- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes six point fifty eight through six
- 0:14Speaker 1: sixty A big Surprise, the true identity of the Toy Soldier,
- 0:19Speaker 1: a horrible pass, the secret of Dress Rosa, and a
- 0:24Speaker 1: nightmare the tragic night of Dress Rosa. In these episodes,
- 0:32Speaker 1: I am deeply saddened.
- 0:36Speaker 2: You guys.
- 0:36Speaker 1: This is like a core fear. I don't know where
- 0:40Speaker 1: this comes from, but I hated this so much. Uugh
- 0:46Speaker 1: do Flamingo, you blow. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to
- 1:09Speaker 1: the show everyone. I am Natasha, Thank you very much
- 1:13Speaker 1: to Florian for commissioning this episode, and very excited because
- 1:18Speaker 1: Bernadette is here in the chat with me, and I
- 1:20Speaker 1: have not seen Bernadette in a minute, so it's so
- 1:23Speaker 1: good to see you girlie. You guys, this is such
- 1:30Speaker 1: a depressing trio of episodes like this is the kind
- 1:34Speaker 1: of thing where occasionally you come across a portion of
- 1:39Speaker 1: a story that you otherwise love, but when you rewatch it,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you're like, no, no, no, we're skipping that part. And
- 1:47Speaker 1: I feel like the story of Dress Rosa. If I
- 1:50Speaker 1: were going to like rewatch this show, I would skip
- 1:54Speaker 1: this section because it is just painful. It is so sad,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and it is so like. So when I said in
- 2:03Speaker 1: the intro that this was one of my core fears,
- 2:07Speaker 1: what I meant by that, and I think that this
- 2:10Speaker 1: is something that a lot of neurodivergent people can relate to.
- 2:16Speaker 1: What I meant was that I have a really deep
- 2:22Speaker 1: fear of being misunderstood in a way that is not
- 2:28Speaker 1: possible for me to rectify in some way, which is
- 2:32Speaker 1: part of my tendency to argue. This is something like
- 2:37Speaker 1: I certainly enjoy arguing just because I like being right.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to pretend that's
- 2:43Speaker 1: not true, but I think it's something that like, as
- 2:48Speaker 1: a kid, I didn't understand why my father always reacted
- 2:54Speaker 1: to me trying to explain by saying, why are you
- 2:58Speaker 1: always arguing or why are you making excuses? And I
- 3:02Speaker 1: was always just so frustrated by that because I was like,
- 3:05Speaker 1: it's not an excuse. It is an explanation of what
- 3:11Speaker 1: I was thinking and why I made the decision that
- 3:14Speaker 1: I made, and it being dismissed as an excuse felt
- 3:20Speaker 1: very belittling and like the intent behind something didn't matter
- 3:24Speaker 1: at all. You know what I'm saying and the intent
- 3:27Speaker 1: like effect Trump's intent, But we're not talking about those
- 3:31Speaker 1: kinds of situations really anyway. All this to say, I
- 3:36Speaker 1: spend a lot of my life trying to make sure
- 3:40Speaker 1: that people understand what I am not just what I'm saying,
- 3:45Speaker 1: but like the intent behind why I am saying it,
- 3:49Speaker 1: because it is so easy to get your wires crossed.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It's much much easier online now to get your wires
- 3:56Speaker 1: crossed because you can't get intent, you can't get tone,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you can't get body language, and so it's very easy
- 4:04Speaker 1: for somebody to write something and think that they are
- 4:07Speaker 1: being just a matter of fact person and for the
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know, other person reading it to be like, wow,
- 4:16Speaker 1: that was really rude, Like how could you say that?
- 4:21Speaker 1: So this is just an everyday example of that kind
- 4:26Speaker 1: of fear for me, and how often it will just
- 4:29Speaker 1: rear its head that I have this like paranoia about
- 4:33Speaker 1: people misunderstanding me and walking away with a total misapprehension
- 4:38Speaker 1: of what it was that I meant by something. Now,
- 4:43Speaker 1: in this episode, we have people who are being controlled
- 4:49Speaker 1: so that their actions look a certain way, and this
- 4:54Speaker 1: is not by choice, it's not their intent and that
- 4:58Speaker 1: is something that ties in with that in a way
- 5:00Speaker 1: that like it may feel like I'm kind of reaching here,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but I do think that this all goes together. There's
- 5:07Speaker 1: not a way to explain, and like, if they were
- 5:11Speaker 1: given the time to stand and talk to the king,
- 5:14Speaker 1: probably he could explain himself. But the point of the
- 5:18Speaker 1: way that go Flamingo is controlling him is that he
- 5:23Speaker 1: ensures nobody can get close. And that's actually kind of
- 5:27Speaker 1: the genius of it, is that you put people in
- 5:29Speaker 1: a position where either nobody can approach to actually have
- 5:34Speaker 1: a conversation or you are so utterly discredited that nobody
- 5:39Speaker 1: will believe a word you say, which is also extremely grim.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And there is another book series that I have been
- 5:50Speaker 1: covering where a person is like they it's somebody has
- 5:56Speaker 1: a superpower whereby they can take over someone else, this body,
- 6:01Speaker 1: And it's a similar like nightmare scenario for me reading
- 6:04Speaker 1: that when somebody is just made to do things that
- 6:09Speaker 1: their whole like the whole time that they're being made
- 6:11Speaker 1: to do it, they are fully aware and attempting to
- 6:14Speaker 1: fight back, but there is no ability to do that.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And this is part of what makes like the Purple
- 6:20Speaker 1: Man in Jessica Jones. Probably the most frightening villain of
- 6:28Speaker 1: any property I have ever covered, and I covered Jessica Jones.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I think I did that one with Owen way back
- 6:36Speaker 1: in the day. I'm trying to remember, but Jessica Jones,
- 6:40Speaker 1: for those who are not familiar, the villain in that
- 6:46Speaker 1: is a man who can control people's bodies and by
- 6:51Speaker 1: just telling them to do something, and they cannot help
- 6:56Speaker 1: but do it. They can't stop themselves once they've been
- 6:59Speaker 1: given an order. And the main character was sexually assaulted
- 7:03Speaker 1: by him because he told her to have sex with him,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and he told her to smile at certain points, and
- 7:11Speaker 1: he told her to act happy about and so she
- 7:14Speaker 1: has to behave in this entire way all the while
- 7:17Speaker 1: inside she can't resist and she's trying so hard, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: he has people doing all kinds of horrific stuff around
- 7:27Speaker 1: him because he just can cast like a word in
- 7:32Speaker 1: this offhand way that causes somebody to stand in one
- 7:36Speaker 1: place until they die because they can't stop to get
- 7:39Speaker 1: food or water or help or anything. They simply stand
- 7:43Speaker 1: still staring at a window because he told them to
- 7:46Speaker 1: keep watch, and he never took his command back after
- 7:49Speaker 1: he was done with what he wanted them for. He
- 7:52Speaker 1: just left and left them standing there, unable to undo
- 7:56Speaker 1: what he did to them.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And this sort of overpowering.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Of people's free will is always the scariest type of power.
- 8:06Speaker 1: It's like the there are so many other powers that
- 8:10Speaker 1: are really frightening, and they are technically overpowering people's free will.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Like you know, let's talk about mister three with his
- 8:20Speaker 1: wax power and being able to freeze people in wax.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He can stop them from being able to move even
- 8:25Speaker 1: though they want to. And sure, that's overpowering their will.
