Latest / Foul Territory / Jim Bowden's Division by Division Trade Deadline Buyers and Sellers
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Trade season, Jim Bowden's pumping out articles in the Athletics
- 0:12Speaker 1: to make sure you check those out. He's got something
- 0:14Speaker 1: for your team somewhere, Okay, including his latest articles. So
- 0:18Speaker 1: let's hit some divisions here. Let's start with the National
- 0:20Speaker 1: League West. Where are we at, JB give us a
- 0:22Speaker 1: few of the buy sell or in between moments here.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yeah, So the Los Angeles Dodgers, first of all, have
- 0:28Speaker 2: just been very consistent, which is their entire plan was
- 0:32Speaker 2: to build a world championship club in the offseason so
- 0:35Speaker 2: when they got the trade deadline, they wouldn't have to
- 0:37Speaker 2: overpay for a need. So their whole goal was, We're
- 0:40Speaker 2: going to build enough depth that when we have injuries,
- 0:42Speaker 2: we're gonna win anyway. If Will Smith goes down, we've
- 0:45Speaker 2: got Dalton rushing. If two starting pitchers go down, we
- 0:48Speaker 2: have Justin Robleski and Emmachian and so you know that's
- 0:52Speaker 2: where the Dodgers stand. And so they've been very clear
- 0:54Speaker 2: with everybody they're going to get Edwin Diaz backed, to
- 0:57Speaker 2: add another power arm in the back of the bullpen,
- 0:59Speaker 2: eventually get Blake Snell back, Tyler Glass now back, So
- 1:03Speaker 2: you know, the Dodgers keep telling everyone that you know,
- 1:06Speaker 2: they're not expected to be players here at all, and
- 1:09Speaker 2: they're They've told people, they've tried to separate themselves. If
- 1:13Speaker 2: Trek Scooble has been traded, I don't buy it, just
- 1:15Speaker 2: because they have so much depth in starting pitching and
- 1:20Speaker 2: minor league outfielders that they can yawn and get Schooble.
- 1:24Speaker 2: They can outbid people for schoobl with players that really
- 1:28Speaker 2: don't even fit on their future twenty six man rosters.
- 1:31Speaker 2: That's why I don't think they can be ignored. Look,
- 1:34Speaker 2: the Padres are kind of in an interesting position. I
- 1:37Speaker 2: kind of love this because Aj Preller is in that
- 1:40Speaker 2: spot where in between being a buyer and a seller,
- 1:44Speaker 2: doesn't have a lot to buy. He does have some
- 1:47Speaker 2: minor league arms, he does have Ethan Sallas down there,
- 1:50Speaker 2: but really isn't loaded like he once was. And so
- 1:53Speaker 2: that's where you know, the talk started of oh, maybe
- 1:57Speaker 2: it's time to move Mason, Miller and Tournam into four
- 1:59Speaker 2: players and try to plug some holes not just for
- 2:02Speaker 2: this year but for future years. And so you know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: AJ's so intriguing because throughout his career he's never been
- 2:09Speaker 2: able to never been afraid to trade the best prospects.
- 2:11Speaker 2: James Woods, cj Abrams, et cetera. Never been afraid to
- 2:14Speaker 2: trade the veteran players as well at the right time
- 2:18Speaker 2: his star players. So I find him to be the
- 2:21Speaker 2: most intriguing. You know, Arizona's barely staying alive here. I
- 2:25Speaker 2: expect them to do their normal go get a bullpen arm,
- 2:29Speaker 2: maybe get a left handed power bat, but you know,
- 2:32Speaker 2: not much. And then you got the Giants and Rockies.
- 2:34Speaker 2: They're going to try to sell what they have.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Wow, okay, all right, I mean the Giants of the
- 2:41Speaker 3: Rugs after sell, I'm sorry. They they need to try
- 2:43Speaker 3: to figure it out one way or the other. And
- 2:45Speaker 3: Buster Posey doesn't have a lot of things. Jim, Let's
- 2:47Speaker 3: go to the NL East since we just pounded the NLS.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Let's go to the nlast because there's there's there's a
- 2:52Speaker 3: race shaping up in the NLES. After the Braves jumped
- 2:55Speaker 3: out to such a big lead, the Phillies and the
- 2:56Speaker 3: Marlins are right on their heels. So how many teams
- 2:59Speaker 3: will buy and how many team besides the Mets.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, it's a really fun race. I've
- 3:05Speaker 2: been told by everyone except the Mets. At they're buyers,
- 3:08Speaker 2: So that's the answer to that, at least as of today.
- 3:11Speaker 2: A lot's going to change between now and August third.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Everything is fluid, as you guys know, but we all
- 3:16Speaker 2: know that the Phillies would like to get a right
- 3:18Speaker 2: handed bat. They would like to get another back of
- 3:20Speaker 2: the rotation type of starter. Atlanta's looking for a starting
- 3:24Speaker 2: pitcher that can pitch Game two of a playoff game,
- 3:26Speaker 2: so they're trying to go probably bigger than the other
- 3:29Speaker 2: teams in the division. The Miami Marlins are looking for
- 3:32Speaker 2: quote unquote offense. Peter Bendix is out there trying to
- 3:35Speaker 2: be aggressive to do that. He's got a loaded farm
- 3:38Speaker 2: system of which to work from. They really believe in
- 3:41Speaker 2: this team, and I don't blame him. One of the
- 3:43Speaker 2: best records in baseball since June first, they look real
- 3:46Speaker 2: to me. The Nationals are out there trying to get
- 3:48Speaker 2: bullpen help. They know they've got the offense to compete,
- 3:52Speaker 2: so they're going to try to get some more pitching
- 3:54Speaker 2: to try to stay in this thing as long as
- 3:56Speaker 2: they possibly can. And then look, the Mets are going
- 3:59Speaker 2: to sell. I'm sure you guys saw the tremendous interview
- 4:02Speaker 2: that Joel Sherman and John Hayman did with Mets owner
- 4:06Speaker 2: Steve Cohen. But one of the real telling things is
- 4:09Speaker 2: you When Steve Cohen was asked if they're going to sell,
- 4:12Speaker 2: his immediate response was, what are the odds on us
- 4:15Speaker 2: making the playoffs right now?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Now?
