- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody welcome to cheesy popcorn.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here with my good friend Chris Miles who is the exceptional host of I wouldn't go that far new.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm music row.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's your two kind though And of course, I'm joined by my good buddy, Antivar who is co-host on another show called can I call you dad?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, with my son Andrew and if you haven't watched that you should be watching it on the rise in that work
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because it's kind of interesting to watch the way a father and a son behave when there's cameras on.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the best part about it is this is the way things were at the dinner table.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I still really bad for every mom, Doris.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: I feel bad for Doris, because she had to put up with this every single.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, she didn't check.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Often get up and walk to the dining room with what would eat in the kitchen.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, she would get up and take her plate and walk to the dining room when we start doing too many movie lines at the table.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that was her escape.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: So that is the inspiration, part of the inspiration for the show is the fact that you guys used to do that as you did.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I have always been the kind of person that loves movie quotes.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: We got together and we were like, hey, let's do a podcast and well, that's what it is.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to GZ Popcorn right here on the Rise Network.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a minute since we've been sitting opposite of each other.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think the last time we did that, we talked about a big, bold, beautiful journey.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: The window movie as I like to call it.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: The door movie.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the deaths at the doors.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: But not the doors with nothing to do with the 70's super group.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple episodes ago, we promised that we were gonna do one battle after another.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then I literally had one battle after another.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of other personal issues, nothing major, just different events, high school wise, that came up that kind of kept me from,
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: being able to be here with you.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: So to speak.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: But we have a hit and we have a miss when it comes to the movie review for one battle after another.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I failed to see it.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because I got a little too busy.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you had family issues too.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: So well, yes, that can understand.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I got busy and other friends to few to Cisco did someone his own thing.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: We're okay.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess I won't be on myself too much.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, so we'll talk about one battle after another, which is a political thriller.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: We'll go over some other political thrillers that we enjoyed as well.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: Don't know if we're going to do like a runner-up best of kind of thing but just some other political thrillers in there because when we're having the conversation like I was like what is a political thriller?
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah it's kind of all over the place nowadays because there's movies that start out as just a thriller or an action film and but they throw some political stuff in there's and then you're like well this political or not.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: Right exactly and of course there's me who's always hoping that Michael Jackson's going to get involved here but anyway.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: me too.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: But so let's let's do what we normally do on the show and that's talk about the movies that are coming out this weekend.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, uh, Tron Ares Ron would would be the the the the other way to pronounce it, but I think it's just Ares, uh, which I'm kind of excited for.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in a fan of Tron since I think it's 83 if I remember correctly.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Russell was the first
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Was it Kurt Russell if that's all I didn't think it was Kurt Russell sure?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a really young Kurt Russell.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: I thought was the first it was in the very first run And I'm not so sure about that.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was Jeff Bridges.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Kurt Russell.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: There's the Kurt Russell place, John.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes Jeff Bridges is in it too Jeff Bridges plays the evil villain
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: No, he plays the other program.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the other programmer.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: Thought he was.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: You are right.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: I did forget about him.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's absolutely cool.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I could forget about Kurt Russell.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: He was, well, I don't know if he's still with, but he was with Goldie Han for so long.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I was so jealous for a long time.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: You think Kurt Russell was in it?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Kurt and Goldie were together for a long time.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, they absolutely were.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Kurt Russell was in Toronto.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think the guy that we're trying to think of is like Bill Bixby or something or Bill Paxton or something like that.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was in the original.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Bill Paxton was around with the original.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: I could be wrong, but was it any, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Jeff Pritches and Bruce boxlightner.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's in the original Tron movie.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: I knew of something was going to own up to my mistake That's all good.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, hey, we're human right, but this Tron is not piggybacking off of that Tron.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: They said correct.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a direct well actually technically We'd be piggybacking off of Tron legacy Oh, which was the second Tron movie that came right and this is supposed to piggyback off of that But technically they say it's not Jared Lettlestars in the movie and basically it's all about like AI
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: come and act you and like destroying your world.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: So it's the same premise of like the original trance sort of where the computer program somehow was able to influence the real world.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: But now he got, it's the same situation.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: He gets out and then like can actually affect the real world, which I think, if I remember correctly, they've never really, they've never been able to get out of.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, the program.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's a new original.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: They want to get out.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I don't think so, um, but yeah, that's coming into theaters this weekend as well as Soul on fire, which is kind of an interesting movie The premise on that one is John O'Leary story
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: begins with his maracas recovery from a near death accident when he was just three years old uh... and he's given a chance of survival john indoors an unbelievable road to recovery with the support of his family faith community and the kindness of his old-time idle baseball hall of famer
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: uh... whose name is escaping me for the moment uh... baseball homophobic jack buck jack buck yes yes uh... movie stars a Stephanie shot shot sack john corbit uh... and that's about it that's pretty good cast right there i don't know what do you thought about would you just said
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: you don't know.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: No, you're just on your, you're rolling out some cast members.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, but I mean, is it a movie that you would go see?
