- 0:04Speaker 1: Fridgie and the Chod. Final weekend of the Australian Open
- 0:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. Much excitement in the air. Huge match
- 0:12Speaker 1: is happening all weekend. Let's check in with the Chod
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the Tennis FM traffic chopper. How's it out there,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Thanks Fridgie.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The chad man in the sky almost didn't fit in
- 0:24Speaker 2: the chopper. That's how wide I am up here. And
- 0:26Speaker 2: let me tell you, it is crazy out there at
- 0:29Speaker 2: the Australian Open. I'm looking down and he's bumping a bumper.
- 0:31Speaker 2: No doubt they're all here gearing up for the big event.
- 0:34Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Peggy Goo is playing tomorrow at at Bargart Court, one
- 0:39Speaker 2: of the courts. I can't tell. I'm so far up
- 0:41Speaker 2: in the chopper. No vibe is electric piper hot sick
- 0:44Speaker 2: flowing through the goddamn arenas.
- 0:48Speaker 1: All right, that's enough from the choad.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'm still up here.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I know here for five hours.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You're gonna let me talk.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm in ball please, all right, thank you? Reggie. Oh Chad,
- 1:00Speaker 1: gotta get the bear back. The bear will be back
- 1:02Speaker 1: hopefully soon. That's Lizzy chowed out before we check in
- 1:08Speaker 1: with what's happening in Hollyweird. Let's play our hit song
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the day.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Show me Perfectennis this stuff?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Oh no way, Oh Carlitos, he's got cramps again.
- 1:23Speaker 4: My mind?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Just how did he get through? Sasha Zverev looks like
- 1:28Speaker 1: he chokes again, my mind.
- 1:31Speaker 2: That's some Spanish fortitude.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Verrev is broken hearted Australia.
- 1:39Speaker 2: He has departed my mind.
- 1:43Speaker 1: What a five said?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Epic though, Oh Calitos, there is a little catch my
- 1:49Speaker 2: my no back one the other match ravo. Oh my god, god,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I hope Choud got that up in the choppa because.
- 1:59Speaker 1: That was good, wasn't it. That was amazing stuff. Our
- 2:03Speaker 1: producer said, ABBA's gonna sue us.
- 2:05Speaker 2: But Abba wouldn't do that. No, surely ABBA's enjoying the
- 2:09Speaker 2: spectacle of the Australian Opening, what we're bringing to it.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, they're huge PLA fans.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I cannot imagine that they're not. Mike what, Oh
- 2:19Speaker 2: my god, I can't even like I'm still buzzing. I'm buzzing,
- 2:22Speaker 2: but you're buzzing from the piper hide. Sick. I'm buzzing
- 2:24Speaker 2: from the piper hide. Sick. I'm buzzing from.
- 2:26Speaker 1: The Choppa ride as always.
- 2:28Speaker 2: B rating from the chopper, vibrating from something else.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Let me tell you, as always, our sponsor is Piper
- 2:35Speaker 1: Hide sick. Guzzle it up, your thirsty jerks. Ah, you're
- 2:41Speaker 1: not fully sick unless you're piper Hide sick. We're just
- 2:51Speaker 1: excited to the adrenaline is still going. I stayed up
- 2:54Speaker 1: watched the second man semi final, so I didn't get
- 2:58Speaker 1: to bed until about three am.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It's crazy, It's crazy. It was fully sick. Yesterday we
- 3:03Speaker 2: went to piper Heads. It was fully piper hype. We
- 3:06Speaker 2: went to watch what can only be described I think
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm not exaggerating here, one of the greatest sporting events
- 3:12Speaker 2: that I've witnessed live like that. Five said. It was
- 3:15Speaker 2: exhausting at the end, Like I felt like everyone was
- 3:18Speaker 2: like we.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Were cramping up.
- 3:20Speaker 2: We were cramping just watching it. I called the video
- 3:23Speaker 2: to look at my groin as well.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I was like, get up here, that's prime growing time.
- 3:28Speaker 1: We should say. You're talking, of course about the first time.
- 3:31Speaker 1: The Alkorazverev match, absolute epic. It's the tournament is back.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I mean, we talked about it yesterday. It was like,
- 3:40Speaker 2: would you, in like a hypothetical world, would you trade
- 3:43Speaker 2: some dull matches for some absolute historical kind of events
- 3:48Speaker 2: that will be talked about for years to come. And
- 3:50Speaker 2: I can say yes is the answer that was all
- 3:53Speaker 2: worth it?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Like what to day. I know we were there at
- 3:56Speaker 1: the Alcorazverev match where we have we were Oh my god,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I have to say that it was looking like it
- 4:06Speaker 1: was going to five sets. Yes, Sam Tong and I
- 4:10Speaker 1: sitting in primo media seeds.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's crazy how good the media seeds. I've been joking
- 4:14Speaker 2: this week, being like can I get tickets? Just turns
- 4:16Speaker 2: out I can get tickets for you, for me, just
- 4:19Speaker 2: for me.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:20Speaker 2: But they're like as good as it gets in the
- 4:22Speaker 2: media section. There is one catch though, you can't really
- 4:26Speaker 2: show crazy amounts of emotion.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You're meant to be impartial, unbiased.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, we're surrounded by people with like laptops tweeting to
- 4:32Speaker 2: world feeds in languages we don't understand. Yeah, and it's hard.
- 4:35Speaker 2: It is really hard to hold it in.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Oh when we did not No, we're high five and
- 4:42Speaker 1: we're jumping around.
- 4:43Speaker 2: It's crazy of there.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It was like the most roller coaster of a match
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think I've ever well.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so different to some of those other five
- 4:51Speaker 2: said epics, even the Sinner Novak match potentially, where it's
- 4:55Speaker 2: like you can kind of get a grip on what's
- 4:57Speaker 2: going on. But there were points in that first semi
- 5:01Speaker 2: final where I was like, I truly don't know what's
- 5:03Speaker 2: going on right now. Carlos wasn't running. It's like, is
- 5:06Speaker 2: he is he tanking on purpose? Is he just kind
- 5:09Speaker 2: of being like part of me thinks he was like,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I'll just lose the next two sets, let myself recover,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and then I'm going to try to take it in
- 5:15Speaker 2: the fifth. It was hard to know what was going on. Yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 2: I mean the momentum shift as well, like all of
- 5:21Speaker 2: a sudden, they're playing the best tennis you've ever seen,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and then it's just horrific tennis. In points.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Well, it was a beguiling match.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Beguiling I don't know what that would mean. But you've
- 5:30Speaker 2: never been beguiled, not really, no, is it? I think
- 5:34Speaker 2: you were beguiled yesterday I was beguiling.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Well, there's a lot to talk about here.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was going to say the most beguiling thing for
- 5:41Speaker 1: me of the day was that when you leaned over
- 5:44Speaker 1: to me during the four set and you said, if
- 5:46Speaker 1: this goes to five, I think I got a bounce
- 5:48Speaker 1: because I got to go have dinner with my girlfriend.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but I said it more like this, I said,
- 5:53Speaker 2: with my girl friend. My girlfriend. No, so I because
- 6:01Speaker 2: of Kalitos taking quite a lot of time really winding
- 6:05Speaker 2: down that clock before every serve. You know, we were
- 6:08Speaker 2: looking there was some time spent. I'm just a man
- 6:11Speaker 2: here trying to organize my day scheduling. I hadn't really
- 6:14Speaker 2: spoken to my partner, and then I was looking at
- 6:16Speaker 2: the time and I'm like, I guess I got to go.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I kind of thought he might win the fourth. And
- 6:20Speaker 2: then as soon as you said are you you were like,
- 6:23Speaker 2: what the You started swearing at me and you were
- 6:26Speaker 2: like the other journalists looked around. They were like, God,
- 6:28Speaker 2: who do these guys work for? They're not very professional,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and you're like.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Well, someone literally asked us, who do you work for?