- 4:17Speaker 2: John Hayman didn't want to answer that question, so he said, well,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I don't believe in that, because you know, the Mets
- 4:21Speaker 2: were only he only had a five percent chance a
- 4:23Speaker 2: few years back, and they made it to the NLCS,
- 4:25Speaker 2: which was a good argument, but if he had let
- 4:28Speaker 2: Steve Cohen finish, Steve Cohen was going to make the
- 4:30Speaker 2: point of course we're gonna sell. We have no option
- 4:33Speaker 2: but to sell. So for them, you know, they've got
- 4:35Speaker 2: to pray every night that Freddie Peralta can turn it
- 4:37Speaker 2: around and give us four good starts in July, and,
- 4:40Speaker 2: by the way, four good starts in July get them traded.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But they've got a lot of relievers to go. A
- 4:45Speaker 2: Jay Minter is a guy everybody's talking about. Railey another
- 4:49Speaker 2: guy that's out there that's going to be alable. Luke
- 4:51Speaker 2: Weaver is going to be out there. So they got
- 4:53Speaker 2: relievers to sell and if you're the Mets, let's be realistic,
- 4:56Speaker 2: you need to listen on everybody, you know, maybe not
- 5:00Speaker 2: aj Ewing and Carson Binge and Nolan McLain. I mean,
- 5:02Speaker 2: there's a few young players to hold on to. But
- 5:05Speaker 2: David Stearns is under a lot of pressure. And even
- 5:08Speaker 2: though Steve Cohen said, well, he's gonna get the five
- 5:10Speaker 2: years if you listen to the interview again with John
- 5:13Speaker 2: Ayman and Joel Sherman, he kind of backtracked that after
- 5:16Speaker 2: a while, and you know, basically he made it clear
- 5:19Speaker 2: he's going to get this offseason and maybe next year,
- 5:22Speaker 2: but after that his jobs online. It just is he
- 5:25Speaker 2: likes the way he pivots and adapt. But David Stearns
- 5:28Speaker 2: has to turn this thing around, and he's certainly going
- 5:30Speaker 2: to get this trade deadline in the off season to
- 5:32Speaker 2: try to do it. But I'm not sure a year
- 5:34Speaker 2: from now, if they don't turn it around, I'm not
- 5:36Speaker 2: sure he's still gonna have a job with the New
- 5:38Speaker 2: York Mets. So a lot of pressure for him at
- 5:40Speaker 2: this trade deadline.
- 5:42Speaker 5: All right now, we're just gonna jump to the NL Central,
- 5:44Speaker 5: which I think is going to have the most moves
- 5:46Speaker 5: either leaving or coming in of any of the divisions.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I would agree with you on that, although you
- 5:53Speaker 2: know with the Milwaukee Brewers, don't they just have to
- 5:55Speaker 2: call the minor leagues and just promote people? But yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 2: I mean, look, they're out there. We know Matt Arnold
- 6:01Speaker 2: has been executive year two years in a row. He's
- 6:03Speaker 2: out there looking for a pitcher. He's looking for a bat.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That being said, a lot of times, his answers are
- 6:08Speaker 2: right there in his own farm system. They're the team
- 6:11Speaker 2: to beat, as you guys know, and they're a real threat.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Cubs are out there trying to get pitching, starting pitching,
- 6:17Speaker 2: relief pitching. I think Jed Hoyer is going to be aggressive.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think that they match up really well with the
- 6:22Speaker 2: Red Sox. If the Red Sox try to sell, if
- 6:26Speaker 2: in fact Sonny Gray and or role As Chapman are moved,
- 6:28Speaker 2: I think the Cubs will be players there. But I
- 6:31Speaker 2: also think you'll see them in on all the starting
- 6:33Speaker 2: pitchers that are available out there, so I'm expecting them.
- 6:36Speaker 2: The Pittsburgh Pirates tell me run prevention is their goal.
- 6:40Speaker 2: That means bullpen or upgrade defensively is what ben Cherrington
- 6:45Speaker 2: their GM is looking to do. I'm not sure what
- 6:48Speaker 2: the Reds are going to do. I really haven't gotten
- 6:51Speaker 2: a response to them. I know what they should do.
- 6:53Speaker 2: They should sell. I don't think this team is going
- 6:56Speaker 2: to be able to make a run and be an
- 6:58Speaker 2: October team, and I think they'd be or off right now.
- 7:01Speaker 2: There's so many teams looking for a right hand hitter,
- 7:03Speaker 2: you know. I think to maximize the value of Spencer Steeer,
- 7:07Speaker 2: this would be the right time to do that. They've
- 7:10Speaker 2: got a couple of back of the rotation type starters
- 7:12Speaker 2: they can offer. But I do think the Reds maybe
- 7:15Speaker 2: should take advantage of being a seller in this division.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And for the Cardinals, I think they're real. Let's see
- 7:21Speaker 2: if I'm Bloom can go get them some help with
- 7:23Speaker 2: another starting pitcher as well. So it's gonna be a
- 7:25Speaker 2: fun division to watch the rest of the way. But
- 7:27Speaker 2: I agree with you, I think they'll be very active
- 7:29Speaker 2: come August.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Cap I've been looking for the best deals for the
- 7:35Speaker 5: All Star Game tickets in Philly.
- 7:37Speaker 6: Where are you going to get some tickets from? I'm
- 7:40Speaker 6: going straight out to Rife Field. If Harper and Sharber
- 7:42Speaker 6: both joined the home run derby, I want to be
- 7:44Speaker 6: catching the hometown guys hitting them. So I'm going out
- 7:46Speaker 6: to the rife field kind of where I think I
- 7:48Speaker 6: could get the best chance of catching one of those
- 7:49Speaker 6: home runs.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Maybe in the second deck. You can go on the
- 7:52Speaker 5: app and you can look to see what your view
- 7:54Speaker 5: is going to because them boys are going to be
- 7:55Speaker 5: launching them John's and with over thirty five million downloads,
- 7:59Speaker 5: seek heek is the number one rated ticketing app. There's
- 8:02Speaker 5: more than seventy thousand events listed at seakik, including concerts, sports,
- 8:07Speaker 5: festivals and more. And of course I have a code
- 8:10Speaker 5: for y'all. You can use the code Territory ten for
- 8:13Speaker 5: ten percent off your next set of MLB tickets at seakeeek.
- 8:16Speaker 5: That's ten percent off MLB tickets with promo code Territory ten.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Make sure you click the link in the description to
- 8:23Speaker 5: download the app and have the code automatically added to
- 8:26Speaker 5: your account so you could use it later. Thank you
- 8:28Speaker 5: to SeatGeek and we'll see you at the game.