- 8:28Speaker 1: But when you are getting people, it's one thing to
- 8:30Speaker 1: stop them from being able to take any action. It's
- 8:33Speaker 1: another thing to be able to make them take action
- 8:36Speaker 1: that they don't want to take. That takes it another
- 8:39Speaker 1: step for me that is particularly horrifying. So this whole
- 8:46Speaker 1: storyline is just really really upsetting. Oh, Bernadette says, I
- 8:51Speaker 1: haven't been here for some time and crowdcast keeps crashing
- 8:53Speaker 1: on me. Hope it's stable now, Oh God, I'm sorry crowdcasts.
- 8:57Speaker 2: You guys know, there's just a it's.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Got more pros than cons for me on my end,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but I know what a pain it is a lot
- 9:04Speaker 1: of the time. Also, Yes, neurotypical people communicate in a
- 9:09Speaker 1: way that it's just so weird for me. I say
- 9:11Speaker 1: exactly what I mean, and there's still hell bent on
- 9:14Speaker 1: misunderstanding me. Girl, if this isn't like just preaching to
- 9:20Speaker 1: the choir here, I am Owen and I had this
- 9:24Speaker 1: conversation the other day because Owen is like, he is neurodivergent,
- 9:30Speaker 1: but in a different way than me, and so there
- 9:33Speaker 1: will be things that he has taken as me, like
- 9:36Speaker 1: doing something passive aggressive, and I'll be like, why did
- 9:40Speaker 1: you think that? Like I genuinely won't understand how he
- 9:45Speaker 1: could have interpreted something that way until he like lays
- 9:49Speaker 1: it out for me, and then I'm like, oh, oh,
- 9:53Speaker 1: I guess I see what you mean, but like, no,
- 9:56Speaker 1: that was not my intent at all, you know. And
- 10:00Speaker 1: there have been a few times where I have suggested
- 10:01Speaker 1: that he and I do like a morning routine together,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and I have begun to realize, finally after years, that
- 10:12Speaker 1: every time I have suggested that he has interpreted that
- 10:15Speaker 1: as me trying to pretend to do something with him
- 10:20Speaker 1: just because I want him to do it, when what
- 10:23Speaker 1: was really going on is I desperately want to have
- 10:27Speaker 1: a morning routine and have tried my whole life, and
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think it would be easier for me to do
- 10:32Speaker 1: it if he were doing it with me. It's like
- 10:35Speaker 1: he thinks that I'm trying to control him through this request,
- 10:40Speaker 1: and I am making this request because I want help,
- 10:45Speaker 1: but like he didn't see it that way at all,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you know, And I finally had to be like, you
- 10:51Speaker 1: get that this is because I need the help, right
- 10:54Speaker 1: And I saw the moment where it dawned on him, like,
- 10:58Speaker 1: oh my god, I have been misunderstanding this the whole time,
- 11:03Speaker 1: and all of a sudden I understood why he has
- 11:05Speaker 1: been so like kind of resistant and like resentful seeming
- 11:12Speaker 1: about it because he thought that I was just trying
- 11:15Speaker 1: to like make him do something but using reverse psychology
- 11:18Speaker 1: or treating him like a child.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And really the whole time, I'm.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Just like I can't do this. I need somebody to
- 11:25Speaker 1: do this with me, or I won't do it because
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm a child, you know. Anyway, it's just a it's
- 11:32Speaker 1: a very you know, and I'm I don't I'm not
- 11:35Speaker 1: mad at people who misunderstand, because frankly, we're set up
- 11:39Speaker 1: in life. There are so many people around us who
- 11:42Speaker 1: don't say what they mean that having to read between
- 11:45Speaker 1: the lines is actually a skill that we need a
- 11:48Speaker 1: lot of the time. So when folks like they assign
- 11:53Speaker 1: different motivations to what I'm saying, it's hard for me
- 11:57Speaker 1: to even be mad because I know that that's something
- 12:00Speaker 1: they've probably had to do their whole lives with another person,
- 12:05Speaker 1: somebody in their family or like a close friend or something,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and they're just not They just don't know when it's
- 12:11Speaker 1: time to shut that off. So anyway, I know I'm
- 12:15Speaker 1: getting way ahead of myself, guys, but this is just
- 12:17Speaker 1: there was like something about this particular storyline that bummed
- 12:20Speaker 1: me out so bad, and it was like, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: how long I have been waiting for us to get
- 12:25Speaker 1: to the like terrible history of dress rosa thing, so
- 12:30Speaker 1: finally getting here and it being like even worse than
- 12:33Speaker 1: I thought, And we still haven't gotten fully to what's
- 12:38Speaker 1: going on with the people being turned into toys. We've
- 12:40Speaker 1: gotten some hints that are pretty much on track for
- 12:44Speaker 1: like some of the theories that I had had, but we're
- 12:46Speaker 1: not getting like a full on explanation and reveal, Like
- 12:53Speaker 1: the things that we have started to see are only
- 12:56Speaker 1: for the audience, but none of our friends in the
- 12:59Speaker 1: store have gotten the information that we are working with yet.
- 13:04Speaker 1: So it's just a definite different situation when everybody knows
- 13:10Speaker 1: versus when just we as the viewing audience. No, so okay,
- 13:17Speaker 1: let's back up and go to a big surprise, the
- 13:20Speaker 1: true identity of the toy soldier, which is really funny
- 13:23Speaker 1: because it is not a big surprise. Everybody saw this coming.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Like anybody who is listening to this, if you did
- 13:31Speaker 1: not see it coming, that that was her father show
- 13:35Speaker 1: of hands, because I don't think I'm not trying to
- 13:39Speaker 1: pretend that I am the one person who figured this out.
- 13:43Speaker 1: This was just incredibly obvious, right, everybody saw this coming.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It's just so funny that it's literally called a big
- 13:50Speaker 1: surprise when I'm like it it, no.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It's not.
- 13:56Speaker 1: So this uh starts off with bar Bartilameo calling out
- 14:02Speaker 1: to Loofy and we get I love when this happens.
- 14:05Speaker 1: You guys, it's almost like we're in BoA's head for
- 14:08Speaker 1: a moment, because Boa always has lufy like behaving in
- 14:14Speaker 1: a way that isn't him at all in her little fantasies,
- 14:17Speaker 1: which really kind of to me is revealing that she
- 14:21Speaker 1: doesn't love Loufy. She just loves this like idea, this
- 14:27Speaker 1: fantasy of Lufy that she's got in her head that
- 14:30Speaker 1: isn't actually real. But anyway, Bartolomeo is trying to like
- 14:36Speaker 1: get Lufy's attention because he's attempting to help Zorro, who
- 14:42Speaker 1: asked Bartolomeo please bring Lufy to us in this area.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But Bartolomeo is like so wrapped up in his own
- 14:52Speaker 1: excitement over the fact that he's talking to Lufy that
- 14:56Speaker 1: at first it's hard for him to get anything out.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And Lufy finally is like, if you're not gonna do
- 15:01Speaker 1: or say anything, I've got to go. So I guess
- 15:06Speaker 1: by because he's just standing there like staring, fantasizing and
- 15:10Speaker 1: not reacting, And eventually he gets it together and is like, oh,
- 15:18Speaker 1: Zorro wants me to bring you to this spot, and
- 15:21Speaker 1: Lufy says, oh Zorro okay, and then says thanks roosterhead guy.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And I was really for a moment, I was like,
- 15:33Speaker 1: how is he going to react to that? And immediately
- 15:35Speaker 1: I was like, it's loofy. He's gonna love it. He's
- 15:37Speaker 1: gonna love the fact that Lufy called him anything, and
- 15:41Speaker 1: indeed a second later he's just like he gave me
- 15:44Speaker 1: a nickname, like it is actually quite adorable to me.