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's what I'm.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I know this one to be known.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: I could see other than what I've done as far as research is concerned.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I've seen a talk about the Dwayne Johnson movie, but you're, you're not a big fan of WW.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that already came out though.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it came out, but I thought we were going to try to.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, eventually maybe talk about it, so it's supposed to be a completely different role for the rock.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm, I don't like that whole cage fight stuff.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't see it as a sport personally, but I don't know.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: I like doing Johnson and I wouldn't mind going to go see him in a different kind of role.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: a more dramatic piece, a more dramatic, which is that was Elvis's only request.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to do dramatic roles in the Colonel Witton Letham.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, kept doing the music.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Except for King Creole.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: King Creole was a dramatic role for him.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he played it really well.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: But all the rest of him, of course, you know, girls, girls, girls, and like, fun and uncomfortable.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he hated those things.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: That sounds like a motley crew song.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it could be.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, one battle after another.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: So also coming out this week, though, another movie that we've been hinting at every so often because we mentioned chanting Tatum.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: Roofman, come to that.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Roofman, I want to see that.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: The eccentric thief, Jerry Manchester pulls off over 60 during McDonald's, Heists breaking in through rooftops and holding employees hostage.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: The funny thing is, is that I always thought that the clips that you saw in the previews is he's in to toys
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: he gets a job at a toys eros Oh, he's a hideout.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so he's hiding his hideout just steal from McDonald's.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: So supersize that one, eh?
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I worked from McDonald's Corporation.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: He used to film, they have an actual full McDonald's in their studios in Alcoville, where we'd film a lot.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: and uh... i work with the marketing of the studios and what's a studio but it's an actual McDonald's too they could fire up in sell and uh... so we had the marketing guys uh... we were talking about the new toys coming on stuff and one of the marketing guys we we wanted to film was seen where someone came up to the drive through and so we were goofing around and and his partner the marketing partner came up and he he walked he got a drop up to the window and he said uh...
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: uh... give me all your money to stick up well that the other marketing guy quick is like lightning and which cracked us all up said said no problem he wanted to apply with that
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: But also back in the grass, but it's funny.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: Also back in the day, they used to have these uh uh the odorizers called stick ups.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: You used to stick those in garbage cans.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I would have thought I'd been funny if you'd been like, yeah, sure.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Here you go.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a stick up.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, no.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: The funny thing was because they wanted to have a pilot.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: They don't do it anymore as often.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: They used to that was a requirement.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: You had to ask if you want to have a pilot, but there were two for a dollar back then.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think they still are too for a dollar.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, maybe they're a dollar a piece now.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was a funny start.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then aggressive.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Last but not the movie.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Last but not least, coming out this week, kiss of the spider woman, which I thought that came out in like 85 or something.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I remember a movie kiss of the spider woman.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Is this a remake?
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it feels like it.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: At the case of the Spider-Woman, it did come out in 85.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: And what's his heart and Raul Julia work?
