be pretty good.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_03]: But to take that massive step forward to become a bona fidease.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_03]: that Gavin Williams has done.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's fear that other teams have when you see his name every fifth day.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_03]: And if you look toward the problems and like, oh, God, we get this guy hits not a fun day for for opposing position players comes the ballpark like not only just trying to to get a hit to put a ball and play.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the amount of swing and miss that he's generated so far guys not only in this postseason, but you think just from August September on on the way through
- 37:38[SPEAKER_04]: Let's go from starter to closer Kate Smith.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_04]: Where do you come out, Jensen, philosophically on?
- 37:44[SPEAKER_04]: Using a guy, a closer like Kate Smith, only in the ninth verses, hey, we've got a tough spot in the eighth.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to bring him out here, or even into the seventh.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_04]: Where would you prefer to be able to put him in if everything were to fall into place?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_03]: I come from the school of Terry Franco to Chris you and I are old enough and I'm sure Jack is now to remember when Terry Franco had changed how bullpens were utilized in postseason play and we'll never forget watching at Fenway Park and Andrew Miller's in in what inning.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_03]: and that was the game.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_03]: That was really the leverage point as to where the game hung in the balance.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I fully endorse being able to bring your stopper in before that traditional ninth inning.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if a lot of clubs though, Chris, are equipped to be able to do that.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: What you have and why that 2016 model worked.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_03]: is that Cody Allen was available and was your traditional closer.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: But Andrew Miller and Cody Allen could be interchanged in the traditional ninth inning safe situation.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: You also had Brian Shaw's, much as people wanted to forget about him in some respects.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: He was critical to be able to bridge to those guys if need be.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_03]: And very similarly, the DNA of this bullpen in 2026,
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: But you also have guys that have had experience there in save situations, it's hard for other clubs who don't have that fallback option because once you push chips to the middle, there are teams that looking like, okay, all right, we're past him now we don't have to worry about the rest of the pen that's not the case when you go about five deep with what Cleveland has to roll out there.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen, going back to O7, you were at a point where the tribe at the time was up to one in the ALCS, two games at home before you'd have to hide out on the road.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: What do you kind of remember about that part of the series?
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like the, I remember you told the story, I think it was maybe Monday or last week about how it was after going up three one.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: You talked to Jacobie, I was Barry, and he was like, I think we're screwed.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: But what do you remember from this part of it, though?
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like the vibes in the clubhouse,
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: I remember, I think, and I'll allude back to that story.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_03]: I told you guys, that was the weird year of the scheduling quirk where there was the off day between game four and game five.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_03]: And the irony of where we're falling as the hours count down here today is we might have an off day between game three and game four.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_03]: And then the schedule, you would believe it's truncated
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: where you lose the off day between game five and a potential game six.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_03]: And you might have to play four straight days in a row.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: It drastically changes the strategy.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_03]: It also changes how you take your recovery, your day-to-day routine.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think we always operated from the, we'll worry about tomorrow, whenever tomorrow comes and figure it out then.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_03]: And that's why I think you saw.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_03]: once the lead was in hand for Steven vote he wasted no time like we have to get today if we play tomorrow great we'll figure it out if we don't play tomorrow great we'll react and we'll get some guys an extra blow or two so kind of bringing together what art mentality was if remember that Boston team
- 41:00[SPEAKER_03]: And they had a really outstanding rotation.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we really were able to put it on some guys that that really pitched well throughout the year.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's the one thing you look at with this Tampa Bay club is the depth of their pitching like you're just not going to bowl over them.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_03]: That's not going to happen.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_03]: and and I think they are as resilient as we are from a standpoint of when they lose they're so good the next day about making adjustments and that's what I would focus on especially going from a day game to a night game guys it's a very drastic change and I hope you were like what are you
- 41:34[SPEAKER_03]: mean, no routine is a lot in baseball and and guys are there are some guys that play differently.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: Take Gavin Williams, right?
- 41:41[SPEAKER_03]: The ERA is so different during a day game versus a night game.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_03]: Can you explain it?
- 41:46[SPEAKER_03]: Not really.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_03]: There's just things that are unexplainable in the game, but when you see teams that are back up against it and Tampa knows, like you win one of these next two days.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_03]: We're going back home.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_03]: We got a chance to get back in front of
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: not to say they're going to sell out for a win tonight.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you want to win every game you play, but I think you'll find a very different animal from where offensively.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think Tampa makes some adjustments today and and watch what they do.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe that first time around the lineup.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you'll see Kevin Cash be a bit more aggressive with his bullpen to try and even the series of two.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen quick follow for you on Gavin Williams when you mentioned him there for a quick second.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: Were you surprised when he got yanked after 70 pitches and five innings last night given how the schedules looking the next couple of days or do you agree with the move because it was the third time through?
