- 0:01Water is more sensitive than we even realize.
- 0:06Water has the ability to respond to our moods, our thoughts,
- 0:11and these subtle lines of energy running throughout our lives.
- 0:24Hello and welcome back to Remember Why You're Here,
- 0:27a podcast for seekers and sensitives where you can relax, receive,
- 0:31reconnect to yourself, and remember the most important thing of all,
- 0:35why you're here. In this audio episode today,
- 0:41I wanted to revisit one of the most popular transmissions I
- 0:46ever put up online.
- 0:47I'm always curious to see the things that really hit the most or the things
- 0:52that the most people are interested in.
- 0:54And so this video that I posted on YouTube a handful of years ago called
- 0:59A Beginner's Guide to Water Magic is one of the most popular things I've ever
- 1:04shared, and it's something I've been thinking about a lot this summer.
- 1:08So I know I mentioned in the reading for this month,
- 1:11and I talked about how we had this two of cups cardin come in for this month,
- 1:16I talked about the importance of bringing in water to meet us this year.
- 1:21So we are past the halfway point now in this year of the fire horse
- 1:26where it's just like in the Chinese zodiac. It's just fire, fire, fire, fire.
- 1:31And I've really been seeing it. I've really been feeling it.
- 1:34I've been seeing it and some of my friends are having inflammatory conditions
- 1:39kind of run away with them or having mind fire,
- 1:43whatever it is that drive that feeling of kind of burning oneself
- 1:48up.
- 1:49And I think it's really important as we are heading down the
- 1:54runway of the rest of this year, that's what I've been calling it,
- 1:57that we start to call in also these healing waters,
- 2:02also the counterpoint. It's like we've got the fire this year.
- 2:05And I think that's the reality of where we're at is that we have the fire.
- 2:11We don't need to call in more fire to make our visions manifest. Actually,
- 2:15we need to call in more water to hold us as
- 2:20we navigate having all this fire of being able to
- 2:26orient, take these steps. And I see so many of you taking so many brave steps.
- 2:31I just really want to honor you and your life and what you've set into motion
- 2:35this year.
- 2:36But working with water magic is a beautiful way to hold
- 2:40us, to hold ourselves as we are really doing
- 2:46this gorgeous work of meeting, of meeting this year.
- 2:50So water magic's the oldest magic on earth.
- 2:55Water is magic when you really stop
- 3:00and look at it. Water is what makes life possible here on our planet.
- 3:04Water has the ability to cleanse.
- 3:07Water has the ability to revive.
- 3:11Water has the ability to erode the
- 3:15unerodable,
- 3:17to erode and slowly dissolve that which seemed immovable,
- 3:22something as immovable as stone. So water as an energy,
- 3:27as a sentience on this planet, incredibly potent,
- 3:29incredibly powerful. I always feel like I'm brought back into the magic of
- 3:34water
- 3:36right around this time of the year when we are just inundated by
- 3:42the lakes, the streams, the rivers, the rain.
- 3:45We get these afternoon thunderstorms every single day here in Southern
- 3:49Appalachia.
- 3:50And I watched my garden just explode with life because of sun, yes,
- 3:54but also because of water.
- 3:56So I am re-sharing this recording
- 4:01today for anyone who's interested in working with water as magic,
- 4:05water as medicine. Water is literally the basis of so many of our medicines,
- 4:10whether you're talking about a tea or whether you're talking about a flower
- 4:13essence.
- 4:14And so these very simple tools of working with water can really open up a
- 4:18whole realm of magic and a whole new way of thinking about ourselves
- 4:24and about the world.
- 4:25So get yourself a beautifully tall cup of water
- 4:30and tune in here to this beginner's guide to water magic.
- 4:35In the Northern Hemisphere, we're currently entering fall,
- 4:39the time of the year on the Celtic wheel that is associated with water.
- 4:44When I first moved down to these mountains to study plants,
- 4:48I knew that I was interested in medicine, specifically herbal medicine.
- 4:53What I didn't know is that I'd get incredibly fascinated with water as medicine.
- 4:58Where I live is a very water-rich landscape.
- 5:02Water in many ways is the first medicine of this place.
- 5:06So while I love continuing to work with plants,
- 5:09I also deepen my appreciation of water as medicine every day.
