- 0:10SPEAKER_00: What's up, guys?
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Surviving Ish Politics Edition.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Y'all, I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: I'm looking rough.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling rough.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: And I got a couple of things I really want us to talk about that I've been trying to really dive into and think about and process and figure out how I want to talk about it.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And I'm not gonna lie, I may have a drink or two while we're having this conversation because god damn it.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So of course I'm always a little bit behind on current news because I'm always trying to like not only read the headlines, but dig a little deeper because we don't know who to trust anymore, right?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We know certain people who not to trust, but I still struggle on certain resources, right?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: So I want to do the best I can to come up with the best of resources to educate myself and hopefully share it with you all and have a conversation.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: So if within the past week, if you all have opened your phone, saw headlines, we're now being told that Donald Trump is going to hand us a$5,000 check.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: If you believe this, I need you to step away from your screen, take a deep breath, and I want us to discuss a long overdue reality check.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Because if you actually believe that$5,000 is going to hit your bank account, I need you to say for this entire episode, we've got a lot to discuss.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So, okay, so I have articles I want to pull up here.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Let's start with a report from the PBS News Hour from September 10th.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Trump was speaking to the Republican midterm conventions in Dallas.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So it says, quote, if the Republicans win, you win with us, you get$5,000.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So this is what Trump told the crowd.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And I guess he called it a Trump dividend.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So let's read this again.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get$5,000.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Where I come from, when someone says, vote for my team and I will personally write you a check for$5,000.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: We don't call that a dividend.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: We don't call that populist economics.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It's called a bribe.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure that is literal vote buying.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So the Democratic National Committee chair, Ken Martin, called it out immediately.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: According to The Guardian, Martin said Republicans are basically holding a quote unquote bizarre dog and pony show just to placate the president's fragile ego.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Where's the lie?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: The most hilarious part of this, the exact same political party that spent four years screaming that forgiving student loans was unconstitutional vote buying is now standing on stage, clapping like trained SEALs while their leader promises to print a trillion dollars to buy votes directly at the ballot box.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: All right, so pull out your calculators.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Let's do some basic arithmetic that apparently nobody in the White House bothered to do.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Surprise.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: So the Associated Press just ran the numbers.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: The U.S.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Census Bureau estimates that there are roughly 245 million adult U.S.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: citizens, given every single one of them$5,000 would cost$1.2 trillion.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so where is this$1.2 trillion going to come from?
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So Trump claims it's a dividend for the country's tremendous economic success, saying the U.S.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: is making so much money.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Bullshit.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: We are$40 trillion in debt.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: We're not making so much money.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Listen to what Mark Goldwyn said.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And Mark Goldwyn, he's the senior policy director at the Committee for Responsible Federal Budget.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Listen to what he told the Associated Press.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: He said, Nah, quote, the idea that we've had fiscal success is backwards and bordering on laughable.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: We don't have surplus to give away.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: So Maya McGuinness, the president of the same committee, told the Washington Examiner, she said, quote, the reality is that the more goodies politicians promise, the more ordinary Americans will pay the price of the grocery stores on their mortgage statements or in the burden they leave on their children, unquote.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: So let's translate this.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Pumping$1.2 trillion into the economy for a fake dividend check will just blast inflation right back through the roof.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: It's an economic shell game.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: And the fact that his own team knows that this math is impossible, but what do they do?
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: They immediately start walking it back.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: According to PBS, Vice President JD Vance had to go on Fox News right after the speech to try to shrink the promise.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Vance suddenly claimed the money would only be for the quote unquote middle American class, the American workers.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Let's be honest here.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: So which is it?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Is it every adult citizen?
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Or are they already making up arbitrary rules so they don't actually have to pay you?
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So let's look at the pattern.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: This isn't the first time he's dangled a phantom check in front of us.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Remember in early 2025 when Elon Musk and Trump endorsed giving out a$5,000 Doge dividend check?
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: They claimed Doge would save$2 trillion in waste and give it back to you.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: They would give it back to us.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: But what happened?
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: A government watchdog report came out in August of 2026 showing that Doge savings estimates were either totally incorrect or completely lacked supporting evidence.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: The check vanished.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: No one's seen it.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Hadn't hit my account.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And I'm willing to bet you it didn't hit your account either.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: You didn't get that Doge check.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: You didn't get that tariff check.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: And you were not getting the$5,000 Trump dividend.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: All right, but to me, here's the most terrifying part.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: While Donald Trump is waiving this$5,000 fake check in our face to buy votes for midterms, his administration is quietly putting the finishing touches on a brand new policy innovation behind closed doors.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: They're calling this the Family Assistance Plan.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: They're claiming it's going to give up to$9,000 a year to households where the mother stays home.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Sounds like they're trying to help families, doesn't it?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Not to non-maggate heirs.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Wait until you hear where that$9,000 is actually coming from.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Who is explicitly banned from receiving it?
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: And how it's secretly designed to destroy federal funding for working single mothers and low-income families who need daycare just to survive.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: So we're covering the entire policy scam in part two.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And I want to talk about the documents that I think proves what I'm stating here.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: I'm tired of the phantom checks.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you are too.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I want the raw and filtered truth about these policies and what they actually do to working people.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: So if you wouldn't mind, hit the follow button, share the episode, leave a review, good or bad, drop your comments, and tell me, are you still waiting on that doge check?
