- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the best of Stu Gotson Company Live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I am both excited and nervous for today's show. Excited
- 0:24Speaker 1: because there is a Hall of Fame broadcaster co hosting
- 0:28Speaker 1: the show with me.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Is He is out.
- 0:30Speaker 1: He's sick of the Knicks, so we took a sick day.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Hopefully he'll be back tomorrow. But Mike Golicks Senior is
- 0:37Speaker 1: in with us for the entire show today. I'm excited
- 0:40Speaker 1: about that. But Mike Ya, here's the reason I'm nervous.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Kelly Amante Hiller the head coach of the Northwestern Wildcats.
- 0:50Speaker 3: She coaches my daughter.
- 0:52Speaker 1: She just won her ninth national championship as a coach,
- 0:56Speaker 1: as two as a player. Mike is always complained because
- 1:00Speaker 1: Mike has done shows with us for a while now.
- 1:02Speaker 3: When I use his name and I leverage his name.
- 1:04Speaker 1: To get us great guests like Andy Reid, that me
- 1:07Speaker 1: and mikey a are going to ruin his relationship with
- 1:12Speaker 1: Andy Reid and Mike Golick Senior today is payback because
- 1:16Speaker 1: you have an opportunity to ruin my relationship with the
- 1:20Speaker 1: person who coaches my daughter.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Why do you put mikey a in with you? Like
- 1:27Speaker 4: both of you ruin it. It's used to the man
- 1:30Speaker 4: who trips and falls upward and everything he does. Are
- 1:35Speaker 4: are the one the reason I get nervous when the
- 1:38Speaker 4: Andy Reids of the world come on and our guest
- 1:40Speaker 4: and I will oh, I am going to torture you
- 1:43Speaker 4: in front of this unbelievable Hall of Fame coach right
- 1:48Speaker 4: as to how close you were to costing your daughter
- 1:53Speaker 4: a spot on this national championship team. That's gonna be
- 1:58Speaker 4: the the the lion's share of this interview, right is
- 2:02Speaker 4: how close you cost your daughter?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Yes, thank you for the compliments on the front end.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I will also tell you I'm going to allow Taylor
- 2:10Speaker 1: and I am hesitant to do this, but Taylor's feeling
- 2:13Speaker 1: good about himself. He's upset that he's not in the
- 2:15Speaker 1: awful Announcings list of upcoming broadcasters. But Taylor's feeling good
- 2:20Speaker 1: about himself. He has a record of Jalen Brunton songs
- 2:22Speaker 1: five of them because four wasn't enough, three wasn't enough,
- 2:26Speaker 1: two wasn't enough, one wasn't enough. But Taylor, I am
- 2:29Speaker 1: going to allow him to ask three questions.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Now.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I did tell Kelly beforehand that if he gets out
- 2:35Speaker 1: of line, I'm going to fire him.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Like Taylor, I need you to tread lightly on this, Okay, Mike.
- 2:42Speaker 5: I don't know if you saw that game, but it
- 2:45Speaker 5: was against my alma mater, North Carolina, and Stu Gotts
- 2:48Speaker 5: is walking around with a hat that says lake show on.
- 2:52Speaker 5: And I said, you think you could get ref show
- 2:54Speaker 5: on that?
- 2:56Speaker 3: Oh, that's not that.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Yeah. I did see the game. I love watching men's
- 3:01Speaker 4: and women's lacrosse, especially that final weekend. It was awesome. Unfortunately,
- 3:05Speaker 4: Notre Dame got shelled by Princeton, who was by far, yes,
- 3:09Speaker 4: without question, the better team. But yeah, Northwest. Here's my
- 3:13Speaker 4: thoughts to is you're allowing Taylor three questions with the
- 3:19Speaker 4: thought of not getting out of line. What in your
- 3:22Speaker 4: purview is out of line?
- 3:24Speaker 1: What he just said the most person there is right, yes,
- 3:29Speaker 1: but you will find that I am a different person
- 3:32Speaker 1: when I'm speaking to the person who is in control
- 3:35Speaker 1: of my daughter.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I mean you'll see a difference, Stu Gods, Mike, I
- 3:39Speaker 3: promise you.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And the and the point that Taylor just brought up
- 3:44Speaker 1: is a point he's not going to bring up to Kelly's.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Good to chick it out. He's gonna check it out.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Well. Listen, She's very good friends with Belichick.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So this is your opportunity if you want Belichick out
- 3:56Speaker 1: of UNZ. She Belichick is one of her best friends. Okay,
- 4:00Speaker 1: so perhaps you can work out an arrangement work Kelly,
- 4:03Speaker 1: but Belichick on the payroll at Northwestern.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I'm just saying I'll throw it out there.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So anyway, Mike, the Knicks, this is funny what has
- 4:12Speaker 1: happened on the way to the NBA Finals. And by
- 4:15Speaker 1: the way, Dave Pash could have joined us as well.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It is the two year anniversary of the passing of
- 4:20Speaker 1: my friend Bill Walton.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Dave Pash.
- 4:22Speaker 1: No one was closer to Bill than Dave, and he
- 4:25Speaker 1: will join us coming up at around four twenty. We'll
- 4:27Speaker 1: talk about Bill with him, we'll talk about the New
- 4:29Speaker 1: York Knicks. Mike, you worked with Bill at ESPN for many,
- 4:32Speaker 1: many years, and I am certain, like everyone else who
- 4:35Speaker 1: has worked with Bill. There have to be some funny
- 4:37Speaker 1: memories for you.
- 4:38Speaker 4: We Bill obviously loved to talk. One time during Mike
- 4:44Speaker 4: and Mike with me and Greeney, we started the interview,
- 4:48Speaker 4: we said hello, We asked one question, and Greedy and
- 4:53Speaker 4: I left the studio physically left the studio, and Bill
- 4:59Speaker 4: gave an a answer the entire segment. In fact, we
- 5:03Speaker 4: were late. We're breaking, which is in shocking knowing how
- 5:07Speaker 4: Bill talks. He's the best. He's the best. We had
- 5:10Speaker 4: an ESPN the wedding during green and I days, and
- 5:14Speaker 4: and Bill was was was there was he was someone
- 5:19Speaker 4: in the audience. Nothing like panning the crowd and seeing
- 5:23Speaker 4: the seven footer, you know, just sitting there in a
- 5:26Speaker 4: coat and tie, watching an arbitrary couple get married.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yes, great guy, Yes, but Bill got it. He understood
- 5:33Speaker 1: broadcasting like it was there because he wanted to be there,
- 5:36Speaker 1: because he knew the visual of that would be funny, right,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I mean.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Without question, without question. Yeah. Love love that man. Miss
- 5:43Speaker 4: him so much. Yep.
- 5:44Speaker 1: So we'll talk to Dave Pash, who was his broadcast
- 5:46Speaker 1: partner for many, many years. We'll talk to him at
- 5:49Speaker 1: around four twenty eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
- 5:52Speaker 1: Hall of Famer. We have a Hall of Famer co
- 5:54Speaker 1: hosting the show eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I want phone calls today, Mike.
- 5:59Speaker 1: A funny thing is happen on the way to the
- 6:01Speaker 1: NBA Finals, and I'm not certain I like it.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I'm not certain Taylor likes it.
- 6:06Speaker 1: But suddenly everyone's a Nick fan and it is driving
- 6:09Speaker 1: me crazy. Suddenly the New York Knicks have become America's
- 6:12Speaker 1: team where everyone is getting behind this cute little underdog
- 6:17Speaker 1: and it seems like whether they're rooting against Oklahoma City
- 6:21Speaker 1: or Wemby, but it does seem like everyone is doing
- 6:24Speaker 1: something I thought I would never see, and that's rooting
- 6:26Speaker 1: for the New York Knicks.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Do we think it's everyone or Nick fans are just
- 6:31Speaker 4: obnoxiously loud right that it's still the minority, But they're
- 6:37Speaker 4: the loudest, right, Yes, Because at the end of the day,
- 6:40Speaker 4: I still think people outside of New York won't root
- 6:44Speaker 4: for New York.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Now.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I heard Reggie Miller. He thought that the Knicks would
- 6:49Speaker 4: be favored no matter who they played, which is absurdly false. Yes,
- 6:54Speaker 4: they're going to be underdog by every book in the
- 6:56Speaker 4: world to either San Antonio or Oklahoma Sate. But they
- 7:01Speaker 4: are playing well. And the thing that impresses well and
- 7:05Speaker 4: say impresses me, I would say that this is the
- 7:10Speaker 4: way the NBA wants it. Now. You know, the NBA
- 7:14Speaker 4: has tried with the second Apron, trying to get rid
- 7:16Speaker 4: of putting together superstar teams. Jalen Brunton is a star
- 7:21Speaker 4: in this league, but is he that superstar? Right? Yeah?