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: Raul Julia.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sorry.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Julia.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: He was great.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: He was great in the Adam's family.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: And some other stuff too.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: He was some other stuff too.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was all the time.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: John Broadway.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: He was also in Street Fighter.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: Which was hilarious.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think he played Ambison.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: And he was also in, he was in a movie where he played a really weird general.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of the name of it now.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember that.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: He was a, I got to meet him if I digress one more time.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: I got to meet Raul and, uh, what a nice, I mean, it's one of those, you don't know what your person you admire is going to be like if there's celebrity.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: And this guy was exactly what I was hoping he would be, very welcoming, very nice, very accommodating, was when he was doing, um, man of La Mancha in Chicago.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: We had him on a show.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: You should do with Teresa Gaterra as on Channel 7.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: We had him on Latino actors kind of thing and he was just so gracious and so nice and and then you know he passed away Young which was sad, but great guy great actor So was this general movie that he was in after kiss of the spider woman so like an in 88 or something like that That had been he played a really weird presumed innocent.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, uh, not like a Marvel movie, but it was one of those, you know, the characters are really outlandish kind of movies.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Street Fighter was one of the movies that he was, and he played Embison.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: That was, Embison's like a general first Street Fighter.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that was it?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what you're thinking of.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: He blew hat, red outfit.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's Embison for Street Fighter.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: So kiss to the Spider Woman, the remake.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: we'll call it.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Features Jennifer Lopez, Bill Condon.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: And that's it.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody else that I Diego Luna.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it but it's a musical that was like I think it was really big and Broadway back in the day.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's also a novel.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: as well.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's a story of a interesting Argentina prisoner in 1981 Luis Molina.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Who is a gay hairdresser.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: It forms an unusual bond.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's unusual for a hairdresser.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: You right?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: To be gay?
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: You're a hairdo.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: Find a gay one.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's rare.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Who is a Marxist?
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: Balantine Arrego?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Did I say that right?
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, probably.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Pause.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, well, earning a eight year sense while serving an eight year sentence.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Um, anyway, if you only think about kiss to the spider woman, it is a musical.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, take that with a grain of salt.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Jennifer Lopez is in it.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: She is a fairly fairly decent singer.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, who knows?
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm over J. Low.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Jaila.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: So we're a lot of other people.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, you're a lot of people who are red right.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I am kind of done with Jaila.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: She had made some good movies that I enjoyed, but I don't know.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm over talking about Kiss of a Spider-Woman.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to go see it, go see it.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's the stuff for this week.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Tron Aries, Solon Fire, Roofman, Kiss of the Spider-Woman, and then the smashing machine.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think is the name of the movie that we were talking about.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: So what are we going to preview?
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, let's do smashing machine, and then maybe we can, you know, we'll figure out what the next one is, but then that way we can also, next week, we'll talk about our favorite sports films as you do the smashing machines.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: We should be.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think smashing machine is more of a human.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: evolution movie, then it is a fight movie, and no there's fighting in it.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I think they're saying it's a new role for the rock.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Although I really like them in walking tall too.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: That, you know, actually when I make, when he was in that movie, I was like, oh yeah, I forgot, like wrestling's acting.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like,
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you forget about that like when you watch it like back in the the age of aggression is the aggression of the era I think they called it in WWE I think it was it started.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: It was WWE off back then and then it had to go WWE and I think that was by 2000 or some like that I don't remember the exact it's but anyway
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but yeah, that's where you got to start and some great promos and stuff like that.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up in the rock, um, you know, Duane Johnson, uh, from watching from the wrestling stuff.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just great to see him, you know, branch out and do his thing.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: John Cena's trying to do it as well, too.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, not as successful, but you know, he's got peacemaker, which is a thing for DC fans and speaking of DC, we're going to talk about a movie that features some that is from DC as well, too.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of movies, let's talk about one battle after another, or what, why don't you talk about it after another?
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was gonna say, I can't believe that that movie was almost three hours long.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was long.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was two hours and forty some minutes.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was longer than it needed to be.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I thought.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, good.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was okay.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I didn't want to leave the theater at any point, but I didn't want to be at the theater for some of it.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: And Leonardo did a okay job.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: The young lady I can't think of who it is who plays his daughter, did a real nice job.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: There's some other characters in there that are really good.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: Sean Penn seems like he came out of retirement to come out and do a role that is maybe the most confusing role I've ever seen any actor do without giving away a lot of the plot because if you want to go see it, I don't want to give it away for you, but
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: Sean Pan is a general in the army who was assigned to go after some political revolutionists one of which is Leonardo DiCaprio and another one of which is a and I don't I actually don't know this actress named she's an African-American woman who played the brilliant role in this if she did a real good job.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Regina Hall could be.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't we can't do it.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so Regina Hall paid DeAndre.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's who you're talking about.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the other actress is Tiana Taylor, maybe?