- 8:31Speaker 2: All right, Jim.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Before we go to the American League, the Reds the
- 8:34Speaker 3: resume of the playoffs last year, Jim, what happened? Why
- 8:36Speaker 3: would they sell? They just got Hunter Green back. I mean,
- 8:39Speaker 3: do you see this for a lot of teams. They're
- 8:41Speaker 3: eight games out I think of the wildcard, and they're
- 8:43Speaker 3: not their last place. But that's the one when you
- 8:46Speaker 3: said because going into this year, remember, oh, the Reds
- 8:48Speaker 3: are going to be so good, They're going to be
- 8:49Speaker 3: so much better. And now here we are in July
- 8:52Speaker 3: and or back to the same old Reds.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the same old Reds. And look, they don't
- 8:57Speaker 2: have good enough offense, they're not good enough defensively. They
- 9:00Speaker 2: certainly have the makings of a really good starting rotation
- 9:03Speaker 2: with two number one starters in Chase Burns and Hunter Green.
- 9:06Speaker 2: But I think if you're the Reds, you know, let's
- 9:08Speaker 2: plan on twenty seven. How are we going to turn
- 9:10Speaker 2: this around? I mean, even if you get hot, you're
- 9:13Speaker 2: not a contending team. You're not good enough. You're just not.
- 9:16Speaker 2: But you certainly have a starting rotation to build upon.
- 9:20Speaker 2: You've got to get the position players figured out, and
- 9:23Speaker 2: to do that take advantage of this deadline. You know,
- 9:26Speaker 2: there's not a lot of sellers out there, as we
- 9:27Speaker 2: just talked about Mets, Giants, Rockies, Angels. I mean, there's
- 9:31Speaker 2: a handful of Royals, there's a handful as of Now,
- 9:33Speaker 2: that's it. If you're the red you've got a lot
- 9:35Speaker 2: of pieces. So let's try to turn those pieces. Turn
- 9:38Speaker 2: Spencer Steer into three guys. Get a couple of guys
- 9:41Speaker 2: for Brady Singer. Listen on Abbit and Lodolo to see
- 9:45Speaker 2: if somebody wants to overpay for left handed starting pitching.
- 9:49Speaker 2: This is a really good seller's market. And if I'm
- 9:51Speaker 2: the Reds, you know, let's quickly try to pivot and
- 9:54Speaker 2: plan for twenty seven and beyond.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Wow.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Okay, well let's go to al because you have Spencer
- 9:59Speaker 3: Steer going to team in the Al East, right, So
- 10:02Speaker 3: let's hear your Al East breakdown on what these teams need.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Yeah, So the New York Yankees, obviously we all know,
- 10:08Speaker 2: could use some help at catcher, right hand hit her,
- 10:10Speaker 2: maybe to work with Austin Wells. Obviously they'd like to
- 10:14Speaker 2: get a guy like Aveley Ritchman. I don't think that's
- 10:16Speaker 2: gonna happen. They really want to back end reliever to
- 10:20Speaker 2: go with ben Ar, high leverage kind of guy, which
- 10:23Speaker 2: makes sense. I obviously have been a big proponent of
- 10:26Speaker 2: getting a big right handed bat. I think they're too
- 10:29Speaker 2: left handed. I've said that all year. I think that
- 10:31Speaker 2: they get exposed that way, and whether that be third base,
- 10:34Speaker 2: left field, you know, I don't care where that goes,
- 10:37Speaker 2: but I do think another bat for the New York
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yankees is extremely important. I think the Red Sox should sell,
- 10:43Speaker 2: but they're close enough. Craig Brezel's jobs on the line.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I'm not sure he's going to unless he falls back
- 10:49Speaker 2: and he's got to August third to stay in this
- 10:51Speaker 2: wildcard race. He can own the trade deadline if in
- 10:54Speaker 2: fact he sells, because Sonny Gray and a role as
- 10:57Speaker 2: Chapman and Jared Durant is gonna bring a ton I'm
- 11:00Speaker 2: almost feeling the same way with them as I do.
- 11:03Speaker 2: The Reds maybe take advantage of this trade deadline, but
- 11:06Speaker 2: it's kind of complicated just because of Craig Breslow's situation.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I think he feels if he can go get a
- 11:12Speaker 2: bat or two and can maybe get one of those
- 11:15Speaker 2: wild card spots or be in the race in the
- 11:17Speaker 2: last week of the season, perhaps that buys him another year.
- 11:20Speaker 2: The Oriels Michaelias is out there looking for starting pitching.
- 11:23Speaker 2: A lot of people want him to throw the tavel in.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I don't think he's going to same kind of reason
- 11:27Speaker 2: as Breslo. I think he knows that his job's on
- 11:30Speaker 2: the line as well. So I think Michaelias is gonna
- 11:33Speaker 2: continue to chase starting pitching. And whether that be you know,
- 11:36Speaker 2: read Debt Meer's of the Angels or Robbie Ray of
- 11:39Speaker 2: the San Francisco Giants. You know, I think he definitely
- 11:42Speaker 2: could land When then the Toronto Blue Jays, you know,
- 11:44Speaker 2: they need a right hand hitter in the back of
- 11:45Speaker 2: the rotation starter. I obviously first and foremost need to
- 11:49Speaker 2: get healthy. But they're another team that's kind of intriguing,
- 11:53Speaker 2: you know, down the stretch. If they were to fall
- 11:55Speaker 2: further out of it August third, would they consider moving
- 11:59Speaker 2: Lewis Varlin and who's been the Mason Miller of the
- 12:01Speaker 2: American League this year if somebody wants to drastically overpay
- 12:05Speaker 2: and just kind of reboot and try to get back
- 12:07Speaker 2: in twenty seven. So they're a team to watch. I
- 12:09Speaker 2: don't think they'll do that, just because of the parody
- 12:11Speaker 2: right now in the American League. And the fact is,
- 12:14Speaker 2: if Toronto gets in and you've got Dylan Cees and
- 12:17Speaker 2: you Savage is your first two starters, and you have
- 12:19Speaker 2: experience of being in the World Series last year. Who knows,
- 12:22Speaker 2: you could end up running the table anyway. So I
- 12:25Speaker 2: don't think they'll do that, but that's certainly something to watch.