- 6:33Speaker 6: Oh?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll get to that, but I want
- 6:35Speaker 1: you to justify.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Just as soon as you said it was like one
- 6:38Speaker 2: of those moments of clarity that people not an epiphany,
- 6:42Speaker 2: but it was close to it. When you were like,
- 6:43Speaker 2: we're watching a semi final of a Grand Slam that's
- 6:46Speaker 2: about to go to five sets between two of the
- 6:49Speaker 2: best play Potentially we're looking at one of the all
- 6:51Speaker 2: time grades as well. We don't know where he's going
- 6:52Speaker 2: to get to and you've got to go to dinner
- 6:55Speaker 2: with your girl with your girl friend. And then I
- 6:58Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, Yeah, what the hell are
- 7:00Speaker 2: you talking about?
- 7:00Speaker 1: The girlfriend who you live with, who you see every day,
- 7:03Speaker 1: So a meal with her is just come on, it's
- 7:05Speaker 1: going to be boring.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I texted her and I'm like, I'm staying
- 7:08Speaker 2: for the fifth and she was like, of course, absolutely.
- 7:10Speaker 2: She was like, we're not going to dinner. She wasn't
- 7:12Speaker 2: in any like. She wasn't. We were going to meet
- 7:15Speaker 2: at a restaurant. She wasn't. She was like, no, I'm
- 7:16Speaker 2: at home, you're watching the tenant. She I don't know
- 7:19Speaker 2: where I was. Maybe my I was having growing issues
- 7:22Speaker 2: as well. I needed as well. But it was a
- 7:25Speaker 2: one little lap. But you know what it's like out there,
- 7:27Speaker 2: Like we were in those seats for four hours and
- 7:30Speaker 2: you kind of yeah, we were working, you know, there
- 7:34Speaker 2: was a bit of work. We have to work. It's
- 7:36Speaker 2: crazy have.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We we're writing a song a day.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I mean you, I'm not putting a lot of work
- 7:46Speaker 2: into the song. It's mainly you.
- 7:47Speaker 1: It told me thank you. I wanted I was just
- 7:49Speaker 1: wanted that credit. But you know, you go, you do
- 7:53Speaker 1: the long then it's time.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah, then it's me. No, then it's errol ates man
- 7:57Speaker 2: as well. You go a bit loopy, you go a
- 7:59Speaker 2: bit lou It's.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So hard to sit out there and enjoy tennis with
- 8:03Speaker 1: one of your good friends, isn't.
- 8:04Speaker 2: It in some of the best seats of the world,
- 8:06Speaker 2: because it's like where the media seeds are. I don't know,
- 8:09Speaker 2: all around us. The only way I can describe the
- 8:12Speaker 2: majority of the people around us. It's not all of them,
- 8:14Speaker 2: but are like older white people, a lot of the
- 8:18Speaker 2: people are, which suggests to us the ticket price for
- 8:20Speaker 2: the tickets around where the media seats are very expensive.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yeah, very expensive, very expensive.
- 8:26Speaker 2: So you've got to say we're lucky ducks.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah. And I'm glad that you have some appreciation and
- 8:32Speaker 1: gratitude because I say, because it was just the I
- 8:36Speaker 1: was so insulted at the thought of you going that
- 8:39Speaker 1: like then throughout the fifth set, whenever there is you're.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Still getting annoyed. Yes, you do. Turn to me being
- 8:46Speaker 2: like you're then trying to think of like fun little
- 8:48Speaker 2: like foods, yeah, foods Like you were like, oh, you
- 8:51Speaker 2: could be starting your entree now, and I'm like, and
- 8:54Speaker 2: you like, imagine your side Salid, I'm like, shut the
- 8:57Speaker 2: hell up, all right, I was going, yeah, you could
- 8:59Speaker 2: be just save to break point. I don't have time
- 9:01Speaker 2: to worry about your little clever food that you can
- 9:04Speaker 2: cutting in your head.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Swinning over going. You could be having corn on the car, yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and hearing about your girlfriend's day.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 2: But that's when I like, I snapped at that. I
- 9:12Speaker 2: was like, is if we get corn on the cob?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Actually made me insane? Like you think I'm going to
- 9:16Speaker 2: eat corn on the cob on a Friday night?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Who knows your decision making is.
- 9:21Speaker 2: It was all off. It was all off. To be fair,
- 9:23Speaker 2: it was all off. But I'm so glad. I stated
- 9:27Speaker 2: it was one of the great experiences at that The
- 9:30Speaker 2: The final point was it was like an experience I've
- 9:34Speaker 2: never had it a sporting event. Just everyone stood up.
- 9:38Speaker 2: The media section stood up and just like.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Applauded flying and the yeah yeah people were thrown their
- 9:44Speaker 1: laptops like it was the graduation hat.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, totally iPads just taking out. People rose in front
- 9:50Speaker 2: of us.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get into the weeds of the match in
- 9:53Speaker 1: a second.
- 9:54Speaker 2: How are we going to do this, because I feel
- 9:55Speaker 2: like we've come in so excited, just being like.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But this is what the people want, this is what
- 10:03Speaker 1: people want.
- 10:03Speaker 3: What people want.
- 10:06Speaker 1: There was a lady sitting in front of us, obviously
- 10:09Speaker 1: in paid top dollar, paid to and she was said
- 10:11Speaker 1: she was having a good time.
- 10:12Speaker 2: She was having a great time.
- 10:14Speaker 1: But at one point she turned around to us, looked
- 10:17Speaker 1: at our media seats and badges and said, who do
- 10:20Speaker 1: you guys work for?
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and not like impressed, not like, oh my god,
- 10:24Speaker 2: who do you guys work for?
- 10:25Speaker 6: This?
- 10:25Speaker 2: She was like who do you work for? And then
- 10:29Speaker 2: did you say the tutor?
- 10:32Speaker 1: She said?
- 10:32Speaker 5: Is it?
