Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, what's going on? Emily Body here? You are
- 0:25Speaker 1: listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. Something that really
- 0:31Speaker 1: resonated with me today that I want to talk about
- 0:33Speaker 1: this week is the fact that at one point or another,
- 0:37Speaker 1: someone that is wildly important to you in your life
- 0:42Speaker 1: was a stranger. Let that sink in for a second.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm going to say it again. There are people right
- 0:47Speaker 1: now that are your closest humans, your closest friends in
- 0:52Speaker 1: your life, that at one point they were someone you
- 0:55Speaker 1: didn't know. And I bring this to the feed today
- 1:00Speaker 1: because it was so funny. I went to yoga with
- 1:03Speaker 1: a friend of mine who I met a few years
- 1:05Speaker 1: ago in the city, and after yoga, we grabbed coffee
- 1:10Speaker 1: and I bumped into one of my closest friends' husbands
- 1:16Speaker 1: and I met both of them also in the city,
- 1:19Speaker 1: And I have this moment as I was sitting there
- 1:21Speaker 1: drinking my coffee that it really hit me how lucky
- 1:27Speaker 1: I am not only to have such great people in
- 1:29Speaker 1: my life, but also the fact that there was something
- 1:34Speaker 1: that brought these people into my orbit. And especially as
- 1:38Speaker 1: we get older, it's so difficult to expand your circle
- 1:43Speaker 1: and candidly many people I know at this point aren't
- 1:47Speaker 1: really that interested in doing so. But I know because
- 1:51Speaker 1: of the good that I've seen that comes from opening
- 1:54Speaker 1: up and getting vulnerable with new people and reaping the
- 1:58Speaker 1: benefits of these fresh relationship and hips, that there is
- 2:01Speaker 1: good that can happen when you allow yourself to simply
- 2:07Speaker 1: be open and by choosing that path instead of saying
- 2:12Speaker 1: to myself, oh, I'm not really interested in getting to
- 2:15Speaker 1: know someone new, I am better for it. And so
- 2:20Speaker 1: knowing that you have the opportunity, regardless of whatever is
- 2:25Speaker 1: going on in your relationships right now, to look back
- 2:29Speaker 1: in a year from now and think, wow, I had
- 2:33Speaker 1: absolutely no idea about the people who would enter my life.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I had no idea about how they could change my world.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And how lucky am I to have had the experiences
- 2:45Speaker 1: with the people that I have some perspective, if you will,
- 2:50Speaker 1: My thought prompt for you this week is who is
- 2:54Speaker 1: one person you are very thankful for in your life?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Why is that? And then I challenge you to tell
- 3:02Speaker 1: them that today, who is one person in your life
- 3:05Speaker 1: that you are super thankful for? Why are you thankful
- 3:08Speaker 1: for them? And then bonus points if you let them know.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And now a listener question Emily.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Hi, my name is Emma. I'm from Minneapolis, and my
- 3:21Speaker 2: question is about the kinds of things that you do
- 3:24Speaker 2: living at home by yourself in the evenings. So I'm
- 3:27Speaker 2: wondering what kind of things you do when you have
- 3:29Speaker 2: a night to yourself at home that are not Netflix
- 3:33Speaker 2: or reading or just cooking dinner. Do you have like
- 3:36Speaker 2: games that you play alone or anything that just keeps
- 3:40Speaker 2: you occupied in the evenings. Thanks so much, love the.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Show, Emma, what a unique question, Candidly, A lot of
- 3:46Speaker 1: the things that I do you just listed, So I'm
- 3:49Speaker 1: big on a good Netflix moment right now. March Madness
- 3:53Speaker 1: has all of my attention in terms of watching television.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Beyond that, I do love to read. I also I
- 4:00Speaker 1: love to write, and I am a constant organizer. So
- 4:06Speaker 1: if I'm home and looking to decompress, something I do
- 4:09Speaker 1: in addition to cooking is I will organize like one
- 4:13Speaker 1: section or thing in my home and I'll listen to
- 4:16Speaker 1: a podcast while doing it. I know this sounds really exciting.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You don't have to tell me twice, But organizing while
- 4:21Speaker 1: listening to a podcast or a good playlist, watching something
- 4:25Speaker 1: on TV, doing something honestly mindless after trying to use
- 4:28Speaker 1: my brain all day. That's kind of where my head
- 4:31Speaker 1: is at now. Something recently that I'll add to this
- 4:34Speaker 1: that I do when I'm home alone. I'm really into
- 4:36Speaker 1: mocktails lately. I'm trying not to just have a glass
- 4:39Speaker 1: of wine for the sake of having a glass of wine.
- 4:42Speaker 1: So I really like this ritual apparteef. I'll put that
- 4:44Speaker 1: in a glass with seltzer and a little orange slice,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and I'm having myself a little evening. Nothing too crazy here,
- 4:52Speaker 1: but a little snapshot into what's happening inside my Brooklyn apartment.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Thanks so much for listening, Emma, and for everyone listening
- 4:59Speaker 1: or a now hit me with a listener question. I
- 5:02Speaker 1: want to answer it in an upcoming episode. The link
- 5:04Speaker 1: to do that is in the show notes at Emily
- 5:08Speaker 1: a Body at Hurdle podcast. Another Hurdle Conquered. Catchy all
- 5:12Speaker 1: next time.