- 7:25Speaker 4: I mean that that teams try and put players together.
- 7:29Speaker 4: The Knicks aren't that they don't have that unbelievable superstar,
- 7:32Speaker 4: even though Brunson could could fit that. Mold Carl Anthony
- 7:36Speaker 4: Towns obviously playing well, but they're playing so well as
- 7:40Speaker 4: a team right now. They lead the playoffs in about
- 7:44Speaker 4: every the East and West Conference together in about every
- 7:48Speaker 4: statistical category that there is. So they're playing well. Now.
- 7:53Speaker 4: The other side to tech take a step back and
- 7:58Speaker 4: look realistically at it, they're playing in the weaker conference. Yes, right,
- 8:03Speaker 4: the road they had to go through isn't the road
- 8:06Speaker 4: that ends up with Oklahoma City and San Antonio. We
- 8:10Speaker 4: talked about Boston surprising everybody with Jason Tatum missing all
- 8:14Speaker 4: the season that he missed, so who was going to
- 8:16Speaker 4: be the team Detroit was number one all year, where
- 8:19Speaker 4: they're going to be able to hold on to it?
- 8:21Speaker 4: Obviously that answer was no. Cleveland brings in James Harden,
- 8:24Speaker 4: where people go yay, but man, what wait till you
- 8:27Speaker 4: get to the playoffs. That's where Harden struggles, and obviously
- 8:31Speaker 4: he did. So I while it's a great story and
- 8:36Speaker 4: they're playing great, there's no way I would favor them
- 8:40Speaker 4: in the finals. Mike.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So I would say, you're right about the conference, you're
- 8:44Speaker 1: right about an easier path to getting to the NBA finals.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But the Knicks did to those teams what good teams
- 8:50Speaker 1: do to those teams. They didn't just beat them, they
- 8:52Speaker 1: beat them bad.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Mike. Well, and listen when Cleveland lost that twenty two
- 8:57Speaker 4: point lead in the last seven minutes regulation, in five
- 9:01Speaker 4: minutes of overtime and lost that game one. I mean,
- 9:04Speaker 4: I can't tell you again, my sport was football, but
- 9:08Speaker 4: as a professional athlete, the mental blow that that gives you. Now,
- 9:12Speaker 4: it's supposed to go game, endgame, go to next game, right,
- 9:16Speaker 4: But that's easier said than done. Right of something not
- 9:20Speaker 4: carrying over and saying we had a freaking twenty two
- 9:23Speaker 4: point lead on the road, and we blew it. That
- 9:27Speaker 4: would have given us home court advantage and we blew it,
- 9:31Speaker 4: and they just think, listen, shots missed. You could talk
- 9:35Speaker 4: about Kenny Atkinson keeping the timeouts, Donovan Mitchell missing shots,
- 9:40Speaker 4: the amount of turnovers that they had and giving the
- 9:43Speaker 4: Knicks extra opportunities was absurd. And but you're right, New
- 9:48Speaker 4: York did exactly what you should do when you're the
- 9:50Speaker 4: better team and it turned out to be the dominant team.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You don't make it close, and that's exactly what they did.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So it's interesting.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I'm wondering if this has ever happened to you when
- 9:59Speaker 1: you were playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. But Jim Jackson
- 10:02Speaker 1: was on with us yesterday and he said you could
- 10:04Speaker 1: see it the Cavs body language. It was like, hey,
- 10:07Speaker 1: we're not coming back in this series. We're not winning
- 10:09Speaker 1: this series, and kind of suggested through body language that
- 10:13Speaker 1: they kind of gave up mailed it in the rest
- 10:15Speaker 1: of the way there.
- 10:16Speaker 4: So, so the difference in football is you don't play
- 10:18Speaker 4: series right, and when you're down three zip in a series.
- 10:21Speaker 4: In hockey and baseball, teams have come back. It's never
- 10:26Speaker 4: happened in the NBA, So you know, that the mental
- 10:29Speaker 4: part of a team is going to be switched to
- 10:32Speaker 4: win this series, to play for pride. Okay, but in football,
- 10:37Speaker 4: you know, we kind of had the Giants number for
- 10:40Speaker 4: a time, where Washington kind of had our number for
- 10:43Speaker 4: a time. And the comparison I'll draw is when a
- 10:46Speaker 4: team has your number, no matter if you have the
- 10:50Speaker 4: lead or not, you're waiting to see the shoe drop.
- 10:54Speaker 4: You're waiting to feel the shoe drop of okay, instead
- 10:58Speaker 4: of how do we step on their throat? It's okay,
- 11:01Speaker 4: what's gonna cost us this time? What are we gonna
- 11:04Speaker 4: do to let this team back in the game or
- 11:06Speaker 4: what are they gonna do to us to get back
- 11:09Speaker 4: in this game? That's about the only comparison I can
- 11:11Speaker 4: make with football and a sport where there is a series.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Mike, I'm finding myself in quite the conundrum right now
- 11:19Speaker 5: because you mentioned Reggie Miller, and I don't like what's
- 11:23Speaker 5: happening because as a Knick fan, I'm getting mad at
- 11:25Speaker 5: anybody right now saying the Knicks don't have a chance
- 11:29Speaker 5: against whoever comes out of the West, which you very
- 11:31Speaker 5: close came to saying yes, But now Reggie Miller is
- 11:35Speaker 5: saying not only could they win, they'd be favored. And
- 11:37Speaker 5: I'm looking at Reggie Miller and I like the message,
- 11:40Speaker 5: but I don't like my ally there. And I think
- 11:41Speaker 5: he's just doing that to try to jinx us, because
- 11:44Speaker 5: I know for a fact, no Knicks fan cares what
- 11:46Speaker 5: Reggie Miller has to say.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm one of them.
- 11:48Speaker 1: He's inserting himself into a series he doesn't belong in,
- 11:51Speaker 1: like leave the Knicks alone. You did enough damage when
- 11:53Speaker 1: you were playing for the Indiana Beezers, and no one
- 11:56Speaker 1: believes him. Mike, I am totally with Taylor on this.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Nobody believes that Reggie Miller. Okay, maybe some other people are,
- 12:03Speaker 1: but I can promise you this, Reggie Miller is not
- 12:06Speaker 1: rooting for the New York Knicks.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Okay, no, yeah, listen, I completely agree with that.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So yeah, throwing out that that that little thing of
- 12:15Speaker 4: them being uh yeah, favored, it's added pressure.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I mean, it's added pressure that we don't need. Leave
- 12:20Speaker 3: us alone, Reggie Miller enough, you know what I love?
- 12:22Speaker 4: They showed you know, they always show celebrity row at
- 12:26Speaker 4: these games. They showed the celebrities the last time the
- 12:30Speaker 4: Knicks were in the finals. Yea, and it was a
- 12:33Speaker 4: young Two of the constants were Ben Stiller and Spike Lee.
- 12:38Speaker 4: But man did they they look like kids when the
- 12:42Speaker 4: last time it was hilarious.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Mike, I saw those same exact pictures. I think they
- 12:47Speaker 5: probably should have just left out Diddy.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they Diddy.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Yeah they did. Adam Sandler was in there, and young
- 12:57Speaker 4: looking Adam Sandler. Yeah.

- 13:34Speaker 5: for the start of this season.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Well, I mean that's not shocking. I was ready to
- 13:37Speaker 4: bring it back. I mean, no, no, no worries. It's
- 13:40Speaker 4: it's it's something that we're all used to. So I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 4: I him not being here and talking.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Is that?
- 13:49Speaker 4: Is that the same as Wemby not talking to the
- 13:53Speaker 4: media after the game? Is this is Stu aligning himself
- 13:57Speaker 4: right now with victim wembin Yama in boycotting his media responsibilities.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Is that what's going on. I'll be excited whenever Stu
- 14:07Speaker 4: sits back down to ask him if in fact he
- 14:12Speaker 4: backs Wemby for not talking to the media. Stu has
- 14:15Speaker 4: now joined us late, but at least he is talking
- 14:18Speaker 4: to the media where Victor wembin Yama did not talk
- 14:22Speaker 4: to the media after a subpar by his standards game
- 14:27Speaker 4: in their lost to Oklahoma City last night. Do you
- 14:29Speaker 4: stand with or against Wemby?
- 14:32Speaker 1: Stu against Wemby. I'll get back to that in just
- 14:35Speaker 1: a second. Mikey A texted me during the break saying,
- 14:37Speaker 1: this is what it's like playing behind Nolan Ryan. We
- 14:39Speaker 1: have a Hall of Famer with us, and he's right
- 14:42Speaker 1: because I wasn't here to start the segment. Very unprofessional
- 14:45Speaker 1: of me, and I am unprofessional, but not when it
- 14:48Speaker 1: comes to this.
- 14:48Speaker 3: So my apologies to you, Mike Golding Senior.
