- 0:00Speaker 1: This is all most Famous Beyond the Bachelor with Susie Evans.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey, guys, and welcome back to Beyond the Bachelor. This
- 0:09Speaker 2: is your host, Susie Evans. Today I'm joined by Clay Walker,
- 0:14Speaker 2: who was on Ben Flanni's season of the Bachelor. I
- 0:17Speaker 2: personally did not watch this episode, so I'm really excited
- 0:19Speaker 2: because rumor has it that on the episode, Clay serenades
- 0:24Speaker 2: one couple and Emily's competitive strategy causes a firestorm. So
- 0:29Speaker 2: we're going to get the scoop today on this episode.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm going into it a little blind because I have
- 0:35Speaker 2: not seen that episode, but I'm really excited to learn
- 0:38Speaker 2: all the behind the scenes details and everything that he
- 0:40Speaker 2: can share with us.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Hey, Susie, how you doing this morning?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Hi?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I'm good. How are you great?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Thank you for having me on.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Rumor has it when you performed on the show, it
- 0:53Speaker 2: kind of stirred up a bit of drama or possibly
- 0:56Speaker 2: there was some dramatics happening in that house around that time.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Do you have any Do you have any memories of
- 1:04Speaker 2: this or behind the scenes infant that you want to
- 1:06Speaker 2: start to show off with and tell us.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Me in my own house, Are there house.
- 1:09Speaker 3: No, no.
- 1:11Speaker 2: In the Bachelor House, well, I.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You know, I I just remember the show being really
- 1:19Speaker 1: really well done and that uh, you know, the girl
- 1:23Speaker 1: who was on the show was a was a fan
- 1:27Speaker 1: of mine and so the Bachelor wanting to surprise her,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and it did in a great way. And I don't
- 1:33Speaker 1: know how they kept it a surprise, you know, that long,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but it's hard to keep surprises. But I I can
- 1:40Speaker 1: remember the it was in Colorado. It's been it's been
- 1:43Speaker 1: a minute, but I think the whole the whole group
- 1:47Speaker 1: was very excited, you know, for the performance, and the
- 1:52Speaker 1: song was big at the time, and so she won't
- 1:55Speaker 1: be longly long and but I I I want to
- 2:00Speaker 1: say that her favorite song was maybe Hypnotize the Moon.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That may have been it, but like I said, it's
- 2:07Speaker 1: been a while, so I maybe get that wrong. But
- 2:09Speaker 1: both of them were over the top and super hospitable
- 2:13Speaker 1: and super excited. And I thought that the crew and
- 2:18Speaker 1: the production team were quite amazing, you know. And a
- 2:22Speaker 1: lot of times, you know, those things can be so
- 2:24Speaker 1: cheesy or just you know, just feel weird, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but that felt felt right.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Oh, that's so cool.
- 2:32Speaker 2: It's got to be so unique to be able to
- 2:35Speaker 2: showcase your music on a reality show. I'm sure it's
- 2:38Speaker 2: very different from what you normally experience whether you're touring
- 2:41Speaker 2: or recording music. How did this opportunity come about and
- 2:45Speaker 2: what was your initial reaction when you either received the
- 2:49Speaker 2: call er got the information that you were going to
- 2:50Speaker 2: be doing a performance on the show.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Well, two things happened kind of simultaneously. There was another
- 2:58Speaker 1: request for me to play uh the Hurst wedding, which
- 3:03Speaker 1: was quite exciting in itself, And so there was this
- 3:08Speaker 1: I guess you have these cycles, you know, where either
- 3:11Speaker 1: you're kind of popular or there's a buzz or something
- 3:14Speaker 1: you know is going on for you, and and so
- 3:17Speaker 1: there are media requests or requests like that, and and
- 3:21Speaker 1: uh uh, you know, everyone knows about The Bachelor NAVI
- 3:27Speaker 1: that that that show has been around, and it's been
- 3:29Speaker 1: very popular for good reason, because everyone's curious, you know
- 3:33Speaker 1: about you know, what are the inside you know, actions
- 3:39Speaker 1: and thoughts and private actions of of of individuals, whether
- 3:44Speaker 1: it's some male or female. And so there are a
- 3:46Speaker 1: lot of intriguing moments, you know, that were coming out
- 3:49Speaker 1: in these in these series of shows like that, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: and of course I was intrigued and then when they
- 3:57Speaker 1: made their request, I was like, this is really cool
- 3:59Speaker 1: because as it actually signals you know that there's a popularity,
- 4:03Speaker 1: like you know, you're with a popular group, and so
- 4:07Speaker 1: it was flattering and I was excited to go do it.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Did anything unexpected come from the opportunity, like, did other
- 4:16Speaker 2: collaborations happen, or just anything that sparked a new path
- 4:22Speaker 2: in your career based on being on the show.
