- 0:04Welcome to The Voice of Life, the official podcast
- 0:07of The Church for Life. I'm Pastor David. I'm
- 0:11honored to walk with you in week two of our 12
- 0:14-week journey, Living with Purpose, A God -Centered
- 0:18Life. Last week, we laid the foundation. It was
- 0:24about identity, about worth, and your calling.
- 0:29This week, We build on those rhythms that help
- 0:33you live from that foundation. Today, we're going
- 0:36to talk about establishing spiritual rhythms
- 0:39for the year. Rhythms that will root you, rhythms
- 0:46that will steady you, and rhythms that keep your
- 0:50soul anchored, especially when life goes loud.
- 0:57So wherever you are at home, in your car, on
- 1:01a walk, or setting into a quiet moment, I invite
- 1:05you to breathe deeply, slow your pace, and open
- 1:09your heart. Let's step into this together. Some
- 1:17rhythms are intentional. Some are accidental.
- 1:21Some are healthy, and some are draining. But
- 1:25every life is following a rhythm. The question
- 1:30is, are your rhythms forming you into the person
- 1:35God created you to be? Or are they pulling you
- 1:39away from what you're becoming and who you can
- 1:42become? Spiritual rhythms are not religious cores.
- 1:50They are not boxed to check. They are not burdens
- 1:54to carry. Spiritual rhythms are sacred patterns
- 1:58that keep your soul aligned with God's presence.
- 2:02They help you slow down in a world that never
- 2:05stops. They help you listen in a world full of
- 2:08noise. They help you rest in a world obsessed
- 2:12with productivity. And they help you stay rooted
- 2:16in a world that's constantly shifting. Without
- 2:20rhythms, life becomes reactive sometimes chaotic
- 2:24definitely unanchored but with rhythms life becomes
- 2:30intentional centered and steady rhythms don't
- 2:36make god love you more they help you experience
- 2:40the love he already has for you the first and
- 2:46most important rhythm is a rhythm of presence
- 2:50Presence is the practice of turning your attention
- 2:53toward God throughout the day, not just in a
- 2:57church, not just during prayer time, and not
- 3:01just when you're in a crisis, but in an ordinary
- 3:05moment, the quiet ones, the busy ones, the in
- 3:09-between ones. Presence is a learning to say,
- 3:13God, you are here. Help me be here with you.
- 3:21Presence is not about perfection. It's about
- 3:25an awareness. It's about remembering that God
- 3:29is not far away. He is near. Closer than breath.
- 3:35Closer than thought. Presence turns your day
- 3:39into a conversation instead of a performance.
- 3:44Presence turns your work into worship. Presence
- 3:49turns your commute into communion. And presence
- 3:54turns your home into holy ground. This rhythm
- 3:59is the foundation for every other rhythm. Because
- 4:02everything in your life flows from the presence
- 4:07of God. Did you know that your pace is shaping
- 4:15your soul? Most people live at a pace their soul
- 4:20was never designed to sustain. Too fast, too
- 4:25full, and most often too frantic. And when your
- 4:29pace is unhealthy, your spiritual life becomes
- 4:33very shallow. You pray quickly. You read scripture
- 4:38in a distracted manner. You worship when you're
- 4:43tired. You listen hurried. You rest guilty. But
- 4:50God invites you into a different pace. A pace
- 4:53of grace. A pace that is slower, steadier, more
- 4:58intentional. A pace that makes room for reflection.
- 5:04For listening. For rest. And for joy. Jesus never
- 5:12rushed. He was never frantic. He was never overwhelmed
- 5:17by hurry. He moved with purpose. He walked with
- 5:23intention. He lived with margin. And he invites
- 5:28you to walk with him at his pace. Not the pace
- 5:33of culture, not the pace of pressure, not the
- 5:36pace of fear, but the pace of peace. Surrender
- 5:43is a rhythm. It keeps your heart soft. It's a
- 5:47rhythm that reminds you you don't have to carry
- 5:51everything. You don't have to control everything.