- 42:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was more so about the the the mileage that he's had up to this point throughout the regular season.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: What's happened so far in the division series and it's a very difficult balance
- 42:49[SPEAKER_03]: He's at a really efficient pitch count, but then also playing the long game here too, and if they had not had an off day jack on between that game to and game three, I think you might have seen Gavin Williams maybe go back out for one more inning you're trying to balance a guy who has really gone way above his career high in innings to and.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_03]: I know many fans don't think about that in the moment, but that's also part of the conversations, you know, weekend and week out.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: As you get to this end of the season and the regular season, as you get further in the postseason, they're Gavin still a pretty young guy, and when you have that parabolic rise in innings usage,
- 43:28[SPEAKER_03]: It is something front office is to keep a very close eye on.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: I am positive that there were conversations throughout the last couple of weeks between Chris Anthony, Mike Trinoff, Steven vote the entire coaching staff.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: How do we handle it?
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: Let's be prepared if this scenario presents itself.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_03]: Here's how we'd like to operate with it.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm sure that was scripted out well before Gavin took the mountain yesterday.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Jensen, we spent a lot of the season talking about guards ball and we talked about how you get to the playoffs, you're going to have to hit the long ball and guess what?
- 44:01[SPEAKER_04]: The Guardians had been able to do it with games like PD helping him.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Bailey, what do you make of this offense, Jensen?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: uh... you know what the the coaching staff as far as the hitting coaches they they deserve a nice day dinner and whatever their adult average of choices uh... get a case of it for what they've done with Patrick Bailey my god haven't i guys we acquired him i'm never having conversations with you guys early in the year we made that we all scratched our head right and we were like now really that this is the move this is the okay
- 44:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, maybe they know something we don't.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_03]: I, again, it's two-fold coaching staff, probably saw in the Scouting Advanced Scouts, probably saw something like, I think we can, I think we have an answer.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_03]: Let's try it.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_03]: And you have them under team control.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, arguably the best defensive catcher in the game.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_03]: So that was just a bonus point for what was already in tow with Austin Hedges.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: But it also takes a player that's willing to be coachable, that's willing to take the advice and implement it and keep the faith with it.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: This is not an overnight fix.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: This is a four or six-week process to implement it.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_03]: And at the hardest time of the year, guys, middle of the season, you're already really well into your routine, what you do, what your muscle memory is.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_03]: So this is a golf clap all the way around for the staff.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: for the advanced department, the scouting department, and then also the player in what Patrick Bailey has done.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_03]: Make no mistake, guys.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there's some consequential home runs this year.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_03]: If Patrick Bailey does it tie that game in game one against your Rasmussen, I don't know if we're sitting here up to the one.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_03]: Because you're looking at the back end of that raised bullpen that have been pretty lights out to that point.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_03]: And again, I still, if I'm Kevin Cash, I still would have run Rasmussen out there.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_03]: The Guardians had given me no moment of pause that they could get to him and really put up some tough innings to that point.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_03]: So that's as big a home run as, you know, big PD half and of the guy we all expected, right?
- 46:04[SPEAKER_03]: And then the sweet down the right field line yesterday.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_03]: And when he hit it, I turned to my, my buddy on Elmina, we're great.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_03]: Oh Kevin France, and I just started going like this.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my god, he got it.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_03]: He absolutely got it.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_03]: And the pop in that stadium yesterday, one of the year.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: No question about it.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen, as always, the last question for you can never be about the sport of baseball.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen, every single time you walk into a room, would you rather the room magically becomes 90 degrees or 40 degrees?
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know what, I probably would rather it be cooler.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I run hot anyway.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_03]: My better half Michelle is a freeze baby like no one's business.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure that's not uncommon for the females out there, but yeah, I'd rather bundle it up.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the heat's fine, but I think I'll throw the jacket on and be good to go.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely perfect.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: Jensen, thank you so much for joining us two wins away, baby.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we'll see.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, figures cross, we get it in tonight and then speaking of a freezing deer gun 40 degrees tomorrow for first pitch, it's nothing like baseball in October here in Northeast Ohio.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: AFC North football, baby, you cannot beat it.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: Don't go anywhere we're going to talk about the AFC North Brownies next to actually have about that excellent transition Ryan.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, first we got to tell you about our friends over at Pizza 2-1-6.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Westiders get ready.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: Pizza 2-1-6 has a new location opening in A-Von.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: And for your next card's game, because boy, do we have a couple more of those?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Head on down to 401 Euclidav.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: They've got plenty of CVs, a great bar scene, and over 20 draft beers.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, the menu that goes way beyond pizza.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: Bring your crew, grab some food, and cheer on the guards together.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: Pizza 2-1-6, your downtown game day spot with a new location coming to A-Von.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: Check them out at pizza-2-1-6.com.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back live to the Big Play Cleveland shows is Jack O'Rourke alongside Chris reflog McNeill and Ryan Tyler killing it on the sticks.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_01]: One team that wasn't killing the last weekend was our Cleveland Browns dropping it on the road to the Jets 17 to 12.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: Chris, I'm going to start with you and then go to Ryan.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: One bad Sunday or are the real Browns starting to come out.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's a combination of both to be honest with you because the Browns didn't do anything against the jets that we haven't seen before other than they were just lucky enough to win in the past you know we're winning games at the margin this one we lost at the margin so we're essentially the same team there wasn't anything there that completely shocked me
- 48:29[SPEAKER_04]: to Sean Watson played a little bit worse, the offensive line played worse, you know, everybody had kind of a bad day together, but it wasn't a big departure after over what we had seen up to that point from the Cleveland Brown.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll see what they come back with against the Ravens, but it could be, you know, I don't expect them to do something drastically different.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, there were browns like things in that loss.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: The loss itself was very, very, very
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: The dropped pass is from Isaiah Bond, that was very Browns.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like, but I think if anything to be positive, I think six penalties, like that was cleaned up for the most part, I probably subscribe to, I don't think the Sean Watson is bad as most people are kind of making them out to be.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna subscribe right now, it's one bad loss.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: You have a test against the Ravens at home, which you're a heavy underdog at home.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's what five and a half points, which is not to pull from.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_04]: Is it a five and a half?