- 15:49Speaker 2: This whole.
- 15:51Speaker 1: This is the sort of thing that guys, if I
- 15:55Speaker 1: met Beyonce and she called me like if she I'm
- 16:04Speaker 1: trying to think of like something she could say that
- 16:06Speaker 1: was like technically true but also kind of insulting, And
- 16:10Speaker 1: I can't really think of something like specific enough because
- 16:13Speaker 1: rooster head is exactly what Bartolomeo looks like, and there's
- 16:18Speaker 1: like nothing that I I'm trying it just like could
- 16:20Speaker 1: she just call me like the fat girl? And I'm
- 16:22Speaker 1: like it's not even really insulting, like that's just I
- 16:25Speaker 1: am the fat girl. But what I'm my point is
- 16:29Speaker 1: that Beyonce refers to me at all. And that's it, Guys,
- 16:36Speaker 1: I am dropping dead.
- 16:38Speaker 2: That's it. And I know and I say all the
- 16:41Speaker 2: time that.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We shouldn't worship celebrities and that it is just a
- 16:45Speaker 1: recipe for heartbreak, and absolutely one thousand percent believe that
- 16:51Speaker 1: it is true. And at some point Beyonce will break
- 16:56Speaker 1: my heart. She will, It's gonna happen, But as of
- 16:59Speaker 1: right now, she's the sole exception for me that I like, definitely,
- 17:05Speaker 1: definitely would lose my mind. She's there are so many
- 17:10Speaker 1: celebrities that folks run into and kind of lose it.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And I watched them, like why are you losing it
- 17:15Speaker 1: over this person? And then I think, Okay, if I
- 17:18Speaker 1: met Beyonce, though, I would literally not be able to speak.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I think I would just cry. I think I would
- 17:22Speaker 1: just burst into tears, and then like once I recovered
- 17:27Speaker 1: an hour later, I would be like, I completely ruined
- 17:29Speaker 1: my chance to like say something cool and be dope
- 17:32Speaker 1: in front of Beyonce. But I just have to accept
- 17:35Speaker 1: now that am I ever to meet her, I won't
- 17:39Speaker 1: be cool, I will say nothing dope. I Am going
- 17:41Speaker 1: to be a mess. And that's it. Oh my god,
- 17:47Speaker 1: Bernadette says in the chat, Well, in the beginning, someone
- 17:50Speaker 1: thought Slash feared Rebecca and toy Soldier were in a
- 17:53Speaker 1: romantic relationship, and I could not stop laughing. That's fair.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I got it together pretty quick once we saw her backstory.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But yeah, look her leaning out the window and yelling
- 18:04Speaker 1: I just want us to be together.
- 18:06Speaker 2: That's it's giving romantic.
- 18:08Speaker 1: And I'm not going to apologize for leaping to that conclusion.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I just think that's that's not my fault. I think
- 18:14Speaker 1: that is reasonable that I jumped to that. So this
- 18:21Speaker 1: this bit with Bartolomea goes on a little bit. We
- 18:25Speaker 1: jump back down to the like sort of trash shoot area.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I don't know really what to call this. The guys
- 18:33Speaker 1: are referring it to like a junk yard that is underground.
- 18:38Speaker 1: This is so strange, guys, because these dudes are being
- 18:43Speaker 1: left down here, and we have the King who is
- 18:45Speaker 1: being left down here, and.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I think.
- 18:51Speaker 1: We're supposed to be assuming that he has like gotten
- 18:56Speaker 1: dropped down here years ago and just left, Like you
- 19:01Speaker 1: need food and water and stuff to stay alive, and
- 19:04Speaker 1: how is that happening?
- 19:06Speaker 2: Like what?
- 19:10Speaker 1: It just feels like there has to be some mechanism
- 19:16Speaker 1: that is enabling people to stay alive throughout all of this,
- 19:20Speaker 1: because it's so there's just no way otherwise, right, like
- 19:27Speaker 1: I am, we haven't really gotten any of the logistics
- 19:31Speaker 1: surrounding this at all. And to be honest, guys, this
- 19:36Speaker 1: doesn't really matter. It's just something that's got me thinking
- 19:41Speaker 1: because when they first fall down this hole, I was
- 19:45Speaker 1: thinking that this was just going to wind up being
- 19:47Speaker 1: a sort of holding pen until they could take people
- 19:51Speaker 1: to their the place where they get made into toys.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Like what I assumed was happening was that we're getting
- 20:01Speaker 1: dropped down the chute, left in this sort of like
- 20:03Speaker 1: in between waiting room type space because we are only
- 20:08Speaker 1: suitable now for being made into toys. But it takes
- 20:12Speaker 1: like some time for that to happen. Or maybe the
- 20:15Speaker 1: person who has the power to do this needs like
- 20:17Speaker 1: a recharge period, or maybe if we transform too many
- 20:20Speaker 1: people into toys at once, they're like, something happens when
- 20:24Speaker 1: we do that, and so we need to do it slowly,
- 20:26Speaker 1: or you know, like any number of reasons that this
- 20:30Speaker 1: could be something that takes a little extra time. And
- 20:35Speaker 1: finding out that the king is down here and has
- 20:37Speaker 1: been for a while really throws a wrench in that
- 20:42Speaker 1: idea and means that I have to sort of recontextualize
- 20:45Speaker 1: what this space even is if there are folks living
- 20:48Speaker 1: here who have lived here for long term. So, oh
- 20:54Speaker 1: my god, you guys, I went to I you muscle
- 20:57Speaker 1: memory is a bitch. I'm just like trying to click
- 21:00Speaker 1: over to see like the next scene, and I accidentally
- 21:03Speaker 1: just clicked on my kindle because I'm so used to
- 21:04Speaker 1: recording book episodes lately that it's just like automatic. So
- 21:10Speaker 1: the dudes here are like talking about the king.
- 21:15Speaker 2: One of them says like.
- 21:18Speaker 1: He went completely rogue one night and that had to
- 21:22Speaker 1: be put down like a dog, is like the way
- 21:25Speaker 1: he says it. And this dude here is so serious
- 21:30Speaker 1: and so self possessed that I was like, that doesn't
- 21:34Speaker 1: sound likely based on what we're seeing of this guy,
- 21:38Speaker 1: but like, what does that even mean that he had
- 21:41Speaker 1: to be put down?
- 21:42Speaker 2: What was he doing? I got very very curious, and.
- 21:48Speaker 1: He mentions something about his daughter Viola, and y'all, you
- 21:54Speaker 1: really would have thought that I would put this together.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I really feel like it should have been like a
- 21:59Speaker 1: big surprise, the real identity of Violet, because that one
- 22:03Speaker 1: was the surprise for me. It turns outw Violet's like
- 22:06Speaker 1: a princess and is like working with Do Flamingo as
- 22:11Speaker 1: a means of getting some mercy thrown on other people.
- 22:16Speaker 1: She volunteered her power for his organization, so that's why
- 22:21Speaker 1: she's working with him, and not because she actually was
- 22:24Speaker 1: with him from the beginning. And I think that's a
- 22:27Speaker 1: pretty fun development. I liked that reveal a lot.
- 22:30Speaker 2: And was surprised by that, so.
- 22:36Speaker 1: We have Elizabella, the King Elizabella who you guys, I
- 22:41Speaker 1: was just so every time I am reminded what his
- 22:45Speaker 1: name is, I'm startled because it's so strange. But yeah,
- 22:51Speaker 1: the guys are all like a bunch of them used
- 22:55Speaker 1: to be soldiers in King Riku's army, and they're just like, hey,
- 23:00Speaker 1: so what actually happened, dude, because this was really weird
- 23:05Speaker 1: and they are sharing their like confusion that they have
- 23:10Speaker 1: been kind of holding on too, but not we as
- 23:14Speaker 1: an audience don't even know what they're confused about yet.