- 10:33Speaker 1: She goes it can't be anything serious? Yeah, and then
- 10:36Speaker 1: she was I think. I was like, oh, yeah, like
- 10:38Speaker 1: the Tudor Advocates.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Which is like a satirical newspaper. It's like the Onion
- 10:43Speaker 2: or something. I said Nickelodeon. I wanted her to think
- 10:45Speaker 2: we were like kids TV hosts or something that it
- 10:48Speaker 2: just stumbled our way in. Well, she was. She also
- 10:51Speaker 2: did something incredibly annoying. I don't know if you've ever
- 10:55Speaker 2: had this before. She had quite long, flowing hair, quite
- 10:58Speaker 2: nice hair.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Really this is creepy.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Now, Well, no, I'm just saying, like, I'm sure she
- 11:01Speaker 2: was proud of her hair. But yeah, I mean, fair
- 11:05Speaker 2: to take chowed Violet. But she would like, let this
- 11:12Speaker 2: is actually so annoying. She would like, she's in the
- 11:14Speaker 2: seat in front of me, her long hair, she would
- 11:16Speaker 2: have she had it out the back, over the back
- 11:19Speaker 2: of her seat, so it's just on my knees at
- 11:21Speaker 2: all time. I'm like squirming around trying to get the
- 11:24Speaker 2: hair off me. You were in little shorts, so it
- 11:26Speaker 2: was tiny shorts. It's like there was more. There was
- 11:29Speaker 2: so much hair on me. It looked like I had
- 11:31Speaker 2: a small dog on my lap. That's how much hair
- 11:33Speaker 2: was just flowing all. She did apologize one and then,
- 11:35Speaker 2: but then the apology was like it's she was apologizing
- 11:39Speaker 2: for the rest of the match. That's what it seemed like,
- 11:41Speaker 2: because then there was hair everywhere.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Oh, the apology then she thought, gave her like.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Free rein to let the hair go everywhere.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Also, we're halfway through the fifth set, she's been very vocal.
- 11:52Speaker 2: She's standing up. I don't know who she's going for.
- 11:54Speaker 2: She's cheering points for everyone, cheering, going crazy. Halfway through
- 11:57Speaker 2: the full set, just gets I'm like, look looking at her,
- 12:00Speaker 2: she gets TikTok. I've just starts having a scroll.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and she was. I don't know if you saw it,
- 12:05Speaker 1: because I kept. You know when someone's sitting in front
- 12:06Speaker 1: of you and you start looking at everything they're looking at.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:10Speaker 1: She was watching highlights from the Medvedev Nadol match great
- 12:15Speaker 1: final from which is an awesome match. Yeah, but this
- 12:19Speaker 1: match is written for us, like we're looking at another
- 12:21Speaker 1: all time grace.
- 12:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:22Speaker 2: People need to stay in the present. A guy she
- 12:24Speaker 2: was with two seats down, he was He had an
- 12:27Speaker 2: ear piece in and I think he was listening to commentary.
- 12:30Speaker 2: He was doing what I can only describe as one
- 12:32Speaker 2: of the most annoying traits.
- 12:32Speaker 1: He would do it.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Okay, no wonder. He had that horrible look on his face.
- 12:40Speaker 2: He had his fifth clenched a few times. He was clenchy,
- 12:44Speaker 2: but every time a ball would go out he would
- 12:46Speaker 2: just yell out. It's like, brother, we've got umpires out there,
- 12:51Speaker 2: We've got the good folk there at Chubb doing close calls,
- 12:53Speaker 2: like close calls like we don't need him to go.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Out yeah let well no, no, no, he I mean again,
- 13:01Speaker 1: emotion overcoming everybody. He hated alert.
- 13:06Speaker 2: He did hate at more than do you think he
- 13:09Speaker 2: didn't know what a let was? I think because he
- 13:12Speaker 2: would be like he would actually make that noise and
- 13:15Speaker 2: then like hold his face on a first serve flet.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It got it well, I mean speaking on the serves,
- 13:23Speaker 1: it got hard for observe if you missed a first serve.
- 13:26Speaker 1: People were so on Alcoraz's side. There was one guy
- 13:29Speaker 1: that kept going.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, and couldn't hold it in, and it would
- 13:33Speaker 2: get so much laughter from the crowd because it felt
- 13:36Speaker 2: so real and you could feel like, I don't know
- 13:39Speaker 2: what the crowd split was, maybe eighty twenty outcrowds, maybe
- 13:42Speaker 2: more even I don't know. It was kind of quite amazing.
- 13:44Speaker 2: But he would go yes and you could just feel
- 13:47Speaker 2: big everyone to feel like that's what I was thinking too. Yes, Yes,
- 13:52Speaker 2: it was amazing. The Spanish support was something was like
- 13:55Speaker 2: it was unbelievable. All these Spanish flags, people, people, and
- 13:58Speaker 2: they kind of, I feel like, started getting him pumped up.
- 14:01Speaker 2: He was just standing there like fist clenched. Alcaraz, this
- 14:04Speaker 2: is looking at the crowd and people would stand up.
- 14:06Speaker 2: This is only to hold serve.
- 14:08Speaker 3: The time.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Man, it was amazing how how liked and likable Alcoraz
- 14:12Speaker 1: is that he can hold serve and pump his fists
- 14:16Speaker 1: in the air and get the crowd totally behind him.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And the other player does that, You're like, what a
- 14:20Speaker 1: dick he just held serve.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I totally yeah, and that's gotta be Look at times
- 14:24Speaker 2: I thought maybe it pumped faever, do you know what
- 14:26Speaker 2: I mean? He saw that and he'd be like, I'm
- 14:28Speaker 2: gonna show you, because I mean, Alcaraz was in that
- 14:31Speaker 2: lower point I think with where his body was and
- 14:34Speaker 2: maybe mentally as well, that he was holding serve. Everyone
- 14:37Speaker 2: was cheering it and then just getting like destroyed. Then
- 14:40Speaker 2: when he was trying to like break back the other way,
- 14:42Speaker 2: and it seemed like Parev was maybe feeding on it.
- 14:44Speaker 2: But then I think eventually it just wore him as well.
- 14:47Speaker 2: His body was breaking down. I think mentally he was
- 14:49Speaker 2: just cooked in that last game.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Well, you the last set, you could see he was
- 14:53Speaker 1: staggering a little bit and he just his legs were gone.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I mean it was five and a half hours of tennis.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It was so long.
- 14:58Speaker 1: When's the last time you did any think for five
- 15:00Speaker 1: and a half hours besides sleep?
- 15:02Speaker 2: And yeah, cry, yeah, cry, I mean yeah, crying is
- 15:05Speaker 2: a bit longer than that, I guess, but yeah, sleep
- 15:08Speaker 2: not a great sleeper, to be honest, and not yet
- 15:10Speaker 2: so just crying, I guess, just crying.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Wow.
- 15:12Speaker 2: But yeah, five what was it? Five fourteen? No longer
- 15:15Speaker 2: than that? Five twenty seven, five twenty seven. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 2: it was long, but it felt right, do you know
- 15:21Speaker 2: what I mean? Like the payoff was worth the amount
- 15:23Speaker 2: of time. It's fair of with one, I don't know,
- 15:26Speaker 2: it would have been interesting to see the dynamic.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Just think you could have been having a potato salad.
- 15:29Speaker 2: With a potato salad, that's good. Yeah, okay, spinach kish
- 15:33Speaker 2: would have been a good option. A funny option as well.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I will say with the Spanish support was great, the fantastic.
- 15:39Speaker 1: The camera kept panning to one lady.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Oh my god, so I was in love with that lady.
