- 2:18Speaker 3: the show. The man from the Charleston Convention of iSER Bureau,
- 2:22Speaker 3: Tim Brady, Good morning, sir, how are you.
- 2:24Speaker 6: I'm great, Dave. You know, I think, like a lot
- 2:26Speaker 6: of people, still trying to process John Cena's heel turn
- 2:29Speaker 6: and elimination Chamber Saturday night. But beyond that, man, I'm great.
- 2:34Speaker 3: You know, I don't I don't watch a lot of
- 2:37Speaker 3: wrestling these days. I haven't watched it in years. However,
- 2:41Speaker 3: I did see a lot of feed and of course
- 2:43Speaker 3: we have the show my man Hollywood. Jeff Petty does
- 2:45Speaker 3: his podcast here and that seemed to be all of
- 2:48Speaker 3: the all the rage was was the John Cena heel
- 2:51Speaker 3: turn on the pay per view I guess Saturday night,
- 2:54Speaker 3: is that right? Yeah?
- 2:54Speaker 6: Saturday night, at the end of Elimination Chamber, he went,
- 2:58Speaker 6: he went heel and attacked Cody Rhodes. You know, It's
- 3:00Speaker 6: a big deal because in the wrestling world, nobody ever
- 3:03Speaker 6: thought John Cena would turn heel. You know, he's holds
- 3:06Speaker 6: the record for most make a wishes granted, like he's.
- 3:09Speaker 3: A he's a hero in that community.
- 3:11Speaker 6: His whole vibe has been hustle, loyalty, respect, and so
- 3:15Speaker 6: the heel turn was it caught a lot of people
- 3:17Speaker 6: off guard.
- 3:17Speaker 3: It was a shocking moment.
- 3:18Speaker 6: And uh yeah, still, as I said, I'm still trying
- 3:21Speaker 6: to process it.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Care if you have Matt Sutton plenty to talk about.
- 3:24Speaker 6: I'm sure the texts have gone and Adam, well, you
- 3:29Speaker 6: just you just basically it's like you were reading through
- 3:31Speaker 6: the text threat on my phone between the three of
- 3:34Speaker 6: us all weekend long.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah, anyway, I want to get into this a little bit,
- 3:37Speaker 3: but we're here to talk now, and I want to
- 3:39Speaker 3: get in this a little bit later on with the mayor.
- 3:41Speaker 3: But it was another weekend him here in the capital
- 3:44Speaker 3: city with a ton of things going on. I mean,
- 3:46Speaker 3: and I know I'll leave something out, but you had
- 3:48Speaker 3: the Celtic Calling event which wrapped up yesterday. Saturday night
- 3:52Speaker 3: was the festival fundraiser. There was a huge wrestling event
- 3:55Speaker 3: and not kind of wrestling. You're talking about actual, actual, actual,
- 4:00Speaker 3: actual wrestling youth. The wrestling event, the Winter Blues Farmers
- 4:03Speaker 3: Farmer's Market was at the Kybleseum Convention Center. Saturday night,
- 4:07Speaker 3: capacity gathering at Embversity Embassy Suites for the Marshall University
- 4:11Speaker 3: Court Back Club at Charleston's Beach Party. I was there
- 4:13Speaker 3: for that. I'm sure we left something off, but man,
- 4:18Speaker 3: my point is there's a whole lot of stuff going
- 4:20Speaker 3: on in the capital city this past weekend.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Yeah, and I go back to a conversation that we
- 4:24Speaker 6: had the last time I was here, Dave, and I
- 4:26Speaker 6: think we see the model, and the model works, and
- 4:29Speaker 6: it is when we combine all of these things were
- 4:32Speaker 6: all better. You know, the West Virginia Youth Wrestling Association
- 4:36Speaker 6: state championships that you mentioned on Saturday, I think, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 6: certainly brought a lot of people to town. We know that,
- 4:44Speaker 6: for a fact, you couldn't shoehorn another person into a
- 4:46Speaker 6: hotel room in Charleston this weekend. And I think that
- 4:50Speaker 6: trickles down and it it people go to see the
- 4:54Speaker 6: Celtic Calling festivities while they're in town, they go out
- 4:56Speaker 6: to eat, and they realize there's something cool happening in
- 4:58Speaker 6: downtown Charleston. So you know, the model of combining events
- 5:02Speaker 6: and having these robust weekends make it a more attractive
- 5:06Speaker 6: city for locals and visitors.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And again, I think it's interesting and that you did
- 5:11Speaker 3: talk about that the last time you were here, that
- 5:12Speaker 3: people say, well, you know, there's all these different activities
- 5:15Speaker 3: going on, but they don't There was a school of thought,
- 5:17Speaker 3: I guess at one time that okay, just one activity
- 5:20Speaker 3: at a time, but that's not necessarily the case because again,
- 5:24Speaker 3: you take the wrestling event for example, people aren't going
- 5:28Speaker 3: to be there the entire time these sporting events. Their
- 5:31Speaker 3: kid may have their activity at two o'clock in the afternoon,
- 5:34Speaker 3: then they don't have to be back until like one
- 5:36Speaker 3: o'clock the next day or whatever. So that's a lot
- 5:39Speaker 3: of downtime to go to the restaurants and go to
- 5:41Speaker 3: the bars, or go to the Celtic Calling event or
- 5:44Speaker 3: all these other events that were going on as well.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Yeah. I happened to be downtown when the Celtic Calling
- 5:48Speaker 6: parade went down Capitol Street and I saw a lot
- 5:50Speaker 6: of people in very clearly wrestling gear. You know, they're
- 5:55Speaker 6: not the gear, but you know, like sweatshirts, wrestling mom sweatshirt. Right,
- 5:58Speaker 6: So we saw people that had come in for wrestling
- 6:03Speaker 6: taking part in in those activities, and it just makes
- 6:05Speaker 6: the city a more exciting, more vibrant place. Vibrant is
- 6:09Speaker 6: the word I'm looking for there.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Talking to Tim Brady again from the Charleston CVB, but
- 6:12Speaker 3: Dave Allen show in five Adyline brought to you in
- 6:14Speaker 3: part by Bridge Valley. Their Win Academy can provide free
- 6:17Speaker 3: college credit in nursing and advanced manufacturing to students while
- 6:20Speaker 3: they're still in high school. Visitbridge Valley dot edu slash
- 6:23Speaker 3: Win Academy for more information. All Right, the main reason
- 6:26Speaker 3: I want to have you here, though, announcement was made
- 6:28Speaker 3: that TBT is coming back.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Yep, TBT returning to Charleston July eighteenth to the twenty
- 6:33Speaker 6: third and maybe longer. There's an interesting ticket model this