- 23:17Speaker 1: So this is when we jump over to this guy
- 23:21Speaker 1: who has gotten gripped up by this weird like sticky
- 23:26Speaker 1: substance and sucked out through the ceiling. And like you know,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I said earlier, apparently this room isn't what I thought,
- 23:37Speaker 1: and like it is in some ways because people are
- 23:40Speaker 1: being taken out and made into toys. But the king
- 23:42Speaker 1: is still here and I'm assuming has been here for
- 23:44Speaker 1: a while, so I don't know if it's just that
- 23:46Speaker 1: the king has figured out how to avoid this stickiness,
- 23:52Speaker 1: if they are leaving him down here because it's too
- 23:55Speaker 1: much of a risk to let him above, if there's
- 23:58Speaker 1: like a reason that they wouldn't transform him into a toy.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I don't know what the reasoning is behind this, but
- 24:07Speaker 1: this guy gets gripped up.
- 24:08Speaker 2: They try to.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Hold him down keep him from getting pulled away, but
- 24:14Speaker 1: ultimately he still winds up going up through like one
- 24:16Speaker 1: of many holes in the ceiling, which really got my
- 24:18Speaker 1: trip of phobia going. And then we see this dude
- 24:22Speaker 1: standing over him and putting his hand down toward him,
- 24:26Speaker 1: and it's this like this guy who looks vaguely familiar,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and I'm trying to remember if we have seen this
- 24:34Speaker 1: person before, because he's kind of like reminding me of
- 24:39Speaker 1: something that we saw. I'm trying to think about the
- 24:42Speaker 1: lady that eats all that candy that gets deliveries from
- 24:48Speaker 1: Fishman Island, and if she was like working with this guy,
- 24:52Speaker 1: if that's where I know him from. But he is
- 24:55Speaker 1: called Trouble. I think he's so odd looking, Like, honestly,
- 25:04Speaker 1: the vibe that he gives me out of the gate
- 25:07Speaker 1: is somebody who goes to a lot of fish concerts
- 25:11Speaker 1: and plays hacky sack because he's got like these little
- 25:15Speaker 1: glasses and long hair that kind of looks like dreadlocks
- 25:19Speaker 1: a little bit a five o'clock shadow that's pretty heavy,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and so he just kind of there's and also like
- 25:30Speaker 1: he's got a I think it's called a tonsure where
- 25:34Speaker 1: it's like shaved in the center of.
- 25:36Speaker 2: The top of your head. Is that the right name
- 25:38Speaker 2: for that? But he.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Like it looks much more for me like male pattern baldness.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So that's why I said fish concerts because a lot
- 25:48Speaker 1: of the people who go to those are on the
- 25:49Speaker 1: older side at this point, Like and so he's doing
- 25:53Speaker 1: like aging hippie for me. And he is wearing this
- 26:00Speaker 1: robe that is open at the front and underneath it
- 26:04Speaker 1: looks like he doesn't have a shirt on, but he
- 26:06Speaker 1: has three straps going across his midsection that connect with
- 26:11Speaker 1: rings in the center that look kind of like a
- 26:14Speaker 1: harness of some kind. And he has transformed this like
- 26:22Speaker 1: big fighter dude into this little monkey that plays the
- 26:28Speaker 1: symbols one of those classics. And he tells him after
- 26:33Speaker 1: transforming him, thou shalt obey all orders from the family.
- 26:37Speaker 1: And and let's say I'm trying to find that the
- 26:42Speaker 1: thou shalt not harm any human, Thou shalt obey all
- 26:45Speaker 1: orders from the family. You better follow those rules. Now
- 26:50Speaker 1: go straight through that door. Keep walking, you'll find a
- 26:53Speaker 1: factory with a port along the way. March and the
- 26:58Speaker 1: monkey gets up and goes and we hear the guy's
- 27:01Speaker 1: voice like inside his head because he is trying to
- 27:06Speaker 1: resist this and he can't make himself stop walking, and
- 27:15Speaker 1: Treble says, I'm trying, he says. Those contenders were all
- 27:19Speaker 1: pretty tough. It'll take a long time before they break.
- 27:25Speaker 1: So maybe that's what it is that I was like
- 27:30Speaker 1: wondering about with the time delay, that somehow they have
- 27:33Speaker 1: to be left to stew until their brains are like fragile,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and then he can get them to obey his will.
- 27:43Speaker 1: But it has to be like they've been put through
- 27:47Speaker 1: trauma before they are willing to just kind of let
- 27:52Speaker 1: go and do what they're told, which would make sense actually,
- 27:58Speaker 1: So yeah, this knowing that these like because you guys
- 28:04Speaker 1: know that my question about whether or not people were
- 28:06Speaker 1: being turned into automatons for a factory. My hang up
- 28:11Speaker 1: kept being that some of these toys who are running
- 28:17Speaker 1: around the city don't seem to be made to do
- 28:22Speaker 1: any labor, and it doesn't appear to be a problem.
- 28:27Speaker 1: They're out here just like pretending to be the pet
- 28:31Speaker 1: or friend of like little children, and they themselves seem
- 28:37Speaker 1: to remember that they are the father of Like that
- 28:41Speaker 1: guy who was this, I think he was like a
- 28:43Speaker 1: slinky dog. He remembered that this little girl was his daughter,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and there's no mention from him of being made to
- 28:54Speaker 1: do any sort of manual labor. But then you've got
- 29:01Speaker 1: this guy here who is being made to go somewhere
- 29:06Speaker 1: and do things that he is attempting to resist and
- 29:10Speaker 1: he can't. So we've got a couple people both turn
- 29:13Speaker 1: into toys, but both having really different setups and reactions
- 29:18Speaker 1: to those setups. And I don't know what the difference
- 29:22Speaker 1: is if maybe the guy who was like who's transforming
- 29:25Speaker 1: them has learned over time that if you transform people
- 29:29Speaker 1: too quickly, that you can't overwhelm their free will and
- 29:35Speaker 1: make them do something that's like against their will. And
- 29:42Speaker 1: so there are a bunch of people out there who
- 29:44Speaker 1: were sort of experimental toys and then and they were
- 29:50Speaker 1: like allowed to go out and just be amongst the
- 29:52Speaker 1: people to sort of normalize this. But as this guy
- 29:56Speaker 1: kept experimenting, he began to realize, oh, okay, actually, like
- 30:00Speaker 1: I have to take my time a little bit more
- 30:03Speaker 1: or else it doesn't work, and so that's why they've
- 30:06Speaker 1: created this waiting room kind of area. I don't know,
- 30:12Speaker 1: but this so this is like I said when I
- 30:15Speaker 1: was saying earlier, like we get our hint that we
- 30:18Speaker 1: get to see as the viewer, but the audience, the
- 30:21Speaker 1: straw hats don't. This is what I was talking about
- 30:24Speaker 1: with that. So we go to Guncho who is talking
- 30:30Speaker 1: about the Tantata history, and he is the one who
- 30:33Speaker 1: is explaining what happened all those years ago, and he
- 30:38Speaker 1: is let's see he as many ages ago. Sorry, guys,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I'm jumping around a little bit, just trying to find
- 30:46Speaker 1: the beginning of sentences and stuff. So it's causing a
- 30:48Speaker 1: bit of a delay in the whim explaining things many
- 30:52Speaker 1: ages ago, our Tantata ancestors took to the seas, not
- 30:54Speaker 1: in search of treasure, but in search of resources that
- 30:58Speaker 1: their homeland. But they could not hide from the big people,
- 31:03Speaker 1: and their encounters never ended. Well before long, our race
- 31:07Speaker 1: was in danger of going extinct. And we see this
- 31:11Speaker 1: like wild animation of a big person finding little people,
- 31:16Speaker 1: and the little people are fully defined and illustrated normally,
- 31:21Speaker 1: but the person is like only their hair looks distinct.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Their face is like a total black shadow, and then
- 31:28Speaker 1: they've just got red circles for eyes.