- 4:26Speaker 1: You know, one thing generally does build off of another.
- 4:29Speaker 1: For example, we just we just were at the Academy
- 4:33Speaker 1: Country Music Coorts with UH with Randy Travis and UH.
- 4:37Speaker 1: It was you know, the AP picked it up, and
- 4:40Speaker 1: you know, there was a lot of subsequent media excitement
- 4:48Speaker 1: around us since it's still going. But in that particular case,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I can't remember because, like I said, it's been been
- 4:55Speaker 1: some years since we've done that. I don't even remember
- 4:57Speaker 1: how exactly do you know what year it was that
- 4:58Speaker 1: we actually did that? There you go, So I can't remember,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know exactly what followed that. I just I remember
- 5:07Speaker 1: that a lot of people saw it, you know, and
- 5:10Speaker 1: typically you know, I mean I've had the same phone
- 5:13Speaker 1: number for gosh, twenty something years, and so you know
- 5:19Speaker 1: that my phone was blowing up like crazy. And then
- 5:22Speaker 1: you know, when I sang at the World Series, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: for baseball, you know, I got I got texts blowing up.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The other night when I was on the A Sam Awards,
- 5:31Speaker 1: there were people you know, blowing my phone up, So
- 5:35Speaker 1: it had that same effect. You know, I'm not sure
- 5:38Speaker 1: what it all happened because of it, but it's always
- 5:42Speaker 1: good to get good media, you know, especially when you
- 5:46Speaker 1: don't watch it.
- 5:47Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, that's too funny. I think I'm curious
- 5:54Speaker 3: if being on.
- 5:56Speaker 2: The show, even for the segment, just the segment that
- 5:58Speaker 2: you were on, did it influenced your love life at all?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Were you married at the time when you were on
- 6:04Speaker 2: the show. Did it re spark the romance in your life?
- 6:08Speaker 2: What what did that look like.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So my wife is thirteen years younger than I am,
- 6:15Speaker 1: and she was a huge fan on the Bachelor. So
- 6:20Speaker 1: when when I told her about you know, getting the invitation,
- 6:23Speaker 1: of course, she was over the top. You know, all
- 6:26Speaker 1: of her friends everyone talking about it, and and and
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know, guys, I think, you know, like me, it's
- 6:35Speaker 1: like those kind of shows, you know, would never admit
- 6:40Speaker 1: to liking any piece of it at all. You know.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It's like and honestly, I don't I don't watch TV,
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, other than sports. It was like for ESPN
- 6:48Speaker 1: and so so, but I knew that it was a
- 6:51Speaker 1: big deal to my wife, and so I absolutely was
- 6:55Speaker 1: excited about the opportunity. But yes, her friend group, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: they all lived in New York for I think three
- 7:04Speaker 1: or four years, and they watched Sex in the City
- 7:07Speaker 1: every week, you know, and all the all the stuff
- 7:10Speaker 1: that guys would call trash, you know. And uh, but
- 7:16Speaker 1: but it's a it's a fun indulgence, you know. And
- 7:18Speaker 1: so she was super excited. Anything that gets her excited
- 7:22Speaker 1: to come and gets me excited to and I and
- 7:24Speaker 1: you know, we've always we've always had a great love life.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So so it's uh, did it enhance it any Uh,
- 7:32Speaker 1: probably added some excitement to our life. Yes, But but
- 7:36Speaker 1: she's she's a yeah, I think I'll leave that answer alone.