- 15:43Speaker 2: She was like in tears one.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the thing is like a lot
- 15:46Speaker 1: of Spanish flags, a lot of Spanish support. Yeah, but
- 15:50Speaker 1: is it unfair that a German player if someone's waving
- 15:53Speaker 1: a German flag and screaming, it's got bad kind of time?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Well there was yeah, yeah, but the only the way
- 15:59Speaker 2: they can do it. There was one German guy that
- 16:00Speaker 2: was he was making a splash on the screen because
- 16:02Speaker 2: he had like a crazy like top hat on and
- 16:05Speaker 2: was wearing like a like a weird colorful techno shirt
- 16:09Speaker 2: that said Berlin draped in a German flag. And I
- 16:12Speaker 2: think that's the German side of it. You've got to
- 16:14Speaker 2: lean into. You can't do the chance, basically, you just can't.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It's tough and they know that they.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Understand the situation. But yeah, but there was also the
- 16:24Speaker 2: Spanish supporters the rules, and they were yelling out things
- 16:26Speaker 2: in Spanish. We were trying to decipher they were yelling.
- 16:29Speaker 2: They were like constructive and supportive. It was beautifu. They
- 16:31Speaker 2: would yell o at like because you're by, yeah, I'm
- 16:34Speaker 2: just by so yeah obviously speak Spanish, yeah bilingual, Yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 2: well I'm not. I speak a little bit of Spanish
- 16:39Speaker 2: because my partner. But that would say like little by little,
- 16:41Speaker 2: like poco poco, and the would say it's dumbas gontigo
- 16:44Speaker 2: which means we are with you, like so beautiful. But
- 16:46Speaker 2: then there was one white guy who kept yelling out
- 16:49Speaker 2: in like a Mexican accent, you can't do it, Carlos,
- 16:53Speaker 2: which didn't feel right, but you can't argue with the results.
- 16:56Speaker 2: He did win.
- 16:56Speaker 1: He did do it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: He did do it.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I mean, we'll just go through the notes from the
- 17:02Speaker 1: match that I made and then just jump in if
- 17:05Speaker 1: anything pops out of you. Like I said, we missed
- 17:08Speaker 1: the first set. I just know Alcaaz had a break
- 17:11Speaker 1: late and then was able to close that first set.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Zverev he says he regrets most the second set because
- 17:18Speaker 1: he was up five to two.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yeah, wouldn't you.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah, And then I mean it made all the difference,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and because then Carlos got back on serve pushed it
- 17:28Speaker 1: to a tie break, and I was thinking the way
- 17:31Speaker 1: Alcaaz throws himself around the court. Of course, this has
- 17:35Speaker 1: been observation that has been made a million times. It's
- 17:37Speaker 1: a Nadal esque totally. But then Nadal's body eventually caught
- 17:41Speaker 1: up with him and I was like, oh, man, Like
- 17:43Speaker 1: I was like, surely he's going to have some injury
- 17:46Speaker 1: issues in the future. Rightly, that's speculating as to how
- 17:50Speaker 1: he plays right now.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but he might win you know, fifteen majors by
- 17:54Speaker 2: the time he's twenty six or something. You know, like
- 17:56Speaker 2: who knows well.
- 17:57Speaker 1: So that stat that he's the youngest man and to
- 18:00Speaker 1: be an all four Slam finals, and then if he wins,
- 18:03Speaker 1: he'll be the youngest man to win all Slam finals.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's crazy, it's unbelievable.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's an awesome storyline. Vera serve kind of went to
- 18:11Speaker 1: hell late in the second set, and then yeah, Carlos
- 18:16Speaker 1: was kind of toying with them in the second set tiebreak.
- 18:18Speaker 1: There was a lot of those drop shots. Yeah, push
- 18:20Speaker 1: him to the back there, the drop shot yesterday. He
- 18:23Speaker 1: always is.
- 18:24Speaker 2: But like you, when you're there and you see him
- 18:27Speaker 2: in like person, at the speed which he takes off
- 18:29Speaker 2: the ball to do it, it is so impressive. Yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 2: when he doesn't pull it off, you're like, oh my god,
- 18:34Speaker 2: what the hell? It's crazy. What's wrong with what he's
- 18:38Speaker 2: wrong with? You, dude?
- 18:39Speaker 1: But also Zverev is like, what six foot six he's
- 18:43Speaker 1: getting up to that ball.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Oh, totally, he can move. He can move. It's kind
- 18:47Speaker 2: of like these modern big tennis guys. They just they
- 18:49Speaker 2: move their quick their legs are just so long, like
- 18:51Speaker 2: you watch cineplayer. They can just get there. You don't
- 18:53Speaker 2: think they can, but they do.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:55Speaker 2: The highlight is when they and it happens a few
- 18:57Speaker 2: times in the fourth set. I feel like till the
- 18:59Speaker 2: in the third sorry till the injury kind of happened.
- 19:03Speaker 2: That we're going toe to toe at the baseline, whipping
- 19:05Speaker 2: four hands fair at full hand. It's just a beast.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Man all credits. There was some four hands to like
- 19:12Speaker 1: save break points like late in the match that were
- 19:15Speaker 1: the best I'd ever seen them.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Just a few that he whipped down the line. You're
- 19:18Speaker 2: just like, wow, I know, just speechless. Touch.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I kept looking at you, going, man, you could be
- 19:24Speaker 1: having yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. What do you got this time?
- 19:26Speaker 1: You could be having like a muffin?
- 19:28Speaker 2: What's your muffin? Who's having a muffin at dinner time?
- 19:32Speaker 2: That's crazy crazy.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So Carlos takes the second set. It looked like, for
- 19:38Speaker 1: all the world, this is going to be another straight
- 19:40Speaker 1: sets victory. I did feel that way, which is par
- 19:43Speaker 1: for the course for this tournament. The second week of
- 19:45Speaker 1: this tournament, and then this in the third set is
- 19:49Speaker 1: where things got wild. I thought it was an injury
- 19:53Speaker 1: at four to four in the third. Uh so did
- 19:57Speaker 1: Carlos Apparently yep, because he took a medical time out,
- 20:02Speaker 1: which angered Zvere.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Was very of got furious and started ranting in German.
- 20:09Speaker 2: In German, he was, yeah, which.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Was discussed before.
- 20:12Speaker 2: It's like he should have popped on a little funny
- 20:14Speaker 2: hat and a little colorful shirt and tried to be
- 20:17Speaker 2: more of a rave guy. But he I mean rightly,
- 20:22Speaker 2: so you could see why he was angry. But I
- 20:25Speaker 2: guess if you don't say it's cramps, how do you
- 20:28Speaker 2: know it's cramps.
- 20:30Speaker 1: If you don't say it's cramps.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Well you would have to say it's cramp, do you
- 20:33Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like so Carlos, he was like,
- 20:36Speaker 2: it could have been something else. I don't know. I
- 20:38Speaker 2: was worried about the that I could have pulled something.
- 20:41Speaker 2: The growing is a complex area of the human body.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he's twenty two, So what would you
- 20:45Speaker 1: call those phase.
- 20:46Speaker 6: Of his liss?
- 20:47Speaker 2: I would say, you know, it's a young man exploring
- 20:49Speaker 2: his body getting out there.