- 12:28Speaker 5: I got a question about the Yankees Wanning Ryan Jefferson.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Obviously we know the Yankees have a certain profile on
- 12:35Speaker 5: offense that Jeffers would hit. Would the Yankees or would
- 12:38Speaker 5: you as a GM go away from the profile that
- 12:42Speaker 5: you love the value of receiving that Austin Wells, Ali Sanchez,
- 12:47Speaker 5: j c Oscara are giving you and they value that
- 12:50Speaker 5: so high, would a team like the Yankees be willing
- 12:53Speaker 5: to go away from that for Jeffers, who's just a
- 12:56Speaker 5: little bit above average receiving wise.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look at you real. I mean that's
- 13:00Speaker 2: what I've been told that it is real that they
- 13:03Speaker 2: have interest in him. That's not just rumors that are
- 13:06Speaker 2: out there. So I would tell you that I would
- 13:08Speaker 2: believe it. Yes, that you know the Yankees in Minnesota twins,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I have talked about it, So because of that, I
- 13:13Speaker 2: would say the answer is yes. Now, I think the
- 13:15Speaker 2: Yankees as usual talk to everybody about everybody. That's what
- 13:18Speaker 2: Brian Cashman's modus OPERENDI has always been. He does his
- 13:21Speaker 2: due diligence talking to all the other twenty nine teams
- 13:24Speaker 2: on a regular basis. But I think when you look
- 13:27Speaker 2: at the lack of production and we watch them break
- 13:30Speaker 2: their record and strikeouts the last two nights against Tampa Bay,
- 13:34Speaker 2: you know, I think they've got to be realistic and
- 13:36Speaker 2: try to find ways to improve the offense. And certainly
- 13:38Speaker 2: they're not getting exactly what they want offensively from the
- 13:41Speaker 2: catcher position.
- 13:44Speaker 3: So it's amazing how all these teams have holes. There's
- 13:47Speaker 3: like no perfect team, I guess, not even the Dodgers.
- 13:49Speaker 3: But let's go to a division near and dear to
- 13:51Speaker 3: my heart, Jim, you just mentioned Ryan Jeffers getting traded.
- 13:54Speaker 3: You have the Twins selling. The Twins continue to say
- 13:57Speaker 3: they're not selling. The Al Central is fast because everyone
- 14:00Speaker 3: is kind other than the Royals is kind of lumped
- 14:02Speaker 3: in there, real close to each other. So what's gonna
- 14:04Speaker 3: happen in the Al Central and why are the White
- 14:06Speaker 3: Socks going to win this division?
- 14:07Speaker 1: Jim?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, So let's let's start with the White Sox. You know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: Chris gets was very clear with me on the award
- 14:12Speaker 2: winning Front Office Show and Serious XM Sunday's ten to one.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I had to promote that really quickly, but Chris was
- 14:18Speaker 2: very clear. He said, look, if we're in the race
- 14:20Speaker 2: after the All Star break, we're going to be buyers,
- 14:22Speaker 2: and they're gonna be buyers for pitching. So you know,
- 14:24Speaker 2: if the Red Sox sell, go get a roll this
- 14:26Speaker 2: Chapman right. I mean, I absolutely love that fit for
- 14:28Speaker 2: the Chicago White Sox. Maybe you make the deal bigger
- 14:31Speaker 2: and get Sunny Gray too. I would love that fit
- 14:33Speaker 2: for Chicago. But the White Socks aren't going anywhere. They're
- 14:36Speaker 2: a really fun team to watch. They they've got a
- 14:39Speaker 2: legitimate chance of winning the division. They're going to get
- 14:41Speaker 2: more to talking Murakami here back soon. That's going to
- 14:43Speaker 2: be huge. Dad. That power to the lineup. I love
- 14:46Speaker 2: the energy every day that lineup brings. Look, I was
- 14:50Speaker 2: a fan when Chris gets got hired. I was in
- 14:52Speaker 2: the minority. Thank goodness. He remembers that. I think this
- 14:55Speaker 2: is the trade deadline where he can make his mark
- 14:57Speaker 2: because he's got a chance. For the Guardians, they got
- 14:59Speaker 2: to get bat We all know that. I don't know
- 15:01Speaker 2: where they're gonna get it, how they're going to get it,
- 15:03Speaker 2: but Hopefully they're going to get Jasira Mairis back off
- 15:05Speaker 2: the IL. They're going to get a Home Martinez off
- 15:07Speaker 2: the IL as well. That's gonna help. But I would
- 15:10Speaker 2: love to see them go get another bat. You know,
- 15:12Speaker 2: it's funny when you look at the Cleveland Chicago race.
- 15:15Speaker 2: They're just opposites, right. Chicago's got the much better offense
- 15:18Speaker 2: top to bottom, Cleveland's got the much better pitching top
- 15:21Speaker 2: to bottom. And then they play each other and they're
- 15:23Speaker 2: all one run games. I mean, I absolutely love that matchup.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a fun race to the end.
- 15:28Speaker 2: To your point with the Twins, Twins get mad at
- 15:29Speaker 2: me every time I put out there that they should
- 15:31Speaker 2: trade Joe Ryan. I stand by that, and I stand
- 15:34Speaker 2: by that for this reason. I don't think the Twins
- 15:37Speaker 2: are going to play on October. That's number one, that's
- 15:39Speaker 2: my judgment. Number two, I don't think they're gonna extend
- 15:42Speaker 2: Joe Ryan. He's a free agent at the end of
- 15:44Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven. So your trade value for Joe Ryan
- 15:48Speaker 2: is never going to be higher than it is right now.
- 15:50Speaker 2: You're not going to get the same return in December
- 15:52Speaker 2: at the winter meetings. That you're gonna get right now,
- 15:55Speaker 2: and with so many teams in need, like the Atlanta Braves,
- 15:58Speaker 2: you've got a chance to go get two stud young
- 16:00Speaker 2: pitchers that you control for six years from Atlanta. And
- 16:03Speaker 2: whether that be can KEMINITTI, whether that be Jr. Richie
- 16:07Speaker 2: did he er for one days? The Braves have the
- 16:10Speaker 2: starters they can give you. You're Minnesota, You're not gonna
- 16:13Speaker 2: extend them, so for a year and a half of Ryan,
- 16:15Speaker 2: You're really gonna hold on to them. It doesn't make
- 16:17Speaker 2: sense to me, But look, I get it. If I'm
- 16:20Speaker 2: Jeremy Zol and I'm the owner and I'm only a
- 16:22Speaker 2: few games back in the wildcard, I don't want to
- 16:24Speaker 2: throw the towel in. I understand that let's revisit this
- 16:28Speaker 2: on August first, second, or third. In the meantime, I
- 16:31Speaker 2: think they should sell. We'll see now. In terms of
- 16:33Speaker 2: the Tigers, Scott Harris, he wants to win. He's gonna
- 16:37Speaker 2: do everything he can to stay in this race. And
- 16:39Speaker 2: again the schooble stuff's gonna go down to the buzzer.
