- 0:00Speaker 1: The state of emergency has been declared and toned and
- 0:02Speaker 1: overnight this following the surface flooding because of torrential rain.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Scott McLean is Toned and Civil Defense Controller Scott, Welcome
- 0:09Speaker 1: to the program. How many people have you got evacuated?
- 0:12Speaker 1: How many in the evacuation centers?
- 0:14Speaker 2: So we've got around about seventy people so far have
- 0:17Speaker 2: taken up the offer of our welfare centers. So they
- 0:20Speaker 2: are located at the Saint Clear Golf Club and Forsyth
- 0:24Speaker 2: Bath Stadium.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Are their houses flooded or are they just precautionary?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Most of them with precautionary. We've had reports of one
- 0:32Speaker 2: or two starting to get water in their houses, but
- 0:35Speaker 2: I think it was out of caution that they've relocated.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Any reports of damage or injuries at this point.
- 0:42Speaker 2: No reports thus far as injury and we haven't been
- 0:47Speaker 2: able to get out in assess any damage at this point.
- 0:50Speaker 1: What about power.
- 0:52Speaker 2: As far as where weird power is still on?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Is the worst over yet? Has the rain stopped or
- 0:59Speaker 1: I mean obviously the rain's going to keep going, but
- 1:00Speaker 1: has the river level peaked?
- 1:04Speaker 2: So we understand the river levels have receded a bit,
- 1:08Speaker 2: but it's still raining fairly steadily met service updated us
- 1:12Speaker 2: around about nine o'clock last night and forecast up to
- 1:17Speaker 2: one hundred miles for the following twenty four hours to
- 1:20Speaker 2: nine o'clock tonight, So yeah, it's still a wee bit
- 1:25Speaker 2: to go.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Scott, what's your advice to people this morning? Do they
- 1:28Speaker 1: go to work, do they go to school?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Look, our advice is don't go out driving in particular
- 1:37Speaker 2: unless you absolutely have to. It causes problems for our
- 1:44Speaker 2: emergency responders. It can cause problems for homeowners in the
- 1:49Speaker 2: low lying areas, pushing water off the roads and into
- 1:52Speaker 2: people's property. So the advices is to stay home and
- 1:56Speaker 2: stay safe.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So that's today. The advice from Civil Defense is if
- 2:00Speaker 1: you are in anywhere in Dunedin, stay home today.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Look, it's probably safer to do so. If you don't
- 2:08Speaker 2: have to travel, the advice would be to not travel.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Scott, thank you for that, appreciate your time and best
- 2:13Speaker 1: of luck.