- 20:51Speaker 1: You wouldn't call it prime growing time.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I didn't know that's where you're going with it.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Oh my god, I thought it was the most obvious.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Can I say I remembered nothing from the last.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Podcast and that was prime growing time.
- 21:05Speaker 2: That was a chub close call, is what that was?
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah? Well he said it could have been an aductor,
- 21:12Speaker 1: which I believe is the same thing that happened to Mazzetti.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And he then took a medical time out. Zarah was
- 21:18Speaker 1: adamant it was it was cramps. It was obviously, But
- 21:21Speaker 1: what's the so what's the physio? Comes out right and
- 21:24Speaker 1: get a medical time out for cramps?
- 21:26Speaker 2: I know this, right, So but you tell you like,
- 21:28Speaker 2: I need the physio because I'm worried it might be
- 21:30Speaker 2: an abductor or whatever. And then he's rubbing away, like,
- 21:34Speaker 2: surely the physio is like a chub close another job
- 21:38Speaker 2: close call. Well, I mean I was watching his hands.
- 21:40Speaker 2: It was a chop close. Yeah, but like surely he
- 21:45Speaker 2: knows it would be different treatment for different injuries, and
- 21:47Speaker 2: if you have crams, you'd be doing something differently. All
- 21:49Speaker 2: we can see is he's just rubbing away down there.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I don't know what he's trying to do, what he's
- 21:54Speaker 2: trying to release, what he's trying to get out, I
- 21:56Speaker 2: don't know yeah, but but it obviously wasn't cram because
- 22:00Speaker 2: otherwise that would be cheating, and Carlitos not a cheater.
- 22:03Speaker 1: True. I mean, well, I think to all the world
- 22:07Speaker 1: it looked like he did something on that chot and
- 22:09Speaker 1: then then he's like stretching, and you know, like it
- 22:12Speaker 1: looked well, that.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Is the other thing, because it pulled up. He pulled
- 22:15Speaker 2: up immediately after a shot, which would suggest maybe it
- 22:18Speaker 2: was something else exactly right, whereas a cramp I think
- 22:22Speaker 2: they I mean, it does come suddenly, but I think
- 22:24Speaker 2: he would start to feel the process of the muscle
- 22:26Speaker 2: getting tense and wanting to spasm.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and it starts localized, right, And then he was
- 22:32Speaker 1: kind of staggering around for a good hour and a half.
- 22:34Speaker 1: He was on one leg. Dude.
- 22:37Speaker 2: That was the crazy stuff when he couldn't move and
- 22:41Speaker 2: he was just like throwing down like one hundred and
- 22:44Speaker 2: thirty kilometer first serves, and you're like and hitting winners,
- 22:47Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, like hitting some unbelievable winners. But
- 22:51Speaker 2: that's when the match kind of took on this whole
- 22:53Speaker 2: weird dynamic. It was like, do you know the classical
- 22:57Speaker 2: music piece flight of the bumblebee of course. Yeah, it's
- 23:00Speaker 2: kind of that was a similar journey. It takes you
- 23:02Speaker 2: and it goes down, and it goes up, and then
- 23:04Speaker 2: it comes all the way to this incredible crescendo at
- 23:06Speaker 2: the end. It was amazing.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you really shoehorned in some classical music knowledge.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Okay, do you want me to try another one? Okay?
- 23:14Speaker 2: It reminded me.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Of no, no, no, I want you to say, like
- 23:19Speaker 1: a music you really listened to. It reminded me of
- 23:22Speaker 1: a Vichy of a VICI. Hey, brother, Ip, don't bring
- 23:27Speaker 1: that in. I'll get sad. Yeah. Well, it was fifteen
- 23:31Speaker 1: games basically where he somehow still kept it close and
- 23:36Speaker 1: I thought he obviously his body was better in the
- 23:39Speaker 1: fifth set, I thought he dialed back in, but he.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Still lost the story broken immediately.
- 23:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what added that more complex layer of that
- 23:48Speaker 2: last set, because you're like, he is fighting and it
- 23:51Speaker 2: looked like he was getting on top. But full credit
- 23:54Speaker 2: to is fair of he is just doing what he
- 23:56Speaker 2: needed to do.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but he then in his press conference, Veruv said
- 24:02Speaker 1: I should have beat him quicker in those two sets
- 24:06Speaker 1: before the fifth, the third and the fourth he.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Really knock him down.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Well, just so his body was still cramped up in
- 24:11Speaker 1: the fifth because he was clearly feeling better by the
- 24:13Speaker 1: fifth set. Yeah, and then that's it's very surved for
- 24:17Speaker 1: it at five to four, and the crowd was going nuts, crazy, dude.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Every time Carlos won a point, it was wild.
- 24:24Speaker 2: It was crazy. And then the nervous energy is just like,
- 24:29Speaker 2: oh my, Like you're just sitting there, I'm like boding
- 24:31Speaker 2: my nails. Just the other journals are tapping away. I
- 24:34Speaker 2: don't know how they can be tapping away on their laptop.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah, So that sets up the final, which will be
- 24:48Speaker 1: Carlos Alcorazm versus Novak Djokovic. Let's talk about the other semifinal,
- 24:53Speaker 1: Djokovic versus Sinner.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Did you think, like in your little drain dory, did
- 24:57Speaker 2: you think that these were going to be the two
- 24:58Speaker 2: that we're going to be playing?
- 25:00Speaker 1: It is?
- 25:01Speaker 2: I mean, it couldn't be better, could it. It's like,
- 25:03Speaker 2: and especially both of them getting through those two matches
- 25:06Speaker 2: the way they did, It's like, I feel like on
- 25:09Speaker 2: a physicality level, they might be on a somewhat even
- 25:12Speaker 2: par even though Novak is what, what is one hundred
- 25:14Speaker 2: and thirty eight? I'm not sure exactly how old he is,
- 25:16Speaker 2: but one hundred and thirty eight exactly.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's got it the same Sonna.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's in the village, the retirement village they live.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Novak. Okay, so this was lots of.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Unpack here because this was it's like that match finishes
- 25:33Speaker 2: and you're like, whoa, what we've got our money's worth.
- 25:35Speaker 2: And then it's like Novak and Yanak were like, you know,
- 25:39Speaker 2: we're going to take it to another level.
- 25:40Speaker 1: You had a rush home too.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, yeah, that's pretty good. Well, the Argentinians would
- 25:46Speaker 2: call it payeesha pronunciation thing and then go to abia
- 25:52Speaker 2: abitha instead of.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Carl.
- 25:59Speaker 6: Oh.
- 25:59Speaker 1: The listeners love to hear that. I love it.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Probably offensive stuff as well. Apologies, that's all right.
- 26:04Speaker 1: So there's a nice little moment in the locker rooms
- 26:08Speaker 1: of the Djokovic top in Alcoraz. Alcoraz is warming down
- 26:13Speaker 1: after it.
- 26:13Speaker 2: He's on the.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Uh and Djokovic you know, says to him like, you know,
- 26:18Speaker 1: you can wrap that up any quicker. I'm an old man.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Is that what he said?
- 26:21Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's awesome, something to that effect.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I thought he said, what up, bro, something like that?