- 31:30Speaker 2: They look like a demon.
- 31:32Speaker 1: It is very freaky, and they are being chased and
- 31:39Speaker 1: captured and whatnot. When all seemed lost, they came here
- 31:43Speaker 1: to dress Rosa and met with the king. He offered
- 31:45Speaker 1: the Tantata a deal. In exchange for a bit of labor,
- 31:49Speaker 1: he would provide us with home resources and safety. And
- 31:53Speaker 1: as for the king's name, it was Don Quixote. And
- 31:59Speaker 1: every is just gasping, right.
- 32:02Speaker 2: So the.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Fateful encounter occurred more than nine hundred years ago, but
- 32:10Speaker 1: it's remembered as the beginning of the darkest age in
- 32:14Speaker 1: our history. We call it the slave era. There are
- 32:19Speaker 1: some surviving manuscripts that detailed a cruelty we faced at
- 32:23Speaker 1: the hands of the royal family, and they are horrifying,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and we get to see all kinds of illustrations of
- 32:30Speaker 1: the big people doing awful stuff, living lives of luxury
- 32:35Speaker 1: while the little people slave for them. The next hundred
- 32:39Speaker 1: years were part of the blank century, so the records
- 32:41Speaker 1: from that time are lost to us. But eight hundred
- 32:44Speaker 1: years ago a new king came to power in dress Rosa.
- 32:49Speaker 2: And he was King Riku the First.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Now really quickly, guys, eight hundred years ago in the
- 33:05Speaker 1: little people's time, right, or are we meant to have
- 33:11Speaker 1: characters now that can live for that long? Because we've
- 33:16Speaker 1: got characters that are massive beyond what human beings should.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Be able to reach.
- 33:21Speaker 1: We've got characters that can basically develop superpowers over time,
- 33:26Speaker 1: So it's not out of the realm of possibility that
- 33:29Speaker 1: we have characters that are legitimately meant to be this old.
- 33:32Speaker 1: But I couldn't tell if it was like we were
- 33:36Speaker 1: actually doing nine hundred years or if this was like
- 33:39Speaker 1: according to the little people, whose sense of time is
- 33:41Speaker 1: really different from ours, like dog years kind of thing.
- 33:47Speaker 1: The blank century lines up with the blank century for humans,
- 33:52Speaker 1: like we have one of those as well in this universe,
- 33:55Speaker 1: So I don't know. I feel like that has to
- 33:59Speaker 1: be I don't know. So to our surprise, the king,
- 34:08Speaker 1: with tears streaming down his face, bowed his head and
- 34:11Speaker 1: offered us his deepest apologies, and he devised a plan
- 34:17Speaker 1: to help us. He enacted reparations and told us we
- 34:24Speaker 1: no longer needed to slave away, and if there was
- 34:28Speaker 1: anything that we needed from the country, we could take
- 34:31Speaker 1: it and we didn't need to pay a thing in return,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and so that is why we have this thing where
- 34:37Speaker 1: the Fay like just steals stuff and everybody just basically
- 34:41Speaker 1: rolls with it. And we'll talk about this in a second,
- 34:46Speaker 1: but the whole you know, we get the flashback of
- 34:51Speaker 1: Zoro being mad because one of his swords was stolen.
- 34:54Speaker 1: And I do kind of think that if dress Rosa
- 34:58Speaker 1: is going to rely so heavily tourism, that probably you
- 35:01Speaker 1: should make it very public that anything that ends up
- 35:04Speaker 1: on the island is fair game for the Faye to steal,
- 35:08Speaker 1: and that you don't pursue them and track them down
- 35:11Speaker 1: in the streets because of the agreement. But evidently, uh,
- 35:16Speaker 1: you know whatever, so the citizens accepted the thefts with
- 35:20Speaker 1: good humor. The legend of the Fairies was born and
- 35:23Speaker 1: continued to this day. And this is so funny, guys,
- 35:29Speaker 1: because look, the idea of reparations is so divisive when
- 35:37Speaker 1: you call it reparations, and the reason that people get
- 35:43Speaker 1: resistant to this is because they do not like the
- 35:46Speaker 1: idea if you are of the more privileged group, the
- 35:52Speaker 1: idea of other folks getting additional help because they suffered
- 35:58Speaker 1: from something that you did not personally inflict on them.
- 36:05Speaker 1: It's very easy to tell yourself a story how everybody
- 36:11Speaker 1: now all has the same opportunities, that they aren't really
- 36:14Speaker 1: suffering any ill effects from what was done hundreds of
- 36:17Speaker 1: years ago, even though a lot of it wasn't hundreds,
- 36:20Speaker 1: it was fifty, but sure, whatever, and that it's unfair
- 36:26Speaker 1: for you to be penalized for something you didn't do.
- 36:31Speaker 1: There is so much wrong with that frame of mind,
- 36:35Speaker 1: because what it comes down to is you didn't do it,
- 36:38Speaker 1: but you did profit off of it. Whether you note
- 36:41Speaker 1: that you did is not the issue you did. Factually,
- 36:46Speaker 1: you have made gains because of what your ancestors have done,
- 36:52Speaker 1: if you have inherited any money, any property, or if
- 36:56Speaker 1: you have simply gotten like certain treatment because of how
- 36:59Speaker 1: you look, what race you are, whatever, you are profiting
- 37:03Speaker 1: off of something, and other people have been penalized because
- 37:07Speaker 1: of who they are, and you're not being punished. Things
- 37:14Speaker 1: are being equalized in a way that they should have
- 37:16Speaker 1: been from the beginning. But fundamentally a lot of people
- 37:20Speaker 1: don't want to face that that is true, and that
- 37:23Speaker 1: things like if everything were fair and equal, that they
- 37:28Speaker 1: wouldn't be where they are now because nobody likes to
- 37:32Speaker 1: acknowledge that they got help that they didn't necessarily ask for,
- 37:39Speaker 1: especially if that help was ill gotten. It doesn't nobody
- 37:44Speaker 1: wants to like admit that everything they achieved in their
- 37:50Speaker 1: life was not necessarily because they were so great because
- 37:54Speaker 1: they worked so hard, even though the world as we
- 37:58Speaker 1: know does not necessarily reward good people and hard work.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Folks love to tell themselves that story like it's just
- 38:07Speaker 1: very reliable. So the idea of reparations, when you frame
- 38:12Speaker 1: them as reparations, is always gets like a strong reaction
- 38:18Speaker 1: from folks who don't want to acknowledge the historical inequities
- 38:24Speaker 1: that have led to where we are. At the same time,
- 38:28Speaker 1: the same kind of question can be posed to people
- 38:31Speaker 1: as if you were, like, had twenty dollars, somebody stole
- 38:41Speaker 1: that twenty dollars from you and they used that twenty
- 38:46Speaker 1: dollars to buy a book, do you still technically have
- 38:55Speaker 1: a claim on that book or is that book really
- 39:00Speaker 1: theirs because they bought it. And almost every time there
- 39:04Speaker 1: have been studies done on this, even the people who
- 39:08Speaker 1: claim to not support reparations will fully be like, no,
- 39:12Speaker 1: that's my book. It was my twenty dollars and I
- 39:14Speaker 1: didn't give them that twenty dollars, so if they used
- 39:17Speaker 1: it to buy something.