- 49:23[SPEAKER_04]: I think it started like three and a half.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that would signal Lamar's playing, but here's the best part about the National Football League Jack.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_02]: They're gonna get an opportunity to kind of seal their fate Whether they are the same old Browns team or was just one bad Sunday when they play the Ravens this week.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: All right, everyone One to ten Panic meter one is no panic at all the Browns are three and two the guards are up to one in the ALCS Cleveland's awesome down to the Mitchell Rocks Ten is the Browns song.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, geez, so this is like a Cleveland sports.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, just just I was saying
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: So what do we exactly cage in that?
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: The Browns.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: Where's your panic meter?
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: Zero because again, what's I didn't have an expectation for them to make the playoffs.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: I guess if you're asking my new expectation was had they gone to foreign one then Yes, I would have been like okay playoffs at this point isn't just you know a fun story anymore I don't care what your personnel is what your rosters your foreign one playoff should be our expectation And maybe I'm sure that's the way the browser's still thinking what Todd Duncan's viewing it best, but my expectation this year was only two
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: See, young players develop, figure out if Denzel Boston and Casey Concepts Yon make us have a legit NFL room, and I think that maybe not answered yet, but it certainly looks to be trending that way.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_02]: So panic and the Browns this year were just never going to be two words that I use to the other if that makes sense.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_04]: Chris.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_04]: I completely agree with Ryan there.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_04]: I think he came in with no expectations.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_04]: In fact, the expectation was the tank, right?
- 50:52[SPEAKER_04]: We thought we're going to tank for a quarter back.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_04]: So we weren't going to be competitive.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_04]: I had an awful lot of people in my mentions asking if my parade permits were good.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_04]: So
- 51:00[SPEAKER_04]: There were, he's the handful of people who didn't think they were going to win a game this year.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_04]: And I'll tell you what, nobody had much respect for us.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_04]: We were supposed to have what five wins on the season, right?
- 51:10[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's what we came into the season with.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_04]: So it's not like the expectations were high for this team.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_04]: And I think there was a little bit of fool's gold and what we had done early.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_04]: But having said all that, guys.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_04]: This is a young team that's very talented and just like the Guardians, if you get a little belief, you get a little bit of luck, you get a little bit of forward momentum, started up once again after that ugly, ugly jet game, anything can happen, especially in the NFL that's designed for everybody to go basically 500.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_04]: This team could overachieve and they have some of the underpinnings to be able to do it, but it's going to be difficult in the division against
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: When you guys look forward to this Sunday, one storyline that I don't think has been talked about a lot this week, and I think that also probably is part in fact because the Guardians are in the ALCS right now is Todd Munkin, I guess the game is in Cleveland, so it's on a homecoming two Baltimore, but his first matchup with the Zoltz, where he was just the offensive coordinator after leaving Georgia.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: Do you guys think that it plays in it all for a player's coach or guy like Todd Monk and who clearly the guys want to take bullets for, that he gets his first chance to go prove his old team, not not wrong because he wants to become a head coach, but get his back on them.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: They could have made him head coach if they wanted to.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's that's yeah.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: If they what they really thought Todd Munkin was the future and he was the guy to turn the franchise around.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_02]: Now I understand why they didn't.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: You wanted to go in a young direction.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_02]: You needed to fix your defense especially in the fourth quarter and we'll see if mentor can do that.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean it looks good outside of the fourth quarter still a little bit worry some.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's absolutely got to feel personal.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_02]: You're talking about, well, maybe it'd be more personal if it was against a team where he didn't have where he left on a bad note.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't really leave on a bad note.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's it, because Harbal left, it usually, it was either who's gonna go to the Browns or who's gonna follow Harbal to New York, one of the others.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_02]: So it's definitely got to be personal or Todd Monkin, but maybe not to the point where we need to make it this giant story.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's a little nuance there.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_04]: I think.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you've got like the Baker Mayfield type of revenge stories where it's really like the spite stuff where he goes back and he wants to beat people.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's more for Todd Monk and like an old man pride, right?