- 6:37Speaker 6: year that we can talk about. But yeah, I remember
- 6:42Speaker 6: very clearly talking about TBT when it was here in
- 6:45Speaker 6: twenty one and twenty two and saying I think the
- 6:48Speaker 6: model is let's host it for a couple of years,
- 6:52Speaker 6: let the regional go somewhere else, and then bring it
- 6:55Speaker 6: back and generate that enthusiasm, and we saw that in
- 6:58Speaker 6: practice this week because we got a lot of really
- 7:01Speaker 6: positive response that TBT was coming back in twenty twenty five,
- 7:05Speaker 6: In twenty three, it was in Wheeling, in twenty four,
- 7:07Speaker 6: it was in Pittsburgh. They're coming back to Charleston. They
- 7:10Speaker 6: want to be in Charleston. They sell a lot of
- 7:13Speaker 6: tickets in Charleston, so we're excited to bring them back
- 7:16Speaker 6: in July. And there's an incentivized ticket model where you
- 7:19Speaker 6: could theoretically see the entire tournament play out in Charleston
- 7:23Speaker 6: if ticket sales are strong. After you get through the
- 7:26Speaker 6: regional for the next round, they look at the top
- 7:29Speaker 6: four selling sites ticket sales sites, and then host that
- 7:32Speaker 6: next round there. So there is a model where if
- 7:35Speaker 6: Best Virginia continues to win and ticket sales are strong,
- 7:40Speaker 6: the entire tournament up to and including the championship game
- 7:43Speaker 6: could be played at the Charleston Coliseum. So that's exciting
- 7:46Speaker 6: as well.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Indeed, it is, and it's amazing Tim to me how
- 7:51Speaker 3: popular that this thing is. But when you have teams.
- 7:54Speaker 3: You mentioned Best Virginia and you have heard that when
- 7:56Speaker 3: you have these teams that people remember the names because
- 8:00Speaker 3: not that far removed from their playing days for me,
- 8:02Speaker 3: a couple of years for most of them. You know,
- 8:03Speaker 3: people here are gonna love it. They are, and it's funny.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I had this conversation with Tony Curriedy last week. It's
- 8:10Speaker 3: also about the name on the front of the jersey, right,
- 8:12Speaker 3: Like some of the players will change. Some of the
- 8:14Speaker 3: guys that you recognize will be back. John Flowers still involved,
- 8:18Speaker 3: some of the other guys that came through the program
- 8:20Speaker 3: that people recognize or are obviously still involved. But it's
- 8:23Speaker 3: also it's at a time of year where there is
- 8:25Speaker 3: no other basketball being played. There's really no collegiate sports.
- 8:29Speaker 3: So if you are a WVU or and I have
- 8:31Speaker 3: to say Marshall the Herd, that team has not been
- 8:34Speaker 3: officially announced yet, although we do anticipate that they'll be
- 8:37Speaker 3: in it, but they've not been announced yet. You know,
- 8:41Speaker 3: people who are passionate about college sports, this is the
- 8:45Speaker 3: time of year where there's nothing else to sort of
- 8:47Speaker 3: feed that jones. So people buy in and get excited
- 8:51Speaker 3: because there is nothing else right at that period of
- 8:54Speaker 3: time to sort of.
- 8:55Speaker 6: Scratch that itch. So that's exciting. And I will say,
- 9:00Speaker 6: and I can just preface this, there will likely be
- 9:04Speaker 6: a third team with West Virginia Ties participating in the
- 9:09Speaker 6: Charleston Regional in July, so keep your eyes and ears
- 9:13Speaker 6: open for more information about that as it comes available.
- 9:16Speaker 6: And the bikes are on their way back to USA.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Cite that Yeah, USA Cycling. The second of our five
- 9:22Speaker 6: year contract returns May nineteenth to the twenty sixth, and
- 9:25Speaker 6: I have to say a big thank you to Spilman
- 9:28Speaker 6: Thomas Battle are presenting sponsor this year. They've signed on
- 9:31Speaker 6: to be our local presenting sponsor for the next four years.
- 9:34Speaker 6: So certainly want to say a big thank you to
- 9:37Speaker 6: Mike Basil and the team at Spilman Thomas Battle for
- 9:41Speaker 6: signing on. But we're really excited and this year, Dave,
- 9:44Speaker 6: another really cool thing that I'm excited about with the
- 9:47Speaker 6: USA Cycling Pro Road Nationals is the addition of Paracycling,
- 9:51Speaker 6: bringing a whole new classification of athletes of different abilities
- 9:56Speaker 6: to Charleston to compete for their national championships as well.
- 10:00Speaker 6: So we'll see paracycling in the city of Charleston, and
- 10:04Speaker 6: I'm excited to bring the athletes here and give them
- 10:06Speaker 6: a great experience, and I'm excited for our community to
- 10:09Speaker 6: be exposed to these pair of athletes and what their
- 10:12Speaker 6: abilities really are. It's going to be really exciting and
- 10:15Speaker 6: it's going to be a lot of fun.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And last year, I mean, this thing was so big
- 10:19Speaker 3: and you knew, I don't know, when you and the
- 10:21Speaker 3: mayor and others announced this, you thought it was going
- 10:23Speaker 3: to be big. But I think it even surprised you
- 10:26Speaker 3: folks by how big and how the city really embrace
- 10:29Speaker 3: not just the city, but the entire Canal Valley in
- 10:32Speaker 3: this part of West Virginia really embraced the entire event.
- 10:34Speaker 6: And that's the word Dave, and I've used it a
- 10:36Speaker 6: lot over the course of the last year, and that
- 10:38Speaker 6: is embraced. The community really embraced this race at a
- 10:43Speaker 6: level that we didn't anticipate. We knew it was going
- 10:45Speaker 6: to be big, we did not anticipate, as you said,
- 10:47Speaker 6: how big it was going to be. And that just
- 10:50Speaker 6: really fueled me to really put the work in and
- 10:53Speaker 6: be excited about twenty twenty five and beyond, because the
- 10:56Speaker 6: enthusiasm in this community was contagious that week. And I've
- 11:00Speaker 6: told people this multiple times that race last year, that
- 11:04Speaker 6: event last year was the most rewarding project that I've
- 11:07Speaker 6: ever worked on in my professional career. To see the
- 11:09Speaker 6: community come out and embrace those racers and the athletes
- 11:13Speaker 6: and the races themselves was just it was It was
- 11:17Speaker 6: really satisfying and I can't wait to grow on that.