- 7:40Speaker 3: That's awesome. I can't I can't imagine.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, your significant other gets a call to perform on
- 7:49Speaker 2: one of your favorite TV shows.
- 7:50Speaker 3: That's pretty cool.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I remember. One of her most exciting moments is she
- 7:53Speaker 1: had the worst crush on Luke Perry and we were
- 7:57Speaker 1: on an airplane one time and he was he was
- 8:00Speaker 1: close bias and we walked through and uh, he recognized
- 8:05Speaker 1: me and shook my hand as we walked on the plane,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and I thought my wife was going to fall down,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you know. And then there was another time that that
- 8:12Speaker 1: we were at the Kentucky Derby and Tom Brady was
- 8:15Speaker 1: at our table at the derby, you know, at the
- 8:17Speaker 1: actual race. So we were hanging out for you know,
- 8:21Speaker 1: four or five hours, and I think she was just like,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know, it is kind of overwhelming, you know. Whenever
- 8:28Speaker 1: you are you get around some folks like that, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's not all the time. You know, we have friends
- 8:34Speaker 1: that are that are celebrities and and that's cool. But
- 8:37Speaker 1: when you get around somebody that that you grew up loving,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know, are idolized any kind of way, it is
- 8:43Speaker 1: a it is a shock, you know, and especially when
- 8:47Speaker 1: they're when they're nice, it really just goes over and
- 8:51Speaker 1: just magnifies the way you always felt about them, you know.
- 8:54Speaker 3: That's so nice.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I've found since moving to LA that there's people that
- 8:59Speaker 2: I've either followed or seen or consumed their content on
- 9:05Speaker 2: social media, and I'll see them places and I have
- 9:08Speaker 2: this weird feeling of feeling like I know that person
- 9:12Speaker 2: and almost wanting to go up them to them as
- 9:14Speaker 2: a friend, but the reality is that person actually doesn't
- 9:17Speaker 2: know me, like it's only a one way street. And
- 9:20Speaker 2: I kind of feel like that juxtaposition with being in
- 9:23Speaker 2: LA and stuff like that, it's a really cool thing.
- 9:25Speaker 2: But you're like, oh, this is so weird. I know
- 9:26Speaker 2: so much about you, but you don't know anything about me.
- 9:30Speaker 2: But it's kind of fun when you get to have
- 9:32Speaker 2: those experiences. Where are you from, Susie, I'm from Virginia. Yeah, yep,
- 9:47Speaker 2: from Virginia. Moved to LA about a year.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Ago, from one coast to the other the side.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I've dabbled in reality television myself, but I'm curious. I
- 10:00Speaker 2: think that the entertainment industry often blurs lines between reality
- 10:04Speaker 2: and perception. How do you maintain that authenticity being an artist,
- 10:10Speaker 2: especially after going on, you know, a reality show, even
- 10:13Speaker 2: for a short stint, but also just living a more
- 10:15Speaker 2: public lifestyle. I'm sure you've experienced either headlines or articles
- 10:19Speaker 2: and things like that. How do you stay true to
- 10:21Speaker 2: yourself and live an authentic life?
- 10:28Speaker 1: I think I recognized a long time ago that I
- 10:31Speaker 1: have a core group of fans that and fans really
- 10:37Speaker 1: pick up on the little nuances of an artist. When
- 10:40Speaker 1: they're real fans, they watch just about everything, they consume
- 10:43Speaker 1: just about everything. When you ask about authenticity, I think
- 10:46Speaker 1: I've always been that way and that is what has
- 10:50Speaker 1: endeared the fans to me. But my folks family, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: and they didn't tolerate rude behavior that was growing up.