- 53:21[SPEAKER_04]: Like old school, old man pride, you know that he is a big time competitor.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_04]: and he's old school in that way.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, he was overlooked.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_04]: They didn't want him as the head coach.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_04]: He knows that.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_04]: So, he wants to go back and he wants to beat them.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm sure there's a little bit of extra juice on it.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_04]: But I also think that he's not going to do anything really stupid, really over the top.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_04]: other than, you know, maybe he just dots a few more eyes, crosses a few more teas and practice.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_04]: Let's as players know that this one means a little bit more to him and goes out and rolls with it on Sunday.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's got that type of pride where that's going to drive him and he does want to beat the ravens a little bit more than some of the other tea.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: Do eat prediction, yes or no, over under half of a trick play.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: by the browns.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, right.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can see him pulling something out, right?
- 54:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like some fake punch, shit or something.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm not about that.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking flee flicker.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we haven't turned in good Browns flee.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think I think I think when RG three through that terrible pick, whatever that was like a decade ago, I think the flee flicker was just the history.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: It will that also, but I think it just banned the Browns from ever doing a flee flicker again.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: After that, they were like, that was so bad.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe they bring it back.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: New era.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I always love good narratives.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_04]: Could you imagine if there was like a story where there's a play that he wanted to run when he was in Baltimore and they're like, no, that wouldn't work.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_04]: That wouldn't work.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_04]: He pulls that out to win the game.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's the type of movie stuff you'd love to see it.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_04]: You'd think about it in your mind, but I don't know.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_04]: I could see him definitely put in a little extra juice on this one.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe the offense has got a couple more wrinkles than what it normally does.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_04]: And he really goes for the jugular.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_04]: If he gets an opportunity here against the Ravens.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_04]: Like I said, he's old school.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_04]: He knows that he wants to beat those guys.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_04]: They didn't want him.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_04]: He knows that down in his core.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_04]: So he's going to get a little bit extra to make sure that happened.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: I will say, too, like, I think it is kind of important to that you make a statement.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_02]: If you win this game against the Ravens, because they just kind of got rid of John Harball, like a felt good to beat the Steelers when they had a fresh start with Mike McCarthy.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's like we're starting off an air on the right foot.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: We did it for Pittsburgh.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_02]: I want to do it again for the Ravens.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, like a real redemption too.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you really would.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, everybody will forget about that jet's game and say that was an ugly game.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_04]: It's the jets.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_04]: Those are always weird games.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_04]: You were playing there.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_04]: That weather was absolutely horrible.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_04]: Then you come back and all the sudden you burst back on the scene by beating the ravens who were leading the division right now.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_04]: That would be a huge redemption for this entire team.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: looking at this Sunday guys coming off of a brutal weekend last weekend like we talked about who owes the fans a bigger response Todd Monkander to Sean Watson.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, owes the fans boy you're going down a path there.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know about owes the fans.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_04]: I read what they'd tell me Chris.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_04]: I, you know, it's, it's gotta be, it's gotta be, to Sean has got to play better, right?
- 56:18[SPEAKER_04]: I don't put it all on to Sean.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_04]: Our offensive line was crap.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_04]: We talked about Isaiah Bond not being able to catch a ball.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_04]: He had several drops.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_04]: We had several mistakes in there.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_04]: So it's not all on to Sean.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_04]: But ultimately, this is the NFL.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_04]: So it begins and ends with the quarterback.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_04]: We can talk about the coach and the coach is very, very important.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_04]: But ultimately, to Sean is the guy,
- 56:37[SPEAKER_04]: We paid $230 million to he's the guy who's supposed to lead this team and he's the guy who started off on the right foot this season So we want to see him regain that footing.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_04]: So I think he's the one who's got a lot to show come Sunday against the Ravens
- 56:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would say to Sean Watson too, I think it's a perfect bounce back opportunity.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_02]: You're playing a team who secondary isn't very good.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_02]: Let's call it for what it is.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_02]: We saw it give up 30 plus points to the Cowboys.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: Colts were able to, I think, clips nearly 30 points in that week one.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was win.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_02]: So like there's an opportunity for to Sean Watson to take advantage of some of the Ravens weaknesses.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_02]: And we had Jason Locke and Foreon to talk about the Ravens.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_02]: And he kind of echoed that same sentiment.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 57:18[SPEAKER_02]: If the browns lose, the browns have every opportunity to win this game.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_02]: I know the Ravens are 4 and 1, but that maybe a little bit lucky for it won.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: Now you, every team needs luck, but the Ravens probably aren't as good as their record projects them to be right now.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_02]: So to Sean Watson absolutely can get a bounce back game, and I kind of know where discussions are going to go next in terms of, can to Sean Watson afford another bad game.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: We'll get ahead of it.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_02]: If he plays well against the Ravens,
- 57:41[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, should doorpoint like when they win?