- 11:22Speaker 2: UH.
- 11:23Speaker 5: This year, I.
- 11:23Speaker 6: Will say that, you know, we're going to start some
- 11:25Speaker 6: some pretty robust and extensive volunteer recruitment over the course
- 11:30Speaker 6: of the next couple of weeks. We're already recruiting, but
- 11:33Speaker 6: we're going to launch a campaign to recruit volunteers. We
- 11:35Speaker 6: need we need more volunteers this year. So what hope
- 11:38Speaker 6: are we talking about for a volunteers I would I
- 11:41Speaker 6: would like to have between two hundred and two hundred
- 11:43Speaker 6: and fifty volunteers signed up for the week.
- 11:44Speaker 3: And what exactly do those volunteers do?
- 11:46Speaker 6: You know, a lot of what they do is just
- 11:49Speaker 6: crowd and traffic control, serving as race course martials, race marshals.
- 11:53Speaker 6: You know, certainly there's police presidence at the major intersections.
- 11:57Speaker 7: UH.
- 11:57Speaker 6: And I have to say thank you the Charleston Police
- 11:59Speaker 6: Department that this is a heavy lift. In all the
- 12:01Speaker 6: city departments, streets, parking, public works, everybody pitches in. It's
- 12:06Speaker 6: an amazing team effort. But the volunteers, you know, they
- 12:10Speaker 6: keep people off the road, they keep cars off of
- 12:12Speaker 6: the off of the course. They're really important. The volunteers
- 12:16Speaker 6: are critical to the success of the race. It's it's
- 12:21Speaker 6: not a lot of hard work. It can be some
- 12:23Speaker 6: long hours, but uh, it's also really fun and fulfilling work.
- 12:28Speaker 3: And won't be along TOI we'll be talking about regatta.
- 12:30Speaker 3: We should see some announcements. I would think, come it
- 12:32Speaker 3: up soon. I'll get into that with the mayor a
- 12:33Speaker 3: little bit. With those announcements.
- 12:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I would imagine you'll see we're got to entertainment
- 12:36Speaker 6: announcements coming soon. We've and there's a lot of other
- 12:39Speaker 6: things coming up this summer. Dave that in June there's
- 12:41Speaker 6: an event called the Great Race that I'm love to
- 12:43Speaker 6: come back and talk about as it gets a little
- 12:45Speaker 6: bit closer. But the Great Races. Think about the Cannonball
- 12:49Speaker 6: Run and this notion of cars racing from city to city, right,
- 12:54Speaker 6: it's antique cars that the travelist circuit across the country
- 12:58Speaker 6: and they race from city to and I say race
- 13:01Speaker 6: in the sense that they all drive from city to
- 13:04Speaker 6: city in their timed It's not like they're racing on
- 13:06Speaker 6: our highways. But it's a timed it's a time to
- 13:09Speaker 6: vent and they go from city to city, and I
- 13:11Speaker 6: think they're in Frankfort, Kentucky the night before they come here,
- 13:14Speaker 6: and they'll be here on a Thursday in Charleston. We're
- 13:16Speaker 6: going to close down the boulevard that night and do
- 13:18Speaker 6: some music at Hadad and welcome these racers to town.
- 13:22Speaker 6: And then they leave out the next morning and go
- 13:24Speaker 6: to their next destination. But that'll be cool. That's in June.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Happy to come back and talk about that. A ton
- 13:28Speaker 6: of stuff coming up this summer, Dave, and it's super exciting,
- 13:32Speaker 6: and I'm leaving off two or three things that I
- 13:34Speaker 6: don't want to tip my hat on, but summer is
- 13:37Speaker 6: going to be a lot of fun in the city
- 13:38Speaker 6: of Charlestown.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Jex says, Remember growing up, no gen xer ever thought
- 13:43Speaker 3: hul Cogan would turn also then he went in woo.
- 13:47Speaker 5: You know.
- 13:48Speaker 6: There's a quote about hull Cogan that I can't share
- 13:50Speaker 6: on this radio program from the Iron Chic, but I
- 13:53Speaker 6: will say that I saw a lot of that sentiment
- 13:56Speaker 6: over the weekend regarding seen as he'll turn in. When
- 14:00Speaker 6: Hogan joined the nWo is the third member. I think
- 14:03Speaker 6: it shocked a lot of people, and a lot of
- 14:05Speaker 6: people were shocked Saturday night. I love that I just
- 14:07Speaker 6: spent ten minutes talk to me about all of this
- 14:09Speaker 6: great stuff coming up at the City of Charleston, and
- 14:11Speaker 6: the passionate wrestling community still wants to talk about seeing
- 14:15Speaker 6: as heel turn.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Well, guess what I have another text about wrestle. Let's
- 14:18Speaker 3: do it. We'll do this. I'll let you go. I'd
- 14:20Speaker 3: like to know what the CEO of the CVB means
- 14:23Speaker 3: by actual wrestling? Was Travis Scott in Charleston or was
- 14:26Speaker 3: he at an actual wrestling event in Toronto? I'll give
- 14:29Speaker 3: you one guess, because that one came to me personally.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Who that's from.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess what I meant was amateur Olympic style wrestling,
- 14:38Speaker 6: you know the kind that Kurt Angle did before he
- 14:40Speaker 6: joined the WWE.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I think you know.
- 14:43Speaker 6: The Travis Scott part of this is one of the
- 14:46Speaker 6: most fascinating things. I was reading this morning that he's
- 14:48Speaker 6: actually been training at one of the WWE Legends wrestling schools.
- 14:53Speaker 6: He's going to actually get in the ring. But I didn't.
- 14:57Speaker 6: I guess actual wrestling was the wrong word. Olympic style
- 15:01Speaker 6: wrestling is is really Just remember that famous the slap
- 15:05Speaker 6: heerd around the world that doctor d David Schultz did
- 15:08Speaker 6: to John Stossel on twenty twenty in nineteen eighty five.
- 15:11Speaker 6: Just remember that it's real to me, damn it.