- 16:41Speaker 2: But if they fall back, School's gonna get traded and
- 16:44Speaker 2: he'll be the headliner at the trade deadline, but I
- 16:47Speaker 2: know one thing, they don't want that to be the scenario.
- 16:50Speaker 2: They want to be in it. And for Kansas City,
- 16:52Speaker 2: it's cell time. So whether that's Seth Lugo or Michael
- 16:55Speaker 2: Walker or Lucas Erseeg that's probably the three big names
- 16:59Speaker 2: that pro probably have a chance of getting moved and
- 17:01Speaker 2: they're going to be a very interesting team to watch
- 17:04Speaker 2: going forward. They need a lot of help on the
- 17:05Speaker 2: offensive side of the game, and I think they're going
- 17:07Speaker 2: to concentrate on that.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Hey, for the families out there looking for a different

- 17:26Speaker 1: done the homeschooling thing in the past.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I know you liked it.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I did. I liked it a lot. All my
- 17:31Speaker 4: kids have done it before. It's an opportunity for them
- 17:34Speaker 4: to stay at home and enjoy school just as much.
- 17:38Speaker 4: They learn a lot, and this is an opportunity for
- 17:41Speaker 4: families that are on the go too as well. They
- 17:43Speaker 4: have to understand, listen, can't be at a regular school
- 17:46Speaker 4: at all times. I need my child to be doing this,
- 17:48Speaker 4: whether it's an athletic career, whatever stature they are at.
- 17:52Speaker 4: And we loved every second of it, and I think
- 17:54Speaker 4: it is an easy opportunity for some children.

- 18:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Another division that's bunched up is the Al West. Houston's
- 18:15Speaker 3: gotten it back into this race. The Mariners haven't pulled away,
- 18:18Speaker 3: The A's have kind of we're up top, they've fallen down.
- 18:20Speaker 3: The Rangers are right there. The Angels, obviously, are the
- 18:23Speaker 3: Angels there the rebuilding since twenty ten. Jim as the
- 18:26Speaker 3: Sign so eloquently told us the other day, but what about.
- 18:29Speaker 5: The Al West.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Who's what's the moves?
- 18:31Speaker 4: You see?
- 18:31Speaker 3: They can win this division?
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so Seattle's gonna blow everybody away. I think they've
- 18:36Speaker 2: been very generous to let everybody stay in the race
- 18:38Speaker 2: here on July the eighth. By the time we get
- 18:41Speaker 2: to September fifteenth, it'll be over. They'll already have pop
- 18:44Speaker 2: the champagne because their starting pitching is just too good.
- 18:47Speaker 2: And at some point, you know, Kate Anderson is ready.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I've talked to several scouts are watching him pitch. Some
- 18:54Speaker 2: scouts tell me he's the second best starting pitcher on
- 18:56Speaker 2: the Mariners major league team right now. That's how good
- 18:59Speaker 2: he is. So you're seven deep, and that doesn't even
- 19:02Speaker 2: mention Ryan Sloan. So they're eight starting pitchers deep. Starting
- 19:07Speaker 2: pitching windu in August in September. That's when you separate yourself.
- 19:10Speaker 2: That's when Seattle will separate themselves, in my opinion. We'll
- 19:13Speaker 2: see how that plays out. They're going to have to
- 19:16Speaker 2: make that uncomfortable decision. If they're not able to trade
- 19:19Speaker 2: Luis Castillo for a relief pitcher and a right hand
- 19:22Speaker 2: hitter like they'd like to, they're going to have to
- 19:25Speaker 2: have that difficult conversation with him at some point to
- 19:28Speaker 2: say you're going to pitch out of the bullpen the
- 19:29Speaker 2: rest of the way. But they've got to decide on
- 19:32Speaker 2: their five best starters, and that's who's got to be
- 19:34Speaker 2: there every single day. The starting pitching rotation. The pitchers
- 19:38Speaker 2: have told the Mariners they don't want to go with
- 19:40Speaker 2: a six man rotation. They don't love the piggyback and
- 19:43Speaker 2: so because of that, at some point, Jerry to Poto
- 19:45Speaker 2: and Dan Wilson have to make that final call put
- 19:48Speaker 2: someone in the bullpen. They need to trade for a
- 19:51Speaker 2: high leverage reliever to help Muno's in the back end,
- 19:54Speaker 2: and they also need a right hand hitter that can
- 19:56Speaker 2: mash left handed pitching. I'm expecting Jerry to Poto to
- 19:59Speaker 2: get both. I'm expecting him to be aggressive. Dana Brown
- 20:03Speaker 2: and the Astros are looking for a left hand hitting
- 20:05Speaker 2: outfielder that has been his focus, and like normal, Dana
- 20:08Speaker 2: will also probably trade for a reliever or two because
- 20:11Speaker 2: that's what he does. But that's kind of where they're
- 20:14Speaker 2: trying to do. Thank goodness, there's a change in general
- 20:17Speaker 2: managers with the Angels because Perimnassian wasn't even going to
- 20:21Speaker 2: listen or argue with his owner about the owner not
- 20:24Speaker 2: one in deal Jose Soriano, Debt Meers or Joe Adell.
- 20:28Speaker 2: John mose Loac was brought in by President Molly Jolly.
- 20:32Speaker 2: He has met with Artie Moreno. He's being paid to
- 20:35Speaker 2: try to fix this and assess where they're at. Knowing Moe,
- 20:39Speaker 2: you know he's gonna look at this team and explain
- 20:41Speaker 2: to the owner why you need to turn Debtmers into
- 20:44Speaker 2: three players, Soriano into three players, Adele into three players,
- 20:48Speaker 2: and turn those three guys into nine players to help
- 20:50Speaker 2: build the future so that they could be a fun
- 20:53Speaker 2: seller when it comes and goes. Chris Young, the GM
- 20:56Speaker 2: and president of the Rangers, has made it very clear
- 20:58Speaker 2: to me that he's looking for or offense. Of course,
- 21:01Speaker 2: they're struggling right now with both Wyat Langford and Corey
- 21:03Speaker 2: Seger on the injured list, but even when they come back,
- 21:07Speaker 2: he knows they need another bat. I would expect them
- 21:10Speaker 2: to find a way to get a hitter between now
- 21:12Speaker 2: in August.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Third Tim, great job on all these lists. By the way,
- 21:16Speaker 3: I just want to make sure that we give you
- 21:19Speaker 3: a compliment. And the shameless plug. I love the shameless plug.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I'm here for the shameless plug. Any chance you get
- 21:24Speaker 3: to throw a shameless plug.