- 11:00Speaker 1: You know, you head to your part and and and
- 11:05Speaker 1: so I think that shows and who I am and
- 11:08Speaker 1: who I've always been.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I can say from personal experience and having friends that
- 11:17Speaker 2: have more public lives, I feel like it can be
- 11:20Speaker 2: so like emotionally damaging when you experience a hardship and
- 11:27Speaker 2: with all the public watching it's it's so much more
- 11:31Speaker 2: complicated than I feel like anybody ever assumes or knows.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And a lot of times you want to defend yourself
- 11:38Speaker 2: or you want to say, hey, there's more to this
- 11:40Speaker 2: than what you guys are discussing online or what you
- 11:44Speaker 2: guys may have seen or heard. But sometimes the best
- 11:48Speaker 2: thing to do is just to, you know, stay in
- 11:50Speaker 2: your lane and stay authentic to yourself and know that
- 11:53Speaker 2: if you've you know, carried yourself and conducted yourself in
- 11:56Speaker 2: a way that you're.
- 11:59Speaker 3: You know, proud of, then that's really all you can do.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And it's it sounds like your fan base has seen
- 12:03Speaker 2: that over the years and really respected that.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I think you're spot on with that. And and I
- 12:09Speaker 1: think it's it's harder and harder, you know, for people
- 12:13Speaker 1: to have any kind of privacy and and but that's
- 12:18Speaker 1: that's part of the game. I mean, that's that's where
- 12:20Speaker 1: we are. And that's okay. I mean, if you if
- 12:22Speaker 1: you want to be in public life, then you've got
- 12:26Speaker 1: to be ready for the scrutiny. You've got to be
- 12:28Speaker 1: ready for people calling you out for your mistakes. And
- 12:32Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's good. You know, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: don't I don't see the bad in that. Uh. I
- 12:41Speaker 1: do love the Internet from the standpoint that we are.
- 12:43Speaker 1: We're able to see you know, raw talent out there
- 12:48Speaker 1: way more readily. And it's probably always been there, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: we just we just haven't had the platforms. And you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: I love all the social media platforms and I love
- 12:58Speaker 1: what they can do for people, you know, exposing greatness,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and you know that that's that's good for consumers, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: to not just have one place they can go find
- 13:14Speaker 1: something that they relate to, you know, or identify with.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And and I, for one, you know, I've seen a
- 13:20Speaker 1: lot of talent on the internet and just go, wow, man,
- 13:23Speaker 1: this is it's just stacked up, you know. And then
- 13:27Speaker 1: it's fun too, and it's it's immediate of course, like
- 13:30Speaker 1: anything else, like conversations in a crowd, you know, things
- 13:35Speaker 1: can think can get bad. You know, there can be
- 13:38Speaker 1: bad content, but you got to know how to get
- 13:40Speaker 1: through that. But for the most part, you know, we're
- 13:42Speaker 1: all given a certain amount of time to live and
- 13:45Speaker 1: and and a certain era to live in. And it's
- 13:49Speaker 1: you know, I think the question is what are you
- 13:51Speaker 1: going to do with it? What are you going to
- 13:53Speaker 1: do with the era that you're that you're living in.
- 13:55Speaker 1: That's your era, you know, and and what are you
- 13:58Speaker 1: going to do with that a little bit of time
- 13:59Speaker 1: you have? And that's up to you as well.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, I'm curious.
