- 0:00Speaker 1: This morning I was on my Instagram and you know
- 0:03Speaker 1: how you get stuff fed to you from whatever, whatever.
- 0:06Speaker 1: And I get this video on my Instagram and I've
- 0:08Speaker 1: never seen this before. And I thought it was so clever.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And the guy was selling an event that I think
- 0:14Speaker 1: he came up with. And I thought it was so genius.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And I shot him a DM. His name is Mike.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I was like, Mike, could you come on our show
- 0:19Speaker 2: and talk about this? And he said, yes. Mike, good morning.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hello. Good morning.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Hey, can you tell everybody that I'm here in the
- 0:27Speaker 2: studio with what you got going on?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, thanks for having me on. So I started something
- 0:31Speaker 3: a few months ago. I just bring a bunch of
- 0:33Speaker 3: games to the park and see who shows up. And
- 0:35Speaker 3: now it became a thing called Adult Recess.
- 0:38Speaker 2: That's fun. I love Adult Recess. Right? Adult Recess. So
- 0:42Speaker 2: what are some of the games? Explain, please.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so we have, oh man, there's so many games.
- 0:47Speaker 3: So we have basketball, football, wiffle ball, soccer, slam ball. Volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, frisbees,
- 0:57Speaker 3: a bunch of card games, board games. We also have
- 1:02Speaker 3: a tug-of-war, a big parachute, and we play sharks and
- 1:07Speaker 3: minnows and tag. We did Duck, Duck, Goose the other day.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And it's just nuts to see, like, 50 people playing Duck, Duck, Goose.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Isn't that wild? That's awesome. Here's his video.
- 1:19Speaker 1: My name is Mike, and I host Adult Recess.
- 1:22Speaker 2: The next one will be this Sunday from.
- 1:24Speaker 3: 4.30 to 6.30 p.m.
- 1:26Speaker 2: At Apache Park in Scottsdale, Arizona. I love it. I
- 1:30Speaker 2: love it. I want to go if we could do
- 1:32Speaker 2: Red Rover. Oh, yes, Red Rover. That's fun. Break some arms.
- 1:36Speaker 2: My sister broke her arm that way. I bet. Well, Mike?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a game that so many people have asked
- 1:41Speaker 3: to play. And we're just like, everyone's going to get hurt.
- 1:46Speaker 3: They're going to get choke-holded.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Literally.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 2: To play that with adults would be awesome.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But, yeah, we do all those different types of things.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And the age ranges range from, I mean, anyone from,
- 1:57Speaker 3: you know, 18 years old to, I mean, we have
- 2:00Speaker 3: 70-plus people hanging out with us.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Oh, that's cool. Do you charge for it at all
- 2:04Speaker 2: or just come on over?
- 2:04Speaker 3: I literally live down the street. I put all the
- 2:07Speaker 3: games in a wagon and I wheel it to the park.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I set everything up. And whoever shows up, shows up.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Really cool. Really cool.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I didn't want to make it too much of a...
- 2:16Speaker 3: How everyone's doing things are optimizing and trying to get
- 2:19Speaker 3: the best return.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:21Speaker 3: And I get that. I run businesses too, and I
- 2:24Speaker 3: will do that in those businesses. But for these things...
- 2:27Speaker 3: I don't want people to come in with pressure or
- 2:29Speaker 3: feeling like they have to network or they have to
- 2:32Speaker 3: be something other than who they are as they just
- 2:35Speaker 3: show up.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm so glad you get that because there's so little
- 2:38Speaker 2: left in the world with no strings attached that's just
- 2:41Speaker 2: authentic and fun. Good for you.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Thank you so much.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So this Sunday.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, this Sunday, I usually, everyone's been saying it's every Sunday,
- 2:51Speaker 3: but I don't have it every Sunday, even though it
- 2:53Speaker 3: has been pretty much every Sunday. I just make the
- 2:56Speaker 3: call during the week if I want to do it
- 2:57Speaker 3: or not, and usually it's like 90% yes. So the
- 3:00Speaker 3: next one, this Sunday, October 25th from 4.30 to 6.30.