- 20:47Speaker 3: You know, I have no idea about that, but let
- 20:49Speaker 3: me let me just say this, and this is just
- 20:51Speaker 3: my opinion. It was a horrible look for our country.
- 20:55Speaker 3: And I'm not necessarily talking about the contents of what was,

- 21:37Speaker 3: necessarily talking about what the president said, but the way
- 21:42Speaker 3: and the manner and the setting of where it was said,
- 21:46Speaker 3: and for the vice president to chime in as well.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I mean, this is this is where we are now.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Shouldn't be surprised though. I mean Donald Trump thrives on
- 21:58Speaker 3: drama and controversy. He he did that well before he
- 22:01Speaker 3: ever entered the political arena, so no reason to think
- 22:03Speaker 3: he would change once he got into the oval office.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Now he's twice in the over office. I mean, I
- 22:12Speaker 3: got nothing here, even Mark or Rubio. If you saw
- 22:16Speaker 3: Mark or Rubio on George Deephanopolis's show yesterday. He seemed
- 22:21Speaker 3: on yesterday's show to support what the President and VP
- 22:25Speaker 3: did on Friday. But if you go back and watch
- 22:27Speaker 3: the tape of what happened in real time on Friday.
- 22:30Speaker 3: I think even Secretary of State Rubio seemed embarrassed by
- 22:33Speaker 3: the whole thing. But that's neither here nor there. Now
- 22:38Speaker 3: the legislature, who seemed to be a little bit more
- 22:41Speaker 3: concerned with social issues the surprise of no one, than
- 22:44Speaker 3: they are actually getting stuff done that benefits everyday West Virginians.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Ranked choice voting seems to be on some people's minds

- 22:55Speaker 3: dropped a really good commentary on the whole ranked choice
- 22:58Speaker 3: voting thing over the weekends, so we have that now.
- 23:00Speaker 3: We're still talking about gender issues that may be tackled
- 23:03Speaker 3: today which impact absolutely no one, not an issue here
- 23:06Speaker 3: in West Virginia. Everyone points to the one case out
- 23:09Speaker 3: of Harrison County I think it was, But go ahead
- 23:12Speaker 3: and try to find another one. I mean, I'll wait

- 23:17Speaker 3: courtroom about this on Friday and her foster care system.
- 23:20Speaker 3: We have kids staying in hotels and apparently at campsites.
- 23:24Speaker 3: But go ahead, legislature, just just focus on the stupid crap.
- 23:28Speaker 3: It's Monday, and I'm not even starting off on a
- 23:31Speaker 3: positive note. I do want to get this news item
- 23:35Speaker 3: out there. And the investigation continues, and we reported on
- 23:38Speaker 3: this yesterday. A body was discovered near the mount in
- 23:41Speaker 3: South Charleston yesterday that according to the South Charleston Police Department.
- 23:44Speaker 3: No word this morning on whether foul play is expected
- 23:48Speaker 3: or not. South Charleston Police continuing the investigation. I mean,
- 23:51Speaker 3: I've got some texts and then we'll bring the mayor
- 23:53Speaker 3: in Texas watched the entire forty five minute video of Trump,
- 23:59Speaker 3: Vans and Zelensky. Lensky was very snarky and built up
- 24:02Speaker 3: to that blow up. It was a Lensky that began

- 25:15Speaker 3: a guest, whether it's Austin Smith who is with the
- 25:18Speaker 3: Charleston Fire Department. Austin, good morning, Welcome to the show,
- 25:20Speaker 3: Good morning sir, thanks for being here so tomorrow is
- 25:24Speaker 3: the seventy sixth, that's correct anniversary of the world with
- 25:27Speaker 3: fire in Charleston. Mayor I'll start, I'll start with you.
- 25:32Speaker 3: A tragic day in the history of the capital city.
- 25:35Speaker 11: It is, and we remember the Wolwarth fire and are
- 25:40Speaker 11: lost and injured firefighters every year. Captain Austin Smith, who's
- 25:45Speaker 11: here with me today, can talk a little bit more
- 25:47Speaker 11: about it. But many folks remember that day in Charleston,
- 25:51Speaker 11: and I have learned a lot from our firefighters and
- 25:55Speaker 11: listening and learning to them what happened on that day,
- 25:58Speaker 11: how many firefighters we lost. It was a tragic, tragic event.
- 26:04Speaker 11: But as we continued to talk every year during in
- 26:07Speaker 11: and around this sad anniversary, the importance of investing in
- 26:13Speaker 11: our first responders, their safety and their training to be sure.
- 26:18Speaker 11: But it was it was a terrible day in the
- 26:20Speaker 11: city of Charleston.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Captain, Yeah, it definitely was.
- 26:23Speaker 4: It's a it's something you have to remember, and we
- 26:25Speaker 4: wouldn't don't like to think back on tragedies, but they
- 26:29Speaker 4: really do need to be remembered on a regular basis
- 26:32Speaker 4: so that we can learn from them. You know that
- 26:34Speaker 4: that morning, at four am in the morning, it was
- 26:36Speaker 4: a typical response for the guys, and they responded from
- 26:39Speaker 4: Elizabeth Street. They responded there because a police officer noticed
- 26:42Speaker 4: some white smoke. Typical job, No big deal, you know.
- 26:45Speaker 4: They rolled up there, no big deal to them. They
- 26:47Speaker 4: went into the first floor, sent a crude the basement
- 26:50Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden tragedy collapse that happened.
- 26:52Speaker 4: The first four collapse down the basement, trapping seven firefighters,
- 26:56Speaker 4: eventually killing two more through their critical injuries and injuring fifteen.
