A century-old tugboat, the Parthia, built in 1906 and once a workhorse of Olympia’s harbor, has been rescued from the brink after sinking in the Hood River Canal. Thanks to a decade of tireless effort by the South Sound Maritime Heritage Association, it’s now on display near the farmers market—restored, repainted, and ready to educate. While their efforts to save an even older tugboat, the Sandman, fell short, the Parthia’s revival is a major victory for preserving maritime history.