- 14:53Speaker 1: No, I mean listen, Wemby has not stopped talking the
- 14:57Speaker 1: entire season, pleading his for the MVP.
- 15:01Speaker 3: He save the All Star.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Game, Wemby, Wemby, Wemby, and the second things go the
- 15:06Speaker 1: other way on him all of a sudden, Hey, I'm
- 15:09Speaker 1: gonna avoid the media, Mike.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I know you don't agree with this.
- 15:12Speaker 1: He needs to go to the podium and step up
- 15:15Speaker 1: in good times and in bad times.
- 15:16Speaker 4: He has to first. What's interesting, I think the league
- 15:21Speaker 4: kind of takes it light on Wemby. Right, he only
- 15:25Speaker 4: got a warning here, he didn't get fine. But I
- 15:28Speaker 4: go back to when he threw that elbow and got
- 15:30Speaker 4: kicked out of the game. Not only did he not
- 15:33Speaker 4: get suspended, he didn't even get fine for that, and
- 15:36Speaker 4: that that was a vicious elbow. Yes, So the league
- 15:41Speaker 4: kind of I think took it easy on Wemby. I
- 15:43Speaker 4: don't know their rules for not showing up in the media,
- 15:46Speaker 4: but they said they're not finding him, they're just warning him. Listen,
- 15:50Speaker 4: should he have shown up, Absolutely, If you're gonna talk,
- 15:53Speaker 4: you talk, win or lose, no doubt about it. The
- 15:56Speaker 4: one thing I'll say on the other end is he's young.
- 15:59Speaker 4: He's going to learn, he's gonna understand that he has
- 16:03Speaker 4: a responsibility. And I don't I would not expect that
- 16:07Speaker 4: to happen too often if it does again, But he
- 16:11Speaker 4: damn well should be at the microphone and good times
- 16:14Speaker 4: and in bad times. But that's something you learn over time.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Gold you mentioned the elbow that he threw in the
- 16:19Speaker 5: Timberwolf series. I don't know if you saw yesterday, but
- 16:22Speaker 5: the conspiracy going around where wembin Yama is leaving the
- 16:25Speaker 5: court when the game's out of reach and he whispers
- 16:28Speaker 5: something to Plumbly and Byambo and then the next thing
- 16:33Speaker 5: that happens is Plumbly absolutely takes a cheap shot on
- 16:36Speaker 5: Jared McCain through his screen. And now people are wondering,
- 16:39Speaker 5: did Wenby kind of whisper, hey, hard foul take him out?
- 16:45Speaker 4: That's interesting. That is interesting. I don't know about conspiracy theories.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I don't really understand that that part of it, but
- 16:55Speaker 4: that's an interesting subplot.
- 16:56Speaker 1: The most interesting part of that is Plumbly still in
- 16:59Speaker 1: the league.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I had no idea, Yes.
- 17:04Speaker 4: That's the guy you said to do the hard foul
- 17:06Speaker 4: when you can't, yes, exactly, because you know that would
- 17:10Speaker 4: be me, right, that would be me playing bat well,
- 17:13Speaker 4: that was me on the football field kind of crossing
- 17:15Speaker 4: the line. But that would be me in basketball, I'd
- 17:18Speaker 4: give you six files and they'd be hard fouls.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Let's go to a trip. Who was in Las Vegas today? Trip?
- 17:25Speaker 3: Go ahead, you're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 17:28Speaker 6: Hey, sorry, Hey, I'm here now. Sorry about that, Paul,
- 17:32Speaker 6: I think you're taking the call. I was going to say,
- 17:33Speaker 6: do me, I got to do. Do me a favor.
- 17:36Speaker 6: If I'm on the elevator and I've already pressed the button,
- 17:38Speaker 6: don't get on and press the same button. It's not
- 17:40Speaker 6: coming any faster.
- 17:43Speaker 4: See that. That's an interesting one because that even happens
- 17:47Speaker 4: before you get in the elevator. Right, You're gonna go
- 17:50Speaker 4: up and somebody has already pushed the up button and
- 17:53Speaker 4: you come there and the elevator hasn't come yet, the
- 17:56Speaker 4: up button is lit, and you still go and push it.
- 17:59Speaker 4: You figger me, pushing it is now going to make
- 18:01Speaker 4: the elevator come here.
- 18:02Speaker 1: That's a good one. I do like that, right me?
- 18:04Speaker 1: Not pushing it was enough. You have to push it
- 18:06Speaker 1: yourself and get here.
- 18:08Speaker 4: What are you doing? Right? Yes?
- 18:10Speaker 7: I just like pushing buttons like my kid, you know,
- 18:13Speaker 7: like I get to push the button.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Yes, that is a good one though, because everybody does that.
- 18:18Speaker 4: You almost your fingers like a magnet to the button.
- 18:21Speaker 4: You can't help yourself put to push that button.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I am so nervous about the next segment because Kelly
- 18:26Speaker 1: Amonte Hiller, nine time national champion, coach, two time national
- 18:30Speaker 1: champion as a player, eleven total, and she coaches my
- 18:34Speaker 1: daughter and these guys are going to try to wreck
- 18:36Speaker 1: my relationship with her.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Coming up next, be sure to catch live editions of
- 18:40Speaker 2: Stu Godson Company Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve
- 18:45Speaker 2: pm Pacific.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I am very excited and nervous for this. Kelly Amonte Hiller.
- 18:51Speaker 1: She is a nine time national champion as a coach,
- 18:54Speaker 1: two times as a player, eleven total national championships. She
- 18:58Speaker 1: has made women's lacrosse matter in the Midwest in Chicago,
- 19:02Speaker 1: and it was absolutely beautiful to see over the weekend.
- 19:05Speaker 3: And she joins us right now.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Taylor, She's also in charge of my daughter, So be
- 19:09Speaker 1: careful with your questions and Kelly, I'm telling you right
- 19:11Speaker 1: now on the front end. If Taylor gets out of
- 19:14Speaker 1: line here, I will fire him.
- 19:15Speaker 8: Okay, Kelly, Okay, you got to get my last name right.
- 19:21Speaker 9: It's a Monty.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Oh Okay, I'm sorry. Well, listen it's a New York accent.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I'm sorry about that.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Seriously, Stu, your daughter plays for her and you can't
- 19:32Speaker 4: get her last name correct? Start there, Yes, Okay, go ahead.
- 19:37Speaker 4: When when you were recruiting Rachel, how much of an
- 19:41Speaker 4: impediment was stue to this whole thing of if I
- 19:45Speaker 4: get take Rachel, Stu has to come along for the ride.
- 19:49Speaker 9: I would say probably pretty massive impediment.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Well, thank you.
- 19:58Speaker 9: I mean, his wife's really nice. We like her though.
- 20:01Speaker 4: His wife is a goddess. With our question, Angel in
- 20:07Speaker 4: all serious says, how many how many parents do you
- 20:10Speaker 4: get of players that you recruit who coached their kids?
- 20:16Speaker 8: You know you'd be surprised. I think a fair amount.
- 20:20Speaker 8: I think sometimes when uh, you know, their parents are coaches,
- 20:25Speaker 8: they kind of understand a little bit of the behind
- 20:29Speaker 8: the scenes.
- 20:30Speaker 9: Of, you know, what it takes to be successful. So
- 20:34Speaker 9: sometimes we like that situation.
- 20:36Speaker 8: Because you know, they they really understand, you know, the
- 20:41Speaker 8: big picture of things. My daughter is a college wrestler,
- 20:45Speaker 8: and I think she's really benefited from the knowledge that
- 20:49Speaker 8: Scott and myself have and you know how we guide
- 20:54Speaker 8: her behind the scenes.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Michael, i'm a I'm a I have a kinship to
- 20:58Speaker 4: your daughter. I was a college wrestler.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Name that Okay, awesome, wait times at the University of Iowa. Yeah, Mike,
- 21:06Speaker 1: aren't you in the Wrestling Hall of Fame? I mean yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 1: but unfortunately not as a wrestler. Yeah, skip over that one.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yes, Kelly, I know how much the sport means to you.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I know how much expanding this sport and growing this
- 21:25Speaker 1: sport means to you. So if you wouldn't mind just
- 21:27Speaker 1: kind of put us in your head before the National
- 21:30Speaker 1: championship game. The game is being played on your home
- 21:32Speaker 1: field at Northwestern in Evans State, and the final four
- 21:36Speaker 1: is being played in a non Atlantic Coast state for
- 21:39Speaker 1: the first time in the sports history. I can't imagine
- 21:43Speaker 1: how overwhelmed with pride you were right.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Before the championship game, just to see all of that.
- 21:48Speaker 9: Kelly, absolutely, I think you know.