- 27:00Speaker 4: So a split second and their whole lives changed. And
- 27:04Speaker 4: like the mayor said, it's so important that we always
- 27:07Speaker 4: remember the importance of our training. And thankfully we have
- 27:11Speaker 4: a mayor and city council that really puts, you know,
- 27:13Speaker 4: firefire safety in their first responder safety at a forefront,
- 27:16Speaker 4: providing with us with the tools and the resources we
- 27:18Speaker 4: need to keep our training up so that we can
- 27:21Speaker 4: keep on doing a safe job.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And if any good captain comes out of a tragedy,
- 27:27Speaker 3: and you hate to say something good came out, but
- 27:29Speaker 3: you touched on training. And there have been people and
- 27:33Speaker 3: I've got a lot of friends that are in the
- 27:34Speaker 3: fire fighting game, so it's not a game. But you
- 27:36Speaker 3: know what I mean, And in the first responders that
- 27:39Speaker 3: have looked to that across the country as the war
- 27:43Speaker 3: to fire and they have used it as a training mechanism.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Sure, so that a lot of that is as understanding
- 27:49Speaker 4: your surroundings and understanding building construction. When you roll up
- 27:53Speaker 4: to the scene. The firefighters who arrived there, they thought
- 27:55Speaker 4: it was just a typical fire, you know, a small
- 27:57Speaker 4: light smoke fire, no big deal. But ubknowes to themselves
- 28:02Speaker 4: the fire had been raging in the basin for a
- 28:04Speaker 4: long time and that smoke has just been whisping out.
- 28:06Speaker 4: So the fact of getting in doing building inspections, knowing
- 28:10Speaker 4: pre plans of the buildings in our territory, having that
- 28:13Speaker 4: constant training and expecting the unexpected and being prepared for it,
- 28:17Speaker 4: and then also the resources to back you up. That
- 28:20Speaker 4: whole entire company was stuck, and thankfully there was a
- 28:24Speaker 4: whole city of firefighters willing to come and help and
- 28:27Speaker 4: do the rescue and they could. So having that massive
- 28:30Speaker 4: resources that a city this size needs is really invaluable.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Again, we're talking for the first part of the segment
- 28:36Speaker 3: today about the anniversary of the World War of Fire,
- 28:38Speaker 3: which is tomorrow, and Mayor. I know that you've become
- 28:42Speaker 3: somewhat of a historian, as many other people have been studying,
- 28:45Speaker 3: studying this dark piece of Charleston's history.
- 28:49Speaker 11: You know, it was interesting. I've only been there for
- 28:52Speaker 11: six years, but last year and the year before we
- 28:54Speaker 11: actually had relatives of the fallen firefighters there with us
- 29:00Speaker 11: and to talk about their family's legacy. That's something that we,
- 29:06Speaker 11: as Austin says, we need to continue to do. These
- 29:08Speaker 11: were public servants. And so let me say something about
- 29:11Speaker 11: public servants in a time in which folks are kind
- 29:14Speaker 11: of thumbing their nose, let me say that, not only
- 29:18Speaker 11: are the folks that Austin's talking about are firefighters, are
- 29:22Speaker 11: ems responders, they're public servants. So are the folks who
- 29:25Speaker 11: are going out and demoing these buildings for us as well,
- 29:28Speaker 11: in our building department and our inspectors. They are also
- 29:30Speaker 11: public servants. You don't think about somebody from the building
- 29:33Speaker 11: department being a part of our safety team, By golly,
- 29:37Speaker 11: they are. They're going out there to make sure that
- 29:40Speaker 11: these structures that our guys and gals are going into
- 29:43Speaker 11: in the middle of the night are safe, and if
- 29:46Speaker 11: they're not, they're notified. You know, I don't like to
- 29:50Speaker 11: tear buildings down, but in the six years I've been here,
- 29:53Speaker 11: we've done over six hundred and twenty structures. I don't
- 29:58Speaker 11: like to do it, but they're coming down if they're
- 30:00Speaker 11: not safe, and we should not expect our firefighters to
- 30:03Speaker 11: go into these buildings that are coming down because a
- 30:08Speaker 11: lack of repair or maintenance. And so I'm really proud
- 30:11Speaker 11: not only of our CFD, but also also our Building
- 30:15Speaker 11: Department as well. And you'll hear in our budget tonight
- 30:18Speaker 11: we're going to keep up our monies to get those
- 30:20Speaker 11: buildings down because they appreciate it as much as I do.
- 30:24Speaker 11: We're not going to put our first responders in unnecessary harms.
- 30:28Speaker 12: Way.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Talking again with Charleston me or Amy Schuler Goodwin and
- 30:32Speaker 3: Captain Austin Smith from Charleston Fire Department of Dave Vallet

- 30:47Speaker 3: Captain Smith, before we let you go on the training
- 30:50Speaker 3: that is conducted by the fire departments here. How much
- 30:54Speaker 3: of that do you draw upon and how much of
- 30:56Speaker 3: the young firefighters that are coming in, how much do
- 30:59Speaker 3: you part the history and the story of the woold
- 31:02Speaker 3: word fire when you are talking to perspective of firefighters.
- 31:07Speaker 4: So all of our new recruits come by and we
- 31:10Speaker 4: take them by the plaque that's out of the worst
- 31:12Speaker 4: building and we tell them the story, give them a history,
- 31:15Speaker 4: a lesson of what happened, what's the worst case scenario,
- 31:18Speaker 4: and then how vital it is to prepare for the
- 31:21Speaker 4: worst case scenario. And then the Charles's Fire Department is
- 31:23Speaker 4: excellent in training. We take pride in our training of
- 31:27Speaker 4: the members on the fire department, so it's constantly on
- 31:29Speaker 4: the forefront. Is every day is training in the Charles
- 31:32Speaker 4: The Fire Department. We do training every day three sixty five.
- 31:35Speaker 4: We work twenty four hour shifts, so we have plenty
- 31:37Speaker 4: of time to fit in a training scenario in our day.
- 31:41Speaker 4: And our training department is is the top notch about it.
- 31:44Speaker 4: So we really try to keep training on the forefront
- 31:47Speaker 4: and then always remind ourselves we don't want to think
- 31:50Speaker 4: about too much because you don't want to slow your
- 31:53Speaker 4: response or make you question what you're doing, but you
- 31:55Speaker 4: need to have in the back of your mind of
- 31:57Speaker 4: the worst case thing that could happen, and then prepare diligently.
- 32:00Speaker 3: All right, Captain Smith, I appreciate you taking time out
- 32:03Speaker 3: of your schedule to be here. We're gonna cut you
- 32:05Speaker 3: loose and we'll let the mayor finish out the show.

- 34:48Speaker 11: Yeah, the tbt's back in Charleston. Very excited about that.

- 35:11Speaker 2: I have.
- 35:11Speaker 11: I'm not gonna I'm not going to divulge too much,
- 35:13Speaker 11: but I have gifts for a couple of our council
- 35:16Speaker 11: members who did not miss a day at USA Cycling.