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: But he throws it up for Dea.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Sean.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sean Penn.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: Falls in love with her.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: And there's an inkling to maybe they had a baby together, but you don't really ever know.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: And on the other side of that coin, he is invited to join a very radical racist organization that's hunting down these revolutionists.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, well, which one are you?
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm using back and forth between the two and you're like, okay, which Sean Penn is this?
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the guy that likes the black girl?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the guy that hates all people of color?
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: So it was real confusing there.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of went in like a lot of different directions.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's weird because they look like they wanted to try to make it a comedic thriller.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: And there's like a hint of comedy, there's one character that actually keeps the funny going.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: I won't tell you who it is because I don't want to give it away, but there are actually there's two characters that keep the funny going.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: The rest of the characters, it's a straight-up serious role for them.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a, I'd give it like a seven out of ten, I probably would never watch it again personally.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I think people would, if they, if you likely in Ardo, you'll like it, is in there if you like.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: The other guy that's in there is the guy that plays Venicio de Toro.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: No, Benny's the other total he's yeah, and he's just Benny's the other little total and everything.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when he it's a scene, he just steals the screen.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, now the guy tests so much presence, you know, it's like it's crazy.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the Pope walking in the room.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: Your eyes eyes go to him.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Benny's he always just, you know, he's amazing.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's so underrated in my opinion.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: I would agree.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's in a scene with Sean Penn and he's just, you can't even look at Sean Penn.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: because you're just mesmerized by a piece of you.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my stick on that.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: But go see it, I didn't say it was a bad movie.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: I just said I wouldn't want it again.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: and there you have it and there you have it so there you go uh... beneath you of course uh... did a little stint in marvel too as a matter of fact so uh... but i was trying to remember the movie that i said i think traffic was the first movie that i said and he was good in that uh... he was in big top p.y.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: i didn't know that i didn't i was in that he was also in license to kill who yes interesting
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, great role in Lysus to kill yeah, but I think traffic is the movie that I saw him in that was what made me go.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, this guy's this guy's pretty good.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or maybe.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the fan.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him in the fan too.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: I like that one.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's not in no country for old men.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's not been easier, right?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's the other game.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think it takes your takes your eyes off everybody else.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: I forget I forget that forget his name.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: I saw that movie.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: I saw that movie because somebody else wanted to see it.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great movie.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: And then the way that it is, it's a totally odd movie.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's great.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: It works at every level.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it, it's seen with the kids in the bike.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: It all works.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: A happier, bar, bar dean.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: A happier, bar dean.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: And timely Jones is in that.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Can't remember who the young kid is.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's still the money.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: uh he's he's he more well known now but I can't think it was name but uh it's it's good movie Are you gonna get it?
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: Dolla Hunt could be could be because the only other guys that are in her what do you Harrison and Josh Brolin
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Brolin, Josh Brolin is the one who finds the money, and that's why he's our viewers looking for him to get the money back.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: I had spent a long time since I've seen that movie, but it's okay.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the movie I'd watch again.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, here's the good thing about this.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: So, I...
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: was very skeptical about this movie in the first place.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then when I saw that it was almost three hours long, I was like, are you kidding me?
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the previous made me go, this could be interesting.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: As I watched more and more and as I started to read stuff I was kind of like, I don't know if this is going to be like, that it just seemed like it was too long.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know like, Oppenheimer, you know, way too long.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right, exactly.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: And as I've gotten older and maybe it's just maybe that's just the thing.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: I've realized that if a movie is more than two and a half hours, I'm done.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: And when listen moves quick, I mean, there are movies that a godfather too is long, but it works, go on with the wind is long, but it works.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: But those are movies, so those are classics, right?