- 57:43[SPEAKER_02]: It should doorpoint again this season, like that question really starts to kind of come to the forefront of my mind.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know because it just depends on how it looks to like if it's a if it's a 17 13 type win, maybe there is a world where should or can play at some point.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's also, I mean, it's just tough because you don't know what to show on too.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_04]: The thing, not a thing with how about with Shidorah hiring an agent this week, is there anything to that that he kind of wants out of Cleveland maybe or I don't think so.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_04]: If it's called a data trade, is there any fire to that smoke from this week with the
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think an athlete just got an agent.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think people are looking way too deep into it.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe I'm wrong and he'll... That's so fine, Jack.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_04]: Come on.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's like a podcast with me.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: People don't have mad, we're talking about it, but it was worth bringing it up because of the timing.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_02]: Everything that just happened with Marvin Harrison, but probably nothing.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's associated with the same label, I think it's little Wayne, actually.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_02]: And like, he has so many interests outside of football.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, in young money.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_02]: It quite literally could have been to make music, so.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: What if that's what it was the whole time and everyone like on the radio is freaking out like oh shit or saying there's one side And then it's just just he he wants to wrap or something that be cool.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, yeah, he already does.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: I forgot about that.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's already got the career going.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be a okay
- 58:58[SPEAKER_01]: For the Browns, what would make you guys come back Monday and say, you know what, I just plain overreact after the Jets game.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_02]: If they run well, yeah, if we run the ball and the penalties are fixed again, even if your defense did it, if like a full of more plays in your defense, puts up a stinker, it's going to suck and people are going to complain and bitch about the defense and maybe rightfully so, but
- 59:20[SPEAKER_02]: If the offense looks good again, you're at home.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have these crazy pre-snap panel leaves reaching double digits.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: You can run the ball with Quint Shine Judd Kins.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_02]: And it'd be nice to have Casey back.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if that's going to happen.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: Just don't drop the ball.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, don't lose the game.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel good.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that was this whole season.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: I said, like, don't actively hurt yourselves and lose games because you're just an autotophilphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphalphal
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not saying for the Ravens game specifically, but where's your guy's confidence level in the Browns one to 10 right now?
- 59:57[SPEAKER_01]: As we're setting here, Friday, October 16.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_04]: Once again, confidence for what?
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_04]: To make the playoffs, confidence is probably about five or so.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_04]: It's probably midway.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_04]: This isn't a team that I anticipated going to the playoffs.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_04]: It's a team that I think is probably right there on the edge of really competing for it.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_04]: And it really would start on Sunday to show if they really are competitive for the Playhouse.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_04]: But I don't have that concern level for the Browns because I really don't have any expectations for them.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's really how smarty this year.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't expect them to really win and make a big push or anything like that.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's the same thing for me.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm not going to panic or say I'm nervous about anything.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_02]: Because if you would have asked me that they're told me they're going to the playoffs, I would have been like, in what world?
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we said I we were here when they did it.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was I had my mind alone that the Sean Watts and even came out after a week two and put a game when he drive against the box and then you did it again.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then he did it again.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like so anything at this point is I guess possible.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, before we get off the brownies here and go or to Santa and me go to talk about the calves.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: I need a score prediction from everyone for the Browns game.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_02]: So come Chris go ahead.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_04]: 14 10 the Browns are going to lose to the Ravens.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be a close one.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to kind of get them into a rock fight and then ultimately some mistakes down the pat down the down the stretch end up doing so we lose 14 to 10.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go the opposite route Chris.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think a full of Marjacks and does play this is going to be a high scoring game.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think the offense is going to try to keep pace.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they quite do.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go Browns lose 24 30.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm gonna go 20 to 10 Ravens.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think Lamar, I really, and I hate saying this because it's gonna be bad, but I feel like we always do okay against Lamar in the past.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think of that game, we were at Ryan two years ago.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_01]: The James game two years ago when J.O.K.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_01]: got hurt.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_01]: There was even though when they lost on, it was a prime time game.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, it was the year Baker was hurt his last year in Cleveland.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, I might have been one of Lamar's MVP years.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: And Lamar threw like four picks.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and just Baker threw five picks for something like that.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_04]: No, I'm going to go 20 to 10 that raven, going to dictate that in this game, Carson Swesinger, whether he's healthy and he's back, Mason Graham.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_04]: If those two are back, healthy, good to go, that's going to change a lot for this game and specifically for Lamar Jackson, what he can do against us, I think.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're talking about the primary dude stop and Derek Henry and the primary dude that needs to stop Lamar if he gets out of the pocket.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going to take a break here on the big plate Cleveland show when we come back Sam and me go to preview the cab season welcome back live here on the bill there.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_01]: He is welcome back live on the big plate Cleveland show Sam and me go senior NBA writer for hoops wire Sam you're a baseball fan too, right?