- 5:55And you don't have to fix everything. And sometimes
- 6:00you don't understand everything. Surrender is
- 6:05not giving up. It is giving over. It is placing
- 6:10your life in God's hands again and again. It
- 6:15is saying, Lord, I trust you more than I trust
- 6:20myself. Surrender is not a one -time moment.
- 6:25It is a daily rhythm, a rhythm that frees you,
- 6:29a rhythm that steadies you, a rhythm that opens
- 6:35your heart to God's leading. Prayer is a rhythm,
- 6:46and it's a rhythm that keeps your heart connected
- 6:49to the heart of God. Prayer is not a performance.
- 6:56It's not a speech. It's not a ritual. It's a
- 6:59relationship. I used to always say to one of
- 7:04my favorite pastors, when you give your sermon,
- 7:09I feel like we're in a conversation. And I've
- 7:13found in life that to be true. It is a conversation.
- 7:18It's a connection. Prayer is the place where
- 7:23you bring your whole self before God. Your joy,
- 7:27your fear, your questions, your hopes, your confusion,
- 7:35your gratitude, and your pain. Prayer is where
- 7:41you learn to breathe with God. It is where you
- 7:44learn to slow down enough to be honest. Hopefully
- 7:48most honest with yourself. It is where you learn
- 7:51to let God meet you in the truth of your heart.
- 7:55Prayer is not about saying the right words. It
- 7:58is not about showing up with a real heart. It
- 8:02is not about praying long prayers. It is about
- 8:06praying present prayers. It is not about impressing
- 8:10God. It is about inviting him. Prayer is a rhythm
- 8:17that keeps your soul awake. Here are three simple
- 8:27ways to build prayer rhythm that lasts for you.
- 8:32Start small. Don't try to pray. for an hour a
- 8:37day if you haven't prayed in months start with
- 8:40two minutes then increase it to five then ten
- 8:45let your rhythm grow naturally your anchor prayer
- 8:52to something you already do pray when you wake
- 8:58up pray when you make coffee pray on your commute
- 9:02pray before meeting Pray before you go to bed.
- 9:09An anchoring prayer is an existing habit that
- 9:14makes adding the prayer sustainable. And third,
- 9:20pray honestly. God is not moved by polished words.
- 9:25He is not moved by honest hearts. Pray what you
- 9:29feel. Pray what you fear. Pray what you hope.
- 9:35And pray what you don't understand. Honesty is
- 9:39the doorway to intimacy. And that is what God
- 9:44would expect of you. Scripture is another rhythm
- 9:50that renews your mind. It is a rhythm that replaces
- 9:53lies with truth. It is the rhythm that strengthens
- 9:58your spirit when life feels heavy. Scripture
- 10:02is not just information. It is formation. It
- 10:06shapes you. It guides you. It anchors you. It
- 10:10nourishes you. When you read scripture, you're
- 10:13not just reading words. You are encountering
- 10:17the voice of God. You are letting his truth speak
- 10:21louder than the noise around you. You are letting
- 10:25his wisdom shape your decisions. You are letting
- 10:29his promises steady your heart. You are letting
- 10:33his story rewrite your story. A scripture rhythm
- 10:40does not have to be complicated. It simply needs
- 10:43to be intentional. Here are three ways to build
- 10:46a scripture rhythm that lasts. Read slowly. Don't
- 10:51rush. Don't skim. Don't treat scripture like
- 10:55a checklist. Read it slowly. Let the words breathe.
- 11:01But most importantly, let them sink in. Read
- 11:05repeatedly. Repetition is how truth moves from
- 11:09your mind to your heart. Read the same passage
- 11:13for a week. Let it shape you. Let it speak to
- 11:17you in layers. You always find something new
- 11:22when you read things over and over again. Read
- 11:28expectantly. Open scripture with anticipation.
