- 0:00This is Scott Becker with the Becker's healthcare
- 0:02podcast.
- 0:03Today's discussion is 10 stories that we're following
- 0:06this morning at Becker's healthcare.
- 0:08Some of these give a feel for what's
- 0:10going on in healthcare, and some of these
- 0:11are just really interesting. So the first story
- 0:14is LeapFrog
- 0:16limit grades to survey participants after a court
- 0:19loss. So, essentially, LeapFrog
- 0:22was giving grades to health systems who didn't
- 0:24complete their survey,
- 0:26and then grading those systems very negatively based
- 0:29on not completing the survey or putting in
- 0:31or at least partly
- 0:32grades based on that. A judge told me
- 0:34they can't do that.
- 0:36WePrague now will only grade health systems that
- 0:39actually participate in their surveys.
- 0:42Second,
- 0:43Fitch, the bond rating agency,
- 0:45downgrades a Missouri health care system. Again, this
- 0:48is always scary given how challenging health care
- 0:51is in at least 40% of the health
- 0:53systems that are losing money. But that's again,
- 0:55Fitch downgrading a Missouri health system.
- 0:58Third,
- 0:59Alan Condon reports on 14 health systems that
- 1:02are getting larger. Again, another story about a
- 1:04health system getting larger coming out today. We're
- 1:07in embargo. We'll talk about that later, but
- 1:09but more and more, watching large health systems
- 1:12trying to get bigger.
- 1:14Fourth, I was thrilled last week to talk
- 1:16with Vic Schurmach Schmurback,
- 1:18the CEO of Emerus Holdings,
- 1:21about their model,
- 1:23expanding neighborhood hospitals to improve access and affordability
- 1:26in health care with Vic Schmurback.
- 1:28Was really a pleasure to visit with Vic.
- 1:31Fifth,
- 1:32Eli Lilly is launching a new type of
- 1:34zepbound.
- 1:35This story was reported by Erica Carbrau Sarrutti.
- 1:39A special shout out to Erica, just a
- 1:41tremendous journalist and professional.
- 1:43Sixth, Kelly Gooch covers seven of the health
- 1:46care billionaires on the Forbes list. Again, fascinating
- 1:49to watch what's going on there and those
- 1:51that hit it out of the park in
- 1:52health care.
- 1:54Seventh,
- 1:56a great list of hospitals and health systems
- 1:58cutting jobs. That's put together by Kelly Gooch
- 2:00and Kristen Kuchno, and it covers all the
- 2:03hospital cell systems that reportedly cut jobs in
- 2:052026
- 2:06year to date.
- 2:09Eighth, Striker
- 2:10the Striker cyberattacks
- 2:12are tied to Iran.
- 2:14There's an article on that by Naomi Diaz
- 2:16today. And, again, it's a scary thing in
- 2:18health care when you see these state actors
- 2:20going after health care companies, health care systems,
- 2:22and more.
- 2:24Ninth, we had the brilliant chance to interview
- 2:27world class hip replacement surgeon Rafi Basyal,
- 2:30vice chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at
- 2:32Endeavor Health on the Becker's Health Care podcast
- 2:34recently that was released just shortly.
- 2:38Tenth, I'll note, I'm thrilled to interview Mark
- 2:40Cuban at the upcoming Becker's Healthcare annual meeting.
- 2:44Should be a great pleasure.
- 2:45Finally, I'll give a PS.
- 2:47There's a Starbucks that we visit in Florida,
- 2:50and and no Starbucks has a better team
- 2:52than the Starbucks on PGA Boulevard in Florida,
- 2:55the most enthusiastic
- 2:57and efficient and positive group of baristas I've
- 3:00ever seen in my life. So god bless
- 3:01you all. Thank you for listening to the
- 3:03Becker's Healthcare Podcast. We hope people enjoy this.
- 3:06We hope they enjoy the note about the
- 3:08Starbucks near us. Thank you for listening, and
- 3:10and thank you for joining us the annual
- 3:12meeting and everything else that our audience does.