- 5:15The American anthropologist and nature writer, Loren Eiseley,
- 5:19is quoted as saying, "If there is magic on this planet,
- 5:22it is contained in water." And really, I couldn't agree more.
- 5:27Water is the foundation of life here on our planet. Without water,
- 5:32life as we know it wouldn't exist.
- 5:34Is there anything more magical than that? Water covers three-fourths of our
- 5:39planet and it makes up 65% of our body.
- 5:43It is also the only natural substance found at all three states of being,
- 5:48liquid, vapor, and solid at the earth's normal range of temperatures.
- 5:53With this, we can see that water is a shape shifter.
- 5:56Water has the ability to move and grow and
- 6:01change depending on its environment.
- 6:04Water is also the universal solvent.
- 6:07Water dissolves more substances than anything else.
- 6:11And it's at the building block of how we function and how all the beings on this
- 6:16planet function as well. For example,
- 6:19plants use water as a medium to actually create photosynthesis with their cells.
- 6:25Water is also incredibly responsive. We see this anytime we make tea.
- 6:30Water has this ability as a universal solvent to take up the qualities of
- 6:35those herbs.
- 6:36But water is also responsive to things like the moon. We see this with the
- 6:40tides.
- 6:41We also know that water will respond to the earth's magnetic field
- 6:47as well as explosions on the sun.
- 6:49So really water is so much more sensitive than we thought before.
- 6:54On a more esoteric or energetic level,
- 6:57I've loved watching the work of Dr. Masaru Emoto unfold and
- 7:02reach a wide audience throughout the world. So if you haven't heard of him,
- 7:05Dr. Masaru Emoto is a Japanese scientist and researcher who
- 7:10studied the way water interacts with thought and water interacts with
- 7:15intention. Water interacts with music.
- 7:18What he did that was really interesting is he took pictures of the water as it
- 7:22crystallized.
- 7:23And he found that the same water would crystallize in totally different
- 7:27formations depending on which thoughts, intentions,
- 7:31or music it was exposed to.
- 7:33It's a really beautiful set of experiments that he did and something that has
- 7:37really inspired me to see how water is more
- 7:41sensitive than we even realize that water has the ability to
- 7:46respond to our moods, our thoughts,
- 7:50and these subtle lines of energy running throughout our lives. Water of course
- 7:55is foundational to the belief systems of all land-based and indigenous
- 7:59peoples. Water very literally is life.
- 8:04Even today, if you go and visit sacred sites across Europe,
- 8:08you'll find that many of these sites were actually built on top of previous
- 8:12sacred sites, many of which were there to enshrine a spring.
- 8:18Natural springs are the proto-sacred sites.
- 8:21They're the first sacred sites that human beings truly observed,
- 8:26and it makes sense. Springs are literally a bastion of life.
- 8:30Springs are places where we know no matter what's happening in the world,
- 8:34we can still be nourished and fed.
- 8:37I had the opportunity once to take a class with David Winston,
- 8:40an herbalist who now lives in the Northeast,
- 8:42but who has a background in Cherokee medicine.
- 8:45And he was down here in these mountains to give a workshop about Cherokee
- 8:49medicine,
- 8:49which is a tradition he was trained and invited into. And one of the things that
- 8:54he said that struck me so deeply before we even started talking about plants was
- 8:58that the first medicine in the Cherokee pharmacopia
- 9:03is water.
- 9:05And what he said about this is that in traditional Cherokee society, even today,
- 9:10the first medicine is always take it to the water. Whatever you're experiencing,
- 9:15whether it's heartache or a cold, take it to the water.
- 9:19Even children who are experiencing colic,
- 9:22it was traditional to take them to the water.
- 9:24And living here in these mountains,
- 9:26I can see why water would be considered the first medicine.
- 9:30So now whenever I'm struggling, I ask myself,
- 9:33can I just take this to the water and let it wash downstream?
- 9:36So there are a few practices that I've developed over time to work with water as
- 9:42the medium of magic that it truly is.