- 39:18Speaker 2: That thing is mine.
- 39:19Speaker 1: They understand it when you put it in those terms.
- 39:22Speaker 1: But it's because stuff is removed enough in history that
- 39:26Speaker 1: they are not directly responsible for keeping slaves that now
- 39:31Speaker 1: they feel like they get to hold no responsibility whatsoever.
- 39:35Speaker 1: And that's the tricky part about history is like, technically
- 39:40Speaker 1: you don't hold any responsibility regarding what people did, but
- 39:45Speaker 1: you do regarding how you handle the profits of that now.
- 39:50Speaker 1: And you're still trying to pretend it had nothing to
- 39:53Speaker 1: do with you while you keep withdrawing the money off
- 39:57Speaker 1: the interest rates. You know, you can't simultaneously say that
- 40:03Speaker 1: had nothing to do with me and keep profiting off it.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Either it didn't have anything to do with you and
- 40:09Speaker 1: that money isn't yours, or it did have something to
- 40:12Speaker 1: do with you and that's why you're taking that money.
- 40:16Speaker 1: In which case, now, if it had something to do
- 40:18Speaker 1: with you, you also have a responsibility to make it right.
- 40:22Speaker 1: So all of this to say the idea that we
- 40:26Speaker 1: start reparations in dress Rosa by just saying these little
- 40:31Speaker 1: people can take anything they want and you can't do
- 40:33Speaker 1: anything about it would never ever in a million years,
- 40:38Speaker 1: have been acceptable. It's mentioned in this as a passing
- 40:43Speaker 1: like part of the story that is not focused on
- 40:46Speaker 1: at all. It's so accepted by everybody that they were
- 40:50Speaker 1: they had good will and understood how wrong it was.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Because the king decided to say I'm sorry and turn
- 40:56Speaker 1: things around, that suddenly everybody on dress so also agreed
- 41:01Speaker 1: with him and saw how injust it was, and that
- 41:04Speaker 1: they also wanted to, you know, do some good to
- 41:09Speaker 1: this oppressed class. And it really like frustrates me that
- 41:14Speaker 1: they have been enslaved for hundreds of years and now
- 41:17Speaker 1: I'm supposed to believe that everybody immediately did this about
- 41:21Speaker 1: face overnight and agreed to let their property be stolen
- 41:27Speaker 1: by unknown bandits as fay, and that it was just
- 41:32Speaker 1: okay with everybody. There is no way in hell there
- 41:36Speaker 1: is absolutely no group of people on earth for whom
- 41:41Speaker 1: this would work like it. Just the fact that they
- 41:45Speaker 1: were okay with enslaving these people means that they see
- 41:48Speaker 1: them as not human animals and therefore worthy of being oppressed.
- 41:53Speaker 1: And they were profiting off of them so much that
- 41:57Speaker 1: I have to assume there would be like extensive profit
- 42:01Speaker 1: beyond what was even being enjoyed on dress Rosa, that
- 42:04Speaker 1: there would be additional like you know, shipping and production
- 42:11Speaker 1: of things that could be traded and whatnot. Like this
- 42:14Speaker 1: would just be such a huge issue with so many
- 42:20Speaker 1: implications and so many like tentacles to deal with. And
- 42:27Speaker 1: it just is very funny to me that King Riku
- 42:30Speaker 1: just like does away with it and everybody still thinks
- 42:34Speaker 1: that he's like such a great king. People would hate him,
- 42:39Speaker 1: like this is the kind of shit that would get
- 42:41Speaker 1: a man assassinated because he was about to undo the
- 42:45Speaker 1: hundreds of years of tradition of enslaving the little people
- 42:49Speaker 1: that has brought us so much profit and so much
- 42:53Speaker 1: like such a golden age for our own people. We
- 42:58Speaker 1: know all too well if we live in the United States,
- 43:02Speaker 1: what an argument it was over whether or not to
- 43:05Speaker 1: free slaves. And we only held slaves for like a
- 43:09Speaker 1: couple hundred years, not nine hundred. Imagine if it had
- 43:15Speaker 1: gone on for that long and it was that entrenched,
- 43:18Speaker 1: how much worse it would all be. So anyway, I
- 43:23Speaker 1: just wanted to acknowledge this part of the story. For me,
- 43:26Speaker 1: I got hung up on for a moment because I
- 43:28Speaker 1: was just like, there is absolutely no way. I just
- 43:32Speaker 1: don't see it unless there's it's like linked with whatever
- 43:36Speaker 1: weird memory spell has been placed on certain people that
- 43:39Speaker 1: eventually gets acknowledged later that like folks were suddenly mind
- 43:46Speaker 1: whammied into being fine with reparations. But we're gonna I'm
- 43:51Speaker 1: gonna move along now. So the thing with don Quixote,
- 43:59Speaker 1: what he does is he decides that he is going
- 44:02Speaker 1: to turn up and demand this whole island from the
- 44:09Speaker 1: king unless the king can pay him like ten billion
- 44:14Speaker 1: berries or something along that line. And the deal is,
- 44:24Speaker 1: you can't tell any of the people why you need
- 44:27Speaker 1: this money. You have just got to tell them that
- 44:31Speaker 1: you want the money you can fundraise from your own people,
- 44:35Speaker 1: but you can't explain to them about me or the
- 44:38Speaker 1: demands that I am making on you or any of this.
- 44:42Speaker 1: So what I kind of thought we were going to
- 44:44Speaker 1: get was that the king was going to demand money
- 44:49Speaker 1: from his people, that they were going to like acquiesce initially,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and then that Do Flamingo was going to like pull
- 45:02Speaker 1: out of the deal and basically be like, Nope, never mind,
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'm still taking over and make the king look like
- 45:11Speaker 1: I promised you all that there was a real reason
- 45:13Speaker 1: for me taking this money and that I would eventually
- 45:16Speaker 1: explain it. But now your money is still gone and
- 45:22Speaker 1: the country is being taken over, and I have not
- 45:25Speaker 1: been given a reason to explain. So dolfol Mingo is
- 45:28Speaker 1: just going to make it like I was simply stealing
- 45:31Speaker 1: from you and making up like an elaborate story, and
- 45:35Speaker 1: it like that. I still feel it kind of would
- 45:38Speaker 1: have worked. But what Dolfo Mingo does is so much
- 45:41Speaker 1: worse than that. Because the king, we see like the
- 45:44Speaker 1: established relationship between all of the people on dres Rosa
- 45:50Speaker 1: and the king and the soldiers, and how he is
- 45:54Speaker 1: so aware of the well being of his people that
- 45:57Speaker 1: he sends soldiers out to help with repairs on stuff,
- 46:01Speaker 1: and just generally like, the folks have such a profound
- 46:06Speaker 1: faith in their king that when he eventually like goes
- 46:10Speaker 1: public and begs them all please give me as much
- 46:13Speaker 1: of your money as you can that even though it
- 46:16Speaker 1: takes a moment and all of them are sort of like, wait, what,
- 46:19Speaker 1: eventually they all are fully on board and are just like, yeah,
- 46:22Speaker 1: we believe in you. It's okay, We'll do this.
- 46:26Speaker 2: And we see.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Dol Flamingo watching from the side and being like all right,
- 46:32Speaker 1: now we have to erode their faith in him completely.