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: Those are movies that have stood the test of time.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, for sure, the writing back then was different.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's not the same as much as it is, you know?
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: And what's what we talked about in one episode,
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then the actor became the character.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, right.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Now they're writing a movie for the, so that that actor can still be him, like Tom Cruise, his Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, as a little bit more range.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: But Tom Hanks is kind of Tom Hanks.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: They write movies now with the actor and mind who's going to play it as opposed to Rod Steiger, you know, De Nero, Brando, they became the character, even Robin Williams.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: And Mrs. Daufeier, Dustin Hoffman and Tutsi.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, when we were talking about Tootsie the next day at work, we weren't talking about Dustin Hoffman.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: We were talking about Tootsie.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, people were talking about, did you see what Tootsie did this and so that's what an actor supposed to do.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I suppose to be at the water cooler talking about what Tom Cruise did.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: You suppose to be talking about Ethan Hunt and it kind of doesn't work that way now.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's very couple that have, but that's not a lot.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's why so I think I think we can both agree one battle after another would be one of those you see it once You know, probably never gonna see it again.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you probably better to wait till it's at home.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, at least You know, there's it's got a lot of fun action scenes which are nice on a big screen.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh So that's a bonus.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you if you I got in for six bucks if you can get in for under six It's worth going to the theater in my opinion.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll take that.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's worth going to see it for under six bucks.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's the official review.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: On, uh, we just don't want to start not rating them one at a time, which is starting my private monetary value.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a six dollar move.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: What would you pay it is?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: What would we pay to see a movie?
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we're going to start doing.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's a little bit better.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: What would we pay to see a movie?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: I still think we need to say like what we, you know, we give it up whatever out of ten or whatever, but I think yeah, I think the money.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's a six dollar movie.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of $6 movies, let's talk about this interesting topic or subgenre that they have put one battle after another under.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now, they did call it a dark comedy, they also called it a drama, but they called it a political thriller.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: And that kind of started the conversation between you and I about like all these subgenres that come out and what they mean by that.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I put the challenge out there to say, okay, well, let's come up with a couple of political thriller movies that we both like.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: and let's kind of compare them to one battle after another.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Now I can't really compare because I didn't see the movie, but as I was reading through the storyline and the way that things go, the synopsis, so to speak, I was kind of like, okay, so this could be
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: in a roundabout sort of way and by roundabout I mean completely 180 degree this could be like the born identity but not necessarily where this guy's like a super powered you know or a super skilled individual right but on the flip side of that he could be like a super skilled like vigilante so to speak
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought the born identity was a great political thriller.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: There's a ton of stuff in there, a couple of like even sequels after that.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: The first three, I would say are the ones you need to see.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: After that, I think it starts to lose its lustre a little bit.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if it's because Matt Damon's not in anymore, although I know there was somebody else who took over the role and I actually enjoyed that person as born as well.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was by movie four, if I remember correctly.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Could be.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so what would you like in Mr. Well, you know, it's kind of hard to put it into a political thriller genre really.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: It was kind of more, like if I had a compare to one of the movie, I would probably compare it more to Ronin with Robert De Nero.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's like a plot that goes there, and that's a political, that's a political throne that they're trying to get, and that that shake case, the Irish Republic is trying to get an that that shake case from a guy that contains a bomb that they're going to use to, you know, free Ireland, so to speak.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: And Robert De Nero is kind of like the Leonardo the Capriol guy, because there's a couple of times when they try to kill him.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what they're trying to do in this movie.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: And of course he out with everybody.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so it kind of is kind of like that.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: Roman was better.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: Roman is one of my favorite De Nero movies.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you've never seen it, you got to see it.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen Ronan.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: Ronan is a good movie.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: I really enjoy that movie.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's a movie that I'd watch.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'd watch that over and over.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'd watch that over and over.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: So go back to tonight.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, OK.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: I will be going to bed tonight.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, the born legacy, that's the first movie that did not feature Matt Damon as born.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Jeremy Renner was in it as Aaron Cross and I you know I like him.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: This was of course before he got famous as Hawkeh But I was kind of like this guys this guy's good.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think this was like one of the first movies He was in if I remember correctly.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna have to look that one.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: I like Jeremy Renner.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so but anyway, I digress So okay, so you're gonna pick Ronin.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I also think it's got a little bit of V from Rhundetta.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, too as well
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned that.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen that movie, but the way you described it.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I could see that easily.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: Veefe Vendetta is more of a political movie, though.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's set in the future, and it's about an average citizen of the United Kingdom who is basically under the rule of the fascist and tyrannical.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Where is the endorsed fire party?