- 21:51Speaker 8: Honestly, before the Final Four, I was pretty nervous because
- 21:58Speaker 8: not of compute, but I wanted to make sure that
- 22:02Speaker 8: we had fans in the stands, and I just like
- 22:05Speaker 8: had a moment of like, oh my gosh, Like they
- 22:08Speaker 8: gave us this moment. They gave us the opportunity to
- 22:12Speaker 8: host first time ever outside of the Eastern time zone,
- 22:15Speaker 8: will we pack these stands? And you know, on Friday
- 22:20Speaker 8: when people showed up, I was like, this is this
- 22:23Speaker 8: is awesome. I am just so grateful for this moment.
- 22:27Speaker 8: And then you know, it was just tenfold on Sunday
- 22:30Speaker 8: in the championship game to be able to make it
- 22:32Speaker 8: there and to see the crowd and how many people
- 22:36Speaker 8: were there to support not just us, but the sport
- 22:40Speaker 8: in general, and how much they appreciated, you know, the
- 22:45Speaker 8: competition on the field and how elite both teams were.
- 22:51Speaker 8: It was a really cool situation.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Obviously, you've been involved in this game such a long time,
- 22:56Speaker 4: as Stu mentioned, two time national champ while playing at Maryland,
- 22:59Speaker 4: nine times now at Northwestern. So the first difference of
- 23:05Speaker 4: winning as a player and winning as a coach, that's
- 23:08Speaker 4: a great question.
- 23:09Speaker 10: Yeah, I would say, uh, it's like the degrees of separation.
- 23:15Speaker 10: As a player, you have the most amount of control
- 23:18Speaker 10: over your situation, so you know, if something's going wrong,
- 23:22Speaker 10: you can just go out there and make an impact
- 23:25Speaker 10: and you know, or talk to one of your teammates
- 23:29Speaker 10: and make an impact and bring energy and make an impact.
- 23:33Speaker 9: And as a.
- 23:34Speaker 8: Coach it's much harder you have to help the players
- 23:39Speaker 8: you know, understand their own greatness, understand how you know,
- 23:46Speaker 8: the way they carry themselves makes a huge difference. And
- 23:51Speaker 8: and obviously, like the strategy, it's it's it's harder, which
- 23:57Speaker 8: makes it even more satisfying. And then as like a
- 24:00Speaker 8: fan or a parent, it's even harder because you have
- 24:03Speaker 8: less of an influence, yes, and so you know you
- 24:08Speaker 8: have to kind of figure out, okay, like how can.
- 24:11Speaker 9: I make this impact to help this team?
- 24:14Speaker 8: And I actually have had all those experiences. I've had
- 24:19Speaker 8: it as a player, I've had it as a coach
- 24:21Speaker 8: and a parent, and it's just really cool to be
- 24:24Speaker 8: able to experience the highest level of sports in different
- 24:29Speaker 8: ways and figure out. I'm a big fan of like
- 24:33Speaker 8: figuring things out and figuring out how can I be
- 24:37Speaker 8: my best in this situation so I can impact the
- 24:39Speaker 8: people around me and help them be their best.
- 24:43Speaker 1: All championship pads are different, Kelly, All championship teams are different,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and this one that was certainly the case. If I
- 24:50Speaker 1: had told you after you lost to Ohio State that
- 24:53Speaker 1: you were going to win a Naesital championship on your
- 24:55Speaker 1: home field, you would have.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Told me what.
- 24:58Speaker 8: I would have said, I don't know if we're going
- 25:01Speaker 8: to make the NCAA tournament. Like I literally I just
- 25:05Speaker 8: didn't know. I just didn't know if this.
- 25:07Speaker 9: Group had it.
- 25:08Speaker 8: Like the there wasn't a full commitment to what we
- 25:13Speaker 8: believe in at that point, and I think that the
- 25:16Speaker 8: results were kind.
- 25:17Speaker 9: Of indicative of that.
- 25:19Speaker 8: And I think that like we had great leaders, but
- 25:24Speaker 8: maybe the leadership wasn't like impacting in the best way possible.
- 25:30Speaker 9: And I think we.
- 25:31Speaker 8: Just had a lot of hard conversations. And you know,
- 25:34Speaker 8: your daughter, the seniors, the fifth years, the younger players,
- 25:39Speaker 8: they all committed, the parents, they committed to what it
- 25:43Speaker 8: takes to be great, and it was just so cool
- 25:48Speaker 8: to see it come to fruition, because sometimes it doesn't
- 25:52Speaker 8: always and to see them commit to something bigger than
- 25:57Speaker 8: themselves and then to see it fruition on their home field.
- 26:03Speaker 9: I'm just so proud of them.
- 26:04Speaker 8: And they are going to carry these lessons and these
- 26:08Speaker 8: memories for the rest of their lives.
- 26:10Speaker 1: That senior class, and I know all senior classes are
- 26:13Speaker 1: very important to you, Kelly, that class in particular, in
- 26:16Speaker 1: the class of twenty six, four Big Ten championships, four
- 26:21Speaker 1: Big Ten Title game, championships, four straight appearances in the
- 26:25Speaker 1: national championship game at two final fours. Can you talk
- 26:28Speaker 1: about that group and just what they mean to you
- 26:30Speaker 1: and what they meant to that program.
- 26:34Speaker 9: Yeah, I think you know.
- 26:38Speaker 8: You actually sent me a video after the game of
- 26:42Speaker 8: one of the seniors she tore her acl in the
- 26:46Speaker 8: first quarter, and how her friends, her teammates supported her
- 26:53Speaker 8: through that, how she like supported everyone else in that
- 26:58Speaker 8: hardest moment.
- 27:00Speaker 9: It was just truly incredible. The video was.
- 27:05Speaker 8: Of them at the end of the game, when everyone
- 27:07Speaker 8: was rushing the field to celebrate her classmates.
- 27:12Speaker 9: Her friends did not leave her, and she wanted.
- 27:16Speaker 8: Them to leave and join the crew, and they ended
- 27:19Speaker 8: up carrying.
- 27:20Speaker 9: Her over there to the celebration.
- 27:23Speaker 8: I think it just epitomizes what that group is about
- 27:27Speaker 8: and how no matter what, through thick and thin, they
- 27:31Speaker 8: were going to stick together. And when you have a
- 27:34Speaker 8: group like that, it makes a lasting impact on everyone.
- 27:40Speaker 8: And you know, they certainly were a special group, and
- 27:43Speaker 8: I think they did a great job after that first
- 27:46Speaker 8: stretch really stepping up and making an impact.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Mike, You'll love this because you and I love the
- 27:52Speaker 1: same things about sports.
- 27:53Speaker 3: But Lucy did tear her.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Knee up, and she was being brought into the tent
- 27:58Speaker 1: and her three senior friends. I wouldn't even call him teammates,
- 28:01Speaker 1: just friends. They went inside the tent with her because
- 28:04Speaker 1: they were that concerned about her.
- 28:06Speaker 3: How crazy is that?
- 28:07Speaker 8: Right?
- 28:07Speaker 4: That's yes, I mean that's just teammates. Yes, friends, like
- 28:12Speaker 4: you said, Yeah, awesome.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Stuff, Kelly. I am hesitant to do this. Here is
- 28:16Speaker 1: Taylor's first question. He gets two more after this. I
- 28:19Speaker 1: think we'll see how the first one goes. But go ahead, Taylor,
- 28:22Speaker 1: fire away. She's very friendly with Bill Belichick. By the way, Kelly,
- 28:25Speaker 1: I will tell you this. Taylor went to North Carolina,
- 28:29Speaker 1: so you have the last half, no matter what. Yes,
- 28:31Speaker 1: he was a walk well, he was a track star,
- 28:33Speaker 1: and then he walked onto the football team. And I'm
- 28:35Speaker 1: telling you right now, Taylor, Kelly loves a person who
- 28:38Speaker 1: was strong enough to walk on to a Division one
- 28:41Speaker 1: football team. So she's already impressed. Don't ruin this relationship
- 28:44Speaker 1: you have with her.
- 28:45Speaker 8: Go ahead, and those are my favorite people, Taylor, Kelly.
- 28:48Speaker 5: I was also rooting for Rachel Stu Gotts. Doesn't believe
- 28:51Speaker 5: me when I say I wasn't rooting for my school.
- 28:53Speaker 5: I was rooting for Rachel. But when you took the
- 28:57Speaker 5: Northwestern job in the early two thousand and people are saying, like,
- 29:02Speaker 5: how tough it is to build Northwestern into what you've
- 29:05Speaker 5: built it. Did you have any concerns about being able
- 29:08Speaker 5: to win there? Or can you not even let those
- 29:10Speaker 5: thoughts in your mind when you have that big of
- 29:13Speaker 5: a turnaround to build?
- 29:16Speaker 8: You know, I had just come off an incredible playing
- 29:20Speaker 8: career as actually still playing when I took the job
- 29:23Speaker 8: for the USA team, and I was young.