- 21:25Speaker 7: In there, I do it for him is athletic, I know,
- 21:27Speaker 7: I know.
- 21:28Speaker 3: So it was awesome. It was very That was very
- 21:30Speaker 3: very well played, by the way, but I did have
- 21:33Speaker 3: one question. You mentioned you said that Mariners don't love
- 21:35Speaker 3: the piggyback. I thought they loved the piggyback. When I
- 21:38Speaker 3: said this on the show, I got absolutely annihilated on
- 21:41Speaker 3: Twitter for saying, oh that this doesn't work and all
- 21:44Speaker 3: the pitchers are happy with this, and they all wanted
- 21:47Speaker 3: to give up their start so Luis Castillo could get
- 21:50Speaker 3: some any like are you kidding me? Let's be real here.
- 21:52Speaker 3: You've been in a clubhouse.
- 21:53Speaker 2: You know it goes. Yeah, I do not it goes,
- 21:56Speaker 2: and look I understand it, and look I talked to
- 21:58Speaker 2: Jerry Depoto about it, and I understand his position with
- 22:02Speaker 2: Luis Castillo because of how long he's been in the
- 22:05Speaker 2: big leagues. He's been an all star pitcher, he's had
- 22:07Speaker 2: the long track record, et cetera, et cetera. And you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: they wanted to try to find a way to not
- 22:15Speaker 2: upset one of the six. But unfortunately, you know, that's
- 22:18Speaker 2: why Dan Wilson and Jerry Depoto get those seven figure contracts, Right,
- 22:22Speaker 2: You've got to make those tough calls. And the tough
- 22:25Speaker 2: call is, you know, the starting pitchers have made it
- 22:28Speaker 2: clear they don't want to go to a six millon rotation.
- 22:31Speaker 2: So you know, to me, it's very clear what you do.
- 22:34Speaker 2: You keep your best five starters and the other guy
- 22:36Speaker 2: has to go to the pen, whether he likes it
- 22:38Speaker 2: or not. I know you got to handle with kick gloves,
- 22:40Speaker 2: but I also think they were trying to stall a
- 22:42Speaker 2: little bit of time to see if they couldn't turn
- 22:45Speaker 2: Luis Castillo into a reliever and a right hand hitter.
- 22:49Speaker 2: So if they could trade Castillo, free up a little
- 22:52Speaker 2: bit of money, get that reliever, get the right hand hitter.
- 22:55Speaker 2: They know they've got Kate Anderson and Ryan Sloan and
- 22:58Speaker 2: the miners to give them depth. There's an injury, so
- 23:01Speaker 2: by stalling, they were hoping to be able to do
- 23:04Speaker 2: it this way. But after the All Star break they're
- 23:06Speaker 2: gonna have to make the decision.
- 23:08Speaker 5: You take the kid gloves off when it's time for playoffs, Jim.
- 23:10Speaker 5: Kid gloves are for teams who are trying to just
- 23:13Speaker 5: suffice everybody. You can have kid gloves in Washington and
- 23:17Speaker 5: places that are rebuilding. My question, and I don't need
- 23:20Speaker 5: kid gloves for this for the All Star because we
- 23:22Speaker 5: heard Zach Wheeler, do you have a pathway for Justin
- 23:25Speaker 5: Robleski and Zach Wheeler to be All Stars since they're
- 23:28Speaker 5: both deserving.
- 23:30Speaker 2: No, but I mean they should have already been on there, Like,
- 23:33Speaker 2: I just don't understand, especially in the case of Wheeler.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I mean, even his teammate Lozardo goes ahead of Wheeler, Like,
- 23:39Speaker 2: what was that based on? You know, I understand lazardro
- 23:42Speaker 2: I wont him in the All Star Game, but how
- 23:43Speaker 2: does he get chosen ahead of Wheeler? That makes no sense.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Number two, we had the Legends pick, so I thought
- 23:49Speaker 2: the Legends pick were like today they announced justin Verland,
- 23:52Speaker 2: there's a Legends pick. That made sense. Right, He's not
- 23:54Speaker 2: an All Star this year, but he's a legend, so
- 23:56Speaker 2: let's put him on there. Albert Pooles, we did it too.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Miguel Cabrera to Clayton Kershaw, we did it too. I
- 24:02Speaker 2: get it. I like it. You know your career is ending,
- 24:04Speaker 2: We're gonna give you one last All Star Game. I
- 24:07Speaker 2: like that. I'm sentimental. I get it. But Bryce Harper
- 24:10Speaker 2: at aged thirty three with twenty homers, who arguably could
- 24:13Speaker 2: have been an All Star anyway. In the conversation, I mean,
- 24:16Speaker 2: and that's your Legend pick. He's four years younger than
- 24:19Speaker 2: Zach Wheeler. If Harper's a legend pick, why isn't Zach
- 24:22Speaker 2: Wheeler a legend pick ahead of Harper? Wheeler's going to
- 24:25Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame like Harper is Like I didn't
- 24:28Speaker 2: understand Harper and Lozardo ahead a Wheeler even and their Phillies.
- 24:31Speaker 2: But find a way the games in Philadelphia. Baseball knew
- 24:35Speaker 2: last year to put Jacob Mazerowski on the All Star Game,
- 24:38Speaker 2: even though he hadn't pitched enough to be there. We
- 24:41Speaker 2: all get why the games in Philly. Zach Wheeler has
- 24:44Speaker 2: to be on this team. Find a way to put
- 24:47Speaker 2: him on. So I don't know how you do it,
- 24:50Speaker 2: but you know, in the best interest of baseball clause
- 24:53Speaker 2: or whatever you want to do. This is an exhibition game.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Wheeler has to be on it, and Rapluski deserves to
- 24:59Speaker 2: be on it.
- 24:59Speaker 5: To be on book in summertime, it's cool in the morning,
- 25:03Speaker 5: hot during the day, cool again at night. Rarely am
- 25:07Speaker 5: I sitting there going, oh, I'm just gonna do one
- 25:09Speaker 5: thing at a time. I'm bouncing from work, I'm bouncing
- 25:12Speaker 5: in the yard, I'm running to a game. Fabletics has
- 25:16Speaker 5: got me with price, comfort and versatility, with all the
- 25:21Speaker 5: gear that I'm getting from them.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we're talking about premium activewear you'd expect from higher
- 25:25Speaker 1: end brands, but without the price tag.