- 26:25Speaker 2: What have you been up to Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, what's how's it been hanging?
- 26:29Speaker 2: I love the Carlos is on the bike. I know
- 26:31Speaker 2: they have to warm down, but the optics of it
- 26:32Speaker 2: is always so funny. I'm like, why are you so
- 26:34Speaker 2: worn out?
- 26:35Speaker 6: Me?
- 26:35Speaker 2: You're well, you're now just doing a few kys on
- 26:37Speaker 2: the bike. Say they use that energy out there?
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:40Speaker 1: Save it for the final? Yeah?
- 26:41Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 1: The match Djokovic Cinner started much like the previous semi final,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and I thought it was just gonna be a three
- 26:53Speaker 1: set totally for Center. The first set, Center got off
- 26:56Speaker 1: to a quick start just like stayed ahead of him.
- 26:59Speaker 2: I played pretty well that first set, but you know,
- 27:01Speaker 2: he went down the break and it is what it is,
- 27:03Speaker 2: you know. But Sina was looking on fire.
- 27:05Speaker 1: His serve was huge. Yeah, I forget the exact stet,
- 27:08Speaker 1: but it was something like twenty six aces to Novak's twelve. Yeah,
- 27:13Speaker 1: throughout the match.
- 27:14Speaker 3: So uh.
- 27:15Speaker 1: The second set is when this started to get interesting.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Djokovic dug In started clobbering his forehand, goes up a
- 27:23Speaker 1: break three one, and at four to two, Jocko's serving
- 27:27Speaker 1: seemed to hurt his shoulder.
- 27:29Speaker 2: And he seemed to hurt everything in his body.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Well this is a classic Djokovic thing. Yeah, is he
- 27:35Speaker 1: kind of will flail around and fall into his seat
- 27:38Speaker 1: and let you know, like it's like robodope.
- 27:40Speaker 2: He vomited at one point. Did he into a towel? No,
- 27:43Speaker 2: that was Alcras, No he No, Novak had a towel
- 27:46Speaker 2: over his face. Dug, look like if that have we
- 27:49Speaker 2: got that on the cameras like that, please do actually,
- 27:56Speaker 2: please do. But he like maybe it was robodote, maybe
- 28:00Speaker 2: all theatrical. Maybe it's you know, grunt gate in a
- 28:02Speaker 2: different form. I don't know, but he was he was
- 28:06Speaker 2: like feeling it.
- 28:06Speaker 1: All he was and considering that his last two matches
- 28:10Speaker 1: were walkers, You're like, what why And it's like nighttime,
- 28:14Speaker 1: it's cool condition.
- 28:15Speaker 2: He might have called something off rod labor in the sauna, potentially.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Flavors in the air every day and every n But
- 28:27Speaker 1: he took that second set. Third set, there was like
- 28:30Speaker 1: more of the kind of falling around on the bench
- 28:32Speaker 1: and the towel over the head.
- 28:35Speaker 2: It still seemed third set, You're like, well done. Novak
- 28:37Speaker 2: took a set off him. But sinner will run this one.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I thought, center and four from there, yeah, Cinner. Look
- 28:47Speaker 1: like that first set, it looked like Cinner was doing
- 28:50Speaker 1: to Djokovic what Jokovic has been doing to people forever,
- 28:53Speaker 1: like getting crazy sliding backhands on across you know, cross
- 28:57Speaker 1: court shots and just deep, just insane defense getting everything back.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And the thing that fascinated me the most about this
- 29:05Speaker 1: match was it wasn't lockdown Djokovic, which he's been known
- 29:08Speaker 1: to do in the past, and just get every ball
- 29:10Speaker 1: back until the other go yeah, yeah, yeah, it was up.
- 29:13Speaker 1: He was lace in the ball, he was going for winners,
- 29:17Speaker 1: he was going for broke and it was awesome, But.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I guess you kind of have to because the Sinner's
- 29:22Speaker 2: back there. And when he plays like this, like you said,
- 29:24Speaker 2: it is kind of like prime Djokovic, Like it's just
- 29:26Speaker 2: a wall of defense. He's sending it back with heat,
- 29:29Speaker 2: he's getting to everything. It's like the court becomes so
- 29:31Speaker 2: much narrow and it hit a winner past him, and
- 29:33Speaker 2: I guess Jokovic was like, well, whatever, I'm one hundred
- 29:36Speaker 2: and thirty two, this is probably my could be my
- 29:38Speaker 2: last chance to do it. I'm just going to have
- 29:40Speaker 2: a swing.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah. It was awesome, it was amazing, And did you
- 29:43Speaker 1: stay up for the whole thing.
- 29:44Speaker 2: No, you know, Jules had something in the oven and
- 29:46Speaker 2: I had to.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Sit down to it. I tried your girlfriend.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I think she stayed up. I got to the fourth
- 29:54Speaker 2: I started falling seven. The fourth sat and then I
- 29:56Speaker 2: woke up and I just had to go to bed.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And then I woke up at about three am because
- 30:00Speaker 2: it was playing on my mind.
- 30:01Speaker 1: You had to get up early and eat crumpets with
- 30:03Speaker 1: your girlfriend.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Crumpets. Yeah, we're in Australia. I went to a beautiful
- 30:08Speaker 2: cafe and had avocado and toast.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Oh my god, someone's doing well. So the fourth set,
- 30:17Speaker 1: it was just back and forth, each guy taking a
- 30:20Speaker 1: set right up to the fifth and then Djokovic goes
- 30:23Speaker 1: up a break in the fifth. It was so much tension.
- 30:27Speaker 1: There was one service game for Jokovic when he was
- 30:30Speaker 1: up a break where he went down love forty and
- 30:32Speaker 1: then somehow got.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Through that game. Yeah, well what's his dad? Novak saved
- 30:36Speaker 2: sixteen or eighteen breakpoints.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just amazing.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Crazy. I know, it's like that doesn't that's not good
- 30:42Speaker 2: for your insight, Like you need to say hot dog
- 30:45Speaker 2: there after doing that.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Well, I think he is, you know, not only the
- 30:48Speaker 1: best of all time the boat, as I say, but
- 30:51Speaker 1: he's also like just been the mentally strongest athlete on
- 30:55Speaker 1: a court I think I've ever seen.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well he has to be because he's been
- 30:58Speaker 2: a chaser's entire.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Oh god, don't start that.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's just been chasing. Never been a front runner, never
- 31:05Speaker 2: been a front runner, and.
- 31:07Speaker 1: His dominant never been dominant.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Just always a little career journeyman, scratching out of victory
- 31:13Speaker 2: here and there, a good old odd he should be Australian.
- 31:17Speaker 2: He's an aussy battler.
