- 0:29Good morning from the In Coop, sorry for the nasally voice
- 0:33today but we've got a little cold going on over here through
- 0:35our family. So question of the day, how
- 0:41often do you catch yourself making excuses?
- 0:45You know my son and I were having a discussion about this
- 0:47earlier in the day we homeschool our son and I was asking him
- 0:52about his time that he logged for his independent study and
- 0:58you know he always has an interesting Concept of Whole
- 1:01Hog. Something took him and we
- 1:03recently switched our programs that we were using and this one
- 1:07has very very accurate time to let us see exactly how long he's
- 1:13in a module, how long he's actually studying reading what
- 1:17is he doing? And he started listening to him.
- 1:20Give me his interpretation of his day.
- 1:24And then I realized how many excuses that that that boy can
- 1:27come up within a very short period of time, and I was
- 1:30laughing about Out. And I said, my feel like you're
- 1:32making excuses right now and he's like, no.
- 1:34I'm telling you what happened? And I said, I understand that
- 1:37that's your interpretation of what happened.
- 1:39But it's all an excuse and we got into this big debate about
- 1:42it. Now, the reason I'm bringing
- 1:43this up to you because I explained to him the same thing,
- 1:47you know, we, as human beings have a way of skewing things to
- 1:53soften it for ourselves. We don't like to confront
- 1:59ourselves head-on. Sometimes you have to confront
- 2:02things head on so that you can change them back to most of the
- 2:05time you have to confront things head on to change them.
- 2:09So for me I really work hard with my clients or making sure
- 2:15that there are. There's a difference between
- 2:17excuses and facts. There are different things that
- 2:20come up. And you know what, most of the
- 2:24time it boils down to is we just don't want to do something or we
- 2:29might not. Prioritize it enough and if you
- 2:32start to think of things in your head like we start, we structure
- 2:37things in like, this is more important than that and no
- 2:40matter what we rate, everything, whether we realize it or not, we
- 2:43spend an inordinate amount of time rating things in our system
- 2:47that we have for ourselves. So you know, some of those, I
- 2:51didn't get a chance to take care of that for you today.
- 2:55It wasn't a priority and they're not just saying to you hey I you
- 2:59know I didn't make it a priority. there was a very funny
- 3:01commercial years ago on television where these two
- 3:05people were on a date and it was about what if people like really
- 3:09told the truth and they sat there and the girl was looking
- 3:12at the guy and she's like, I just can't stand the way you
- 3:15look and he's like, yeah, I'm never calling you back and it
- 3:17was very funny and very humorous and you know, it just reminded
- 3:22me of like wouldn't it be great if people were just really
- 3:26honest about certain things and just came out and said it, Old
- 3:31Dudley, Moore movie, Funny Farm, same thing where it was they
- 3:35would just tell the truth in this movie.
- 3:37And it was really, really funny about how the reaction to other
- 3:42people would bounce back to them with it.
- 3:46And when you think about how many excuses you give yourself
- 3:50instead of just being honest about it.
- 3:52Like look it didn't. It wasn't a priority for me or I
- 3:55just didn't care about it. We do this to ourselves all the
- 3:58time. So once my had this conversation
- 4:00with my So I started thinking about, all right, how many
- 4:02excuses do I make up in a day? Like what are the excuses that I
- 4:05come up with? And that I make for myself in a
- 4:08day? And I started thinking about the
- 4:10fact that I haven't painted in a very, very, very long time.
- 4:14Like I have not, I haven't done any painting in a long time and
- 4:20too long of a time. And I said to myself, you know,
- 4:24what's the reason that I haven't painted said, well, I don't have
- 4:27a place where I can set it up. Well, that's not exactly.
- 4:30Be true. I do have a place where I can
- 4:31set it up. I would just have to take down
- 4:34if I set it up and and the worst part is like I have the ability
- 4:39to do that, but I allowed myself to buy the excuse of.
- 4:43Well, you know what? I don't have a place because I
- 4:45can't leave it set up and that's an excuse, but I can paint.
- 4:50I just don't prioritize it or I'll say, well, I don't have the
- 4:54paper I like to paint on right now, and I can't find the paper
- 4:57again because my supplier went, well, that's an Was I can still
- 5:01get other paper. I could try a good experiment,
- 5:04if it was a high enough priority, if I made it urgent
- 5:09and I wanted to do it and it got me to really think about how we
- 5:13have become so desensitized to making excuses.
- 5:16And I want you guys to really look at this and where this
- 5:20shows up in your day, where the shows up in your life because
- 5:24I'm going to tell you it's everywhere and as much as I work
- 5:28on it, I still find myself getting hooked on Don it, I hear
- 5:32it with clients. I hear with my son, I hear it
- 5:35across the board and I hear it within myself to.
- 5:38So I thought you know, this is a worthy thing for us to take a
- 5:41look at because if we're making excuses and we're not
- 5:43prioritizing things and we're not telling people you know I'm
- 5:46just not going to get to it or I've got a lot on my plate it's
- 5:49not going to be till here till I can do it.
- 5:51Then we're just causing ourselves to to set up a
- 5:55situation where we're going to fail and the thing I would like
- 5:59to help you avoid is Setting up things to fail.
- 6:02There's nothing worse than having a successful strategy for
- 6:04failure. So, look at this, really start
- 6:08to pay attention. How many times am I making
- 6:10excuses and do I really need to even make an excuse?
- 6:12Why can't I just say, you know what?
- 6:14I didn't prioritize it I apologize or I just didn't want
- 6:18to do it and I apologize and I think when you do that, you're
- 6:22going to start to feel a lot better and you're going to start
- 6:24to feel a lot honest. And you're going to start to see
- 6:26things really shift in your life.
- 6:28So take it out. See if what comes about for, you
- 6:32does the same thing for me and you know, how it affect you.
- 6:36So, I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 6:40all tomorrow. Hopefully, I won't be quite as
- 6:42nasally tomorrow morning. Hope you have a blessed day.
- 6:45Bye. See if what comes about for, you
- 6:32does the same thing for me and you know, how it affect you.