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I sure am how you feeling about the guards I like it.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_00]: I like it a lot right now last night I thought was big obviously every game's big until you finish the series, but
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_00]: Boy, it's a good feeling.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right, some championship aspirations for this Cleveland Guardian screw, but another team in town, same with championship aspirations this year is, our Cleveland Cavaliers, is it finals or bust?
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, I would think so.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_00]: I really would.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you went out, got James Harden at the trade deadline last year, knowing his age and knowing where he is in his career.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: you know, obviously he's not going to be the star player, but if you have thought of the Mitchell Jared Allen Evan Mowbley who you did not trade this off season and had some opportunities to it seems like.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that, yeah, this is this is the year that they're looking at this
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's really got to be the goal for a team like the Cavs that has been in contention for the last really three years, but serious contention in the last two years.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_04]: A piece that they brought in to finish the deal was Peyton Watson, a guy who I didn't know a whole lot about to be honest with you, watching now in the preseason game seems to have a lot of energy for the fans out there who might not know his game, what's he going to bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers?
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_00]: Well, theoretically, it looks like so far, a lot of athleticism and energy, you know, you went out and got him mostly to help defend the wing position, which really has become the most important position in the NBA today, which is, you know, kind of those six, five to six, nine, shooting guards, small forwards, Jalen Brown types, Jason Tatum types.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_00]: Those are the guys that
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_00]: you want to paint Watson to be able to help slow down.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: So that's, you know, listen, we've been hearing old 3&D.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_00]: Caps need a 3&D guy for a few years.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they're hoping they got in Watson.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's,
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's a possibility, he's a nice young player.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think it might take him a few minutes or weeks or maybe it months to get acclimated to everybody else because we've got four other guys out there who can really score.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's gonna just have to pick his spots and sometimes that takes getting used to offensively.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_00]: But defensively, I think he'll make an impact for them right away.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sam for the casual buffoons out there like myself, we're just going to sit here and say, oh, the calves are going to be regular season darlings, then get to the playoffs and lose in four or five games to achieve that they are just simply an inferior opponent to.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_01]: Why is that not the case this year?
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I can't convince people that.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that if a Mitchell has said this just recently, a practice he said, you know, we we can't talk about it anymore.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_00]: We just have to go out and do it.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_00]: All we could say is yes, you're correct.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_00]: We've lost in the playoffs every single time But the truth is you say that really about every one about one team that wins the championship, right?
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, unless unless you could say it about teams to get to the final.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll 28 other teams every season do not get to the finals
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, Jack Tase your question.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think here at Cleveland, we got a little bit spoiled when LeBron James was on the team, because it's like, oh, the caps are really good in the regular season.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_00]: They're getting into the finals.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_00]: the caps are in the playoffs, they're getting to the finals, which when you had a prime LeBron James was true.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's not usually the case for teams, you know, we've had eight different champions in eight years now.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard, it's hard getting to the finals and winning a championship it really is.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think that what I would say to people, though, Jack, to answer your question is,
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think they have as good of a shot as anybody, and I think listen, another year, sometimes just taking your lumps in the playoffs, which the calves have certainly done.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_00]: This group of calves, sometimes you learn along the way, what gets you over the top.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Jared Allen, Evan Mowley, obviously, down in the Mitchell James Harden, and some of these other guys have learned now.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: what they need to do to get over the top.
- 1:07:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that, you know, I've said this before, it's a lot of F's.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_00]: Jail and Tyson, how's he going to perform, particularly in a playoff, say a mayoral, same thing?
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think you know what you're going to get out of your stars.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_00]: Playoffs have been getting to the finals and winning a championship really comes down to your role players.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Sam, Donovan Mitchell has done a lot this off season to kind of endure himself even more to the fans, whether it be this playoff run right now for the Guardians and being vocal support.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_04]: Do you think all of that is sincere?
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_04]: Because he seems like he really enjoys
- 1:07:54[SPEAKER_04]: being around the fans and being around these teams.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_04]: He threw out the first pitch there at a Guardian's game.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_04]: And he really seems to have fit in very well here.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_04]: And it's funny because nationally we heard for a long time that he's never going to fit in Cleveland and he'll want to get to New York or these bigger markets.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_04]: But he seems to have really found his niche here and seems to really enjoy it.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_04]: Is that what your kind of senses on this?
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's genuine.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_00]: I get a sense from him.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_00]: And you could tell when guys are being genuine about it and he really does seem like that.
- 1:08:28[SPEAKER_00]: I would even say that not to get off the Mitchell, but I would say that about James Harden.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he's at a stage of his career where he's happy to be in this situation, with these teammates and as for Mitchell.
- 1:08:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think that he's listened.
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, right before Kobe Altman traded for Donovan Mitchell, he was going to the mix.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's what everybody thought.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's what was being reported from the jazz.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to the mix and Kobe Altman snuck in there and made that deal with the jazz.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_00]: And since the Donovan has done nothing but some re-sign in Cleveland every year, it's kind of like, well, what's he going to do at the end of the year?
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to sign that extension?