- 31:18Speaker 1: That guy. Well this is uh, he said, the most
- 31:22Speaker 1: support he's ever gotten from the Australian crowd.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Well, it felt like, I mean, he has a complex
- 31:26Speaker 2: relationship with Australia and it feels like the tides turned.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I feel like now it's kind of universal support. It
- 31:33Speaker 2: often happens in like older age when people they you know,
- 31:36Speaker 2: they realize they have to celebrate the things they have.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And very lucky to see Prime Novak do so much
- 31:42Speaker 2: of his you know, historical work here at the Australian
- 31:45Speaker 2: Open and it's like, how can you not be tip
- 31:46Speaker 2: of your hat to that kind of a performance.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Of course, Well in that sense, Carlos being beloved already
- 31:54Speaker 1: Novak and like you said, is complex history with Australia,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but the crowd getting behind him in this match. Who
- 32:00Speaker 1: where do allegiances lie?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Truly do not know. I really do not know. I
- 32:04Speaker 2: think it becomes of like, what storyline do you value more?
- 32:08Speaker 2: Do you want to see the young buck win become
- 32:10Speaker 2: the youngest person to win a full slams or do
- 32:13Speaker 2: you want to see the goats the greatest of all
- 32:16Speaker 2: time at another one and become the.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Oldest and become the all time Grand Slam.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, go past Margaret Courts.
- 32:22Speaker 1: So twenty five, I.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Mean, it's take your pick. I don't know. I guess
- 32:26Speaker 2: you can't lose really, but if you're in the crowd cheering,
- 32:28Speaker 2: I don't know, what's this that? So this is Novak's
- 32:31Speaker 2: thirty I want to say, thirty seventh Grand Slam final.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. It's his eleventh Australian Open and he's never.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Last, Yeah, which is a terrifying statistic. Yeah, absolutely terrify.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So he's won ten finals here and yet the crowd
- 32:47Speaker 1: is still like, oh, we just st all don't know
- 32:49Speaker 1: about this guy.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Yeah, what I'm saying it's complex, it's very complex our
- 32:53Speaker 2: relationship with him, but it is amazing. Thirty seven Grand
- 32:56Speaker 2: Slam finals. It's like, that's so much of your career
- 33:00Speaker 2: you only get four shots of it a year. And
- 33:01Speaker 2: also he's won twenty four. Yeah, so it's like to
- 33:04Speaker 2: be the greatest of all time. He's still hitting what
- 33:06Speaker 2: like sixty percent victory rate in it. It's like phenomenal,
- 33:10Speaker 2: phenomenal longevity.
- 33:12Speaker 1: But it's okay, I'm well do predictions.
- 33:15Speaker 2: He's also been the most serious podcast I think we've done.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it's been our best. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: think it's been our best, dude, but we're like, we're
- 33:23Speaker 1: tennis heads. Now you are.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I'm all in. I'm all in.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, even though you know you thought you
- 33:29Speaker 1: might have to. We have to have a kill. Sorry,
- 33:34Speaker 1: we have to.
- 33:36Speaker 2: We have to whip this podcast out. In two minutes.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I'm meeting a friend at sushi bowl.
- 33:41Speaker 1: A friend a friend, Yeah, okay, yeah, you're going to
- 33:44Speaker 1: have a maybe.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I've got a zoom date. It's sushi bowl, all.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Right, okay.
- 33:48Speaker 2: A little sashimi exactly, a little sashimi brown rice Kinwa situation.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Oh my god, kin what has happened to you? M
- 34:00Speaker 1: Oh my god, what where's.
- 34:05Speaker 5: Feel?
- 34:06Speaker 1: It feels surreal to be honest. Jokovic takes it out
- 34:09Speaker 1: in the fifth set his speech afterwards. I loved this
- 34:14Speaker 1: line because Yannick had won the last five matches against.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Jogra five and one, and he was like, and he'd
- 34:20Speaker 2: lost the last five I think, is that correct?
- 34:22Speaker 1: Something like that? Well, I just know in the last
- 34:24Speaker 1: handful of matches Center, yeah, dominated, dominated, and h Djokovic.
- 34:29Speaker 1: This line was awesome. He said, yeah, Center had my number,
- 34:33Speaker 1: so I changed my number.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yeah, sick, Come on, it's cool. Shit, what's crazy is
- 34:38Speaker 2: then he put on a leather jacket and lit a
- 34:40Speaker 2: cigarette as well. He hit a jukebox. I don't know
- 34:43Speaker 2: where the jew box came from. Col that's crazy, no
- 34:46Speaker 2: Vak Fonzarelli. So that wraps up the semi final. What
- 34:55Speaker 2: a day, What amazing day of tennis? Crazy?
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah, the Australian openess, it's don't.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Even gonna get better. Peggy Goo in our sights as well.
- 35:03Speaker 2: We are the gooheads. It getting excited.
- 35:09Speaker 1: So I am super pumped for the men's final on Sunday.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Jakovic Alcaraz will see you know how they recover from
- 35:16Speaker 1: two epic matches. In other news, the Aussies going strong
- 35:21Speaker 1: in the doubles. Well Goodeki and Piers won the mixed up.
- 35:25Speaker 2: It's not bad, is it? I thought I heard the
- 35:26Speaker 2: national anthem ring out.
- 35:28Speaker 1: But Coobler and Pullman's are still yet to play.
- 35:32Speaker 2: I'm excited.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Are you? Are you? You're now the.
- 35:35Speaker 2: I'm a doubles guy. I've always been a doubles guy.
- 35:37Speaker 2: I like I like friendship, but I feel like I
- 35:39Speaker 2: would you know, yesterday I tried to pump them up.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I don't know if they listened. I would like to
- 35:44Speaker 2: think I want to go after this. Do you know
- 35:46Speaker 2: where they are right now?
- 35:47Speaker 1: They're in the tunnels.
- 35:48Speaker 2: They're in the tunnels. All right, I'm going to try
- 35:49Speaker 2: to catch them and do a little inspiring pump up.
- 35:52Speaker 1: What do you got? Okay?
- 35:54Speaker 5: All right?
- 35:55Speaker 2: Something like this would be like all right, the Brits
- 35:58Speaker 2: put us on that wrong beach and a story was
- 36:01Speaker 2: born Australia. The identity it's Marlbo, it's a vibe, it's
- 36:07Speaker 2: chowed in the chopper, it's everything. Get out there and
- 36:12Speaker 2: show this goddamn country what we're made of. If anyone
- 36:23Speaker 2: got a tissue. I'm crying.
- 36:25Speaker 1: That was beautiful? Is that beautiful? I loved it?
- 36:28Speaker 2: I I mean have written something.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Dude, another another. That's that's the motto of this podcast.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I'm super pumped. Another blockbuster match tonight. Women's Final Arena Sabalanca, Elena, Rebecca.
- 36:46Speaker 2: You've got Rebecca.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I got Rebeccena in three.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm taking sabal Anca mainly because my girlfriend is
- 36:53Speaker 2: off sabal Anka. Yeah, also has this quickly before I
- 36:56Speaker 2: know we're going to go through. We've got a great
- 36:57Speaker 2: interview coming. But my girlfriend wakes up this morning. First
- 37:00Speaker 2: thing she says, she goes, did what was the score?
- 37:02Speaker 2: Did sin A win? And I go novak wan and
- 37:04Speaker 2: she goes what And then she goes, I was having
- 37:08Speaker 2: a dream And I was like, what was the dream?