- 14:07Speaker 2: When you see those people online that are super talented
- 14:10Speaker 2: and you're just blown away and you're like, dang, this
- 14:12Speaker 2: is some person who just had a camera or somebody
- 14:14Speaker 2: who was recording them. What advice would you give to
- 14:18Speaker 2: somebody like that if they're wanting to have a career
- 14:20Speaker 2: in the music industry.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I feel like some being from a.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Small town of small area, this whole world is wild
- 14:28Speaker 2: to me and I didn't even know what was out
- 14:30Speaker 2: there until I was out here, is how I feel sometimes,
- 14:34Speaker 2: And I'm curious, what would you say to somebody who's
- 14:36Speaker 2: trying to break into the music industry who has that
- 14:39Speaker 2: raw talent but they just don't know what to do
- 14:41Speaker 2: or where to be.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Well, I would say that any industry doesn't matter of it,
- 14:47Speaker 1: but especially if it's in entertainment, and that includes TV, movies,
- 14:53Speaker 1: record labels, or you know, music. Most people had this
- 15:00Speaker 1: idea that once they get discovered, you know, by one
- 15:04Speaker 1: of these somebody in that industry, that things are going
- 15:09Speaker 1: to be better. You know, that's the that's the instant thought.
- 15:13Speaker 1: But what they need to be aware of is, first
- 15:18Speaker 1: of all, if someone spots you and thinks you have talent,
- 15:23Speaker 1: then that's a good thing. It's the start of a conversation.
- 15:27Speaker 1: But it's just like this filter or funnel. Don't be
- 15:36Speaker 1: ready to just sign up with that person. The first
- 15:39Speaker 1: person that saw you is like high school, you know,
- 15:42Speaker 1: like you're you're in ninth grade, you're a freshman. You're
- 15:44Speaker 1: walking down the hallway and a guy notices you, and
- 15:48Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you're gonna be with that guy
- 15:49Speaker 1: four years. And then you know, your senior year, you're going,
- 15:52Speaker 1: oh my gosh, you know, Michael was the guy. That's
- 15:56Speaker 1: the guy. I mean, I've always been in love with him,
- 15:57Speaker 1: but I went with David, you know, at a moment,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and the world is just like that. It's just like
- 16:05Speaker 1: high school, you know, and and there's bad principles and
- 16:08Speaker 1: good principles. You know, there's bad teachers and good teachers,
- 16:12Speaker 1: and you really have to take your time with it,
- 16:16Speaker 1: even though you're so excited that someone noticed you. If
- 16:19Speaker 1: you don't wait, you're most likely going to miss the
- 16:23Speaker 1: bigger or the biggest opportunity that could happen for you.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And waiting is the hardest thing in everything, Waiting Waiting
- 16:31Speaker 1: to you know, to give yourself away, waiting to for
- 16:36Speaker 1: a boyfriend the right one. Waiting it is seriously the
- 16:40Speaker 1: hardest thing on earth to do. And so I would say,
- 16:46Speaker 1: if you're good enough to be spotted by one person
- 16:49Speaker 1: in an industry, you're good enough to be spotted by
- 16:52Speaker 1: the rest of them because they're looking to and you should.
- 16:55Speaker 1: You should not just jump on the first opportunity to
- 16:57Speaker 1: hit you.
- 16:59Speaker 3: That's good.
- 17:10Speaker 2: So what do you see for yourself professionally and personally
- 17:15Speaker 2: over the next few years?
- 17:16Speaker 3: What is like the five year vision and plan?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Well, you know all those things I just said, I
- 17:24Speaker 1: made every mistake that I just told you, you know,
- 17:27Speaker 1: every single one of them. I made it even in
- 17:29Speaker 1: high school. So so you know, it's it's It's one
- 17:32Speaker 1: thing to be able to have the wisdom to look
- 17:35Speaker 1: back and say it, but I have it from the experience.
- 17:40Speaker 1: You know, if one person hears me about it, break
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know what am I doing from here forward is
- 17:47Speaker 1: now that I've been in this industry for you know,
- 17:50Speaker 1: a couple of decades, I've got I've got a team
- 17:54Speaker 1: of people. And this is the most important thing I
- 17:56Speaker 1: could say to anybody wanting to get in the entertainment business.