- 29:26Speaker 9: I was only twenty.
- 29:27Speaker 8: Five, so I was young enough to think that I
- 29:30Speaker 8: could do anything that I wanted to and no one
- 29:33Speaker 8: was going to stop me.
- 29:35Speaker 9: And I've never led a thought of doubt.
- 29:37Speaker 8: I was like, Northwestern University, this is one of the
- 29:40Speaker 8: greatest universities in the world, and we are right on
- 29:45Speaker 8: the lake. We have this the most beautiful place, Like,
- 29:49Speaker 8: I know how to coach, Why can't I.
- 29:51Speaker 9: Build a champion? We can do this.
- 29:53Speaker 8: And I think it was just that, you know, almost
- 29:56Speaker 8: unrealistic optimism that started this thing and got that first
- 30:01Speaker 8: group to really believe that they could achieve anything that
- 30:05Speaker 8: they wanted to.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Mikey A is upset with Taylor because his opinion the
- 30:09Speaker 1: other day. He was he was really going at your husband,
- 30:11Speaker 1: who's my friend, Scott Hiller, he would saying, you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: he compared it to building a national championship skiing team
- 30:17Speaker 1: in Florida, which I thought.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Was the proper.
- 30:19Speaker 4: I just thought it was a little dramatic.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Taylor said it was a little dramatic, and that's really
- 30:22Speaker 1: what he wanted to ask you, Kelly heavy.
- 30:26Speaker 9: Scott.
- 30:26Speaker 8: Scotty's not He's not a dramatic guy, so that's pretty shocking.
- 30:31Speaker 9: But I would agree that might be a dramatic analogy
- 30:34Speaker 9: for sure.
- 30:37Speaker 4: I would say, so go ahead. You take over there
- 30:40Speaker 4: in two and that was your only losing record. You've
- 30:43Speaker 4: had a winning record every year. You win your first
- 30:45Speaker 4: title in O five going undefeated, you run off five
- 30:49Speaker 4: in a row and an nine going undefeated. I know
- 30:52Speaker 4: this may be hard because there's nine of them, but
- 30:56Speaker 4: difference of the first title again twenty five years ago,
- 31:01Speaker 4: and this title or twenty years ago, I should say,
- 31:04Speaker 4: and this title kind of the difference in feeling for you.
- 31:09Speaker 8: I would say that like every single person on our
- 31:12Speaker 8: team was like Taylor, like that walk On not necessarily recruited,
- 31:17Speaker 8: but had just tremendous potential. On that first team, every
- 31:24Speaker 8: single kid, no one was a name, and we just
- 31:28Speaker 8: loved each other and built something special together and really
- 31:32Speaker 8: just believed in each other. And I think, you know, now,
- 31:38Speaker 8: we've obviously got a tradition of success in our program,
- 31:41Speaker 8: and I think that there's a lot of similarities, to
- 31:45Speaker 8: be honest, to the beginnings of our program with how
- 31:50Speaker 8: this group carried themselves. But I think the athlete is
- 31:56Speaker 8: so different today than they were back then, and how
- 32:02Speaker 8: I coach, honestly is very different from when I first started.
- 32:07Speaker 8: So I would say, you know, the biggest thing that
- 32:11Speaker 8: I'm most proud of, I would say these two championships,
- 32:14Speaker 8: my first and this one were so so special, and
- 32:19Speaker 8: just being able to see the difference in how we've
- 32:23Speaker 8: grown the sport and how we've grown the following in
- 32:26Speaker 8: the Midwest and beyond, that's probably the coolest part to
- 32:31Speaker 8: compare the two championships.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Kelly, I know, one of the big things you and
- 32:35Speaker 1: Scottie preach is you never know when we're going to
- 32:37Speaker 1: call your number. And so back to Lucy, who went down,
- 32:42Speaker 1: you called Gabby's number number nine. She's a freshman and
- 32:45Speaker 1: she was a bit up and down, but everyone could
- 32:47Speaker 1: see the talent. You called her number in a national
- 32:50Speaker 1: championship game. She's a freshman and she delivers four goals
- 32:54Speaker 1: in the second half.
- 32:55Speaker 3: It was so cool to see. You had to be
- 32:56Speaker 3: so proud of that moment.
- 32:59Speaker 8: Yeah, it was incredible. I would say that's pretty accurate. Like,
- 33:03Speaker 8: I think we saw Gabby's talent, but it wasn't it
- 33:07Speaker 8: wasn't very consistent. I think she was struggling to bind
- 33:11Speaker 8: her mindset and her right mentality. And I think that's
- 33:15Speaker 8: back to that senior class and the older players, like
- 33:18Speaker 8: they were really helping her and mentoring her, and you know,
- 33:22Speaker 8: the coaching staff as well, and you know, I think
- 33:26Speaker 8: that she just kept kept plugging away. And I actually
- 33:30Speaker 8: have the opportunity to work with her every day just
- 33:32Speaker 8: because I'm on the draw with her, and I could
- 33:35Speaker 8: just see, like the week of the Final four, we
- 33:40Speaker 8: were doing draws and I was like, Gabby, if you
- 33:42Speaker 8: want to go shoot, you can go shoot, and She's like, no,
- 33:46Speaker 8: I want to stay there, stay here.
- 33:47Speaker 9: I just love this. I love working with you guys.
- 33:51Speaker 8: And she knew that it was probably not an opportunity
- 33:54Speaker 8: or not not much of an opportunity for her to
- 33:57Speaker 8: be on the draw in that game. But I think
- 33:59Speaker 8: she just found a way to like love the process
- 34:03Speaker 8: and that's really where the sweet spot is. And I'd
- 34:06Speaker 8: like to believe that is how she was able to
- 34:09Speaker 8: step into that game and have that level of success.
- 34:13Speaker 8: It wasn't a singular thing. It wasn't just her. It
- 34:16Speaker 8: was a lot of people that contributed to that.
- 34:18Speaker 1: All right, we'll get you out here in just a
- 34:19Speaker 1: second question number two for Taylor.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Go ahead, Kelly.
- 34:22Speaker 5: I feel like the true sign of a successful program
- 34:25Speaker 5: is when you have assistants leave to become head coaches
- 34:28Speaker 5: elsewhere and try to re establish that culture that they had.
- 34:32Speaker 5: If you had an assistant coach leave, would you consider
- 34:35Speaker 5: Stu Gotts for an opening because he was the big
- 34:37Speaker 5: man on campus that she's a Clark University.
- 34:39Speaker 3: I'm sorry, you're fired.
- 34:43Speaker 9: I would say that.
- 34:45Speaker 8: I think having a player on the team, I think
- 34:50Speaker 8: that would be really challenging, honestly, like we try to
- 34:54Speaker 8: consider maybe.
- 34:55Speaker 9: Having our own daughter on the team.
- 34:58Speaker 8: But ultimately, like I'm so happy that she chose a
- 35:02Speaker 8: different path because I think it just would have put
- 35:05Speaker 8: a lot more pressure on her.
- 35:08Speaker 9: And I think if Stu came and coach with us.
- 35:13Speaker 8: I think it would put additional pressure on Rachel. And
- 35:16Speaker 8: I think she's just such a phenomenal girl and leader
- 35:19Speaker 8: in this program that I would want her to have
- 35:23Speaker 8: the best possible experience.
- 35:25Speaker 9: And I think that might be without him.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Wow, that's a great That is such a nice answer,
- 35:31Speaker 4: because you fire him after day one.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Listen, Kelly knows this, Lord knows. I tried. Kelly was right,
- 35:40Speaker 1: and she did a joy it more than had I.
- 35:43Speaker 3: With me not being there, had I been there.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I'm not going to let let Taylor ask a third
- 35:47Speaker 1: question because that one was dicey, and so I have
- 35:49Speaker 1: done with you. Kelly, Thank you so much. Congratulations to you.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Thank you for a wonderful weekend. There were so many
- 35:55Speaker 1: emotional moments and they all came courtesy of you, your staff,
- 36:00Speaker 1: everyone at Northwestern. It was a wonderful weekend. And congratulations
- 36:03Speaker 1: nine national championships. Kelly, your coach k I mean, seriously,
- 36:07Speaker 1: get your chefsky out of here.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Coach Ky you.
- 36:11Speaker 8: Well, thank you guys for the laughs today.
- 36:14Speaker 9: It was awesome being on here.
- 36:16Speaker 8: And in all seriousness now, thank you so much for
- 36:19Speaker 8: being a great parent of our program and and all
- 36:22Speaker 8: that you do to support us. You're there every everywhere
- 36:26Speaker 8: we turn, and that means a ton to us. So
- 36:29Speaker 8: thank you so much.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Well, that's very kind of you. Thank you, Kelly. We
- 36:31Speaker 3: appreciate it.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Taylor's third question was he's not happy with Belichick. He
- 36:35Speaker 1: knows you're very friendly with Belichick. If you have a
- 36:37Speaker 1: spot on the coaching staff Northwestern, can you get Belichick
- 36:40Speaker 1: out of Carolina and to Northwestern?