- 1:09:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's embraced the city of Cleveland and the team and the franchise more than LeBron did.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_00]: And LeBron's here from here, I just think you would think that Donovan Mitchell were from Northeast Ohio, I just think, and it's not just the city and the fans.
- 1:09:41[SPEAKER_00]: players really like the fans here because they do go berserk.
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_00]: They'll even put up with a Donovan Mitchell's, you know, all the fans and media who say Donovan Mitchell's not good enough to win a championship or lead a team to a championship.
- 1:09:57[SPEAKER_00]: He just, he doesn't argue.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_00]: He said, I haven't proven that they're wrong.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_00]: So he doesn't get upset.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's just his personality.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he's really, really, truly embraced the city, the fans, and loves it.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he wouldn't keep coming back.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's had opportunities to get out and to even make fans sweat a little.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_00]: And he's done none of that with his contract situations.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, no decisions out of him.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_04]: He's not going up the boys and girls club and doing some kind of promotion with ESPN on all of these contracts that he's signing.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's not his personality.
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's not his way.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_00]: His way is to, I would almost say, don't have been to people, please, and a good way when he's your franchise star.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I think you want to buy a dime of the Mitchell jersey, Sam.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_01]: What's that you make me want to go and buy a John with Mitchell, Jersey.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's been in my favorite, like I said, my favorite player and I've, I always enjoy everybody but he's been my favorite player to cover just because I like who he is in the way he leads.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I was going to ask you about next same because you made a you had a great quote last time you were on about how you you feel that down to Mitchell is the best leader you've been around in your 20 years of covering Caz basketball not not just to keep on the let's look let's rip on LeBron for a half hour I mean that's everyone's favorite game but what about down to Mitchell maybe not a better leader but how does his style of leadership maybe contrast from a type of leader LeBron is slash wise.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think LeBron was you know, don't get me wrong.
- 1:11:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good leader.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little more kind of Michael Jordan like and by that, I mean, he leads by calling people out, you know, Donovan leads by support, which is, if you throw the ball away, throw it to the third row of the stands, Donovan is not going to chastize you.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to say listen, it's okay.
- 1:12:06[SPEAKER_00]: There's another game.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be supportive and build you up.
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_00]: Does there time to where he gets frustrated, sure?
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's gonna happen on the basketball court.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, whereas LeBron probably gonna rip into you, you know what I mean?
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, I just think it's a different leadership style.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Donovan's teammates really like him and listen, LeBron wasn't out really necessarily to be liked as much as respected.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think Donovan's teammates do both, and it's just a different style because you have a guy who, you know, if you're feeling down and out, you probably rather go to Donovan Mitchell.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_00]: and not that that's anything against LeBron, but I just think, and it's not even in comparison to LeBron, it's in comparison to every other star that I've seen.
- 1:13:02[SPEAKER_00]: And there are some good ones, you know, SGA in Oklahoma, cities, a guy like that.
- 1:13:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure, you know, I think stuff is kind of like that.
- 1:13:15[SPEAKER_00]: where the stuff may be a little more keep to himself, but Donovan is a guy who is going to build you up and always have your back if you're as teammate.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's very clear just seeing him in the locker room.
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_00]: Even just as fans watching him on the floor,
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_00]: you know, when Darius Garland had that one big turnover game in the playoffs and kept making turnovers, Donovan put his arm around them and you know, walked them back to the bench.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's the kind of guy, uh, he is.
- 1:13:43[SPEAKER_00]: And there are a few in the league that lead by that better stars.
- 1:13:47[SPEAKER_04]: Let's talk about other teams in the league specifically in the east.
- 1:13:51[SPEAKER_04]: Where do you have the Cleveland Cavaliers as we sit here in the middle of October?
- 1:13:56[SPEAKER_04]: Where do you think they rank
- 1:14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, listen, I think that they're top three.
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, which is probably going to surprise some people, you know, what are the Detroit Pistons going to do, who who finished with the best record last year, they're going to build on that that they get better potentially, you know, they went through some playoff long last year, Toronto Raptors, I think are going to be very confident coming off that good playoff series.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_00]: And now they've got quite Leonard.
- 1:14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you know, I'm purposely
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_00]: uh, thinking you're going to be on the top.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, listen, I ran a story today.
- 1:14:42[SPEAKER_00]: I aggregated a story from the athletic where John Hollinger, who used to work in an MBA program.
- 1:14:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I had the pistons finishing first in the conference and the calves in the raptors tied for second and the six or seventh, you know, so which I could see is a distinct possibility, you know, if Joel and bead can't stay on the floor and be in the way you're starting center.
- 1:15:08[SPEAKER_00]: LeBron James isn't LeBron James, who, once in a while, LeBron will remind you that, wow, he used to be LeBron James.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's not the case most of the time.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I think that maybe we'll learn why the Celtic scave up, Jeele and Brown, I think all these things are possibilities.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, that's a really, really long way of
- 1:15:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be stunned if they didn't finish top three.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be surprised if they won the conference and went in as the number one seed again, but I'd also be stunned if they finished fourth.