- 18:01Speaker 1: You cannot will, not, never succeed on your own. It
- 18:08Speaker 1: is the team that surrounds you. And I've got that team. Now.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I've got an unbelievable manager. And when I say unbelievable,
- 18:18Speaker 1: I'm not just talking about as a person it's somebody
- 18:21Speaker 1: who understands the inner workings of the industry and knows
- 18:26Speaker 1: how to help guide your career through those gates. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: there it's gated. You know, this is a gated community
- 18:35Speaker 1: and in every possible way. And when you see Landy
- 18:38Speaker 1: Wilson when an Entertainer of the Year, man she is
- 18:42Speaker 1: a phenomenal talent. I mean I was blown away by her.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Does she deserve it? Would she have gotten it if
- 18:52Speaker 1: she didn't have great management or a great label? Not
- 18:55Speaker 1: a chance, not one chance. It's who's in there fighting
- 19:00Speaker 1: for you. You know, I've got a great publicist in
- 19:02Speaker 1: Zach Farnham, and you know that's why I'm on this
- 19:05Speaker 1: interview with you today. And so it is it's a team,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and it's not just anybody. It's you've got to wait,
- 19:14Speaker 1: seek out and know who can get stuff done and
- 19:18Speaker 1: they have a track record, you know, as the Bible says,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you'll know them by their fruits. The people in the business,
- 19:26Speaker 1: you'll know them by what they've done. And so that's
- 19:29Speaker 1: that's that's my advice to people. And I'm taking it
- 19:32Speaker 1: myself now, you know. So I think there's a lot
- 19:36Speaker 1: of career left for me. I don't know exactly what
- 19:39Speaker 1: it tells, but but I think there's some things that
- 19:43Speaker 1: I have never done that are that are coming up.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I can't say exactly what they are because it's kind
- 19:48Speaker 1: of a secret, but there are some big things coming
- 19:51Speaker 1: that that people will see and go good, gracious. I
- 19:54Speaker 1: didn't expect that, you know, And that's that's always good
- 19:57Speaker 1: to surprise people if it's if it's a positive.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so awesome.
- 20:02Speaker 2: When you were saying that early reminded me when I
- 20:05Speaker 2: was pursuing something several years ago. Oh, I kind of
- 20:09Speaker 2: adopted this phrase, and it was if you want to
- 20:11Speaker 2: go fast, you go alone, but if you want to
- 20:13Speaker 2: go far, you go together.
- 20:15Speaker 3: And I always held on to that because.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It did feel like being patient and waiting and having
- 20:21Speaker 2: a great team was It was a It was a
- 20:23Speaker 2: hard thing to do because you're collecting different people with
- 20:26Speaker 2: different skill sets and all these different things. But if
- 20:30Speaker 2: you just want to do it yourself, yeah it might
- 20:31Speaker 2: it might happen quicker, but you might not have as
- 20:33Speaker 2: much longevity. And it was it rains so true and
- 20:36Speaker 2: it stayed true. But just hearing you say that, I
- 20:38Speaker 2: was like, oh, I need to think back on that
- 20:40Speaker 2: phrase more often because it got me through some stuff
- 20:42Speaker 2: a few years ago when I was pursuing some passions.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Well, I can tell that your sincerity is real, and
- 20:51Speaker 1: you know, stay true. You know, remember you know how
- 20:55Speaker 1: you grew up, remember your household, no matter, no matter
- 20:59Speaker 1: if there were rough time, are not and hopefully there
- 21:01Speaker 1: were some rough times, because those are the things that
- 21:03Speaker 1: help you through life. And you know, it's not the
- 21:06Speaker 1: great times that you learned from, it's just the hard times.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And you know, I would say that la is probably
- 21:12Speaker 1: the hardest place in the world to really be. I've
- 21:16Speaker 1: been there a few times and there are very few,
- 21:21Speaker 1: uh sincere people there. You know, New York is so
- 21:24Speaker 1: much different. I mean, you know, to me, New York
- 21:27Speaker 1: was I was so people go, you like New York City?