- 36:42Speaker 4: Can you do texting with him?
- 36:44Speaker 8: The other day he said, everything is great. They're undefeated
- 36:47Speaker 8: right now, so everything is fantastic.
- 36:51Speaker 1: All right, Kelly, congratulations again and we appreciate everything.
- 36:55Speaker 3: We'll talk to you soon.
- 36:57Speaker 1: All right, go CAATs, all right, Golach earns the radio,
- 37:00Speaker 1: and we have a no hitter in progress some of that.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Uh, hey, the news is the Guardians winning though lead
- 37:06Speaker 4: in the central right now, okay, my Cleveland Guardians, right.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, How do you feel about a combined no hitter, Mike,
- 37:13Speaker 1: because in my personal record book, a combined no hitter
- 37:17Speaker 1: is not a no hitter.
- 37:18Speaker 4: It's just well, I'm sure the team that throws the
- 37:21Speaker 4: combined no hitter really gives a damn about your feelings
- 37:24Speaker 4: toward a combined no hitter. Listen, a no hitter obviously
- 37:30Speaker 4: goes to the pitcher, right, but it's still a team
- 37:33Speaker 4: effort because they're not all strikeouts, right. There's hits to
- 37:37Speaker 4: the field, there's sometimes there's unbelievable plays to save a
- 37:40Speaker 4: no hitter. So while it doesn't have the juice of
- 37:43Speaker 4: one pitcher going a complete game, because that's almost unheard
- 37:46Speaker 4: of in Major League Baseball, now, to me as a
- 37:50Speaker 4: former athlete, I'm still gonna say it's a great feat.
- 37:53Speaker 4: How about those Guardians?
- 37:55Speaker 7: Mike first to top the Al Central banner week for
- 37:57Speaker 7: Cleveland Sports.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Eh, he's giving him a lunk on the first lounk.
- 38:07Speaker 4: What the hell is that, Mikey? Yeah?
- 38:10Speaker 1: Wait wait, first segment, first segment, Mikey, it was a
- 38:13Speaker 1: Saints and megeez.
- 38:15Speaker 4: That wasn't even a knife in the back. That was
- 38:17Speaker 4: a stare me right in the face, a knife me
- 38:19Speaker 4: in the chest. Geez. Hey, don't worry. Cleveland's got Lebron
- 38:24Speaker 4: James coming next year. And if you believe that, I
- 38:27Speaker 4: got a lot of land for you to buy, he
- 38:29Speaker 4: ain't coming to Cleveland.
- 38:30Speaker 3: You always have the Browns right around the corner. Mike.
- 38:35Speaker 3: It just gets worse, how did.
- 38:39Speaker 1: You feel about Travis Kelsey chugging a beer court side
- 38:43Speaker 1: at the Calves game and then he doesn't show up
- 38:45Speaker 1: for game four?
- 38:45Speaker 3: I mean, howf of that? Huh?
- 38:47Speaker 4: I will I will never never disparage a person for
- 38:51Speaker 4: chugging a beer. I am a renowned beer chugger. I
- 38:54Speaker 4: can chug a beer with the best of them, And
- 38:57Speaker 4: if there's an opportunity camera or no camera to chug
- 39:00Speaker 4: a beer, I will chug said beer. It's amazing. But listen,
- 39:04Speaker 4: when you're in the stratosphere that Taylor Swift and Travis
- 39:07Speaker 4: Kelcey are, everything gets ripped apart from chugging a beer
- 39:11Speaker 4: to the clothes he's wearing. I mean, you just have
- 39:13Speaker 4: to put on blinders to what people say.
- 39:16Speaker 1: It was interesting because to see Taylor and her not
- 39:20Speaker 1: be the focal point, meaning most of the fans there
- 39:23Speaker 1: just wanted to see Kelsey and didn't care about Taylor,
- 39:26Speaker 1: and she seemed to enjoy that very very much.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Oh, I would think, so. I mean, Stu, you know this,
- 39:31Speaker 4: You're you're in the spotlight all the time. You got
- 39:34Speaker 4: to like when you can just blend into the background, right, Yes, Yes,
- 39:38Speaker 4: it's the greatest.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Yes, like Bill Walton at the Mike and Mike Wedding,
- 39:44Speaker 1: I don't like talking to people.
- 39:46Speaker 3: I mean, put it on the pole.
- 39:48Speaker 4: That is amazing. We talk for a living, yet we
- 39:50Speaker 4: don't really like talking to people outside of this.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I know.
- 39:53Speaker 1: It's just uh, no one talks for two hours consecutively,
- 39:58Speaker 1: like the way we're always try trying to advance a
- 40:00Speaker 1: conversation forward and so you're just exhausted and drained afterwards.
- 40:05Speaker 3: It's hard to explain what's that like.
- 40:07Speaker 1: But Mike, I'm wondering when, throughout your storied career, when
- 40:11Speaker 1: did you realize that the things you were saying into
- 40:13Speaker 1: a microphone the teams didn't care about because you were
- 40:15Speaker 1: so right about me saying what I said and the
- 40:18Speaker 1: team not caring about what it is I said. But
- 40:20Speaker 1: we all like to think our opinions matter and they
- 40:23Speaker 1: really don't.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Well, it's amazing. When I first got out of the
- 40:27Speaker 4: league and was doing NFL Tonight, which is not NFL Live,
- 40:31Speaker 4: was NFL Tonight with me, Mark Malone, Sewn Salisbury and
- 40:35Speaker 4: Merrill Hodge. Wow, So what happened there is I would
- 40:39Speaker 4: do that show during the week and then I would
- 40:42Speaker 4: go cover a game on the weekend, and it wasn't
- 40:45Speaker 4: so much fans caring about it, but players. If I
- 40:49Speaker 4: said something in a negative way, or I ripped a player,
- 40:53Speaker 4: but you know, was an analyst and called a player
- 40:56Speaker 4: out from missing this or doing that, I would hear
- 40:59Speaker 4: it from said player. If I go cover their game,
- 41:02Speaker 4: they would and I would say, listen, I try and
- 41:05Speaker 4: make sure I know what I'm talking about. If I'm wrong,
- 41:08Speaker 4: tell me I'm wrong. They just don't like a former
- 41:11Speaker 4: player ripping a current player. And that's one of the
- 41:13Speaker 4: hardest things as any athlete in any sport going into
- 41:17Speaker 4: the broadcasting business, you have to get over that hump
- 41:20Speaker 4: of I now have to criticize people for doing what
- 41:23Speaker 4: I made a living doing. Sure, but after a while, yeah,
- 41:28Speaker 4: you just you just you're like, oh, should I have
- 41:30Speaker 4: said that? And then you're like, who cares? They don't care.
- 41:35Speaker 4: They don't care. I don't care, they don't care.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I had to tell Mike Francesa once because he and
- 41:41Speaker 1: Chris Russo believed at one point and their powers. They
- 41:44Speaker 1: had listen Maximum Powers in the biggest market in the world,
- 41:47Speaker 1: the highest rated show, but they thought they could get
- 41:50Speaker 1: a Yankee manager fired. And I told them, Mike, You're
- 41:52Speaker 1: not getting a Yankee manager fired. If they want to
- 41:54Speaker 1: fire them, it's not because of you. They're just going
- 41:56Speaker 1: to fire them, you know.
- 41:57Speaker 4: But it is amazing in the era we live in,
- 42:01Speaker 4: which listen, if this is how people want to do shows,
- 42:04Speaker 4: there is more broadcaster on broadcaster crime than I have
- 42:09Speaker 4: ever seen in this interesting industry. Everybody's picking a fight
- 42:13Speaker 4: with everybody else behind the camera. I'm like, what are
- 42:16Speaker 4: we doing?
- 42:17Speaker 1: Yes, yes, we're very sensitive as broadcasters.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I like to rip people, but God forbid someone rip us.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Oh my god, no, nobody do that.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well yeah, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
- 42:31Speaker 1: Speaking of your Guardian det Travis Kelcey, he purchased a
- 42:35Speaker 1: minority state in that team, which is interesting.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Mike, you're happy about that, I'm assuming, right, Well, I.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Mean they're actually there are a number of football players
- 42:47Speaker 4: or I mean basketball players that are minority owners now.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Travis obviously a football player, minority in the Guardians, Lebron James,
- 42:55Speaker 4: minority owner of the Red Sox, Janis Hantetokoupo minority owner
- 42:58Speaker 4: of Milwaukee, Kate Cunningham minority owner of the Rangers, and
- 43:04Speaker 4: mahomes Is a minority owner of Kansas City. So I mean,
- 43:08Speaker 4: that's that's kind of the thing to do. Now you
- 43:10Speaker 4: see other ballplayers minority owner and soccer clubs. Mahomes and
- 43:14Speaker 4: Travis are my minority owners in Alpine Formula F one
- 43:18Speaker 4: Formula one as well. I always thought it'd be cool
- 43:23Speaker 4: to be a minority owner. It's just a matter of what,
- 43:27Speaker 4: Like you, Stull, would you would you want to be
- 43:30Speaker 4: if you had the means the minority owner of the Jets.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Wow, oh that's a great question. I'd like to think
- 43:38Speaker 1: I could make a difference.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no no.