- 35:20Speaker 11: And so if you went to any of the events,
- 35:22Speaker 11: if you missed him last year, please go this year
- 35:24Speaker 11: because it's the most exciting thing. And I know Tim
- 35:29Speaker 11: had talked about one of the most rewarding things. It's
- 35:30Speaker 11: one of the most exciting. I mean where God is exciting. Absolutely.
- 35:34Speaker 11: I didn't expect. None of us knew anything about it.
- 35:37Speaker 11: We were like, this is going to be great.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Going fast.
- 35:39Speaker 11: Yeah, we've seen video of other cities.
- 35:41Speaker 3: This is amazing.
- 35:42Speaker 11: I talked to mayors from other cities.
- 35:44Speaker 4: AU posted this, this will be cool.
- 35:46Speaker 11: I didn't know. I didn't know. So bringing more cow
- 35:50Speaker 11: bell this year, literally and figuratively.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Uh.
- 35:53Speaker 11: And so I have a couple of gifts to give
- 35:55Speaker 11: to some of our council members who really were so
- 35:57Speaker 11: supportive and showed up every single day to help with
- 36:01Speaker 11: USA Cycling and be the biggest cheerleaders on the front lines.
- 36:04Speaker 11: But you know, listening to Tim this morning on my
- 36:06Speaker 11: drive in, there's so many things he said or you
- 36:10Speaker 11: were talking about. You know, it was the Celtic Calling,
- 36:11Speaker 11: and we had wrestling and we were talking about Marshall
- 36:14Speaker 11: University's Quarterback club and gosh, you wiz, we had so
- 36:17Speaker 11: many people in town and you know, one of the
- 36:19Speaker 11: biggest problems we have there's nowhere to stay and the
- 36:22Speaker 11: restaurant lines are too long. Man, that's music to my ears.
- 36:26Speaker 11: It's music to my ears. But it's not just that.
- 36:29Speaker 11: Let me you know, when people say, oh, there's there's
- 36:31Speaker 11: too many things. You don't want to have something on
- 36:33Speaker 11: this weekend because there's the Celtic Calling, which I took
- 36:36Speaker 11: my son who was home for the home for the weekend,
- 36:38Speaker 11: down to the Celtic Calling. Yes you do. And here's
- 36:42Speaker 11: why Tim called it being vibrant. Right, Well, this is
- 36:45Speaker 11: what Longwood's international the world's leading travel and tourism research
- 36:50Speaker 11: firm says that the number one travel motivator why you
- 36:55Speaker 11: and your bride are going to go somewhere is yeah,
- 36:57Speaker 11: probably for a concert. Right, you'll go downtown for a concert,
- 37:00Speaker 11: but you're not just doing that most of the time.
- 37:02Speaker 11: You'll go get supper first, or there'll there'll be some
- 37:07Speaker 11: new art art display that's up at the Clay Center.
- 37:11Speaker 11: You'll do several things before you head back home. Lots
- 37:15Speaker 11: of things to see and do. Is the number one
- 37:18Speaker 11: travel motivator. Most people, when they're thinking, well, let's go downtown,
- 37:22Speaker 11: what they're going to say is what's going on? What
- 37:25Speaker 11: else is happening when we're there at this conference or
- 37:29Speaker 11: when we go see a show. So it's always the
- 37:31Speaker 11: number one travel motivator. So when people call our events
- 37:34Speaker 11: office and they say, you know, hey, what's going on
- 37:36Speaker 11: in Charleston. We don't want to have this when other
- 37:39Speaker 11: things are going on, we always say, you know, what
- 37:42Speaker 11: hang on, Let's let's.
- 37:44Speaker 3: See about that.
- 37:44Speaker 11: Because if folks are out and you can pull a
- 37:46Speaker 11: big crowd, you know, there's synergy, there's there's that opportunity
- 37:52Speaker 11: to get folks to come to your event. And again,
- 37:55Speaker 11: as as Tim said, this is our gear up mode.
- 37:58Speaker 11: We're you know, we're going to turn around and the
- 38:01Speaker 11: girls' basketball tournaments coming in, and the boys' basketball tournament's
- 38:04Speaker 11: coming in, and then and then we're literally off to
- 38:07Speaker 11: the races. I know you talked about the Great Race
- 38:08Speaker 11: coming in and USA Cycling and all there is to
- 38:11Speaker 11: see and do in Charleston. It's going to be packed.
- 38:14Speaker 11: But it is our time that we start stretching because
- 38:18Speaker 11: we work all the time. If you feel like there's
- 38:21Speaker 11: nothing to do in the city of Charleston, please call
- 38:23Speaker 11: us bilge you.

- 38:54Speaker 3: presenting your budget.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 11: I am working with our Director of Finance, Andy Wood,
- 38:59Speaker 11: who's just absolutely amazing. We are so incredibly fortunate in
- 39:02Speaker 11: the City of Charleston to have him on our team.
- 39:05Speaker 11: I'm going to be presenting one hundred and thirteen and
- 39:07Speaker 11: some change million dollar budget, and it's what it has
- 39:12Speaker 11: in there is our priorities. It's safety and health and
- 39:16Speaker 11: wellness and infrastructure. And two to take a to take
- 39:21Speaker 11: a page from Tim Brady's talking points, A vibrant city,
- 39:25Speaker 11: investing in our infrastructure, investing in our employees, uh, investing
- 39:31Speaker 11: in the roads that you travel on. Listen. It is
- 39:35Speaker 11: no secret that we had a very difficult winter, Dave.