- 21:30Speaker 1: I go, I love New York City. I'll tell you why.
- 21:32Speaker 1: People will soon er tell you to kiss off than
- 21:34Speaker 1: than than to help you there. And you know, they
- 21:38Speaker 1: don't hold a door for anybody to walk through. I mean,
- 21:40Speaker 1: they's just real, I the mean, and nobody is trying
- 21:47Speaker 1: to tell you how great you are, how much they
- 21:50Speaker 1: want to help you, and just be lying to you. Know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: so anyway that that was my perspective of the differences
- 21:56Speaker 1: between the big apple and and the l A. You're
- 21:59Speaker 1: out there in a din of lines. It's a big arable.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Well, before we wrap, I wanted to ask you a
- 22:05Speaker 2: few more Bachelor related questions, since I'm sure that people
- 22:10Speaker 2: are curious after filming the show. Did you have anybody
- 22:14Speaker 2: come up to you and recognize you specifically from the
- 22:16Speaker 2: show and have did you have like a fun fan
- 22:19Speaker 2: encounter that you maybe wouldn't have had if you hadn't
- 22:21Speaker 2: performed on the show.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I did, and that is that is something that is
- 22:27Speaker 1: surprising to me, and that that's how you know that
- 22:30Speaker 1: you should have done it. You know, I didn't even
- 22:32Speaker 1: I ran into probably for at least three or four weeks.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I would run into people at a restaurant or whatever,
- 22:39Speaker 1: and they say, you were on a Bachelor and they're
- 22:41Speaker 1: not even a country fan. But you know, I noticed
- 22:43Speaker 1: the same thing when I started TikTok. You know, I
- 22:46Speaker 1: was one of the first country artists that started TikTok.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And and there's this. I was in Beaumont, Texas, you
- 22:53Speaker 1: know where I was, where I was raised, and I
- 22:56Speaker 1: went in this restaurant and h and this these girls
- 23:00Speaker 1: walked up to me and they said, you your clear
- 23:03Speaker 1: walker and I go, yeah, yeah, and I said and
- 23:05Speaker 1: they go, well, why are you here? And I go,
- 23:09Speaker 1: what do you mean? Why am I here? You know?
- 23:11Speaker 1: And they go where are you from? I go, I'm
- 23:15Speaker 1: from here. I mean that I'm from the same hometown
- 23:19Speaker 1: that They were not country fans. So I realized that
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know that that that these of these platforms, especially
- 23:28Speaker 1: like The Bachelor and the Back is what started that
- 23:31Speaker 1: for me. You know, they need to ask the first
- 23:32Speaker 1: time I notice anything like that. But Tess a great question,
- 23:35Speaker 1: and it's something that I had actually forgotten about, but
- 23:38Speaker 1: it happened in restaurants, you know that I would walk
- 23:41Speaker 1: into people go you're on the Bachelor and be like, yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 3: That is so funny.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I feel like we've done a few of these interviews
- 23:49Speaker 2: now and it sounds like that's a common thing where
- 23:51Speaker 2: people have is they're a niche of music that they're
- 23:53Speaker 2: in and they have a really strong fan base, and
- 23:55Speaker 2: they're like, I'm still shocked by how far spread the
- 23:59Speaker 2: Bachelor nache and fan base goes. And I think it's
- 24:02Speaker 2: it's so cool because it brings people together. I'm curious
- 24:06Speaker 2: so Ben ended up picking Courtney Robertson on the show,
- 24:12Speaker 2: and I wasn't. I'm not sure if you watched the
- 24:13Speaker 2: season back or not, but did you have any inklings
- 24:15Speaker 2: about him picking her?