- 46:35Speaker 1: So Dol Flamingo, with his fucking stringstring power is able
- 46:40Speaker 1: to make the king like go out in the middle
- 46:46Speaker 1: of the night riding this stallion with a weapon and
- 46:50Speaker 1: just first he fires like a fire arrow into a
- 46:55Speaker 1: munitions factory or a stronghold or something causes the huge explosion,
- 47:01Speaker 1: and then he rides out among his own people and
- 47:06Speaker 1: just begins laying waste to all of them with no
- 47:10Speaker 1: explanation and not answering like anybody who's shouting asking why,
- 47:15Speaker 1: and he is just crying and saying like you have
- 47:18Speaker 1: to get away from me or you'll get hurt, which
- 47:20Speaker 1: we know is a plea for them to save themselves,
- 47:25Speaker 1: but out of context, just sounds like a threat. And
- 47:29Speaker 1: eventually Do Flamingo has all of his soldiers doing this,
- 47:35Speaker 1: so that when Dol Flamingo finally like comes up and
- 47:38Speaker 1: it's just like have no fear, I'm here. Everybody's like, oh,
- 47:41Speaker 1: thank you do Flamingo for saving us because our king
- 47:45Speaker 1: has lost his mind.
- 47:47Speaker 2: And this is like, it's.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Like I said, guys, it's just so awful to watch
- 47:54Speaker 1: because the king is sobbing crying as he's being forced
- 48:00Speaker 1: to commit one war crime after another, like he says
- 48:05Speaker 1: something earlier about how I would cut my own arms
- 48:08Speaker 1: and legs off if it were to make my country safer,
- 48:11Speaker 1: And honestly, I fully believe that based on what we
- 48:14Speaker 1: have seen of this guy and having to like being
- 48:19Speaker 1: made to ride out and slaughter totally innocent people for
- 48:26Speaker 1: no reason and not be able to explain to them
- 48:29Speaker 1: what is happening, like this is a true nightmare scenario.
- 48:34Speaker 1: I actually had a nightmare. It was so wild, you guys,
- 48:38Speaker 1: because I experienced sometimes night terrors where you like have
- 48:44Speaker 1: that feeling of like being unable to move. And I
- 48:53Speaker 1: had a dream that I something had come into my
- 48:56Speaker 1: body and that I was standing in a bathroom and
- 49:00Speaker 1: there was a woman in her daughter. It was like
- 49:01Speaker 1: a you know, a public bathroom with multiple stalls, and
- 49:05Speaker 1: there was a woman in her daughter with their back
- 49:07Speaker 1: to me, standing washing their hands in front of this mirror,
- 49:11Speaker 1: and something had possessed my body and was trying to
- 49:16Speaker 1: make me strangle the little girl, and I was trying
- 49:21Speaker 1: to yell to warm them to get so that she
- 49:26Speaker 1: could get out of there before I could get my
- 49:28Speaker 1: hands around her throat and I didn't realize it, but
- 49:33Speaker 1: apparently in real life I was going like in my
- 49:41Speaker 1: sleep and Owen was next to me, and I just
- 49:46Speaker 1: vaguely heard him say like what the fuck and like
- 49:49Speaker 1: grab my hand and I woke up and he got
- 49:52Speaker 1: me out.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Of the dream.
- 49:54Speaker 1: But it was like the feeling of trying to stop
- 49:57Speaker 1: a thing that is happening in my body was part
- 49:59Speaker 1: of of that. That being unable to move while you're sleeping.
- 50:05Speaker 1: So yeah, I was just like screaming trying to get
- 50:09Speaker 1: somebody to stop me from doing this. And so this
- 50:13Speaker 1: this scene of him like going after these people and
- 50:16Speaker 1: wanting to resist and being unable to. It's so tricky
- 50:21Speaker 1: because the do Flamingo think and his ability could be
- 50:24Speaker 1: linked with how he is making certain like the people
- 50:29Speaker 1: who are turned into toy automatons. Maybe his power is
- 50:33Speaker 1: what's being used to control them, but I don't really
- 50:36Speaker 1: know how his power works, and if it's possible for
- 50:38Speaker 1: him to set that sort of thing up and then
- 50:41Speaker 1: leave and for it to keep going on its own
- 50:45Speaker 1: without him getting it initially started. So anyway, this is
- 50:53Speaker 1: this whole like horrible story. Our friends are just understandably
- 51:01Speaker 1: like wrecked overhearing all of this, and it's just awful
- 51:06Speaker 1: to watch these poor guards as well, who were like
- 51:09Speaker 1: looking at their king being like, explain, why is this happening?
- 51:14Speaker 1: And then eventually it begins to happen to them and
- 51:18Speaker 1: they're suddenly realizing, Oh my god, this is what was
- 51:21Speaker 1: going on with him, Like now I understand. It's just, guys,
- 51:29Speaker 1: I hated this so much. I really like the whole
- 51:36Speaker 1: the fact that not only did people believe this at
- 51:42Speaker 1: the time, but that now in the present, Rebecca is
- 51:48Speaker 1: hated as much as she is for something that Like, Honestly,
- 51:54Speaker 1: at this point, I am very curious why people haven't
- 52:01Speaker 1: put two and two together about the fact that probably
- 52:04Speaker 1: do Flamingo had something.
- 52:05Speaker 2: To do with it.
- 52:07Speaker 1: I don't know if maybe his power is just not
- 52:12Speaker 1: known as well as I would think. And we've run
- 52:17Speaker 1: into this before, guys, with me really not being able
- 52:19Speaker 1: to tell what information people have, but I would think
- 52:25Speaker 1: if your king has been spectacular as a ruler for
- 52:31Speaker 1: hundreds of years and then all of a sudden, literally overnight,
- 52:37Speaker 1: he's demanding money and murdering people, and then a man
- 52:43Speaker 1: shows up who happens to have an ability that can
- 52:46Speaker 1: control folks that maybe somebody would have put two and
- 52:51Speaker 1: two together by now, but it seems.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Like they haven't.
- 52:55Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's because they don't know
- 52:57Speaker 1: what he is capable of, or if it's because he like,
- 53:04Speaker 1: I don't know some other It feels.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Like that shit.
- 53:06Speaker 1: That's really the only explanation that makes sense is that
- 53:10Speaker 1: they aren't aware of what he can do. But the
- 53:16Speaker 1: fact that everybody is yelling that, like to Rebecca, like
- 53:19Speaker 1: I hope you die, and all of this is based
- 53:23Speaker 1: on a story that didn't happen is really rough. And
- 53:31Speaker 1: his daughter, Viola, it turns out, is now Violet, and
- 53:38Speaker 1: she is has turned herself over to do flamingo I
- 53:45Speaker 1: think in order to keep her father alive, if I'm
- 53:48Speaker 1: not mistaken, But she has this ability and it's just really,
- 53:53Speaker 1: really useful, so it's possible for her to leverage the
- 53:58Speaker 1: theage that she could offer. And Uh, the moment that
- 54:05Speaker 1: we see her come down and Monette is there, I
- 54:08Speaker 1: was like, oh right, uh, because she asks like, Weney,
- 54:12Speaker 1: what are you doing here?
- 54:13Speaker 2: You're just a servant.
- 54:14Speaker 1: Why are you manning the palace gates? And Monette says,
- 54:19Speaker 1: Princess Viola I'm sure you're confused about what's happening. Perhaps
- 54:23Speaker 1: you should use your clairvoyance to get a closer look.
- 54:26Speaker 1: You might be surprised by what you see. And while
- 54:30Speaker 1: you're here, why don't you welcome our new royal family
- 54:35Speaker 1: to the throne. And this is when we see Do
- 54:38Speaker 1: Flamingo and his crew coming in.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Oh my god, I forgot about.