- 11:33Say, Lord, speak to me today. Expect God to meet
- 11:38you. Expect God to guide you. Expect God to reveal
- 11:43something you need. Because he will. The rhythm
- 11:53of the Sabbath. Sabbath is one of the most powerful.
- 11:59and most neglected spiritual rhythms. Sabbath
- 12:02is not a suggestion. It is not a luxury. It is
- 12:06not a reward for finishing your to -do list.
- 12:11Sabbath is a command. It is a gift, a blessing,
- 12:16but it's a rhythm woven into creation itself.
- 12:21God rested, not because he was tired, but because
- 12:27He was showing us how life works. Sabbath is
- 12:31a rhythm that reminds you you are not a machine.
- 12:35You are not defined by productivity. You are
- 12:39not sustained by effort. You are not valued for
- 12:43what you accomplish. Sabbath teaches you to stop,
- 12:48to breathe, to delight, to trust. Sabbath says,
- 12:57God is God. I am not. And that is good. Sabbath
- 13:05is not doing nothing. It is about doing what
- 13:09restores your soul. Rest, worship, joy, connection,
- 13:17silence, beauty, and presence. Sabbath. is a
- 13:25rhythm that brings your soul back to life. Sabbath
- 13:32does not have to be complicated. It simply needs
- 13:34to be intentional. Here are three ways to practice
- 13:37Sabbath in a sustainable way. Choose a time.
- 13:43Pick a day. Pick a half day. Pick a block of
- 13:48hours. Consistency is more important than duration.
- 13:55Remove what drains you. Turn off notifications.
- 13:59Step away from work. Let go of pressure. Say
- 14:05no to striving. Sabbath is a boundary that protects
- 14:09your soul. And when we say that, we all know
- 14:14we all have cell phones, smartphones, and email,
- 14:18and it ties us up. We need to let go of it. We
- 14:22need to disconnect from it. Just a period of
- 14:24time. But regularly. Add what restores you. Read
- 14:32scripture. Take a walk. Enjoy a meal. Be with
- 14:38people you love. Sit in silence. It's okay to
- 14:44be alone sometimes and compile yourself. Worship
- 14:49slowly. Sabbath is not about rules. It's about
- 14:53restoration. Silence is one of the most transformative
- 15:01spiritual rhythms and one of the most uncomfortable
- 15:04ones. We live in a world filled with noise, external
- 15:08noise, internal noise, digital noise, emotional
- 15:12noise, noise that distracts us, noise that overwhelms
- 15:17us, noise that... just a numbness because we
- 15:21just get so used to it. Silence is a rhythm that
- 15:26cuts through the noise so you can hear God again.
- 15:30Silence is not emptiness. It is openness. Silence
- 15:35is not inactivity. It is attentiveness. Silence
- 15:40is not a withdrawal. It is an invitation. Silence
- 15:46creates space for God to speak to the parts of
- 15:50you that words cannot reach. Stillness is another
- 16:00rhythm that teaches your soul to rest in God.
- 16:07Stillness is not passive. It is powerful. Stillness
- 16:13is the place where anxiety loosens, where fear
- 16:17quiets, where clarity rises, where peace settles.
- 16:23Stillness is the posture of a heart, and that
- 16:27heart that trusts in God. Stillness says, I don't
- 16:33have to rush. I don't have to force. I don't
- 16:38have to strive. God is here. And that's enough.
- 16:43Stillness is where your soul remembers that God
- 16:45is in control. Stillness is where your spirit
- 16:48learns to breathe again. I want to now tie everything
- 17:01together. Presence. Pace. Surrender. Prayer.
- 17:09Scripture. Sabbath. Silence and stillness. These
- 17:15rhythms are not meant to overwhelm you. They
- 17:20are not meant to become a spiritual checklist.