- 24:18Speaker 1: No, it was it was kind of a surprise. Okay,
- 24:22Speaker 1: but but but but no, I didn't have any inklings
- 24:25Speaker 1: about it. You know, those those shows I think are
- 24:30Speaker 1: first of all, there needs to be some kind of
- 24:34Speaker 1: shock factor, you know, in those shows, and and that's
- 24:36Speaker 1: what keeps them interesting. You know, you can't believe someone cheated,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know, or snuck out they weren't supposed to and
- 24:44Speaker 1: things like that, and that's what keeps us watching because
- 24:47Speaker 1: I think everyone has a certain amount of wickedness in them,
- 24:50Speaker 1: whether admit it or not yet. And so it's like
- 24:54Speaker 1: when it gets exposed, you know, it's like, oh my gosh,
- 24:58Speaker 1: you know. But not that anything was wicked about Bachelor,
- 25:02Speaker 1: But I'm just saying that it's you know, I'm intrigued
- 25:08Speaker 1: by I mean, I'm more intrigued by how curious people
- 25:11Speaker 1: are and how many people watch it. It's just it's insane.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I mean, most most shows do not cannot last you know,
- 25:22Speaker 1: four or five seasons. I think eight seems to be
- 25:25Speaker 1: a magic number for the big ones. And the fact
- 25:28Speaker 1: that this has been going for twenty something seasons is
- 25:31Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's miraculous. You know. So they're doing
- 25:36Speaker 1: something right there. You know, the format, the ingredients, the
- 25:40Speaker 1: I guess, it's a lot of the raw reality is
- 25:42Speaker 1: what it was what attracts people so much, and you know,
- 25:46Speaker 1: kudos to them, they've done great job.
- 25:48Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 25:49Speaker 2: So lastly, we kind of touched on this earlier, but
- 25:53Speaker 2: my last question was what advice would you offer to
- 25:56Speaker 2: your younger self as an aspiring musician finding yourself in
- 26:00Speaker 2: situations like navigating fame, relationships and the entertainment industry.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Most of my advice to my younger self would be
- 26:09Speaker 1: what I laid out earlier, you know, about waiting and
- 26:14Speaker 1: being patient, because when it says good things come to
- 26:18Speaker 1: those who wait, it's really probably the most honest, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 1: secular proverb I've ever heard in my life. You know
- 26:25Speaker 1: that that when you wait, something better is going to
- 26:29Speaker 1: come along. I know a lot of times when I've
- 26:31Speaker 1: been offered either tours or or you know, or a
- 26:36Speaker 1: gig somewhere, and I said no. A lot most of
- 26:39Speaker 1: the time, most of it, something better came along. And
- 26:43Speaker 1: and same way with with with with relationships. You know
- 26:49Speaker 1: when you just when you say no and and you
- 26:52Speaker 1: absolutely wait, I mean like almost every time, something better
- 26:58Speaker 1: is coming. And so I would say again, you know
- 27:01Speaker 1: that that patience is is the key. Uh. Like I
- 27:05Speaker 1: would have said that to my young self, I'm saying
- 27:07Speaker 1: it to myself now, you know. And and like I said,
- 27:10Speaker 1: I made all of those faults, all those fallacies that happened,
- 27:13Speaker 1: and I got myself in a lot of trouble, you know, uh,
- 27:16Speaker 1: with the wrong people and and I'm talking about in
- 27:19Speaker 1: business and and now now it's it's it's really in
- 27:24Speaker 1: such a great place that now now I'm just telling myself,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you know, hold the line and have the fortitude to
- 27:34Speaker 1: go with the team you have. They're the right ones.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You've got the right people, and great things are going
- 27:38Speaker 1: to happen. So that that's exactly where I am now.
- 27:41Speaker 1: But just it just takes a while.
- 27:43Speaker 3: That's awesome. Well, thank you so much for joining us today.
- 27:46Speaker 2: We appreciate you taking time to chat and give us
- 27:49Speaker 2: the inside scoop on your life and your experience on the.