- 25:28Speaker 7: Lightweight, breatheable, comfortable, built to actually last.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And if you're going to Fabletics, you should be joining
- 25:35Speaker 1: as a VIP, which completely changes the game. You can
- 25:38Speaker 1: shop now at fabletics dot com slash foul to get
- 25:41Speaker 1: seventy to eighty percent off everything when you sign up
- 25:45Speaker 1: as a new VIP. Take a quick style quiz and
- 25:48Speaker 1: be sure to select foul when prompted to unlock this offer.
- 25:51Speaker 1: This is a limited time offer, so don't wait again.
- 25:53Speaker 1: That's fabletics dot Com slash foul for seventy to eighty
- 25:58Speaker 1: percent off everything as an VIP. Hey, so let's dig
- 26:03Speaker 1: into this for one more moment here, JB. And yes,
- 26:05Speaker 1: I'm with you. Wheeler's been one of the best pitchers
- 26:07Speaker 1: since he came back. Also, the Philly season turned around
- 26:10Speaker 1: when he came back. No, yeah, I mean I know
- 26:12Speaker 1: there were other things going on there, But for Bryce,
- 26:15Speaker 1: we want to see him in the derby. He wasn't
- 26:17Speaker 1: getting necessarily selected to the All Star team initially, right,
- 26:20Speaker 1: so you get him in because he's not going to
- 26:22Speaker 1: do the Derby without the All Star selection.
- 26:23Speaker 2: That's one.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Kratz, can you help me out here with Wheeler because
- 26:26Speaker 1: we're going to get into this on a segment later.
- 26:28Speaker 1: But he basically said it's bs that he's going to
- 26:31Speaker 1: pitch on the weekend, so then they won't consider you.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Didn't this happen last year too with Christopher Sanchez. It's
- 26:37Speaker 1: like you won't get in consideration if you're going to
- 26:39Speaker 1: pitch on the weekend. Even if he says I would
- 26:40Speaker 1: pitch in the All Star Game, right like he said,
- 26:43Speaker 1: I would pitch this weekend and then do an inning
- 26:45Speaker 1: as my bullpen day.
- 26:46Speaker 2: So what am I missing here?
- 26:48Speaker 1: Like? Why can't a call be made to the league
- 26:49Speaker 1: like hey, I know you have this exception or this
- 26:52Speaker 1: clause for the weekend pitchers. Kratz, am I wrong here
- 26:55Speaker 1: where they're like weekend pitcher, you're out. But he can
- 26:58Speaker 1: call and be like, scratch it, I'm good, I'll pitch Wells.
- 27:03Speaker 2: The Sunday is pitcher is not eligible, the Saturday pitcher is,
- 27:08Speaker 2: so there's no rule against that. So I mean there's
- 27:10Speaker 2: there's no excuses here. I mean Wheeler has to be
- 27:13Speaker 2: on there, and by the way, even if Wheeler was
- 27:14Speaker 2: the Sunday pitcher, you can name him and then he
- 27:18Speaker 2: doesn't pitch. But if he deserves to be on the team,
- 27:21Speaker 2: you can put him on the team and then not
- 27:22Speaker 2: pitch and let him be in Philadelphia to get the
- 27:25Speaker 2: standing ovation and and the hat and the hat tip, right,
- 27:28Speaker 2: I mean, you have to make that happen. So, you know,
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think if you're Dave Dombrowski and you're Don Mattingly,
- 27:36Speaker 2: you know you've got to call the commissioner, You've got
- 27:38Speaker 2: to call the league, and you've got to say, hey, look,
- 27:41Speaker 2: we got to find a way to make this happen.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Number One, because Zach Wheeler deserves to be on the
- 27:46Speaker 2: team over several pitchers that are on the team. So
- 27:49Speaker 2: this is a snub that's inexcusable. And number two, it's
- 27:53Speaker 2: in Philly. Above all that, I mean, it's there. There's
- 27:57Speaker 2: no excuse for Zach Wheeler not being on the All
- 28:00Speaker 2: Star Game. It's embarrassing to the sport. The sport needs
- 28:03Speaker 2: to fix it. They've done these kind of things in
- 28:05Speaker 2: the past. So hopefully if foul Territory can bang the
- 28:09Speaker 2: drum a little bit louder, then perhaps everyone will listen
- 28:12Speaker 2: and make an adjustment.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Well, we all know why Bryce Harper got the Legends pick.
- 28:16Speaker 3: It's because Rob Manfred wanted to be nice to him
- 28:18Speaker 3: and be good to him after they had their argument,
- 28:22Speaker 3: we'll say, last year in the Philly Clubhouse. So let's
- 28:24Speaker 3: let's we all know why Bryce Harper got picked. He
- 28:27Speaker 3: should you make an argument he should have been on
- 28:29Speaker 3: the team anyways with his twenty home runs of what
- 28:31Speaker 3: he's doing. And then also, here's the thing, Jim, that
- 28:33Speaker 3: I have with all of this. Okay, Justin Verlander going
- 28:37Speaker 3: to the Hall of Fame Legends pick cool, like, no problem,
- 28:40Speaker 3: and he announced his retirement. Okay, awesome, good for you,
- 28:43Speaker 3: justin right off in the sunset, get one more hatchet,
- 28:45Speaker 3: whatever you need.
- 28:46Speaker 5: You deserve it.
- 28:47Speaker 3: You've had an unbelievable career, right, Bryce Harper is going
- 28:50Speaker 3: to the Hall of Fame. We all know that one
- 28:52Speaker 3: more All Star game doesn't change things. But when you
- 28:54Speaker 3: start getting into eighty seven All Stars every year, Okay,
- 28:58Speaker 3: and then GM's like yourself. If they go and they
- 29:01Speaker 3: go to their owner and they say, hey, we're gonna
- 29:03Speaker 3: sign whoever you want, let's use I'll use I don't
- 29:07Speaker 3: know whoever, Justin Robuski, right, he was an All Star
- 29:11Speaker 3: last year, mister owner, Oh, we can give him more
- 29:15Speaker 3: money because he was an All Star.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Shouldn't do that.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Then, Hall of Fame voting. This guy was the first
- 29:21Speaker 3: thing on the resume. Ten time All Star. Okay, it
- 29:25Speaker 3: shouldn't matter. If it should be just the numbers, right,
- 29:28Speaker 3: it shouldn't be Well, he's a ten time All Star,
- 29:30Speaker 3: so therefore he automatically gets my vote, right.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Because he didn't have to pitch on a Saturday.
