- 0:01The Integral Yoga, which involves a deep understanding of
- 0:05the normal psychology of the human being as well as the
- 0:09impact of the descent of the higher spiritual force to
- 0:13manifest the divine will in the manifestation, has to develop
- 0:17its own terminology and specific definitions so as to ensure
- 0:22clear communication and understanding.
- 0:26One such instance of this is distinguishing between will and
- 0:31willing. Will as a concept is reserved
- 0:35for the expression of the higher intention in the manifestation.
- 0:40Willing is what arises as a result of pressures on the body,
- 0:45life, mind through its interactions in the world.
- 0:50We tend not to distinguish these two normally, as they enter US
- 0:54subliminally and arise as if from within ourselves, and we
- 0:59thus call them our will in action.
- 1:03A close consideration, however, can aid us in seeing both the
- 1:07source and the nature of the various impulsions upon which we
- 1:11act and react. The mother notes Quote I have
- 1:17another question about what I told you the other day when we
- 1:20discussed the distinction between will and willings.
- 1:24I told you that willings, which riorobindo calls willings, are
- 1:29movements arising not from a higher consciousness coming down
- 1:32into the being and expressing itself in action, but from
- 1:36impulses or influences from outside.
- 1:40We reserve the word will to express what in the individual
- 1:44consciousness is the expression of an order or impulse coming
- 1:49from the truth of the being, from the truth of the
- 1:52individual, his true being, his true self.
- 1:56You understand that we call will and all the impulses, actions,
- 2:02movements arising in the being which are not that.
- 2:06We said we're willings. And I told you in fact, that
- 2:10without knowing it, or at times even knowing it, you are moved
- 2:15by influences coming from outside which enter in without
- 2:18your even being aware of them and arouse in you what you call
- 2:23the will that a certain thing may happen or another may not,
- 2:29et cetera. End Quote reference Shriorobindo