- 43:41Speaker 3: So I don't have.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Any say So you say, okay.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Do you have any power? Power?
- 43:48Speaker 1: So you're making this like Venus and Serena Williams, they
- 43:50Speaker 1: were once owners of the Dolphins.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Stu has himself going to scout quarterbacks.
- 43:54Speaker 4: That's what the player I just mentioned. They don't. They
- 43:58Speaker 4: don't have any power. Not Tom Brady does with the Raiders,
- 44:01Speaker 4: but these guys don't with their baseball teams. You just
- 44:05Speaker 4: you just have the joy of sitting in an owner's
- 44:07Speaker 4: box as a minority owner of a team.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Okay, would it be the Jets or would it be
- 44:12Speaker 3: somebody else. I don't want to sit with Woody Johnson.
- 44:14Speaker 3: I mean, I just I don't.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I have no desire to sit with that man. He
- 44:17Speaker 1: has made my life a misery. I mean for forty years.
- 44:21Speaker 3: I don't want to sit with him.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Would you not want to be minority owner then, because
- 44:26Speaker 4: you'd have to, you know, converse with him?
- 44:28Speaker 1: Well, I just said, I don't like talking. Do I
- 44:32Speaker 1: have to sit in the box? Do I have to
- 44:34Speaker 1: sit in the owner's box.
- 44:37Speaker 4: The Jets?
- 44:38Speaker 1: Okay, Mikey, would you like that as a Jet fan?
- 44:41Speaker 1: Because I'm trying to think, are you saying I can
- 44:43Speaker 1: only pick one team here?
- 44:45Speaker 4: On one team in any sport, any pro sport, you
- 44:48Speaker 4: can be the minority owner of. Who would you pick?
- 44:50Speaker 3: Wow, it's such a good question, Mikey. Would you want
- 44:53Speaker 3: to be an owner of the Jets?
- 44:55Speaker 4: Not the Jets?
- 44:56Speaker 7: No, there's there's definitely a few teams. What I would
- 44:59Speaker 7: want to do was you don't want like the highest
- 45:02Speaker 7: of the high in in in each sport, because then
- 45:05Speaker 7: you're you're gonna you're gonna get kind of lost, Like, Oh,
- 45:07Speaker 7: you're a minority owner of the Yankees and you want
- 45:09Speaker 7: to sit in the box sorry, it's booked, you know.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Like right, yes, try again.
- 45:14Speaker 7: Yes, you know, we can give you the game against
- 45:16Speaker 7: you know, the Phillies in three months.
- 45:19Speaker 4: So I wouldn't want the Yankees.
- 45:21Speaker 7: I'm trying to think of like a team that's good enough,
- 45:23Speaker 7: but like not quite that. Like I was thinking maybe
- 45:26Speaker 7: the Tampa Bay Bucks, like a team that could be good,
- 45:29Speaker 7: but isn't so big that you could get the box
- 45:32Speaker 7: when you wanted it.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Yep, so much so that Todd Bowles never gets fired.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I mean, it just keeps getting extensions.
- 45:38Speaker 4: So I would think a return on investment, it would
- 45:42Speaker 4: be an NFL team, right sure, because they they they
- 45:46Speaker 4: are the ones that seemed to jump the most. But
- 45:49Speaker 4: you know, yeah, I always thought that interesting. You know,
- 45:52Speaker 4: who would you want to be in a minority owner?
- 45:54Speaker 5: Yes, so prisoner of the moment for me would be
- 45:57Speaker 5: the Knicks. But I'm gonna I'm gonna take make out
- 46:00Speaker 5: my favorite teams just because it feels like almost too
- 46:03Speaker 5: easy of an answer. Yankees, Knicks, Uh, and I'm gonna
- 46:08Speaker 5: go I'm gonna stay in baseball, Golick. And I'm gonna
- 46:11Speaker 5: say the Cubs.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Wow, that's not a bad one. That's a good one
- 46:16Speaker 4: and a bad one.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean the Knicks you're sitting, you know,
- 46:20Speaker 1: with James Dolan. By the way, thank you to James
- 46:22Speaker 1: Dolan for finally staying out of the way, just shutting up,
- 46:25Speaker 1: hiring Leon Rose, letting Leon Rose do the business of basketball,
- 46:29Speaker 1: put together this basketball team. And thank you to Leon
- 46:32Speaker 1: Rose for not speaking to the media because the Knicks
- 46:35Speaker 1: are in the NBA Finals and four games away from
- 46:38Speaker 1: winning an NBA title. And I'm not saying that those
- 46:42Speaker 1: guys being quiet has anything to do with it, but
- 46:44Speaker 1: it certainly helps. So thank you for allowing me to
- 46:47Speaker 1: thank James Dolan and Leon Rose for simply shutting up.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 46:54Speaker 4: Rose on the show.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Yeah well yeah, yeah, he's not talking to anyone.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Yes, Speaking of week of ownership, my wife had always
- 47:02Speaker 4: said she either wanted to be Vana White or part
- 47:05Speaker 4: owner of the of the Bears. Those were her because
- 47:07Speaker 4: she's from Chicago. Those were her two things.
- 47:09Speaker 1: I got to tell you this and she and she
- 47:11Speaker 1: ended up marrying me. Well, missus Bolck isn't bad. I mean,
- 47:14Speaker 1: it's a nice consolation prize, huh is it? You've done
- 47:19Speaker 1: pretty well for yourself, Mike. You could actually be an
- 47:23Speaker 1: owner of one of these teams if you wanted to.
- 47:25Speaker 4: I mean, oh yeah, you want to talk about the
- 47:28Speaker 4: most minority of owner. Yeah, they would still have me
- 47:31Speaker 4: selling tickets, all.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Right, So what team would you go with, Mike? Which team?
- 47:34Speaker 4: If you I don't know, I mean you would think
- 47:39Speaker 4: I would pick my my hometown Cleveland. You know, I'm
- 47:43Speaker 4: a football Guy'd be probably be a football team, right
- 47:47Speaker 4: because listen, I love wrestling as well. I wrestled in college,
- 47:51Speaker 4: but there's no like pro I mean WWE. But I
- 47:55Speaker 4: I I if it wasn't you know, maybe the Eagles
- 48:00Speaker 4: because that's where where I played the most. Yeah, maybe,
- 48:04Speaker 4: And then you know, and then I get, you know,
- 48:06Speaker 4: Philly cheese steaks free for the rest of my life,
- 48:08Speaker 4: which would be cool? Be cool?
- 48:10Speaker 3: Always thinking with your stomach? Yeah yeah, yeah, well yeah,
- 48:13Speaker 3: you're a goal.
- 48:14Speaker 4: With That's probably where I would initially lean.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Okay, Taylor, do you have your team yet? Like do
- 48:22Speaker 3: we have?
- 48:23Speaker 1: I'm thinking I'm thinking the Knicks. It has to be
- 48:25Speaker 1: the Knicks at this point.
- 48:26Speaker 5: Like, So for me and why I really want to
- 48:28Speaker 5: eliminate my teams is I don't want to be hated
- 48:31Speaker 5: by my fan base, which is why I was also
- 48:33Speaker 5: expanding to the cubs, like I don't like to talk
- 48:36Speaker 5: to people, but I don't like to not.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Be liked to.
- 48:39Speaker 3: All Right, it's fair.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Let's play do me a favor here, I was sam,
- 48:44Speaker 1: give me the music please, all right, Mike, we go
- 48:49Speaker 1: around the room here, it's really a take, and just
- 48:53Speaker 1: figure out a place to weave in. Do me a favor,
- 48:58Speaker 1: just the longest short of it.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Let's go to uh, let's go to Mike e a
- 49:03Speaker 3: first on this round of do me a favor again.
- 49:09Speaker 4: All Right, I am somebody.
- 49:10Speaker 7: Who likes a clean phone. I do not like a
- 49:13Speaker 7: lot of messages. I do not like a lot of
- 49:15Speaker 7: unread emails. So all these apps, do me a favor
- 49:20Speaker 7: if you put the little red dot saying I have
- 49:23Speaker 7: a notification, tell me where it is.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Okay, because I'm sick of seeing the little red dot.
- 49:28Speaker 4: And I open the.