- 29:37Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 29:38Speaker 3: If we're gonna make all these rules and have all
- 29:40Speaker 3: these picks and have this and have that and blah
- 29:43Speaker 3: blah blah, then it shouldn't affect salary. It shouldn't affect
- 29:46Speaker 3: Hall of Fame voting. It shouldn't affect a lot of things.
- 29:48Speaker 3: But when one of the first questions you get when
- 29:50Speaker 3: I talk to people, how many times did you make
- 29:52Speaker 3: the All Star? Did you win a World Series? Were
- 29:55Speaker 3: you an All Star? And how many times? And that's
- 29:57Speaker 3: those are the questions that people care about. So if
- 29:59Speaker 3: we're gonna make this meaningless exhibition, then it shouldn't count
- 30:02Speaker 3: for salaries and all in Hall of Fame voting, I'm sorry,
- 30:05Speaker 3: that's my little soapbox.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good a soapbox. I mean, I think the
- 30:09Speaker 2: one thing to keep in mind though, a lot of
- 30:11Speaker 2: players have that bonus if you make the All Star Team,
- 30:14Speaker 2: So a lot of guys, and I believe Justin Verlander
- 30:16Speaker 2: also has a clause in there where now he's going
- 30:18Speaker 2: to get a bonus for being on the All Star Team.
- 30:20Speaker 2: So you know, there are benefits to the players for
- 30:23Speaker 2: being on there, you know, But in terms of you know,
- 30:26Speaker 2: how many times Verlanders on the All Star Game, it
- 30:28Speaker 2: doesn't one war doesn't matter in his case, whether it
- 30:31Speaker 2: be the Hall of Fame or explaining us. And we're
- 30:33Speaker 2: all going to look at the last time they were
- 30:36Speaker 2: in the All Star Game and understand it was a
- 30:37Speaker 2: legends pick, right. We do that with Polls and Cabrera
- 30:40Speaker 2: and Kershaw. But that kind of level player that's named
- 30:44Speaker 2: because of the legend, you know, it's you know, we
- 30:47Speaker 2: all understand what kind of player you are that's going
- 30:49Speaker 2: to do that. Harper is the one that just doesn't
- 30:51Speaker 2: feel right because it's not like he's going to retire
- 30:54Speaker 2: anytime soon. It's not like his contract is up. He's
- 30:56Speaker 2: thirty three years old. You know, that's not what the
- 30:59Speaker 2: legend thing was supposed to be.
- 31:00Speaker 5: Four.
- 31:01Speaker 2: The legend thing was supposed to be for the older player.
- 31:04Speaker 2: That the only way they were gonna make it and
- 31:06Speaker 2: honor them was that you choose him with that clause.
- 31:09Speaker 2: That's what Kershaw, Kaperer, and Poholz were. None of them
- 31:11Speaker 2: were all players that deserve to be on the All
- 31:14Speaker 2: Star team. They got there because of that. That's why
- 31:16Speaker 2: Verlander's on here. You know, next year Max Scherzer could
- 31:19Speaker 2: be the guy, or could have been this year. Paul
- 31:21Speaker 2: Goldschmidt could have been a consideration. Harper, to me, didn't
- 31:25Speaker 2: make any sense. And by the way, he could have
- 31:27Speaker 2: been a replacement on the All Star team anyway and
- 31:29Speaker 2: gotten on there. But he could be an All Star
- 31:31Speaker 2: next year. So why are we using the legend for
- 31:33Speaker 2: him this year? Are we just guessing that at thirty
- 31:36Speaker 2: four next year he's not going to be an All Star?
- 31:38Speaker 2: It just didn't fit. And then it doesn't feel right
- 31:40Speaker 2: because we're in the middle of a labor agreement and
- 31:43Speaker 2: Harper's the one that told the commissioner to get the
- 31:45Speaker 2: f out of our clubhouse, especially if you're got to
- 31:48Speaker 2: talk about salary caps, So it doesn't feel right. It's
- 31:51Speaker 2: not good optics either, to be honest, I mean, I
- 31:53Speaker 2: don't think that was the intent here, but it doesn't
- 31:55Speaker 2: look good. It's just to me.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I mean, I know there's other reasoning too, but the
- 32:00Speaker 1: derby play is huge, right, Bryce Harper in the derby
- 32:03Speaker 1: in Philly that let's just finish with this. Do you
- 32:06Speaker 1: want Bryce Harper in the derby and Philly? I think
- 32:08Speaker 1: we would all agree that's gonna be fun, right, It's
- 32:10Speaker 1: the only way. It's the only way to get him there.
- 32:12Speaker 1: He's not going if you don't make him the the exception,
- 32:15Speaker 1: And like AJ said, everyone's an All Star these days,
- 32:18Speaker 1: so you just say, hey, you're an All Star, You're
- 32:19Speaker 1: in the derby?
- 32:20Speaker 2: Should should?
- 32:21Speaker 5: Okay?
- 32:21Speaker 3: Real quick, I know we got to go. Should players
- 32:23Speaker 3: get their bonus if they're like Va Guerrero get named
- 32:25Speaker 3: and they don't go yes, okay, okay. That's why they're
- 32:29Speaker 3: eighty seven thousand All Stars. That's why there's seven thousand
- 32:32Speaker 3: All Stars because guys get their bonus and they say, Okay,
- 32:34Speaker 3: I got my fifty or one hundred grand, see what,
- 32:37Speaker 3: I'm gonna go to the beach for three days.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Sure, he's got a back injury though, so we
- 32:43Speaker 2: got to show No.
- 32:44Speaker 3: No, he's just the one that has already said he's out.
- 32:46Speaker 3: I didn't mean to throw I.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Know the astros are the culprits. I brought up JB
- 32:49Speaker 1: for like ten years. Eighty percent of the Astros didn't go.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's true, right. I spoke to a couple even off
- 32:54Speaker 1: the field about it. They were like, I don't want
- 32:55Speaker 1: to deal with that crap. They didn't want to deal
- 32:57Speaker 1: with it when it was you know, post trash Can incident.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Cheating scandal. Right, Yes, they go face the music with
- 33:03Speaker 2: the with the other players as well as the fans. Yeah, no,
- 33:05Speaker 2: I get it.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Mm hmm. This is a great talk, JB. We'll love
- 33:08Speaker 1: having you on. We'll catch you soon. We'll see you
- 33:10Speaker 1: thanks next week in Philly.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Look forward to it.
- 33:15Speaker 7: M