- 54:43Speaker 1: The guy with a fucking like bonnet and pacifier? What
- 54:46Speaker 1: is his deal? What is that guy's deal? I hate
- 54:50Speaker 1: it so much, y'all. So, oh, there's like a couple
- 54:56Speaker 1: of people here. I'm not sure if we've met yet.
- 54:58Speaker 1: There's that little girl that I think we have.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Seen before when dealing with Do Flamingo.
- 55:03Speaker 1: But there's a little boy who's got horns on his hat,
- 55:08Speaker 1: and I don't know if we have met him yet.
- 55:10Speaker 2: He doesn't look familiar.
- 55:14Speaker 1: And yeah, she gets gripped up, and Monea is like, yeah,
- 55:18Speaker 1: you're going to be coming with us, so this takeover
- 55:24Speaker 1: all of this stuff. I am trusting that, like down
- 55:28Speaker 1: in the bowels of that weird dump, I don't remember
- 55:34Speaker 1: what they called it, something else, but that the king
- 55:37Speaker 1: is explaining to all of these guys down there, what
- 55:40Speaker 1: really happened.
- 55:42Speaker 2: But it seems like they.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Are fucking with people's memory. So if they get changed
- 55:50Speaker 1: into toys even after he has told them the true
- 55:53Speaker 1: version of this story, I'm not sure if people are
- 55:57Speaker 1: ever going to be able to share that and get
- 56:01Speaker 1: the story out there. It seems like the whole way
- 56:03Speaker 1: that this is organized would preclude that specifically. Sorry, as
- 56:11Speaker 1: I'm just trying to like jump ahead to the point where, oh, yeah,
- 56:17Speaker 1: here it is. The king Rico is still alive thanks
- 56:21Speaker 1: to her plea deal. That's right, He's still out there somewhere,
- 56:24Speaker 1: perhaps in this kingdom even but I cannot imagine the
- 56:28Speaker 1: anguish he's carried with him these past ten years, nor
- 56:32Speaker 1: how hard this must be on the former princess fear
- 56:36Speaker 1: anger tears. I wonder how she has fared over this
- 56:41Speaker 1: past decade. And so of course what we then get
- 56:48Speaker 1: is everybody on the straw hats being like, well, we're
- 56:53Speaker 1: obviously going to help, except for Oosap, who is like, uh, guys,
- 56:57Speaker 1: we had that one thing that we were.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Supposed to do with the the.
- 57:03Speaker 1: What do you call it, oh my god, a smile factory,
- 57:09Speaker 1: and you guys can't possibly think that we could take
- 57:15Speaker 1: doe flamingo or that we even should. But as he's
- 57:19Speaker 1: saying this, he turns to Robin and she's just like, oh,
- 57:22Speaker 1: he's going down, like no question, absolutely, And apparently some
- 57:28Speaker 1: of the soldiers like went over to do flamingo, and
- 57:32Speaker 1: Frankie is quick to call them sellouts, but uh, the
- 57:36Speaker 1: toy soldier points out that, like they had been totally
- 57:39Speaker 1: alienated by everybody hating them and thinking that they did
- 57:43Speaker 1: this horrible thing. And I'm sure it was an agonizing
- 57:46Speaker 1: decision for them, but they couldn't just like go back
- 57:50Speaker 1: to living in the community after everything that they had
- 57:52Speaker 1: been made to do. So it was either join up
- 57:56Speaker 1: with them or like be killed or run off, you know,
- 57:59Speaker 1: like what a what were their options really? And that,
- 58:03Speaker 1: for some reason, like really was heartbreaking to me because
- 58:09Speaker 1: it is a very alienating thing to do. You know,
- 58:13Speaker 1: the idea that you are made to do this at
- 58:16Speaker 1: all is so horrible. But then to know that like
- 58:20Speaker 1: you're going to be forced to live in this community
- 58:25Speaker 1: and after this has been done and like people are
- 58:28Speaker 1: going to you're supposed to sort of like just pick
- 58:31Speaker 1: up your life or keep functioning amongst everybody with no
- 58:36Speaker 1: real way to like explain believably what happened. Yeah, that's awful.
- 58:45Speaker 1: And this is when the toy soldier brings up the
- 58:48Speaker 1: question about people's memories and is like, yeah, people don't
- 58:51Speaker 1: seem to remember that, like they had parents that disappeared
- 58:56Speaker 1: like family. And also it's possible that some of the
- 59:00Speaker 1: the toys are actually they've had their memories like screwed
- 59:06Speaker 1: up as well, and that they have family that they
- 59:09Speaker 1: don't themselves even remember. And he says something here that
- 59:16Speaker 1: I was sort of confused by. Uh.
- 59:20Speaker 2: He says sorry.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Robin says that could include you as well about the
- 59:28Speaker 1: memory thing, and he says precisely. But I do believe,
- 59:31Speaker 1: even with their muddled minds, that everyone turned into a
- 59:34Speaker 1: toy must feel a vengeful toward Do Flamingo. And we
- 59:38Speaker 1: get like a bunch of people walking around being like,
- 59:42Speaker 1: fuck that guy, somebody needs to beat his ass, and
- 59:45Speaker 1: one of them says, get away from my wife, you scumbag.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Why won't the words come out? Which that was interesting
- 59:53Speaker 1: because like we did see somebody yelling, don't you remember
- 59:56Speaker 1: your boyfriend? So apparently sometimes they are able to get
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: the words out and sometimes they're not. And I don't
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: know if it's a matter of like the strength of
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: personality that that person had, or if it's that enough
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: time passes and the control that they had keeping them
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: quiet begins to sort of wear off. But it was
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: interesting to me that, like, some people are speaking up
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and others aren't, and you know what the reason could
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: be for why they are so Yeah, like I said,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: it ends with all of our friends agreeing to come
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: together and take do Flamingo down. And we briefly go
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: back to the King, who let's see he's talking to
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: everybody still and says, perhaps it's just my imagination, but
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I feel like I'm forgetting something. I experienced a phenomenon
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: like this about ten years ago. And we get another
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: toy that's yelling where am I going, Grandpa, You've got
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: to help, and another couple of toys with like they
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: have the sort of speech bubbles with the guy's actual
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: faces so that you can see what they looked like
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: when they were human and hear what they're thinking, even
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: as their toy faces and bodies are just continuing on
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: and smiling, sometimes in such a way that it seems
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: like they're fine. And then the very last scene of
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: the episode is Loofy and Kinemon and Zoro reuniting, and
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: we're gonna see what happens next. I wonder if it's
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: like I think that they don't accept any new entries
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: to the tournament now, so I don't think Zorro can fight.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: But Zoro is just the type that I don't think
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: he will accept the fact.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: That he can't fight.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: I think he'll try anyway, and what is that gonna?
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: So I guess we'll have to see about that.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: All right, everybody, I've got a wrap.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: But thank you again for hanging out with me. Thank
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: you to Florian for commissioning this one, and to Bernadette
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: for hanging out in the chat. Bernadette also mentioned eight
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: hundred years for the little people to save eight hundred
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: years for everyone else. So okay, so the king is old,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I guess unless this is all like way more recent
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: than I thought. But it's I feel like I remember
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: them saying.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: That this all started a while back.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: But anyway, correct me on that, guys, if you know
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: the right timeline for that, I will be very open
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: to correction because clearly I'm missing things. So it's fine, all.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Right, everybody, until next time.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: To the lou motherfuckers that was an unspoiled network podcast