- 49:29Speaker 7: App and I can't find what you're trying to tell
- 49:31Speaker 7: me and I can't get rid of the little red dot,
- 49:34Speaker 7: and it's just mocking me from my phone, like, hey,
- 49:37Speaker 7: there's something you're missing in this app and you can't
- 49:39Speaker 7: find it.
- 49:39Speaker 4: Yep, do me a favor. Get rid of it.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you said, I gotta tell you sound as old
- 49:44Speaker 1: as I do. And that's because we're the same age.
- 49:46Speaker 7: Of course, right, yes, yes, that's because I'm closer to
- 49:49Speaker 7: Tailor's age.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Videers, Mike, Mike, do you know I thought me and
- 49:54Speaker 1: Mike Ea, who I've known for fifteen years now, I
- 49:56Speaker 1: thought we were the same age.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Seriously, even knew you weren't the same age. I mean,
- 50:02Speaker 4: mikey a's what two three years older than you. I
- 50:06Speaker 4: deserve that. I deserve that before and you know what
- 50:09Speaker 4: hit my hat. That's a Hall of Famer Mike.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll love this. This is why I love this
- 50:13Speaker 1: family so much. Okay, I mean, I'm an unofficial part
- 50:16Speaker 1: of this family.
- 50:17Speaker 3: I'm Table one at the wedding. I'm expecting it. At least.
- 50:20Speaker 1: I'm three quarters of the way through Mike Golick Junior's
- 50:23Speaker 1: best man speech. But there was a time where Mike
- 50:25Speaker 1: Golick Junior had to pull me aside and say, listen,
- 50:28Speaker 1: you were a lot closer in age to my dad
- 50:30Speaker 1: than you ordered me. And what he was trying to
- 50:32Speaker 1: tell me is he's the guy you should be friends with,
- 50:34Speaker 1: not me.
- 50:37Speaker 4: But you did more stuff with my son than you
- 50:40Speaker 4: did with me when you guys did like the marathon,
- 50:43Speaker 4: the yes marathon. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, You've done way
- 50:49Speaker 4: more stuff with him.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Yes, it's why I'm not going on the Bachelor Party.
- 50:52Speaker 3: I mean, I just I have no doubt. I'm paying
- 50:54Speaker 3: for it. Me and you, we're both paying for it. Yes.
- 50:56Speaker 4: Yeah, there you go, and I won't be there.
- 50:58Speaker 3: I'll be I want to go to sleep. Let's go
- 51:01Speaker 3: to tail it.
- 51:01Speaker 4: Don't blame me.
- 51:02Speaker 5: Yeah, thank you, Bryce Harper, do me a favor and
- 51:06Speaker 5: apply toothpaste like a normal person. I don't know if
- 51:08Speaker 5: you guys saw that video going around of Bryce Harper,
- 51:11Speaker 5: what's doing? He posted a TikTok. He takes his toothpaste.
- 51:15Speaker 5: This wasn't even the point of the TikTok. It was
- 51:17Speaker 5: just kind of a byproduct of the video. He takes
- 51:20Speaker 5: toothpaste and he just applies it into his mouth instead
- 51:23Speaker 5: of putting it on the toothbrush. First what it was
- 51:28Speaker 5: psychotic behavior, Taylor.
- 51:30Speaker 4: I'm not gonna lie. I saw it, and I'm like, huh,
- 51:35Speaker 4: don't have a problem with it. Really, I've ever seen
- 51:39Speaker 4: the end reason. Wait a minute, the end result is
- 51:43Speaker 4: the same. There is toothpaste in your mouth is getting
- 51:46Speaker 4: brushed onto your teeth and gums. It's just the the
- 51:49Speaker 4: initial process. There's no difference. He he ate the toothpaste
- 51:55Speaker 4: like he was sucking a jolly rancher, like it went.
- 51:57Speaker 4: It didn't go on his teeth, It went in his mouth.
- 52:00Speaker 3: Like it tongue.
- 52:01Speaker 4: He put it in his mouth, and then he used
- 52:04Speaker 4: his toothbrush and moved it around like you normally would
- 52:08Speaker 4: move toothpaste around.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Did he put water on the toothbrush? There needs to
- 52:11Speaker 3: be a buffer. You don't just put toothpaste in your mouth.
- 52:13Speaker 4: I mean that. I don't know. I don't know if
- 52:16Speaker 4: I saw water on the toothbrush.
- 52:18Speaker 5: Everybody was too focused on just how he applied the toothpaste.
- 52:22Speaker 4: Yeah. At first I wasn't sure what he was doing,
- 52:25Speaker 4: quite honestly. Uh. And then I thought, okay, all right,
- 52:29Speaker 4: I thought, end result is the same process is a
- 52:32Speaker 4: little different.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Wait, so he squirted it right out of the tube
- 52:36Speaker 3: into his mouth.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, yes, and then and then brushed it.
- 52:41Speaker 4: It's weird. It was weird. Yeah, I'll give you that.
- 52:44Speaker 4: It was because because it wasn't it was out of
- 52:46Speaker 4: the norm. Yes, But again, the end result I think
- 52:49Speaker 4: was the same.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go to bardout Ricardo. Uh bordoup Ricardo, go ahead?
- 52:54Speaker 1: Were prying him away from day baseball?
- 52:57Speaker 3: Bardout Ricardo, go ahead. It was cute at first, but
- 53:00Speaker 3: do me a favor.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Enough with the tarps off sections in baseball, it's a clown.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Shot, Mike, like that one. Thank you for taking your
- 53:10Speaker 3: eyes off the television screen for a minute. Thank you.
- 53:12Speaker 4: I always wished I was in a position to take
- 53:16Speaker 4: my shirt off in public, and even in the best
- 53:19Speaker 4: shape I was in in the NFL, I could not
- 53:21Speaker 4: take my shirt off in public, and that always bummed
- 53:23Speaker 4: me out.
- 53:24Speaker 3: All right, go ahead, go like you're up.
- 53:26Speaker 4: All right, what's the segment called again?
- 53:29Speaker 3: Do me a favor?
- 53:30Speaker 4: Yes, Okes, I love you. This one is for everybody
- 53:35Speaker 4: out there, because everybody uses this for the most part,
- 53:40Speaker 4: Do me a favor. Stop calling it a ten minute
- 53:44Speaker 4: oil change when it's never a ten minute oil change. Okay.
- 53:49Speaker 4: I've owned a lot of different cars in my life,
- 53:52Speaker 4: and I've got an oil change in all of them,
- 53:54Speaker 4: and it takes freaking twenty minutes to a half hour
- 53:57Speaker 4: every time. I don't know where these ten minutes oil
- 54:00Speaker 4: changes occur. I hear commercials for them all the time.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I pull in half hour later, I'm looking at my
- 54:06Speaker 4: watch saying, where's the ten minute oil change? And I
- 54:09Speaker 4: hear some kind of an excuse on why it's not
- 54:12Speaker 4: a ten minute oil change. Stop advertising ten minute oil
- 54:16Speaker 4: change when you can't get it done in ten minutes.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Yep, it's like New York.
- 54:20Speaker 4: It's never just an oil change.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Never.
- 54:22Speaker 1: And it's also like New York pizza. In every city
- 54:24Speaker 1: it's not New York pizza. It's just a tool to
- 54:26Speaker 1: get you inside the building. Mic that's all it is.
- 54:28Speaker 1: It's ten minutes. You'll be here for ten minutes in
- 54:30Speaker 1: and out, and you know you're not gonna be and
- 54:32Speaker 1: you fall for it every time. It's on you, it's
- 54:34Speaker 1: not on them. I gotta be honest with you.
- 54:38Speaker 4: Well, as they're advertising that, I'm believing the advertisement, but
- 54:43Speaker 4: I'm done believing the advertisement. I go there knowing it's
- 54:45Speaker 4: a half hour of my time. That was a great one.
- 54:47Speaker 4: That was a great one. It was so good.
- 54:49Speaker 3: He's a Hall of Famer. I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 54:51Speaker 1: Everyone who's not a Nick fan, do me a favor.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Stop being a Nick fan.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Peter Schrager, Reggie Miller.
- 54:58Speaker 1: All these people coming out of the wood word, we
- 55:00Speaker 1: don't want you.
- 55:01Speaker 3: You spent the last two decades laughing at us. You
- 55:04Speaker 3: know what we don't want.
- 55:05Speaker 1: We don't want the people laughing at us now cheering
- 55:08Speaker 1: with us and cheering for our team.
- 55:10Speaker 3: Do us a favor, Do us all a favor. They're
- 55:13Speaker 3: our team, they're not yours.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Let us enjoy this.
- 55:16Speaker 3: You cannot enjoy it. Do me a favor.
- 55:20Speaker 1: All non Nick fans, don't tell me now that you're
- 55:24Speaker 1: a Nick fan.
- 55:25Speaker 3: We don't want you.