- 1:15:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sam last question for you today.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_01]: Kenny Akinson, obviously no, no coaches on the hot seat to start the season.
- 1:15:58[SPEAKER_01]: If things at all went south for the calves this year, do you think that it would be possible to make an in season switch?
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like what where if you gave like a zero to a hundred on Kenny Akinson's job security?
- 1:16:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because a lot of people were saying the word analytically over and over again last May.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_01]: If I remember correctly, where's his job security at right now?
- 1:16:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's 100% secure.
- 1:16:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't think, you know, listen, if you wanted to happen, if you wanted to let him go, you could have probably gotten away with it after, you know, last year's sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals, and, but I mean, it's hard to, I'm glad they didn't.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to justify.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to fire the coach who got us further than any time, you know, without LeBron since the early 90s.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't, I don't see how you can justify firing.
- 1:16:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that the cabs really have his back, he and Kobe.
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_00]: Altman have a pretty good relationship.
- 1:16:56[SPEAKER_00]: The players really like them, which is really guys.
- 1:17:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's all that matters when it comes to NBA coaching.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_00]: If your stars like you and really support you, you're going to keep the job.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_00]: If your stars have a problem with you,
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_00]: Here's looking at you, J.B. Baker's staff.
- 1:17:18[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to keep the job.
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's all that it matters.
- 1:17:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's not boy's got a great system or it's how well are you selling what you're trying to sell to your star players.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_00]: If they turn on you, you're done.
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_00]: If they have your back, they're not going to fire you.
- 1:17:36[SPEAKER_00]: Because then you're going to tick off your star player and a player's league.
- 1:17:40[SPEAKER_00]: So James Harden, obviously Donovan Mitchell,
- 1:17:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jared Allen, I don't know about Evan Mobley because he doesn't say anything, but you're three of those big four really, really like Atkinson, so it's job security galore.
- 1:18:01[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Jack, if things go south and they started, you know, 10 and 12 or something or even worse than that,
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_00]: And you're at the midway point, you're at the 40 game point and you're, you know, you've only one 20 games without injury excuses, then the stars probably say, okay, we get it if you're going to fire the coach, we need a change, but right now they have his back and I think it's he's as safe as anybody else in the NBA, probably including air expulsor down in Miami.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Sam, thank you so much for joining us as always.
- 1:18:40[SPEAKER_01]: We got Cas basketball right around the corner, baby.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you guys so much for having me.
- 1:18:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure I'll talk to you soon.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_00]: I hope.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, should be a cause to begin, Sam.
- 1:18:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not doing that, I'll start setting you some harassing texts.
- 1:18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, we can go get a shot.
- 1:18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully we'll have fun.
- 1:18:59[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 1:18:59[SPEAKER_00]: Talk to you guys later.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Well, talk to you later Sam.
- 1:19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Chris before we get out of here for the weekend.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Don't shoot me.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_01]: I know you're not going to make a brief baseball prediction.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_04]: Correct.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_01]: Can I get one Cleveland sports prediction this weekend?
- 1:19:14[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to be feeling good, come Monday morning.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_04]: I feel a good weekend coming on Jack between the guardians.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_04]: And I think the Brown surprises a little bit.
- 1:19:23[SPEAKER_04]: I know I already made my prediction of the score, but I do that hoping I'm going to be wrong.
- 1:19:29[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm hoping that Monday's going to be glorious when I'm back in here talking to you.
- 1:19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, breaking news, Ravens officially ruled out Lamar Jackson for Sunday's game at Cleveland, due to his ankle injury, according to Adam Schaffter.
- 1:19:41[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, it's not around.
- 1:19:42[SPEAKER_04]: New Brown score predictions will go into existence.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, man.
- 1:19:49[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're out.
- 1:19:50[SPEAKER_01]: I will say shoes.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_01]: So Ryan's out.
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, Ryan's out.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Lamar's out.
- 1:19:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_01]: I got to take the Browns to win now.
- 1:20:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go Browns 21.
- 1:20:04[SPEAKER_04]: 13 score predictions now.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'll change mine.
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_02]: There we have to.
- 1:20:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:20:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go browns when you can't listen like if they're actually that's your question.
- 1:20:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you lose that home, I don't care what he did last week.
- 1:20:15[SPEAKER_02]: If you lose at home to Tyler Huntley, maybe it wasn't one bad Sunday.
- 1:20:18[SPEAKER_04]: Snoop Snoop.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, all right.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_04]: Snoop.
- 1:20:21[SPEAKER_02]: Snoop on the road.
- 1:20:22[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, are you staying with your score?
- 1:20:23[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to say 14 10 Browns now.
- 1:20:24[SPEAKER_04]: I'll jump on the
- 1:20:33[SPEAKER_01]: That we're going to have a great weekend here in Cleveland and we're going to see you here on the big play Cleveland show next Monday at noon from 12 to 130 every single weekday.