- 37:10Speaker 2: She goes, Pat Rafter was cooking me a MINESTRONI. I
- 37:16Speaker 2: don't take from that what you will. That's just how
- 37:19Speaker 2: I woke up this morning.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Right, And then now you have to go eat minnestroni
- 37:24Speaker 1: with your girlfriend instead of watching the Women's Final.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah, she's gonna and she's calling me Pat now, which
- 37:29Speaker 2: is really weird. It makes me wear bonds. Undie tak
- 37:33Speaker 2: my shirtf.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Our interview today. This is with Coco Garf. It's Lizzie
- 37:39Speaker 1: and I from a I don't know about a week
- 37:41Speaker 1: and a half ago. Coco, you know, had a great
- 37:44Speaker 1: tournament and then in the second week came up against
- 37:47Speaker 1: Fiddelina and had a bad day out there, but we
- 37:49Speaker 1: still had a great chat with her. Sam for our
- 37:51Speaker 1: audio listeners, was at this interview, but again sack quietly.
- 37:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 2: This was before they kind of believed in me, you guys,
- 37:57Speaker 2: and it wouldn't really let me speak. So I just
- 38:00Speaker 2: sat in the corner.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And I said, let the boy watch.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and I was passing Cocoa notes. I was like,
- 38:06Speaker 2: say this, they'll get a real kick out of it.
- 38:08Speaker 2: She ignored me pretty much. But it was a great
- 38:10Speaker 2: interview and it was good to watch you guys work
- 38:12Speaker 2: real professionals. I learn a lot.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Hey, it's Brett and Lexi from the AO Rap podcast.
- 38:18Speaker 6: We admit Mike and Lizzie are hilarious, but if you've
- 38:21Speaker 6: heard enough of them banging on and just want to
- 38:23Speaker 6: hear some actual tennis talk, match analysis and reaction, come
- 38:27Speaker 6: and hang with us every day of the main draw.
- 38:29Speaker 2: The AO Rap available wherever you get your podcasts.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Ah, welcome back to pot Labor Arena. We have one
- 38:39Speaker 1: of our favorite guests today, co Co Garfers here.
- 38:46Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 38:47Speaker 1: How excited are you to see me again?
- 38:50Speaker 7: As long as you're not playing any games.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Well we can settle it.
- 38:56Speaker 7: Oh gosh, another l for me today.
- 39:00Speaker 1: I won't let you, sir.
- 39:01Speaker 7: Okay, thank you? Yeah, my going in that.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Awesome to have you here. What do you think of
- 39:07Speaker 1: the studio?
- 39:08Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it's cool. It's pretty. Did they get
- 39:10Speaker 7: to see it or yeah?
- 39:12Speaker 1: Okay, I think so. Well here here's the thing. There
- 39:14Speaker 1: is a little East drag in here for you.
- 39:16Speaker 7: Oh like for me to.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's directly behind you.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Oh what why we look so serious?
- 39:27Speaker 4: Everyone looks serious?
- 39:30Speaker 1: Looks Okay, yeah, thank god. I gave Taylor an old
- 39:34Speaker 1: vintage racket. At least you get.
- 39:35Speaker 7: At a modern one. Oh my gosh, do.
- 39:37Speaker 1: You like that? I actually painted that myself.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Oh I was very creative, to be honest.
- 39:45Speaker 1: So, Coco, you were watching the one point slam the.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Other of us.
- 39:49Speaker 2: I believe, yeah, you're actually.
- 39:51Speaker 1: It is your hitting partner, Johan, yes, smoke me.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but he did he didn't do bad. I saw
- 39:59Speaker 3: the passing shot. He really wanted the millions.
- 40:02Speaker 1: You remember that he had a pass.
- 40:04Speaker 7: Passing back in on you.
- 40:06Speaker 4: I love that.
- 40:14Speaker 7: But you, I don't know how you got.
- 40:16Speaker 3: You lost some qualities and somehow you were on the
- 40:18Speaker 3: main It seemed like a little bit of rignis. Yeah.
- 40:22Speaker 3: I never heard nobody losing qualities and make it into
- 40:26Speaker 3: the main draw, considering it wasn't the last round of.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Qualities as in the Yeah that you're confusing me with
- 40:34Speaker 1: some other generic white.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Oh andy, Oh yes, you guys, Oh that was him.
- 40:41Speaker 7: My bad, I am confusing you. Oh my god.
- 40:43Speaker 4: I kind of looked similar.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Yeah, but there was a few people who lost some
- 40:46Speaker 3: qualities made it, Like Boslova, she lost some qualities and
- 40:49Speaker 3: she made it. Futva beat Karina Busta and somehow he
- 40:54Speaker 3: still got to play. So there was a few rigness
- 40:56Speaker 3: going on, throwing down.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Yeah, we're going to hand this backstraight to that.
- 41:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm handing it to Craig Tyley.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Yeah, get him on the phone.
- 41:05Speaker 1: But you took part in it, so if it was
- 41:07Speaker 1: surely you would have been told to Oh is that
- 41:10Speaker 1: why you missed the servant?
- 41:11Speaker 3: No, I missed a serve that was going to happen regardless.
- 41:15Speaker 3: That was gonna happen regardless, But I just felt bad
- 41:18Speaker 3: for some of the people that lost and didn't get
- 41:21Speaker 3: the chance.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Well, we've been playing the game the one hundred for
- 41:24Speaker 1: the past few years. You've come in every time I'm
- 41:28Speaker 1: undefeated against you.
- 41:29Speaker 7: Yes, you are.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Should I offer you redemption on the little pingk.
- 41:33Speaker 7: If that's what you want.
- 41:36Speaker 4: I think it is what Mike wants.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Well, I feel like you'll win, right, like I think.
- 41:41Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 41:41Speaker 3: I'm not very good at ping pong for a tennis player,
- 41:43Speaker 3: to be honest, No, I'm really not.
- 41:45Speaker 1: You're too humble.
- 41:46Speaker 7: No, I'm not. I'm serious.
- 41:48Speaker 1: This is my games already.
- 41:49Speaker 7: This is I'm just being honest.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I think maybe you got to play.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so this will be a one point slam. Okay,
- 41:57Speaker 1: we don't have a million bucks to give away.
- 41:59Speaker 7: Okay, that's fine. You have another price.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Well, the steaks are Lizzie, you can explain it.
- 42:03Speaker 4: You can we play paying pong or steinen pong.
- 42:07Speaker 7: Oh, so you have to hit the person? Yeah, Oh,
- 42:09Speaker 7: I'm not going to hit him.
- 42:11Speaker 4: What can I hit him?
- 42:13Speaker 7: You can hit him for me?
- 42:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the deal.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Women are nice to.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Look at it. I still look at I still look at.
- 42:27Speaker 5: Welcome to Pod Labor Arena Stadium. We have Mike Goldstein,
- 42:31Speaker 5: our very own and the amazing Coco Golf about to serve.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Take it away Coco and she's in and Mike, oh,
- 42:38Speaker 5: she's she's not very good of this. She's going to forehand.
- 42:40Speaker 5: She's looking good.
- 42:42Speaker 4: This is we have a relic.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my gosh, I made my day.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Coco said that I could hit Mike.
- 42:52Speaker 8: Oh um in here all and I have the burst
- 43:04Speaker 8: a haircut.
- 43:04Speaker 7: Look at me