- 39:40Speaker 11: And I can't imagine that there aren't people that are,
- 39:44Speaker 11: because I know they are in my office calling in, Hey,
- 39:47Speaker 11: there's a pothole here, there's a I need you to
- 39:50Speaker 11: pave this road. Absolutely, we are going to, yet again
- 39:54Speaker 11: for the sixth year in a row, keep up that
- 39:59Speaker 11: pay budget at over three million dollars, and for good reason,
- 40:03Speaker 11: because the roads this year took a beating and while
- 40:07Speaker 11: we really feel like we're trying to get ahead and
- 40:09Speaker 11: are paving, when you have a season like that, insulting
- 40:12Speaker 11: and scraping, uh, you're gonna have a lot of potholes
- 40:14Speaker 11: and we're trying to get there as fast as we
- 40:16Speaker 11: can with cold patching. Some roads will just need that,
- 40:21Speaker 11: but some roads will need to be completely uh paved
- 40:25Speaker 11: this year. And so we have a schedule, we have
- 40:28Speaker 11: a system that we work on. But you know what,
- 40:31Speaker 11: as I always say, three oh four three four eight
- 40:33Speaker 11: eight one seven four, call me, uh if there is
- 40:37Speaker 11: a challenge with the road or something you want us
- 40:39Speaker 11: to investigate, if we don't already know about it, and
- 40:41Speaker 11: chances are we probably do, Dave doesn't matter, Still call
- 40:44Speaker 11: me and let us know because we do keep a
- 40:46Speaker 11: running list of that. But what you'll see also in
- 40:49Speaker 11: the budget, does you know no taxes or fee increase
- 40:51Speaker 11: proposal and uh maintaining all of our critical city city
- 40:57Speaker 11: services as well, and something that I started just a
- 41:01Speaker 11: couple of years ago, getting our wages of our employees
- 41:06Speaker 11: who make the least up to that fifteen dollar mark.
- 41:09Speaker 11: I am extremely proud for the third year in a
- 41:11Speaker 11: row we've made that jump to get them there again.
- 41:15Speaker 3: With Charleston may Or Amy Shulver good one. Speaking of potholes, Yeah,
- 41:18Speaker 3: can the mayor Polae says a textra Can the mayor
- 41:20Speaker 3: please have can od Turnpike addressed? Driving it and dodging
- 41:24Speaker 3: the multiple potholes is like skiing a slalom course.
- 41:28Speaker 11: As always with any road condition that you see out
- 41:31Speaker 11: there that you want me to address and send her
- 41:33Speaker 11: our public works group please three four eight eight one
- 41:36Speaker 11: seven four, and especially if you have a specific if
- 41:40Speaker 11: you can give me a little bit more detail, a
- 41:42Speaker 11: little bit more guidance, that would be wonderful in city
- 41:44Speaker 11: and you know in city roads too. Let me go
- 41:47Speaker 11: ahead and be clear. But let me also say in
- 41:49Speaker 11: that same breath, Dave, nothing would frustrate me more or
- 41:53Speaker 11: any of our residents when they call about a road
- 41:55Speaker 11: and say there's a pothole. I hope you don't hear
- 41:59Speaker 11: from our folks, Well, that's a city road. We may
- 42:01Speaker 11: tell you, we may inform you that is a city
- 42:03Speaker 11: road or a state road. Excuse me, a state road,
- 42:05Speaker 11: not a city road. It's a state road. But if
- 42:08Speaker 11: it is in the city limits, let me know about it.
- 42:10Speaker 11: Of course, we've got a great relationship with the Department
- 42:13Speaker 11: of Highways in the state of West Virginia, and we
- 42:15Speaker 11: certainly want to take that information because if it's in
- 42:18Speaker 11: our thirty three square miles and it impacts you, we
- 42:20Speaker 11: should at least know about it.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Texas, please ask the mayor about the status of the
- 42:24Speaker 3: mccorkil Avenue rebuild project in Kanas City. The roadwork looks
- 42:28Speaker 3: like it's been completed, but portions of the sidewalk remained unfinished.
- 42:33Speaker 11: Thank you so much. As we work with the State
- 42:35Speaker 11: of West Virginia on that project, because that is a
- 42:38Speaker 11: State of West Virginia project, I understand I think maybe
- 42:42Speaker 11: from the language in that text, Dave, that there is
- 42:45Speaker 11: some frustration. I think that Council Members Robinson and Council
- 42:50Speaker 11: Member King also share in Councilwoman Burka share your concern
- 42:54Speaker 11: about that as well as we continue to work with
- 42:56Speaker 11: them to share our concerns. Because I I don't disagree
- 43:00Speaker 11: with you. I think there are some improvements that need
- 43:03Speaker 11: to be made with that state project.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Texas, Dave, please ask me a good one if she
- 43:07Speaker 3: has any knowledge of the schedule for painting the Washington
- 43:10Speaker 3: Street bridge. If not, would she checked with the doh
- 43:13Speaker 3: as to the schedule. Yeah, I do.
- 43:15Speaker 11: Actually, well I don't officially so if you want to
- 43:18Speaker 11: call me at three four eight eight one seven four,
- 43:21Speaker 11: but it is it is on the it's on the

- 45:56Speaker 11: Yeah, it is so interesting. Not a roller rink. But
- 45:58Speaker 11: actually we're working with an investment or from West Virginia
- 46:01Speaker 11: actually on that movie theater because nothing would please us
- 46:04Speaker 11: more than to get a theater back in that area Texas.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Does the mayor have any word about the town center
- 46:10Speaker 3: shutting its doors this summer?
- 46:12Speaker 11: No, I don't, but I will say that we have
- 46:16Speaker 11: been working hand in glove with a whole group, which
- 46:19Speaker 11: seems like that's the answer that I have given you
- 46:22Speaker 11: over the past couple of times. But oh, by the way,
- 46:25Speaker 11: something that began in the seventies that has seen its
- 46:29Speaker 11: demise at least in the past fifteen years. It takes
- 46:33Speaker 11: more than just a couple of years to turn it around.
- 46:36Speaker 11: So we've been working with the Hall Group and their
- 46:39Speaker 11: entities to see what we can do to move forward.
- 46:42Speaker 11: It's thirteen acres Dave that we want back in developable hands.
- 46:49Speaker 11: And if it's going to be the Hall Group, great,
- 46:51Speaker 11: If it's not, then what do we need to do
- 46:53Speaker 11: with with that space?
- 46:56Speaker 2: Is there?
- 46:56Speaker 3: And I don't want to shut the gun here. Is
- 46:59Speaker 3: there a possi stability that we could see a time
- 47:01Speaker 3: when maybe the whole group doesn't own the town Center?
- 47:03Speaker 11: Well, I mean I think that you know, I certainly
- 47:05Speaker 11: don't have a crystal ball or a magic wand because
- 47:08Speaker 11: if I did, it would be full and actually I'm
- 47:11Speaker 11: not sure that it even would be a mall. I'm
- 47:13Speaker 11: not sure that that is the model in which it
- 47:16Speaker 11: is right now. Let's just be clear, won't be in
- 47:19Speaker 11: the future. And by the way, that's okay. We want
- 47:22Speaker 11: it to change. Downtown malls are not where it's at anymore.