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: Right, exactly.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: If I remember correctly, Veefe Vendetta was a DC comic.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: yes at one point that is correct um and the funny thing i i'm not the funny thing but the thing that i love about this movie is that there was this quote so to speak that always went with it the tagline remember remember the fifth and november the gunpowder treason and plot
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: I know for no reason why the gunpowder treason should never be forgotten.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get stuff like that much anymore, and that's really good writing.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: And again, it is a DC Comics Virgo Vertigo and Silver Pictures production.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it was also a Vertigo comic as well.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just...
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a great movie, you were very interested in the fact that one Natalie Portman stars in the film as well as, Hugo, he's a black swan fame.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there you go.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hugo weaving is in it, although you don't really ever get to see him because he plays V, so he's the guy behind the mask.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's some other great actors in here as well too, Rupert Graves is in it.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he's good.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so if you know, there's a lot of British actors in this movie because it's got that, you know, United Kingdom feel to it.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say go see V for Vendetta if you haven't seen it, not go see it, but, you know, see it.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: And as we were talking about, unfortunately, it's not available anywhere that you can watch for free.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe at the library.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: So check your local library and see if they have it, and if they don't, they probably can get it for you from another library.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: So watch one battle after another, and then watch V for V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, do you have better, more better, but do you have another political thriller that you'd like to recommend maybe?
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was trying to figure out what goes with one bad left or nothing.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't really think of any other political thriller that does.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: I like political thrill as a lot.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: Pelican brief, you know, it's a great political thriller.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome with Denzel and Julie Roberts.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: Not a big Julie Roberts fan, but that was a good movie.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: And why are you not a big Julie Roberts fan?
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: It just And there I have it, right?
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's the laugh, really.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: It is the laugh that I think you do with her and her co-stars?
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, not at all.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's the light.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: She has that laugh in every single movie.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: That rumor that you were talking about.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: I never came up with any rumors about Julia Roberts.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: Her brother, Eric.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: Eric is a different story.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: He is from a different breed for sure.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the audience for Dancing With The Stars last night.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, was he really?
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Tuesday night.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'd notice I'm like, that's here at Cropards, because we was one of celebrities at one time.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the show.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and he got even off pretty quick.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm looking.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, why is he in the audience for this show?
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: Unless he's close to somebody there.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I was like, hmm, that's her grab boots.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he might have maybe he was there to support one of the other actors.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm saying.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he was there for Andy Richter.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: Good be for Andy Richter.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's still on there.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe Andy Richter.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why he's there.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: But you know who's, you know, who is absolutely amazing?
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: Irvine's kid or Irving's kid?
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: The crocodile hunter.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the crocodile hunter.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's good.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: So is the pinga.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, to pink is good.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: She is good.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: So is the girl who was Biles I think right isn't she but there was a the my wife is very upset about not by the other girl from from the gymnastics team Oh, she down that that's who that is okay.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: She's from the gym.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember her name right now There was a I can't think of her name, but she was she dance last night Beautiful dance should have been nine's or ten's they got eight's
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then they got knocked out, and that my wife gets really emotional with that show.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, she's yelling at the TV.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: So the 16-year-old in our house is the dancer, and she follows the show like no other.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been to a couple of the tours.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's right.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we went to one.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: uh... uh... the rules about theater a halena bald one is one who got kicked off and according to what she's been saying halena has been saying some very naughty bat not naughty but some very negative things that's what i'm saying negative things about the other cast members uh... like spreading rumors and stuff like that and that's why she got kicked off although she did do a nod to star wars
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: which I'm interested to see because I didn't see it.