- 3:04Speaker 2: At Apache Park. I don't know where that is, or
- 3:06Speaker 2: maybe I do know where it is. Tell me where
- 3:07Speaker 2: it is.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Apache Park, it's off of 85th Place and McDowell. So
- 3:12Speaker 3: it's McDowell and Hayden. Is that a right word?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Is there a skate park there? There's a skate park there.
- 3:21Speaker 3: No, it's close. That's like a park just west of
- 3:24Speaker 3: this park.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Okay. I know exactly where it is. All right.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So it's this Sunday, 430. You just come. You don't
- 3:29Speaker 1: need to sign a waiver. You can probably do this
- 3:31Speaker 1: until someone gets hurt and sues you.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Right? That's fine.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Even then, it's like, you know, like, I always think
- 3:35Speaker 3: about permits and all these things, and people want to
- 3:37Speaker 3: work with me, but... I mean, I can't stop people
- 3:40Speaker 3: from showing up to a park and playing games.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 3:43Speaker 3: You're right. I get it. I could fall into legality
- 3:47Speaker 3: and stuff like that.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Hopefully people are crueler than that.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Someone actually already broke their wrist doing Duck, Duck, Goose.
- 3:53Speaker 3: And they actually messaged me and said, yo, I'm the
- 3:56Speaker 3: person that hurt themselves playing Duck, Duck, Goose. Worth it.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Oh, that's awesome. You got Duck, Duck, Goose. You could
- 4:03Speaker 2: do Ring Around the Roses. Right?
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Tag?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Kill the man with the ball? Oh, you should do
- 4:09Speaker 2: the parachute. Get a parachute and do the parachute game.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You know, all the stuff that you can't say anymore
- 4:15Speaker 1: because it's.
- 4:16Speaker 3: It's so fun to see, like, all these adults that are,
- 4:19Speaker 3: you know, 40, 50, they're winning some of these games,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and it's amazing to watch them play like they're kids.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's because they got the skills from doing nothing
- 4:26Speaker 2: but that when they were kids. All right, brother.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Hey, thanks. I mean, I think, like, one of the
- 4:31Speaker 3: biggest things is we forgot to have fun. We, we
- 4:35Speaker 3: like jades us and we have so much stuff in
- 4:38Speaker 3: the way that, you know, we forget to have fun.
- 4:40Speaker 3: We think we're too old and we're not good.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I'd like to do it some Sunday in July when
- 4:43Speaker 1: it's 120, that'd be a hoot.
- 4:46Speaker 3: You know that, you know that I started doing this
- 4:48Speaker 3: in May and June.
- 4:49Speaker 2: So, so you've had people show up when it was 120.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I was doing it the entire summer and people were like, dude,
- 4:54Speaker 3: it's so hot out there. And I'm like, well, then
- 4:57Speaker 3: don't come. I guess.
- 4:59Speaker 2: You're there by yourself.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I just, The funny thing is I did this for
- 5:04Speaker 3: over a year last year, and I did a couple
- 5:09Speaker 3: games like wiffle ball and not like a lot like
- 5:11Speaker 3: adult recess like I have, and no one showed up
- 5:13Speaker 3: for over a year.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Oh, wow. I think I had a couple people.
- 5:17Speaker 3: That showed up. You're so lonely. Well, because I want
- 5:19Speaker 3: to do this because I want to do this. Right.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So now what's the most amount of people you've had
- 5:23Speaker 2: show up?
- 5:23Speaker 3: 150.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Can you imagine that? It's probably bigger this weekend. The
- 5:28Speaker 1: weather's great. And we're talking about it.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I went from like six people for the first two weeks.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And then one of my buddies came back last weekend.
- 5:35Speaker 3: He was like, yo, what the hell happened? There was
- 5:37Speaker 3: six of us. Now there's over a hundred.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Wow. All right. This Sunday, four 30 Apache park. Thanks Mike.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Adult recess.
- 5:44Speaker 3: So much for your time.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You got it, brother. Good luck. Congratulations. Great idea.