- 9:45So the first practice is what I call water whispering. If you've ever sat by the
- 9:49ocean or a bubbling brook,
- 9:52you know that there are many voices to water and we can receive messages just by
- 9:57sitting with the water. So in water whispering,
- 10:00I go and sit by the creek normally outside my house,
- 10:03but sometimes to wilder places in nature. And I simply,
- 10:07I put my worries, my questions out to the water,
- 10:11and then I listen. Now for me,
- 10:15it doesn't normally come in as words that I hear physically hitting my eardrums,
- 10:19but more like an inner state of communication.
- 10:23I've been amazed sometimes what I've been able to see and understand and
- 10:28feel just by sitting with the water and listening to how it's whispering to me.
- 10:33If you don't have any running water nearby your home,
- 10:37if you don't live by any kind of river or streams,
- 10:40you can try this exercise with a bowl of water. I actually think gazing into a
- 10:45bowl of water or gazing into a chalice of water is what predates crystal
- 10:50bowl gazing.
- 10:51So get yourself a bowl of water and enter into a meditative state staring onto
- 10:56the surface of the water and just notice if you can receive any kind of message
- 11:00or input from the water as you let yourself sink into this relaxed state of
- 11:05being.
- 11:06The next water magic ritual are water elixirs.
- 11:11So we've already explored how water can be a medium for actually taking
- 11:16on not only the chemical constituents of say a plant,
- 11:20but also the energetics of plants, but also words, thoughts,
- 11:24ideas.
- 11:25So the easiest kind of water elixir you can make is to actually make an
- 11:30intention and tape it onto a bottle of water and let it sit overnight.
- 11:35This is a beautiful way to get clear on what kind of magic you want to manifest
- 11:39in your life and ask that water to become a part of it. And then of course you
- 11:43can drink this water,
- 11:45you can use this water outside to sanctify a place,
- 11:49however feels good to you to work with this water.
- 11:52You could even put it in your bath water or wash your hands with it.
- 11:55And then of course we can get even more complex with some of our water elixirs.
- 12:00For example, you can make a stone elixir.
- 12:03Working with any stone in the quartz family,
- 12:05like clear quartz or rose quartz is a safe way to go about making an
- 12:10elixir.
- 12:12And the way that you do this is you just put the stone in a glass of water
- 12:15overnight and then you drink it first thing in the morning.
- 12:18I like to use clear quartz for this because I find that clear quartz has this
- 12:21ability to actually take on my intention. It's highly programmable.
- 12:25This is why we use clear quartz in all of our technology.
- 12:30You can also make flower essences with water.
- 12:34Most people are familiar with the practice of flower essences through Dr. Edward
- 12:38Bach, who was the physician around the turn of the century who first started
- 12:42experimenting with floating flowers and water and then using that diluted water
- 12:47to treat all kinds of ailments, both physical and emotional.
- 12:51But the truth is that you can make an essence from anything with water.
- 12:55If it's true that water responds to our thoughts, our intentions, our emotions,
- 13:00then you could set a jar of water out in the middle of a gathering to
- 13:04capture the energy of that gathering.
- 13:07You could set a bowl of water out underneath the full moon and capture that
- 13:10energy.
- 13:11I was once at an event where a circle of women were weaving and someone put a
- 13:16bowl of water in the middle of that circle to capture the energy of women
- 13:20weaving. The key with this kind of magic is the more you're clear on
- 13:25your intention, the stronger this medicine will be. As we've seen,
- 13:29water responds to thoughts.
- 13:31So if you are clear with your intention of what you're asking this elixir
- 13:36to become, then the medicine will turn out that much more potent.
- 13:41I think this is important to think about going back to the fact that we are 65%
- 13:46water. If water is that programmable and that sensitive,
- 13:51is it not the case that the water inside of our body is actually reacting to our
- 13:55thoughts, specifically our thoughts about ourselves?
- 13:59So I love thinking about water magic in part as actually learning how to program
- 14:03myself and the water inside of my body to resonate with
- 14:09frequencies of joy, love, and gratitude.
- 14:13The last water magic ritual is anointing.
- 14:17Anointing is a very old and very sacred practice,
- 14:21and it's one of my favorite things to do on a daily basis here. So
- 14:26I tend to anoint with spring water around my home.
- 14:29There's a bunch of springs that seep out of the hillsides here,
- 14:32and I normally will visit them and just dip two fingers in and anoint my
- 14:36temples, anoint my crown, anoint my heart or the back of my neck.