- 47:28Speaker 11: It is mixed use. And so as we have investigated
- 47:32Speaker 11: for years and continue to look at what is the
- 47:36Speaker 11: best and highest use for that property. Certainly having a
- 47:43Speaker 11: mall that is not filled is not it. It's in
- 47:47Speaker 11: the center of the city, and oh, by the way,
- 47:49Speaker 11: it's connected to some of our most critical assets. But
- 47:52Speaker 11: let me be clear about this. We're not sitting on
- 47:54Speaker 11: our hands. We're not just twiddling our thumbs. We are
- 47:58Speaker 11: working with them and others to see what is the
- 48:02Speaker 11: best and highest use for that property and how do
- 48:05Speaker 11: we move forward. Because folks, it's not going to be
- 48:07Speaker 11: a mall and one entity is not going to save it.
- 48:11Speaker 11: Bringing in a Dave and Busters is not going to
- 48:13Speaker 11: save a property. That's not my opinion. That is simply
- 48:18Speaker 11: a fact. It is a multi faceted investment approach and
- 48:22Speaker 11: development approach, and that's the direction that we're going in.
- 48:26Speaker 3: About to add about to double the city's population over
- 48:29Speaker 3: the next couple of weeks. With the girls and boys
- 48:31Speaker 3: State tournament now come in to.
- 48:33Speaker 11: Town next week, it's gonna be great. Lots of things
- 48:35Speaker 11: to celebrate, for sure, and lots of folks that are in.
- 48:39Speaker 11: I have some friends who are coming in. Their daughter's
- 48:41Speaker 11: playing and they're coming in and the first thing they
- 48:44Speaker 11: said was, Hey, you've got a lot of James Beard
- 48:47Speaker 11: chefs in town.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Don't you tell me where?
- 48:49Speaker 11: They literally said again, ready, Dave goes back to my point,
- 48:52Speaker 11: lots of things to see and do. Yeah, they're going
- 48:54Speaker 11: to be there for their daughter, but they're not going
- 48:56Speaker 11: to be there the entire time. And so let me also,
- 49:00Speaker 11: while I'm thinking about it, give a shout out to
- 49:02Speaker 11: chef Chase Collier. One week ago. He's with restaurant A Brewsy.
- 49:08Speaker 11: He'll be considered for the twenty twenty five James Beard Awards.
- 49:12Speaker 11: So you know, as we celebrate Chef Paul, we have
- 49:15Speaker 11: another chef here in the city of Charleston. We need
- 49:17Speaker 11: to be celebrating as well.
- 49:19Speaker 3: Texas has any municipal budget proposed under the current administration

- 49:27Speaker 3: time for doge r right, that's what Textra said.
- 49:31Speaker 11: That not mean that's right, that's right. Yeah, sure, I
- 49:33Speaker 11: will say this. We are extremely responsible with our funds.
- 49:36Speaker 11: And let me just go ahead and say this. When
- 49:40Speaker 11: I got here, our Rainy Day fund was less than
- 49:43Speaker 11: three million dollars. It is now at seventeen and a half.
- 49:48Speaker 11: So we are responsible and we are fiscally conservative with
- 49:51Speaker 11: our budgets. I can promise you that.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Tex says, the town Center will probably become a mixed
- 49:56Speaker 3: use with six to seven figure condos that West Virginians
- 49:59Speaker 3: can't afford. I don't know about that, but I will
- 50:02Speaker 3: say when I had Taro Ellis on a couple of
- 50:03Speaker 3: weeks ago, my buddy Rich the Reeltor was on last week.
- 50:06Speaker 3: There is a housing shortage, desperate, a desperate housing shortage.
- 50:10Speaker 3: And I don't know about you know, six to seven figures,
- 50:12Speaker 3: but there is a housing shortage well all over the canal.
- 50:14Speaker 11: Out I worked out somebody that I work out with
- 50:16Speaker 11: in the mornings. He put his house on the market
- 50:20Speaker 11: two weeks ago, a three bedroom home here in the
- 50:25Speaker 11: city of Charleston, three hundred and whatever you put in
- 50:28Speaker 11: on the market for. He got a heck of a
- 50:31Speaker 11: lot more and one showing one day. It's already in contract.
- 50:36Speaker 11: And so to be sure, there is a housing housing shortage, all.
- 50:40Speaker 3: Right, Tex says, what about a casino in Charleston. I
- 50:43Speaker 3: remember reading about that a couple of years ago.
- 50:45Speaker 11: Yeah, I think there is certainly a push for that.
- 50:49Speaker 11: There's been not only a push for that, but there's
- 50:51Speaker 11: also been a push for riverboat gaming as well. As
- 50:55Speaker 11: the elk and the canal. We meet right here at
- 50:58Speaker 11: the confluence of both of those things. But I'm not
- 51:01Speaker 11: a gamer. I like shoes too much to spend on gambling, TJ.
- 51:05Speaker 11: So that's what I what I that's what I do, TJ.
- 51:08Speaker 11: I like to spend my money on. And oh, by
- 51:11Speaker 11: the way, college tuition.
- 51:12Speaker 3: And give me give me about thirty seconds and then
- 51:16Speaker 3: we'll let you go on. When when can we expect
- 51:18Speaker 3: some Regatta announcements to come?
- 51:20Speaker 11: Thank you so much, so we're very excited. This year
- 51:23Speaker 11: is kind of weird how the days fall, but we
- 51:26Speaker 11: already have in contract to performers, and so we're very
- 51:29Speaker 11: excited to make those announcements in the next couple of weeks.
- 51:33Speaker 11: Let me before I turn it over to TJ and
- 51:35Speaker 11: get out of your hair. I promised that I would
- 51:37Speaker 11: do this this morning on the air. I think his
- 51:39Speaker 11: family is listening. Mister Julian Sackman turns one hundred and
- 51:43Speaker 11: two today, one hundred and two, So I wanted to
- 51:46Speaker 11: make sure that I give a big birthday shout out.
- 51:48Speaker 11: How lucky of a man and a life well lived,
- 51:51Speaker 11: and he's given so much to so many as a
- 51:53Speaker 11: public servant, serving in our military and a lifelong resident
- 51:57Speaker 11: in the city of Charleston.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Happy and believe to be the oldest living Marshall graduate.
- 52:01Speaker 13: Oh is that right?
- 52:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I've heard that at a martial event. Mayor.
- 52:05Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot. TJ. Quickly,