- 17:23They are meant to become a way of life, a way
- 17:26of living with God, a way of walking with God,
- 17:29a way of breathing with God. Spiritual rhythms
- 17:34are not about perfection. They are about connection.
- 17:39They are not about performance. They are about
- 17:42presence. They are not about pressure. They're
- 17:47about peace. When these rhythms begin to weave
- 17:50together in your life, something beautiful happens.
- 17:54Your soul becomes steady. Your mind becomes clear.
- 18:00Your heart becomes soft. Your spirit becomes
- 18:05strong. You begin to live from a place of rest.
- 18:09Instead, of a place of rush you begin to live
- 18:14from a place of trust instead of a place of fear
- 18:17you begin to live from a place of intimacy instead
- 18:23of a place of distance these rhythms are not
- 18:28just practices they are pathways pathways that
- 18:33lead you into the presence of god Let's walk
- 18:39through a simple morning rhythm you can practice
- 18:41this year. A rhythm that takes just a few minutes,
- 18:46but can shape your entire day. First thing is
- 18:53breathe. Breathe for 30 seconds. Sit still. Place
- 19:02your feet on the ground. Take a slow breath in.
- 19:07and a slow breath out. Say quietly, God, I am
- 19:15here with you. Then take a look at scripture
- 19:21for a minute. Choose a verse, just one. Read
- 19:28it slowly. Let it speak to you. Let it settle.
- 19:35Say, Lord, let your word shape me today. And
- 19:44then, the third thing is prayer. Pray honestly.
- 19:51Pray simply. God, lead me today. Give me wisdom.
- 19:57Give me peace. Give me strength. Help me love
- 20:01well. Then surrender. Open your hands. Say, Lord,
- 20:13I give you this day. I trust you with it. And
- 20:21then back to stillness. Sit quietly. Let God's
- 20:26peace rest with you. Let your heart become calm.
- 20:30Let your spirit become aware. This simple rhythm.
- 20:35Can transform your mornings Evenings are a sacred
- 20:44time a time to release a time to reflect a time
- 20:49to reset Here is a simple evening rhythm to close
- 20:55your day with God You had a very wonderful day
- 21:04So reflect on it. Ask yourself, where did I see
- 21:09God today? Look for moments of grace, strengths,
- 21:15kindness, or clarity. Then you need to release
- 21:22it. Lord, I give you everything I carry today.
- 21:27Release the stress. Release the pressure. Release
- 21:32the mistakes. And release the exceptions. Release
- 21:38the expectations. Receive. Say, God, fill me
- 21:49with your peace as I rest. Let his presence settle
- 21:53you like a blanket. Let your soul exhale. Let
- 22:04us close today with a prayer for your year ahead.
- 22:09Heavenly Father, thank you for this sacred time
- 22:12we've shared in week two. Thank you for teaching
- 22:15us the rhythms that keep our souls anchored in
- 22:18your presence. Help us walk in the rhythm of
- 22:22prayer, honest, simple, and daily. Help us walk
- 22:29in the rhythm of scripture, slow. steady, expectant.
- 22:36Help us in the rhythm of Sabbath while we rest,
- 22:41delighting, trusting. Help us walk in the rhythm
- 22:46of silence, listening, opening, receiving. Help
- 22:55us walk in the rhythm of stillness, resting in
- 22:58your peace. Lord, shape our year through these
- 23:02rhythms. Let them steady us. Let them strengthen
- 23:05us. Let them draw us closer to your heart. We
- 23:10give you this year. We give you our rhythms.
- 23:14We give you our lives. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 23:19Thank you for joining us today on Voices of Life.
- 23:22I'm Pastor David, and it's been an honor to walk
- 23:25with you through week two. Next week... We step
- 23:29into something deeply transformative, healing
- 23:33the heart and renewing the mind. Until then,
- 23:38walk slowly, walk intentionally, walk with God,
- 23:43and may his peace go with you. Thank you, and
- 23:52have a good rest of your day.