- 14:41I have access to this amazing spring water,
- 14:44but no matter where you are in the world, you can anoint yourself with water.
- 14:48To anoint yourself, just get the most energetically special water you can find.
- 14:53So whether that's water that you've made an elixir from or water from a sacred
- 14:57place in the world,
- 14:59or maybe water from a local stream that even if it's not the cleanest water,
- 15:04perhaps if you've worked with it in prayer,
- 15:07you might want to use this as an anointing water as well.
- 15:10I also have water that I've collected from sacred springs around the world,
- 15:15and sometimes I'll use this water to anoint as well. So the process of anointing
- 15:19is similar to how we think about anointing within the church with quote unquote
- 15:23holy water. From this perspective, all water is holy, however,
- 15:27and so we use this water to bless ourselves.
- 15:31You can also use this water to bless others.
- 15:34So one practice is actually dipping a bundle of fresh
- 15:39herbs into water like this and actually cleansing yourself that way or bringing
- 15:43it into a sauna if you have access to that and showering yourself with those
- 15:47droplets. What an amazing way to anoint yourself.
- 15:51You can also anoint the world around you.
- 15:53So I love giving back some of the sacred water,
- 15:56water that I have been a part of collecting or sanctifying to the earth.
- 16:02And so on this note,
- 16:04one of the things that makes water so magic for us is that we have such a
- 16:08deep relationship with it. So one practice that I like to do to continually give
- 16:13back to the water is to bless the water.
- 16:16And there's one really easy way to do this that gives you a beautiful container
- 16:21to create this prayer.
- 16:23And that is to go out to a source of wild water,
- 16:27to cup the water in your hands.
- 16:29And during the time that it takes for that water to slip out your fingers and
- 16:33back into its stream or into the lake, pray with the water.
- 16:37Bless the water in whatever way makes sense for you with the prayers that you
- 16:41call on or a song or just the heartfelt intention that this
- 16:46water go back into its source and bring with it your blessings,
- 16:51your love, and your prayer for all the waters on our earth.
- 16:58I really just feel soothed even thinking about working with water.
- 17:01Is it just me? It was so wonderful to revisit this.
- 17:05And I'm wanting to bring this in with me as I
- 17:10sort of enjoy this last month where I can really be submerging myself in the
- 17:14water, really fully being with the water in this way.
- 17:19So if you were intrigued about this,
- 17:22I actually have a whole free resource,
- 17:25a whole free PDF about ways to work with
- 17:29water magic where I go deeper into some of these practices,
- 17:32then I share even more practices and perspectives.
- 17:36So if you're interested in that totally free resource,
- 17:39I'll put the link down here below.
- 17:41And I created it because so many people were interested in this video and in
- 17:45this concept of water magic.
- 17:46So this feels like a perfect time of the year to start to work with water magic
- 17:51in the wheel of the year that I follow,
- 17:53that's connected to the Celtic wheel of the year. Water magic starts to come in
- 17:58as we approach fall.
- 17:59And so it feels like I'm taking the deep swimming ocean
- 18:04visits that I've had this summer that I'm currently on.
- 18:08I'm currently at the beach. When this will release, I will be seaside,
- 18:14but it feels like I'm taking all these encounters with water with me as then I
- 18:18move into sort of the watery season that is the fall season.
- 18:23So if you're interested in that,
- 18:24I will put that link here in the show notes or wherever you are listening.
- 18:29And I am curious to hear how this month is
- 18:34unfolding for you. As I talked about,
- 18:36there's a big thing on offer this month that feels like this opportunity for
- 18:41soul retrieval, for soul reunion,
- 18:44for those parts of ourselves that want to come back online.
- 18:48I've been loving hearing y'all's reaction to the intuitive reading that
- 18:53I did last week over on the Substack,
- 18:55and I just released a soul retrieval meditation over there,
- 18:59if that's something that you want to go deeper into. So I am
- 19:04just sending you buckets and buckets of blessings for this month
- 19:09ahead. May it be one of grounding in yourself,
- 19:13coming home to yourself, of drinking the tall glass of water,
- 19:18feeling resourced, remembering the magic that is in this world,
- 19:22and of also remembering that most important thing of all, why you're here.
